Speaker 1 (00:00):
As part of our exclusive in depth coverage of the NFL,
Your Home for the twelfth Man proudly presents former Seahawks
head coach and Super Bowl champion Mike Congren. Brought to
you by Toyota of Kirkland. The championship team of Toyota
of Kirkland does all the little things that exceed your expectations,
and that's what makes Toyota of Kirkland so special. By

(00:22):
R and R Foundation Specialists, by Seattle Shade and on him,
cut the glare, not the view, and by working more
the Northwest Workwear Superstore. Now Mike Congren on Sports Radio
ninety three point three KJR FM.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
All right, boys and girls, we are back at the
Emerald Queen Casino. I know Mike Holmgren is probably settling
in at his favorite share, get his comfy pants on.
We got a bowl of popcorn, maybe a beer, getting
ready to watch his buddy Andy Reid open up defense
of his NFL championship as he goes for something no
man has ever done, win three straight Super Bowls. Mike,

(01:01):
how are you?

Speaker 3 (01:02):
I'm doing good, Dave, and it's you know what, here
we go, It's starting and I couldn't have a better
matchup than tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
No, I love it. Hey tell me about that, because
obviously Andy's not thinking about winning the super Bowl tonight
against Baltimore. But he's not an idiot. He knows he's
won two in a row. He knows what's on the horizon.
Do you think he ever even thought sat down with
himself and his thoughts in a quiet moment and thought, man,
one more and I've got three in a row for

(01:29):
the first time ever. Is that something you would think about?

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Well, you know what, I think I'd be dishonest if
I said you wouldn't think about it. But you know, yeah,
he's thought about it. But look, it's a long season
and he knows what he has to do and it's
really hard to get Listen, what he's done right now
is almost impossible right now to do it again, that
would be really something. But I think he's thought about it,

(01:55):
but it's way in the back of his mind.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yeah. What do you think the biggest challenge is going
to be for them? Honestly for Kansas City?

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Well, you mean tonight or just just in general.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah, I mean, if you want to break down the
game tonight, go for it. I just mean the whole year.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Yeah, the whole year. No, I mean, you know, it's
hard having been there and won a Super Bowl and
going back and trying to get another one. That's hard.
Now he's done it a couple of times. This is
this is really really difficult for the Chiefs. I mean
said that, I think the team itself is in the
best hands they could be. And he is really a

(02:31):
good coach. Yeah, and he keeps saying from perspective, and
they got the best quarterback right now in football.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Well. One of the things I really noticed and remember
noticing Mike when the Seahawks had their little run is
walking into that locker room in twenty twelve and thirteen
and fourteen, and even really in fifteen and seeing all
that talent, right yeah, yeah, yeah, Look there you see Sherman,
You look there, you see Marshawn Russell, Wilson, They, Doug Baldwin,
you know, all these Cam Chancellor just incredible players. And

(02:59):
you that when you were with San Francisco as a
coordinator and you had it when you were in Green
Bay that these guys are just they're like rock stars, man,
everywhere they go. And I just wonder how much Andy's
had to kind of deal with that and all the
outside noise, you know, Taylor Swift invading the entire lexicon
of Chief Football. How much is Andy had to kind
of manage all that and the egos that go along

(03:20):
with this, you know what.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
And remember when he came on the show, our show,
your show last year. I asked him about that, you know,
and teased him a little bit, but he he handled heed.
It's really something to handle it, I mean he is. Yeah,
that enters into your locker room and it enters into
what everyone's talking about, and you have to, I think
shut some of that noise out. And he's done it

(03:45):
about as well as you could possibly do it. You know.
It's really been something. You know, the Taylor Swift thing.
That's a huge thing, and you know it, bless his heart,
he's done.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
It now, no question. Mike Congrin's with us, who's also
a big Taylor Swift. He's a swiftee. We all know
that you and Kathy big Swift fans over there in Kirkland.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
But we are too.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Well, yeah, I love it. Let me ask you about
the other team we talked about that you coach for
Green Bay because they're gonna be playing in Brazil tomorrow night.
We got the game on KJAR against the Eagles. I mean,
I have no idea kind of what the crowd is
going to look like. I'm sure they'll be pumped up.
You know, NFL goes anywhere and people go bananas for it.
But first of all, making an international trip like that
to a place like sal Polo, who's never hosted an

(04:28):
NFL game, are there things as a head coach that
you're concerned about for that game that you never have
been concerned with and likely never will be concerned with.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Again, Oh, I'm absolutely sure about that. In fact, I
mentioned the gap they said, talked about the game a
little bit, and he goes, I'm sure, glad, I never had
to do anything like that, because no, you know, it's
it's it's a long long ways. And I remember when
they were trying to get teams to they Paul Taglabu
would go around and ask teams that they'd go to

(04:58):
Japan and go to places in pre season in the
old days. And I finally he came to me and
he goes, please, I'd like you to go to Japan.
You know, so they say out Paul, you know, he
goes no, please, you know, so I wind up doing it.
But that was Japan. This is this is this is
a regular season game that counts. I read something in
the paper where they're saying, don't leave the hotel. You

(05:20):
can't leave the hotel. You know, it's it's kind of
scary out there on the streets and stuff. I mean,
come on, you know. Uh. And then the flat plane ride,
Oh my goodness, no, you know, bless their hearts. They're
they're they're doing it, and they're doing it. I guess.
I guess the money is too good and all that
kind of stuff. But no, I wouldn't be a big
fan of that one.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Got it kind of reminds me of the story that
you told when you got on the bus. Were you
in Jordan? Is that right? You're getting on a bus
in Jordan and a guy gets on the bus and says,
are you Mike Holmgren? Remember that?

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Can you tell that? Can you tell that story real
quick again?

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Yeah? Real quick. We're on we're on a tour. We
go to Israel, and then we were taking over to
Alan B Bridge into and I'm looking out the bus
window and there's about thirty forty people on the bus
and here here is three of they look like hoods,
you know, they muscles and they cut off t shirts
and tit tattoos and everything. And so I get off
and one of the guys goes, hey, aren't you coach Omgren?

(06:17):
I said, I said yeah. So I started talking to
him and one of the guys came out. They'd gotten
some food and they came out with the food and stuff.
Opens the trunk to put the food in there, and
there's all these guns and rifles and all sorts of
stuff in there and he so he closes it right away.
I go, what do you guys do over here? And

(06:40):
he goes, we help people. Said so. Then kat I go, okay,
don't ask any more questions. Then Kathy comes over, comes
out the bus and goes, hey, how are you guys?
What do you guys do? I go, Katy, you know? So?
Then we last thing I say is we so to
go in. The people in our bus got in and

(07:02):
we got a candy bar and stuff. Got back on
the bus and I look out in our bus tour
director he's arguing with this big, huge guy with a beard.
He's got some in his hand and he's pointing at
me and he's yelling at the window. Mike, tell him
we're friends. Tell him we're friends. Outside, go outside and
go ron. He goes, what's the matter. He goes, he
wants to get on the bus. He can't get on

(07:23):
the bus. He wanted to see you on the bus.
So I said okay, and he goes, no, listen, listen,
and he pulls out a Green Bay Packer T shirt.
Then he wanted me to sign it. That's all he wanted.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
That's awesome, good, good for you. Man. Internationally known Mike
Holgrin even by the mercenaries and in Jordan, that is unbelievable. Well,
Mike Congrin's with us. And I remember when Bill Walsh
called the Huskies a bunch of mercenaries up in Seattle
because all they were doing is just like higher guns.
And I mean that wasn't really true, and I think
Bill was being a little bit unfair. Definitely mercenaries now

(07:57):
in college football. But how about the guys in the
NFL that I'm looking for new deals? I mean, Dak
Prescott's got a fifty five million dollar cap and Jerry
hasn't given the guy a new contract yet. What the
hell's going on down there.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
I don't know. David I said he's gonna sign him,
you know, if he's gonna wait and Dak wants to
mess around, Jerry will make the decision the financially, he'll
make the right decision for the Cowboys that we know,
right But the money now, you know, if we've talked
about it before, the money, the money is out. It
is crazy. It's just absolutely crazy. But that's the way

(08:32):
the league is right now. They're in such a good
and with all the streaming and all the stuff that's
going on. The money it's just he can't talk about
it anymore because it's so big.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Yeah, yeah, Well I'm looking at DK metcalf. He's got
two years left on his contract, so the Seahawks can
watch him for a year, Mike in Ryan Grubbs offense
and see what he's all about before they make a decision.
But I guess the question would be, if he was
about to become a free agent, his contract wreck was up,
and you had to give him one of those big,
fat money wide receiver deals, would you do that right now?

(09:05):
With DK? We just still want to wait.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
I'd want to wait right now, And I and I
love I love the player. I've got to see, you know,
And people say, well, he's got it, he's got it
all I said, I know, but I got I'd wait,
I'd wait. And then if he just shoots lights out
this year with the new offense and the new coach
and everything, then he's going to get hit. He's going

(09:28):
to get a great hit. But I would I wouldn't
do it right now? Now?

Speaker 2 (09:32):
What is the Mike Corman's with us on the ear?
What is the biggest challenge for Ryan Grubb going to
be starting Sunday against the Broncos. He's transitioning from college
football to the NFL. What is the biggest challenge going
to be for for for Ryan as a play caller
in college versus now a play caller in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Well, I think the things that worked for him beautifully
at the University of Washington and and that was a
fun offense to watch that it's going to be different.
And so if all of a sudden, something that he
thinks should work and they worked it and it doesn't
work because it worked in college and all that, he
just has to be patient and he has to realize

(10:12):
he can't get frustrated because it's different, He's going against
different players, and there's a little bit of a learning curve. Now,
he is really a good coach, but there's a little
bit of a learning curve I think coming. And he's
never coached in the NFL before, But I have a
lot of confidence in him. I had a chance to
meet him and talk to him a little bit over
at the facility a while back, and I think he's

(10:34):
going to get it done just right. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Do you remember when you made the jump from BYU
to the NFL and kind of what some of the
oh my god, really that's the way things work here
in the NFL moments were for you.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
Yeah, oh absolutely. You know. I told the story to
another story that in our meetings at Coach Walsh at
night at nine o'clock in training camp, that he used
to write down little things on cards to every player
during prior to the coaches meeting. He'd go through his
cards to say, you know, Bob McKittrick, you should have
done this and so well. And then you get to

(11:05):
meet and he'd have ten cards and he goes, well
you did this, you did this. No, don't do this,
don't do that, and so he'd leave the room, and
Fred von Oppen kept the tally of the cards and
he goes in Second place is sherm Lewis with ten cards,
ten criticisms. Our leader with fifty seven cards is Mike Hombe.

(11:27):
You know, so I had a learning curve.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
I did, oh god, that's funny. Well, and then you know,
Mike McDonald. I just kind of feel like the Seahawks
have two head coaches. They're going to head coach for
the defense and a head coach for the offense, right,
And I realized that Mike McDonald is the guy on
paper obviously, but he's he's hiring a rookie offensive coordinator
who's never caught a play in the NFL, and Mike
McDonald has never been a head coach in the National

(11:51):
Football League. I mean, tell me about that about how
much you think Mike will get involved with the offense.
How much should he be involved with the offense.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
Well, I think he's just knowing him a little bit
the way I know him, he's going to be involved
in the whole thing. It said, listen, I hired really
good defensive coordinators and pretty much let him be. But
then every once in a while, you go into their office,
shut the door, and you kind of have a come
to Jesus meeting, you know. And But but as far
as the game plan and calling the game, you know,

(12:23):
I told you anything. I click him on, I said,
go after him. Forget about that, just go after him. Now,
pressure them. And that's all I wouldn't That's as far
as I got. But you have to trust the guys
you hire. Then they know if they have that kind
of responsibility, then it's up to them. It's got to work.
If it doesn't work, then all of a sudden, other
things happen, you know. But that's how I would do it,

(12:44):
and I'm sure Mike's feel in the same way. But
this is his first go round as well. I just
think of my time in my first job in Green Bay,
and that's how I did it. And I think I
think he'll do a really good job that way. He'll
let him, He'll let him work.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Yeah, well, where are you at with Gino Smith? Is
he the long term answer at quarterback after the Yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
Like we said with like we said with DK, I
think Dino is I've always been you know this, I've
always been a fan of his, in his in his corner,
and this is a huge year for him that way,
because he's still young enough he could he could have
a few more years under his belt. But I think
he has to have a really good year this year.
And so you know, we go back to maybe what

(13:27):
he did two years ago, and that might be the
difference in the coordinators right now and the guy who's
calling the plays for him.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
Yeah, you know, speaking of that, Mike and Mike homeran
with us. We're about an hour away from kickoff. Baltimore
and Kansas City in the NFL opener. Kevin harl and
Kurt Warner, two guys you know very well. Obviously, one
of those guys played for you in Green Bay and Curtin.
You grew up with Kevin when he was running around
the office as a baby with his diapers. I'm when
Bob ran the team. I'm just curious about the Bears

(13:54):
and Caleb Williams and Roman dunes A. Chicago went out
and they took Caleb Williams No. Number One, and they've
got Shane Waldron as their offensive coordinator. I mean, we
saw Shane here in Seattle. I was underwhelmed. I don't
know what your thoughts are on him. But are you
a little bit surprised that Chicago, knowing they had the
number one pick in the draft, knowing they were most
likely going to take Caleb Williams, gave the responsibility of

(14:18):
Caleb williams future to Shane Waldron.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Well, I think he'll do a better job there than
he did with the Seahawks. But I think he will
be given that responsibility more, even more than he had
it here. I believe Pete entered into that a little bit,
and I think it probably hurt Shane just a little bit.
But he's got it. Listen, there's some pressure on him, certainly.

(14:44):
You've got a guy like Caleb Williams and their team
got a good defensive team there. But the Bears, you know,
the Bears have been averaged for a long time, and
so now they've got after this, they got to step
up and get it done. And they really helped themselves
on offense. It should work better this year.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Yeah, Well, he's got a defensive minded guy, just like
Ryan Grubb does and Eberless, are you sorry Ebit for this?
So the job really belongs to him of running the offense.
Mike Comgrian's with us for a few more minutes. Hey, Mike,
have you heard of this rail and teen story from
the Commanders? Have you have you heard about this?

Speaker 3 (15:19):
I read something of it, right, but I didn't. I
didn't know.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
I'll just tell you, well, this guy is the it was.
He just got fired. He's the VP of content previous
four years for the Commanders, and he went on a
dating app, right, you know, the whole uh you know,
tender thing whatever. Goes on a dating app, finds a
girl that he wants to go have a beer with
and starts running his mouth about the Commanders being anti gay,

(15:45):
said Jerry Jones, as racist, called Roger Goodell a fifty
million dollar puppet, said all the commander fans or mouth breathers.
He says all these things to this gal, thinking he's
on a date. But it turns out the gal was
an undercover reporter and was like recording the whole thing
and put it out on social media, and the commander

(16:05):
saw it and said, you're fired. I mean, what the hell.
Poor bastard's trying to find a girlfriend and he ends
up getting whacked because the gal. I mean, first of all,
you know, shame on her for not disclosure that she's
in the media. That's horrible. Would you have fired the
guy if you're if you're the owner, if you're the
head coach of the GM, would you have fired this
guy when he thought he was just talking to a
gal he's on a date with.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
Well, the problem is, I don't like how that sounds
to me. That the fact that she I don't know
if she knew, did she know he was a football
guy and all that kind of stuff. You know, I
think that was a little bit weird to me. But
he they had no choice, you couldn't. He probably said
three of the four of the worst things you could

(16:46):
say about certain people in the league. There was just
no way that they were going to let that thing slide, right.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
John Gruden had that watch it, you know absolutely. I mean,
what is with that organization? Though? Look, I know they
have a new owner, you know, d Q, your new
head coach, all that stuff, and what is it about
the commander's organization where these things keep happening to them?

Speaker 3 (17:07):
I don't know, I don't know how long is that?
How long was that guy with the organization?

Speaker 2 (17:11):
Four years? So he was there with Snyder?

Speaker 3 (17:13):
Okay, yeah, and then at some point you probably have
to just when you say clean house, you really have
to clean house with serious cleanser.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
You know, no doubt. All right, you're the man, great stuff.
Enjoy the game tonight and we're talking a week. Coach,
appreciate this, pal.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
Okay, but listen, Jack has said, I only had you're
cutting me off to talk to Kevin Harland.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
Yeah, he's on next. You want to stick around and
say hello?

Speaker 3 (17:37):
No, but where's I took Kevin everything?

Speaker 2 (17:39):
He knows, uh well, because because he wanted to come
on the air and talk to us today. He normally
does his show on Wednesday, but he wanted to do
it today from the booth. I'll tell him that you're
pissed off.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
I'll tell me he's.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
Off Mike's Christmas list. I'll explain that next. All right,
all right, all right, man, we'll talking a week. My
conger with us. Kevin Harlan is in the booth at Arrowhead.
He'll join us next.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
They are NFL champions, the Seattlesyhawks have one Super Bowl
forty eight.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
On Sports Radio ninety three point three KJR FM.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
All right, boys and girls, here we go. It is
the segment everybody has been waiting for. Good Lord, nothing
means NFL football until the arrival of the voice of
football in America. Our friend once again back courtesy of
the Emerald Queen Casino. Our people have met his people's
giant financial demand. We have struck a deal, and we

(19:01):
are proud to announce that Kevin Harlan has returned to
the radio station courtesy of the Emerald Quick Casino, and
he joined us right now live from Arrowhead Stadium, literally
minutes before kickoff tonight against Baltimore. Kevin, welcome back. How
are you man.

Speaker 4 (19:16):
I'm doing great, Softy, great to be on with you
and join kJ R for another season talking about the NFL.
So many great stories. One of the of course up
in the Pacific Northwest with your Seahawks. But thrill to
be back with you. And we always have a good
time talking every Wednesday. Well we do, even though it's Thursday.
Even though it's Thursday, we're talking Wednesdays, right.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
Is that right? Well, we're talking Wednesdays. We'll start that, okay,
because you know you were all like, you know, weird
about this and wanted to do it from the booth
and get on before the game and all that stuff,
And I'm fine with that, man.

Speaker 4 (19:48):
You know, yeah, I had family things to do yesterday,
more more important things than although you're like, you've become
like family to.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
Me, so god well listen. Likewise, just first of all,
give us an idea of of what Kansas City is like.
I know, you got a place out there, you live
there half the year. You know how much they're buzzing
for this football team is they try and do something
that no team's ever done, Kevin and win a third
straight Super Bowl. What's the atmosphere going to be like
in that stadium tonight.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
Well, if anybody is built to do it, it's this
head coach and this quarterback. And if any team is
built to do it. I think it's this team. They've
They've got a lot of confidence in what they did
last year. One year they won it two years ago
with offense. Last year they won the Super Bowl with defense.
And as I was talking with Kurt Warner driving over here,
he said, the great thing is now it looks like

(20:35):
they're both on the same plane. They've both got equal
impact on the game. They're not offensive heavy, they're not
defensive heavy. They're good in both areas. Their defense is
number two. The offense was middle of the road, but
that's because they had some injuries and some things they
had to kind of contend with. They've rebuilt the receiving corps.

(20:56):
Their quarterback is a year deeper into this system. They're
creating all the time new ways to attack on offense,
and they've got the confidence of two straight Super Bowl wins.
I think this That last year in the regular season
was not smooth by any definition. It was not an

(21:16):
easy regular season. In fact, here Darrow had on Christmas
they were hit by the Raiders and lost, and people
were saying, uh oh, here is a major red flag.
From that point on, the season spun around. It was
probably the best thing to happen to them this year.
I think they go in with a real not that

(21:37):
they didn't enter last year with the purpose, but here
they have a chance to do something historic, something no
team has ever done. Green Bay did it twice. Green
Bay did it late twenties, in the thirties. Green Bay
did it in the sixties in the middle sixties with
three consecutive championships in this era of football, and you
can't disregard what green Bay did. But in the Super

(22:00):
Bowl era, it's never been done. And so that's what
makes this really kind of one of those seasons where
they're going to be in the crosshairs even more so
than they have been the best.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Yeah, Well, Kevin Harlan's joining us again courtesy of the
emeral Quick Casino. He'll be with us starting next week
every Wednesdays live from Arrowhead for tonight's kickoff, and Kevin
the other team that you're kind of near and dear
to the Packers tomorrow in Brazil. I'm seeing people picking
Green Bay to win the NFC and face this Kansas
City team in the Super Bowl. Are you buying that?

Speaker 4 (22:30):
Well, I would say this. I would say the best
team in the NFC is evenly kind of swatted with
Green Bay Detroit. I think the Rams are involved in this.
From the NFC, clearly the Eagles. I think Atlanta is improved.
San Francisco probably is the flag bearer, is the flagship

(22:54):
of the of the NFC. But they've got some issues
themselves they're dealing with, and that's going to be an
interesting story. We're gonna see them, by the way Monday
against the Jets and Aaron Rodgers. The best NFC quarterback
might be Matthew Stafford with the Rams, and so I
think you're always beginning with who's got the best quarterback,
and that probably is Stafford. Win healthy, They've rebuilt their

(23:17):
team nicely. The Rams are gonna be one of the
more interesting stories as the season goes on. But Green Bay,
with Jordan Love, a terrific and deep receiving corps and
a new defensive coordinator with very good parts, remains the
youngest team in the NFL for a second consecutive year.
They were also the youngest team in the history of

(23:40):
the NFL Playoffs to win a game in the playoffs
on the road, which they did last year in Dallas.
So Green Bay clearly is the forefront with the Rams,
the Lions, the Eagles, the forty nine ers, It's pretty
parceled out there. It's gonna be, I think, a race
much like the AFC, which is loaded, and I think
it's going to be the team that can serve vibe

(24:00):
their division because you're gonna be cannibalizing each other with
all these great quarterbacks. I mean, if Deshaun Watson Cleveland
becomes anything like he was, think of this conference in
terms of the quarterbacks, beginning with Mahomes and then going
to the MVP in Lamar Jackson, then going to Burrow
went healthy, and going to Josh Allen in Buffalo, and

(24:23):
Herbert in Los Angeles, and uh, the excitement around bow
Nix and Denver. I mean, you go right on down
the line and all. And of course CJ. Stroud in
Houston is probably is talked about a quarterback because you're
gonna find so there are so many great stories coming
into this league this season and it's it's gonna be
I think it could be the greatest season the NFL

(24:45):
has ever had.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Well really, what, Yeah, there's a lot of storylines. Man
Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh, He's going to start the opener.
I mean, he's got a calf injury already, he was
limited in practice today. He's on his third team now
since since joining the NFL. How do you think Russell
Wilson does in Pittsburgh And how how hot is that
seat already with Justin Field sitting there waiting to play.

Speaker 4 (25:05):
Well, I don't know. I don't know about his supporting
cast in Pittsburgh, and I just he he is. He
is out to prove people wrong. Listen, his numbers last
year with Denver were very respectable. You saw what he did.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
He just there was.

Speaker 4 (25:21):
There just wasn't a lot around him, and they they
really didn't get any traction like they kind of thought
they would. The quarterback and head coach clearly were never
on the same page. So going to Pittsburgh, a place
he was wanted by a coach that knows players and
Mike Tomlin, an organization with great structure. In Denver, they're

(25:42):
still trying to gather themselves the new coach and they've
given so much to to Sean Payton and they're trying
to rebuild and get young. I mean, like there was
there's a lot of moving parts there in Pittsburgh. You've
got the tradition, and I think the feeling that every
year we're going to be in contention. Every year we're
going to be led by this this Hall Fame bound
coach in Mike Tomlin and I and I think that

(26:03):
you know, he's never had a losing season and so
he's he's he's been able to somehow every year get
the team in a competitive mode in December. And I
think that Russell Wilson, quite frankly, will be at the
forefront of that. I think I think he will throw
it eventually. It may not be easy in the beginning,
it may not be comfortable, but I do like what

(26:23):
he could present if he is if he and Tomlin
are on the same page, and they seem to be
that way right now.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
Yeah, how about Dak? How about Dak and your buddy
Jerry and Dallas got a fifty five million dollar cap
pick Kevin and he's a free agent when the year's over.
A lot of folks thought maybe he get a new
deal done by the offseason, and he's going to go
into this year without a contract for next year. How
surprised are you by that?

Speaker 4 (26:48):
I just I just don't know how with all these
quarterbacks getting this kind of money, even somewhat unproven, as
Jordan Love was to become the highest paid quarterback time
with Trevor Lawrence down and down in Jacksonville and dak
Is saying my numbers were better. Look at my record,
and and and and I'm sure and Lamb got his.

(27:10):
And they've got Micah Parsons, by the way, too, sitting
in the in the in the wings waiting for his
big payday. And he is a generational talent at his
position defensively, I mean there's a lot going on in Dallas.
The head coach is Elame Duck and Mike McCarthy and
and the quarterback is I guess in a way, although
they can franchise the next year, but but he I

(27:32):
don't know how you could just just human nature wouldn't say,
you know, why am I not getting mine? Like has
it really have I been the problem? Or has it
been around me that's been the problem. And I think
there's probably blame to go both ways. But I don't
think his performance is anything less than what we've seen
with any of these other quarterbacks that have gotten the

(27:52):
big payday. The problem is is that is that you've
got a lot of people, a lot of cooks in
that kitchen, a lot of them, and and uh, and
to figure out what direction to go sometimes gets a
little clouded. I don't know that. I don't know that
that I think I think the Commanders could be better
than Dallas this year. I mean, it's kind of a
weird thing to say, but I really think they've got

(28:13):
a pretty good roster. I think Seattle's got a good roster.
There's some other teams in the NFC that are kind
of come in there and they're gonna surprise the Cowboys
in terms of trying to get seven teams in the playoffs.
You know, where are they going to fit. I don't
know that they can win their own division. Philadelphia has
got to be better. I just I just think Philadelphia
is going to be a better team this year. I
think they learned so much about how they ended so

(28:34):
poorly last year that they come in with great resolve
this year. And I think the Eagles will be everything
we thought they were in getting back to their super
Bowl form they were two years ago.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Well, I gotta be honest with you, man, I'm feeling
all kinds of something here in your voice again. It's
just really getting me going. I mean, it could be
the chili I had for lunch, but I think it's
your voice.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
It always is the chili with you. You put too
many beams in there. I've told you this before, and
that messes up your digestive system. And it's not good
for anybody. It's not good for your wife, it's not
good for your dog, it's not good for your co workers.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
It's all over.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
It's a problem in all quadrants.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
So good to have you back on the air. Before
you go and go, call this bad boy you mentioned
real quick. What's happening up here in Seattle? Obviously? Gino
Smith is back again as a starter. Mike McDonald, you know,
new regime, new era. Have you heard anything about Mike
McDonald from your people around the NFL? What do you
make of the new charage of the Seahawks.

Speaker 4 (29:27):
Everybody loves this guy. Baltimore hated to see him go,
and then they lost Anthony Weaver who went down to
Miami to become their defensive coordinator. So now Baltimore has
got a thirty two year old former player in Zach Gore, who,
by the way, might be one of the most applauded
and liked well liked coaches ever to step foot on

(29:50):
the practice field for the Ravens. They love him. He's
been a great butt. He's filling big, big shoes right
because McDonald was so incredibly successful. The players loved him.
I love what the Seahawks have done, and and I
and I think their roster is better than a lot
of people think. Right now, no one's talking about him. Yeah,

(30:13):
is Gino healthy? I know you can't know. Okay, right, good? Good,
So he's healthy. We're gonna be up there, I think
doing a game in two weeks. We got Miami aunt Seattle.
And that means only one thing you're buying is always
the case, and and we we will get together. I
want you in the booth for that game. Can you?
Can you sit in our booth for that game? What

(30:33):
are you in the booth for?

Speaker 2 (30:34):
A call?

Speaker 5 (30:36):
Up?

Speaker 2 (30:36):
Plays for you? Give you a chance to maybe hit
the restroom or get a snack or something.

Speaker 4 (30:40):
No, no, no, no, no, I didn't. I got to
keep my job, dude, Okay, I need this job. I've
got grandkids now to clothe and feed and everything else. Yeah,
but but but but we will see each other we.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
Will see each other. You can't wait for that. We'll
look up next week in our normal Wednesday spot. Have
I look forward to that?

Speaker 3 (31:00):
Yep?

Speaker 2 (31:01):
Love that you're doing this again. The official NFL kickoff
is not official until you're on the mic for Westwood One.
Go get him tonight. We're talking a week man, right.

Speaker 4 (31:10):
Always appreciate Dave. Take care. We'll talk to you next Wednesday.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
All right, Bud Kevin Harlan with us on the air.
He'll join us every Wednesday moving forward, courtesy of the
Emeral Queen Casino and letting look can out of the

CBS in a few weeks. I love it. We're gonna break.
We got kickoff Ravens, Kansas City. We're getting close. Can

Speaker 2 (31:47):
All right back here at the Aero Quei Cassina, We're
getting closer, getting closer to kickoff Baltimore, Kansas City from
Arrowhead Stadiumhere it's dumping rain and bolts of lightning are
coming out of the sky at Arrowhead Stadium, getting ready
Eaves defend their championship, wicking for a three peat, never
been done in the history of the NFL and the
Super Bowl era. By the way, our friends at San
Juan Seltzer giving away a trip to see udeb Oregon

(32:10):
in November. We'll get you down there. We'll take care
of the hotel, game tickets, your party with the San
Juan Seltzer founders. Let me tell you something, man, if
you end up picking up with Katie and Kyle and Ronnie,
they like the potty big time. They are party animals. Man,
they will meet you in the parking lot and you
will not want to leave. You may just stay out there, Jackson,
skip the game. To be honest with you, party with

(32:30):
the San Juan Seltzer founders in the parking lot before
the game in Austin Stadium. We're in a trip to
see UDB take on the Ducks November thirtieth from San Juan.
Just get to the website. San Juan Seltzer dot com
and enter, and then every single week we'll announce a
qualifier on the We're gonna bring everybody down on the
celtree for a big old party in November and give
away the trip there. Nicole Martin is our weekly qualifier.

(32:52):
Nicole Martin has qualified for the trip to Eugene. If
that's a prize, if the Huskies weren't, it's a prize
courtesy of our friends at San wah on Seltzer. So
you're seeing lightning, you're seeing rain happening in Arrowhead Stadium.
This is why every stadium NFL Baseball should have a roof,
every single one. I get at Jackson, lambeau Field, Soldier

(33:14):
Field in Chicago, some of these places. Obviously the charm
is the weather. But if this game gets delayed, if
this game gets caught off because a lightning, are you
kidding me? After all the time we've waited for this,
Come on, man.

Speaker 5 (33:26):
I mean, like we already have a game tomorrow. You
can't just simply say unless you want to do a
double header, which would be really weird. But listen, the
situation right now that we're seeing is players are in
the locker room. We're still what supposed to be twenty
minutes before kickoff, so I'm not sure what the last
lightning strike was. This game still very much could kick

(33:47):
off at the normal time. Media members are apparently in
a tunnel, which is interesting. Wow, weird scenes out there
as of about ten minutes ago.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
Well, no doubt about it. And look, I mean the
Seahawks and the Broncos on Sunday. It was on with
the Shaki station Altitude Sports this morning with the RAJ
and those guys, and they're talking all kinds of smack. Obviously,
why they're talking smack, I've Nordy, but they are talking smacking.
I just think we're talking when you're dealing with a
rookie quarterback in Bonicks. If a rookie walks in here

(34:16):
and gets to win Sunday, he better be damn good,
or be there's something wrong with the stadium and there's
something wrong with this football team if BONNICKX ends up
getting to win on Sunday. And I like Bonix. I
like what he said after the Week six loss. I
like the fact that he's stuck around for the bowl
game against Liberty when it was kind of meaningless and
we're playing for a shot in the final four. But
I just the more and more I think about this
game Jackson started, the more disappointed I would be if

(34:37):
Denver walked out here with a win. Completely.

Speaker 5 (34:38):
I mean, this is a team that they've been broken
since the trade where they pretty much gave up the
draft capital. They gave up a whole bunch of things,
including financial stability, and sort of like any team that
was going to trade for Russell we knew was gonna happen,
They're crumbled for the next I don't know how many years,
including right now. I mean, Bonix isn't the.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
Answer, yes, no, noough, Well, I think he's the long term,
it's not the answer now.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
No.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
I like Bonecks. I think Bonex will do well in
the NFL, and I think the combination of him and
Sean Payton's gonna prove to be fruitful down the road.
But not on Sunday, right. I mean, the guy making
us first, Dude, we used to be a house to
horrors for veterans. And if the guy makes his first start,
little punk ass kid walks in here and gets his
very first win woman in his first game ever in
the NFL, uh, that doesn't do a lot for the

(35:23):
mistique allumitfield pal if he walks here and gets this
thing done on Sunday.

Speaker 5 (35:27):
Against what supposedly is the best defensive mind Donna and
Mike McConnell. Right, Mike, the world can't can't beat Bone
Knicks with a defense that Like, listen, we talked about
the linebackers, you know, being a little bit thin, you know,
the defensive line will see if Nuos's available, is still
a darn good secondary. Like, but come on, come on now,
and like they're running back Javonte Williams. I mean, what

(35:50):
is he now? Thirty two years old? It feels like,
I know he's a lot younger, but still like they
don't have a lot of weapons on that team. They
don't have a great line. Like come on, if you
allow that offense to beat.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
You, Yeah, to be a bad start, very very bad start.
All right, we'll get a break. We're gonna come back
and get over to Arrowhead Stadium. Kevin Hart and Kurt
Warner have the call. We're gonna be here at the
Emeral Queen Casino Sports Book. And by the way, a
new thing we're doing this year. My buddy justin over
here hooked it up. We're doing live streaming on all
the social media channels for the Emeral Queen. So if

(36:20):
we go off the air at five o'clock on a
Thursday night and you get in your car and you
feel like, God, you know what I want a little
more softy, just jump on the Emeral Queen Casino ig page,
Twitter page, whatever, and we'll be there just having some
fun from the sports book. So check us out. All right,
We're gonna break football Ravens Kansas City next on ninety
three to three kJ arfm
