Boromir gran y poderoso guerrero y capitán de Gondor, viajó durante de ciento diez días a Imladris, en búsqueda del consejo y la sabiduría de Elrond Medio-Elfo.
Quisieron los Poderes o la casualidad, que fuese recibido por un Concilio de los Pueblos Libres, en los que se está revelando un peligro del que pocos sabían pero del que conviene que algunos más estén enterados.
En este concilio, en el valle de Rivendel, Boromir describe la situación del país de Gondor y su continua lucha contra el enemigo. Pero también en este concilio se encuentra con información sobre una traición antigua (aquel «Daño» del que hablan las leyendas) y de la que solo los sabios o los guerreros de noble cuna, han oído hablar, los primeros por saberse sabios, los segundos como parte de su obligada enseñanza tradicional.
Pero también se ha topado con otra sorpresa, una que sí despierta la mente y abre los ojos de este guerrero orgulloso, hijo de un padre orgulloso: se ha topado con uno que derechamente va a reclamar el trono que su casa ha cuidado por siglos.
