Speaker 1 (00:16):
And welcome back to the pod. There has been a
few weeks since we last recorded. A lot happened, uh
for starters, Will needed to reschedule, and then there was
a trade headline the All Star Break does didn't want
to go over state issues, and then there's a couple
other things happened in between. So that's where everything is

(00:42):
at for baseball updates. Raleigh won the home run Derby.
Trade headline was, well.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
That was a doozy.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Uh yeah, no, it was great. Anything else I'm missing
that your of.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
You're missing the pole?

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yeah, of course. So I also put up a poll
in the July of who should win a l m VP,
Aaron Judge who is currently hurt or cal Rally, and
at the time there was only seven votes. That happened
cal Rally won, Yeah, exactly overall that that's okay.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
So pretty much seven people have spoken that cal Riley
will win the al m VP at the end of
the season.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
And then there obviously other people are going to say more.
We won't know until the writers do their voting at
the end of the year, right, but we're Judge being
hurt and then going d h the rest of the
season is going to be a big blow to him.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yes, he's not going to get as much time plays and.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
His Mickey Mouse ballpark that he plays in stadium, you
know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Yeah, in some other sports news, we all know that
the Colorado Rockies are the worst team in the in
the MLB right now with a wopping thirty and eighty four.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
And then the Minnesota Twins had a fire sale because
apparently their ownership.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Was in a debt.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Like they were in debt. Why do you think they
trade away Johan Duran, Griffin, Jacks, Carlos Correa, literally like
ten players from their major league grosser and they had
like eight people debut on like the day after the
trade deadline, right.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
So Minnesota before they all start breaking. Before the trade deadline,
they were in contention with Cleveland, and now they are
below Kansas City. Oh no, the second worst team in
the AL. They're actively tanking.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
They they sold off and got stuff in return.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
They won't be as worse as a White Sox tore
right now.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Yeah, the White Sox actually traded people at the deadline
this year.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah, they did.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
They traded Wide, They traded Slater. Oh yeah, they traded
Adrian Hauser, who was Abby and quite a good year
and got sent down to Tampa, who both bought and sold.
And then they also traded one I like to say
they traded a way one other guy and who's still
on the team Louise Robert.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Louise Robert Jr. The Dodgers didn't want to take his
twenty million a year contract.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
San Diego didn't. The Twins didn't, not twins. The Yankees
and Mets both didn't.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
But since he has been on the sock since then,
he has been hitting pretty well.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Before that he was hitting one eighty.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Six, Yes, but he has actually been hitting very well.
Huh uh.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
And then, of course, like Milwaukee did the Andrew Vaughan
thing when Mauzarowski got called up. Mazarowski is currently hurt
and with Vaughan like since going over to Milwaukee's hitting
like three seventy something with seven homers and like go
well over one thousand ops, that is I think. Oh,

(04:10):
and by the way, how would you agree to the
Yankees trade deadline? Ryan McMahon.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Failure?

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Oh, and then they got ripped off with their trade
with Colorado? Oh what was that trade? I have the
trade page opened up. I have to go over to
the Yankees and Yankee Yankee Yankee on the July first.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Since you're looking that up, we also have to mention
that since Vaughan got traded to the Fire Yeah, as I.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Said those when I went over Vaughn's numbers when he
was Sence, he's been with Milwaukee. Absolute wild.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
It's wild when you're not on a team that actively sucks. Right,
it could be worse. He could be in the best
bar in Denver, oh course field.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Literally the best bar in Denver. The I'm gonna have
to just google this to this right because it's not
showing up on ESPN aside sports.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Jake Bird, Oh, Jake Bird.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
He traded from Colorado to the Yankees, like the Highway Robbery.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Colorado won that, oh no, easily.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
And then of course you have Toronto acquiring Shane Bieber
from Cleveland, although yes, Bieber is currently your hurt still
but is in the middle recovering and close to be returning.
Who got Suarez suarezh Seattle got Suarez. Seattle had like
one of the best deadlines. They got Naylor, they got Suarez,
they got a Caleb Ferguson, and then that's about it.

(06:01):
Milwaukee trade away Nestor Cortes because they didn't need more
starting pitching. They got a couple relievers essentially in Jordan
Montgomery and like Shelby Miller.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
And then from Tampa they got backup catcher Danny Jensen
who grew up in Appleton. Fun fact, and then now,
if I were to grade Milwaukee's trade deadline, I would give.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
It like, see, yeah, they were average.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
They were just it was just kind of there that
not really much happened.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
The Cubs failed, mercilessly failed. They need they.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Needed a top of the line starter. They did not
get that. Micro Soroka is a middle of the rotation starter.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
What do you think they're.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Right? Yeah, they're They're five games behind Milwaukee.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
The Cubs have also gotten a like a utility player
who was one of the bear bats on the deadline
Milwaukee could have gotten, which we brought that trade deadline
for them up to like a C plus maybe, but otherwise, uh,
the Cubs didn't really do what they needed to do.
They kind of just black bear words shit the bed.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Yep so in current event news. Just remember we're both conservative,
well like conservative.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Leaning conservative like conservatorian so part libertarian park conservative.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
President Trump has told everyone or told the US in
Russia that he will He's going to make a decision
next week what to do with Russia.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Oh yeah, that is going to be called secondary tariffs
from my understanding, where a country that actively trades with
Russia is going to get a second like one of
those tariffs where anything they send out from their country
that came in from Russia gets like a huge tariff.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Probably. Yeah, And it's either that, it's that and Russia
is gonna get sanctioned again.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Or both likely both.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
What else? What else happened? Any state state stuff? Oh?

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Yes, Tony Ebs is not going to be running for
governor again for a third term. Pritzker is gonna be
running for governor of Illinois. Or should we refer to
him as Jajoba the Hut or do you want to
refer to him as fat bastard?

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Both is acceptable in my mind.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
I thought you were gonna refer to him his asshole.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
He is.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
Okay? Then there What else has been going on in
this Oh, they're in the world of AI. Well, let's
simply put they had laid off There's a company that
laid off a bunch of it and hr folk.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Oh yeah, and Microsoft's have laid off may probably their company.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Well, like with HR and AI is replacing a lot
of white collar jobs and it's just going to create
new jobs later on. But they have to learn how
to do whatever, and so it's like that makes you think, Wow,
why did we ask kids to learn the code when
AI is replacing a lot of jobs and then you
have to obviously like fix airs. AI makes that.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
The reason why people say that is because usually it's
it's usually because of the way that AI has evolved
since people have said that twenty years ago. Yep, we
didn't know twenty years ago that AI would take over
as much as it does now, right.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
But at the same time, we never needed AI to
be made.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Remember when we were going to Whitewater, there was no AI.
There was nothing there. Maybe was minimal AI, but nothing
like chat GBT.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
No like chat beat. Chat GBT version three was still prevalent.
Then four came out just as we were finishing.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Right, and now they're speeding out five.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
Right. But the whole thing with again all the AI,
AI chatbots is now none of that's really needed. It's
just people were bored so they decided to create it.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Well yes, but now that's going to inadvertently kill many, many,
many jobs and then prompt GBT and boom, there you go.
Here's your what here's you're saying. Look at doctors nowadays, Hey,
I can literally say, well, that's cancer, and it would
take doctors years to go through that.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Yeah yeah, it would, well not really your well it's
like not really identifying cancer. They can still identify that
pretty quickly, but they can't they do it within that
very instant.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Right, Let's uh, let's take a little break here.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Yeah, we'll take a short break and we'll go over
some other things that have happened, maybe bs a little.
We'll figure it out.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
And we're back. So uh.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
One of the things we thought of was like, oh, yeah,
that's right. There was the whole Sydney Sweeney ad controversy
on that.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
That's my hole.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
I mean, it's just a younger, nicer, lurking lady who
was just in a jeens commercial and it said she
has good jeans.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
And yet the liberals are going crazy.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
Oh yeah, they're like thinking, oh no, it's eugenics.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
No, no, I was supposed to that, That's not what
that's supposed to mean at all.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
She was wearing American Eagle jeans and a jean jacket.
Like although yes, the Sweeney is a conservative, loves her guns,
loves working on trucks. But it's this whole vibe shift thing, right,
And what's going at the whole vibe shift is a
lot of the younger people like the crowd, who are
just starting to go back to church and or enter

(12:09):
church for the first time. They're more or less like
they want either. Lets like, most of the women are
liberal from our age group, right yep, Yet they're wanting
social conservatism while most of the guys of our duration

(12:30):
are more on the conservative half the compass.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Any thoughts, I don't really have any thoughts on it
other than people need to stop being stupid.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
I mean, yeah, it's a gene commercial. Although yeah, you
have to admit the like how the liberals reacting was
quite funny, pretty much absolutely hilarious. Anyways, we're going to
be wrapping this here thing up and go on our
YouTube page if you want to listen to any of
the trombone chore pieces that showed up. We'll be back

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
