Speaker 1 (00:03):
That summer.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Silver come tied up fun, thrill, spells that'll make Yestery
come tied up fun, Silver, come tied up fun. Hi Jordan, Hi,
I feel like I haven't seen you at all.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
It's that time of year for me.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
It is that time of the year. And this is
officially the season two, episode one, our second season.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Second season.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Here we go, let's make it bigger. It may be better, yeah,
in a good way last year.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
So I think we've got a lot of things on
the horizon and a lot of fun to be had
here in the off season and the Scary Wood season.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Yeah, so lots of that coming.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
But today we're kind of wrapping up this season of Silverwood,
and we're going to talk a little bit about those
community appreciation weekends so people understand what exactly those are,
where the money is going, who it's benefiting. And I
got to sit down yesterday with a couple of incredible
guests from Third Avenue Marketplace, which is the food bank
in post Fall, and kind of tell some stories about
(01:03):
where all of those donations end up going and how
you're benefiting this community. So looking forward to sharing that
with everybody.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
But no, I wish I could have been here. I'm
I was not around for that. Unfortunately.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
It's scary.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Yeah, I'm wearing my scary wood shirts are so yeah,
it's definitely scary wood season for me. So I've been
out and about. But we've been doing this food donation
for a long time. It's evolved over the years from
actually bringing a can of food to the park to
now just donating money, not just but donating some money
of admission tickets and all that stuff. So it's it's
(01:41):
been great, and it's always so fun to go and
sit down and give those checks to the people who
really pass it on to those who need it most
right now, and especially with the holiday seasons up coming up,
and it's always a great time to be able to
catch up with them. So I'm excited to hear what
you guys talked about.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
And I'm so excited for a couple of weeks from
now to be able to hand over that chech again,
those checks, I should say, and I get to see
all of those happy faces and there's some tears that
I think are shed every single year. So hopefully we
can do that too. And yeah, I'll probably drag you
into Third Avenue Marketplace one of these days because they
want to give us a tour. Maybe we'll get our
(02:17):
hands dirty and cap little volunteering. So yeah, so we
discussed that too, But let's kick things off with the
pork poles.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Park pools.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
So let's just get into the grit of what not
yet Jordan, we're not I know you're in scary Wood
most that's why you.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Okay, got it. I thought that's what you're going with.
You say, grit, I'm going to go grime great and grime.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
So grit, well, grits, grits is yeah, you never know.
But community appreciation weekends we got two more right, and
last weekend was our first correct.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
I don't even know the day of the week it
is anymore.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
But so four dollars correct off of every general mission
ticket sold is going to those food banks and then
one dollar for you been senior correct yes, So yeah,
if you're coming in, not only are our ticket price
is cheaper right now because we are in the No.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
Older Beach part of the season. What are they forty.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Four, forty five, forty five, and then you can save
some money by purchasing them online.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Okay, perfect, So you're getting a discounted ticket part of
your ticket is going to our local food banks. And
it's September and it's just a great time to come
to the park.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Right, Yeah, I mean September for locals. If you can
drive out, this is like the time for that because
really there's not a lot of people coming to the park.
It's been pretty manageable. Yeah, especially Sundays. I know, we
keep preaching on Sundays. Sunday Sunday Sundays, come out to
the park and enjoy like your last thrills of the
season before we go dormant for the yeah, the rest
(03:48):
of the rest of the season.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
But that's how we go dormant because the dead arise.
They do arise, and so there's that. But I also
want to kind of point out our our last blog
post from one of our Silverwood conductors. She talked about
the benefits of coming in the rain and so there's
a higher chance of rain this time of the year,
and I thought it was a great blog post to
kind of show off how fun the park can be
(04:13):
when the weather's not you know, super super hot, although
it's been super super hot. So so go check that
out at Silverwoodexpress dot com. And yeah, let's talk Scary Wood.
Jordan's I know you're like shaking, You're like, I got it.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
I gotta get out there. I got to talk about it.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
So tell us all the things you've been so busy.
What have you been doing?
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Well, a lot, there's been a lot going on. I
mean our episode next time is going to be fully
devoted to Scarywood. Right, so we'll probably bring Ryan back.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Can he can bring ryand and Ran back and.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Talk about everything that's new, specifically was Scary Wood?
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Are we going to do it?
Speaker 4 (04:46):
And Blood buy you again?
Speaker 1 (04:47):
We'll probably do it in here. Can we decorate maybe?
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Can we bring masks?
Speaker 1 (04:51):
No, Jordia, it's a podcast.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
I know, I know you can't say it's a podcast
because yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
I'm bringing masks and I still might deck rate.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Well, we might show some as long as they're okay
to show.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Oh yeah, no, no, no, we won't scare the children like
we did last year with Blood Bio.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
We might have scared the children.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
But anyway, Yeah, so we'll ring ray On in and
discuss kind of everything.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
I think, everything that's new. I mean we're right now
in training season, so we had orientation last night. How
it out great? We have a lot of people showing up,
which is good. We have two hundred over two hunred
and fifty actors right now that we're going to put
through scare school tonight, get them in the groove of
scaring and what we do to do that safely and
(05:36):
how we teach that. So there's lots of techniques that
we have, and then we do some fun activities and
then we're into attraction training. We have a dry run
coming up after the park closes on the twenty seventh,
we do a dry run with all of our actors,
get them all through costume like dress rehearsal, and then
it's opening week and October third is that opening night day.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
That's the big day. So I'm so excited and we're
running through the wecond first weekend, weekend, weekend, I try
to say second, and weacond second.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
It's November second is our last day, and.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
We are not open Halloween because we want our Scarywood
people to be able to go enjoy yeah holiday.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
And nobody comes to the park on Halloween because and
if they do come to the park, it's they are
causing a lot of chaos.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Exactly exactly too many blood bags, yes, yes, so and
those are back.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Those are back. We have new options this year, so
we're going to go all in on all of this.
I know you're excited about it. But there's new things.
There's we've talked about the swine bigger and badder this year,
so that's really taking shape right now.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
And pig Mama going to be on our podcast. Oh man,
she told me she was going to bring you cookies
if you allowed them. Maybe, so I told her I
would talk about it directly on.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Air, so that you were I'm not going to give
you a direct answer. Amazing.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Pig Mama operates though. She has no filter.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
I know, yeah, I know that's it.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
I know she didn't ye, Yeah, she'd be fine. Jordan,
I want free cookies.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
I do want free cookies too, but I get free
cookies from her anyway anyway, So it's not a big
bribe right there.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
We need her, Okay, we need her.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
We'll interview some of our favorite monsters.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Yeah, and some people that you'll you'll see maybe you've
seen them on our billboards too, because we have new
billboards are going to be going now, our advertising start
to pick up. It's that time of the year, time
of the year.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
So here we go. So that's Park Pulse. Let's just
head right into the mail train train. All right, y'all
still keep signing up. In fact, Jordan, I was going
to ask you this off air, but I'm going to
ask you on should we start a new loyal listener
list or do we.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Just keep adding?
Speaker 2 (07:40):
We just keep adding, keep adding, Okay, I wasn't sure
it was season two.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Like what to do is keep out.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Okay, we're going to keep adding. So if you are
joining us maybe now during the Scary Wood season and
you didn't join us during the Silverwood season, make sure
to sign up as a loyal listener at Silverwoodthepark dot com,
slash podcast or send us those questions at podcast at
Silverwood Team park dot com and you just might get
lucky and we might answer your question on air or
give you a call for a chance at Silverwood.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
Are we going to be giving away Scary Wood tickets?
Speaker 1 (08:09):
I think we could give both. Yeah, not either or Okay,
it depends out their local and they're coming out and
they want to come out.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
I like that. Okay, good deal and their chance at
seventy five dollars in.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Silverwood Silverwood cash.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
So Okay, so let's kick things off with the questions
right now. Gail m wants to know what are the
benefits of going to Silverwood in September, and obviously so
many A no lines.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
It's it's great. The lines are very very short for
me personally, It's the weather.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
I just it's good weather.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
It's so great. I tend to get overheated in.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
September, I think is one of the best weather months
because it's not that ninety plus We've had great weather
over the last couple of weeks, and so come out
and enjoy that, like upper seventy.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Low Aine and it's nice and cool and crisp in
the morning. And yeah, it's just it's the time of
the year. It's my favorite time of the year out here.
And then yeah, of course because some of those donations,
you know, or those ticket prices are going to turn
into donations to the food banks. And that's the main reason.
Get out here so you can help this local community.
(09:15):
I just love how our North Idaho communities kind of
just come together when it when it comes to this
kind of stuff. So it's a need that's definitely a
parent right now. And I talked to them about that
you'll hear that coming up in the big drop. But yeah,
I want to beat last year. Okay, last year we
had like little over thirty eight thousand. I want to
(09:35):
hit forty.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
We're gonna we're gonna need some good attendance.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Yeah, yeah, we definitely are. So that's where this comes
into place. So we need you guys's help to make
that happen. So get out here and join us at
the park. So thank you, Gail. That's a that's a
great question. Taylor s wants to know. Do the Scare
actors at Scary would get to design their own characters?
Speaker 4 (09:57):
Kind of?
Speaker 1 (09:58):
I would say yes and no. Yeah, design, I think
we definitely take their input on things. They get to
create the backstory of their character and kind of get
their character unique to them. But I mean a lot
of the masks already made. If they're in a mask,
they can have input on some of their face makeup
(10:19):
if they're in makeup. But we really have looks for
areas and so as long as they're operating within those boundaries,
and I think we will accommodate that. But we've had
people here for thirteen years. A lot of people are
pushing eight nine ten years and they've really developed. They
are their character and so over the years it's evolved
(10:41):
into what they are today. And I don't think we
could actually use that character as anybody else because it
is them.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Yeah, and certain I mean like Prudy Pebbles, she got
to wear a couple different outfits last year, So depending
on because you're special, I am special.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
But you go into the.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
Wardrobe Erry and you get to like basically like shop
your outfit depending on what your character is. And it's
so cool. It's like a giant like thrift shop. It is,
and that's pretty much what it is in there. Yeah,
so yes, very I think in a way, for sure,
they get to mentally design.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
They want to be that.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Works, We mentally design, Yeah, whatever makes them feel good.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
But because I remember a girl asking you last year
if she could, you know, be a female pig with
a little bow and like things like that, so there's
always you're always listening to their their input and yeah
making those decisions accordingly. So yeah, so we'll see that
hopefully this year. It's scary wood. And do we have
new characters?
Speaker 1 (11:40):
We have lots of new characters.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Yes, there's Oh that's exciting. Okay, so we'll save that
for later. But that's little cliffhanger for you. So thank you, Taylor.
A great question. And then zeke k, what do you
guys use for the fake blood or at scary Wood
and how much do you go through?
Speaker 1 (11:56):
WHOA, I think that depends on what kind of blood
we're talking about, because there's some that is more cosmetic,
meant for makeup, which is.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
In every color of blood.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
You've got dried blood, fresh blood, rotten blood, all the blood, yeah,
very different.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Various different shades. And then we have the blood that
we use on props, which is not meant for makeup,
so that's called perma blood because it's always meant to
stay that like glossy wet feel. So there's that, and
we go through a lot.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
I don't know if I about the stuff nasty stuff.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Yeah, the chum, which is I guess edible you put
they can put in their mouth and like drool it
out to chat and all that kind of stuff, And
I think we just get a bucket of it. Yeah,
a bucket of chum.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
A bucket of chum.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
So yeah, for those who are still wondering what that is,
if you've ever seen our zombies at Scary Wood just
usually you're drooling blood and that's probably a relevant question
what is that and why does it keep? Yeah, so
I I had no idea what it was. Last year.
I remember I was like, what is that? And it's
so gross? It like actually, will give me a fulls
(13:11):
It's like, oh no, I just said it's a bucket.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
It's it's yeah, its it literally comes in a bucket.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
So do they just like scoop it out and like
put it in their mouth.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
They scoop it out and they have like their own
little bucket, like a little not bucket, but like a
small container pretty much, and then they pop it in
and they let it.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
It stays in there all night.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Well, I don't know how they utilize it. Sometimes I
think they take it out and they just use what
we call a mouth goo because there's that too, So
it's not necessarily like like a blood red, but there's
like black like sludge style the things, the things, the
things come.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Up with and people don't realize like all that goes
into these these hunters.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
I mean they're dedicated, dedicated emphasis on the dead. You get, okay,
it's so hard to reach you from here.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
It looks like it's not that far, but it actually
so zee. Great question. We hope we will come out
to Scarywood. Tickets are on sale now at Scarywood dot com. So, uh,
let's not call this week's loyal listener. We have a winner.
(14:26):
It is random number one eight six five this week,
so let's give him or her a call.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
Hello.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Heyesus, Laura, Yes it is Laura. This is Sarah, Jean
and Jordan from the Silverwood Show podcast here at Silverwood
Theme Park. How are you wen?
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Jing?
Speaker 5 (14:50):
Good?
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Good?
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Hey, guess what. You're this week's loyal listener and you
want a pair of free Silverwood tickets. Oh my gosh,
I'm so excited.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Oh you're so welcome. Hey, would you like a chance
at winning seventy five dollars in Silverwood cash as well? Sure?
All right, why don't you play a little game with
us here real quick? If you got a second, We're
basically going to do this. I'm going to give you
five true or false statements. You have a fifty percent
chance of getting it right. Let me know if it's true,
let me know if it's false. Every time you get
(15:20):
one right, you get five dollars and then at the end,
Jordan's going to play a little SoundBite for you of
one of the rides here at the park, and if
you get that correctly, you'll get another additional fifty dollars.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Sound good, I've never been to the you never been?
Speaker 2 (15:35):
You have it? Are you still there? No? Do we
lose Laura part Oh this is a perfect opportunity.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Then okay, well, yeah, the SoundBite might be hard.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Yeah, we'll give you some some tips and some hints.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
How is that?
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Okay, We'll give you a multiple choice version of Yeah,
there we go.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Okay, that's perfect. That's perfect. Okay, let's kick things off
with your first true or false. Silverwood has been doing
community appreciation weekends to benefit the local food banks for
over fifteen years.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
True.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Yes, nice, five dollars, Yeah, five dollars in the bank. Okay,
number two scary woods first year was twenty twelve.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
I'm gonna say yes.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Unfortunately two thousand and nine, two thousand and nine, we
still usedtill have your five dollars.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Yes, you still got five dollars onto the next one.
Last year, Silverwood and our guests raised over thirty eight
thousand dollars for our local food banks. Yes, yay, awesome,
so you got ten dollars. We're moving on to the
next one. Okay, Heathcliff used to be the mascot for Silverwood.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
No, correct, great.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Job, it was Garfield.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
Garfield used to be the last podcast.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Oh, I was trying to confuse people with their cats.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
There, it's all I guess, well, you're doing great.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Great, you got fifteen dollars in the bank. So next
question fifteen right, okay, three for four Stump Pilot was
initially meant to be built for a theme park in Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
Falls.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
That's actually true, actually true, got real lucky. So fifteen
dollars in the bank. And now, Jordan, are you ready
in your multiple choice auctions?
Speaker 1 (17:28):
I have multiple choice? Go ahead, So I'm going to
play a sound bite. This can be in either the
water park or the theme park. It's going to be
a quick sound bite, so listen closely, and then I'll
give you some multiple choice. So here it comes.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
I haven't heard it yet either.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Okay, So is that aftershock, panic plunge, spin cycle tremors
or corkscrew trimmers? Oh? No, there we go. Unfortunately it's not.
But we're going to move that one on to the
next person. So we're not going to give you the answer,
but thanks for trying. Good guests. I'll move on and we're.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
Going to give you a chance. You can either do
tickets for the remainder of this season or I can
get those tickets to you for next season. But go
and think about that. I'm going to give you a
call after the podcast and we'll talk about you getting
your tickets and your fifteen dollars in Silverwood cash. Great,
thank you so much, Thank you so much. Thanks for
having fun with us today. Have a good one.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
But in bye yay, Laura, that was great.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
I've never been. I love it when people have never been.
We give them some tickets.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Yeah, and then she can come here and then just
become a regular like all the rest of us. So
a loyal visitor instead of a loyal listener.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
There it is.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
Yes, So they had to move on to the next.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Level, so go down the funnel.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Yeah, and so now what do you say we bring
in our very very special guests that I interviewed yesterday.
It's not really bring them to bring in the big drop.
That's what I'm trying to say, and talk a little
bit about community appreciation, weekends.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
The Big Drop.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
And we are back with the Silverwood Show podcast. It
is the Big Drop, and we've got two very special
guests in with us today. They are both from Third
Avenue Marketplace and this is our Post Falls food Bank
and I have got Rana and Steven. They're both here
with us and they're both integral parts of what happens
(19:30):
over at Third Avenue. So why don't you guys introduce yourselves,
tell us a little bit about what you do over there,
how long you've worked there, and let us know who
you are. We'll start with Steve.
Speaker 5 (19:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
Well, first of all, thank you for having us.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
Absolutely, I'm Stephen. I'm the warehouse manager over at the
Third Avenue Marketplace. My job pretty much entails in taking
food all day long, either putting it out on the
market or storing it. Yea, it's a never ending process.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
That's gonna say.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
You're definitely busy.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
And you also mentioned as we were walking over here
that you've got a little history here at Silverwood.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
I do. I think about ten eleven years ago. I
used to work in the warehouse here. That's awesome, and
this where I actually learned how to wear house so
I get to bring those skills to this career.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
That's amazing. So that kind of probably kind of warms
your heart a little bit too that we have this
connection with our community appreciation weekends that you came from
here and now you get to kind of see where
those donations and everything, and so that's super special. And
Brana tell us about yourself.
Speaker 5 (20:30):
Yeah, So I'm the volunteer coordinator and the development assistant. Okay,
food think I've been there a little over four years
and so I do a mix of so anybody pretty
much that wants to volunteer at the Food Being, whether individuals, companies,
community service volunteers, they reach out to me and I
kind of work with the team to figure out where
we need help, what there would be a good fit
(20:50):
for and then when it comes to development, helping with
all of our fundraising events a little bit with grants,
so just making sure that the you know, the financial
portion of the food Bank is taken care of.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
So I love that And I got to meet you
last year when we delivered that check and definitely we
had such a fun day and so I'm really looking
forward to getting to see you again this year at
our big check delivery. Once those community appreciation weekends are over,
but let's kind of talk a little bit about the
name change. Let's let those listeners know right off the bat,
(21:22):
because if anyone is thinking Third Avenue Marketplace, what is that?
It is formerly the Post False food Bank, correct, So
what kind of changed and what has changed over the
last few years.
Speaker 5 (21:33):
So legally we're still Postfals Food Bank doing business as
Third Avenue Marketplace, so we still go by both names.
And the idea of the name change came to the
previous director, Leslie. She retired this year, just trying to
get rid of some of that stigma that's associated with
getting help from a food bank. And we had a
lot of brainstorming and wrestling sessions if we should do
(21:56):
the name change or not, And just because we want
to be clear, we want people to know where they
can go and get help, but also we don't want
people to be ashamed of needing help. And one of
the moments that I realized why the name change was
good was we have like a little mini shopping cart,
so if a family comes with a little son or daughter,
(22:18):
they can push their own car and put their stuff
in there. And I remember when I noticed when little
boy pushing a cart. I was thinking, if he tells
his friends he went to the marketplace with his mom,
that sounds much more normal than just saying he went
to the food bank with his mom. So that's that's
kind of Even though there is some confusion, are we
market with pilgrims or are we a food bank? It
(22:40):
might be all worth it, just if it kind of
helps moments like.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
That break that stegma and let people know that, you know,
it's it's normal and it's okay.
Speaker 5 (22:51):
The other part of the name change was actually us
merging with the Senior Center. So we were years ago
the Senior Center approached the food being bored and said,
could you guys help out? They were going through some
hard time, and so for a little while the food
bank was running food being out of one building, the
senior programs out of the building down the street. And
then they said, let's just put us all in one
(23:12):
under one roof. So calling it just the food bank
wouldn't be true because we have other programs, including senior lunches,
and we can back back and all the other stuff.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Hence the marketplace exactly.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Yeah, okay, okay, So to clarify that, to everybody there
and post calls. They're the Food Bank, but they go
by Third Avenue Marketplace. So if you are they're not
going to have your gasoline, they're not going to have
your you.
Speaker 4 (23:34):
Know, your treats for your road trip.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
But if you're in need and in need of assistance,
they're definitely a great place for you to stop. So,
so you kind of mentioned events and stuff, I know
that a lot of these community appreciation weekends that funding
can go to help a lot of those things. Do
you guys have anything coming up soon?
Speaker 4 (23:52):
What's next?
Speaker 5 (23:53):
Are two? Well, our main fundraiser, you give under the
Bird is coming up on October eleven, okay, and that
brings in like a third of the budget that it
takes to run the food Bank. And it's just a
big party at the Standcraft Jet Center that's happening on
October eleventh, okay. So if people want to support us
in additional ways, attending that event is great.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
How can they get tickets?
Speaker 5 (24:15):
So they can go online on Third Avenue Marketplace dot org,
click on our events tab or even just on the
homepage and buy tickets. You can come to the event
buy tickets at the door too, but ideally people should
buy tickets ahead of time, and then an additional event
is September twenty seventh, Bunker Bar is throwing a block
party for us. So the Rub is playing.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
We all love the Rub? Yes, okay, I love it.
Next Saturday, okay, okay, yeah, twenty seventh, okay, perfect? Oh fun.
And that's why they're in Post Falls too, right, the
one right across from like the gas station right there. Okay, Okay, you.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
Don't need to buy tickets for that. You can just
show up and support us.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
Okay, good deal. It sounds like a party. I like
how you guys operate. Any other details on that standcraft event?
Speaker 5 (24:58):
Why is there anything I forgot? It's a big We
have a large silent auction, yea, a live auction. We
usually have anywhere between three to four hundred people that attend.
We're gonna have live music this time. Rad Vondu is playing.
It's a fue so it'll be kind of a fun
vibe and great food vendors from Mondu Catering to Angelo's
and my Sushi Sense and Guardna Cafe. There's their magical
(25:22):
like lemon curd creation and so you will not leave.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
Well yeah, right, it's so good. Okay, Well, if you
guys want to get your tickets, that's another great way
to support Third Avenue Marketplace, those Falls Food Bank, however
you want to call it. But let's dig a little
bit into Community Appreciation Weekends for any of the listeners
who maybe we don't realize what we do here at Silveroid.
Every September, our final three weekends of the month after
(25:48):
Labor Day are basically for the food banks. And so
not only are your tickets discounted, but you also have
four dollars of that ticket going towards the Post Falls
Food Bank and their local food banks in the area.
And so we have the best check Distribution Day where
we all meet up at the end of the season
(26:08):
and we give them their checks. And last year it
was around thirty eight thousand dollars over that that was
raised by you guys, our community in those those tickets,
And so it's such a great deal. And I know
that a lot of our community. I get a question
all the time, like what what is community Appreciation Weekends?
Like what is happening? How are you appreciating us? So
(26:30):
why don't you guys let us know kind of how
that money is used and how it definitely helps the
community around us.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
I can, so it really helps us out because when
people donate to the food bank, they think all we
need is only food.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
Yeah, but this kind this money helps keep the lights on,
the gas in the truck and just helps us function. Yeah,
as a business that just doesn't make money.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
That makes those monetary donations can. Yeah, it gives you
a little more choice in the direction in the need
of what's going on right now and where it's going
to end up. And so do you remember how last
year's funds sourced.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
Back So I think they went to the general fund,
which goes to like Stevenson just funding general operations going anywhere.
Sometimes the funds will go towards purchasing food, especially if
we programs like our we Can Backpack program, which is the.
Speaker 4 (27:23):
Tell us a little bit about that.
Speaker 5 (27:24):
Yeah, so that's our food program for kids in need
in the Post Falls school district. So we work with
all the different schools and Postfalls and the counselors and
teachers at each school will tell us how many kids
they have on the list that they know could benefit
from weekend food. So trying to get food that kids
will actually eat and that's actually nutritious. Forum means we
(27:46):
sometimes majority of the food we have to purchase. So
it's probably the biggest chunk of money when it comes
to purchasing food comes for that program. So trying to
buy apple sauce and oatmeal and peanut butter and things
that we know kids like, yeah, but that they will
actually yeah, they will yeah eat and it will be
good for me.
Speaker 4 (28:05):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
The brain fuel if we buy food for any program,
that's the main one that yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
And we've actually doubled the amount of kids we've helped
since last year. Oh wow, at about three fifty right now.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
So you've already doubled. So the need is definitely growing.
And I do remember last year when we were discussing things,
you had told me that you had fed basically more
families or assisted more families in a month than the
previous year. And so what are things looking like right now?
How is how is the need?
Speaker 5 (28:36):
We were crunching numbers before we came here. See numbers go.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
Yeah, So the amount of people that is coming in
is about twenty.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
Percent more, okay, okay.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
And the amount of food we're getting in is more
than last year.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
That's good. Okay, So we're still not quite still that
need okay, still behind a little bit, okay.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
And that's where you guys who are listening, that's where
you are help can come in and so very much
and why not come have a great time at Silverwood
knowing you're going to be also doing good for the community.
And it's just it's something we've been doing now for
over fifteen years, which and it's not slowing down anytime soon,
(29:16):
and we just we definitely I know I have a
personal kind of challenge that I want to beat last
year's number so bad. I want to hit at least
that forty thousand dollars mark. So this is me challenging
you listeners, loyal listeners out there.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
What a great way to kick off season two of
the Silverwood.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Show podcast then helping reach this goal and helping our
local food banks because we are heading into the holiday
season and we know that times can.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
Get really rough around that as well.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
What are you guys kind of looking for right now
aside from those monetary donations?
Speaker 5 (29:49):
So food wise things we always need.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
Well, tune a cereal all the time, all year round, okay,
but since the holidays are coming up as you mentioned
anything like all of stuffing, just all the essentials. We
do hand out turkeys and hams during the holidays, so
we're just looking to alleviate some of that financial burden
during those times and maybe thinking by their kids a
few extra presents or something.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Yeah, I love that. Yeah. Soup season Okay, yeah, yeah, absolutely,
I've been craving soup like crazy, so I can only
imagine that everybody is.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
But is there I mean, just like any type of soup, just.
Speaker 5 (30:25):
Camp hopefully have some protein and other nutrients in it.
We'll take anything. Yeah, if we can provide as much
good nutrients.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
Those like what are they like, progressive ones with them
thick and meaty or whatnot. Yeah, okay, that makes sense. Okay,
I'm putting some things on my shopping list. And so
now if people did want to drop that off, what's
the process of that? How how does someone come even
if they just want to come write a check or whatnot?
Speaker 4 (30:52):
What's what's the deal?
Speaker 2 (30:53):
How do you do it?
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Well, if you're going to write a check, you can
just come to the lobby in the front of the
building and just ask the lobby person, Hey, can I
talk to Brana? Yeah, okay, and if you're going to
make a food donation, it's actually at the back of
the building. Okay, there's a bunch of shopping carts there.
Can't miss them, okay, and then just ring the doorbell
and we'll be happy to take it.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
And then they get to meet you guys. And so yeah,
we got some local celebrities here. So this is your
chance to not only help the community, but come meet
Brana and Steven. So I want to ask you guys
what you've been in this industry. You've probably seen an
abundance of stories and an abundance of feel good, you
know stories, And that's kind of how I wanted to
(31:33):
kick off the season, was let's feel good about things.
I know that there's some craziness going on in our
world right now, and we just want everybody to come
together for a greater cause.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
And I think this is a great one to do
just that.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
So could you guys share some stories with me of
maybe some instances where the food bank or the community
appreciation weekends or anything just in your past that warmed
your heart and was completely unforgettable.
Speaker 5 (31:58):
I think we were brainstorming over trying to remember some
of the stories from the last couple of years and
a couple came to mind, I'll do a few in
the Yeah, so what right? We help a variety of people.
It could be you know, young families, it could be elderly,
it could be homeless. And we have one particular guest
(32:19):
who's has very intense mental health issues and is homeless
and as an elderly woman and so going through hard time,
family lives far away. They've sometimes they've tried keeping her home.
She leaves. So it's just a tough situation. But every week,
where every couple of weeks, she'll come in on a
Wednesday or Friday, and she knows that if she comes
(32:40):
in on our Wednesday or Friday, she will get a
beautiful lunch that's as part of our Senior Cafe program,
and she will actually take that plate and go sit
down with our one of our case managers and just
share that meal and chat and stay there as long
as she wants. She can hang out in the lobby,
we can get her wall, she can hang out outside,
(33:01):
so she makes a whole day out of it. And
and for someone in her situation that's so kind of
complex and and tough, it's nice that she knows that
we were there that at least that yeah, yeah, that
she can. She knows she can come in and she'll
get food, and she'll have a conversation and she'll have
you know, familiar faces that.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
Are their family.
Speaker 5 (33:22):
Yeah, honestly have family.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
Yeah, something that she just.
Speaker 5 (33:25):
And in the wintertime, sometimes it might mean figuring out
where she's sleeping, but she needed you know, usually in
the wintertime, our homeless are taking care of with the
with the warming shelters and stuff, but we make sure
she has warm clothes and other stuff to just.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Be okay, and just you guys being kind of that
point of contact for that assistance. You know, you're not
just handing out just food. You know, you're handing out
feelings and safety and care in every way that you
can so.
Speaker 5 (33:52):
And even resources. That's what we're trying to do. We
have a so our role of our case manager is
too because we know everybody that enters our door. Food
isn't the only thing. Yeah, they're facing sense. For some
people it might be that's that's all help they need,
but there are many others who need more. So it's
connecting them to other resources. So it's being connected to
all the other nonprofits that may be help with rental assistance, yes, clothing,
(34:16):
whatever it is. And for people to feel comfortable enough
to say what they need help with, and then for
us to try and connect the dot between them and
that other organization that can.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Help them, Well, that's huge by itself because it's so
hard just even walking in the door that first time.
So if you have to go to multiple places, you know,
then you have to frustrate, re ignite that that nervous
system again. And just to be able to go to
one person who's ultimately going to help you with everything,
that makes a huge difference. So you guys are amazing
for doing that.
Speaker 5 (34:45):
And it takes so many people, like it takes you
already takes staff, It takes so many wonderful volunteers, and
some of the best stories come from our volunteers. And
like our market works, like so when people come in
to get to shop, just like the grocery store, but
they use points instead of money, So different family sizes
have a certain number of points they can use, okay,
(35:06):
And so when they're done, just like at the grocery store,
you check out.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
I love that.
Speaker 5 (35:09):
And so there's two volunteers always there and the relationships
of those volunteers form with our guests are wonderful and
sometimes like a couple months ago, we had one volunteer
who was telling me I was taking one of the
guests to surgery because she had no family nearby and
she needed someone to take her surgery pick me back up.
And we were like, I mean, nobody asked her to
(35:30):
do that. We would never just.
Speaker 4 (35:32):
Went out of our way.
Speaker 5 (35:33):
Yeah, she just had a special bond with this guest
that came a couple times a month and just formed
a friendship.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
I know, my checkout lady, you know what I mean.
And so yeah, the more normal that you can make
that feel and the more comfortable, the better. She always
asked me, She's like, did you go to church this
weekend or you know whatever, And it's like she's just
the cutest woman. And there was a guy in front
of me in line the other day that she was like,
did you ride your bike to work today?
Speaker 1 (35:57):
Bill?
Speaker 2 (35:57):
And just she knows everything about everything. So yeah, that's
a wonderful feeling, and that's going to keep them coming back,
you know, and and hopefully give them that hope and
that courage to to find their way.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
You know.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
So that's wonderful. I didn't even know that you guys
did that. So that's great.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
That's multiple checkout ladies and make a lot of people's days.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
Just right.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
You don't want to give any shout outs.
Speaker 5 (36:20):
Oh yeah, go ahead, Yeah, Vi is the checker. V
Trish are a great team.
Speaker 2 (36:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (36:27):
Have Denise who's there on Mondays. She has new a
new volunteer. Help. We're now Cindy and Linda. So we
have who's on Friday? Well, on Fridays we have Katy
and Quinn and then Gloria is on Fridays. We have
John Tuesday afternoons and Genesis Thursday, Genesis and Max Thursdays
(36:47):
and they're all beautiful bred Friday.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Sorry last, yeah exactly. So to that whole team, thank
you for doing what you do because you're making an impact.
You're making a difference in the lives of our community.
And so yeah, and you too too. And I know
you've got a story I can tell.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
I do have one amazing story.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Okay, tell me.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
So we had this volunteer who is actually volunteering well
living out of her.
Speaker 4 (37:15):
Car what yeah, oh wow.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
And she's been with us at least a year and
a half now maybe yeah, yeah, but I've got to
see your progress from volunteering out of her car to
getting housing with the little help from our case manager.
And then she bought a new car. Yeah, yep, and
now she's out on the Organ coast having a great vacation.
(37:40):
It was just a huge come up story.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
Yeah, that's fantastic. Yeah, and it's all starting right there.
And then how selfless for her to want to come
volunteer on top of I mean, that's just she deserved
a blessing.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
Blessing every time she tried to go forward and they
tried to knock her back and she didn't give up.
It's just one of those amazing stories.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
I love see. And that's and that's the difference again,
listeners that you're listening, that's the difference that this makes
in this community, and not just community appreciation weekends. Yes,
of course we want you to come out silver but
have a great, great time. But they are just so
many ways, and so let's talk a little bit about
some of the ways that they don't have to actually
donate something monetary or physical. Volunteering is always a great
(38:23):
way to help out. Do you guys have needs for volunteers.
Speaker 5 (38:26):
Yes, all the time, always anytime especially, you know, it
kind of varies where we have openings, and.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
Like you said, you're kind of placing them like a
puzzle a little bit.
Speaker 5 (38:37):
And making sure that we have enough people but not
too many, and just kind of finding that balance. But
we always need to always have a need for consistent
weekly volunteers. Those are like the foundations of all the
work that gets done because they know what's happening. They
can guide new volunteers and guide those more short term volunteers.
(38:57):
Then Saturdays, actually we are in need. We're trying to
get more. So Saturdays we have a group of Nights
of Columbus from Saint George's Church. They drive our truck
so that we wouldn't have to pay anybody to drive
on Saturdays, and they go between seven am and one
pm and pick up food from all the different grocery stores.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
That's amazing.
Speaker 5 (39:14):
And some of the guys are getting a little bit older,
so we're trying to get a younger group of people
who are who dare to drive our truck. You don't
need a special license or anything. You could be willing
to drive a big truck, right.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
And it's usually just one Saturday out of a month
that we actually need it. It's not every set.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
Well, we'll call this kind of like a casting call.
That so calling all volunteers who would be interested in
doing a Saturday a month to go drive and pick
up food at the local grocery stores for the food bank.
Please reach out to you, right, Okay? So what do
they email you?
Speaker 5 (39:47):
Or they can call? They can email, they can show
up and we'll give them the volunteer application they can
whatever way they reach out, we'll try and connect the window.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Okay, perfect me. So, I mean this is a great
way to do it. Reach out to me and I
can forward any emails. So you can email PR or
podcast at Silverworthingpark dot com and I'll make sure to
get those in the right direction just in case someone's
not listening. But oh my gosh, what else did I
have on here? You guys, you've definitely answered so many
(40:17):
of my questions. And I know that I need to
come in still and have a tour because we talked
about this, no, and so I've been spending a little
time in Post Falls lately, so maybe I should sign
up too to potentially do some volunteering because I would
love to be a part of that, and so let's
make that a challenge too. So you guys, if I
(40:38):
go sign up to volunteer, I want to see how
many of you I can recruit with me. So let's
see if we can make this happen. So let's see
what else we talked about, what you're in need of. Gosh,
we talked about volunteers. So I guess it's time to
talk some fun things. I mean, not that this isn't fun,
but I do want to know how you guys like Silverwood.
(41:00):
I kind of want to get some some tips and
whatnot from you. We're not going to move on to
the the scoop yet, but I would like to know.
Have you guys been to Silverwood before? Obviously you have,
but have you just worked? Have you played?
Speaker 3 (41:12):
I have played and worked?
Speaker 4 (41:13):
Okay, okay, multiple, multiple, multiple, multi.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
Yes, Okay, so he loves it. So okay, tell me
what's your favorite rider attraction?
Speaker 3 (41:22):
Honestly, I'm scared of roller coasters. I've ridden all of them. Okay, yeah,
but I'd say my favorite ride would be the Quark Screw. Okay,
great example, little adrenaline rush.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
Did you know it turned fifteenth year. No Idea not
had a big, big golden birthday this year, so we'll
have to get you on Quarkscrew.
Speaker 4 (41:39):
All right, Brona, have you been.
Speaker 5 (41:41):
I've been twice, okay, and I'm also kind of scary
tocat when it comes through. I did go to a
couple of them, the Drummers, yeah, and now it was
intense cool. I love the Little Train. I was most
impressed by the water park because I lived in California
before moving here, and okay, I never went to a
water park and you would think California would have more
(42:02):
water parks, right Idaho, But no is just the best.
I was kind of horrified on the whatever. It was
like the tube bride when you're with multiple people.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
Yeah. The Avalanche Mountain, Yeah, it.
Speaker 5 (42:13):
Was fun, but I was like, will my spine break?
But it.
Speaker 2 (42:20):
Has become that's Jordan my favorite as well. We went
we tested all of the all the water park attractions
in about two hours one day, and and for those listening,
you can check that out on two episodes back of
the Silver Roadship podcast. But it was a lot of fun.
So okay, so Avalanche Mountain.
Speaker 5 (42:38):
And I think I think Silver Root is better than
six Flags or Disneyland.
Speaker 4 (42:41):
That's the shout out we want.
Speaker 2 (42:43):
I love that. It's more.
Speaker 5 (42:45):
It's so clean, It is so wonderful. It has like
the magic of theme park, but it doesn't have the
kind of the chaos, the chaos of it. Yes, it's
really beautiful.
Speaker 2 (42:55):
And that landscaping, right, we were talking about that walking
up here, it's just so pretty when the park. I
wish everybody could experience this park when there's nobody in it,
because it's just you notice the little things like the
flowers and the smells and the bees.
Speaker 4 (43:07):
And all the things.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
And so so we'll just have to get you guys
back out. Hopefully we can have you out one of
these weekends before the season ends or sometime next year.
And gosh, on that note, it's time for our inside
scoop and Jordan normally plays like an ice cream truck. Sound, Oh,
I think I have it. Wait are you ready?
Speaker 5 (43:27):
Isn't that you?
Speaker 2 (43:30):
So this is the big scoop And so I know,
Bronna you don't have quite as much experience. You know,
you've worked here, Steven, but I'd like to get a
super secret insider tip from each of you as to
the best way to kind of maneuver the park, especially
if they're coming for one of these final three weekends.
Speaker 3 (43:49):
I know there's final three weekends. Attendance is a little.
Speaker 2 (43:51):
Lower two weekends.
Speaker 4 (43:52):
Actually, sorry, don't listen to you guys.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
Two weekends, two weekends.
Speaker 4 (43:55):
Yeah it's still Yeah.
Speaker 3 (43:58):
I think the best trick is to show up here
and immediately run to the roller coaster alley. Yeah, you
beat the lines, you get your adrenaline rush, you come back,
grab an ice cream cone, and then.
Speaker 2 (44:08):
Enjoy the rest and ice creamery, one of the signature
scoops as big as your face, one.
Speaker 5 (44:14):
Of those scoops.
Speaker 2 (44:16):
Yeah, those are so good. Don't miss out on the
signature scoop with ice creamery and and yeah, that's honestly
a great way to do it. Go to Tremor's, check
out the new seismic upgrade, and then make your way back.
So and Stephen would know because he worked here, and
he's he's seen this place empty full all the things.
Speaker 4 (44:34):
So and Branna, what are you thinking?
Speaker 5 (44:36):
I just think that showing up doing one of these
community appreciation weekends would be a wonderful tamp and I
hope that as many people as can will do it.
I think it's impressive the amount of money that gets
raised and just those two weekends, and I remember it
is impressive. It already shows the community now wonderful three weekends.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
But we only have two weekends left. So yeah, that's
where I know. I'm so confused once we get to
this kind of the year, I'm like, what do you
get the week is it? But especially when we don't
have the park open, so those listening to we are
only open weekends, so Saturdays, Saturdays, and Sundays only. And again,
those tickets are cheaper because the water park's not open.
So not only are the tickets cheaper for this kind
(45:17):
of the year. Let me just tell you this is
my inside scoop. I love September at Silverwood. It's not
as crowded. Kids are back in school and so you
can come out on the weekend and it's just the
fresh air and the leaves are starting to turn and
it's just a whole different kind of environment here in
the fall, and it gets warm during the day, but
(45:39):
it's still kind of cool and crisp in the mornings.
And yeah, your pan less and four dollars of those
tickets are going to our local food banks. One dollar
off of our senior and youth tickets are going to
the local food banks, so let's challenge them one more time.
Get out here this weekend. If you can't get out here,
head over a volunteer monetary, don't food donations, anything you
(46:01):
can do to help over at Third Avenue Marketplace or
any of our local food banks for that matter, because
we're all hand in hand working together on this. But
thank you so much guys for coming in and I
hope to see you both here in just a couple
weeks with a big giant check in my hand, and
we'll post that picture for everybody and until next time.
(46:21):
