Speaker 1 (00:00):
In Factor Fiction.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Today is at eleven thirty five, as it is every
weekday on our show. That's our time to do it.
Your chance to win one thousand dollars from the Emerald
Queen Casino, the betting and entertainment capital of the Northwest,
the last time this week you'll have a chance to
win one thousand.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Dollars with us.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
I knew I should win with the Jets or just
stay away from the Jets all together. They won, I know,
and they covered just stay away from all together. That's
one to know for me this week.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
I knew it. I knew it.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
I should just went with it. One was not good
because I was like, you know what, let me take them.
And then I said, no, I'll go with the different games.
Oh see, hopefully it all works out and I go
to and.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Oh yeah, hopefully. Garrett Wilson last night man catch of
the year. That's what everyone's saying, Catch of the year.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
I don't see anyone else that's going to do anything
better than that. That was I knew it was a
catch as soon as he stood up. When he stood
up as our celebrating, I was like, he caught that.
I ain't needsy to replay. He is that good that
he knows he got his feet, his shin down. Yeah,
that was incredible.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Well, now it's every frame by frame refewed. Used to
be was that incomplete past, no matter what they would say.
Now his knee was out of balance, oldest shouldnt hit
before the knee. I mean that counts. That's what the
league has become. But yeah, it never used to be
that way.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
It does count.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Eleven forty five e infnessl join us before his show
from twelve to three, as he does every day, headline
strut you by Frost Food, Corslight, Chuo's Chill. DK Metcalf
did not practice yesterday, day after coach Mike McDonald was
quote optimistic Metcalf would practice. Coach has used the same
word this week about Metcalf playing Sunday when the Seahawks
play the Rams at Lumenfield on twenty five Sunday kickoff
(01:33):
on Channel thirteen TV locally. That new issue for Devin Witherspoon,
the foot injury that he missed practice on Wednesday, Well,
he's full go. Yesterday he was a full participant in practice,
so he's on track to start on Sunday. George Fan
has been a limited practice participant in each of the
two practices Wednesday and Thursday, but he's poised to start
(01:54):
at right tackle. I think he's going to start Sunday
at right tackle for the first time since Week one,
when he did it, injured his knee and went on
injured reserve. It's been Mike Girell, the rookie six round pick,
at right tackle the last two games. Of those first
two games in the NFL, he did better in the
debut in Atlanta than he did against Buffalo last week.
Of course, nobody really did anything against Buffalo last week
except lose McDonald and offensive corner Ryan Grubb say it's
(02:18):
time for Anthony Bradford to start and play the entire
game at right guards Sunday. No more rotation with rookie
Christian Haynes. They're trying to get to some continuity in
the offensive line. Grub brought up the point that it's
probably not I think he used the word probably. We
didn't have to probably not helping center Connor Williams to
be rotating guards.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Next to him.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Oh, it took him eight games to figure that out,
I guess. But ran you'll hear Ryan Grubb talking about
that and more in our next segment. The Kracking last
night fell behind three to zero early and it stayed
that way until very late when they scored in a
three to one loss of Toronto. Joey to Kord started
his third straight game and goals, so that rotation they
had the first eight games of him and Grubauer is
(02:57):
no more. It's like the Cord has been their shows
and starter. Now they're going to go with him for
a while. Cracking five to five and one. They're at
Ottawa Tomorrow night, six to thirty pre game show with
Mike Betton, four pm game time. It's gonna be on
nine to fifty KJR AM because we got the Husky
football game on FM. Then The Crack and Sunday Quick
Turnaround Saturday night in Ottawa. Sunday afternoon in Boston one
(03:20):
thirty pregame show with Mike ben two pm puck drop
Cracking at Bruins Here on your home with the Crack
at ninety three point three kJ RFM. The Sounders play
Game two of the MLS Playoffs, Best of three first
Round at Houston Sunday three point thirty. That's on the
AM side because pucks will be on the FM side,
Seattle won Game one, can advance with a win on Sunday.
If they don't win Game three, it'll be a week
(03:40):
from Sunday back at Lumen Field. That can play at
Lumenfield on Sunday because the Seahawks will be on their
bye week next Sunday, that is nine days from now.
As I said, the Huskies they're four and four, two
and three in a Big Ten. They host usc who's
four and four and two and three in a Big
ten Tomorrow four thirty kickoff here on ninety three point
three KJRFM with the Husky Hawks pregame show day Softy
Maller in the Gang from the Zone at Husky Stadium
(04:03):
starting at twelve thirty here on KJR. Washington State Cougars
are off this weekend. Seven and one, ranked twenty second
right behind Army KU's have the week off until Utah
State comes to Pullman November ninth, and those under twenty
first Dragged Army Cadets host one and six Air Force
tomorrow nine am at West Point the Commander in Chiefs
Trophy Game. If you don't know what that is, the
(04:25):
round robin between Army, Navy and Air Force Navy's already
beating Air Force.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Now Army gets to play Air Force. If they all
beat each other, they split it.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
And it has happened, not a lot, but it has
happened occasionally. But if Army wins tomorrow, the winner of
the Army Navy game will be for the Commander in
Chiefs Trophy, the one that's December thirteenth. It could still
be that Army and Navy play in the American Athletic
Conference Championship game on December seventh and again, or December
sixth and then again on December thirteenth. I bet people
(04:58):
in Seattle radio had no idea that we're going to
learned so much about military academy athletics.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
That's what someone in the text line is like, Greg,
we understand, we get it.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
I don't know. You don't don't think people do. I
don't think people care. But that's okay. You hire a
military academy graduate the host of radio show. They goes
seven to ozho for the first time in the generation.
Well here we go, Seahawks coach Mike McDonald speaking in
the military. Is the Seahawks nominee for the NFL's USAA
Salute to Service Award for two thousand and twenty four.
(05:31):
I just found out this this morning in a release
that USAA sent me a news release, and I can't
believe I didn't know this, and I don't know how
it hasn't come up yet. Mike McDonald's father is a
west Point graduate, according to the release. I've read stories
and background about his father and how he got him
started in football and the discipline, but it's today. It
(05:53):
was the first time I realized his father was a
west Point graduate. I knew I like Mike McDonald for
some reason.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
How he was raised. There's a catch, that's how he
was raised.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
I mean McDonald doesn't talk about that. He's never mentioned
it to us or to me and I were all
kinds of west Point and talking.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
I have to ask him about it now.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
I'm definitely gonna ask him about today. As a matter
of fact, how do I How did I not know
until today in a news release?
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Because you've been excited about how well how different he
is from Pete Carroll, there's just so much other stuff
that you didn't think.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
You know, what, what about your your.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Family, your parents, your dad, and look at that closer
to home than you thought Greg.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
I'm really surprised.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah, and you can now that it makes sense because
you see it in practice that time that I told
you he threw three guy four or five mark.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Eight rookies that who had left the field early till
back the layers. You're like, how did I not see
this before?
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yeah, and I'm just kind of like how anyway, Yeah,
the the award is USAA in the NFL, they do
it in conjunction for November, which is Military Appreciation Salute
the Service.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Month in the league.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
And what a couple of things that Mike McDonald's done
military oriented wise. One of the practice I think we
mentioned it at the time in training camp, one of
the practices he he canceled practice and just said we're
going to Joint Base Lewis McCord today, guys.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
That's when they're holding up all the big guns, right.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
And a bunch of fans got mad about Seawk fans
or Seek players getting holding weapons military weapons. Some people did.
They thought it was a bad look.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
All right, This wasn't down at the street corner.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
This is this is at a base, a special forces unit,
probably the apes of things.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
And you're worried about Okay, Well, I see where we're at. Yeah,
exactly what they guns.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
He had Navy Blue Angels pilots during Seafair come to
training camp.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Oh yeah, when they were and T shirts and yeah,
we're not gonna get in Oh that practice. Yeah, I
felt bad.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
The Naval officers were kind of looking at what this
is an NFL team? T shirts and bucket haeas.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Give me a what's up? I can go out there
and do the same thing. Yeah, they were surprise. He's
also had the.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Some Army rangers have come to practice and they've talked training,
and he's met with them after practice. Some of the
things he's done. Uh. Anyway, now I've got a whole
different realm to go talk to Mike.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Ask him when he plans on bringing the OZ to
Seahawks play practice from Baltimore. I don't know where he's from,
but I'm sure you heard him, the magic dude that
always does the crazy, crazy tricks and everything. You've heard
of the OZ. Hope, I'm ope it's the OS he's
been on. He's been with the Jets. No, he's been
a bunch of training camp. Don't bring anything from the
Jets into the Seahawks. Just it won't go well.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
It just won't go well.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
As soon as you say Jets, like, nope, don't do.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
It, don't do it, Okay, never mind, Then.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
No, I don't. I don't know what you're talking about
with the Oz thing.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
But maybe I'm saying his name wrong. But he is
he is good at just he's a trickster, I'll put
it that way. But he is entertaining, entertaining the players. Yes,
as soon as you said Jets, I was off. Okay, Yeah,
anything with j Ets, don't bring up because Greg is
not in.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Well, who could be?
Speaker 2 (09:16):
They won last night. Well there's three and six, now, yeah,
that's true. Well they beat the Seahawks. Done, done, done.
December first week, first Sunday of December. I think it's
December first in the Meadowlands Seahawks at Jets.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Geno Smith talked yesterday.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Let's go to that, Chris. Geno Smith talked yesterday. I
asked him what Ian and I have been talking about
his body language on the sidelines and his emotions in
particular in the Buffalo game. And I spent the whole
press conference trying to figure out how to couch this
question get him to answer it. This is my attempt anyway,
And this is what he had to say.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Just losing, that's the main thing. I'm really not a
great loser.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
It sucks. I hate it overall.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
When I watch myself, hey man, just continue to uplift
the guys, and you know, if I'm being do a
better job at times when we're down. Those are things
that I'm constantly improving. I'm not gonna say I'm perfect
at it. I'm very emotional when it comes to winning,
when it comes to doing the right thing, and so
at times I let my emotion show. Whether that's good
or bad, I guess that's a personal opinion. But you know,
(10:16):
I'm gonna be myself at all times, and so I
want to continue to bring that fire to our to
our offense. I want to continue to be competitive and
not in a bad way, but in a good way.
And so it's always a fine line that you gotta walk.
But I gotta be careful with making, you know, too,
any mistakes in that area.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
How difficult is it to be genuine and a competitor
but not be fake, raw, raw and positive when it's
not going well.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
I don't think it's difficult.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
I think everyone is themselves and I think as long
as you're being yourself, I think it's fine. Like I said,
if it becomes something that you're going overboard or it's
a hinderance to your team or you're you know, you're
hurting the team, then that's the problem.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
But otherwise, you know, just be yourself.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
The guys, like, when I let my emotion show, I'm
just valuating myself and saying, hey, I can be better
in this area. And so those are things that I'm
trying to improve on.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
In what way were you not better that? Well, I
got a penalty.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
Those are things that I can't have happen.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
And then obviously, like everyone's watching me, right, so if
I'm upset, they get a little antsy, right, So I
just got to have a better poker face.
Speaker 5 (11:14):
Just work on it.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
He assume the penalty was because that guy shoved you
under the chin right out of balance.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
And yeah, yeah, I was pretty upset at that, but
again ref didn't call it.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
Hey, move on to the next place.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
So that's Geno Smith yesterday admitting that he's got to
be better on his emotions when things aren't going well.
And really that's the definition of leadership. And I think
a lot of the times the definition of a person's character.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
It's great to be rob rob leader's support.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Pat on the back when things are going well. Pretty
much anyone can do that. Who can do it when
it's not going well? Who's going to be the person
that stems the tide and turns the attitude of those
he's leading around when all hell's breaking loose and not
losing a football game is not quite all hell breaking loose,
but in their realm and what they do for a living,
it is. And during the game against Buffalo, he knew
(12:05):
what I was referencing about the emotions. There was a
shot that Fox Television had zoomed in on him where
it looked like he was crying on the bench, and
they showed it right after he threw the interception on
the screen pass to the defensive tackle. And in sports
in particular, and most walks a light, but in sports,
(12:25):
for sure, the teammates, especially the younger teammates, looked to
their leader at times of adversity and things aren't going right.
And you can bet that a bunch of guys were
looking down, up and down the benches at Smith when
he sat down on the bench after that interception and
Russell Wilson, you can say what he did, whether it's
manufactured or whether it was fake. He was consistent even
(12:50):
when he ate some egregious mistakes. He was consistent on
his body language and slapping guys in the back coming
back from an interception. He'd be clapping his hands on
the sidelines, even if it was his fault, and because
he knew all eyes were on him, and some of
it was fake. And that's why I asked the question
about manufactured fake when times aren't going well, because Russell
(13:12):
Wilson's was almost orchestrated and active upon it and it
was almost an act. But Wilson knew that everyone was
looking at him. Smith seems to know that and realizes
that he as he said in his words, he has
to get better at this. Chris the underlying thing to
all of this, And I don't know how to ask
it in a press conference setting. It's something I'd probably
(13:32):
should ask him one on one. He's playing for his
contract this year. His contract doesn't end after this season,
but the Seahawks' decision on it is going to be
based on this season, because if they want to resign
him beyond his contract ending after the twenty twenty five season.
They will make that choice before next year. Else he's
going to be a lame duck going into the final
year of his deal, and then he's opened the market
(13:55):
for anybody in the league. This could be his final
season to prove he's work big multi year contracts in
the league. He's thirty five years old next year. There
is an underlying tenor to everything that's going He already
went to the team before this season asked for an
extension and they said it's too early. Check back next year.
They don't do as we've talked about many times, this
(14:16):
John Schneider way is to re up guys going into
the final years of their duales, not into two years
left on the deals. So Smith is playing each week
to show the Seahawks forget this, Sam, how you traded
for and forget draft and a guy.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
I'm your guy. And so when it doesn't go.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
That way, I think that is the back of his
mind that he knows this is his long term future
being determined this season. Again, there's a nuance to how
we interview and relate to the players we'd speak to
every day. I just can't come out in a press
conference with the cameras roll in and say that and
ask him, do you feel the pressure of your future
(14:53):
and your contract. He's not going to answer that question
there in that setting, but it will come up and
before the end of the season that will be something
I'm gonna have to ask him in some kind of way,
probably not in that forum, but some way. But I
think that is the background to all of this, and
he feels it, he knows it. He also says right
(15:14):
there that he needs to get better at it. His
coaches say the same thing. You're gonna hear next from
Ryan Grubb, the offensive cordiner and play caller. I asked
Grub the same quite well, not the same question, but
the same subject, what he feels about the emotions of
his quarterback when things aren't going well.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
You're gonna hear.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
From Ryan Grubb next at eleven o'clock. You're gonna hear
from Chris Francis, Fox thirteen, Seattle, eleven thirty five.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Factor fixtion your.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Chance to win one thousand dollars from The Emerald Queen
Casino eleven thirty. We'll readback your text to tell them.
We'll do text line. I know that Pete Carroll had
taken them to military. Most times the military came to
the Seahawks. I was there, so I understand it's people hexling.
Well Carol did this too, Yes he did, but most
times he had him in. He rarely canceled a practice
and took them all on surprise to join Bace Lewis McCord.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
That was my point. Welcome back on.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
A Washington State Beef Commissions Football Friday, Greg Bell and
Christopher Kidd at the Elliott Base Studios and not quite
sunny Seattle. It's November now we'll see the sun again.
I guess in February, March maybe, but it is full
on football and Washington State Beef Commission's Football Friday. Huskies
(16:31):
are in town. They play a USC Tomorrow four thirty
at Husky Stadium. Twelve thirty pre game show with Dave
Softy Muller and the Husky Hawks here on ninety three
point three KJR FM. The Seahawks are home. It's a
Sunday one twenty five pm kickoff against the Rams, their
final game before their only bye week of the season. Yesterday,
Ryan Grubbs spoke to the media, spoke to me and
(16:52):
my colleagues at renting right after practice, and we talked
about a range of things offense, running game continuity, and
the offensive line and Gino Smith's emotions. This is Ryan Grubb,
the offensive coordinator for the Seahawks.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
But Mike was talking about the run game put This
was on Monday, and mentioned things like details and targeting,
what hadn't been where you guys wanted to be.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Why do you think those things are where they are
right now?
Speaker 6 (17:16):
Well, I think we're just trying to gel up front
a little bit and make sure our points and our
counts are consistent. And I think, honestly, there was quite
a few runs that obviously didn't hit that points were good,
they were on target, and you know, for whatever reason,
point of attack, there's a few critical plays that we
just you know, messed up on that we're one back.
Speaker 5 (17:35):
So those are the details that we got to hammer out.
Speaker 6 (17:37):
I think that the consistency part, who's doing what jobs,
those kind.
Speaker 5 (17:41):
Of things that think can help clean that up without.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
Giving secrets away.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
When you mean points, what do you mean by.
Speaker 6 (17:46):
That is that just where there's where we're pointing the
target on the run.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
How big would the continuity on the line piece be
once you get aid back, once you settle on our
right guard.
Speaker 6 (17:54):
I mean, you could argue we'd be starting over there's
a piece there, But we've obviously played a lot of
different tackles and we're continuing to try to work guys
back in that are getting healthy, and so I think
that that's kind of the nature of the Beast, honestly,
So I think that we can't hide behind that, and
whatever the continuity is for the week, and whoever's going
to be in there, they got to gel, you know,
before Sunday, And that's just the reality of what offensive
(18:17):
line play is. And I think the guys are working
really hard to make sure that that happens, and so
we're as coaches trying to make sure we can get
things as friction free as possible for them in.
Speaker 5 (18:25):
The red zone.
Speaker 7 (18:26):
Is there a balance of being patient and yet being
aggressive or you'd actually flip the script being not too aggressive.
Speaker 6 (18:34):
I think it depends what you're seeing on film, of course,
what the defense has given you, and what you think
you can take advantage of. So if there's something that
whether it's a mismatch on a personnel situation that you
can go after, or if you think that it's a
type of scheme you can hit. I think it's different
for every defense.
Speaker 7 (18:50):
When you get down there in the red zone and
the execution, then how then do you make that a
must without press Yeah, I think you know, we do
a good job here at Mike emphasize that and has
since I've gotten here. We've always practiced red zone almost
every day, and I think that that's one of the
things that Mike does a good job of is putting
emphasis on that. Obviously, we haven't seen the complete fruits
(19:11):
of our labor. There's been times we've been really really good,
but we just got to finish with more touchdowns in
the red zone, obviously, and that's that's the goal, right
Like it was a challenge.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
To get the ball as getting down the field, Dcor.
Speaker 6 (19:24):
Was that something that the field was just Obviously we
want DK anytime we can have him in there. He
obviously changes the complexity of the football game. But I
also think that I think we had seven or eighty completions.
I think it was more just a part of us
not staying on the field in general, just getting first downs,
staying out there sustaining drives. I think, more than anything,
(19:44):
it was that, you know. Obviously, Geno's completion percentage wasn't
now bad. It was probably above seventy. I'm not sure
what it was, but it wasn't like we were inefficient.
We just we couldn't sustain drives. It was tough to
get in a groove. And we just never found our rhythm,
which was the first time I thought all season that
we hadn't. It didn't matter what game it was prior
to this one, the Buffalo game. At some point we
(20:06):
caught our rhythm and we took off and we were
able to advance the ball against anyone. So this was
a little bit uncharted territory and it was just a
tough game.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
How do you assess Geno Smith's emotional side of his game.
Speaker 6 (20:19):
I mean, Gino has to manage that. I think that
that's something that you'd never want to take away from
his competitive spirit. And I kind of said the same
thing about DK. And obviously for Gino, he knows he
has to temperature that he has to operate at effectively.
But I also think if you don't, you know, let
him work through those things. Just that's who he is,
you know, he's a fiery guy and he's competitive. It
(20:40):
means a lot to him. He's in this building a
lot prepared, his butt off, and someone that's not going right.
He gets frustrated at times, but I think, you know
my experience with Gino, he's done a good job being
able to get himself to where he can be a
good decision maker and do the things that he has
to be an elite, you know, NFL quarterback, and he
knows that. That's the biggest part is he can't allow
(21:00):
himself to go too far down the road and and
start making bad decisions and things like that because he's
not in the right frame of mind. So I've never
had an issue with him on that. He's done a
good job of managing it.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
Do you want that in your quarterback or instead of.
Speaker 6 (21:15):
A sign I would always rather have a guy that's
got some competitive juices instead of having to poke him
out of the shoots, so to speak. But I do
think there's something to be said about quarterbacks that can
maintain their composure in the biggest moments. You certainly don't
want guys that play through the roof. And I don't
think you know, every time I've seen Geno go out there,
I think there's a confidence and energy that he brings.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
But I do think he has the ability to stay composed.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
You know, and I think for Gino he knows the
challenge for him and for anybody when things aren't going
right is to bring positive energy. You know, that's the
toughest part. I mean coaches too, like it's not going right,
it's frustrating. It's the toughest game we've had an offense
and finding a way to be the spark both emotionally
and just how you're carrying yourself to get the team
from point A to point B.
Speaker 5 (21:59):
And sometimes that can be tough to see the forest
through the trees for any of us.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Sometimes I think when we look at the offensive, doesn't
seem to be this one thing or the other. It's
just something that does that make it more frustrating.
Speaker 6 (22:13):
Because the hips make Yeah no, it's not encouraging. Yeah no,
there's been I think it's it's a great way to
say we've had We've had so many positives, honestly in
this offense this season, and you know, that was that
was one of the things that we talked about, you know,
obviously after the game, and you have to find ways to.
Speaker 5 (22:37):
Get all of those things that.
Speaker 6 (22:38):
Are going well and just dial in, you know, what
is it that we're really good at obviously, and catch
that in the bottle, you know, and and spread it
out during the week in practice.
Speaker 5 (22:48):
And so we've really worked hard to try to.
Speaker 6 (22:50):
Simulate those things that that we think we're successful at
and uh, you know, die and dive.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
Into the details, honestly.
Speaker 6 (22:56):
And for our guys, they know that we've had moments
that that have been it just feels like nobody can
stop us. And then there's the times like the Buffalo game,
where the inconsistency just absolutely cripples us. So the part
we try to focus on is being consistently great. And
you know, for us, it's coming out to practice executing
the things that we know we can be good at,
(23:17):
and the guys are they're diving into that work.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
What do you think is in the biggest reason for
how many third and love.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
Can be well?
Speaker 6 (23:24):
Lack of efficiency on first down will kill you. And
then the penalties, you know, for us, I mean, one
of the you know goals this week is just no
negative yardage plays. I mean that's just for any offense.
We're not exclusive to that club, but you start getting
behind the sticks, and you give defenses opportunities to get
to all their creative calls and the things where they
can play you know, a little bit more risky calls
(23:45):
and things like that as typical defenses do. That's where
you just expose yourself to some situations that you don't
want to be in.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
Well, you mentioned the point of attack stuff with the
R game. Would you say that's a bigger issue than
some of.
Speaker 5 (23:58):
The targeting and stuff. No, I think it's both. It's equal.
Speaker 6 (24:01):
I mean, you picked the play and you know, you
decide on on the lesser of two evils. But I
don't think either one of those has shown up more
or less than the other. It's been just a consistency issues.
So I think that that's been something the guys have
done a great job of this week throughout practice is
being more consistent on that and they're working through it.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
Mentioned as when he said roll with a.
Speaker 6 (24:24):
B yep yep ab is, I think especially the last game,
he's proven that he's our starting right guard, and you
know it would be good to go into the game
and let counter feel good about you know, the guys
are gonna be next to him and have a consistent lineup.
Speaker 5 (24:38):
He's just improving.
Speaker 6 (24:39):
I thought he did a better job finishing, his execution
was better, and he had a really good week of practice.
I thought that was something that that showed up in
the game. I mean, he certainly wasn't perfect by any stretch.
He's still working through stuff as a young player, but
he's finishing harder, and he's playing with better pad level
and he's starting to live up to some of the
things we think he can do.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
That's Seahawks offensive cornerator play caller Ryan Grubb talking yesterday
following Seahawks practice Sunday. Seahawks rams chance for the Seahawks
to get back above five hundred, stay at top at
least pace with the top of the NFC West. We'll
react to what Ryan Grebs said, what Gino Smith said
about the emotions about the offense. Eleven o'clock Chris Francis
(25:21):
Fox thirteen Seattle Television joins US eleven thirty five factor
fixtion your chance to win one thousand dollars in the room, cleek,
You see the lots more to get to. On the
Washington State Beef Commissions Football Friday on ninety three point three,
kJ RFM. Welcome back, Greg Bell and Christopher Kay with
(25:45):
you on a Washington State Beef Commission Football Friday, brought
to you by Washington Beef and Farmers and Ranchers Beef.
It's what for dinner. Football is what's for weekend. We
also have crack and hockey right in the middle of
it on us. In particular on Sunday, we have NFL
in the morning, then we have Cracking Hockey at Mattinee
and Boston at two o'clock, one thirty pre game show
(26:07):
with Mike Benton two o'clock Cracking Bruins, and then the
Sunday night game right after. So Sandwich of NFL and
hockey on Sunday here on ninety three point three KGRFM. Okay, Chris,
you heard Gino Smith say I got to be better
emotionally when things aren't going well during games. You heard
Ryan Grubb. We get it, he's an emotional player. We
(26:28):
don't want to take that out of him, but yeah,
there's something to be said for keeping your composure at
that position. Where do you think Geno Smith is in
his game? He's leading the league in passing, most attempts,
most yards, maybe most tiers when they're not going well,
they've lost four to the last five.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
Yeah, start with that offensive line.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
Something we can't keep talking, we cannot not talk about,
just because that's what all starts and where it begins.
And if you don't have that solidified, that's why he's upset.
He's like, damn dude, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
My center just snapped at twenty yards over my head.
Speaker 3 (26:59):
You just he's saying, my foot on fourth and goal.
He's saying all the right things. Oh yeah, I watched
the film. The guys are great. I'm like, what in
my head, what are you watching? But I understand that's
what a leader has to do. You got to lead
by example and give the confidence in your offensive lineman
that they can play and be better. And that's what
he's hoping for, and on Sunday they have the opportunity
to do so. So, yes, cameras will be on Gino
(27:20):
because there's going to be a series or a play
or a pass.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
That doesn't go his way. How does he react?
Speaker 3 (27:25):
He said all the right things in the press conference,
because I think this is the first time you guys
actually talked about it. Through eight weeks, no one's ever
talked about it. If I'm not mistaken since then, So
now the cameras will definitely be on him when a
pass gets intercepted or the fumble, or again a negative
play that is on Gino or and the offensive line.
How does Gino now respond? Is he going to be
the fake raw raw kind of like you alluded to
(27:47):
with what Russ did, because yeah, well it might have
been not authentic. The players didn't realize that they're in
the heat of the moment.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
They but yeah, he of the moment, I will say,
And the texture is right about this in two of
six textures brings up a good point. The Seahawks likely
would not have gone to a second consecutive Super Bowl
and beaten Green Bay after being down sixteen to nothing.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
In the chapter, right, he was he was terrible. He
threw four interceptions in that game.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
Yeah, there's and he was on the sidelines up and
down the sideline chat chick chop. Yeah, I distinctly remember that.
And that's a good point from the text line.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
So imagine if Gino had that same bravado against the
Buffalo Bills, not saying they would have won the game.
I don't know that to be true, but maybe there
is a sense of urgency, like we can really do this,
Like we're only down two three possessions, let's get a
stop defensively, and then that builds and then builds and
it builds and next thing, you know, as in that
Green Bay Packers game, in the Nancy Championship game, you're
(28:47):
right back in it. And now we've seen this formation before.
We're going for the end zone and you went on
an amazing play. Now, obviously that's bigger stakes, but to
the Texas point, that's what Russ did, and it's tough
to just flip a switch and do that. That's not
Gino's bag. That's something Gino doesn't really do. He said
that since he was a kid, he cries during football game. Yeah,
(29:08):
and his moms hated it. He probably brought that up
later in the Prescotts. We didn't play that clip, but
he said, I've always been this way. Yeah, I've cried.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
My mom didn't like it. It's I care and I
hate to lose. I'm a bad loser.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
And to be fair, no one likes to lose. It's
very rare that there's people in the NFL like, yeah,
I don't mind losing. Of course, now their body language
is probably not a great example of it if they're
just out there nonchalant because I saw clips of Greek
Woolen not making a great effort on a tackle, or.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
He doesn't care.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
Benjamin, I'm like, well, he does care. We don't know
what happened on the play and why he did that,
but it's not a good look. But I don't think
it's the fact that he doesn't care. I think he
realized there's nothing I can do, so me, you know,
a little shove in the back. Sure, do you want
to want him to risk his body and make a play, Absolutely,
but you move on. You got a new and that's
(30:00):
for Gino as well, a new week. But again, I
don't know if it'll be a flip of the switch
where he's just gonna be.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
He's definitely aware of it now. But yeah, he's aware
of it.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
So I think he'll probably try to tone down his
emotions and that's gonna be.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
That's gonna be a tablet during games. Every want those tablets?
My goodness, I think.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Sidelines I can give everyone, But to be fair, do
what I've seen spiking tablets and throwing a fit.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
They're all champions, they've all been there, won it all.
Not saying that because you're not a champion, you can't
have that type of attitude, But that's how it's gonna
be viewed.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
When Tom Brady slams his tablet, he got six super bowls,
seven super bowls, we get it. He we know what
it takes to he knows what it takes to win,
and Gino's trying to get to that level. And once
he does that, I'm sure everyone will get off his back.
But it does need to change, and just the leadership
is a quarterback because he says all the right things.
He hasn't been in a press conference yet and said
the wrong things and everyone's like, oh, I'm sure Gino
(30:56):
wanted that one back. He hasn't had that. It's just
the on field and that have people going, you know,
great guy, he can play football, but when we need
a leader when things are going bad, he hasn't shown
us that yet. And that's a key component to a
championship team, is it not. You need someone that's your
quarterback that's going to hey, I might have thrown three
(31:17):
picks and two fumbles, but guess what, we still only
down seven.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
The only time public day after game this season. In
three seasons, he's been a starter. That I heard and
saw the frustration was after the San Francisco game when
he said, you saw the film, you watched, go watch
the film.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Okay, okay. To my point was more so he hasn't.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
That was on the DK Betcalf interception night when he
broke the metcalf broke deep and Smith threw it over
the middle on time or not on time, late, but
on schedule, across the middle, and he said, you see
the film, you go watch the film.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
But I don't watch films. You know. I have more
oppressing things non planning.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Interestingly, for a lot of people think that he is
having trouble in the elements. He has four time which
passes in six interceptions at home, four touchdowns and one interception.
On the road, his best games of his career have
been in his Sea Hawks starting career have been inside
in domes on the road Detroit three times, Atlanta the
only win in the last five weeks at New Orleans
(32:17):
in the Superdome a couple years ago. Those have been
his best starts. I don't know there's a correlation there,
If there's a relationship there, but the facts of the
facts that he has four touchdowns and six interceptions in
home games, four touchdowns and one interception of road games,
and two of those road games have been outdoors or
excuse me, indoors, and the other one was in New
England when it was eighty degrees in sunny on a
(32:37):
turf field. Chris France is up next, Fox thirteen Seattle
