Ex president of the Sons of Ben Matt Kintastic X
head Capo Adam Booth X player and forever a Union
legend Sebastian Latou. These may be exes, but they're the
experts when it comes to the Philadelphia.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
U Yet, Welcome back everybody to X is in the
You boy, do We have a lot of stuff to
talk about from last week. This is episode number twenty four.
We're going to cover everything in the Union Verse and
the Union two Verse again. I am joined with former
Capo Adam Booth and current legend Sebastian Latwo. Guys, how
(00:43):
are you today? It's kind of a weird week, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Yeah, it's thanks body. It's very sinny and nice outso
that's a good week.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yeah. The weather's the weather's better than what the last
week presented to us. Adam, how are you doing? I
think Adam's having some difficulties, so we'll just kind of
keep going on. Adam, just give me a thumbs up
when you hear everything and you're good, always good. Yeah,
all right, I'm here.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Yeah, that was some headphone difficulties, but I think we're
going to live with it. But yeah, no, good, happy
to be here. You know, I'm going back to my
favorite place on the planet on Friday, Matt, So I'm
already in a good mood.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
So they put a Disneyland in Palermo.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
You would, honestly, they they would, They should. They might
be land for it, but I don't know if no
parties will let that happen. But now going back to
the Magic Kingdom because my wife has more friends that
want to see the Disney experience. So I have to
be another ambassador for America's happiest place on earth.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Another unpaid job you've taken on good job. Well, guys,
we can't avoid it any further. We got to talk
about the Cincinnati game. The re Union plays Union basically
played the Ohio Union version and we lost to the
one since he ended a four game winless streak and
(02:12):
they secured a twenty twenty five Conker Caff Champions Cup spot.
I mean, the only thing I can say is, wow,
that was a really good two to three minutes with
Quinn Sullivan starting us off. Who wants to take it
from there? Mister radio and analysis? Do you want to
discuss this game?
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Sure?
Speaker 5 (02:29):
I mean I talked about it a lot after the game,
but it was just yeah, like you said, awesome swimming,
exactly the way they should have played the game, but
they just.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Did it past three minutes. So you know, Dan, it
was the injury of a GANDAG who changed a bit,
you know.
Speaker 5 (02:44):
The the cud of the game, you know, offensive lee,
But I don't think we played very well. You know,
we just kind of started pending and we of course
did another mistake out of the back as a clearance
you know, during the ball in the extra time, and
then the momentum kind of ran down and I can't
(03:06):
even talk about the second goal, you know from glessness
own goal, and it just, yeah, a resume of of
what the season has been for the Union, and of
course at the end of the game, when nothing happened,
the gym decided to don't do any sub again. So
he was kind of interesting. But hearing from him, you know,
(03:27):
after the press conferance, it looks like for him, his
bench is not good enough to play. So it's you know,
happeel out to him for whoever is on the bench
for them, because I think there's quality. But he thought
he was going to get a results with the guy
on the field. But yeah, he was very kind of boring.
Second half, we don't see much. Even after the on goal.
(03:50):
I thought I was going to see a reaction something happening,
but pretty flat, you know, from from everybody, and and yeah,
just yeah, very disappointing because it was right here for
them to grab.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
You know.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Do you see, did he sing? I lost three zero
at home against Charlotte.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
We need that, and we didn't take advantage of it
and make the playoffs. So we just have us to
blame and nobody else, you know, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Exactly, Adam, your thoughts on this one.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
I was not, No, I was. I had to I'm
now a godfather, so I had to be at a
naming ceremony around the same time, so I missed it out.
But I catched all the highlights and obviously I did
the classic replay of double speed, you know, just to
make sure that I got all the notes down and
look a couple of things about it. I think if
(04:41):
you wanted to give Quinn Sullivan the MVP of the
team for the year, I'm not going to argue hard
about that, you know, I think, especially down the stretch.
You know, it's a combination of the fact that he
was in he was in for it, like he was
very much engaged into this and he definitely wanted to
produce at a high level, and a lot of other
people were not producing towards the end there, And I
(05:03):
think this game, you know, when we talk about the
subs and we talk about the things towards the end,
I'm looking at this bench right now, and after you
sub in DJJ for Gozdog, you're looking at a bench
here where you made the sub for glesn As you
put in Beadoya okay, and then you put in Jeremy
(05:27):
Ralfinello for on Leon Flock. So who's left on your
bench at this point is Chris Donovan, Olivia and Bizo,
Samuel Adan and Cavin Sullivan and Hayeses Buna. That's your bench.
(05:47):
And I gotta say, Jesus might come on and do
something for you. He has he has potential, He's done
something in the past. Chris Donovan is a natural striker
and so is Sammy. So, like, if you're going to
go that route that's there. Outside of that, what do
you like? I don't know. I think what Jim said
kind of has some merit, and this is like it
(06:09):
goes into my wish list that I want to talk
about later. But it's like the backup talent is not there,
you know, the reinforcements are not there that when you
have injuries, when you have poor performance, you don't have
someone coming off the bench that's truly going to be
an outright game changer. People who have potential are there,
(06:31):
but I don't think any I don't think when Jim
looks down at the dudes warming up in front of
the river end, he's looking at a level of quality
that he thinks can actually do better than the guys
who are currently on the field, you know, And that's
what he's stuck with. He's making substitutions for the sake
of fatigue and not for the sake of quality. And
(06:51):
when you're kind of stuck like that, that has you
playing your guys seventy seventy five minutes, that has you
doing subs in case of emergency because you're hoping that
the quality on the field, despite fatigue, can at least
get something going because you don't trust what's on your bedge.
I mean, that's fairly obvious.
Speaker 5 (07:09):
I'm sorry, but I disagree with you, and it's just
my opinion, but he's a coach, you know, you have
to see that your guy even if yeah, maybe they're
the best or whatever, but they are not doing the
things that I was supposed to do for seventeen minutes. You
have a guy like Kevin Sulivan who maybe he's not
going to do nothing, but why not give him a chance?
You have a guy like I didn't even did nothing
(07:30):
this season? Or why not is this game and if
his go everybody's going to be forgetting about how bad
he was, you know all the game it came in.
Why don't have Chris Olvan coming in like it's just
what I do. I don't disagree with you know, Jimmy,
I understand, but when you say that you have a
guy like Lesus Buenos Bueno came on in New York
score since then play five minutes?
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Tell me why.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
I just don't understand. I'm not here every dabt practice.
But in the same time, it doesn't matter. If you're
producing games and he can run and he can help
the team, why not put him in. But if you
have a coach who think like that right away, of
course I'm not gonna be confident again because I already
believe I don't know that the coach believe I'm shit.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
I don't know. It's just it's just it's sill. You
can see both ways.
Speaker 5 (08:17):
But for me, when you saw the game and so
there's not a short on target, like I don't care
if it's Barribo whatever, Like let's talk about Barribo. Imagine
the same game Baribo didn't play one minute and he's
still on the bench. You still have the same thing.
But because we saw Barribo and he played more than
five minutes, he took his chance. He make it happen,
and now it's, you know, a great striker and everybody's like,
(08:39):
oh Barribo when four years he never played or he
played twenty two minutes.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
So it's it's just, you know, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
I I feel weird about the fact that you know,
Jim I understands as this player, but he doesn't want
to play anybody else. So you know, same time, it's
like you can complain as much as you want, but
how about you try them more than five minutes. And
sometimes it's like, yeah, you take your chance, but if
you don't have it, okay, now we can see, but
you have to give them in a right perspective. So
(09:09):
I don't know as a coach vision, I don't get it.
And I know where you come from, and we all
know it doesn't like to mix up ut whatever, but
sometimes like let's stop hiding behind these things that your
bench is should because like if they are professionalal if
that somebody saw in them some quality, maybe it's not
here yet because we all talk about confidence. But that's why,
(09:30):
like I watch a game, I'm commented the game, there's
nothing happening.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Let's do something crazy. I don't know. It's we are losing,
there's nothing to lose more.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Yeah, here's a question for both of you, Like, I mean,
I don't know those guys on the bench, you know,
in Baizo or Sam, would they do have any less
effort than what we saw on the second half because
the second half was no real momentum, no effort, sloppy play,
sloppy careless person is coach at some point even if
(10:01):
you don't think these guys are a better quality than
what you have on the field, what you have on
the field wasn't performing. They didn't show up. Call it
a bad hair day, call it, I don't know what,
but they they weren't playing well, so as a coach,
I would think I got to shake something up, get
some energy, get somebody running around out there. So yeah,
I wasn't sure about that. With with you know, he
(10:24):
only subthed in Raphanelo out of all those guys after
you know whatever injuries and yanking glovesness off after that mistake,
he only put one guy in. And like I said,
but I don't understand why why he did it, you know,
And I just didn't know if you guys had had
an answer.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
I don't have an answer.
Speaker 5 (10:45):
It just is a way Jim has been since he's
been coached here.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
You know, he doesn't change.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
Sometimes it's like we have a club who wants to
I think, you know, for there's a lot of talent,
and but if if that's if I'm less, say sixteen,
and I see Jim Curtain here, in.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
My head, I'm like, am I going to play? Even
if I'm good? Am I going to have a chance?
You know?
Speaker 5 (11:09):
It's it's it's tough because you want to, you know,
produce a lot of player, and there's a lot of
good players in Philadelphia. But I'm just saying, as a
player and when you're operasional and if you are young
or whatever, you need to have some confidence of your coach.
But you can see the gym as zero confidence on
the people on the bench. And he said almost openly
in the press conference, which for me, if I'm on
(11:32):
the bench, I'm just okay, but can I please, you know,
leave because I know Jim doesn't you know?
Speaker 3 (11:40):
I think I'm good enough.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Yeah, I agree, And I think when when you mentioned
what was the quality left on the bench, I would
have brought in Hazers and Harvey. I would definitely tried
to bring him in and see if he changes the game.
I would have broad in Sammy to do that. I
think he looks at them and says, that's not Gonnaugh
and I think of anything, if there's any bright side
to it, I can see it as a possible cry
(12:06):
for help, basically being like, hey, guys, my roster's not
what I need. Can somebody fix this for me? Possibly,
like I if that's not just saying in more uncertain
terms like yeah, it could be also covering your butt
saying like I didn't want to sub because I don't
have enough quality, and it's just well, maybe because you
just didn't want to sub. But it's also could be
(12:27):
just saying to the people in charge, hey I need help.
And if that's another sign of hey I need help,
I'm kinda for it. If it's that's the goal, end
game of it. But at the same time, look, the
bench quality for the Union has gone down even from
this year, you know, when you had guys like Pereiro,
when you guys had like Torres, when who barely played
(12:49):
in the system to begin with. Anyway, you alt least
have those guys, and if you have them right now,
I would have them a lot more confidence in them
than a lot of the people that we have right
now in are reinforcements. So it's it's look, I'm disappointed
on multiple ways, but I think some of the issues
that we have are much deeper than subs and and
(13:14):
fundamentalness about how we're just playing soccer right now. And
when I heard like some of the comments from Kai
basically saying he doesn't know if everyone in here has
the same attitude or everyone in here is trying to win,
you know, I think that is as pointing in as
anything to me, because that could just be not even
just the bench, I could be the starting eleven, and
(13:35):
that's that's a weird moment that I don't remember. With
the Union, it seemed like for a very long time,
especially with Jim at the Helm, everyone kind of bought
into the we're not going to be the sexiest team
on the earth, but we're going to be the most
efficient team on the earth that we're going to beat.
You to hear that from a season left back and
(13:56):
probably one of the leaders on your team, that to
me was a little it was a little off play.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
And I did want to get into that because we did.
We did Mark KUIs notes and Smashan did you hear
those comments from Kay or did you read them at all?
Speaker 3 (14:09):
And I did not. First time I'm hearing it, so I'll.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Just read a little bit. He goes, I feel like
everyone knows each other too well already, especially the core
group we have. We have a lot of fighters on
the field, a lot of veterans, you know. And he
goes on like that. But he goes, I don't think
we had enough of that this year. You know, players
from the bench. He goes, I love our homegrowns, but
you don't win games in this league with just homegrown players.
(14:33):
He was kind of all over the place, but he
literally said it in the press that he thought some
guys were already planning their vacation and that they're not
upset about the loss and that they're ready for their break,
and the way he was saying it, it sounded like
some of the guys that were in the starting eleven,
(14:53):
not people from the bench. That was that was the
gist of his comments. And then Ali had some comments too,
So is that is that what we're thinking restagnant? Does
this roster have to be blown up or retooled? Ali
on his and he was being very political. So Ellie
(15:15):
was like, I could give you something really good to
write for your articles, but I think I'm just gonna
bite my tongue down because I'm very emotional tonight and
I don't want to say the wrong things. But I
think it's pretty clear to many, you know, some of
the issues. And then he goes, even from going to
the MLS Cup final, you know, has there been a
(15:37):
little bit of lack of ambition in terms of type
of signings you guys, And then he said he's going
to get into trouble and so he stopped talking about that.
So that was Ali's comment. So, I mean, Kay's calling
out the players. Ali's kind of calling out the front
office right now, everyone's pointing the finger at each other
(15:57):
of and Jim's point at the bench saying, I don't
have enough unition. So what's this off season going to
look like?
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Guys, you gotta do look and if you this is
the biggest off season for the ownership group, possibly in
the history of the club, but at least in the
last couple of years. And the reason why I believe
so is it's not just about improving the on field product.
(16:26):
You also have to get the confidence back in your
and your fan base. You know, your customer base is
at a point where they don't trust you to try
to make the moves that it takes to compete at
a new form of Major League soccer that you find
yourself in major the MLS that you found yourself in
(16:46):
the beginning of the pandemic is not the same one
that you play in now. And our league evolves fairly quickly.
And what has to happen is you have to be
a team that is able to adapt to these things.
And I believe that the Union have been very successful,
but they might now be getting caught. And the problem
(17:09):
is if they're going to do enough things to circumvent
the fact that they're not necessarily roster wise competing with
the rest of the league at this point, you know,
I said this, and we'll go into deepness, but like
there is about four to five positions right now that
definitely need to be evaluated. And I'm saying there really
(17:31):
shouldn't be any person on this roster outside of Andre
Blake that feels safe. Like that should just be the
philosophy about this. You know, maybe God's dog, but outside
of that, every other person on this roster should feel
that the Union can and should go out and find
someone better than them. And like, that's the conversation we
have when you talk about when we run back rosters. Really,
(17:55):
when you do that, you're retooling, you're reloading. You're trying
to get the roster together for the purposes of saying, hey,
we're good enough already, we just need little things to
tweak us and get better. Most MLS rosters are not
saying that. Most MLS rosters are saying, we need to
just get better even if we're good. La doesn't sleep
on their laurels. Galaxy don't sleep on their laurels. You know, Miami.
(18:19):
The thing about Miami is the kicker about it is yes,
they have these great signings, but they also have a
phenomenal homegrown product system. They have great players that they've
come through their ranks to get up to play with
the Messis and Alva's and all of that. That's what
should That is closer to the model now because it's
a hybrid of both. And I think the Union have
(18:42):
to look at the team that just got the most
points in MLS history, why they did that and how
that became a thing and what is MLS now And
if the Union see that, that means look, most of
this roster needs to be overhauled, just flat out.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Yeah, Sebastian, what do you think of the rest? Like,
you know what teams where you've had some success and
had had either retool or blow it up.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
So I mean, where should I stell Guys, I'm going
to go back to what I say from the beginning
of the year.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
You have a team, which is a good team.
Speaker 5 (19:17):
We have, you know, and we re signed pretty much
everybody a bigger contract.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Okay, because everybody, of course deserves the.
Speaker 5 (19:26):
Rais and that's totally understand But then what happened is
you have all those guys who now make two times
more than they was making before, and the motivation is
not here. They are okay to have, you know, these
good salary and it's normal.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
It's a human thing. You know, are probably be the same.
Speaker 5 (19:44):
You know, you make a you have three more years
of contract and you make you know a lot of
more money than you were making maybe two years ago,
and the motivation is maybe not as much as it
is knowing that your coach don't play anybody else behind you,
so you don't feel threatened.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Kai Bagner doesn't have anybody for his position.
Speaker 5 (20:04):
The only one is maybe here'al by, So we're kind
of like switching on and of this year, Gladness and
Elliott didn't have anybody besides maybe Demian nor when he
came in. But it was very hard for Demi and
not to you know, be better than Glassness or Eliot
because there are the two guys of Gym.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
Then he was Martinez. You had Flank who came.
Speaker 5 (20:24):
Back from injury, you know, and was kind of pushing
Maglin out of the starting eleven on the left side
just because you know, you were harder.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
But Magnan is better on the ball.
Speaker 5 (20:33):
Gazdag has nobody as a number ten and the forward
it was always come on. Then we haven't see aruble
to try to push them to get better. So when
you don't have anybody who play to show, you know
the coach and hey, I'm right here, I'm going to
push you.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
I'm going to challenge you.
Speaker 5 (20:48):
So if you're not good enough, next game, the coach
can switch and pleby Jim doesn't do that. So the
motivation was not here as well. Like you said, maybe
the kay I think is right. Like probably some guys
wanted to be indication because it's been five years they
are being on top.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
But at the end, you know, it's like anybody else.
Speaker 5 (21:06):
You know, it's hard to motivate yourself when you know that, oh,
your job is secure and you're going to have, you know,
twenty five study games a year and no problem if
you stay healthy. It's the only you know, thing happens
this year is there was no challenge for any of
them because they know that doesn't matter how they play,
what mistakes they do, and it was a lot of
crazy mistakes these years.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
They will play. The next game is the I'm not
going to get sid.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Yeah, when you know you're not going to get fired
or you know you don't, you don't have to try
as hard. I want to point out to everybody listening
and to you guys. I don't know if you've seen it.
Philly dot Com The Inquirer had a great little exercise
from Jonathan tannamal adamount. If you got a glimpse of this,
you can nod your head yes or now. But he
has an article saying should they stay or should they go?
Speaker 6 (21:50):
Basically, and you get to vote, and you can get
to see when you vote, you give a thumbs up
or thumbs down, and it will then give you a
poll of.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Who you voted for who Tannemwall thinks should stay, and
then it gives a percentage of the crowd that's already voted.
So it goes through the goalkeepers, Blake Rick, Trent Oliver,
you know, it goes through all the defenders, and it's
a great little exercise. I printed mine out just to see, like,
there were guys that are signed to contract for next
(22:22):
year that I'm like, who the hell is this? Or
I didn't even know Matt Real was still part of
the team. There are people in there to support Sebastian's
point where I'm going. I forgot they were still here
or they've been. They have a first team contract, but
they're stuck in you too, and we never see them.
So anybody, if you get a chance, get on Philly
dot com. I think you guys should take a look
(22:44):
at it and see. I was even shocked at some
of the people voting like for the defenders. Let me
let me just read the defenders, Like Brendan Craig to
stay is seventy seven percent. We haven't seen Brendan Craig
in two years. Jack Elliott was a seventy eight percent
to stay. Gleusness was fifty six percent to go. That's
(23:05):
just people reading the Inquirer voting on who they think
should come and go. But you'll see this roster and go, god,
we need a lot, Like we don't just need two
center backs, we need three or four that they could
play that position because we need the depth and we
need to push them. So when I read that, I go, oh,
this roster is not as solid as I thought. You know,
(23:27):
when you go into it and you go, I'd love
to keep a rebo in gaz Dag. But let's be honest,
if somebody from Europe offers five million for those guys,
they're gone. So how do we replace this and which
way do we go? And I think this might be
Ernst Tanner's most trying off season that he's ever had,
maybe in his career.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
But it's all I mean, I think it could be
both though. I think it could be a great opportunity
for Ernest because like, look, if if I'm rich and
j and I look at this the way that I
look at this, anything you'd do right now is going
to be beneficial, you know, like as long as you
do something, as long as you do something, it's beneficial
(24:07):
for what you're trying to do. Obviously, it's much more
complicated than that, and we can we can't even begin
to describe the complications of it. But in the grand scheme,
showing some some alacrity, you know, sewing some effort into
this offseason and putting some serious names in here. And
I don't need them to be the sexy names that
(24:30):
everyone is looking for, because look at this. As much
as I give credit for signing like a Bineke, how
does that exactly have helped DC unit it In the
last couple of years he's gonna win the Golden Boot
and they're not making the playoffs, Like, how does that?
Speaker 3 (24:44):
So?
Speaker 4 (24:44):
I'm not about just signing someone just to sign it.
The reason why signing a guy like Allivier Dreux works
for LAFCS because the foundation LAFC has around it. They're
not asking Olivia Dreux to show up in score twenty
seven goals for them. They're saying, contribute how you can.
They're not asking Hugo Lauris to stand on his head.
They're saying, be the best goalkeeper that you can. Too often,
(25:07):
Major League Soccer gets gets the Shakiris and the Bergadeski's
and all these guys and say save the franchise. And
I don't want the Union to get one of those
signings because they don't need that. But what they need
to do is get consistent players who can create their
own like a Quinn Sullivan, who seems to be one
of the few guys on the scene that creates for himself,
(25:28):
but create their own, have a nose for goal on
the offensive side, have a nose for defense, and be
a little bit quicker. If I'm honest with you, Because
I love Jack and I love Jake. They're getting beat
they're getting beat off all and the problem was they
or the solution was they used to have a Jose
Martinez to help them out. They don't have that anymore.
(25:48):
So you need to figure out what that situation is
going to be. Like It's just the Union worked as
a collective body. It was from the back all the
way up, each level worked in a symbiotic relationship. It
wasn't just one or two guys playing hero ball and
winning the day for us. If they want to keep
(26:09):
that philosophy of Jim's going to keep using the diamond
and all that stuff, then we need to think about
it in that format. And a lot of this meanings, Yeah,
we need to get first quality players, or we also
need to make sure that we have backup plans because
it could just be dead legs half of this stuff.
It could be that our center backs have played more
minutes together than any other center back pairing in the
(26:30):
last four years of MLS. It could be a lot
of this kind of stuff, and it go falls back
on Jim making more substitutions. That's obvious, but.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Yeah, Sebastian Jim is an opportunity if we let it
be sorry, Adam, go forward. Sebastian. Do you think there's
a disconnect between Jim and Ernest with their judgment of talent?
Speaker 3 (26:54):
I think so. I don't think that's c eye to eye.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Yeah, I have the fund the same feeling. That's why
I asked you, just because you know, and neither of
them are perfect. I mean, you know, I know Ernest
loves Chris Donovan, but I don't see it. Would I
would have mister Donovan go anywhere else he could go,
and I would go somewhere else in a different direction.
And then you look at someone like Glesness, where I
(27:21):
think we're on the hook for another one point five
million next year, so who's going to take him? You
can put him in the expansion draft and hope San
Diego wants to spend that money. But would they do that?
Would they want to tie up that kind of money
with the salary cap? So I don't think you can
really get rid of a Gleasedness. So now you've got
that stuck again. So there's a lot of intricacies to
(27:43):
this roster and who we paid and who we're stuck
with and who we keep. And I think they extended
Elliott I'm not sure, So we might be stuck with
both of those guys for another season with really no
a limited option of getting rid of them, just the
way the league's set up. So it's kind of where
we are. Just if you guys have anything to wrap
(28:03):
that up and then we can move on to something
a little bit more positive. But let me know if
you have any other thoughts about the roster roster construction.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
Real quick right now. And a bunch of these people
have been resigned, and Quinn Sullivan literally just got resigned,
so this kind of messes with what you have. But basically,
within the parameters of how everyone's spending, the Union probably
need to spend about two million more dollars on your
(28:34):
annual salary spread out amongst the roster to meet the
levels of Columbus, to meet the levels of Cincinnati, to
meet the levels of the peers that you're competing with
with also with your homegrown philosophy and everything else in between.
So the question is where is that money going to
be prioritized because you're not necessarily going to get it
(28:56):
off the books so much you basically resign most of
the people that are going to take the books the
biggest number that could possibly leave your books at this
point is Jack Elliott and he's he's available. That is
that he is available, so unless they've resigned him in
the last month, but he was available. He's eight hundred
thousand dollars a year. So that's gonna be the biggest
(29:17):
book because after that it's uddhah who's not leaving. So
for you, if you're not gonna get a lot of
money off the books, so you're gonna have to expand
the pocketbook. And you're gonna have to expand the pocketbook
about two million dollars to again reach your peers. And
then that's gonna have to be spread out in what
You gotta get some center backs, you have to get
some midfielders, and you probably have to get another backup striker.
(29:38):
That's before you have to think about the first team.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
I don't envy earth Sebashion any any last thoughts on
the roster before we kind of move on to brighter things.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
No, I'm just saying that for me, you know, after
yes amazing five years, six years from the union, I
think it's time to you know, to get a little
turn around and bring some fresh, you know, blood into
the squad, and I really hope, you know, the Union
two is going to do a good run in the
player because there's some quality players, there's some young player.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
And I think, you know, we should.
Speaker 5 (30:13):
Hopefully have a better look at them, you know, the
being of an xcar, because a lot of them we
deserve to play. And what I like about it, it's
they are very hungry to.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Make a name for themselves. So and it's why we need.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
Now and Adam, that is a championship transition right there,
because that's what we're going to get into. Union two.
On Sunday night, played New York City FC two in
Subaru Park. I was flying from Boston and my flight
got delayed in there because the current Vice president and
(30:47):
President Hopeful decided to park Air Force two on the
tarmac for a while, so I was late getting in there.
I caught the last seven minutes of the game, missed
the goal by about I don't know about twenty or
thirty feet from me getting into the stadium. Missed the goal,
but CJ only with the winner. I'll tell you what.
That was my first Union two game, and I don't
(31:08):
know how long, probably since Bethlehem Steel started coming down
and they had from section one oh three to one
eleven pretty much packed a lot of people there, great
little environment. I was so happy for the Bridgeburgade guys
because there's just a ton of people. The crowd was great,
(31:30):
and they're going to play on Saturday at five o'clock.
If you're a season ticket holder, you can still get
a ticket for seven dollars. Why wontn't you do it?
You know it's gonna be a beautiful night. Union two
pick their opponent on the next pro pick your opponent,
So did you see who they have? Adam?
Speaker 4 (31:47):
No? But again, I love this format so much. I
love picking your opponent because it's it's a two head sword,
but I love it. I love it so much.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Please picked Crown Legacy, which which is Charlotte and they
beat them three nothing because they could have picked I
think Columbus, who they played three times. So they were
just like, well, Crown Legacy is the lower seed. We're
gonna pick Crown Legacy and let's see what happens. So
that's gonna be on h I mean, I was totally.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
Crown who beat Cincinnati's a number one seed.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
Exactly, which which is weird because did you just new
York Mets yourself. Did you just pick the hottest team
in the playoffs with Crowd Legacy coming in? And does
that mean Tommy Wilson's coming back? Because I think he
owes us a beer at least right for put saying
his name as much as we have. But yeah, the
the uh? I think I think Saturday is gonna be
fun and I'm thinking about going, and in fact, I'm
(32:45):
trying to convince my better half to go. I said,
it's a five o'clock, we'll go to dinner afterwards. What
about you guys, you're thinking about attending Subaru Park for
Crown Legacy Crown Royal versus the Union two.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
I was watching the last game on my TV, so
I'm going to keep it that way, so I feel
it's maybe on TV.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
I don't know you were that superstitious.
Speaker 3 (33:12):
I am.
Speaker 4 (33:14):
Adam, I will be in Epcot. That you did say
you were going on my phone?
Speaker 2 (33:21):
Okay and uh.
Speaker 4 (33:23):
And shout out to the little Boys in Blue. I'm
here for them. I'm excited for them because they actually
have a really good squad and a lot of good
a lot of good talent, and they just put on
I went to a bunch of YouTube games this year.
They put on a fun.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Time, you know, and I'll tell everybody out there, like
what I was impressed with wasn't just on the field
and watching it, but after the game you could see
how much it meant to those players that there were
so many people that the entire squad came up to
the sideline and was just sitting there and taking selfies
and signing autographs. And let me tell you, Adam wags
(33:58):
start in the teen years, because I saw a couple
of teenage girls like walking around pointing, oh, he's over
there and making b lines for it. So apparently there's
no age limit on groupies if you can be.
Speaker 4 (34:11):
If you know someone's about to go play international soccer,
you might want to try to hop on that thing
before he crosses the pond. My guy, I'm just saying that.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Yeah, it was a little odd to see that, but
I was like, wow, but the environment was great. And
I will tell you I saw three former Academy players
taking it all in.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
You know.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
We obviously Quinn was there, but and I believe I
saw a Chris Albright donning a Union hat in the audience,
watching his cousin or his nephew, whatever the relation is. So, yeah,
it was a great environment and I hope everybody descid
to come out and check it out. And Sebashian, you
make sure you stay on your sofa because we need
them to win, because I think Marlon knows if you
(34:51):
show up, it's a bad omen.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
Yes, badly.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
So yeah, we've got that coming on. So we said
it before, Well we said earlier. Quinn just signed a
new deal. He is signed to guarantee through twenty twenty seven,
with an option for twenty twenty eight. And it was
announced that Jeremy Raffinello also got a contract extension through
twenty six with options for twenty seven and twenty eight.
(35:19):
And the other thing, Adam, did you dig into this?
Did you see the new seating options at Subaru Park?
Speaker 4 (35:28):
And well, I saw some renderings of some possibilities of
seating arrangements. Yeah, continue your next sentence, Matthew.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Well, so, and I don't know if you saw, but
it's there's the north lounge field side. It's just expensive seating.
They're going to put people on the sidelines behind both
goals and it's going to be a very food and
beverage kind of like your seats with the six at them.
(36:01):
Very bougie, very posh food, and yeah, very demure. They
are also doing some like shifting containers up on the
upper level where it's kind of like a party suite
with a roof deck and everything, and they're not cheap.
But I will applaud them for trying something different because
(36:21):
they have to generate revenue out of that stadium one
way or the other, because all these other teams are
selling out at twenty seven thousand, and they've got seventeen
eighteen thousand, So for people that might poopoo this idea,
you want them to spend money, they need to bring
in money. So that's the new seating smashing. Did you
see any of this at all.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
I heard about the sideline sitting, Yes, that you like,
say premium sitting, but they ain't about to container on
the dep of the deck, so it would be interesting. Yeah,
Like you said, as much as we can bring more
people to the stadium, it's it's great.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
Yeah. And then on the room or front, which I'm
almost ready to completely confirm, looks like the Union will
be training in Spain and in clear Water, and Spain
will be on the southern coast and it looks beautiful.
So I think we need to do a road trip
for that in January. So training hip starts hitting January
(37:19):
this year, guys, because I believe the season is starting
in February, so we don't have a lot of time
for this off season to get going. Just just something,
but just let you know, save it on your calendar.
We're looking during one of the first holidays in January,
maybe we'll make a pod trip to Spain to scout
out the new team. And then in just league news,
(37:42):
wild card matches have begun. Did did anyone see Atlanta
defeat when to face MESSI nope.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
I saw. I saw the highlights of that and Chateaus
and Martinez or Joseph Martinez y going there and almost
sinking his former franchise. That was That was a fun
little game. The end of it got very rowdy. Last
minute penalty kick goes on and Joseph jawing back at
each other, and I'm just like, oh man, friends become foes.
(38:17):
People friends become foes. But Atlanta withheld got the w
they all take on and beat the sacrificial lamb to
enter Miami.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Or maybe they get the upset. Maybe they say, hey,
this is still our league.
Speaker 4 (38:32):
We're in this still, so they will be the sacrificial
lamps into Miami. And you know, I think we could
all appreciate the fact that we can get one of
the worst jerseys in the history of the sport out
of here because whatever that blue thing and Lanta thought
that they were wearing needed to be burnt at the
stake or similar to what Sherman did to them.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
I was going to say there was a general that
could have helped them out with that.
Speaker 4 (38:54):
Yes, it was that, But I mean, look, every league
has expanded their place and I hate it. I know
it benefit at the Phillies that one time and that
was cool, but like every other time, I just hear
like expanded playoffs and playing games and all this stuff.
It kind of just like it cheapens all of this stuff.
For me, man, it does. I just the eighth or.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
Nice seed we would have been, we would have been,
We would have killed Saturday night to be the eighth
of the ninth seed, to be in that game.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
Like I don't but like yes, but at the same time,
I just don't think it's dumped. I just think if
I think if more than half of your league is
making the playoffs it cheapens the league. It does too,
you know, you have to make the top teams in
the league matter more than just one of them getting
a supporter shield and a couple of them getting Champions
League spots. Like a top four matter is pretty much
(39:44):
everywhere else, but in America it's like, eh, they can
play an eight seed to get upset and then boom,
their entire season's over. I'm just like, we don't really
reward greatness until it gets to the very end in
the Sutrey and that's something I kind of find a
little fascinating.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
Well, just to talk about cheapness tonight if you're interested,
Vancouver faces Portland ten thirty at night, if you guys
want to like that, Cascadia for the playoffs. So that
actually should be pretty interesting of the game. But we'll
see and then the regular the rest of the playoffs
start off Atlanta, Miami and the rest of the seeding.
So we'll keep an eye on it and just go
(40:20):
through the exercise even though we're not in there since
I think it's twenty seventeen, so the last time, you know,
that's that's when we started making our playoff run. So
it's been six good years and now we're going to
watch other teams in the playoffs. Just a little around
the soccer world news. Congratulations to del ram native Carly Lloyd.
(40:40):
She had her first child on Monday morning or afternoon,
So congrats to Carly. US soccer. We didn't get to
talk about this, Adam. How do you say? Is it?
Sarah e? Dos? Is that how it goes when Mexico
beats the US?
Speaker 4 (40:58):
I hate them. You know how to tell you?
Speaker 2 (41:04):
Let's let's US men's team. You hate right?
Speaker 4 (41:08):
Women are fine? Okay, Men's team. I think I hate you.
I think I'm tired of you. I think I'm going
back to be a France fan full time now I'm tired.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
I can't smash. Are you going to welcome him back
with open arms?
Speaker 3 (41:24):
To who?
Speaker 2 (41:24):
To Addam France?
Speaker 4 (41:25):
I'm gonna be a France fan full time again. I
can't do that.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
Yeah, we have a waiting list to know you can.
Speaker 4 (41:31):
Just I was there for a very long time. I
have I have credentials still get.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
Out privileges to French fan of my friend.
Speaker 4 (41:39):
I had a soccer jersey that I bought in Paris
when I was ten years old that still fits me
in the national team.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
I'm just fine.
Speaker 2 (41:49):
So the men's team, I can't say anyone was surprised
with you know, and everybody go back and who they
had for for Versus Mexico. But yeah, we're the next.
The US team is going to be something that we
watch with beta breath and I hope that there's something
we can do. And speaking of a fan base that's
(42:09):
always down on their team but has high expectations, do
we see who England picked up as their national head coach?
Two goal? So if you if you ever coach Chelsea,
you're basically gonna get a US or an England national
team job. That's basically it, because so far three Chelsea
(42:30):
managers are in charge of the US women, England men,
and US men.
Speaker 4 (42:36):
You're gonna get a job better than Chelsea. Is usually
what happens. Time. You just end up at Juventus and
you're just like, wait, how did I how did this happen?
Speaker 2 (42:44):
All right?
Speaker 4 (42:45):
Cool? Whatever? That like, I'm at PSG now whatever.
Speaker 2 (42:48):
Yeah, unless you're Marino, then you just end up in Turkey,
so I don't know.
Speaker 4 (42:52):
Roam for a bit. You had some fun there with
Tammy Abraham.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
He was yeah. So no, we're gonna we're gonna put
a on this one pretty soon. Just want everybody to remember,
uh s obs, the elections are starting. They've announced that
most of them were. I think you can still get
nominated if you want to, and they'll start the elections.
We'll get an update on that and bring everybody in
the fold. Tell me what's going on, and shout out
(43:17):
to the Bridge Brigade, the the youngins are bringing it
for the playoffs. And if you want to watch playoff
soccer in Philadelphia, you got to be in Chester five pm.
It's Saturday, Sebastian. You have anything about Shipley to tell us?
Any news? Oh?
Speaker 3 (43:33):
Yeah, playff guys, you know, no big deal.
Speaker 2 (43:37):
What the next when's the next playoff game?
Speaker 3 (43:40):
Setday?
Speaker 2 (43:41):
Thursday? Thursday is at home or away?
Speaker 3 (43:44):
It is at home since we finished second look at you.
Speaker 5 (43:54):
The Hopefully we win and probably findal we'll be against
West Town.
Speaker 4 (43:59):
Well, let's have a party on Montgomery Avenue. People, let's go.
Speaker 2 (44:03):
Yeah. I think the Bridge Bagade should get down there
and celebrate. You know, that's their whole thing.
Speaker 3 (44:08):
J w Okay, that's it.
Speaker 4 (44:10):
Yeah, we'll have we have to use all of our
light blue coloring because I think that's acceptable for shipley coloring.
But we don't have any green available, so we might
have to improvise.
Speaker 2 (44:19):
Yeah, we could probably wear some eagle stuff, right.
Speaker 4 (44:22):
Yes, exactly, Go Gators, Go Gators.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
Yeah, all right, everyone, anybody else have anything to talk
about and plug before we get it. Get get out
of here for the day. Yeah, this was a tough one, guys.
Speaker 3 (44:36):
This is tough to talk.
Speaker 2 (44:37):
About the end of this twenty twenty four season, but
let's stay optimistic about twenty twenty five. So again, Sebastian Adam,
thank you so much, and everybody hang in there. It's
eart season. Thanks a lot.
