former Husky head basketball coach, twotime Pack twelve Coach of the Year,
(01:07):
has been hired on as an assistantcoach with the Phoenix Suns. Well,
last hour we said that John Rahmwas considering playing but has not yet
pulled out. Well, now he'spulled out from the US Open with his
infected lesion. Honest two, isthere another way to put that out because
I want you to react. NHLStanley Cup Finals, Florida leading the Edmondon
(01:33):
or there's two games tonight after awin yesterday, Game three at Edmonton Thursday
four thirty pre game right here onninety three three. K J A.
R F former Husky and Cougar hooperNoel Williams. How many people you can
say that about will continue his careerat James Madison after sitting out last season.
I feel like there's a couple morethat I'm sure there are, right,
Marv Harshman, coach both teams.Yeah, the list is long.
(01:59):
Yeah, I mean, Scott,I've just liked that Cougar Huskies and anything's
trying to think of hoops. Wellyeah, yeah, basketball. God,
there's gotta be somebody else. Didyou mention the NBA Finals? Yeh,
by the way, okay. NBAFinals. Boston up two games to none
in Game three at Dallas tomorrow atfive thirty news. In the NFL,
Seahawks will have a joint practice withthe Tennessee Titans in Tennessee ahead of their
(02:19):
preseason game on the seventeenth of August. Tyler Lockett apparently is on his way
down as we speak right now.Go join us here on the radio show.
When I move my hands like this, does that drive home the point
even more? Yes, you does. When I speak with my hands and
my UNPOs like that. We'll talkto Tyler about everything happening with him.
I believe, if I'm not mistaken, this is his tenth year in the
(02:43):
National Football League. I am correct, ten years out of Kansas State.
Has been a AP All Pro secondteam player twice in his career. I
believe he's a special teams guy thoughearly in his career back in twenty sixteen
seven. So Tyler Lockett, whohas just turned into mister dependable for this
(03:05):
organization. He's up there with DougBaldwin. Steve Largin is the all time
great wide receivers. When you playten years, obviously, Dick, the
numbers are gonna come. But youknow, you wonder how much longer the
guy wants to do this for he'sa free agent after next season in twenty
twenty five. He's already kind ofbegun the latter stages of his career by
morphing into a real estate business aswell. So Tyler Lockett woul join us
(03:27):
in a matter of minutes here onthe program. Well, I think ring
of honor is absolutely right there forTyler Dockett and he I think, yeah,
that's what I was thinking. Ithink he is barring, you know,
him not playing anymore, which he'snot going to do. I mean,
I think he's got four thousand yardseasons. He gets another one or
even close to a five thousand yardseasons, that's got to be. It's
(03:51):
gotta be second to only larger inthousand yard seasons in Seahawks history. I
would imagine, well, he's numbertwo all time in yards, he's number
two all time and touchdowns, andI think he is number two all time
and reception. So without a guynamed Steve largin. He is, numbers
wise, the second greatest wide receiverthat this football team has ever seen.
(04:12):
And I think there's gonna be amad rush of Ring of Honor inductees in
the next maybe five six years, because everybody from that twenty thirteen team except
for Tyler, except for Bobby Wagnersorry, is done. Yeah, and
Russell obviously you got you got yougot Bobby, and you got Russell because
Lockett didn't show up until the nextseason. So what we're saying is we
got to wait a while for Tyler. I mean, he's gonna get it,
(04:32):
but we're gonna have to wait awhile because we've got a lot of
guys to go in ahead of him. Absolutely, but it's gonna be great,
right, I mean, you're gonnaYou're gonna have names. I mean,
there's a chance that by the timeyou and I are done, when
whenever that is, by the way, you know, thirty five forty years
from now, maybe longer for youthan me, but when we're done,
there might be names all around theinside of that stadium. And that's the
way it should be, right,I mean, you and I Anders doesn't
(04:55):
you know relate to this whatsoever?Because he's like fifteen years old. But
Dick and I, Dick and Igrew up in an era when we would
go to the Kingdome and we wouldgo to the Coliseum for Sonic games and
Mariner games and Sea Hot games ofthe Dome and there was nothing up I
mean, I remember when it wasjust the number twelve was up there because
you only got all this history. You'd only been a franchise for like ten
years, so there was really nobodyto celebrate at that point. But you
(05:18):
know the thing with Tyler and SteveLargen, there's so many there's so many
times, there's so many things thatTyler Lockett does that just makes me think
back of number eighty. I mean, the just the hands in the corner
of the end zone, the abilityto get two feet down unlike any player.
And I think, honestly, Ithink Tyler Lockett is at largent level
(05:38):
at getting two feet down in thecorner of the end zone or on the
sideline. And and you're talking aboutthe greatest guy in NFL history ever to
do it in Steve Largen went bythe time he retired. But you know,
and also two guys that, let'sface it, unheralded, right,
I mean Tyler Lockett was the sixtyninth pick in the draft in the third
round. Seattle actually traded up toget him. And Steve Largent unheralded as
(05:59):
well, two guys that just werethought to be eh, too small,
you know, in Steve's case, too slow, And here they are number
one and number two all time inSeahawk history. Yeah, and two guys
that, you know, let's faceit, I mean they are just pillars
in the community right as far asthe way they represent the franchise. I
mean, you know, I wasstunned as you were when Eugene got busted.
(06:20):
I think all of us were.I mean, the guy was the
man of the year, for God'ssakes. And I mean Lockett's right up
there right along with a guy likeLargent where you would never ever expect anything
from him for the wrong reasons. But I want to ask him about,
you know, playing for Ryan Grubband how much his role changes, if
anything, at all, brand newterminology, all that stuff. I mean,
there's a couple of guys here.I mean Jack Westover, who was
(06:40):
out there running around today, isone of those guys that can actually help
these other players with the terminology. But you know, he's had Darryl Bevill,
he's had Brian Schottenheimer, he's hadShane Waldron, and now he's got
Ryan Grubby. So the guy's hadfour different offensive coordinators so far in his
career, but he's only had onehead coach up until right now. And
(07:01):
from everything I understand, the vibeis great. The transition has been awesome.
I don't hear a lot of peoplethat have negative things to say about
the way McDonald's doing stuff. Yeah, you had the snaffoo or whatever it
was with the pictures out there inthe hallway, But if that's the worst
it gets for this guy, thensign me up, dude. No,
absolutely, And I want to askhim how hard that is to just continually
change because basically every other year hehas had a new offensive coordinator. Now
(07:25):
it hasn't been every two years, been on average, he has a new
coordinator every other year. And andalso we got to ask him about the
McDonald vibe right versus the Carol vibein mini camp though, what what is
the main difference between the two whenyou're going through these camps. Do we
dare talk thunder basketball? When hecomes here with us. That's not and
(07:46):
he's just gonna CRW. Do wecongratulate him on another early exit for his
beloved Oklahoma City Thunder? You thunderhe has for it. He's from Tulsa,
so I get it right. He'soff basketball team, he gets I
mean, at least he claims ithonestly. He is from Oklahoma. So
he is from Oklahoma, right,Yes, he grew up there, He
(08:07):
went to high school there, hewent to College of Kansas State. So
I think we bring it up becausehe's got a lot to crow about him.
Mean, that team might win thewhole thing next year. I know
he's got a lot to crow about, no question about that. But you
know what, the guys, theguy's doing us a favor for God's sakes,
is coming over here and jumping onthe air with us. So maybe
we'll just kind of leave the thunderfair for one segment and just forget about
(08:31):
it and talk some football. BecauseTyler Lockett, who we just got done
looking at the numbers, number twoall time in Seahawk history and yards,
he's shaking his head like he knowshe's not because he knows I'm shaking my
head because he's not here. Okay, Well you know why he got banned
by Carol and McDonald honored it.So he can't he can't come back until
next season. He was he wascaught going through Geno's stuff and they threw
(08:52):
him out of him. Now I'mkidding, Tyler Lockett is with us.
How are you, man? Man? I'm doing good. Are you good
to see you? Number two inyards? Number two in touchdowns, number
two in receptions. We figure yougot to play about three or four more
years to catch largers. What doyou think you want to keep going to?
You catch number eighty one year ata time, one year at a
time. But I will say it'sa blessing going into your team, man,
(09:13):
because when you really think about it, they say that most of our
careers is going to be three anda half. That's the average in the
NFL. And so for me tobe able to go into your teen,
I mean, it's not too manyguys that are still in my class that
are playing at receiver in your ten. So it's truly a blessing just to
still be playing. You know,it's unusual that you get an offensive coordinator,
(09:33):
Tyler, that your fans probably knowbetter than you do when when he
comes into the room. I mean, we've seen a lot of Ryan Grubb
over the last couple years, andwe like what we see. So what
stands out to you about coach GrubbMan? I think I just think he's
smart. Like I mean, ifI could be honest, imagine we're in
high school. He's the ap teacher. Wow. Wow, He's the person
(09:56):
where it's like you go in thereand you're like, bro, I thought
I knew this, but like you'reteaching us this game a whole different type
of way. You're allowing us tosee it a whole different type of way.
He's already like ten steps ahead ofother people. So I mean just
the way that he forecast the offense, the way that he sees it,
the way that he runs it.I think it was amazing when you watch
like everybody that you dubbed, likehow in sync they were, how well
(10:20):
they knew the offense. If everybodydoes their part in really being able to
dial down and learn the offense,I think that we're going to be a
really, really great team because theoffense is really a great offense. Well,
let's talk about that. What doyou want to do this year?
Offensively as a unit that you guysdid not do a year ago. I
(10:41):
mean, I'm one. I thinkit's got to be running the ball.
We got to run the ball better. And I mean when I think about
myself as an individual, because firstI try to look at me right,
because if I'm not doing my part, then I can't get on other people
to do their part. I gottado better. And being able to block.
I think that's one of the biggestthings for me because I know there's
some blocks out there where if Ican get my guy, I know Knon
(11:03):
or Zach is out there, Iknow they're going to score. I know
they're going to get explosive players. We've seen them do it day in and
day out, each and every week. And so for me, I want
to definitely get better in the blockinggame, yep. I want to get
better in the contested catches and justwhen I watch film, I want to
be able to be happy with whatI see when I look at myself,
and so I think that's me lookingat myself in the mirror saying this is
(11:26):
what I want you to do betterat. I want to work on just
being able to catch the ball alot better. Throughout the week. Like
you know, I had to dropout there today in practice. So like
for me, I got to keepmyself accountable because when you're in your ten
sometimes you don't have people that's goingto keep you accountable. Right They're like,
oh, he's the old head,he's been here. Boy, you
gotta be able to steal, findmotivation and still keep yourself going. And
(11:46):
even if you ain't got it,you still got to figure out how to
get it done. So as faras our offense as a whole man,
I just think my biggest thing thatI'm a harp on is just know your
stuff, yep. Because because onceeverybody knows their stuff, I mean,
the quarterback can just play pitch andcatch. He doesn't have to worry about
if we're gonna run the right routeor how we're gonna get open. He
can easily go through his progressions andhe knows that he could let the ball
(12:09):
fly with trust that we're gonna makethat play. Tyler Lockett joining us and
Tyler DK is absolutely unbelievable. Wewatch him with all every single game and
yet we all feel like there's justmore in there. There's more to unlock
in DK do you feel that aswell, and if so, what is
there to unlock and how we getit done? Man. I just think
(12:31):
that when DK gets the opportunity toget the ball in his hands, I
think it's gonna be amazing for everybodyjust to be able to watch, because
he can make any single play.He could run any route that you need
him to run. He can getopen versus man the man if you go
trips right and it's one on oneon the backside, no doubt in my
mind, I know he's gonna beable to get open. I know he's
(12:52):
gonna be able to make the play. Me personally, I just think the
only thing that separates him from allthe other receivers that get most of the
credit is that his targets aren't thesame as all the other guys targets.
And I think if DK gets thosesame amount of targets, I think DK
goes for fifteen hundred seventeen hundred,Wow, because he's that great of a
(13:13):
receiver. I just think that, you know, for us being in with
the Seahaws for so long, we'reall sharing targets and you don't really see
that a lot when you look atother receivers you're gonna have more receivers,
have way more targets than the nextperson. But when you're on a team
that shares the ball a lot andwe run the ball a lot, it
kind of makes it harder to bein those conversations. But I definitely think
(13:33):
that even when you look at thetargets that he had, I think he
played phenomenal. He made plays afterplays, catch out the catch to be
able to help us win games lastyear. And it was really fun to
watch because I saw how much betterhe's gotten. And that says a lot
because he was already really good whenhe came into the league. Well,
Tyler Locket is with us other radioshow, and I gotta tell you,
(13:54):
just sitting down with you, youlook exactly the same as you did ten
years he does you have an agetoday? Man, it's unbelievable. But
do you feel it? Do youfeel being a ten year vet? Do
you need to work on your body, do things differently than maybe you did
when you were twenty two years old? Yeah? Well, I think a
lot of that is I look youngwhen I get a haircut. You just
(14:16):
got a hair Yeah, I gota haircut, So I definitely look young.
But I mean, obviously, whenyou get into your team, man,
like some things do start to changea little bit. But I think
for me, the biggest difference isjust you can't go out there and not
stretch like that. Now you justgot to make sure that you stretch.
It doesn't mean that you're not gonnabe as productive as you used to be.
But sometimes you can go through awhole two and a half hour practice
(14:39):
without even stretching, and you justrun around and you're good. But now
you got to be able to stretchthe bones out, like, be able
to really work on yourself and havelike those things for the first thirty minutes
before practice that you do just toget your body going. So I think
for me it's really no different.I mean, obviously there's some little things
that I want to be able towork on, some things that I can
(15:00):
continue to get better at. ButI mean, like I said, man,
your team comes with new opportunities, comes with new obstacles, but I'm
gonna keep trying to run through eachand every one. Let me ask you
about your other partner in crime outthere, JSN. Tell me about JSN
now and how he's different than whenyou saw him. In mini camp last
year. Man, I think Jsn'shad one of the best offseasons. Just
(15:24):
looking at him in OTA's He's madealmost every single catch that they throw him
the ball. He's gotten open, whether it was short routes, whether it
was mid routes or deep routes.Like he's really in sync with Geno,
and you can be able to tellwhen he's out there running routes, when
he's out there getting open, heunderstands the offense. He's done a really
great job just being able to dialin and hone in on the offense,
(15:46):
understanding his assignments exactly where he's at. And I mean, honestly, I
think even when I watched him incamp last year, you could tell the
reason why we drafted him at firstround, because like he really started to
take off when we were in camp, and it was just unfortunate that,
you know, he had to likekind of sit out for a little bit
(16:07):
because he was really in syncing. He was really taken off. And so
now when I'm comparing how he wasin camp and how he is now,
I mean, you could tell he'staking a huge lead, and I think
he's really like did everything that hecould to be able to be where he
needs to be the offseason. Well, the vibe here for a long time
was pretty obvious, right, Itwas happy, it was positive. There's
(16:27):
a basketball hoop in the team room. But now that's gone. How is
the vibe different with coach Mack andhis staff versus what you saw your first
nine years in the NFL. Imean, you know, it's completely different.
I mean, at the same time, I think that when you look
at coach Mike, you know, this is his first year, but I
think he's doing a great job withgetting all of us to hone in on
(16:48):
structure, being able to get allof us to buy in. I think
that's the biggest thing as a teamand as players and as vets. Number
one is that you got to beable to buy in. And when you
buy in, that's gonna come withadjustments. And sometimes that's hard because when
you're so used to something for howeverlong that you've been with another coach,
it's so hard to do the veryopposite. And so you almost have to
(17:10):
be able to renew your mind andsay, all right, I'm gonna buy
in. And I know this mightbe difficult, but I believe and what
it is that this person is tryingto do and accomplish, right, and
so now we got to get everybodyelse on board. And so I think
everything that they bring is much needed. Yep. I think that. You
know, it is more so likea college structure again, but you know,
(17:32):
I think that that's what we needas a team as structure. Let
me ask you this because you mentionedit was much needed. You're not the
first person that has used those words. Pete was phenomenal, right, greatest
head coach and see ok history andmaybe the best head coach the city has
ever seen in any sport. We'rethings getting a little stale around here.
Nah, I don't think things weregetting stale. I think Pee did a
(17:52):
fabulous job and I think he's anamazing coach, one of my top three
most favorite coaches to be able toplay for get him and coach Schnyder.
I think their structures are different,and I don't. I don't think that
one structure is bad than the other. I just think the thing that I
loved about Pete so much is thathe had this philosophy that was like,
I don't want you to be orconvert into what I want you to be.
(18:15):
I want you to be your bestself. So it doesn't matter how
you are, how you come toplay. I just want to I just
want the best from you. Andso some people are quiet, some people
you know, or jokes, orsome people are super serious. But it
didn't matter. He was like, however you have to be to play great,
I want you to do that. And the structure that he gave came
with a lot of freedom. Butsometimes you want to give players freedom because
(18:37):
they'll show you who you are withfreedom more than structure ever will. And
so you know, it was adifferent type of structure that came with it,
and I think that we did greatwith each and every day now with
Mike, I think that, youknow, this structure is much needed because
even though it's different now, it'smaking everybody have to buy in so much
more earlier. And because this isnew for vets as well as new for
(19:00):
the second year players and rookies,we all got to be able to buy
in together at the same time.Yeah, fifty six games behind Largent for
the most games ever played as awide receiver, but you're only fourteen behind
Baldwin for number two. So goget Doug Man, don't get Doug this
year. Man, Hey, congratulationson all your success, dude. It's
been awesome to watch you grow asa man at a player, and really
(19:23):
impossible. I think Dick would agreefor us to imagine you playing anywhere else
besides right year in Seattle. Sobest of luck this year, Kick asks
fok soon man, thanks so much. Appreciate buddy. Tyler Lockett with us
on the radio show We're Gonna BreakCome back in here from Mike McDonald next
on ninety three to three KJRFM Livefrom the R and R Foundation Specialists Broadcast
(19:45):
Studio. Now back to Saftie andDick on your Home for the Huskies and
the Craken Sports Radio ninety three pointthree kjr FM. All right, big
thanks to Tyler Lockett for Jeff I'mnot on joining us right here on the
radio show. John Wilner will joinus at five. There's a big border
regents meeting dickee U dub I thinkhappening on Thursdays. Look at John's thoughts
(20:08):
on everything happening there over at you, Dub. But great to hear from
Lockett. And just to give youan example of how soft spoken a man
he is, I mean He's awalks softly, carry a big stick kind
of guy. No question. Thevolume control, the input control on his
microphone here at the vMac was turnedall the way up to the top and
(20:29):
it wasn't even redlining. I dothat. This is what it sounds like
right there. That's what it soundslike when I do that. But for
Lockett, it was all the wayup. Man, unbelievable. That's what
I was going to say. Thatis not a problem that we have with
Dave Softy mal er Is, Butyeah, I mean, I gotta be
honest with you. I'm not thebiggest fan of talking to athletes a lot,
(20:49):
because a lot of times you don'tget a lot. Tyler Lockett is
an absolute exception to that, andthere are others, but Tyler Lockett might
be he might be the godfather ofthat on the Seattle Seahawks. I mean,
you can just sit down. Imean Doug Baldwin obviously was like that
when it was the Seahawks. Wejust talked to Doug not too long ago.
I mean, you can just sitdown and have a twenty minute conversation
(21:11):
about anything with Tyler Lockett and it'sinteresting on the air, No question,
think about all those big names inthe locker room back in twenty thirteen to
fourteen, how many guys you wantedto hear from hell the punter and the
kicker, right, Howskin Ryan, two guys you wanted to talk to but
four p thirty one. Mike McDonald, new Seahawks head coach, speaking today,
Dick to the media after day oneof minicamp. Really good practice today,
(21:34):
We're excited for excited tomorrows. It'sgreat to have the whole team,
whole team together and yeah, anotheranother great day in the book. So
looking forward tomorrow, what do youhope to get accomplished? Ur in mini
camp said, maybe you can't getaccomplished in the day. Well, you
know, the tempo is the same. I think, you know, the
whole goal of the whole offseason isreally just establish our foundation. So I
(21:57):
think it's just the opportunity to kindof put next one should point on it.
Uh, the guys have they've guyshave done a great job. Man.
They just they've done everything we've asked. They've responded when we've pushed them,
great attitude, practicing with enthusiasm, were practicing fast practice fifteen minutes.
I had. We finished fifteen minutesahead of schedule today and that's uh,
that's been about part for the course, especially if we're the longer practice.
(22:18):
That was really really cool to see. So uh yeah, I just think,
you know, stamp the whole thing. What's been the idea behind all
the eleven on eleven stuff that we'veseen? I don't I don't know.
It's not that different from from whatI'm used to and what we're what we're
shooting for me. There's a lotof group periods. I mean, there's
a lot of concept periods we're justsplitting up. We designed practice so you
know, it kind of handles theload that way. But we're trying to
(22:41):
introduce into a lot of situation workand understand you know, like they're kind
of trying to play within the contextof the game. So all those things
are great to teach off of,and you kind of just hit all the
situations that way rather than kind of, you know, tailoring it to a
certain thing. Yeah, you havereal refs out there right now. So
yeah, yeah, we had wehave a real crew in and a couple
other guys. They'll be in throughtoday and tomorrow through through camp and uh,
(23:06):
you know, we'll have our officialsmeeting tomorrow with the team and go
over the new rules, and soit'll be a it's a good experience.
We'll learn a good good amount ofstuff. Joint practice. It's tights,
just announce today. What do youlike about doing that? Well, there's
a lot to like about it.I mean, you're with a team that
you know, you respect their operation. We know a lot of the coaches
over there, how they operate, and really it's just it's an opportunity to
(23:27):
kind of put it in a settingwhere you can control the tempos, control
the drills, get some high intensityfor the guys so they're ready to roll.
Come, you know, come, you know the opener time, and
uh, it's just easier a littlebit control true game reps, you know.
And we're still working through who's gonnaplay in the preseason and for how
much. But it's a great opportunityif you do it the right way,
(23:49):
to get some really good competition inand sharpen each other and try to get
ready for the regular season. Mostsummer in Bottle Uns, they did it
just about just about every season thatI was there. Again, you've had
some great experiences, whether you withwhen you when it's handled the right way,
and then some not as great, you know, to put it politely.
(24:12):
So it's really, you know,it's really about you know, controlling
the environment. Guys, understand whatthe you know, the spirit of the
whole thing is about. And Ibelieve, you know, we'll be able
to get that done. We'll bewith the right team. Did you have
some ties with Tennessee at all thatmade it come together? Well, we've
played against Brian for the years.Dinar Wilson's their defensive coordinator, was with
us last year, so that's reallywhere the tie ended. And then it
(24:33):
was an opportunity for the kind ofget away as a team during camp.
I mean, it's hard to goagainst yourself all the time, you know,
especially all the way through OTA.So it'll be good to see another
offense, and for our offense, would be good to see another another kind
of see what they're running on defense. So it's just good to see different
styles and for us to be asa team and get away a little bit
and and have some some team buildingas well. We talked to Lake and
(24:55):
almost to thank you for practice.Lake and let's see brought to you guys,
back president since the players. It'sit's it's great signing. It's a
great signing. I mean he's he'sgonna be no leadership team. Uh.
Kind of hits you right between theeyes communication wise, which is, you
know what we're asking for. Bringsa brings a veteran presence to our offensive
(25:17):
line, some poise. Guys hasseen a lot of ball, been a
different lot of systems. So veryexcited about having Lincoln on our own line.
How many guys are any relationship team? Uh nine, What are you
seeking out of them? What's what'sthe Yeah, it's it's a it's an
opportunity to just open the channels ofcommunication and where we can bounce ideas off
one another, and uh, theycan be a conduit to the locker room
(25:38):
and from our messages coaches out tothe rest of the team, and then
if there's something going along with theteam that we need to know about,
we can have those conversations. SoI mean that that goes for the whole
team. But it's just an opportunityto kind of shrink the sample size,
so to speak, and you know, build that relationship and then we kind
of afford the message, you know, throughout the whole building. So we've
(25:59):
got a great group. What traitswhen you seek and when you put this
time, well normal normally it's somesort of veteran presence and guys that uh,
you know, have a lot ofrespect throughout the throughout the team,
Guys that have you know, stackeda lot of great performances on the field.
Can't be one thing, Greg, you know, it's just you know,
coaches influence guys that you know, guys opinions of the of the guys
(26:19):
throughout the team, and you know, it's it's a pretty cool thing to
be a part of in your building. The team culture of how important is
it for you to let the teamitself kind of create its own culture.
Boy talked a little bit about that. I mean, it's it's incredibly important.
I mean the you look at championshipteams throughout any sport and I think
most of them our player run,you know. So if we can if
(26:41):
we can communicate the standard and allbuy in and guys start kind of pushing
that and holding each other accountable ofwhat we expect on the field and in
the locker room and as a team, then I think that's when you're really
cooking with gas and then we're youknow, we're not there yet, but
I think we're on our away andI really believe we got the right guys.
Well, I look at McDonald alreadycalling media members by their first name.
How about that? Greg? Idon't know, Greg. What do
(27:03):
you think, Craig? What's yourtake? Greg? He's been here for
five seconds, he's already going afterGreg Bell. I love it. Good
for him. You know, Iwas talking to you know, Dave Pearson,
who's the PR guy here at theat the Seahawks, anything else,
that's the guy, right, Anduh, both of us agreed. If
you did not know that McDonald hadnever been a head coach before, you
would think this guy's a five orsix year veteran. Absolutely, there's no
(27:26):
question about it. I mean,I at least at the college level,
right college head coach. I mean, he just he seems to command the
room. I mean, I justthink. Let me let me ask you
guys this question. Do you believewho do you believe has the better chance
of winning a championship this year? The Seahawks are the Mariners. I'd say
(27:49):
probably the Mariners. Yeah, soabout how much more? How much more?
Like two times more one or ahalf times. How much of a
gap do you think there is betweenthe Mariners and the elite of the America.
That's basically what I'm asking, andthe gap between the Seahawks and the
elite of the NFC, because Ithink the gap with the Seahawks and the
elite of the NFC might be closerthan the gap because the Mariners and the
(28:14):
and the Orioles and the Yankees andthe Guardians in Kansas City. I have
a tendency to agree with you.And the reason I brought it up is
that right now in Vegas, rightthe Mariners have almost a five times better
chance of winning the World Series thanthis year. The Seahawks are seventy five
(28:37):
to one to win the Super Bowl. The Mariners are sixteen to one to
win the World Series. And thatlike, my brain doesn't won compute a
Seahawks team seventy five to one,and my brain doesn't compute a Mariners team
sixteen to one either. Well, first of all, I can't believe that.
I cannot be believe it. Checkedit today on Fox two. That's
(28:57):
just a reason to use that dryI cannot with which I love, But
uh, yeah, I mean you'retalking about I. I I think sometimes
Vegas gets a little caught up inthe narratives, and that is that,
Hey, Pete Carroll's gone, right, Pete Carroll's gone. Things maybe different
in Seattle. The defense is kindof getting busted down to its studs.
(29:18):
There's a there's a bunch of guyson this defense. I think that not
a lot of people know a lotabout. I mean, honestly, their
their strength is it the secondary, the defensive line, the linebackers. We
know it's not the linebackers. Thelinebackers right now are a bunch of no
names from nowhere, you know, for now. We'll see about Dotson and
Baker when it's all said and done. But I don't know what the strength
of that defense is, Guys,I have no idea, and I have
(29:41):
no idea who their best player is. You think whether Spoon is their best
player? Is it gonna be?Is? Is Byron Murphy gonna be that
good in year one where he popsand he's a star? Is just just
does Draymond Jones now take off becauseByron Murphy's here? I mean, honestly,
to me, there's more questions nowon defense than there is an offense,
and that's normally not in the case. But if you can get the
twenty twenty two Turek Wollan in thetwenty twenty three Devin Witherspoon, does that
(30:07):
feel like a big ass? Though? Maybe? Yes, what happened to
Treke woman? That's the question.I mean, maybe maybe that's it.
Maybe that's it. Maybe the rawnessthat that Hugh Millan told us about from
day one finally started to rear itsugly head because teams scouted him. Right,
you got you got, according tohum Millon, the greatest defensive mind
walking planet Earth right now, evenbetter than Pete Carroll, even better than
(30:30):
Wade Phillips, right, even betterthan who's the Steve Spagnola with Kansas City.
So if you've got that, thenyou should have an easier time getting
that Tarik Wolding back this year asopposed to the guy we saw a year
ago. We've gotta break textimonials fournine, four five one. A Telemore
Dude text line coming next, andthen John will are gonna join us at

Suesday. Some person's birthdays you inthe eleventh, two, Thy twenty four,
(31:22):

(31:45):
my kids gave me for breakfast thismorning on Twitter. I don't It's a
treat, a maple bar an oldfashioned and they drizzled them all in chocolate.
Searle. I don't see I don'tsee the problem at all. I
don't see the issue. I waslike, Oh, do you guys not
want me to make fifty one?Is that the Are you sending me a
message? Here? Kids? Youranniversary gifts some paddles by the way,
(32:07):
with your wife. Happy birthday toDick Fase fifty years old. Days he's
celebrating by working with us here onthe road in the storm game? What
got a boss do we have? Not giving you the day off on your
fiftieth birthday for crying out loud? All right? Here we go four nine,
four to five? One, tellthem more? Do text line?
When it's game? Timing is indeedTully time? Ander? Is it?
(32:30):
Boy watch? What do you got? The Dupodo plan in a nutshell?
Do just enough to keep job andtease a good team. Maybe in another
ten years another playoff or two. What a great job he's done. You
know it's crazy, man, We'resitting here, We're talking about the Brian
wu injury. He's gonna have anMRI, You got scratched from tonight's game,
all these other issues that are lookedat as negatives, and we keep
(32:52):
forgetting their five and a half gamesup in eight games over five hundred.
I know, it's amazing. Idon't know if the fan base has ever
been this less excited about a baseballteam that's five and a half games up
on June eleven. I think it'sI think it would be similar to a
football team that was like seven andsix or seven and five, two games
(33:15):
up in their division, and theyhad the number three defense in the NFL
and the twenty ninth ranked offense, and they were just boring as crap to
watch week in and week out,and they won thirteen to ten or they
lost thirteen to ten, and Ithink we'd just be in November going okay,
cool. I mean, I thinkit's the same, right. But
(33:37):
isn't baseball one of those sports whereboring is okay? Just win? Who
cares why you win? Right?Like in football, you want to be
elite and dominant at something and ridethat to a title. I mean,
obviously, these guys we think areelite starting pitching. They're getting banged up
a little bit, but we thinkthey're elite starting pitching. So I mean,
you guys agree with that that thisfan base is is not they should
(33:59):
be thrown right now and they're not. Yeah, I'm one hundred percent with
you. I I kind of madea conscious decision to kind of try and
get behind this team instead of pointout every single flaw. Oh good for
you. Yeah, why had Igone backwards then? Anders? Because I've
spent the last three years doing exactlywhat you're talking about, and now I'm
just like, because you're officially anold crank, That's what it is alright,
(34:23):
what's next? Anders? Is thereany chance they scratched because they're cooking
up a trade involving him. You'rean idiot. You don't face Randy Rose
Arena. Hey, Randy Roseorana gotscratched today early. Yeah, so you
know they did say he's getting anMRS that was requested by the AM.
(34:44):
So I do not think that's what'shappening. I thought that at first maybe
it was possible, but not afterthe Scotch Service comments about him getting an
MRI. All right, Andrews, what's there if you fix this offense,
you don't need five top line starters. Move Hancock as part of a package
to make the line up better, and then take your chances on that fifth
Dyn You're one through four and arestill really good, and imagine what they
(35:04):
could do with some run support.Okay, that sounds good in theory.
They've been trying to fix the offensefor how many years now around Seattle a
lot? So is it is itmore likely that they fix the offense or
more likely that the offense continues tosputter and they have to rely on great
starting pitching. Yes, totally, absolutely, the latter. The defense is
(35:25):
stunk for twenty years. Man.Every now and then there's a pop here
and there, but for the mostpart, you can't score runs in Seattle.
We know that because of the parkand May this year. Well,
I mean maybe you're incompetence one orthe other. Yeah, but the numbers
say their offense is at least okayon the road and it's just miserable at
home. All right, what's nextregarding NBA expansion Remember Baltimore lost their team
(35:51):
and then watch two expansion teams goto different cities. Yeah, look,
I mean again, I would beI'll say stuff, I'll be stunned if
they announced that expansions coming and we'renot a part of it. But I'm
like Andrews, there's a one halfof one half of one percent of me
that is just my my right fistis just coiling and just turning into a
(36:15):
haymaker to punch this thing through awall. If they announced that we are
not getting the NBA. So Iwould be very, very surprised, But
I'm just preparing myself for the potentialletdown, which I don't think is gonna
happen. To answer that text, though, did Baltimore have the Lywikis and
the Bonderman's and a building built forthe NBA. And if we probably also
(36:37):
didn't have the commissioner talking about itfor years, they also had I mean,
when did Baltimore leave the NBA?Where did they leave? Because they
also had they also the Bullets tooin Washington, right, I mean I
had a franchise. It was rightthere. And remember for years and years
and years that was Peter Angelos's complaints. He didn't want another team moving into
his territory. And finally they squatchedthat and they gave Washington, DC,
(37:00):
you know, backup baseball team. But you got you got nothing above Portland.
You got this entire region, right, you got Washington, you got
Idaho, you got Montana, yougot British Columbia. There's literally there's nothing
there for the NBA. It's itis a big giant donut of NBA basketball
that's gotta be filled, all right. Four fifty five John Wilner is gonna
(37:21):
join us. Coming up next weeklyvisit courtesy is simply Seattle right here on
ninety three three KJRFM
