Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time for our weekly conversation with college football analysts.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Petros Papa Enekas not that I'm a smart guy, I'm stupid.
Brought to you by Sweet James Accident Attorneys, forty one yards.
Speaker 1 (00:11):

away at eight hundred, five hundred and fifty two hundred.
Sweet James will be sweet to you, but tough on
insurance companies that will bully you. I don't know us
now with Petros Peers, Dave's Softie Muller Los.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
There we go. Busy Wednesday continues right here on ninety
three to three KJRFM and has always every single week
chance to talk to, let's face it, one of the
most in demand sports talk radio guests the industry has
to offer. The King, the undisputed heavyweight champion of sports
talk radio in Southern California, husband of the year, Father
(00:55):
of the Month, and one damn fine break American. It's
our buddy, pet Papa Ducky's brought to you.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
By the one and only Sweet James, the dense beard
of Justice. Yes, Sweet James could come through for you.
He's come through for me. If you've ever been in
a car accident or a motorcycle accident, or maybe a
dog has beating your balls. Whatever it is, Sweet James
knows how to help people just like you who have
(01:23):
been taken advantage of by the insurance company. Give him
a call eight hundred and nine million or sweet Giant,
oh dot com?
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Uh well, Husky fans are tearing each other apart up
here in Seattle Peal?
Speaker 4 (01:34):
Why, what's the matter? What's going on?
Speaker 2 (01:36):
You got the Will Rogers camp, You got the demon
Williams camp.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
What do you do?
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Who do you start?
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Well?
Speaker 2 (01:41):
You saw where you know what happened UCLA. They benched
Will Rogers and they went to demand the kid. He
had three consecutive scoring drives. You look good. He was
running around looking like Kyler Murray and vintage Russell Wilson out.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
There and the kid from Chandler Arizona.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
That's right. Now, there's a big debate about who the
Husky should start in Austin Stadium next Saturday, in ten
days from now? What would you do?
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Is he just a true freshman? Correct?
Speaker 5 (02:06):
He's eighteen years old? The bash of Bear, that's right,
very interesting And what did Jed the Fish have to
say about.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Jed the Fish said he's not going to tell anybody anything,
which is smart by him.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
I'm zipped up. I'm sorry it's.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Too early for that. I think Jedfish desperately wants to
tell the world that Demon Williams is going to start
against Oregon. He's already proclaimed in the face of the
program next year for crying out loud. He's already giving
him the starting job before springball even starts. But I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
I guess he figures that it's time to look to
the future because they're obviously not competing for a Big
Ten championship. Although beating UCLA was good, it's better than losing,
that's right. And they're Bowl eligible, right yep. So these
are things you're going to get to spend Christmas in
El Paso again or something like that.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
That's not gonna happen. No, not a chance in hell.
Well why not. I'm not spending Christmas in El Paso.
They might be spending Christmas in El Paso, all right,
you kidding me, mister spoil Sport. I'm not going to
El Paso for Christmas. Not a chance in hell.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
El Paso City, Real bron.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
In the West Texas town of El Paso.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, Marty Robbins, it's that song. And then that song
was such a big song. He then later did El
Paso City.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, I'm not going to l Paso for Christmas.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Come on to the Tony Loma bootstore.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
You know, I am, I am. That's fine, That's fine.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Anyway.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
The point is it's a good thing that uh that
that they won the game. And if the young player
has got a chance to develop, and Jedfish is obviously
not going to jump to another job or anything like that, right,
He's gonna stay and build Washington football and do hopefully
(04:07):
what he did in Arizona, get him to ten eleven
wins and and and winning big games at the end
of the season. Then then he's probably gonna want to
start playing the young guy. Now does that mean you
should bench Will Rogers altogether? I mean I was calling
a game at the time. I mean, you tell me,
is Will Rogers that bad?
Speaker 2 (04:27):
He looked pretty bad Sat Friday? He had a rough
go Friday. He basically threw three interceptions in a row.
The first one he got bailed out because what's the
corner's name, oh, the Daho or whatever. For UCLA Basically
he lowered his head and hit him in the ass
after a throw, and so they caught a late hit
and so the pick got laid. He got speared in
(04:47):
the ass thousand percent by a cornerback from UCLA that
was like hours after the throw was made, and it
took a pick off the board. So outside of that,
he would have thrown three interceptions in a row.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
So he struck uggle.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
The young guy came in, and it's something for everybody
to be excited about.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Everybody's been kind of like you're getting football, you're getting.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
The vibe, right, Yeah, And now Jed the fish can
hang it over Oregon's head like a cudgel until until
when he doesn't have to say anything.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Right, it's not injury related and that's right, that's right,
which I think is the smart move, don't you.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
I wonder how he'll handle it with the television broadcast team,
as long as he tells them who's going to start.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
I'm cool you think he should tell them, Yes, absolutely,
unlike Kyle Whittingham.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Yes, how about how's that whole cam rising thing worked out?
Speaker 4 (05:35):
How's that? God?
Speaker 2 (05:37):
I just wonder if we've seen the last of Kyle
whitting him like, this is it? Well, they have an
interim I mean, or a coach in waiting and Scaley
scale Sorry, Ludwig, we got fired. But uh I like
Scaley a lot, and I think that they'll do well
with him. I think he's a really good guy to
take over if there's such a thing, if it's such
(05:59):
a hard, hard thing. You know, my coach that recently
passed away, we talked about John Robinson. One of the
things he did that was so impressive was replace a
football icon, legend type of guy, John McKay. And that's
what Calein de Bores attempting to do at Alabama and
having success. I mean, he's in the top five right now.
Right we're here around Thanksgiving, it's cupcake week for the seaside.
(06:23):
So they played Mercer last weekend. Oh Alabama did so.
They've already had their suites and they went up three spots.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Oh, some people like to have a nice suite taste.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Don't you think that's for scrap though? Did they do that?
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Look? I mean I don't.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
I don't want to say too much about it because
it just we've talked about it for so long because
it's a corporate thing and we're all corporately controlled and
top to bottom, it is a TV show and the
ESPN company Disney basically owns the College Football Playoff and
the rights. Yeah, and they own the SEC. So it's
(07:05):
it's not pleasant.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
You know.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
They start pushing for their four loss teams to get
in around Halloween, and you know, I thought Danny Canel
said something really interesting because until we have some kind
of protocol and this is I mean, I'm not all
for college football being exactly like the NFL, you know that, right,
And I'm not all for college football changing itself to
(07:28):
look like the NFL completely all the time. But there
are some things that you should do, and one of
them is just have an even playing field. Like who
cares if the NFC is better than the AFC, because
that's what the playoffs are every year. And if you
even if your division was the best, you know, there's
(07:50):
no weird committee to put you in. And we never
like yell and scream about the Super Bowl being you know,
this is rigged by a company, the super Bowl, you know,
I mean, it's it's a it's a true playoff. And
if we're gonna do this and put a whole bunch
of teams in. We got to get rid of the committee.
I mean, it's just so stupid. Nothing ever good, almost
(08:12):
ever comes out of a committee.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Are you talking about just getting rid of the rankings altogether?
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (08:17):
I mean, so how would you decide the twelve teams
in the playoff or that have.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
A protocol to do it? You know, the top two
teams here, get in the top two teams here, this
team whatever, whatever the protocol is to where you don't
need a freaking committee.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Every conference in FBS, you take your top two teams
and that's it. Yeah, like whatever, you move on. Even
if there's a third team somewhere else, that's way better
than a conference champion somewhere else. Hey, that's your problem.
Should have won your conference.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
Exactly, like something that we can lean on.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
So, because I thought Danny Knell made a really good
point he said, we're what would the committee know? I mean,
we're all supposed to be experts on this, and most
of us that are experts. Yeah, they get paid on
TV to talk about the game while the teams are playing.
We're we pick it about five hundred right now, you know,
(09:07):
I mean all the bet online guys and all that
I mean, what does the committee know that?
Speaker 4 (09:13):
And then it just leaves the whole thing up for they.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Honestly, what do they know that? Like you and I
don't know nothing right right or or or or or anybody. Yeah,
I mean, I'm not talking and stage any five star hotel.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
They have to have limos driving them around.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
They're all drinking kettle one dirty martinis.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
It's you know, I.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Mean, it's you're exactly right, Like they don't have any
inside information that we don't have.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Hell, I don't know how we got off on this tangent,
but yes, everybody should play and and and even if
they're still going to be a committee, because God knows,
from your cold dead hand, will we rip that martini away?
Miss or mister ex athletic direct for this stupid Poda
kicker school. I hope you're enjoying the four seasons in
(10:06):
New York. I mean, even if we're still going to
have a committee, for God's sakes, can we limit cupcake
week to September the month of September? And can we
all play the same amount of conference games?
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (10:19):
I mean can we start there? And the answer is obvious,
The answer is no, because the SEC doesn't want to.
And they're connected to ESPN, which is connected to the playoff,
which is connected to my.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Sorry Petros, Papa doc is with us. Oh, cupcake week
does continue in the SEC. By the way, this week,
Caitlin had mercer a week ago, but Arkansas has got
Luisiana Tech. South Carolina's got waffered.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
It's like a buffet.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
Oh god. Hey, by the way, you didn't even really
answer the question about Demon Williams and will Rogers. Uh
would you start the eighteen year old? Is that what
you would do?
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Man?
Speaker 3 (11:07):
I guess I would, But it's kind of sucks that
guy transferred in for you to be your quarterback.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Yeah, and is he getting paid.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
He's getting Yes, Yes, he's doing.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
It's cool, he's getting paid.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
It's fine. Well, but we're talking about you know, just take.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
That money down to the pike and get a nice
bloody mary and fish and chips and look.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
At the sound.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
He can do a lot more than that. He's actually
a great dude. You should have seen him after he
got benched on Friday night. He was out there like
hooting and hollering, you know, giving his teammates encouragement, slapping
high fives, doing all that stuff.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
So these guys, these guys have been around and they know.
It's not if it's when you know somebody's gonna take
your job or you're gonna get hurt or something like that.
It's the And now that these guys are getting paid,
I don't feel as bad as I used to, like,
oh god.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Well but it's more than money though. Man, It's about
the opportunity.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
Okay, yes it is.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
It is about the opportunity and the camaraderie.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
This ain't air force, all right? What else you were talking? Hey,
speaking of air force? God, they kicked the crap out
of the beafs. Did you see what Dickard said, by
the way the other day?
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Yeah, that was that was interesting. But he's right, I mean,
everybody's right. They would have left, just like the Oregon
and Washington people were all bent out of shape when
USC and U c l A bounced the big ten
and then they caught the next train.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
That's not true. Nobody was bent out of shape when U.
C l A and US he took off. Everyone everyone
just said, now we're just it's every man for himself. Well, yeah, people.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Were pretty better out of shape, softie. I mean we
could go back and look at him. All right, fine,
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. You're like my wife, you know,
don't tell a woman to calm down. Oh no, you
were pretty bent out of shape. Oh my god. I
did not act like a bitch. When they left, I said,
good for them. Now we gotta go out and do
(12:58):
the same thing.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Check the tape. It's making stuff up.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Man, people look Arizona, Arizona State. Everybody was kind of
had their their crooked puzzo over seu UCLA leaving because
I have a crooked poots about it, in hindsight, ruined
the conference. But that being said, you know, everybody was
able to jump off and do what they wanted, except
for those two. And they're sitting on a pile of
cash and bitching at each other, and they're gonna play
(13:22):
each other twice next year, for God's that's right.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
That's right. Well, I just love what he said there eight.
They're not our buddy. He's not my buddy. I love that.
I mean they're trying to, you know, act like they're
just locking arms, you know, walking down the you know,
highway of college football, showing people the way things need
to be done.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
They're pissed because they lost in college football purgatory Albuquerque.
New Mexico called the game, and it was glorious. It
was glorious. I mean, I'll tell you what, Bronco Menden
Hall is an inspirational football figure. I don't care what
anybody says about him. I cannot believe that he is
doing things at New Mexico that means they're playing actual,
(14:02):
meaningful games for them in November.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
It is amazing.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
And their offense is completely flipped. They have like a
two hundred yard rusher from quarterback and running back in
every game in the last month and a half. They've exploded.
And it's just having done some New Mexico games and
seeing how much they've struggled and what a lack of
history of success they have at all. It was amazing
(14:28):
to see that. And they were coming close to doing
that to somebody, and Washington State was right for it
because they only barely survived at Fresno, they only barely
survived at San Diego State, you know, taking advantage of
the opposite team's mistakes, and it finally caught up to
him out in Albuquerque.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
I haven't been to Albuquerque in a long time.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
Not quite a lot Las Crusis jail. But not have
you been to a Los Crusis jail?
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (15:00):
I have not?
Speaker 2 (15:00):
You ever been in jail? No, I don't believe so
well you remember I have not? Do you think you remember? Well?
I may have been in prison, but I'm not, sir, prison,
a jail or two different? I do I get that. Okay,
you've never spent a minute in the clink, ever, I did?
(15:21):
I have not. Okay, well, I'm more badass. I feel
like that you've said that I've got I'm more badass
than you because I spent time in the clink.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
I've always thought of you as that yeah, hard ass right,
kind of like a counterculture Jewish guy, like the leather,
maybe like a pony ball on the top, but like
a ponytail in the back. Oh go, like some fingerless gloves,
like one of the guys in Over the Top, you
know that would arm wrestle.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
With the bone. I actually did wear those fingerless clubs.
When I was in high school. We put our jerseys
on Fridays before home games. I walk around, you have
my jersey, I wim I fingered his gloves just thinking
I was badass. Now I just look like a d bag.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
I think you look great. Soft.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
No, I did look like a d bag. I know
I look great now. Good God. Who do you think
wins the Organ Stain Wazoo game over the weekend?
Speaker 3 (16:17):
I think was will beat him. WASH's got John Mattier
is the great engineer. He's a great player, and there's
no doubt about it. He's one of the best quarterbacks
I've seen play in a while. And he's much more
impactful there at that position than cam Ward was, I
believe it or not.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
It's fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
Well, he's got much easier schedule than cam Ward did.
Number one, But yeah, you're right, he seems to be,
you know, more well liked and a better teammate and
leader and all that. But did you hear the story
that there's a report out that somebody already approached Matier
with a million dollar off in a transfer. I mean,
that's but that's what we're talking about, though, Petrov. So
you talked about changing the rankings and are changing the
way they do the playoffs and all that. How about
(16:54):
changing the way you let people contact players during the season, Like,
what the hell is that all about?
Speaker 4 (17:00):
If you're the Pac twelve pay the million dollars.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
The conference should pay it, right somebody, I mean, at
what point, like, I mean, think about it. Not a
bad I mean, I'm just I don't know where this
is going. I mean, this is also stupid. None of
us could have imagined this ten years ago, even though
we predicted it. But you can't imagine it and think
about it. Let's say that I don't know who's the
(17:24):
best player in the Big ten right now.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
Who's a young player?
Speaker 2 (17:29):
I don't know, Maybe Demon Williams, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
Okay, let's say Demon one guy yet lights the world
on fire next year, and and the Alabama's going to
pay him two million dollars to come over to Tuscaloosa.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Yes, yes, what's.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
To stop Fox from saying no, no, he's not going
we make too much money, you know? Or like if
Shadur was, you know, two years younger and he wasn't
going to the NFL.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
Who's got the Big twelve rights?
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Is that?
Speaker 4 (17:58):
Fox? Fox?
Speaker 2 (17:59):
And okay? Right?
Speaker 4 (18:02):
Yeah, so it's interesting.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
I mean Fox basically owns the Big ten already.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
Yeah, I've said that, it's yass.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Right, So if they're if they're going to benefit the
most then you're absolutely right they should be, and the
schools are getting TV money already. I guess the question
would be do the networks? I mean, they have the
right to do whatever they want, I guess, But is
it is? It? Is? It? Is it fair? Is it
all above board for the networks to be helping one
team and not another fair?
Speaker 4 (18:29):
None of it is above board?
Speaker 2 (18:30):
It was I'm trying to tell you it was a
good idea, all right, really good idea. All right, we
got to run good stuff, all right, thanks for doing this.
Get rid of me, pet truts, Papa doocas with us.
We're gonna break. Kevin Harlan coming up at five on
