(02:08):
everybody why because I burn everything?Yeah? I did set the graveyard on
fire across Memorial just a few times. I think the statute of limitations has
left at this point in time.It wasn't a blaze or anything that's like
that. But it wasn't a blazeat all. Yeah, you almost burned
up the whole, the whole damnplace. But it wasn't that bad.
(02:29):
It's it's a long story, andwe're not going to tell us. No.
It's a good one, that's forsure. It is a good one.
It's a very it's a very goodone for another day. It was
definitely not for leave it to befor I don't know, to show said,
Ward burns down, New York.It is one of my favorite holidays.
Though I do love I do loveexploding things. If my parents got
(02:49):
rest them, were they here?My father is going to kill me as
a kid in Brooklyn because I hadall these ash cans and ferry bombs and
we were firing them off in abig fifty five gallon drum and I literally
blew the clock off the wall inour little apartment and he said that's enough.
He's gonna kill me. Oh boyboy, Hey, two big things
(03:09):
for me though this week? What'sgoing on with it? Hey? You
know I got that? You knowI got my bowling shirt on here and
big testimonial for the bowling alley. My picture will be in a Bowling Times
there or whatever it is for thelanes. And he's laughing over here.
(03:30):
That's that's my love. I loveme some bowling there. And I was
up in my favorite golf course thatI play all the time, and I
almost got an eagle. H Itook out my new driver to B fifty
two and say that's on a partfour for those of you who play,
And man, I sailed one twoseventy five if it was an inch the
(03:52):
Seriously, my second shot was aninch and a half away from the hole.
I almost hold it. There yougo. I've never had an eagle.
All right, you might get one. So I'm telling you we're talking
explosions for the July Clams. Thisguy will be there, lots of fireworks,
burn something down maybe maybe and yes, or let's do it bowling and
(04:13):

today. Hello Devra too. Excuseme, I'm sorry part of me Devas
I missed that one too. Howare you tonight? Devra? As always?
But yeah, I haven't seen thisone in Ages. It's I remember
a little bit of it though,Yeah, it was. It's kind of
a nice one where Wally uh andWeaver go uh you know, if you
(04:56):
little synopsis here, they go todo some stuff at the school with the
field day and everything that's kind offunny. And to make a long story
short, Wally wins all the medalsand gets you know, a kind of
a plaque or a statue or thatyou call it trophy. Excuse me,
my mind is drifting and Beaver breaksit accidentally, and he's been acting jealous
(05:17):
towards Wally, so they kind ofreprimand him there and he Ward says,
well, if you don't like whatwe're doing, maybe you should find some
other parents. And he goes, and he goes. Larry Mandelo gets the
bright idea to take him to theadoption agencye it. Beaver gets wants to
go pick his parents or something, right, you know, something like that.
Yeah, and it's it's an interestingshow. Beverly said, Hey,
(05:39):
my excitement was seeing mister Hugh Beaumonton Superman this morning. He was on
Superman? Yes, what did youdo on Superman? I know he was
a character actor and a lot ofthose shows like Superman in the day there,
and he also played in some moviewhere he's an underground cave guy,
some kind of sci fi. I'venever seen him anything, but leave it
to me, you know. Imean he is way before my time,
(06:01):
of course, so I've never seenhim anything, but leave it to beab.
But no, I know you hadan illustrious career. Yeah, pretty
much. So Deveryra said she sawit too today, So all right,

right now. There's the beautiful Barbarabillings line. I always say it just
stunning. I always just love Ilove me some Barbara Billingsley. What I
(07:09):
would give to have some of hercooking. I'll tell you, I'm sure
we got it plenty of times thoughwith Grandma, because Grandma cooked. Would
love to give you some nice mealthat we did. Hey, Brenda,
how's it going tonight? Nice tosee you, quick commercial, folk commercial.
And I had my wife, Ihad Ramona laughing today. And it's
(07:29):
so funny that this episode came upwith the adoption, uh, because my
parents used to do something different. My father when I would misbehave, they
wouldn't be like war if I wouldreally keep it up. They did this
to me twice and scared theud beJesus out of me. They would they
would get on the phone, ofcourse you put it down and say hello,
(07:50):
is this the boys home? Andthey would say that I was misbehaving
and to send somebody to pick meup or explain it, and Jesus,
I can remember one time I wasliterally said, you don't let them take
me, and then my father playedit so that you know, he says,
oh, the officers are here fromthe home to take him. I
(08:11):
was ready to go catatonic. Icould so see him doing that too.
That's the best part. I kindof deserved it. But we got seven
seconds left in the commercial. Itcertainly wasn't leave it to be. Hey,
Barbara, how's it going? Shesays, hello, I'm here,
and I just watched this on meTV last week. Excellent. Oh look
at this to nice evening night.Ward has his paper out, catching up
(08:33):
on the world. Look at you. They're very excited to give this to
him right now. Yes, Guardian, see all these little lessons. Ward
isn't going to sign anything until hechecks it out. I was reading that
thing over like a fine tooth witha fine tooth comb. And of course
(08:58):
she's worried about it matter what roughgame see Wards, the sense of uh,
the sense of reason here, becauseJune's always gonna be worried no matter
what. We'll think of how differentthis is from today. Now from today,
they'd have to have some all kindsof specially all kinds of special,
(09:18):
woke kinds of things. Yeah, but we have the Inclusion Award coming for
Jimmy for doing a forgetting last place. He did a wonderful job in this.
Everybody wins. Everybody wins an awarda little bit different, you know,
and that's a big thing though, for the kids that come back with
a metal or trophy or whatever itis. Oh wow, he won.
(09:50):
Look at how families were different. They're sitting at the table. I'm sorry
every week you guys to repeat thesame thing, but they're sitting in the
air and the whole family thing isbeing down to the table able the dynamic
here, there's words gotta pack withbutts in again. Is there something bothering
you with you? No, notat all, not at all, Beverly
says le lo L. Dads werelike that. Then. My dad would
(10:11):
say, uh, okay, seeif we didn't leave the park with him,
of course we'd run to him.Yeah. When when you got called
out on it, that's when itwas. I can remember having to go
to a field day and my fatheractually got aggravated because I only had you
know, like ps kats. Yeah, heavy, but they wanted you to
have like tennis sneakers. Yeah, and I don't have any extra if the
(10:35):
signals a little low. We're havinga storm out here today, folks,
So we apologize just at the videoslagging a little bet ter, the signals
a little low. We can't helpthe weather. Yeah, we can't help
the bad weather. It's been. It's been months soon and out here today,
boy lived poor beaver Man. Helooks like he just lost his puppy.
Yeah, he does. But Idon't know how you guys feel out
there. I guess I'm a littlemore unsympathetic to beaver I didn't feel too
(10:58):
sorry for him in this episode.Look awards, butts there again in his
pocket. He's a week after aweek. Well see that's a lesson though
too. Not everybody is that init to win it. I guess in
life, they're just have to bepart of the team. Yeah, I
(11:20):
guess you're right on that. Imissed the point on that. I don't
agree with that, but that's justme. I guess. The dynamic here,
though, is too is this isthe kind of a family dynamic where
one of the brothers is very athleticand use a lot of common sense and
the other guy's kind of goofy, which is Beaver. Well, while he
(11:41):
was always the one that stood outand everything, Yes, you know,
he was always the one that stoodout and everything and was the successful one.
Yes. V said Beaver could bea bit bratty at times, just
a little bit sometimes when he getsvery brady in this one. He never
really like succeeded in anything on theshow here from what I remember, he
(12:01):
never had good grades. He wasnever an athlete. I mean, he
was always kind of fighting with otherboys all the time at some points.
I mean he was the complete oppositeof Wally as a character. Yeah,
a little bit. Yeah, andhe always had that little brother syndrome,
you know. Right, it's wonderfuldynamics. They have everything, and you
(12:24):
know Ward's trying to be, youknow, to be a very reasonable conservative
guy with some values oriented. Butshe is too, but she's she's always
interested in their emotions, yeah, feelings. It's her in her own way.
But I agree with the way thatword put it there. He's like,
I can't not praise him just becauseBieber didn't win something. That's tough.
What a different day. Now they'regoing to Sunday School here and the
(12:48):
parents didn't go. Yeah, hesure was the golden boy. But really
that's that's a fact right there,as you just as we progress throughout the
season and stuff. But while healways earns that title, yeah, you
know, yeah, while he's awhile, he's a real hard worker.
Yeah, all the kids liked him, wanted to be a friend. You
(13:13):
know. He was always a greatathlete and a great student. It's it's
all those you know, it's allthat. It's all that stuff that they
put in the show was Ward withHugh Beaumont being a minister right in the
value system that they have. Ihate to say that, but then I
don't have to say it, youknow, no, absolutely, it was
just uh but it was also thethere was also the community standards at the
(13:33):
time. You know, this shows, this show, you were going to
see that in this the Beaver andWard and Wally and the whole family,
everybody gets raised or is part ofa community whatever here in this town in
Mayfield. Yeah, he's not wherethose big cuffs for ones in a Sunday
(13:56):
school outfit and those pants would bewhat we call flag waivers, slide favors
that like high waters No, thisw Yeah, like Beaver looks so handsome
as he's in as he's in hischurch outfit, and Larry just looks like
a slob. Well for him,he's kind of cleaned up there. Yeah,
(14:16):
you see his hair is done. He's got the Larry. He's got
the customary Larry apple. Of course, as he he must have got tired
of eating apples by the end ofthe show. He must have went through
on an episode, probably two threeapples a shot each. Son. Do
you ever know anybody when you werekid who's always eating with them like an
apple or something like that. No, not like that. I didn't either.
(14:39):
I mean I knew people of coursewho were like you know, big
junk food eaters or something like that, but not like Larry was with the
apple. I mean, I hateto say, when I was a kid,
even though like you think, wewouldn't eat chunk food, we didn't.
Even with me, I would prefercandy over things like apples and bananas,
of course, yeah would Oh,I'd be begging my parents they want
(15:01):
something sugar or something like that.Let's see, Hey, what's going on,
Tom, how's it going buddy?Hi? Tom V said in real
life Tony dwe was an athlete,a diver, and the gymnast. Yeah,
and the hell of an artist too, because that was fantastic, wasn't
that profession? Afterwards? He wasan artist. Well, he also directed
stuff for TV. Jerry was inthe military. Yes, yeah, it
(15:22):
was in the Air Force. Ohthe truth he got broke. Oh boy,
Yeah, I don't think Jerry.I don't think that Jerry Mather's I'm
sure that Brian or some of theother folks would know in there that.
I don't think he got any specialpreferential treatment when he was in the military.
(15:46):
Oh yeah, yeah, he wasin the Air Force. I remember
that. I believe he wanted togo anything. Yeah, I believe he
volunteered. I think he was inthe reserve unit something like that. I
remember the picture I saw of him. He was a staff sergeant in the
picture. So he was a Efive in the picture that I saw him
with. Tom says met Tony atthe San Jose toy show before he died.
(16:10):
All right, funny San Jose story. So I'm going to San Jose,
Costa Rica in a few weeks andthe other day I didn't even realize
until I got my thing I accidentallybooked a flight to San Jose, California.
Instaid, what a bonehead move thatwas. I could have come out
and seen Tom over there, Isaid, Man, and it takes,
And that's a Larry Mondelo movie.That was a Larry Mondelo move. I
(16:32):
felt like a Bonett for that one. Well, here's where the problem starts
in that thing that he's there andhe starts playing with Wally's thing but actually
kind of bragging on him. Yeah, and it breaks the trophy, and
then Larry Mondelo comes up with asmart idea to go there and try and
put it together at his house.Yeah, kind of their version of crazy.
(16:53):
Look, I mean you would thinklike you could probably get at that
thing fixed anywhere, Like why when, why wouldn't you just say to your
parents, you know, I accidentallybroke this trophy like it was a total
accident, because it looked like hewas fighting that he might have done it
on purpose and he wasn't supposed totouch Wallly's things anyway. Yeah, the
(17:14):
kid's logic, yep y see Wardgets it. He goes then he knows
that no matter what, if theydo whatever they're doing, if he comes
up storms up there, they're gonnahe's they're gonna realize he's coming. They
can't put it together correctly. Itdoesn't look half bad. I was throwing
(17:37):
the discus the wrong one. Yeah. H it's a nice trophy though.
Well, when you're kid and youget one of those, you don't care.
It's like gold. Yeah, it'sthe coolest thing in the world.
Oh. Absolutely, he just turnedhis head on that thing wrong too.
(18:11):
The logic of Larry. Yes,Larry is actually trying to be helpful.
But you know what comes first withLarry. It's dinner time. Yeah,
Larry wants to get the heck outof there. Absolutely, and he ain't
missing a meal. We all knowthat about Larry. I was just thinking,
if the Larry logic, that's that'sLarry's that's concrete thinking right there.
(18:36):
If he wasn't so good at running, and we wouldn't be in this pickle
Another apple for him. He keepsa half chewed apple in his back pocket.
Now here's the thing that sets everythingoff. Yes, I broke it
off purpose. I did not ifI broke it on purpose to get it,
(19:07):
it has to feel like the worldis against him at this moment.
For a kid three on one againsthim, So they're not really he's not
getting whacked or walloped or anything elselike that. Yeah, but you're right,
it's how they're all kind of sidedon one side against him as a
kid. You know. That's Yes, that's the that's their logic. And
hell they'll see it. You know. If you guys are watching this,
(19:32):
I always are a knazed at thesethings. They're kind of reprimanding him here.
Now, Oh Beaver gets made.It gets the Poudy base on him.
Yeah, you seldom see him likethis. There's the Braddy's that we
talked about earlier. Yeah. Wardhas such measured, clear speech. He's
(19:59):
always clear. Put a little smirkon his face there. Wow. Yeah,
that's what I was going to saybefore. If you watch them and
you caught it, you cut itright here. People when you watch this
show the acting and some people say, oh, it's it's just so basic.
(20:22):
No, it's not. They standthere and communicate so much with their
facial gestures, absolutely, and thetones of their voices, the inflection on
how they do things. You know, what if the side that they're looking
at, the non verbals on butJerry mathers that he's showing there. Yeah,
reward. I mean it's really goodstuff. Amen. What's going on?
How's it going? My friend?Always great to see. Uh,
(20:45):
hopefully you're doing wonderful, my friend. Poor Wally though you know you got
he did all that work and youknow he got his trope be busted.
Oh there she goes, get don'tbe too hard on the bee. Yeah.
In the world. Yeah, andsee years ago, nobody everybody understood
(21:14):
that. But you could get youcould get a spanking. There could be
some You say that now, andmy god, they'll have uh they'll have
child protective services against them in aboutten seconds, absolutely quick commercial here,
folks. Yes, how do youknow? How do you guys feel about
that? Did your parents uh usecorporal punishment at home with you or you
(21:40):
know, was that a common thingin your neighborhood or in your family or
anything else? And I'm not talkingabout a child abuse I don't hit me
again. Yeah, No, I'mtalking about you know, a very limited
or just I don't know what youconsidered normal kinds of things. This is
the king of corporal punishment over You'reall just the worst. Yes, what's
(22:03):
going on? Kathy? Anyone knowhow many shows they made? Per week.
My gosh, I wonder what thetype taping schedule would have been for
them at the time. Probably onea week, something like that. I
would think, I wonder two aweek, you know, I wouldn't think
two a week. I would thinkone a week. There's a lot that
goes into doing a thirty minute episodethough, And then some these kids also
(22:27):
had to go to school. Theyonly had X amount of hours, Yeah,
that they could do. Yeah.If he said in in Brooklyn it
was common to get a whack onthe rear end. There you go.
Yeah, sure, well here comesLarry is gonna be brainstorming some good ideas.
Now that Beaber said, they toldhim to go get better parents.
(22:49):
I wish you would have. Wenever see Larry Mondella's dad ever. Never,
Yeah, No, I think therewas, yeah, one episode.
I think later on. Yeah, his dad was always Eddie Haskell's dad.
Eddie Eddie's dad was on the train. I think we do see Larry's one
maybe one time in the show.I could be wrong, now you guys
(23:10):
tell me. Yeah, Eddie Haskell'sdad was Karl Swinson, famous Axtor character
actor. When Grant when needed, grandparents switched mom the belt mom always kept
her cool, never said and Beverlysaid, wark child labor laws firmly in
place by then. Yeah, theywere. That's why I with the ticnic
schedules, That's why they would haveto have schooling, you know, only
(23:30):
a lot to work a certain amountof hours. It's really always kind of
been in place with you. Thatwas the Jackie Coogan law, the Jackie
Cooper wall, one of the twofamous child actor from the twenties. Yeah,
it is overworking or something. Yeah. Yeah, well, here's a
rare thing right now. Ward isactually folding a towel to help June the
laundry. Look at her, thetypical there's that perfect beautiful rattan laundry basket.
(23:55):
Yep. I can remember towels likethat in my house with that same
pattern. All right, let's let'ssee. Barbara said, yeah, we
saw Larry's dad at the school playthe one time, so we did.
I was right, We did geta sighting of him at one point.
Reallyst says, right, very good. Yep. Where was he always going
there? Madge Blake was his mother. Yeah, and she was always saying
(24:19):
he's going to Cincinnati or someplace someCleveland or something. Yeah, somewhere around
that area. I think Tom saidwe had corporal punishment in the seventies.
I got smacked twice. We hadthat in my school as well. Yes,
all, look at this. Heactually came to the adoption agency.
The adoption lady right here at thesecretary or whatever she is. She's very
(24:41):
pretty. Yeah, it looks likeshe's about twelve, though, No,
she looks like she's in the earlytwenties. She's pretty. She looks like
she kind of looks like Ashton Kutcher'swife from Mina's what's her name? No,
no, no, he's not marriedto her anymore. I can't.
I don't know. I'm blanket onthe girl's name. But his wife,
whose wife she was in the seventiesshow with him. But very pretty,
(25:04):
very very melaicoonness. Oh yeah, yeah, she helms like melaicoonness. Look
at the picture of the of thetwo old people and the painting with the
baby adopting it out. Those oldpeople were supposed to be typical parents.
Yeah, they look like their grandparentsin that one. Look how stuffy it
(25:30):
looks in that room. Well,it's the big comfy things. Because this
is an adoption agent. You're comingin here, it has to be very
calm, very very calm. There'sa lot of intense emotions happen here.
It is here. Now, isthis going to be an instance of the
(25:53):
village raising the child here where theold adoption ages probably have a conversation with
him. You got it about howlucky he is to have good parents.
It's not that they always have atrick. This woman is a famous character.
Actress Brenda said, I love thepart when he wants his parents because
he's hungry. He learns his lessthan then missus Brady looks like miss Rayburn
(26:17):
a little bit. I was justgonna say that very good. And of
course, you know they got tocome out with the thief. Yes,
and if you notice all these people, whether the school principal or this woman
of the agency, they're older. They're not younger women. They're more grandmotherly
motherly. Yeah, and watch hereyes with him. She's you can see
(26:40):
that she's a real bleeding heart. But uses she really loves these kids.
Maybe she doesn't have kids of herown or something. I'm projecting onto that,
but that's the impression. Yet.Beverly said, great show, Thanks
guys, good night, thanks,Beverly and dev have a great night.
Thanks for swinging by and joining us. And I hope see you get soon.
So that's what I'm doing. Shelooks like she's gonna cry. She
(27:06):
looks like a nice lady though,Yes, really nice lady. Yeah,
there it is. There's a spotthat Brenda was talking about have you been
mean or crude to you before? And you see, she doesn't know what
his family's really like. So whenshe hears that a little boy is hungry,
(27:26):
she gets aulterary eyed. Yeah, she's making this assumption that he's not
getting enough to eat at home.Yes, he's got bad parents. Yes,
yew. She's starting to wives up. I had that could be a
real problem. She's trying to sympathizewith him a little bit and rationalize.
(27:49):
I thought, so, would youwait here just a few minutes and let
me see what I can do.Do you want miss Walker to get to
something to eat? Oh? Thankyou? You won't go away with you,
no, man. Now, he'sbeen before everybody in Mayfield. He's
been before the judge, before theadoption even agency awarded. Yes, they
(28:18):
picked the phone right up a girl'sparents. I don't remember the ending,
but I got a feeling Ward's goingto do something sentimental with him, to
kind of sweet talk him. MaybeI don't remember. Now they see this
has to be so embarrassing to themboth, right, oh, yes,
(28:41):
you really wonderful. But they've gota plan. The village has a plan
to say one of the kids. All right, Defor said Lorraine Tuttle was
miss Brady, and Lee Torrens ismiss Walker. Okay, very thank you.
We got to pull out our oldwickiped be repeedia one of these days
in honor of the Great Brian restin peace. Absolutely, look at this.
(29:08):
She has her gloves in her she'sready to go, So you don't
leave the house without your gloves on. The gloves weren't for the weather,
they were for the look. Thegloves were because she didn't have contact with
anybody else's flesh. You had yourgloves on, you weren't going to be
that personal. She gave him thelook at doom as Wally was trying to
(29:32):
make a joke there about the wholething, because Wally knows this ridiculous.
Have nothing to worry about. Youdo know when I mentioned the gloves,
the gloves are to prevent flesh toflesh contact between her and other people.
I didn't know that. Yeah, yes, I think it was just for
the presentation to be of modesty.Put your gloves on. Yeah, it's
(29:57):
a endearing No, it is.See this lady who is just you know,
running the agency here. Yes,that sets up this elaborate story for
him to help give him good parents. And think if we were taking a
look now at an adoption agency ora social they get the hell out of
here. You'd have a million peoplescreaming and yelling and carrying on and all
kinds of nonsense. I'm not saying, you know, that's my business.
(30:23):
You have nice people out there, but it's it's a little more harsh,
just a just a pinch. Itwasn't like this. See there's the question
from the kid. If they don'tlike it, well they bring you back.
Does it work that easy? No? Look at the collar on this
guy. I know, boy, that that's just hanging out. No,
(30:47):
that's how shirts for. You gotyour Charlie Sheen shirt on a nice man.
I watch that every night, sevenstrikes. What a reat show.
That is the complete opposite of Leaveit to Beaver. Oh yes, this
(31:10):
is so sweet. Her voice.Look at her eyes. Oh, I
lie, I love the music too. Yes, how how the whole shot
is framed them coming in all thedifferent facial expressions. I think nobody's mad.
(31:33):
Everybody's happy. She's she's done herjob making very happy. That's a
good moment. How many of youguys out there were never a kiss from
