Speaker 2 (00:38):
It got kind of pretty on your end.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Oh it did well. I'm always pretty on my end.
I don't know about you.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
My end is not pretty.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
We're happy to have you. Thank you all for being here. Okay,
welcome to the season one wrap up.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Welcome, wrap up.

Sit down, shut up, and welcome to the season one
wrap up for the Vampire or we're gonna be sorry.
I'm trying to up the make sure that it's really exciting.
We are here to talk about season one in retrospect.

(01:13):
We're gonna talk about the highs. We're gonna talk about
the lows. We're gonna talk about the craziest stuff, and
we're also gonna hear from you. That's right. We're gonna
be reading some listener emails about season woes.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
YouTuber who's like talking for the Algorithm.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Be sure to smash that like button and subscribe to
our channel for updates on every episode. We I have
a beef with him because he retired. Yeah, because Matt
Pat retired. That's why. Because that one viral video of me.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
All the comments are like, I thought this was a
video of Matt Pat somebody.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
You know recently when Matt Pat retired. I like have
seen some game theory videos in the past, but I'm like,
you know, certainly not like a Matt Patter or whatever
his fans are called. But I watched his retirement Yeah.
I watched his retirement video and genuinely cried. I was like, oh,
matte pack for him.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
I don't didn't know he retired. I don't even know
what game theory is. Is it conspiracy theories about video games?

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Basically? Yeah, he would be like, well, he like talked
about like fucking five Nights at Freddy's for like three
years straight.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Until they made it into a movie.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Well like even after that, well, I mean there's like
so much more when it comes to frin Freddy's.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Don't even know.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
I only know that's from Smash. That's how I know, Okay.
And then I also found out about Matt Pat retiring
because Anthony from Smash interviewed him. Oh yeah, well, I
mean that's just that's my cultural touchstone.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
Anyway.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Thanks, thanks for that's a game, Garry, Thanks for being here.
Matt Pat love you so much. Thanks for coming out
of retirement to come on our podcast.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Of course, I'm a big fan. I've literally never heard
him talk. Big fan of the podcast.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Of course. Oh what the hell you know that?

Speaker 3 (03:21):
You know what I'm saying is freak kiss Ross, Chris Ross.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
That's what it was. Oh my god.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Okay, okay, okay. Remember that vacation I went on last
year and we talked like the Chosen the entire time, right,
the other half of the time we weren't talking like
the Chosen. We were just saying that over and over
and over for like four D.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Street, FROs in the penis, in the penis, why the friend?

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Oh my god, stop.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
How's your energy now, sister?

Speaker 3 (04:14):
It's better?

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Okay, good. So for any new listeners to the podcast,
this is something we do every time we finish this season,
just to you know, kind of memorialize it and make
it a make it a special moment before we move
on to the next one. We always do superlatives where
Lena and I will say our personal best episode, our

(04:35):
personal worst episode, et cetera, et cetera. We're adding in
some mostener emails this time. And then also something we
did with Glee was my brother Alex had never seen
Glee before and he would come on at the end
of every season and guess what was going to happen
in the next season. Unfortunately, Alex has seen Buffy, but
we are continuing the bit because a lot of people

(04:57):
really liked it. We are having my sister Air and
on who has not seen Buffy. That is a conversation
that Lena and I recorded with Aaron like weeks ago
at this point, so that will be in the middle
of it. Was just scheduling. It was just like a
scheduling thing. It was like trying to work out our schedules.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
To get three adults onto especially yeah kids. Yeah, these
two fuckers were drilling.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
About ourselves about our jobs. Anyway, that'll be in the
center of this as well. And then also just some
quick schedules before we get into it. Obviously, this is
the season one wrap up. We for our own sense
of self, are going to take a two week hiatus

(05:54):
after this in between our two seasons, and then the
fine a week of August, which will be August twenty seventh.
That Wednesday is two days before our podcast's fifth birthday,
which is April April August twenty ninth. So we are

(06:15):
going to start Buffy the first Wednesday of September on
September third, and we are going to take that last
week of August and do a special podcast birthday spectacle.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
So we are going to watch do a little watch
long episode of the hurt Locker Part one and part two.
And something extra special is we are going to the
Monday before tell me that date, will you?

Speaker 2 (06:41):
I think it's the twenty fifth, the fifth, August twenty fifth,
probably sign Yeah, we'll we'll let you know the time.
When it gets.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Closer, we'll let you know the time. But Monday, Monday
afternoon evening, we will get together and you can watch
us livestream that if you are a patriot a patron
of a Best Friend podcast and you can watch along
with us. And then also like we'll read your comments
and we'll have some fun and also we're probably gonna

(07:12):
maybe make it a drinking game.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Yeah, just have fun.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Releicults here, but yeah, stay tuned. But more information about
that will come will come out. We'll post about that
on Socials, But yeah, keep an eye out and then
two days later you can listen and then watch along.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
It'll be like director's commentary, except we didn't direct the episode.
We had nothing to do with the making.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
But I mean, like, you know, it feels tailor made
for us, so I feel like it had something to
do with us.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
So yeah, So if you want to be a part
of that, you totally can be. We would love that.
You can become a patron at patreon dot com slash
recovering gleek. Yeah, and then there's also a lot of
other fun stuff you can do if you're a patron.
But if you want to just join for that, that's
sick too.

Speaker 6 (07:52):
We would love to have yea anyway, soa heck yeah,
celebrating our podcast at birthday on our Glee roots en
of our guest starting Buffy season two beginning of September
and right now capping off Buffy season one.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
So the structure is, we're gonna read some emails, and
then we're gonna hear from Aaron, and then we're gonna
read some more emails, and then you're gonna hear her superlatives,
and then we're gonna sign her yearbooks, and we're gonna
be on the way, and no one's gonna write Hags
and anyone's year book. No one's gonna write have a
nice summer.

Speaker 7 (08:21):
It's a kiss of death.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Okay, we're gonna all write nice things to each other.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Okay, Yeah, First and foremost, how did you feel about Buffy?

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Oh, thank you so much for asking me. I owe
this season so much and I hate to mild mild,
mild spoilers, but this tonally is so different than the
rest of the series in a way that like to
watch this as an adult and like to take notes
and to sit with it. It is like so lovely

(08:51):
and beautiful, and I just think I just appreciate the
tones so much more than I ever did. Like it
is just like silly and these I just want to
protect them so bad. I want to put them in
a little box and keep them safe forever. They'll They're
my little bubble children for the rest of their lives. Like,
I just love that. I love it so much. I

(09:12):
love this vibe. I think it is so exciting. I
think it's such a beautiful way to like meet these characters.
And while it's totally different than the rest of the show.
I still think it like fits in the world in
ways that like Glee didn't do as well when they
like switch tones, Like characters maybe didn't fit as well
in certain tones in different seasons, if that makes sense.

(09:33):
On Glee, I feel like that's not that's not a
thing on Buffy, Like, these characters fit so well in
every tone that the show takes on, so that's a
compliment to it. But anyway, so just watching it, I
just was so surprised at how much I loved it,
and even the episodes that I was like I felt
middling about in just my casual watches, like, like they

(09:54):
have so much depth to them that I wasn't giving
them credit for. So, Yeah, this is the best fucking
television show I've ever seen in my life. I loved it.
How did you feel?

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Yeah? I agree, I loved it. I think my opinion
on season one has changed drastically because of a few factors.
One of the factors is I think TV nowadays is
so long form and so overarching storyline, whereas, like back

(10:30):
in you know, twenty twelve, twenty thirteen, when I was
watching Buffy, there were a lot of shows that were
just episodic that it would be here's this week's episode,
and it's never gonna be referenced again. So I was
really really anxious for when Buffy went long form because
that was something I knew about Buffy is that it
was revolutionary, Beau. It was one of the first team
shows to have long form storytelling and that people really

(10:52):
talked about, like the long arcs and how exciting that was,
and so the entirety of season one and then like
any Monster of the Week episode throughout the show, oh,
I would just get impatient with oh okay, just like,
let's get to some plot furthering. Yeah, exactly. And now
I really love the Months of the Week episodes, and
I'm a little bit like I love Buffy and I'm

(11:13):
excited to get to the long form storytelling. But also
if the whole show had just been months for the week,
I think I still would like it.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Yeah, I still love it.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
And I think also part of that is as a teenager,
I was binging Buffy. I was watching.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Hundred Yeah, I was watching to see the arcs. When
you're sitting there watching twelve episodes a day, m hm.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
And then when I'm trying to like watch it as
fast as possible. When there's an episode that I feel
like it doesn't for the plot, I'm frustrated because I'm like,
I want to know what's gonna happen next. Yeah, Whereas
now when we're just watching an episode a week, it's
lovely to have this cute, little charming, self contained story
that's very nice and fun and I like it.

Speaker 1 (11:53):
I like that too. I get that.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
Yeah, it's just like a little taste.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
I totally get that, because I mean, I don't know
that I've literally ever in my life I've watched just
like one episode at a time. Like even now, when
I sit down to watch like the season that I'm
watching right now in like my personal watch, I'm watching
three episodes.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
At a time, and what season is it.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
I'm watching season three?

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Heck, yeah, I give you yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
Or I'm like, you know, I'm like doing my dishes,
I'm like doing the laundry, and I'm watching three episodes
at a time. I Don'm loving it, you know what
I mean. But I mean, just like, you know, there
is something where it's like if there's a break in
the I'm watching three episodes, two of them have something
to do with each other. But one of them is
its own thing. It's probably like more, you know, it's

(12:39):
more frustrating to watch. So I get where you're coming
from in that sense, if that's what you mean.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
And I think also in the franchise affocation of Hollywood,
of like the last fifteen years, where every movie is
trying to set up some larger franchise, I now have
such a er appreciation for a self contained story, and
I'm like, I actually love that this episode had a
beginning and an end and it was clear cut, and

(13:06):
we weren't setting up the next big thing, which it's nice,
nice and then and we've talked about this a lot,
so this is not any fresh take that I have
not already said. But I have really come to love
and appreciate the intentional campiness of the first season, and

(13:28):
the b horror movie vibes and the bad costumes and
the silly monsters. I think all of that. Aaron says
something in our conversation with her where she says it
feels like watching the Twilight Zone, and ever since she
told me that, I'm like, that's exactly why I like
it so much. It feels like the Twilight Zone is
just like they are in the same way that the

(13:51):
Toilet Zone does. They are communicating like pretty profound ideas
that there's a lot to be said about, but they
are doing it in a very silly and schlocky way.
And those two things that happening in the same space
is exciting to me, and I like it.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
I love that. I agree golsh season one, I think
people just don't give it enough credit. And I feel
like I've said that probably like every single episode, probably
twelve times, maybe twice each time, but people genuinely don't
give it enough credit. And I think, you know, it's
just so lovely. It's so lovely, and I just those
are my babies. I love. I love these kids in

(14:28):
season one. Oh my god, I am excited to hear
about uh here from our listeners. We've got a bunch
of emails for you, so buckle up. Okay, let's kick
things off.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
With Emma, Dear Lena, and Ian. I am so excited
to have stuff to email you about. I never had
any new thoughts about Glee, as I had watched it
many times over before the podcast, but this is my
first time watching Buffy, and I doubt it will be
my last I'm not a big TV show enjoyer currently,
so I didn't really want to start Buffy, but did
for the sake of the pod. I watched the first

(15:00):
few episodes and didn't care much, but then got COVID
and watched up through most of season two over three days.
I love that I'm hooked, but trying to pace myself
now so I don't get too ahead of the podcast.
Here's some scattered thoughts I have had through the latter
half of season one. When Willow goes into the Basement
of Nightmares, I was afraid her nightmare might be a

(15:21):
Buffy slash Xander makeout a Lah Deathly Hollis Part one.
Thank god it wasn't. For some reason, I just cannot
get past the Angel and Buffy age gap. Everyone in
the show is way too chill about it. Giles should
have more qualms about Buffy falling in love with a
vampire the fuck. Also, some actors can pass for teens
in their twenties. David Boyanis is not one of them.

(15:43):
I clocked him as at least twenty six before looking
up his age. I think that's why I'm not as
upset with the romance when watching Twilight. Robert Pattison was
twenty twenty one while filming versus Buffy. Out of Mind,
Out of Sight is such a love letter to girlhood,
and that's why I think people may like it.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
Oh my god, Okay, sorry, I had to give my snaps.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
I loved that they can't relate to the central emotional
story and the monster of the week is just a
girl who turned invisible solely because she was universally ignored
and happened to be on a hell mouth. No demons,
spells or anything. I loved the episode and think it
gave us a great look into Buffy's past and insecurity
slash vulnerabilities, which tees up her arc and prophecy girl

(16:25):
so well. Similar to Cordelia and out of Sight, Out
of Mind, she grieves her past, and a prophecy girl,
she grieves her future.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Also timeline question if Buffy is a sophomore, then was
she crowned may queen at her old high school as
a freshman. I get it, she's cool and would have
had my vote, but that seems like a stretch. It's
giving Quinn being Cheerio captain as a freshman. When Jenny
said the end is pretty seriously nigh. I had to pause,

(17:00):
rewind and make sure I heard her right. That started
a list of Buffy quotes that I keep in my phone.
I'm so obsessidiaty. Calendar is not even funny. I love
how much you guys are referenced that quote in the
pot episode. I also really enjoyed Giles referring to the
bookshelves in the library as the stacks, like they're in
the stacks gives me every time, I don't know why.
Thank you Bill so much for putting me on such

(17:21):
an incredible show that makes me feel cooler than everyone
around me. I'm so excited if your thoughts on season two.
Much love, Emma, Emma, we are so excited for this.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
Email makes me dance. Oh my god, Ah, I love
all these thoughts, Oh my god, especially about like you
know you heard me scream out of sight O doun't
mind being a like a love letter to a girlhood
and how like the horrors of being a young woman is.
Oh my god, you've really said something with that. I
love that.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
I very much appreciate because this is like my favorite
thing to do on the podcast is find the dumbest
most nitpicky detail and be like, so what does actually imply?
And I did not at all catch You're so right,
Buffy's a sophomore, so she would have been made queen
as a freshman And what the fuck is that about?
Maybe it's like prom court where you would have like

(18:11):
your freshman prince and princess, your sophomore prince and princess.
Did your school do that? And by prod I met
Homecoming court? No?

Speaker 1 (18:21):
But I do know what you mean, Like it's not
a stretch to imagine that, Like.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
Yes, we had King and Queen who were seniors, and
then the other grades would have like prince and princess
or something. Yea, so maybe there's like a may queen
for every year.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
My school, it was like it was like Homecoming was
for seniors, Prom was for juniors. Oh, like the court
would have oh yeah, like Winter Preference was four sophomores.
Like everyone kind of got their own courts.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Yeah, being for juniors is so bizarre to me because
I feel like every year prom, well I do hear
junior prom, but then you also hear a senior prom.
I feel like every year, Oh.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
I know, I couldn't tell you. I also yeah, I
mean this was this is like more than ten years ago,
so I'm not I you know, what's my memory and
what's shit that I made up from watching movies.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
But Emma, I appreciate. I appreciate the observation. I appreciate
the email.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
You're asking the right questions, Emma. Up next, we've got
a message from Jasmine.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
Dear Lena and Ian. It's Jasmine. They them from New Jersey.
I loved the last episode and I'm so excited for
season two. What you had to say about Xander flaunting
vampire curses in Angel's face is both hilarious and thought provoking. Well,
it's clear Xander hates Angel for getting Buffy boo. He

(19:44):
also hates Angel for having supernatural powers. Between the current Scoobies,
Xander is the least supernaturally inclined and the least capable.
At least Willo can hack into government databases and Cordy
can whip out some harsh Burns. The first time I
watched Prophecy Girl, I was annoyed because it seemed like
Xander was the main reason Buffy could save the day.

(20:06):
After all, Angel couldn't do CPR because of his vampire
power slash curse of not breathing. Since that first watch,
I've come to appreciate the choice, if not for my
own tastes, at least for the show's overall thesis. Angel's
supernatural side might be flashy and attractive, but the show
seems to argue that Xander's humanity is more valuable. Barring

(20:29):
weeden self insert fantasies, Xander's flaws and lack of powers
are often foils to the lack of humanity around him.
While I often get annoyed. While I often get extremely
annoyed with Xander, moments like Xander's CPR remind me that
it's okay and even essential to maintain that human thread,
especially in Buffy's world. Buffy's circumstances push her to be inhuman.

(20:53):
Even in this episode, we see her at first extremely
vulnerable and not wanting to die to overcome this in
order to protect her friends. So I found on rewatches
that if I can filter all of Xander's worst moments
through the lens of humanity, even with all the flaws
is necessary, I can grit my teeth and start to

(21:13):
like the guy. I'd love to know your thoughts on this.
Would you flaunt your humanity in Angel's face? And do
you think Buffy feels as if the scoobies flaunt their
humanity in her face? After all, they can worry about
going to a dance while she has to save the
world all the best, Jasmine, ps. Have you seen David
Borrianis's instagram bio I quote it every single day, Jasmine.

(21:36):
I had not until I got this email. I'll read
it all to you. David Boorrianas's Instagram bio is. I'd
rather be in the jungle with no map than to
have a map with no jungle joy prayer hands emoji,
ego emoji.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
That guy is so so silly.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
My thoughts on this email is that you get it. Yeah,
is that you get it?

Speaker 1 (21:57):
No, you really get it.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
You know, Xander's controversial, and I think it's one hundred
percent warranted that he is controversial. The reason that I
bat so hard for Xander is exactly what you spell
out in this email. My favorite thing about Xander is
that he there's nothing special about him. That he is

(22:21):
the most average dude. He is, like we're told, average looks,
he is average intellect. He comes from a family that
he clearly like you get hints does not have a
very good home life. His parents do not. He's also
like from a low income family and one that is

(22:42):
a cause of a lot of insecurity for him. But
then also there are many moments in the TV show,
like the CPR moment where because Xander is so unexceptional,
he that humanity that he has, Like you say, Jasmine
is the only thing that can say the day. And
I love that message, although it sucks that like it's

(23:04):
told through a guy who also can be like so
skeevy and entitled, But I love that message when we're
watching this TV show about this character that has superpowers,
whereas I don't have superpower, sitting on my couch watching
where it's saying like, but also, your humanity can be
a superpower, Like everyone has their own superpower and even
if you feel like you don't have one, that in

(23:26):
and of itself is a power. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
Okay, I like realize I think I have similar feelings
to Xander that I had about Finn because I feel
very similarly about Fin and how Finn feels like he's
the unexceptional one in that group. Yeah, and I feel
like a lot of Finn's toxic traits come from that

(23:52):
place of insecurity and just like being a scared kid
who's afraid that his life is not going to amount
to anything. And I feel like Xander fills a similar
role of you know, he's just very afraid that he
is a loser and that everyone's gonna find out that
he's a loser, like the jiggle be up and everyone

(24:13):
will realize that he's actually a massive loser. And he's
constantly trying to compensate for the fact that he is
a loser.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
Right, Hey, would you would you flaunt your humanity in
Angel's face?

Speaker 2 (24:31):
I don't think so, but I do think it's funny
when Xander doesn't.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
Yeah, I probably would you would? Oh yeah, are you kidding? Y?
That's half the fun.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
Now.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
Do I think that Buffy feels like the Scoobies flaunt
their humanity in her face?

Speaker 7 (24:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (24:50):
Yeah, But I mean I doubt at this point, I
don't think that they are cognizant of that at all.
I think they have like zero unders standing of what
it means to be the Slayer like at all. So
I don't think they're even thinking about that, about flaunting
it like that. But even like you know, they'll have
so many moments that they like can go do X

(25:12):
y Z, they can hang out at the Bronze, and
Buffy can't do that.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
I also love having those two perspectives of this guy
who is just a normal guy who is on some
level jealous of the fact that his friend gets to
have superpowers and he doesn't. Oh yeah, and said friend
has superpowers and would do anything to be just a
normal girl.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
I think we should keep that. I'm gonna say I'm
gonna keep thinking about that too, like I'm gonna you're
asking questions, Jasmine, thank you for your email. Pray hands
emoji eqal emoji of next. We've got a message.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
From hand Hilin and Ian. I'm wanting to send you
guys an email ever since you announced you were covering
Buffy next, because I actually started watching Buffy at the
start of this year, just a couple months before you
announced it, and I couldn't have been more excited to
hear you talk about it, and y'all certainly didn't disappoint.
Buffy's one of those shows that's been on my Radar
slash to watch list for years. What finally made me

(26:13):
decide to watch it was actually watching the film. I
saw The TV Glow last year because, as you may
or may not know, the made up TV show in
that film is heavily inspired by Buffy totally. I saw
the TV Glow is very different to Buffy, but I
loved it and it rewrote my brain chemistry, and I
wondered if you guys have watched it, because if you haven't,

(26:34):
you should, and I'd love to hear your thoughts if
you have. Really quickly, Han, I'm gonna button here and say.
Fun fact about that movie is there's also a cameo
from a Buffy alum in that movie, Amber Benson, who
we have not met yet, but she does appear on
Buffy is and I saw The TV Glow specifically because
they wanted to pay homage to Buffy. Back into the

(26:55):
email anyway, when you announced you were going to be
talking about Buffy, it felt kind of meant to be.
And well, lom a couple seasons ahead, just at the
beginning of season four. Right now, I'm watching with my
fiance who struggles with long form TV shows that we're
taking it slow. I have really loved rewatching season one
with you guys, especially because My opinions on the characters
have changed a lot in the course of watching the show.

(27:18):
For example, for the first two seasons and to be honest,
season one especially, I found Xander very annoying and kind
of almost performatively hated him. But somewhere in season three
my perspective on him flipped entirely, and now he might be,
dare I say it, one of my favorite characters. Rewatching
season one with this new perspective has been interesting, as

(27:41):
now I appreciate him way more as a character, while
also still finding him annoying slush grating, slush problematic when
he's supposed to be in the narrative. I also appreciate
having both of your perspectives on him and Lena. Honestly,
I think you should threaten to kill him more for
what happens with the pack. Also, even though I may
be sort of I love him ragging on Zanda. Also,

(28:02):
even though I maybe sort of kind of love him,
ragging on Xander is my favorite hobby. You'll be hearing
more of my thoughts on Xander as you go on,
especially when you get towards late season three, because I
have thoughts. My other favorite character is Cordelia and I
love Cordelia from the start. That first scene with her
and Buffy where Cordy is quizzing her about cool girl
stuff and wanting to be her friend so compelling to me.

(28:23):
On both sides. I can't remember which one of you
said that Cordelia is who Buffy was Slash, wants to
be and can't be because she's the Slayer but a
so true and b I also think that the last
two episodes of season one demonstrate that there are ways
in which Cordelia envies Buffy's life as well, because Buffy
has real friends who like her for exactly who she is,

(28:45):
while Cordelia, although she's the most popular girl in school
self admittedly feels lonely and doesn't even know if her
friends like her. And I think Buffy rejecting her friendship
in the first episode in favor of Willow and Xander
is a big part of that. I also think she
has an excellent Foil Sash counterpart to Buffy, Willow and
Xander in different ways that I am excited to get

(29:06):
more into in season two. I am so excited to
rewatch season two along with you, guys and hear your
thoughts on it, especially now that the Scooby Gang is
more fully formed. Also enjoyed Season one even more this
time around. I love all these characters so much. Consential
forehead cases if you accept hand they them UK.

Speaker 5 (29:25):
International listeners, Kay, I love all.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
These vals, y'all, and I love to hear the Xander apologists.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
I'd like, Yeah, I really appreciate what you have to say.
Hand where it's like you appreciate that this is a
person who is fun to rag on, but also you
can appreciate the nuance there too. I think that that's
where I'm trying to get.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Xander is like not even in my top five Buffy characters,
Like I don't particularly like him. I just like you
bring up in this email hand with the Cordelia and
Buffy nuance, I feel like all of these characters are
so compelling and the ways that they each interact with
each other are so unique. Like Cordelia is gonna interact

(30:15):
with Buffy in a way differently than she interact with
Will differently, and then she interact with Xander, and I
just find it. I feel like people are missing a
piece of the buffet when they are so quickly to
write off Xander as a character. Yeah, when I feel like,
although he is grating and has these annoying attributes, there
is such nuance and the show is saying such interesting
things through that character that we are missing if we

(30:38):
just write him off.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
But he still is annoying, so we'll keep saying it.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
Yeah, And I certainly like like Buffy and Cordelia and
Willow better as characters. I love that.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
I think this is all good. This is all really
good stuff. I love nuance. Okay, Also I have to say, okay,
I love I saw the TV glow. I saw it
just recent. Oh yes, yes, I'm so glad you brought
this up. I don't think we've talked about this at all.

Speaker 5 (31:07):
We have.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
I'm so glad you brought this up. I watched it
for the first time a couple of months, maybe a
month before we officially started the podcast. It was the
first time I had ever seen it.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
What because I watched it for the first time in
like February March, so like the same time you did.
What was going on there?

Speaker 1 (31:25):
Really?

Speaker 2 (31:27):
Yeah, we were psychically connected. We decided a lott Oh
my god.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
We're kind of like we're like the pink Opek, you.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
And me you were like the pink O Pek of course,
of course, but then also we would meet in the
dream Realm at that summer camp we went too every
year as well.

Speaker 5 (31:39):
Well.

Speaker 1 (31:39):
Of course, No, you guys, I loved that movie and
I didn't know anything about it before I had watched it.
I knew it was an allegory four for Transnis and
that's what I knew, but I didn't know any of
the Buffy things. But so I was literally I was
fucking in I seriously, I was like, and I think
I texted you, Anne, I was like, is this based
off of Buffy? The vampires there?

Speaker 2 (31:59):
And you told me the taste.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
Yes, I love that movie. I really I that movie
was so damn beautiful.

Speaker 7 (32:08):
And I know that. I mean, and I feel.

Speaker 1 (32:11):
This way about my Buffy experience, where I feel like
so much of my queer identity personally is tied to
my love of Buffy. So I felt, really, you know,
seen in a lot of ways by that movie. And
I can see so many aspects of this TV show
that lend themselves to people finding themselves in that way.

(32:34):
So and it's you know, oh my god, you guys,
I definitely recommend it's so beautiful.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
Yeah, I'm glad that you brought that up specifically the
like queerness and Buffy aspect, because that is important. The
reason that they the Pinkle Pike is inspired by Buffy
is yes, like the writer loved Buffy growing up, but
specifically they felt like that show helped them find their

(33:00):
quer identity exactly, and that it is a show that
has helped so many people find their queer identity. It's
also like one of the thesis statements of this podcast.
We're doing literally, I have been bouncing around. I'm not
doing a Buffy rewatch outside of the podcast obviously, yeah,
but I'm not doing like a rewatch from going episode

(33:20):
by episode. I just am bouncing around picking random episodes
that I'm like, oh, I remember liking this one, or like,
I barely remember this one. And it's so interesting to
me how many times Buffy will have a plotline that
is clearly an allegory for being queer. Yeah. Yeah, and

(33:41):
like Buffy also, we mentioned this in the first episode,
so this is not a spoiler. It also has like
canonical queer events. It had the first lesbian kiss on TV. Like,
it also has like canonical queer characters. But then there
are so many times when like the teen issue that
it's talking about is specifically coming out, or specifically like

(34:03):
people telling you that who you are is bad and evil.
It's beyond the actual queer representation in the show. It
is just baked into the DNA of everything. This TV
show is great show, great show, great film both.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
I saw the TV great, great soundtrack. Hy I definitely
recommend Oh when when Carolyn Polcheko goes come.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
Home, the cat us whistling.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
You guys, seriously give it a listen, Give a listen,
watch the.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
Movie Should we do? Should we do? One more email?
And then we'll cut to our Erran conversation.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
I think so. I think let's hear from Emily.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
Hello, Ian and Lena and Prophecy Girl. When Angel and
Xander find Buffy dead, Angel tells Xander he has to
do CPR since Angel doesn't have any breath. While I
understand vampires don't breathe, and we can dismiss the fact
that he can talk to demon magic, this becomes a
genuine plot hole if paying attention. During the rest of

(35:10):
the series, example, the actors who play vampires are always
panting while fighting, and the most damning is in a
future episode when a vampire sucks the smoke out of
a woman's throat and blows it out. My head canon
to fix this plot hole is that Angel is just

(35:32):
remember My head canon to fix this plot hole is
that Angel is just embarrassed that he doesn't know how
to do CPR, so he tells Sander that he can't
do it instead of that he doesn't know how. Thanks
and four head kisses to those who consent. Emily, I
love us stick we heard.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
He's just too proud. He's too proud to admit it.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
Yes, I love that he doesn't know where the tournam is.
He doesn't know where he's supposed to push, so he's like,
I can't do CEPR. I'm so sorry.

Speaker 1 (36:04):
He can't sing, stand alive, he can't keep rhythm to
save his life.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
Yeah, that's the thing. He actually has no inherent.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
I don't know. That's so stupid.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
Oh my goodness. No, I love that.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
I love that too. I think that's great.

Speaker 2 (36:23):
Yeah, and it's very true. It is something we've gotten
emails before about people specifically talking about the vampire breath,
and it is something I have now started paying attention
before when I watched Buffy Birst shows like who do
you think? Who do you think You're full on?

Speaker 1 (36:37):
Who do you think you're full on?

Speaker 2 (36:39):
Like you are panting, you are gasping for breath. I
love that. Well, thank you all for your emails. We're
going to read some more emails, but first we're going
to take a break and then cut to Aaron's predictions
for season two above the Vampire Slayer. What dude, great?

Speaker 5 (37:06):
Are we clapping? Like I should have established that before.
We're not clapping on three. We're clapping right.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
After after one, two, three? Class?

Speaker 5 (37:15):
Okay, Then I did it. Then I did it?

Speaker 3 (37:17):
Yeah, Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1 (37:21):
Hi everyone, Welcome to this part of the episode. We
are joined by special special special guests of the podcast
Eerin Hi.

Speaker 5 (37:33):
Hi. I started waving, and then I was like, I
guess this is a podcast.

Speaker 1 (37:37):
There will be people watching it, so misplaced.

Speaker 5 (37:41):
So that waves for the people watching.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
A special way for the people watching.

Speaker 2 (37:47):
Of course. So Aaron is my sister be long time
listeners of the podcast will know. Back during Glee would
have my brother Alex on after every season and he
would tell us what he thought would happened in the
next season. And because he had never seen Glee before,
and a lot of listeners really liked that, found it
very entertaining. But Alex has seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer

(38:10):
because when I was in college, I made him watch it.
But you know who hasn't seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer
my sister ern And a few weeks ago, she sent
me a Marco Polo unprompted, telling me because I was
watching Buffy. I think like maybe you were home for
the summer or something, and I was watching Buffy a

(38:32):
lot that summer and you were just very disinterested in
engaging with it. So when I got that Marco Polo,
I felt like a personal victory for me because.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
The screenshot of it and I was and he was like,
we won, we won.

Speaker 5 (38:51):
Which this is because I didn't realize this about myself
until I listened to Castrada. I would listen to the
Glee Your Guys Glee podcast, but I still couldn't quite
get myself to watch Glee. I would just do your podcast,

(39:14):
but you know, I like listening to them. But you
had said something like early on about me and how
I am slightly drewn by Spie and that how like,
oh they because everybody else started watching Glee. Then Aaron
didn't like it anymore, and I was like, what the heck?
And then after that I started noticing. I was like, oh,

(39:35):
I do kind of do that?

Speaker 1 (39:37):
So I.

Speaker 5 (39:39):
Was kind of I don't know because I don't. Yeah,
so you you were like senior in high school and
I was in college. But yes, I was around occasionally
while you were watching Buffy, but I never, or at

(40:00):
least have no memory of sitting down and actually watching
it with you. It was more like i'd be in
the kitchen and you'd be watching it. Basically, the idea
I had of what the show is when you're watching
it during that time period is was so wrong. Now
that I'm watching it, I'm like, oh, never mind, because

(40:21):
literally I remember, like when you were watching it, I
was like, Ian likes this show. Do I even know
him that he would watch this? But now I'm like,
oh no, this is a total Ian show.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
What did you think it was? What kind of I
thought it.

Speaker 5 (40:37):
Was like mega like drama serious I thought it was.
And don't get me wrong, I watched Vampire Diaries. I
did get sick of it and I didn't finish it,
but I can see the appeal. So to the serious
drama shows, but I thought it was that level, Like
I thought it was like angsty, yeah, just like drama constant.

(41:02):
And I was like that's why. I was like, why
does Ian like this show? Because that's so not you.
I remember being like, can we please watch something else?
Anytime I was in the room when you were watching it.
I specifically who has not one We can get into
this later because I have comments about that, But the
one character that I remember is a guy. And I

(41:31):
don't know if I was saying this to Alex the
other day because he was texting me about Buffy and
I was like, he was like, do you know anything
about the show besides what I've seen? And I was like,
I don't. Like maybe weird snippets, but it's stuff that
like I don't know if I read it correctly or not.
Kind of thing like because one of the things that
I remember is there's a character who has like spiky hair,

(41:57):
and I'm like, it is his name Spike or do
I just does he just have spiky hair or does
he not even have spiky hair? I don't know, but
there's like I he has very intense features. There was
some episode with him and I don't know, maybe he's

(42:19):
a great character, and I again was reading it wrong,
but I was like, I hate this dude whenever that
episode was okay. I don't know, but maybe it was
reading it wrong because, like I said, I thought this
show was like super serious, and now I'm watching it,
I'm like, this whole thing is just like a freaking joke.
But like like, yeah, you know what I'm saying, Like

(42:41):
they're in on a joke, they're having fun kind of thing. Yeah,
they're not. They're not taking themselves serious, and so it's
it's enjoyable anyway. So I totally read it wrong, and
I thought I had read you wrong as a person
because I know this is not a show that I
would Ian would be so into because you really were

(43:02):
so into it. I remember because I think I get
my contrary spite ness from Mom because I do remember
her and I both being like, Ian, have mercy on
us when you're Buffy. But now I've changed my tune,
So congratulations, Okay, welcome back Smalls.

Speaker 2 (43:25):
Okay, yes, sorry about that.

Speaker 5 (43:26):
Also, for all the listeners that don't know, Ian is
basically six feet six inches tall, and our whole family
calls them smalls.

Speaker 1 (43:35):
Have I ever told y'all that I don't call Ian smalls?
But I refer to Ian as small as in my
head a lot.

Speaker 2 (43:43):
I did not know that at all.

Speaker 1 (43:45):
I know, I mean, it's not like my nickname for you,
so ione like gonna like co off this nickname, but
I've heard it so like, but you're like almost exclusively
calls you that. And I've spent a lot of time
with like all of you, you know, so I think
I like now calling you also why you had into that?
Is that so funny?

Speaker 2 (44:02):
So Aaron, now that you have seen season one, what
are your thoughts on season one? What did you like
the best? What character stood out to you? What was
the experience like?

Speaker 5 (44:13):
I loved it? I yes, number one. I was very
surprised by just how fun it is. And then it's
very much in on the joke kind of thing, and
any time that it's getting slightly too serious, somebody says
something that like brings it back to earth. And then again,

(44:37):
I don't know if this continues throughout the whole show,
but I have thoroughly enjoyed the Monster of the Week
set up, Like that is so fun to me. It
feels like, well, and Ian you know this, Like I Ian
and I don't remember when this was in our lives,

(44:59):
but we watched I think basically every single episode of
The Twilight Zone. Oh.

Speaker 1 (45:06):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (45:07):
I was around the time when we were like in
middle school, Like it was a weird age for us
to get really into the Twilight Z, totally into it.

Speaker 1 (45:16):
Like if I met like thirteen year olds who are
really obsessed with the Twilight Zone, I'd be like.

Speaker 5 (45:21):
Like, are you okay? And we were having a good time.
But anyways, it reminds me of that, just like every
episode is just like this weird Yeah, it just totally
Twilight Zone, weird else scenario that these people find themselves
in and very creative.

Speaker 2 (45:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (45:43):
I just I thought it was great. I had a
great time. And it's and to hear you guys say
and I told you this the and the other day
I met these people that Logan one of Logan's coworkers,
and they love Buffy.

Speaker 2 (45:58):
Logan is her husband.

Speaker 8 (46:00):
Oh yeah, sorry, yeah, information background information. So I started
to talking to them about Buffy and they're like, oh, like,
how far are you into And I was like, oh,
I'm just in season one And they're like you're.

Speaker 5 (46:14):
In season one and you like, like, if you love
season one, they were like all excited about the fact
because they're like, it gets so much better. Yeah, Like
kay Ian is saying that, and Leana on their podcast
and like, and then these other people that I met
randomly are also saying, like, this is the worst season

(46:35):
of the show, but I'm loving it, so I'm not excited.

Speaker 2 (46:39):
Do you have like a favorite character that stuck out
to you? Do you have like a favorite monster that
popped up?

Speaker 5 (46:44):
Oh, my favorite character is Giles.

Speaker 1 (46:47):
I good choice.

Speaker 5 (46:50):
I have a weird professor thing.

Speaker 1 (46:54):
I don't think that's right at all. I don't think
that's at all.

Speaker 5 (46:56):
I think did you know that? I know, well, straight up,
when Logan and I got married, he purposely like his
suit was to like look professor. Oh yeah, and he
looked good. He had like a tweet a gray tweed

(47:17):
suit with like a vest thing too, and he freaking
knitted his own tie very good. And yeah, I've always
had a weird professor thing. And Giles is like, I
love him. He's so freaking sweet. I love his dynamic
with the kids. It's such a fun. I'm gonna use

(47:39):
the same word again. Dynamic where it's like the kids,
these high school kids, and then you got this like
freaking I think it's Lena always says, how like this
frustrated British man. Yeah, just like having to deal with
like this sixteen year old girl. And but then but
he's not, but he's that is would be a weird

(48:03):
interaction to have for him. But then he also is
just so sweet. And my one of my favorite moments
is that moment. What episode is that the Owen kid Chambers,
the Chambers, Yeah, that moment between her and Giles where

(48:27):
he kind of like sympathizes with her of like, I
know this sucks, I'm really sorry. I love Giles, He's
the best.

Speaker 2 (48:34):
You have exquisite taste.

Speaker 1 (48:37):
Yeah, that's my favorite Giles moment too. I think that
is so special.

Speaker 5 (48:43):
Yeah, well I feel like it's his because Buffy's surrounded
by I mean, she has Xanders, she has Willow, but
like she's surrounded by these adults that don't know what's
going like her mom. Her mom is so sweet, but
her mom has no idea what's going on, and like
and this you know, poor lady, like single mom. I

(49:06):
can't imagine that'd be so hard and then on top
of that, like your child's like a fri vampire slayer. Anyways,
it's like to have Giles in Buffy's life, somebody who
is an adult, Like I do think it's important for
all kids to have at least some grown up in
their life that like they feel like, sees them and

(49:32):
gets them and like is there for them. And I
just love that aspect of the Giles character that he's
like he's not all like know it all authoritarian adult.
He's like a sweet, compassionate and he just love like

(49:54):
he loves her. You can tell that he loves her,
and he's like even that final in the finale when
he's like you know what, when she's like I quit,
and then he's like you know what, Yeah, Like I
get it, and I'm going to go do this because
this is a lot for you to take on as
a freaking sixteen year old girl. And instead of being
like all up in her face about like, well sucks,

(50:17):
you're the slayer and you should get over it and
you should be fine with this, he's so compassionate about
it and is so supportive of her. It's just I'm like,
that's so sweet. I love it. I love him, I
do have to say speaking of characters, though, also I

(50:37):
don't want this to be just me talking and so
get on in jumping to this is jumping to kind
of a new subject. But I'm like, this will be
something that we can track as the show goes on.
Because I still like Sander. I'm like, I don't know.

(51:03):
I mean, he's not my favorite character. This is the
Marco Polos that I send Ian after I watch episodes.
I'm like, I don't know. I still like Xander. I
still don't see why everybody hates him.

Speaker 2 (51:17):
I'm Marco Polo her back, and I say, you get it.
No one else. Everyone else thinks I'm stupid, but you
understand where I'm coming from. Leina. You are genuinely great
about it, and I think it's very good to have
someone who's not a Xander fan on the podcast and
someone who is, but like we can talk about it,
but like online people truly at Xander and will not

(51:40):
hear different.

Speaker 5 (51:41):
Yeah, yeah, I'm intrigued to see. I mean, I understand
that he isn't like amazing, He's no Giles. You know
what I'm saying, Ain't that the truth, ain't But he's
a he's a sixteen year old boy, yes, and he's

(52:03):
very fitting as a sixteen year old boy. So although
there's like, yeah, there's things that he does and says
that I'm like eye roll, like, oh my gosh, foot
in the mouth kind of thing, but I do feel
like so far, I feel like overall he is a
good person and I feel like he has good intentions

(52:25):
he like I mean, even that beginning, I can't remember
if that's the first or second, but when he it's
I think it's a second when he goes when he's like,
I have to go down there because Jesse, thank you.
I like, which that was kind of sweet to me
because I'm like, if one of my best friends had

(52:48):
been turned into a vampire, it would be hard like
to be like, oh yeah, I'll just kind of sit
by and just be sitting here like twiddling my thumbs
waiting to see what happens. But like that he's like,
I have to I have to do something. I can't
know the situation that my friend is in and just
let it go and just be like okay. I feel

(53:12):
like that was very revealing of who he is deep down.
But yes, he does have moments that he doesn't says
stuff that You're like, you still have a lot of
learning and growing to do. But I'm but my perspective
is like, that's fine, you're sixteen.

Speaker 2 (53:33):
Yeah, it's hard when he's up against Buffy, who is
like the most capable, mature, amazing person ever. Yeah, so
like in comparison, you're like, can't you be more like Buffy?
Like she is just fabulous.

Speaker 1 (53:47):
It's like, no, no one can be like Muffy. She
is cosmically the most personal life.

Speaker 5 (53:51):
Yes, because that's the thing is I'm like, yeah, I
guess if you're standing next to Buffy. But like, but
it's like, but you have to remember that Buffy's like
kid then even the freaking adults in her community. So
we'll see if I ever.

Speaker 2 (54:11):
Change stuff, I'll be interesting. The Like, the main criticism
with Xander that I really understand is the whole like
he is openly a representation of the showrunner, and the
show runner is a very problematic, toxic person who has
this like god complex and like nice guy complex, and

(54:36):
so therefore anytime Xander does something stupid and gets away
with it, it then is it just reminds you of
like the stuff the showrunner was doing behind the scenes
and getting away with and that's very icky. Yeah, so I.

Speaker 5 (54:49):
Think that's I can see that. The thing is like,
I don't really know any of that stuff.

Speaker 2 (54:57):
I know you're coming in.

Speaker 5 (55:00):
Yes, I am like, I am a I am a
yes ignorant baby with this show. So Hi not knowing
any of those things, I'm like, yeah, he's just like
a dude.

Speaker 1 (55:11):
But yeah, he's just a dude. Yeah, keep us updated.
It's definitely he's a He's a really divisive character too,
where people also, I think really feel like connected to Xander,
like he is like supposed to be in this show
that every man. So I know a lot of people
really care about Xander. So please keep us updated and
like you know you can feel however you feel, don't

(55:34):
let me or I'm excited to hear what you think.

Speaker 2 (55:42):
Approval.

Speaker 1 (55:42):
Baby, Is there anyone gives you ship he could turn
to me?

Speaker 2 (55:47):
Yeah? Is there a monster from season one that stood
out to you that was your favorite one?

Speaker 5 (55:54):
The teacher's pet, praying mantis Lady that was just so
uh weird, so unique. That's the one that I That's
the episode that when I watched it, I was like, oh,
this is fun. Before that you had vampires, which obviously,
with the name of the show, I expected there to
be vampires, and then you had the isn't it The

(56:17):
Witch is the next one? Yeah, yes, which is kind
of in the same vein, but that I still like,
you know, like I was still enjoying it. But then
when that one came along, I was like, Oh, so
this is like this show's gonna be weird, Like they're
gonna come up with like funky stuff, and that one
was really fun. I just felt like, yeah, like I said,

(56:39):
very unique creative idea behind like a monster situation and
again kind of reminded me of like Twilight Soon and
stuff and like old you know monster. What's that movie
called Creature? I was close, you were, But you have

(57:06):
The Lagoon, which I it was like the Halloween Store knockoff.

Speaker 2 (57:10):
See Blue Lagoon? Is that movie with the cousins who
get shipwrecked and then bang each other? Emmy, what what
with Brookshields?

Speaker 1 (57:22):
Like when she's a child? That one?

Speaker 2 (57:24):
Yeah, and brookshield is like fully like sixteen seventeen in
this movie, I think, And it's these cousins and they're
on a ship and it crashes and like them and
the chef survive and the chef dies and they live
there forever and then they fully have sex. Oh.

Speaker 1 (57:40):
I think she was like fourteen. I do not.

Speaker 2 (57:43):
Recognize that that's Blue Lagoon baby monster.

Speaker 1 (57:46):
I think like Brookshields talks a lot about.

Speaker 5 (57:49):
How I Yeah, anyways, okay, in somewhere in my brain,
I've probably heard of that since I said it.

Speaker 2 (57:56):
But you're correct, she's like fourteen in that movie.

Speaker 5 (57:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (57:59):
Oh, I mean I think it's like, no, I know,
and I think that she is like also naked in
that movie.

Speaker 2 (58:05):
If I'm not mister, I haven't nineteen eighty allowed.

Speaker 1 (58:10):
Yeah, disgusting.

Speaker 2 (58:13):
Yeah, that's really foul. Yeah, anyways, you liked there.

Speaker 5 (58:19):
I like the pregnant Yeah, how did that even come up? Anyways? Oh,
but I was saying that it was like kind of
like a it's not just your like run of the
mill monster. It was like somebody had to be creative
about that monster and what the ins and outs of
that monster would be.

Speaker 2 (58:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (58:41):
So I think that one was my favorite, just because
I feel like it kind of was the beginning of
just the rest of the weird Monsters of the Week
that they have, which I they were all super fun. Oh.
Also maybe unpopular opinion. I really liked the Pack, how okay,

(59:07):
in like a weird way because it doesn't I see
that it doesn't necessarily fit with the rest of the
show in a way. It's really dark. Oh yes, he
liked it because I just had no idea what was

(59:30):
going to happen, Like the fact that they ate the
principle like those it's and that they remember it. Yes,
like those kids they're they're living in a cave somewhere,
you know, like they can't die, they cannot interact with

(59:51):
society after that. That's insane. But the thing that was
creepy with the Pack is that it's like they were
just like kids, like they're It wasn't like they weren't
a monster. They were just like your fellow classmates and
just being like so cruel and so like I don't
know it, like can you imagine being that lady with

(01:00:13):
the baby you're walking mm hmmm, and teenagers are like
and like start like growling at you and stuff. But
they're teenagers. They're not like, it's not a monster, whereas
like if it was a monster, I would be like, okay, yeah,
there's just something like a little bit creepy about that. That. Yeah,

(01:00:35):
totally kind of enjoyed, but I don't want the show
to keep doing that.

Speaker 2 (01:00:39):
Do you have just offhand before we get into the prediction,
was there a favorite episode of yours from this season?

Speaker 5 (01:00:45):
I think the nightmares one was my favorite. Yeah, which,
funny enough, what was my miss I misunderstood the same? Like,
didn't I misunderstand something that Lena misunderstood?

Speaker 2 (01:00:59):
You did not? Okay, so the thing that you and
Lena both misunderstood was puppet show you like I thought
the puppet was lying.

Speaker 5 (01:01:09):
I was like, this dude's no good. I don't care
what he says. He's He's like that guy's not. Still
a bit convinced.

Speaker 1 (01:01:19):
They want us to feel touched at the end, and
I'm like, I'm still convinced, Like what do you sad
to see him go?

Speaker 2 (01:01:25):
No, the thing with nightmares is amark.

Speaker 4 (01:01:31):
To talk about nightmares, and she was like, maybe it's
just me, but I feel like something more was happening
with his baseball coach than just him saying that he
lost them the game. And I responded to said, yeah,
he beat him into a coll that's why he went
to jail.

Speaker 2 (01:01:50):
And he went to jail.

Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Your citizens arrest.

Speaker 5 (01:01:56):
I have no idea where I was and that episode, I.

Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
Feel like I have moments like that all the time
and I'm like, wait, hold the fucking phone, Like how
did we get here?

Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
Eric is a mother of two children before, so like
it's a lot working hard.

Speaker 5 (01:02:14):
And I have to like watch the episodes with headphones
in because I'm like, I don't know, I don't know.
I mean it's not but my kid, my oldest is
three years old, so I'm like, it's not like the
show is like scary, but like for three oh, maybe
it is anyway, So I have like headphones in, but
I obviously because then when Ian said that, I'm like, Okay, yeah,
why did I even think he was in a coma?

(01:02:35):
I mean that says something about that episode without me
even understanding those very major details. I didn't really like
that episode. I love it fun, the dreams like it
revealing things about people. That one was my favorite. I
just thought it was really interesting, uh like a fun

(01:02:57):
way to get to know these characters a little bit more.

Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
Agreed.

Speaker 5 (01:03:03):
I like that one.

Speaker 7 (01:03:04):
I totally agree.

Speaker 2 (01:03:06):
All right, well it's the time. The time has come.
Do you have a prediction of what you think is
gonna happen in the future of this TV show.

Speaker 5 (01:03:15):
I do at some point we will meet the spiky
haired guy.

Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
Okay, got it.

Speaker 5 (01:03:21):
That that's not even in this show.

Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
But this is like when Alex came on and knew
that Skyler Aston was in Glee, and so every season
would say and then Skyler Aston's gonna appear as this character.
And then when we got to Skyler Asten's character, he's
literally in one episode and that's it. And Alex, that's hilarious.

Speaker 5 (01:03:43):
I do have predictions for him, but we'll get to
that later. Okay, this is like my over I'll get
into like I broke it down by like characters.

Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
Okay, I'm not gonna Alex is so yeah, of course
I'm like listening.

Speaker 5 (01:04:02):
To I know. I'm like, you like wrote a freaking script.
I'm not doing to get him on the boot now,
there you do. This is kind of the overall idea
because season one, I feel like a lot of it

(01:04:22):
was about Buffy kind of being sad about the fact
that she's the Slayer and how it makes her lonely,
and that like season one is her finding like this
community that she now has these people who know that
she's a slayer and are there for her and help
her with it. So I feel like season two is

(01:04:46):
where some of those relationships are going to be put
to the test a little bit. Watching the finale, the
vibe I was getting from her comments and whatever Buffy
is that she is like experiencing some additional powers or
something has changed.

Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
Something is literally I was like, I'm not going to
sing on this podcast, So I'm like, is she more powerful?

Speaker 5 (01:05:17):
Is that? What? Like those little comments were like he
can't hypnotize her and I don't really remember that being
a thing. But also I'm like, did anybody try to
hypnotize her before? I don't know. I don't remember that
being a thing, So maybe they can't hypnotize slayers or
is that a new thing that she's experiencing. My other

(01:05:39):
question with that is when he like bit her, was
there some like weird transfer of of I don't know?
So now does she have this weird inner turmoil because
there's like masterness in her blood, you know, I don't know,

(01:06:00):
So that's I'm wondering that could be something that kind
of like separates her from her community. There's something else
going on inside of me? That like I don't understand,
but like she's scared to like share it with everyone
else because she doesn't know what it means and she
doesn't want I don't know. That's I feel like sometimes

(01:06:22):
when you don't understand something about yourself, then you're like
nervous to share it with other people because you don't
know how to express it in a way that they'll understand.
So I'm like, is that going to like separate her
a little bit from everyone else? So that's my question
with with Buffy. We've established her relationship with all of
these people, but whether it be some kind of like

(01:06:47):
inner turmoil in herself that she separates herself, or even
maybe she kind of like is feeling that burden of
like putting people in danger that she loves and feeling
bad about that that she then starts to kind of
separate herself from them. Watching the finale, I feel like

(01:07:10):
Willow kind of gets pretty shaken up after she sees
all those the kids that she like knows and they've
just been like slaughtered. Will the evil entities in the world,
like is it too much for her? And will it
start weighing on her in a way that it's kind
of starting to traumatize her and Buffy like loving Willow

(01:07:33):
and small as your face when you're not at me,
I'm like, anyways, I'm like, probably so off. That's what
I feel like your face is saying to me. But
that's okay. I don't care anyways. So if in an

(01:07:53):
attempt to like protect Willow and her sanity, if Buffy
will kind of separate herself from Willow in a way,
then Willow. So I feel like Willow gets a little
bit ousted, mostly from Buffy because all of these people,
they already know these things, They love her, they want
to help, they want to help even from like just

(01:08:16):
to help the world. There's gonna be like a Giles
Watcher's Club that is formed. That like is all these
people that kind of unbeknownst to Buffy are helping Giles
with his watcher duties in an attempt to like help
Buffy because she won't let them help. And so Willow

(01:08:41):
will be kind of part of that group. Will show
can continue because she already kind of is like the
little like computer person and like helps with that kind
of stuff with Giles, So like show continue that. But
with the friendship with Buffy being a little bit disconnec
it'll mostly just kind of be like with Giles. But

(01:09:06):
something that I very much enjoyed in the finale was
the dynamic between Cordelia and Willow, and I kind of
like want that to continue. So my idea with Cordelia
because she, like everyone else in Sunnydale's like weird crap
happens and they kind of like ignore it. I still
want Cordelia to be disconnect. I don't want her to

(01:09:28):
like become one of the scoobies yet, like I feel
like that's too soon, But I like the idea of
her being awoken to what's going on. She fights it
a little bit, like she wants to stay in the
group of the people that are just like living their
lives and she wants to continue in the ignorant bliss,

(01:09:50):
but she can't, Like she keeps being aware of stuff
and it starts bothering her. The fact that like nobody
else picks up on it or cares where it starts
to kind of drive her crazy a little bit. So
then she from the finale scenario with Willow is like
I know that Willow knows that there's stuff going on,

(01:10:13):
and so then she starts kind of going to Willow
in an attempt to maintain her sanity in a way
of like, Okay, I'm not the only one that's like
seeing this. So it kind of starts off more like that,
but then it turns into this like friendship that maybe

(01:10:34):
they don't neither of them really acknowledges that, like it's
a friendship, but like it is kind of thing. So
it's like a still she's not like one of the
scoobies yet, but she's you know, it's the beginnings. That's
my Willow Cordelia stuff that that's gonna be a sidebar.
Another fun duo that I liked in the finale was

(01:10:56):
the Angel Xander situation that they like kind of hate
each other, but they're like united in their desire to
protect Buffy. And so I think now that Xander has
expressed that he likes Buffy and she turned him down,
he for his pride kind of and also like to

(01:11:19):
protect himself slightly emotionally, is going to like remove himself
from the friend group and he'd be like, I need
my space. I can't be around you. Because also the finale,
it's like, Xander, you think you loved Buffy before when
she is walking into the library and saying the theme music,

(01:11:42):
Oh my gosh, like he's a goner. Like after a moment,
he was like, I straight up like I can't be
around you. You're too amazing and I like you too much.
Everything you do just like kills me a little bit.
So he's just like, I have to be removed from Buffy.
But again he's still like he and Angel because Angels

(01:12:03):
still in the camp of I can't like I love Buffy,
but like I can't do that. Key and Xander are
like kind of in the same boat of wanting to
help and protect Buffy because they both love her, but

(01:12:23):
then also like not wanting, needing, needing to have space
from Buffy for like their own personal reasons, So they
kind of become one of those duos that's like they
hate each other, but they like are united. I'm trying
to think there's like a specific movie or TV show

(01:12:44):
that that's kind of the thing where they then like
the two guys.

Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
Like Donkey and Puss in Boots and Shrek two is
what you're thinking of.

Speaker 5 (01:12:56):
I don't get though, what is there united? Oh no,
I guess that's true. Okay, okay, I'll take that but.

Speaker 1 (01:13:07):
They do love Shrek.

Speaker 5 (01:13:08):
They do love Shrek. No, I'm trying to think, because
then they like become like buddies and they have like
a little bit of a romance. Do you know what
I'm talking about?

Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
I ye, like I've heard, but I don't know what.

Speaker 1 (01:13:22):
Friends to lovers.

Speaker 5 (01:13:24):
In the finale as like you can, they're like kind
of pissed off at each other the whole time, and
Xander at that one point is like you're looking at
my neck like.

Speaker 1 (01:13:34):
Like that kind of stuff.

Speaker 5 (01:13:35):
It'll be like that kind of uh interaction the whole season.

Speaker 2 (01:13:41):
Don very yes, give it, donkey, are you kidding me? Shrek?

Speaker 5 (01:13:55):
Oh yeah, Because they're gonna be the like super secret
helpers kind of like how Angel helps Giles now, like
in the in the night hidden away kind of thing.
Xander's gonna join in on that. So it's gonna be
like those two butting heads and then Giles like having
to be like the middleman between them all the time

(01:14:16):
and being like, shut up, we have a job to
do that kind of stuff. You know. Yeah, Joyce is
just gonna like keep living her best life. Her gallery
is gonna be super successful, and she's gonna be crazy
busy with that and that's but that's gonna be that's
gonna add to Buffy's like loneliness. Giles starts the Watchers Club.

(01:14:40):
I literally wrote in my notes Giles keeps being the
absolute best and sweetest.

Speaker 1 (01:14:47):
Thanks goodness, right, thank goodness.

Speaker 9 (01:14:51):
Okay, oh but this is my So this is a
like a question, but then like also whatever, I'll just
ask it. So in the Witch episode, Giles like does witchcraft.

Speaker 2 (01:15:08):
So like.

Speaker 5 (01:15:11):
In this world mm hmmm, does one choose to be
a witch? Or is one born a witch?

Speaker 2 (01:15:20):
Or thrust them?

Speaker 5 (01:15:24):
Yeah? So like with that crazy mom, like did she
just like start dabbling in witchcraft decided like because she
wanted to? Or like was she a witch? Like is
witchcraft something is? Was Giles able to do the spell
because he is a watcher and has like a connection

(01:15:47):
to the supernatural? Or like is witchcraft something that you
can start learning like freaking knitting?

Speaker 1 (01:15:58):
I did you ever play like Dan ever? I've never
played it, but I mean, okay, that's okay.

Speaker 5 (01:16:03):
My two brothers love that.

Speaker 1 (01:16:06):
Well, there's a difference between in Dungeon and Dragons and
I'm sure and like other fantasy media, and this is
just what I assume. I don't know for sure, but
I think that. So where I'm getting to is in
D and D there's a difference between sorcerers and wizards, okay,
where sorcerers have like inherent magic and wizards like go

(01:16:28):
to school and study it and like maybe they have
like a predisposition. But in this world it's very much
a I picked up a spell book and practiced and
studied and became a witch and I.

Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
Yeah, I always view it as like someone becomes a dancer.
And there are some people who, no matter how much
training they get, do not have rhythm. And there are
some people that just have a knack for dance yea,
and get training to be better dancers. But just like
at their core hand dance, that's kind of how I
do witchcraft. In this world. Some people will never be

(01:17:04):
able to do it. Some people have a stronger knack
for it, but most people can kind of if they
want to learn a little bit.

Speaker 1 (01:17:13):
Okay, yes, so like even just like using Giles as
a as an example here, like you know, he's never
done it before, he or no, he's never he's never
done it before, he said, Oh, but he has studied
it for a long time. He is very familiar with
this world and like did it with.

Speaker 2 (01:17:37):
Gus and also like with Jenny, who is experienced.

Speaker 1 (01:17:42):
Yeah, I'm talking about like in the witch when because
he says that, yes, but you know when he does
it with Jenny, like he like has maybe like a
predisposition to do it, but mostly is like a good
study and is like has a good grasp.

Speaker 5 (01:17:59):
Okay, And I do feel like we're maybe missing a
supernatural good guy and I'm kind of wanting that. So
I was like, is witchcraft something that we could somebody
could pick up? It's a little side gig, you know.
I don't think it'll be I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:18:20):
Think as an income through their witchcraft.

Speaker 5 (01:18:23):
Witchcraft?

Speaker 1 (01:18:23):
Yeah, who do you think it's gonna be?

Speaker 5 (01:18:26):
I I'm feeling either Jenny or Willow. Part of me
like leans a little bit more towards I don't know.
This is the one that I put like question marks
by both of their names because I was like, who do.
I feel like it would be kind of fun if

(01:18:47):
it's will it because I feel like Willow would be
a little bit more of a surprise and she's.

Speaker 10 (01:18:51):
Like she's so sweet that it would kind of be
like hell, yeah, if she like all of a sudden
had like witch powers.

Speaker 5 (01:19:02):
I don't know, maybe I am leaning a little bit
more to the will. I feel like it would be
more satisfy if it was will Yeah, But I could
see it being Jenny mostly just because, like I don't know,
she's like another adult figure and like could be like
somebody that they go to and she like has some

(01:19:26):
she has participated a little exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:19:28):
She has some level of power already because she has
her coven and they were doing like a protection spell together.

Speaker 5 (01:19:34):
And yeah, yeah, So I feel like if it's Jenny,
it won't be like it won't be like Jenny is
a witch, but it would be like Jenny can't do witchcraft.
Does that make sense? Like she'll be somebody like, oh,
in a time period if that we need witchcraft, Jenny's
our go to girl.

Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
She'll be like the person who doesn't have a kN
act for it, but took five years of ballet so
they like got the basics.

Speaker 1 (01:20:01):
Yeah, totally.

Speaker 2 (01:20:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:20:03):
But if it's Willow, I feel like it'll be this
like coming of age awake. It'll be like I said,
it'll be very satisfying if it's Willow and she I
think it would be like Willow's a witch. I think
that would be fun. Maybe that won't, wouldn't. I feel
like if that if it was Willow, I feel like
it'll happen later, Like it won't happen in season two.

(01:20:26):
I feel like that would probably be something that they
would wait later because I feel like we still have
a lot to go with Willow, even her with Sander
and just being so in love with Sander. I feel
like I need her to get over that so we're
not will Yeah, so maybe this next season will be

(01:20:49):
like Buffy kind of out of love for Willow and
wanting to protect her. There'll be like a separation between
the two of them a little bit, but Willow will
keep learning and growing on her own, kind of like Sideline,
and that will lead into her gaining confidence in herself
and like her own abilities, which then will like lead

(01:21:12):
into her being a witch. If that doesn't happen, I
actually might be kind of sad they should take from me.
That's like someone because I like will Okay, what do
I have? Angel I kind of already went over. They
probably are going to get together at some point. I'm
not ready for that. I don't support it yet because

(01:21:36):
of the age difference, so that's not something that it's
going to change. But I don't know whatever such as
vampire stories, what can you do if I feel like
if they did something with that in season two, it
would be like one of those going back to New
Girl where they got jessed nicked together too soon and

(01:21:56):
then they had to break them up, because it's like,
what are we wanting watching this for now? Anyways, even
though that's not the main plot. The main thing is
that Buffy's just a badass exactly. Oh, speaking of Jenny,
I don't know if it's just because like they're the
only two adults that like are tuned in, but I'm like,

(01:22:17):
I don't know, is she gonna have a flaying with Giles?
But I'm like, I don't. I love Giles so much.
I don't know Jenny enough yet that I'm like, you,
well enough, I'm not rooting for that yet. But then
also speaking of her, this is where the spiky guy

(01:22:40):
comes because this is my this is my guess. I
just because I was just like, I know, at some
point he's in this show. I know nothing about who
he is, spiky guy, but this I was like, spiky Guy,
spiky features spiky hair. Maybe his name is Spike. I

(01:23:04):
really tried. I was like being so strategic when I
was like looking up the names of the episodes to
not find any information and good on ya. So because
I really don't want to know if his name is
actually Spike or not. So in the finale, when Jenny's like, hey,

(01:23:28):
there's isn't she say it's like a monk that's like
sending messages about the anointed one. What if that spiky man?
I don't know? And then he just like cause I
just feel like she was like bringing that up a
lot for them to just drop it, you know. So
I'm like, is that gonna be they like connect via

(01:23:51):
however she was getting information from him, and then he's like,
I don't know because what I he gives me whip it?
Who vibes?

Speaker 11 (01:24:04):
Oh you are literally you are talking about the MTV
movie Award parody The Da Vinci Code is what you're
talking about from.

Speaker 5 (01:24:16):
Like Dog, what's that guy? Is McGregor in the movie?

Speaker 2 (01:24:23):
It's Andy Dick in the parody in but it's who
is in the final guy who whips his back?

Speaker 5 (01:24:31):
Isn't his name? Silas?

Speaker 2 (01:24:33):
I've never seen the da Vinci Code. I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:24:35):
I've only seen it once.

Speaker 1 (01:24:36):
I feel like, was it was Ean McGregor? Am I
making that up in the DaVinci Code?

Speaker 3 (01:24:42):
Yeah? Maybe? Isn't it that it's.

Speaker 1 (01:24:49):
His?

Speaker 2 (01:24:49):
Is Silas?

Speaker 5 (01:24:50):
Okay? Look at me?

Speaker 2 (01:24:53):
And it did come out in two thousand and six.
I'm so good. I guessing the years of movies. It's crazy.

Speaker 5 (01:24:58):
Continue look at you anyways, I get slight like, I'm like,
maybe that could be him.

Speaker 2 (01:25:06):
The fact that you were trying to talk about the
character Silas from Livin.

Speaker 5 (01:25:11):
The quickest way to connect what I was saying.

Speaker 2 (01:25:15):
Good guy, I knew you.

Speaker 5 (01:25:18):
Would know immediately what I was talking about.

Speaker 2 (01:25:20):
You have literally that thing all the time. Well, I've
been resisting this, but since you brought it up, you've
quoted it about ten times during this recording because he
keeps going They're going to be hidden away, which is
a reference to Wind to win, Jimmy Fallon tes to
sneak away and goes hidden. Sorry, this is.

Speaker 3 (01:25:44):
We're going.

Speaker 2 (01:25:46):
Jessica Alba hosted the MTV Movie Awards. It was very
special to our family specifically because did.

Speaker 5 (01:25:54):
We even watch we were did we just watch?

Speaker 2 (01:25:59):
It was you and me flipping through channels, and it
stopped on the guy threatening Jessica Alba and going tell
me where the golden popcorn is or Flavor Flav gets
it and she says that's a water gun and he says, yes,
filled with my pee. And we were like, what is this?
And then we sat down and watched the whole thing.

Speaker 5 (01:26:19):
Of course, Yeah, Lina's like, what the hell?

Speaker 2 (01:26:25):
I love you, Flavor, Yeah, you want my pea in
your mouth?

Speaker 4 (01:26:30):
No, boy, this is what we were This is what
we were laughing at in middle school.

Speaker 5 (01:26:38):
Yes, yes, this is why we are the way we are.

Speaker 2 (01:26:41):
Alb No, I'll buy no, okay anyways, so Sorrya's face
right now.

Speaker 5 (01:26:51):
Si't know what to say. Dropped about that is are
probably the weirdest parts of that.

Speaker 2 (01:26:57):
It's so yeah, my champion jis.

Speaker 5 (01:27:04):
Holy cow, that I'm about to get like a renewed.

Speaker 2 (01:27:12):
Like a resurface, yeah, renewed life. And people are gonna
watch it and go like this is what they've been
quoting for night years.

Speaker 5 (01:27:20):
He's a bunch of listeners.

Speaker 1 (01:27:22):
Yeah this is oh my gosh, but what if you
can't find it. I feel like all of my set
is true, like quotable things like don't exist anymore, so
they just exist in our like Lord.

Speaker 2 (01:27:33):
There is a YouTube parody of Sweet sixteen from MTV
that we quote all the time that has been erased
from the Internet, and.

Speaker 5 (01:27:42):
I'm always sad.

Speaker 2 (01:27:43):
I always wonder if the people who made it are
aware that all these years later they've done Yeah, okay,
back to Buffy.

Speaker 5 (01:27:53):
Back to whip it. He kind of gives me that
vibes like he's intense, and I remember his hair being blonde.
He could be like a weird self harm inflicting monk
that has like inner knowledge of supernatural stuff. So maybe
that's him, or maybe he's like a demon. I am

(01:28:17):
very excited to learn why I associate spikiness with that guy,
whether it's his name or it's his hair. I do
remember his hair being, you know, like that style that
the kids did where it's like tufts of hair. Yeah,

(01:28:37):
a boy, Yes, I remember him having that. Maybe he didn't,
I don't know, but in my head he has that
last two I think unless there's other people that I'm
forgetting about Snyder, I just want him to like continue
to be like the normal life bad guy. He doesn't

(01:28:58):
know anything going on, He doesn't know any supernaturally stuff.
He's just like a stick in the mud, gets in
the way of them fighting demons. But like because he
you know, like makes Giles do stuff like he had
to do all the weird Talent show kind of thing,
or he pun he like gives Buffy detention like that

(01:29:21):
kind of stuff. I think that I love that dynamic
with him. I think that's super fun and I feel
like in season two, I don't need anything else for him.
I just want him to continue doing that.

Speaker 2 (01:29:32):
Do you know what?

Speaker 5 (01:29:36):
That would be quite fun? You want him Giles he
and Joe's fall in love or Giles. But no, Giles's
too he can be gay. I just don't want him
to be gay. For Snyder, I don't like Snyder. I mean,
I like Snyder, but I like Snyder and the fact
that I don't like Snyder.

Speaker 1 (01:29:55):
You know, do you remember seeing him in Hamlet?

Speaker 5 (01:30:00):
I remember Ian talking about that, but I don't because
I never watched the show. No, And Ian was like,
there's a guy, there's a guy from Buffy in the
Shakespeare Festival. But I was like, I don't know that.

Speaker 2 (01:30:20):
He said Spikey.

Speaker 5 (01:30:23):
Maybe I did, because that's literally like who I remembered.
You'd think I would have remembered Giles because I loved
him so much, but I didn't, so I I just
remember Ian was pretty stoked about it. But anyways, that
would be kind of a fun though, if if he
had a fling with Joyce, because that would be so like,
what are you doing Snyder kind of thing.

Speaker 12 (01:30:45):
But I don't want that either because also like he
should be alone, just kidding, he could be happy if he.

Speaker 5 (01:30:55):
Wants, Okay, last one, although I do kind I would
also just totally love if the Anointed One Little Boy
is done and that was it lead up whole season
of this Anointed One Little Boy and it's literally he

(01:31:21):
walks up to Buffy, I need help, and then she's like,
I know who you are, just like cut the bs
and then he's just like, Okay, come with me. And
if that was it, that would be hilarious. But I
don't think that will. I don't know maybe that will,
but I feel like maybe it would be also very
funny if he is the new overarching bad guy and

(01:31:44):
that all of the vampires have to answer to a
little Bible. I would kind of love that it could
go either way for me, and I would be pleased.
So yeah, I don't know. Is there anyone else that
I like forgot?

Speaker 2 (01:31:59):
I think you said everyone. You for sure said all
the leads and then like I don't want to ask
questions about certain people because then it spoils I see
them again.

Speaker 5 (01:32:08):
Oh they're a person.

Speaker 2 (01:32:09):
Yeah yeah, you're like, oh, they're going to come back, So.

Speaker 5 (01:32:13):
I'm going to leave it. I'm going to leave it. Yeah,
with the predictions.

Speaker 2 (01:32:16):
That I gave, I think they were good. I think
they were you fulfilled the tradition, which is you were
way off and then a few of them you were
so spot on that it was like, what's going on?

Speaker 5 (01:32:29):
Oh I'm excited.

Speaker 2 (01:32:30):
That's always the fun.

Speaker 5 (01:32:31):
Note, so that I can see like what it is
that I was right about, And.

Speaker 2 (01:32:37):
Well, thank you so much, thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:32:40):
Yeah that was so fun.

Speaker 2 (01:32:41):
I had a great time. I love listening to that stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:32:44):
Yeah, if you ever want a thirst over Giles again,
please yes, do it again.

Speaker 3 (01:32:49):
That was awesome.

Speaker 5 (01:32:50):
I'm sure my love for him will keep growing. Okay,
I'll be very sad if I not like him, But
I don't see that happening.

Speaker 2 (01:33:01):
Are you aware that he's Hannah Waddington's evil like husband?
And Ted Lasso.

Speaker 5 (01:33:06):
Oh well, no, I you guys said it, and I
was like, I didn't know that.

Speaker 7 (01:33:11):
I didn't that together rocked.

Speaker 11 (01:33:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:33:14):
When said that, I was like, what, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:33:19):
He also looked at a dad in a Persuasion by
Jane Austin movie.

Speaker 2 (01:33:25):
I say recently, Aaron will have seen that for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:33:29):
Yeah, the one with Sally persuasion in the from the
nineties Sally Field. I keep wanting, It's not Field, not
nineteen eighty five, two thousand and seven, excuse.

Speaker 2 (01:33:39):
Me, okay, and that might be the TV one that
we used to watch.

Speaker 5 (01:33:43):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, he does Sally. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:33:48):
Is that the one that we used to watch together either?

Speaker 5 (01:33:50):
But like that's like, yeah, that's one of the ones
that remember when, like we watched Jane Austin movie every Sunday.

Speaker 2 (01:33:57):
Well because Masterpiece Master Peter did a thing where they
were going to adapt every single Jane Austen novel and
so every Sunday they would release a new one Man
and that was huge in our households.

Speaker 5 (01:34:10):
I do have to say, though, sorry this is but
speaking of that movie's persuasion, I love that whole movie,
love it all, except for the freaking final kiss.

Speaker 1 (01:34:23):
It's in Persuasion.

Speaker 5 (01:34:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:34:26):
Oh yeah, they like don't kiss for like like two
whole minutes.

Speaker 5 (01:34:29):
Yeah, it's like so painful something. It's like gross, like
she kind of like baby bird mouths a little bit,
and it's like.

Speaker 1 (01:34:42):
I just remember, well, I mean I watched it like
a couple of months ago, but I mean they have
that moment where where what's her name in it? What's
the persuasion girls and her name and yeah, AND's like
running through the square shaky cam following her. Yeah, I remember.
I was like, I'm gonna throw up.

Speaker 5 (01:35:01):
I'm gonna I'm gonna throw up like motions.

Speaker 3 (01:35:04):
Yes, serious.

Speaker 1 (01:35:05):
I felt like it was like a found footage horror movie.
I was like this. I also watched it the same
night that I watched the other Persuasion with Dakota Johnson.

Speaker 5 (01:35:15):
I don't like that.

Speaker 1 (01:35:17):
Yeah, well that's why I watched the two thousand and
seven one because I was like, I have.

Speaker 5 (01:35:20):
To cleanse myself exactly exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:35:25):
But then I almost threw up. So when are they
gonna make a persuasion that doesn't harrow me?

Speaker 2 (01:35:30):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:35:32):
I do think that two thousand and seven.

Speaker 1 (01:35:33):
One is like, yeah, I think it's the best one.

Speaker 5 (01:35:37):
Whereas like the New Dakota john Johnson Johnson, Yeah, the
way she plays a kind of pisses me off. I'm like,
you're not Elizabeth Bennett, You're Anne Ella No.

Speaker 1 (01:35:48):
And that's the thing is, it's just totally is not No.
I love it, and I love Emma twenty twenty so much.
It's one of my favorite Jane Auston adaptations. So I
think they were trying to ride that. I know they
were trying to ride that like hipstery, cutesy thing, and
I just feel like Persuasion to me is like so

(01:36:08):
sad and like melancholy and just not lend itself to
that like cutesy, fleabaggy vibe that they were trying to
go for.

Speaker 5 (01:36:14):
So I was like, this isn't connecting.

Speaker 2 (01:36:18):
Yeah, well that's Jane Austen. That's the Buffy, which Austin
leading lady would be the Slayer. What do we think.

Speaker 1 (01:36:26):
Think?

Speaker 5 (01:36:27):
I mean, I feel like cliche answers Elizabeth Bennett, and I.

Speaker 2 (01:36:31):
Think the answer is Mary Bennett.

Speaker 1 (01:36:34):
I was just thinking Mary. I was just thinking, man, Mary,
Mary would be such a good Slayer.

Speaker 2 (01:36:43):
I could see a little bit who's missed sense I
know Marianna's sensibility. Whose sense I don't remember her name, Eleanor.
I think Eleanor could be.

Speaker 5 (01:36:54):
Marianne could be a Slayer. Well, no, she's a little
bit too the sky.

Speaker 2 (01:36:59):
Yeah, her feet are on the grounds a responsibility, you.

Speaker 1 (01:37:03):
Know what.

Speaker 5 (01:37:05):
Is a freakin Yeah, she's pretty bad as she is
favorite Jane Austen Heroin.

Speaker 1 (01:37:13):
I love that.

Speaker 5 (01:37:13):
Yeah, I think she could deal with it. I think
she could take on that responsibility.

Speaker 1 (01:37:18):
I think so too. I think she's got a good
heart and like a sense of justice. Oh yeah, I
keep wanting to say Emma, but I don't think Emma
is governable in that way.

Speaker 2 (01:37:27):
Yeah, she's too she's too messy.

Speaker 5 (01:37:29):
She loves the drama, but she loves it and the
fact that she is Yeah, she's kind of her.

Speaker 1 (01:37:34):
I think Emma is Cordelia.

Speaker 2 (01:37:35):
Oh no, I agree. I think it's Cordelia. She will
she has an inherent sense of justice. She will help
out when need be, but her main focus is not
saving the world. She's got more important stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:37:47):
No, she wants to spill the team exactly. Aaron, thank
you so much for being here.

Speaker 5 (01:37:53):
Seriously, that was awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:37:55):
That was awesome.

Speaker 5 (01:37:57):
Genuinely. Oh no, keep going, You're good.

Speaker 1 (01:37:59):
I just I'm really excited for you to see this
next season.

Speaker 5 (01:38:02):
I am too. I have been holding off.

Speaker 2 (01:38:04):
Yeah, and I can go crazy you once you finish.
You can't go to season three until we're done.

Speaker 5 (01:38:09):
But because I know that I can't and it's gonna
kill me, so I'm gonna have to go slow. I
had a good time. Good, I'm enjoying this show.

Speaker 2 (01:38:22):
I'm I'm genuinely the best thing I've ever heard.

Speaker 1 (01:38:26):
No, seriously, we're rejoicing.

Speaker 2 (01:38:33):
Welcome back everyone. Can you believe those predictions? How crazy?
Oh my gosh, which ones will come true?

Speaker 1 (01:38:38):
Anyways, we'll see up first on our second half of
emails from y'all. We've got an email from Sophie.

Speaker 2 (01:38:48):
I'm writing this as I have just finished the season
one finale and oh my god, that episode was everything
to me. I truly felt everything that happened to Prophecy
Girl to my core. That was insane. Also, your podcast
EPISOD doesn't come out till tomorrow, so sorry if I'm
just repeating what you said. Lol. Other episodes throughout the
first season definitely dealt with more teen specific scenarios. The

(01:39:09):
Witch the pack out of mind out a psychome to mind,
but this was the first time I really went, holy shit,
they're just kids, even as a certified Xander disliker at
this point in the show. The scene where he asked
Buffy out was so pathetic. That seems like too harsh
of a word, but when he said try, I'll wait

(01:39:33):
broken heart emoji, ugh, I just felt so bad for him.
Even him starting to lash out didn't make me out
that much because you could just tell it came from
that place of teenage rejection and Willow my baby girl
broken heart emoji. She looked so little and afraid, curled

(01:39:53):
up in her bed, talking about how she knew those
guys and spends time in that room and how school
doesn't feel safe anymore. I also think that scene worked
really well as a way to a show how much
the stakes had raised, and b show the separation between
Buffy and enormy, which is something we don't always think
about since the show is from her perspective. Finally, my
best and bravest girl, Buffy. She even says it herself.

(01:40:15):
She's just sixteen. The build up with Giles getting increasingly
distressed was already making me so emo. But when Buffy
found out that she was destined to die, oh my god,
I'm obsessed with the decision to make her first reaction
be laughing. Sophie, you get it. We said that exact
same thing in the episode. I think it's such a
good choice, because what the fuck do you do with

(01:40:36):
that information? But the screaming match with Giles broke my
little heart because she's right, she's just a baby. She
shouldn't have to sacrifice herself for the world. But she's
a good person, so it doesn't matter how much she
says she quits or how much she just wants to
go to prom Of course she went anyway. Broken heart emoji. Ugh,
I just have so many feelings about my little babies
and how much I want to protect them. If season

(01:40:57):
one is considered the bad season and we're getting episodes
of this caliber, I can't fucking wait to keep going.
Love you guys, and thank you so much for introducing
me to this show. Sophie from Australia internal listener. Also,
I can't wait for more Cordelia since I'm assuming that
witnessing the opening of the Little hell Mouth means she's

(01:41:19):
part of the gang.

Speaker 5 (01:41:19):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:41:20):
Oh my god, he Louis. Guys, I love You're just
like me. They're all my little babies. They are all
my little babies. I need to protect them bad.

Speaker 2 (01:41:30):
You get it. Yeah, and season one rocks, and the
rest of the show is amazing. And episodes like Propcy
Girl Propacy Girls like amazing and fantastic. But also I
would say that I could name like one or two
episodes on the caliber of Profcy Girl per season at least.

Speaker 1 (01:41:46):
Yeah. Oh, I hope you enjoy the rest. Thank you
so much for watching with us. I love to read
emails like this, and I'm so glad that you are
connecting with the show like this broken your heart emoji.
Let's hear next from Sonia.

Speaker 2 (01:41:58):
Hi, Leen, and Ian. I have no words to describe
how much I love your podcast. I heard about your
Buffy podcast on the Gleek of the Week pod, and
I was so excited to listen. Buffy has been my
number one show for so many years, but I had
never listened to a rewatch podcast before. I'm so glad
I started yours. You guys are hilarious and I love
your opinions and insights. I'm a serial binge watcher, but

(01:42:21):
it's been so much fun to watch one episode a
week and then listen to you. It's made my life richer,
so thank you for that. I got into Buffy very young.
I was like nine or ten. I grew up in
a small Central European country, Slovakia, where Buffy aired on TV,
but for some reason, probably to keep ten year olds
from watching, it was on at one am on Buffy nights.

(01:42:45):
I would pretend to fall asleep on the couch, and later,
when my mom also fell asleep, I would change the
channel to Buffy. As a teenager, I rewatched the full
seasons on illegal streaming sites. Don't tell anyone, it's been
hard being a Buffy fan. As I rewatched the show
many times about my life. My favorite seasons have changed.

(01:43:06):
As a teenager, I loved the adult era of seasons
five through seven. Sometimes I would just rewatch those. In
my early twenties, I was obsessed with season six. Later,
I found a new appreciation for seasons one through three.
Season two might be my favorite now, though it's hard
to pick. I used to hate season four a lot,

(01:43:27):
but I started liking it more a few years back.
I'd love to know what your favorite episodes and seasons
are and if you had a similar experience of going
through different eras of liking the show. Also, I have
to mention my favorite or lack of the bet for
lack of a better word mistake is in out of Sight,
out of Mind. At the end of the episode, when

(01:43:47):
Marcy goes to the Assassin school, the teacher tells her
to sit, but every student is invisible. So how did
Marcy know which seat was empty? Do invisible people see
each other or did she sit on someone's lap? Love
to hear what you think? Love you so much, thanks
for being awesome, Sonya, Sonya. The image of like, hey,

(01:44:09):
but like you know, Marcy went invisible because she was
so ignored, So I'd love to think that like a
small percentage of those kids also were very meek and
went invisible. Totally image of Marcy sitting on someone's lap
and they're so meek they don't even say anything. But
it's like, I guess she's sitting on my lap now,

(01:44:30):
And that whole scene of her like opening the textbook
is just on some poor invisible kids lap.

Speaker 1 (01:44:37):
That is so funny.

Speaker 7 (01:44:39):
I wonder.

Speaker 1 (01:44:42):
On what planet would she know, Like, how would she
know where to sit. Let's say that she sat in
the right spot.

Speaker 2 (01:44:50):
I think it's like a sixth sense thing.

Speaker 1 (01:44:51):
Oh yeah, like I kind of like gained a different perception.

Speaker 2 (01:44:55):
Yeah, yeah, I would believe that when you lose your
you know, when you can't be seen any more, you
then like gain a greater sense of energies around you.
Totally I can buy that.

Speaker 1 (01:45:09):
I totally buy that, especially like it's been quite some
time for Mercy as well, so I bet, like, you know,
maybe she hasn't been around like straight up invisible people,
but maybe like maybe even ghosts.

Speaker 2 (01:45:21):
Yeah, hey, hey, but I do also buy that she
sat on some porns and they were too embarrassed to say.

Speaker 1 (01:45:30):
They'll never make it an assassin school with that attitude,
I swear I love this email.

Speaker 2 (01:45:36):
Oh my god, yes, sonya, this email is very special.

Speaker 7 (01:45:45):
Yeah, thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (01:45:45):
For lack of a better word, I I'm honored that
we are your first Rewatch podcast. No, seriously, I hope
you enjoy. I'm very glad you found us from Gleek
of the Week. I'm excited that someone made the jump
over hearing is talking about Buffy. I know, very thrilled
to have you.

Speaker 1 (01:46:04):
Oh my god, this is lovely. What are some of
our favorite seasons? Just like, no context favorite seasons.

Speaker 2 (01:46:10):
What's the bat?

Speaker 1 (01:46:10):
I'll go first, Obviously I'm a big Season five girl,
Big Season five girl, big Season seven girl. I like
Season six, Big Season three girl. Obviously I love them all.
But off of the top of like, what I always
tell people is my favorite season is Season five, yeah,
and then those ones as well.

Speaker 2 (01:46:29):
Yeah, So I'm very interested to see how my perspective
shifts because absolutely similar to you, Sonya, and then similar
to you, Lena, my first rewatch is a teenager. I
was really into five, six, and seven, and I'm the same.
I have always told people that my favorite season is
season five, yeah, and like I'll be interested to see

(01:46:50):
if that changes. Yeah, definitely, because goodness knows, I did
not like season one at all as a teen, Yeah,
and I really enjoyed it this time. Yeah, me too,
So I'll be injured to see if my ranking shifts
around a little bit. Yeah, but yeah, I love, love
loved Season five. Same.

Speaker 1 (01:47:09):
We'll definitely see in terms of ranking. Like even like
I have always talked a big game about hating Season
four and just even casually watching it. Now I feel
like my perception of it has changed a lot. So
I'm I'm I'm desperately looking forward to when we can
talk about that season because I think I think it'll

(01:47:29):
just we'll just find a new appreciation for it. And
I'm really excited.

Speaker 2 (01:47:33):
I agree. I I am very interested to see how
I feel about it. I similarly did not like.

Speaker 1 (01:47:40):
Yeah, yeah, but I'm excited. I'm excited. I really am.
Thank you so much, Sonya, thank you so much. I
love to hear about how people first find Buffy, especially
as children.

Speaker 2 (01:47:49):
Oh sorry, go ahead, do you have episodes and just
you just.

Speaker 7 (01:47:52):
Say that episodes?

Speaker 1 (01:47:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:47:54):
So someone I believe it was Adam, messaged us and
he was like, I think it would be fun if
you guys wrote out your top three episodes now to
see how they change by the time the show ends.
And then Adam said, of course, they're obviously gonna be
the gift once more with a feeling and hush, but
who knows that anything can happen.

Speaker 1 (01:48:15):
Okay, I love I love those three.

Speaker 2 (01:48:17):
I love those And then I responded and I said,
and what if I told you that none of those
are in my top three?

Speaker 1 (01:48:23):
I love those three? I okay, I'm a big Tabula
Rossa fan, and I love obviously the gift. The gift
is number one bar none for me. And then a
part of me wants to say Becoming part two.

Speaker 2 (01:48:42):
Oh yeah, but I also I.

Speaker 1 (01:48:44):
Want to say more. But I mean, I'm gonna say
that now, and I did, and I know what you're
gonna say. You're gonna say the body because you're sick,
because you're sick, and then what else are you gonna say?
Are You're gonna also says Tabula Rossa.

Speaker 3 (01:49:06):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:49:08):
One of our first conversations about Buffy was about Tabula
Rossa love episode.

Speaker 1 (01:49:14):
See, that's the thing is in those two episodes then
the ones who know who know? That's my favorite part
of it is Tabula Rossa. Like, I love the episode
before Tabula much, but I.

Speaker 2 (01:49:27):
Think it adds so much to each other. I agree
for your third you sick fuck. I think the third
one's going to be a surprise. Yeah, because I hadn't
really thought about it until Adam sent that, and then
I was like, what is my top because I've I've
said for years that the Body is my favorite episode.
It's my most rewatched episode of Buffy. Sorry, And then

(01:49:49):
I was like what would my other two be? And
I thought my immediate first that was Tabula Rossa, and
then the third one you can guess, but it was
like not something I hadn't really considered. And then I
put my thinking cap on and this came to me.

Speaker 1 (01:50:02):
What season is it?

Speaker 2 (01:50:04):
Three?

Speaker 1 (01:50:04):
Three?

Speaker 4 (01:50:06):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:50:06):
Graduation?

Speaker 2 (01:50:07):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:50:08):
No, oh, Faith, Hope and Trick.

Speaker 2 (01:50:14):
No, what tell't me Dopple Gangland?

Speaker 1 (01:50:19):
Oh, double Gangland? Obviously obviously it's doppel Gangland.

Speaker 2 (01:50:25):
There are two jokes in Dopple Gangland that I think
about all the time that I think are so funny.
That episode is.

Speaker 1 (01:50:34):
That episode of teler made for a year ass.

Speaker 2 (01:50:37):
It is amazing vision. I love doppel Gangland. So that's
like off the top of my head right now. Yeah,
my top three episodes. How that changes?

Speaker 1 (01:50:48):
Yeah, we'll see, We'll see, We'll see, we'll see.

Speaker 2 (01:50:50):
Yeah, do you have any like you can do some
honorable mentions now if you want?

Speaker 1 (01:50:54):
Yeah, mentions obviously obviously the final.

Speaker 2 (01:50:58):
Episode, mm hmm, chosen, chosen.

Speaker 1 (01:51:01):
I love Hush so much. I've rewatched Hush like probably
six million times.

Speaker 7 (01:51:08):
Hell yeah, I used to have like.

Speaker 1 (01:51:09):
A list on my phone in college of all my
favorite episodes to tell people.

Speaker 2 (01:51:12):
What to watch?

Speaker 1 (01:51:12):
Do I still have that?

Speaker 2 (01:51:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:51:15):
Oh my god, I have a whole list on my
phone made in when did I make this? December twenty first,
twenty twenty one. Okay, that's crazy. I only have eyes
for you. Oh my god, I.

Speaker 2 (01:51:25):
Love that episode that really checks out.

Speaker 1 (01:51:29):
Oh my god, I know I'm obsessed with that episode
Tabula Rassa obviously Becoming part two. I said it prophecy girl,
I said it hush and I love Helpless.

Speaker 2 (01:51:41):
Oh yeah, yeah, oh.

Speaker 1 (01:51:42):
Yeah, enemies. No, that's that was the list I made
in twenty twenty one.

Speaker 2 (01:51:51):
Oh yeah, I would like honor I mentioned to who
are You?

Speaker 1 (01:51:59):
Now?

Speaker 2 (01:51:59):
I've like for gotten.

Speaker 1 (01:52:00):
Every Yeah I've never seen this. See show like.

Speaker 2 (01:52:02):
Is my Honorary mentioned who are You? And that's it?
Oh No, Honorary mentioned a fool for Love?

Speaker 5 (01:52:12):
Oh love?

Speaker 2 (01:52:13):
I love fool for Love. Yeah, it might just be
those two. Those might be like my two.

Speaker 1 (01:52:21):
I love that. I think that's great. Yeah. So if
you've never seen Buffy before, that's just us saying a
bunch of words.

Speaker 2 (01:52:27):
Yeah, that's that's just you know, you know what to
look forward to? You should look forward to who are you?
Ful for Love? You should look forward to the body.
You should look forward to Dopple Gangland. You should look Oh,
honorable mention, the wish, the wish, honorable mention.

Speaker 3 (01:52:46):
You guys don't know what's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (01:52:50):
I love the wish, all right, Sonya, thank you for
this email and everyone, thank you for us just.

Speaker 1 (01:52:59):
Nonsense words just then alrighty okay, up next, we've got
a message from Alejandra.

Speaker 2 (01:53:06):
Hi, Lena, and Ian. This is Alejandra, longtime listener in Gleek,
first time emailer, and Buffy watcher. First of all, thank
you for doing Buffy. I've always wanted to watch it
as a lover for vampire media, but just never got
around to it. Your podcast was the final push I
needed to commit to watching, and I am loving it.
I wanted to watch episode by episode with the release
of the pod, but couldn't help myself in Binge season one.

(01:53:30):
I am now solely making my way through season two
since I've been too busy to Binge as a first
time watch and with no other seasons to compare it to.
I loved season one and the silliness of it all.
Maybe when I am at the end of the show,
I will also think this is the worst season, but
for now it is so good. My favorite character is Cordelia,
and I'm so pleased we get to see so much

(01:53:53):
more of Queen Sea now that she is a Scooby.
To throw it back to Lena's inside your two wolf bit,
my wolves are Cordelion Willow. I am also in team
Cordelia is autistic, coated. I would love to hear what
two Buffy characters live inside you guys as wolves. I
feel neutral about Xander and neutral to negative about Angel.

(01:54:14):
He is too brooding and borderline boring to me. Getting
more of his backstory un locked in season two is
making him a little bit more interesting. My favorite thing
about Xander and Angel is their beef and Xander's sassy
remarks about Angel. He might be a bit toxically jealous,
but I laugh every time. When you guys said Angel
was the blueprint for Edward Colin, I was gagged because

(01:54:37):
Edward is my husband. Perhaps that is good news for
Angel and he will eventually grow on me. I loved
your takes on vampirism and how nice it is that
Buffy doesn't want to become a vampire, unlike most other
vampire media. I agree that it is a curse, but
you forgot to mention perhaps the worst part of Buffy
versus vampires. You become ugly. At least in most other

(01:55:01):
vampire pop culture, you are hot, if not extra hot,
due to being a vamp, and just get some cool things.
Buffy vampires get scary vamp face, and for me that
is enough to never transform. I'll wrap up this long
email now, so looking forward to hearing your thoughts about
season two. Much love. Alejandra from the Netherlands Internationals.

Speaker 5 (01:55:25):
Listeners.

Speaker 1 (01:55:27):
The way that phrase really tickled me, really tickle me.

Speaker 2 (01:55:30):
Yeah, they're ugly. They're ugly girl, It's bad.

Speaker 1 (01:55:34):
I know.

Speaker 3 (01:55:36):
I can't wait.

Speaker 1 (01:55:37):
I keep thinking, I'm like, we should get They sell
those like a like they sell the the forehead pieces.

Speaker 2 (01:55:45):
Oh the vamp face.

Speaker 1 (01:55:47):
Oh well yeah, I mean like people just sell those
like at Spirit Halloween, random demon face. I'm like, we
should get some and be vampires.

Speaker 2 (01:55:55):
I love that idea. I think that definitely so fun.

Speaker 1 (01:55:58):
Like spirit gummer eyebrows. We love that you become ugly.

Speaker 2 (01:56:03):
You become ugly, Lena, who are your two wolves?

Speaker 1 (01:56:06):
Okay, well, okay, so one we know, one we don't know.

Speaker 7 (01:56:09):
And I can't. I can't lie when we know what
we don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:56:12):
For me too, yeah, and I'm I think that we
probably share the one that we don't know, right.

Speaker 2 (01:56:23):
Does the one we don't know have to do with
the wish?

Speaker 7 (01:56:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:56:27):
Okay then yeah, who who do we know? Can I say? Obviously?
I feel And I'm just gonna go off on Buffy
for a second, because that's my that's my angel, that's
my baby, that's my hero, that's my inspiration, you know,
my inspiration. She genuinely is my hero, and I just

(01:56:53):
appreciate so much, Like as a fellow sensitive person, it's
so nice to see this girl who is like very
sensitive be also incredibly strong. And that's something that I
find incredibly comforting about Buffy is she you know, is

(01:57:16):
like incredibly affected by the things that she sees, but
she still like stands up and carries on and like
in the moments where things I don't know, I just
really Buffy is genuinely who I aspire to be. I

(01:57:37):
seriously love her so much. I literally get emotional, and
you know, she's just incredibly formative to me. So I'm
gonna say, Buffy obviously, and I want to be her
so bad. So that's that. Who would I say, Who
would you say, is your one of your wolves?

Speaker 2 (01:57:52):
Yeah? So I'd say my two wolves are Willow and
the one that we don't know. Yeah, because I think
there's some aspects of Willow's character throughout the whole show
that I'm not going to talk about. But also like
Willow is so nervous about how she is perceived and

(01:58:12):
so like will become a doormat for people to like
not make them uncomfortable. And then the one that we
don't know is very much the opposite of that. Yeah,
And I feel like I really flip flop between those
two extremes depending on the situation that I'm in. I'm
in situations where it's literally like I will lie on
the ground and let you walk over me because I

(01:58:33):
so badly want people to like not be uncomfortable or
to like me or whatever whatever. Yeah, And then I
will get in other situations where I'm like, so fuck
all of you, here's my opinion, and I don't care
what you have to talk about.

Speaker 1 (01:58:48):
Something I love so much about that character, and I
keep seeing a clip of this character come up in
this spoiler free but something that I really I can't
say this. I'm not gonna You thought you were gonna
get me to spoil I'm not gonna, No, I won't.
Who would I say? I would say maybe out of
like the Season one crew, I'd love to be Jenny.

(01:59:11):
I'd love to be Jenny.

Speaker 2 (01:59:13):
Hell yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:59:14):
But also Giles like really stressed out, loves to read
obsessed with Jenny. So maybe Buffy and maybe Buffy and
Giles for me. Honestly that I think that's really good accurate.

(01:59:37):
I think it's accurate too. It might even be more
accurate than.

Speaker 2 (01:59:40):
Than the one we don't know. Yeah, I actually love
I first of all, think we shouldn't talk about this
character very much because we don't know them. But I
also love the concept of just referring to them as
the one we don't know. Well anytime that for some
reason we have to bring them up before they're introduced,
they're just the one we don't we don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:59:59):
Let's keep doing it.

Speaker 2 (02:00:02):
And then every time a new character gets introduced, the
listeners will be like, is this the one beyond the
one we can say?

Speaker 1 (02:00:06):
I think you'll know when you know. You'll know when
you know. Would you say that there's another there's another
character in season one that you relate most to, like Willow,
and I like.

Speaker 2 (02:00:20):
There's like pieces of the characters that I relate to. Yeah,
and obviously, like I love these characters, like I adore Buffy.
I don't think that I'm very similar to her, which
like sucks. I'd love to be, but like I don't,
so I don't know.

Speaker 1 (02:00:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:00:44):
You know.

Speaker 1 (02:00:44):
My favorite part of this entire podcast, literally ever, every
minute of the podcast we've ever done, is I had
a panic attack one time during a minisode and someone asks, like,
what character we were most Like, I'm literally gonna cry.
I was like, I think I'm the character we don't know,
but I want to be Buffy so bad. And then

(02:01:04):
you told me that you that I was, and I
was like, that's my best guy in the world. Then
by it, well, thank you. No, seriously, I know I
love her. I want to be her so bad, and
she genuinely is my inspose, So any any similarity or
just is fabricated because I've copied my personality from her

(02:01:25):
since I was eleven.

Speaker 2 (02:01:28):
No, it's because you're bad ass, because you're a girl's
girl and you're a badass.

Speaker 5 (02:01:32):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (02:01:33):
I like would say, I'm kind of like, should I
say Cordelia, but like, I think you should say Cordelia.
I'm going to say it, but I don't know how
true that is of me. I think the one we
don't know is just a better yeah, yeah, but maybe

(02:01:54):
I don't know. Maybe Cordelia Okay, but the one we
don't know yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:02:00):
Oh my god, you guys. These emails they were Seriously
these are these emails were awesome. I loved reading them,
and thank you so much for sending us your thoughts.
Thank you so much to everyone who's watching with us,
who's watching for the first time, who's watching, who's watching
the show for the millions time, who you know is
just listening to us chat. Thank you so much for

(02:02:21):
being here. Your attention means the world to me. Your
time is incredibly precious, and thank you for spending it
with us on the show. That is so beautiful and
I'm so glad that we can share it with each
other and kick ass. I love you guys. Thank you
so much for all your thoughts. Let's kick things off
with some maybe let's finish things off, that's what I
mean with some superlatives.

Speaker 2 (02:02:44):
All Right, we're here to talk about Chris Ross. I
to talk about the best and worst of Buffy's usual.

Speaker 1 (02:02:56):
The gayest and straightest, the.

Speaker 2 (02:02:58):
Gayest and straightest of Buffy. Do them one? Do you
want to start with gayest and straightest parts?

Speaker 5 (02:03:02):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (02:03:02):
Yeah, let's do it.

Speaker 2 (02:03:04):
Okay, So first up, we're gonna share. Maybe do we
do straightest first or gayest first?

Speaker 1 (02:03:10):
Of course, let's do straightest first.

Speaker 2 (02:03:12):
Okay. So we're gonna talk about our straightest moment of
season one and then our gayest moment of season one.

Speaker 7 (02:03:19):
Okay, yeah, mine's not funny.

Speaker 2 (02:03:23):
Oh, you just need to vote with your conscience.

Speaker 1 (02:03:25):
Okay, my conscience is. My straightest moment is that a
three hundred year old vampire is dating a sixteen year old.

Speaker 2 (02:03:34):
Girl. I hate to tell you, but that is also
gay man coded, but is it?

Speaker 7 (02:03:40):
Hey, yeah, that's cool too. Oh no, it's not cool.

Speaker 1 (02:03:43):
But yeah, oh and that's not cool too.

Speaker 2 (02:03:47):
I'm not here to be like the age gap police,
but if one of you is a minor, I am
here to be the age gap police.

Speaker 1 (02:03:53):
I'm actually just gonna call the real police. Yes, continue, yeah,
I just think that, like, come on, what's that about?
Come on, what's that about? And not that I don't
like vampire media. I understand where this is coming from,
but I think Angel is a pretty straight character to me.
Oh yeah, and that that whole thing goes pretty straight.

(02:04:17):
I mean the drama that's pretty gay, but I mean
the you know what's going on, Angel pretty straight.

Speaker 2 (02:04:25):
I will say, Mmm, it is heavily suggested that Angel
in his two hundred years on Earth.

Speaker 1 (02:04:38):
Well, of course, of course, I mean it's every vampire
would be so boring to stick to my gender.

Speaker 2 (02:04:44):
Yeah, yeah, well of course.

Speaker 1 (02:04:47):
I mean we'll talk about that more. I will say it,
but I mean Angel as we know it, David Boreanas.

Speaker 2 (02:04:52):
Yes, the Angel in the present day is very straight.

Speaker 1 (02:04:56):
Yeah, I agree, And I mean we all sorry, I mean,
and of course, I mean that would be That's I'm
telling you, guys, if you turn into a vampire, you
live hundreds of.

Speaker 2 (02:05:05):
Years on this, you better be bisexual. Oh my god.

Speaker 1 (02:05:08):
Like if you're fully gay, if you're fully straight, throw
them both out the window. I'm telling you it's time
to be by.

Speaker 2 (02:05:15):
I agree. Come on, grew up a bit, we got this.

Speaker 1 (02:05:20):
Oh my god, what is gender when you've got centuries?

Speaker 2 (02:05:24):
I'm telling you, Ugh, Okay, my straightest bit my straightest part.
I was trying to like think of a specific moment,
and I was having a hard time coming up with one.
But I put anytime Xander puts down one of Buffy's

(02:05:44):
romantic interests as my straightest part.

Speaker 1 (02:05:46):
Oh sure, oh yeah, oh.

Speaker 2 (02:05:48):
Yeah, the like nice guy having a crush on his
female friend who it's unrequired me eight times straight. And
it also specifically I feel like, not all, but a
lot a lot of queer people, it would be like,
will you like that guy? Well, then who cares like you?
And I can also hook up. Queer people are so
much less about like you are strictly in this pair. No,

(02:06:09):
totally the idea of like, oh you like this person
and therefore I'm fully out of the picture.

Speaker 1 (02:06:14):
Yeah yeah, that's so interesting too, because I have on
my gayest my gayest list, I have a little list
is an incestuous friend group that is all fucking each
other and pining for the other one, you know what
I mean?

Speaker 3 (02:06:30):
So wild.

Speaker 1 (02:06:31):
I think I agree that Xander shutting Buffy down and
bullying her for even liking another boy is straight. The
incestuousness of a friend group is more is gay.

Speaker 2 (02:06:44):
And there were a few toxic Xander moments that I
consider putting the straightest part, but I was like, I
need to be honest with myself and like, men are men,
and I actually know gay men that do this. They
just don't do it to women, they do it to
other men. But I was like, the idea of because
is my love interest, like to the person I have
no shot, Yeah, is more traditionally straight than queer. Yeah

(02:07:11):
heck gass. So now we're doing gayest part.

Speaker 1 (02:07:13):
Yeah, let's do it.

Speaker 2 (02:07:14):
With your whole list.

Speaker 1 (02:07:15):
Okay, yeah, well okay, so it's that. And then I said,
a dominant woman telling the librarian what to do.

Speaker 3 (02:07:26):
Wait, said start with this, this is the best.

Speaker 2 (02:07:28):
Continue, it's all downhill from here.

Speaker 1 (02:07:32):
And then I said, a tiny blonde running her friend
group like.

Speaker 13 (02:07:34):
The Navy, like giving them all jobs, employing them.

Speaker 2 (02:07:47):
Hell yeah, yeah, hell yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:07:50):
Okay, it's what's your gayest part of season?

Speaker 2 (02:07:53):
My gayest part was when Darla has the pistols tits up.
That was my gayest part.

Speaker 1 (02:07:58):
Pretty gay, that's pretty I love that.

Speaker 2 (02:08:01):
I don't know, I just was so tickled by that.
It was so camp and it's an armed and dangerous woman,
which is yeah, she's strapped. Yeah, she's strapped. She scramped.
What next?

Speaker 9 (02:08:16):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (02:08:17):
Worst monster of the week? Best monster of the week.
It okay, worst monster of the week.

Speaker 1 (02:08:22):
The pack obviously, the pack, the pack, the pack, the pack. Obviously,
I'm gonna kill them.

Speaker 2 (02:08:28):
I was caught between the pack and pork and beans.
I'm sorry, I know.

Speaker 1 (02:08:33):
Really the pork and beans was at least like compelling.

Speaker 2 (02:08:38):
It was a and I can't I can't emphasize this enough.
The pack ate a man. Yeah, I hate them, like
crawling on all fours and like growling and barking. It
was so silly to me that I do think it
saves them from the last spot. And I think pork and.

Speaker 1 (02:08:57):
Beans and that's so funny because my best monster and
I'm just kidding, no, I'm not serious. It's like what
I know, Oh my god, what is your what's your
best monster? And why is it? She mantis?

Speaker 2 (02:09:19):
I literally was like I have to put it as
claim because everyone's gonna think I'm like pro you know,
she's a predator. She's just a sexual predator. She's grooming
a teenage boy. But she's my best monster.

Speaker 1 (02:09:35):
Sister. You're gonna love this what I put her too yeah,
mostly because I love the puppets so much.

Speaker 2 (02:09:42):
I thought it was so Yes. No, that's a big
part of it for me is that puppet is. The
puppet was awesome, ridiculous. I love it. Her turning her
head all the way around is dumbest shit. I love it.
Her having a South African accent does also take it
up to the top, over the top, and her little bob. Yeah,
I was really in to it.

Speaker 1 (02:10:00):
I thought about saying Malick because he puts the buy
in bitch, and I like Malick. I thought that was fun.
But I mean the Shemanta's puppet, O, my god, I
had to. I mean, like, obviously she mantas she sucks,
but I mean her puppet is so beautiful and that
woman is gorg Gina.

Speaker 2 (02:10:20):
I literally was prepping myself to like give a prepared statement.

Speaker 1 (02:10:24):
Oh gosh, I know you're going to say it. They'd
be in the streets from you, from me, or like
people from the future coming to.

Speaker 2 (02:10:32):
You, people from the future getting all mad at me.

Speaker 1 (02:10:35):
Yeah, I hear you, which maybe they will.

Speaker 2 (02:10:37):
Hey, pretend everyone, I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (02:10:39):
It's pretend. Okay, should we do?

Speaker 2 (02:10:42):
I think favorite Buffy speak now. I think with episode.

Speaker 1 (02:10:45):
Yeah, this one was tough. This one was tough for me.
I have like a little list. I love when during Angel,
when Willow is watching Angel and Buffy makeout, and then
Xander is setting with his back to them, and then
he goes what's going on, and she goes nothing, and

(02:11:05):
then he goes, well, as long as they're not kissing,
like they don't have they don't see any g's. The
whole time, I just thought that was so funny. I
don't even know if that's necessarily Buffy speak, but the
way that they say it is very funny and quippy
and quick, like, as long as we're not kissing kissing
I will also says something like the creep factor is
also heightened, and then the oh, and then when she

(02:11:28):
says gives me the wig yes, and then also come on,
you guys, come on now. The end is pretty seriously nice.

Speaker 2 (02:11:37):
Girl, that's my winner. No, seriously, I feel cheap because
we just quoted this last week again, but genuinely I agree.
I think it's perfect Buffy speaking. It is exactly the
vibe of the show, which is the world is ending,
but also we're gonna be a little silly and casual
about it. Exact. Yeah, we're gonna be a little cheeky

(02:11:58):
about it. Yeah, all these showed to me that the
end is pretty seriously seriously, I am obsessed with that quote. Yeah,
it's a perfect quote and it deserves it's it's top spot. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:12:10):
Absolutely, it's awesome, It's perfect. I also I want to
shout out some some outfits.

Speaker 2 (02:12:16):
Oh, hell yeah, Lena's fashion corner, a.

Speaker 1 (02:12:18):
Lina's fashion corner. My two favorite outfits from season one
are both Buffies.

Speaker 2 (02:12:23):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (02:12:24):
I feel like like Cordelia's got some awesome outfits, Willow's
got some really cute outfits, but Buffy, they really went
all out for her, like.

Speaker 2 (02:12:35):
One of them, the I Rob about you Jane cheetah dress.

Speaker 1 (02:12:41):
No, oh yeah, it is the leopard print dress that
she wears a puppet show with the ponytail and the
tall black boots, and then she wears the the the
leather jacket.

Speaker 2 (02:12:56):
That's what I'm thinking of. Maybe I'm getting the episodes up.

Speaker 1 (02:12:59):
Where's other animal print in?

Speaker 2 (02:13:02):
Ohane? I Jane, she wears like a cheetah coat coat.
But I am in my mind, I am thinking of
what you're saying.

Speaker 1 (02:13:10):
That is maybe one of my favorite Buffy outfits period ever,
ever her period. I love that that outfit. I also
have to shout out her white dress obviously, and then
I love the blue dress that she wears. Is that

(02:13:31):
I roll about you, Jane? At the end of her
I roll about Udrine Jane, She's wearing like this little
blue dress plus tall black boots again, plus these little
red sunglasses.

Speaker 2 (02:13:42):
During the We're all Gonna dialog.

Speaker 1 (02:13:43):
Yes, I love that outfit. Those are my favorite Buffy
outfits from this season. Oh but maybe my favorite Buffy
outfit literally of all time is the hair piece plus
the leper dress plus the boots plus the jacket. Come
on now, I'm come on you guys. No seriously, hell yeah?

Speaker 7 (02:14:03):
Hell yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:14:04):
Okay, best worst episode?

Speaker 2 (02:14:05):
All right, worst episode?

Speaker 1 (02:14:07):
Worst episode for me? The Pack? No listen, listen. I
didn't even like hate the Pack that much. I thought
all these episodes were more great than I ever imagined
they ever could be, and I loved them. I don't know, no,
but genuinely, like, I was so surprised at how much
I enjoyed so many of these episodes. But the Pack,
to me, not my episode, not my episode, not my episode.

(02:14:32):
What's your worst episode?

Speaker 2 (02:14:34):
I wrote about you Jane once. Akay, Yeah, the pack
is saved by the fact that those kids ate their
principal and they were on all fours growling and barking. Yeah,
like that was so insane.

Speaker 1 (02:14:43):
You loved that.

Speaker 2 (02:14:44):
And even then I wrote about you, Jane, I still
it still like has some charm. Yeah, but it was
the episode I was the least enthralled with in this season. Yeah, now,
best episode.

Speaker 1 (02:15:00):
I mean, obviously, come on now, it's Prophecy Girl.

Speaker 2 (02:15:03):
Yeah. I was going to try and do a bit
where we said one, two three, and then I would
say a different episode the girl. I'm sorry, okay, I
mean two, two three, never his day. Oh I love
porkan beans. No, Prophecy Girl. Absolutely, it's no contest. It's like, frankly,

(02:15:26):
not a fair fight. No, she's in a completely different
weight class than the rest of the episode.

Speaker 1 (02:15:31):
They brought a knife to a gun fight the rest
of the episodes.

Speaker 2 (02:15:33):
Yes, she brought across bow, and she brought across bow
and she came back from the dead. That episode rules.
It's so good.

Speaker 1 (02:15:43):
I was thinking, like, if you were to I kept
trying to guess what you were gonna I'm gonna say
and if you yeah, if you weren't, no, I know,
but you would have said you loved out of Sight,
out of Mind.

Speaker 2 (02:15:56):
Oh I did. It was my favorite episode up to
that point.

Speaker 1 (02:15:58):
But it's prophecy girl.

Speaker 2 (02:16:00):
It's a provacy girl. No, come on, yeah. Out of side,
out of Mind is like if I want to be
different and like, no, do the predictable choice.

Speaker 1 (02:16:06):
I would say that, yeah, that's yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:16:08):
Yeah, well yeah. Now for the end of our season
wrap up, we are going to have I'll sing a
little song in the back and in memoriam for all
those we lost in season one. We are going through
our forty three duly departed from our master kill count.

Speaker 1 (02:16:28):
In episode one, I had the loss to sing I
am a like hum, I am a child of God?
Will you said? Pack it up?

Speaker 2 (02:16:36):
I won't make no, no.

Speaker 1 (02:16:38):
I'll just be quiet, just some silence.

Speaker 2 (02:16:40):
Okay, No, I think you should sing.

Speaker 1 (02:16:42):
I'm gonna end up singing I am a trial of.

Speaker 2 (02:16:44):
God sing sing in the arms of the Angel.

Speaker 1 (02:16:47):
Oh, perfect, perfect, perfect Oka.

Speaker 2 (02:16:50):

realize that he died. He did die.

Speaker 1 (02:19:29):

not Buffy's Cordelia's boyfriend that she liked to neck in
a cemetery. The Avy Club, which consisted of two boys

(02:20:28):
