Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's time for Sadi and Dick's weekly visit with Seattle
Kreckon head coach Dan Bilsma, brought to you by Dick's
Drive In, serving great riggers, fries and shakes the hockey
fan since nineteen fifty four. Step into one of the
nine Dicks Drive Ins locations today now with our head
coach Dan Bilsma.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Beer's safdian Din.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Right wing side to the corner for Schwartz trying to
flip it out of Cronis Donny Gord right on.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
The doorstep and look Krackin take the three to two lead,
nine twelve left in the third.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
You know, I always wonder, Dick, how many of these
coaches get to hear those calls. I mean, unless they're
going back and checking the thing out when the game's over,
or they got the audio on a headset there on
the bench. They want those calls, Yes, So I wonder
what our guest, Dan Bilesma thinks of his play by
play man and that that goal by Yanni Gord last night,
(00:56):
that was a pretty good call, coach.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
That was a great call. My hairsted up on my
back of my neck in my arms. That was an
awesome call. Did perfectly describe the emotion of the game.
I would feeling how the ven was feeling. Yep, that
was awesome. I'm gonna go tap that guy in the
shimpads for that call.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Yeah, that's all it ever fits you, and he deserves it,
by the way, So give him the business for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Just so you know. It's a bowling green guy. Yes,
there I go. There I go, another bowling green guy.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
That was something impressive last night. Man, for lack of
a better question, where did that come from last night?
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Coach? That's a great question and one we need. We
need the me and the team need to keep finding
that answer to that question because I think after the
home stand there, the San Jose, Anaheim, Anaheim, San Jose,
San Jose games, we were disappointed in as a group,
disappointed in what we put on the ice. That that
(01:52):
Carolina game was a huge answer to that.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
So how close to what you hope you wanted to
see when you decided to make the change to your
forward lines did you actually get in that game?
Speaker 2 (02:04):
I thought it was immediate. Like we played Carolina earlier
in the year, It's a heavy game, it's an aggressive game.
They're pinching down the walls. It's a wall battle game.
Turbo going up with up there in the top two
lines and Gordo going to the wing was, you know,
a response to that type of game. That's where they're
(02:25):
good at. That's where they're good on the walls. And
we knew the game was going to be a kind
of a man's game we labeled it, and we saw
that response right up the top. I think, Shorts, he's done.
You know, the guy is the group. We've had a
few discussions in the last few days about who we
are and how we want to play, and Shortzy was
(02:45):
first and foremost and a lot of that discussion, and
you know, he steps out with that played from Gordo
the first shift of the game that they kind of
we said before the game it's enough talking AND's go doing,
and that that was doing.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
No, I love it well. Dan Bosma was with us
as weekly visit courtesy of our friends at Dick's drive ins,
and you know, Dick mentioned the change in the line there.
I think you mentioned before the game that you were
looking for big boy hockey. What does that mean? What
is big What does big boy hockey mean to you?
Speaker 2 (03:12):
I don't know, it's it gives me a little, uh,
a mental imagery of football winning the line of scrimmage,
you know, manning up winning the trenches. You know, it's
gonna be nose to those, it's gonna be physical, it's
gonna be tough. Big boy hockey is just manning up
to that, you know. And I think in the first
game against Carolina, they you know, I think you could
(03:35):
say at times it was meant against boys, and I
just thought it was. We knew the game was going
to be a physical one. They were a team coming
off two losses. They were a team that is aggressive
and physical and makes it along the battle along the
walls type of game. And and uh, I thought our
guys answer that wholeheartedly in this contest.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Dan Miles my coaches show here on ninety three went
three kJ R FM And Dan, when you make a
move with a veteran like Burakowsky, what is that conversation
like And do you feel like this is a long
term move?
Speaker 2 (04:11):
No, it's not a long term move at all. I
think the conversations you know, have have happened over you know,
it's not a one day conversation. It's it's a conversation
over you know, the whole season to be to be
to be honest, you're having the conversations with the guy,
the expectations of his game and what he's bringing and
(04:32):
what he's good at. And I think this situation is
no different than the Shane Right, you know, sitting out
Shane Right for a few games and having a reset
and having a kind of just a refocus and and
what you're good at as a player, what you can
bring to the team. And it's this is it's not
a long term thing. It's a short term thing. I think.
(04:54):
You know. The great thing about Andre is he's you know,
he puts everything he's got into his game and everything
he's gotten too his thought. He's had that response earlier
in the season, and I'm confident they'll have it again.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Well, Dan Bousman again with us every Wednesday. That's the plan.
Three forty five courtesy of our friends at Dick's Drive ins.
And look, I mean, obviously we know who's getting the
bulk of the starts inside the net, and it's Joey
to Cord. But Philip went out Grubauer on Friday and
gave up seven goals against San Jose. What does he
kind of need to show you that he's kind of
(05:29):
on the way back here.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Well, I think going into the season, I think we
we thought, we still do think, was we have a
great goaltending Tannam. We got two guys who have Joey
kind of more last year than obviously Groovy's had a
long career and been doing it for a while, but
Joey is established himself as a guy who could take
the net, did for about month and a half last
(05:53):
season and put up some great numbers. Groovy, you know,
responded late in the year and was the goalie eight
in the years as the season while down last year,
he did it in the playoffs or two years ago
for the Krack and was great in that. And I think,
you know, we still I still look at both of
them and say we got great goaltending from from our tandem.
The numbers early on the season were dead even for
(06:15):
the guys pretty much for the first ten games, and
uh Ruby got had an injury, had had an accident,
and Joey had the net for four or five games
in a row and did really well with it then.
And you know, I think over the last three games
games we look at the Anaheim game and the San
Jose game and then the San Jose game at home.
(06:37):
You know, where's there's one or two in there that
we wish we had back at the goaltenders wish they
had back, and that's part of the story. But Joey,
you know, Joey Good went in last night, played a
real solid game. Didn't have a ton of work. It
was a few shots that we've held that Caroline has
been held under and the Rod Brendanmore era, and he
(06:58):
didn't get a ton of work in it. But Joey
was was really solid and got the win. And you know,
we got three games and four nights here, so we're
gonna see both goaltenders in the next three days. And
guy just needs to go in and be the goalie
he is for us and we'll be fine.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Well, I'm back to back.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
Coming up the next two days. You had a team
in last place in the Metropolitan Division, the Islanders, followed
by a team that's in first place, the New Jersey Devils.
So talk about how problematic those teams are.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Well, we you know, the part of the part of
our situation. After the three losses in a row, we're
faced with with a hard road trip against some really
good teams and some places since some buildings the Krack
and have never had success and so we we had Carolina,
it's we've never won in that building before. We hadn't
had a lot of success against that team and in
(07:47):
the Crack and history, and we took care of that challenge,
which was awesome for the group first went in there.
And now we're facing the Island. You said the Rangers
are the Devils. We've never won in the Devils. We've
never won in the Range. So they're all good teams.
It's it should be a dauting challenge for the guys.
It's one we're well aware of. I think you know,
(08:11):
as we rose to the challenge in Carolina, we have
to dig in and rise to the challenge of three
and four nights against some really good teams and some
tough places. So I'm pretty excited about it, to be honest.
The guys, this group of guys seemed to rise to
the rise to the challenge when it's presented to them
and they know what's there in front of him right now.
(08:33):
So I'm I'm excited to put the skates on tomorrow
night against the Islanders.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Yeah, no doubt, go get him. We got that game
pre game four faced off four thirty, and we're glad
you won last night because I got to ask you,
is there any way that you would ever be in
such a bad mood where you would tell Dick and
I to take a height?
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Well, you know it's obviously it's been on my reminders
that we were talking today, so I was it did
go through my mind. I sure hope, I sure hope
we win four in a row. I'm not gonna lie
to you, so I was gonna do it no matter what.
But I'm much much chippier of a mood, having one care.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
No question. All right, we'll go make it too in
a row with the Islanders tomorrow. Man, good luck, and
we're talking a week. We appreciate it, all right, Thanks guys,
all right, you got it cracking Islanders tomorrow again. Pregame
starts a four face off at four point thirty. Big thanks,
by the way to our friends at Dick's drive Ins.
