the age of social media, urbanlegends have taken on a new and fascinating

(01:11):
form. These modern tales of thesupernatural, bizarre, and unexplained spread like
wildfire across the digital landscape, captivatingthe minds of millions and evolving into a
unique genre of folklore. Just ascampfire stories once scared and intrigued our ancestors,
the Internet and social media platforms havebecome the digital campfires where we gather

(01:36):
to share and perpetuate these captivating narratives. Here, we're going to delve into
the world of urban legends in thedigital age and explore how social media is
shaping modern folklore. Urban legends havebeen a part of human storytelling for centuries.
These stories often blur the lines betweenfact and fiction, playing on our

(01:57):
deepest fears and curiosities. In thepast, these tales were spread through word
of mouth, written accounts, andvarious forms of traditional media. However,
the advent of the Internet and socialmedia has revolutionized the way these stories are
created, shared and perpetuated. Oneof the most striking features of urban legends

(02:17):
in the digital age is the speedat which they can go viral. A
single tweet, post, or videocan reach millions of people in a matter
of hours, creating a sense ofurgency and excitement that was previously unimaginable.
This rapid dissemination of stories and informationhas given birth to new urban legends that

(02:38):
are born, evolve, and dieout in a fraction of the time it
once took. Slender Man is aprime example of this phenomenon, created on
an Internet forum in two thousand andnine, This tall, faceless entity quickly
captured the imagination of users and becamea global sensation. Stories, fan fiction,

(02:59):
and even real world incidents inspired byslender Man began to circulate on various
social media platforms, solidifying his statusas a modern urban legend. Social media
platforms have democratized the creation of urbanlegends, allowing anyone with an Internet connection
to contribute to the lore. Creepypastawebsites, reddit forums, and YouTube channels

(03:23):
dedicated to the paranormal have become breedinggrounds for new tales of terror. Users
can contribute their own stories, oftenpresented as personal experiences, adding layers of
authenticity to the narratives. This usergenerated content blurs the lines between reality and
fiction, making it challenging to discernfact from fabrication. Stories of haunted places,

(03:47):
ghostly encounters, and mysterious creatures areshared with such conviction that they gain
traction and become part of the digitalfolklore. The ease with which stories can
be created and share on social mediaalso presents a challenge in determining the authenticity
of urban legends. In the past, it was often easier to trace the

(04:08):
origins of a legend through printed sourcesor oral history. However, in the
digital age, the true source ofa story may be elusive, making it
difficult to separate fact from fiction. This ambiguity adds an extra layer of intrigue
to modern urban legends. The uncertaintysurrounding their origins fuels speculation and debate,

(04:29):
making them even more captivating to adigital audience hungry for mysteries and the unexplained.
Visual media, such as images andvideos, play a crucial role in
shaping modern urban legends. Photoshopped images, deep fake videos, and cleverly edited
footage can turn ordinary occurrences into supernaturalevents. These visuals are easily shared on

(04:51):
social media, and their impact canbe profound. For instance, the Momo
Challenge, a viral hoax that circulatedon social media in twenty eighteen, featured
a grotesque and terrifying image of awoman with bulging eyes. It was claimed
that this image was connected to asinister online challenge that encouraged self harm and

(05:14):
even suicide among young users. Althoughthe challenge was ultimately debunked as a hoax,
the fear and hysteria it generated werevery real. Thanks to the power
of visual media in the digital age, social media platforms serve as a vast
repository of modern folklore. Hashtags, groups and accounts dedicated to urban legends create

(05:35):
communities of enthusiasts who actively participate inthe creation, discussion, and dissemination of
these stories. From Facebook groups dedicatedto investigating local ghost stories to Twitter threads
recounting supernatural experiences, social media hasbecome a hub for modern folklore enthusiasts.
In addition to textual narratives, socialmedia allows for the preservation and sharing of

(06:00):
audio and video recordings, further enrichingthe tapestry of modern urban legends. As
these stories continue to evolve and adaptto the digital landscape, they become an
integral part of our contemporary cultural heritage. Urban legends and the digital age have
a profound impact on society. Theyreflect our collective fears, anxieties, and

(06:21):
desires. These stories can serve ascautionary tales, reinforcing societal norms and values,
or they can challenge the status quo, prompting discussions about the unknown and
the unexplained. The power of thesestories extends beyond entertainment. They can influence
behavior, shape beliefs, and evenhave real world consequences. From online challenges

(06:46):
that result in injuries, to falseclaims of paranormal activity leading to property disputes.
The influence of modern urban legends cannotbe underestimated. Urban legends have found
a new home in the digital age, where social media platforms serve as the
campfires around which we gather to shareand perpetuate these captivating narratives. The speed

(07:08):
of virality, the power of usergenerated content, challenges and authenticity, the
role of visual media, and socialmedia's role as a repository all contribute to
the evolution of modern folklore. Ina world where information travels at the speed
of light, urban legends continue tocaptivate and intrigue us, reflecting our ever

(07:30):
evolving fears and curiosities. As longas there are mysteries to be unraveled and
the unexplained to be explored, urbanlegends in the digital age will continue to
shape our modern folklore, reminding usthat the world is still full of wonder
and mystery waiting to be discovered inthe vast expanse of the digital realm.

(07:57):
In a puzzling and eerie series ofthe v a mother and her daughter were
left shaken after a vehicle appeared toapproach them and then inexplicably vanished on River
Acre Road in Cheshire. This bizarreincident is the second of its kind on
this road, and both occurrences arecurrently under investigation by Professor Rob Gandy of

(08:18):
Liverpool's John Moore's University, who findsthese events incomprehensible. The initial encounter took
place in June twenty eighteen, whenthe mother and daughter saw a car with
headlights approaching them, only for itto abruptly turn off its lights and disappear,
leaving behind nothing but a hedge. Two months later, in August twenty
eighteen, they experienced another inexplicable occurrencewhen a man suddenly appeared in front of

(08:43):
their vehicle. Believing they had hithim, they exited the car to investigate,
but found no trace of the man. These unsettling encounters left the witnesses
too terrified to return to that road. Professor Gandy, a statistician and health
service manager, has been collecting storiesof road ghosts and hitchhiker ghosts for nearly

(09:05):
a decade. His interest in thesupernatural was sparked by his childhood fascination with
ghost stories, and he has sincegathered a significant number of chilling tales from
various locations, including the Ruskington Horrorin Lincolnshire. Doctor Gandhi's actively seeking witnesses
to South World's counterpart to the RuskingtonHorror, aiming to compile and analyze these

(09:26):
perplexing experiences, emphasizing the importance ofdocumenting such occurrences before they fade into obscurity.
Have you ever seen the movie JeepersCreepers? What you might not know
is that the beginning scene of JeeperScreepers, where Justin Long's character witnesses a

(09:52):
man dumping behind a building, isactually based on a true story of a
murder and a manhunt that happened justoutside of Coldwater, Michigan, in April
nineteen ninety. Ray and Marie Thorntonwere taking a casual Sunday drive down snow
Prairie Road between Coldwater and Bronson whenthey saw Dennis to Pew's van speeding past

(10:13):
them, and then a few milesup the road they saw a man dumping
a white sheet with red stains onit. That same van was sitting right
there. The Thorntons continued to drivewhen that van was tailing them, and
later they saw that man changing outthe license plates of the van while they
drove by. The passenger door wasopen and it was covered with blood.

(10:35):
The couple decided to go back towhere they saw Dennis dumping the blood stained
sheet. They found human tissue andparts of bone. They immediately left to
call the police for help. Marylandwas found the next day, on April
sixteenth, nineteen ninety not too faraway from the schoolhouse. Dennis took off
and headed to Texas, where hemoved in with a new girlfriend. Along

(10:58):
the way, he mailed letters tothe school where she worked at, and
others started receiving letters as well.Dennis thought he'd escaped the murder of his
ex wife, but that all cameto an end in March nineteen ninety one
when Unsolved Mysteries aired the story.Dennis immediately got spooked and took off,
telling his girlfriend that his mom wassick and he was urgently needed at the

(11:18):
hospital. But one of her friendshad seen the episode and recognized Dennis and
told his girlfriend about it. Shethen called the police with a new license
plate number of the van. Dennismade it all the way to Louisiana before
police recognized the van and started apursuit after him. Dennis managed to get

(11:39):
through a couple of roadblocks, butpolice finally shot out his back tires.
This then led to a shootout withpolice, but it was his own gun
that took his life. On Marchtwenty first, nineteen ninety one, Dennis
de Pew took his own life ona highway in Mississippi, meaning Maryland's friends
and family would never get real justicef her murder. Now, how did

(12:01):
it all come down to this?In April nineteen eighty nine, Maryland filed
for divorce due to relationship troubles.Dennis blamed her job at Coldwater High School,
where she worked as a guidance counselor. One man described her as she
always had a fifty style haircut, and everybody loved her in the community for
that fact. It's pretty crazy toknow that this was the inspiration to one

(12:24):
of Colt Horror's favorite films. DanCostello, a former diver, has come
forward with a remarkable account of hisinvolvement in a secretive project that allegedly included
Prince Charles now King Charles. Costelloclaims that he worked as a diver on

(12:48):
Project Scorpio, which took place inSandy Point, Newfoundland. According to his
extraordinary account, the Prince was evolvedin testing a peculiar helicopter type vessel with
UFO like characteristics, sparking a waveof intrigue and disbelief. The vessel in
question, as described by Costello, had a round UFO like shape, featured

(13:11):
a propeller, and was reportedly createdby the American aircraft manufacturer Sikorski. What
sets this aircraft apart from traditional helicoptersis the assertion that it was powered by
magnetic force, not conventional engines.Although this unconventional craft does not have any
extraterrestrial origins, it would still technicallyqualify as an unidentified flying object. However,

(13:37):
the story takes a bizarre turn whenCostello alleges that the Sikorski prototype was
an electrical risk and a target ofattacks that resulted in the deaths of original
Sikorski engineers. He claims that numerousturbines experienced emergency shutdowns while submerged, necessitating
special forces divers to enter high voltagerisk zones to prevent potential catastrophic events.

(14:01):
Costello goes on to claim that bothRoyal Navy Reserve members and Sikorski engineering crews
lost their lives due to terrorist andvandal attacks on the prototype. This aspect
of the story lends an air ofintrigue akin to a Hollywood thriller. He
further contends that King Charles Prince Charlesat the time, along with this eight
hundred and forty five Squadron aircrew extractedthe prototype Sikorski after the original engineer's drowned.

(14:26):
According to Costello, the uncontrollable eventssurrounding the craft could have resulted in
mass death of tens of thousands acrossthree counties if not for the intervention of
the Royal Navy. In another extraordinarytwist, Costello describes witnessing a pyramid shaped
UFO in Egypt and recounts a bizarreincident involving the Sikorski prototype. He claims

(14:48):
that an uncontrolled burst of energy fromthe craft caused a blue flame to emanate
from its underside. This blue plasmalike pulse allegedly had the power to transform
rocks into glass and tree limbs intocinders without the need for an open flame.
Describing a phenomenon, Costello states theheat transformed the trees along its semaphore

(15:11):
line flight path instantly into wood ash. It carried along that path somewhat under
control of a secondary, large nosedrotary craft, which looked like a giant
west Hall whirligig. The claims madeby Costello, while captivating and seemingly fantastical,
have yet to be substantiated. They'vegained attention due to their peculiar nature,
prompting further exploration in a documentary producedby NUBTV available at aazat. Whether

(15:37):
these claims are fact or fiction remainsa subject of debate, leaving many intrigued
and baffled by the astonishing narrative ofProject Scorpio and the involvement with King Charles
piloting a UFO. Want more Paranimality, Subscribe to Paranormality Magazine and each month

(17:17):
Oxfordshire has come forward with a hauntingtale of love, divorce and ghostly stalking.
Rocarda's otherworldly odyssey began in late twentytwenty one when she claimed to have
fallen in love with Eduardo, theapparition of a Victorian soldier who mysteriously manifested
in her home. Approximately a yearlater, Ricarda announced that she and Eduardo

(17:40):
had tied the spectral knut, makingtheir union official. However, the relationship
took a chilling turn when Brocarda accusedthe ethereal Eduardo of infidelity, prompting her
to call in an exorcist to severtheir supernatural bond. Convinced that Eduardo had
been banished from her life, treatedherself to a trip to France in search

(18:02):
of a fresh start. While exploringthe city of Love, she encountered another
ghostly suitor named Fabian near the iconicEiffel Tower. Little did she know her
newfound love interest was not what hadseemed. Ricarda recounted the eerie encounter,
saying, I was walking down thebanks of the River Senne, chasing the
shadow of the Eiffel Tower, coweringunder my umbrella as raindrops poured off it,

(18:26):
and then it struck me, glisteningin a puddle, the reflection of
a French Man. I tilted myumbrella back, but nobody was around.
I looked back towards the puddle, and the man was clear as the ocean.
Thinking she'd found a romantic connection,Rocarda began to embrace her holiday romance
with this mysterious Fabian. However, her happiness was short lived when Fabian later

(18:49):
revealed himself to be none other thanEduardo in disguise. Ricarda felt deceived,
exclaiming I couldn't believe I had beencatfished by a ghost. As Ricarda attempted
to move on with her life. She decided to date living breathing men.
Eduardo, however, was not pleasedwith her newfound interest in the living.

(19:11):
I cautiously started to go on dateswith living humans, she explained. I
returned home from a date with abunch of flowers, and Eduardo thought it
would be amusing to pull the headsoff all those roses and scatter the petals
on my bed. Eduardo's jealousy tookon more sinister forms as he began to
display eerie behaviors. Ricarda shared He'seven learned to play careless whisper on the

(19:34):
saxophone. I mean, at leastI think it's him. The sound echoes
in the distance sometimes when I'm takinga bath in candlelight. Desperate to win
back her affections, Eduardo underwent astartling transformation. Ricarda described her shock,
saying He's even given himself a modernmakeover and presented himself as a candle I

(19:55):
thought I was going crazy when theimage of him with cropped blonde hair and
a pink sou appeared. Seeking guidance, Rocarda consulted a medium who delivered an
unsettling revelation. A medium told meEdwardo would always be with me, Rocarda
confessed, and that's a thought thatI can't come to terms with. Despite
her struggle to rid herself of Eduardo'sspectral presence, Ricarda remains resolute in her

(20:19):
pursuit of a more conventional love life. She concluded, moving forward, I
feel like I need a bit offlesh on my bones. Skeletons and dead
men may seem hot, but inreality they are stone cold, unpredictable,
and scary. Ricardo's harrowing ordeal servesas a chilling reminder that love, even

(20:40):
in the afterlife, can be hauntinglycomplicated. A knife wielding butcher, a
beautiful bride in white, and afisherman named Lewis with the blood of two
innocent women on his hands are justa few of the many by symbodied spirits
who roam a group of nine smallislands off the shores of Maine and New

(21:04):
Hampshire. The mysterious, haunted, and terrifying islands are called the Isle of
Shoals. Located six miles off theeast coast of the United States, are
a small group of islands called theIsles of Shoals, vulnerable to New England's
cruel and unrelenting weather. It isa place where only the strong survive.

(21:26):
The Isle of Shoals, unforgiving rockycoastline, was settled by the Europeans in
the early seventeenth century. They wereestablished as one of the many fishing areas
for the British and French colonies, the total area of the islands adding up
to only one hundred and forty fiveacres. The use of the Isle of
Shoals dates back over four hundred years. It's been used as both a prominent

(21:48):
fishing industry and a desired vacation destination. In its infancy, it was also
a place where pirates would lay low, escaping penalties for their past crimes.
But pirates were not the only nefariousones to inhabit the islands. Appledoor,
a territory of Maine, has thedistinction of being the largest of these small

(22:10):
islands, coming in at point fivebi point six miles wide. Philip Bab
arrived with his family on the islandof apple Doore during the early sixteen sixties.
Bab was known to be an illmannered man who was known by many
to be wicked and Loathsome Interestingly,he was also reported to have been a
shipmate of Captain Kidd, who wassaid to have murdered his entire crew to

(22:33):
protect his buried treasure hidden on thesmall island, birds of a feather do
indeed flock together. Along with beinga less than desirable friend and neighbor,
Bab was a butcher, innkeeper, and constable on the island of Appledoor.
It was in early March sixteen seventyone that the butcher lost his life.

(22:55):
However, his spirit seems to havedecided to stay. The ghostly image of
Phil Bab has been seen roaming theisland of Appledor's rocky shores during the dead
of night. More than a fewpeople have reported seeing a large figure with
sunken eyes, wearing a butcher's frockand brandishing a knife on the island.
One eye witness stated that he'd seena mysterious figure walking along the shore of

(23:17):
Bab's cove one night. He describedthe figure as being large, with hollowed
out eyes, and sporting a butcher'sfrock that glowed. Upon approaching the mysterious
figure, the witness let out ashrill scream, causing the apparition to vanish
into thin air. Another native ofthe island had his own story to tell.
While leaving his workshop one night, the man encountered a frightening apparition.

(23:41):
The witness stated that the ghostly figurebegan running straight for him, brandishing a
knife. Catching a glimpse of hisface by the pale moonlight, he reported
seeing the unmistakable image of the angrybutcher himself, Philip bab Turning on his
heel, he headed straight for him, his feet barely touching the ground.
The following is a story of amore gruesome nature. During the month of

(24:04):
June eighteen seventy two, John Hauntvitthired Lewis Wagner as a fishing hand to
help with the operations of his fishingcompany. By then, John and his
wife Marin had been living on theisland of Smutty Nose for two years.
Hauntfitt supplied Lewis with a job, food and a place to live. After
working for the Hantfitt family for sometime, Lewis decided to venture out on

(24:27):
his own. He purchased a fishingboat with the hope of starting his own
business. Unfortunately for Lewis, hecrashed his boat, which caused his business
to fail, and Lewis suddenly foundhimself broke and destitute. He was forced
to spend his days trolling the docksof Portsmouth, New Hampshire, helping vessels
tie up as they entered the wharfto support himself. On the afternoon of

(24:52):
March fifth, eighteen seventy three,Lewis caught wind that his old employer,
John Hauntfitt and his crew would notbe returning home home until the following morning.
Knowing that the Hauntvit cottage would beunattended by John, the out of
work fisherman devised a plan to burglarizethe Hantfit family home. Twenty eight year
old Lewis Wagner stole a dory androde roughly ten to twelve miles from the

(25:15):
shore of the Piscataqua River to thesmall island of Smuntynose. Now, for
all of you, including some ofmy own family members, who believed that
a twelve mile trip in a woodendory would take way too much time for
Lewis to have committed the murders, consider this. In twenty thirteen, seventy
five year old Dan O'Reilly completed Wagner'sroute from the shore of the Piscataqua to
the island of Smuttynose. He didit in a wooden dory, and he

(25:38):
did it in only two hours andfourteen minutes. So now we know never
underestimate the power of a determined man. Allegedly, Lewis's plan was to rob
the Hantwitz cottage after the three womeninside, Maren, Karen Christiansen and Aneth
Christiansen had gone to bed. Withthe women asleep, Lewis had planned to

(25:59):
sneak again, steal what he could, and get out with anyone being the
wiser, a sinister plan that bya deadly margin had failed. Frozen snow
could be heard crunching beneath Lewis's feetas he approached the Hanfitz cottage. He
entered through an unlocked door, andin a cruel, premeditated move, he
shoved a piece of wood through thelatch of the master bedroom's door, locking

(26:22):
Maren and her sister in law andEthe inside. Startled awake by the family's
barking dog, Maren's little sister Karen, mistook Lewis for Maren's husband, John
Groggy, and half awake, shecalled out to him, and a panic
Lewis beat Karen unconscious with a chair. The other two women, having escaped
their room. Terrified and recognizing thegravity of the situation, barricaded themselves back

(26:47):
inside the bedroom. Maren forced Anthout through the bedroom window to safety.
Unfortunately for her sister in law,the decision to escape via the bedroom window
landed her right into the waiting armsof Lewis Wagner. He took an axe
from the woodpile, and raising itabove his head, killed an f with
one fatal blow. Her blood quietlyspilled onto the pure white snow. Unable

(27:10):
to convince Karen to leave the cottage, Maren ran for her life, heading
for the shore on the far sideof the small island. She hunkered down
until morning. With the safety ofdaylight and with frozen feet, Maren waded
into the breakwater and began waving herarms, attracting the attention of a family
on the neighboring island. Upon realizingMaren had successfully escaped, Lewis headed back

(27:32):
to the cottage to fix himself apot of coffee and a snack, but
not before delivering the last and finaldeadly blow to Maren's sister Karen. Before
leaving the home for good, Louisstole all the money on the property,
the sum total of fifteen dollars. One can't help but wonder what kind of
a man would justify taking the livesof two innocent women and forever altering the

(27:56):
life of a third for fifteen dollars, a snack and a coffee. A
full scale manhunt would eventually deliver Lewisto the proper authorities, and he would
be hanged months later for the grislymurder of the two Island women. The
bones of the Hauntvet Cottage on SmuttynoseIsland no longer exist, However, its
foundation remains strange and unusual occurrences areoften reported around where the home once stood.

(28:22):
Paranormal enthusiasts have left trinkets on theHolmes foundation that are said to move
left and right without assistance. Peoplehave also reported a dark and ominous presence
on the island. The smell ofcoffee and malfunctioning equipment is often recorded as
well. Other witnesses have claimed tosee and hear strange things around the property
of the Hantvet home and terrifying EVPsof blood curdling screams have been captured in

(28:48):
the cove along the island's rocky shoreline. Interestingly, most believe that the ghost
of Lewis Wagner has remained on theisland not to harass and terrify islanders,
but to at for his deadly, unintended actions. I for one, am
not buying it. Lewis may infact also be roaming' Smunnynose Island looking for
his axe, the survival tool turneddeadly weapon used to terminate the lives of

(29:14):
the two innocent women. But thejokes on him. The bloody axe is
no longer on the small island. It is stored under glass in the Portsmouth
Athenaeum. Smutty Nose didn't just attractthe likes of innocent Swedish women, It
was a stomping ground for pirates aswell. The infamous Blackbeard, the most
notorious and feared of all the pirates, was drawn to the Isle of Shoals

(29:36):
by way of his honeymoon with hisfifteenth wife, Yes, fifteenth wife.
According to legend, Blackbeard hid hisgold all over the small twenty five acre
island. However, like most honeymoons, nothing lasts forever. The infamous pirate
was soon called away to battle Britishwarships. Before he departed, Blackbeard instructed

(29:56):
his wife to stay on the islandand guard his gold. Unlike the legendary
luck of the Irish, Blackbeard's luckeventually ran out. He was killed off
the coast of North Carolina, deathby decapitation compliments of Captain Maynard. Waiting
years on the tiny island for hervillainous husband to return, Blackbeard's blushing bride

(30:18):
eventually died, never having received closurefor her groom's failed return. She is
said to roam the island, continuingto honor her dastardly husband's order to protect
his gold. The ghost of Blackbeard'sbride is also said to speak to those
who would listen, assuring visitors andislanders alike that he will be back.
Witnesses have reported seeing a woman inwhite staring out into the ocean, saying

(30:42):
he will be back. Eerie EVPshave been collected on the island of Smutty
Nose confirming such events. Others havereported seeing the ghostly apparition of Blackbeard himself
moving on. We mustn't forget StarIsland, the island that is now considered
a favorite for spiritual retreats. Oncea desolate, uncharted no man's land,

(31:06):
Star Island is evolved into a bustlinghotspot for those seeking to connect with the
holier side of themselves. With littleWiFi, no cable, and spotty cell
service, the odds are more thanlikely that an energetic connection would be your
best and only bet. Two sistersborn and raised in Kittery Point, Maine,
spent more than their fair share oftime on Star Island since the nineteen

(31:30):
twenties, and they've got a fewthrilling ghost stories of their own. One
sister spoke of waking up in theoceanic house hearing furniture being moved throughout the
night in the floor above her room. Inquiring about the noise. The next
morning, she was told no onewas up there attending a lecture. A
couple of years later, she learnedthe area above the space where she had

(31:51):
been sleeping was referred to as GhostAlley. One of the sisters also recalled
being a substitute ranger on the islandof Smuttynose, filling in one night for
the ranger on duty. She excitedlyrowed her boat from Star Island to Smutty
Nose, eager to embark on asolo overnight shift. A little before one
am, she was awoken by thelatch rattling on the back door of the

(32:14):
Haley House. Upon investigating the noise, the rattling stopped. No sooner did
she fall asleep than the rattling startedagain. She heard the rattling for a
third time, but this time itwas coming from the room underneath the stairs.
Suffice it to say she was morethan taken aback as she knew she
was all alone on the island. The same sister tells another scary tale of

(32:37):
an early morning spooky experience. Thepounding was heard on the front door of
the Haley House, again, withnot another soul on the island. She
also claimed to have been locked insidean outhouse on Smutty Nose Isle, with
only two sleeping companions on the islandwith her. But ghostly legends are not
meant for land alone. A favoritephantom store of mine tells of a ship

(33:00):
by the name of Isidore who's shipwreckedsuccumbing to the deadly nature of the sea
immediately surrounding the Isle of Shoals inthe year eighteen forty two people have sporadically
reported seeing Isidor patrolling the bays, but only for a few moments at a
time before her ghostly apparition vanishes beforetheir eyes. Do ghosts exist? I'm

(33:22):
not sure we'll ever know, however, what we know for sure is that
there are nine tiny islands quietly guardingthe shores of both Maine and New Hampshire.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
