Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Sounders FC Postmat Show.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Sounders FC Soccer is brought to you by Delta Airlines,
proud to donate one soccer ball for every mile rand
by Sounders FC players this season through Rave Foundations One
Mile one Vault program and by Providence, Swedish official healthcare
partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC Postmat Show
(00:25):
starts now.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Well for the Sounders it's a big road dub In
Texas three to one over Houston tonight. As Seattle get
all three points, they get goals from Albert Rusnak two
of them and Danny Mazowski his fifth goal in his
many games. He joins the squad of Oba Heemi, Martin's,
Freddie Montero and Roll Ruy.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Diez is the only.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Four players in club history to score goals in five
consecutive games. The moose continues to be loose. Let nobody
keep the moose contained anytime soon. As we welcome you
into the postmatch show. Jackson Feltzpete viewing Diego audio here
for the next half hour. However long we go talking
about the Sounders win tonight, and of course we cannot
(01:10):
really kind of get this thing going without of course
recognizing that. Late in the first half, Houston went down
to ten men a wild situation where there was a
handball initially thought to be in the box. Var stepped in,
took a referee, took a look at it. No penalty,
but yes to dog so. Dogso is denial of an
obvious goal scoring opportunity. That means it's a red card.
(01:33):
Houston went down to ten men and the Sounders killed
him in the second half, with that man down two
goals to nothing in the second half, a three to
one overall win.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Let's just get some overall thoughts.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Boys on the win in Texas, the second half where
we saw a lot of successes playing a man up.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Pete, I'll start with you.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
I like that. We've got three goals. We've got three goals.
Speaker 5 (01:53):
We've got four goals in the one before this, A
couple of games back with Nashville three win over LAFC.
Stevie and Danny we're talking about off season was one
of the things was to try to get goals in
this club.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
I think we're finding them. I love the wing play.
Speaker 5 (02:11):
Holy cow right, we talked, you've got Rothrock gets an
assist as soon as de la Vega comes on the
field in the forty six minute, he gets an assist.
Kent gets two assists. Really at Georgia, Mannugo was wildly dangerous.
We've got a very dynamic team wide. I love Albert
Rusnak coming from deep to finish off those chances.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
Both those chances he came.
Speaker 5 (02:35):
We had a runner going early getting to that near post,
which creates a little space that Albert filled very nicely
and tucked both of his chances away. So a really
good win. You got to give Houston credit for hanging
in there. That didn't make it easy. Their goal was
a really good goal. But yeah, that little excapade with
the with the red card and the penalty kick no
(02:56):
penalty kick kind of flipped the game. But as Diego's
said at halftime, it was a new game in the
second forty five minutes. Seattle came out and put a
stamp on it right away and kind of we scored
in the forty sixth and fifty sixth fifty eighth minute,
kind of ended it pretty quick.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yeah, totally.
Speaker 6 (03:11):
We were talking about keys to the game before the match,
right starting with the right foot, and that's how the
second half started. Right a minute in and we see
Albert Rusnak disclosing the play and scoring quickly. I love
to see to your point, Pete scoring goals definitely, but
also see that dynamic team that you can tell these
Sounders are different from the Sounders who started the season.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
That you have a rockie start.
Speaker 6 (03:34):
And now we're also even talking and during the call
Danny and Steve, they're talking about the bench and the
powerful bench that we have. We haven't seen that in
a while, to be honest, in terms of Saunders, that
who can come in and can change the entire game.
We saw pederl ly la Vega as soon as he
started and he was hot. And also Albert Rosnack to
your point, love to see a box two box type
of player closing those plays and scoring. And also I
(03:59):
have to say I love to see Stephen Fry in
that safe. He reminded me up of the final against
Toronto twenty sixteen. Twenty sixteen. It's so similar rights the
other way side of the goal, but it was just
like it was like a flashback.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
So love to see a good say that's.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
What you need. You need your goalie to make. You
need him to do his job.
Speaker 5 (04:19):
And make you know, cluck crosses and be clean there
and be good with his feet and all that.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
But you need to make one goal saving, say.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Because if Houston score that, it's a three. Change the
suddenly and we're looking at an entirely different situation.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
That's exactly right, Pete. But quickly, Diego.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
You were talking about the slow start, right, and it
was very much a slow start.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
But it's funny.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
March twenty second, we faced Houston at home and that
game was a zero zero draw. After that we got
a one to one drag in San Jose. We got
a late goal from Rusnak to equalize that. Then a
three nothing lost at San Diego. But since then, win
over Dallas, win over Nashville, draw to Colorado that I
still think should have been a win if refereeing was
my my taste, win over Saint Louis, win over Houston.
(05:03):
I mean, right now, we're looking at a stretch right
now where it's in the last eight games only one loss,
four wins' that's a pretty darn good run right now.
Games are still to be played to tonight, but for
right now, the Sounders are sitting in fourth in the West.
Pretty darn good situation for Seattle heading into a massive
and difficult two game stretch at LAFC on Wednesday and
(05:25):
out Portland on Saturday. But going back to this game,
you know, I think it's it's so interesting because we
can talk about the great success and it was great goals,
and Pete, I love what you said about rus Neck.
You know, the trailing runs and the assists from dalea
Vega and from Ryan Ken. I mean, my goodness, the
wing play on those two guys, as you mentioned, But
(05:45):
it was kind of that, the the element of going
up a man there in late in the first half,
and I'm texting right now with a reporter down in Houston,
and everybody there is just losing their minds. And it's
interesting because we've been on the poor side of this
now for you know, a few weeks. Things going against
the Sounders for a few weeks, including as I mentioned
(06:07):
a second ago, that Colorado Rapids game on the road
a couple of weeks ago. Well, you know, over the
course of a season, I would say these things even out,
and you know, decisions even out, luck evens out, and
we saw it here tonight where the Sounders didn't get
that win at Colorado didn't get a call go their way.
Well tonight they get a call to go their way
and they get a win. So I would just say
(06:28):
it's a perfect example of you know, the refereeing was
not optimal again, but boy for the Sounders, just the
Sounders team, it kind of shows that over the course
of a season, diego, it all evens out.
Speaker 6 (06:40):
Yeah, I mean, it is what it is, right at
the end of the day, if it's about calling, it
happens to both teams. In this case, it happened to
be in favor for the Sounders and good for the
Sounders at the end of the day. The second half
they took the game like nothing happened and they really
went for it. So that really changed to me the perspective.
And it's unfortunately that's you know, what soccer is about
(07:01):
at the end of the day, and sometimes you know
it's reffing is never going to be perfect, no matter
if you at a var or any technology. It's still
you know, a man's decision at the end of the day,
and it happens.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
But I think.
Speaker 6 (07:15):
Aside of that, and yeah, Houston reporters or they Houston
the team can be upset obviously, right.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
At the end of the day, the Sounders.
Speaker 6 (07:25):
That they had a really professional second half and to
get how they should and also to Houston's greer and
Pete's mentioned Houston also had a few chances, we have
to say in the second half, right they they were
so close, that's say from Stephen Fry and then there
are a couple other opportunities that they just hit the ball,
you know, over the bar.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
But yeah, yeah, I like McGlenn.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
He's twenty one, crafty, confident, really got a good left foot,
and we'll get better and better. You know, you got
to deal the cards you're dealt I understand Houston very
upset about that. I liked what Stevie said about that
there's gonna be two different beach is one Ben Elsen
in the Houston locker room and Brian Schweitzer in the Sounders.
And what he said that Brian would say is let's
(08:06):
put it to them, and that's easy to say, but
then to go and actually do it and get two
goals and then be very business like to be able
to sub as much as we did to get Dave
Rosario on the field, to get wingers on the field.
That was good to be able to take off Gomez
Androtti and put Bell in. That was an important thing
as well, because we may need Bell over these next
(08:27):
two games as well.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
So I want to go player by player for a
few different guys I want to talk about in our
next segment. Before we do that, I'll quickly mention that
with the two goals, Tonight's Toyota Man of the Match
is Albert Rusnak. Your local Toyota Doers are proud to
present tonight's man of the match. Also, Sounders FC Soccer
is presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders
FC and Delta Airlines is probably to donate one soccer
(08:48):
ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC players this
season through Ray Foundation's.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
One Mile, One Ball program.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
We'll go to break continue talking about the Sounders three
to one win tonight over the Houston Dynamo down in Texas.
More Next in the postmatch show, Sports Radio ninety three
point three kjrfmday comes Rothrock right corner of the box,
towards the endline.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
He goes closed down. Now back Anon and.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
It's Massovski fifth goal in five games.
Speaker 6 (09:16):
Can you believe it?
Speaker 1 (09:17):
Missovsky in a rich Fain of Form.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
The Play of the match is presented by Emerald Queen Casino,
the betting capital of the Northwest. As Danny Mzowski fifth
in five, he joins Obath, Emmy Martin's, Freddy Montero Rollruy Diaz,
the four of them the only four to score goals
in five consecutive games.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Pete, I don't know what else to say. It's the
Moose just can't stop scoring well.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
When he came to Seattle a couple of years ago,
I asked Brian, how many goals do you think he's
going to get?
Speaker 4 (09:48):
And I thought he would say eight, because he had.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
A pretty good run with LA, had a pretty good
run with RSL, and so I thought he would he's
capable of this. What I loved about the goal today
is his run is to the near post. He takes
Ethan Bartlow to the near post and then he fades
back about two or three yards. Bartlow doesn't catch it,
and so now he's got a wide open header that's
(10:13):
a lot easier to miss than to make.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
But it was that run that he made that was terrific.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
So he has done a really good job of you know,
that was probably his third touch of the game, by
the way.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
Yeah, when you got that goal.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
But that's you know, we had Chance Fry, and Chance
Fry scored a lot of goals, and he could do
nothing for eighty nine minutes and then score a goal.
And it's and I remember coming to locker room one
day and there's the program for the next game and
it's Chance. Someone's holding him up and he's got, you know,
one finger in the air, and Bernie James is saying
you did nothing the entire game and yelling at him,
(10:48):
and here you're on the cover of the program and
Chance is smiling, saying, yeah, that's not my job. My
job is is to just score goals. And so Missovski
today scored a great goal. We had a game with
UNLV and Seattle. You by the way, Chance, yeah score,
I scored.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Yeah, he loved it. He didn't care. We had a game.
Speaker 5 (11:06):
Where Alex Uh rolled on, scored, smashed a great volley
and then Danny Massovski came and tied it back up
Uh to make go one to.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
One, and then they got a PK. We got a
PK and then we won the game.
Speaker 5 (11:18):
But Danny is just he's a very good goal scorer.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
And again I said it earlier.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
I think Brian Schmetzer leaving him on the game after
getting two good chances in the first half first half
last week and then getting a third chance and giving
him a little more time to get that goal. I
think that gave him the confidence. So uh, and I
was surprised Brian left him one. He may still be
wanting to get more out of him, but he's gonna
go play his old team in La.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
So yeah, that's gonna be a great match.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
No.
Speaker 6 (11:47):
I I love to see Vanovskis scording again. I mean
it's funny always. We were talking before the game. Yeah,
it's it's you know, even Brian Schmetz like I wouldn't
bet on it he doesn't score, he did and know easily.
And now we have daniels Howsky one if he scores again,
right and just beating all records.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
With Oba is the only player I believe it's the
only person to do it six games, so right now
he has the chance to join.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
I thought, if you're a Sounders, you know, longtime fan,
especially the MLS era, when you say Freddy, go Freddy Montero,
right when you say Oba, you go Oba?
Speaker 4 (12:25):
Femi Martins.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
And then yeah like Jordan and now yeah just known
by Danny you.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
Just yeah if you just called him Danny and say
Danny who.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Yeah now but now though now immortality that list.
Speaker 6 (12:43):
But just to add from uh Pete what you were saying,
and it's all about when you're a forward, it's it's
about that keep up that momentum, right, and that that
confidence as well, and I and I think that's why
also he stayed longer in the pitch. But also to me,
it's not easy to be a forward because you really,
you know, you're kind for scoring goals at the right
(13:04):
moment at the right time. And that run that you mentioned,
it's just perfect right the way. It's really hard to
do it on the pitch. It's easy to see it.
He just like goes running and then the ball just
comes straight to him and you know with the heather.
But to do it on the field and getting that
off the ball on mark is it's hard to do, right.
(13:25):
It's not easy for any of it isn't. We're little
tight on time. So I want to continue to run
through a couple other guys I wanted to talk about.
The first is Ryan Kent because he was the guy
we started the pre match show talking about getting his
first start for the Sounders tonight, play sixty six minutes
eventually comes off for Georgie and for Ryan Kent.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
I mean, we will remember.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
That run in the fifty eighth minute where he has
the assist to Albert Rusnack, but for so much more
in this game, we're considering continuing Pete to see the
quality and the magic that Ryan Kent can create. We're
looking at a guy who starred for Rangers a few
years back, and this is a guy who is clearly
(14:04):
coming in at a different level than a lot of
MLS defenders, and he's showing his different level on so
many different plays.
Speaker 5 (14:11):
Well, we heard from Stephen Fry when he got there
and for Brian Schmetzer that he just is relentless running
app players over and over. His final product is what
I really love, and I think it's elevated the entire
winger core because everybody's picking people out instead of just
getting a cross in. It's not enough just to get
I got my cross in. I got six crosses in.
Did you pick somebody out? Did you cut it back?
(14:33):
Did you get it to the near post? Did you
clip the one that he clipped up and over the top,
over the goalkeeper. I thought that was an exceptional So
his quality is good and he's making everybody around him better.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
He's making Georgie do the exact same thing.
Speaker 5 (14:47):
Pedro de la Vega came in with a real spark
in the second half, and I think it's because he
sees what other guys are doing.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
He wants to be a part of it.
Speaker 6 (14:55):
Yeah, And I think I think for Coachmetz, it's it's
the options that you have on the wings. If you
add now Kent and having that experience, he has so
much experience on the way he runs. It's really smart
running right. He doesn't run just for the case of running,
or like you see with Minongu that it's a lot
of power. It's still young, but I think it's just
(15:16):
always the right decisions and it's not easy to be
a winger, especially to finish those those crosses, but also
sometimes even even score. And I love to see Kent
in this moment and also I mean it's the best
moment for a player ahead of a busy schedule in
the summer.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
He has a repertoire and he's not predictable. That's what's fun.
He can beat you going down the line, he can
beat you coming inside. He has Danny.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
Jackson said, what a nightmare to go from having Ryan
Kent running at you for forty five minutes for Dorsey
and then then Georgie coming in or however long he
was on for sixties sixty five minutes. So yeah, I
like him, I just think, and he's having fun. Yeah,
that's a great sign his love.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
He said it now a few times, including the Danny
earlier this week. His love of football is back, and
you can you can see that love and that joy playing.
And boy he is a I mean, right now they
have because Paul Rothrock also was pretty good in his
forty God assists. So right now you have Rothrock, you
have Kent, you have Georgie, you have Ferrera, who can
play a few different spots.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Caedro. The list goes on and on and on.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
I feel like I'm missing somebody, but still the list
goes on and on and on, and these guys are
all competing for just a couple of spots because you
have Albert in the middle, and Albert in the middle
isn't going anywhere, so we're just talking about those two
winger spots, and that list I just gave was five
deep and could probably be longer if you you know
various other things. I mean, it's it's amazing what Brian
Spencer has at his disposal right now, and he's gonna
(16:49):
need it because there's a busy, busy week coming up.
Sounders going to LAFC and then going to Portland one
week from tonight. We'll talk about that coming up next.
I will say the sound of one today and you
all know what that means. You get to win tomorrow. Pete,
you know why? You know what I'm gonna get tomorrow.
That's damn right. That's McDonald's baby bought up. Bah bah bah,
(17:10):
because you get to download the McDonald's app and redeem
your free McChicken tomorrow with any purchase of two dollars
or more at your locally owned and operated McDonald's restaurant.
Down on the McDonald's app today and check out the
deals waiting for you, including your free McChicken tomorrow with
churches of two dollars or more. Again, I tell you, everybody,
do what I do. I did this last week. You
(17:32):
get a mcflurry, you get the McChicken for free. You
get some buffalo sauce on the side. You have a
buffalo McChicken and an Oreo mcfluury. It's the best damn
thing to celebrate a Sounder. When I tell you what that,
we'll get.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
A break here.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
We will come back and talk about the busy two
games ahead for the Sounders. That's next on Sports Radio
ninety three point three KJRFM.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Now back to Seattle Sounders Sucker on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kjr FM.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Sounders win.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
Sounders win three one down in Houston against the Dynamo tonight.
Two goals from your Toyota Man of the match Albert
Rusnak and Daniel Mazowski scoring his fifth in five games.
Good performance all around from the Sanders, who now come
home for a very very short stretch before leaving again
on Tuesday because they have a busy week. First, it's
(18:19):
the LA It's not the It's LAFC on Wednesday. That's
gonna be right here. Sports Radio ninety three point three
kjr FM. It's gonna be Wednesday, seven o'clock pre mat
show seven thirty kickoff down at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles,
where Danny Jackson and Brad Evans will have the call
from down there. You can also watch the match Apple
(18:41):
TV and of course listen in Spanish language l RA
thirteen sixty Buddy and Providence Swedish premat show starts at
seven o'clock right here on Wednesday night, and then after
that they'll come home from LAFC. They'll train for a
day head back out on Friday because they then face
the Portland Timbers at Portland on Saturday evening.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
So busy week for Seattle.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
And you know, it's interesting kind of to continue the
conversation about the depth right now. Winger Brian was able
to make a lot of different substitutes in the second half,
and he's gonna have a lot of choices and options
for how to structure these next two big road games.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Well he is.
Speaker 5 (19:18):
This is where his man management skill is going to
pay off, and his relationship with his players is going
to pay off. They all know, they're all competitors. They
all know that they've got to do the job. I mean,
every single one of them knows that it's about going
out and producing, doing the defensive work, doing all the
running that you need to do, and then you've got
(19:38):
to serve quality balls. You've got to get on the
end of balls as well, and you have to do
your job. The nice thing is he could get a
rotation going Diego that between this game and the next two,
he could have a rotation where they become like their
own unit of okay, you go in, now you go.
Speaker 6 (19:56):
Torture them per And I think you're playing against an
ala that they're playing tomorrow against the best team in
the Western Conference, that's Vancouver. And also LAFC will know
that they're going to be playing an important match at
the end of the month against Globe America right for
that spot for the FIFA Club World Cup, So to me,
(20:17):
they're also looking at some rotation as well. So that
to me, it's it's an advantage for Seattle Saunders in
that sense. And also they come off after this game
with no pressure getting all the three points. And you
can also think about, you know, the biggest clash that
it's against Timbers, right, So to me, it's it's a
it's a really all the factors factors in for Saunders
(20:39):
are really positive. And also with having a healthy bench
as well and having that rotation of players. But also
we need to have Danny Musovski scoring first, and then
you can rotate it forwards as well.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
But you can as you can if you think about
it too, right. That's how we're gonna end this show
by simply answering this question. Does Danny join OBA six
and six? A?
Speaker 4 (21:00):
Why not?
Speaker 1 (21:01):
That was not that sure?
Speaker 4 (21:05):
That was sure?
Speaker 6 (21:06):
I would say yeah, yes, because you always a score
against your former team and that's LAFC, so.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
I took to make up for you.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
I'll say an emphatic hell, yes, he's going to make
it six and six.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
The moose cannot be stopped. He cannot be contained.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
You can only hope and pray that he doesn't score
two on you, because he's gonna get one. All right,
Sounders win tonight, l a FC coming up next, that's Wednesday,
seven o'clock right here, ninety three point three kJ RFM.
Look forward to that match. I want to thank everybody
with tonight's broadcast p fewing diggo audio here on pre
half post. Jordan Thompson and Kiey Dunning are broadcast producers.
(21:45):
Great call tonight from Danny Jackson and Steve Zachawani, and
thanks to myself for running everything to night Jackson felt,
We thank you so much for listening here tonight Sounders
with a three to one win down in Houston. We'll
talk to you on Wednesday for LAFC. Have a very
very good rest of your weekend, everybody, and also a
very very happy Mother's Day to all moms out there.
(22:06):
Happy Mother's Day to Diego, your wife and Pete of
course to Patty as well, Happy Mother's Day to all
moms out there, and all Sounder fans who are rooting
on this team who's now won four of their last
five games. We are rolling into Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Have a good rest of your weekend, everybody, and Fox
Sports Radio is coming up next.
