(00:12):
They're coming to get you, Barbara. They're coming for you, Babra.
That comes one of them. Now, welcome to the latest episode of Not

(00:33):
the Movie Breakdown. That's right,it's yet another one of these State of
Address episodes rather than an actual episode, because it's just me Christopher Spicer.
Scott Martin is not with us forthis quickie update of what's going on,
because I was not going to doone of these episodes again, because I

(00:57):
don't know how many people actually wantto hear just an update. You want
to hear an actual episode. Youwant us to talk about movies, not
talk about why we're not talking aboutmovies. But there was enough people in
the last few days wondering where anepisode has been the last few weeks that
I thought it was good to sortof bring up that, Yeah, we're

(01:18):
aware that there isn't episodes, andso now we are going to provide a
reason. There actually is an episoderecorded from several weeks ago that has not
been uploaded yet. And one ofthe reasons for that is, as we've

(01:38):
mentioned before, and one of theseupdates that I mentioned on my site,
Beyond the Balcony, we right nowjust for many reasons, well, Basically.
One may reason financial is that we'renot using the remote software Riverside FM
that we were using for the lastfew years, which is an incredible company

(02:02):
and allows what I think is agreat sounding podcast. We can't afford it
right now. We've been using simplyput, a free recording software that is
just not up to the level ofRiverside, and that means that the latest
episode that we recorded just does didnot sound great. The straight up version,

(02:28):
the straight recording didn't sound great. And so what it meant is I
had a lot more editing work thanI normally do. I mean I do
episode. I do edit every episode. I usually try to get it down
to at least ninety minutes because weoften talk longer and and other reasons to
try to make it sound good. But this time there was a lot of
audio sweetening that I would need todo, which would take a lot longer.

(02:52):
That's one of the reasons. Anotherreason is we haven't recorded many episodes
in the last few weeks. Oneof those reasons is because for those who
do go to my site Beyond theBalcony, I have recently posted revealing that
I had umbilical hernia's surgery on Septembertwenty fifth, And let's just say that

(03:13):
surgery is great for you learning abouthow much you use your apps, and
for walking around like you're a hundredyear old on the rodeo circuit, as
I was in a lot of pain. And on top of that, Scott
has had some technical issues, andI hate sort of talking about him when

(03:35):
he's not here, but I'll justmake it simply that he's had some health
issues recently, and so that hasalso kind of stopped us from doing any
recording, and I'll leave it atthat. I have less of an issue
of talking about myself, and Ihave definitely revealed several times at twenty twenty
three. I mean, I hatebeing it the poor thing that I pick

(03:55):
on all the time. But it'sbeen a really, really rough year for
me in a lot of different ways, emotionally, personally, and most definitely
career wise and financially. And mycareer is just not quite where it's at,
which means I'm not where I wantto be emotionally, which means it
has obviously harmed relationships. And sothere's a lot in the last few weeks,

(04:18):
on top of recovering from surgery thatI've been just trying to get in
place, and one of those bigthings is trying to land some more clients
and get my writing career back ontrack. And so simply put along with
you know, health issues and such. We've sort of put the movie Breakdown
on hiatus without actually kind of revealingthat to anybody, but that was that's

(04:44):
kind of one of the reasons. And so that's been tough. But you
know what, we're all working hard. We're working hard to get healthier,
and I'm working hard to get mycareer back on track. Just taking on
some new strategies, consult different people. So don't worry about us. We
will get back on track and wewill have this podcast rocking again. Like

(05:06):
I said, there isn't already recorded. Episode is the two of us ranking
our top five favorite coming of agemovies that should be dropped next Wednesday with
decent sound quality hopefully, and thenthere will be a new episode after that
the next week, which will eitherbe a brand new episode recorded by us,

(05:31):
and if that doesn't work, itwill be sort of a clip show
that I have planned. We're gonnalook at maybe four reviews where we drastically
disagreed and you can sort of enjoythose kind of four reviews that we went
against each other. That's if we'renot able to record, but we could

(05:51):
potentially also record a new episode. And one of the new episodes very soon,
of course, will be our annualHalloween episode where we review for horror
movies, so you can look forwardto that as well. We will be
getting back on track. My hopethis month is really to get the podcast

(06:12):
rocket again, and also to getbeyond the balcony rocking and rolling again.
We are still not in a spotwhere I can guarantee new theatrical release reviews
every single week, but definitely notin sort of the way that I envisioned,
where on the site there are severaltheatrical reviews every single week, and

(06:34):
where the podcast would have several ofthem. My hope is going forward out
of October that maybe we can getone theatrical review every week. That is
even probably being overly optimistic just becauseof the state of finances and stuff like
that, but I'm really hoping toget that area of the podcast back again.

(06:58):
But even that doesn't have but wewill review stream movies or review classic
movies. That's still going to happen, and like I said, we want
to end the year great and thewebsite I'll continue to be sort of the
pop culture site and try to getmore reviews up there, and once again,
it may have to be more classicpictures that that's going to have to
be sort of the plan at thispoint as we've tried to build the site

(07:19):
back up, try to build apodcast back up, and once again,
I just want to apologize for nothaving that many episodes up and also with
the site not having a lot ofarticles up. In the last little bit,
it's been I've had to focus onsort of building up clients and trying
to get my career back at trackwhere I can actually help out my family

(07:43):
financially, and like I've said, also having relationships to build on. That's
just had to be the priority. It's not been a great year for my
mental health. But I don't wantthis podcast to become the Woe is Me
Christopher podcast, So I will endit like that, and I just want
to hope that everyone has had awonderful last few weeks, and I want

(08:05):
to encourage you to you know thepeople you love, let them know you
love them, and let's spread thatkindness. Let's make this world a better
place. But I don't just wantto be negative, and I do want
to thank those of my life thathave emotionally supporting me and give me a

(08:26):
lot of great advice the last fewweeks, and I am taking some big
steps to mend some relationships and towork on my mental health. But I
also just want to mention a thingthat if you read Beyond the Balcony you
already know, but if you're justa listener to podcast, you might not

(08:46):
know, and that is that meand my entire family are going to be
in a musical in December. Thebig sort of venue in Branford's called the
Sands in Cent and we are goingto be performing and being the Beast Musical
at the Sanatorson Center. I dohave some articles about it up on the

(09:09):
site, so you can get somemore information about it. But I just
want to say that that's kind oflooking at sort of twenty twenty three.
They're being positive as one of themis going out of my comfort zone.
And I have never sung in publicin my life. I've never been part
of a choir. I have actedbefore. I did that in high school
and I did that as a kid, but I never ever thought of being
a musical and here I am,and so just talk about small victories and

(09:33):
I hope that's maybe something that someof you listening can get a positive out
of it. Sometimes go out ina comfort zone, take some chances,
and who knows what wonderful things canhappen in your life. And so there
is some good things. And that'smy attempt to not just make this a
total downer of an update. Andso that might be something you think is

(09:54):
cool. Maybe it is, andmaybe you're just like I want to get
back to talking about moves. Andif you do like this podcast, please
support us by downloading it, sharingit, let it grow, and that
will really help us the simple factorsthat way we can grow this audience.
There it's easier then to do moreepisodes and to keep this podcast going because

(10:18):
it is time consuming and there islike I said, I do need to
make a living. At this point, we don't make really anything off of
this podcast. So if you continueto sort of spread the word, that
will help us be able to domore episodes. And I'm a writer and
I have a lot of big writingplans and one of the ways that you
can really help is to read mystuff on Beyond the Balcony and if you

(10:43):
like it, please share it andspread the word, and I will help
that also grow and allow me tosort of do maybe some more interesting projects
and be able to focus more timeon write about movies and pop culture and
the stuff that I assume people enjoyand that comes from support, and so
thank you so much. Like I'vealso mentioned on the site, and I

(11:05):
think I mentioned my site never mentionedon here. I mean, there is
potential. There is an article onthere if you find it. I'll Beyond
the Balcony where I talk about apotential PayPal for those that artists bought,
where they can help us out financiallyand that would allow us allow us to
focus more on the podcast and onthe site. But again I kind of

(11:28):
feel dirty about that type of stuff. But you can talk to me,
and I will. I mean, the plan one day when the audience grows
is to look at Patreon and whenit comes to my writing substack and that
type of stuff, and so that'ssomething you're interested in, let me know
that those are avenues that you'd beinterested in potentially supporting, and we will

(11:50):
continue to try to create the mostentertaining podcasts and articles and other creative endeavors
we have. I've also talked abouthow I wanted to break out into YouTube
and stuff, and like I said, all that stuff is time consuming.
But all you need to know rightnow is there will be a podcast next

(12:11):
week, and hopefully going forward, there will be a podcast every single week.
And we appreciate your support, andwe appreciate you as listeners. Have
great, great

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
