Speaker 1 (00:00):
Did you guys hear the comments by Utah ad Mark
Harlan after the BYU game on Saturday? I didn't care,
but you didn't hear that, all right, So I'll have
to get that to you for a fun with audio.
I thought, I thought we grabbed it, but we'll do
it tomorrow. It's not very often where an AD addresses
the media after a game, right, you'll admit that, normally
the head coach. So when the AD goes and addresses
(00:21):
the media and starts complaining about officiating, it must be
the worst call in the history of the world.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
So the end of the Utah BYU game, the Holy War,
which BYU won.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
You weren't watching. You're probably in build right exactly.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Yes, BYU was backed up inside their own like ten
yard line and they get bailed out by a holding
penalty by Utah, and the AD goes nuts and takes
the podium and says, this is a sgrace blah blah
blah blah blah. And the first thing I saw before
I saw the holding penalty was the comments by Mark
(00:54):
by Harlan, And I'm thinking, all right, this has got
to be just an awful call. Everyone would agree, it's
a arable, terrible call, and it wasn't. I'm watching this
holding penalty thinking, Okay, I mean I probably wouldn't have
called that, but I could see that, I could see
how they'd call that holding. And this guy just goes
on the podium and just starts blasting people over what
a lot of people think was maybe the right call.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
The hell was he doing?
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah, I'm with I'm with the en hey score, hey
score a point in the second half, right, and then
complain and also stop them the rest of the way
on that drive instead of complaining.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
I mean, you're right, it was a it was a
questionable call. It wasn't ridiculous, but.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
It wasn't ridiculous, and it wasn't like it was the
last play of the game. We're not talking about the
Saints Rams playoff game right where it's down at the
two yard line, and it was just an absolute assault.
I mean, it was just a call that you see
all the time. So I was very, very surprised he
went after it. And I saw Nea Motlolo, the San
(01:55):
Jose State coach and against the Oregon State got the
win and was just ripping on pack twelve officials in
that game after the to.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
The game as well.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
I mean, these coaches in the and athletic directors are
getting pretty bold and you know, going after officials.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Now, yeah, I thought it was just kind of an
embarrassing look for the guy, to be totally honest with you,
I mean, they just they came out and they let
their ad just take over the podium and just kind
of completely take over the scene over a call that
probably was the right one when it's all said and done.
So if you haven't seen it, go check it out
and we'll hear it tomorrow on Fun with Audio. All right,
Jed Fish, we asked him flat out, is Will Rogers
(02:30):
starting Friday versus UCLA?
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Check this out?
Speaker 4 (02:33):
We'll start Friday.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yes, does a plan for him change it all? Do
you plan to give to them on a driver to
here or there?
Speaker 5 (02:38):
What's the at this point in tom I would say
our plan would be similar to sc plan or Michigan plan.
I think about fifteen plays twenty plays, but that's certainly
up for grabs and probably some game plan advantage there.
If I don't answer that more than that, and you talk.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
About why it makes sense to start Will again Friday?
Speaker 5 (02:58):
Yeah, Well, for a few reasons. Number one, he's led
us all season long, and he's five and zero at home.
He has done a fantastic job against both Michigan and
USC and our home games here and Northwestern. He has
(03:20):
been a fantastic leader since arriving here. There wasn't anything
that I would say that occurred on Saturday night that
I would hold him solely responsible for that would have
caused us to say, Hey, there's just no.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Way we're going to win this game.
Speaker 5 (03:38):
Otherwise, I have total faith that we're going to win
the game with Will at the starting quarterback position, and
I think the team feels the same way. So he's
worked extremely hard. This would be his fifty first college start,
and the decision I made at halftime was for multiple reasons,
(03:59):
certainly to try to provide a spark. Certainly we weren't
where we wanted to be, but there was there was
a lot that went into that decision to give Demon
the opportunity to lead us in the second half.
Speaker 6 (04:11):
When you look at the sorry, the experience that Demand
had in the second half of that game and just the.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
Game reps he's head throughout.
Speaker 6 (04:18):
Where are the specific places where that's most going to
help him or where you've seen him take specific strides,
just from having those kind of experiences.
Speaker 5 (04:25):
Everywhere we met yesterday, I talked to Demon for a
long time. We watched every clip he and I and
Jimmy together went through every play he had in the
second half, went through every play Will had in the
first half with Will, and what I explained to Demand is,
you know what happens is you get these opportunities, and
now when Demand gets in there next year, he's going
(04:47):
to have experience at playing in front of one hundred
and seven thousand people in a white out. He's going
to have the experience of going against the number four
team in the country that has won loss by one score,
you know, against Ohio State. He's going to have the
experience of, you know, what does it feel like to
try to make a slant throw into tight coverage on
(05:08):
fourth and five and be able to draw from that experience.
We're able to go through every one of those scenarios
with him and talk about, hey man, when that happens
next year, you know, we're playing Ohio State and they
want to go all up zero in our stadium, what's
our answer going to be? You know, I don't want
your first time that you're dealing with a fourth and
five on the five being, you know, in Pullman week three,
(05:30):
next year or whatever it might be, I wanted to
be now. So he's really beginning to learn from it.
You know, I'm sure he'd love the double reverse pass back,
but I also know that next year he's not going
to miss that throw, and I know that he's going
to continue to improve and in the end, at the
(05:51):
end of this season, he'll probably have one hundred and
fifty to two hundred snaps. And you know, then we
got him for three more years, and we've got an
opportunity to take those three years.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
And I've never had a quarterback for that long. So
this is like a dream of mine I've had.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
I think I have had nineteen quarterbacks in twenty years,
so nineteen starters in twenty years. So the idea of
having a guy for a couple of years that we
could build this thing there is pretty exciting.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
He should have seen his face, Dude, Dick, you gotta
go watch the video, man Jackson, you agree.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
With that, such a giant smile. It's unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
So excited for did you follow up with so that
means you and Demand will be here for the next
three years.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Well, that's the first thing I thought I was going
to ask Jet three years of you and Demand at
Oklahoma or at Washington, what are we talking about here?
But again, I just think it, and I'm not saying
he's wrong to do it. I just think maybe the
portal and the nil era Dick has changed everything and
the way coaches operate.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
But hearing a guy sitting there the Monday.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Before, let's face it, a pretty big ass game Friday night, yes,
to get the boil, and hearing them spend that much
time talking about next year in the future and this
is what we're gonna do and blah blah blah. I've
been saying it and I'll say it again. I don't
think this guy can wait to get to the offseason
to start to go to work on this roster.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
It just is becoming more and more professional football like
in every single way, including that right, including not tanking
per se, but looking towards next seasons.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
What NFL teams do all the time.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
I mean, nobody would fault an NFL coach that, let's
say was five and.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Eight after thirteen games. Yeah, for talking like that, yeah,
not one, or playing the young guys.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
In fact, in fact, most fans of that team would
be like, beretch them all, man play all the young guys.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Well, I mean it's kind of already started here when
you talked about maybe wanting to sniff Sam Howe a
little bit right, a couple of weeks ago, and we're
four and five, for God's sake. So yes, it is
absolutely a pro mentality in every way, shape and form.
I mean it's like we're talking about, Hey, you make
a ball game and players want to come.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
No, they don't. They want a damn check.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Jonah Coleman might be coming back to school next year
because he might be able to make more money at
you Dub versus going to college football. We talked about
that a week ago, that the rumor was that Jonah
Coleman was gonna return to school, and Jedfish just put
a percentage on He said, ninety chance that Jonah Coleman
returns to school.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
I refreshing, I.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Really do, I've gotten I have got no idea if
Jedfish is gonna lead the Huskies to the top of
the Big Ten in the next five years, no clue,
But I can tell you what I do like some
of his honesty, and he's very, very articulate.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
There's there's not man listen to all these coaches that
give it the.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Great He's a fabulous he's a charmer. He knows exactly
what to say and who to say it to. He's
a salesman, There's no question about that. I think a
lot of the other stuff will have to wait and
see if he If he can never fix the offensive line,
it's not gonna matter. If he can never fix the
front seven, it's not gonna matter.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
So how much is it even on him anymore to
fix the offensive line or is it on montlaketight.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Well, but he's got to motivate people, right, That's what
I mean.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Somebody somebody texted that in the other day that he's
got the head coach has got to motivate people to
spend money.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
And if he can do that, then awesome. But he
needs a war chest.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
I mean, he talked about this at Big ten media
day that we got one third of what you know,
Ohio State or Michigan. I mean, Oregon's got unlimited funds.
They can do whatever the hell they want. They just
lost the van der plude kid the tight end to
Oregon because he got more money out of the Ducks.
And this is the thing, is that until signing day
happens in December, nothing is certain. Is there any part
(09:37):
of us at all that is remotely concerned about somebody
coming in and poaching DeMont Williams with a gigantic offer
over the offseason? I mean, Dave Portney is running around
offering two million dollars for.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Michigan for a quarterback to go play for Michigan.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
I mean, how do we not be I mean, we're
not that naive right to think there's a chance that
the guy's gonna get some calls demand at them.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Yeah, you have to match them. You have to.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
There's no question about it. I Mean we bitch and
moan all the time about John Stanton not spending money.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Well, guess who has to spend money to make the
Huskies good? That's right, ain't John Stanton? Well it's you.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
What if John Stanton made the Huskies good but the
Mariner still sucked to take that?
Speaker 4 (10:15):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (10:15):
What if he donated twenty million dollars for it? I yes,
but he won't go out and find it. Well, I'm
Moregan right field.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
But you and I are both more Husky fans than
we are Honor fans, so.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
I think we both take the difference is that John
Stanton is worth a billion dollars and he's the actual owner.
All right, Do we have a whale a Do we
have a whale like that that is motivated to spend
that kind of money on Husky football? Do we have
anything remotely what Ohio State has or Michigan has or
Oregon has. And maybe it's the collect like I do know,
(10:48):
I do know, Dick, that one of the concerns from
people that you die, but this has been a concern
for a while, is the next generation of donors, right,
the next wave you know, once the once the old
guard is gone, right, you know, once people like Neil
Dempsey obviously, and guys like Jim Kenyon back in the
day and guys like Don Bernard for now, you know,
you know people like that, you know, once they move on,
(11:09):
is there a wave of donors behind them that will
step up the young alumni for example, to step up
and kind of fund this thing. So that's a big,
big thing for Pat Shun, no question about it.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Well, and also going to big ten it's not a
matter you have to you have to. You didn't have
to in the Pac twelve to stay a top two
or three team in the Pac twelve. I mean you
could have just been okay in nil and still been
better than any other team in the conference except maybe
Oregon and USC.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Yeah, you can't do that anymore. If you don't, you're
gonna be ninth or tenth in the Big ten.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
How about a little bit from Mike McDonald. It's head
across the lake to the vMac Mike McDonald with some
good news potential and Abe Lucas dk Metcalf explaining why
they fired their leading tackler. Here's Mike McDonald.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
Really good bye. Week just gave us an opportunity.
Speaker 7 (11:56):
Wanted to kind of take a step back, just like
we talked about before we left. Guys got rejuvenated, and
uh was an opportunity for us to you know, look
where we're at.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
I think some of the big takeaways was really hot.
Speaker 7 (12:08):
It's not the what we're doing, it's the how we're
how we get it done.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Like I said, everything was on the table.
Speaker 7 (12:13):
You know, made a personal decision you know today that
I'm sure you guys will ask about and you know,
we continue to move forward. So the guys were excited,
they were good spirits, and we got a great, you know,
big week of prep ahead of us.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
And on where we go.
Speaker 7 (12:27):
Pud the decision into a little bot Tyrell does, oh, well,
you know, we really appreciate t Dot. I mean he's
he's worked extremely hard rehabbed, you know, throughout the off season.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Here.
Speaker 7 (12:36):
Uh, these, I think is what was an opportunity for
us when we when we kind of sat and it
took a step back and realized where we were at. Uh,
it was really the best thing for us to move
forward that way give the other guys in the room
an opportunity to step up. I hope those guys grab
that opportunity by the horns and and take it and
run with it. And uh and then it gives uh,
it gives the relevant opportunity to you know, find another
(12:56):
spot somewhere else so we can finish the year strong.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
So that was the thought behind it takes overret that spot.
Speaker 7 (13:03):
Uh teen height will uh we'll get the first kind
of look and then we'll look at some different personnel.
Spot could look at some different personnel packages as well.
And Drake Thomas, you know, might get it, might get
a crack at it as well.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
What did you say Tie started to get what did
you see him? Well, we expect him to keep.
Speaker 7 (13:18):
Improving as a player and he's gonna get a lot
more reps now and so just try to take his
game to the next level, do what he does, make tackles,
play good solid football for us, and looking forward.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
To seeing what he does with the opportunity.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
That's both your inside linebackers out in two weeks.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
What weren't you getting there than you needed to change?
Speaker 7 (13:35):
Well, I think you know, holistically as a defense, we
weren't getting it done. And you know we coundt of
We We put a lot on our linebackers, and so
you know, I hate that it had to work out
like just through those two guys, because those two guys
that uh that we respect a lot and and have
come in and worked really hard. But you know, sometimes
you have to make these decisions and and do what
you feel like it's best for our defense to take
(13:56):
the next step.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
And so that was his but just happened to be
those guys. But we do put a lot on our linebackers.
Speaker 7 (14:02):
We expect a lot from those guys, and uh, you
know that'll always be the case here when as long
as we're here.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
So are we more pleased that the Seahawks just said
enough is enough and cut both these guys?
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Or they traded Baker? Right?
Speaker 1 (14:14):
He got traded Baker? Did they got rid of both
their starting linebackers from week one? Are we more excited
that they moved swiftly? Or are we more irritated that
we were in this position to begin with?
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Yeah? I don't that's a good question.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
I would say I'm slightly more irritated that you go
hover two on your linebacker.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
I mean, at least can you find one right?
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Right?
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Can you?
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Can you maybe whiff on one and hit on one?
I mean this was a this was a Mariner esque
off season. Oh yeah, I mean this was very I
mean this was what we're used to seeing from the
potal with his offense, right.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Yeah, you're right. I thought of it that way.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
I mean, I mean usually this sea usually Schneider like it,
these hits fifty to fifty.
Speaker 8 (14:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
I'm trying to think of the best offseason move the
Seahawks made this last year, and I can't think of
one that stands out. I mean, remember all the talk
about God, look at all this money we have. What
happened to it? They didn't do anything with it. They
had all this free agent money and instead of going
out and spending it on a couple of studs, they
went out and just got fifteen little turns.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
They depoted it right. The money, Yeah, but they tried
to plug a bunch of holes.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
Good news is in the NFL, you can get out
of it, right. I mean baseball is a little bit different.
But I mean I just think that I'm kind of
with you that, I mean, what the hell are we
doing a linebacker?
Speaker 5 (15:28):
Man?
Speaker 1 (15:29):
You know, you let Jordan Brooks and Bobby Wagner walk
and replace them with two guys that don't even make
it to Game ten.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Well, and then you look at right now, you look
at your draft picks, and Christian Haynes isn't playing right now,
Tyree's Knight, your fourth round pick. They're hoping he's gonna play.
But it's not like he's looked like a superstar. I mean,
they're just they're just putting him in there. And Byron Murphy,
I mean, get healthy. I hope the guy's gonna be
a dominant player. Hugh seems to think he's gonna be
done player. I'm gonna lean on hughe knowledge, but Jared
(15:55):
Verse was there and that dude's a freak show.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Well we'll wait on Murphy. I'm with you on that.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
But yeah, I mean, I just you know, he's got
he's got a he's got to prove he can he
can fix the line. He's got to prove he can
fix those linebackers because he hasn't He hasn't proven either.
Will Rogers is set to join us. What was his
reaction to sitting out the second half on Saturday? Coming
next on ninety three three kJ a r FM, Now back.
Speaker 8 (16:17):
To Frostproud Coors Light Tunes to Chill Mondays with Sofian
Did on Your Home for the twelfth Man of the
NFL Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ r FM.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Some sad news to report as we are efforting to
get Will Rodgers here on the phone. Former USC and
UNLV head coach John Robinson, who was Petros's coach at USC,
has died at the age of eighty nine years old
after a battle with pneumonia. Led USC to the nineteen
seventy eight National Championships.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Rams coach too.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Yeah, that's right, way before Jackson's time. But you know,
for Dick and I growing up as kids, obviously he
was he was one of the stars. So condolences to
his family and friends. And I'm sure and we'll talk
to Petros about that on Wednesday show. Uh here on
kJ are uh while we're waiting to get Will on
the air, and uh, we'll see if he answers his phone.
I'm not sure if I'd be fired up to talk
(17:10):
about that game Saturday or not if I were him.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
I'm looking at the box.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Score and the play by play sheeting my notes from
the game on Saturday night. A couple things that stand out.
First of all, Grady Gross misses another field goal. He's
got eight misses so far this year. He missed only
four a year ago. I mean, there was a point
in time for me where I thought Grady Gross last
year was just automatic every single time.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
Now he's missed eight field goals, more clutch situations. Situation. Yeah,
this year was Rutgers and he did no question, absolutely,
and that was like what fifty plus whatever? Yards? The
one will he missed the game, he did, but they
one at the end of the game. Which right, But
would you say right?
Speaker 1 (17:49):
The clutch one was the end of the fourth quarter
where he missed it from like nine hundred yards away,
and then the ejection for Thattius Dixon. Look, I know
a lot of Husky fans are pissed off about it.
I thought it was the right call. Well, I thought
what Jed said today though, was pretty fair. He said, Look,
nobody's going to argue with the call. But can we
get to a point where we are like the NFL,
(18:10):
where we have two different kinds of targeting, either one
that comes with a fifteen yard penalty or one that
comes with ejection. And if a guy just launches in blindside,
lowers his head, corn holes a guy right in the head,
knocks his freaking helmet off, right, that's a different story.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Like the Miami game. Correct Saturday.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Correct, guy gotliterated and it was obviously intention Yes, but.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
What that Eus Dixon did is it really worth kicking
a guy out over? Probably not, But by the letter
of the law, it was definitely targeting. And the problem
with the NCAA is that they only move quick when
they want to move quick, like the Dan Lanning thing. Right,
this targeting thing is an epidemic around college football, and
(18:53):
I am tired of watching kids get ejected from games
for penalties in the NFL that are fit.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
It was terrible, and it was such a huge call
at the time, because let's forget about for right now,
forget about anything that happened from that point further, and
just look at the game.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
At that time.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
You had marched down the field with an impressive first
drive on the road, and for a second you had
silenced the crowd, and then you bunk the field goal
because you were weren't able to get a first down,
and then you were holding them on defense.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
You had a great play there Boom. I think it
would have been third down. It was second and goal.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
It was second and six from the seventeen yard line,
and they hit Evans for two yards.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
It would have been third and four.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
It would have been third and four. It would have
been third and four. You could have forced them into
field goal. I mean, I'm not saying that that call
obviously changed the whole outcome of the game, but it
could have made it a game for a while if
you hold new a field goal. And I don't know
it just I totally agree with Jed Fish there are
egregious targeting calls. We saw one the Miami loss on
(20:00):
Saturday afternoon, and you've seen it all over Twitter.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
The dude just gets his head.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Blown off after getting face masked, and then he spins
out of the face mass and gets obliterated.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
And then you've got to play like this.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
Why in the NFL can they separate egregious targeting from
non egregious targeting and not kick guys out?
Speaker 1 (20:17):
And they can't do it in college for that, they
should because the league is becoming more and more like
pro football every year.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
Absolutely they should do that. There's no question they should,
and I hope they do.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
But I mean, the very next play they bring in
a backup quarterback and they score on a direct snap
to this Bo Pribulik kid. Three of their their first
three touchdowns we're all in direct snaps. The problem is
is that Washington's offense on that very first drive of
the game, like I get maybe taken some air out
of the defense. And look, I think Thaddeus Dixon is
a really good player. I think you can even make
(20:47):
an argument that he might be your best defensive player.
He's your best secondary. He's fabulous, he's great, and extremely
high by the geeks at PFF. He might be your
best defensive player. But the offense had a thirteen play
drive that took seven minutes on the very first drive
of the game, and they did not have another drive
that lasted more than four minutes until they're down twenty
(21:09):
eight to nothing.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
So they just completely fell apart after the first drive.
And I don't know if it's all to do with
Thaddeus Dixon getting ejected. I'm not saying it helped. It
certainly hurd him, there's no question about it. But I mean,
I just think that what happened on Saturday Dick was
probably gonna happen anyway, whether Dixon got kicked out or not.
But the first four drives you give up touchdowns. The
(21:31):
first three drives are all direct snaps to Tyler Warren
and backup quarterbacks. You have had two drives over fifty
yards the entire damn day. And Demon Williams comes into
the second half, goes six for ten for sixty yards
through the air, runs ten for thirty eight, but got
sacked three times and lost twenty seven yards on three sacks.
(21:51):
Because the NCAA is stupid and they take sack numbers
off rushing totals.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
Well, I just felt like I was tweeting at the
time during the game. I just felt when when Dixon
got that call, I was like, Oh, there's no way
they're gonna call targeting on that, and then and then they.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
Did, was like, that's how it's gonna go.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
I I had almost resigned myself to the fact that
that's how this game's gonna go. This is gonna be
an absolute blood bath. And it turned into a blood
bath very very quickly. And I'm normally not like that,
you know me. I'm normally like, hey, we can ye
glass half full, all right, We're okay, We're only down
two touchdes.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
I did not feel that for one second.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
The reason why, because you're Sergeant Doom. Now You've gone
from the snow globe to sergeant and Doom. I mean
everybody saw it.
Speaker 7 (22:39):
You know.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
It's just this, You've just morphed into a negative bastard,
and I have been.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
I have been the most I have been, without question,
the most positive husky of the three of us on
this show this year.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
So I don't know about I don't know what talking.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
If you want to talk Mariners and Seahawks on Sergeant Doom,
I'll go there with you.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
I have not been there with the Husky.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Well, I'm being slightly sarcastic, Dick. I mean, come on
dance with me here, buddy. I'm talking about Saturday's game
of Penn State. You know you were giving up after
the first drive. I was, and I'm not saying you're
wrong to do that. I mean, look, we all thought
there was a chance that these guys would be in
a little bit of trouble. I thought they'd cover, you know,
because Penn State doesn't blow a lot of teams out.
Maybe it's coming off the Ohio State game and they
were just in a bad mood after that game. But
(23:17):
you know, one hundred and ten thousand people at the game,
it's the second biggest crowd that you Dubb has ever
played in front of. And I just think, for me,
we got to figure out, you know, how much of
a break we're gonna give Jet Fish for your number one.
Because I thought the coaching was bad on Saturday. I
thought leaving their quarterbacks exposed on Saturday was bad.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
I thought they just had a bad game.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
Plan for Penn State, and maybe they just wouldn't have
mattered anyway because the offensive line was getting shoved around.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
But you hear Hugh on the radio Dick this morning, and.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
He's talking about how the offensive line is blocking the
wrong guys. They're just in the wrong spots. I mean,
he said they were traffic cones out there on Saturday.
And that's a coaching problem. The talent's not that great
right now to begin with. We all get that, it'll
get better, we all get that. But I felt during
the game, especially when Demon came in to play in
the second half, that they needed a little bit more
(24:10):
help scheme wise, or guys were about to get really
hurt in that game, especially number two, and thank god
he did well.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
You don't want to hear about scheme issues. You don't
want to hear about guys blocking the wrong guys. But
I'll just tell you what I what I what I
tweeted out.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
Nobody wants to hear about that. Oh yea, I'm gonna
tell you what I tweeted in the second half of
that game. I said, not mad at the coaches or players.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
This wasn't in the cards from the jump, and I
am not mad at anybody that played or coached in
that game. Now, I'll tell you what on Friday, if
they don't come out in their home stadium against the
team that is not as good as they are and
they don't win that game, I'm gonna feel completely different
about the players and the coaches.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
When U c l an. It's pretty motivated right now, buddy,
they're they're they're running the ball. I mean they did.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
They did to Iowa what UB couldn't even come close
to doing. And maybe some of this is the guy.
What are the updated numbers now for teams that are
traveling multiple time zones in the big time?
Speaker 2 (25:05):
Horrible?
Speaker 1 (25:05):
John Wilner tweeted this out and texted me about it
during the game. The updated numbers are This was before
the game. I think it's now seven and seventeen overall
are the updated numbers? And spread isn't much? Yes, seven
sixteen and one against the spread I think is what
I've got. So it's an issue. It's an issue for
(25:26):
teams that are traveling multiple time zone. Man, there's no
doubt about it. But even even Fish pointed this out
about what UCLA did to Iowa.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
I mean, they're running game.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Look at these numbers from the game on Saturday, and
maybe again part of this is because the game happened
to be at the Rose Bowl. But UCLA ran for
two hundred yards on Iowa two hundred they held Cayden
Johnson did forty nine yards and a touchdown in that game.
I mean, is that just dumb luck? Is that just
the advantage of having Iowa fly to the Rose Bowl?
(25:56):
Or is UCLA all of a sudden blocking and tackling people.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Oh, honestly, Sean Foster's done a nice job turning the
season around. It could have been awful. I mean it
could have been one and ten or you know, one
and eleven, two and ten and after that one in
five starts. So you got to give him credit for
turning the thing around. But this offense, I mean, they
shouldn't score They shouldn't score twenty more than twenty points
(26:20):
against the Husts, all right, right, I mean they put
up twenty at home against Iowa. They should not score
twenty at Washington against the top twenty defense in the
country that is coming off getting embarrassed.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
By the way.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
This is who UCLA lost to and four of their
five games Indiana, LSU, Oregon, and Penn State.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Yeah, I mean that is unbelievable. It is.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
But Theywaii by three. They did, and they lost in
Minnesota and their only three wins are.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Three to three and seven. Well, I mean they they
did something. They did two things udub couldn't do.
Speaker 7 (26:49):
Right.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
They beat Rutgers and they beat Iowa. So I mean,
you can take whatever approach you want to Friday's game.
What approach you take him not taking these guys for granted,
whatsoever I'm taking for grant, I'm not absolutely no idea
what's gonna happen for I think the game actually scares
the hell out of me Friday.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
I think there's a difference between taking a team for
granted and saying you absolutely should win this game on
Friday if you're watching.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
Well, but I think there's those are two different things,
and I don't know, I don't agree with that, and
that's fine. I mean, Vegas has these guys is three
and a half point favorites on Friday night, and I
think there's a reason for it. I think I think
you dubbed has no right to look past anybody or
take anything for granted. And if they lose this game
on Friday, there's not one part of me who's going
to be surprised, not one part.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
I hope they win. I think they're going to win,
but after what we've seen this year from you, dub Man,
who knows be surprised and I would be massively disappointed.
Let's let's get a break.
