You ate.
But instead of feeling energized… you feel heavier.
More tired.
More anxious.
More empty.
What if your food isn’t just failing to nourish you —
but quietly making your depression worse?
In this powerful episode, mindfulness and emotional wellness expert Dr. Soha reveals the hidden link between your plate and your mood — and why certain foods can deepen brain fog, drain motivation, and fuel emotional numbness.
It’s not about willpower.
It’s about inflammation, blood sugar crashes, and gut imbalance — all of which directly impact your brain and mental health.
Dr. Soha breaks down:
  • The common foods that worsen depression (even the ones marketed as “healthy”)
  • How sugar, processed oils, and refined carbs sabotage your serotonin and dopamine
  • The gut-brain connection: why 90% of your serotonin is made in your gut
  • 7 science-backed foods that naturally lift mood, reduce anxiety, and boost mental clarity
  • Simple swaps to transform your meals — without diet culture or deprivation

This isn’t a magic cure.
But it is a missing piece for so many struggling with low mood: real food as medicine for the mind.
🎧 If you’ve ever eaten lunch and felt like crying an hour later… this episode will change the way you see food — forever.
Because healing doesn’t always start in therapy.
Sometimes, it starts in the kitchen.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Okay? First of all, depression could be deadly.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Depression could be taking hold for our mental health, on
our health.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
It can lead to very.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Complicated situations in life, and we don't want that right.
We want our lives to be good, We want our
live to be happy, We want our lives to be abundant,
don't be so instead of kind of resisting the food,

(01:47):
have you ever thought given a thought to this very
concept that depression could be slowed down or would be
in a way lowered down because of several food sources
available to us. And before taking anti anti any entire depresent,

(02:13):
you must.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Consider these alternatives. Right.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
First, coffee and many of us we are coffee lovers,
aren't we? And and Marshall lovers as well. And guess
what why am I saying? Coffee? Because it has got
to cap him and it can boost you in a

(02:45):
motivated direction. And if somebody is having a post bottom
depression chap or a bandon disorder, there are several studies
which says that if you are having such symptoms and
you then consume copy these symptoms.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
They don't go away, but the risk.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Of you being affected by those symptoms becomes lesser. And
this is a good good thing.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Right.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Then the second thing is leapy greens. We all know
that sleapy greens are good for us since we are
you know, in our childhood we're being told by our
parents' family friends at greens at greens all the time

(03:45):
because they are packed with vitamins and minerals and foliate
and this voliate this helps brain cells, which we need
for our brain to work well and which may help
protect us against depression. And guess what in unit says

(04:09):
a study was conducted in wood manufacturers. They conducted that
study and they said that if the white man B
nine is added in our food source like we we
can find it in enriched cranes and pass and rise,

(04:34):
and we can get it and get it in from
of lentens and beans and asparagus, then our body gets
the tendency to fight back depression. How amazing right nature
has Goddess. We just have to pay attention and the

(04:55):
direct kind of awareness.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Now.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Third thing is amega three and omega three. If it
is in form of some the fatty asses and a
mega three which is normally high in the poly saturated

(05:20):
fats and which is found in salmon and dona and
several other fish species, it can help us combating our depression.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
This may help.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Us having our brain cells use these chemicals that can
affect our mood in a positive way.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Few small studies.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Were conducted on this and they found the correligion among
our brain depression and.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Magathri Again. Fourth one is carrots.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Do you know that carrots are full of beta carotine
and this can help us tremendously if we are having
higher levels of depression.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
The same is found in pumpkin, spinach.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Sweet potatoes, and then there is not much evidence to
prove this thing. But many people say that if they
eat carrots, especially if they're feeling low and they are
feeling anxious and they eat carrots, they feel relieved immediately.

(06:54):
Perhaps they're munching. This can be a thing, or carrots
raally are affecting. They are useful, it's a proven thing.
Then comes nuts.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Fifth thing? Why nots because they are rich.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
In several antioxidants and selenium, and they can help our
body to protect a cell from the damaging particles called
free radicals. So one study found that those people who

(07:38):
include nuts in their diets they are less pronto depression.
Are the food which has got high level SOFA mineral
in them, which be brown rice, lean beef, seafood, and
of course sunflowersy. But yet again, some power seats are

(08:03):
said to be associated with information, so for that you
have to ask your healthpectation perform. Then one more thing
which we are normally consuming every day, except for those
who got this tendency in them that they are allergic

(08:24):
to it in some way or have a electric acid allergy.
Male it is a good source of vitamin D along
with that, what it does it fights back depression and
in normay, a study was conducted and several people took

(08:44):
quite man D as a supplement, and those people who
took quite man D they were seen less depressed, less
in stress, which is why now it's kind of a
proven thing that it helps.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Okay, so we have discussed.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
What to eat to fight back depression, but what to
avoid if we are feeling depressed. Mainly process food because
it directly effects our mood. Diet high in sugar, simple carbohydrates,

(09:27):
and fatty food affect how we feel, which is why
many health practitioners ailing these two things meaning on healthy eating,
patron and depression alongside.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
So be cautious.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Then you have to avoid drugs at any cars. Don't
find them your depression body and keep them as your ass.
It's a big nose because they are not helping you,
they are destroying you completely.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Same goals for alcohol and smoking. Sometimes when there is
a pressure on.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
Us, we find we try to find, you know, piece
in alcohol or smoking or drugs, which is very wrong.
Although some people say that drinking beer or you know,
even wine in moderation helps you and it lifts you rude,

(10:30):
but guess what if it is doing so and you're
consuming it, then it can lead you to be an alcoholic.
And while you are trying to solve the problem of
depression for you, you will land an yet another bigger
problem than depression and alcohol. It is something which destroys

(10:58):
families and homes. To be aware of it and try
not to consume it, okay, same goes for drugs.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
That is a big no no no.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
And smoking also for the timing, smoking fields like it's
giving us a free passage, an escape from our condition,
from our depression, from our situation. But it's not a

(11:29):
permanent thing, right, So try that you must not smoke.
Train your mind in such a way that you won't
be needing any smoke. It's injurious for you. It's cancerous
and all the cautions they originally pots.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Of smokes, but even then people do smoke.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
So next time and you are feeling depressed, at least
give it a thought that this depression can be cured
with very simple things and food can help you. So
living a real life and live a healthy life and
your mental health will follow.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
And if your mental health is in place, then your
life is a place. Whatever you want to achieve.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
In life, there's a better chance of you two achieving
that in real time without wasting your energy and without
wasting your life, receiving abundance through a wholesome life. That
should be your monitor. Okay, okay, so that's it for today.
