Good morning everyone, and it's a beautiful day here in
the blue Grass. And it's a beautiful morning here at
the Third Training Center on Lester in Paris Road. And
then Michael Blowing showed up.
Speaker 5 (04:13):
Nice about his introduction, How nice it was, and you know,
getting up early on a Saturday morning. Really like at
the time, I could be all playing with silver charm
right now. Instead I'm in talking to him.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
That's what a shame.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
So that operation didn't work that well. I think it's
still in there.
Speaker 6 (04:31):
You're talking about his stone, Yes, yes, stone.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
My kidney stone. I was stoned all right. Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
They busted it up. He wanted it for his baby
book and they busted it up. Says nothing there. How
are you good?
Speaker 5 (04:49):
Good? I woke up.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
I'm old. This is good.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
We got a Belmont. It's an old Belmont jacket from
two thousand and two.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Oh is that right?
Speaker 5 (04:58):
Very important in Dolmont in the history of old friends
and war emblem was going for the triple crown. Okay,
war emblem is many of you know already. It was
a longtime resident of Bold Friends. He had already, of course,
won the Derby and the Freakness, and he was going
for the the Beach Enchilada in the Belmont and he
(05:22):
got beat by the longest shot in the history of
the Belmont. Sake ended up at Old Friends. Yes, yes, yes, so,
And now I'll have this jacket to commemorate.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Yeah, that's a nice looking I thought it was one
of the new Old Friends merchandise.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
It's fact because the new stuff's nice, isn't it?
Speaker 2 (05:42):
And that nice we wear.
Speaker 6 (05:43):
Our jackets are sweatshirts everywhere.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
They're nice. They're not kelly.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
It's comfortable, it's light.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Hits you warm, it's good stuff.
Speaker 6 (05:53):
I like it a lot.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
I have a question. Yeah, Betsy and I ride out
to see the boys every Sunday, and this Sunday the.
Speaker 6 (06:01):
Gate was locked.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
And do you know why.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
Yeah, because Marissa was probably having going to lunch and
doing something else and she didn't want people getting on there.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Oh okay, Well I was just gonna check because we
drove on down the road a tiny bit and we.
Speaker 6 (06:16):
Could look over it.
Speaker 5 (06:17):
If that happens again, just call me and I'll go
over and open it.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Up.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Okay, thank you, that's all you know, it's not that
far away, No, it isn't.
Speaker 5 (06:26):
No, And i'd get to see you and Betsy, so yeah,
Betsy'd be chickled.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
But we could see way down there on the fence
they were eating, so I knew they'd been fed somebody.
Speaker 5 (06:38):
Yeah, she probably just bet them enough shoes. She's unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
She was on TV the other day listen with our guys.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
Yeah you see, Yeah, I.
Speaker 6 (06:47):
Saw them on my phone.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
It was an article about how to take care of
horses when it's really cold.
Speaker 6 (06:55):
And there was that new SHD.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
So it was very good experience.
Speaker 5 (07:00):
Yeah, she did a great job.
Speaker 6 (07:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
Similar. She's one of the great one of the great
people who works at Old Friends that takes care of
these great animals.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
She has some kind of degree from somewhere in that
in animal management.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
Or she's done a lot of she's yeah, she got degrees.
Speaker 6 (07:17):
She's really Yeah, she's.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
Very confident and not just confident, exceptional.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Yeah. And she's very friendly and helpful and I like
her a lot.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Yeah, she's great. That's what keeps the spirit of Old
Friends going.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yeah, where's John speaking of going?
Speaker 7 (07:35):
Well?
Speaker 5 (07:35):
He's running busy. Every time I turned a running's out
doing something. Oh good, running around helping old friends. It's fabulous, good, wonderful. Meanwhile,
I just wait for my house where I'm really nice,
cozy and warm.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
It's real.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
It's really working out very well.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
He was in Florida last week. He was down there
for the CLIPS Award. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
I had a great time down there. Met a lot
of old friends, supporters, met a lot of thoroughbred app
care supporters.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Good.
Speaker 5 (08:03):
Yeah, had a good, really really good time. And you know,
he met Corey Johnson, one of our board members, was
there too. And because he's just finishing up all that
stuff they're doing over in Maryland, which is really interesting.
Were over in Maryland with Pimlico and racing in Maryland.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Oh what are they doing? Is that scar?
Speaker 5 (08:23):
No? No, it's great. It's a great. Yeah. A certain point,
you know, everybody else should take a look at what
they're doing, because, uh, you know, the state ended up
giving them I don't know how much money, a lot
of money, four hundred and fifty million or something like that. Yeah,
And and Corey Johnson and several other people, I think
Alan Foreman and and Mike Mike Rogers who used works
(08:49):
for work. I think he's the longest living employee of
Frank strawnick. Uh yeah, yeah, and they worked at worked
out this this deal where they're going to rebuild Pimlico. Yeah,
and and fix it up really really nice, good I think.
And it would be good for the for the community,
would be good to the horses, be good for everybody.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Now is that the last no Laurels in Maryland?
Speaker 6 (09:15):
They were in Laurel now, yeah, so that'll be two tracks?
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Is that the two tracks?
Speaker 5 (09:20):
Well, I think a Laurel run while they're picking up Pimlico.
Then I don't know what they're going to do with Lawrel.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Oh gotcha.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Well Pimlico is in Baltimore.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
Yes, where's Laurel. It's over, it's out in the it's
out in the horse country of Maryland, which just nobody
ever thinks about Maryland Bred. Sure, you know, but they
have a very active breeding program there.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Huh.
Speaker 6 (09:42):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
I don't. Yeah, you're right, nobody really thinks.
Speaker 6 (09:45):
Well, I don't don't mean.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
Anything, but I don't know what what's going to happen,
you know, I don't know they do. They figured it
out out. But I can't remember exactly what's gonna happen
in Laurel, but Pimlico is going to be beautiful.
Speaker 6 (09:56):
Yeah, that's great.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
What was that guy that is beyond television all the
time that just loved Maryland racing?
Speaker 5 (10:04):
Well, Jim McKay.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Jim McKay, Yes.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
Jim McKay, the guy who handled all the coverage when
the when the during the Olympics, when the Israeli he's
the guy murdered. Oh oh yeah, he Jim McKay was
a great guy and he loved racing. They still have
a day of racing named after him.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Oh, that's wonderful.
Speaker 6 (10:24):
I loved him on television.
Speaker 8 (10:26):
It was great.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
His enthusiasm just woke up.
Speaker 7 (10:31):
You know.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
And he was smart. You know, he was smart about it,
you know. Yeah, yeah, he's in love with it. That's
I need more people that are totally in love with it.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
He was one of those people that really knew the history.
A lot of the young guys and stuff, they're good,
but Tay he didn't have them.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
Well it's not like Earth living the history. He's a
walking history book. He walks, he talks.
Speaker 6 (10:55):
And there you go.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
All that. Yeah, eats and sweep too.
Speaker 5 (10:59):
Yeah, he's got to watch his diet now though, since
the kidney stone.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
And look, it took me ninety three years to work
up like them kidneys stone. If it takes me another
ninety three years, yeah, i'll take it.
Speaker 5 (11:12):
You'll sell. I don't believe you, all.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Right, kidney stones in front of anybody and they go,
oh no, I know, I know, yeah, but we're over that.
Speaker 6 (11:23):
It's good.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
It's not good. And then I'm trying to remember the
name of this horse last night. Bob Bafford had a
horse yesterday Santanda. Yeah, March of Time. March of Time.
He was right, Okay, thank you Russey. That's our cracked
research department. Russey's got it down there, and it's March
of Time one to nine.
Speaker 6 (11:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (11:47):
Owned by Bob's wife Joe, who's on the board of
directors of Old Friends, along with the the great free
agent for the ston Astros that I hope goes to
the Red Sox named Alex Bregman. Oh yeah, and the
third owner is Walker Muller Pitcher who isn't gone to
(12:10):
the Red Sox from the Dodgers. No kid, Walker Mueller,
Alex Bregman and Jill Baffert on this horse one to nine.
The horse goes out there one that night, loses by
a nose.
Speaker 6 (12:20):
Oh you're kidding.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
He lost, Yeah, he shouldn't here. I wanted to hear
Bob talking to the to the jockey afterwards, because I think,
what are my theories is that more races are lost
by jockeys that are over confidence than not confidence. And
then guy took his horse, you know seven wife going
(12:44):
for her home, and you know the others scooting up
the inside, and I'm going, what he must think that
he's driving the gattle and all the rest of them
have tricycles or something.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
I know.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
I thought Shoemaker could beat on slops one day because
he stood up with about twenty yards to go. Then
porter House came on the inside and beat him. My head, Yeah,
there's a.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
Lot of ways to lose.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
Yeah, that was but I think the overconfidence and I
think that's alphabet soup ended up beating Jerry Bailey in
the Beaten Cigar and Jerry Bailey in the the Bring
His Cup Classic because Jerry was so confident that the
Cigar was the best horse. He just kind of tried
(13:26):
it around then went durned time turned for home, will
wait a minute. It might he might have stepped on
the gas a little too late and he went, you know,
we went around and yeah, added a few more.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
I know you talk to him sometime in every UH
gate with that they're out going on.
Speaker 6 (13:45):
Around a turn, it's like a length.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
And a half.
Speaker 5 (13:48):
Yeah, it is, It really is. And plus they lose
momentum when they're trying to gather themselves when they make
that wide, wide, wide wide turns.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Yeah, and if they have to change leads, if they're
on their outside leading they have to go to the inside,
that's another half a second.
Speaker 5 (14:03):
But I'm glad I don't have to ride the horses
and both I take them to the outside that it's
get away from everybody. Just I don't want anything to happen.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
When when high school or college coaches, if they've got
a kid the dars pass somebody on the outside on
a turn, they make them run out and down the
steps in the stadium about one.
Speaker 6 (14:24):
Hundred and fifty times.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
So they don't do that again.
Speaker 6 (14:27):
It's real important. And I know a lot.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Of times you get stuck outside there's nothing you do,
But a lot of times it's a choice, and that's all.
Speaker 5 (14:36):
This wasn't a huge field, and he clearly had the
best horse.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
Now what's his horse's name?
Speaker 5 (14:41):
March of Time?
Speaker 2 (14:43):
March of Time? Now is that a Derby prep?
Speaker 5 (14:47):
No, it is an older horse.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Oh he's older now his Derby horse is.
Speaker 5 (14:53):
Or maybe he lost because he had a kidney stone,
I don't know, stuck making those turns.
Speaker 7 (15:00):
Kidneys.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
He's got Barnes, right, Barnes.
Speaker 5 (15:05):
Got one, got about he's going to end up having
about a half a dozen. I love the citizen bowls
in there, and the horse name Rodriguez is in there,
and he's got some really good ones.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Why the missive coach it all right? Now?
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Is that Barnes?
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (15:24):
I think it's so interesting.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
I got Barnes at twenty two to one. Wow in
the Future book.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
WHOA?
Speaker 5 (15:31):
And I said, and I bought a ticket for Jimmy Barnes,
Bob's assistant that.
Speaker 6 (15:35):
Yeah, he's named after it.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
It was only ten dollars ticket, but still he's got
his name.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
On it, and twenty two is all right, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
He's got it. He's got his name on it. That's
really why I got it. And if I just got
a two dollars take with the name on it gues
this guy's pretty cheap, and then if there's a ten
dollars one, they think, well, he's not really cheap, but
this isn't much. But anyway, now Jimmy at least has
a ticket with its Yeah.
Speaker 6 (16:01):
That's great.
Speaker 5 (16:01):
It was maiden race.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Wow, what well, Ursul said, there's a bunch of steaks today.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
Three the Withers, the Robert B. Lewis.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
That's when Bob's won that, like, you know, because Robbie,
Robert b. Lewis, the man that the race is named after,
owned Silver Charm and Bob realizes that mister Lewis has
just spent and he owned other horses. His wife's Beverly Beverly.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
Yeah, I can't say one without the other.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
One, right, Well, for good reasons. They were quite apparently Lewis.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
Now the Withers is a real old New York.
Speaker 6 (16:43):
Yes, steak I liked it was kind.
Speaker 5 (16:45):
Of it's at Aqueduct. Yeah. Yeah, all these old New
York states man they when they when the committee got
together and had degraded Steaks committee we got together, they
really penalized New York.
Speaker 6 (16:58):
Oh yeah, that makes me crazy.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
What grade is the weathers now should be a greadee.
Speaker 5 (17:06):
Not it's not even you know, it's a two hundred
and fifty thousand dollars.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Well that's terrible thing.
Speaker 5 (17:14):
Yeah, it is terrible.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
But did did man of war win the weathers?
Speaker 5 (17:18):
Yeah? I'm sure he did. See it's going on kind
of distances too, But this is it's a good race today.
It's why open I think?
Speaker 2 (17:28):
Is that right? What time is?
Speaker 6 (17:30):
Just tell me the time.
Speaker 5 (17:31):
Three forty six?
Speaker 6 (17:32):
Okay, I just like to.
Speaker 5 (17:35):
You and Diana the same way, because what times of
weathers on today? Well maybe maybe she didn't really say that,
so maybe I'm just hearingthing.
Speaker 6 (17:47):
Maybe she said whatever, you're going to get out of here.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
Although I have to say this about day and she's
getting much she really is getting into the racing part
of it and everything. Yeah, yeah, she loves it. I mean,
you know, after twenty years are really gone from I
really like it too. I really really liked it. Oh
that's fun, I think, So it's not true. When I
get home, she'll let me do.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
The favorite Dyane story for me was that beautiful chestnut
horse from France. Creator creator and you said, I think,
well what happened was it was a day very much
like these cold days we've been happening.
Speaker 5 (18:26):
It was really cold, and in those days, we couldn't
afford anything. We couldn't afford to employ anybody really to
do beating this stuff. So we did it ourselves. And
usually it wasn't so bad. It was kind of fun.
I had no broken down golf cart. Yeah, but on
the really cold days I'd have to climb over the
fence and with my little hatchet and break break the
(18:49):
ice on the waters. So I'm happy we've done all
every every horse on the farm and creators. Last before
we go in the house and I'm climbing over the fence,
I'm halfway over the fence. Now my whole my glasses
are all frozen over with ice, just icicles coming down
my hood on my little playman. And I'm halfway over
(19:11):
the fence. And I heard this voice coming from the
golf cart. I hope he's okay, I said what he says,
I hope it's okay. I said, I'm freezing to death. Yeah,
And look at him, he looks great. Yeah, he's just
waiting for me to get over there and give him
his food. Yeah, And you're more worried about that horse. Yeah,
(19:34):
And without missing a beat, she goes, well, I said,
sometimes I think you like that horse more than you're
like me. Yeah, the competition is much I know that.
Don't say anything. I'll say it myself first. And then
so I'm halfway over the fence and she goes. She goes,
I said, I think you like that ruse more than
you like me, And she goes, well, he's bigger, he's stronger,
(20:01):
he's better looking, he's made more money.
Speaker 6 (20:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (20:05):
I said, okay, fine, let me just get back.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
That's ben.
Speaker 5 (20:09):
Get my hatchet over there, and when I get down
with the thing, I'll just whack myself over there.
Speaker 6 (20:15):
You don't know how many.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
People I've told that the story too, because that's that's
a beauty.
Speaker 5 (20:19):
That is a beauty.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
She said, well, let's see, and she went down the list. Oh,
she said, he's got more hair.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Than you do.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
That was another one I.
Speaker 5 (20:28):
Remember better than I'm trying to leave that part out,
trying to leave one little piece, one little piece. But no, no,
when it comes to humiliating me, it's like, oh that
you know they think basketball is the big sport here
in Kentucky. It's not. It's humiliating me. That's a big sport.
You're gonna watch the game this afternoon tonight, Yeah, ton
(20:52):
at nine o'clock. It is.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Yeah, let me tell you what.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
GeV controls everything.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
The whole thing about the game is you got to
watch the first part. They've had polls. Twenty seven percent
going to the game said they're gonna boo yeah, fifty
percent said the and yeah, I'm going to give them
a little clap and the rest of it. They're just
going to sit there with their arms full, you know,
(21:19):
So you gotta watch to.
Speaker 5 (21:20):
See how they Yeah, we can record it.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Yeah, with Cali Perry that it's funny. Yeah, that's all
the time.
Speaker 5 (21:28):
You know, he couldn't do anything wrong for all those years,
and now he can't do anything right. That's kind of well.
Speaker 6 (21:34):
I think I'm correct.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
I think when Patino left, he didn't say anything. I mean,
he didn't say anything but the fans, but Calip Perry.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
To the pros.
Speaker 5 (21:46):
Yeah, he went up to Boston and ruined the Celtics.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Yeah, thanks Rick, But but they said Cali Perry said
a few things.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
Not we ended up with one. We ended up with
Patino's best horse he ever had. What's that ap Valentine.
We ended up with aprin Valentine and Rick Pettino has
no Rick Patino had some great he has some great stories.
He got all his friends to chip in and we're
all going to own this horse. So they got him,
and all of a sudden, he's on the Derby trail
(22:16):
and he's winning all this money, he's making all this money,
and then they sold him for an outrageous amount of money.
I forget how many millions of dollars. Yeah, so all
everybody the only horse they ever owned, and Patino's bells
all made money and they all cashed in. Everybody cashed him,
but Patino, and he decided, well, I'm going to reinvest
my portion of it and get more horses, and he did.
I don't think he ever had another. I think he
(22:39):
I think he was I think he was hoping they
could win a you know when the when the seventh race,
it's Suffolk in February thirty five hundred dollars non winners of.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
A race two years honey, that's funny.
Speaker 7 (22:51):

Speaker 5 (22:52):
So but we had ap Valentine. He's a beautiful horse.
Beautiful was he ap And do you remember when he

that that?
Speaker 2 (23:03):
Well, anyway, people that even aren't interested in basketball are
going to watch and.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
See what kind of reception drama.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Yes it is.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
I'm I think he's going to get food. But you know,
Cali peris I you know, I know a friend of
mine's basketball coach was a professional basketball coach, assistant coach,
and he worked for both Calipari and Betina really and
he told me that there's no comparison between the two
of them. He goes, Caliperi is one of the nicest
(23:34):
guys I've ever met in my entire life. I won't
say anything about the other one.
Speaker 6 (23:41):
I have fun.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Well, anyway, well.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
That's our little basketball coverage for today.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
Is that Okay, they got a better coach now, so
they did.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
He did him a favor.
Speaker 5 (23:55):
They Mark is a fabulous coach. Great, I thought we
would still be all doing whatever they do. To think
about Calipery. That was always annoying to me is he
yelled at him for everything. He was always yelling at somebody.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
I wanted him to turn around one day and just
yell at himself, but he never did that. And just
yelling at these kids, every you know, do this, do that?
How are you going to play basketball? Get somebody yelling
in your ear all the time?
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Yeah, well, everybody just loves Mark. And did you see
the video clip? Their little boy about three or four.
Speaker 5 (24:30):
Years or maybe four in a orange.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Basketball uniform, real cute little guy three feet tall, went
over to the Kentucky bench and wanted to introduce himself
to one of the players. And the guy bent over
and shot his hand and they turned around and mom
and dad got pictures. I mean, it was really cute,
that kind of stuff.
Speaker 5 (24:55):
Yeah, attention to the fans, you know, it makes a
big difference.
Speaker 6 (24:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:00):
So yeah, what have you.
Speaker 6 (25:02):
Got for us today?
Speaker 5 (25:04):
Well, I was just looking at a couple of these
nice races that I'm hoping to get over there to
the you know chapel.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:11):
Uh, but there's some Athuta has a nice program.
Speaker 7 (25:17):
Stay.
Speaker 5 (25:17):
How's the weather up there? I gotta find out how
the way it.
Speaker 6 (25:20):
Was raining yesterday?
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Philadelphia was turning and it's all of itself about that
plane and they so you could see the rain.
Speaker 5 (25:29):
Get some nice racing today everywhere fair grounds.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
I don't have the weathers for some reason.
Speaker 5 (25:38):
You know, it's not a stage.
Speaker 6 (25:40):
Huh it's not graded.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
Oh no, but I've got an other graded non graded
state you have, yeah, uh huh, they got There's the
four go at turf Way. The Ruth was at Aquadub,
the Toboggan at Aquadub February first February, the first fund
and Golf Stream.
Speaker 6 (26:03):
You ever been to Gulf Stream?
Speaker 7 (26:05):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Yeah, yeah, me too.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
I drove by it.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
I spent a winter down there.
Speaker 6 (26:09):
Is that is that work?
Speaker 2 (26:11):
I drove by it? Is that? Okay?
Speaker 6 (26:14):
Traffic was so anyway, it's.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
Terrible down there. I mean I liked I liked that track.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
I spent a winter down there. You would that have
been in nineteen fifty seven, nineteen fifty eight, Well, this
is right, most of the beach. You're not twenty you know,
fifteen minute drive to get to the beach.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
We had Betsy down there for a treatment and we
thought we'd go look at it, and we would have
had to park two or three miles.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
Away in Hollandale.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Yeah, I mean I never saw so many people.
Speaker 5 (26:50):
Well now it's mostly a shopping mall of bowling alley.
So yeah, did you have a great bar?
Speaker 2 (26:55):
Is that right?
Speaker 5 (26:56):
I have one hundred beers on tap.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
Oh, Betsy would have loved it.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
You know.
Speaker 5 (26:59):
By the third race, I had tampled all the no
no I have. It's a bar in the shape of
a racetrack. It's got the oval.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Where go Stream.
Speaker 5 (27:08):
Yeah, somebody out of.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
Do one the shape of a school bus. You remember
one hundred bottles of beer on the wall.
Speaker 6 (27:15):
Hundred bottles of beer.
Speaker 5 (27:16):
We'll get the people with funny side to do that.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
Oh yeah, there you go. Don't you remember singing that
anytime you went to school bus?
Speaker 3 (27:23):
I remember one one weekend and at Go Stream Park.
I was it was about a week before pay day
and I was dead broke.
Speaker 5 (27:34):
That's going to be the name is out about it.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
I think I had ten dollars my name, you know,
to last meeting, to do that long to eat on
and everything else.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
So I had cut through the going home and I
had walked through the track through the under the grand
stand there and I looked in them trash can. There
was an old racing for him in there, and I
pulled it out and the program. Yeah, And I looked
at that ten dollars and I said, hell, it's not
(28:04):
going to last me a week anyway. So I got
six dollars across on something and I got back thirty
dollars and something. Hell, I went out and got a steak.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
That's the sport.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Those were hard times.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
Boy, Oh that's fine. Last stay.
Speaker 5 (28:21):
Yeah, we had a guy who's a guy who worked
at the Boston Globe. He used to go to the
track and he was just a stupor. He just walked around,
picked up tickets, Yeah, went in the garbage and went everywhere,
just went everywhere. And he told me that one year
he made seven thousand dollars. Stupid, yeah, stupid, he made
seven grand. That was on seventh grand. Was seventh grand.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
He's spending it all on the chiropractor straightening up.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
Oh my goodness, do you like it?
Speaker 3 (28:51):
Well, well, here we go.
Speaker 5 (28:53):
I'm looking at at at golf strand. Okay, and a
horse in the seventh race is my loser. There's been
away since November, and Carlos David.
Speaker 8 (29:13):
Rides him.
Speaker 5 (29:13):
He's twenty to one on the morning line. I mean
Carlos David trains him. Dayden van Dyke is riding them,
and I think he could sneak in there and get
part of that for the triple or the super fact.
He's twenty to one. His name is Louulu and he's
been running against much better competition. I don't know why
(29:34):
they make him twenty to one. That's not going to
be right, but anyway, I hope to get a good
price on him. He's only been ridden by Dayden van
Dyke twice and Dave and Van Dyke one with him,
and in fact he won the same condition back in November.
He's ridden him twice and won on them twice. And
(29:54):
this horse has been running against much better horses. He
ran into the affirmed stakes up it had gone stream
and he ran in a three hundred thousand dollars race
the last time out of November. And this guy can
get him ready. If he can get him ready, he
shows a consistent, consistent workouts and he could be a
big threat and he'll close. So if you want to
(30:16):
play him third and fourth, it'll it'll really zip up
the old prices. So that's a race number seven at
Gaullstream Park going a mile eleven number.
Speaker 6 (30:26):
Six seven six.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
That's to remember, ursall, are you going to do a
commercial because when you come back I want to ask
Mike Michael about something. Are you want to do this?
Speaker 6 (30:39):
And what's going to ask him?
Speaker 3 (30:42):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (30:43):
Did you see his book about Elizabeth Arden. It's one
of those things they have at Keenland.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
Those are so great, you know, you know, she's doing
such a great job over there, getting more people involved in.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
She's great.
Speaker 5 (30:59):
And it's a third bred club. It's starting to have
lectures over there now too.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Oh good, yeah, yeah, But do you remember Elizabeth Art?
Speaker 5 (31:07):
No, she was, she was even she was before I
was interested in racing. But I have to say this.
I did read her book or a book, a biography.
Oh she did him came out about thirty five years ago,
three years ago. I did. I did read that. But
I'm very interested in I'm very interested in going.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
There was a good clown on Liselie Comes. She was
Oh god, yeah, she had fun. He was an advisor,
number one advisor.
Speaker 6 (31:35):
Oh here's the question. There's a picture over here with
a jockey.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
Anybody know who he is?
Speaker 5 (31:41):
I don't know, but he must be lucky bride horses.
Speaker 6 (31:44):
For her, I know.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Let she let him write once fire everybody? Do you
recognize him?
Speaker 3 (31:51):
A well?
Speaker 5 (31:53):
One of my favorite things in her book. The one
thing I do remember from that book. I don't remember
much about it. But except that I reddits and but
one of the things I really liked, said she. She
was totally convinced that the reason her verses did so
well was because she treated them with her cosmetics. Yeah, yes,
you know, she rubbed the creams in and.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
Drove the craner, had a special section of heaven for
guys who trained far. And people's got so they wouldn't
go to work for her. Coaches were getting too crowded.
Oh my god.
Speaker 5 (32:28):
Well, you know she was a very successful woman at
a time when that was a very difficult thing to be.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
I want to read about it, because we'll go When
is it Wednesdays nineteenth?
Speaker 3 (32:44):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (32:44):
Yeah, good, mid mid February. Yeah, there'll be thirty.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (32:48):
They just call up and they got books there and everything,
and she'll sign the books.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
Yeah. I just get confused. Missus pross Cower and Susan
Oh yeah, Susan Proskauer had buck Pond Farm and they
were Jewish.
Speaker 6 (33:06):
She wasn't married at the time.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
They skied out of the war and came here and
then she had a big cosmetic thing, didn't she. She
I don't remember what the name of it was, this
big deal.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
She sold it out though when we met her.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
Uh yeah, so that's I have to keep those.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
I never could forget. We got Jackie and I just
got married, and we had been invited to dinner over
to farm out at Buck Pond, and we walked in
and Susan came over and just gave me this great,
big hug. You know. Jackie looked and looked and turned
to doctor Posco and says, you want to mess around.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
And obviously didn't.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
That's the first I'll tell you what I learned from them.
Speaker 6 (33:56):
Art belongs in the house museum.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
They had all kinds of art can afford it?
Speaker 2 (34:04):
You know those things that hang down and turn.
Speaker 5 (34:07):
What are they? That's right?
Speaker 6 (34:09):
What's what's the name of that guy? Those very famous.
Speaker 5 (34:13):
Anyway, Alexander Caller Calder.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
Those things were hanging in different places in that house.
That was pretty cool.
Speaker 5 (34:23):
We have art all over our house. We have silver
trom pictures, silver Trump paintings, silver Trump photographs.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
I'm gonna get fired if I don't do Cleburn who
All right, I'm gonna go, all right, I gotta.

Speaker 6 (34:49):

Thoroughbred Club on Fridays is outstanding. Into the hand. They
have a new soup that they created it so it's
a beef mushroom soup. Oh, unbelievable. I'm not even a
big soup pan. But when they have those on the menu, that's.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Let me ask you. Did they have a drive through windows?
Speaker 6 (35:17):
No?
Speaker 2 (35:19):
So much of that.
Speaker 5 (35:20):
Okay, no, no, no drive through a window until the spring. Okay,
so Keene went open?
Speaker 6 (35:26):

to get your orders in now, you know, early, so
they can handle it all because I know spring is
bloom time at quilling, you know, and you need to
do that. So I just think that's a good idea.
I just wanted to look, you know, what's you know,
(44:14):
what's going on. And of course they have the best
leather products on the earth. I mean the leather is
all English bridle leather. That means it's the right thickness

and M and D Hill Parker. What I don't hear
in a minute. I don't know why I don't have
(47:57):
the the Withers. I've got the roofless steaks of Aquado
February first, Hum, Hey, here's.
Speaker 2 (48:07):
Something you may like. What Quillens has got Bob's Customs
saddles Western five ninety nine bucks.
Speaker 6 (48:21):
You take up riding again. You ride, I think I'll
pass claffeye.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
Okay, okay, now what is it you can't from?
Speaker 3 (48:31):
You ride all the time when I was a kid,
but then it was in an autobile. Accent dislocated my hip,
and I haven't been able to ride since.
Speaker 5 (48:40):
I know.
Speaker 2 (48:40):
I'll tell you. We ran into Susie shirt yes day
before yesterday. I can't.
Speaker 3 (48:46):
That's a joke store.
Speaker 2 (48:47):
And Susie used to be outrighter out here. I loved her.
She's been out.
Speaker 3 (48:52):
Here still helps for the clocking.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
And now I said, are you riding?
Speaker 6 (48:57):
Are you clocking?
Speaker 2 (48:58):
And she said clocking? And she went over to a
friend's place who had a very quiet, nice pony kind
of horse.
Speaker 6 (49:08):
And first thing that happened.
Speaker 2 (49:10):
She couldn't get up. She could not get up into
the saddle, so Lisa helped her up. They rode and
it was very nice, and all that good stuff came back.
She couldn't get off, and she said. Somebody told her,
when you've got more doctors than you do friends, you're
(49:34):
too old.
Speaker 3 (49:34):
Ride anyway, more doctors than they have friends. They were
running the roofless Steaks in New York and talked to
that run the toboggan today, and then according to Jacket,
there running the Witherws me. She oh, here it is,
here's the widows.
Speaker 6 (49:55):
I take it all back, but it's not grated anymore.
Speaker 3 (49:59):
No. One hundred and fifty down out a part going
a mile, and at eighth used to be just used
to be just a mile. I don't I think they
called it. They call it the Withers Mile at one time.
Speaker 2 (50:11):
Oh is that right?
Speaker 3 (50:12):
Yeah? Well I'm sorry. Let me give you got a
field of seven goes off today at three forty six,
and uh global Steve is the number one. He said,
this has got me in New York where it is
about Vichero, who I think is the leading shiary in
New York. Number two surch Side Moon by madib the Moon,
(50:35):
who is the Coase gone. They've got a statue of
him over at the Spencer Farm. Corpus is number three
by Classic Vina Russo who he's going to Ringer's Cup
of Classic can stands doing very well. It's stirn by
the way he stands over at Spencer Farm. Uncle Jim
(50:57):
by the City of Lights is number four. Number five
is more quality of a Motown who is having a
terrific year over at Ashford stun and Docs Horses. Doctor
Walridge horse his yearling is by Motown. He just had
(51:18):
a nice steak swinner too good, had good graded stakes winner.
Captain Cook a practical joke.
Speaker 6 (51:28):
Captain who Coe Okay, Captain.
Speaker 3 (51:33):
Cook, Captain Cook a practical joke, got a power ow wow.
Well you had to ask now seven Omaha Omaha who
you would think it would be about Omaha, But it
is not funny Omaha based. But it's my horse named Audible,
(51:56):
who is a pretty good kind of a stead horse.
As a matter of fact. That's the that's the Withers.
Then they're running the sprint the Toboggan at Aquadog. Another
horse that I really like stands over a spencer Farm
and a maximum mischief is the sign number one maximum Meridius.
(52:20):
Number two is by ind the Mischief, so incidentally he
is maximum mischief.
Speaker 7 (52:26):
Of course.
Speaker 3 (52:27):
In the Mischief also stands over at Spencery Farm Castle
Chaos by Palace Malice at number three. Number fourst coastal
mission by a great notion. I don't know where he stands.
And let's see how many more of them got I
don't pick a page up here. Number five is a
(52:51):
running son of a gun a gun runner. Number six
is Neilson Avenue By in the Mischief, good ump and
good offing. And number seven on the oir side has
gun it but tap it.
Speaker 7 (53:05):
That was.
Speaker 3 (53:05):
So that's the weathers and now we got the the bargain.
Now we got the ruthless there also. Yeah, well it's
spend Trift. Yeah yeah, Wait, I get a little bit
closer because maybe the James is coming in, you know
how he dashes in into I.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
Think he's talking about Spendrift.
Speaker 3 (53:29):
Oh, Spendrift, yeah.
Speaker 6 (53:32):
And hill.
Speaker 3 (53:35):
Oh okay, all right, thank you. January twenty five, at Oakland,
the one hundred and fifty thousand dollars fifth season Steaks
was won. By the Wine Steward, the colt from the
first Cup of Veno Russell, winner at two of the
Bashford Manor Stakes at Turfy Downs. The Wine Steward also
won the Funny Side Stakes at Saratoga and finished second,
(53:56):
and the Great one Claven Breeds for Turity at Keenan.
You're Grade three Elections in Station also at Keenan, and
the Grade three Peter Pan in New York. Got beat
less than a length and all three of those races.
He's earned five hundred and forty eight two hundred and
sixty dollars with but two cops to race a full season.
Vino Russo is nineteen that have won are placed in state.
(54:16):
Considered to be the most accomplished son of the Great
Curlin Vinor Usso won the Grade one Breeders Cup Classic,
won an Eclipse Award, earned four million, eight hundred and
three thousand dollars. Stands at Spencery Farm the Breeders Farm
When's a Halt so happens to be the home of
Jackie's Warrior. Earned of an Eclipse Awarders Champion Male Sprinter,
and a Grade one winner at two, three and four.
(54:39):
All total, he won eleven stakes all graded five Grade one,
was voted Champion Male Sprinters at three year od and
by the time they hung his tack up, he had
earned nearly three million dollars. He is siged by McLean's Music,
who said for he has climbed to forty thousand largely
because of the heroics of Jackie's Warrior, and he's out
(55:00):
of the tough Racemary Unicorn Girl one of nineteen States
and four hundred and eighty three thousand, five hundred and
eight dollars and a granddaughter of APND and a multiple
States producer. For more on Vino Russell and Jackie's Royer
called Daz Bryan Barker Daniel eight five nine two nine
fours years her thirty and the win website is spensipfarm
(55:22):
dot com.
Speaker 2 (55:23):
Okay, I'll talk a little bit about Hill Parker, our
good buddy friend, Hill Parker, Horse Farm and the land Specialists.
He's a full time realtor. He's a principal broker. He's
a member of the Association of Realtors everywhere Kentucky, Lexington,
(55:46):
National Associations and all that stuff.
Speaker 6 (55:50):
He's accredited. He knows what he's doing. He knows we've
had it before.
Speaker 2 (55:56):
I mean, he knows ownings and land rags and state
and local blah blah blah. And you need to know
that before you sign anything or you wind up worrying.
So anyway, the other part of Hill makes him so valuable.
He is a licensed hours trainer in eleven states. He's
(56:17):
got years of experience an event, thoroughbreds, jumpers, steeple chasing,
blue and on and on. And you know he works
for the Parents Animal Welfare Society.
Speaker 6 (56:31):
I didn't realize that that's the shelter in.
Speaker 2 (56:34):
Burbick County for him. Anyway, what's unique. You cannot fake
knowing how to take care of a horse or working
on a horse farm.
Speaker 6 (56:46):
Or doing all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (56:47):
You can't make that up. You either do it and
learn it or.
Speaker 6 (56:53):
It's no good. You can't just read about it.
Speaker 2 (56:55):
I mean, that's something where experience is everything. That's what
he's got. He's got a place back here behind the
training center where he trains throwbreads now. But the deal is,
you want to buy a horse farm, you just don't
walk over and say, oh, yeah, that's a nice I'll
take it.
Speaker 6 (57:14):
You have to know what you're gonna do.
Speaker 2 (57:17):
And where the barns go, and oh my god, what
are you gonna.
Speaker 5 (57:21):
Use it for?
Speaker 6 (57:22):
Are you gonna breed?
Speaker 2 (57:23):
Are you gonna board? Are you going to train? Are
you gonna ride? And there's all kind of answers for
these questions that make a huge difference.
Speaker 6 (57:36):
So if you want an arena, if you.
Speaker 2 (57:39):
Want barns, you gotta have big barns of like, if
you're gonna breed, you need plenty of room for stalls.
For mayors, they're fooling. You need to know where to
put things. If you're gonna anyway, Hill Parker knows it all.
Don't mess up and go on and just buy a
(57:59):
piece of land without figuring out what you're doing.
Speaker 3 (58:02):
Yeah, well, let me give you Hill's website. It's Lexhorsefarms
dot com l Exhorsefarms dot com and it's sale numbers
eight five, nine, six y eight, eighty thirty nine. And
coach he and his lovely grind Reagan, they work together,
(58:23):
and you know, they're both horse farm and land specialists.
And it's there's two of the nicest people you they
would want to meet. I would recommend them highly. They
were great, great with us.
Speaker 2 (58:36):
Oh my gosh, such energy. Yeah, Yeah, he doesn't slow down.
Speaker 3 (58:41):
It's amazing he gets the work done.
Speaker 2 (58:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (58:44):
Once again it's lexhorse Farms dot Com. And that's Hill
and Reagan, Parker and Hill. The sale numbers eighty five nine.
Number he lives in Lexton, six year OI eighty thirty nine.
Speaker 4 (58:59):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and ursul ellis, Oh.
Speaker 3 (59:05):
Well, here comes to my man. I knew he was
gonna be here because we got Derby preps today. All right,
what do you want me to do? Do my spendthrift
first and then we'll get get James on. James Cullieves
is going to give us.
Speaker 2 (59:24):
Didn't he do Spencer?
Speaker 3 (59:27):
It's air dream right, I just dispend it. Okay, excuse me?
Speaker 2 (59:33):
Well, Grade one winner, go ahead, I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (59:36):
Grade one winner and proven sar Grade one Sark. Gervan
is standing his third year in Kentucky, after he covered
one hundred and eighty one and one hundred and thirty
marriage his last two seasons has stood. The score by
Diamonds Mound in the recent Sunshine Sprints Takes a gold
Stream serves as a reminder that Gervan's already and established
sire Diamonds Mound for instance, there's one four stakes too
(59:58):
great and earned over seven hundred and twenty three thousand. Then,
of course there is Phaser win of four graded stations,
including a Grade one and over seven six hundred and
seventy two thousand. Doroth Vader went of the Grade two
Davona Jao States of Gulf Stream plus two other stakes.
Second in the classic Grade one Acorn Burnings over five
(01:00:19):
hundred and fifty three thousand, close the game Sugar win
of a pair of stakes at Churchill, another at Saratoga,
second in the Grade A Grade one of del Mar
earning over five hundred and ninety thousand, And there's a
Gulf Stream in stakes winner and graded placer atomically graded
States winner Honey de Jon Graded States win a seven
(01:00:39):
O Chiefs stunner, winner of the tempted States in New York.
She goes today incidentally in the Grade three Forward Gal
Stakes and the Gulf Stream Mama Park States win of
Bell's Blue Ball. Mama Park States win there swerving Mama
Park States win the Power Numbers leave his Prints, win
of the Stuary of Belmont stakes, winn of Cancer Humor
plus seven another the place in stakes. I just can't
(01:01:02):
wait for those Kentucky birds to hit the tracks. Gervin
he won great one sticks, earned over one point six
million dollars and he has a world of class and
he's passing it on at for more on the stands
just called Santa nicyll at eight five nine h seventy
three seventy two seventy and the website is andrews Stood
dot com. My buddy James Scully is here now he's
(01:01:25):
gonna tell you something about let's Stock Research Information Services.
Speaker 8 (01:01:29):
Hey, thanks, good morning our sould Jackie Ressie. Yeah, we
got a big weekend of horse racing, got three Kentucky
Derby preps, steaks all around the country. And if you're
going to be playing the horses today, Britainet dot com books,
Stock Research Information Services is your source of racing information.
(01:01:50):
We have got great pass performances, We've got handicapping reports, analysays,
cocker reports and more. We got all the tracks, we've
got data files, pedigree information and much more. Go to
Bristinet dot com. It's the handicapper's edge. And we do
(01:02:11):
have three Road to the Kentucky Derby Challenge Series qualifiers today.
They all are forty two point races twenty to the winner,
and one of them, the Robert B. Lewis at sant
Anita has champion two year old citizen bulls, so you
got a real proven commodity there, at least you know,
(01:02:32):
as a juvenile. The Weathers in the Holy Bull at Goldstream,
and the Lewis also has a pair of Glass winner
maiden winners, so they're looking to step up. And I
think the Group and the Withers and the Holy Bull
in the same position. There's a lot of promising horses
in those races, but this is like a real key
race to see who can take the next step. I'll
(01:02:55):
start with the Weathers at Aqueduct. I think it's a
little bit of a you know, it's not graded. You
gotta go ship to New York and run in you know,
February first, So it's typically not going to get the
strength of the fields at Goldstream in Santa Anita for
their big three year old races, but you do have
some nice last out maiden winners in there. And I
(01:03:17):
think the horse to beat is Mo Quality. Man, he's
not even the favorite. He's the three to one co
choice number five. Mo Quality. He's a cult that broke
his making going six and a half furlongs at Churchill
two starts back. I thought he was real impressive, showed
high speed from the start after missing the break in
his debut and running a good second to Touchy, who's
a nice horse, or Wesley Ward. And the thing about
(01:03:39):
mo Quality is he' buy Motown whose son of Uncle Moe.
And you know it was a two turn horse, but
mo Quality is out of a real Staminla's female family.
He looks like a horse to me and it will
stretch out. When he did go two turns the last
time and at stakes debut with the Smarty Jones, he
was just too far back and really was a little
bit rained. Green didn't change the leads till laden was
(01:04:02):
a non threatening second to coal Battle. But that col
Battle right now is really good, especially a mile mile.
In the sixteenth races, he won the Springboard mile over
speaking who won the Grade three Southwest last weekend at Oakland,
and then he won the Smarty Jones. So Christopher Davis
was upset with the ride. He thought that jockey held
(01:04:22):
the horse really too hard. The horse wanted to go
and he's going to show speed mo Quality. I think
he's going to like the mile on eighth distance. I
like his chances. His main rivals include Captain Cook and
Omaha Omaha. And the next race I'll talk about as
a Holy Bull is a gold Stream Grade three features
(01:04:44):
the return of Ferocious, who was multiple Grade one placed
as a juvenile, is trying to rebound from a troubled
fifth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile where he was just
way too far back. And he adds blinkers for Gestavo
Delgado who won the derb Be with Mage a couple
of years ago. But to me, he's still going to
be off the pace. He's like a stalker off the
(01:05:06):
pace type Ferocious. He might be a little bit closer,
but there's some speed in here with guns Loaded, who's
won two in a row, including the Mucho Macho Man.
There's some other contenders in here as well, but I
like number three tap In Street. This is a Brad
Cox cold million dollar son of Into Mischief, and I
(01:05:28):
really liked his career debut. I think Brad Cox had
a bunch of talented two year old males and females
last year. His females came along faster, his males are
just starting a really flaster ability. He had a colt
named Rapture who broke his maide by six and a
half last week. And I think tap and Street was awesome.
In his main win at Goldstream, it was a real
(01:05:50):
hard he really had to make two moves that you know,
he was really under a ride on the far turn.
But once he got in the stretch, like the light
bulb went on, and I think that's a race he's
gonna move forward upon big time. I like his chances
with Louis Sayez and I think we'll get, you know,
at least three to one. He's not gonna be the
(01:06:11):
favorite of the second favorite. That's gonna be ferocious and
guns loaded. And then finally the Bob Lewis only got five,
but three of them are trained by Bob Baffort and
all of them are serious Kentucky Derby prospects right now,
Citizen Bull, It's gonna make his first start since concluding
(01:06:31):
last year with wins Grade one wins and the American
Pharaoh and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. He let him wire
to wire in both races on moderate paces. He's just
gonna face more pace and speed this year.
Speaker 5 (01:06:46):
And Baffert talked.
Speaker 8 (01:06:48):
About how he doesn't have to win, and he said
he's sort of a heavy horse and needs, you know,
they need to get him going and get him running
because he's gonna need some racing to really find his
best form. By Derby Day, he could still win. But
I think I like his uh his two stable mates
one s Manic at Row, but I like the other one, Rodriguez.
He comes off of a he ran second first time
(01:07:11):
out sprinting the Romanesque. It was who's a was looked
great that day and then he really improved going two
turns last time in a maiden win. He's by authentic,
he's number three. So uh, I got a couple of
three to one shots and Rodriguez, who will probably be
the second favorite. And then I got one other I make,
(01:07:34):
I make one other price or horse a little bit.
I like today and race six at Santa Anita. I
like this late pick five sequence there and the race
six is the Mega Hurts and I like number six
Mahina five to one for Paddy Gallagher. So that's another
pick on the day.
Speaker 3 (01:07:51):
Big Day.
Speaker 8 (01:07:52):
Yeah, Big Day got a lot of stakes that Like
you said that Ford Gal is a pretty competitive race.
You know gold Stream run their first two Oaks preps
at one turn distances, so you can really get some
talented sprinters in there. This forward gals at seven furlongs
in the Devota Dale, which will be on the FDA
(01:08:13):
Fountain Youth Day is at a mile one turn mile,
and then only have the Florida Oaks. But you know
some of these phillies in the Ford Gal are going
to be looking to stretch out moving forward. I like
Eqleoton in there for Brad Cox. I think Brad Cox
is gonna have a good day. He's got a course
called gun Metal and the Swale who I think is
(01:08:35):
the one to beat. And uh, I like this Ecloton
Equoton because I think she's better sprinting and then at
two turns. Yeah. Even though yes, even though you look
at her pedigree and you think, hey me, she might
be an Oaks type, I think she Her two best
races were first two last time when she tried two turns,
(01:08:56):
she was like a non threadning third and the Golden Rod,
and I think she's gonna get the setup. That one
thing about that race, it is absolutely packed with speed.
You talked about that stunner before when you were talking
about all the terrific airgy horses out there. But the
other horse is just gonna be blazing in there, is
(01:09:17):
that Rojo horse. Ruh, I mean that Philly's gonna be favored, Yeah,
Rojo Rita. This is a volatile, volatile Philly for Saffy
Joseph that comes off a ten length wind and was
brilliant that day, and she's got speed, and about five
other ones in there as speed. So I give that
Klatan a chance to just off them and run a
(01:09:38):
big race.
Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
Well, they're gonna eliminate some derby prospects today.
Speaker 8 (01:09:43):
Yeah, yeah, I mean you gotta go mile and eighth
and that Weathers and my on the sixteenth in the
Holy Bull and and the you know in the Lewis.
Sometimes these horses can get this rat of ground just
on class alone and good in a mile and eighth.
This spring in a mile and a quarter for certain
is a different ballgame. So you know, it does give
(01:10:06):
you a gauge, and it's gonna be important for a
horse like guns Loaded, who just won the Mucco Macho
Man at one turn and he's by gun Runner out
of a Bernie Deni Mayor and looks like he's bred
to run all day, but boy he did. He got
tired last time. You know, it makes you wonder because
sometimes it's more just about the horse than the breeding.
(01:10:27):
I mean, there's a there's a bunch of gun runners
out there, but you know he's he's gonna throw sprinters too,
and into mischief.
Speaker 5 (01:10:33):
He's gonna throw sprinters.
Speaker 8 (01:10:35):
They're gonna produce a bunch of Derby contenders, but they're
not all Derby contenders.
Speaker 3 (01:10:40):
No matter fact you're tapping two too.
Speaker 8 (01:10:44):
Yeah, exactly. I mean you look at not this time
last year he had Cogburn, who like broke a world
record for five furlongs on the turf, and then he
has next who's like a mile and a half specialists.
You know, so you're saying, you're like, and of course
that sire he's just like, uh, you know, in the
mischief and uh gun runner, and and there's several others
(01:11:09):
that they can just throw all types.
Speaker 5 (01:11:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:11:13):
If he if in the midst of tops of side
of this this year, you know time ruler for toping
the side of the seven times.
Speaker 8 (01:11:23):
Yeah, yeah, really remarkable. You know, I was at the
eight Breeders Cup at Santa Nino they were running and
on that pro ride, that's anthetic surface. But uh you know,
we stuck around for the race after the Classic, which
was like Ravens pass Henry's Navigator. If we had synthetic tracks,
these like European turf horses would be shipping in and
(01:11:45):
winning them all the time. But uh uh, you know,
it's just sort of ridiculous. They would never like even
hit the board on dirt and they're running one two
in the Classic. But the race right after the Classic
was the Damascus and and Mischief was in there and
we were like there was nobody left, so we were
right there on the rail. I saw him walk right
by and he didn't win. He he you know, he
(01:12:07):
did win. He won that day and then uh uh
it didn't run much more after that. So uh yeah,
I got to see him in person when he was running,
and you know what hits. He's a brother to Beholder
and some other good ones, so uh yeah, he's been
a terrific sire. And and the thing with Boulder Ruler
(01:12:28):
was as great a sire as he was. The mile
on a quarter of the Classic distances were a little
bit of a bugaboo, and like so when Secretariat came along.
There were people openly saying that hey, a son of
a Secretary bould Rower can't get him mile on a quarter.
But you know, he proved him all wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:12:47):
I got to see him run one time. That was
a Florida Derby.
Speaker 7 (01:12:54):
He didn't.
Speaker 6 (01:12:57):
When Florida Derby.
Speaker 8 (01:12:59):
It's gonna be like the last very end of March.
It could be either like March thirtieth, March April first,
it's around there and then the Bluegrass in the wood
and the Sanenea Derby will be the following weekend. So
last year it was like March thirtieth and April seventh,
but I don't know what the exact dates are.
Speaker 3 (01:13:19):
This year, I was down there, General Duke, won't it.
Speaker 8 (01:13:27):
I mean, ye, okay man, Well, back then the Florida
Derby was in a month earlier. It was all those
horses were running the Florida Derby and then they'd go
run in the bluegrass or or wood or wherever.
Speaker 5 (01:13:40):
I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:13:41):
In the nineties they were like, you used to be
closer to the Derby too. What's that the bluegrass was
closer to the Derby?
Speaker 8 (01:13:47):
Yeah, yeah, definitely, But the Florida Derby be like March
fifth or something, or March tenth, and then there was
in time they run another prep and most sources did
into the like nineties. I mean that just changed. The
last couple that just changed, like like fifteenth maybe maybe
like Barbara prepped in the Florida Derby, but even then
it was six weeks out, which was a little bit
(01:14:09):
of a bugaboo in six and now it's five weeks out,
so it's a little bit closer.
Speaker 6 (01:14:15):
Interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:14:15):
Okay, cool, all right, my friends.
Speaker 8 (01:14:18):
All right, good to see you.
Speaker 7 (01:14:20):
See what's up?
Speaker 8 (01:14:25):
Oh man, I did I glanced at it that raise,
but uh it's yeah, Now I really don't man, you know,
I get like with the turf way well, like really
buckle down and like look at that in the afternoons
and stuff because it's so late and everything.
Speaker 3 (01:14:43):
Yees you.
Speaker 8 (01:14:44):
Uh that's like the like last track all handicap, all.
Speaker 3 (01:14:47):
On some money you go.
Speaker 6 (01:14:54):
Game.
Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 8 (01:14:56):
I know it's gonna be a good one. It's gonna
be late day today.
Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 5 (01:15:01):
All right, see all letter.
Speaker 3 (01:15:02):
Thank you, James, appreciate you. Well. If you're breeding the race,
take a look at the record. A run Happy at
Cleven Farm He's put a whole lot of people in
a winter circle, and he's a real bargainsire seventy five

list of major stakes winners. Among them or a New

placed in four Grade one steaks and earned over eight

(01:15:44):
won graded stakes placing Grade one Steaks and he's earned

much as that Happy Romance one group steaks in England.
Rotney has won six states to date and more than

Speaker 3 (01:17:19):
She probably gave up listening.
Speaker 2 (01:17:20):
I don't know. She's might be in there and riding
the bike and listening to the show. All Right, I
get to talk about Hope Well Insurance Agency. When we
moved to Bourbon County. We checked out churches and stores
and insurance companies and this was the one how everybody
(01:17:43):
that we knew said, no, you have to go to
Hope Well insurance Agency. So we're so heead to talk
with Tim McClain. We've been doing with them business with
him forever since then anyway, So we're really satisfied. And
what is really interesting to me and always has been,
(01:18:05):
is they're an independent insurance agency. They don't work for
a big mega company where you have to punch buttons.
I mean they say I answer.
Speaker 6 (01:18:16):
The phone, they say Hope Well, and then Ursul said
ted Air, and then all Hire, so you know, I mean,
that's the kind of service she gets. Wonderful.
Speaker 2 (01:18:26):
It's really smart doing it that way because what they
do they don't have to work for a mega mega mega.
They have a carefully selected group of financially sound, reputable companies,
so they shop around for you so they can offer
you the best coverage at the most competitive price. Wonderful.
(01:18:51):
That's that's brilliant. Folks at Hope Well therefore are prepared
to provide you with a no cost, no obligation review
comparison of your present insurance. So it's help Well company
in Paris. They've been there since nineteen fifty five, so
they have to be doing something right or they have
been a bit of our business.
Speaker 6 (01:19:12):
So full service agency.
Speaker 2 (01:19:14):
Give them a call. It's a local Paris number nine
eight seven two three four seven and that's nine eight
seven two three four seven better yet, Just run into
the office. It's at eight twenty Main Street in Paris.
It's on your right going in.
Speaker 6 (01:19:30):
Can't miss it.
Speaker 2 (01:19:31):
It's a house and it's on the right and I
got a drive you know, they got a little driveway.
Just pull in. They are really nice people and they'll
do a great job for you.

Last yaurday went to mister Lake by Motown by dollar
(01:24:37):
and I hear Motown, so he was I had to
wait say that was my last to give it to
me good morning.
Speaker 7 (01:24:45):
Told I told that to Rocky last week. I told
him that one was h Thist relatives was at one
of big grays, So I don't know if you rested
him and I told.
Speaker 3 (01:24:54):
Them they put that, uh put the earnings over over
a million dollars by the.
Speaker 7 (01:25:01):
Way, Yeah nice, that's really nice. So yeah, I've been
I've been happy with him. He's growing and I really
like how he's built. And you know, he's the most
one of the most sensible, you know, for me in
his age. He's really sensible. He he meets you halfway.
(01:25:22):
This morning, he met me at the gate. A lot
of times you don't meet me at the gate and
meet me halfway, and so I just I never locked
the gate behind me because they want to eat. But
then this time we kind of looked at the gate.
He walked through the gate, and he looked at me,
and he walked a little further back. So I just
typed the gate open started walking to the barn, and
then they figured it out and they came in and
came up to eat. So he's at least been sensible
(01:25:44):
and didn't run off this morning and make me mad,
make me run late. But I tell you, I couldn't
be happy with my little motown.
Speaker 3 (01:25:51):
That's good. Well, either you picked a right shirt. Orses.
What's going on down your way?
Speaker 7 (01:25:57):
We have a weird one coming and has it here yet?
But uh, the horse has had a history of nosebleeds
and I can't remember the one side or both sides,
but usually it's one side. And so it had a
endoscopy done and it has a fungus that's growing up
(01:26:18):
in the guttural pouch, which and us that's our use
station too. It goes from your ear down your throat.
You'll make sure hear itch when you got cold and things.
Then a horse there internal crowded artery, which of course
huge artery runs through that guttural pouch. And it's thought
that maybe one of the functions of the guttural pouch
(01:26:41):
is no one really knows why it's there in a
horse other than maybe that lighten their head. That one
of the things that does is is that cools the
blood that's going into the into the rain. That might
be shy, but uh, but occasionally they'll get a fungus
that grows up on that internal croated artery and the
(01:27:02):
roof of that tutal pouches. Usually that's where almost always is.
It can be other arteries, but that's almost always where
that is. And you think about that, because you got
a fungus that's growing on top of the internal croated
on the most important arteries in the head. Then it'll
kind of eat into that artery and they'll bleed, and
(01:27:23):
a lot of times they'll have some smaller bleeds, but
you know, eventually with that problem. You know, there's been
a few cases. The result no, no them, but that
is you. But what almost always happens is that artery
that fungus will eventually eat all the way into that
artery and then it ruptures and the horse bleeds bleaks
to death. And so you know, the way you deal
(01:27:43):
with that surgically, A couple of ways you can do it.
There's surgeons are able to play throttle balloons in the artery,
and that that removes the blood splivate artery. And what's
what's crazy about these things is if you go back
and looking with a scope either a day or two later,
that fungus will be almost totally dead. And so it's
(01:28:06):
not known if the fungus gets in and weakens the artery,
or maybe the artery gets weakened, and that just allows
the fung kind of place to get going. Because if
you culture those fungi, they're just normal mind fungi outul
they're not anything that's necessarily linked with disease. But if
you can kill the blood supply, it generally kills the artery,
(01:28:28):
it kills the fungus. So you put those balloons in there.
There are a few places that can do these coils,
and really that what they do is little. It's like
a little metal coil and it's got some like a
plastic polymer and there, and it will include artery or
Another surgery you can do that I've had bretty good
(01:28:50):
luck with is you just tie off what's called common
crowded tied off before all those arderies branch off. But
it's you know, it's a surgery it's got some applications. Uh,
they can still bleed to death because there's a circular
artery at the base of the brains and sometimes but
you can go all the way around that and still
come back down the other side. Those horses can bleed
(01:29:11):
to death. I've only had won ever do that. They
could potentially go blind because you may include other arteries
like toptic artery. But we've got him coming Monday, so
you know he'll stay alive. I've had to bleed out
on demand too, coming to me, but this one's been
going on quite a while, so I'm you know, he's
(01:29:32):
pretty lucky to have been alive.
Speaker 3 (01:29:36):
All right, are you there? I'm here, Okay, Okay, Well
that's that's an interesting.
Speaker 7 (01:29:48):
No, it'll be quite the surgery. We'll scope them scoping
first and you'll make sure where it's at because it
can be other arteries and and I can remember when
one horse I think maybe you had to do this,
but I'm fungus. You know, there's two sides to those gone.
Patches got left and the right, and it's divided. I've
had a horse at least one when I focus ate
(01:30:11):
all the way across the division between the mission Tisu
there went all the way across to the other side,
and these these things are tricky and there they are
sure enough emergencies. So hopefully we're all together good getting
here Monday and we'll be able to get exixed.
Speaker 3 (01:30:30):
Okay, well I don't envy you that, but anyway, when.
Speaker 7 (01:30:35):
You're coming in Tokentucky, I'm gonna I'm on clinics now.
I got one more week and so after after next weekend,
I'm hoping you get there pretty soon after that. We've
got I gotta uh beyond clinics. We got to work
a big rodeo next weekend, so we're all excited about that.
(01:30:57):
There's a p r C A rodeo here start off,
not very possible school, so we got riders go go
up there and work on Subuccing bulls and Subuccan horses.
That'll be a lot of fun, I think, and don't
have barrel racing too, so we're all excited. We got
a bunch of students time out to go with us
for that, and a lot of them also went to
(01:31:18):
Kentucky with us, so we've got a got a good
group going up there, and we're going to work for
the radio next week.
Speaker 3 (01:31:24):
Okay you riding?
Speaker 7 (01:31:28):
No, I haven't had a chance to ride a ball
twice in my life and I didn't do it, and
I still regret it.
Speaker 3 (01:31:34):
All right, all right, my friend, this is we'd talk
to you about this time next week.
Speaker 7 (01:31:40):
All right, thank you, see your Kentucky back.
Speaker 3 (01:31:44):
Well, they're only staying in Kentucky. By A Breeders Cup
winner and out of a Breeders' Cup winner is Shreff Spike.

best Fightstown. Munnings fee is now sixty five thousand. Let
me also point out that Perfect Cheryl, in addition to
being a Grade one winner and Grade one producer, is
also a daughter of Lady Cheryl, a Grade one winner
and multiple Grade one producer. So how could Cheryl's fight miss? Well,
it didn't. Cheryl Spike won the Grade one makers Mark
(01:32:28):
milet Keenan won three graded States was a closing second
beatn just three parts of a length in the Grade

talking about a lot of black type here, So to
keep it simple, Cheryl Spike is by a Grade one
(01:32:49):
winner out of a Grade one winner, and he won
Grade one stax. Now for a pleasant surprise, he's standing
his first season instead for five thousand dollars, live four

Speaker 4 (01:35:12):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and ursua Ellis's day.
Speaker 2 (01:35:21):
Well, we talked about this with Michael, but it is,
it's it's fun. This is going to be a really
good one of Stacy A. Corderie a professor of history
at Iowa State. She has written bioraphies of Alice Roosevelt
long Earth that of course is Teddy Roosevelt's daughter, and
(01:35:48):
Juliet Gordon law No. I don't know her anyway. She's
an award winning teacher, sought after speaker. She's been on
the History Channel, So that's kind of neat. She has
written a book about Elizabeth Arden. And of course the
part about Elizabeth Arden that we're interested in, it was
a big deal. She was a big deal horse for reader.
(01:36:12):
So her book is named Becoming Elizabeth Arden. This review
and all will be Wednesday, February nineteenth at six point
thirtieth Keenland Library. What's going on.
Speaker 6 (01:36:24):
Is Keenlan's really picked us up.
Speaker 2 (01:36:28):
This is their library has changed directors. And I mean
we're boo bopping right along. So it's twenty dollars a ticket,
and if you want a book, it's fifty per ticket.
You get a book. So doors open at six. It's
real interesting because it's about becoming Elizabeth Arden. And we
(01:36:53):
were talking about Elizabeth Arden, who was just a well
everybody talked about her because she fired everybody ever worked
for it. And she used to take her beauty products
and put them on her horse. You know, she made
the trainers use all that stuff. And she had main
(01:37:14):
chance farm owner and bris spent a lot of money successfully.
Her income came from beauty stuff, you know, creams and
makeup and all that kind of stuff. She was known
(01:37:36):
as Lady Lipstick. Anyways, treated her horses with beauty creams,
and she hired and fired people right and left. So
what did you say. The joke was at the time
there was a special place in heaven people that trained
for Elizabeth Arden, but it was crowded.
Speaker 3 (01:38:00):
Nobody wanted to go because it was too crowded.
Speaker 2 (01:38:03):
Too crowded. Yeah, that's kind of fun. So it'll be
a great I want to I want this book. This
will be a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (01:38:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:38:10):
So anyway, like I said, it's Wednesday, February nineteenth at
six thirty to eight thirty at the Kingland Library. That's
a real good series at the Kentland Library. Doing a
good job out there.
Speaker 3 (01:38:25):
Speaking of books, I just finished Arthur Hancock's book. Yeah,
and it's terrific.
Speaker 2 (01:38:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:38:32):
Yeah, it's his ups and down through his lifetime.
Speaker 2 (01:38:38):
I mean it's monumental.
Speaker 3 (01:38:40):
You couldn't make a movie yet of it.
Speaker 2 (01:38:42):
Yeah, I mean I get to read it. It's really
the parts you've shown me are real interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:38:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:38:50):
And he wrote poems with points.
Speaker 3 (01:38:53):
To it, absolutely, and they're good.
Speaker 2 (01:38:56):
Yeah, they are there.
Speaker 3 (01:38:57):
It was very very entertaining book.
Speaker 2 (01:39:00):
I think you can get it on Amazon, Amazon for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:39:06):
I'm sure I couldn't put it down.
Speaker 2 (01:39:08):
There probably locally. They've got it for sale too.
Speaker 3 (01:39:11):
I called a farm out there, that Stone Farm, and says,
you tell Arthur that I mad at him. He said,
what far? I said, I started reading his book and
he kept me up half the night last night, and
she said, he will love that. So she called him
and he called me and we had a nice chat.
Speaker 2 (01:39:30):
And yeah, there's the one really good poem in there
about the Fips, Yeah, and his relationship with them and
Clayburn and all that kind of stuff. That book is
worth buying just for that.
Speaker 3 (01:39:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:39:44):
It was yeah, a lot of fun and.
Speaker 3 (01:39:47):
He wrote so many, yeah, poems and everything. Another part
talking about is he wrote talking about Stacy, whole poem
about Stacy, his wife.
Speaker 2 (01:39:59):
That I see, I haven't, I haven't And it was,
you know, beautiful, wonderful.
Speaker 3 (01:40:05):
Yeah, he could really write. It was a terrific Yeah.
He had, you know, some really big hits, and he
sing with a lot of tough artists, you know well.
Speaker 2 (01:40:15):
And he he had that song Sunday Silence.
Speaker 3 (01:40:20):
Sunday Silence coming Down.
Speaker 2 (01:40:21):
That was a big hit too. That was a big
song country.
Speaker 3 (01:40:26):
There's a picture of him one Sunday Silence and it
was coming down to the wire in front for the
British Cup. Classic and there's a picture of him in
his box and he's down on his knees and he's
got his hands from the front of him.
Speaker 7 (01:40:41):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:40:42):
He says, I was praying, yeah, and I was asking
the Lord, don't let that no good and so be cantos.
Speaker 2 (01:40:52):
I remember watching that.
Speaker 3 (01:40:54):
Whoever was the you know, directly his collapsed, but he
went on and kneaes. He was down there praying.
Speaker 2 (01:41:02):
Whoever the director was that they had a camera on him,
but they had a camera on horse do but they
kept that camera on him. And he's real tall, Stacy's
pretty tall, and.
Speaker 3 (01:41:13):
You could see him gradually.
Speaker 9 (01:41:16):
Going down, down, down, down, down, And that was when
he was praying, and Stacy turned and looked to the
right just to see him, and she had to look down.
Speaker 3 (01:41:28):
It was honestly, it was.
Speaker 2 (01:41:29):
It was classic stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:41:32):
But it was beautifully written.
Speaker 6 (01:41:35):
Yeah, I get to read it next.
Speaker 10 (01:41:36):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:41:37):
He had lyrics to some of his songs and stuff. Yeah,
and he really had some amazing experiences.
Speaker 2 (01:41:44):
You know, do we have I know we have Sunday Silence.
Speaker 3 (01:41:49):
I don't know we bought a couple of them.
Speaker 2 (01:41:51):
Yeah, CD maybe we've got I forgot.
Speaker 3 (01:41:56):
Well anyway, if you have an opportunity to get it, oh, yeah,
get it, do because you're going to enjoy it. And
he's had a really exciting life. Yep. Huh do we
get him out here?
Speaker 6 (01:42:10):
Can we get him here?
Speaker 3 (01:42:12):
We'll ask, well, we'll check it out.
Speaker 5 (01:42:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:42:17):
So okay, all.
Speaker 6 (01:42:19):
Right, ma'am.
Speaker 2 (01:42:20):
Or what time is it? Oh it's uh.

Speaker 2 (01:44:16):
And here's Sally Van's little Sally Horse fans. Hello Nicole
per right, she's running the place. I've known Nicole, I
think since Pony Club. Yeah, yeah, she's I guess she
was the one that had a box, uh stall on
(01:44:39):
a truck, you know, that kind of single horse movement,
and they'd pull up and that thing and open up
and out would come a pony wrapped in fours and
it's tail done and it's a cap on.
Speaker 3 (01:44:52):
Is great family period.
Speaker 2 (01:44:53):
Oh yeah, they're wonderful. They really know their business and
they've been in sale, in business for god knows how long.
Many of the greatest runners ever step on a racetrack
entrusted to their care and that includes Justify and watched
him unload at I guess it was Churchill. I don't remember,
(01:45:18):
but I thought, wow, that's a big deal. So I've
been in business a long time. They've learned a lot
along the way. It's obvious their vehicles and equipment tiptop
shape and importance. Safety factor is the ability and experience
of the person behind the wheel. They're really proud of
(01:45:40):
their drivers at Sally Vance. Their experienced drivers experienced horsemen,
and that's a winning combination. Think about that the next
time you ship your horse across the county or across
the country, and think about if it's good enough for
Justify by Golliot, it's good enough for anybody. So when
(01:46:00):
you load your horse into a Sally Van, you can
depend on the factor person behind the wheel, one of
the best in the business.
Speaker 6 (01:46:08):
Folks said Sally Horse.
Speaker 2 (01:46:10):
Vans wouldn't have it any other way. That's why for
more than half a century Sally Horse Vans at two
five five ninety four oh six. That's two five five
ninety four oh six. Safest way to the winter circle.
Speaker 4 (01:46:30):
Right now, back to horse taps with ursul Ellis.
Speaker 3 (01:46:35):
I want to read one of two hauls Joe Palmer.
Speaker 2 (01:46:40):
At Joe b Hal Joe Real. This is the Beesman.
Speaker 3 (01:46:46):
This is one of Joe Palmer's call was ridden. There's
a byline of Miami, Florida, the cold name storm ridden
garnished with Theodore f Atkinson, dashed across the finish line
at high Liam Thanks ahead of the next horse a
consultation of the program showed he was owned by Potato
Chip Farm. There were some feeble witticisms on the horticultural
(01:47:11):
skill necessary to go potato chips and to escape them. This,
observers said, have to find the source of the name.
The trail led to a tall, big frame, amiable man
on the High Air Club Terrace. Being duly sworn. He
stated that his name was Harry Housman, that he lived
in Cincinnati, and that he was soaking up the Florida
(01:47:32):
sunshine because of the activities of the Houseman Potato product
company of which he is head. He had named his
table his stable the Potato Chip Farm because he had
bought it out of money he had made producing potato chips.
That seemed logical enough, and the subject was about to
be abandoned when mister Hushmand threw in enigmatic sentence quote,
(01:47:56):
I hope the money I've put into horses from potato
chips goes as well the money I put in a
potato chips for horses. They remarked, he'd had horses for
a long time. No, he started off with a couple
of yearlings that I bought at Saratoga Sales. In nineteen
forty eight. The canology seemed confused, but investigation turned up
(01:48:17):
a store here presented to confound those who contend that
the Gambler's way leads only to a pawn shop. As
of about nineteen nineteen, mister Housman, then a lad of
nineteen or so, was selling paper bags, wrapping paper, and
kindred items to a reluctant merchantry around Cincinnati, and in
the summer he drew a two week vacation across the river.
(01:48:40):
A racetrack beckon resistantly at Cincinnati. That have to be
the grand and unforgotten old Lutonia, long since dismantled and
now covered with all tanks. Yes, Slatnia, said mister Husman.
My idea was to go over there and bet five
dollars a ration until my money was gone.
Speaker 7 (01:49:00):
Go.
Speaker 3 (01:49:01):
For the first three days it went all right. They
were all losing days. Then we came up to the
last race. You remember a horse named Brunette. The second well,
I was out with a friend. He made his big
bed on another horse with a saver on Brunette. I
went the other way and put the big one on Brunette.
Forty dollars. It was Brunette came in rolling at seventeen
(01:49:24):
to one. From then on, I never had a losing day.
The vacation ended, but our young entrepreneur didn't have it all.
He called his office and I asked for another week off.
They explained he was in a lucky street. Normally this
can be added to any collection of famous last words,
but this wasn't normal. When the meeting was over, he said,
(01:49:47):
I had a new Dodge automobile, I had ten new suits.
I gave a sort of victory party that cost a
lot of money, and I had four nine hundred dollars
more in the bank than when I started the vacation.
A few days later, he was in a store when
somebody came in and asked for potato chips. The owner
went and rummaged in the stock room and came back
(01:50:09):
with the news that the potato chip situation was very
short and an extended shipping hadn't come. I asked him
where he got his potato chips, and he said Philadelphia.
Then asked him why I didn't buy them from a
manufacturer in Cincinnati, and he said they wouldn't any Four
or five weeks later, there was so it was that
e to one who was weary of reading the newspapers
(01:50:31):
of citizens who lost large sums down the drain through
failure properly to estimate the form of the running horse.
The store came like old line. Here was a fortune,
and a racing stable found it squarely on a solid
seventeen to one shot. Yes, I said, good hunting to you.
(01:50:52):
That's a good story. All right. Well, let's see what
we got to talk about. Thurberd Training Center here. We've
had some winners from here here recently, since the twenty fifth, Yes,
since last week, the last week, since last week's program. Yeah,
(01:51:15):
when you train here. Yeah, we've had some. Let's see
John and his satell at Turfway, Paula Lobo's saddle the
winter at Turfway. Paula Lobo also sand the winter at
Mahoning Valley. He signed another winner at Turfway. He sat
a lot of runners. Carol Karamory, Edward Oh's son sat,
(01:51:38):
I mean saddlle winter at Turfway Park. And Anna mea
lady out here, saddled the winner at at Turfway Park.
She saddles a lot of I'd like to meet her.
Speaker 6 (01:51:50):
I open because they ship up there.
Speaker 2 (01:51:53):
On a sally Van he gets you know how many
people are going in there, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:52:00):
Yeah, it's a good it's a good, safe trip, that's
for sure. I probably miss some winners out here because
I don't know all the trainers like I used to.
But anyway, it's a great place to train your horses
if you want to train out here. Man to talk
to is Jim Pentagraph. And Jim is let me get
his phone number at a THIRDD training center eight five
(01:52:21):
nine two nine three, eighteen fifty three. And of course Jim,
he's he does the he's he's in tract charge of
taking care of their maintenance on the tracks and also
the tracks at Kenan. And he's got a nice grace
grass gallop here that you can gallop on and you
(01:52:43):
can take your horse, you know, right from time they've
broke starting right here on a smaller track down below. Yeah,
and you've got a five h mile track and then
they've got a mile track and you can take him,
bring him out here unbroken and started starting on them.
And they've got everything you need. They've you know, we've
(01:53:06):
got a clocker, Steve Casey, she's doing clocking, Susie. Yeah,
she helps him.
Speaker 6 (01:53:16):
Yeah, we saw Shoe see the other day.
Speaker 2 (01:53:18):
That was fun. Yeah, Susie used to be an outrider
here and now she helps with clocking. Yeah, we saw
her and she she said, when you've got more doctors
and you've got friends, you know, it's too late to ride.
Speaker 3 (01:53:34):
Give it up. So they've got I used to do
that clocking over there until I lost my hearing. Yeah,
and then I stayed for ten years.
Speaker 2 (01:53:45):
I know you loved it.
Speaker 3 (01:53:47):
Oh, I loved it. It was fun. Although we could
get planning could get hectic after the breaker, you know,
they I would come in and help you.
Speaker 6 (01:53:57):
I would come in and help.
Speaker 3 (01:53:58):
I've had several people up and help me, you know.
Speaker 6 (01:54:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:54:02):
They used to keep any ems uh person out there,
you know, a couple of girls, and they'd always jump
in and help me.
Speaker 2 (01:54:14):
Yeah. That was fun.
Speaker 3 (01:54:15):
Well, yeah, needed somebody to right to the horses down.
You know, you get three or four working at one time.
It's kind of hard to write down the names of
the horse, you know, and then and clock at the
same time.
Speaker 2 (01:54:30):
Well, and I'll tell you something else.
Speaker 6 (01:54:32):
You realize how safe the track is when you.
Speaker 2 (01:54:35):
Clock, because they have so seldom there are any breakdowns
or anything.
Speaker 3 (01:54:40):
Very few breakdowns track. It's a great track.
Speaker 5 (01:54:44):
Yeah, of course.
Speaker 3 (01:54:45):
Then you know they've got like I said, they've got
a clock on Steve Casey and Susie helps and then
the starting gate of course. Right here, they've got the
grass gallops. They've got new barns over here. That's the
magnific great barn. And it's just it's a it's an
(01:55:06):
atmosphere out here. There's so horses thrive out here.
Speaker 2 (01:55:10):
Yeah, it's quiet.
Speaker 3 (01:55:11):
It's quiet. Yeah, you can take the horse out and
graze him and and you know it's uh.
Speaker 2 (01:55:19):
Good.
Speaker 3 (01:55:20):
Got a lovely uh grass gallops back here in the back.
We used to go back here occasionally. Yeah. We didn't
really have any grasshouses though, did we.
Speaker 6 (01:55:31):
Really?
Speaker 3 (01:55:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:55:34):
The grass truck.
Speaker 3 (01:55:35):
Tried to run run on grass up there. That's where
I got fined fifty dollars. Well, they took it off
the grass up at very Dance and I called up
to scratch. They says, you can't. What do you scratch?
What's wrong with him? I said nothing? And he says,
I want to go on and I want to run
him on the on the grass says, well, you can't
(01:55:57):
just scratch him for no reason. You have to have
a vets say, if you get to get it out,
you mean, I said, I've got to tell it. I
got a line, lie to a vet, tell them that
this horse is sound, so I can pass it on
to you and lie to you. And he says, well,
we put it that way, but yeah, and I said,
(01:56:19):
I'm not gonna do it, and he says, well, you
don't have to. You can always pay a fine fifty dollars.
I said, send me the fifty. Remember the fifty dollars.
Speaker 9 (01:56:27):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:56:30):
That I said about the only time, only only time
I ever got fined by the stewards. But anyway, yeah,
I had to tell that story because I still rankle.
Speaker 2 (01:56:42):
What about the horse that ate the tobacco? Did you
have to pay a pine on that one?
Speaker 3 (01:56:48):
They were going to they they took a person away
for cross sake.
Speaker 5 (01:56:52):
Geesus piece.
Speaker 2 (01:56:53):
So that was awful. We had tobacco on that farm.
Speaker 3 (01:56:56):
And yeah, it could be test positive for nicotine.
Speaker 7 (01:57:00):
I know.
Speaker 2 (01:57:00):
A minute.
Speaker 6 (01:57:05):
Must in the receiving morn spit out of one.
Speaker 3 (01:57:13):
All right, well it's time to go. Thanks for listening,
and we'll talk to you next week. Go catch say away.
Speaker 10 (01:57:24):
Until we me again. Happy train to keeps fine men
who cares about the clouds when we're to get sing
(01:57:45):
a song and bring the sunny Way happy tray to you.
Tell me me.
Speaker 2 (01:57:58):

Speaker 7 (01:58:01):
We
