Speaker 3 (00:43):
All right, we are back on a busy Friday right
here on ninety three to three KJRFF.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
Listen to you often because you're not interesting.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
A guy who's very interesting, despite what he says about
us and me behind our back, our friend. I find
him very interesting, very intriguing, small art, good looking, all
that stuff. I'll say that today off the air, I'm
talking about you. I'm talking to him. You're an ugly
bastard with a bunch of gray hair. You stay that
(01:12):
tall the boys? Yeah, keep it between us. Hum millins
with us. What's up doing to happen?
Speaker 5 (01:17):
Man?
Speaker 4 (01:17):
I'm doing great. Eager, Eager is how I'm doing.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Yeah, Wenesday, Well, I was gonna say, you done Purdue tomorrow.
That's a classic, man. These two teams get together, toss
out the record.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
Book, that's off to the twenty team. Good on. You
enjoy the recognition, and so so Washington. Purdue has a
you know that has a ring to many of us
Husky fans for that reason. That's right, That's right. I
think most mine are squarely focused on Sunday. Right. Well,
it's interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Somebody actually asked me the your day, why are they
bringing the rose ball team back for this game? Well,
because they played Purdue and the Rose Bowl and they
beat him twenty five.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Years ago, not forty. You probably don't remember.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
I had no idea, right all right, Well, Humillin's with us.
Let's go to Sunday, dude. All right, so this matchup,
to me has classic written all over it. I'm intrigued
as hell by the coaching matchup. I said it to
Dick earlier. I'll say it to you and get just
your reaction. This is why you hired Mike McDonald right
for games like this to figure out Sean McVay.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
And really, when you go back to firing Pete Carroll
and what Seattle had, you know, I think Snyder they
took a long look at Ben Johnson. I'm not even
sure Mike McDonald was the number one guy I thought.
I think maybe at the onset of the process maybe
McDonald was number two. But I think that after they
had a discussion with Mike McDonald, that's like, Okay, this
(02:39):
is the guy, and the thought, Okay, philosophically, if we're
facing this brilliance with Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay, you
got a match brilliance with brilliance. Certainly, I think Mike
McDonald qualifies in that regard. I think everything that we've
seen points to a very successful ideology and philosophy on
(03:01):
Schnyder's part in that regard, We're going to see on Sunday.
So yeah, and I think even let's need the GM
for the rams versus Snyder on some of the things like,
for example, Byron Murphy was selected a couple of picks
ahead of Jared Vers. You know, just little things like that,
you know, the wide receiver. He hear the Rams say,
hey we want DeVante Adams, We'll part with Cooper cup
(03:23):
all the personnel moves. There's a time Stafford was thought
to be a Vegas Raider, but they made the decisions
to pull to lure Stafford back. The decisions the Seattle's
made a quarterback. So I think it's the coaching, it's
the GMS, it's the quarterbacks. It's just a real clash
of the principles involved with each franchise.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
In the last three games for Matthew Stafford have been
unbelievable thirteen touchdowns, no interceptions, and eight of those touchdowns
Hugh coming from this three tight end set. Talk about
just how massive a change this is, going from where
they ran one play of three tight ends the entire
first five games of the season to now running at
(04:05):
forty percent of the time over the last three games.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Well, I don't want to say it's a problem, but
it it's it's a it's a component you better look at.
And just to put that into context, the NFL average
for yards yielded per game out of thirteen personnel's twelve
yards got me twelve yards a game. Second highest in
the in that span is fifty yards. The Rams have
(04:31):
produced an average, not not total, averaged one hundred and
sixty yards per game, a little over one hundred and
sixteen decimal points per game out of thirteen personnel. So
it's something you know, and Seattle's only faced it twelve
times this year, and usually that's you know, short yard
is your goal line. So and they've they've either matched
(04:51):
it with nickel, and that's one because Seattle's number one
in the NFL and use of nickel at eighty six percent.
So they're going to keep even worry out there. If
they're gonna mix change it with personnel, they're gonna stay Nickel,
They're gonna pull another linebacker off, and they're gonna go
to five down with just one linebacker and still playing
in the quote unquote big nickel with three safeties if
(05:13):
you count em, and worry. But you know, I think
about this, it's a problem. I looked at at the
bulk of the plays out of thirteen personnel from the Rams,
and they get into you know, spread type pass concepts.
With three receivers, the only need one fast guy to
clear things out. And then they've got a guy short
(05:35):
and intermediate with a tight end personnel, so they can
get a lot of their schemes in thirteen personnel. They
created Geno's first year Seattle ran a lot of thirteen personnel.
And you remember all those bootlegs. You get into those
those tight three tight end formations. You fake the run
one way, and there's so many things you can draw
up on the board about which of the two or
(05:55):
the three tight ends are gonna be in the flat
or at an intermediate left off of the naked boot legs.
So that's a factor. And then as far as your
run fits, I mean, think of this. If you have
an open edge, uh, the C gap is outside the tackle. Well,
if you have a tight end, you have a D gap.
Well have another tight end. You got an E gap? Yeah,
well you know you got another tight end. You got
(06:16):
an F gap. You know that You're not used to
seeing that and it can be hard to deal with. Well,
I'm looking at some of the PFF grades. I know
it's not the end all be all, but what's our
standard line. It's kind of a guideline right, which is
typically a more right than wrong, good place to start.
But number one, number two offense in football, number one,
number two passing offense in football, number two, number six
(06:36):
defense in football two and number five run d which
I was surprised about. I was a little bit surprised
the PFF is us down on the Hawks tackling as
they are. I think I'm twenty fourth in the NFL
and tackling tenth against the rush, ninth in coverage.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
RAMS are fourth in coverage. But I guess my question
would be this. Dick just mentioned the three tight end
set right that they like to run on offense, which
could be an advantage for LA. Where's the clear advantage
if there is one, or the clearest advantage in this
game for the Hawks.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Well, I think that their ability to pressure the quarterback.
When you look at the Seattle they are number one
in hurries at over eighteen per game. RAMS are pretty good.
They're ninth at thirteen, but you know, that's a pretty
sizable gap. I think we're Seattle where they're looking at,
(07:28):
and they're similar on defense, and in fact, Dave, the
more I've looked at this, the more I think that
these teams really mirror each other. For example, offensively, you know,
the Rams are under center the most, the Seahawks are
under centered the second most. You know, they're both explosive.
I mean this, Sam Darnold is number one in the
(07:49):
NFL in terms of air yards per attempt. He's number
one in the NFL in percentage of the passes that
go for twenty yards or more. Well, uh uh, Matthew
Stafford is number two in each of those. But I
think that what Mike McDonald's gonna look at is getting
healthier on on on defense, because think about this, there's
(08:10):
four you had four injured starters, right, I mean, you
had you had job out, you You've had uh, Julian
Love out, you had Ernest Jones, your middle linebacker, Jaron Reid,
And they're still pointing up these ridiculous numbers. And so
I would say, you've you've got an advantage, or you
should have an advantage in terms of pressuring the quarterback.
(08:30):
And uh and and while Seattle and and l A,
again they mirror each other in the sense of, uh,
the percentage of times that they bring five or more,
they're both in the bottom five, right, But but they
they they create that havoc, and they do it by
bringing dbs dropping off defensive lines. Here's another here's another
(08:51):
one for you. I don't talk about spect teams a lot.
That's for Dick Baird, right, But in in e p A,
thank you well done so. But in EPA, the Seahawks
are number one in special teams EPA expected point average.
All right, and I've run the correlations. It's a new stat.
(09:12):
It correlates highly to winning the dead last team in
the NFL thirty two, the Rams. So somewhere somehow that
has got to surface over the course of sixty minutes
on Sunday. Interesting.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
Well, you mentioned that the stunts that the Seahawks like
to run. You have to limit some of those stunts
because you're facing a future Hall of Fame quarterback that
you might be able to trick a younger guy Jayden
Daniels type player on.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
No, I still think you want to make him think.
I still think a guy can make you know, even
if you make him hold the ball. You know. I
looked at the splits for Matthew Stafford, and of the
seven coverages that he's faced with five or more dropbacks,
six of those seven he has a one hundred passer
(10:02):
rating or above. But against what what's called cover four,
I'm gonna get a little bit exy andoe nerdy cover four.
He has a fifty nine passer rating, right like, So
so I said, well, I gotta I gotta watch the
tape of and what that is is four deep and
then you got three under zone. But the three hundred
zone guys have to play man principles within his own
(10:23):
because they have to match, because he can't just drop
to a spot. If you only have three hundred, the
holes will be huge. So so it's a little bit
of a hybrid. And then and then the safeties they're
reading the release of tight ends. There's a complication I
don't need to get into, but there's two safeties that
are sitting there on the inbreaking routes. And then then
(10:44):
you look at the splits of of what Stafford throws
to Pooka Nikua seventy nine times and DeVante Adams seventy eight.
Then you drop all the way down to the running
back Hyroen realms at twenty nine. All right, so let's
go back to the wide receivers and Tyler Higbee by
the ways at twenty eight. But going back, the both
receivers are seventy eight targets or more, both of them.
(11:04):
They have by far the most amount of yards on
inbreaking routes one hundred and sixty five for Nakua and
DeVante Adams one hundred and fifty three. He has sixty
seven yards on outbreaking routes. So Seattle's going to know
this that, hey, when they come at you, they're going
to condense their splits. The receivers, which means you're going
to be on the corners, are gonna be an outside leverage.
(11:25):
It's hard to be an outside leverage on an inbreaking route.
But if you play that cover foward and then you
sit there and you you you're running right into those safeties.
So if Mike McDonald wants to do that, I just
watched the tape. You know, Stafford holds the ball and
he's trying to get a big play, but because their
safety is there, they don't always allow that. So I
(11:45):
think even a veteran can hold the ball if you
can further make him hold the ball by by you know,
making them think just an extra second, that can disrupt timing.
And we saw Aaron Rodgers throw a ninety seven yard
pick sick to Leonard Williams in that Jet game a
year ago, all by scheming. It was a cover zero
with two defensive linemens pop and then drop into the
(12:08):
the shallow hook area, and Leonard Williams caught one and
housed it. So you can still fool an old guy.
They did on that occasion. I expect them to do
it at time or two on Sunday, hopefully it'll be
pivotal enough to can swing the game.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Is this the game where JSN gets shut down finally
and somebody else has to step up?
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Well, I think that that would have happened before.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
But so you're saying it's not gonna happen all year.
I mean, I just find it crazy. Like you were
talking to Mike yesterday, Holmgren and all of us remember
the job they did on Steve Smith in the Carolina game,
right like punching him right in the face, elbow, right
in his chest. I mean, I'm literally Hugh and Dick
waiting for a opposing defensive back to press Jackson Smith
and Jigba and rip his helmet off, Like how many?
(12:55):
How many personal fouls have we seen that were drawn
by jasn because somebody got way to physical.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Nobody's even bothered to do that. I watched the game.
How does this continue? Watch the game tape of the
Steelers defense against the Colts offense when when the Colts
lost their first game, that's exactly what they did. They
just played handsy grabby. They played cover two man to
safety and on either half the corners. When they didn't
(13:22):
play with the two safeties, they just squatted. They said,
I dare you to do a double move because we
got all these exotic blitzes and so yeah, I mean
you can roll on him, deny free access. I would
think that would be job one, you know at this juncture.
I mean you know, I at one time was saying,
hey we Jackson Smith and Jigba has proven that he's
an elite slot receiver. Does he have the long speed
(13:44):
to be a good outside receiver. Well, he's got three
hundred and eleven snaps as a wide receiver. He's got
seventy one snaps in the slot this year. So as
the now often that that's a little bit of a
it can be misleading because if they step the receivers
Jackson Smith often is frequently becomes what's called the new
(14:06):
number two. So he aligns out as the widest guy,
but he's only a yard outside the next guy. And
if they do a switch release, well, the stats that
I just describe, he he gets. He gets credit for
being an outside receiver, but he really becomes, in the
eyes of the defense, the slot receiver immediately right at
the onset of the snap. So so there's some there's
(14:26):
there's some vagaries to to these statistics in that regard,
but he's proven. Hey, uh, if you jam him, he
can get off the the press. I just don't think
somebody has to date just set a all hands on deck. Uh,
we got to stop eleven. Uh. Yet, so we'll see
if if Chris Sula the defensive coordinator right for you know,
(14:50):
and and yet it's Sula as in him yep, and
and uh you know, just in his second year. Hell
of a hell of a coach. I don't understand why
people aren't talking about him more or as a head coach,
because that the way that defense plays. Man, they got
it rolling. Well.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
They also have a senior defensive associate on their football team,
guys named Jimmy Lake, by the way, So we'll see,
we'll see what they get drawn up.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
On Sunday, Hugh Sophie was mentioning cups numbers in his
rankings which are down across the board other than yards
per catch, which are actually a career high. And PFF
has got Cooper Cup as the nineteenth highest graded wide
receiver when he's actually targeted. So has he played well
as those numbered would indicate? And if so, why haven't
(15:34):
they been able to get in the ball more?
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Well, there have been times where I thought that the
ball should have gone to him, for sure. There's also
been times where you know what they are, mirrored shake out.
You know, it's not uncommon for teams to say, all right,
let's run a mirrored route, even a mirrored concept. So
let's say we're going to run a corner and a
flat combination on both sides of the field, so you
(15:58):
have pick a side right and then work that side. Well,
when you see some of those mirror you know, I
got I'm evaluating JSN on the on one side and
Cooper Cup on the on the other side. And you know,
jas N's just he's just quicker and more elusive and
and and more explosive, and he just gets better separations.
So you know, you look and you say, well, I
(16:20):
had have thrown it to j s N too. Now,
there's other times in zone where where where they've squeezed Dick.
You know, you coach high school basketball, you know where
the shooter is, right, you know there's times where where
they've squeezed more to j SN and then you know
the ball should be going to ten cup. Right. But uh,
there's such a confidence that the way uh Darnold is
(16:42):
willing to just throw with anticipation, knife it into short
little windows and Injigua is just oblivious to defenders around him.
In that regard, he's like the best of Tyler Lockett
in his prime. Uh. And then just even you know,
I see you and then raise you. Let me even
show you to a greater degree an ability to finish
the play with defenders near and around me and draping,
(17:05):
yanking on me and stuff. And so so you know
that's that's part of the calculus for Darnold.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Yeah, hey, let's talk some dogs lots going on demand
the lost to Wisconsin Jedfish in the news comments Monday.
All right, we'll roll with that a little bit with
a humillin next on ninety three, to three KJRFM.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
This is Duke of Duke Seafood and this hour is
brought to you by Duke Seafood. Why don't you make
it at Duke's night tonight. Reserve your table today at
Dukeseafood dot com. Now back to Santi and Dick on
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.
Speaker 6 (17:38):
I think, unfortunately what happens is they just want to
tie coaches to lists, and then we have to sit
there and defend it rather than just be able to
just tell our fans, like our players are coaching staff, myself,
my family, we love coaching at the University of Washington.
And the ridiculousness of people that want to claim that
because my wife and daughters are living in Arizona, because
(18:00):
I have a sixteen year old who's been in five
different schools in the last eight years, to finish your
high school, has anything to do with my decision or
the ridiculousness of just putting my name on a list
just to do it. Only that does effect recruiting. It
affects our team, it affects our staff. And my hope
is that our players, our coaches, our families understand how
(18:20):
much we.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
Love it at Washington.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
All right, that's a voice of Jed Fish from Monday,
addressing more of the coaching rumors.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
Obviously still a topic.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
It'll be a topic until it's not right, until Jed's
back on the sideline next year in September. It'll be
a topic until it's not. But Hugh Millan rejoins us,
and you want to get just kind of your thoughts
on that. You know, Jed's future tied to a lot
of potential job openings, namely you Cla Obviously, eck I
called you the year day and asked if Jim Mora
(18:49):
would want to come back up here.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
If if Jed ends up taking off for the Bruins.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
But I don't know, man, what do you make of
just all the smoke that's hanging around?
Speaker 4 (18:59):
Yeah, in the news for sure. And I would just
say this, I'm gob smacked at how some people are
interpreting what he said. And I'll explain. He spoke for
a minute in forty two seconds to describe how he
feels about coaching Washington. He used the word excited three times,
(19:19):
enjoy once, love twice. He used the word committed zero
times or any synonym of committed. He used the phrase
staying at Washington or any similar phrase zero times. So
I love pizza. If you had to have me speak
(19:40):
for a minute forty two seconds, I could describe the
spice I like on the sagage, how thick I like
the Canadian bacon, how I like the cheese, et cetera,
et cetera. But you didn't ask me would I rather
have a meat Lover's or would I rather have a
Ribbi at the met or Gibson's in Chicago? Pork chop,
the pok chop I've ever had? So really what we
(20:04):
I would say?
Speaker 6 (20:05):
This?
Speaker 4 (20:06):
He spoke too truth. He said that everything that he
should say. He said that he is he loves coaching Washington,
but he said nothing about, well, what is the priority
if some other if Florida comes calling, if LSU comes calling,
(20:28):
if somebody takes the LSU job. Let's say Texas, Texas,
A and M. And then that that you see, like,
how many schools would he leave Washington for? He's not
going to be asked that question, nor should he answer it.
He did exactly what he should say. But what I'm
gobsmacked about is how I see headlines locally nationally saying
Jed Fish expresses his commitment to Washington. What where where
(20:52):
did he do that? Do we have to be flee
Bailey to be able to discern what a guy is
saying and what he's not saying. Let's go back to
how about this quote? We want to be here for
a very long time. We've got eighteen out of twenty
two returning starters next year, so I have no interest
(21:13):
in going anywhere. Regarding moving, I couldn't do that to
my wife. She's made twelve moves with me. Well, those
quotes are all from Jedfish at Arizona. So he got burned.
And you know what, his comments from this week were
quite a bit less than Dan Lanning, who I'm not
going to give you the dates, but you can look
it up. He says, if you're scared of your coach
is going to leave, then come play for us. I'm
(21:34):
not going anywhere. The grass is damn Green and Eugene,
and I'm not leaving. When asked, what's the chance you're leaving,
he says, yeah, it's zero. I'm not leaving Oregon. And
even that, which is substantially more than Jedfish said this week,
it's more than Jetfish said at Arizona. I still like,
if Dan Lanning wants to take the LSU job, what
(21:56):
are they gonna say? Well, you know, that's kind of
how I felt then, But you don't think change. So
so the idea that he expressed any commitment, you know,
I don't see it. I think he did exactly what
he should, but it still doesn't ask the answer. Ask
the question, answer the question. And oh and and a
further point. You know, look, I think he draws our
(22:18):
sympathy because we're all decent people and we understand, you
know that the family component and his daughter. But there's
also the issue that when when the wife is not there.
In most coaching situations, the wives are very active in
the recruiting. I mean, my kids had scholarship offers from
six different PAC twelve teams. I've been to dinner with
(22:41):
Mario Christball's wife. I've been at parties where Mario Christaball's
wife was there talking to my my wife, and you know,
like that's you know, Carol James was uh, Susan Neuheisel,
like that's a thing, having the wives involved. So so,
are you at a competitive disadvantage a little bit? Can
you overcome that's sure, but I think you know, rumors
(23:01):
gonna still hound him. When you have fourteen stops in
twenty five years, you know, greater than less than one
every two years, and your wife is living fifteen hundred
miles away. I'm sorry. The questions are going to come up.
That's part of that's part of the the part of
the entire package. When you're getting seven million dollars a year,
(23:24):
these questions are going to surface. And I think that
he while he answered what he the way he should,
we learned nothing. Totally agree.
Speaker 5 (23:32):
We learned nothing, and we don't learn nothing from most
of those coaches when they when they answer those those questions.
Speaker 4 (23:37):
A tough position to be in. Heugh, Let's let's talk
about number two.
Speaker 5 (23:40):
Because when the first time I saw Demon Williams, I
saw Kyler Murray. And with all the great things about
Kyler Murray, now I'm starting to see Demon Williams as
Kyler Murley and Murray and some of the things that
drive me nuts about Kyler Murray.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
So is that should I be worried about that?
Speaker 5 (23:56):
Or should I say, dude, Demon's still like what nineteen
eighteen right and so, and just like let him be
nineteen and eventually he'll break out, break out of some
of these bad Kyler Murray habits.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
Well, there's some Kyler Murray habits for sure, and I
think that there's been a slight disappointment this year in
how he's played. Now you say, I'll give you some examples.
He's got four games QBR. Let me talk about QBR.
That is not passer rating. QBR is a more advanced
statistic that includes all the quarterback running plays if you
do it in a clutch situation, third down. If you
(24:30):
need to know, google it. But QBR. He's got four
games over ninety, but he's got three games less than fifty.
That means seventy eight percent of his games are either
under fifty or over ninety. That percentage is number one
in all of power for he does not have a
(24:51):
single game in the seventy eighties or eighties, which would
be considered a good very good game. Ninety quarterbacks with
zero or seventy zero games in the seventies or eighties,
all of them have either zero or one game over ninety. Again,
he's got four, So there's six quarterbacks in all of
(25:12):
college football have four games of over ninety. They have
a combined twenty nine games over ninety. Those six quarterbacks,
they have a combined four games under fifty and Demond
has three of them. And my last born on that
eighty three quarterbacks have three plus games of less than
fifty QBR and nine of the eighty three have two
(25:36):
plus games over ninety. Demand is the only one that
has three or four. He has four. So all of
those numbers, you know what that says he is the
most volatile quarterback in college football. It's up or down,
and you say, wait a minute, didn't he and then
you know he's had four games over ninety against UC
Davis and Wazoo and Rutgers in Illinois Rutgers in defense
(26:01):
pass efficiency Wreckers is ranked one hundred and twenty eighth
out of one thirty six and Illinois is ranked ninety eight.
Remember now, Illinois was a ranked team because of their
offense and their quarterback. Right, Illinois pass the yards for
games is one hundred and twelve. So we part of
this is just like, Okay, he's like lights out against
(26:22):
teams and he keeps he is great at pouring it
on against bad teams. But you know, I think that
he's that's going to be the next state in this
nineteen year old's development is now we got to bring
it against higher quality opportents.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Yeah, Hey, how busy is your night tonight? By the way,

Speaker 4 (26:41):
As a Matterick, Yeah, we are going out meeting some friends.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
Okay, Okay, Well I was going to say, I have
you back, and there's there's more meat on that bone
to get through, but I may.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
Weekend Friday night, We're still good for sure. If you
want to close the loop on on.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
Well, I just feel like there's there's nothing that gets
fans and really us, let's be honest with you, more
emotional and more engaged than when it comes to talking
about Husky football, especially when there's a potential controversy on Mottlake, Right.
I mean, this is different than the NFL, This is
(27:16):
different than the NBA, the nhto the whole thing.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
So I think we got to.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
Come back and just talk about kind of where this
program is a little bit, where they're going, what the
off season is going to look like, what Jed's offseason,
their future all that. So if you can tell you
your smoking hot blonde wife over there by, by the way,
to just chill out for another ten minutes.
Speaker 4 (27:38):
I'd like to grab you all right, Okay, more with you.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
We'll move Fun with Audio to six o'clock guys, Okay,
coming up on ninety three to three KJRFM.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
This is Duke of Duke Seafood and this hour is
brought to you by Duke Seafood. Why don't you make
it at Duke's night tonight. Reserve your table today at
Dukeseafood dot com. Now back to Safti and Dick on
Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ RFN.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
All right, Hre Mellan rejoins us for one more segment,
a little Fun with Audio coming at six pm.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
What's that Dick on the radio show?
Speaker 3 (28:10):
Hume Millan again back with us, and here I want
to ask you about just the kind of intensity of
the fan base, the emotions, the interest level the next
three games. You know, Dick and I were just kind
of saying that, you know, how much you can really
prove against Purdue, probably nothing against Perdue. I don't know
what kind of crowd they'll have for the game tomorrow.
I hope it's a good one to honor that two
thousand rolls ball team. But you know, look, I think
a lot of people are just kind of wondering what
(28:31):
the future looks like for you, deb, you know, what
is Jed's future, What's the future of the roster? Like,
can you imagine, guys, if the twenty twelve Seahawk football
team was a college football team in twenty twenty five
after almost beating Atlanta, and then everybody can walk and
they can hit the portal, they can transfer all those
great players.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
Remember all the excitement heading into thirteen.
Speaker 5 (28:51):
It's probably the most excited I've ever been after a
playoff loss, unting one hundred percent.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
And we used to have that hue in college football
that hey, the sea and didn't and the way we
wanted it to. But man, look at this core right
hue of all these young guys coming back, and yeah,
we can't say that that all these guys are guaranteed
to be back, And I think it's hurting the enthusiasm
of the fan base.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
Yeah. Well, I think that we're almost like neophytes as
fans that we have to relearn how to fan because
we never had to face the specter of a coach
leaving and taking many of the principal players, right, And
if that were to happen, then you know, obviously the
team's gout it. So I think you're kind of, you know,
(29:37):
once bitten twice shy, right, And we don't know, you know,
just how substantial the rumors are the jed would want
to go if given a offer that I mean is
by us only six million, you know, after what January tenth?
You know, so if given a race anything over seven million,
(29:59):
you know, both the opportunity and the personal elements that
enter into the calculus for any coach. We don't know
if he's going to be the coach next year, and
then if he's not the coach, how many young players
is he gonna take? You know? One thing, if in
that scenario he would take as many as he could,
So I think, yeah, I think it's kind of like
(30:22):
just you just kind of put on the brakes in
terms of your enthusiasm. It's unfortunate, but it's the new
landscape here.
Speaker 5 (30:28):
I got one more question on that dreadful game at
Camp Randall on Saturday. I tweeted out at halftime only
half joking that if they just put their knee down
three times in punt every time, they'd win this game
ten to three. So in the second half. Was that
a play calling problem? Was it a demand problem that
they basically handed all the points that Wisconsin got by
(30:53):
mistakes by their offense instead of just being uber conservative
and punting the ball.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
Well, I think I think that the turnovers by them
on were brutal because you try and get a double
go uh take a shot play on first and ten
and the corner. I mean even even Jimmy Doherty dave
right uhh, he commented on that I had said on Monday,
the light could not have been redder right? Uh in
the dictionary? Did I use the correct grammar sideline talking
(31:20):
about yeah? Because the corner was just you know, he
was in a he was in a half turn, bailing
out of there, and and the quarterback just has to
see uh you know. And here he had Chris loss
And sitting right over nobody within eight yards of Chris
Lawson on first and ten. It would have been a
ten yard game had he just dumped it right over
the middle. So that was clear sign of predetermination. I
(31:41):
think Jimmy Doherty said, you know, a shot called, uh
is not necessarily a shot taken? Was the was the
the term he used, the uh the fumble dick look
they called why stick on the on the on the
left side, And what that is is is it a
tight end or the number re receiver just a five
yard out ROUNDE. And then the next guy in the
(32:03):
slot is also doing a five yard out round and
then the guy over by the side and running a
clear out. But then on the other side he had
a slant coming in. And if the mic, if the
middle linebacker pushes to that tight end, that that uh
opening on the slant from the backside is just wide open.
And so when I said to you on Monday that
if you and I stressed this, I still got burned
(32:25):
on on a on a fan thread. I try to
stress it. If you evaluate the game only Wisconsin, you
would you would evaluate Demon as an undrafted free agent.
And it's because there was multiple We don't have enough
time in this segment. I'm looking at my notes if
if you wanted to have me go into double digit
(32:47):
certainly half a dozen clear like whoa, where are your
eyes going? What are you doing? How are you not
recognizing that the role of the coverage, and like he
looked like a guy that really had not played any football.
Now he's young, he's nineteen. I actually expect him to
be a hell of a quarterback for Washington if he's
(33:08):
still the Washington quarterback. But let's say it what it is.
It's we did not see the bump that we had
hoped for, certainly Jedfish if he had had a crystal ball.
What is said? I kind of expected a little more.
And in that game to call why Stick, a basic
(33:30):
concept with the slant, with all throws within six yards
of the line of scrimmage, and for that to turn
into a scramble and a punch out on the ball
and a fumble, and then, you know, then you are
literally dick saying, well, if we can't call why Stick,
we can't cover it, we can't call any you might
as well just you know, call you know, a plunge
(33:51):
into the middle of the line for the next thirty minutes.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
I do think, I do think that part of our
disappointment in Demon Williams is fueled by the what's the
word I'm looking for anticipation for Demon Williams that was
created by his head coach.
Speaker 4 (34:09):
His head coach heard a husky coach laud an unproven
quarterback like him.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
His head coach was the one that came out a
year ago and named him the starter before camp even began,
said he was the future face of the franchise. He
used the H word when he was the number two
guy behind Will Rogers. So when your head coach comes
out and is that excited about a quarterback, and I
kind of in some ways understand why he did it, guys,
(34:36):
because he's trying to keep him on the damn roster
from transferring. I mean, it's a different story now versus
twenty years ago. I mean Don James never talked like that,
because maybe Don James never had to talk like that,
but it is hard to not be that fired up
for a quarterback when the head coach is the one
you leading the charge.
Speaker 4 (34:54):
Yeah, And I think in addition, he was kind of
saying what a a lot of us thought when when
you first see him elude somebody in the pocket, right,
just go like whoa, that is just crazy twitch like
like the potential and the yield on that. The problem
is against the better defenses. You know, they have a plan,
(35:16):
you know, Matt Patricia says. He says, you know, the
defense coordinator for Ohio state. He says, look, I got
some dudes too, now you know. And then next thing,
after sixty minutes of football, demon has I think was
it twenty one yards of scrambling or under twenty yards?
And and he says, you know, I've had to defend
Kyler Murray and Lamar Jackson and you gotta you know, so,
(35:38):
so it's got to be more. It has been more, unfortunately,
you know, as those four games over ninety QBR. That's
damn good. But what's the It's the opponents.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
Yeah, well it's not. And it's not all just Jed's
enthusiasm for him. It's also the way he played in
the sun Ball too, they got He throws a beaut
foot ball.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
Look look he he he looks like God put on
the planet. Not only to be twitchy and be the
last guy who ever gets tagged on the on the
recess in tag, he also looks beautiful when he throws
the ball. It's quick, it's compact, it's over top. He
spins the hell out of it, great spiral like like
(36:16):
he is not some like, well let's try and force
a halfback to play quarter bright And then you look
and you go, oh my god, that throwing motion is
just it hurts my eyeballs. My eyeball is a bleeding
watching that.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
All right, we gotta run, we gotta run. It's a
great bleeding eyeballs is a great way to stop. We'll
just stop it right here here the man on Sunday,
enjoy the evening well, Hugh Millon joining us, will be
with him again on Monday at four o'clock. We're gonna
break a little fun with audio. What's that dick coming next?
On a Friday night? Right here on ninety three three
