Speaker 1 (00:00):
Where go.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
The CBI is still going on, the n I t
is still going on. Fox has this College Basketball Crown
Tournament thing whatever it is going on. So and we
can't make one of them. As a Husky fan, that's
freaking fantastic.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
All right, I mean that's not all right? Well not sucks, okay, sticks.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
There is no way you would have thought any of
those other tournaments. Would you have been excited for if
the Huskies were in.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
No, But the fact that we can't even make one
of them, I'm even less excited about that.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Does that? Does that change your.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Excitement of the NCAA tournament undred percent?
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Does? Yes?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Thousand percent? And I wonder if the fans out there
agree with that, Jackson, I will. Actually, it's funny you
brought that up because I want to get your thoughts
on this, because I threw a poll out on Twitter
today asking people for their excitement level for the NCAA tournament. Okay,
so you're gonna get mad at these results. I can
tell already. You're gonna get mad, You're gonna get pissed off,
You're gonna get angry.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Why am I gonna be mad?
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Because I know most people aren't ask fired up as
I am about the end.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
And why do you think that is because I'm a lunatic?
Speaker 2 (00:58):
No, no, no, the number one in Seattle white people would
not be as fired up for the NCAA Tournament as
what is what.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Because they're not huge college basketball.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
I think it's because we haven't had a team play
in the tournament consistently for a decade.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
We haven't had a team playing the tournament consistently in
my lifetime fourteen years.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Do we've made it? One time the Husky, That's what
I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
But there hasn't been more than a like three year
stretch in my lifetime, right, we consistently made it? So
this is this is what we should all be Not
that we should all be happy with it, no, but
this is what we should be used to. Because I
would say, am I fifty years of existence?
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Uh huh? What we've made eight or nine out of fifty?
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Well, I mean I'd go back and check. It's more
than that. I think it's more than that.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
But definitely not more than seventy five twenty five percent
of the time.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
The point is is that we don't have a team
consistently in it. If you go to a place like Kentucky,
for example, where they have teams constantly in the NCAA
Tournament North Carolina for example, that's a much bigger deal.
But I just think that's a huge factor, right, I Mean,
you're asking me, am I more excited for college basketball
if the Huskies are good year in and year out? Well,
of course? Am I more excited for the NBA if
(02:09):
we have a team in town? Of course I am.
I mean, I don't think that that's really I mean
to me, I thought that was kind of obvious.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
People more excited for the NFL playoffs when the Seahawks
are in it versus not. I think they're just excited
for the NFL. I think the NFL is a different story.
I think there's always going to be outliers in the
NFL as one of them. I think the NFL is
the fifteen thousand pound guerrilla that can beat the odds
no matter what. And look, if the Seahawks are really,
really good, then yeah, I think there might be a
little more interest in the NFL playoffs.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
But I'm never worried about the NFL.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Right, I almost find myself in the opposite When the
Seahawks are in the playoffs. If the Seahawks are in
the playoffs and they get knocked out, I almost find
myself less interested in the rest of the playoffs, right, So,
I felt the same about the Sonics.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
When the Sonics made the.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Playoffs and lost, I was less interested in the rest
of the playoffs than when the Sonics didn't even make
it to the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Becau, you're angry and you're sad. No, I totally get that.
I'm I'm I'm actually one thousand percent with you. I'm
I'm kind of more excited about him when they're not
in because there's no pressure. But what's your excitement level
for the NCAA tournament? Was the question I asked on
social media. Four options extremely jacked up, excited but not
drooling like dick is, small interest, or could not care less.
Thirteen point nine said they're jacked up, twenty seven percent
(03:22):
said excited but not drooling, thirty point eight small interest
in twenty eight point one said they could not care less.
Good balance, Jackson, Where are you at with this as
far as your excitement level for the eNCA tournament?
Speaker 4 (03:32):
For me, I'm jacked up just because I love the
NCIDA tournament and sort of like Dick, I think you
nailed it like for me, like and I got to
be a college basketball fanily. I really started my love
of Husky basketball in like four, five, six. Those are
my first real seasons loving you doub hoops.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
And it was just like, oh, it's just a pick
and poop.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
I was just rolling everywhere enjoying myself, and then it
was just absolutely nothing. So I've gotten used to the nothing,
and I just I'm gonna love the tournament every March,
regardless of if the Huskies are in it. It adds
to it. But like, I'm so jacked up because it
just means like I'm just gonna spend time looking at
stats and interesting little things in here and there. And
(04:11):
you guys don't know that I love those.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
That little rabbit hole man that you could get the
rabbit hole I got into today. I mean I saw
Alice from Wonderland. I was in that rabbit hole so
deep on the internet.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
So I just look at it up.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
The Huskies have made the Tournament in your lifetime thirteen times, okay,
so when they made it one time since twenty eleven,
basically one out of four right years, I think there
is more excitement when the Huskies are good, I really do.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
I think.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
I think rising tides raise all boats when it comes
to this stuff, man. And when the Mariners are good,
there's more interest in the Major League Baseball playoffs. When
the Sonics are good, there's more interest in the NBA playoffs.
I think the you know again, there's gonna be always
exceptions to the rule, and the NFL is one of them.
But I'm I'm kind of in the second category myself.
I would vote for the excited but not drooling category.
(04:56):
Like if I'm sitting at home on Thursday or Friday
and there's NCAA basketb ball on and somehow, some way
it happens to be eighty degrees outside, I may leave
and go play nine holes of golf and just take
my phone and watch the would Yeah, I'd do that
as well. Yeah, but I'm not going to be married
to my TV the way some people are. I mean,
the gambling aspect changes a lot of this, right. This
place is going to be packed over the weekend. Obviously,
(05:18):
they're doing a big promotion down here where you can
get a night at the hotel on Wednesday or Thursday,
reserve seating in the showroom fifty bucks and a dining
credit for one hundred dollars. You're basically getting a hotel
room for one hundred dollars by the or feedbe for
fifty bucks. So jump on the web at the emer
Queen dot com and site find out more about that.
But it saddens me, right, I mean, it saddens me
(05:38):
that Washington basketball is not better. It saddens me that
every year we're kind of having these same conversations asking
people how excited they are for the NCAA tournament. You
put a poll out asking people what they're more excited
for baseball or basketball, for the NCAA tournament or the
start of baseball season, Like, these questions shouldn't even need
to be asked, and yet they are asked, and they're
(06:00):
asked for one reason, because the Mariners are pissing everybody
off and the Husky basketball team has been a massive
disappointment for fifteen years.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Yeah, I just frustrate.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
I mean, there is nothing that can get me down
in the sports world, and no topic that get no
you know about legs round Now I'm talking about leading
this week.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
This is the greatest week of the greatest three or
four week stretch, in my opinion, in the entire sports calendar,
it is three weeks of NCAA basketball.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
It is four days of the Masters.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
After that, it is absolute my pig and poop moment
for the next month. And nothing's going like whether Gonzaga
wins or loses.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
Who cares.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
I get I get basketball for three weeks in what
I believe is the greatest tournament in sports. It is
the closest thing to tournament perfection that we have in
the entire sports world.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
So you're saying, if Gonzaga goes on a run, your
enthusiasm doesn't go up a little bit, just a little bit.
I'm happy with gonze a little bit. No, I love
the tournament every single year.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
I don't let I don't let what the Huskies do,
what Gonzaga does, affect how much I love the nc double.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
A turn good. I love it.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Well, You're a p one, You're an absolute p one,
and you should be you should be getting ah, you
should be having some fun this weekend starting on actually tomorrow,
the first game start at what time? Three thirty is
the first games tomorrow? We got those games over on
the am side. In the first games for Thursday on
the FM stick starting at nine to fifteen with Creighton
and Louisville. But here's what we got. We got a
(07:31):
lot of stuff going on. There's like almost too much
going on right here, so I gotta kind of pick
and choose.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
But we're gonna promote here.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
First of all, we have a bracket contest of our
own on the website, brought to you by the amberal quink,
a CEO Twin Peaks Hyder Construction. Log on to ninety
three three kjir dot com, fill out your bracket before
nine am on Thursday and enter the EQUC Beat the
Boys Challenge as well.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
You can win prizes if you have a better bracket
than me and Dick.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
And so here's the thing, Dick's filling out the brackt
it right now. We've gotten to a couple of games
that we have some question marks on. We're gonna let
the audience decide which way we're gonna go with those games, okay,
because sometimes you just jection, as you know, just throw
darts on the wall, right whatever. Ninety five year old
grandma to of the eight year old kid will have
a better chance of winning this thing than we are.
You sit down, you think you know what the hell
(08:18):
you're talking about, and you wake up and you realize
you got no freaking clue. Okay, so we got our
bracket contest going on, get to the website. First place
is two tickets to a Kraken game, Mariner game, Sounder game,
U Dub football game, and a U Dub basketball game.
Basically everything we have to offer in town, you'll get
tickets for. Okay, but if you beat me and Dick,
the Emeral Quen Casinos giving us two tickets for Hairball.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
That's their big kind of eighties butt rock show.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Nice here all right at the Emerald Queen Casino, overnight
stay at the hotel, fifty dollars dining credit. If you
can just beat our bracket and have more points than
us when the tournament's over, you'll be in the hopper
for the for the prize. So we'll award that to
I think three different people are gonna win the price package.
Chuck and Buck have a watch party coming up on
Friday at the Quill Seeda Creek Casino, by the way,
(09:06):
and their DraftKings sportsbook. Than of course, we got all
the coverage on ninety three to three kJ R FM
and nine to fifty AM with the first four games
all brought to you by Twin Peaks and Auburn Chevrolet.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
So it's exciting for us to be a part of this.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
It's exciting to be a member, a partner of Westwood
Ones network coverage and get all the games on Thursday, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday. And then we'll have the Elite eighth
to Sweet sixteen, the final four of the whole thing.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
And we got it here in Seattle.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
I think I'm gonna I'm gonna head on over to
Climbing Pledge for a little bit.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
You're gonna buy a Liberty shirt? Oh God, I should
should not. Absolutely goodness that is on dot com should
be here by tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
I saw where Liberty has to travel the most miles
of any team in the NCAA tournament in Oregon has
the sixth least, So it's not a it's not a
great matchup at least travel wise for Liberty.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Jackson.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
I we need more passion for college basketball in this town.
How do we get that? How do we get more
passion for college Let.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Me just very bluntly say I don't gamble a lot, right,
but I do gamble on two things, ENSAA tournaments and
fantasy football. Those are the two things I actually put
money into each year. And I am an outrageous fantasy
football person, Like I just as deep into as possible.
And that's the other thing for March Madness is like
(10:20):
I don't watch a lot of college basketball.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
I really don't.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
But because I'm putting, you know, twenty twenty five whatever
is bucks into this, I will spend an insane amount
of time listening. Like my whole podcast schedule is off.
I typically don't listen to sports podcasts. That's all I'm
going to be listening to the next three days, just
all March madness tough, and I can't soak up enough,
Like like this is everything right now. It's exciting for me,
(10:43):
and I think it's exciting because my money is going
into it, so I'm interested because there's actually things.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
On the line.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
The great thing about it is that there are you
guaranteed to have some unbelievable storylines in the next two weeks.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
And you have no idea what they are are and
no idea.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Where they're coming from. And that is just the cool
thing about I mean, some of the other playoffs they're
pretty like the NBA playoffs, as much as I love them,
they're pretty damn predictable because you play a seven game series.
So the chances you're gonna get a real mega upset, eah,
not not very good to get a much worse team
winning four out of seven games, But in a one
(11:23):
game situation, it is so freaking awesome.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Well, that's where you look at the matchup problems, like
where's Auburn gonna be in trouble?
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Where's gonna be in trouble? Right, where's Florida?
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Where's there a matchup problem down the road for those
guys where they might run into, you know, a trap,
or they might run into a couple of twin towers,
or a team that likes to slow things down and
just annoy the hell out he or a team with
great perimeter defense. Right, where's the mismatches? Because you're exactly right.
The great thing about the NCAA tournament is nobody knows
what the hell they're talking about. When the last time
(11:52):
we had all four number one seeds, like twenty seventeen,
is that right?
Speaker 3 (11:55):
With two and fifteen? I mean it's been a while, right,
whatever it is?
Speaker 1 (11:59):
Fifteens less I'm we had three in early two thousands
that they had it was like seven and that's the
only time, right, But was that Saint Louis, by the way,
I think it was in Saint Louis when.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
You Cela was there?
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Memphis one, yeah, Kansas, Memphis was San Antonio. That was
the if you're talking about the final, the final game
with the with the buzzer beat and all that stuff.
But the point is it's been a long damn time
and it's just never gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Like one of those one seeds is.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Likely gonna go down this weekend and not even make
it to the second weekend of NCAA basketball play.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
So it's like a lofty fifty. I think, well, you
got one seeds, don't get out of the first one.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
You mentioned the storylines and we'll talk to the course
he at four o'clock with us. I mean, the biggest
storyline right now is Carolina getting in in West Virginia
getting out. And look, all of us are sitting here
on the air on was it Friday when Carolina played
Duke and the ACC.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
We were watching the game.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
We're watching the game or thinking, oh man, Duke's gonna
blow him out. They're up by twenty plus points with
that Cooper flag, and the Carolina came back with this unbelievable,
undist maniacal, raging come back and then had a guy
step into the lane on a free throw, wiped out
a free throw and they lost the game. And we thought,
all right, maybe there's a chance to come back, will
be enough for the committee to put North Carolina in.
(13:10):
Well they're in, and people are pissed off that they're in. Well,
here's the thing. They're thirty sixth to net. West Virginia's
fifty first, and West Virginia just lost to Colorado in
the opening round of the Big twelve Tournament. Who's terrible, So, like,
what are we doing here? Are we basing this off
net ranking? We're basing this off quad one wins. We're
basing this on your combo quad two, quad three record.
(13:32):
North Carolina's one and twelve against Quad one teams. West
Virginia was six and ten, but North Carolina just took
took Duke all the way to the wire. Well, West
Virginia had an embarrassing loss in the Big twelve Tournament
and they're ranked higher in the net rankings. So this
is part of the problem when you make net rankings
public that everybody knows what's going on, and then you
(13:53):
have like the president of North Carolina is on the committee,
and I was reading today that he gets a bonus
of Carolina makes the tournament. He's on the committee, right,
and it looks awful, he said, you know, I wasn't
a part of the conversations.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
I get all that.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
I mean, sooner or later, when you allow the human
element and people that work for schools to decide who
makes the tournament and does not make the tournament, you're
bound to run into some controversy sometime, right.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
And I don't understand why people are upset that the
North Carolina athletic director is.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
President, by the way, and he was the he was
going to be the commissioner.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Buahurringham, Bobba Cuttingham was going to be the commissioner of
this thing. Whether North Carolina was a one seat or
completely out of the tournament or anywhere in between. Sure,
the fact that they were the bubble team is completely
coincidental to him being the athletic director that is in
charge of this thing. And they removed him, they accused
him from the meeting and talking to about North Carolina
(14:52):
and you and I. We've got text to prove both
you and I together and our text to Mark James
on Friday, we have texts to prove that says we
would not quote, we would not be surprised if North
Carolina got in based upon what they did in the
second half of that Duke game.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
So the people that are shocked.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
Now you can be ticked off and say that West
Virginia deserves to get in order that the North Carolina.
That's fine, But to be surprised by it, I don't
know how you could possibly be.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Problem is, the optics are terrible. The optics are hard.
But it's nobody's fault. It doesn't matter who's fault it is.
The optics are horrible.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
I mean the fact that this guy got a bonus
because Carolina made it and they were the last team.
In the fact that they had to scratch and claw
their way, in the fact that people are pissed. I
mean there's gonna be controversy and whether it's right or wrong,
or fair or unfair, the optics are terribly bad because
of all this going on.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Like, how did you feel if you the U dub
athletic director, and you were the commissioner, and it just
and you'd be like, well, dude, what am I supposed
to do?
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Well, you throw your hands up and go, really, I
don't know if there's anything you can do. There's nothing
you can do.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
This is what happens again when you allow humans to
make decisions that should be made before them. The big
diference between the NFL, the NBA, the NHL and college
sports is that nobody's sitting around in a room deciding
what teams make the NFL playoffs.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Ever, and so you never hear this kind of stuff. Right,
we're gonna break.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
We got more on this, a lot more to get to,
including Mike de Coursia four right here from the Emerald
Queen on ninety three to three KJRFM.
Speaker 6 (16:19):
You're listening to the exclusive home of the Huskies, the Kraken,
and March Madness. Now back to Softie and Dig, proudly
brought to you by Emerald Quink Casino on Sports Radio
ninety three point three kjr FM.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
All right, boys and girls, back here. If you ever
Quen Casino, do not forget. We got college basketball starting
tomorrow around three or so.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Over on the nine point fifty AM. Stick with the
is it the first four? Is that what they call it?
Speaker 6 (16:47):
Now?
Speaker 2 (16:48):
The first four so like the play in thing, like
you can't say play in game any the first two
now it's not not cool to say that anymore. Everybody
gets a lollipop. Everybody gets a grape fruit in a
juice box. The first four starts tomorrow over on the
nine to fifty AM side. Don't forget we got the
bed and Brackets contest happening with the Emerald Quink Casino.
(17:08):
We do have, by the way, our King of the
Court contest going on on our web page. You can
enter Jackson and we still have room to enter. Between
now and five thirty tonight, get to the Saftian Dick
page throw your name in there. We're gonna give away
two winners, and here's what you'll get. You win, three
pals will be invited down to the Emerald Queen Casino.
You'll get to stay overnights on Wednesday or Thursday in
(17:29):
a suite. By the way, you'll get reserve seating for
four people in the showroom and dining credit for dinner
and for breakfast the next day. If you win the contest,
all right, So get on down here, excuse me, go
to the website Enter to Win right now at ninety
three three kjair dot com and check out the Saftian day.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Last year, on the first day of the tournament, I
spent like eight consecutive hours here I got here.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Coming back down.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
This year, I think I will I got here at
like eleven and I left at seven.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
It was found. All right, well, we know people that
take care of you. By the way, You're just mean.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
I don't know where do we go from now, Mike
de COURSI obviously on the NCAA tournament coming up. But
the other big news of the weekend, I think is
the Sam Donald deal where the Seahawks. I mean, I
don't get it how they did this, right, Like, the
first thing I saw is how did that happen? This
is the best deal that Sam Darnald could get on
(18:23):
the open market as a contract that basically only guarantees
him a year. I mean, he's guaranteed some money against injury,
which all these quarterbacks are. But the way that I'm
reading this, this is basically a one year, thirty seven
point five million dollar deal where they can get out
of it after one year if things aren't going well.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Now the flip side of that.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
If things are going well, they may want to extend
him at some point, you know. But if this is
a total disaster the way some people have that concern,
which I don't really have that concern, but I get it.
He's only done it once in his NFL life. They
can get out of it and not kill themselves.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
How did he do this? He knew that it was.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
Going to be better than the original three years, one
hundred point five million that we heard, right. We just
didn't know it was going to be this good, right,
I mean we thought it would be like, Okay, they
can get out of it after two years with some
dead cap. That's probably that's what I was thinking. It's
like one year, no way they can get out of it.
Two years, Yeah, they can get out of it without
(19:20):
too much problem.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
This is your right, I.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Mean, this is just hey, prove it to us for
one year, man, and if you don't see you later, No, it's.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Just again, there's no dead cap money after twenty six
per June one.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
So I'm amaze.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
We'll talk to Janetty and clear all that up. Obviously
I was a wizard. I don't get it, man, I
mean he's done. I think he's done a phenomenal job.
I mean, look for all the crap that we give
him for the offensive line, and that still needs to
be fixed obviously. I mean, Tevin Jenkins is coming in,
and they got plenty of draft capital, plenty of money
to go after somebody if someone gets released over the
offseason into July, training camp, August, whatever.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
But I think he's done pretty damn well.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
I mean to not commit themselves long term to anything
we He said this the day that Sam Darnold was
traded to Seattle or excuse me, signed with Seattle.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
And I'll say it again that this.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Should preclude them from doing nothing in the draft, dick nothing.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
If they like Jackson Dart at eighteen, go get especially
now when this could just be a one year deal.
Then you're gonna absolutely start a twenty twenty five draft
pick next year.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Well, if you're in love with Shador, you want to
move up and get him, go get him. I'm not
saying I am or I do that, But if they're
in love with him, that's their paragraxate.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Yeah, I know he does.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
I don't think this should change anything, man, this is
really all options still are on the table for the Seahawks.
So after what John Schneider has done, receiving corps looks
a lot better.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
I remember sitting here.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Was it a week ago or two weeks ago when
we sat here and talked about the impact that not
having DK Metcalfe is going to have on Jackson Smith and.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
Jig But I think it was a week ago, one
week ago.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Well, now he looks different because he's got Cooper Cup
next to him. He's gonna have another receive They're gonna
draft somebody in this draft to become a star.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
They're bringing in Michael Gallup.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
I'm not sure I would expect much out of that,
or even the Markus vout Az Scanling signing. But if
MBS is your number three, okay, fine, he's your number three,
but he can't be your number two. And he's not
gonna be your number two. But the amount of money
that they're paying Sam Darnald and the commitment to him
and what he has to do to earn more money
from Seattle, I don't think this gounna worked out better.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
No good for them, and the comparisons to Gino are
going to continue we know that. But the people that
were not excited about Gino leaving and think this was
a bad deal, it was more of a football situation.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Now, all of a sudden, if if Sam Darnald, which
I think is a better quarterback than Gino Smith, but
if you believe Gino is better, okay, fine. I don't
think anybody out there believes Geno's significantly better.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
What has Gino shown at all that shows he's significant,
Jackson Bevin said Friday.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Gino Smith is better at everything quarterbacking than Sam Darnald.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
So hey, maybe he's right.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
Maybe he's gonna be on Jackson Bevan's island and we're
gonna be kissing his ass in November.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
Here's the problem.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
The race bought something, took it out of the store
without paying for it.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
What do you mean? And so now they're stuck. They're stuck.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
They most teams trade for guys with a contract already
ready to.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
Be signed, which ye right, what do you mean?
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Well, then they're just gonna play them under that. I
mean they could play him nder they.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Them if they wanted to.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
I mean, yes, I'm wondering why they haven't signed him yet. Yeah,
this deal has been done for a week and they
haven't signed Geno Smith yet.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
I think it's very simple seeing these other contracts, like
the Sam Donald contract, and they're like, well, Gino, we're
not gonna pay you that much more than Sam Darnal.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
And why not if you're the Raiders, just go get
Sam Donald. Why would you trade for Geno Smith If
you don't want to pay Geno Smith more than Sam Donald.
Why wouldn't you just go get Sam Donald and sign
them and keep your third round draft pick? And maybe
there's a small bidding war going on with the Seahawks
or somebody else. I mean the deal that Sam Donald
got from the Seahawks, I would assume that somebody could
have beaten that, given him maybe a little bit more
(23:00):
of a guarantee than just the one year.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
At thirty seven five familiarity, no doubt, no question, there's
no doubt why he did that. We talked about this
to day.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
Pete Carroll took the job that they're gonna have a
lot of Seahawk flavor around the franchise, right with personnel, people, coaches, players, whatever,
No question that was a part of it. But I
just think for me, I just want to stress because
John Schneider has been getting beat up a little bit,
you know, because the standards are extremely high, right, I mean,
Jerry Depoto's getting beat up for one reason. John Snyder's
(23:32):
getting beat up for another. Because John Schnyder is a
victim of his own expectations. Simply put that he set
for himself the job he's done so far in free agency,
and he's got to finish the job. Like I heard
Chris Kidd this morning with MJ in the midday, and
he's a thousand percent right with I could not have
been prouder of Chris Kidd. He said, Look, having all
(23:52):
this money and draft stock is great, but today it
means jack squat. It doesn't mean anything unless you do it,
spend it properly and use it properly. And we've I
feel like we've been here before where the Hawks have
had draft picks, they've had capital. Maybe not this much capital, right,
and maybe not this much draft capital together at the
same time. I get that, but we've been here before,
(24:14):
so he needs to push this through. This is the time.
It feels like if John Sneyder, Dick We're gonna break
here in a second, is going to ever win another
championship or get to another super Bowl. This time and
place in Seahawk history is gonna be the genesis to
make it happen. Right now, all right, we're gonna break
a little fun with Audio and then Mike de Coursi
at four right here on ninety three three KJRFM.
Speaker 6 (24:37):
It's now time for someday in Digg's Fun with Audio.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
Jimmy g pawn Star, Jimmy, mister Daroppolo. Now let's have
some fun with Audio.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
All right, here we go a little fun with Audio
on a Monday night from the Emerald Queen Casino Sports
Book where the March Madness Madness is gonna be really mad.
It's gonna be crazy man here at the Emerald Queen Casino.
Starting on Thursday, donor forget Wednesday one o'clock Bracketology broadcast
with Ian Ferness from these Qualmi because you know, brought
(25:08):
to you by our friends at Twin Peaks, a show
to help you fill out your bracket, discuss which games
to bet on coming up Wednesday at one with Ian
on ninety three to three kJ r F M. All right,
here we go a little fun with Audio Slash. Hey
did you hear that? Hey, Dick, did you happen to
hear that?
Speaker 3 (25:22):
What's that? What's that?
Speaker 6 (25:23):
Dick? Uh?
Speaker 3 (25:24):
Why don't we start Jackson with number two?
Speaker 2 (25:26):
After winning the Biggiest Tournament Saturday, Saint John's head coach
Rick Patino joined the Fox Sports crew and shared how
he plans to celebrate the championship.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Coach, how do you celebrate tonight? How do you celebrate tonight?
I'm gonna trig a quote of Jamison's court.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
What if he would have said, I don't know. Is
there a waitress in a Perkins restaurant?
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Is there an empty table? What if he would would
you have laughed? You would have laughed? I would mean,
come on, man, why the hell not?
Speaker 2 (25:56):
I mean he probably has a you know, ongoing agreement
with the out or whatever.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
He's a hell of a coach, dude. Everywhere he goes,
he wins everywhere. Period. It's not a bad idea. It
is Saint Patrick's day. What do you think? Yeah? I
means the Jefferson between now and the end of the
Yeah Show. Maybe not yet. I wouldn't. I wouldn't make
it the six if we did it right now? All right?
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear that? What's that, Dick,
Let's go to number three. West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrissey
held a press conference this morning to complain about the
NC Double A Tournament selection committee putting North Carolina in
the field instead of West Virginia and had stats to
back up his case.
Speaker 7 (26:37):
Six Quad one wins and that was combined with an
undefeated record against Quad three and Quad four opponents, three
wins against top ten teams, and the twenty fourth toughest
schedule in America. West Virginia deserved to be in the
NC Double A tournament. This was a miscarriage of justice
(27:00):
and robbery at the highest levels. Now who is the
last team to get into the tournament ahead of the Mountaineers.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
That would be the.
Speaker 7 (27:09):
University of North Carolina. Now let's see how their resume
stacks up. The tar Heels went one to twelve in
Quad one games and even had a Quad three loss.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
Okay, well, look, I mean again, don't lose to Colorado.
They had a lower net than North Carolina did. Yes,
they have six Squad one wins and Carolina's got one.
I still think that the North Carolina name means something
to people on the committee and I still think that
pushing Duke to the wire men something as well.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
So I get why he's pissed.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
It's not gonna make a hill of beans difference from
it's all said and done. He is smart, though, as
the governor to rally behind West Virginia fans because he
needs their vote.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
He needs their vote, That's why he's doing it. He
probably really doesn't care all that much. Oh, I don't
know about that. He might be a basketball fan to
be really.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
If he wants to say, I got stats for you,
I got a real simple stat for you. It's eight
and eleven. That's your record in the last nineteen games,
eight and eleven.
Speaker 3 (28:02):
What's North Carolina? Don't go eight and eleven? You know
what their record is in that same span. I will
take a look. Yeah, I mean they're Look. North Carolina's
not good.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
And when we're talking about the last team in right
or one of the last teams in, I just don't
know how much room there is to complain when you're
definitely one of the last teams in on the bubble,
you should have done more ticket off the bubble. If
you did more, this wouldn't be a problem.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
North Carolina actually ended the season.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Eight and two.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
I mean, they're they're a lot hotter team than West
Virginia in the last two three.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Well, the biggest, the biggest case against him is one
and twelve against Quad one teams, while West Virginia six
and ten. But we're still talking about, you know, the bubble.
We're talking about the last team in like do more
than not be that team?
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Come on, all right, hey, Dick, did you happen to
hear that? What's that? Dick? Let's go to number four.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
During ESPN's reaction to the NCAA Tournament bracket last night,
Sean Farnham, our old pal from Fox sharing his thoughts
on North Carolina making the field in West Virginia being.
Speaker 8 (29:05):
Left out When you first saw it, What was your
overall impression? What stood out? Well, one of it was
that has to be a typo. North Carolina can't possibly
be in this NCAA Tournament field because they had ample
opportunities to improve their resume. The fact that West Virginia
is not with six squad one wins and North Carolina
is with one, And if they thought so highly of
the acc how was an eighteen win Louisville team an
(29:28):
eight seed what you're telling me is North Carolina scheduled
its way in because it had the fifth hardest non
conference schedule. The problem is they only won one of
those games that matter. So you know, when you talk
about two wins against the field, that's not good enough.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
That's not good enough.
Speaker 8 (29:44):
And this is an example of why we don't need
to expand the tournament because we're looking at this resume
and going, yes, this is a tournament then caa tournament team.
To me, it's about being elite. This North Carolina team
is not elite.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Well, I'll tell you what, man, there's no greater tradition
than March Madness. The second greatest tradition is bitching about
the bracket for March Madness. When was the last time
you heard media as a whole, fans as a whole
on the Sunday night or Monday after the selection show
saying you know what, I got no complaints.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
Everything was great, right never.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
I mean it's every year there's gonna be somebody pissed
off about something when you have this many teams in
the tournament.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
My question about Carolina, how did they even get to
thirty six?
Speaker 2 (30:23):
I mean, they're the acc is terrible. They're the fourth
team of four that made the NCAA tournament. How were
they even number thirty six a net dick to begin with?
Speaker 1 (30:33):
Well, because, I mean they really climbed in the last
three weeks with that eight and two finish. I just
don't understand why we're playing such revisionist history. Sean Farman Farnham.
I mean, you and I were watching that game. I
watched the post game with the with the panel, including
Jim Beheim and all the guys that were doing right.
They all said, to a person, North Carolina passed the
(30:54):
eye test tonight. They had Joe Lenardi on right after
the game, and they asked Joe, Joe is North Carolina
and Joe's quote was, we have to find out what
Boise does and what Texas does over the next two days.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Well, Boise lost the next night. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
I mean so, like, I don't understand why everybody is
so shocked when we were shocked on Friday night when
they almost came back and won, everybody saying they might
have earned themselves a spot.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
Because one hundred and eleven bracketologists, every single one of
them had West Virginia in the dance. That's why they're
shocked because to be that wrong about one team, I
don't know how often that really happens.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
We'll ask Mike de Corsi about that.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
He'll join us next court to see him and our
friends at Northwest Handling Systems coming up on ninety three
to three KJRFL
