Speaker 1 (00:04):
Ex President of the Sons of Men, Matt Kintastic, ax
Head Capo, Adam Booth, X Player and forever a Union
legend Sebastian Latou. These may be exes, but they're the
experts when it comes to the Philadelphia Union. This is
Exes in the U.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Welcome back everybody. It is episode number twenty Michael Jack
Schmidt to celebrate the Phillies big clinching of the East.
So this is Exes in the U. We are going
to talk everything about the Union verse if we are
ad episode twenty. I am joined as always by mister
Adam Booth and of course Union legend Sebastial. Two guys,
(00:45):
we got an exciting week that just happened that we
have to cover. So how's everyone doing so far?
Speaker 3 (00:51):
I am pumped. We are backing the playoff. I like
it right? Oh where do you we keep going?
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Adam initial, All of this went exactly as I predicted.
I don't know if anyone was here to listen to me,
but I said, look, man, healthiness equals a good union.
And once you have a bunch of gentlemen who actually
are like you know, I don't know, not feeling seventy
five ailments once we actually played like a good team.
But hey whatever, yeah, let's get into.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
The We'll get into the week in review. We had
New York City on a school night and that result
was five to one. Five different scorers for Rebo you're
a gas that Gladness and Bueno all scored hell of
a hell of a game, and and missing Andre Blake,
(01:41):
which you know, we've got eighteen year old Andrew rickin net. So, guys,
I mean, and keep in mind DJJ was was didn't
start and then Jack was out with yellow cards. So
missing Blake, missing Jack go into New York City and
get a huge result. I'm gonna let you guys who
wants to go first and review in New York City?
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Sure, I go first.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
I mean, yeah, I think it was a great game,
kind of like I would say, look similar than the
Miami game.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
You know, like you know where the team we're.
Speaker 5 (02:11):
Attacking, but I think on a small field, you know,
at the baseball stadium. I think it's a little advantage
for the Union because they play much better in a diamond,
you know, to be close to each other and be
able to connect and have a lot of people joining
the attack. But yeah, I mean, it was a great
let's say, finish from the front three scoring you know,
(02:32):
all of them one goal plus we have to thank
a little bit our ex goalkeeper Matt Frieze to give us,
you know, some nice gifts, but we are going to
take it. But at the end, I feel like the
score five to one, it's a little bit too big
for New York City FC, because it could have been
maybe like five four or five five if Andrew Rick
(02:53):
the didn't make you know, so many good saves to
have the team like carry on, you know on the
first half, especially like having to deny a few times.
You know, New York City CY was was big because
then the momentum could change. You know, we saw what
happened in Miami, especially when we were as well as Zoo
and then the score and you know, we can really.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Put away our chances.
Speaker 5 (03:13):
But we did put away our chances, which was much
better than we saw in Miami. So now it was
a it was a great game, you know, nice to
see we's got five away. I was hoping that they
were going to keep some you know for the weekend,
and they did, so you know, we have a we're
on the road right now, so it was. It was
a very good game, very important win, you know, to
kind of keep the whope a live before playing DC,
(03:34):
and everybody did a great job.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Yeah, and with that win, you know, we got over
Atlanta and BC with that win then, and like you said,
what a change, because I agree with you, specially they
played better on the short field. We're back in the
beginning of New York City. We didn't have an answer
for playing on that short field. Like I used to
dread us going to New York Yankee Stadium for that
(03:57):
and now not so much your thoughts.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
I mean, frankly, this is probably before the game that
we're going to talk about later, the most complete performance
the Union have had all year.
Speaker 6 (04:10):
And the thing about Andrew Rick.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Is the Union did not necessarily pluck this man off
the street. You know, he was playing sensationally for you
too for a very long period of time. Unfortunately, because
of Blake's injuries and Samelia is not playing as well
as we would have hoped he would have, Andrew Rick
got thrust into his position where he is now keeper too,
(04:33):
and he proved that he belongs in this league with
a lot of his performance on Wednesday. You know, he's
going to grow into it. Again, the man has barely
graduated high school, so you know, classic league keepers don't
even hit their primes until twenty six, twenty seven thirty,
you know, so this is a situation where we're going
(04:54):
to see him grow into the spot. He's a solid
backup keeper. Do I believe he is the number one?
He's is going to be the best option for us
moving forward as a backup keeper. That's a conversational piece,
but he definitely is a keeper that I say, whoever
ends up with Andrew Rick is going to be very
satisfied with the gentleman he has because he has a
lot of the skills to you know, put a team
(05:16):
on his back, like he literally did on Wednesday night.
I mean he went on Sports Center for one of
the best stops of the week.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
You know.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
It's one of the things where he's definitely grown as
the calendar has gotten longer into the year twenty twenty four.
Besides that, offensively, you played a game that was really
really advantageous. You know, it wasn't the most beautiful way
to score goals, but you scored goals that you do
when you have goal scorers, and what I mean by
(05:45):
that is, you have people who are naturally in good
positions to hunt for the ball, you do a lot
of what you did was pounce on mistakes by Matt Freeze,
which if I'm a New York fan, I'm questioning if
he didn't just throw that game for them, because I mean,
he looked like one hundred percent of man who was
on the ops, because that those were performances from a
(06:09):
very very good goalkeeper that you normally don't see. But
it also took the Union being in those positions to
score those goals. It took you know, a barbarieae and
God's dag to be in these advantageous positions to get
these balls by Matt Freeze. So I think a combination
of we were lucky that we got those goals, We
(06:31):
were kind of lucky that some of those saves happened.
But I think, you know, we give credit to Andrew
Rick for coming into his own but ultimately you showed
a team like New York in their own house that
when you are healthy, when you have all of the
bullets in the chamber, and when you're rested and motivated,
you're ready. I mean, you can compete with just about
(06:52):
anybody else in this league. I know the stretch against
Columbus and Cincinnati.
Speaker 6 (06:57):
And Miami may have waned some of that.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Thought process, but that's literally the top of this league
right now. Like, those are the three best teams in
Major League Soccer right now, and you showed with playing
New York team that was ahead of you and the standings.
We can come into your house and smack you around
a little bit, and that is going to put a
lot of teams on notice before we even got the
Saturday or Sunday.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Yeah. Now I want to touch on Rick real quick. First, Adam,
I have to ask you this. The Apple TV guys
kept going on that apparently his name is Rick Wall
or Rick? Is this something the Bridge Brigade has done?
Because I have not heard this? Okay, so yeah, this
was legit. These are two nicknames that we need to
know now, Okay, because I haven't heard it, But that's fine.
Speaker 6 (07:46):
Do you want to know is because I know you don't, but.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
You're going to share with regardless of our desires.
Speaker 6 (07:53):
Of course.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
So the television show Rick and Morty right, it was
on Adult Swim. So there was an episode where the
grandfather character the Mad Science as inventor turns himself into
an actual pickle, and it began this whole meme culture
of Pickle Rick. So we had a guy named Rick
who occasionally wears greed. It was a very easy connection
(08:16):
for the Bridge Brigade to make there. So it was
fun having both of the Apple TV guys stumble while
I'm in the back doing the Leonardo DiCaprio meme where
I'm like, oh, oh, oh, I get it, I get it.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Well, good for Apple actually doing some research. Good on
those guys. Rick did have seven sages. The post had
to I kind of want to start telling up the
post because the post has been our friend this year.
At some point I'm going to get a stat for
how many posts see But like it was, a Blake
was out. I read this. This is his twentieth game out,
(08:49):
I guess throughout the season. So the question for me is, well,
the record without Blake is three nine and seven. Rick's
played great, can't fall um, but he's eighteen years old.
I have to think in the off season a backup
goalie has got to be. One of the biggest priorities
on the Union's off season is getting a season veteran
(09:12):
that can handle maybe fifteen twenty games that Andre Blake
may be out. I mean, you know he was out
this game that was his twentieth, and you don't know
with the growing So I just want to get your thoughts, guys.
Is is backup goalkeeper like a necessity for the Union
in this offseason?
Speaker 3 (09:33):
I don't think so, okay, you go with the eighteen
year old.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
Yeah, because you know, like we know what the you
know thing of the unions they try to create and
you know, get some player coming from the academy and
he's one of them. Even if it's a goalkeeper, it's
the deferent position. But we know, I think from all
those years and if you look back, the Union have
been very good creating very good goalkeeper and a lot
of them left, you know, from the academy. They didn't
(10:00):
stay because they know that maybe they could not play
or you know, they have the change because Andre was here,
we are taking you know, maybe younger.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
Good keeper to play instead.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
So I think it's a perfect scenario for a younger keeper.
It can be Andre Rick or it can be you know,
somebody else, but right a Rica, I think is what
he did against KDFC really.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Bring a lot of confidence to the people.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
You know, seeing him and thinking that maybe he can
be the number two of Andre. And if Andre or
let's say, get a bit more injured, you know that
he can play. And it's how you get better, you know,
as explaining game matters, And the one in New York
City was a big one he had, you know, maybe
not the best in Miami he or the one he
(10:42):
played when he play in Montreal, but it's how you learn,
you know, from the mistake, and you get better. I
don't think Andre who was the best every time at
the beginning when he started his EMLS car you know,
he got some little mistake as well.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
We didn't maybe pay too much attention.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
Because we are nobody as good in a keeper. But
now when you have an Andre blake, and when we
keep your doing it.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
A mistake, it's always like Andre was not here.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
So I think, you know, Andrew did did very well,
and I think it'd be great for him to you know,
keep going and the number two and you know, get
get more game if he keep playing the same way.
And it is against the yor CFC, but you know,
the future will will tell us. But it's it's a
very high position as a goal keeper. I think we
have a good one with Andrea. But like you said,
the question mark is can he be healthy, you know,
(11:24):
for a full season, or do we need to manage
him as well the same way as that you manage
be Oh yeah, you know this season?
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Yeah, h Adam. I mean you've seen Rick a little
bit for Union two as well as Union one. What
do you think do you think this is where we're
good as is we stay pat or do we need
veteran leadership or does Rick benefit of us learning him
out for a year of somewhere overseas, you know, just
so he plays more. I mean, he's eighteen. It's you
(11:51):
got to be careful with this development. But I'm not
an expert. I'm just curious on your thoughts.
Speaker 6 (11:57):
Well, it's a couple of things too.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
If you talk about the loan situation, I don't necessarily
don't agree.
Speaker 6 (12:03):
I mean, like I don't.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
Say that we should and send him out on loan.
The question is what's gonna be the opportunity, where is
he gonna from and is there gonna be an immediate
benefit from it? Because the thing about it is is
you're gonna need capable bodies to back up Andre Blake
not only just because of injury usage, but because he
is the captain of Jamaica and because we are playing
an exorbitant amount of games.
Speaker 6 (12:24):
Like we can talk about this a little bit later.
As a fan of the Premier.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
League, we've seen Rodriy go down two days after he
says we're playing too many games. I'm like, I think
on this side of the ocean, we're kind of doing
that as well. But that's another conversation. But ultimately I
say Rick would benefit from probably a loan spell. But
I also say he's gonna play either for you two
or us for a decent amount of time. You know,
it's gonna be there's gonna be opportunity for him regardless,
(12:51):
and even in practice, that's gonna be as good a
training as you're gonna get if he goes to like
Birmingham City, you know. So it's one of those things
where I'm like, yeah, send him out because he's eighteen.
Because if you really bring in a twenty four year old,
he's not going to want to sit behind Andre Blake
because he doesn't see a path there. An eighteen year
old can say I can wait around another five six
(13:11):
years and wait for him to go out of here.
I would say, if you're going to do anything with
the goalie situation, though, is just make sure you have
a competent third guy. You know, I think maybe making
that the stalwart veteran, you know, a guy in his
late twenties, early thirties, maybe been around MLS for a long.
Speaker 6 (13:28):
Period of time and doesn't mind taking a back seat.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
You know.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
I think that's what you probably do on the goalie situation.
But I mean, look, you also have to look at
the record. How many losses were worth rickinnet, because we
forget about the other goaligue that we've had in net.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
For a lot of those games.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
So you know how much percentage of this is specifically
on him is also in the conversation.
Speaker 6 (13:46):
And again eighteen. He has to grow into this.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
I believe he will be a better player in twenty
twenty five than he was in twenty twenty four. And
if he's coming along now and he's playing a game
like he did against New York in New York, that
he you can put more to performances like that together,
that's good enough for a backup goalkeeper.
Speaker 6 (14:05):
In my eyes.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
You know, A bigger issue the Union was was not
getting the back of the net. There were a lot
of that stretch as well, and not being able to
finish off chances and get w's in defeat that where
you go back to the Miami game. The Miami game
had multiple chances for the Union to go up to
nothing and even from there subsequently three nothing and make
(14:26):
that a complete different contest that Andrew Rick is not
trying to defend against Messi and his boys in the
exact same kind of way. So you can argue that
circumstances are a bigger teller than actual just win loss
record right now for the Andrew Rick experience.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Yeah, the last thing on this game I have is
on the cabin watch. Cavin got into play Man City
for his future Home Parents team, and O'Toole lived up
to his last name by pushing a little kid over
as he got this doors blown off. Buy it.
Speaker 6 (15:01):
We have to backtrack. Where's polair mel in this compre
I have to know you're five five? Yeah, we're behind
New York.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Yeah right now, because you're still what Siri C, Siri B?
Speaker 6 (15:16):
What are you sory B and near the top of
the table. Don't worry about it.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
Yeah, better than Melbourne, I can safely say yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
So, yeah, you have a tool. Just that was it.
I was just gonna make fun of a tool for
beating up a fourteen year old kid. I did see
that and getting getting card at forth. But I mean
Cadam really did blow his doors off.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
You can't let a teenager embarrass you, my guy. You
have to hurt Yeah, you have.
Speaker 6 (15:42):
To hurt the kid. I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
Like, you can't let that kid just run by you
like that because he's going to turn around and nana
nana bootboo you on the way to the goal.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
And like you have to so Sebastian, if you're when
you're coaching at your high school and somebody, if you're playing,
you know, on a scrimmage with them, and a kid
blow was past to you, do you pull them out down,
push them over. You can't get embarrassed, right.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
No, I'm not like that. I'm okay.
Speaker 6 (16:07):
He's also a coach. Like about asking Jim to haul
him down.
Speaker 4 (16:12):
I'm saying, like an active player of the other team
is definitely hauling that person down.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Yes, all right, Well let's get on the sunnier things.
In Philadelphia. In Chester, it was always sunny on Sunday
because we played DC United and we had about maybe
I don't know, forty five fifty DC fans come into
U to the section. So that was nice of them
to take a take a bus trip down for They
(16:37):
came a long way to lose, so it was nice. Yeah, no,
they had a busy. It wasn't a full bus, but
it was a bus. Yeah, so d c uh it
was for Union, DC mill clean sheet for Blake and
everybody seemed to score, so you know you got gasdag tie.
(17:00):
You're right, the big three score. Quinn has two assists. Guys,
let me know what you think. Sebastian, you called this
one correct.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
Yes I did. Yeah, that was a good one to call.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Oh yeah, you picked a good one a call.
Speaker 5 (17:14):
I'm lucky, you know, as always. But no, I mean
it was. It was definitely a full performance from everybody.
Maybe besides the three mini first minute of the game,
you're like, oh, first kick, you know from Pioneer above
the crossbar.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
You're like, here we go again. We won five to one,
and we're falling asleep.
Speaker 5 (17:30):
But then great, great reaction, you know, he went I
think exactly on the game plan of the Union. I
think Queen Sleavan had probably one of his best games
this year for the team, I think, which was good
because it's what you need from our midfielder. You know,
Quinn was kind of thinking he needed to score all
the time and try stuff that was so hard.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
Or his decision making, you know, was not always the best.
Speaker 5 (17:54):
Not losing the ball but not too easily, but you know,
not making the rest and we had to pass the
shoot when he s he had to pass. So he
was a lot of you know, not good decisions from him.
But that game I think he was he was very good,
had a big impact on, you know, the first three
goals of the team, and it's good to see that
now we can have a player like that who brings
(18:15):
something different than let's say Jack McLean brain, you know, offensively,
because you have macln with more like the vision, the
guy who can find a pass, you know, be here
to kind.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
Of connect with the forward.
Speaker 5 (18:26):
And then you have a Sullivan on the side who
can combine as well with the area. You know, a
lot of area coming up as well, a lot you know,
on the left on the left side of the c.
I think it was good to go at centers because
he was not the best defender and we got to successful.
So when you have you know, Sullivan and then Maglen
who can bring something different on offensively to give the
ball to the forward and some crosses or maybe more
(18:48):
passed for Maclen into the space, and then the front
three are like on fire right now. I think we
are looking very good and I think very scary for
a lot of Team My players in the playoff, but
everybody needed to be, you know, in the same lesser level,
and like that's what I say. I think it was
a full performance from the offense, but I think from
the defense too. I think we did a very good
(19:09):
job on Benicke. We did a very good job, you know,
reacting every time we lost the board, we kind of
win it back right away, which is one of the
strengths of the Union when they play at home, and
it was it was great to see like we're not scared,
We're going at it, and to first go after fifteen minutes,
you know, really help to put us in a good
reason and we didn't like stop, you know, we kept going.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Second half was the same and you know this ye
was a bit lost.
Speaker 5 (19:32):
I didn't see a lot from d C, you know,
thinking they were better than us. I think we were
much much better than them, and they were kind of
having no answer force, which was good to see. And
hopefully we can do almost the same against Atlanta this weekend.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Definitely, I mean, this was one of the more complete
games I've seen from the Union and in a long time,
and it just always seems to be building better and
better each week so far. Adam take it away. You
mean were you were in and out of the stands
during this one?
Speaker 6 (20:03):
I saw you, it did, I made it an appearance.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
My wife even made an appearance for a rare Lauras
Sclero cameo in the river end. But legitimately it was
one of those things where, you know, I got done
watching the Eagles earlier in that day and watching a
defensive struggle of grown men, just you know, big bodies
clashing against each other, and then I had the privilege
of seeing it again, watching Yaka Glenznez and Jack Elliott
(20:27):
man up on Christian Bentech the whole game and watching
them just deny, deny, deny the Golden boot leader in
Major League Soccer pretty much any opportunities to add to
his title.
Speaker 6 (20:40):
Like it was a it was total football.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
You know.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
It was total football from the Union in every conceivable way.
And the thing about what I loved the most about
Quinn Sullivan's performances, not to take away from the great
television program Ted Lasso, but it was the moment when
Jamie Tart basically said, you have to stop playing to
me and you have to start playing through me. And
the thing about Quinn Sullivan is he's like Stefan Marberry
(21:05):
in his prime. This man is a playmaker who can
call his own shot as well, which is something that
you don't find everywhere in Major League soccer. For a
guy who's not a pure number ten, for him to
come off the ball and be able to not only
put pinpoint passes on, but to take shots from ten
to fifteen to twenty thirty yards out and put them
on and frame with some accuracy. It is a double threat.
(21:27):
It is in what Seba says is completely correct. It's
a great compliment to the John Stockton that is Jack
McGlenn who's pass first. Let me get that vision, let
me find the guy and find the space to have
both of those guys and have them be young and
that talented is a great benefit to the Union when
(21:49):
they're cooking. So to watch him get these guys up top,
you know, service, it's been really fun to watch him.
Speaker 6 (21:56):
You know, Rome Free and I have to say, you know,
I love Julian Caranza.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
I thought he was the best. He's definitely going to
go down as one of the better goalscorers in Union history.
I don't miss him, you know, I don't miss him
because I'm seeing the same creativity, added Baribo into the conversation.
You know, you're seeing Gozdag and Uda and all these
guys play together like they've been playing together all season.
(22:23):
And yes, they've been playing together in practice. You know
that goes a long way. But it just feels like
we just slotted Tie into the Kranza space and he's
ran with it. You know, that last goal for the
fourth goal, seeing the combination, seeing the unselfishness where Tie
could easily be like, I'm about to go after the
golden boot, let me go, and he gives it to
Godzdag on an easy tap in situation. And you when
(22:46):
you're already up three to nothing late in the game,
you've already won this game. You don't have to necessarily
have that moment, but you do. And it just shows
the mojo of this team right now, like every part
of this team is working at a high level, midfield, attacking, defense, goalkeeping.
Like again, the phrase total football is what I used
(23:06):
because it just looked like the Dutch in the eighties.
Speaker 6 (23:10):
They were just crushing it.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
Yeah, this game, Gazdag has a brace. Let me just
go through some stats. That was his eighteenth of the year.
Quinn had two assists. He's got ten assists of the
season tie and Uras score URA's got thirteen goals and
I had a nine to four tie. But if you
take in leagues cup, I think he's at what did
(23:34):
we say, sixteen sixteen and that doesn't include what what
Julian was bringing in, so the stats are there. Blake
gets another clean sheet.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
And just saying how many games they did that because.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Very few amount of games and I don't have that
stat right in front of me, but again he.
Speaker 6 (23:52):
Got sixteen games.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
No, no, no, So that that's that's been impressive. And
brought it up. It was funny. I was sitting there
thinking of the old Cyo basketball days where you have
one really good offensive player and the coach would call
a box in one where one guy would just stay
in someone's shorts the entire time. And that's what Gleislison
(24:15):
Elliott did to Ben Techy because he really did not
have any opportunities and he's been the shining light for
DC when he has not been able, you know, against
the Union that game that was the blueprint. So it
was it was like golf clap to everybody involved. And
again Cavin watched. Cavin got in and almost blew the
(24:37):
roof off of with a brother to brother assist to
goal and just misses that. So I mean there's there
was a lot of excitement in the game. Now, smashion,
do you can you hear from the radio booth the
chance or just like you hear like a low marmer,
can you make any of them out or or not?
Speaker 5 (24:59):
The only one night I already hear it's every time
I have a corner kick. Because the entire stadium, you know,
Club and Change Union, the rest. It's very hard for
me to understand, especially you know with the word they're
thing and you know the noise since I've had set on,
you know usually what I hear.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
It's ah, exactly, yes, well, I just wanted to bring
out towards TODs the very end of the game, a
member of this podcast, not You Were Me started a
chant in the river end and it was starting to
catch on. Now, Adam, do you want to just go
a cappella? Do you want to explain it?
Speaker 4 (25:34):
I had to sing, I'm gonna do the was it
the William Shatner's spoken word version?
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Because it was catching on and I could see d
C fans looking down, And then we kind of went
on to something else, And I wish we went back
one more round because I think we would have had
the entire river end and people were doing the uh
the I don't know how you say the the a
cappella version of that, the D D D D lot
(26:00):
like people, why don't you tell mister Lettu what he
missed in the river end?
Speaker 4 (26:05):
So Sebastian I got pulled out of retirement again A
and Jared our head capo, is like, my throat is strong,
Like I can't go anymore.
Speaker 6 (26:16):
Can you start a couple of chants?
Speaker 4 (26:17):
And I'm like, I'm a couple of surveyss deep, So
I'm not necessarily in the greatest mindset to just think clearly,
So I'm just going for it at this point, you know,
that's the.
Speaker 6 (26:27):
Only thing I can do.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
And while I'm going for it and you know, feeling it,
I start an old chant of in the Jungle, the
Mighty Jungle, the Union kicked your ass, in the Jungle,
the Mighty Jungle, the Union kicked your ass owe and
I just did that for a while, and apparently the
(26:49):
people were for it, Like the river end was like,
all right, cool, I'm here for this experience.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
It was like a scene out of Friends when they
were trying to get Marcel the Monkey to recognize ross
At And that's that's what it was like.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
So what was was?
Speaker 5 (27:03):
I know, the song, but what was the.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
The main course, like, how do you have you are
just doing? Was that?
Speaker 2 (27:10):
It was just that in the jungle.
Speaker 4 (27:12):
Yeah, and I, you know, as a person who used
to do a little bit of amateur singing in his day,
I just kind of held the note as long as
possible and helped everyone else.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
What were you saying? I was saying in the jungle
the Union, the.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
Union caig your ass, and the Jungle, the Mighty Jungle,
the Union caigjur ass.
Speaker 6 (27:34):
And I thought, yeah, we did today.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
OK.
Speaker 6 (27:42):
Yeah, so there we go.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
I thought, you.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
See, and this is why we need to workshop this.
This is why I can't just do this in a
in a drunken stupor on a Sunday night.
Speaker 6 (27:55):
You know, I need help.
Speaker 5 (27:57):
Okay, but the next one, I think you got something.
But let's changing through DC and then you finish on the.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Well, we have to we have to adjust it for
Atlanta now because you know they're they're coming up.
Speaker 6 (28:07):
I have a couple for Atlanta already, but I'm not
going to spoil those. Those are two.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Those are two.
Speaker 6 (28:11):
Those are too crispy.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Yeah, So that was that was what we had going
on in the river and then so it was. It
was a fun day in Chester, that's for sure. It
was a really good weekend, really good weekend.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
Yes, Adam, real quick, I just want to do We
used to do this segment on this program called a
butt hat of the Week.
Speaker 6 (28:32):
Because I'm not sure what level of cursing I'm allowed to.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
Uh, but yeah, let's say that the butt hat of
the week is going to go to, uh, the DC
United Fans who did a chanting during the celebration of
childhood cancer I believe. Yeah, so during when the children
are beating the drum for the Union to start the game,
DC United started doing their own chance and then during
(28:57):
halftime when we're honoring the forty three, they were also
chanting through that as well.
Speaker 6 (29:02):
So I figured there was a lot.
Speaker 4 (29:04):
Of things about rivalry and everything that we did about
this that we can all be like, yeah, you know,
Darby got it. But I figured we could all come
together and say childhood cancer was a bad thing, but
apparently DC couldn't have to be bothered.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
Well, stay classy, DC, That's all we can say. We've
had some issues with one of those groups for many years.
Speaker 6 (29:24):
Streaming Eagles have been very nice.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Streaming Eagles are not the group that I'm referring to.
We don't need to talk about Bari Brov and how
they're angry little people, but that's okay, well not we'll
do that at another time. Let's just real quick. International
duty International USA Soccer. They regroup in October. Can't wait
to see what the hell happens with that. We've already
(29:46):
touched on USA Soccer enough in the last episode, so
we don't have to really get into that that much more.
But we do have upcoming Atlanta United. Guys, what do
we think It's Saturday night? Atlanta's coming off of one
one tie with red Ball. The other thing that concerns
(30:06):
me and I hate to look ahead after this game,
we're away in Orlando, away in Columbus and then home
versus Cincinnati. Do we have another miss must must win
game on our hands. It's Super Park on Saturday night.
Speaker 5 (30:22):
It's not a mus must win to me, just because
we have three more games after. But it's a big,
big one just because think if we beat Atlanta, you
put them away for the playerff contention. I don't think
they'll be able to to make the last two spots
and then it just leaves the Montreal, the Toronto and
the DC are still you know, in the mix as well,
maybe with a Nash as well, who is making a
(30:43):
run to go. But I think it's a big one
for us to let's eliminate one more team out of
the race, you know, and we can just focus on
having a good week when we go to Orlando and Cincinnati.
There it's gonna be two games those teams, you know,
our fighting for a good a better player player of
spots for.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Them, and uh, it's not gonna be easy.
Speaker 5 (31:06):
But the way we play and I think, uh, I
take back a code that Jim say is a press
conference of the games, like this team always do a
bit better when we play good team or let's say
the good team of this year.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
You know, are higher standing and maybe.
Speaker 5 (31:21):
It's more focused, maybe it's more like play from everybody
playing as a group. So I will not be surprised
if we get maybe good results when we play in
Orlando in Cincinnati, but I think we will get good
results there if we put ourselves in a better position
getting three points against Atlanta and kind of securing this
(31:43):
eight nine spots for the players, because if we win
Atlanta things, then we can maybe look and see what
happened to other teams and see maybe in number seven
could be reachable or maybe number six could be here
if the two teams you know, don't get some wins.
So it's very important, not the must win because it's
(32:03):
the three games.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
But it was good to get into six points.
Speaker 5 (32:07):
Last week because I was not saying we're going to
get six, but we got six points. So now they
can have a little help to maybe don't get the
best result, but you at home, so you need to
be that Planta put them out of their misery and
be like, Okay, guys, you can be in vacation, aybe
earlier than.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Yeah, Adam Atlanta and then we see what I mean
it goes.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
I mean, look, you gotta you gotta take care of
a business with Atlanta. I don't think it's a must
win because of just you know, uh, mathematically, it's not
a must win, right, But I say, if you're gonna
be the team that you want to be, and you're
really gonna say we're gonna compete for MLS Cup, like
we're gonna go for it, like you're not just gonna
try to make the playoffs. You're gonna try to make
(32:51):
some noise. You have to take down this Atlanta team
that's not playing well. They've won one out of their
last five matches. You know they're coming to your house
where you now have momentum. And you also have to
re establish your dominance in Chester again because that was
(33:11):
a huge part of what this team did for the
last couple of seasons was not lose in South in
a Delaware county. So you have to win this game,
I think, not because of math, but because of your swagger,
for the purposes of ego, for the purposes of going
to the next step and making sure that when playoff
time comes round, every team, including the Columbuses, the Cincinnatis,
(33:36):
and the Miami's, are afraid to get you in that drawl.
And I think this goes a long way. I think
these two matches you just played go a long way.
But you've historically done well against DC for a while now,
that's not shocking for everyone. But if you can do
this against Atlanta and you can take that momentum into
the next match, I say, you become a scary team
(33:59):
that is hot at the exact time you need to
be hot. So no, not a must win, but you should.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Well, then let's rephrase it, because I'm going to use
your words. I actually wrote it down right before you
said it. It's not a must win, it's a momentum win.
Let's keep this positive momentum. They beat Atlanta, take care
business no matter what, and we've got that momentum for
the next three games and then gear up for the playoffs.
So okay, we'll call it a momentum win that we're
(34:28):
wanting to see on Saturday night. Sabashian, you doing the
radio for that, No, I.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
Will not beus there. Shannon is going to do it.
Speaker 5 (34:35):
Because I'm a busy coaching my high school team on
Saturday night as well.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
Okay, well, good luck to Shipley on that, but good
luck to the Union. And speaking of playoffs, in the
only Union news I have right now, Union two lot
down the playoffs for MLS next. So congratulations to the
to the young guys. They are already going to be
in the playoffs and they've got one more home game,
I believe, on Sunday day after that. So if you
(35:02):
haven't caught them, Sunday's your best chance to catch them
before they go into the playoffs. So that's that's one
thing that you know, you might want to put on
your calendar. See if you can make a long week
in a soccer and we'll see now League news. I
don't know if you saw this, And the only reason
I thought this was interesting just because I know at
some point the Union need to expand Super U Park.
(35:24):
The Frisco City Council has approved one hundred and eighty
two billion public private partnership with FC Dallas to renovate
Toyota Stadium and Frisco one hundred and eighty two million
of renovate Fresco. Sebastian you've played there. I can't think
of another stadium that needs renovation more than that one.
Speaker 5 (35:44):
But I mean he has been let's say, much better around.
I remember it is my first time in America. I
came and he was at At the time, it was
named Pizza Hut Park.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
It was a name, and I'm it was pretty cool.
Speaker 5 (36:01):
Like they have a lot of field around and have
a big, big soccer complex. But now they start building
some apartments, some you know, little business we're over there.
And but the stadium, yeah, I mean, when you have
no stand behind one goal, it's already like a shame.
Speaker 6 (36:17):
You know.
Speaker 3 (36:18):
You want to have like a closed stadium.
Speaker 5 (36:21):
Usually you know are good about you know, all the
soccer stadium it's like it's closed.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
It's like you feel the sound into it. And Dallas
doesn't have that.
Speaker 5 (36:29):
And you know, it was for a long time for
them to get fans in the stadium.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
They are doing much better.
Speaker 5 (36:34):
But I think, you know, having a let's say, world
class facility will definitely and should help.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
Soccer, especially in Texas.
Speaker 5 (36:42):
You know, it's it's pretty big with a Latin community.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
You love soccer, but they need to have a fan stadium.
Speaker 5 (36:48):
They want to come to not you know, let's say
a crappy stadium or one of the first one you
know and ms but you know, now where the the
let's say the leagues, and that's a level of soccer
it wants to become. You need, especially in the last
to have, you know, something nice. And I always say
we always do it bigger in Texas or something, so you.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Know, everything's yeah, the saying is everything's bigger in Texas,
thank you good And Adam, did you see the rendering
or no?
Speaker 4 (37:18):
I saw the renderings and they look cool. But I've
also seen bigger high school stadiums in Texas too, So
I'm like, look, the biggest thing they needed was was
coverage of their fans. Like to have an open bowl
in Texas in the summertime is cruel and unusual, punished, barbaric.
It is literally the dumbest thing in the universe. I
(37:40):
have no idea how they got away with that. Hell,
I think Cincinnati should outlaw that, just on print and
not said Cincinnati Charlotte. Charlotte should outlaw that because of
the swampiness that gets.
Speaker 6 (37:50):
In the summer.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
So look, Dallas has arguably, and it's only because I'm
a Union fan. The top academy, if not the number
two academy in the United States. They're producing some of
the best talent that we have in this country. Their
facilities you need to match that you have the soccer
Hall of Fame is attached to your stadium. Your stadium
can't be looking like that when you literally have a
(38:13):
Hall of Fame attached to you Like It's just there's
so many elements that FC Dallas they're to me in
a lot of ways, next to Chicago as my most
disappointing franchise in Major League Soccer year after year because
of potential, because of what they could do with that
fan base, with that area, with that soccer jow that
(38:36):
they have down there, and what they actually produce, like
the mediocrity.
Speaker 6 (38:41):
On the field. Withstanding, you know, they just have not been.
Speaker 4 (38:44):
Able to capture a hotbed of sport, the Dallas Fort
Worth area. They haven't been able to snatch them. Even
with producing homegrown talent, producing occasionally international talent, having really
good kids ninety percent of the time, Like there's a
they have so much marketing potential and they squander it often.
(39:07):
So I hope this works out for them because I
want MLS to be a great league, and that means
not just the Union being great. I need the soccer
specific stadiums in Austin, Texas to be great. I want
San Diego to come in with all the bells and
whistles because I want the legitimization of American soccer, and
it happens with more than just my club. But if
(39:28):
we're talking about the top producing clubs here, they need
to have better facilities. That's just it, you know. So
I agree. I like the I think the renderings could
be a little bit better, if I'm honest, but I'm
happy that they're at least taking these steps finally as
an original Major League Soccer club, Dallas BYRNE to finally
get yourself into the twenty first century with this organization.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
What a terrible name that was, the Dallas Burn But
I mean, well, someday we're gonna have to get into
how bad these some of these names were.
Speaker 6 (39:55):
Bring back the Wizards.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
I'm glad that this citizens of Dallas will now be
shaded from the sun when they watch soccer. I want
to keep an eye on this just because you know,
eventually SUPERU Park's got to go under renovations. They can't
keep it at eighteen thousand. I know they're putting a
lot of money into the practice facility, and every day
I drive by the field house and more and more
gets into there. But I think as soon as that
(40:19):
project's done, you're going to see a lot of stuff.
Whether they go to the Data Pennsylvania, I don't know
if they can go to Delco. It's privately funded. But
the stadium needs improvements. I'm just going to be petitioning
that we put two doors on bathrooms from now one,
because one door entering a men's room is barbaric in
any sporting stadium. But we will get into that. I
(40:41):
did want to get into just two things around the
world soccer, then one last thing and then we can
wrap it up. In Keyon Daniel esque news. British footballer
Jay Simon Thomas, who we all knew plays for the
Scottish second tier Green Rock Greenrock Morton has been charging
connection with trying to smuggle cannabis worth eight hundred thousand dollars.
(41:06):
So pro football player in Scotland got busted for bringing
I don't know how much, Adam, maybe you know this
off the top of your head.
Speaker 6 (41:13):
Why would I know this, Matthew.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
How much poundage is eight hundred thousand dollars worth of weed?
This is not a small operation, right.
Speaker 6 (41:21):
Short answer? A lot? Definitely, this guy was not doing
this on his own.
Speaker 4 (41:26):
I definitely believe there might have been a cartel possibly
involved with this of some sort. Maybe they thought because
he was a prominent soccer figure that he could have
just you know.
Speaker 6 (41:37):
Skirt international law.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
But as a person who's had to deal with this
with some of the teams I've worked with, won't name
the team or the people, but I will say I've
had to deal with people try to smuggle drugs across
international lines before.
Speaker 6 (41:51):
Don't. It's just my first answer, Just really try not to.
I don't care what it is, even if it's xanax.
Speaker 4 (41:59):
Just old yeah, know, just make sure you like I
just man, it's twenty twenty four.
Speaker 6 (42:05):
I don't know what people think they could get away
with in this era. Not a lot.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
Just the Scottish second tier doesn't pay as much, I guess,
and he just needed a side hustle on sure.
Speaker 4 (42:14):
I have to say, in my in my guiltiest of pleasures,
I follow a lot of Scottish soccer and let me
tell you.
Speaker 6 (42:22):
Uh, it is cold up there, it.
Speaker 4 (42:24):
Is dreary up there, and they've seen a lot of
better days up there, so I can understand maybe he's
trying to expand his enterprise a little bit and his
earning potential.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
Wolf My guy. I don't want Sebastian to, you know,
implicate him or any of his former teammates or anything,
so we won't even touch on this part with him.
But then the last thing is US Group, the Frenchman
Group has finally agreed to take over Everton. That's in
the a little too much, too late, too little, too
(42:56):
late news. So Everton will have a new US own shortly.
They're just waiting Premier League ship approval of that one.
So I don't know. Good luck to all you Everton
fans out there. I actually do feel bad for you.
Eventually you're gonna get a new stadium and maybe you'll
stay up in the Premier League, but it ain't looking good.
And then the last thing, I just want to remind
(43:17):
everyone you have a choice, Adam Sebastian tomorrow. Well it's
not really a choice. You can do both. The Chumpiones
Club puts Columbus Versus America seven to thirty pm tomorrow
on Apple TV, and then you can do a doubleheader
with the US Open Cup Final, and this will be
the last time we get to mention it. Lafc's hosting
(43:38):
Sporting Kansas City at ten thirty pm, also on Apple TV.
So if you are an insomniac, you have got back
to back soccer championship level soccer on Apple TV. Which
one of you guys tuning into ours at both?
Speaker 5 (43:54):
I mean, I don't think I would watch with fifth one,
Gad the thickond one and as still and it's one
of my maybe still might record, you know before I
bete my assist one.
Speaker 3 (44:07):
I'm still the.
Speaker 5 (44:08):
Leading score on the modern era of the Open Cup,
So maybe I have to watch it, you know, for
all that you know to see, But I yeah, I
would like to see. You know, it's always fun to
watch the final. So I would watch the Open Cup final.
But it's kind of late, so it just depends how
much sleep I got.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
But yeah, if I have the cholice between the two,
I will watch the Open Cup.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
I think everyone's got to get a nap and that's all.
Speaker 4 (44:30):
Adam, I like how several watches it, like he's Mercury
Morris waiting for like the undefeated team in the NFL
the fall, so you can do the Champagne pay still
go to still leader all time, but thank you, thank you. No, Look,
I hate all of the teams involved. Let me start
(44:50):
with that. I don't like Club America. I respect Columbus,
but I don't like them. I hate L a f C.
With the passion and sporn in Kansas City is still
part of my childhood. So all of this means, uh,
I wish everyone ended in a time and I wish
that was the A, but we can't do that. So
I'm going to root for Columbus because America, like actual
(45:12):
United States of America and anti America meaning I'm anti
Mexican America.
Speaker 6 (45:19):
Yeah, that's that's what.
Speaker 4 (45:20):
Yeah, that version of America I'm anti. And then yes,
sport in Kansas City because I do hate L a
f C.
Speaker 6 (45:27):
Moore at the moment, and this might.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
Be Peter for Me's last trophy because I don't think
he's lasting in Kansas City after the season.
Speaker 6 (45:34):
Well here's the funniest part.
Speaker 4 (45:36):
The real thing that I want is Steve Tarundelo to
not win another trophy so that he will be one
in six in finals for.
Speaker 6 (45:44):
LAFC and he only won would be the major League.
Speaker 4 (45:46):
It would be MLS Cup, and that would be the
funniest thing to me to just be like, how if
it wasn't for Gareth Bale, you would be the most
delightfully mediocretique coach of a phenomenal rosterity ever. Like it's
it's actually funny to see how much they've been mediocre
in finals for how many finals they've gotten to in
(46:07):
their short history.
Speaker 2 (46:09):
Well, we've got a lot to look at before we
have Atlanta on Saturday. Sabah, good luck on Saturday with Shipley,
and hopefully when you're done at Shipley you can swing
by for the second half of the game and maybe
watch Adam do Is in the Jungle chat live and
in person.
Speaker 3 (46:25):
Oh I will listen to it from the TV party.
Speaker 2 (46:29):
All right, guys, everybody, thank you so much for tuning
into episode number twenty of X's and the U, and
we will talk to you next week.
