Welcome to the NFL Draft. Nowback to Sucky and on your home for
the twenty twenty four NFL Draft atSeattle's Best NFL Draft cover the Seattle Seahawks,
THEPT Show, the Sports Radio ninetythree point three k j R FL.
Here he is the head coach ofyour Sounders, FC Brian Schmetzer.
How are you, pal, I'mgood. I missed you on Tuesday,

(00:22):
but I guess Friday night lights.I mean, I'm in the big time
now, absolutely, Man, thisis the big boys seat. Now we'll
see if you can handle the pressurehere. Okay, So a nil nil
draw versus Dallas over the weekend, just one week after the offense went nuts
and put up five goals a weekbefore what happened, Well, I wish

(00:43):
I knew. I mean, Igot a theory, because you know,
we trotted out the same lineup, the same guys were on the field.
Seemed like softy. The good movementwithout the ball, the movement ahead of
the ball just wasn't there. Andand you know, look, okay,

(01:04):
Dallas is an okay team, andaway wins away from home and MLS are
hard. But man, I thoughtI thought we could have scored at least
one. You know, Christian hada really good chance, Jordan had a
good chance. A couple of goodchances. Actually, uh so, yeah,
disappointing. So matching up with Vancouver, are those the movement that you're
talking about? Does this look likea matchup where you can get some of

(01:26):
that against the Caps? Well,I challenged them, Dick, I mean
I challenged them to be more consistent. Uh. Obviously that message didn't work
one hundred percent in Dallas, butI did the same thing, and we're
gonna We're gonna challenge them to I'vegiven Albert Rusnak more freedom. You can
go from left pocket to right packetpocket. I'm gonna give the young kids

(01:49):
freedom to get up and down thefield. I want Jordan and Christian and
raoul A running behind the back lineto create problems for their defense. So
let's see if we can execute.Well, yeah, no question. And
you know, I just wonder aboutthe rivalry with these guys there. Obviously
is a nasty one with Portland.Does it extend to your neighbors up north?

(02:10):
Yeah, Look, we had wehad some pretty intense games last week.
I got to get Vanny Startini somecredit. The coach up in Vancouver.
I mean, he's not a shameto say he's a socialist. He
likes to come out and you know, be a little controversial. He started
the year with a six game banbecause he didn't like some of the stuff
that happened to his team last yearin the playoffs. So he's got him

(02:36):
kind of a you know, chipoff the old block, I would say.
I mean, he's got them believingthey can win and they're they're gonna
come after us. Well, andthey've had a really good season thus far
with kind of the same roster. Why have they taken specifically such a step
in the right direction. I thinkthe teams were the cyclical deck. Again,
there's you know, there's momentum, ebbs and flows. Look, the
last game was a one to nothingor a three to three to one loss

(03:00):
home to La Galaxy, so youknow they lost at home. You know,
are they going to come down here? Wanted to take a little revenge
he beat them up there last year. I just think they started the season
and you know, better form thanus. Brian Smatch was with us,
and two players for them that wewant to kind of keep an eye on.
Ask you about minfielder, Ryan goldenFord, Brian White. Why are

(03:23):
these guys such a problem? Well? Gold is quality, He's got a
tremendous left foot. He a littleguy, little Scottish guy, but a
lot of quality, good set pieceservice, smart, he's a smart player.
Brian White is a guy who youreminds me a little bit of Zach
Scott, a guy we had afew years back. You know, he's

(03:45):
five foot ten, that's what itsays on the on the sheet, but
he jumps like he's six foot four. He's really good in the air,
he's tenacious, he's you know,he's a battler, so you know he's
a full as your update, JPand Leo Chu are they both ready to
start? JP is ready to start. Chew is going to be on the

(04:11):
roster, but you know he's notgoing to start, but they're both one
hundred percent ready to go. Yeah. How about Pedro de la Vega?
What's the kind of prognosis with him? You think? And I knew you
were going to ask hat Softie andit was such a bummer. The kid
was making real good progress and youknow he re injured his hamstring, but
in a different location spot like fivecentimeters down. Uh, it's not as

(04:36):
significant as the one he had previously, right, but it's still a stepback.
And you know, he was soclose to getting back out on the
field, so he's he's taken itkind of hard to kids a little bit
down. So, yeah, youknow that's a tough one. Well,
I know that you and Dick talkedlast week about the run of hamstring injuries

(04:56):
that you guys have had. Ithink Dick even joked about calling him Hammy
FC. I guess over there, that's not what I call him. That's
what people quote unquote Dick would neversay that. Brian only unnamed anonymous people
on the internet in front of me, And you're right, never, never,
never in front of you. Buthave you thought it all a bit
more since that show last week aboutwhy you guys are facing so many hamstring

(05:17):
challenges all of a sudden, Well, we thought we had come out on
the other side of it. Imean, you know, the guys who
were injured were coming back, andyou know, it's it's really rare for
this many and you know, thetype is kind of each one guy was
a little bit different. But youknow, it certainly is disturbing and you

(05:38):
know, we need a deep divewith the physios, the medical staff and
everything, and we can't quite putour finger on it. But look,
they're working overtime to get the kidback because he's such an important part of
the team. One more injury questionread Baker Whiting close, really close.
Okay, Dick, good question, because this has kind of been one of

(05:59):
the story story of our season.I mean, the kid comes down with
pneumonia and that sets him back fora week. So that's the dumb luck
we're having. Well before you goseven o'clock pre game tomorrow seven thirty,
kickoff right here on ninety three tothree kJ R FM. And I don't
care how many games you win athome or how many you went on the
road, as long as you win. But do you feel and this is

(06:23):
going to sound like a weird wordto use, but is there almost an
obligation that you feel to win gamesat home because of the crowd support that
you guys get here? Allumin forsure. I don't think obligation pressure.
You just want to win at homebecause your fans are so great. Yeah,

(06:44):
there's a there's a there's a lotof things that you could say about
how players feel, about how coachesfeel, how everybody in our organization feels.
I mean, yeah, you gotto win your You got to win
your home games in m a lovethat gives you a good If you win
most of your home games and youget some draws or are a few wins
on the road, that'll put youin a good spot for the playoffs.

(07:06):
But that's mathematics. The emotion sideof it, yeah, it's there no
doubt. We'll go get win numbertwo at home tomorrow at seven thirty against
Vancouver, and we're talking a week. I appreciate this man. All right,
take care, guys. You betBryan Schmitzer with us on the radio
show. We're going to break
