(00:00):
All right, joining us right nowon the radio show our residents NFL Expert,

(00:03):
because let's face it, nobody elsecan handle that kind of title.
Our friend Huey Millan, what's goingon, buddy? How were you good?
So we got done with our bracketcontest or bracket segment at four o'clock,
deciding the greatest single position group inSeattle sports history, and it came
down to the Seahawks five offensive lineagainst the Seahawks twenty thirteen. Secondary.

(00:26):
First of all, let me askyou a question. For all the grief
that you gave us for the Oregonbracket that we did here on the air,
the Husky play from twenty twenty three, we picked the game winning or
the game losing for Oregon field goalthat the guy missed. Did we get
this right with our final two?In your opinion? Yeah, we'll let
you back in the play in thein the playground in the Sandhawks. Yeah,

(00:46):
you guys can play again. Yeah. Yeah. I think it's an
interesting debate. For me. Theway I would analyze it is to say,
Okay, it's kind of hard.LB is considered four guys, even
though I get it, there's Nickel, but an you can paired to get
into five man offensive line. Iwould just say at the top, you'd
say Richard Sherman against Walter Jones.I kind of call that a draw,

(01:10):
although I think that numbers could supporta Richard Sherman, you know, at
the time, while we think ofWalter Jones as the best and he was
making a lot of all pros. But you know, Jonathan Ogden and Orlando
Pace. But but I'll just stickwith those guys as a draw. Then
the next best guy, you'd say, Hutch against Earl Thomas. Hutches in

(01:30):
the Hall of Fame. Earl Thomasprobably won't be. Earl Thomas was considered
the best free safety of his era, as was Hutch. You could call
that a draw. Then you goto the next cam Chanceller went to four
Pro Bowls. The remainder of theoffensive line for the Sea Arx, the
remaining three guys. Yeah, ChrisGray went to one. Eccually me Tobek

(01:53):
went to one. Chris k Graywent to zero. And I don't think
Locker. I got to look atLockleyer, so I think I think three
fifths of that offensive line were youknow, you know, somewhat questionable,
whereas whereas again I think Chancellor wasuh whoever you say is the third best
on that offensive line. Chancellor,in my opinion, is a way better

(02:13):
safety. I thought he should havebeen the MVP of the Super Bowl.
And then and then lastly, yeah, okay, Brandon Browner and Byron Maxwell
bolts started at right corner. Youknow you have a drop off there.
But remember Maxwell made a lot ofmoney in free agency. Brandon Browner,
I think was pretty dominant for awhile before he got hurt. So I
think that the the the link, the weak link of the l B.

(02:34):
I think we're probably better than theweak link of the offensive line, So
I would I would give the nodto the lob if and and one further
point, I mean LB was justacross culturally, you know, the culture
of football. Put it that way. I'm not saying it transit sends football,
but the culture of football. Everybodyjust knew a high school kid,
a college kid, everybody in theNFL like that is the premiere secondary in

(02:59):
the NFL. They were much discussed. I don't know that the offensive line
for the Seahawks ever had that typeof impact or were thought of that way.
Well, that's a great way toput it the impact. But actually
we had the most difficulty in thefirst round decision between Fred Brown, Dennis
Johnson and Gus Williams versus Jalen Polk, Jalen McMillan and Roma Doonsea. How

(03:22):
would you vote on that one?Yeah, well, I'm very partial to
that. That backcourt, I mean, that was right in my wheelhouse,
and I would go with the sonicbackcourt. I would. I think,
you know, you know, winninga title means something, and those guys,
now, none of them were thegreat thing about that. I can
remember being at Roosevelt High School andyou know, you know, playing pick

(03:42):
up whop before, during and afterschool and everything. I mean, we
would always like Gus, you know, oh, dj oh, Fred,
you know, everybody's everybody wants andyou couldn't decide who was the best of
them, which I think was acredit because they won the NBA title.
If they were just an average team, we'd say, well, you can't
decide they all suck. No,these guys were great players and you couldn't
really say one was better than theother. They brought different things. But

(04:06):
but I would have loved to seeFreddie Brown play in the three point line.
Man. I mean that guy,he would come in the game and
they would run a play. Uh, Dick, you would have loved.
I mean they would they would runa play, you know, three screens
and get him in the corner,a baseline moonshot that he would fire right
off the bench and uh and andand that was worth only two points at

(04:29):
the time. I mean his valuewould have been. Yeah, he was
something. That dude had the sweeteststroke. My god, YouTube that guy's
stroke. Holy. I mean thatwas like you just put it on a
screen saver. You could just watchit all day. Yeah. You just
see him cocking that thing with thatright hand, using the left hand as
a frame there. Man, hewas the square up. Sorry to interrupt
the Dave. He you know,he technically his right shoulder, he was

(04:53):
like less purpose. His chest wasless perpendicular to his shooting line than any
great shooter. I've he kind ofshot to the side more so. I
don't know that he hit, butit was just so buttery. It was
like it would be like talking aboutFred Couples versus Ernie Els. Ernie Els
is this beautiful swing and it's technicallyin all the right places. Fred couples

(05:15):
have this beautiful, surpy swing, but it's not technically in the right places.
It's just the temple so gorgeous.I think Fred Brown had this silky
temple like couples, even though ifyou go frame by frame there's a point,
a couple of points. He'd say, Well, I'd like to see
him a little more square. Idon't know. I thought that I love
that back court, their parcel. To the day I die, They'll always
have a warm spot in my heartbecause they just write through some important years

(05:38):
for me as a sports fan.Yeah. Yeah, younger sports fans,
acquaint yourself with that backcourt. Theywere just they were just beautiful. Okay,
the seventy nine Sonic backcourt or HarrisonBucker. You got to pick pickw
So, and I want to askyou about the Harrison Bucker thing. I
mean, if you want to commenton what he said and what it means

(05:59):
to you whatever, I guess I'mjust more kind of curious about how you
think that will play in an NFLlocker room. How does that play in
the Kansas City Chiefs locker room?Moving forward? You think, well,
first of all, I got tojust come clean. We had talked earlier,
and I knew that I was gonnabe calming on this. I think

(06:20):
it's an important topic and I didn'tstudy the way I should have. So
you and I, Dave, aregoing to be on Monday. I'm going
to have a more thoughtful response.Okay, So this is just shooting from
the cup. I do think itis material that that was at a private
Catholic university. And again I'll reservethe right to change my opinion. I

(06:45):
clearly he missed like like he missedthe mark, like that was to bring
in a little pun involved in politicals. He was wide right. But I
do think that that, you know, perhaps like I got to study it
more, but I think that hismessage may have been and hey, don't
feel like there's pressure. There's alsohonor in in and being the matriarch of
a family, you know. Andso I think it came off wrong.

(07:09):
I don't I don't know that hisheart was wrong. Now I'm gonna study
it and Monday, this is mypledge to you, Dave. Monday,
I will have a more thoughtful answer. But but you know, I I
I think, uh, just basedon how it was respecting, he's got
to communicate better, even if hisif he was well intentions, he got
to find a better way to message. Well, I'm looking forward to Monday

(07:29):
because we've all been waiting for athoughtful response out of you, and thank
god Monday we'll have one on yournext question. Uh yeah, so go
ahead, Well I can ask youthat next question if you want. Now,
Yeah, this is let's just hitit. I'm trying to transition out
of of of a of a topicthat I uh that it slipped my mind
to prepare for. So but I'llmake amends on Monday. Dick told me

(07:51):
this I was gone, and youtold me, Dick on the air that
when I was gone, Hugh saidthat Mike McDonald is the best defensive mind
on the planet right now, correctus? Why do you feel that way?
Expand on that? Okay, Solet's I'll make a numbers based argument
and then I'll make more of aqualitative argument. Okay, because just so
you know, I don't just shootfrom the hip. I don't roll like

(08:13):
that, like I just think ofa forty nine er fan or something up
on business, he rents a car. Hey, I love sports radio,
which do we listen to? Naturally? They guy at the sport at the
car and us well, of coursekg R ninety three point three, he
says, got it. He's drivingaround. He hears me say something like
that. He's like, who's thislocal clown? I like, I don't.
I want to prevent that scenario. So I want to be you know,

(08:33):
I want to be able to supportan argument like that. If you
go back to the Ravens this yearthey had the triple crown, number one
fewest end points, number one inturn turnovers, and number one sacks.
When he got he's been there twoyears when he got there, wink Martindale.
They so he's gone from fourteen pointsallowed fourteenth to third to first.

(08:56):
And and if you if you addup the points of those the rankings.
Okay, follow me on this.So they're first in points, they're sixteen
yards their first and turnovers and theirfirst and sacks. That tallies nine.
Agreed, right, And you'd wantto have the if you were first in
all categories, that would equal four. Four would be the best you could

(09:18):
do. They TALLI nine. Thatis not only is that the best,
then they are double the next closest. They got nine points. The next
closest is twenty I thinkot the fortynine Ers had a good defense. They
have twenty three. I thought theBrowns had a good defense. They have
twenty four. And you say, well, wait a minute, you're slipping
in sacks. Isn't points, yardsand turnovers on just to thing? Yeah,

(09:41):
if you want to go that wayand eliminate sacks. Where the Ravens
were number one, they're still numberone with eight points, which is more
than half excuse, excuse me,less than half of the next point.
So the point is they're lapping everybodyin the NFL. What did they do?
They let the league in sacks JadevionClowney like the forty nine ers,

(10:03):
They got Bosa and they got allthese cats. They led the league in
sacks with Jadavion Clowney thirty years old. Baltimore was his fifth team. He
had two sacks of the year beforeat Cleveland opposite Miles Garrett. They did
it with Kyle Vanoy at the otherend, thirty two years old. Baltimore
was his sixth team, and hehad five sacks the year before, and
these guys are getting ten sacks, and you know, and then let's not

(10:26):
forget what he did at Michigan. He was the Michigan defensive coordinator in twenty
twenty one. For one year. They went The year before, Michigan's defense
was ninety third in the country outof one hundred twentys. They gave up
thirty four and a half points. This guy comes to ann Arbor and in
one season they go from thirty fourand a half to seventeen point three.

(10:48):
They're ranking. They go from ninetythird to seventh in one season in college
football. And then he goes backto the Ravens. So I think the
numbers support this all day long. And then I'll say this the style of
play. I've watched a ton ofRaven tape. They when when you think
of the Seahawks in the Lob day, they just line up and you play

(11:09):
cover three. You know, theywere just better than you, and they
just they played it really well. But this Raven defense, they are so
complicated in terms of how they disguisetheir blitzes, how they disguise their coverage.
They got guys that are lining upat one hook zone diagonal to the
other hook zone. They got defensivetackles dropping out. They got safeties that

(11:31):
start too high then they come down. They I mean they are. The
complication level is ten times what thelob was. They are really putting a
grind on quarterbacks and and you justand yet they're doing it. As I
said, leading the league in sexwith Clowney and van neis so. So

(11:52):
I think just watching the tape, watching the results, watching how stymied opponent
offenses are the style. I lovethat with this heavy disguise, they are
disguisers of the highest order, andthe communication that they have to play with
and the understanding of the concepts, particularly when they play zone and they have

(12:13):
to pass things off. They passoff everything beautifully and the numbers show it.
The numbers show it. So thatwould be my response to say,
he's the best in them playing. You said college football, Kirby Smart,
you know, give a nod tohim. Nick Saban, give a nod
to him. He's not coaching anymore, but Kirby Smart, he's incredible as

(12:33):
a defensive mind. But he's gotyou know, the nature of college football,
you just get way better players. So I think you just eliminate from
the college Not that I don't haveincredible respect for all the good defensive coordinators
in college football. I just thinkwhen you're at a place like Georgia,
you can run just about anything. But Kirby Smart is brilliant. But if
I just said, okay, whohas a more impressive resume pistol to my

(12:56):
temple? Mike McDonald or Kirby Smartor anybody else, anybody else in the
NFL. If if Mike McDonald isnot the premier defensive mine in the NFL,
if I haven't convinced to you, then you tell me who is who's
ahead of Mike McDonald right now?Yeah? Who's the Chiefs DC? What's

(13:16):
this Spagnola? He's that's a goodresponse. And he's a big he's a
big game coach. Oh, bythe way, for another Mike McDonald in
the AFC Championship game that the Chiefswon seventeen to ten, no points in
the second half for Mahomes, hewas four point eight yards per attempt in
the second half. They got shutout in the second half of the AFC

(13:39):
Championship game. But but Spagnola isfantastic, and you know he's got Chris
Jones and he's got no he's gota great offense behind him. Right,
So did any rate Hugh. Let'stry to filter out the hype the national
hype surrounding schedule release week, andlet's just get to the substance. Is
there anything of substance that you sawin the in the Seahawks schedule and furthermore,

(14:03):
the whole Netflix on Christmas thing. Are you a proponent of streaming games
on Christmas? Or is it?I mean, are we've we gotten to
the point of is nothing sacred anymore? I just think there's there's some things
that I've realized in life with nI L and transfer portal and and and

(14:24):
got all the things that portal, all the things that have happened. I
just I you know, I'm I'mlonger in the tooth than probably most that
are listening at age sixty, andI just have come to realize the one
thing that's constant is there's always change, and you know, and and to
sit there and get bristle about change. Uh, yeah, there's some change

(14:48):
that still bothers me. Are youtalking about you kind of intertwined two different
aspects and Christmas? Are you talkingmore about NETFL Christmas? Because those are
two different discussions. Okay, that'sa that's a good point. Let's let's
you talked about the Christmas A littlebit. How about how about the Netflix?

(15:09):
I mean is this There's gonna bea lot of people that that are
going to be able to watch it. There's gonna be a lot of people
that won't be able to watch iton Christmas Day. I mean we are
going to an era now where Ithink what Florio treat out, You need
like twelve different things to be ableto watch every game, which nobody does.
Which nobody does. But it's justit's spreading out how you watch the

(15:31):
NFL. It's not nearly as homogeneousas it once was. Well, I'm
concerned. You know, in businessschool they talk about the tragedy of the
commons and and you know, yougot this this common area to graize your
cows, and and and you say, what, okay, the land can
only handle h if each person doesthree three cows or less. And everybody
says okay, great, and theneverything and then but each each individual says,

(15:54):
okay, well I'm gonna just slipin. I'm gonna have eight cows,
you know, brand them, andI'll put eight cows. Well,
everybody does that. Now everybody's eatingthe grass and and does now all of
a sudden drives up for everybody.I think that, you know, just
a talk a point about greed, and you just wonder, is there a

(16:14):
point where you you oversaturate and youstart, you know, and you give
people too much? You know, there's a scarcy d to football that that
that we knew was okay, Mondaynight football, that was that was a
real event. But she had Sundayand then you had Monday night football and
you say, wow, that's cool. Let's let's expand a Thursday. Okay,
well, now let's expand to Friday. Well why not Wednesday? You

(16:37):
know. And so if you keepsaturating, is there a point where it
kind of just gets choked off?Is there a tragedy in the commons in
the future. I don't know.I think the NFL is gonna keep trying
to stretch it until they find out. So I don't know if the if
the NBA was on on, youknow, in the NFL wants to say,
hey, uh, there's a marketthere in which they did last year

(17:00):
and they ten next the NBA inyear one, ten next to them,
like whatever the numbers were for theNBA, it was ten literally ten times
more for the NFL. So sothey're just the big old Godzilla with the
big heavy tail. They swing itwherever they want, and they're swinging it
on Christmas. All right, man, you're the best. You're talking Monday
A right, pal? Yes,rock and roll. Hey, the Chiefs,

(17:21):
by the way, And that wasthat probably would have been my submission
to where I said, there's ninepoints and fewist's best for the Ravens.
The Chiefs have thirty three, whichis sixth in the league. Gotcha?
Sorry, all right, what's MondayA right? All right, you're milling
with us. We're gonna break ScottieScheffler all over the news today. We
haven't heard his voice yet. Let'sdo that next on ninety three three kJ RFM
