(01:21):
out projects based on commerce driving Lake Laura getting tap
of the team on four to five, seven, one, nine.
Speaker 6 (01:27):
Three zero, Well it's up yeah on your face and
(02:42):
I don't think you're a real dragon's been oh when
the Saint.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
Indeed, that was one of the best most gritty, complete
eighty minute performances from the team in recent memory. Now,
I know we were fantastic down in Melbourne last year
to get the win over the same team, but I
feel like a lot when against us in this game.
We were given a lot of chances to make excuses
(03:08):
that there were some awful decisions against us. The storm
had sixty percent of the ball completing an eighty five percent.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
It was wet, it was miserable, and we were just
under pressure constantly. There was no way we could survive.
There was no way we could keep turning the storm away.
We were always going to fade down the stretch, but
we didn't. We simply refused to give in.
Speaker 7 (03:37):
We dug in our heels, We worked hard for the
man next to us.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
We trusted in our process. We did not panic, We
never dropped our heads.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
We competed for eighty minutes and showed absolutely no quit.
This was a performance to be proud of. So let's
see who has men was proud of?
Speaker 2 (03:57):
And also who should be shot out of a counter
into the south.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
That's down look at by us, locks out, run down
like any tell us, get down down deron ra a hero?
Speaker 8 (04:34):
Alrighty, So heroes and villains for around for weathering the storm,
which I thought was quite appropriate. Finally, the dragons are
on the board for twenty twenty five, and the misery
for Melbourne continues at Cogra. Inappropriately wet conditions given the opposition.
The Dragons prevail fourteen points to eight, despite the best
(04:54):
efforts of referee beat A Gough to get the Storm home. Now,
I reckon Torrone, we shouts got to be questioning he's
deceieding to leave. Should have stuck with a real team son.
I think Gardnson led from the back with a strong
defensive performance and provided a crucial try. It says keeping
the Dragons steady under pressure home backed up ten points.
(05:16):
Who would try two conversions and pounding goal, although I
reckon he should have been given a second shot at
the first one on the basis some dickhead Storm player
was draving a there was a white towel or rag
of some fucking description, which is actually, according to the
rules illegal. As just one of the things that go
for me, It's one of the many little game changing
(05:39):
impact off the bench, as he always does with a
strong defensive performance, scoring the game winning try. Now moving
to the other side of the ledger, referee Peter Goff
had an absolute fucking shocker, with several contentious calls that
left Dragons fans fuming. Doing everything he could to get
(06:00):
the Storm home, a series of terrible, terrible decisions, including
inconsistent rock penalties and a missed high tackle on Val
Holmes just for starters that kept the Storm in the
game longer than they really should have been. Now, despite
the Dragons win, his performance has quite rightly been a
(06:21):
talking point on Dragon Socials. Better art next time, Goffy. Now,
in that same spirit, I have to call out Bunker
official case badger I reckon she would have been a
better choice than GoF forgetting the main job, getting pretty
much everything right, including denying the Storm at least one try,
and also ruling that there was no foul play in
(06:43):
the game winning tackle by Jaden Sewer and Toby Couchman
who dragged Xavier Coats almost onto the Prince's highway back
into the end goal with a minute or so remaining.
So there you go, Donnyattas and Villains.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Fantastic mate.
Speaker 9 (07:04):
And well let's get in and introduce the rift of
the panel. Obviously you've heard from having and we've got
Jeffy and Liam on the panel as well, and we've
got the man that's the bigger late inclusion than David Klemer.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
The top right here in corner then, and also we've
got a couple of special guests Brook.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
And Parkert Tenant, otherwise known as Rugby League Roue.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Welcome to the show, guys.
Speaker 10 (07:34):
Thanks thanks everyone for having us.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Yeah, so I mean we'll keep to Parker in a minute,
because I know Parker is a bit of a legend
in rugby league circles already.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
But Brook tell us a little bit about rugby League Roue.
Speaker 10 (07:52):
Thanks Donnie. Rugby League who has been going for about
ten years now. It was formerly Kenyaro. We started training
some Kenyan athletes way back about twelve years ago and
it got so popular in Asia and Africa that we
changed it from ken gru to rugby League rule and
(08:14):
now we're doing fifteen countries. So we go from under
six's right up through to NRL level and international level.
We've got designated and qualified coaches and what we do
is we go into the country, a lot of them
are emerging countries, and we provide them with training and skills, etc.
(08:38):
Building up their requirements for their coaches and then putting
pathways systems in so the coaches can actually operate with
us as train the trainers and they then coach and
development with their nations. We've done that quite success fully.
(09:01):
Part of Rugby League ROUE is also a manufacturing arm
which my wife Sally operates, so we have the ability
to also get them equipment and attire and apparel. So
once they get to a certain level and they've got
teams in designated age groups, we can then format them
(09:23):
with gear. We get a lot of donations, et cetera.
And we've built up a lot of countries. Right now
we're in Ethiopia, so that's part of what we've been
doing with Rugby League Root.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
I'm on handover the jut out.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
Judy met Parker the other day and Jets, you're the
one that's an organized and to come on someone hand
over you to ask a you questions.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (09:50):
So well, first of all, we'll start with you, Brooke.
We'll go So you've been a few weeks ago. You
were down in the illawar and Long area. I'm doing
some stuff with the Dragons, NRL and and and url
W teams. Can you tell us a bit about what
you would what was going.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
On with that? Uh?
Speaker 11 (10:10):
Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 10 (10:11):
I went down with Brazil and it was down there
with Flanno and the nr l W and the Tarta
Cup side. Two of the young ladies we sent down
this year to the Dragons for the Tarsa Gale, Alexa
Burgess and Spy Natalia. So they've performed quite well. We've
(10:34):
been dealing with sam with the Tasa cup side and
dealing with Sammy and the nrl W head coach and
so we're working towards getting a pathway from Queensland to
(10:55):
assist the Dragons with future representation and quality players. So
we provide them with opportunities and pathways to the Dragons. Naturally,
because we are a Dragon, we support the Dragons. We
do get a lot of We get a lot of
(11:17):
activity from other clubs asking for players representation, so there
are times when we feed to other clubs and particularly
if they're living in the area. So we were down
there and spent a lot of time with the Dragons,
actually two weeks at Cogra and also down at wind.
(11:40):
We were highly beneficial for us met all the players,
went through all the processes with them and went to
the Captain's run, did some sessions with Tasa Gale, etc.
And it was quite an eye opener. What I will
say is from a person that has dealt with the
(12:03):
Dragons over a two week period pre season, I could
see that they were, they are and will build to
something incredibly receptive. This year.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
They were that.
Speaker 10 (12:15):
The players were absolutely brilliant. With Parker. They took him
in the Chaine room. They nothing was too much of
an effort. He went on wind Stadium and played with
them and kicked the ball round. We did some sessions.
They were absolutely beautiful to my wife, so I could
(12:35):
not speak highly more highly of Flanne. The boys YOUNGI Brazil.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
They were.
Speaker 10 (12:43):
They were incredibly nice to it my family, and they
were you could you can see how much dedication they
are going to have this year. They will gel extremely well,
and I think that as the season goes on, you're
going to see much better performed Dragons consistently.
Speaker 11 (13:07):
Yesterday was the start of it, I believe so.
Speaker 10 (13:11):
I mean in patches against the Canon the first round cannon,
we got away a bit on us and we dug
deep and came back. They were kind of floating in
and out of that game, the Dragons and against South,
it was really hot. I don't know if people realized
how oppressive that heat was. So Souse. The Rabbits went
(13:35):
through a real lull stage as well. They dipped and
then we dipped a bit later, with about fifteen to go,
we made some rash decisions, but I think the heat
was a factor in that second round game. So the
bye for us probably came at a good time. We
(13:56):
could reset and a Flanno flogged them that week. And
not only yes, not only physically, but mentally mentally. He
he puts a lot of work into each player, so
(14:17):
he cares about the players. He wants to find out
about them as a person, their family, how they're going,
what their lifestyle is. So he's an overall coach and
men with a lot of experience, and I think we're
very thankful to have him and young I and Sammy
Bremner with the ladies. How Aril w new coach. I
(14:42):
think that the Dragons are really on the way up.
So that was our perspective of the Dragons having been
with them for two weeks, and we're going back again.
We're going back to do some more stuff with them,
so I'm looking forward to that.
Speaker 11 (15:03):
And Parker, were you excited to meet all the players?
How were you excited about?
Speaker 12 (15:07):
You?
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Very Who's your favorite?
Speaker 13 (15:13):
Well, I have to see one, you know, Toby catch.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
Me, Yes, you sure do.
Speaker 13 (15:21):
He's the one that took me in the change rooms
and he was really good to me. I came running
at the door and crying. And the second one is
Jaden Sewer.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Oh yeah, I thought he was that man who that's
yes yesterday he was.
Speaker 10 (15:42):
He was powerful yesterday.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
He was powerful, Yes, very powerful. He ran the ball
hard and then he got injured. Remember he got injured.
He heard his wrist.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
He battled on. He did make a great game. I
thought he was.
Speaker 14 (15:55):
Quite good against Melbourne.
Speaker 13 (15:57):
See Melbourne problem with when they always versus US, they
have a bad point than when they score, they have
a little bitter thing in ten minute mark and then
they drop again against us in the past two years.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
Good analysis.
Speaker 10 (16:17):
But the I think with what Flanno's trying to do
is unearth our origin players, like he has the values
of the more red players to get into your team,
the stronger your team will be. Right and his major
emphasis when he was at the Sharks et cetera. He's
(16:40):
on d and making no errors. And the Dragons are
a good side. So if they can limit their errors
and keep the ball in play and win, the ruck
will win most games.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
I think it will be hard for them.
Speaker 10 (16:59):
And you know what t they're a big side. The
Dragons are a really big side across the field. If
you see them, you notice that, particularly in the Captain's run,
where in the Captain's run they kind of split up
into two legs and they do a relay back and forth,
(17:20):
and you can see across the field how big they are.
So there's no like even Ilias Ilius is big. He's
not a small halfback. And I think that's as the
year goes on and they get some game time and
gel together. And let's not forget that this is a completely.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
New spine exactly.
Speaker 10 (17:43):
This is like third game to beat Melbourne. I don't
think anyone really gave us a hope. And you're generally fine.
If the Dragons can score first, they really play well
the rest of the game.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Yeah, yeah, mm hmmm.
Speaker 11 (18:05):
Anyone else have some questions for Brooklyn Parker?
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Well, Parker, I understands your world, wrinkle hole of mine?
Speaker 11 (18:12):
Where is it?
Speaker 13 (18:13):
Every time I see your videos you always go, I'll
get your hands with the bull mite.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Fire up.
Speaker 11 (18:24):
You've got you've got a fan, Donnie.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
You've got made, You've got made down Pat Mike, you do.
Speaker 10 (18:33):
I'll tell you what don Before every Dragon's game. He says,
Dad put Donnie from Perth up before the game. Yes,
you do have a fan. Yes, look at this if
you can see this, this is he is quite big
(18:56):
and what too, but let's see is Australian world record
for can you remember Chris Walker the Walker boards he
held the Australian record at eighty seven. Wow, he had
eighty seven tries. Yeah, you know Middleton that does all
(19:20):
the stats and everything. That's the one that he pulled
out and said, yes he holds a record. And then
we had like the ABC channel seven, nine, ten, Fox
Sports in America, they all they all covered his game
when he did the hundredths try. So he plays for
(19:41):
the Glander Sharks here and he scored the hundredth try
at the home ground, which was quite exciting for the club.
There a big crowd, yeah there was actually Yeah, that
was a Friday night game. And they do under lights.
They have two games a year under lights. And he
(20:05):
loves his team.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
He's he's a.
Speaker 10 (20:08):
Good team player. This year, this last year he played
played in a hooker role, so dummy half, so he
could feed all these teams and they could get some try.
So he said that I've done what I did. Now
I want my teammates a big crack. So I thought
that was I was very proud of.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
He's broke broken the try scoring record. Now he's going
to break the trice this record this season.
Speaker 13 (20:39):
This season, it's not about tried it's defense.
Speaker 11 (20:45):
Yes, both sides down.
Speaker 13 (20:51):
Now, they didn't score much because they were we were defending.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Our offense was very good on today night, very good.
That was That was definitely the key, all right, dad?
Speaker 5 (21:07):
Yeah's got any any questions for the Parker?
Speaker 3 (21:14):
Yeah, Parker, what was the total number of tries tries
at the end of the year, because you had five
five games to go when you're on eighty nine.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
I think it was, yes, five, Yeah, So how did
you scoring total?
Speaker 14 (21:28):
One hundred.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
One?
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Who I played football for eighteen years and I don't
think I scored twenty one?
Speaker 2 (21:39):
Well, you need on that mate. Understanding your little legend. Man,
you're a legend, absolute legend. We all love you. My
young Blake came on and said, this is a good
little kid. He's a good kid. And if you keep.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
Thinking like you think, thinking like you're thinking, talking about
letting your teammates score tries, that's totally excellent, that's fantastic,
that's well done.
Speaker 13 (22:10):
You're the starmer. I think you got more dragons stuff
than me to be.
Speaker 15 (22:18):
And there's a few dragons things up behind me. But
I'm telling you, now, how are you Papa out eight? Well,
I've been collecting these stuff behind me here. Don't worry
about the don't worry about the flies.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
Break.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
I've been collecting this stuff for I'm going to say
thirty five years.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Shoot, shoot, that's right, A long time, A long time.
Speaker 14 (22:52):
It is big to your company, or is it.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
I used to be in a bed a long long
time ago, and my name is Big T in the band,
so I've kept Big Tea forever, big.
Speaker 16 (23:04):
Team the MGS no, no, no, thank you very much
for joining in.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
So it's great to learn a little bit about the
rugby league.
Speaker 5 (23:16):
Grew and I think certainly great for all the Mad
Dragons to to leave Parker and learn about his efforts.
But we might have to get you on the coaching staff.
I reckon Parker, because you've seen have better ideas than most.
Speaker 17 (23:30):
Of them, wouldn't you love?
Speaker 11 (23:37):
Is that your dream to play for the Dragons one day?
Speaker 2 (23:40):
Yes? Signing up now? Coach deal?
Speaker 13 (23:50):
They signed me up at thirteen when I turned thirteen,
already of the contract, beauty.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
That's it. You'll be in the in the Harold Matt
Tay before you know it. Axistent Parker is the goat, yep,
the left.
Speaker 13 (24:12):
When the Dragons played the first two games, they went
a right because we only got beat by eight and one.
Speaker 14 (24:19):
But you say, here's the thing.
Speaker 13 (24:21):
In the first game when the Storm played Paramatta Eels,
the Storm won fifty fifty to six and that and
we beat them fourteen to eight.
Speaker 14 (24:33):
So technically, I think we'll go right this year.
Speaker 5 (24:37):
So we're gonna be We're gonna be Paramatta by what.
I'm not too good at mathmat Can you help me
para tweek?
Speaker 14 (24:45):
I think by two twenty five.
Speaker 17 (24:53):
Twenty five that sounds good.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
One orders that why it's a better prediction. Prep once
we get from Liam.
Speaker 11 (25:04):
Is better than Liam's.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
It sounds like you know more about rugby league than
than Scoop. So you we wanted to leave you want.
Speaker 18 (25:17):
My ground h.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Old. He's defending his turn.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
Doesn't mean about referees.
Speaker 11 (25:30):
So I noticed you when you're on the Today Show
you said about giving it to your teammates.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Is that is?
Speaker 11 (25:39):
That is that why you're giving it to your teammates. Now,
is it on the advice sam Fire I gave.
Speaker 14 (25:43):
You, Yes, show.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
It was.
Speaker 10 (25:51):
It was very It was very good information that Sammy
took the time to share with him. But as as
a dad and his coach, I was looking to beef
up his defense because look, anyone can score tries, and
when you're six, seven, eight nine.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
There's score tries. I was lucky.
Speaker 10 (26:19):
There's no better feeling than scoring tries when you're young.
But as as he goes through the grades, and we
do a lot of tackling practice now for his eight side,
so there's a lot of skills and how to tackle
correctly and everything. So he's he's coming good on on
(26:44):
on the tackling. He's aggressive when he needs to be aggressive,
and having fun when he needs to have fun. So
I think it's got to be at this age, it's
got to be well rounded and it's still got to
be a lot of fun. That's why you play for
And I think sometimes when we get to first grade,
(27:05):
the players that just still love playing the game are
the better players.
Speaker 9 (27:12):
Absolutely all right, Well, we've got to we've got to
get on with the rest of the show.
Speaker 5 (27:17):
It's been great to have yous on and we watch
finish up at Parker. Can you give us your your
best far up mate.
Speaker 14 (27:26):
Okay, give you on the ball, mate, fire.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Up, we're going.
Speaker 10 (27:40):
Thanks very much for having us.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
I've been great, Thank you, thank you, thanks for coming on.
Speaker 11 (27:46):
Luck with your footy season.
Speaker 10 (27:48):
Thank you keep saying far up mate, I'm always We'll
see it dead.
Speaker 5 (27:57):
But all right, Well, moving and out into Mad Dragon's
Vodka Player of the Year.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
We don't actually go through all the votes like we
used to in the past. We're trying to shorten up
the show.
Speaker 5 (28:11):
We're already about half an hour in, but just going
quickly through the votes. Three went to Jade and Sewer
too to Clint Gathason and Wonder Dylan Egan the deal
and the Egan one.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Actually pisses me off a little bit. If I'm honest.
That's the that's the way the panel has voted. I
mean it was, it.
Speaker 5 (28:29):
Was a very solid Daboot went really well, but I
I don't think he was within our best three players,
and I think he has shown them with a disrespect
to some of the other players who are out there
that work their absolute asses off in a in a
really big game. I think a lot of sentiment came
in from the panel members given giving him some votes.
(28:50):
And I might go to you where on that one,
because you gave him the man of the match, you
gave him three votes.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
So you want to take it through why you thought
Dylan Anyan was better than absolutely every single Dragon's player
in that performance.
Speaker 18 (29:05):
Well, I watched the game full yesterday, Donny. He just
was a tackler machine against Melbourne and again the ball
on the attacking musician. I think it was just the
best player on the park, even though the rest of
these numbtiers didn't vote for him, and I thought de
(29:29):
Laig was our best player on debut. That's why I
gave him the free folds. Donny, You're right, he was
the best player on the boo.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
He was our only player on the.
Speaker 5 (29:37):
Boot, but he was nowhere near the best player on
the park. He had a good game, it was, I mean,
as far as the Boos go, it was was a
very good game. But yeah, I did definitely yet I
thought it.
Speaker 18 (29:51):
But I think he just off the perch. Yes, that's
why I gave him a free.
Speaker 5 (29:57):
Yeah again, I think he he went well, but I
don't think he was in the top seven or eight.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Players, let alone top one.
Speaker 5 (30:07):
Anyway, we'll move into moments of the match. You're on
the Mad Dragons podcast, brought to you by Complete Warehouse Pollutions,
and I'll.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
Start with you, Big t Next, Rada Stadium is no
more Cobra, back to being officially Jubilee Stadium, but Jubilee Oval.
What are your thoughts on this?
Speaker 3 (30:29):
It's always it's always been over for me, over for
an extended bit, but it's always Jubilee, always has been.
When I call it nes Strata or Oki or one
of those other bullshit names we had, it's always Gibili Oval.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (30:46):
No, I think you're nice to see it go back
to a little bit of tradition that yeah, we know
George's River River Council, no doubt change it as soon
as they get somebody willing to line their pockets again,
so we might see. I'm sure we'll have another new
name before we know it.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Has been.
Speaker 5 (31:05):
One of the good things that Dragons are doing at
home games is having a legend delivering the game ball,
and this weekend it was Jason Nightingale with the game ball.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
Did he did he drop it off?
Speaker 5 (31:18):
With it with a nice fresh hot cup of coffee
for the captain.
Speaker 8 (31:23):
Not that I saw, but I think you might have
pooked the boys up with a or two after the game.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
But it's good.
Speaker 8 (31:31):
It's good to see these Dragon's legends being involved with
the current crop.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
Gives gives them more of an idea of sort.
Speaker 8 (31:39):
Of the the culture and the history of the club
that they're playing for, which can only can only be
a good thing.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
Yeah, totally. I think it's it's fantastic that we're darning
to get some of that connection back to the you know,
the former players and the legends of our club. And
I totally agree it's only a good thing.
Speaker 5 (32:01):
For the current prop to to hear from these guys
and for them to get a chance to to speak
to the new guys and to keep their finger on
the pulse as well.
Speaker 11 (32:09):
Jesse, I was going to say, now you mentioned some
one of the old boys. Michael Wayim is another one.
He's back involved with the club. He's one of the
co ground announcers at every home game now.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
And has been voice.
Speaker 11 (32:25):
He goes pretty good. I don't were you at were
you at the South game?
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Big T?
Speaker 17 (32:29):
Did you hear him?
Speaker 2 (32:34):
I wasn't known good he was. He was.
Speaker 11 (32:37):
He was very loud and passionate and he said I
was being back involved with the club and he's always love,
he's always loved. We're playing at Congran and Win Stadium,
so yeah, good to have one of our premiership legends
in the still involved with the club.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
Oh yeah, absolutely. Did he give a you fire up
throughout the game?
Speaker 13 (32:59):
Man?
Speaker 17 (33:00):
He does, he does, he does some rev ups.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Yes, still still got the big old horse, Jeff. Still
sticking to things that happened pre game.
Speaker 5 (33:12):
A bit of a change to our out starting lineup
from what was named on Tuesday that you went through
and on the team there's Tuesday. Toby Kiffen once again
pushed back to the bench with that new recruit David
Klemack coming into the starting lineup lineup.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
What did you do you think of this? This make change?
Speaker 11 (33:29):
Yeah, it was a little bit. I could see why
Flatter was doing it, but I could see I could
see some pros and consert like he hasn't played any trials,
he hasn't played any games since he'd come across from
the Tigers, but only played the twenty five minutes and
then toobey Cash and played the rest of the game.
But he really got the sets rolling for us, and
he did he did what he was required to do.
(33:50):
But I would have liked to see him get more minutes.
But our team did the job and he wasn't requited
any longer. But he was okay without being great.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Yeah, I thought that he looked like he was capable
of coming on for a second stint. And I thought
there were different stages where where he.
Speaker 5 (34:09):
Might have been a good option to be bring on,
bring on that side and that physicality to ram at
home at the back end. But I think he just
played exactly the same role that Blake Laurie played in
the game before, played that opening twenty twenty five minutes
and didn't come back on exactly the same as like
Laurie a week or so beforehand. There's some crap going
(34:33):
on in the comments and I can't follow that.
Speaker 11 (34:39):
All.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
Right, where did william go? Williams disappeared there?
Speaker 4 (34:45):
Yeah, he's going to look the rule book.
Speaker 11 (34:47):
There you go, some more scoops.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
Needs to drop dropped out. He was in the in
the green room having a having a take again. So
what do you want the.
Speaker 5 (35:11):
Only one to make late changes lamd the Melbourne Storm
big man Lass far Lepardo off the bench and broad
brought a center onto the evns. What did you What
did you make of the Storm's late changes.
Speaker 18 (35:25):
Yeah, when I looked at the late changes for the Gager,
someone okay, that's a bit. When Melmann took one very big,
powerful forwards off for a center, I don't know why
they did that. That is absolutely bonkers and I am
still so confused about why.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
That's frozen. That's good, he'll be he'll be back later.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
Too many scoops, he's back.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
He just froze momentary.
Speaker 5 (36:00):
But yeah, no, I thought it was a little odd
bringing a center onto their bench.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
But I did think I've been saying it all week.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
The Melbourne Storm was just far too big, and I
was saying all week that I thought the Dragons would
get them at the back end by working over their middle.
As it turned out, that's exactly what we did, and
it worked anyway, despite the fact that they did try
and add.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
A little bit of mobility to that side.
Speaker 5 (36:26):
Big Team pregame, no one really gave us a chance
that twenty minutes in, the Storm had all the ball,
but the store was still in the war. Were you
growing in confidence with each time we prevented them from
scoring first, or did you think the amount of events
we were doing was going to hurt us?
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Later on, I was going a bit the bath. I
was thinking, what the bloody hell are you doing? Referee?
Every time? Every time something went went against this stuffed
up their fifth tackle option. It went through about four
five fans, and they knocked it backwards all the time
every time, and then too poorly knocks it on.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
I stepped out, actually stepped out. But everything was going
against us at that time, and yeah, I was. I
was a bit down at the way the way with
the referee, what he was doing in some of those decisions.
It might have been right, it might have been wrong.
Fifty to fifty, we can get the bounce of the
ball until late in the game. And yeah, but I
(37:27):
think we still had we had the chance. We went
down to nil and then we got up six, six
to two. I thought, oh, we've got this. So we've
got this at half time at least. Anyway, Yeah, it
didn't do it.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
And then and then a pe of golf remembered who
was paining me?
Speaker 2 (37:47):
That's great? No, it wasn't that one.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
Nothing to do with peed of golf. That was just
we put their heads down. It happens all the time
with us. Five minutes before halftime, nine times out of
ten the other team will score. Try and going back
through your records, we'll find out.
Speaker 5 (38:05):
We've got a few questions a bit about that a
bit later on Sorry Earth twenty minutes we've gone a
bit ahead, But I think it did have something to
do with Peti gold, but we'll.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Get to that.
Speaker 5 (38:20):
Twenty four minutes in the storm took a penalty, y'all
attempt Did you see that as a big sign of
respect for our defense?
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Look too to a degree.
Speaker 8 (38:32):
I mean they've been inside out twenty about one hundred
times at that point and hadn't come away with anything,
So that's certainly part of it. But I also think
it might have been the mentality of Okay, it's the
conditions are pretty ordinary, you know, any points of good
points at this stage, so they may just well have
(38:54):
you know, taken it two just to just to get
some points on.
Speaker 5 (39:00):
Yeah, Yeah, Like I think it's exactly exactly as I've
praised it. It was a compliment to our defense. Like you said,
they've been down and down our end. They had about
forty tackles inside our twenty goodn't breakers. When I got
the penalty, the lot with the only the only way
we can score is to take the two. So you know,
I think that was a massive compliment to the way,
(39:22):
the fact that we had continuously just kept turning them
a lay.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
So yeah, I think it was. It was a really
it was a really good compliment.
Speaker 8 (39:32):
Yeah, I think I think the weather would have been
a factor as well, though, Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (39:39):
I mean like wet wet game.
Speaker 5 (39:41):
They they want to want to take whatever points are
on offer. But yeah, so the back to that big
big t sort of raised the Christian too. Plot two
one two plots did not step on the sideline. He
did not go out. The ruling on that one was
that the Storm put a kick in and tour Pilot
two was ruled to a player and the ball hit
(40:01):
the sideline.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
So that is why the Melbourne Storm got the ball
back on that one. Now, there's been a few people
confused as to what happened because it didn't look like
at two actually touched the sideline.
Speaker 5 (40:12):
He didn't, but the ball did beforehand, and the ruling
was too he played out and I think that's absolutely horseshit.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
I don't think at all.
Speaker 11 (40:19):
I im like Selwyn on the sideline golf.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
Yeah yeah, well, I mean so there's no one that
God had nothing to do with that decision.
Speaker 18 (40:32):
Yes he did, don't has gone the time. I mean
that should have been a hand over hand. What happened
to us was I forget.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
What happened in twenty grad final.
Speaker 5 (40:52):
Put it's not it's not like we haven't haven't benefited
from it at some point in the in the.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
And it wasn't against That's so he cares lame quick,
has given up.
Speaker 18 (41:05):
No.
Speaker 2 (41:08):
Turns away, screw you here. That's what it looked like.
Speaker 5 (41:16):
He's finally to play it.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
Now he's done a gun, he's done. They're going to
microphone off and walk out.
Speaker 11 (41:28):
Doesn't like the topic. Towe walks off the stage.
Speaker 12 (41:32):
You can say what you lug about me, but don't
you dare disparage Peter Gough Yeah, m hm, yes.
Speaker 2 (41:45):
Get me that. We we've talked a bit about him.
Speaker 5 (41:48):
The referee gave us absolutely nothing in the opening half
an hour and and it hurts badly, put us under
a lot of pressure. But one thing that I think
it did is that it brought the crowd into play.
Everyone in the direct, every one of the Dragons fans
at that game could see that we were getting screwed
by the referee and screwed moraally, just watching it from home,
(42:12):
it seemed like our crowd was more involved, more infested,
louder in this game than many others.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
We've seen in recent in the recent past.
Speaker 5 (42:22):
Talk to me about the brave souls that made it
to the ground for this game and your thoughts on them.
Speaker 11 (42:27):
Yeah, there was only six thousand there, but I could
hear there. I could hear their noise coming through the TV.
Speaker 2 (42:33):
Yeah, that was.
Speaker 11 (42:35):
There was lots lots of reasons why people couldn't go yesterday,
Like there was no trains between Willowong, it's between Camber
and Sydney. Had buses all the way to Sydney, which
wasn't good for for a game day. It was it
was there was a wet and wild day in Sydney yesterday.
But the ones who did make it, the brave souls,
I did hear on the radio. Actually someone come. There
(42:57):
was a Dragons fan that come all the way out
from Tasmania. They ticket months in advance just to come
to this game. So and he picked, he picked the
Hill of all places. So what a brave soul of
that man was shout out to you. But yeah, they were,
they were really passionate.
Speaker 2 (43:11):
They really Jesse Jesse. All the real fans did on
the hill made exactly right, exactly right, exactly right, not like.
Speaker 5 (43:28):
Not.
Speaker 11 (43:31):
No, it's great to see. We we've but when we've
said many times on this show, we want our fans
to to make some noise when we play games at home,
and and yesterday was a great sign of that. I
mean there was only six thousand there, but they still
made some noise. And yeah it was the camera was even,
gold was even. There was lots of the army was
(43:53):
was enforced there yesterday too, which was great to see.
There was always camera going on to the Kyle that
was resched up like a chick. I don't know if
anyone saw that.
Speaker 5 (44:06):
The Bucks party, they kept going and going to him
on the screen. Luke Duckett, I think he's come up
with a very good rule here, Luke. Is that the
rule going forward that we're not allowed to sell our
home games anymore?
Speaker 11 (44:21):
Yes, what best thing was every time we've had to
sell out we lost.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
Yeah, he's getting.
Speaker 11 (44:30):
Our next game to do. We our next game, the
next game games at Win, the six pm Friday game,
So we're going to get a six thousand crowd there too.
Speaker 2 (44:39):
Just just tell all the fans stay at home watching
on the TV. We didn't fans and hey, that's all
we need. We don't want to put too much pressure
on the players with the crowd. That's what we need
to do to win, and that's what we need to do.
(45:01):
Liam talking about the crowd, the crowd earned us our
first penalty of the day thirty one minute into the game.
Mind dude.
Speaker 5 (45:10):
Then we got to set restart in the lead up
to our first tribal with Guffo laying it on a
platter for our homes. I want to talk about about
the performance of the boat, but first of all, I'll
give you our homes.
Speaker 2 (45:25):
Mate, what did you think of our homes performance on yesterday?
Speaker 18 (45:33):
Attacking wise, he was He's brilliant the friendly. It's hard
to pick and shoes on how he went yesterday. Otherwise
I think he just went your average yesterday.
Speaker 2 (45:54):
Wow, I that was the second best on the field.
Speaker 5 (45:58):
I thought he was absolutely seen Safan on an attack
every time he cut back on the inside that he
was making players miss. I thought he was outstanding defensively,
got caught out of position a couple of times, but
worked really hard to scramble and get across and save
a few tries. I thought val had had a phenomenal game.
I thought he was his best game in red and white.
(46:21):
I'm not sure what games you watch sometimes.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
That I guess that the big the big criticism of
Valve has probably been his goal kicking. That has been
a bit of a factor.
Speaker 5 (46:37):
But let's let's have a look at hatsman actually brought
this up, but let's have a bit of a look at.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
He's got a.
Speaker 5 (46:45):
Goal here with the Melbourne Storm player. He's seen him
there waving the white flag to distract.
Speaker 2 (46:51):
Him, and we just bring this up.
Speaker 7 (46:59):
It's this is the actual rule that says that it
is illegal to attempt to distract the attention of the
player who is taking the kicked goals.
Speaker 5 (47:10):
So this has been said, just another one of the
many things that that got missed in this contest. And
yeah that I mean he would have been well within
his rights to give him another attempted goal. What are
your what are your thoughts on that big.
Speaker 2 (47:28):
T exactly right.
Speaker 3 (47:31):
If the if the players trying to distract him from
the from the flag around front of the towel around
he has to tell you is that does that come
from a strut riding in front?
Speaker 2 (47:40):
Because of the penalty, I believe, I believe the rule
is he gets another attempt from the exact same spot.
All right, fair enough, Well, if that's the rule, he
missed it. He should have had another spot, another shot.
He shouldn't. You're you're a referees expert. What what are
your your thoughts?
Speaker 5 (48:01):
You've got another attempt because of the distraction or the
fact that the guy stopped doing it when the referee
told him to stop.
Speaker 2 (48:08):
That was that sufficient? Mute? He's on mute. It's not
a picture.
Speaker 17 (48:19):
Where is he?
Speaker 2 (48:20):
He's frozen, frozen, He's frozen.
Speaker 5 (48:25):
He's gone again, He's gone.
Speaker 2 (48:30):
He's not having the.
Speaker 5 (48:32):
Best time technological wives today. Lamb, you're you're in a
dead zone today. I know what's happening.
Speaker 2 (48:40):
You're just to chuck your hand up there as well.
Speaker 11 (48:44):
I've seen it happen actually a few times in the past. Well,
when when Penrith played Coronella in Vegas, checked someone that
they felt clearly when he was trying to kick.
Speaker 2 (48:53):
You don't if you remember that. And and a few
years ago that was in the crowd though, wasn't it.
That wasn't a player, no.
Speaker 11 (49:01):
But and then and then one time many years ago,
I remember Corey Parker was playing over in the UK and.
Speaker 2 (49:09):
Against it.
Speaker 11 (49:10):
It was a World Club Series game. The Dragons went
over there the same year when they had the free
clubs go over and the Broncos were playing Wigan I
think it was. And Parker was having a shot right
in front of the posts and the Wigan bloke come
over and put his hands down as he was striking
the ball, so yeah, and he got another attempt to
(49:32):
go there. So yeah, it should have happened to vow
there in that instance as well.
Speaker 18 (49:36):
I think exactly right, yeah, yeah, I don't guys, hear
me loud and me now.
Speaker 2 (49:45):
Yeah you're back, yes we can, you're baby, I have
been now for now, I like, what day with you?
For the next question.
Speaker 5 (50:00):
Then Jekis has managed he'll be back in a minute.
And the other player involved in setting up that try
was that was captain Clint Gatherson. I actually wanted to
Benny was spoken to beyond the Night. And I was
going to give in this question because I know he's
not hasn't been really impressed with Gutto, But what's been
your your impression of Guto's influence on this team and
the opening few rounds?
Speaker 11 (50:21):
Well, he's he's our linck Man. As big T said,
he was the heart and soul of Paramounter and right
now he's taken his experience from there and he's really
brought a breath of fresh air into our team. And
he's really shown a lot of his leadership qualities. I've
even seen in some chats that he's the new Cameron Smith,
(50:42):
the one chatting of the referees all the time. But now, No,
he's really been a great acquisition for us so far,
and I'm really being impressed what he's done. And he
was really that passion he was shown yesterday that really
meant a lot when he at full time. You see
his reaction when he went like when he when he
when he when when he wanted he was, he was pumped,
(51:05):
he was really popped.
Speaker 2 (51:06):
I think I think he might have made a bit
more noise than that. I couldn't You've probably only seen
a photo, but my guess is said the video, what
do you forget?
Speaker 11 (51:20):
The sound was Donnie, come.
Speaker 2 (51:21):
On, I reckon. It was more like he's going too loud.
He's going too loud. He's just breaking his mind, just
like he did with nine. You know, to say that.
Speaker 3 (51:41):
How many gyss did Ben what's his face? I think
his name's I'm Mac then imc that guy you know who?
I mean thinking about about twenty five? If he was
thirty something, Goesson? It was almost got seven.
Speaker 2 (51:58):
Gothinson has got seventy three games.
Speaker 5 (52:02):
Yeah, I mean you could find I reckon, you could
find you could probably find three games where Ben Hunt
had fifteen.
Speaker 2 (52:10):
So I mean we now scored fifteen across three games.
I reckon we might have maybe Yeah. Yeah, again, who
gives a fuck about Ben Hunt? Like, why are we
still doing? I think his middle names iMac? Yeah, how
(52:34):
there it? Who do I have to? Has Ben's back?
So I'll come back to you late in the half.
This is something that big T spoke about. So late
in half.
Speaker 5 (52:47):
The referee once again had his influence on the game.
He pinged Dylan Egan for a hand on the ball.
Despite the fact the Storm got an extremely quick play.
The ball gave them a set restart that got them
on a roll, got them heading forward, and then rather
breakthrough and score a try right on half time after
(53:09):
working so hard, This was was very deflating. Did you
think that the players might use this momentum changing moment
as an excuse to not come out of the sheds
for the.
Speaker 2 (53:19):
Second half.
Speaker 8 (53:22):
Look in previous seasons, Yes, but I think with I
think Flannel would have had a had a word to
him about about that. He would he would know that
that's happened to us before. And I also don't think
Gotho would have let him do it either.
Speaker 4 (53:43):
And he's he seems.
Speaker 2 (53:47):
He is an excuse last game against South to quit.
So I mean you say.
Speaker 4 (53:54):
They just didn't listen to him. I don't know what
happened in the South game. I don't give a sure
what happened in the House game. That's that's yesterday's. But
he knew papers.
Speaker 8 (54:01):
I don't give a ship. And we're talking about the
Melbourne game, and as far as I'm concerned, they could
have used an excuse, but they didn't.
Speaker 5 (54:13):
Did you did you think there was as a fan
that has followed this team and seen has quit at
halftime because of much lesser situations, much lesser scenarios than that.
I mean, at halftime, what we what were you thinking?
Were you thinking we fucking got this mob on the
on the rack? Or were you thinking that try is
going to change everything and the dragons just are kind
(54:34):
of come out of the ship. What were you thinking
at halftime?
Speaker 8 (54:38):
I was thinking, well, you know what I was thinking.
I was thinking about COMPETI goff and you know, talk
an old school torture device.
Speaker 4 (54:49):
But no, that's a look. I had the feeling that, Okay,
they might get a bit hitty about it, but I
don't think they're going to to water just because of that.
Speaker 2 (55:03):
Yeah, okay, fair enough, I'm gonna say. Oh, I was
actually in the same boat.
Speaker 5 (55:11):
I was mighty proud of the team at half time,
only down by a couple and I thought we were
right in it. I thought we were right in the
hunt and every chance of winning. And you know, my
thoughts were that that forty.
Speaker 2 (55:27):
Minute effort was fantastic.
Speaker 5 (55:29):
But if we did come out and lose by forty
then it was all for absolutely nothing, and we couldn't
blame the referee if we didn't come out of the
sheds for the second half.
Speaker 2 (55:40):
All right, well down by a couple at lamb. The
Dragon's got.
Speaker 5 (55:47):
A chance to level the schools sort of twelve meters
in from touch. They decided to take the two points,
and Jesse, I know you were keen to take the two,
but Benny and myself were in the group chat where
we sort of weren't too sure it was the right decision. Then,
what your thoughts was, was this the right call to
(56:07):
take the two.
Speaker 2 (56:10):
Forgetting the fact that we actually missed the shot, but
was it the right decision tactically to have have a
go at the two points to try and level up
from there.
Speaker 18 (56:20):
When I was watching the game yesterday and I was like, yes,
tack to two at half time, I was with JESSI
tap to two to the level about half time so
we can have a clean slate half time to put
more points on the ball.
Speaker 2 (56:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (56:36):
Yeah, My thoughts were we we've actually been under pressure
again to start that second half.
Speaker 2 (56:41):
It wasn't a gimme. It was only just over ten
leaguers in from touch. I thought, that's a hard hit.
That's not that's not an.
Speaker 5 (56:48):
Easy kick for it for a guy that's been struggling
with the boot under presure to try and level the game.
Speaker 2 (56:55):
I didn't think it was a great decision, and you
know what, I not it went over.
Speaker 5 (57:00):
But when you miss those ones, it again is another
excuse that the Dragons could have used to give up.
And you know they got the ball back because it
didn't have a kick. It dead hit the post and
went straight back to the store. So it didn't turn
out to be a great great decision in hindsight. The
second one, big team, the Dragon's got another.
Speaker 2 (57:23):
Chance to level the score. Second penalty goal.
Speaker 5 (57:26):
Although it was rid in front, Benny once again didn't
want to take it this one.
Speaker 2 (57:31):
I disagreed with Benny. It talks to you again your thoughts.
Were you happy to take the two there?
Speaker 3 (57:36):
I have it taken two there for sure. If we
hadn't gone for the four, I would have been happy
with that as well. But I've got it even up.
Speaker 2 (57:44):
It was what minutes to go?
Speaker 3 (57:47):
I think it was when we took that second shot
at goal. I said when we took the first one
at twenty eight, add minutes to go, Well we've got
to take this, We've got to take this. So yeah,
both goals one hundred percent we should have attempted them.
Speaker 5 (58:01):
I certainly think the second one right in front, you
take that, that's a gimme. The first one I just
didn't think it was a It wasn't a GIMMI. It
wasn't an easy kick. So that's why I would have
preferred to keep the pressure on in that situation. But yeah,
certainly the second one. I mean, that's what good teams do.
I think desperate teams, desperate teams that have forgotten how
(58:23):
to win. They're the teams that go, ah, we need
more than two points to win this game, so we'll
tap and we'll keep the pressure on, rather.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
Than leveling the game and backing your back, backing your
systems and processes. So I was happy to take that
second one.
Speaker 5 (58:38):
Has Man, I know you've got a lead probably after
this question, so I'll give you this last one. We've
talked a lot about decisions that went against us during
this game, but as sixty five minutes in, Ellie Kataa
rose above Cole Flanagan for a try, but the bunker
took it off. Now, personally, if this try was that
(58:59):
was taken off us, I'd be fuming.
Speaker 2 (59:02):
What are you? What are your thoughts on this one?
Speaker 8 (59:05):
H Look to the letter of the law. It was
the right decision. Whether that law needs to be changed
as up for after debate. But well, fair play to
Casey Badger. She did she did her job. You made
the correct ruling. Sure, if that will been against us,
I probably would have I'd probably be thinking slightly differently.
Speaker 5 (59:28):
But a.
Speaker 8 (59:32):
A it benefited the dragons be at disadvantaged Melbourne, So
that's as far as I'm concerned.
Speaker 4 (59:39):
That's a ticket every box. Yeah, well well done, Casey Badger.
Speaker 11 (59:43):
I can't believe you said that.
Speaker 2 (59:44):
Has Man.
Speaker 4 (59:48):
It's amazing what a win will do to a man.
Speaker 2 (59:51):
Screws through the storm.
Speaker 5 (59:54):
Again one that that is technically the right decision, but
I think the rule needs to be fixed. I think
it's a bit of a like on the game Kato
won that contest, took clean posession and scored, but slow
motion high definition, you just find a way to take
a try away from somebody that deserved to try. Maybe
it's square f Ledger though somewhat because I feel we
(01:00:16):
got screwed plenty in this game.
Speaker 2 (01:00:18):
I don't particularly like the call, but I like the
fact that lint in our favor. But we want to
say good night that has been there because I know
you've got got to take off.
Speaker 10 (01:00:27):
Mate.
Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
Thanks for joining us. Oh Man's going to go to bed.
Speaker 4 (01:00:33):
I'm gonna go watch the game again.
Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
Good stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:00:39):
See you guys have your much.
Speaker 5 (01:00:42):
Well we'll keep going. Okay, well, now we get into
the good stuff. Lett, let's have a look at this.
So this was this was my reaction to probably the
biggest moment in the game. And Jesse, get you to
give us your your reaction after we play this little clip.
Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
Come on, boys, get.
Speaker 17 (01:01:10):
Off the ball.
Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
Yeah, whoa.
Speaker 11 (01:01:33):
My thoughts exactly. Yeah, and he just came on. He's
only on like for a minute or so when he
did that. So he's been impressive ever since he's been
off that bench. But yeah, he's like an energizer bunny,
some of the things he's done since coming off the
bench this year. I'm not saying that he didn't have
(01:01:53):
a good year last year, but yeah, he's been great.
And then yeah, he caught torrn wish out off guard
there when he went over from Dummy Arf and yeah
he was he was great. Jacob Little And yeah, I
had a pretty similar reaction to you. I was at
the at the local club watching it, and really I
nearly spilled me here when I when I was watching that.
(01:02:14):
But yeah, it was very very good from Jacob Little
and yeah, very underrated player, but boy we're lucky to
have him in. Yeah, great, great turning point in the game.
The last twelve minutes of that, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
Cheering that loud nearly split my stitches.
Speaker 11 (01:02:35):
Oh big take wish up forty, wish up forty had him.
Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
He was smiling.
Speaker 17 (01:02:42):
He's let him walk.
Speaker 19 (01:02:42):
He's just let him walk, has been. He's off to walk.
Mats Accord. I've been hearing a lot of people. I've
been had a lot of people talking about a Little,
how how special player he was at the Tigers. They
thought I thought Little was going to be like Rory
Mnel said that X factor. I thought he'd build a
(01:03:05):
team around him. And then he done to two A
cls and started to falling back as first choice hooker
and then we got him.
Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
So happened like he was he was a junior kangaroo.
Speaker 5 (01:03:18):
There's schoolboys, school boy with kangaroo and yeah, an absolute
gun of a player.
Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
We've got a few of them now in our journeyors
now that played at that same level. Big things expected
of them. But Jacob Little, like so many, just had
a horrible run with injuries, and now.
Speaker 5 (01:03:37):
That he's able to put together some consistent seasons, we're
starting to see why he was so highly thought of
as as a kid coming through the ranks. I personally like,
I'll go to you on this, Lamb, but I personally
think Jacob Little is still being underutilized. We need to
get more than thirty minutes out of him. What are
your thoughts on that.
Speaker 18 (01:03:58):
I have to grave your day. He's been really I'm
under years by the coach. I reckon we put him
as our staying on and having Damian Cook coming off
the bench.
Speaker 2 (01:04:12):
Yeah, I don't know about that.
Speaker 5 (01:04:14):
I still like what Cookie is doing as a starter.
I think that's not a bad role. And we saw
Cook come on at the back end of that game
again to play in a different sort of role, and I.
Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
Think that's not necessarily bad.
Speaker 5 (01:04:29):
I just think I'd like to see Little get on
at the back end of the first half that's sort
of last five minutes of the half and try and
just run a few times and create some headaches in
around and some tie forwards at the back end of
the first half and play the entire second half with
Cook coming on as that running forward again, you know
that last twenty minutes or so.
Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
I think there's different.
Speaker 5 (01:04:52):
Ways that we could do it, but it just seems
that at the moment, Chain Funn again has got fifty
minutes to cook and then Little comes up the last
thirty and that's that's the plan, and that's what we're
going to do, no matter the situation. And I thought
even in that game yesterday, there was a time where
the Storm was starting to look like they were laboring
a little bit, and I thought there was an opportunity
(01:05:13):
for Little to come on in and maybe maybe I'll
get that late try rather than the Storm getting that
late try.
Speaker 2 (01:05:20):
But there's a lot better yesterday. Cook was good. Men.
Speaker 5 (01:05:26):
It's hard to find a player fifty tackles to Cook.
He worked his art off and you could just see
that he was absolutely rooted when when he did go
off for a breather, and certainly at the end of
the game.
Speaker 11 (01:05:38):
And running game too, which was which is what he strengthens.
Speaker 5 (01:05:43):
Yeah, he did did a lot of good things. Another
man that did a lot of good things was this bloke,
Big t. I'll play this one and then get to
get your reaction to this.
Speaker 20 (01:05:58):
Smarter handow in Stuyah, Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:06:13):
Yeah, monstrous.
Speaker 3 (01:06:18):
I think I think I said exact same words. I
think I said the exact same words. I am like
I was again, I know he spped my stitches. I
jumped up in chair like a minute and a half
to go. Whatever it was that they were going to
get the ball back. I thought, oh, here we go,
here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
They're gonna get the ball back. Come on, and so
we did that sort of sure a catsman, but it
was no seventy five percent. So that did that. That's
why he got my Man of the match. But yeah,
it was just a fantastic effort. It reminded me of
the Cooper Effer at the other end, but reversed roles.
That's absolutely fantastic. It was great. I loved it.
Speaker 11 (01:07:00):
That put the nail on the Storm's coffin that one
I did.
Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
Did we've got the ball back? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:07:07):
Yeah, he played because it was it was a huge
vine and and at that stage so it was was broken.
He'd already heard he was or whatever whatever it is.
Speaker 11 (01:07:17):
So and he had a neck He picked up a
neck injury at training as well. I read today he
had problem. So pretty pretty great effort. It was only
on Thursday, did it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:30):
Yeah, let's let's let let's have a look at the
back end of that video as well as desperate challenge
from a bunch of songs.
Speaker 11 (01:07:50):
Absolutely soft challenge from Melbourne. Oh he tackled me too hard.
Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
Desperation come on, didn't go to him.
Speaker 11 (01:08:04):
Here we go, Come on, boys, come on.
Speaker 20 (01:08:11):
Thirty seconds.
Speaker 2 (01:08:15):
Now I need to play. Let alone, Let alone? That alone.
Speaker 1 (01:08:24):
Came over?
Speaker 14 (01:08:27):
Yeah, what.
Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
Did you do?
Speaker 17 (01:08:33):
Backflips in the pit in the pool?
Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
Doney?
Speaker 17 (01:08:34):
After that?
Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
The Movene storm are our bodies two and around.
Speaker 2 (01:08:41):
They can't lead us, they don't know how.
Speaker 17 (01:08:44):
Yeah, and two of the was it backflips in the pool?
Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
No? No, no backflips like all both the pools are
big green at the moment. Two of their last three
and what what do you think of that? That that
last last challenge from the Melbourne store.
Speaker 11 (01:09:09):
Just it was just a desperation. They they needed the
ball back if they were going to force s goldan
point and it was just a desperation challenge off for
what Yep, there was it was a fair tackle. It
was an amazing effort from Jade. So it was it
was amazing tackle and to put him back in goal. Yep,
(01:09:29):
that was the one that definitely put the icing on
the cake for as.
Speaker 2 (01:09:32):
That's for sure.
Speaker 11 (01:09:35):
Massive effort. As I said, not not, you wouldn't expect
anything less from an origin background.
Speaker 5 (01:09:42):
No, no, again, I thought it was was huge from
Jayd and sewell, but it wasn't just that that moment
for me. For it was it was our best throughout
the game and that moment just capped it off to
the point where I couldn't see anybody else being being
a man of the match other than Jade and Sewer.
Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
I thought he was was fantastic.
Speaker 5 (01:10:03):
He was aggressive, he ripped in and he worked hard.
There was none of those defensive lapses that we've seen
in the last couple of weeks either. He was he
was good in all areas and was was a massy
like he's he's our yardstick for me. He's up and
about and playing well. I think he's the guy that
(01:10:24):
actually carries the rest.
Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
Of the team.
Speaker 5 (01:10:25):
A lot of people talking about gut though, but still
is the guy that has been there since you know,
he's been there for a number of years. He's the
guy that the blokes follow for Fowe he's the lead
by example guy. I know he's not a talkers, so
he's not he's not a captain, but he's a guy
that you just watch what he does on the field
and when he he doesn't say follow me, but he
(01:10:47):
does it with his actions and just drags everybody else.
Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
Up with him.
Speaker 11 (01:10:52):
As they say on the actions speak louder than words.
Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
Yes, yes, they certainly do at times. Right, we'll go
into it a couple of individual player performances.
Speaker 5 (01:11:03):
I thought we've already I've already gone to Land about
this player earlier on, but i'll go to you then,
big t hard to find a bad player.
Speaker 16 (01:11:12):
Let's start with the debutop Dog. And he looks a keeper,
doesn't he? He does the lotle keeper absolutely foresure. He
hits hard, he runs hard. He made a couple of
ten fifteen runs there, made a couple of runs. I
think he made sixty meters off six runs. So you
get to about twenty five tackles something anyway, pretty close.
(01:11:36):
But yeah, he tackles tackles, wasn't I just haven't got
it in front of.
Speaker 3 (01:11:41):
Him, like like Liam said, he got he got one
point for me, But that was also I thought he
played a really good debut game, probably our best debut
of the last five.
Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
But yeah, I think he really kept it off. I
think he's going to be there for a one long
time that you've already spoken about.
Speaker 18 (01:12:08):
Yeah, yeah, Joel, for the rest of the season. I
could see, oh sure, for the rest of the season.
I could see then Egan and Hamish Stewart being on
the bench. The King Brayman Camaron are out and whoever
(01:12:28):
Oak and whoever maybe by out of the team as well.
Speaker 2 (01:12:38):
Again, I think they've learned that, right. I think they're
both well.
Speaker 5 (01:12:43):
I still think Hamie Stewart he's not going to play
the whole season on the bench. He will drop back
to New South past Cup at some point. You don't
want you don't want these guys that you know eighteen
nineteen playing every single game of the season. You won't
coming up playing five or six weeks. Now, go back
with rest of your body. Like Hamis Stewart was battered
(01:13:03):
and bruised. He saw his face like he's been cleared
of a fracture. But which is which is great news,
but you know it takes it out of you physically
doing it every week. I think Hamis Stewart might not
be too far away from getting a week back in
lower grades or even a week off as as eighteenth
man and give give somebody else a crack.
Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
But I guess it will come down.
Speaker 5 (01:13:24):
To who's available, and if there are a few injuries
then he might have to play a few more games
in succession. But now they're doing a great job. They're
certainly not letting us down. And I don't disagree with
you with all there, leone. I think they're doing incredibly well.
And Egan, I think Egan's one hundred percent ready for
NRL week in week out. He's he had He had
(01:13:46):
that twelve month, he got held back for a whole year,
played almost every minute of the New South Wales Cup
last year and he needed it. He wasn't ready and
he needed that time in New South walest Cup and
he's been brought in when he's ready. Like I know,
as fans, we we want Locker Tonga in tomorrow, we
want in our latter to play next week. We want
(01:14:09):
these guys in the side immediately. But we've got to
trust that the guys that the coaching staff that are
seeing these guys day in day out know when.
Speaker 2 (01:14:19):
They're they're physically and mentally ready to come into the
top grade. And like we saw with Dylan and even
when he gets his chance, he will get his chance
when the coaching staff knows that he's ready.
Speaker 5 (01:14:30):
So I yeah, I think the coaching staff doing a
good job and fans need to need to keep that patience.
Speaker 11 (01:14:37):
Jessey like and King Togger is another one. I've seen
many people call for it to go up to first grade.
But he looked good in cup yesterday and again, like
what you're saying, he will get his chance when when
thinks he's ready.
Speaker 2 (01:14:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:14:51):
Again, you trust the coaching staff to make the right
decision and that they certainly have made the right call
with with.
Speaker 2 (01:14:57):
With Dylan Egan, they expect take it's another go.
Speaker 11 (01:15:02):
Well what about that running made that led to a penalty.
That's what I spoke about. I said that was a
key moment in the game. Cookie said that too, huge
moment in the game. We've got a penalty off that
and that's where Jacob Little went over and scored that
try at the end of that set, So it was
a huge moment in the game.
Speaker 2 (01:15:18):
Yeah, Gary, Gary disagreed. He wants them all in tomorrow
and then we can play the West Tigers and we
can run.
Speaker 21 (01:15:23):
Laugh.
Speaker 2 (01:15:23):
But yeah, we've given all the kids a crack. That's
what the West Tigers see last year.
Speaker 5 (01:15:31):
Last year they just decided we're not gonna we're not
we're not gonna win the conquen, we're not going to compete.
Speaker 2 (01:15:36):
For the yep, we're not going to complete to the title.
Speaker 5 (01:15:39):
So we're just going to put all our kids in
and they got every single one of their kids got
a chance last year and they.
Speaker 2 (01:15:44):
Got a wooden Spoon as a result.
Speaker 5 (01:15:46):
I mean, that's that's what happens if you go down
that path, and you know it's it's working well for
the Tigers now because they've got that that experience into
the young kids. But if you're going to do that
expect against Spoon, that's I mean, it's okay, it's a tactic.
Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
If you're you're happy to have that be your rock
bottom good time. I don't think too many Dragons fans
are looking to get it get a little so no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
that's surprise. We don't want.
Speaker 5 (01:16:20):
Lab another bloke making he's club to who was David
clever hands?
Speaker 2 (01:16:25):
He game I Reckon.
Speaker 18 (01:16:27):
He went all right. I wouldn't say it was his
the best club w but like you me, just in
there as the guys on the punnel, we've just been
calling for that X factor in the forward park, just
to go up and beyond. And even if he was
a little bit under match fitness after coming from the Tigers,
(01:16:54):
wasn't it Yeah Tigers. He hasn't even played games since
he came over to US, so match fitness wise, I
don't think it was really well out. But overall I
think it was a really good club debut for David Klama.
Speaker 17 (01:17:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
Yeah, A lot a lot of a lot of people
use the match fitness thing.
Speaker 5 (01:17:15):
I think match fitness was a big thing twenty years
ago when the twenty thirty years ago when they were
part time had full time jobs and you know they
just they did Tuesday and Thursday and showed up on
the weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
I think it's full time professionals.
Speaker 5 (01:17:30):
You don't see you know, you don't seek Cameron Monster
come back back through reserve rate.
Speaker 2 (01:17:35):
You know, these broves do not match fitness is it's
not really a thing.
Speaker 5 (01:17:40):
They're able to do really good match sim as full
time professionals and get that sort of level of fitnesses
that's required to play at the top level without having
to play games.
Speaker 2 (01:17:51):
I don't think match fitness is a big, big issue.
Speaker 5 (01:17:54):
I think David Klamer, he could have played fifty sixty
minutes in that game, would have been fine, but that
wasn't the role that he was after playing he came.
Speaker 2 (01:18:03):
On did twenty five minutes.
Speaker 5 (01:18:05):
We wanted that side to match Melbourne physically early and
I think he did a good job.
Speaker 2 (01:18:10):
Big too, Aan Johnson.
Speaker 3 (01:18:13):
They're saying that he first tackle he hit up and
then els knees quick playing the ball and we were moving.
We start they started the movement in that first first set.
So yeah, but then yeah, okay, carry on.
Speaker 2 (01:18:27):
Yeah right, whilse we got Well, I'll go to you,
Jess m Ray. Dramer been under.
Speaker 5 (01:18:34):
Some pressure after a couple of subpart performances. How did
you rake him in this game?
Speaker 15 (01:18:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (01:18:42):
Fifty to fifty. I mean he did some good runs,
but probably his better game of the three, but nothing spectacular.
Solid but nothing spectacular. Yeah, I did his job, but yeah,
nothing outstanding. But looks like we'll be out without him
for the next three weeks or so.
Speaker 5 (01:19:04):
We'll get to get to that a little later, but yeah,
I think I think it was certainly his best performance
so far and improved performance and that that's well.
Speaker 2 (01:19:14):
I guess you could ask for a lot more, but
you want.
Speaker 5 (01:19:17):
Your players to be getting better as the season goes on,
and I think it was a was a better performance
for Emory. I think we still need more from him.
He's a big bloke. He needs to impose himself on
the game a little bit more. He's got a different
role at the Dragons to what he had at Canberra.
He was, you know, a guy that would come off
the bench and play a bench role, whereas here he's
(01:19:39):
our main he's one of.
Speaker 2 (01:19:40):
Our main big men. With David Klamer coming to the
side now to help him out a little bit.
Speaker 5 (01:19:44):
But he's a he's a guy that we looked to
for that his physical presence out on the field. So
I think we need it need a little bit more
from him, But it was was an improved performance for me. Now,
big team Lachlanillius came came into this game under all
sorts to pressure.
Speaker 2 (01:20:00):
How did you break his game? Well?
Speaker 3 (01:20:03):
They both both our halves played well. The mad tackles
missed miss any miss for between them.
Speaker 2 (01:20:11):
Yeah, I thought.
Speaker 3 (01:20:12):
I thought both our halves had a good, good game,
feeding out, feeding it outside outside backs, and yeah, kicking game.
Speaker 2 (01:20:20):
Kicking game is good. He's got to find that flat kick.
Speaker 3 (01:20:22):
But he's going to find the flat kick because half
backs don't get tackled anymore when they kick the ball.
So you're gonna find what Jamie Soud used to do.
I said, allion times flat kick hits the grass, takes
them longer to get to the ball because us more
time down there.
Speaker 2 (01:20:37):
Yeah. No, again, I thought he was a guy that
did his job. He played his role to perfect.
Speaker 5 (01:20:44):
He didn't overplay his hand, and I think that was
That was probably my fear after copying the criticism from
from Shane Flanagan pretty publicly during the week and everybody
talking about it like you might try and what that
that that where he's out, but everybody would have been
talking about it very very difficult for a young player
(01:21:04):
to try and block that out. So my my fear
was that he was going to come in and try
and prove everybody wrong and overplay his hand.
Speaker 2 (01:21:12):
He didn't do that. He did what he had to do.
Speaker 3 (01:21:16):
He's not to say that Funny handled him correctly. And
he's worked out. He's worked out that Illius needs to
kick in the ass. That's what he needs, and I
want to do it publicly.
Speaker 2 (01:21:33):
And that that that's what I was.
Speaker 5 (01:21:35):
Saying during the week. Shane Flanagan doesn't. He doesn't do
that by accident. That wasn't a mistake or a slip
of the tongue. That was shame Flannagan saying what he
needed to say. He needed his player to hear that
criticism and he was hoping to get that sort of
response from him.
Speaker 2 (01:21:55):
Yeah. I don't think it was. It was a mistake.
Speaker 3 (01:21:58):
Some kids need to become some kids need to be kicked,
and he's worked out the earliest needs to be have
a kick up the bump.
Speaker 2 (01:22:06):
Yeah, yeah, now you're you're right.
Speaker 5 (01:22:08):
Wayne Bennett is obviously the marker of the master of
that knowing, knowing who which which players need a bit
of a bit of a cuddle and the umping up
and which respond to to a bit of tough love.
I didn't actually have this one, this one written down,
but I did have a comment come through from me
(01:22:29):
and Johnson, so I might go to you with this one.
Scoop ian Ian Johnson talking about Lucci La saying that
he had a good game.
Speaker 2 (01:22:37):
Another player that is coming from a bit of criticism,
How did you think Luke went?
Speaker 18 (01:22:42):
I think he went really good yesterday. He was like
Jade and Sewart just attacking on the attacking side. I
think they went really well and bending they were just
chopping the Melbourne players in half with the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:23:00):
Yeah, No, I thought it was.
Speaker 5 (01:23:02):
It was a higher effort game from from Lucia. I
thought he was a lot more involved in this game
than he has been in recent weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:23:10):
So yeah, I think it was. It was a good
effort from him. What move now into some some questions
from fans.
Speaker 5 (01:23:18):
You're on the Mad Dragons podcast, brought to you by
Complete Warehouse Solutions, and the first one it's not a question,
but we as the Mad Dragons Podcast, we weren't the
only ones excited by this performance.
Speaker 2 (01:23:35):
Check this out from Martinez Connollius Bethts.
Speaker 11 (01:24:04):
Listen to that all day.
Speaker 18 (01:24:08):
I'm sure it's one big tea doing it.
Speaker 17 (01:24:12):
That's oh, he's gone for encore.
Speaker 2 (01:24:34):
I've known this bloke for fourteen years. Let's starts flying
the trumpet.
Speaker 17 (01:24:40):
You have to get that one lark, big Tea.
Speaker 3 (01:24:43):
I can ask him to come on if you're up
with to he maney bestess, good good Blake, good Blake.
You grew up with my cousin's in Ingleburg and I've
known him since he's probably about between twelve and fifteen.
I've known him for that long ago, so about forty
forty years.
Speaker 2 (01:25:04):
There's another he's crazy, actually crazy enough.
Speaker 11 (01:25:07):
I don't know if you've heard this new article come
through today. We're in the headlines for the wrong reasons.
Another Dragons fan in trouble.
Speaker 18 (01:25:15):
Come on, a third in a row.
Speaker 11 (01:25:19):
Okay, here is the news. A spectator was booted out
of Coger Oval on Saturday after making a homophobic sir
at referee Peter Gough at halftime. Gough was walking out
of the field, actually stopped and pointed out the spectator
to security officials, who immediately escorted him out of the ground.
A club official in the tunnel who preferred not to
(01:25:40):
be named, confirmed the incident has been quite surprising because
the guy concerned is a long time Dragons fan who's
been coming to games for years. He yelled out, goth,
you are an effing cheating and the referee stopped, looked
him in the eye and then alerted him straight to security.
They didn't muck around and took it, took him straight
out of the ground. Come on, Dragons fans, wake up.
Speaker 18 (01:26:05):
It's a further end of Bloody Row.
Speaker 2 (01:26:10):
Yeah, yeah, no, that's something that Dragon's fans in general
have gotta gotta cut that ship out. You know, it's
it's not on. I understand the frustration. We've played a
goth and and the officiating, but yeah, no, I mean,
it's it's it's just something you can't do.
Speaker 5 (01:26:30):
If you can, you can throw a little bit of
a bit of abuse at the referee, that's you know
that that that's that's fair enough. But if you go
into homophobic slurs, then you're going to get kicked out.
You're just you're just going to be removed from the venue.
That is, that's just something that's not not allowed in
the in modern society. It's something that is dead and
(01:26:51):
buried and you've got to cut that ship out.
Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
We're better than that. So yeah, that's that's that's disappointing.
But we've got a couple more.
Speaker 5 (01:27:02):
I don't know what this one is, Jesse, I'm not
sure what this one is from Rory McDonald, J D B.
Penalty for hands on the ball. Do you remember the
incident that Rory is talking about.
Speaker 11 (01:27:14):
The loose carry?
Speaker 2 (01:27:16):
It was at all It was in that that.
Speaker 3 (01:27:21):
It was in that little sequence where lel got done
for pushing his head across to the other side of
the room, the other side of the field. I didn't
think it was any wrong with that either. And Egan
I think was the first. The first there was three
penalties in the row and he had he had his
knees in there, I think, But yeah, he.
Speaker 2 (01:27:40):
Did lose the ball.
Speaker 17 (01:27:41):
Ye, the bloke's going to hang on the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:27:44):
I think.
Speaker 5 (01:27:46):
I think that was one where if I'm remembering it correctly,
that was it. I can't remember who it was, but
I remember thinking that he didn't have a challenge, so
he couldn't challenge it. If they if they had a
ruled against Melbourne, I don't think they would have challenged it.
(01:28:06):
So again, I mean that's probably another another another question there, Lamb.
Speaker 2 (01:28:14):
I mean Gutho wasting our captain's challenging like the first
minute of the game, and I mean he did some
good things, Guto, but this was probably one of the
stupidest things he did.
Speaker 17 (01:28:26):
HM.
Speaker 18 (01:28:27):
What was the challenge about I think I missed a part.
Speaker 2 (01:28:31):
He helped, he helps held somebody back.
Speaker 3 (01:28:35):
Yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (01:28:38):
Thought they helped each other back. Guffo clearly held him back.
He grabbed him around the chest that's up in front
of him. Yeah, I disagree.
Speaker 5 (01:28:51):
I think guth they were just competing. There was no
no tugging or pulling or anything like that. And then
the guy got past him and Gutho tried to drag
him back.
Speaker 2 (01:29:01):
And that was the way I asked the word. I
thought it was pretty clear, but Guta obviously thought.
Speaker 5 (01:29:06):
Differently, and I thought it was a terrible challenge and
was never going to be overturned and a bit of
a waste.
Speaker 2 (01:29:12):
A minute into the game.
Speaker 18 (01:29:14):
I was going to say, don doesn't duff I have
a bad reputation for captain challenges. Somethretty sure he does.
Speaker 2 (01:29:23):
I'm not feeling you have to ask Paramatta fans made.
I didn't watch enough of it until he came to
the Dragons.
Speaker 11 (01:29:29):
They did say it on the radar he has the
worst captain challenge record in the NRL worst. I was
on the board.
Speaker 2 (01:29:35):
It was okay, yeah there, yeah, well your anecdotal evidence
was was spot on. You probably heard it as well.
You probably heard the same thing and tried to pretend
like you just I just thought it, Yeah, made all right.
(01:30:00):
We do have a couple of other questions in there,
but it goes into it. Both of them kind of
go into a different segment. Now. Actually we might ask
Luke Duckett's question of you, Jess.
Speaker 5 (01:30:13):
He says, are we worried about a repeat of last
year the unexpected win against the Storm followed by a
bad game against Parra?
Speaker 11 (01:30:26):
This year, the circumstances is different. Last year was at
point the end of the year where we were fighting
to get in the eight. This year, it's a bit
earlier in the season. Both the Storm and paramatter in
different predicaments. But with the with the added in rivalry
that's going to start this coming weekend with Vulgo who
(01:30:49):
and our new captain. You'll discuss a bit on Tuesday,
But yeah, I think there'll be different circumstances, not as
much pressure this time. Both teams will want to win.
But yeah, are the circumstance is different? I think that
that will be irrelevant.
Speaker 2 (01:31:10):
Fair enough. I've got to say I've been saying it
all week. All this week, I've said we will beat
Melbourne and then lose to Parent because that's the sort
of thing that's just what the Dragons do. We're inconsistent,
and I hope that we don't. I hope that we
turn up and we leap Power by fifty.
Speaker 5 (01:31:28):
But it would be typical of what we've seen as
Dragons fans over a number of years to see is
putting the best performance that we've seen in a long
long time and then follow it up the next week
by losing to your winless Power of Outa. And I
hope that that's not the case, but yeah, I'm it
is definitely something that worries me. Glute Jeffy are not
(01:31:53):
so concerned about that. And I know Big Ta thinks
we're going to win, because he always thinks we're going
to win.
Speaker 2 (01:32:01):
Always.
Speaker 4 (01:32:03):
You're very optimistic.
Speaker 2 (01:32:04):
Yeah, you have to go through life peaceful, mate, paceful,
no arguments and reckons. He knows how Blomax will play you.
Speaker 5 (01:32:13):
Well, you'll have a fucking blinder you watch, mate, You'll
come out and your terrors a one. And I think, well,
I think today you were thinking about next week already,
Like his mind is.
Speaker 2 (01:32:24):
Already on that game. He would have that circle and
he will come out and he'll have a great game.
Speaker 11 (01:32:29):
I'm sure circle too.
Speaker 2 (01:32:33):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely right.
Speaker 5 (01:32:36):
All right, Lower grades, you're on the Mad Dragons podcast
brought key by Complete Warehouse Solutions. We'll do a review
preview on their own separate mini shows that though I
haven't got a chance to do with the last couple
of weeks, good chances to do it this week.
Speaker 2 (01:32:48):
I don't even get a chance to watch many of
the lower grades games.
Speaker 5 (01:32:52):
New South Wales cut they went down to the Windless Bears,
while our Jersey fleag side they gave up a twenty
six the six lead early in the second half and
had to settle for a twenty six all draw. But
the best news from our lower grades this weekend now
Under eighteen's Laurie Daily Cup side. They won their Grand
(01:33:13):
Final beating the MacArthur West Tigers twenty seven points to sixteen.
I haven't had a chance to actually watch this game yet,
but yeah, great to see that there are under eighteen's
the champions of the Lourie Daily Cup lifting the trophy.
They're just great to see another crop of good young
juniors come through.
Speaker 11 (01:33:32):
Yeah, hundred percent, you've been watching these games more than
than I do, but and young Jack Talbot was named
Men in the Match. You said he's a night play
to Keip and I are. But yeah, good. I think
it is that two years in a row we've won
that competition, don't you. We won to last year too, No,
we didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:33:49):
We didn't make finals last year. We won the year before. Yeah,
Jared's rowek who's currently in our flag side and he's
in our training trial squad. Have you got men of
the match two years ago when when they won it?
And very very good edge forwards with Jack Talbert fullback,
very skillful kick the field goal to put us thirteen
sticks up, scored a great long range try as well.
(01:34:12):
I'll try and get the video up of that one.
There was a great try to stretch your advantage and
basically wrap the game up.
Speaker 5 (01:34:20):
He's a very very skillful uh you know, one of
those one of those guys that just plays watch in
front of him and he's a he's a fun player
to watch and when he gets his hands on the
ball gets.
Speaker 2 (01:34:31):
Involved in the game, he's he's incredible. But I think
he's been playing with a little bit of an injury
most of the year and he sort of came good
towards the right end of the season and helped him
lift the title.
Speaker 11 (01:34:42):
Do you think he's got a future in the NRL. Well,
like down the track, it's hard to say.
Speaker 5 (01:34:47):
He's slightly built and physically that's that's always going to
be a bit of a concern, a bit like kay
Reed feel out enough to make it to a n
RL level. You know, there's certainly some little guys that
are coming back into the game. It's just a matter
of whether he's got the dedication because of his it's
a long way from playing Laury Daily Cup to getting
to the NR relations all the hard work to do
(01:35:09):
and we'll have to go up through and show that
he can do that against a much higher level of competition.
But I think he's got some some talents and ability,
but it will need to be harnessed and developed over
the next few years.
Speaker 11 (01:35:22):
Just what you said on the l I hope we
don't lose them. Yeah, been linked to Newcastle?
Speaker 2 (01:35:30):
Okay, did you read that in the agenda? And about
two questions time.
Speaker 5 (01:35:39):
Let's let's skip the next question then, Jess, and we'll
go to that one and I'll go go to you
with blam Newcastle reportedly showing some interest in getting a
partner for Dylan Brown from the Dragon's lower grades with
cave reed and like Hunt king Tooggia on their radar,
what are your thoughts on this.
Speaker 18 (01:36:00):
One? I have that Bloody doesn't happen because I reckon
paid read and I can kintuga our our future halves
moving forward hopefully that Newcastle one. They've got Fletcher Sharp
who's playing five eight. He's doing a banging job at
(01:36:21):
five eight. I don't know why they decide to go
for our halves.
Speaker 2 (01:36:25):
But when when?
Speaker 10 (01:36:27):
When?
Speaker 2 (01:36:27):
When? When show off contract? Hunt? When his bleeds to
Sharp off contract?
Speaker 5 (01:36:35):
Because I'm just thinking the Newcastle lot have got Kaal
and Ponger, and they've got Still and Brown. Take that's
three quarters of their salary cap going just about along.
Speaker 2 (01:36:45):
Yeah, yeah, we'll do it quietly while I'm talking mm hmm,
once you've got it.
Speaker 5 (01:36:51):
But yeah, like Newcastle have got two players taking up
a massive chunk of their cap.
Speaker 2 (01:36:56):
So the rest of their side is that they're not
going to be able to keep.
Speaker 5 (01:37:00):
Sharp once he comes off contract or any other half
decent player when they come off contract.
Speaker 2 (01:37:04):
The Knights aren't going to have enough money to be
able to throw at them to keep them.
Speaker 5 (01:37:08):
So Knights, they've got a wook, the young, untested, unproven
blokes that they're going to take minimum way to contracts.
Speaker 18 (01:37:15):
So flood they've got flutter shout till twenty twenty eight,
he said, a long time on contract.
Speaker 2 (01:37:27):
Signed for a fair war around project. What's the contract?
Speaker 11 (01:37:32):
Jack Jackson Hastings. I don't think he'll be there much longer.
So there's a spot and Jack Cougar.
Speaker 2 (01:37:40):
You need, you need more than two when these guys
might be a fair way down the track. But you
look at it, look at the dragons.
Speaker 5 (01:37:45):
I mean, we've we've got Daniel Latkinson, we've got Col
Flanagan's locked into the next couple of years.
Speaker 2 (01:37:50):
Lachland Illius is there for it for a little while
as well. So there's not.
Speaker 5 (01:37:56):
There's not much of a pathway for these young blokes
to actually come into it. The night nights might be
a little bit less blocked and a little bit less
congested than the dragons.
Speaker 2 (01:38:05):
And I might be able to help the lure them there,
Rob hopefully not. What what was Rob giving up? Did
they we just answer that question? I can't see every
freaking question that goes up there, Rob from we're in
(01:38:25):
the middle of talk. Everybody stopped Rob after question, Rob,
after the question, there we go, let's go to this question.
But Rob asked because we've got to stop everything immediately
as soon as he asks, was the Melbourne no, try
and try We already answered that wrong.
Speaker 18 (01:38:45):
Wrong what Jackson you.
Speaker 2 (01:38:48):
Rob has been was still on when we answered that question.
Oh yeah, the other that I do not have up there,
I don't know whose question is.
Speaker 5 (01:39:03):
We'll go to you big T Frank Molo officially released.
So we again have a vacant spot. Would you be
looking to promote from within or is there a particular
position do you think you that that we should be
looking at to strengthen with that last part?
Speaker 2 (01:39:22):
Positions we need to have.
Speaker 3 (01:39:24):
Are a bit more halves are a position, but I
think we'll find a half. We've got them coming through anywhere.
We have to wait for them. Yes, internal, I don't
know who we're going to, who we're going to bring up,
but one of the one of the younger lads. We'll
get our full contract, don't they.
Speaker 2 (01:39:41):
Yeah, yeah, No, I mean there's obviously a few guys
that to go on really well, like you talk about
halves like I'm king Toggy, you give him a top
thirty spot, I think that that would be be a
very good option.
Speaker 5 (01:39:51):
Jacob Hallonga, who he didn't have his best game in
New Southwest Cup yesterday, but generally speaking, his first two
games were fantas a thick and shows that he's well
and truly up to New Southwest Cup level. I think
he's coming into the top thirty next year and the
year after anyway. So a promotion for Jacob Allanngar who
would be would be well and thoroughly warranted. So I
(01:40:13):
think there's a there's certainly some options here to bring
some guys. Guys in Internally, I don't know that.
Speaker 2 (01:40:20):
Yeah, I don't know that.
Speaker 5 (01:40:21):
There's going to be many many players become available to
fill that spot.
Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
Jesse, you're shaking your head then, or is.
Speaker 17 (01:40:30):
That the Warriors a beating the Tigers. Warriors have beaten them?
Speaker 2 (01:40:39):
There you go, big big team knows more about footy
than the rest of us. We're getting we're getting d
C and Reynolds. According to Scos, that's not true.
Speaker 18 (01:40:56):
I did hear that we were looking at d but
that's off the table now, so we put it out
from from the race from d C so.
Speaker 2 (01:41:07):
On this wants to know what I mean by the
Storm are our bunny big team? Do you do you want?
Do you want to that one?
Speaker 3 (01:41:16):
Well we've beat them four times out of the last
five at Cogra. They are two of our last three wins.
It's when you bend them over the table. What time
is it, it's already been at a table and you
give them some.
Speaker 2 (01:41:33):
Is that right? Yeah? I mean, I mean basically, I
mean Darryl Cullenman was was Shane Warne's bunny because he
always got him out. You're always when you always beat
the team, you never lose to them, and you've just
got the wood on them. That's when you say that
they are your bunny.
Speaker 5 (01:41:50):
So the Storm having lost lost to us the last
two times and they never beat us at Cobra rather
so I think what four of the last five we've
beat them at Cobra. So yeah, there we are their
bogey team. They don't know how to beat.
Speaker 2 (01:42:04):
Us, right.
Speaker 11 (01:42:05):
Hospital even said it the other night, he said we're
tough to beat at Congrid, didn't he? Big t he is.
Speaker 2 (01:42:12):
I haven't had a chance to watch that yet. I mean,
you didn't do it.
Speaker 5 (01:42:15):
You didn't do behind any lines on Tuesday, and that
show still went for two and a half hours. I've
over been able to get through the Tuesday show, let
alone get to the right yet not a half hours
in the day. Anyway, we'll move on in the interest
of time. Forced and unforced changes. Moses Sully, he overcame
(01:42:38):
a rib injury to take his place in this game,
but then he looked to pick up like an ankle
or lower leg issue in this game. But if he's
not right for the next flash, Jeff, who do you
think comes into the centers.
Speaker 11 (01:42:53):
I read somewhere that it was just cramp, so hopefully
he's okay. It was only cramp. He didn't finish the game,
so I think he will take his place, but I
would like to see Corela. I thought he looked good
in New South Wales's Cup. But if he is ruled
out though, I think he'll go with Matt Feno, who
was eight enth man yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:43:12):
M hmm, yeah, I think.
Speaker 5 (01:43:14):
That seems the likely likely replacement, given that he was
the eighteenth man, the guy that was there as cover
all week for for Mosen Sowley this week, so that's
I'd agree that that does seem the most likely option.
I don't think too many people in the Dragons fans
will agree with it. A lot of people will say
this name Nathan Lawson.
Speaker 11 (01:43:34):
His best game yesterday?
Speaker 2 (01:43:35):
Did he well? He set up a.
Speaker 4 (01:43:37):
Couple of tries.
Speaker 2 (01:43:40):
Early in the game. That cat pass was brilliant.
Speaker 5 (01:43:42):
He did a few good things defensively, he missed the tackle,
and then towards the back end of the game, you know,
he sort of lost his time and he tried to
do that cat pass a couple more times and it
never went.
Speaker 2 (01:43:53):
To never went to hand again. So I don't think
he finished the game overly.
Speaker 5 (01:43:58):
Well, one guy that is definitely out liam is is
em Ray Gooler suspended for the next three games and
fights and wins, but he's not going to fight it
and he won't win.
Speaker 2 (01:44:11):
So google's go on for the.
Speaker 5 (01:44:12):
Next three weeks and what's the what what's the change
that you're looking to make. I'm assuming Black Laurie.
Speaker 2 (01:44:20):
Be nice. It's been nice perfect, he comes into it,
comes into gool.
Speaker 18 (01:44:31):
I'm I'm going to go out of the left field
here and go with lo Go Pasiferica Tonga. I think
it's his tongue shine.
Speaker 5 (01:44:39):
I don't know whether that's left I don't know whether
you know where left field is, mate, but that is
that is what ninety nine percent of people say.
Speaker 2 (01:44:47):
That's not going out to left field. I think em
Ray Gooler is our size.
Speaker 5 (01:44:53):
Your he goes out, you want to replace him with
ste So I think it makes perfect sense that Locke
Tonga for me is the guy that comes in. I
know I joke about Blake Laurry. He was actually fantastic
in that New South Walest Cup game. He had significantly
more runs than anyone on the field that includes full
backs and wingers. Normally full backs and wingers have a
(01:45:15):
lot more runs than front rowers. Blake Laurie had more
runs than anybody worked.
Speaker 2 (01:45:19):
His ass off was running decoys every single play played
about seventy minutes in this game. He was second most
for meters. I think one of the winners got more
meters than in fin now.
Speaker 5 (01:45:31):
But he also made significantly more tackles than any other
player on the field and I think one miss. So
he had a great game. But for me, he's just
too one dimensional. All he does is he takes the
ball forward. He doesn't have an offload in his game,
he finds he thrunt, quick play the ball, does a
lot of the little things right. But I just think
(01:45:52):
he needs more in his game to be an NRL
quality player in twenty twenty five. So I think he
will be considered and some of the others that that
might come into into consideration, Big T Tommy Eisenhooth was on.
Speaker 2 (01:46:09):
That extended bench. Harme Sale is supposed to be back
even though they don't have any footy under their felt.
Do you think that they might might be considered if
they are available.
Speaker 3 (01:46:19):
I think they're both on the out of the moment
like we're signed, we're signed. Claim that claim becomes straight
in front of him.
Speaker 2 (01:46:23):
So well, I mean they're both they're both injured. Harm
Seal injured for the entire time and.
Speaker 5 (01:46:32):
Tom eisen who suffered at concucting in the scrimmage with
Manly and he hasn't recovered from that, so he had
concuctin for two months.
Speaker 2 (01:46:41):
But so he I mean he was not on the extended.
Speaker 6 (01:46:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:46:50):
I put the XPT in like a pacificate tongue and
someone should make a sign XPT. That's what he's going
to be called, Pacific Super.
Speaker 2 (01:47:03):
I think Luke Dicketts missed the joke from James Savage.
He's actually answered, seriously, who is James Savage is having
a bit of a laugh at the fact that.
Speaker 17 (01:47:19):
Yesterday wasn't he.
Speaker 2 (01:47:22):
Pardon but Tyler Marton was.
Speaker 5 (01:47:29):
I thought he was pretty poor. I thought he was
okay in the early going. But yeah, I didn't think
he had his best game.
Speaker 2 (01:47:36):
I thought there were others that were were better than
than right and some of that game is good, good
getting there. You see.
Speaker 11 (01:47:46):
Free, We've had free in a row. This will be free.
Speaker 2 (01:47:49):
Well, I think we've got another couple coming up in
the next few weeks as well, so.
Speaker 18 (01:47:54):
Naming go for it Ben Hm, Doc Mazilla.
Speaker 2 (01:48:03):
Well again, he's been injured and has not played a
single game.
Speaker 4 (01:48:07):
He's injured, Scoop.
Speaker 2 (01:48:09):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know what's to go with him.
Speaker 18 (01:48:12):
So are we're going to try to get him into
retirement or what's to go?
Speaker 5 (01:48:16):
He's already retired, mate, he's only got at development, he's
got a development contract. Only he's injured, but he's expected
to be available in the next few weeks. But he
won't straight I wouldn't think at any time in the
near future he and like you mentioned Jaden Sewer just
having having a couple of issues. Again, I mean, I
(01:48:40):
don't I'm hoping none of it is too bad. But
if he isn't available, what what changes do we make
to the side there?
Speaker 11 (01:48:47):
I would give young Dilla Egan a start. He looked
impressive on the edge and I would look at him
giving him a start. Why not give him a go,
give him a boost confidence and give him a run.
Speaker 2 (01:48:58):
On on the edge. Yeah, So who replays a team
on the bench.
Speaker 11 (01:49:06):
Probably I'd like to see maybe in our R two
or maybe a h or maybe a Raymond for Talamara.
I'm not too sure, but yeah, ditt An Egan for
mine and maybe fin off the bench give us another
edge forward.
Speaker 5 (01:49:21):
Yeah, I think again, if you go on that like
for like, you probably are looking to Ray for talamarn
or if it Decan goes into the starting lineup, you
bring in that guy that can cover an edge and
also play a bit of middle if he has.
Speaker 2 (01:49:33):
To do in Ray. So, I think you're spot on
with what will happen, not necessarily what I'd like to happen.
Speaker 5 (01:49:40):
I'd love to see if in our La to get
his chance as well, But I think Ray seems the
more likely option about knowing knowing for.
Speaker 2 (01:49:49):
It's Stuart.
Speaker 5 (01:49:52):
Amys Stewart is he's been clear in that faithful fracture,
so originally thought to be maybe three to six weeks
that he could be out.
Speaker 2 (01:50:00):
But yeah, he's been clear of that faithful fracture. But
did you think that even even though he has been.
Speaker 5 (01:50:06):
Clear, that he might still get a bit of a
bit of a breather from the top rade at some
stake in the near future.
Speaker 2 (01:50:12):
And if so, did that open the door for somebody
like laughter.
Speaker 18 (01:50:17):
Well, I reckon here will get a briefer in the
next few weeks playing reserves. The other name I was
was going to check out there, but you're going to
probably cancel me for theirs is maybe Yeah, Makila, go
up prop. See how he goes.
Speaker 2 (01:50:42):
A great option for example, happened? Do you know who
we should bring into prop? Not Painharts, Mike painehears just
put him a prop for us.
Speaker 16 (01:51:05):
You've lost, however, next year gives.
Speaker 2 (01:51:15):
Yeah one, next year Micha Scoot the dread Cordial.
Speaker 5 (01:51:27):
All right, well we might wrap it up there just
inside the two hour mark. That was a fantastic victory
and a reason to have tried in your club.
Speaker 2 (01:51:37):
But it's a win in round four. Let's keep it
in perspective. It means absolutely nothing if we don't back
it up, means nothing if that poper performance isn't the
new standard. We come to expect a.
Speaker 5 (01:51:51):
Huge game next week against Paramatta that we simply must win.
Looking forward to the preview of that show on us day,
Let's enjoy the wind for now.
Speaker 2 (01:52:04):
