Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Sounders FC pre Mat Show presented by
Providence Swedish. Tonight, your Seattle Sounders FC face Columbus Crew.
The Provident Swedish premad show starts now.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Well, coming off of back to back one nothing losses,
including a week ago down in Portland. You're Seattle Sounders.
They're moving forward and they're looking to turn things around.
They've landed in Columbus, Ohio to face the Crew, one
of the best teams in Major League Soccer, tonight at
lower dot Com Field. So welcome to the Sounders FC
pre Mat Show presented by Providence Swedish official healthcare partner

(00:37):
of Seattle Sounders FC.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Jackson Felts and Diego Audio.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Here for the next half hour, we are counting things
down until Danny Jackson and Callan Row have the call
of Sounders and Crew, a big match tonight that was.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Rescheduled from early in June.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Columbus Crew made it to the CONCACAFF Champions Cup Final.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
They lost that game.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Sounders still the only United States team and the only
MLS team to win Conka CALF Champions.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
League or Cup.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
But Columbus lost that and that game was the same
day that this game was supposed to be played, so
this got moved here to early September. This is the
international break, so fewer teams are playing. But the Sounders
are definitely not seeing a Columbus crew team at full strength.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
That we will get into here in a.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Little bit, Diego, But listen before we talk about the crew,
and there's a lot to talk about with the crew.

Speaker 4 (01:29):
Not only lineup changes but also just how darn good
they are. Let's talk Sounders.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Back to back shutout losses last Saturday in Portland was
not fun. But I think the big question is offensively, Diego,
what's been going on in these last one hundred and
eighty minutes not having a goal on the score sheet
and how can we turn that around?

Speaker 5 (01:50):
Yeah, Jackson, good to be here.

Speaker 6 (01:52):
So always, to me, this is a it's a crucial
game because you know, to your point, yeah, Columbus is
magnis and team part of the best team you know
of the season.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
You know, if we think about.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
It, we'll talk about that. That's a good conversation.

Speaker 6 (02:04):
But talking about the Seattle Sunders in particular and why
they haven't scored. I think also we saw a last
game against Portland that you know, the biggest clash in MLS.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Right.

Speaker 6 (02:15):
We started to see signs of frustration for some players, right,
and also things not working the way we want it,
and also that lack of cohesiveness on the top. I
want to see today what we've seen from Jordan Morris
so far in the season, in some breakout games like
today when he has a space and has that speed.
I think today is one of those games that Joran
Morris needs to really you know, show up and score.

(02:38):
And we have to talk about also the important players
that are going to be on the field. We know
there's some players that are out from injury, but also
we have to talk about the new leaders of Seattle
Thunders that they have been in the Sunders for five
six seasons. We talked about Jordan Morris, to talk about
Christian Rodin, who's the captain tonight. Those players need to
show up tonight, right. And we also have the question mark,

(02:58):
the big question mark around Pedro de Labega, right, the
pressure that everybody, you know, they just want to see
him scores, They want to see him play that soccer
that we you know as fasts that.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
Are soccer that he was talking about for Yeah.

Speaker 6 (03:12):
And I think that's that's also one of the players
that today they need to He needs also to show
up against a Columbus team. That perhaps is probably if
you need to win against Columbus, I think it's tonight
because you don't have a lot of the starters, right,
and it's it's it's it's it's working at Sounders favor
in that sense, right, having this international break, and if
you look at the lineups that we'll get into it,
it's actually to me it's today is the day that

(03:36):
they have to win against the actual champions, them lest
Cup champions.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Well, let's get into it because there are a lot
of absences right there. We'll give Columbus' lineup in a
little bit when we talk about them, they are missing
six five normal starters, six total players. Not to say
that the group they're putting out tonight is not good,
it's very good, but they are missing some tremendous talented players.
We'll get into them in a little bit, but really quickly.

(03:59):
The Elsea starting eleven for the Seattle Sounders, it is
a little bit different from what it normally is. We'll
run through why here in a moment. Andrew Thomas is
in goal. Al Stroldan, you're right back, Ymr Gomez, Androde
Jackson Reagan. Your center backs, Reed Baker Whiting is going
to be your left back. Holding midfielders are Josh Atensio
and Christian rolled On. That band of three attacking midfielders

(04:22):
has Paul Rothrock on one side, Pedro de la Vega on
the other. They will flip as we've seen many many times.
Albert Rusnak there in the middle of them, with Jordan
Morris up top, now quickly diving into the Providence. Swedish
team health report out is Stephen Frye. He's still in
concussion protocol after that head injury in Portland in the
fifth minute last week. Joel Paulo is out, not even

(04:45):
questionable out, so he has suffered a calf injury. He
is out tonight. And then also rawl Ruy Diaz he
is out with a knee injury, as Brian Schmitzer has said.
So listen, that is three massive players out for the Sounders.
We see Josh Attencio stepping in for JP, we see
Thomas stepping in for Stephen fry and obviously hire all

(05:07):
Luie Diaz. We'll have Danny Mazowski on the bench for
your sounders. Not to mention two players on international duty
new on international.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Duty with Cameroon.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Thus read Baker Whiting's at left back and also Obed
Vargas with the Mexico U twenty threes. Thus Christian Rhodon
slides from the wing down to the holding midfield.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
Diego.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
That's five normal starters of your sounders.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
We can tell you talk about Columbus and how they're
missing a lot of guys. That's five. You know, it's four,
I guess four normal starters with Rowell kind of being
sometimes starter. But listen, it's four normal starters and five
key players for your sounders who are also going to
be out tonight. That is a good amount of absences
here for Brian Schmetzer.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
Yeah, definitely.

Speaker 6 (05:49):
I mean yeah, if we talk about names and you
just mentioned like step and Fry, Joe, Polo Rolridis, those
are like three main starters in the past three seas cornerstones,
cornstars of the Seattle Sounder crucial to win the only
CONKA CAF Champions League one by MLS club. I love
that you said that, of course, but yeah, so, but
I think I think one of the key things here

(06:11):
Jackson is that at least you know, Stephen Fry obviously
he's like the the you know, historical goalkeeper for the
Sales Sanders and but we have Andrew Thomas that is
having a really good season, so I think on the
goal we won't miss him as much.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
Same with Roldridiaz right or Ridias.

Speaker 6 (06:27):
Hasn't been a start of this season at all, and
we seen Jordan Morris taking that number nine position. So
it's really to me the holding midfield with Joao Paolo
and not having over with Bargas obviously because he's out,
and you know, true point, I think that that's what
we're gonna miss. You know, you have Josh a Tensio
that he played against Timbers and I think he looked

(06:47):
as great as we used to see him, right yeah,
and having also Christian right right there.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Look, let's take into that and really quick on I
forgot to mention with those three injuries Steph, Joel and Roll.
Today's Team Helped report was presented by Provident, Swedish official
healthcare partner of Sounders FC. But that duo of Christian
and Josh in that holding midfield, I think that it
certainly wasn't what we wanted to see against the Pearland Timbers.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
There's a lot to improve on from there.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
And I think it's you know, let me see if
you can break this down any better than I can.
You probably can't, obviously you're the analyst. I'm just the
guy talking. And what I saw from them is is
sometimes Josh looked to go forward, sometimes Christian looked to
goot forward. But there wasn't as good a communication as
a need to be between the two over who stays,
who goes, and and that led to some issues in

(07:36):
both in transition on the offensive and defensive end, and
it didn't seem like they were ever exactly where each
other wanted them to be.

Speaker 6 (07:44):
Yeah, there was no fluidity between both of them. And
to me, that that's one of the keys to the
game tonight, right like that, that particular look to those
two positions in the in the holding midfield. If they're
not coordinated, it's going to be a struggle. Because we
seen a Columbus crew even though there's they don't have
a lot of the you know, starters, they're still a
really cohesive team. They like to possess. But also they

(08:07):
play really well in the transition. So if they don't have.
I know they've been you know again Josh attends to you
and Christian. We saw that last weekend that they haven't
been you know, that cohesy because the lack of the
practice together in that position you could see. But I
think this weekend in particular, we'll see we'll see a
better version. That's my hope they must because to me,

(08:27):
that's going to be a key. If they don't have that,
uh coordination, then there's gonna be a lot of miss
balls misplaced balls in the midfield.

Speaker 5 (08:34):
And also in the transition.

Speaker 6 (08:36):
You know, they could they could go, you know, take
like Yamar and Jackson Rigg and at the back and
we could struggle in that and we've seen that also
during the season.

Speaker 5 (08:45):
So to me, that's that's key.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Buyer saw this comment. If Christian and Josh.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Have a good game there in the midfield, the Sounders
will get a result. If they do not have a
good game like they had in Portland, the Sounders will
not get a result.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Buyer saw that.

Speaker 6 (08:56):
But I think to me that that's that's that's the
key to the game. Because also you have on the
other side, and we'll talk more about it, but you
have a Darrington nagbe. Oh yeah, Like it's a guy
that it runs all over the field and it's gonna
it's really hard to not only marking, but also he's always,
like you know, recovering the ball, possessing passing well, always.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
In the space.

Speaker 6 (09:17):
So it's a challenge, right do you have Josh and
a Christian always a Christian with that experience. But I
think Josh to me, has to be that that key
player tonight that he needs to step up. We've seen
Ovid Vargas in the past with Joe Paolo in that
holding midfield that they've been really well and they've gelling together.
They've been working together, but there's work there, and I
think here in this in this pair of players, I

(09:38):
want to see at least a vetter version because if
they're gonna play as we saw against Timbers, then we're
gonna struggle.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
I wanted to talk a little bit more about Jordan
Morris and what he can do with his speed, Albert
Rusnak what he can do with the set pieces. We'll
have to push that a little bit later on, but
before we do take a break, I do want to
talk to you about Pedro de la Vega because one
of the things that we talked about on the pregame
show for the Portland week ago was it looks like he's.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
Really putting a lot of pressure on himself.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
And then the Portland game happened, and we're still saying
it looks like he's putting a lot of pressure on
himself because of coming off the injuries. He knows he
needs to, you know, be the star player that the
team signed him to be as.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
A you know, young.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
DP to be a DP winger and such a talented kid.
And it's the weird dichotomy today, Diego of you want
to step up in this massive game against Columbus and
be a star and do all these things, and naturally
that comes with pressure, but also you don't want to
put too much pressure on yourself. So he's got to

(10:38):
play these things against each other and also not worry
about getting another injury.

Speaker 6 (10:42):
Yeah, it's really tough because you're talking about how to
have the right balance. Yeah, and you're talking to a
young kid. It's a kid, he's a young player. He's
super talented. But also you see with the experienced players,
they know how to regulate themselves and they know how
you know when to do like their one hundred and
ten percent went to you know, cut back to eighty
percent during the game.

Speaker 5 (11:01):
I think with Pedro, what's gonna be.

Speaker 6 (11:03):
Key is like the first I would say, thirty thirty,
thirty five minutes, he needs to go his way because
if he starts missing balls or like chances push, he's
gonna get Yeah, he's gonna push, He's gonna get frustrated,
and then that's what the risk of getting an injury
or you know, just trying too hard and trying too much,
and he's gonna I think he needs to be the
first the first three minutes. He needs to be completely

(11:23):
focused the game. It needs to go their way. Also,
the Sounders, they need to make an effort that not
only Pedro has to do everything or tries Pedro to
just take the ball and you know, take three guys.

Speaker 5 (11:33):
He doesn't have to do that, just take one guy.
One guy passes.

Speaker 6 (11:36):
To the space and then you know, if he hits
an open shot, we see like the quality that he has.
So I'm hoping that the first thirty minutes the Sounders
you know, add a lot of pressure and then pederal
by acontly show himself hopefully so.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
We're twenty five minutes away from kick at lower dot
Com Field in Columbus, Ohio. Today's kind of KIOFF is
presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the entertainment capital of the Northwest.
We'll take a break and talk about this high powered
Columbus team and specifically what they are missing and what
their head coach, Wilfred Nancy, maybe the best coach right
now in Major League Soccer, what he has to work

(12:09):
with with his crew. We will take a break and
come back next on Sports Radio nine fifty KJRM.

Speaker 7 (12:15):

Speaker 2 (15:23):
I think we should just continue the conversation we were
talking about off the air. I mean, that was a
really good talk that we'll try to get back to
you later on in the pre match show about the
influence at Readbaker Whiting today and how important he's gonna
be so uh. You might hear that throughout the game
with Kellen Row and Danny Jackson, who are on the
call for Sounders Columbus. Tonight here Sports Radio nine fifty
KJR AM from lower dot com field a big match

(15:47):

Sharp Vision Opponent Alex taking a look at the host
today in Columbus. The Opponent Alex each week is presented
by Sharp Vision, Modern LESC and Lenz, the official Lasik
provider of Sounders FC.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
So this cool Columbus team. They are very very good
fourteen four and seven.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
They're tied with Miami for the fewest losses in the
entire league, ten points back of Miami with for the
Supporter Shield with two games in hand. So this is
definitely not the door is definitely not shut on Columbus
making a run at the Shield. They have a straight
wins across all competitions. They're coming off of a four
to win over New York City last weekend. They have

(16:26):
the best goal differential in Major League Soccer at twenty
eight fifty two goals scored just twenty four conceded. That
is the lowest in the league. And oh, by the way,
they just won League's Cup beating LAFC a week and
a half ago, and they are the defending MLS Cup champions.
But Diego, as we've kind of hinted towards last segment,
they are missing a bunch of very key members that

(16:50):
will make this a different game.

Speaker 19 (16:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (16:52):
Yeah, well with all the statsies like throw out there, Yeah,
it's hard.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
To get they're really good.

Speaker 6 (16:57):
We're talking about the MLS Cup Champions League Cup Champions,
and yeah they they they played three finals in the
last nine months and they want to right, just saying
you think about like what we're playing against. But yeah,
to repoint like they're missing big players, the biggest player
always is cuch Ornandez. Right, he's out for Columbia for
the international window move fars. He also a good player

(17:21):
for Algeria. We have a Simio Eta for Cape Birdie
Nicolas hanging for Guatemala, Jayson rosso Rode for Canada that's
also a solid player.

Speaker 4 (17:30):
Patrick Sholt for the US play today. He loves to Canada.

Speaker 6 (17:33):
Yeah, okay, that's yeah, that's another topic. Yeah, that's definitely
you know those players. I definitely think Nandez is and
to me it is one of the best players this
season by far, one of the best strikers. And he
has that just that chemistry this season that everything works
well for him, right, every every player that he has
he can finish and his score goals. But also let's

(17:55):
talk about the players are gonna be on the field.
We have a Diego Rossi, right, theywind who scored twelve
goals in the last twelve games that he started. So
we're talking about a guy that also knows how to score.
Also against Seattle Sounders, he actually scored the first if
I'm not mistaken, the first goal officially for LAFC.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
In a regular season here in twenty eighteen.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
It was first half and he just lofted it over
from about nineteen twenty yards out.

Speaker 6 (18:22):
Yet, So what we're talking about, Yeah, so I would
say dig Rossi definitely is a player to watch from
their side besides Dug Darlington Nagbee. That's a you know,
all terrain player that's you know, everywhere and everything you
know goes well when he's playing. But also I think
it's going to be besides all the players that are missing,
I still think Columbus Crew. One of the things that
Wilfrid Nancy has been able to implement to his team

(18:45):
is that they don't lose composure. Right, even though they're
losing stars, they always play the same way. They like
that possession, they play well, they play easy to defeat.

Speaker 5 (18:54):
And also I think we're gonna show it all.

Speaker 6 (18:57):
They're going to show it to the you know at
home as well, even though you know, again they don't
have their biggest striker. I still think it's it's it's
a top caliber team probably, or we can argue if
it's the best team of the season so far. The
actually I'm less Cup champions, but you know, it's it's there,
it's on top. It's to me, top three of the
of the league.

Speaker 5 (19:17):
Definitely.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
It's the weird dynamic where they're ten points back in
the shield race and there's a few teams even you know,
in the standings between them and.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
LAFC are obviously very very good.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
And Miami had the shield right now, but Miami, you know,
obviously the injury to Lionnel Messi.

Speaker 4 (19:31):
There's that conversation.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
So the question of yes, they've been in all these finals,
but is Columbus the best team in the league right now?
And I think when they have all their horses, it's
it's a great debate. I mean, honestly, I would love
love to see an East Final of a full powered
Miami team and a full powered Columbus team because that
game I just, I don't know, no rooting interest, I

(19:53):
just want to watch that game as a soccer fan
because it would be just tremendous.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
And one of the reasons why it would be so
good is because.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
Listen, Miami may have the star names and they may
not have you know, even when you talk about just
you know, quality on the field. They may have a
slight edge, but where Columbus I think has the edge
over every single team in MLS. Sorry to Brian Schmittzer,
is Wilfrid Nancy. Wilford Nancy, in my opinion, is the
best head coach in this league. He's the best American
head coach coaching right now. If United States had not

(20:19):
hired Mauricio Pochettino, I think Wilford Nancy would have been
a fantastic hire because, I mean you look at his
ability to combine the tactical mind and also he's a
great man and manager. Brian Schtzer said earlier this week quote,
he seems to have a good way. He's just a
little quieter, but he gets his teams ready. With his style,
he allows a little bit more freedom and more creativity,

(20:41):
and he's not system based. He lets guys flow. That's
end quote from Brian Schmittzer. And diego his ability to
get the most out of his players but then set
the tactics up to get three points in almost every
single game. It's a quality that that few other coaches
have at that level, even just on the continent.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (21:00):
Agree, I think Will vernanc is the best coach we
have in the league right now. I actually want to
I mean, I think to me was the perfect Kennedy
for the US men's national team with what he's doing
and how the way he played, you know, he coaches,
and also.

Speaker 5 (21:13):
How he gets the best out of each player.

Speaker 6 (21:17):
I was looking at a Chrisy's start, like he in
the last three seasons, his team has scored like one
hundred and eighty three goals.

Speaker 5 (21:23):
So if you think it's it's really.

Speaker 4 (21:24):
Not a lot a lot.

Speaker 5 (21:26):
Yeah, what he's say for to bring out of the players.

Speaker 6 (21:28):
And and to your point, Jackson, I think that was
great when you were talking about innern Miami and Columbus. Yeah,
they don't have the star power if you will play
by player versus Inter Miami or any other big team
in MLS, but the way they play, they make the
player and the side better. Right. And I think again
today with this lineup, there's still a really good team.
And I think also Seattle Sanders have to be really

(21:50):
you know conscious about that, like, okay, do you have
Couch or Nandez today? But you know they still have
a lot of good players and you have the captain
Darlton Nagby and you have the see who kind of
score every chance he gets. So I think Wilfrim Nancy
has been able to implement that mentality in each player
and I think, to me, that's why I always say
Columbus's it's one of those teams that you never want

(22:12):
to play against because it's a team that's gonna, you know,
play until the last minute. And you see this, you
know how they won the championship last year as well
and the Cup and it's one of those teams that
you never can give them, you know, anything, because they can,
you know, take a point whenever.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
Ending will have it.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
Should we mentioned Christian Roma is another very good player.
He's on the bench seven goals, five assists, so we
had to watch out for Ameras in the second half
of this game as well.

Speaker 5 (22:36):
Well.

Speaker 2 (22:37):

Welcome back to the Providence, Swedish premat show Sounders at
Columbus Crew tonight at lower dot Com Field. Before we
head out to Columbus, let's continue here on the premat show.
I'll tell you that the Sounders have leading the all
time seasons, all time series against Columbus with seven wins,
five losses and then seven draws. In that series, twenty
four goals scored and twenty one allows. The Sounders are

(26:48):
up on that. This is the first time these teams
have met in three years. It was August twenty first,
twenty twenty one, which was a dramatic late comeback in Columbus,
a two to one win where the Sounders were able
to get the winner with Will Bruin. That of course
came after twenty twenty MLS Cup, which I absolutely have
no memory of. Let's transition here, diego and get into

(27:09):
our players to watch tonight.

Speaker 4 (27:10):
Who are you going with for Seattle?

Speaker 6 (27:12):
Yeah, well, I don't want to add any more pressure
to Pedro, but I'm gonna be petteral that Vega. I
think it's one of the game is that he needs
to you know, show up and again if we'll talking
about that at a pressure, but he needs to be smart.
And again I know he's young, but he's talented and
I want to see that, especially in the first thirty
minutes to see you know, that fluidity and hoping for
Pedro to have one really good game tonight.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
And balancing that pressure right as we talked about there
in that previous segment for my player to watch, I'm
going with Albert Rusnak, you know, and we can kind
of create this into another discussion point over how the
Sounders can can get a result in Columbus, which is
that they've been susceptible I think more than anything else
to things and that speed where Jorde Morris can get
in behind tonight. And then also set pieces and Albert

(27:53):
Rusnak over the last half season or so has been
great with set pieces and Diego.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
For me, it's Albert both on those.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
Set pieces, placing balls, perfectly for guys like Jackson and Yemar,
but also finding Jordan when he makes those runs. And
by the way, Jordan needs to continue making those runs. Run,
recycle him, keep going, keep going, keep going. But every
single time he does that, he's Albert to make sure
that he's looking for him or whoever feeds him the ball.
But you know Albert's going to have an opportunity. I
think to do that a few times tonight.

Speaker 6 (28:20):
Yeah, I like your pick because I think against the
team that's really compact and they play really well and
have that position, set pieces is a really good way
to open right and have opportunities and score goals and
settle Sounders have been pretty good at it right, and
I think Albert Rusnak has to be also. You know
that guy we seen at least in parts of the
season that he's been really accurate right with the ball

(28:43):
and also hoping to find not only the tall guys
in set pieces, but also Jordan Morris. I think during
Morris again tonight, he has to really come back to
the goal.

Speaker 5 (28:52):
He needs to score well.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
Hopefully the Sounders can use both of them and find
a win tonight. Because Sounder fans, you can down on
the McDonald's app today and when the sound when you'll
win a Freemik Chicken the following day with minimum two
dollars purchase exclusively in the app. We'll take one more

key to the match. How can the Sounders find a
big result tonight on the road.

Speaker 6 (32:43):
Yeah, it's to me it's gonna be one of the
keys matches that that battled the midfield and the holding
meatfield Joshah Tenci on Christine Roldan that pair.

Speaker 5 (32:50):
They need to be really solid.

Speaker 6 (32:51):
We need to see a better version of themselves an
what we saw against Timbers. And they have to be
able to coordinate a.

Speaker 5 (32:57):
Control that.

Speaker 6 (33:00):
Who's who goes, who goes forward, and who goes back
and who states as well. I want to also make
sure that they able to control Diego ROSSI right, we
took about this player how dangerous he is, so they
need to be make sure not only that the center
backs but also read Baker Whitening to be really smart
when he goes up. And finally, we need to see
you know, efficiency on top. And I want to see
Jordan Morris coming back to score again. He needs to

(33:22):
score and this is this game. He needs to have
that opportunity if it's a set piece or a breakaway,
but Morris needs to get get one in.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Listen, we look at Sounders in these big games versus
great teams. LAFC has had our number this year and
this is another great team. And the Sounders can make
a statement tonight that they are still among the best
in Major League Soccer if they can go to Columbus
and get a result against a Columbus team that is
also missing some very key starters including Cuco Hernandez. So

(33:52):
can the Sounders who are missing Stephen Fry, They're missing
Joel Paulo, They're missing a little bit various, they're missing
new who can they find a result on the road.
We will see lower dot Comfield, Columbus Crew, Seattle Sounders,
Danny and Callen have the kickoff next on Sports Radio

face Columbus Crew. Sounders FC soccer is brought to you
by Providence, Swedish Healthcare, partner of Seattle Sounders FC. Regent's
Dream Team is presented by Regent's Blue Shield, proud partner
of Sounders FC. Now time for Sounders FC Sucker.

Speaker 13 (37:13):
Good evening from Lower dot Com Field in Columbus, Ohio,
where your Sounders take on current MLS powerhouse, the Columbus Crew.
The current form of the Crew is reminiscent of the
early years of success under Brian Schmitze. The Crew have
played in three finals in the last nine months, winning
the twenty twenty three MLS Cup and twenty twenty four

(37:34):
League's Cup.

Speaker 28 (37:35):
After losing a hard fought CONKERCAFF Champions League final in
early June, which is why we.

Speaker 13 (37:41):
Are here today. This rearranged fixture.

Speaker 28 (37:43):
May come at an opportune time for the Sounders as a
crew are.

Speaker 13 (37:46):
Missing multiple players due to international duty, including their main
man coucho Hernandez, but based on current form, the crew
have taken.

Speaker 28 (37:55):
The Sounders mantra of next man up and this will
be no easy task tonight for the men in. The
Sounders are looking to get back on track after two
narrow losses to l EFC and the Timbers in the
past two games, and they will be looking to get
a further boost in a very tight Western Conference. I'm
Danny Jackson alongside former Sounder Kellen Rowe.

Speaker 13 (38:15):
For the coll tonight. Before we get to Kellen for
his initial thoughts, let's get you the delta.

Speaker 28 (38:19):
Starting eleven for your Sounders. Andrew thomasin gole a back
four of Alex Roldan.

Speaker 13 (38:25):
Jeamar Reagan and Reed Baker White and coming on the
left hand side Knew who is away on.

Speaker 28 (38:30):
International duty, Josh Atensio, Christian Roldan in the middle, Paul Rothrock,
Rosnek and Della Vegas the three attacking players, and then
Jordan Morris.

Speaker 13 (38:40):
Up front for the Columbus crew. Romero in goal changes
for them as well as you mentioned Zawadski, Camacho and
Cherberco in the back. Perera, Matan, Nagby and Arsten are
the four. In the midfield Chambost, Rossi and Jackson. As
you're attacking three. So as the teams get set, they're

(39:01):
coming out to kick off. Keill, let's get your initial thought.
It's tough place to play.

Speaker 28 (39:05):
The sound is off back to back, won the losses
against the LFC and Portland Timbers.

Speaker 13 (39:10):
What do they have to do tonight?

Speaker 4 (39:12):
This is a game where the Seattle Sounders have to
test their brass.

Speaker 21 (39:15):
Right.

Speaker 4 (39:15):
They're playing against the Columbus Crew, who is arguably one
of the best teams in the MLS right now, especially
with the runs that they've had, and although they're missing
so many players, they've got that, like you said, that
next man up mentality and the guys they're putting in
now are there could be starters on other teams, and
they've done such a good job and are so well
coached by William Nancy. It's just they're a tough team

(39:36):
to have. So if they sit back or whether they counter,
Seattle's got to find a way to break them down
and not just rely on the set pieces, but scoring
the run of play.

Speaker 13 (39:45):
Well for Wilford then, see he's had a great first
two years at the Columbus Crew, coming in from Montreal.
It's putting together a really good score that consistently play
at a very high level. They lead or the very
top of MLS standings.

Speaker 28 (39:59):
In terms of goals scored this year over two goals
scored per game, and then the very best defensive team
as well, conceding point ninety six goals against average. So
it is going to be no easy task for the
Sounders tonight.

Speaker 13 (40:14):
The last game, as Jackson Felts mentioned in the pre
game twenty twenty one, that two to one win here
where they was a Will Burwin goal.

Speaker 28 (40:22):
And I think certain Kellen Rowe was involved in that game.
We'll certainly get that story about that goal, about that result.
And of course the Sounders had so much hope going
into the twenty twenty MLS Cup Final after that incredible
win against Minnesota in Luminfield, and they went down in
that game that in some ways was a reboot of
what Brian Schmitz has been doing.

Speaker 13 (40:44):
The Sounders trying to get back on top in MLS
and it's going to be an important next couple of
weeks for the Sounders. As a referee gets us going
Rosondo Mendoza the Sounders in their anniversary kit tonight green shirts,
shorts and socks. Columbus Crew in all black tonight like shirts,

(41:05):
shorts and socks. They're attacking the goal to our right.
Sounders attacking the goal to our left. As Rossi gets
us going, here we go Sounders big task. Can they
step up and can they get the result? Andrew Thomason
goal in for the start tonight. Stephan Fries.

Speaker 28 (41:23):
Brian Schmiitza mentioned during the week, picked up that injury,
of course early in the game against Portland, Timbers had
to go off with ten stitches and they're going to
be precautionary in terms of how they bring Stephan and Fry.
Bat Ball goes long quickly by read Baker Whiting on
that left hand size you mentioned, good step by Josh
at tense. Her left hand side is Rothrock because.

Speaker 4 (41:44):
He'll let it go.

Speaker 28 (41:44):
He was an offside position. We'll play by Rothrock. Now
he gets it back from a tensire. So certainly some
youth in the side tonight, Kellen, hopefully in a place
like this where they get a have to absorb pressure.
Columbus cruise all seasons sixty percent possession throughout their season.
They'll want to keep the ball even with so many
changes the sounds go, have to absorb and then go
when they get a chance.

Speaker 4 (42:04):
And that's that's exactly right. You want to absorb these pressure.
You know that Columbus is gonna have a lot of possession.
Canna Read Baker, Whiting, Paul Rothrock and even if Page
Dela Vega, can they find their legs and get themselves
running up this field?

Speaker 28 (42:18):
Attensa in the middle of the park, plays it out
to this near side to read Baker, Whiting steps forward.
Little trip by Herrera came in this summer from River Plate.
Played close to one hundred games for River Plate over
a number of seasons. Still got some youth in there,
and we'll talk about it through this game. Columbus crew,
even with all their talent in their starting eleven and

(42:40):
off the bench, they reloaded this summer, added a number
of players, some of those starting tonight with the missing
players from international duty. Mundsern from suspension tonight. He's been
a starter as well, and then we thought Evan Bush
would come into the lineup. He's out with an injured arm,
and it's gonna be that new sign. Romero came in
the summer from LAFC with the ball at his feet

(43:02):
right now, drools it down low, picked up by Zeal Jackson,
local product, former Crossfire player, local roots.

Speaker 13 (43:11):
But actually was a homegrown player from Minnesota kill.

Speaker 4 (43:14):
He look, he's a guy that kind of moved around
with his family a bit and he comes in the
offseason plays plays some pick up with me as well.
And what a quality player this guy is. The creativity
and the audassia some of the things that he tries,
it's pretty incredible, and I think you're gonna see a
lot of flashes from him today and his start.

Speaker 28 (43:32):
Well, given I think it is the ball against the referee,
it's gonna be a drop ball. Anytime the teams are
in possession.

Speaker 13 (43:38):
It hits the referee.

Speaker 28 (43:39):
The team in possession, we'll get the ball back. It
was a rule that wasn't always in play course frustration.
League rules have cleaned that up, as Jackson now chose
a regular click coming off that right hand side. Columbus
Crew will play a three back system similar to LAFC.
But as Brian Schmatzer said in our meeting this morning.
Very different way in which they play.

Speaker 13 (43:59):
Columbus to have possession, like to build.

Speaker 28 (44:01):
Through the lines, lafcl like to absorb pressure and then
just hit teams on the counter with the lights of
bou Wonga and Olivera who just have paced to burn.

Speaker 4 (44:14):
You're seeing a lot of it. Look you see when
you're looking this, so many guys are in those pockets,
in behind Christian Rolldan, in behind josh A Tensio, so
they're always having to turn and check their shoulders. And
when you have a guy like Dont n Agby on
the ball who doesn't lose it very often, he can
pick those passes out.

Speaker 13 (44:28):
Me of course Portland player, Lanta player, I believe a
number of MLS Cups, extremely experienced US international as well.
He sits in the middle of the park.

Speaker 28 (44:39):
It's been a bit of a rotation for the team
over the last couple of weeks as they come out
of a very successful League's Cup run.

Speaker 13 (44:44):
Of course, beating.

Speaker 28 (44:47):
Leefc here lower dot Com Field just a couple of
weeks ago. It comes Jack's the middle of the park,
twenty yards from goal, holds out to the left hand side.
A little combination with click to the back post. Ball
bounces through over the end line. First corner kick four Columbus.
Here in the fourth minute, here's the crew, Neil Sounders,

(45:07):
Neil Callen Rowe.

Speaker 4 (45:08):
I want a little bit more from Seattle. Sounders are
getting closer to the ball. Columbus is having a lot
of space and time inside the box. He's willing to
take a touch to his right and whip a ball
of that back post. And thankfully Read Biker Whiting was
on his nose.

Speaker 13 (45:19):
Yeah, ball clipped in from Offson off that left hand side,
came on his preferred right foot. It's gonna be a.

Speaker 28 (45:25):
Corner kick from this near side the right that man
Rossi ten goals, eleven assists on his season so far.
It's gonna be an outswinger with his right foot. Andrew
Thomas just arms up in the air, organizing his back line.
Sounders Ready, ball comes in headed clear by Jack's egging.

Speaker 13 (45:42):
Nice powerful head. It clears his lines. Sounders step up.

Speaker 28 (45:45):
Ball goes back to Nagby just inside the sound as
half of the field rolls it out to matan little combination.

Speaker 13 (45:52):
Back to read Baker Whiting. Reid needs to have a good,
solid game today. It's been up and down in terms
of his performances.

Speaker 28 (45:59):
A slow star of course, because of injury Kell and
he picked up an injury in the playoffs last year.
Took him a good number of months even into the
early part of the season to get back.

Speaker 13 (46:07):
Now he's getting a chance. Now he has to take advantage.

Speaker 4 (46:10):
He does have to take advantage. And it's hard when
you get that injury and you're kind of breaking up
your games a one game here, in a little bit
time off one game there, you don't really get in
the rhythm and you kind of side there. What a
great touch to beat his defender. He had a lot
of space and he tried the outside the foot, passed
down the line to Jordan and it goes out of bounds.
You know, he's had that youthfulness. He's got to make
sure that he has a little bit of confidence in
his game, but also some cleanliness.

Speaker 13 (46:30):
We are thrown for.

Speaker 28 (46:31):
The sound is on this near side of the left
sound as attacking the goal to left. The crew of
given up goals last couple of games, both to New
York City, once in League's Cup, once in regular MLS season.
Played last week in the first five minutes and Lee's Cup.
It was in the first minute last week in the
MLS four to.

Speaker 13 (46:50):
Win that came back. They gave up a goal in
the first five minutes. That've cleared those lines. Now getting
into the sixth minute, crew again just in possession, as
we expect the crew to be, just dictating play. Even
with eight players out, six or so would be guaranteed
starters is the assistant referee on this near side puts
his flag up.

Speaker 4 (47:10):
Herrera offside because Columbus pushes so many numbers forwards, especially
when they have the ball. You can see Seattle kind
of drop in a little bit. And what's great is
they're not giving up as much space that way, and
it's harder to play a pass through that middle. Is
what Bryan Smetter doesn't want. He wants to force them wide,
making sure it's a one on one in the wings,
and then he's trusting Readbaker Whiting and Alex Willdon Rothrock on.

Speaker 13 (47:33):
This near side.

Speaker 28 (47:34):
Steady Eddie player of course, has always but he's brought
goals into his game this year.

Speaker 13 (47:38):
It's always been successful. Dangerous ball by Jackson.

Speaker 28 (47:41):
Raging on this near side left, try to switch the
point of attack, picked up on that far side left
into the foot of Rossie, who will come off that
high number nine spot and just float around as he
has done in years past. Ball over the top, Ball's
gonna bounce through. Andrew Thomas collects the ball.

Speaker 13 (47:55):
All in yellow.

Speaker 28 (47:56):
Tonight matches is Golden Locks.

Speaker 13 (48:00):
It's been a good addition.

Speaker 28 (48:00):
Of course, god Is got his contract this year, has
stepped in a US Open Cup. Were needed, certainly, as
he saw the beginning parts of the year when Fry
was coming back from an injury, played a couple of
MLS games, and he's never really let Bran Schmetz from
his team down.

Speaker 4 (48:16):
He's one of those guys and the second he came
in he was the hardest working guy in the field.
On and off. He was an incredible professional and even
through some bad injuries that he had in the beginning
of his career, he's really the one the first guy
to say, if you guys want shots after, I'll make
sure I'll make sure to stay after. So he's one
of those good teammates that you hope you're glad he's
having a good season.

Speaker 13 (48:33):
Here's a good Englishman, of course.

Speaker 28 (48:34):
He led his collegiate soccer at Stanford before coming into
the Sounders.

Speaker 4 (48:40):
Went the American way.

Speaker 13 (48:40):
Of course, of course, same way I went, the only
path forward, fall into the foot of Jackson and then
Nagby as they start to build out of the back.

Speaker 28 (48:52):
Cruiser mentioned three Cups finals in the last nine months
to a successful MLS Cup twenty twenty three versus LFC
Here Lower dot Comfield and then of course same opponent
just a couple of weeks ago in League's Cup final
against l efc.

Speaker 13 (49:07):
Here again.

Speaker 28 (49:08):
And then it was in Patuca where they lost that
cc L final back in June, which is why we're
here today. As the deal, Jackson picks it up, little
drop of the should towards the left foottop of the box,
hits it deflection wide corner kick four Columbus crew.

Speaker 13 (49:22):
Sound is just holding strong right now, Ben, don't.

Speaker 4 (49:26):
Break and that's a skill that easy. He brings this
to you right fake shot top of the box. He
takes two or three defenders to get him on his side,
still gets the shot off and he gets a little
deflection for a corner.

Speaker 13 (49:37):
If we'll see a replay of Jackson just comes off
the heel of Yeay Mark go anywhere. Sounders have to
defend their second corner kick of the game. Ninth minute
here lower dot Comfield Sports Radio nine fIF am. Sounders
crew nail nil with that man Rossi with his right
foot this near side, the crew right arm up in

(49:58):
the packed house again here as you expect, ball comes
in referees, whistle goes little Argibarji inside the box. We
a free kick for the Sounders inside their eighteen and
cal you tell me in these games where you know
the crew are playing well even with players missing, it
is next man up. They've reloaded this summer.

Speaker 28 (50:17):
They've got players with experience like Jackson came in from
Saint Louis getting a start tonight, Herrera with river Plate
of course.

Speaker 13 (50:24):
But it's all about.

Speaker 28 (50:25):
Absorbing the first twenty minutes of pressure and then building
from there.

Speaker 4 (50:28):
It is like we said, it's the next man up.
And this Columbus team has a lot of guys who
are wanting to get those starting spots. They're just coming
into the team and these are going to be the
lightning for them to start again, and so they have
a lot of pressure on them. If they can just Seattle,
Sounders can just absorb, like you said, that first fifteen
to twenty minutes and then start to play their game.
It's almost like a chess match. Let the guy play

(50:48):
for a little bit, tire himself out, and then it
becomes a real game.

Speaker 13 (50:51):
Ball switched by Zawatski towards Herrera.

Speaker 28 (50:54):
Who made a dashing run from that right hand side
you mentioned crew played up three four three. But Ross's
gonna play just in that hole, as kuco Hernandez often
does on international duty.

Speaker 13 (51:06):
Today with Columbius, we see a replay here two or.

Speaker 28 (51:09):
Three yards off side, and those are the things killing
that coaches pull their hair out. You see along the line,
No need to go early, You've got some space, and
then he inches forward.

Speaker 13 (51:18):
He's off side.

Speaker 4 (51:19):
I've played those balls, and I've also been the guy
who's been off side, so I know both sides. But
what's dangerous for me there is that Readbaker Whiting had
a guy right in front of him in that pocket,
but then also had her Hera dashing on his other side.
It's gonna be a tough spot for saddle sounders. Who's
going to be the one to help those guys when
they had the wing backs bombing forward, but also someone
right in front of him in that gap.

Speaker 28 (51:41):
Often coming off that left hand side, just dropping his
shoulder clips it towards the back stick. Again, her Ara
acrobatically gets sort of cross saves it from going over
the end line. We'll played little ball around the corner
by roth or good play, but good cover. Now picks
up the ball across the half whale.

Speaker 13 (51:55):
And it is near side the left striding forward trying
to get away from Scherburka, who does a really good
job to come back, maintains possession, cuts the ball inside
to nag me and the crew are going to build again.

Speaker 4 (52:07):
That's the life that you want from a young kid
like Paul Rothbrock, who's done the willingness to run. He's
gotten his multiple starts, but he hasn't stopped working and
I think that's great for him. He's gonna find his
goals coming again. But he make sure that that worth
break is continuing well.

Speaker 28 (52:19):
Sound As FC Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official
healthcare partner.

Speaker 13 (52:24):
Of Sounders FC.

Speaker 28 (52:26):
Get here in the twelfth minute nil nil, third game
against top opposition. It was LFC in League's Cup timbers
last week and then today the team on top of
the MLS pyramid over the last twelve to eighteen months
the crew and they pick it up and clip it

(52:47):
forward towards Ross. He try to get in behind. We'll
see it was that man Rossi at his time.

Speaker 13 (52:51):
At l EFC.

Speaker 28 (52:52):
Lfc's first ever game as a franchise was at Lumen Field.

Speaker 13 (52:56):
He scored the goal.

Speaker 28 (52:59):
In the first time to win that game one to nil,
get the first three points of that franchise history. It's
been a thorn in the sounder side. See a little
replay of Rothrocks going down the line. Can't quite shrug
off Scherburko. Good athleticism by the central defender.

Speaker 13 (53:14):
The Ukrainian signed in July of twenty three.

Speaker 28 (53:18):
So as you mentioned a number of signings out on
the field today from this summer for the crew, Romera
and the goal Herrera signed in August this month from
River Plate gets to start on that right hand side.

Speaker 13 (53:31):
And then as Ziel Jackson came.

Speaker 28 (53:32):
In earlier this summer from Saint Louis, and then Chambase
came in from some etn after helping them to promotion
several times over his career. There there comes Arson left
hand side, just cuts it back, nothing forward. Now it
goes forward to Rossi lays it off to Matan young
youthful energetic play on the left hand side, challenged by

(53:52):
Rossnak comes back to Auston.

Speaker 13 (53:54):
Good challenge by Attend losing athleticism gets nutched off the ball.
Referee agrees to the Sounders cross gonna be a sound
As free kick, just outside their eighteen year old books.
Slow and steady starts so far, Kellum.

Speaker 4 (54:08):
It is you kind of expected this. Seattle's gonna take
a lot of pressure. The Columbus crew is gonna have
a lot of possession. But what I need to see
from Seattle is when they do find that ball again,
not to give it away right away. It's gonna help
them later on in the game when Columbus has all
this pressure defending Ashley, he's a lot harder on your legs,
and it's harder mentally. If you can keep the ball
a few times, get Columbus sitting back a little bit more,

(54:29):
the game's gonna become a lot easier.

Speaker 13 (54:30):
Jordan Moore's down the roight hendsid drops his shoulder. Can
he get that? Cuts it back almost gets the foot
of Russako's coming in from a deep position, gets cut
out well by the Crew, and here come Columbus in transition,
ball into Rossie back to Matan.

Speaker 4 (54:46):
What a good run from Jordan. I mean he's using
his skill, he's got power, he's got speed, gets to
that end line and I mean, what a good block.
But what a chance for that seattles down AHOs. It
was because if that finds the foot of brass Brusnak,
that's gonna be a goal.

Speaker 13 (54:58):
It's gonna be a team in transition. Jan Mars has
that speed in the back three, there will be space
in those channels to take advantage in transition.

Speaker 28 (55:05):
Sanders showed exactly how to do it. And here's Jambost
just floating around as well as the experienced Frenchman and
that who plays it back to him, just in front
of Wilfred Nancy, who's been a revelation here for the Crew.
Let's not forget the Crew. Just a handful of years
ago were debating whether to move west, and then a
fresh impetus to keep the club in Columbus. New investment,

(55:30):
heavy investment with like xecuco Hernandez and look where they
are now, winning championships, winning cups. Able to attract a
coach to the caliber of Wilfred Nancy.

Speaker 4 (55:41):
And continuing their run as well. They won the cup
last year, now winning the League's Cup in the final
for the Champions League and then obviously one of the
best here in the MLS as well, So they're continuing
this run, not just satisfied with the trophy or two.
And he talked about the players that are coming in
in the summer window. This is how good teams continue
sleep good. They have that spark. They have those guys

(56:02):
to come in and challenge the guys who are playing well,
but also if they need a break or if they
get an injury, it's the next man up, and it's
quality next.

Speaker 28 (56:10):
Man up possession for the Sounders they aim tonight per
Brian Schmetz. So it's get to around about fifty percent.
Sounders like to have fifty five percent typically, but it's
in realistic to what they're facing tonight. A possession orientated
team like to play through the lines starting to slip
the other direction. Right now, Sounder is just over around
forty two percent possession. As Columbus doart take a grip

(56:31):
of this game or flicked and good defending by Pedro
Delavaya coming back to do his defensive duties.

Speaker 13 (56:37):
Brian Schmeltzer will like that. Jordan Morris looking to find
some space in behind, just putting his finger down to
point to where he wants the ball.

Speaker 28 (56:43):
Sounds to pick up the loose ball and they come again.
As Callene mentioned, it's going to be important for the
Sounders to keep the ball when they can. Columbus crew
are going to play some higher press, try and win
it high up the field as they're doing right now.

Speaker 13 (56:55):
Heavy touch inside, but good touch by.

Speaker 28 (56:57):
Reed as he plays the ball square to here, who
finds himself a spot of bother but picks up the
rebound from an errant pass from Matan and here comes
Della Veg. A big game for him tonight is needed
for Brian Schmitze as he builds fitness, as he builds
strength and confidence in his body again after picking up
a variety of injuries in his early months of the Sounds.

Speaker 13 (57:18):
Balling behind here, Jordan Morris can't quite get there.

Speaker 28 (57:21):
Rameiro reads it well, it slips away from me on
this slick surface, remains Neil nil.

Speaker 4 (57:27):
That's a good that's a good run. It's a good idea,
just a little bit of quality to get that through
but when you have Jordan Morris kind of slain on
that backside and making that run forward and Albert Rusnak
or Christian Rodan on the ball, that's the ball you want. Now.
Can the Sounders do that again and continue to get
that possession?

Speaker 28 (57:42):
Often on that far side the left, comfortable in possession,
brings it back the Matana who shifts it from far
left to this near side the right finds Herrera has
been involved heavily on this right hand side, far up
the field, Jackson top of the box, quick little turn
on them, brings it back to his left, ball square
into Chambos, who plays it out to.

Speaker 13 (58:04):
The left to astin back inside his crew, just prodding, poking,
try to find some space, try to find an opportunity
to test Andrew Thomas. So far, Andrew has not been
too involved in this game, which the sound is and
Brian Schwetz will be happy about. Ball on the far
side the left is they attacked the goal to our right.

Speaker 4 (58:28):
The matchups for me on him outside in this wing
you got Herrera really pushing against Readbaker Whiting, and I
think that's a little bit of a tactic from a
guy who's been a left back, but also been a
left and right mid. I think they're finding their space here,
but then going inside on the other side with Arstin
and Matan against Alex Willdon. So one side is going in,
one side's going long, and it's gonna be a fun matchup.

Speaker 28 (58:49):
You certainly got the athleticism with Atensio and rolled on
in the middle of the part. They'll still be able
to I don't match any team really from a standpoint
of just covering ground.

Speaker 13 (58:59):
But as we know, the ball moves quicker than a player.

Speaker 4 (59:04):
It's always moved faster than us.

Speaker 13 (59:06):
Always. It's always the first test I give to a kid.

Speaker 28 (59:08):
As the ball goes to the far side, the right,
it's this side the ry, I should say with Herrera
who rolls it into the shins of Red.

Speaker 13 (59:14):
Baker White, it comes across, goes over the end line.
Third corner kick four Columbus. Here in the nineteenth minute
Laura dot Com field Columbus, Ohio or nil nil between
the crew and the Sounders crew on top of the
MLS pyramid right now. The Sounders have been there for
a number of years.

Speaker 28 (59:32):
During the early years of Brian Schmetzer, I was playing
in a four MLS cups too successful, both against Toronto,
the last one being against the Crew. Here in Columbus,
ballgoes short, this time to Chambos.

Speaker 13 (59:48):
That's Rossi goes square to Nagby. Sound is just holding
twelve yards from Andrew Thomas's goal. Will tucked Insideo square
to it.

Speaker 28 (59:59):
Jackson flicked in by ross A good defending and step
By rolled down.

Speaker 13 (01:00:03):
Who's captain for the night? De la Vega this left
foot tries to drill and find Rothrop making a run
that far side. Good vision by de la Vega earns
the throw.

Speaker 4 (01:00:14):
It's good play. Get out of pressure. He took a
few knocks there and made sure he found something going
forward rather than losing the ball going backwards. And now
he's got it. Everyone can kind of move up, get
the throwing in and settle themself down.

Speaker 28 (01:00:24):
But Bran Schmitzer talked about de la Vega's technical ability.
Hard to knock off the ball load, sense of cavity,
is able to move the ball quickly in tight areas.
The Sound is really now hoping that de la Vega
can be resilient in these final months of the season
and carry this team. Forty, of course, have had sparks

(01:00:47):
throughout the years when the Sounders have made an MLS run,
Beldez coming to mind in twenty sixteen.

Speaker 13 (01:00:53):
It struggled in the early part of the.

Speaker 28 (01:00:56):
Twenty sixteen season, all of a sudden came alive towards
the end, got some valuable goals, some valuable assists and
contributions to the Sounders offense.

Speaker 13 (01:01:05):
And it was that.

Speaker 28 (01:01:06):
Year, of course, Brian Schmetz's first year as he took
over in late summer, they went on a run and
then one in Toronto, a famous penalty shootout and that
famous saved by Stephan Fry, who is out tonight percussion
protocol is working through that ten stitches in his head.
It was a collision the first minutes of the game
last week inadverting. As Brian Schmetzer confirmed this week, there's

(01:01:31):
certainly no slouch coming in for him and Andrew Thomas, no.

Speaker 4 (01:01:34):
Slouch at all. I were happy that that's Stephen Fry's
back up and running around and hopefully back soon as
they had said. But he's such a pivotable point, not
just the history of Seattle but this team as well
in his leadership. So Andrew Thomas coming in making sure
he's making all the saves and that leadership kind of
falling on Christian Rodin.

Speaker 28 (01:01:51):
Now well, this copyrighted audio cast of Major League Soccer
may not be retransmitted, to reproduce or rebroadcast without the
express written consent of Major League Soccer. Twenty one minutes
gone here, nil nil between the crew and the Sounders.

Speaker 13 (01:02:07):
Sports Radio nine to fifty am.

Speaker 28 (01:02:10):
What he one good result in the Washington area with
the Huskies winning this afternoon convincingly again two wins out
of two for the Huskies under new management, new coaching.

Speaker 13 (01:02:25):
Will gets flicked.

Speaker 28 (01:02:25):
Forward, demo comes across, just waits as it bounces Rossi's
able to pick up the loose ball top of the
box to Jecks and who's floating around.

Speaker 13 (01:02:32):
Ball goes to the outside to Austin. Will step over
towards his right foot, strikes the ball, slice it high
and wide. Sounders will take that all day long. Remains
nil nil.

Speaker 4 (01:02:40):
Killing Roe shots from outside the box with a quality
keeper like Andrew Thomas is going to be good for
the Seattle Sounders. You want you don't want them going
in behind, and he's a good play if they're sitting
a little too far back. From me and the Seattle
Sounders and top of the box. But you know we
get out with an easy shot out for a gold gick.
Get the guys out well.

Speaker 13 (01:02:58):
Sounders are defending well but offensively. I'm not doing too
much expected goals right now as you look down at
my screen zero but the Columbus crew of zero point one.
So little bondstorm of a start to this game. Of course,
as the stats where it is, but here come the
sound as can they find a way in between?

Speaker 28 (01:03:16):
Ball goes in between the back line almost finds Jordan
Morris from Albert Rossneck Romero and the goal settles it down,
rolls it out to this near sight to Herrera, who
in turn rolls it to Camacho advanced from his central
defensive position, finds Rossi and he'll certainly find As we
talk about players around the field, Wilfred Nancy has allows

(01:03:39):
his players to rotate.

Speaker 13 (01:03:40):
It's not systematic. He has a certain methodology of playing Callen,
but he does allow the freedom for his players to
move well.

Speaker 4 (01:03:47):
It's fluid because of the players that he has. If
you look at Diegio Rossi, he's not a number nine, right,
He's almost a ten or a winger he's gonna come
off that front line. But the guy the players are
understanding that if he drops back in two or one
or two are flying four forward to cover that space.
And they're very good about having that total football kind
of mentality.

Speaker 28 (01:04:05):
Well goes long picked up by russneck against Neckby, and
of course that man of neck Beach, a solid strong
what's his body between ball and play wins it.

Speaker 4 (01:04:14):
The quality he has on the ball is pretty incredible,
and trying to get the ball off of him or
get away from him when you do have the ball
is pretty impressive. He's the player that should have been
one of the best midfielders in the US in my opinion,
and just it didn't happen for some reason. But he's
shown his quality throughout the MS.

Speaker 13 (01:04:28):
He's Rossi top of the box, tries to wriggle clip
picked up by Christian Willdon right place, right time, has
always he tries to wriggle clear referees right there, gives nothing.
Well Don's asking for a foul referee just a couple
of yards away. I'll miss him in bright pink. Did
not give anything. Crew have it again and they start
to build Camacho on this near side.

Speaker 28 (01:04:47):
They're right inside the sound is half of the field
goes back Sound as eleven men behind the ball.

Speaker 13 (01:04:54):
This is gonna be the pattern of play through this game.

Speaker 28 (01:04:57):
Sound is gonna have to be patient and absorb the
pressure and then hit the team on the counter. And
Jordan Morris had a couple of chance, says one. He
got through a couple of ones just narrowly cut out.
But it's gonna have to get involved in the Sounders.
I want to retain possession. Three touches on the game
so far as the Sounders now win it and start
to build.

Speaker 4 (01:05:14):
And when you don't have much possession in this game,
especially as a forward all alone, you have to make
your touches count. And that's what Jordan's got to do
as he continues this game.

Speaker 28 (01:05:21):
Oh we know certain Harland for Man City can touch
the ball three times a game and then gets a
hat trick.

Speaker 13 (01:05:26):
So you don't need many if you're playing the number nine.
That's where you get paid for. Put the ball in
the back of the net.

Speaker 28 (01:05:30):
He's offs and fastide the left for the crew rolls
it down the line towards the end line comes in.

Speaker 13 (01:05:35):
Short miscleared by Yamark comes off as he puts his
head up looking up in the sky, goes over the
end line. It's gonna be a corner kick for the
crew and the Sounders are gonna have to hold strong.

Speaker 4 (01:05:48):
These are one of those moments that if you do
have a mistouch, do you have a mispass and it
goes out of balance, not the way you wanted to
For me, it's the time to really put my head
down and make sure I focus, because these are the
times you don't want to mess up again.

Speaker 13 (01:05:57):
Fourth corner for the crew. I'm up in the air.
This time it's the fast side of the left.

Speaker 28 (01:06:01):
First one from the left comes in outswinger headed clear
well by Yema who clears his lines. This time Well
offs and fast side the left to Chambeaus who comes
in knocks it out again. It's that man Yeama, good
powerful head and knocks the ball out, clips and again
by the crew.

Speaker 13 (01:06:18):
Up in the air, it goes by Jason not convincingly.

Speaker 28 (01:06:20):
Ball bounces around inside the eighteen asking for a handball
is Rossie strike from Jackson slices it why goal kick
for the Sounders here in the twenty sixth minute's the
Crew nil Sounders nil.

Speaker 4 (01:06:30):
Talk about getting that mistake back. Yemar two good headers outside.
But for me it's you get those headers and then
all of a sudden another ball's coming back in. You
get those header again, another ball's coming back in. Can
they find a way to retain this possession a little bit?

Speaker 28 (01:06:44):
Sounders have it given away cheaply by Red Baker whiteing
not what Brian schmidtz so wants, and then giving.

Speaker 13 (01:06:48):
Away cheaply by Nagby ball goes in behind.

Speaker 28 (01:06:50):
We've seen this before where the Sounders have taken advantage
of a turnover. This time they can't quite connect to
Jordan Morris, who is being a willing runner right now.
He's realizing that when the Sounders do win it, there
is a chance in between those central defenders with only
a three back syst and they like to push The
Sounds are looking for that ball over the top quickly.

Speaker 4 (01:07:08):
Keep running in behind. You know that Columbus is going
to push numbers forward. We're going to have the pace
and if you play a quality ball and it gets
to him, I think Jordan Morre is going to find it.

Speaker 13 (01:07:16):
Back of the net. Amore back to Andrew Thomas, looking
for options. Sounder is building in possession as Bryan Schmett's
lights from the back.

Speaker 28 (01:07:23):
We've seen a variety of play by the Sounders. Sometimes
they go along this season, sometimes a little short and
as Dela Vega just shrugs off pressure from Zawadski, the
outside of his foot almost gives it away but recovered
by Jackson Reagan giving away cheaply to Nagby, who steps
in well on Dela Vega. Didn't have much of a
chance to collect that ball to Dela Vega was a

(01:07:44):
little bit sloppy from Jackson Reagan. We saw that in
the first handful of weeks of the season where Jacks
Reagan wasn't quite on form, but.

Speaker 13 (01:07:51):
We certainly found his way in the last couple of
months call and he and Yema have been solid as
a rock and the Sounders have had a good defensive
record so far. We'll get your comments.

Speaker 28 (01:08:01):
At a minute, fast side the left is offsen spread
it ball from the scent to the far side of the
left little step over gets clipped in towards the pounty spot,
headed clear by Attensi or headed forward by Camacho who's
advanced to the top of the box from his defensive position.

Speaker 13 (01:08:15):
In that back three brought down well by Ruznek.

Speaker 28 (01:08:17):
What a touch out of the air, brings it down,
get shoved in the back. It's gonna be a foul
and a free kick for the Sounders and they'll take
a breath.

Speaker 13 (01:08:25):
Twenty eight minutes gone, Neil nil.

Speaker 4 (01:08:27):
Back to your point, Jackson, Reagan and Yamar have been
sole quality in the back, especially through that summer months
when they had a lot of games through the League's Cup.
And now you want to see it again versus these
quality opponents in the MLS. But for Jackson Reagan, if
he plays simple and gets his feet underneath him, I
think he's one of the best center backs in this league.
But if he continuously goes through and gets in that
quick sand of mistakes, that's where things go wrong.

Speaker 28 (01:08:49):
Good step by the back line, Rob's delaveagor the ball
and now they have it left corner of the box.
Matan Trossi, who's moving around along that attacking thro from
right to left this time, just sits on top of
the box looking for the ball. Offsen comes back and
the crew with Nagby got to build again. And we
saw the quality of Rosnak when he pulled that ball

(01:09:11):
out of the air. He created six chances for the
Sounders last week against Paul and that's the most of
any Sounders.

Speaker 13 (01:09:17):
Player in three years.

Speaker 28 (01:09:18):
So even though the Sounders didn't get the result they wanted,
Rosne was involved as the ball goes wide and over
the end line from a Offsen cross allows the Sounders
again to take another breath to be a goal kick well.

Sounders built out the back again, this time with Della Vega.
Has been pocket picked a couple of times in dangerous areas,
but continues to be confident of the ball.

Speaker 13 (01:09:59):
What's it about to game?

Speaker 28 (01:10:00):
We'll play it back to Andrew Thomas takes no chances
safety first launches it long watune for the sound as
it finds Zawotski, who it's clattered into, and that's.

Speaker 13 (01:10:12):
The first yellow card of the game on de la Vega.

Speaker 4 (01:10:16):
A little harsh in my opinion, first fout little both
of them lundon at the ball, but like referee is
gonna do what he wants to do and get that
yellow card.

Speaker 28 (01:10:24):
But you wouldn't mind it, right, Dela Vega is your
kind of artistic player in the attacking third of field.

Speaker 13 (01:10:28):
He's doing some defensive duty now and having a player
like that who's come in to create stuff in the
attacking third of the field, to have him come back
and make.

Speaker 28 (01:10:35):
It, you know, make the tackle like that. Yeah, little late.
Maybe it's more of an attacking players.

Speaker 4 (01:10:40):
Tackle it is. It's short minded, but it's the fact
that he's having the willingness to defend and willingness continue
to defend even when things aren't going right on the
attacking side. That's a quality player and that's what you
want from your young DP.

Speaker 28 (01:10:53):
Quickly played by the crew far side of the left
Offson comes into Matangi to clip it towards the backstick again.
This time it's Jackson picked up by Rossi inside the box.
Good defending by Yamar, just pokes it away with his toe.
It's going to be out for a throw in five
yards from this near corner flag as they the crew
attacked the goal to our right. Good incisive play from

(01:11:15):
the crew as they try to find this opening goal
here at the thirty minute mark remains nil nil. Rossi
has it back to Camacho, far advanced from his defensive
position as Sawadski, who signed a long term contract in February.

Speaker 13 (01:11:36):
Local boy being in the club for ten plus years.

Speaker 28 (01:11:39):
Of course, another local hero and Aden Morris moved on
to Middlesbrough just a couple of months ago, and he
comes Rossi tries to clip it, goes across the top
of the eighteen yard box to Asson, brings it into
his right foot and then rolls it back and square
to Nagby to Camacho, rolls out to this near sight
to Herrera, a challenge by Reed does a good job,
just holds his ground. A ten to your steps in

(01:12:00):
on Camacho who has to turn away from pressure.

Speaker 13 (01:12:04):
And go back as.

Speaker 28 (01:12:05):
Wilfred Nancy is standing just inches from the field as
he commands his troops. Ball goes in behind, well read
and headed up and away by Jackson, picked up by
Della vegge at little ball into Russneck just skipped away
from Russneck Field looks like it's playing a little slick.

Speaker 4 (01:12:21):
If they can just get that little bit of quality
and that first pass after they win the ball. I
think you find the Sounders with a lot more space
than they see it. They get it from the back.
The middle of the field is wide open. Obviously you've
sad it with Jordan Morris running in behind two three
times now.

Speaker 13 (01:12:36):
So Watskin knocks it down the line fast side the
left covered well by yamar As. Rossi comes across to
try and challenge, headed up in the air by Nagby,
able to pull down his original header with a little
cushion ball back to his back line, but Sounders pick
up the pieces right on the halfway line. Middle of
the park rolled down, commanding the middle of the field
alongside a Tensio mentioned eight players missing for the crew,

(01:13:01):
six through international duty, including Couccio Hernandez Farci with Algeria.

Speaker 28 (01:13:08):
And then the sounds are missing Ovid Vargas. Do you
twenty three national team? But here come The sound is
down the right hand side.

Speaker 13 (01:13:14):
We'll go square to Jordan Morris's chance left for White
looks across the system referee. The flag does not go up.
I don't believe what a chance for Jordan Morris inside
the eighteen yard books. That's a play it past Ramera
who came out. The goal was gaping, he was not
able to finish. It's gonna be a goal kick, remain

(01:13:34):
nil nil, But that's the chance of the game so far,
Kellen Rowe.

Speaker 4 (01:13:38):
What a quality run from Paul Rothrock and then the
ball to finish it off, and Jordan Morris just doesn't
get his feet right. He wants to go with his right,
his favorite right, and then finds it with his left
and just doesn't do it right. I think that's a
player who hasn't scored in a little while and he's
in his head when that ball comes to him. It's
almost too easy.

Speaker 28 (01:13:56):
Well, Jordan Morris, Christian roll Don Albert Rosnett, really three
main players out there on the field today. They've combined
against playoff teams.

Speaker 13 (01:14:05):
They've only scored.

Speaker 28 (01:14:05):
Four goals and three assists in those games and those
big games. So unfortunately for the Sounders, that was in
the story of the season so far, just executing at
the right times against the big teams. When you play
away from home, as you know Kellum better than anybody,
you have to execute in those chances.

Speaker 4 (01:14:23):
You're not gonna get many Hey, Jordan Morris is not
gonna get many touches on the ball, and the Sounders
are not going to get that many clear chances as
well throughout this game, especially away against this quality team,
these playoff teams. So can those big players step up
and be those quality players in the quality moments?

Speaker 28 (01:14:37):
Big time players step up in big time moments. Jordan
Morris was not able to do that. Here's Matan now
for the crew down the side the left hand side.
Arson comes inside, drops it off to Chambost. New French
player from seven eten to Jackson came in June as
well from Saint Louis, Minnesota, homegrown player, former Crossfire youth player,

(01:15:01):
Or goes back and the crew are just going to
build again.

Speaker 13 (01:15:27):
It's good pressed by the Sounders as they continue to
press down his near side. Well done by Albert just
blocks the clearance goes out for a throwing. Rothword just
picks it up, shrugged his shoulders. Seems pretty obvious to
everybody apart from him. But why not if we were
told us a youth player, he must have picked up
the ball and throw it in.

Speaker 4 (01:15:45):
There's always a chance, right, And there's a little bit
of gamemanship as well. Can I hold the ball? Can
I get in their heads just a little bit? That's
something that Paul rothrock brings, right, He brings that little
bit of an edge.

Speaker 2 (01:15:53):
Well.

Speaker 28 (01:15:54):
Going back to his cross just there for Jordan Morris
that was on the right hand side, but last week
as well he put a couple of crosses in with
his left foot from the left hand side against Portland.

Speaker 13 (01:16:02):
It's a similar area where the Sounds weren't able to
capitalize on that as Dela Vega with the outside his foot.
Can they be saved? Can't quite get there? Ken roth
Rocky was a little loose by Dela Vega.

Speaker 4 (01:16:13):
It's a good idea and you want to put a
ball rather than that. It's just like you said that
fields playing a little bit fast. Can these guys get
used to it and get that pass to be the
quality to the guy's feet to the right foot, especially
when it comes to the balls out wide when they're
going forward.

Speaker 28 (01:16:27):
Sounders sitting around about thirty six percent possession right now. Again,
we know Columbus over the course of the season they've
sounded about sixty percent, So this says right in the
line to watch their season stats of showing like to
be in possession. The Sounders, though, have absorbed that pressure
and then they have created challenges for crew going forward

(01:16:50):
a couple of times in behind on turnovers in the
middle of the park, and then just a few minutes ago,
Jordan Morris clear cut chance to put the sound is
that war Nil wasn't able to take advantage but his attention.

Speaker 13 (01:17:02):
Nice ball down the line, flip the outside his foot.
Here comes Roth on the left and side. This is
a great ball across the six yard box. Sounds weren't
able to get there. It was Morris and Della Vega
inside the eighteen yard box. Neither player could get to
that cross. And it's again quality from Paul Rothrock Keleen.

Speaker 4 (01:17:19):
Roree, the quality run and the quality ball on his
left foot this time across that back line just across
the sixth and the fact that Jordan Morris or even
Peters Lavega isn't just diving in there to find something.
They need to find a way. They're not going to
continue to get these many chances. Can they get on
the end of something.

Speaker 13 (01:17:36):
Crew come again.

Speaker 28 (01:17:37):
Nagby halfway line, just drives it from center to the
far side the left to Afton, who's got plenty of
time and space to turn and move forward, plays it
into the foot of Matan, rolls it into Jackson's able
to turn top of the box dangerous, and again it's
high and wide by Jackson.

Speaker 13 (01:17:52):
Sounders will take that all day long.

Speaker 28 (01:17:54):
Here in the thirty seventh minute, Sports Radio nine to
fifty am, his crew nil sounds nil.

Speaker 4 (01:17:59):
This is the way the game's gonna go. The Seattle
Sounders are very happy. You're getting shots from thirty yards out.
You're getting crosses in to guys who are five foot eight,
five foot ten against Jackson, Reagan and Yemar. This is
a type of game that Seattle's hoping for.

Speaker 28 (01:18:12):
In this first half, Sounders looking to make sure they
shut this half out. Can they nick a goal that'd
be ideal for Brian Schmidtz so' is it? Geit instaid
about eight minutes to go of regular time. We'll see
what the referee adds on. There's been no real delays
for the.

Speaker 13 (01:18:27):
Referee to add anything of significance. As Herraras drives forward
down his right hand side, no pressure from the sounders,
rolled on comes back to help, follows that runner inside
comes Rossi ball his foot, rolls it into Jackson step
by Yema, helped well by attention, rolls it back to
Andrew Thomas, who does the right thing. Launches it long
into Night's sky, picked up well by dela Vega, brilliant
pulled down by Delavega, tries to knock it around the corner.

(01:18:49):
Great play, turn out of pressure into Ruszack.

Speaker 28 (01:18:51):
It goes ball into the foot of rothrot down this
left hand side, top.

Speaker 13 (01:18:55):
Of the box. Overlapping run by Russdak on his left,
goes into his right curls are great safe by Romero,
good play by Rothrock, good play by the sounders, and
a good save by the crew.

Speaker 4 (01:19:05):
Once again Paul Rothrock making something happen. He's using his
legs to get forward. They're finding him the ball and
there he's not being sell he's not being unselfish, he's
not putting the ball in the box, good run from
albert A dragon defender and Paul Rothrot takes it himself.

Speaker 28 (01:19:19):
Sounders are shown they're not going to sit back and
just absorb pressI and do nothing going forward. They will
take the chances when they can. And it's been the
foot of poor Rothrock's cut or.

Speaker 13 (01:19:28):
The danger in the last fifteen minutes right.

Speaker 28 (01:19:30):
Hand side, left hand side from crosses, and this time
he was a drop of the shoulder came on his
right foot just outside the eighteen yard box. Try to
find the far corner with a curling effort. The good
save by the new goalkeeper Romero, who by all accounts
wouldn't have expected to play today. But two goalkeepers on
international duty bush out injured and here come the.

Speaker 13 (01:19:52):
Crew with Jackson plays it inside the box to Rossi.

Speaker 28 (01:19:55):
Is able to turn without any meaningful pressure from the
Sounders left corner, rolls it into Now the Sounders drop,
get men behind the ball, hold their line just outside
the six yard box. Drop of the shoulder by Matan
comes in short does to roll it into shambost.

Speaker 13 (01:20:13):
Down the left hand side.

Speaker 28 (01:20:14):
Good defending by Atensio goes over the end line. No
the corner kick for Crew remains nil.

Speaker 4 (01:20:19):
Nil, good play, good one two's outside the box from Columbus,
but not really anything dangerous. The Sounders are keeping everything
in front of them, and that's what you need with
these nice little players.

Speaker 13 (01:20:31):
Balling quickly to Afson, go square to nack Be twenty
five yards from goal left of center, rolls it into
her rare and not afraid to shoot. And again the
sound will take that high and wide.

Speaker 28 (01:20:42):
Fortieth minute here in the Lower dot Com Field in Columbus, Ohio,
the Sounders are on the road, tough place to play.

Speaker 13 (01:20:49):
The crew won two championships inside the last twelve months
here at Lower dot Comfield ML's Cup.

Speaker 28 (01:20:56):
In twenty twenty three, most recently the twenty twenty four
League's Cup. But it's the Sounders who have caused the
most problems in this first half. Brian Schmittzer should be
happy with the way his team's played. Here they come again,
picked up by Dela Vega thirty odds some goal, just
looking foot spot of space.

Speaker 13 (01:21:13):
To find the ball this tiw. He goes to Russnick
inside the eighteen yard box asking for the balls. Dela
Vega goes towards the end line. Good play by Rothrock
comes off a scrambling defender goes over the end line
and it's going to be a corner cake for the
sound as Kellen.

Speaker 4 (01:21:26):
We're talk about coming to life. The first twenty minutes
sounders were dropping back, just absorbing this pressure. And now
you see sounders really on top of Columbus. You've seen
it a few times now, Jordan Morris getting the ball. Here,
de la Vega showing his quality and once again Paul
Rothrock making his run creating space and then Albert Russknack
trying to get.

Speaker 5 (01:21:43):
Something on it.

Speaker 13 (01:21:45):
Sounds in four players in the box in that attack.
It's what Brian Schmittzer has said just a handful of
months ago, to us get four players in the box,
you'll have a chance to score. It's gonna be from
a set piece. Can they take advantage? Headed clear by
the crew as it came in from Russnick on the
far side the right picked up by Alex Rowl down
back to Rosneck just a few yards away from the
assistant referee.

Speaker 28 (01:22:03):
Ball goes into the foot of Christian back to Rosnick
trying to find a pocket of space to get the
ball into the box. Ball comes in this time why
Alex clips off the back of Matan finds Christian Waldon
bor goes in good scrambled clearance by the crew.

Speaker 13 (01:22:20):
The assistant referee flag goes up. It's gonna been offside
on the Sounders.

Speaker 28 (01:22:24):
But again the Sounders are getting chances inside the eighteen
yard box. This time's gonna be a free kick for
the men in black.

Speaker 4 (01:22:30):
Good little triangle there between aler Rusna, Christian Roldan and
Alex Wildan. They found a way to create space and
then a quality ball, just an untimed run but a
quality bar from Christian and it almost snuck behind that
Columbus defense.

Speaker 28 (01:22:42):
Yeah, good step by the crew. You can see on
that replay they stepped up well. Three Sounders players are offside,
one of them being Game, who's closest to the ball.
Romero for his first start for Crewe made a great
save so far. Because it remains nil, Nils to get
in the final minutes of this first half and they'll

(01:23:03):
leave us at halftime.

Speaker 13 (01:23:04):
Jackson Diego will be back to break it all down.
It's been in.

Speaker 28 (01:23:07):
A exciting first half considering the sound In fact, the
Sounders have not had great possession, but they've taken advantage
of the chances they've had in transition, and they've tested
the back line of the crew, tested the goalkeeper. Now
can they hold firm as the crew try to build again,
try to find a way into this game.

Speaker 13 (01:23:27):
As you mentioned, two goals per game in MLS play
this season, the Crew have They've been equally as strong
in the back line, less than one goal per game.
That leads MLS. Sounders have scored the second least number
of goals from open play in MLS. So Sounds, we

(01:23:47):
have to find a way to find put the ball
in the back of the net, defend well, come out here.
Hopefully with some kind of result, we'll push him up
the table.

Speaker 4 (01:23:55):
Brian s Best was going to be going into this
halftime pretty happy. I know he wanted fifty percent possession,
but with the quality chances that they've had and the
lack of chances that Columbus has put together, I think
he's gonna be happy with this first half off.

Speaker 13 (01:24:05):
Some of his right foot chips it into the fast take.

Speaker 28 (01:24:08):
Good little play by Herrara's done a couple of times
saving balls sliding in with his outside of his right foot.
Here comes de la Vega tries to clip it around,
asking him for a free kick, nothing given by the referee.
He's able to return the favor, goes down to the deck,
wins the ball cleanly cleared now by read down this
near side the Sounders left Rothrock challenges. There's Dela Vega again,
just tries to nudge off her error, isn't able to

(01:24:29):
win it and becomes away. But Discount Tire get thirty
percent short to average weight time when you buy a
book online at discount Tire dot com. Forty fourth minute
here in Columbus, nil nil between the crew and the Sounders.

Speaker 13 (01:24:43):
So far, so good for the men in green.

Speaker 4 (01:24:45):
It's been a good performance. I mean they're going to
close this half out. These last few minutes need to
be professional. They need to be able to lock it down.
The last thing you want is for Columbus to go
in after scoring.

Speaker 7 (01:24:56):
A goal lead.

Speaker 28 (01:24:56):
Here's her era this right hand side, this near side,
the right eighteen yards from the endline. Just waits sound
as the patient in there defending Dela Vega just steps forward.

Speaker 13 (01:25:05):
He's shifted now on his left hand side.

Speaker 28 (01:25:09):
A good ouncing so far as Dela Vega's first forty
five minutes have been solid. Continues to add minutes to
his to his bank because the ball goes out the top.
Here comes Morris. Can he find it?

Speaker 13 (01:25:20):
Ref goalkeeper comes out classes into Jordan Morris. Players waiting.
What's the referee going to do? Is calling a foul
on the goalkeeper. We'll see what he does here, because
it is a foul for the Sounders. Jordan Morris holding
his head, he's on the deck. The goalkeeper came flying out,
clattering into both his defender and Jordan Morris. It's going

(01:25:42):
to be a foul for the Sounds just outside the
eighteen yard box. Let's see what the referee does now.

Speaker 4 (01:25:47):
Kelen Rowe, you know this one's a tough one for me.
It's a weird play. I think the young Romero is
just thinking, I gotta stop this play. Jordan Morris is
faster than most of us here, but I'm not sure
if you give this a yellow card. If you give
that as that's kluts. This might go in the Sounders
favor here. First off, hope those two players are all

(01:26:09):
three of those players are okay? Jordan really getting clattered
there in the face.

Speaker 13 (01:26:14):
It was a forearm to the face on Jordan Morris.

Speaker 28 (01:26:16):
Then when Rameira came down he smashed his head off
the deck, suffering what could be a type of concussion
away he came down and I think it's Camacho maybe
was the player in the back who got banged into
as well. Jordan Mourice still on the deck getting it
taken care of by the Sounders medical staff, as is

(01:26:37):
Rameira from the crew staff. But Ceel Sounders FC Rave
Green Run, presented by Provident Swedish, is back. Join Brad
Evans and the Sounders squad in September eighth for a
family friendly five k or sure to Kids race at
the Provident Swedish Performance Center and Clubhouse in Renton.

Speaker 13 (01:26:55):
Everyone who registers gets a free race t shirt and
a Rave Green scarf. Enjoy giveaway, food, trucks, music and
fun activities for all. Register or learn more at SFC
Ravegreenrun dot org. So we've seen nothing that I can
tell right now, Kel and the referees not made the decision.
He's probably going to wait for Romero to come onto

(01:27:16):
his feet. Both players, Morris.

Speaker 28 (01:27:19):
And Romero still getting taken care of, still sitting on
the grass. Morris is going to get pulled up and
hear Brian schmetz A shouting in it's taking a good
look at this because it was almost like a Harold
Schumacher aka whom as a red cards.

Speaker 4 (01:27:37):
Yeah, and I think that's the right call. A goalkeeper
off his line, forearmed to the forward's face and you
would call that almost a dog. So in the sense
that is a last defender because Jordan gets that touch
on the ball. So it's a dangerous play, especially from
a goalkeeper on a forward.

Speaker 13 (01:27:52):
Well. Well, for the Columbus crew, three of their first
top three goalkeepers are out two on international duty. Bush
is injured. Romero in from LAFC in the middle of August,
stood to his feet, was probably expecting the worst. It's
probably the.

Speaker 28 (01:28:09):
Reason why he stayed down so long, and once he
made his way up on his feet, the referee had
no hesitation gave him the red card. The crew are
down to a man, and for the Sounders they keep
holding their breath as we all do, to make sure
Jordan Morris is okay, that he's back on his feet.
The crew are circling the referee asking questions.

Speaker 13 (01:28:32):
But we'll see what happens here. So it's going to
be the fifth goalkeeper.

Speaker 28 (01:28:36):
In line for the crew. He's going to come on.
It's going to be pressed serious. There's going to be
the player. I believe he's going to come on the field.

Speaker 4 (01:28:48):
I see Columbus arguing it's a hard one. I know
you don't want to see it, but it's fairly clear
from us sitting here watching the replay that that should
have been a red card.

Speaker 28 (01:28:57):
Well, certainly he's going to add on minutes towards the
end of the first off he hadn't nothing as we
approach a forty five minute mark, and now we'll see
what the referee is going to add on red card
for the crew. Sounders have had chances this first half,
crew missing eight players, So for the Sounders this is
as good as you could hope for.

Speaker 13 (01:29:14):
Right now it.

Speaker 4 (01:29:15):
Is, and I think they need to again go into
this half regroup a healthy They can get a goal
off of this set piece, but regroup, make sure you
go out knowing that you're now a man up against
a team who loves their possession. That counter attack that
they've had and already had quality with can be even
even more dangerous.

Speaker 28 (01:29:30):
We'll see what Wilfred Nancy does now is going to
have to pull off one of his outfield players to
get a goalkeeper on the field and he's going to
figure this one out.

Speaker 13 (01:29:37):
And for Brian Schmetz, you know what's his message to
his team now, he's obviously organizing himself as well. Is
it same old? Obviously the Columbus Crew going to be
their backs against the wall. I remember, I think it
was twenty eighteen when the crew came in to lumen Field.
I believe when Greg Burholtz was still the coach of
the crew. They got a red card in the first
fifteen minutes, were able to hold on to a nil

(01:29:59):
nil tire. I believe, if memory serves, that was a
pretty incredible coaching, moving coaching game from Greg Burholtze.

Speaker 4 (01:30:08):
And you see the same right now with Nancy. He's
already got his players over there talking tactics, making sure
that there's not going to be too many holes, and
it looks like a field player is going to go
in goal.

Speaker 13 (01:30:18):
There you go. We thought it might be somebody off
the bench.

Speaker 4 (01:30:20):
But maybe just to finish the half.

Speaker 13 (01:30:21):
There you go. No options for Wilfred Nancy.

Speaker 4 (01:30:26):
Well, now you're thinking that that that free kick about
twenty twenty five yards out is Albert Rusnak, who's core
is on normal goalkeepers, first team goalkeepers is kind of
you know, looking his chops a little bit here.

Speaker 28 (01:30:37):
I think it's a certain Seawan Zawatsky who's going to
go in the goal. We've seen this Alex Schroldan, he
has passed, made a couple of blinding saves off memory serves, I.

Speaker 4 (01:30:46):
Mean, got the shutout from it and shutout. He was
the hero of the night.

Speaker 13 (01:30:51):
We'll see what. Oh that was just in the final
minutes of that game. Now Watson's gonna have to play
forty five minutes.

Speaker 4 (01:30:58):
I was that game, oh man. Now my guess is
that they're going to do this through the end of
the half and to make decisions then because there's not
much time going on here. I don't know how much
they're gonna add, but it's it's a weird one for me,
and obviously Nancy knows what he's doing. And we'll see
what the rest of the half.

Speaker 28 (01:31:15):
Bese so Zawatsky in goal, one of the three central defenders.
No moves being made by Wilfred Nancy Roight. Now he's
gonna have to face this free kick with the fifty
minute mark, and for the sounds, you have to think
hit the target.

Speaker 5 (01:31:33):
Hit the target.

Speaker 4 (01:31:35):
That's that's the name of the game right now. And
when it comes to a guy like Albert Rusnak, who's,
like I said, scored some very good free kick goals,
he's his eyes are very big at the moment, so
focus down, hit the target.

Speaker 13 (01:31:46):
Five goal, twelve assists on his year so far is
Albert Ruznek can he test. Zowatsky, who is pulled on
a red shirt, is in the back of the net.
Referee's whistle goes.

Speaker 28 (01:32:00):
Rosnik takes a breath, three steps away, with his right
foot smashes the.

Speaker 4 (01:32:05):
End in the back and then he goes.

Speaker 13 (01:32:07):
Sounder score off a free kick from Albert Rosnik finds
the bottom corner. Zowotsky goes into the goal and the
first thing he does it is pulled the ball out
of the back.

Speaker 22 (01:32:20):
Of the net.

Speaker 4 (01:32:21):
The Sounders lead one nil, put it on frame. And
that's exactly what Albert Rusnak did. He created something out
enough that I don't know if it was the wall
that kind of separated, we'll see it here in a second,
but what a quality finish.

Speaker 28 (01:32:35):
Well, Albert Rosnick's done it this year. The Sounders have
done it this year.

Speaker 13 (01:32:39):
Five goals from free kicks before this game, that would
be the sixth.

Speaker 4 (01:32:46):
I think that's just the not understanding a field player
going in goal because he was just a little bit
too far towards that wall and he wasn't trusting it.
What a good finish from Albert Rusnak or.

Speaker 28 (01:32:56):
The fifty almost a fifty second minute mark here seven
minutes over the allotted forty five minutes.

Speaker 13 (01:33:01):
We'll see what the referee continues to add on.

Speaker 28 (01:33:03):
It was a long long delay as Morris and Romero
got treatment. Romera got the red card from the ensuing
free kick. Upsteps ra Albert Rozneck and you couldn't have
written a better script for the Sounders upper man, upper goal.
Can they hold out to this to halftime, then the
Sounders will be able to reorganize.

Speaker 13 (01:33:24):
Themselves as needed. But here come the crew down their
left hand side, overlapping run towards the end line.

Speaker 28 (01:33:30):
Across it comes Jackson Riggan sticks out a big right foot,
clears his line. It's going to be a throw in
on the far side the crew left. Sounders need to
hold strong.

Speaker 4 (01:33:39):
Hold strong, and don't create too many gaps. It might
be a man up. You can't run out of position
just to go pressing the ball, and.

Speaker 13 (01:33:45):
We'll see what the Crew do and how they reorganize themselves. Herrera.
This defensive player looks.

Speaker 28 (01:33:50):
Like he's dropped back and there's a referees whistle. The
Sounders were able to execute and take advantage of a
red card, an outfield player going in goal, and the
sound is hearing Columbus go into the halftime break a
goal up. Kelln Rowe your final thoughts.

Speaker 4 (01:34:11):
A slow start for the Sounders, but then a quality
end to this game it has had this half. Brian
Sptch is going to be very happy with his players there.
You have a little bit less of quality going forward,
but man, what a good run from Albert Rusnak, from
Jordan Morris, from Paul Rothrock, who's been my spark of
this first half. And you go in. One hero up
at half and a man up. It's gonna be quality

(01:34:31):
and I can't wait to see where the second half brings.

Speaker 13 (01:34:33):
We'll take a short break, Jackson Pelt Diego Arioha, We'll
be back to break it all down halftime here at
low dot Com Field in Columbus, Ohio. It's the Columbus
Crew nil. The sound is one.

Now time for the Sounders FC halftime show.

Speaker 3 (01:37:09):
Well, well, well, what do we have here in Columbus, Ohio?

Speaker 2 (01:37:14):
Tonight your Seattle Sounders leading one nothing, and we must
talk a lot about what we just saw over the
last ten minutes or so. So right at the mark
of added time, a ball over the top to Jordan Morris. Uh,
the loane keeper. I'm going to emphasize this a couple
times right now, Columbus's loane keeper on the roster tonight,

(01:37:38):
Romero came out of his goal, came about twenty yard
two yards outside of the box. His forearm collided with
Jordan Morris's head. Serious foul play was called. That is
a red card to Columbus's keeper. Remember how I just
mentioned the word loan. That's right, Columbus does not have
a backup keeper.

Speaker 4 (01:37:58):
On their roster.

Speaker 2 (01:37:59):
They have one guy on international duty with the United States.
They have one guy injured. Romero was their third and
he just got the red card.

Speaker 4 (01:38:06):
They do not have a fourth.

Speaker 2 (01:38:09):
Thus, Sean Zawatski, a midfielder, has to go into goal
for Columbus, and then in the ensuing free kick after
the red card, Albert Rusnak hits.

Speaker 3 (01:38:20):
It's one nothing, Seattle.

Speaker 2 (01:38:22):
And not only is Columbus down a man for the
second half, they are playing a midfielder in goal. They
could switch to a center back, you never know, but
at right this moment, right now, they do not have
a fourth keeper available. They will not have a true
keeper in goal for the second half. Diego, my, oh my,

(01:38:43):
what a scenario we have here tonight.

Speaker 6 (01:38:45):
Yeah, it's crazy to have what happened right How the
game started the first twenty minutes, it looked like, okay,
Columbus ball. Had they have the possession. It was, I
would say, in a way, like a boring game, because
you know, they were not really creating any any chances.
But they had the ball and sounders like slowly but
surely started to create chances. If you think, if you

(01:39:06):
see the highlights, Seattle Sounders were definitely the team that
generated the most on top. And we saw right before
that that play that you mentioned. We saw Paul Rothrock,
we saw one big chance from Jordan Morris that he missed.
But then the Sounders it started to get that confidence
on top and they have.

Speaker 5 (01:39:25):
Those through balls to look for Jordan Morris.

Speaker 6 (01:39:27):
But now we have this situation of having, you know,
a Romeo out with a redcord, no goal, real goalkeeper
for the next forty five minutes. The question is how
is that's gonna play out for the Sounders, right, because
now they have already advantage russures on pressures are but
also for Columbus, right, you have real I mean a

(01:39:48):
real goalkeeper, right, you have this midfielder who's gonna Okay,
they're already scoring the first play right.

Speaker 2 (01:39:55):
Right for the very first play, it's like just put
it on target and starting the way he wanted. So, okay,
we need to take a break and talk about this
more because it's just it's such an incredible you know,
you may never see this scenario happen again in your life.

Speaker 4 (01:42:55):
If you're just joining us.

Speaker 2 (01:42:57):
Columbus has a midfielder in goal, and they will have
an outfield player in goal for the second half. They're
starting keeper Romero got a red card because of injuries
and international they do not have another keeper on their
roster tonight. It will be an outfield player in goal
for the Sounders and diego. As we talked about some
keys to the second half, I really quickly before that,

(01:43:19):
I'll mention that this copyrighted audio cast of Major League
Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the
express written consent of Major League Soccer. So listen, you're
gonna have an outfield player in goal. His first chance,
he already positioned himself poorly and gave up the free
kick goal to Albert rus Neck. I don't know if
you're Brian Schmitzer, uh not that I am trying to

(01:43:39):
guess what he's saying. But my unofficial guess of what
he's saying is shoot from everywhere, boys, Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 6 (01:43:46):
I mean that needs to be the message, right, And
you have really good, you know players that they can
shoot from outside of the box. We have russ Neck, right,
who know only just scored, but he has really good,
good feet. We have Peder le Leave as well. Even
Paul has a good you know, a good ride.

Speaker 2 (01:44:02):
That's what's the furthest yardage out you would you would
let a guy shoot, I mean right now in this scenario,
is it twenty five?

Speaker 5 (01:44:09):
Is at thirty thirty? Why not?

Speaker 22 (01:44:11):
Right?

Speaker 6 (01:44:12):
Like you saw you know his position right, and how
you know he doesn't look confident and after this goal
is going to be even less coming, right, So I think.

Speaker 5 (01:44:21):
It's going to be that lap and I have to
say that the if you just like talk.

Speaker 6 (01:44:28):
About again the play that rometto for the red card,
to me is like childish, right, like you see that
that's was that.

Speaker 5 (01:44:35):
He wants so easy to try to stop Jordan Morris,
but that.

Speaker 6 (01:44:39):
That's not a way like an experience goalkeeper will go
out to look for the ball at least you know,
it was evident that was like a foul, right, Like
he's you know, hands forward. So I mean to me
that child those mistakes that you don't see them often
with the experienced goalkeeper, and especially with a team like
we were just talking and bragging about Columbus before the game.

Speaker 5 (01:44:57):
How Wilfrid Nancy right, you.

Speaker 3 (01:45:00):
Really have no idea who putting goal?

Speaker 5 (01:45:02):
Yes, And I was like, hey, who should I put?

Speaker 6 (01:45:04):
So I think it's a really special unique position for
Seattle Sounders. And we were seeing already you know, three
points in the bag. But why not to score more goals?

Speaker 31 (01:45:12):
Right?

Speaker 5 (01:45:13):
You have an next player on the field and knowing
that the goalkeeper is.

Speaker 2 (01:45:17):
Not you know, and they're not a transition team either.
They're a possession team and possession right function. So right
now the Sounders are in a great spot. But pressures
on Gott to capitalize. They're uppaman, They're facing a midfielder
or somebody else in goal. It's surely not a true goalkeeper.
This is gonna be a whild second half. Hey, if

new information coming out on a regular basis, being able
to feed that information to the audio format makes being

(01:46:38):
nimble and pivoting easy.

You're listening to the home of Sounders FC, Seattle's sports

Speaker 13 (01:48:31):
Welcome back Sounders fans to Low dot Com Field in Columbus, Ohio.
It's been an eventful first half. It's probably summarized quite
well by the team Jackson and Diego, But for the
Sounders they went into locker room one goal up. It
was a goal by Rosnak offer free kick and the
ensuing free kick given by the referee after Romero, the

(01:48:53):
goalkeeper for the Columbus Crew cane clattering into Jordan Morris. Down,
Morris went out side the box.

Speaker 28 (01:49:01):
Both players took some time to get back up on
their feet, and once Romero, who'd just come in this
month from Lafcor actually last month from LAFC got to
his feet, the referee was waiting for him, gave him
a red card, and then from that ensuing free kick,
Albert Rossneck scored.

Speaker 13 (01:49:18):
Now the caveat is the Crew didn't have a goalkeeper
on the bench.

Speaker 28 (01:49:22):
Who thought one of the young kids might go in
to maintain some of the experience on the field, But
it was Sowatski, the ten year veteran, the young player's
been through all the ranks of the crew, went to
the sidelines, put on his goalkeeper's shirt and as Rosnak
gets us going here for the second half, the Sounders
lead one goal to nil.

Speaker 13 (01:49:40):
So so what's he winning goal? First thing he did
was picked the ball out the back of the net.
Brilliant played by Rosnek, who just hit the target scored
the goal. Now the Sounds are leading one nil, and
here comes de la Vega on the right hand side,
just a few yards from the end.

Speaker 28 (01:49:51):
Line goes back to rolled On and we'll see how
the Sounders reorganize themselves.

Speaker 13 (01:49:56):
Right now.

Speaker 4 (01:49:57):
That caveat is something that we've never seen real in
our times playing or our times watching the game. There's
no second goalkeeper on this lineup, and so there's a
field player in goal the rest of the time. You
can already see the confidence through the Seattle Sounders playing
the ball through here. They're gonna be looking to take
shots from the distance. They're gonna be looking to find
a way to just disrupt that back line so they
can get something on frame, because if it's on frame,

(01:50:20):
if you not have a normal field player in there,
it's a lot easier.

Speaker 3 (01:50:22):
To score a goal.

Speaker 28 (01:50:24):
Sounders now know their job keep a clean sheet. They
get three points. Sounders in their anniversary kit, green shirts,
blue shorts, white socks, attacking the goal to our right.
And then Columbus crew down a man, down a goal,
all black, black shirts, shorts and socks.

Speaker 13 (01:50:38):
They're attacking the goal to our left.

Speaker 28 (01:50:41):
Seema plays it all the way out to Rothrock, who
is just gonna come inside roll its square back across to.

Speaker 13 (01:50:48):
This near side the right to Yama. It's go roll
it out. We'll get you substitution for the crew they've
made on their right hand side. We'll get to that
in a second.

Speaker 28 (01:50:57):
Then we'll get to the lineups as things get settler on.
But higgems Matan left hand side is arsome. Little step
over towards his right foot comes back to Matan good
step by a tenier.

Speaker 13 (01:51:08):
Referee gives a free kick that's thirty.

Speaker 28 (01:51:12):
Yards in the left Channel's chance for the crew to
put the ball in the box, and that's calling Rowe.
What you don't want is give away sloppy fouls, especially
being a man up, a man a goal up, give
the chance for the crew to put the ball in
the box.

Speaker 4 (01:51:25):
Lucky for them, the Columbus crew did not put the
ball in the box. They're gonna play short. But that's
not what you want. Like you said, don't give them
a chance to get a set piece, to get something
in the box, to find their way back into this game.
Stay on the front foot. It was ab a little
bit of pressure and then catch them again on the
counter and really put this game to bed.

Speaker 28 (01:51:44):
It's like a ziel Jackson is gonna have made way
at halftime.

Speaker 13 (01:51:48):
It's gonna be Dwan Jones who's gonna come on the field,
big number twelve on the right hand side. Horrea is
going to drop into the three.

Speaker 28 (01:51:56):
It's just gonna be a Rossi and Shambos who's going
to play up front. We'll see Chambo's likely drop into
more defensive posture.

Speaker 4 (01:52:06):
Read Bigger Wires is gonna have to be wary of
Dwan Jones. He's a quality player and when I played
with him, I always thought him as a midfielder playing
outside back. He's good, he's fast paced, he's good on
the ball and you can find that final pass and
it's a read. Bigger Witers got to have a good
game about him in the second half.

Speaker 28 (01:52:23):
Is read Bigger Whites in left hand side. Quietly effective
on that left hand side, little shaking the first ten
minutes or so, but really settle into the game. He
needs to have a good performances left hand side in
this second half. There's gonna be some athleticism in Jones
to deal with as the Sounders build with Jackson Regan,
can they split the lines?

Speaker 13 (01:52:42):
They do with that pass and then it tends to
out to the left hand side. Here comes Rothor towards
the end line, closed down Behra good ball in foot
away ball out from the cruise back client.

Speaker 28 (01:52:51):
It's gonna be a thrown for the Sounders eight yards
or so from the corner. Flag thrown in quickly by
Paul Rothworck. Can heart they come again, upper man upper goal.
Sounder is looking to come off the back of two
tough one nil losses to l EFC in League's Cup
and to the arch rivals of Portland Timbers. Right now,

(01:53:12):
so far, so good for the sound as they lead
one nil. Here the back of a Rosnack free kick.

Speaker 13 (01:53:18):
It comes Atensio, driving forward, strikes the ball just wide.

Speaker 4 (01:53:23):
Those are right ideas. Look josh Atenzios, Yeah, he's about
thirty yards away. But like we said before, there's not
a real goalkeeper in there, it's a field player. Can
you get the ball? The only criticism I have here
is good turn. Can you put that ball on frame?
Don't miss over wide, don't miss over. You gotta put
the ball on frame and make sure that Jordan Morris,
Abbert Rusnak, Paul Rothbrock are following the play because those

(01:53:43):
spills are gonna happen.

Speaker 13 (01:53:45):
It's got to be. The message from Bryan Schmidtz and
his staff is you've got a outfield player in goal
in Sawatski who is in gold. Still didn't make any
changes at halftime, so the central defender is in goal,
clears his lines. Now from the free kick, Sounder step forward.
Can they win it? They do?

Speaker 28 (01:54:01):
They pick up loose ball with Atensio and then Christian
rolled on. There has been effective in the.

Speaker 13 (01:54:06):
Center of the park again, played there against the Timbers
just last week. Sounders' next game is a week from
tomorrow Sunday afternoon game against their one of their arrivals
over the years in Sporting Kansas City. It comes read
Baker White and just cuts it back to Rothrock far
side the left. Sounders have a chance to try and

(01:54:27):
overturn a little bit of a downturn in their fortunes
of the last couple of weeks.

Speaker 28 (01:54:33):
But this would be another big, big win. Kell and
Rowe to come in here. MLS Champs, League's Cup Champs.
Say what you want about the way that the game's
transpiring so far, it's still a win against the top
quality team.

Speaker 4 (01:54:45):
It's that still a win. It's still the big three
points if they can continue this game, and that's the
thing they need going to pushing that these last few
games here, and they're gonna go against a lot of
Western Conference team that they're gonna have to get points
on if they can steal a few here in Columbus
against a very quality team that's gonna a good push
going for it.

Speaker 28 (01:55:01):
Let's get the lineup for Brian Schmitz, who in the
fifty first minute remains sound as one crew nil. Andrew
Thomason goal rolled down, Yemar Reagan read Baker Whiting a
ten year rolled on in the middle, Rothrock, Rosneck, Dela
Vega and then Morris up front. Arfston has it comes
back to Matan turns out a pressure.

Speaker 13 (01:55:20):
We'll get the Cruise lineup in just a minute. As
they build on this near side, the left of Arson
overlapping run is made, but he goes back to Camacho.

Speaker 28 (01:55:31):
So for Wilfred Nancy, he's probably been in a similar
not been in a similar situation before. As Sawaska coming out,
I was playing as a sweeper keeper aka Manuel Neuer
way out of his goal.

Speaker 13 (01:55:42):
One Dore turnover. We've seen a couple of turnovers.

Speaker 28 (01:55:44):
Kellen in the first half when the goalkeepers forty yards
out of his goal. If you have a certain rail
ridias in the field, he is going to take not
a split second to take a look and knock it
over the top. And here is Sawaski, as I said,
forty yards out of his goal, building out the back.

Speaker 4 (01:55:59):
There's a chance here that, like you said, if the
Sounders can nick something and find that first pass, he's
got a long run back to that goal and makes
her make a save. And so I think you're gonna
see the next goal from the Sounders. If it happens,
it's going to be one of those cheap one where
the guy gives the ball away and there's no one
in goal.

Speaker 28 (01:56:15):
Let's get the line up for cruz Zawadski as we mentioned,
went in the goal after the red card from Romero, Camacho,
Schaberco and Herrera in the back, Matan nagbi Arsen and
Jones in the midfield. Then Rossie and Chambost the attacking
players turn over from the crew. Sound has come quickly
switch a player by Yamo all the way to.

Speaker 13 (01:56:36):
The far side the left.

Speaker 28 (01:56:37):
Good ball collected by Rothrock Morrison's support. It's good to
see Maris back up on his feet out in the
second half after being on the ground for a good
handful of minutes being attended to by the staff. No,
no head injury, Thank goodness. We know what branch Metzer
thinks of concussion protocols. Takes it very seriously.

Speaker 4 (01:56:57):
Jordan's a tough player and he's going to get back
up as he can. But you know that was as
a hard hit, so it's good to see him back
on the field. But for me it's it's good to
see a Paul Rothrock continuing that good star from the
first half. He's he's on the front foot once again
in the second half.

Speaker 13 (01:57:11):
Hey, Jordan Mourris just shepherd it off the ball by Herrera,
goes over the end line, goes to be a goal kick.

Speaker 28 (01:57:16):
Here in the fifty third minute, Sports Radio nine Am
Columbus nil Sounders won and this score update is presented
by provident Swedish.

Speaker 13 (01:57:28):
Columbus build Wilfred Nancy's going to have a lot of
a coaching job on his hands.

Speaker 28 (01:57:32):
We mentioned Greg Burholz having come into Luminfield in twenty eighteen,
got a red card in the first fifteen minutes, was
able to come away with a point. Didn't concede On
that day, it felt like the crew were even up
the way that they played and the way they were organized.
But here come the Sounders and Christian rolled on. Swatsky
just scrambles back to his goal stands in his eighteen

(01:57:53):
yard box with rolled On, continues to have the ball,
tries to find the ball, squares bundled over.

Speaker 13 (01:57:58):
Ask him for a free kick.

Speaker 28 (01:57:59):
Nothing given by the red free It comes Crewe with
Chambos driving forward, goes left to Jones, tries to find
a ross.

Speaker 13 (01:58:07):
He was dashing through the middle of the park. Wasn't
able to connect. Sounders have it.

Speaker 4 (01:58:11):
Now we talk about Columbus giving away those cheap turnovers.
The Sounders have to make sure that they're careful about
that as well. Don't lag on the ball a little bit.
Don't take your extra time because you think you're a
man up. This Columbus team is coming after you.

Speaker 13 (01:58:22):
Here comes to de Leveaga, talk to the box. So
his left foot just cuts away from pressure and a
chance to shoot. Didn't take the chance. From all of
twenty yards it was wide open for him to swing
his left foot.

Speaker 28 (01:58:31):
Yes, it says weak of foot, but there was a
chance for de la Vega decided to cut it, lost possession,
crew them away with it.

Speaker 4 (01:58:37):
Gotta make sure you're not trying to pass this ball
into the back of the net. Take the chance, take
the shot. Maybe you're gonna get a deflection and someone
else taps it in. Don't try and walk this ball
in because you're a man up and there's another there's
not a real goalkeeper in there. You have to make
sure that this is still a game. This is still
a soccer game. Take your chances as you have them.

Speaker 28 (01:58:55):
Well, we'll certainly see possession ticking up and Sawatski again
is where I was. Goal obviously directed by Wilfrid Nancy's
to be an outfield play of sorts.

Speaker 13 (01:59:05):
In possession ballminds.

Speaker 4 (01:59:08):
Me of hockey, right when they pull the goalie and
they've got that extra man on the field and there's
always that extra chance. But like I said, they're gonna
have a little bit more possession with their keeper out
and they have those numbers can Jordan moore as big
as times to go well for the Sounders.

Speaker 13 (01:59:21):
There are eight two and three when scoring first, six
oho two when leading at the half, So the stats
are in the Sounders favor and they're upper man as well,
so can they hold in now keep the clean sheet
be Andrew Thomas's second clean sheet in MLS go alongside
seven for Stephan Fry if they can hold it. And

(01:59:42):
the Sounders do have a good record defensively thirty two
goals against mentioned eight clean sheets, seven on Fry, one
on Thomas. And it's the opposition they're playing.

Speaker 28 (01:59:56):
Today is Crew who lead the way in MLS and
goals again against twenty four goals against fifty two goals scored.
So the Sounders have to be on their toes because
even down a man missing eight men as you mentioned,
six international duty, one from suspension, one from injury, there's
still a threat going forward. They've got a man in

(02:00:16):
Rossi who can score goals still on the field. But
here comes at ten to you on the Sounders down
the right hand side is de la Vega.

Speaker 13 (02:00:22):
Ten too, makes her run in the channel.

Speaker 28 (02:00:25):
Lvega puts us from the ball comes back. Sounders are
gonna build again.

Speaker 4 (02:00:29):
It's quality movement and it's good patience. I think from
these players it's no eyes have to go. I know
that there's a lot of big eyes and a lot
of arts going through here and they want to pat
those stats. But you have to be patient. This is
going to be a longer game than they think.

Speaker 13 (02:00:42):
Sounder is in possession attacking third of the field tends
to just sloppy in possession, gives it away.

Speaker 28 (02:00:48):
Sounders don't want that. When they have the balls. You
mentioned the first off eleven v eleven, they have to
keep the ball.

Speaker 13 (02:00:53):
Even more important when you're upper man, can you force
the Crew to chase?

Speaker 28 (02:00:58):
They've had some miles on their legs in the last
couple of months. With League's Cup run cc C run,
conquer CAV run and here comes Georgia Manungo. Della Vega
gets his move. You got ten seconds to get off
the field, Pedro, good job.

Speaker 13 (02:01:18):
He's on the left hand side. He's able to walk
ten yards off the field. Here comes Georgia Mnungo scored
his first signed his first team contract just a week
or so ago. Came on the field against LFC in
League Cup, came on the field against Portland. Now he's
the first up off the bench against the Crew and.

Speaker 28 (02:01:36):
It's probably a good move Kellen to allow a player
who is never to be gonna have a bit more
space now playing a man up, he's gonna have a
chance to take advantage.

Speaker 13 (02:01:43):
Of that and go one v one.

Speaker 4 (02:01:45):
I'm indifferent about this su because I would love to
see Georgie have a run and go one v one
and create something against this back line who's kind of
out out of source at the moment. But this is
also a game a man up to get a guy
like patro de la Vega comfortable with the team again.
He's gonna get some more actual game minutes and get
him comfortable going into this last stretch of the season.
So it surprises me that it not that much so

(02:02:07):
much the sub, but the timing of the sub. I
think you wanted to get patro de Leveger a little
bit more of a run.

Speaker 28 (02:02:12):
Yeah, you feel like he would be able to play
more advanced positions, not have to do the dog work
that he.

Speaker 13 (02:02:16):
Was doing in the first half. And he looked come
to it, looks strong in possession. Certainly the first fifty
minutes of this second half, the ball goes in behind,
here comes Georgie. Can he get involved? Cut out well
by the back line for the crew.

Speaker 4 (02:02:28):
But of course, right as right as we say that,
Georgie threatening that back line just as though he had
been told to do so.

Speaker 28 (02:02:36):
Fell on Rossi by the sound as quick free kit taken.
Jones on the far side physical presence redes a good
job getting his body between Borland. Play it built out
by the sound as Thomas Terregan sound has come. Jones
continues to hold his press high up the field, as
does Rossi and Matan.

Speaker 4 (02:02:54):
That's good strength from rebaker Whiting. It's not an easy one,
especially with a strong and athletic Dwan Jones.

Speaker 13 (02:03:01):
Well giving away cheaply. Sounds pick it up, but then
they have to pick up the pieces. With Christian roll
Dan captain for the night Sounds attacking the goal to
our right in their anniversary kit today, here comes George
you little step over gives the ball up. Do that
good step by Alex Roldan finds nagby middle of the part,
just shields the ball, retains possession. Crew have it inside

(02:03:21):
their half of the field. Sounds just gonna hold their
line of confrontation on the halfway line.

Speaker 28 (02:03:28):
As Zawatski and his red shirt steps up as almost
a sweeper keeper. It's an interesting tactic. Certainly, It's obviously
something he was directed to do at halftime by Wilfred
Nancy and his staff and in possession it allows him
to fan out still in play, but of course they
give the ball away that can certainly be punished.

Speaker 4 (02:03:48):
Well, there's an attacking aspect of it that you still have,
almost like a ten v ten is just what you
want in this attacking half. But like you said, if
you do turn the ball over and he's he's going
to be doing some doggies tonight because they turn it
over a few.

Speaker 13 (02:04:01):
Times, it comes more striding forward, got time and space.
Top of the box, goes left to Rothrock, across the
six Jordan Morris, back of the net. Perfect goal for
the Sounders. Wonderful ball by Rothrock. This time Morris can execute.
Ball goes in the back of the net. The Sounders
loose lead two goals to nil.

Speaker 4 (02:04:22):
And it's that man, Paul Rothrock giving it to Jordan
Morris and really just you saw Jordan laying there just
knowing it. Finally it's back in the back of the
net and he's gonna find more and more chances and
can continue to finish like that.

Speaker 13 (02:04:34):
Brilliant by Jordan Morris, just got it, drove forward, escaped.
The retreating midfield was able to create some separation in
space to look at the replay right. He had just
had the time and space, took advantage of it, strode
forward that it was support by Rothrock on the left
hand side. Another quality delivery between the goalkeeper and the
back line and in it goes Sounders double their lead.

(02:04:58):
And now he'd expect and the manner whish the Sounds
are playing in this second half, they're playing on the
front foot.

Speaker 2 (02:05:04):
They're up.

Speaker 13 (02:05:04):
A man got a chance for a big three points here,
a goal fitting as a Jordan Morris player.

Speaker 4 (02:05:10):
He gets the ball at half field, they delve the
past half field and has a bunch of space to run.
That's what Jordan is good. Can he find a pass
and it was a quick, smart decision by Paul Rothrock,
take one touch, put it in behind where no one
else can touch it besides these speeding forward Jordan Morris.

Speaker 13 (02:05:24):
It's slight delay on the kick reff which I want
to make sure two nil it is.

Speaker 28 (02:05:30):
Crew now have some decisions to make off the bench
that they get to push it. I'm trying to get
back into this game or are they going to start
to pull off some of the important players.

Speaker 13 (02:05:40):
Two nil down. One man down. Sounders now can really
dictate possession.

Speaker 4 (02:05:47):
There's a good maturity there from Georgie to not push
that ball there and go forward and maybe lose it.
He kept possession and now the Sounders get a tense
to breathe again.

Speaker 28 (02:05:55):
Well, the possession stants in the first half were such
that Theoders were in the mid thirties. Now they're at
the sixty percent possession mark in this second half.

Speaker 13 (02:06:05):
So taking full.

Speaker 28 (02:06:07):
Advantage of being a man up, just like Smets are
planned it just to Smet's planned it the average, we're
going for fifty bail in behind left hand side outcomes.
Zawatski uses his outfield experience, reads the play well, knocks
it out of bounds. It's gonna be a throwing for
the Sounders on the far side there left. But again
they're looking for that space in behind Calen.

Speaker 4 (02:06:27):
Raw and that can't tell you what I'm I'm Romero
was looking at that like I thought that was what
I was gonna do. And they're looking for that space
in behind because Columbus is looking forward and then they're
they're starting to see the heads go down with Columbus.
Can Seattle really start to push here key possession. But
when you have your chances, can you finish them off
and really put this game.

Speaker 28 (02:06:45):
Down well Sounders FC Socket is presented by Provident, Swedish
official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. And there's a ball
goes into Jordan Morris lays it off well to Rosa.
Having some time and space and joy in the middle
of the partner, I was able to roam around as
the Sounder's keep possession.

Speaker 13 (02:07:03):
You mentioned about Dela Vega. Sound Is scoring that second goal.

Speaker 28 (02:07:07):
It's going to be even sour tasting his mouth sitting
on the bench now thinking he could have potentially got
that goal to get himself back on track, to set
himself up the rest of the season.

Speaker 4 (02:07:16):
It is he needs that little bit of confidence when
the guys are playing and we're playing well. He needs
to be a part of that. Is he is the
playmaker for this team, and if he's on the bench
while they're playmaking, that's not a good thing for someone's
mental capacity, especially coming back from all the injuries that
he's on.

Speaker 28 (02:07:29):
Well, we know that Dela Vega, they're going to take
good care of him. We know that the bruns Schmetz
has expressed that during the weeks. He picked up an
injury against Nakoxa.

Speaker 13 (02:07:37):
It's been niggling.

Speaker 28 (02:07:39):
Injuries throughout the season have caused him to miss games,
but he's had a period of time on the field now,
both on the practice field and getting minutes in games
from the starting spot in the last couple coming off
the bench as well. Of course, so the Sounders medical
staff and the coaching staff for making sure that they
can have Dela Vega fit and fully ready to go.

(02:08:00):
They build his confidence mentally and physically, and so far
he continues to kind of elevate his game each and
every game he's out on the field.

Speaker 13 (02:08:07):
But here come the sound is balling behind. Georgie just
held his run. Alex Rolldon played it in between on
miscommunication from the players on the right.

Speaker 4 (02:08:16):
They'll get that. Georgie's new to the team. He's only
had a few games, and I'm in a few minutes.
I think Alex and him are going to start to
play a little bit better together. But you can see
the guys wanting to go. And I love that with
this team is that they may have had the past
two games a little bit of a downer and not
scoring goals, and now they're looking to find that confidence
again and I love.

Speaker 13 (02:08:34):
That from them. Sound is pressing high up the field
with Rusnak picks it up in the attack in half.
Sound is not letting Crew do anything in terms of possession.

Speaker 28 (02:08:44):
Swarming the ball as the ball goes down the left
hand side towards the end line. Herera comes across, slides down,
Rothrock jumps over. It would have been a throw for
the Sounders, but the system referee on this knee, so
I put his flag up.

Speaker 13 (02:08:56):
It's gonna be a free kick for the crew. He
looked down monitor A certain Ramirez is ready to come on,
and you'd mentioned a halftime callen It seemed the obvious
choice for Wilfred Dnci.

Speaker 4 (02:09:08):
It is he's got that quality goal scorer. But Elsi,
he's one of the play up front as a proper
number nine. He's he's got the height, he's got the skill,
and he's he's got the ability to finish inside the box,
which is something that's going to be very important for
the Columbus crew going forward. Trying to get back into
this game. Is throwing numbers in the box and winning
heaters well.

Speaker 28 (02:09:27):
Chambos and number seven from s Etien Summer signing comes
off the field.

Speaker 13 (02:09:31):
It's his start.

Speaker 28 (02:09:33):
Ramirez comes on as crew build out the back. Sound
is really pressing high eight players inside the.

Speaker 13 (02:09:40):
Attacking third of the field. As the crew build out
of the back with Zawatsky plays it short. As the
crew build.

Speaker 28 (02:09:47):
Come uch you on the right hand side now gets
it fartside the right as they build down the line.
It goes headed clear by Jackson Reagan, flicked forward by
roll Don.

Speaker 13 (02:09:58):
It's what's he remembers it can use his hands, just
knocks it forward. And we talked about the crowd. If
there's ever a time for the crowd.

Speaker 28 (02:10:05):
To get behind their team, it's right now you've got
an outfieldering goal and you've got you down a man.

Speaker 13 (02:10:10):
Now you're down two goals, you're the champs. This is
really where wil For Nancy will be interested to see
how his team responds. As the ball gets flipped around
the corner with Ramiro's his first touch, who was Rossi
who made a run?

Speaker 28 (02:10:21):
Andrew Thomas, not taking any chances, launches it long. Georgie
brings down brilliantly.

Speaker 4 (02:10:26):
I think Wilford Nancy's gonna be asking Ramirez to hold
that up there. I know he's trying to go forward
and make something happen.

Speaker 13 (02:10:32):
Here comes Georgie down the right hand side, picks up
by a Tensio, comes in on his left foot top
of the box, goes square to a Rosnak on his
therred right foot, strikes it back on the net. Rosneck
second goal of the night.

Speaker 32 (02:10:44):
The Sounders go up three goals to nil, and right now,
with a man up three goals up, you'd have to
think it's three points in the back for the Sounders.

Speaker 4 (02:10:56):
There's quality in this, but there's also patience and maturity
from Georgie g He picks the ball up at half field,
drives forward, plays a few passes and alb Rusnak knows
what's going on. He knows that there's an outfield their
end goal. Can he get to his favorite right foot
and can you just put a ball on frame? We
talked about it with his free kick. He did it
again here. However, he plays this one right in the corner.

Speaker 2 (02:11:15):
This time.

Speaker 28 (02:11:18):
Was hee the replay, Jordan Morris came up from an
off side position, was standing kind of in front of Rosnette.

Speaker 13 (02:11:22):
We'll see if they take a look at this. A
little shift to his right foot bottom corner. It goes
It wasn't even in the corner, as you mentioned, it
was just hit the target goal Kiber really doesn't go
to a chance to move those feet.

Speaker 4 (02:11:33):
From that angle, it did look like Jordan may have
been in the way just a little bit. They may
look at that, we'll see it, but it's still a
quality finish from Albert and he knows that he knows
the game and it's good gainsman.

Speaker 5 (02:11:44):
Ship from him.

Speaker 13 (02:11:44):
Well, remember lafc's game. Jordan Morris scored at the very
end of the game, which just a little bit of
it was a little slow coming back in position. He
was half the out off side, and I think this
is going to go against the Sounders.

Speaker 4 (02:11:56):
I think it's very similar. He does look like he
is just a touch off side and just recycling that
run as something that's going to get into the game
for Jordan Morris and he can get He's actually gonna
get more chances if he does this, gets back on
side and then maybe something bops out for him.

Speaker 28 (02:12:10):
So I can imagine certain Rosneck's gonna be hands on
hips referee gives it. Goodness, it felt like he was
all about offside maybe it was his involvement in the
play wasn't enough to warrant the.

Speaker 13 (02:12:22):
Goal being disallowed.

Speaker 28 (02:12:23):
That's the only reason I can think of, because he
certainly was he half a yard off side as we
looked across.

Speaker 13 (02:12:30):
The line from our screen. Decision goes in the favor
of the Sounders. They lead three nail here lower dot
com Field Sports Radio nine fifty k am. It's not
the score line we were potentially expecting, but certainly the
scoreline we're hoping for.

Speaker 28 (02:12:44):
And here comes Georgie down the right hand side back
line of crew asking for a free kick. Who came
off the upper arm of Georgie. Nothing given by the
assistant referee or the man in the middle. As the
assistant referee puts the flag up in the direction of
the Sounders. As Jones went down as a tangle of legs,
nothing given by the referee. It is going to be
a thrown for the Sounders, and Alex rolled on on.

Speaker 13 (02:13:06):
This near side.

Speaker 4 (02:13:08):
Whatever luck has happened with the Sounders, the fans are
going to be very happy with it, and the players
are as well. As they go through this game, and
you know, you've been a part of these games where
all of a sudden, all the luck's going your way,
and I think that's what the Sounders needed to get
through that little bad spell they've had this last few months.
Those are a few weeks.

Speaker 30 (02:13:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (02:13:25):
As we always say, you know, it doesn't matter if
it comes off your knee or your backside, whatever it is,
it's still a goal. And in the case of the
box score, it's going to say Sounders three at this point,
Crew nil, and you'll take it however you get.

Speaker 4 (02:13:38):
It, and that's what the box score is also going
to say, three points, and that's something that's huge for
the Sounders going forward after dropping six in the last
two weeks.

Speaker 13 (02:13:47):
Yeap some games around the league today, Sporting Kansas City
opponent for the Sounders.

Speaker 28 (02:13:52):
They're leading one goal to nil against New York Red
Bulls in New York. Saint Louis, another Western Conference team,
down to one against New England. Houston against ALFC currently
nil nil.

Speaker 4 (02:14:06):
Well goes into Russneck back of the net.

Speaker 13 (02:14:08):
Hat trick. It's a hat trick for Grossneck. There's four
goals for the Sounders. It's three points for the men
in Green, and it's job done for the Sounders. They
continue to have time to add to this, and this
crowd quietings, the Sounders celebrate, they go up for nil.

Speaker 4 (02:14:31):
We get talk about the game and the fact that
there's a red card and the goalkeeper is the one
to have it. But these aren't bad finishes in any way,
and we're gonna talk about it. But Rusnaks takes this
ball first time, coming across his body and puts it
in the corner. That's a quality finish and it's again
Jordan Morris finding it for him. The game's gonna get
a little bit out of hand, was what it looks

(02:14:51):
like here. But these guys are having fun again and
they're getting that confidence. And good for Rusnak, who's having
a great season this year. He's continuing that goals in
his year, three goals in his night.

Speaker 13 (02:15:03):
Sounders lead four goals to nil.

Speaker 28 (02:15:06):
And they went into Portland last week in fifth position.
That lost pushed them to eighth. And it's very tight
in that midsection of the of the Western Conference, only
a point or two between teams. Sunders can come into
Columbus Crew and get those three points, they'll set themselves
up very nicely for the remaining games, which we are

(02:15:28):
going to be against Western Conference opponents.

Speaker 4 (02:15:31):
And with those remaining games. This is one of those
games that I know people are gonna say, all right,
the game is over. But for Seattle, this is for
goal difference, this is for goals four. This pushes they
push them up a spot. When it comes to the
playoff position. They need to score as many as they
can to continue this run because they did have a
few bad games.

Speaker 28 (02:15:50):
Here comes Georgia Munger down the right hand side in
the box. He goes looking up for options. Strike by
roth Rock comes to deflation. It looked like a deflection.

Speaker 13 (02:15:58):
It's not given by the.

Speaker 28 (02:15:58):
Assistant the referee in the middle of the field, just
a few yards away from that shot.

Speaker 13 (02:16:03):
It's going to be a goalkick for the crew.

Speaker 28 (02:16:06):
Here in the seventy second minute lower dot Com field,
it's the Columbus crew nil the Sounders four yes, four
hat trick by Ruznek, goal by Morris, red card on
Romero and feels like kelln Rowe job done for the Sounders.

Speaker 2 (02:16:26):
It is.

Speaker 4 (02:16:27):
It feels like the game is done.

Speaker 28 (02:16:28):
And it comes Rothrock inside the box. Ball given away
by the crew. Strike over the top, didn't need to
do it. Difficult angle over the top goalkick. The Sounders
are going to get chances.

Speaker 13 (02:16:39):
Those chances will continue, and we all still got eighteen
minutes of the ninety to go. All right, now, it
feels like the crew are just starting to wilt it is.

Speaker 4 (02:16:51):
This is a tough situation and I've never been in
this situation before, but Seattle take advantage of the situation.
Columbus kind of come away with it with this as
you can. As that shot actually took intflection and we've
got a corner here for Seattle.

Speaker 13 (02:17:04):
Corner kick for Sounders. Rose actually going to float it
towards the backstick, allowed Jackson Wayne to attack it. Strike
by Roznik. Sorry, Rothrock. Ball bounces around, picked up by
Alex Roldan.

Speaker 28 (02:17:16):
He's going to skip it square to read Baker Whiting
with his left foot. He's going to go out wide
to Rothrock. Support by Jackson Reagan able to play on
the half turn.

Speaker 13 (02:17:24):
Pressure by Herrera.

Speaker 28 (02:17:26):
Sounders retained possession as Rossi continues to run and move.
Fourteen goal contributions in here last twelve games in all
competitions for Rossi eleven goals, three assists. He continues to
lead by example, chasing the ball down.

Speaker 13 (02:17:45):
And for the Sounders. We were talking about at halftime
call and it felt like one mill up.

Speaker 28 (02:17:50):
Player up, no goalkeeper to go in goal, and outfield
player in goal. It was all set up for the
Sounders to be successful, but also was set up for
the Sound and does potentially they hadn't taken control in
the second half for things go a little bit pair shape,
but it hasn't. The Sound has done an incredibly professional
job and now that scored additional three goals resonate with
a hat trick, looks like they've earned that three points.

Speaker 4 (02:18:13):
And the best thing is they did it off for
the first whistle. I think if they waited five ten
minutes they would have given Columbus life. But they really
got on top of him right away, and I think
that's something that Brian Smeetzer said in his halftime speech.

Speaker 13 (02:18:26):
Given away again by Zawatski and the goal sloppy by
the crew. Bullgo square to a Tensio strikes over the top.
He had Georgie Menungo to his right who was wide
open and he just kind of clips the ball us
he's striking through his Attentio goes over the top, goal
kick may it's four nil Sounders, but a really good
chance to make it five.

Speaker 4 (02:18:46):
He's on top of the box, there are Josh Atensio
and he get his eyes get a little bigger than
he needs. He didn't his vision gets right into that
goal and unfortunately puts it over. But what good play again,
They're going to be starting a pressure. The Seattle sound
are all over the Columbus Crew right now, as you
can imagine. And even though they have that that the
goalkeeper as a field player, it's hard to create something,

(02:19:09):
and especially when you're a man down in. Seattle's so
good at keeping those those angles very tight.

Speaker 13 (02:19:14):
Sub for.

Speaker 28 (02:19:16):
The Columbus Crew. Jones comes on. Then Matan came off.
We'll see what the other changes. The Arson came off
as well. We'll see what the other change is. Sounders
built out of the back. Rossi is still chasing, still harrying,

(02:19:37):
and Mix rolled down, rolls it into his brother Christian
has been strong and steady in the middle of the park.
Let's get the Sounders bench. Leo Chew, Jonathan Bell, Jacob
Cash show in as the goalkeepers.

Speaker 13 (02:19:52):
The bull goes through, he'sy collected by Sawatsky and the
Columbus Crew goal Keitahara, Danny Lava, Massovsky, Nathan and TeV.

Speaker 28 (02:20:01):
So far, just one change for the Sounders Georgie Munungo
on that right hand side.

Speaker 4 (02:20:06):
We were surprised with the first sub. And I don't
know if we're going to see another. If his is
Brian Smetzer gonna let these guys play it out. Is
he gonna make some sobs and give some guys some minutes.
It'll be interesting to see here. In the next five ten.

Speaker 13 (02:20:18):
Minutes, Sounders continue to press, all cleared by the crew.

Speaker 28 (02:20:24):
Your bo is gonna be the other player that came
on the field, sitting on that right hand side, has
that ball to his feet. Now Jones has shifting from
right to left, making a run in behind Alex Waldo
and brings it off his chest as Jones good cover
by Yemark.

Speaker 13 (02:20:37):
Continues to do his defensive duties. Now it's all about
the clean sheet. Now it's about finding Andrew Thomas another
clean sheet. The Sounders continue their defensive form. Thirty two
goals against so far, and it was the crew who
came in with less than a goal a game giving.

Speaker 28 (02:20:53):
Up coming in were they're good up four goals now
tonight and now we get some changes for Brian Schmitz's team.
Yemar's gonna come off, Nathan's goo toa come on, Jonathan
Bell and Lava ready to come on as well. Josh
A Tantio comes off, Danny Laver comes on like for like.

Speaker 13 (02:21:13):
Switch there and if Jonathan Bell likely is going to
come on either for yep, there's ride Baker Whitton comes
off as well. I'm sure if he maybe slots in
for Jackson O Reagan, but he comes on the left
hand side. Brian Schmittzer makes three solid changes to bring
a little more life and energy onto the field. It's
a few minutes for his back line.

Speaker 4 (02:21:33):
He's talked about all three of these players, Nathan Bell, Well.

Speaker 13 (02:21:39):
Gus Whine. He was a speculative shot by Rossi's wind
of the goal. It's gonna be a goal kick for
the sound is here.

Speaker 28 (02:21:44):
In the seventy eighth minute, Sounders lead four goals to
nil hatrick by Ruzneck.

Speaker 4 (02:21:52):
Brian Smetterer this week has been talking about Nathan Bell
and Lava having good weeks of training and he they
were in the conversation with this starting lineup, so the
fact that they're on the field is no surprise to us.
But let's see if they can continue this making sure
they're not slow and taking this game a little too lightly.

Speaker 13 (02:22:07):
Good ball by rolled on to Laver who made a
run down the left hand side. The far side the
Sounders left goes back to Jonathan Bell for his first
meaningful touch.

Speaker 28 (02:22:15):
He gets his foot in, the ball comes to Rothrocker's
being alive. All gain made some really good crosses, had
a good shot saved in the first half, and then
fed Jordan Morris for a simple tap in all of
six yards away. Missed one in the first half, didn't
let th
