Speaker 1 (00:00):
Get to Hugh Millen right now joining us on the program. Hueie,
what shake and how are your pouch going on?
Speaker 2 (00:04):
I'm doing great, Dave?
Speaker 3 (00:05):
How are you?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Good man?
Speaker 1 (00:07):
So let's start off before we talk some Seahawks Weber
State tomorrow four o'clock pre eight o'clock kickoff, Big Sky team.
Don't have a lot of intel on Weber obviously, but
we do know that they win at that level. What
are you looking for tomorrow if you're a Husky fan,
either at the game or watching on a platform besides
Comcast because comcasts may not carry the game.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
You know, I can't ever remember feeling like this going
into a Husky game, but it reminds me of when
I was coaching you football and you go scout another team.
You don't know anything about them. You just show up
at the stadium with a notepad and you just kind
of try and get a sense of who they are.
And you know, some of the questions he asked, You know,
(00:50):
I'll be curious. Offensively, Let's let's start there. When the
Huskies have the football? Are they a shotgun team? Ryan
Greb was ninety one percent shotgun a year ago a
jet fish for the Wildcats was an eighty two percent
shotgun guy, but Will Rogers at Mississippi State was one
hundred percent shotgun, not a single down under center. So
(01:14):
you know that could be a factor, particularly in the
in the play action passing game. Will Rodgers never asked
back turned first down with ratio. That tells me what
are you doing on first down? Because if you're trying
to stomp cress kill in the words of Mike home Grin,
you know that that suggests an identity that you're trying
to get on first down. You're trying to get some
(01:34):
chunk plays or trying to get you know, short possession
type passes. That tells me what they're trying to be.
The running game, inside zone, outside zone, gap scheme. You
know those are some nuance and some scheme type stuff.
But you know, you look at there's double teams in
all those. Are they more double team conscious at the
defensive line and then late to get the linebacker or
(01:57):
do they have enough trust that almost like man blocking,
that they're quick to get to the second level. How
much how much window dressing and motions and misdirection, you know,
bootlegs and counters, is it just come right at you
or is there gonna be a level of uh of
deception involved? And I don't say that disparagingly a running back,
(02:21):
you know, is it is it a rotation or are
we going to have a workhorse emerged? Right? Uh So,
A lot of those are questions that I have, you know,
in the passing game are a us He's going to
try and push the ball outside the numbers like they
did a year ago. Remember Michael Pennix not only did
he lead the lead the NCAA in yards passing outside
(02:42):
the numbers. As I've said to you, the gap between
first and second was greater than the gap between second
and twenty eight. So Will Rogers, you know, playing in
that in that running shoot, they have a concept called mesh.
It's like dual and sometimes triple level crossing route, salak
losting route. If I'm jet Fizz calling those plays, I
(03:04):
want to call a lot of plays that Will Rogers
has familiar with, familiarity with, and and that mess concept.
Those shallow crosses should be heavily featured. You know, if
you're watching, if you go to the game or watching
on whatever TV, you may be able to find, uh,
let's say you see a ball go off in the
in the flat to the tight end. Well, not all
(03:26):
passes to the tight end in the flat are created equal.
When I go back and watch the tape, is it
is it marred with a slant on the outside and
then a short sit. And I would just say, okay,
that's a quick game. You know, five out protection won't
want to get the ball out. But if it's play accent,
as I said, keep a max, you know, running back
(03:48):
in maybe another tight end and only let three guys out,
and you're trying to get a deep crossing route and
a post. But Will Rogers just doesn't like it, so
he checks down to his tight end. Well, that's an
entirely different play in my mind, and and it speaks
to what they were trying to do. Maybe they didn't
execute it, so uh. And then finally, I say, from
a from a coaching standpoint, the number one thing I
(04:10):
look at for offensive coaching is how does the team
handle blitz pick up? Uh? We expect Weaver to bring
some pressures. I don't know if it canna be man
pressures or zone. But if I see a seamless transition
and stunts and the offensive line is communicating the whole
all eleven or handling those stunts. You get a hat
on a hat and they're picked up and and you're fishing,
(04:31):
and you're and you're handling the blitz. That that tells me, Okay,
these guys kind of have their applicants. So I'm just
getting started. That's just offensive questions I have, Dave. But
you know, and of course the playmakers, right and and
with the offensive line in the running game, are you
pushing the line of scrimmage? Is that line of scrimmage
moving to your favor uh, towards the weaver a goal
(04:52):
line or and then in the passing game, you get
your your offensive line is gonna recede. But but it
can't be like some of our hairlines received fast. Like
you got to have a slow rate of recession in
your past, in your past protection. And so you know,
I just kind of want to see, okay, is there
some strength and some reason for hope with that opfensive line.
(05:14):
So that would be top of mind for me as
I scout the offense here.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Switching to the Hawks. Big year for Gino Smith.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
We had Mike Florio on this week and he called
Gino a bottom third of the NFL starting quarterback.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Do you agree with that assessment?
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Well, I think if you had to make me argue
if they were breaking down in thirds, right like, do
I think that he's twenty second or worse? I don't
think so. If you forced me to craft an argument
that he was in the bottom third, I would focus
on things like his his third down rates and where
(05:51):
they are last year. Last year as on third down
third down conversions, he was twenty seventh league. I would
focus on things like red zone. His passer rating was
twenty ninth in the NFL in the red zone. A
lot of people are saying that, well, he didn't have
the time to throw in the pocket, and so let
(06:15):
me focus on a time to throw. The NFL ranks this.
I have access to their database. The average time to
throw for all quarterbacks, all passes with two point four
to three seconds, So if you go above that level,
the pressure rate on Gino was forty nine eight seconds,
So every time he held the ball longer than the average,
(06:38):
he was pressured at forty nine point eight. Well, Pat
Mahomes was pressured at fifty point two. Brock Purdy was
pressured at forty eight point eight, so Gino's you know
stuff right in there basically exactly the same. But in
the middle, you know, okay, you get more granular. On
third down, you say, well, maybe Gino was pressured more
if you if you filter the falling third down in
(07:01):
the pocket, because sometimes you have bootlegs and that excus
the time to throw with two point four to three
seconds or left. Remember, now that's the average. So the
times were where Gino had less than the average. He
was at thirty two point four percent pressure rate. That's
pretty high. But guess who was number one, Dak Prescott.
(07:24):
Dak Prescott was thirty eight point one percent pressured and
he was second in the MVP voting, so he was
able to handle that. So look, I do think the
offensive line is a concern. If you go back to
twenty and twelve, uh, and you take the the you know,
(07:45):
the draft value charg Dave, the Jimmy Johnson one that's
been revised, the revised draft chart. If you go back
to twenty twelve, the year that Russ was drafted, and
you compare I've broke out the nerd machine last night.
If you compare the draft value dedicated to the offensive line,
(08:08):
the Seahawks are the fourth lowest in that duration. There
you go over the last ten ten years, they're the
tenth lowest. But you know they're generally depending on what
year you want to filter it from, you're talking in
the bottom ten in terms of the draft expenditure allocated
(08:29):
to offensive line. And then now for this year, the
salaries dedicated to the offensive line, they're dead last. They're
thirtieth a year ago thirty seconds. So there's absolutely an
argument you can build to be supportive of, you know,
as it relates to the protection and the just the
(08:51):
overall competency of that offensive line.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
Humilin with us again on the radio show is always
every Friday. Here came out the other day. Anybody surprise you,
any position group surprise you. From the Seahawks perspective.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
Ardi Burns was the name that got my attention. I
know he's been added to the practice squad and there's
a pathway to get him back on the field, but
just I thought he had shown enough that they wouldn't
want to risk that. I think he's a little better
in man coverage. Although, and going back over the preseason,
said well, what were some plays that may maybe were
(09:27):
off putting for Mike McDonald. He did get beat on
a deep intermediate crossing route on one play, ball didn't
go to the receiver, But there was another one the
very first play against Tennessee, first play of the game.
If you're going to play a too high structure the
way McDonald wants to do often, or at least show
(09:47):
it too high, you're going to have to have communication
with your linebackers and your nickel people down below. We've
talked about the stress on that. On the communicating first
lay of the game, John Radigan and Lady Burns they
do not handle the inside three receiver handoff the way
(10:09):
you want to in zone. And it led to about
a I don't a fourteen to fifteen yard game for
the Titans, and Burns just was out of position, and
so maybe that was a kind of a little of
a flight palm to the forehead for Mike McDonald. But yeah,
I think this's played for him on this team and
probably over the next seventeen weeks we'll see it. Here.
Speaker 5 (10:28):
We see Mike McDonald give the team days off before
he gave him the weekend off this weekend.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
What's your take on that.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Well, one thing that we should put into context is
McDonald came in and he looked at last year's Pete
Carroll training camp schedule and he compared it to what
he had done at Baltimore under John Harbaugh, and he
saw that there was enough of a discrepancy that he
wanted to make a change. And so for this year,
(10:58):
the Seahawks added thirty four more hours on the field
of practice time than they had a year ago. So
here in McDonald, the young guy came in in coming in,
and you know, he ran a relatively tight ship, and
I think that this was just a gesture saying, hey, listen,
you guys have locked in. You've done what I've asked
(11:19):
of you. You deserve a little time off to get
your batteries recharged. And so I think I think there'll
be a really good juice coming back on Tuesday, ready
to get out to the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
All right, man, real quick.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
You mentioned the Husky offense earlier, but failed to mention
the Husky defense. What do you think we'll see from
the udub defense tomorrow against Weaver State.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Well, from a personal standpoint, of course, he's looking for playmakers.
Is there somebody who's pushing the pocket either from the
middle or for the edge is there you know we've
we've got a familiar face in Carson Brunner out there,
but mostly new faces. From a scheme standpoint, I'm looking, Okay,
are they a one high team? Do they want to
(12:03):
get that extra defender down in the box? How active
do they want to be in terms of trying to
create scheme pressure problems, meaning zone blitzes and dropping off
defensive ends and the lay blitzes. If the sky's coverages
show it too high, drop to a one high late,
(12:24):
you'd say, okay, well that sounds like it would be
troubling for a quarterback. Why doesn't everybody do it? Well? First,
what second? You got to be out of position and
so because coordinator's got a weigh that so how much
of that is in play? Are they a press coverage team.
Do they feel like they have the corners that they
can just go cat coverage. My cat's better than your
(12:45):
cat and just play bumping run on the outside with
no safety help And do they think they have that
type of personnel or do they think they need to
protect guys and roll the coverages with a corner in
the flat on a sala zone with the safety over
the top, that type of stuff. So those are the
those are just kind of some of the basics of
the scheme. You know, we're just getting started, but that's
(13:07):
the scheme question I want answered, and we'll discuss on Monday.
But you know, you'll you'll know, Dave, you'll you'll see
the guys that are flying around and making plays and
then we can build our opinions about what how they're
going to look against Big ten opponents.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
All right, buddy, great stuff man, looking forward to it,
looking forward to seeing what Jed Fish the Fishman puts
out there Tomorrow four o'clock pregame, eight o'clock kickoff, and
then Hawk's next Sunday against Denver.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
We'll talk Friday.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
See you, man, Thanks you Okay, Rock and Roll, Go Dogs,
the Go Dogs.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
And Dude, I was on the air this morning where
Greg and Kid Kid tried to convert me into Cougar fan,
which you know, I'm not as opposed to that now
as I was maybe about ten months ago, because they're
such a different situation, Dick versus us. But come app
a cup time, I'll be good to go. But I
told those guys on the air if Jabbar Mohammad and
Dylan Johnson And this might be too big of a
(14:00):
stretch comparing these guys. Let's say, Jalen McMillan, we're all
coming back from last year's team, you'd feel better right
about where the Husky team is.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Well?
Speaker 1 (14:07):
Can they get what they thought they would get out
of Dylan Johnson from Jonah Coleman? If not, maybe even
more yes? Can they get what they thought they were
getting out of Jabar Mohammad from Price Sock? Can they
get what they were hoping to get from a guy
like McMillan out of Jeremiah Hunter for example, and maybe
even Denzel Boston out of those guys? So you know, look,
I mean the experienced chart that Phil Steele has every year,
(14:28):
Huskies are in like the one teams I think in
that category. But I think if all these guys were
on this football team a year ago, I think people
would think about it differently. But they just focus and
I get it, man, because they haven't played together, and
that's important. But they focus on the starters returning from
last year, and the number from last year's Husky football
team is zero. But you do have some guys back
(14:51):
on defense, You have some guys from Arizona's starting offense,
Arizona's starting defense. And I don't know, man, I don't
think seven or eight wins is crazy for.
Speaker 5 (14:59):
This football t I'm bullish on this team, I really am.
I think I think eight and four is absolutely doable.
I would agree nine and three is probably a stretch.
Everything would have to fall correctly for you. You'd have
to stay healthy the whole year, and I think health
is going to be the determining factor because the one
thing this team doesn't have that it's had in the
years past is depth. I mean, you just don't have
a lot of depth, particilarly, particularly on the line of scrimmages.
(15:20):
So if you get injuries, then yes, I could see
a quote unquote disaster coming of potentially missing a Bowl
game or going going six and six. But if they
stay relatively healthy, seven wins very doable, and I think
eight wins is not at all without of the realm possibility.
And I disagree with Chris Kidd. Chris kidds said best
(15:40):
case scenario six and six, And I'm willing to throw
down a little wager with Chris Kid the Kook if
he wants to take six wins or less, and I'll
take seven or more.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
I'd be happy to do that. I want in two.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
I already have the over, by the way, the over
five and a half. Actually it's the over six and
a half to the buddy of mine. So now I
feel good about that for sure. You know, look, I
mean in the end, I think the injuries are going
to happen.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
I'm not, you know, breaking new ground here with that.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Take Last year the offensive line, Dick was really lucky, right,
I mean, outside of Parker Brills for getting hurt for
that Arizona State game when they started Landon Hatchett and
I think I think Caleppo and was a below one
of them may have been banged up a little bit,
but for the most part, they were pretty damn healthy
on the offensive line. So you're exactly right if they
do have those injuries. I was watching some Will Rogers'
(16:27):
YouTube highlights this morning, and I got to tell you,
Husky fans will notice a huge difference from Michael Penix
to Will Rogers right away. He does not have the
arm strength that Michael Pennix has at all, and you
notice a lot more arc on his balls, by the way,
especially near the goal line, like the touchdown pass to
McMillan against Texas when he zinged it in there like
(16:47):
a rocket, like a missile. He doesn't have that ability, no,
but he what he has his four years of starting
experience in college football.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
He's he's accurate. He's going to know where to throw
the ball.
Speaker 5 (16:57):
And I think Husky fans a reasonable comp I think
they should expect what we got from Jake.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Browning later on in his career.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
And I know Jake Browning's best year was a sophomore year,
but I think you know, Jake Browning is junior senior year.
That's probably what we can expect baseline for wil Rogers
this year.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
All right, let's do this. We've got a break.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
We're gonna hear from Jed Fish coming up as well,
Danny Canell in the six pm hour, Dogs and Weeber
tomorrow four o'clock pre eight o'clock kickoff. Can you smell it?
That was just Jackson? Sorry, the game tomorrow though at
four o'clock kickoff, excuse me, four o'clock pre game, eight
o'clock kickoff right here on ninety three to three KJRFM.
Speaker 6 (17:32):
Live from the R and R Foundation specialists broadcast Studio.
Now back to Softie and Dick on your home for
the Huskies and the Craken Sports Radio ninety three point
three kjr FM.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Hey, we got Husky football on tomorrow, eight o'clock kickoff,
four o'clock pre game right here on ninety three to
three KJRFM.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
You mentioned that earlier.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
I think for Jerry that there's not a lot of
buzz for the Huskies right now. You feel that same way, Jackson.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Yeah, but I think the buzz is gonna pick up
real quick, real like it's just gonna skyrock.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Really No, I agree with that.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
If they if they get up for the start, we
think they're gonna get off to there's gonna be a
lot of buzz. I'm very curious to hear and feel
what the Apple Cup Week sounds like on this radio station.
I mean, god, that's guys. Apple Cup Week is a
week from Monday on this radio station. It's it's like
nine days away. Monday of Apple Cup Week is a
week from money.
Speaker 5 (18:25):
Well, he already says he doesn't care about the applicut?
Does that mean he's not gonna talk about.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
I'm not I and I can't help you there I
have no idea, but Weaver State Saturday again, San Juan
seltz are giving us a trip to the UW Oregon game.
Be shrink at the San Juan Seltzer dot com and
enter to win that. But Weaver State tomorrow, Eastern Michigan
Washington State kind of feel like three games the Huskies
should win. I'm a little more concerned about the Cougar game,
I guess than you are, but still favorites in that
and then Northwestern Rutgers before things get crazy, right, They've
(18:55):
got five ranked teams on their schedule right now and
all five are in the last seven games of the
year for U DUB Michigan, Iowa, Indiana, USC, Penn State, UCLA,
and Oregon. Five of those teams are ranked right now,
and three of them are in the top ten in Michigan,
Penn State, and Oregon. So what do we think is
(19:17):
gonna come here for Jetfish? I gotta be honest with you,
and I even want to punch myself in the face
for saying this. For the first time ever, I don't
really find myself concerned about wins and losses for DUB.
I mean, obviously, going you know, two and ten is
a disaster. Nobody wants that, right, But I don't find
myself sitting here.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
Going, oh, Jetfish gonna win eight games, there's gonna be
helt to pair you. I just don't have that feeling
right now.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
It's such a unique thing that we're living through with
forty four new guys and a brand new coaching staff
and playing for the national championship and everybody gone and
blah blah blah.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
It just feels so weird to me.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
I'm almost having a hard time Dick describing it right
the way. My emotions are kind of firing right now
out for Husky football. So I just want to get
out there tomorrow. I want to get a feel for
what this offensive line looks like. I want to get
a feel for how aggressive the offense is going to be.
We're gonna hear from jet Fish, by the way, about
fifteen minutes from now. And one of the questions I
asked him that I don't think anybody's asked him yet.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
This guy's the.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Play caller, right, Like what kind of play caller is he?
Is he aggressive? Is he conservative? Is it bombs away
like it was for Kaitlyn de Bor and Ryan Grabbing
Michael Pennix. I have no idea, So I'm just looking
forward to getting this thing going and fighting out what
the hell they're all about it.
Speaker 5 (20:29):
I'm really excited to watch the game tomorrow, and I'm
excited to go going to be doing the boat.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Go to Chinooks and get on the boat, go out.
Speaker 5 (20:35):
There's tickets still available for the boat, so check that
out at Schnooks. But you know, I thought that this
team would win about seven games. In kaylen Bor's first year,
they won eleven, right, I thought they'd win twelve. Last
year they won fifteen. So I'm like they've they've far
exceeded my expectations the last couple of years and five three,
(20:55):
and I think my expectations are probably slightly higher than most.
What I did was I put each game into five
different categories.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
All right, I've got okay, lock win, lock win, should win,
should toss up, toss, should lose, should walk loss. Okay,
So all right, let me let me give you the
the lock wins. Okay, weaver state YEP, Eastern Michigan, wazoo, No,
we were State Eastern Michigan. I believe you should beat
(21:26):
Northwestern and Indiana and UCLA.
Speaker 5 (21:29):
I put Northwestern in the lot. I have three lock wins. Okay, okay, Jackson,
you good with that? Northwest, Northwestern, we were state in
eastern Michigan, all.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
At home, all right? Got you give me where the
should wins? Should wins.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
They should beat Wazoo, they should beat Northwestern, they should
beat Rutgers. Now I'm gonna take that back. They should
beat Indiana, and they should beat Ucla.
Speaker 5 (21:49):
I got three should wins, Ucla, Wazoo in Indiana.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
So there's there's six right there.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
If you just win the should wins and the lock wins,
you've got a bowl game.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
And how many many those are? Six of them?
Speaker 3 (22:01):
Six?
Speaker 1 (22:02):
So let's say they kick one of them, which they're
prone to do, and they's gonna win one another game one, right,
So they go five to one. So the final six
games they have would be Michigan, Iowa, USC, Penn State.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
And Oregon, and Rutgers and Rutgers. So Rutgers is a
toss up. I got Rutgers and USC in my toss
up category.
Speaker 5 (22:19):
Because I'm yeah, I'm not sold on USC until USC
shows me that they can keep a team under forty.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
Well, here's the thing, though they may not be able
to be stopped from scoring forty, right. I mean it
could be the same fireworks show that we saw here
ago and they fired their defensive coordinator.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
I know that.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
Uh did he get fired after the UDUB game, the
old Cougar DC that went to Ohio State. Whi's his name,
the Grinchy? Yeah, down the I think he may even
whacked after the Husky game, or very near in that
Husky game. So I think you're right. The Rutgers game
is a toss up. The USC game to me is
a toss You have that in toss up or should
lose category?
Speaker 7 (22:53):
Anno?
Speaker 1 (22:54):
I have it as a toss up because it's at home.
It's at Husky Stadium, Yes, totally. If it was down there,
maybe I'd feel little diferently. And how do you divide
up the last two category? We have four games left,
Michigan home at Iowa, right at Oregon at Penn State.
I've got two in each category, and they should lose category.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
And they will lose category.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
I'm gonna I'm gonna say these should loses or Michigan
Iowa and they will lose their Penn State in Oregon
exactly right.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Yeah, those exactly what I got. Yeah, what do you think, No, Jackson.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
I would say the Locke loses Michigan and they should
lose is Penn State.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
Okay, well, I'm gonna tell you this right now, and again,
it's so far away. It's three months from now. I
think I am just going into twenty twenty four, assuming
that Oregon's going to murder us.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
Yeah, ga and whatever.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
I mean, we got them last year, they'll they'll they'll
never play a bigger game ever than that game against
the Ducks. We can shove that down there, freaking prouts
as long as they live.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
So you want to get us? Can we do one thing, though?
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Can we promise one thing if Washington does beat Michigan
somehow someway, if they do beat Michigan, can we please
not use the word revenge?
Speaker 4 (23:53):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Can somebody please guarantee we're not gonna go on the
air like a bunch of jackals on Monday and so.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
We've got revenge?
Speaker 1 (24:00):
No, dude, you don't get revenge in a national championship
in a game in October.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
You know, Ian though, is gonna take the air and say,
like I saw, Husky's got their revenge.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
No, people, gonna say that's that's his problem. But there's
no way I'm doing that. It's said me, dude.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
There was an idiot that played for Denver that said
they see the Broncos got revenge on the Seahawks after
the Super Bowl loss in a preseason game the next year.
I'm telling you, look up. I'm not making that up.
Some moron said that after the preseason game. So we
just promised that we don't do that. So if they
go five and one in the six games that are
locks and shoulds, can they go Can they go two
(24:34):
and four in the next six games and then win
a bowl game and win eight games?
Speaker 2 (24:38):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (24:39):
I mean I think I think seven and five is
the most likely scenario of anything. But I do think
I think eighten four and six and six are pretty
much a toss up as to what's what's next. I mean,
I just think they're gonna be a pretty good team.
I think they're gonna give Michigan a good game. I'm
not yet sold on one mission. Michigan has lost a ton.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
Yeah, but the guy they promoted was the guy who
stepped in for Still.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
I also have a lot coming back to a good
coach Harbaugh's a phenomenal coach, right, A great coach?
Speaker 2 (25:10):
Is Sean Moore a great coach? I don't know. I
mean the pressure is on him. He's got to keep
this thing going, right.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
I mean, honestly, there may not be a coach and
I mean outside of kailin to Moore, who took over
for Nick Saban. I don't know if there's a coach
in America who's got bigger shoes to fill than this guy.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
Right, say, the interesting way you preface the topics off,
he was, you know, not really caring about wins and
losses as much. And I care about wins and losses
for the two reasons that we just went over Bowl game,
but also I think there is a certain win threshold
where if he hits a certain number, he will get
hired by Florida. Because we know Florida is going to
inevitably go have a terrible season, they'll fire their head coach.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
They'll be looking for a guy. Well that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
That's one of my point is that if you Dubb
wins a certain amount of games, they will have a
certain status around the country and then Orda will say,
all right, Jedfish has done it in Arizona.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
He's done it with you, Dub.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
He's at that status where we can bring him in
and appe's the fan.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
Base, like I said earlier, just people I talked to
and I'm just having conversations with. You know, Bozo's in
the business like us. They all think, Man, Jedfish has
really got to kill it. He's got to he's gotta
be Like in the National Coach of the Year conversation
from Florida to one.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
Nine wins.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Nine wins is the number I think, honestly, I think
if Jedfish has ever offered the Florida job, I think
he takes it. Yeah, I think he takes it. And
that the reason why this stuff comes up. Jedfish moves around.
You're you're blind as a bat if you don't even
I mean, can we just admit that for God's sakes,
like we can't even admit the sky's blue. We're gonna
just put our head in the sand and blah blah blah.
He moves around, He's joked about it billion and eight.
(26:42):
Piers on the.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Hot seat big time at Florida.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
He told you what the media thing that he wears,
the visor is an homage to Steve Spurrier.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
I mean, guys, what are we doing here?
Speaker 6 (26:50):
Right?
Speaker 1 (26:51):
And he has no problem packing up and moving fast.
That's right, He's done that over his career.
Speaker 5 (26:55):
I just think that there is a baseline of what
the Husky record is when they have a competent head coach. Right,
Let's think back at their competent head coaches over the
last twenty five years. What's the worst they have done
when they have had a competent head football coach?
Speaker 2 (27:12):
Like seven wins?
Speaker 1 (27:13):
The only guy that The only guys that were under
five hundred were Jimmy Lake and Ty Willingham and Keith Gilbertson.
But Gilby was you'll be different because you fell on
the sword for the school after the new heisl thing.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
But yeah, I mean, you go under five hundred when
you have an incompetent Tyrone Willingham.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
But the problem for me and I totally agree with that.
That's what history has said so far. But history hasn't
included forty four new guys. History hasn't included the transfer portal.
History hasn't included nil and all this nonsense going on.
I mean, how much do we have to just say, Okay,
the old ways don't apply anymore. We can't judge this
(27:48):
stuff like we used to. That goes into all this
emotion for tomorrow. For me, they got no idea. I
just think this. If he can find a way to
be consistent and be in every game they play this
year with a whole, brand new foot ball team, it's
going to be impressive. We'll hear from Jetfish next on
ninety three three kJ r FM.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
My from the r n R Foundation Specialist Broadcast Studio.
Now back to Softie and Dick on your Home for
the Huskies and the Cracking Sports Radio ninety three point
three kJ r FM.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
Sorry, sorry, I'm ready.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Can you hear me? Do you know what the problem is?
What's going on? Headphones? You're broken? They're broken? No, No,
they're it's there. They're just not working right. Oh no,
everything's falling.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Did you hear me when I was telling you Jedfish invite, Yes?
Speaker 2 (28:51):
I did. I did.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
I'm sorry. I was crafting a post on Twitter at
the same time.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Take an airtime to know it.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
I just I just can't hear a thing. These headphones
are could put men. I don't know what the hell
was going on here, dude, I got no idea. I
like to, you know, mess around with stuff a lot,
you know, little fidgety and when your fidgety man, things break.
This breaks, microphone breaks, the headphone, cable breaks, everything.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Breaks, just like us.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
I'm watching Kaitlin Clark just kill it right now too,
for the fever aunts the sky. This is like, how
about we just give the Rookie of the Year to
whoever wins this game tonight?
Speaker 2 (29:20):
Can we do that?
Speaker 1 (29:21):
Because Kaitlin Clark's got twenty one points on seven of
eleven shooting, and Angel Reese is two to seven with
five points and seven boards, and she keeps rebounding her
own misses.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
By the way, does well, Kaitlin Clarks should win the
Rookie of the Year. I'm excited that Indiana's on right
before our game, which hopefully lead a lot of eyeballs
to our game to night at seven o'clock on I On,
do me a favor.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
I want you to pick your nose live on the
air at some point tonight, All right, can you do?
I want you to shove your finger up your nose.
It's like Jeff Hornseck when he used to scratch his
face faces. That's you saying hello to us?
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Can you can you do that for us?
Speaker 4 (29:53):
On the ear?
Speaker 1 (29:54):
Jed Fish had a chance to catch up with Jed
yesterday over at you dub, and I asked, what is
a Friday night like for him?
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Especially before game one? Is the husky head coach?
Speaker 8 (30:06):
Not a lot of sleep, a lot of anxiety. And
it's not the anxiety of the game itself. It's the
anxiety of not knowing the unknown. It's haven't seen this
team play together, haven't seen this team do things together?
All the changes that have occurred within our program. This
is my first time running out of the tunnel here
at Washington. You know, there's I get anxious about a
(30:28):
lot of things. You know, is the music going to
be right? Is the crowd going to be excited? Are
we going to have a lot of people with the
dog walk?
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Do we have?
Speaker 6 (30:36):
You know?
Speaker 8 (30:36):
Am I gonna make sure that the headset doesn't you know,
have an issue? Are we going to be able to
get to those wristbands.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
If we need them? Are all those things keep me up? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (30:46):
Is this going to be a thing with you that
maybe there's things that you shouldn't worry about, but you
will worry about and everyone just has to get used
to that.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Yeah, I think I think that's right.
Speaker 8 (30:57):
I think, in my mind, you do have to worry
about it because if anything that touches our program and
touches our players in the end, it's my responsibility to
make sure it's right. And I want to make sure
that our guys know that this is a player centric
program and everything that we're going to do is for them.
And if that means making sure that the locker rooms
a certain way, or making sure the weight rooms a
(31:18):
certain way, or making sure that I call the right
plays on Saturday, that's going to be my focus in
my time and my energy and our staff's energy and
our staff's time, And that's just kind of how I
know it.
Speaker 7 (31:29):
We've had some elite play callers around here lately, Jonathan Smith, obviously,
Ryan Grubb, Steve Sarkesian. Talk about yourself as a play caller,
We've talked about you as a head coach, as a CEO.
What would be some hallmarks of Jedfish as a play
caller that we will see on Saturday.
Speaker 8 (31:45):
Well, I think that's just you know, it's my job
to move the ball and to make sure that we
do the best possible way to score.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
The most amount of points.
Speaker 8 (31:54):
I've called a lot of games at this point now,
I think almost every game that I've coached since two
thousand and so, there's been a lot of games there
of this calling plays, and depending on the team, there
might have been twenty two passes called, and other teams
there might have been forty five passes called.
Speaker 4 (32:12):
You know.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
So we've had some really.
Speaker 8 (32:14):
Good quarterbacks and wide receivers that have come through, but
we've also had first and second round pick running backs
and offensive linemen. So our goal and Jake Putts calling
the game, and Jake was one of our you know,
best tight ends and best receivers and won the National
Award for it.
Speaker 7 (32:29):
Yeah, when you think about the curiosities you mentioned, there's
just things you don't know. I've been harping on the
offensive line on my show over and over again. Is
it fair to kind of focus on that or is
there maybe a part of this football team that you're
thinking about more than maybe another.
Speaker 8 (32:44):
Well, I think it's fair to focus on that. But
I think for me in my role, I focus on
every position offense and defense because none of it's really known.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
We don't really know.
Speaker 8 (32:55):
How EFI and Mkeel and cam Fab and bat ej
are going to work together. Georgia Shawl was at Indiana,
if he was at Arizona. You know, like I said,
we don't know, right, We don't know what that's going
to look like. We don't know how the front is
going to connect. We don't know how the receivers are
going to play together. So I think it's everything. I
(33:15):
worry about it all, but you can worry about whichever one.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
You want to.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
Well, thank you.
Speaker 7 (33:18):
I appreciate that we've talked about, and you've talked about
wanting these guys to play with great effort, great intensity.
I think I have in my mind what I would
imagine that would look like.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
What does that look like for you?
Speaker 7 (33:27):
What should fans in the stands and watching on TV
be looking for Saturday to see whether or not that's happening.
Speaker 8 (33:34):
I hope that they see eleven guys swarming the ball.
I hope they see a lot of fire and passion
after every tackle. I don't want it to be a
dull environment on the field. I don't want it to
be I get the whole business like environment. That's not
really what they signed up for here.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
With us.
Speaker 8 (33:51):
So if we don't feel that energy and the passion
from our sideline, if we don't see the celebrations by
our team, then we're not executing what we wanted to
look like. I want to see you guys and a
team that plays with their heart.
Speaker 7 (34:05):
First, yeah, and then last, but at least Will Rogers
first time for a lot of fans to watch this
kid play. I don't know how many folks here watch
Mississippi State football on the West coast, but for a
lot of us, the first time to watch him play.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
What should fans expect? What do you expect out of
Will Rogers starting Saturday?
Speaker 8 (34:21):
A really composed kid, an adult actually the hind center
that that's kind of how I look at him, Like
he's in control. He knows what we're supposed to be doing.
He gets frustrated with himself if it's not perfect. But
in the end, you're going to see a kid that
or a guy that is really comfortable at playing the
position a quarterback, and certainly one that has been played
(34:43):
in a long time.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Week one is here. Go get him. We appreciate this,
we'll talk soon. Let's do it.
