Vedanta and all those guys are wentto Cassa Harrisburg's Capitalaria School of the Arts.
How about it? Very cool? And that who's in it? Max
Max Foster? Of course, yep. We got Alex Valsing playing bass and
Graham Kramer playing on the drums.I think that's one of the first things
(08:24):
they've recorded. Man, that soundsgood. It sounds like they've been doing
it for years. Yeah, it'sgreat. You know, I think throughout
the first six episodes we featured alot of nominees, award winners and h
you know, as we mentioned everyepisode, cpmhof dot com slash Radio is
the submission for him to get yourmusic heard live on the River ninety seven
three here and you know we heardfrom Vedanta there. And it's great to
(08:46):
have some new artists as well.Absolutely all right, we're gonna have Shay
Quinn on the show and just alittle bit he'll be in the studio shortly.
Who do we have up next though? Branded Up next, we have
a band that has been in thearea for all over a decade. It's
Mountain Road. Oh, I've heardof them me too. Their drummer is
very sexy. Yeah, he's he'sa good looking. It's Mountain Road.
(09:07):
On the local show on the Rivernineteen seventy three, heard the bottle is
a long road, can't get you. You need to go and ID take
(09:37):
it. I want to know thingsI need to know. Land the Cold
Wind, said man, Land theCold sand Man. Sometimes you have to
(09:58):
be high. Ah, you realizethat you look sometimes the breeze on bottle
can't call you down. More thanyou know leant the Tory sidling left,
(10:22):
the Tory sidling, Bye, myfan, older road. It's far light,
got a case on nights, It'sstamp the crap. We smile when
(10:45):
the cold Wind begins to blue leftthe colind said ling left, the Toling
said ling the jaw. I've donefaces canting. No, he has done
(11:18):
thing to take me off settling. That's we're on the local show and that
(12:26):
is one of Brandon Valentine's projects.There. You guys have begin together recently.
You haven't played much, but youplayed at Proudly Pa at Ford Hunter
earlier this summer. And do youguys have anything else coming up? We
do. We have a show comingup at spring Gate Winery in Harrisburg on
September ninth. So is the bandback together as there's just one offs here
(12:48):
and there, one offs here andthere. I love it that you could
do that because you're all buddies andyou just have other stuff going on in
your life, families and stuff likethat. That's right, we're all we're
all busy. So we played whenwe can in Central PA Music Hall of
Fame. And of course Cold SpringUnion, your other band, very busy
these days. That's right, whatdo you guys got coming up? Boy,
we're all over the place playing alot at Morgantown Casino, Hollywood Casino.
(13:11):
Um man, I'd have to lookat the schedule, to be honest.
Where can you find the Cold SpringUnion schedule? Cold Spring Union dot
com? That's easy, easy enough. Right when we made the band name,
we were like, we have tomake sure they have the dot com.
But uh, yeah, with withthat Mountain Road tune right, Um.
We selected that one because one ofour favorites called the Cold Wind and
it features all of us singing onvocals, so not only drumming in the
(13:35):
band, but if you listen tothe high harmony that's me as well,
that's legit a four part harmony, then you got it. That's rare these
days, it is, Yeah,And that's that's one of the things that
makes that band so fun is isyou know, it's it's virtually kind of
a band of people who could allbe lead singers. Show true, you
guys can all sing very well. All right. Coming up next on the
local show, we've got a veryspecial guest, Our first guest as a
(13:58):

buddy, I know it's early foryou rock stars. It's like you know,
we record these early. It's likealmost the cracking noon here I'm pop
pop now, so I'm I'm upquite early. She's uh she taps on
my head like five thirty in themorning. Oh so yeah, that's how
(15:22):
old is she? Three? What'sher name, Olivia? Grace call he's
my little pumpkin punk that's our daughter'smiddle name, Grace, not punkin It's

(15:43):

oh you duck you Here we go, Here we go. It's all set
in stone now, Yeah, it'sset well, of course. Uh,
Shay, you're the hardest working manin show business here in Central PA.
There's no doubt about it. Idon't know anybody, Brandon, Do you
know anybody that plays out more thanShay in all his various incarnations. That
(16:06):
is a great question, I mean, and that's the point, really,
is all the various incarnations, right, I mean, you can you can
catch Shay doing solo work and workingwith any number of bands currently, I
mean, the epitome of full timeseven bands, and uh, you know,
everybody loves going to see you tohear the Shark songs because you always
play the Shark songs, the oneseverybody knows and loves, and the Jeffrey
(16:30):
Gaines and myself song absolutely man.Uh. In fact, we'll play one
of your songs that you wrote withJeffrey here in a little while. But
we'll get a Shark song too.But how what are you playing? Like?
Five nights a week, six sometimesin the summer, in the summertime,
like I'll play three sets in theafternoon and then three more sets at
(16:51):
night out in the heat. Ohmy god, I think it loves twenty
five pounds. Last week, yougotta stay rock star, rock star,
Skinny. We did the Bowie Showouts and that was done in effort,
and that was very warm, andI think I lost a good ten pounds
that day. So yeah, I'mI'm beating my voice up and I'm beating
myself up. But well, it'swhat I do. You know how to
(17:11):
sing properly, and you've always takencare of that voice. Such a lie,
ye, dude, I don't Idon't warm up. I mean sometimes
I took some I watched Steve Whiteman. A bunch of times, my buddy
Steve, and he kicks and he'dscream into a towel before a show to
try to get things loosened up,and and I've done that a few times,
(17:34):
but otherwise I just usually just getthere and Okay, let's go.
By the fourth song, we're readyto write. Yea by the fourth song
my voice kicks in a little bit. Yeah, well, let me let's
talk about the Bowie Project, theband who sold the world. I mean
you've been doing that now for whatseven years? Yeah, I believe.
So. We just had two showswe had wanted to West Shore Theater that
was sold out, which was agreat time in New Cumberland. I would
(17:56):
have been there, we were outof town. That was Yeah, I
know that was pack. You guyshave been on vacation. I'm very envious
of you guys. We do getaround. Yeah, I was. I
was at the very first Bowie show. Yeah that Coffee d Coffee did some
of your visuals and we were standingthere un on the show together and it
was just in awe with you andJenny and the whole band is just it's
(18:18):
really great. It's really tightened upand Jenny's incredible. I mean she just
every time I hear saying it sincechills up my spine. But she's fantastic.
Like I said, we just diduh the West Shore Theater. Then
we played an effort outside and theywere both you know, great crowds.
And now next week I guess it'sThursday, the twenty seventh of July,
(18:42):
we're doing Dr Frederickson Library Show, which is we're doing the Beatles again.
It's been ten years since we didthe Beatles and we're doing our Beatles show
next Thursday at seven o'clock with acouple of guys you went to high school
with. Yeah, they played oncea year and that's it. Yeah,
with you doing Beatles? What likeforty Beatles songs? Yeah, but my
(19:04):
buddies ago, well, I havelike thirty eight songs written down. I'm
going, what are you trying tokill it? I just I just did
two Bows show. He's catalog,Yeah, two hours worth of Beatles songs.
Okay, it should be fun. That's always a great crowd at the
Frederickson Library. It's outdoors and youguys will be under a tent of course
(19:26):
covered probably not probably not. Umwell again, that's from seven to nine.
That'll be this Thursday. If you'relistening on the podcast, it's more
most likely already happens, so you'llhave to catch it next time. But
let's see we will. We'll talkabout Quinn and the Fins. We'll talk
about the Sharks. Let's let's playa Sharks song right now? Is that
all right? Let's do Let's doholiday. We'll play Holiday, all right?
(19:49):
Sure, it's the Sharks. ShayQuinn is our guest on the local
show. It's something Pennsylvania music.Any think Sam sings is beautiful? You
know that's right? The River nineteenseven three. I'm not reading to say
(20:21):
this time it's my back. Yoursmean not always me me. You need
no I have look inside to seedmpty in this. I'm canting that this
is no hard day. I'm putchest. I never knew. Oh I
(20:52):
choose my soul dress. Oh mash, I promise you, Oh yeah,
(21:15):
never. Jake has come to thepreside I didn't be realized I could be
lonely. Once you get my sideand try to find a way provid to
say this is a lonely I'll beretest. I never know what she my
(21:48):
say, undressed a man in myself. I promise you this ain't a hogh,
(22:14):
this ain't a high This is solone laess angle me ipp be reta.
I never watching my songs of mansonI brothers. That is the Sharks
(23:08):
holiday on the local show in theRiver nineteen seventy three. I'm glad that's
Brandon and we have our very firstguest on the show, Shay Quinn,
formerly of the Sharks, now ofcourse with the Love Gods and the band
who sold the world the David Bowietribute Quinn and the Finns. How do
you know, first of all,the songs that the Sharks did in the
(23:32):
eighties hold up today just as muchor even more than they did back then.
I mean, they are the fabricof the music scene in Central PA.
Man, thank you. And Samwrote some incredible songs, Yes we
did. And I missed him terribly. You know, he was a wonderful
character. He was great, greatfront man too. You're not too shabby
(23:52):
yourself. I'm hanging in there,my brother. You are hanging in there.
Hardest working man in Central pash business. Not a young man anymore.
No, but you you know, you take care of yourself in a lot
of ways. You work out right, yeah, you know, eat right.
No, I work out so Ican eat the garbage. That's that's
why I do it. That's whyI work out so I can eat the
(24:15):
garbage. I mean I eat goodthings too. But you know, so
you've got the h the camp HillLibrary show coming up with the Beatles on
Thursday the twenty seventh, and you'vegot a show with Quinn and the Fins
coming up in August. And that'sat the new Double Barrel roadhouse right right
down the road. And that's uhIan Samsun and then Steve Zero from the
(24:38):
Sharks and myself and James Clippold andLogan Badard and we're doing, you know,
a bunch of Sharks songs, andthen we do uh, you know,
eighties, some cool songs from theeighties swim in next. What a
great name, right, I mean, you come up with Quinn and the
Finns. What a great name Ihad to love. I had to come
(25:00):
up with a name they couldn't usethe Sharks. That's fitting though. I
like it. I'll tell you what, man, it's amazing what how things
evolve or devolved that that shouldn't.I love all the guys. I love
all the guys with all my heart. But you know, sometimes you just
have different agenda. There, thereyou go, but you figure out a
way to carry on and keep thismusic alive, which is the most important
(25:22):
thing. That's the most important thingis keeping not just Sam's but all the
Shark music alive. You know, there was a whole large catalog of great
songs that shouldn't be stifled. Youknow, this is the one that won
the MTV Basement tapes. Only onmy Own was the one that won our
black and white video of on myOwn vast right, and then only is
(25:45):
the one you got because because wewon yet with electric records. Yeah,
that's all right. Well let's play. Let's play. Only time will tell
because it's the only other one Ihave right now that I'm legally allowed to
tell them. Tell them to therest of them, go let him go.
(26:15):
Tell me what your story is?This soly mention? Oh soly,
I din't see, but we reallyme now I've seen its falling, such
(26:38):
lonely, lonely child because it elseidnow I've told my changes. I'll do
(27:15):
so real ranging Let the ram folowyou know lies for me. Maybe I
can't now maybe so will somehow nowI know because its nothing has never been
(27:45):
in time time, I don't knowwhat did you mother? My mind?
(28:11):
A long girl at that? Guysreally star all shall we tell? Chall
(28:53):
really scary? That's the Sharks Onlytime will tell. On the Local Show
(29:22):
on the River ninety seven three,Shay Quinn is our very special guest on
the Local Show this week. Thanksfor coming in, man, thank you
so much for having us buddy, absolutely and I know yeah and the Royal,
Yeah, the Royal we yep.Well, Um, you've been You're

You and Jeffrey Gaines have had abrotherhood for how many decades? You guys
have been writting together forever? Um, we started doing shows, um,

the Quinn and the Finn and theLove God's shows, and he's been doing
some songs with us. He's mybuddy, you know, and we wrote
some great songs together. Tell meyour favorite song that you did, and
so what I'm gonna do here,I'm gonna say, tell me your favorites
and one of your favorites, andI'm gonna edit this here Shay the song
that he's going to order. That'show we're gonna get into that. So
(30:29):
just say, you know, leadinto this one a little bit. Tell
me about one of your favorite songsthat you and Jeff did together. Well,
Um, the first writing session wedid, I had a bunch of
songs written on guitar that you know, I had like a melody line for
and they turned out to be Hetook him home with him and he wrote
(30:51):
lyrics for these songs and they turnedout to be What it Is and I
think what it Is and Love Disappearsor two of my favorites. I love
both of those songs. I usuallydon't like the songs that I write so
much, but those two songs turnedup since I you know, he really
brought them around. You know,I had the melodies and I had the
(31:15):
guitar parts, and then he putbeautiful lyrics to them, and I thought,
and I think love disappears in whatIt is a great you know,
I really like those sounds like youBelieve in Me was very good too.
We've written like ten songs, soit sounds like a very Lennon McCartney type
relationship. It's something else. Yeah, I love each other and then you
want to get the heck away fromeach other. Nah, No, jeffreies.
(31:38):
I love being around Jeff, youknow. And we've had some issues
over the years, but you know, brothers do normal as you get older.
You gotta let this stuff go.Buddy. You can't hold you can't
hold friends and friends with somebody forthirty or forty years and you never have
an issue. I think that mightbe a problem. You know. You
just gotta let it go. Burythe hatchet, buddy. This is love
(32:00):
Disappears. This is Jeffrey Gaines songco written by Shay Quinn on the Local
Show on the River ninety seventy three. I was gathering all the things I
(32:22):

high, like loves and te doubtsand fees inside me. Because when your
(32:59):

discippeale I was dreaming of the lasttime we lie to get seems in never
(33:37):
right me to your drus the scenethat should I appee sometimes it appeace you

(34:17):
not here, not decent to streamafter friend, the dream meant the same.
(35:07):
It's when y'all, I'm not muchto say yet. It's when ya

you know, virtually with no accent. Wild that's what the Beatles did.
Yeah, you never noticed Collins, you know. Yeah, Beatles sang
with American accents pretty much. Yeah, they didn't sing with their regular accents
