Speaker 2 (00:01):

Speaker 3 (00:05):
As part of our non stop coverage of the NFL,
this is Softy's weekly visit with Kevin Harlan.

He's a bulldozer. He's a beast, brought.

of the Northwest.

Speaker 4 (00:18):
He was like that pincall banging off, buddy.

Come down to the beautiful EQC Sportsbook to bet, watch
and win all season log.

Speaker 4 (00:28):
If the touchdown is the touchdown, it's graphite purse.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
On Sports Radio ninety three point three KJR FM, de
bank is.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Calvin Austin and about the forty for the Steelers. Giants
will punt it with man Hawk back pettling and looking
into the lines of the twenty seven yard line. Austin's
got it runs from the near side of the field
of the far breaking the tackle thirty part sideline, forty
part sideline, fifty flags down.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
He's have a thirty got a back thirty far sideline,
twenty ten chase to the fight touchdown, have a pup return.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
For the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Here seventy four yard return to take the lead.

Speaker 6 (01:06):
I want to call right there by our guy every
single Wednesday right here on ninety three to three kJ AARFM.
We are just unbelievably lucky to have what I would
call one of just the great communicators in the sports
play by play business. Really, just a pioneer and a
guy who's busting his ass coast to coast, state to state,

(01:26):
time zone to time zone, all courtesy of the Ameral Quincas. See,
you know the NFL in Westwood won the NFL and
cbsur buddy, Kevin Arlin, how are you nice?

Speaker 7 (01:35):
Thank you very much for this kind words. Good to
be on with you, Dave.

Speaker 8 (01:39):
And I was a little surprised by your score with
the Bills this Test week. And I've got the Bills
Sunday against Miami. They've got great momentum, the quarterback is
playing lights out. Amari Cooper certainly helps him. But I
didn't see that kind of game coming for the Seahawks
quite frankly up there.

Speaker 6 (01:59):
Yeah, they just got destroyed obviously, just could not really
do much offensively. You know, they could not score in
the red zone. They had all kinds of wacky stuff
had a snap go over Gino's head, stepped on the
center's foot on fourth down and just turned the ball over.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
But I don't know.

Speaker 5 (02:15):
Four and four.

Speaker 6 (02:16):
They're Seahawks fans. Some of them are a little panicky
in the streets about Ryan Grubb and and Mike McDonald
the future of the team or these guys really the answer?
Why don't you kind of talk to that segment of
the fan base that's a little bit on edge right now?

Speaker 8 (02:30):
Love your coach. I think I think Grub is the
right guy that whole division. Three of the four teams
or four and four, yep, that's the NFL. I think
I think you go. If you can get through Thanksgiving
and be five hundred, yours is in good as shape

(02:51):
is anybody except maybe the Chiefs, maybe Detroit, just a
few select teams. Right around five hundred after Thanksgiving is
a good place to be. And listen, I don't know
that a lot of people had you pegged to go,
you know, much above five hundred this year, And I
think I think you're kind of right on schedule, quite frankly.

(03:12):
First year coach, new system, new voice, new coordinator, new scheme.
You know, a lot going on there clearly. So I
say you take it and say born for good. Some
of the games we've won, yep, maybe we shouldn't, you know,
some of the games we've lost. Kind of rub your
hands together. But I think FOREI and four is fine.

Speaker 6 (03:32):
Well, I gotta be honest with you. I wasn't planning
on talking about the Bills game to start this off.
I'm trying to kind of forget what I saw on
Sunday to be honest with you.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
But I I just.

Speaker 6 (03:41):
Want people to know what you're up to, because your
schedule right now is just silly. I mean, listen, young man,
You're not sixty five years old anymore, all right, and
at some point you got to just pick and choose
the games and slow down a little bit. I'm calling you.
You're on a plane, You're heading to Kansas City. You're
on the road from the NBA going back.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
To the NFL. What is your last week and a
half look like? Man?

Speaker 7 (04:05):
Uh? It was.

Speaker 8 (04:06):
It was pretty pretty challenging, quite frankly, but I said
to my wife that that this is this is the
worst two weeks of the of the year in terms
of just a lot of travel. And we were in
Vegas doing the Chiefs on Sunday. Flew to Detroit that night,

(04:26):
so at least they get halfway to Pittsburgh and slept
at the Detroit.

Speaker 7 (04:31):
Airport and then flew.

Speaker 8 (04:33):
Uh, I'm flewing the Pittsburgh day to that game Monday
night and then early flight to San Francisco on Tuesday.
Did the game last night. And that came off the
two games in the NBA last week in Boston and
in Dallas.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Wow.

Speaker 7 (04:48):
After the game.

Speaker 8 (04:48):
In Tampa on on and I don't even know where
my Monday, where my Sunday game was before that. It
was a challenging couple of weeks. But always enjoy it.
I'm not sixty five, by the way, I'm sixty to
just make sure we got the numbers correct. I'm definitely
in the fourth quarter, but still enough energy to get

(05:10):
through that week. And there are a couple like that
that the tournament's tournament in the NCAA tournaments a little bit. Yeah,
rug it, but you enjoy it. We enjoy your job
sometimes that the time flies. That's literally and figuratively, well, yeah,
is how it's been over the last two weeks.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
You're an animal, There's no question about that.

Speaker 6 (05:27):
Kevin Harlan's with us on the radio show, and why
don't we just go back to Monday night, the Pittsburgh
game against the Giants. Russell Wilson does it again. I
got in the car and heard your call of his
fumble and then heard TJ. Watt get the ball back
either a play or a couple of plays later. But
I don't know, man, it kind of feels like the
Russell Wilson comeback train has left the station.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Man. The hype is not out of control.

Speaker 8 (05:52):
Yeah, you know, he's got a great voice in his
head with Mike Tomlin and Arthur Smith is their offensive coordinator,
and he's done a great job with both quarterbacks, both
him and Justin Fields. And they may have the best
quarterback situation aside from the Chiefs in the NFL. They've
got a quality backup. Russell is clearly the choice. He

(06:15):
looks he looks different, quite frankly, than he did in Denver.
I don't know, you know, you know, Pete had away
handling him up there. Sean Payton's is a He's a
tough one. He demands a lot and sometimes that resonates
and sometimes it doesn't. And I just don't I think

(06:35):
from the beginning. Russell felt like it was and maybe
Sean felt this way too, like it was not the
match that you would draw up on paper. You know,
Russell was there before Sean was in Denver, it just
never took hold. Right Now, he goes to a place
that wanted him, with the coach that wanted him, and

(06:57):
they're a mature team and they're ready to go, and
he's the right quarterback at the right time. He's doing
everything they need him to do. And I just think
his body language, his demeanor, his pocket deportment, everything about
what he's doing on and off the field just feels
like the right fit for him at this stage of

(07:18):
his career.

Speaker 6 (07:19):
No, there's no doubt, and it kind of feels like
Tomlin played this perfectly that Hey, let's just make sure
everybody knows what Justin Fields is all about. Show that
what he's all about, and then bring in Russell and
there's no controversy whatsoever.

Speaker 7 (07:34):
You nailed it. That's exactly what it is.

Speaker 8 (07:36):
You can always you can always go back to Fields
if something happens. And he had five touchdowns and one interception.
He led him do a nice record four and two.
Russell naw has come in. They've won two straight with
him as the quarterback, and just their defense is high caliber,

(07:58):
their offense has enough, and they've got the right quarterback.
I mean Pittsford now to me becomes a team with Baltimore,
with Buffalo and clearly the Chiefs to watch and uh
and by the way, Denver, I think Denver's about five
hundred and and they're not too bad with the rookie
quarterback either. They're and the and the Chargers are gonna

(08:20):
are gonna push as well. That coach will not let
them slide. So there are a lot of good teams
to watch in the AFC. For sure, Houston clearly at
six and two, but but they've got to stay healthy,
and it seems like week by week they're losing one
important piece after another. Now I think they're gonna get
Nico Collins back from the IR. They got one game

(08:40):
left then a bye and then I think heat can
come off of ir and and that will help them.
But losing Digs, make no mistake about it, Losing Digs
is a big blow to that offense.

Speaker 6 (08:52):
Well, Denver's Denvers five and three, I mean being pretty
impressive with the that's right, I mean you were close.
You said they're around five hundred, and I guess they're
you know whatever, but they're right career close.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
Yeah, that's all.

Speaker 6 (09:07):
That's all we expect that he is. Just be in
the vicinity and you're fine. Uh, but you're in but
you're in Kansas City.

Speaker 7 (09:14):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (09:14):
Obviously when you're back home and the Chiefs are seven
and zero, they're at home on Monday night right against Tampa. Uh,
Denver's at home in a couple of weeks, maybe you'll
have that game for CBS. Who knows, but I mean
it's unly. Yeah, there you go, so we will know
where will Kevin be for Sunday in a couple of
weeks from now? At what point do people start talking

(09:35):
about this Chiefs team making some history. I know they
got ten games to go, still over half the year,
but you know that fan base out there, Mann, at
what point are people going to start keeping an eye
on the chief schedule and wondering where that first loss
is coming from?

Speaker 8 (09:49):
Well, they gave up Ontom kind of last year, A
lot of the league did. When they're their offense wasn't
doing anything and they were kind of, you know, wandering around.
They did win the division, and and then they got
hot when they us that Christmas Day game to the Raiders.
They went on and rattled off six straight wins, and
now they've got an undefeated record in the seven to

(10:09):
zero after this past weekend in Vegas. And I guess
when you see that record, you're expecting a lot of fireworks, right,
You're saying, Wow, this offense, Mahomes, they must just be
blistering opponents. Well that has not been the case, but
they played winning football. In fact, they're the poster child

(10:29):
right now probably for playing complimentary football. Their kicking game
is terrific. They at the number one punter, They got
a kicker in Bucker who second to none in the league.
Their defense is highly ranked top five in all the
significant categories. And the quarterback is playing well enough to
win and not costing him with mistakes. And so the

(10:49):
complimentary football that they're doing with all three phases truly
is the hallmark of the season so far. I think
that when Hopkins DeAndre Hopkins, who they got trade last week,
I think when he gets up to speed and he
really is in that playbook and with this team for
a month and after Thanksgiving, I think they're gonna take

(11:10):
off offensively. You know, they've been decimated by a few
other teams have been at receiver, and they lost their
number one running back, but they they have patched up
the running back with the guy they've had before in
Kareem Hunt, who is serviceable to good. He's not the checko,
but he's serviceable to good. They have, they've they've tried
to rebuild their receiving core with the trade for Hopkins,

(11:33):
and I think that's going to prove they've got significant
talent at tight end. Even though Kelsey began the season slow,
the last four games, I think he's now got twenty six,
twenty seven, twenty eight passes, so he is has got
his legs under him. He's in shape, and and he
is he is at thirty five on a historical march,

(11:54):
individually and with his quarterback, as long as the defense
is intact, and it is, and as long as Mahomes
is back there and only getting better. He threw his
first touchdown pass for the months last week in Vegas.
I see that the Chiefs now only becoming better as
it goes on, as opposed to to finding any you know,

(12:15):
speed bumps along the way. They'll they'll have the challenges
for sure.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (12:20):
But but but they're terrific and like we said, the
only unbeaten team in pro football.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Kevin Harlan's with us. Kevin. The Jets have lost five
in a row.

Speaker 6 (12:30):
They're two and six, they're seasons falling apart, obviously. Uh,
they got Houston Thursday night, and then they're at a
better kind of uh you know, uh resurgent Arizona team
a little bit here. I guess my question is, do
you see any possibility Rodgers just shuts this whole thing down?
I mean, if they end up going you know, two
and eight, you know, three and nine, whatever, and they're

(12:50):
just done, you think he'll just shut her down.

Speaker 8 (12:54):
Well, he's got so much guaranteed money coming to him,
and they're on the hook next year for his cap number.
So that's gonna be a significant thing for them to
deal with this and next year. I don't know his
his his game is different. First of all, he's he'll
be forty one in December. He's coming off a torn achilles.

(13:16):
I don't care if for twenty one or forty one,
you don't come back in a year and look the same.

Speaker 7 (13:20):
You just don't like an a C L mcl.

Speaker 8 (13:23):
It just takes time, and he's in that world right now.
Adams will be better as they go along. They got
a first class running back. Their offensive line we knew
it was going to be suspect and it's proven to
be that way. And their defense is just not doing
the job. Gardner is not what he's been at the
corner That was the best tandem, him and him and

(13:46):
Read at those cornerback positions, and they just have not
been great like you would think they would be. So
I don't know, that's a tough situation.

Speaker 6 (13:56):
Well, and how about that Cardinal team. I mean, right now,
they're just tied for first place in the NFC West.
I mean, obviously you know it's a long way to go,
but I mean there were a lot of people over
the offseas. I remember Dick and I Kevin talking about
Arizona that some folks thought they'd be better, and I
was like, based on what they didn't do much over
the offseason. I mean, if you think that Kyler Murray
just takes a step, then I guess fine, But is

(14:16):
this an area. I mean, this is an Arizona football
team that right now, if the playoffs began today.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
They're in and the Niners and Seahawks are out.

Speaker 7 (14:24):
It meant something. I know it.

Speaker 8 (14:25):
I know it. And the Rams are going to get healthier. Yeah,
they're bringing back guys that week after week. They were
so limited in their playbook in LA with the Rams
that Stafford was using about twenty percent of the one hundred.
Now they got in Mikua and they got Cooper cutback
and that changes them. They got the running back, and
they got the QB getting healthier on the line. That

(14:47):
team is going to make a researcher. So keep your
eye on the Rams. I did not see this out
of the Cardinals. I do think Murray Kyler Murray has
taken this season about as serious as he's taken any
seasons were played college or pro. Now. This is a
decorated guy in college and high school, and and his
pro game has been predicated by in the in the

(15:09):
view of some, with not keeping his nose in the book,
not being the most diligent preparer. And I think those
things have changed this year. And he's got the big
contract already, but he seems to be different on the
field and off clearly, and I think that's making a difference.

(15:30):
He's got Connor in the backfield, They've got receiving talent,
and and they just kind of been under under.

Speaker 7 (15:37):
The radar, you know.

Speaker 8 (15:37):
Quite frankly, if you would name any team in the
league aside from Carolina and Arizona, might be that that
one more anonymous team, one of the most anonymous teams
in pro football. There are not a lot of identifiable player,
but a Baker.

Speaker 7 (15:53):
I mean, like they get that.

Speaker 8 (15:54):
They got a couple of Every team's got a couple
of guys that stand out, but the majority of that
team is very cool because they've not been good for
so long, and now at four and four, this is
a team that clearly, you know, you go into Miami
and beat two in his comeback with the Dolphins last week,
that's a big win across the country. That's a huge
win for that team. And and and Jonathan Gannon, they've

(16:18):
really done a.

Speaker 7 (16:19):
Very nice job there.

Speaker 8 (16:19):
I'm I'm I'm I'm about as surprised about the Cardinals
as any team in Pro football. And the quarterback and
the way he's handling himself. I'm glad to see that
that kid's got a ton of talent. Yeah, they don't
have a lot of size, we know that, but he's
got a ton of talent.

Speaker 6 (16:34):
You know, some people might be surprised that Joe Burrow's
leading the league in QBR right now, by the way,
and Jared Goff's like twenty second in the NFL. But
there's a lot of folks talking about Jared Goffer the MVP,
and nobody's talking about Joe Burrow because the Bengals stink.
And there's Mahomes and there's Josh Allen, there's Lamar Jackson.
This feels like is tight at MVP races.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
We've had in a while.

Speaker 6 (16:54):
If I had to pin you down and say, all right,
kind of halfway is point of the year, who's your MVP.

Speaker 8 (17:01):
Well, until they lost in Cleveland, I was gonna say
Lamar Jackson or or or Derrick Henry or one of
the two maybe co MVPs. The way that they were
playing beginning oh and two, then winning four straight, and
and you know, I, I don't know, I don't I.

Speaker 7 (17:17):
Don't know what happened.

Speaker 8 (17:18):
Jameis Winston came off the bench, and finally Cleveland, who
everybody thought going into the season, had the roster. They
people loved their roster and and admittedly it was it
was it was solid. And and now they got a quarterback.
You know, Watson can't can't do it, and he's gone
for the year.

Speaker 7 (17:37):
And Jameis Winston.

Speaker 8 (17:39):
You know, at this stage, he's a veteran quarterback.

Speaker 7 (17:41):
He knows the plays.

Speaker 8 (17:43):
Uh, he's call in the pocket, he's got a lot
to prove. Little chip on his shoulder perhaps, and he
came out there and gave them hope. And in Cleveland
with that roster and now a quarterback, legitimate quarterback, you're
gonna have to watch them. And and Baltimore may have
taken the off the gas a little off this game
against the Browns this past weekend and they got caught.

(18:05):
They dropped a couple of shoe interceptions Hamilton won late
in the game. That would have made such a difference
and closed the book and they would have had a win.
And as it stands right now, you know, Baltimore is
in back of Pittsburgh in that division and Cleveland you
got to keep your eye on them. And then you
say Cincinnati and Burrow has played great, he's healthy and

(18:25):
he's played great. His line's okay, his weapons are there,
but they have no defense. They they've lost so many
important defensive parts. They can't stop anybody on defense.

Speaker 7 (18:37):
So it's like.

Speaker 8 (18:38):
Score US thirty four, get US thirty seven, and we'll
roll the ice. We'll take our chances because their defense
is just so porous.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
They can't be stopped, and you can't be stopped.

Speaker 6 (18:47):
Hardest working man in broadcast radio and TV. Kevin Harley
got Dolphins Bill Sunday, so we won't play. Where will
Kevin be Sunday because we know Dolphins Bill's on Sunday
on CBS. And then you got the game on Monday night.
Back at home with the Bucks and Chiefs in Kansas City.
All right, listen, get home, get your favorite PJS on uh,
get your favorite soup, get in bed, cuddle up, hug

(19:10):
your wife, get your favorite TV show one, get some rest,
and we'll talk in a week, all right, man.

Speaker 7 (19:14):
All right, Dave, thank you so much. Always good to
be out with you all.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
You're the best. Kevin Harlan with us all courtesy the
Emerald Queen.

Speaker 6 (19:21):
We're gonna break a lot more to come from the
five twenty bar and grill here on a Wednesday night
because we're off tomorrow for kracking at three point thirty
and four with Tronto right here on ninety three three KJRFM.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
Live from the R and R Foundation Specialist Broadcast Studio.
Now back to Softie and Dick on your Home for
the Huskies and the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three point
three kjr FM.

Speaker 6 (19:44):
All right, boys and girls, back here on a Wednesday night,
Right here on ninety three three KJRFM live from the
five twenty Bar and Grill and all of you.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
Where do you say?

Speaker 7 (19:51):
We go?

Speaker 6 (19:52):
To Yankee Stadium in New York. Update from the World Series.
Aaron Judge, Yeah, he's back, Baby Small driven the other way,
sleep Pin Shin HEAs again. Aaron Judge with a two
run bomb to right field. Jazz Chisholm follows it up

(20:12):
with a solo shot and the Yankees are leading the
Dodgers three nothing, top of the second in New York.
Thanks to what Joe Davison Fox for for that highlight.
Now we got what we wanted to win last night
to force a game five and give us more baseball.
Remember the Oilers were down three games to none against
Florida and they forced a game seven and lost Game seven.

(20:33):
But what's the uh, what's the pucker? Factor gonna be
if the Dodgers have to take this back to La.

Speaker 9 (20:38):
Yeah, I think the pucker factor going into this one
was near zero. I think the pucker factor ramps up considerably.
I'm going into the next game. Although that's interesting you said,
although they're going back home, so that that certainly helps.
And I think I think for the for the pucker
factor to really be high, though I wouldn't say it's
high going back three two, say it's medium. For it

(21:01):
to be high is if the Yankees jump on the
Dodgers early in game six, Game six, right then, like
if it's like, if it's this game in game six
and it's three nothing, then the pucker factor goes way up.

Speaker 6 (21:15):
So you would have no nervous energy up three nothing.
If you were a Dodger.

Speaker 5 (21:18):
Fan, I would have no nervous energy going into yesterday's game.

Speaker 6 (21:22):
The pucker factor, you said would have been sure. No, okay, yeah, Jackson,
what about you.

Speaker 10 (21:27):
Major major nerves if you're going back to game six?
But like none right now.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
But that's not what I'm asking. I'm asking. I'm asking when.

Speaker 6 (21:32):
It was three nothing, Oh, would the would the pucker
factory even exist?

Speaker 1 (21:37):
Up three nothing?

Speaker 7 (21:37):
No?

Speaker 1 (21:38):
No, no.

Speaker 10 (21:39):
And I was talking to a bunch of friends that
rises obviously Dodger fan from South you know, in LA,
and none of them had any doubt whatsoever. We're taking
this thing home. I'd be just to ask you later tonight.
If the Yankees win.

Speaker 6 (21:49):
This, God, I would have been absolutely crapping myself up
three nothing, because I'm just trained to expect the worst. Yeah,
I I I would have been just dreading everything. Oh
my god, that could be. Please get this done as
soon as possible, because the closer this gets to evening
this thing up three two three three, I would have
had a stroke, man thinking about that. I'm just trying

(22:09):
to think about all the Sonic series back in the
day and how nervous I was, and blah blah blah.
I mean, look, the Maritors haven't played a meaningful five
or seven game series in twenty years, so it's that
whole generation.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
People have no idea you.

Speaker 5 (22:20):
Are nervous three up on the Rockets though when we
swept them.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
I think I was. I think I was nervous. Yes, yes, yes,
I was nervous.

Speaker 5 (22:27):
Were you nervous up to nothing on the Nuggets?

Speaker 6 (22:30):
I think after losing to Denver I was nervous about
everything fair after losing that.

Speaker 5 (22:34):
Series, because I know I wasn't nervous team up and
over down.

Speaker 6 (22:36):
I just I don't know, man, I just feel like
you're just like we're gonna be that one team that's
gonna blow a three nothing lead. Like Jason Starr comes
on the year and says, no, Wow, a card team
or division leaders ever blown a ten game, right, and
then we're.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
The one to do it.

Speaker 6 (22:48):
Yeah, So wet that we ever did make the World
Series and we did get up three to zero, I'd
be literally pooping myself, dreading making the wrong kind of history.
I'd want to wrap it up as soon as possible.
Game four would be a must win for me in
that scenario. You know what, I love what it feels like, Dick, Yes,
I love to know.

Speaker 9 (23:06):
What was incredible was the stat that we read when
the Dodgers went up three nothing that the last nine
three to zero leads in the World Series ended in
a sweep. So the Yankees already got it the massive
trend by winning a game.

Speaker 6 (23:19):
So when was the last one that did not end
in a school I don't know. So the tenth in
that in that in that run you know when that
was fifty years Google machine, Okay, look it up for me.
The same place you're getting all your past run stats.

Speaker 5 (23:33):
That's a special place. So I pay a high subscription
price for that one.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
Really.

Speaker 11 (23:39):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (23:40):
Christian Cable's got a story out on his website about
all the transfers that left you Dub and how they're
doing us as Turner, uh Jabar Mohammad, Jeremy Bernard, Austin
Mack at Alabama, Parker berels for Julius below, Nick Caleppo.
Am I missing somebody else? I'm sure I'm missing a

(24:02):
couple guys right that are on that list. But that's
the meat, that's the big ships. So I asked these
I asked these guys off the ear, who's the one
guy that you would want back from the group of
players that left? Who's the one guy that you would
want back? And it's a hard question for me for
a lot of reasons. Number one, I would typically probably
say one of the offensive linemen. But I think D'Angelo

(24:23):
Tittyli has played Okay, Parker Brelsford, I'm not. I don't
know how he's playing down there. I know a lot
of people think he might be in all the SEC
candidate one day down the road. I know he was
a preseason guy for a lot of websites like PFF.

Speaker 9 (24:35):
He's got a very high pass blocking grade okay, eighty three,
much lower run bock blocking grade fifty seven.

Speaker 6 (24:42):
I'm not tracking how Bilow and Caleppo were doing. Mich
Palace playing a ton for Miami on another national championship
quality type football team. Secondary though, for the Huskies has
been pretty good, right, I think. I mean, we can
talk about Jamar Mohammad back there, but you know, Thaddeus
Dixon had has been good. Uh, Price Sock has been good,

(25:03):
So I think they've been okay. I think it's a
great question.

Speaker 5 (25:06):
It is a great question.

Speaker 1 (25:06):
What would you want back?

Speaker 9 (25:07):
Well, I definitely don't want a defensive player back because
I've said many times I think this defense is better
than last year's defense. So let's just skip over the
defensive players and go to offense. And when you go
to offense, you don't need Jeremy Bernard. As good as
Jeremy is, I mean, you don't need him. You get
wide receivers not your issue on this football team. So
I gotta go to the offensive line and maybe I'll
I'll get your help because you spend more time. You

(25:31):
spend more time breaking down what the offensive lineman of
the Dogs do than I do. So Nate Coleppo Parker
Brails for Julius Bilo, based upon what you've seen this
year from this offensive line, which guy would you want
to plug and play in that?

Speaker 5 (25:48):
Because that's my answers. Whichever you pick up those three guys,
I'll go right Well, it's.

Speaker 6 (25:52):
Gary and Hatchett and uh Enoch versus Bilo and Calepo. Yeah,
I mean, I probably still would take Parker Braills to
be that leader.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
He's the leader, He's the guy.

Speaker 6 (26:03):
I mean, you're still talking about an FCS guy in
tity L.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
I think I would take Parker.

Speaker 6 (26:08):
I think at times Enoch has looked okay and other
times he's looked awful. Sometimes he looks like a guy
that went to Ohio State, and other times he looks
like a guy that can't handle Ohio State. Honestly, Karan
Hatchett's been banged up. He's had a sore back for
like two weeks, three weeks. It's a miracle the guy's
even out there. Hatchett's been all right when he's been
out there, but I think he's the future land and

(26:30):
Hatchet Jed Fish has already said he's the future at center.
You do, but I think for now, for this offensive
line to have a center that started the National Championship
game versus Michigan, I think I would take care.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
I think that's probably take care.

Speaker 12 (26:43):
Don't you agree it wouldn't be a defensive player as
good as Jamar Mohammad are. Yeah, I don't think the
difference between Dixon and Price sock to Muhammad is as
big as the jump from the Angelo to Parker.

Speaker 6 (26:54):
Absolutely, that's what I would think. Jackson, how about you?
Which one would you want back?

Speaker 10 (26:58):
Absolutely, it's the exact reasons you said. And I agree
with Dick too. I just I don't see a player
that makes this Husky team better more than Brailsford because
those defense, yes, they're great players, they're probably better, like
if we're doing overall ratings whatever. Still, this is about
this team and what this team lacks.

Speaker 6 (27:18):
Well, here's the thing, D'Angelo titti Ali is not going
to make first team All Big Ten. Parker Brelsford would
have had a shot to make first team All Big
Techs if he was still the starting center at Washington, right,
I mean there's nobody in this offensive or defensive line
that's gonna even come close to making an All Big
ten type team, and Brelsford would have been that.

Speaker 1 (27:36):
For example, on the All SEC second.

Speaker 6 (27:39):
Team preseason, Brailsford was the starting center in the SEC. Yes,
so if he's in the Big ten, he's got a
shot to be an All Big ten type of guy.
Have you joined the Mario Bailey fame train that this
defense is better than last year? First of all, that
sounds like a segment of Rob Gronkowski's Dudes on Dudes podcast.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
To be totally honest with you.

Speaker 6 (27:59):
The trained second defense, the defense, Uh yeah, no, I
think they're good.

Speaker 1 (28:04):
I think they're I think they're a lot. I think
they're facing lesser offenses.

Speaker 6 (28:07):
Yeah right, I mean last year's team, like I know,
you like to talk about Oregon scored thirty four, thirty six,
whatever it was, but they averaged almost fifty points a game. Yeah,
they held them down. And when you know what hit
the fan? That defense had a clutch, Geen? Does this
defense have that same clutch?

Speaker 5 (28:22):
Geam?

Speaker 9 (28:22):
I think this are gonna get tested on Saturday and
I'm because this is more of the type of offense
that we saw last year.

Speaker 5 (28:29):
Yeah, so this is gonna be a great test for them.

Speaker 9 (28:31):
Can they hold USC in the twenties right, because if
they can, they'll win the football game. Because I think
they'll get to they'll get to thirty against US.

Speaker 6 (28:39):
It's absolutely impossible to not look at the stats on
defense and think they're not better than they were a
year ago. I think they're really, really really missing anything
on their defensive line. That defensive line last year, towards
the end of the year, Braalen Trice was unblockable. Yes see,
there's nobody on this defensive line that even looks like him, nobody.

Speaker 5 (28:55):
And they there's not really a Tully is there?

Speaker 1 (28:58):
No, No, there's nobody there.

Speaker 7 (29:00):
Man.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
This defensive line is good. This defensive line is not good.

Speaker 6 (29:04):
At all compared to what we had a year ago
at the end of the season. I remember that third
down play against Oregon where they ran that stunt with
Brailn Trice and they brought I think it was ZTF
up the gut and Braylan kind of dropped back and
was able to grab Bo Nicks on that big third
down play.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
I just thought.

Speaker 6 (29:19):
I just think they're severely lacking on their defensive line.

Speaker 5 (29:22):
See the rest of it.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
Back seven is good though.

Speaker 9 (29:25):
USC should do what we wanted the Huskies to do
last year to USC, which they did, and that's give
the ball to Dylan Johnson. Right, they need to run
the ball at Washington on Saturday if they want a
chance to.

Speaker 6 (29:36):
K All right, let's get a break, Brian Schmitzer. Is
Jordan Morris playing or is he not? We're not letting
this guy off the hook. Next on ninety three to
three kJ a RFM.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
Live from the R and R Foundation Specialists Broadcast Studio.
Now back to Softie and Dick on your home for
the Huskies and the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three point
three kjr FM. I think's in the hens of s
rolled on, takes a breath, steps forward.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
Back goes the crowdy runs on.

Speaker 9 (30:07):
The Sounders win the first game of the first round.

Speaker 5 (30:13):
Of the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
There you go, here, there you go? Any Jackson? How
about that?

Speaker 4 (30:18):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (30:19):
Sounders got to shootout win over Houston five to four.
H By the way, up they real quick from the
World Series four nothing Yankees right now bottom of the
second fuck doctors, starting to happen.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
Oh dude, I can't even I can't even watch this.
Just how nervous I would be if I were a
Mariner fan and they were this type of freaking game.
I wonder if our next guest is watching the World Series? Brian?
Are you watching the World Series right now?

Speaker 8 (30:41):
I've been keeping track.

Speaker 11 (30:42):
I mean the thing I listen to fans that were
trying to steal the guy's glove and ball.

Speaker 6 (30:47):
I thought, Yeah, what's the craziest thing you ever saw
a fan try and do at one of your games?

Speaker 1 (30:52):
Is there anything that stands out? You remember anything?

Speaker 11 (30:55):
No? Just I mean, I'm flooded with bad memories of
Portland fans giving us the bird and you know, the
who andwiches at Zig one time they were chucking stuff.

Speaker 5 (31:04):
At our bus.

Speaker 11 (31:05):
But wow, you know, nothing crazy like that during the
real game.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
Sandwich that's actually fun.

Speaker 5 (31:10):
Hey, thanks, that's one of those we appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
It's a nice Turkey Swiss sandwich here, all right.

Speaker 6 (31:14):
The first ever penalty shootout win at Liuman in the
MLS era for the Sounders.

Speaker 5 (31:21):
That's incredible.

Speaker 6 (31:22):
How about that on Monday night when your head hit
the pillow? Monday night you went back home with the
wife and you opened up a bottle of veno.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
What'd you think about the performance on Monday?

Speaker 11 (31:32):
Well, I loved it because, yeah, there was that little
bit of subtle pressure I would say about, you know,
going to PK's. But I'm telling you, okay, look, everybody's
making a lot of Christian's goal, you know, the fourth
penalty and Alex coming to clean up the roll. Dane Brothers.
Jackson was good, but I mean Raoul that first, you know,

(31:54):
Chip when he chipped the goalkeeper there for his penalty
kick the Banenka, Uh, that kind of messed with the
goalkeeper's mind. I mean, that messed with Clark's head. He
wasn't even close to any of the other balls.

Speaker 9 (32:07):
Well, you mentioned Christian shot. I don't think an octopus
could have stopped that. I mean, I don't know if
there's anything called a golazzo from a penalty kick.

Speaker 5 (32:15):
But that was about as special as it gets, though,
wasn't it.

Speaker 11 (32:18):
That was sheer class power. He knew what he wanted
to do and he just stepped up there and hit
it as hard as he could in the upper V.
And that was Dick. That was a great peak in.

Speaker 6 (32:30):
Yeah, well, Brian Schmetzer's with us. Jordan Morris came off
early in the second obviously. Let me just ask you
flat out, do you expect him to play this weekend?

Speaker 11 (32:41):
Well, normally I would be coy and you know, try
and go back and forth. But since you're such a
nice guy and I actually have good news. His RI
results came back and there's no significant, significant injury in
his hamstring. He obviously came out out because he felt

(33:01):
some tightness. I'm probably not gonna play him softy, just
out of precaution.

Speaker 7 (33:06):
Wow.

Speaker 11 (33:06):
But he'll be ready for the third game if we
need it, and he'll be ready for the remainder of
the playoff playoffs if we can get through.

Speaker 6 (33:12):
Okay, So wait a minute, So you're probably not gonna
play him just out of precaution. How what would you
need to see between now and Sunday? Because you could
wrap this up on Sunday, Like we're sitting here watching
the World Series thinking, hey man, maybe the Yankees win,
they forced a Game five, they give us some extra baseball.
You gotta be careful what you wish for. You want
to end this thing as soon as possible. So is

(33:34):
it possible that you could see something with him that
would have you change your mind by Sunday.

Speaker 1 (33:39):
And what is that.

Speaker 11 (33:41):
If it was a miracle, a Halloween miracle and he
got up one day and you know just said, hey, coach,
you know what, I feel great. And we give him
a test on the field and he passes any sort
of physical testing, then yeah, sure, I'm not gonna. I'm
not gonna, you know, say no. But at the end
of the day, you know, look, Raoul's been training well,

(34:03):
and you know, I'm confident in the squad. That's it's
it's it's a good team, and we're gonna we're gonna
go to Houston, not just to play the game.

Speaker 9 (34:11):
Softy, Well, let's talk about Raoul then, how does that
change what you do offensively?

Speaker 5 (34:16):
He's certainly a different player than Jordan.

Speaker 11 (34:19):
Yeah, just look, he's not going to stretch the field
like Jordan does. So you know that's why I brought
on when I when I brought Raoul on. You know,
it's unfortunate I took Day la Vega off, but we're
going to try and play with two wingers. You know,
get guys out wide that can get up and down
the field. In a hurry and try and get good
service to Raoul because inside the box he's a killer.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (34:40):
Brian Spetzer's with us here on the radio show Sounders
Dynamo on on Sunday. Would you say Jackson three o'clock pregame?
Is that correct? Over on nine to fifty am on
Sunday afternoon. Jackson's going, by the way, he's making the
trip down there, so make sure you sailor to Jackson.

Speaker 11 (34:58):
Is he flying on the teams yet on the way back?

Speaker 1 (35:00):
But not on the way too.

Speaker 10 (35:01):
I'm flying Saturday.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
Can he fly with you down there? Is that cool?

Speaker 7 (35:06):
Well?

Speaker 11 (35:06):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
Did you give him your jacket last time he was
on your plane?

Speaker 7 (35:13):
Well?

Speaker 11 (35:13):
Did we win?

Speaker 8 (35:14):
I can't remember.

Speaker 11 (35:15):
You had a better memory. Did we win when he
went down on the plane.

Speaker 10 (35:18):
Yes to the La Galaxy game. When you gave me
your jacket? We beat the Galaxy on the road last year.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
Put his ass on the plane?

Speaker 11 (35:24):
What are you doing the manifest.

Speaker 6 (35:27):
I don't want Jordan Morris. How was that you got
to get Jackson's ass on your flight?

Speaker 4 (35:31):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (35:32):
Coco Karraskiya right?

Speaker 3 (35:34):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (35:34):
Houston? Did I pronounced his name right? By the way?

Speaker 6 (35:36):
Excuse you, thank you ejected during game one. He's out
for game two. How does that change kind of what
you do? And how do you think it changes what
they do?

Speaker 11 (35:47):
Uh, well, it doesn't really Look they get to change
a little bit because look, he's a tremendous player. He
did something stupid, but he's a tremendous player. And uh,
I just think that they are who they are based team. Look,
they've struggle to score goals consistently, but they're good defensively.
You know, It's it's kind of similar to us. I mean,

(36:08):
we've been very good defensively at times, we struggle.

Speaker 7 (36:11):
To score goals.

Speaker 11 (36:11):
So it's going to come down one of those games
where you know, any team makes a mistake. I mean,
we'll be happily jump on a mistake there. We don't
want to make any bad errors at the back. But
it's going to be a tight game and so they're
going to miss him, but they've got a good they've
got some players coming off the bench.

Speaker 9 (36:29):
Well, you took Ezekiel Ponse and you just shut him
down in game number one, So how do you repeat
that knowing that Houston's going to make some adjustments with him.

Speaker 11 (36:39):
Well, I think where they're going to make the adjustments.
Dick is, they'll press us higher up the field. I
mean they tried to press us at home, but I
thought we got out. I thought our playing out from
the back, our goal kicks. I thought we were pretty
successful there. But we're expecting them to come out at us.
I mean, that must win game for them, you know.
So we'll be prepared for that eventuality, and you know,

(37:03):
we'll we'll just see if we can make some plays.

Speaker 6 (37:05):
All right, Man, go get him on Sunday. Keep an
eye out for Jackson. We're talking a week, all right.

Speaker 11 (37:10):
All right, take care guys.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
All right.

Speaker 6 (37:12):
Man Brian Schmetcher with US on the radio show, says
he's likely gonna sit Jordan Morris for the game on Sunday,
even though the MRI came back today with no real
structural damage, so good news there, but likely still out
for the game on Sunday,
