(00:24):
Magazine. Each week, Paranormality Magazineexplores all forty en subjects, from phantoms
to UFOs and every cryptid creature inbetween. Each week you're treated to a
collection of well researched and investigated stories, interviews and reports on cutting edge paranormal
projects and topics they know you crave. And here in the podcast, I

(00:49):
share stories from the magazine to giveyou just a taste of what you receive
in every issue. I'm Darren Marler, and this is Paranormality Magazine. So
you think your house is haunted?Congratulations. You probably have a lot of

(01:14):
questions. You may be wondering whyyour house is haunted, but it would
behoove you to also know how yourhouse is haunted before speculating the why.
There are a number of different waysone can experience paranormal activity, and asking
why and how can help you getto the root of the haunting. All

(01:34):
things considered, Paranormal activity can simplybe defined as energy happening in a place
or manner that it shouldn't be happeningyour house. For instance, your house
is not haunted if you find anair vent over a cold spot, you're
feeling nauseated and happen to live acrossfrom a power plant, or you have
a psychological condition that produces hallucinations orare experimenting with drugs. Dishes are flying

(02:00):
across your kitchen, or a seethrough person is standing at the edge of
your bed staring at you. Theseare some telltale signs your house is indeed
probably haunted. But first, neverunderestimate the power of debunking. Much of
what may be considered paranormal may alsobe just the energies brought forth by architecture,

(02:23):
atmospheric conditions, and paradolia. Ourbrains and bodies in and of themselves
are fascinating things that can produce fascinatinginterpretations of what may be otherwise benign scientific
situations, try to assume the energyin question is benign it's a raccoon in
the attic, an open vent,a leaky pipe, before assuming it's a

(02:46):
full blown demonic possession. More onthat later. Let's start by breaking down
some of the most common types ofhauntings with some basic paranormal lingo. Holtergeist
activity literally noisy ghost in German cupboardsopen on their own, books, fall

(03:07):
off a shelf, or perhaps slimedrips off the ceiling. If all other
natural phenomena can be debunked, likeyou're not experiencing an earthquake or bad plumbing,
you can probably assume something supernatural isgoing on. There's ample research out
there suggesting the person experiencing the hauntingthemselves could be the poltergeist agent that is

(03:30):
here, she creates the phenomenon withunconscious psychic proclivities. Doctor Barry Taff has
an excellent book on this called AliensAbove, Ghosts Below. If you want
to further study this type of phenomenon, I'll leave a link to that book
in the show description. Residual hauntingalso known as stone tape theory. This

(03:52):
refers to a psychically charged event thatis essentially played back under certain conditions.
Think phantom fosteps, an apparition thatwalks through walls without interacting with the viewer,
Even a feeling of uneasiness in anarea where someone was murdered. Nothing
conscious is attempting to contact the witness. The environment literally sucked up whatever sudden

(04:16):
or repetitive energy happened and spewed itback out. Battlefields are a prime example
of the powers of residual energies.Sensitive people may feel a tightening around their
throat in an area where someone washanged a century ago. They may feel
a stabbing pain in their rib cagein an area of an abandoned hospital where

(04:36):
lobectomies were performed. They're simply pickingup on a psychic imprint left behind in
the atomic fabric of the space. There's not much you can do about these
types of hauntings because they are embeddedinto the very history of the environment.
They may decay over time, butchances are you're stuck with it. Thought

(04:58):
forms, also known as eggrigors. This is a more psychic phenomenon in which
inexperienced folks with negative intentions conjured upsome nastiness in their basement that is wreaking
havoc on their lives. Now,some ghost hunters or TV personalities will call
these demons or malevolent entities. Thisis not the ghost of a bad person.

(05:20):
This is the collective plume of negativeenergy that manifests as for instance,
a black shadow figure crawling around onthe ceiling. These are contaminated collective manifestations
brought forth by inexperienced ghost hunters provokinga space or kids with wige aboards who
don't know what they're doing. There'sno need to personalize these energies. Says

(05:44):
they were never human to begin with. It's similar to a residual haunting,
but there is an element of ancientoccultism that warrants additional research. Malory Kozinski's
book Making Friends with Ghosts offers aunique perspective on the egregor phenomenon on I'll
link to that book of the episodedescription as well. Synchronicity, this is

(06:05):
a divine coincidence that something from theother side has manipulated the environment in such
a way that you know it isa sign that the person or animal is
making intelligent contact. These are thebeautifully spooky occurrences that puzzle us to our
core and make us say things likeyou can't make this stuff up. Synchronicities

(06:28):
can indicate the presence of guardian angels. They are highly personalized, subtle yet
profound, and offer a hint athidden laws of collective consciousness. The Synchronicity
Key is a fantastic book by authorresearcher David Wilcock that can shed more light
on this beautiful phenomenon. Link inthe episode description A class A intelligent haunting.

(06:51):
This is the stuff of Hollywood andlore passed down from generations. This
is Grandma walking through the living roomand disappearing into the TV set six months
after she died. This is thebest friend from childhood who called you after
you had just attended her funeral. This is the figure in the SLS camera

(07:12):
who waves at you while simultaneously sayinghello in the spirit box while simultaneously kicking
the bottom of your chair. Itmay very well be a one time thing,
but it will leave a lasting impressionon you for life. This is
a conscious, intelligent, purposeful connectionfrom the beyond. If you see this
kind of stuff on a daily basis, not only is your space potentially haunted,

(07:36):
but you may potentially be haunted aswell. You might even have some
psychic medium abilities. Now dot meknow the how of the haunting. Let's
walk through a scenario together to seeif we can a debunk the occurrence.
B identify the type of haunting andc figure out what the heck to do
about it. You've noticed a chairin your basement seemingly tips over on its

(08:01):
own. In fact, you've seenit happen yourself. Let's do a little
paranormal root cause analysis to figure outwhat's going on. Is there an air
vent present and the chair is blowingover? Is the floor crooked or is
one of the legs broken? Isthere an animal in the basement knocking it
over? Suggesting a benign, nonhaunted situation. Does it only happen under

(08:24):
certain circumstantial conditions, that is,at night on Thursdays or after you had
tacos for dinner? That might suggesta residual haunting. Does it only happen
in correlation to a family member's presenceand or an emotional outburst within the home,
suggesting poltergeist? What's the history ofthe chair? Did it belong to

(08:46):
your great grandmother? Did you findit at a rummage sale? Did your
dad build it? Suggesting residual butperhaps synchronicity depending on the circumstances, like
if it falls over on what wouldhave been her birthday, et cetera.
When you witness the chair fall over? Does the environment change? Is it
cold? Does your skin feel prickly? Suggesting residual, but possibly intelligent if

(09:11):
further interaction amps up. Let's videotapethat sucker on night vision so we can
see into a different light spectrum. Are there any light anomalies or unexplainable shadows
near the chair suggesting intelligent or perhapsthe thought form. Did the previous owner
of the house experience anything in thebasement or did the previous owner of the
house die in the basement suggesting residual. Is the house built on a fault

(09:37):
line or near water or a sacredhistorical burial site? What are the geological
energy is present in the area, suggesting residual, but also it could be
benign in nature and debunked. Beforeyou call in the ghost hunters, see
if you can figure out the natureof the phenomenon yourself. We're fortunate to

(09:58):
live in a time where discussing thesupernatural is not so taboo, and chances
are we won't be burned at thestake for questioning the teachings of religion,
science, philosophy, and the veryfabric of reality as we know it.
If you think your house is haunted, Asking how will prompt your brain to
compartmentalize the experience into cognitively digestible parts. The how is influenced by process and

(10:24):
procedure, not philosophy or rationalization. How did the phenomenon present itself? A
repetitive noise, a dip in temperature, a blip of light in an area
where no such electrical source exists. If you think your house is haunted,
asking why will prompt the imaginative, speculative part of your brain. The why

(10:46):
is influenced by awareness and driven bybelief. The bigger picture the desire to
connect with something philosophical or theological innature, like it's Grandma trying to contact
me, or the spirit is angerat us for disturbing its former house.
I would exercise caution in this regard, as we truly should not project our

(11:07):
human feelings on an environment where nothingaround you is alive anymore? Who were
we to assume a ghost still hasunresolved feelings or emotions? Why do we
think the dead have the same agendawe do, that they have the same
emotions that they did when they werealive. By instead recognizing the paranormal as

(11:28):
energy whose presence and manifestation we can'tyet explain, rather than the dead projecting
their feelings. Hauntedness doesn't seem thatwell scary. So you think your house
is haunted, embrace it. You'reeither gifted as sensitive and or worthy enough

(11:48):
by some other force to recognize thephenomenon. The universe has winked at you.
Are you ready to wink back? For thousands of years, mythologies and
legends around the world have told ofpowerful otherworldly beings who descended from the heavens

(12:11):
to interact with humans on Earth, known as the Ononaki. In ancient Mesopotamian
texts, these mysterious entities were reveredas gods by the Sumerians, Acadians,
Babylonians, and Assyrians. But whatif they weren't myths at all? What
if the Ononaki were real extraterrestrial beingswho came to Earth in the distant past

(12:35):
and never left. While mainstream scholarscontinue to dismiss tales of the Onanaki as
mere mythology, some researchers believe thereis compelling evidence that these ancient visitors wielded
great influence over early human civilizations.Zechariah sitchin a scholar who devoted his life
to translating ancient Sumerian and Acadian texts, controversially proposed that the Onanaki came to

(13:01):
Earth over four hundred thousand years agofrom the planet in Nabiu. Sicians translations
describe how the Ononaki genetically engineered modernhumans to serve as their laborers. While
Sichin's theory remains hotly debated, thosewho believe the Ononaki were more than myth
cite a number of anomalous archaeological sitesand artifacts in support of their claims.

(13:24):
For example, the megalithic structures atgo Beckley Tepe in southern Turkey were built
around twelve thousand years ago, farbefore the accepted origin of civilization. The
incredibly precise and intricate stonework seems unfathomablefor Neolithic humans. Some suggest go Beckley
Tepe may have been established or guidedby the otherworldly knowledge of the Onnaki.

(13:50):
The same could be said for ancientmarvels like the Great Pyramids in Egypt,
whose construction methods continue to baffle modernengineers. How did ancient peoples move and
position massive blocks of limestone and granitewith such precision? Were they helped by
advanced technology from celestial visitors. Sometheorists point to strange artifacts housed in museums

(14:15):
around the world as proof of theOnanaki's presence on Earth. The Sakara bird,
discovered in the sands of Egypt, resembles a modern airplane, complete with
wings and the suggestion of a fuselage. How could ancient humans have designed something
seemingly mimicking modern flight? But thebiggest question is could the Ononaki still be

(14:37):
here today subtly shaping humanity's development intoshadows? While we treat legends of almighty
gods descending from the sky as merefables, perhaps we ignore these stories at
our apperil. If the Ononaki walkedamong ancient humankind, why couldn't their descendants
continue to dwell among us. Somebelieve figures like Thoth and quexolocotal gods who

(15:03):
supposedly taught human beings math, scienceand philosophy and antiquity, were really on
unaki sharing a portion of their advancedknowledge. And if they revealed some of
their secrets thousands of years ago,why wouldn't they continue to share their wisdom
with certain segments of the human population. Today. In fact, some theorized

(15:24):
that the Onunaki never vanished because wecan see them every day. Many of
the world's elite political and financial leadersfrom secret societies like the Illuminati, the
Freemasons, and the Builderberg Group aresaid to be the mortal agents of other
worldly Onunaki overlords. These shadowy organizationspull the strings of modern civilization subtly,

(15:46):
giving us just enough technology to keepus compliant workers, while hoarding their true
scientific breakthroughs, said to be givendirectly to them by their alien masters working
covertly behind the scenes. While noneof them these ideas can be proven definitively,
the mere possibility is enough to makeone wonder. Could ancient aliens really

(16:07):
have visited our planet in its primitivepast, kickstarting human civilization as we know
it? Did they tinker with earlyhominids to fashion modern humans of their own
image? And if the Ononachi existedin antiquity, who's to say they ever
actually left. They could still behere today, hiding in plain sight,

(16:27):
surreptitiously overseeing the progress of the civilizationthey created. One thing is certain.
If the Ononaki are real, theirtrue nature and relationship with humankind is something
we have scarcely begun to understand.Want more paranormality, Subscribe to Paranormality Magazine

(18:12):
her how her bloom must fade, and she herself be laid with withered roses
in the shade. Passing and glassing, a poem by Christina Rosetti have you
ever heard the paranormal theory that suggestsmirrors can become portals to the spirit world.

(18:33):
Many believe that the reflective surfaces ofmirrors connect as doorways for spiritual energy
to pass through. The potential ofthis is chilling by anyone's standards. Could
our fascination with this haunting idea bea product of folklore and superstitions, or
could there really be something sinister lurkingbeyond the glass surface. The notion that

(18:57):
mirrors are connected to the paranormal isnothing new. In fact, it can
be traced back as early as eighteenhundred BC to the Mayan civilization. The
Mayans firmly believed that mirrors and reflectivesurfaces were entrances to spiritual realms. Depictions
of Mayan deities would often have mirrorspainted around them and artwork and throughout religious

(19:18):
records. This strong connection between thespirit world and the mirror would later resurface
in countless cultures throughout history. Whatis quite interesting is how many countries and
religions recognized a connection between the mirrorand the afterlife. This awareness would prompt
people to create superstitions to protect themselvesfrom paranormal prospects. A common practice of

(19:42):
covering mirrors would surface in Jewish funeralrituals as well as Catholic services. Evidence
of mirrors being covered after death canbe observed all around the world in places
such as China, Europe, andNorth America. As mirrors became more common
in homes and estabis pishments throughout time, so did the superstitions and practices regarding

(20:03):
their connections to the afterlife. Manybelieved that a soul would linger close to
the body after death before ascending intothe afterlife. It was thought that the
mirror could distract the spirit from thepath they were meant to take if they
caught a glimpse of themselves, ultimatelytrapping them in the physical world or within
the mirror itself. In addition toprotecting the deceased, many felt that by

(20:27):
covering the mirror, they protected theliving as well. Some believed that the
act of someone dying could summon spiritswithin the mirror that could possibly capture unsuspecting
living relatives. Both beliefs of theparanormal were enough to fuel the superstition throughout
the years. Origins of covering mirrorsafter death can be found in the United

(20:49):
States as early as the seventeen eighties, when artist Prudence Punderson depicted the practice
in her ominous needlework piece the first, second and last scene of Boortexit.
In this piece that she completed justbefore her own death, the macabre theme
is evident. One can observe hercoffin, and just above it there is
a mirror covered with a white cloth. Punderson was not the only American to

(21:14):
partake in this ritual. With manydead from diseases, wars, and lack
of access to modern medicine, funeralsin the United States were a regular occurrence.
Many families would commonly hold funeral servicesin their own homes, so this
practice was considered highly important to protectthe deceased a loved one's soul. The
notion of a spiritual connection with mirrorshas seeped into the fabric of popular folklore

(21:41):
as well. The story of bloodyMary being conjured in the mirror is a
story many might find familiar. Thedaring tale has been told countless times at
sleepovers over the years. Young peopletake turns passing down the legend in dimly
lit rooms, usually illuminated only bya candle. They then try their luck
in front of a mirror by repeatingher name three times. Bloody Mary,

(22:04):
Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary. Whilelittle evidence suggests this legend has any tangible
truth behind it, the game existsas a rite of passage for many thrill
seekers. While old houses and buildingsare often categorized as commonly haunted spaces,
mirrors can also join the ranks ascommonly haunted objects. Perhaps it has something

(22:29):
to do with the rich historic connectionsbelieved by so many cultures, or perhaps
it has something to do with thevery fabric of the spiritual veil itself.
Mirrors are oftentimes the subject of spiritualactivity reported in recent years across the paranormal
landscape. Establishments such as the StanleyHotel, the Roosevelt Hotel, and Zach

(22:51):
Baggin's Museum are some of the manywell known places that boast of owning a
haunted mirror. This phenomenon begs thequestion as to what it is about the
mirror itself that could make it acandidate for a haunting. Could a tragic
event that occurred in close proximity tothe mirror somehow cause the hauntings. Another
avenue for this topic rests in theidea that some believe the physical materials are

(23:15):
to blame. Solid wood frames arecapable of absorbing energy, much like a
sponge can absorb water. The woodand silver glass act as conductors that can
in turn transfer such energy. Whilemost of us love a chilling ghost story
surrounding a mirror, is it possiblethat we could unknowingly invite the narrative into

(23:36):
our own homes. Paranormal activity iscertainly not cut and dry in many cases,
but mirrors could pose a potential riskwhen it comes to ghostly home invasions.
Some paranormal investigators find that residences withtwo or more mirrors facing one another
have potential power to open a portal. Sad portals allow for a myriad of

(23:57):
spirits to enter and exit home, posing a potential threat to whoever resides in
the space. Whether or not thisis true is certainly up for debate.
Personally, I tend to err onthe side of safety, so ensuring no
mirrors face one another in my homefeels like a good paranormal feng Shue.

(24:18):
Wherever you stand on the topic ofthese mirror theories, one thing may be
easy for everyone to agree on.Locations that exist today with reports of paranormal
activity often have something in common. They have mirrors, in many cases plenty
of them. Could it be possiblethat spirits have an open door to sneak
back into the world the living inthis manner, this is certainly an interesting

(24:41):
topic to chew on. Next timeyou catch your reflection in the mirror,
maybe if you stare long enough, you might just catch a misty apparition gazing
back at you. Thanks for listeningto Paranormality Magazine. Get more information about

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
