Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Stockyards Banks Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I am Anthony White,
along with Van Howes and Bo Robinson, coming to you
from Clark's Main Street Market studios in downtown Lexington, Kentucky.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
I'm out of breath, Oh, Bo, this has been Sunday.
I just sprind it down Sunday.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Yes, I'm trying to keep my composure, trying to keep
my breath.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
But it's tough.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
You're getting old. I've been on that great hair that
I was talking about Van having. I've had that for
a while now. So we are doing good, Van. But
what is not getting old is the news that is
churning out against about our football team. M Phil Still,

(00:49):
how do you feel about me? How do you feel
about what he writes? He's always the first one that
we typically report on, and there's always something interesting and
controversial and my eyes, you.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Know, man, Phil still goes a long way back. He
goes back when I was playing. Geez. It's hard, man,
because when you start dealing with national media, how much
do they really how much are they really able to
invest in each conference? To me, it's just it's it's

(01:29):
just paper watching, and paper watching tells you a lot
but it doesn't tell you everything. So for me, I
take everything with a grain of salt.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
So the fact that.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
UH still has Leros Bron, UH, Washlegger and afari.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
As h All le Sec.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
It's crazy for.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Just four teams typically go, I thought it was like first, second,
and third and then honorable mention.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yeah, I don't. I don't. I don't even honestly, anthy,
I don't even count third team, That's what I was thinking. No,
if you're not first or second, to me is look,
once you get the third team you're just grasping for
straws at that point, you know, So I'm not. I
don't even once it goes past first and second, I don't.

(02:30):
I don't think it's even relevant in my opinion.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
So, so what do you think about A and Larryl's
second team, Josh Bron second team, Washchleger, No Lebron is
Washleger th third teams, Yeah, Alex fourth team. So no
first team is for us. And the funny thing is
there's really nobody huge contributors from last year that are

(02:57):
on this list.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
No, and I'm gonna say this honestly, if you have
watched me on any of the things that I talked
to a contribute. I've liked Alisa Forres since day one, Yes,
since day one. How is Alisafaria's fourth team though?

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Like, are.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
That's what I'm saying that. Well, now that's where you
you have to tell me that, because if you put
him an inside linebacker, he's not fourteen. If you put
him at outside linebacker, he's not fourth team because to me,
he's really a dB, he's really an extra, He's a nickelback. Right,
So I'm not sure how That's why I say these

(03:42):
are just paper deals. Now, I think he can be
a second round potential, all that SEC contributor. If he
has the season I think he can have, that's it
can be a third team. But from what he's shown
these last three to four, I just don't see how
you put him at fourth team or with some other people.

(04:02):
That's just that's just hard for me. But but again
that's just people just That's why national media stuff I
will not. I just don't. I don't put too much
stock into it. But once the season's over with, once
they have watched tape and seen guys play, that's when
I say, Okay, I'm gonna take a little bit more

(04:23):
stock in it. But then they still don't watch every
game like we do. So there's gonna be some players
that they miss out on because they don't have the
quote unquote numbers. But when you watch them play in
and play out, they are playing like an all conference player.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
So do you not? So when you played it, it
didn't count. When somebody gave you some pre preseason accolades,
they didn't register.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
They were not honestly anythy back when we play you
had to get the magazine even though and I didn't
have enough money go buy magazine, so I had I
have no idea he was received oh comforts anyway, I
couldn't even guess. The only person I can guess right
now off top would be you, Yeast Couch, Moe, Marty Moore,

(05:14):
Melvin Johnson. Those are the ones that pop out during
my time at Kentucky who were probably preseason all SEC. No,
it was a great course price because he can tell
me if I was preseason SEC. I doubt it.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Well, I mean if you were, so, say you were,
but if somebody was stole that honor up on you,
would you would you return to honor?

Speaker 3 (05:37):
I wouldn't you know? All right now, when we talking
about two different times. When I was a seventeen to
twenty one year old, I would have thought, man, my
stuff don't stink right right, But as an almost fifty
year old, nah, it matters zero. Preseason it matters zero.
So I guess you you have to take into account

(05:59):
the the stage of life that I'm in. I'm a
player man being anything. All that he see means everything.
You know what I'm saying, especially this conference.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Here's another question I got for you. This I find
extremely interesting. So we always have like punters on and
I think I think Larry's gonna I think he's gonna
have a great season, like I said, But if you
come on, man, let me get my sentence out.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, sir myself.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
No, it's fine because that's the same thought I have
when I when I stumbled up on the information like.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
So so is that it.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Is that a slight to Kentucky as a program, not
saying our punters deserve what they yet, but they also
get a lot of work because if you only punt
two times a game, your average may look good, depending
and then a lot of times, if you're the right punter,
you could be punting from your forty five, you know,
just trying to get a place, So you really not
looking to get sixty yard punts fifty yards, You're just

(07:02):
looking to get it inside the twenty, which is only
like thirty or forty more yards. So does that say
anything to you? And like, why are you preseason punter
second team? Like that's our highest our highest thing right
now was a second team punter, I would say this.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
I'm not gonna answer the question. I'm gonna say this,
a punter is a defensive team greatest ally, So I'm
gonna say, from a defensive standpoint, I need my punter
to be first team because that means we got a
high chance of flipping the field if our offense has
a bad couple series or not. So is it a

(07:45):
big deal from a defensive standpoint that the punter is
that thought after? Of course, now coming from the other
side of the ball, it's not a good look because
then it means we are punning up lot, and not
only punny a lot, we are punny from a situation
on the field area on the field where it allows

(08:06):
him to boom fifty and sixty year old points on
the regular So depends on how you look at it.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
Do you think Still do you think Still's is posts
what he posts maybe for controversial reasons because Kentucky fans,
I mean just having four people on the list in general,
but it is four round, I mean four teams, as
we stated, is it gets a little bit interesting. But
there are some questionable things. But the one thing you
and I usually break down when we do on Wednesdays

(08:35):
from nine to ten pm, as you always state that
we look at everyone like you look at who the
other people were, who first and second and thirteen? You know,
you look at who the first team, second team, thirteen
quarterbacks are, you look at who the first second, third team?
But we have two offensive alignment on any ranking right now,

(08:56):
it gives you pause. It gives you a little smile,
a little little smirk like, hey, we might have something
going on there. But I don't know how this how
they calculate this, Like I don't even know how this.
We didn't even have a whole spring.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Thing.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
It was.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
It was kind of just like a I don't know,
like a third practice or something.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
And that that's even a better question because they were
now on a on a team last year, right so
and they were not playing ANCC. It wasn't like every
gott to transfer from ACC. So how how do you

(09:38):
know how they're gonna acclimate to the stresses of this
conference compared to the stresses of their previous conference? You know, man,
That's why, like pre season is is just difficult because,
especially now with the portal, you have no idea whom
you're gonna have start next year because of the ability

(10:00):
to grab people off of other teams that have played
meaningful football. It's tough. But I would say this, I
think it's a positive for our old line. We have
guys on this list because last year, as many people
have said, that unit wasn't one, wasn't a positive, wasn't
the net positive unit. So to get two on this

(10:24):
list after last season is a positive. If you want
to find something positive about every situation, that's.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
A big deal.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
Probably because at least someone has seen these guys or
think these guys can at least play in this conference.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Not before I was we had a converse. I had
a conversation in the middle of last week, and I
gave my opinion and not just kind of interested in
your opinion. So there's kind of so I don't know
if it's even public at this point, but apparently that
because out of his been named the Starter. Not really so,
I don't know if they called the starter or whatever.

(11:00):
But it's taking the the reps, I mean the reps
we ain't talking about here. You get series, you get
the serious no, the reps, and then you know, right
before we give it to blow the whistle, Hey, Cutter
or Bow, you come in to take you can get
a couple here, you can get a couple. Uh so
the so there's kind of there's been questions of is

(11:22):
Zach the man? And if we're not certain exact the
man and Cutter is the is the future?

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Why not keep it open? Why not let Cutter?

Speaker 2 (11:31):
You know, like, why not let Cutter develop a little
bit more because we were gonna need him next year?

Speaker 1 (11:37):
So are you are?

Speaker 4 (11:39):
You?

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Are we exact the man because we invested in him,
or Zac the man because he has one year left?
And if it is the case, I'm not sure. I'm
not certain if I think that's and and I'm partial
to Cutter boldly.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
I like him.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
I watched him play in high school. The guy can
make all the throws, I think, if you can keep
them up right. But I think some people in the
community are as fans, not as controversy as fans, are
a little upset because I mean just kind of not
sure because Zach has gotten the nod, and so if

(12:11):
it doesn't work out, what does that mean for Cutter?
Because Cutters doesn't seem like he's getting a fair shape.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
Okay, let me let me let me play Devil's advocate
there when you said that, all right, Cutter, Bodi has
been a system for a year, right, Yes, so he
understands the scheme. That's the advantage of having a back
to back year with the same coordinator. Right, So he

(12:40):
has the advantage.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
Of being on the field, running place understanding the system. Right.
Zach Cazada has zero understanding. So it could be a
situation of let's get you acclimated up to speed because
you are coming to this a new and the real
company petition. Anyway, Anthony, we both know this. This spring

(13:03):
means nothing. It's fall camp. If if if Cutter comes
in in August or whenever they start to thinking, they
start in August, they start training camp in August, and
he comes out and balls out and in a very
important year for the program. I don't think they will

(13:24):
hesitate of giving him one reps. So I'm I'm thinking
it's a situation of let's let's, as you said, let's
make this thing a fair battle in a fall by
giving Zach some reps in the spring, which I'm sorry, y'all,
I don't like to say it's meaningless, but these reps
in the in the spring are really for the up

(13:45):
and coming players more than the guys who are penciling
at starters in the fall. So get them acclimated, give them,
give him some chances to get reps in the new system,
and then it's a fair fight in the fall. I'm
not I don't think Cutter is all of this thing
in my opinion, but my opion means nothing because I'm
in Batman's Louisiana. But I'm hoping that he's not out

(14:07):
of it when it comes fall and they get an
equal opportunity to to get the keys to the car
starting in August.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
See, that's what I like you you've made since the situation.
I feel a whole lot better because I got another
because before you said that, I had another thought that
we will talk about after the break, And if you
want to join the conversation eight five nine two eight
zero two two eight seven eight nine to eight zero cats.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
We will be back after this.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Oneing Sports Talk on
news radio six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 5 (14:38):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the Lead Troop for its radio network on six thirty
w LAP.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White alone with Van Heus and producing Bol Robinson. Stockyards
Bank has been trusted partner since nineteen hundred and four,
so head on over to syb dot com for all
your banking and financial needs. We're talking to UK football

(15:10):
now and it's I guess level headed. I don't think
it's negative talk. I don't think it's extremely positive because
we really have no bearing on how this team performs
or how they prepare. We're just discussing the facts and
trying to hash out some things. And Van House thinks
that Zach Calzada is getting a lot of the reps

(15:31):
this spring and summer so that he can be a
little bit more affiliated and acquainted with the playbook, which
makes a whole lot of sense. I did not look
at it that way. Van You've said this, and I
think this is something else. The fan base is a
little bit concerned about Van Is. If you are right,

(15:51):
everything is fine and dandy. But if Zach continues to
get the reps and Cutter becomes anxious, irritate it empty
thing else, then does cut her weight around the whole
another year to see if you're gonna bring another dog

(16:13):
on quarterback in front of me, which they are. Here's
so here's the worst part. So I don't know, Like
you said, this is a pivotal year for us. Mark
Stup knows. Mark Stoop knows this. Vince Merrill probably knew this.
This is a pivotal year for the universites. This is
a pivotal year for Mark Stoops and they gonna be
at Barnhart's head if this thing don't get corrected, because

(16:36):
Barnhar's gonna have to make a decision he don't want
to make because of a decision he's already made at
some point. If Cutter is not happy, not saying you
got to keep him happy, I think you should. But
if your cutter is not happy and Cutter leaves man,
do you know what that leaves us with? An empty
quarterback room after next year.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Oh my god.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Then we then we just then we just pick up
Stone Saunders, record holder in the in the state of Pennsylvania.
I think that's true, right, and we're not going after this.
I don't want to say I apologize in advance. Is
his name Kowski Tawski from from Ohio quarterback that we

(17:21):
feel very good about? Right? Yes?

Speaker 1 (17:24):
So so okay, So that's two.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
You know we're not talking about if we get we're
talking about you.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
Say empty though you say empty room, it's not empty.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
So Stone would be a freshman freshman, but he would
be the only one that you can hang your hat on.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
Can we bringing another guy? Did we bring in another guy?

Speaker 1 (17:49):
I'm gonna get to you.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
Hold on.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
We got Zach, We got Zach in there, we got Cutter,
we got Bow, we got Stone, and we got Ward
Brennan Ward from uh Ohio, Gohanda, Ohio, which is by clumbing.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
So that means so. So that means you have three
you have.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
Three freshmen, three freshmen. You know, you know what it
sounds like.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
It sounds like your senior year are your back room
had Ray mc laurin, who was a senior. I was
a redshirt freshman in Mike days.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
Y'all running back so soft though, y'all running back to quarterback?
Did we have Tim Couch as a freshman? Did we
not have Tim Couches a freshman?

Speaker 1 (18:29):
What do you mean right as a fresh.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
So that.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
His sophomore year Tim Couch? And do none is freshman
year except run the option. I'm confused.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
Well, we know that that louis a game, y'all. You
and them almost came in and almost won a game four.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
So then they stopped taking that. They took me out
the game. They stopped putting in a game. Not saying
that that made a difference.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
But uh, but yes, yes, yes, you are right. Though,
if we lose Cutter is it's almost like starting over.
But Anthony, then we just talked about this. But you
have the portal.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
No, no, no, no, no, you have to have some continuity.
You have to let you. He has to let we
have to let Big Blue Nation know. We have to
let Mitch Barnhart. Everybody has to know that we have
faith in you restoring this program. You're restoring this program.
It's not rolling the dice every year on the quarterback.
If Cutter Bowl, here's the thing. If Cutter Bowl, he
ain't the guy cut times. If he is a guy,

(19:26):
give him a shot. That's that's simple, simply put. Now,
I'm not saying you bring Zack cales Outa in to
make him sick. But if it's if it's a fifty
to fifty, now you tell me this just to make
sense of all this. If it's a fifty to fifty race,
if it's forty nine to fifty one, on your decision
in the fifty one is on Zach cales Outa, wouldn't
you just take the forty nine and build off of that.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
No, because you're trying to win. Anthee?

Speaker 1 (19:52):
Who is who?

Speaker 3 (19:54):
Who did Universe of Miami bring in and have one
that best years in a long time? Cam Ward right?
Our both off ten one season came off of what
transfer quarterbacks?

Speaker 1 (20:06):
Right?

Speaker 3 (20:06):
Am? I? Not? Right? Right?

Speaker 1 (20:09):
Ran out of who did who?

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Did LSU have his best season on offense with Joe
Brady and that guy from Ohio from from Borough Joey right? Right?

Speaker 1 (20:24):
All right?

Speaker 3 (20:25):
Who is who is University of Oklahoma guaranteeing a hoping
that that they can catch something special? Did they just
not get a guy from Washington State? I'm just saying,
is it the Is it the optimal thing to do?
Of course not. But the great thing about the portal
now is you can grab a guy and he can
become a life changing or I don't want to say

(20:49):
generation because that's just fucking crazy.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
Pants up, man, pull your pants up. It is getting
deep in here. He gonna say, Joey Burrow when every
receiver that every step field on Joey Burrows on Sundays.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
We'll be back after this year.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
Listen to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on news
Radio six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 5 (21:07):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead Troop Barde Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Van House and Boba Robinson. This hour
of Sunday Morning Sports Talk is brought to you by
a country boy brewing talking UK football and I'm gonna
see if we can make sense of something that was

(21:40):
said last week.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
It may work. If it doesn't, it doesn't.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
If it does, it does, you can join us eight
five nine to eight zero two two eight seven eight
five nine to eight zero Cats you have one more
segment to join us. So if you'd like to join in,
now is the time, otherwise you miss out. Van House.
We talked last week, and you probably the only person
I have heard state, I'm not gonna say articulate state

(22:08):
that you think this team can go five hundred or better.
The floor is yours. Please please explain the Big Blue Nation.
How you see such things happening?

Speaker 3 (22:23):
Oh? I mean, it's it's easy, man. Come on, how
can you not see six wins? It's dumbfounding that people
cannot see six wins. Oh, it's because of last year's
team that only won four. I guess now that that
same one game, right right? Well, Anthony, to win six,

(22:46):
I gotta do this. Win two SEC games. I gotta
do this one four you want if you really think
about it, I'm just saying I obviously, guys, we have
said you win you're three games, right, the three non
conference games, those are the games that you have to win.
Those are the three. So now you'll not have to

(23:07):
win three or the next nine. So three the next
nine I see us winning to the three conference games.
That's just it's simplest that.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
Well, let me get down to it. We got Toledo.
You said we got Toledo on August third, thirtieth. August thirtieth,
I'm assuming you count that as one of the three of.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
The six.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
Three non conference games.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
Oh Miss September sixth and Lexington at the Crow? Are
you counting that and you counting that one?

Speaker 3 (23:42):
I am. I am counting that one.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
Because so last year. We shouldn't count our foreign eight
record because last year. But because we beat them last year,
we should be able to beat them again this year.
Is with your stadum no go ahead?

Speaker 3 (23:53):
It has, it has. It has nothing to do with that.
They has. Sometimes we as watches those sports, only look
at the team that you are affiliated with. Old Miss
has issues too. They lost a lot of players. They
lost their third quarterback, first round bread draft pick. They

(24:15):
have a good quarterback coming back. But Jackson Dart was
that dude last year. It was the injury to the offense.
They lost some receivers, they lost some defensive players.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
Did they lose Ma Did they lose Mac Crown year
before or before that?

Speaker 3 (24:31):
The year before last year? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Old Miss?

Speaker 3 (24:34):
Did they? No? Jackson Dart started two years he started.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
Using know what I'm saying before Jackson Dart who's the
starting quarterback. Oh my god.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
Now now we're talking three four years ago.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
No, we're saying, so you're act so they turned over
when they Now you're saying they just gonna reload. Is
my point, They're just gonna reload. But go ahead, so
you you you more optimistic in us beating them than
their reload. And now the position you're saying, they lost
their first round draft pick too, is what you're saying.
I'm just trying to clear this up for the people listening.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
Right right right, They lost first round draft picky, they
lost some high end players that they had on defense.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Okay, all right, yes, so next game Eastern Michigan September thirteen,
that's a win.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
Seat. So we go to we go to Columbia.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
Yepeptember after and oh after a bye week and oh
three and oh and we're coming up a bye week.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
Remember that. Hey, it's right.

Speaker 3 (25:27):
And I don't want any fans, any fans saying we're
getting all on the bandwagon.

Speaker 1 (25:33):
Oh this is gonna be a great year.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
We can no, no, no, no, no, y'all. A lot
of y'all saying we're gonna only win two to three games.
If we three and oh, we're going to oh to
nine the rest of the season. I don't want anybody
coming to me and say, ooh, Van was right man three.
I don't want to hear it. I don't want to
hear it. All right, So we go to Columbia. I'm
not sure about that. That is a make that's that's

(25:54):
a I'm not sure about it.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
Hold your horses, Hold your horses while you hold it,
hold it while you have We're going to start back
to South Carolina because the biggest fans hotline are lit up,
and this is all so I don't want I don't
want you to get in the middle of it. Are
You're still at three and oer right now? So when
we take this call, right So, when we take this call,
they may be on your side. They may try to
talk some sense into you. So let's get to the

(26:17):
biggest fans hotline and see what Genny has to say.
Good morning, Jenny, what do you got for us?

Speaker 6 (26:22):
Well, good morning, guys. I am so glad to hear
a sports show talking about football in Kentucky for a change.
Now you're talking my favorite sport. And let me say
from the start, I am Derek Ramsey's age and I
followed the cat. So yeah, I'll watched you all play
as well, and I'll be in Croker Field with my

(26:43):
season ticket no matter what the record. With all that
being said there there, I appreciate the discussion. I appreciate
the insight of former players. So it seems to me
is so last year there was definitely something going on
in the locker room. We can argue over what it
was or how it got started. But people are complaining

(27:08):
about coach Stud's not saying anything right now. To me,
anything he did say would be criticized. So to some extent,
why do it people are waiting for it to be
seen on the field. What would you think is the
most important thing to happen to turn the locker room around?

(27:30):
If that were the issue.

Speaker 2 (27:34):
Well, Gene, is that it? I mean, we're gonna we
don't talk about it. I didn't know it.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
Sounds like you may have had a follow up today.

Speaker 6 (27:43):
Well, to to some extent, everybody has opinions, But I
think that Students' success started with the big blue wall
and the culture that was built, and the and Brad
White and defense. There are three assets to the ball game,

(28:04):
and all three have been really good at some point.
I love you, Anthony White. I'm a defense first out,
so I love to watch as.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
That's what I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
But that's what I'm talking But.

Speaker 6 (28:18):
No, but I think that not enough credit is given
to the fact that bred White is an excellent coach,
that the offensive line needs to get and try, and
that Liam Cohen sent us back, in my opinion, by
coming and going and coming and going and near that
started the lack of continuity. So that's a tangled web

(28:40):
that I've woven. But I will be there to watch
us get out of it because I believe that we can.
What is your recipe for success?

Speaker 1 (28:47):
Thank you for the call, Jenny, Thank you for your
support call.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
I'm going to if we got time at the end,
I'll let you go get back to your three and
oh but she has brothers A.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
Good point and one thing.

Speaker 2 (28:59):
We talked about this on Wednesday, and Jenny, if you
do like I don't know if you're a podcast, I
don't know how late you stayp but Van and I
do this every Wednesday from nine to ten pm Eastern
Standard time. She asked what went wrong? And you and
I have talked to a lot of former players, not
former like us, former like former in the last three
to five years that are no longer on the team.

(29:21):
And I think in Jenny you get you're quite accurate.
There was no leadership, and I don't. I don't think that.
And this is knock on stoops. It's knock on stoops
in a good way. That even his leadership, he's too
light on them, you know, even all families. In my family,
my mom was the one who put the hammer down.

(29:42):
My dad didn't really care what you did. You can
just walk all over him. So but there has to
be somebody to keep the piece. There has to be
somebody to keep the structure. And I don't think we
had that. And so when she's asking what needs to
change in the locker room, it may.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
Have been the It may she couldn't be. She could
have a good point.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
That office of Court leave every year, Dame Key said
one of the reasons he wanted he had a different
office coordinator. It's an entire time here. Never got a
chance to get comfortable with play calling or anything. So
I would say leadership the recipe to getting leadership, I
don't know. As I was trying to tell Van's thickhead
that you that we need to have continuity at the

(30:22):
quarter I mean at some position. I know, the defensive room,
there's a lot, there's quite a bit of tibe. Maybe
Tye Bryant can do it, Maybe Jordan Lovett can do it,
and those those are key positions because they're quarterbacks are
the defense is a lot. Alex Lafaria probably could do it,
But offensively, I don't know who can do it because
Zach ain't been there long enough and for the past

(30:42):
four years, our quarterback hasn't been there long enough to
put their finger in somebody's face or grab their jersey
and let them know, you know, to tighten up. And
they've spent too much time on their back for you
to be trying to tell somebody what to do. But
you may think otherwise. Man, as far as what needs
to change to get the locker room straight.

Speaker 3 (31:02):
Look, I as former players, and I really want people
to understand this. H Coaches create rules, so to speak. Right,
rules don't create culture though. Cultures created by the guys
in the locker room. There's a standard that is created
by the players in the locker room that everybody should

(31:23):
withhold uphold to Now, if your standard. If the people
creating a stand in the locker room are not standard holders,
then you're gonna have the issues that we had last year.
And I not knowing anything because I'm not there, but
I can pretty much say I feel strongly about that
the that the people or the leaders in that locker

(31:46):
room were not the standard holders that will that will
just wreck of culture. And we was on well, I
was on a one in ten team. The culture was
still the same. We just didn't have the dogs to
win more games than what we should have won that year.
It wasn't that the leadership wasn't as great, it just

(32:06):
was we didn't have the players. We still fought hard
every game, we just didn't win any. This year was
a step down. Even between the last two seven win
season before that, this was completely different. And when you
start letting the rains go or everybody's not took it
on the rope at the same time, is when you

(32:27):
have these issues. And some people say it's been brewing
for years. It was brewing because we lost senior leaderships
and the guy that the guys who was stepping up
to be the next level of seniors did not stepped
up like they should have.

Speaker 2 (32:42):
I agree, I agree, but I think I think we're
gonna get some different out of tie, and we would
get some different out of tie in Jordan this year.
I think hopefully that's where it'll come from. I hope,
I hope so because on our team, like I said,
Tim Couche really didn't have to say much. The Ussie
Bonner was a pretty good leader, like a vocal leader.

(33:03):
But like my senior year, which had been in Dusty's
I guess sophomore year.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
Maybe sophomore year, uh huh.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
Sneddecker had the defense. Sneddecker and a Creek man, they
had the defense. And if they felt like we went
holding up our end of the bargain, then Snetdiger comeing
to our locker room and say, but the only problem
was they getting forty and fifty points put up on
their heads.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
So you couldn't say too much stuff. But there was
that understanding me and him.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
You know, they were a little bit like you said,
there's a meeting of the minds, like look we gotta
and we know they were putting bad positions a lot
of times. So but they were still running around out
there knocking people's heads around. So Jenny had, Like I said,
that is a good call. I do think she's onto
a lot of things. So I think Liam leaving, I
think that did mess up the continuity on the offense
yinzer Well, Eric leaving in the middle of tonight. Then

(33:51):
yems are getting two years to straighten things out with
different coordinators. Didn't didn't work out very well. Then we
bring Wolf for back and it's so so Jenny. If
I were to just be just take the facts, just
only taking the facts, keeping Woolford should make things better.
Keeping him just having him here two years in a

(34:12):
row should make things better. Having him two years in
a row with Bush should make things better. I don't
have faith in it, but just on math, I'm just
a math on paper. Now, were gaining the continuity she's
been asking about the only problem we've been having that
we talked about on this show was I don't like
having a quarterback every year. Okay, we got the coordinator

(34:33):
for two years, office line coach for two years, running
back coach for two years, but every year is a
new quarterback. You get acclimated to play calling and everything else.
So that's why I think if it's close, give cut
her an opportunity or let Cutter go if you don't
think it's close and you don't think he's the future,
Ben Howes, I'm gonna let you finish. I'm gonna get

(34:56):
on break early so we have time. We're just gonna
fly through no only schedule, but we will finish that
when we come back. You're listening Stockyards Bank Sunday when
a Sports Talk on news radio six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 5 (35:07):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk presented by
the lead Troop Boards Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Van House and bol Robinson here to
close out this edition of Sunday Morning Sports Talk.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
Van House, we got a couple.

Speaker 2 (35:33):
Of minutes, but I did want to get too back
to because I did want to entertain Jens Jenny. Jenny's
call Gen Nay good because she has some really good points.
I think we pretty much addressed him and if we
or anything else we got to fill in, we'll fill in.
But I wanted to get you back. So you got
us going three and oh going into Columbia, South Carolina

(35:53):
after bye week, and you don't have faith in stoops
off of bye week. So you said you don't. You're
not guaranteeing victory again South Carolina. So then we're going
to Athens. We're going down Toby. Now, when when you
talk about the next two? So you was on the
road when you when you when you start talking on
that trash at three and oh, you was on the road, right,

(36:14):
I call you, butter. So if South Carolina Georgia, we
got the horns here, hook them, hook them here in
Lexington lost October eighteenth.

Speaker 1 (36:27):
So now we're three and three, five hundred yep.

Speaker 3 (36:31):
Okay, I'll give you three and three.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
We got Josh go ahead.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
So I'm not sure about the South Carolina game, but
I'll give you three and three a.

Speaker 2 (36:39):
Lot week in South Carolina after not being challenge all right.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
But but we three and oh, hey, hold on, now,
let's just say this. Sin've got a couple of minutes.
Let's just say we're three and oh and we're averaging
twenty eight points a game. That South Carolina game is
a little different. And if we're three and oh and
we averaged thirteen points game, that's true.

Speaker 1 (37:00):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
So so That's why I'm hesitant about the South Carolina
game because I'm gonna tell you I said, don't here.
I'm not sold on on Sellers as a quarterback that's
gonna lead them again to another nine win season. I'm
not sold on them. So okay, okay, let's go on
through the Texas and.

Speaker 1 (37:17):
Losses, Josh Hipel coming and lection too.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
That's that is a hard one for me because I
gotta see I'm laying at an L because we don't
play them well. But who is their quarterback and how
he's gonna fail? When when the Nico left you, so
he's not East, I'm gonna leave you now, So Nico,
I'm gonna leave you left them. Who is going to

(37:42):
be the quarterback? Is he going to be able to
produce for Josh Hipel If he does, that's an L.
If they struggle, I like the game.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
Guarantanna ain't got no younger siblings, does he.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
That's that's exactly what we need to this younger brother.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
All right, so we go. So we're looking at three
and four ish. Because you stayed on the fence, you're
guaranteeing us old mess. But on the fence about South
Carolina which has me scratched my head. So three and
fourish going to Auburn W four and four, we got
Florida and them coming to town, Lagway, Lagway.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
I'm i'm an. I like the way this game is
setting up potentially because I think Florida plays someone tough
before us. But for the for the for the sake
of going through this, let's label that a L. But
I feel better about that game then I feel about
the Tennessee in South Carolina game.

Speaker 2 (38:46):
Four fow So does that make us four and four five,
four and five four five, four and five four five
Texas Tech November fifteen. That's a win, five and five.
So now we're five hundred and five and five. We
got Old Vandy down there at Old Tennessee.

Speaker 1 (39:09):
And cash the win.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
That's a win.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
Okay, six and five, six and five, and we got
big Dog. Now we're going to big dog them house.
We're going to the big Dog house. That's that's that's
the questionable one again. But you already asked sick, you
already got you, but you but you already feel.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
Like, yeah, we already six but but Anthony, hold on,
let me let me go through this. Since you hit
that you got quarterbacks, all right, Louis's got a new
quarterback too, But why do they get the benefit of
the doubt and we don't doptor Mike? All right, man,
I appreciate you having me on. Think about that, y'all.
Why does Louisville get the benefit of the doubt and

(39:49):
they change quarterbacks every year? Tyler shut and now this guy?
But we when we change quarterback, it's a problem.

Speaker 2 (39:55):
Ben, You have me on, brother, Ben Houses, thank you
for your time. Van Houses calling seven the five, y'all.
Those are van House thoughts.

Speaker 1 (40:02):
And no, because you took the lous you took Vandy,
I didn't.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
I didn't say it was big little Oh okay, So
I said that's a questionable game.

Speaker 1 (40:12):
So between louis and South Carolina, we gotta get or
drive one of them.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
No, no, no, we don't have to get those two.
If we get those two, now we have a special season.
Now were eight and four? If we get those two
games were eighting four.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
Those are van House thoughts and van House thoughts all along.

Speaker 2 (40:30):
I would like to thank everyone for joining us man,
Thank Bo Robinson for keeping us on, man playing the
platters that matter. Thank Jack Pipergrim from joining us early,
as he always does, give us half a show. Thanks
Van for coming out of the bull pay helping you
boy out Larry Vaught make it back safely.

Speaker 1 (40:45):
We will do this again next week.
