in the arenas, I mean, the stadiums have been just awesome,

destroy all their pitchers like they normally do.

we have a rivalry with them because we played them
in the ALCS a couple times, and we played them
in the Division Series like forty years ago, so we
think we have a rivalry. They got no idea who
we are, but we rack of them as a rival.
But we're kind of pulling for you guys, you know.
I mean, Freddy Freeman has been fun to watch, and man,
there's one thing that I always think about when I

watched Freddy Freeman play. That guy's got some big white teeth.

not Seattle actually throws it a lot because they're down
a bunch, and that's the only reason why they do.

right there. Geno Smith has thrown the ball one hundred
and sixty five times in the second half versus one

inflated because they do throw the ball so much in

And the difference when you really kind of break it down, like,
for example, like do you think the Houston Texans are
having a pretty good.

Yes, for six and two, So the Seahawks are averaging
one more pass per quarter than the Texans are one
and that could come on third and two, could come
on second and ten whatever, three point six passes per
game more than the Texans twenty nine more passes overall.

All it takes is for one or two extra here
or there to pop up the numbers. What I'm hoping
is that as the year goes by, Kenny Walker gets
more involved, the offensive line gets healthier, those numbers start

Playing with the lead in the fourth quarter, right and
they're not tossing the ball around one hundred times in

me to throw out, you know, some of the garbage
time plays. So the first thing I looked at was
pass rate over expected. There's actually a stat that analyzes, well,
it could be. I mean, I'm just I'm just telling
you what. I'm telling you the stats that I found.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
So what are we trying to accomplish here?
Speaker 7 (20:59):
Though we're trying to we're trying to isolate whether or
not Seattle actually throws it a lot because they're down
a bunch, and that's the only reason why they do.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
They are they running because they're winning, or a team's
winning because they're running.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
That's right.
Speaker 7 (21:12):
Neutral down situations as determined by this you know, overlord
that does these nfls to say six, Seattle throws four
point six more percent more than expected.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Who's who's expecting it? David expected? You're gonna get the website.
I mean, I'm just trying. I'm not trying to just

Speaker 3 (21:32):
Just help me. Humor you, Okay, God a smart ass here, because.

You're gonna question every single one of these stats. Who
expects it? I am not going to give you right now.
I'm not going to give you any of my opinions.
I'm just gonna give you. Okay, you already know my
opinion of this. He throws it way too much. Okay,
they throw it four point six percent more than they
be expected would be Second is Cincinnati at three point nine, So.

It's quite a big gap.
Speaker 7 (22:00):
It's almost a full percentage point gap over the second
place team.
Speaker 8 (22:03):
All right, Gino.
Speaker 7 (22:05):
By the way, when there is one, two or three
yards to go for a first down. He only has
a passer rating of seventy five. It's just worst passer
rating of any distance. So when they're in situations where
they could pass or run, they have been Gino has
been very, very ineffective.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
So, for example, throwing on those Gino.
Speaker 8 (22:28):
Has been very ineffective on those situations.
Speaker 7 (22:31):
Passing inside the opponent's ten yard line, Gino is three
of fifteen on the season for twenty three yards. He
has been incredibly inefficient throwing the football inside the ten
yard line. When leading, he's got a ninety eight passer
rating and he's sacked.
Speaker 8 (22:51):
Only one of every twenty attempts.
Speaker 7 (22:52):
When he's trailing, the passer rating goes down to eighty nine,
and he's sacked on one of every fourteen.
Speaker 8 (22:58):
Attempts instead of one every twenty times. Now here's where
it gets interesting.
Speaker 7 (23:02):
I divided up between first half passes and second half passes.
I went with pass plays called because you got to
you gotta take Gino dropbacks, and Gino runs as a
pass play called right because I don't think Gino's running
any design quarterback draws maybe one or two. Yeah, okay,
first half one hundred and forty six pass plays have
(23:23):
been called. This is before any game gets out of hand,
one hundred and forty six pass plays called. Meanwhile, ken
Walker has run it thirty four times, Zach Charbonay has
run it twenty four times.
Speaker 8 (23:34):
That's fifty eight runs for.
Speaker 7 (23:36):
Those two players versus one hundred and forty six pass plays.
This is first half only before it gets out of hand.
Second half, obviously the number goes up a little bit.
One hundred and eighty six pass plays called ken Walker's
run it forty times, by the way, for a much
better percentage, so I wear yards per carry. I will
say both Charbonay and Walker run the ball better in
(23:56):
the second half than they do in the first half.
They have had a tough time getting the run game
going in the first half. That doesn't mean they have
to need to go away from it, though, so Walker
ran it four times forty times in the second half,
sharbon A thirty four times.
Speaker 8 (24:08):
Which is also interesting.
Speaker 7 (24:10):
Sharbon Ay has run the ball almost as many times
as ken Walker in the second half the season.
Speaker 8 (24:15):
There's only a six carry difference.
Speaker 7 (24:17):
That to me is unbelievable because, as Hugh says, ken
Walker is massively better than Zax. Right, So is that
total carries Dick total carries in the second half Walker
forty three.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Yeah, But Walker's been out for like what three games
he missed.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
He missed two games he was sick against Atlanta, but
he missed a couple of games he was he was
playing hurt early in the year.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
Whatever.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
He was down so much against Buffalo, they I think.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
I think for me, the point is this is that
I think that they do throw the ball a little
bit too much. But I also do think that we
have to look at a lot of other variables that
are explaining why they're doing what they're doing. For example, Uh,
and you kind of mentioned a few of those numbers
right there. Geno Smith has thrown the ball one hundred
and sixty five times in the second half versus one

hundred and thirty seven times in the first half.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Right, He's thrown ninety nine.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
Passes in the fourth quarter, which is by far and
away his most.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
Right, which is why I threw that out ranking at
the first.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
But when you look at all of the numbers overall,
I think a lot of the Seahawks passing numbers are
inflated because they do throw the ball so much in
the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
He's thrown the ball almost one hundred times in the
fourth quarter in eight games.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
And the difference when you really kind of break it down, like,
for example, like do you think the Houston Texans are
having a pretty good.
Speaker 5 (25:28):
Year right now?
Speaker 4 (25:29):
Yes, for six and two, So the Seahawks are averaging
one more pass per quarter than the Texans are one
and that could come on third and two, could come
on second and ten whatever, three point six passes per
game more than the Texans twenty nine more passes overall.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
And that's all that takes.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
All it takes is for one or two extra here
or there to pop up the numbers. What I'm hoping
is that as the year goes by, Kenny Walker gets
more involved, the offensive line gets healthier, those numbers start
to come down.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
The Seahawks are.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
Playing with the lead in the fourth quarter, right and
they're not tossing the ball around one hundred times in
the fourth quarter, because I'm with you. If those numbers continue,
that means the Seahawks are likely playing from behind a
lot and they're losing rights right now.
Speaker 7 (26:11):
The one thing I appreciated about what the Huskies did
this week is that Jonah Coleman was just as ineffective
in the first half running the ball first quarter, but
in the first quarter quarter as ken Walker has been.
But Jedfish did not give up on Jonah Coleman, and
he ended up with a nineteen carre or was it.
Speaker 5 (26:29):
Nineteen Nimes years?
Speaker 3 (26:30):
Like one hundred and nine yard Here's the key, though,
they lost the game.
Speaker 7 (26:34):
I understand that, but they're not always going to win
the game by by devoting into the runa sure, But again, I.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
Mean I feel a little weird pulling numbers from a
game that my team lost and saying this was a
good approach. I'm just talking about the philosophy. Yeah, the philosophy.
Carried the ball nine times in three quarters is what
he did. He had three three carries per quarter the
rest of the way. I mean, nobody's expecting forty carries
a game, but he had ten carries in the first
quarter and they lost the game. I mean, part of

this is because they can't get off the field. Are
the part of the because they were just weren't playing good.
They were drys were stalling out. I just think again
that in the end, the question is why are they
doing what they're doing.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
Is it going to work long term?
Speaker 4 (27:15):
And if they start to win, excuse me, get a
lead in the fourth quarter, will those numbers start to
come down? Like, for example, Patrick Mahomes, Gino Smith has
thrown one hundred and sixty five passes in the second half.
Patrick Mahomes has thrown half as many in the second half.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
He's half as many eighty six.
Speaker 8 (27:33):
But they're not because mc cain say's I'm in milking
big league.
Speaker 4 (27:36):
They're still winning games though they're fighting a way to
grind it out and win games. Baker Mayfield has thrown
one hundred and twenty four passes in the four in
the second half, Kirk Cousins one hundred and thirty, Jared
Goff's thrown ninety four, Josh Allen has thrown ninety eight.
Speaker 8 (27:49):
So what's our difference of opinion.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
I don't think there is a big difference of opinion.
I think the big difference of opinion is why are
they doing what they're doing? Are they Are they doing
it because they're because they're throwing the ball too much
in the first half.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
I don't think they are.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
I think they're trying to be as balanced as they
can and they fall they find themselves falling behind. One
thing I do find interesting is that all the conversation
right now about the Seahawks seems to be about their offense.
Nobody's talking about the defense. That's fair, and I mean
the defense. The offense Gino Smith falls on his ass
on fourth down and the defense promptly allows a ninety
three yard drive for a touchdown.
Speaker 7 (28:22):
Yeah, the defense has been just as frustrating as the offense,
especially over the last this last game.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Absolutely all right.
