Sounders FC Soccer is brought to you by Mikolo Vulture,
ninety five galleries and two point six grams of cards.
It's only worth it if.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
You enjoy it.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Seattle Sounders Fsee is presented by Gallagher Benefits and HR
consult Team, helping businesses, communities and people face their futures
with confidence. The Provident Swedish premat show starts now.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Well, it's finally playoff time, baby. The weather has turned
and it's time for the Seattle Sounders to do what
they always do under head coach Brian Schmitzer, play their
best soccer of the year and challenge for another Western
Conference crown at a chance at MLS Cup. It's a
long road to get there, but it starts with this

(00:44):
first round best of three series Game one tonight against
Minnesota United. Welcome to the Sounders FC pre match show,
presented by Providence Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC.
Jackson Felts alongside the former Sounder player Chance for I
we have Pete Hewing Danny Jackson waiting to call Sounders

(01:04):
Minnesota here as the playoffs begin tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
Chance.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
It is playoff time and there is a magic in
the year when it comes to this time of the year.

Speaker 5 (01:12):
Yeah, it's super great when we get to playoff time
and we always know that the Sounders is going to
be there except for one time, and we trust in
Schmidtz and his staff to have the team ready.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
I always say that this team, pretty much whenever they
are healthy, make a run towards MLS Cup. We've seen
it over and over and that year in twenty two
we're obviously missing our MVP can at jul Paolo. Twenty eighteen,
we don't make MLS Cup because Chad Marshall and Christian
Roldan get hurt in that Portland series, and pretty much
every other year where they're healthy, they're in a West Final.

(01:44):
So hopefully we can get over the loss of Pedro
de la Vega. We'll get into that in a moment
and we can make it back to another West Final.
This year it'd be Minnesota here in this round, potentially
San Diego in the second round, and then we'll see
about maybe a Vancouver LAFC in a West Final. But
it's a long long road ahead. This is just Round one,

(02:05):
Game one tonight against Minnesota. We are short on time chance,
so Let's quickly get to the starting lineup for head
coach Brian Schmitzer. It is Stephen Fryan goal, Alex schroledon
and new. Who are your fullbacks on the right and left?
Jamar is back He is starting next to Jackson Reagan
at the center back spot. Your holding midfielder duo is
back together. Finally, o beed Vargas Christian rolled on together again.

(02:28):
The attacking threesome in the midfield is Heyes, Who's Frere
on the left, Paul Rothrock on the sorry Hayeses Frere
on the right, Paul Rothrock on the left, Albert Rusnak
in between them, with Jordan Morris up top chance. We
know Minnesota has a tremendous defense. What do you think
about the attacking unit that's going to be going against
them tonight?

Speaker 5 (02:48):
Well, I believe that we are going to take them tonight.
I know that they've they've taken us two games this year,
but we've got I was looking at some stats. We
have ten goals by nine players in the last seven games.
I would really like to see Jordan get on the
score sheet. A couple of goals tonight would be tremendous,
And I think we're going to take them in Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
No, that's a great stat. Ten games, nine goals, seven players.
So I have that right and I am or no, sorry,
I have that completely wrong. Go ahead and go ahead
and give that one more time because I have a
question on it.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
The last seven games, ten goals by nine different players,
and I think that that's great to have well rounded scoring. Yeah,
but I do believe in playoffs you need to have
somebody who's hot scoring goals, and you need to have
somebody who's hot stopping goals. In the As a goalkeeper, well,
Stephen Fry is doing great right now in goal.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
It's great to have Jamar back. Defensively, I'm not overly
concerned about that side of the ball. But yeah, that
would be the question of do you need a superstar
because you are missing Pedro dal le Vega. Well, you know,
really quick, we'll dive into the Providence. Swedish team health reports.
Ryan Kent still coming back from his major hamstring injury.
He's close, not making today, but there's an expectation he

(04:00):
we'll be back for Game two. Kim Ki he's still
out with a calf strain. A few more weeks for him,
and then Pedro de la Vega, the big, extremely sad news.
He played in that decision day match at New York
City and he fractured his patella. That is a broken kneecap, folks.
The injury will keep him out for six months after
he had surgery last week. So my thought their chance

(04:22):
is missing a star and a creative force like de
la Vega. Do we have that guy on the offensive unit,
that star, that guy who can take over a game
and make it very difficult for Minnesota's back line.

Speaker 5 (04:36):
The thing about the Sounders is that they have this
mentality of next man up. Okay, if Pedro is not
going to be there, somebody else is going to come
in and play.

Speaker 6 (04:43):
All right, we have Paul Rothrock.

Speaker 5 (04:45):
Now, all the players are different, nobody's exactly like Pedro,
but we have done a good job of winning with
all different types of lineups. That's the one thing that
I've talked about many times on this show is that
we Schmetz does a great job with who he he
has available. He puts together a team that's going to
be competitive, and these guys are going to do great tonight.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
I'm gonna give you a little XO question here because
as I look at Minnesota, it's a team who seeds possession.
They say, you take the ball, you make the mistake,
we'll capitalize on the other end. And if they're gonna
give us possession, I look at Christian rold On and
Obd Vargas in that holding midfield, and I wonder how
they're going to behave If Seattle is so heavily in possession,

(05:27):
doesn't mean Christian Roldon creeps up a little bit further.

Speaker 6 (05:30):
Oh well, you never know.

Speaker 5 (05:31):
If we keep the ball and they get frustrated and
they start to come out, that'll just open up space
for Jordan to ren in behind.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Okay, so we're hoping that that would happen on that end,
but we'll see exactly this chess match between Brian Schmitzer
and Minnesota's head coach Eric Gramsey, who I can't say
enough is my age. He's fricking thirty three years old.
It's insane, and he right now is leading the fourth
seed in the Western Conference, Minnesota, and he a tremendous
soccer team out there in the Loons. Well, let's take

(05:58):
a break and let's talk about him, because they deserve
some time to get talked about this is this first round,
best of three series, so we could see them three
times in the next three weeks. It's this game is
Game one. Game two is next Monday at Luminfield, and
there's going to be a lot of chess match being
played between these coaches. Let's talk about Minnesota United coming
up next, as we are just twenty five minutes away

(06:21):
from kickoff Sounders Minnesota United at Allons Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Today's contown to kickoff is presented by Emerald Queen Casino,
the entertainment capital of the Northwest. More next on Sports
Radio nine to fifty KJRM.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
Twenty one minutes away from kickoff at Ollleon's Field. It's
round one, Game one of the playoffs for your Sounders
facing Minnesota United. Let's spend a few minutes talking about
this Minnesota team. They are sixteen eight and ten compared
to Seattle's fifteen nine and ten, so not divided by
very much, just those three points. Sounders actually have more

(10:02):
goals scored on the year, fifty eight to fifty six,
but it's the defensive side, as I mentioned, where the
Loons are one of the best teams in this league.
Thirty nine goals conceded that second lowest in the West,
third lowest in the entire league. Plus seventeen goal differential
is seven more than us. Now, we were just mentioning
off the air chance that playoffs are different when we

(10:24):
talk about the idea of tournament style soccer in playoffs.
Minnesota didn't even make it out of the first round
of League's Cup. They don't have a great history when
it comes to the playoffs. Seattle, of course, won the
entire tournament in League's Cup. We have great playoff history.
That's where I think a massive advantage that all of
these stats and all of these goals scored and all
this and that can't quantify it is the element of

(10:48):
playoff soccer.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
Yeah, we definitely have the advantage on and off the
field in my opinion, and we can analyze the crap
out of everything, but at the end of the day,
it comes down to executing in the moment and executing
in the moment when the pressure's on. And no offense
to Minnesota. I think they're a great team, and they've
had a great season and they've done well. But I
believe that we are going to pick it up and

(11:09):
today I've just made the statement earlier before we're gonna
go two games.

Speaker 6 (11:13):
We're gonna win tonight and at home.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
I mean, that's it's a bold statement for sure, considering Minnesota.
I mean this we mentioned Eric Ramsey again, thirty three
years old, he's kind of a wonder kid of Wonder
kind of MLS. His style we've talked about so defensive.
He basically tells opponents, you take the ball, we're just
going to sit back, capitalize on your mistakes, go the
other way and either get you on the counter, or

(11:36):
we're gonna get you on set pieces. As they've been
scoring on set pieces at a historic rate, just frustrating teams.
The game that Seattle played in Minnesota a couple of
months ago was exactly that. They basically said the Sounders,
you can have seventy percent of the ball. We're going
to sit back. We don't care how much our fans
don't like it on social media. We are going to
let you have it, and then we're going to take
advantage of the set piece, which they did with Pereira

(11:58):
in the seventy third minute that led to a one
to nothing win for Minnesota. But again, it is playoff
soccer and it's very, very different, so we'll have to
see important to note there is a lot of different
people who can score, but one of them is no
longer with Minnesota, tany Olawashee, who had ten goals and
eight assists. He had you know, basically, you know, almost

(12:20):
a fifth of their goals overall on the year. He
was transferred to La Ligas villar Real for a club
record transfer fee just a couple months ago, so he's gone.
But they still have Pereira with six goals and eleven
assist They still have Kelvin Yobo with nine goals, Robin
lud with five goals six assists, lots of defenders who
can put a ball in the back of the net
or on those set pieces, hold up a ball and

(12:42):
drop it off. I mean that element of set pieces
going into a box or just crosses going into a box,
bringing it down and then setting up another player. That's
something Minnesota does really well, but chances we transition to
players to watch. That's something Seattle can do as well.

Speaker 6 (12:57):
Yeah. No, we definitely have done that better as late.

Speaker 5 (13:00):
And I'm very excited to see when we've got set
pieces and I'm looking at our starting lineup. I don't
believe there's hardly any teams in MLS that have as
strong as starting lineup as we have.

Speaker 6 (13:11):
And then you look at the bench.

Speaker 5 (13:12):
You've got guys like Danny Mussovski, Derisario Georgie.

Speaker 6 (13:16):
You can come off the bench and get goals. So
we've got a lot of firepower.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
In that firepower. Who's your player to watch?

Speaker 6 (13:21):
My player to watch is my boy Jordan Morris.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
I was talking with him, we were texting a little bit,
and I told him, I'm you're gonna be my man
to watch, so you get me a couple of goals,
and he said he would.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
I mentioned there about you know, being good in those crosses,
and we've seen him over the last few years or
so be better in the year where you know, give
me kind of the execution for how Jordan can be
good in that part of the game. If the Sounders
do get stifled with their defense and have to just
kind of figure out ways to get balls in the box.

Speaker 5 (13:48):
Yeah, I think that we need to maybe shake things
up a little bit. So if we're keeping possession and
they're keeping in their shape, dumps a few balls in.
Just dump them in and maybe Jordan can knot it
down to somebody else or flick it on.

Speaker 6 (14:00):
Just change it up a little bit.

Speaker 5 (14:01):
But you know, Jordan, I think is coming into his
fitness a little bit better the last few weeks, and
I think that he's going to be really fired up
for this game. Jordan has been in the past a
great playoff player for US, and I think tonight's gonna
do it again.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
I'm going Christian rolled on because as I look and
I kind of alluded to it in the previous segment.
If Minnesota, as you say, stays in their shape and
we kind of just are passing it around the edge
of the final third and wondering where the seams to
find a hole, I need some Christian creativity. I need
the guy from the US national team who's may have
just locked up a spot in the World Cup next year.

(14:35):
I need him to take command. I needed him to
be the leader on the in that side of the field,
and I need to step up and figure out ways
to be creative and get that ball into the box.
And maybe it is lobbing in there, but I think
there might be times where Christian Roldan needs to take
charge as a leader in this game. We'll take a
break here, we'll come back and here a few minutes
from chances player to watch Jordan Morris. That'll come up next.

(14:56):

Playoffs are here the Seattle Sounders getting ready to kick

Monday night at lumin Field. But for this game and
for the start of this first round series, had the
chance to catch up with Jordan Morden Jordan Morris, excuse
me last week at training Jordan before we talked soccer
a minute. You're a Seattle guy. Just emotions seeing the

(18:34):
Mariners season end in such heartbreak.

Speaker 26 (18:36):
Yeah, I mean I'm gutted for for them and for
the for the fan base. Obviously, they had such an
incredible year. And I was a you know, obviously I'm
still a big Manors fan, but I grew up. I
would watch every game come off, to watch every game
with my friends, and you know, I felt that kid
kind of come out of me again watching these games.
I was really pulling for them as as you know,

(18:56):
was the whole group in the city and what they
made Seattle proud, and it was just it was.

Speaker 19 (19:01):
Awesome watching them.

Speaker 26 (19:02):
And to come up that short is obviously really really
tough in in uh in sports. So hopefully they can
get back there there next year. But yeah, it was
a pleasure to watch them.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
So their playoff run comes to an end, your playoff
run begins. What are your thoughts on facing Minnesota for
the third time this year? Yeah, I mean, we're excited.
This is the best time of the year.

Speaker 26 (19:21):
Guys are talking about like, you know, you drive in,
the weather's changing and everything just feels like playoff times.
So we've obviously have an experienced group that knows how
to play in tournaments, knows how to play in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
Minnesota are are a good team.

Speaker 26 (19:33):
They beat us twice this year, so you know, it's
gonna be a tough matchup, especially playing playing away from
home for for for the first game. But you know,
we're excited and we're ready for for the opportunity for.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
Their unique style Defensively, how do you guys go about
breaking them down without giving away too many tactics?

Speaker 26 (19:50):
Yeah, I mean, you know, we're you know, they've been
switching between four and five a bit and had some
some injuries, I know, so you know, it's gonna be
maybe a little bit of a different team, a little
bit of different game. But they're very yeah, obviously very
good defensively. We've been working on some different things to
break down if they're you know, more in a low
block and things like that. But we've we've scored a
lot of goals this year. We you know, had two

(20:10):
tough games against them. We can learn from those. But yeah,
they've obviously been a really tough, tough team defensive this year,
so it's going to be a challenge.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
It's good stuff there from Jordan Morris, I'm sorry to
all Mariner fans. I should have given a trigger warning
on that first question. But Jordan, like the rest of us,
Mariner fans, very very sad about the way things ended.
Hopefully the Sounders playoff run ends in a very different
fashion than the Mariner's playoff run ends. And I know
I'm angering a lot of Mariner fans. Sorry. Anders all right,

Speaker 19 (27:28):
Ning from Alliancefield in Saint Paul, where your Sounders face
Minnesota United in the first game of the first round
of the twenty twenty five MLS Playoffs. Minnesota have enjoyed
their best season since joining the league back in twenty seventeen,
finishing fourth position and with one of the best defensive

(27:49):
records in MLS. This year, they are ready to make
a run for their first MLS Cup. For your Sounders.
Three wins on the bounce with two clean sheets is
the perfect way to finish the season and enter the
playoffs with a trophy already sitting in the cabinet after
their league's cup triumph, They're now seeking the double in
a fiercely competitive Western Conference this year, the Sounders might

(28:12):
be finding the form they need to carry them towards
a third MLS Cup under Brian Schmeltzer. I'm Danny Jackson
alongside former Seattle University head coach Pete feuing here in
the booth. Before we get to Pete for his initial thoughts,
let's get you the delta, starting eleven for your Sounders
and for Brian Schmetzer, most likely his strongest lineup going

(28:33):
into the playoffs this year. Seven Fryan gol a back
four of Alex rolled on Jamar back in the lineup
after picking up an injury just a couple of weeks ago.
Jackson Reagan after he goal winning gold last week against
New York from the corner kick He'll pay in the
middle and then knew who on that left hand side.
Christian rolled on back alongside ober Vargas middle of the

(28:53):
park after both of them took a week off last
week after international duty. Hayesus Ferrera on the right of
the three, but Rosnak in the ten. Paul Rothrock on
the left hand side for the injured Della Vega, who
of course went off sadly last week, joined the first
half with a fractured kneecap and then Jordan Morris getting
back on the scoreesheet last week. He will play up

(29:14):
front four Minnesota and the home team dancing player and goal.
And the question is what's the formation that Minnesota will
put out. They're tested out four four to two in
the last couple of weeks, typically a five four one,
and we'll start with that middle three, which we believe
they will go back to what they know. Well, it's
Diaz Boxel and Romero long one A most likely plays

(29:35):
on the right, Mark Nick plays on that left hand side,
Triantis Trap and Rosales will play in the midfield, and
then lud and then Perea, who has stepped in big time.
That will have past a couple of weeks with both
Yoboa being out injured and also Olawa Say leaving in
the summer for Villarreal for close to nine million dollars.

(29:55):
So Pete viewing as the teams get ready to go,
how does this line up now for the same and
Brian schmittza in the first round of the playoffs, how
did he get a win?

Speaker 30 (30:03):
I love it, you know, with the exception of Pedro
de la Vega being out, this is I'd say if
Brian Schmitzer was total at the beginning of the year,
this is the lineup you're going to have your last
six games. You'll be three to two to one coming in.
I think he would be happy with this lineup. I
think he'd be happy with the form. I think he'd
be happy with the nine days off. I think Seattle
desperately wanted to have a home field advantage on this.

(30:26):
I think they come out guns of blazing for this one,
try to win this one, see what happens on the
second one.

Speaker 29 (30:31):
And try to wrap it up for a third one
if necessary.

Speaker 30 (30:34):
But I think Brian's happy. Jordan Morris, as you just said,
got a goal in the last game. Jackson Reagan got
a goal in the last game. Those are important guys
to get on the score sheet and contribute in the postseason.

Speaker 19 (30:45):
So Pete playing away from home in this first of
three games sounds have been there obviously last year with
Houston as well, Grand out of zero zero one on
PKS then a one to one PKS and they got
that win through this new format. So what's the mentality
of away team going into a place like minnesot to
manage to keep it tight, grind out that win, maybe

(31:06):
push to PKS. But for the Sound is they have
got a good record away from.

Speaker 30 (31:09):
Home, absolutely, and I don't think they've ever been a
let's get the PKS type of team. And frankly, I
don't think Stephan Fry wants to go to PKS. I
think he wants to wrap it up during the game.
Seattle's never been a park the Bus team with Brian
Schweitzer or Ziggi Schmid for that matter.

Speaker 29 (31:24):
So I think they come out.

Speaker 30 (31:26):
Trying to get the win in regulation and not rely
on penalty kicks. And you know, I think it's interesting
because you just mentioned that they're gonna they've got a
trophy in the cabinet already. They want another one. They
don't want to have a Champions League Cup and then
have a tough season.

Speaker 29 (31:41):
They want to get two trophies out of this year
and know they can do it.

Speaker 30 (31:44):
They've got a veteran staff that knows, a veteran team
that knows they can do it.

Speaker 19 (31:48):
Hey, the Sound is now tacking through to the field
with Russnet whips it out to this right hand site
to Ferrara takes a cutback with pressurea mark and it
plays it into Obed Vargas now down towards the end
line for Ferrara, He's gonna clip it in towards the
near post, bounces around and eventually cleared by Minnesota. Picked
up by Yama. Good to see him back in the
lineup alongside Jackson Reagan and eleven men behind the ball

(32:10):
for Minnesota. We'll call that a lot tonight. But here
comes fair in behind. It goes to Jordan Morris towards
and I strikes it. It's a one handed saved by
Dane Sinclair, and it's gonna be a first corner cake
for the Sounders inside the first minute here in Saint
Paul Pete hewing.

Speaker 29 (32:24):
What a great entry ball from Jackson Reagan.

Speaker 30 (32:27):
Bran Schmetzer said at the beginning of the year, he's
one of the best passers out of the back, and
I've watched.

Speaker 29 (32:31):
It closer and closer. That was a terrific ball.

Speaker 30 (32:33):
And then Ovid Vargin receives it, plays another terrific ball
to Jordan Morris making a great run.

Speaker 29 (32:38):
Good start for Seattle.

Speaker 19 (32:40):
Good start by the Sounders. Indeed, playing on the front
foot here Rusnak on the right hand side, arm up
in the air corner kick outswinger his right foot, nice
and flat ball bounces around the eighteen yard box, eventually
poke clear by Minnesota and lut and it's gonna be
rolled on on this near sign. He's gonna knock it
all the way back to Sefron and Fry for his
first touch. Sounders in there anniversary kit this evening, green shirts,

(33:02):
blue shorts, and white Sox Minnesota in their all black
kit with slashes of white and blue here and there.
Of course, Minnesota rich heritage of football in these areas.
I think it was noted this week that one of
the first games organized football games here was in the
late nineteenth century close one hundred and fifty years ago,

(33:25):
Minnesota Thunder of course, where assistant head coach Freddy Warez played.
Played against Freddy for number of years when he was
in Minnesota, and I was with the Sounders so Nesota
Thunder one. They're only championship in the old USL A
league years back in nineteen ninety nine. Best finished as
an MLS franchise this year, sitting in fourth position, Sounders

(33:49):
in their fifth position as they build out the back
with Obed plays it outside to this near sight to
Alex Roldan who's played extreme well this year. Paulin, he comes,
Morris dancincled just about guests. He hesitated for a split
second wait for the bounce and it skipped through to
the big Canadian International.

Speaker 29 (34:08):
What a terrific ball.

Speaker 30 (34:09):
Another great entry pass, this one about forty five yards,
Alex Roldon finding his buddy Jordan Morris on a good run.
Little bender again, good start for Seattle. They've got to
capitalize on one of these though Jordan always had a
couple of good chances.

Speaker 29 (34:25):
We'll always just off by a little.

Speaker 19 (34:26):
Yeah, We'll see Pete. You know they are going to
get flip and flop. In terms of formation, Ramsey, head coach,
has played with this lineup with Olawa Shane your Boa missing.
They usually the players that could spring from a counter attack.
They play so deep. They are sitting in a flat
five right now, as they have done in really for

(34:48):
the last eighteen months or so. Into Eric Ramsey. They
don't care about having the ball. We thought LAFC would
that for the last few years, but no team has
played with the ball less than Minnesota have this year
about four possession in games. But they've been incredibly successful
playing that way. Eight wins at home, but eight wins
away from home as well, so the manner in which

(35:09):
they play is certainly more like an away team. But
here comes the sound. It's down the left hand side
with Rothrock gets a little poke away from Daz goes
to ground. It's well played by Rothrock, exactly what you'd
hope for the sound as left winger. He knicks a ballpass,
Daz goes down, wins a free kick in a dangerous area.

Speaker 30 (35:27):
Yeah, a good run from Paul Rothrock. Again, another forward
ball bending down the line, this time on the left
hand side. You know, it's funny about the possession thing.
You wonder if coach Ramsey walks in the locker room says, Okay,
here's what we're gonna do it. We're gonna let them
have the ball. How does that go over with players
who want to play? You know, But it works, and
if it works, then you don't argue and maybe you

(35:49):
get comfortable. Maybe you say, Okay, we're gonna we're gonna
be a great counter attack team if you buy in.

Speaker 19 (35:53):
I think it depends on results, and the results have
stood for them so far this season. But here they
are defending. Now this free kick Rusnack on the left
hand Sounders attacking the goal two hour right. It's going
to be an inswering about ten yards from the endline,
just a couple of yards in from the far touch line.

Speaker 8 (36:07):
One.

Speaker 19 (36:07):
I'm up in the airby Ruzzneck, rolled on holding top
of the box. Ball gets whipped in his headed just
over by. I think it was Yamer on that front
sake he got up, he just clipped it towards the
back post a little bit too high. Goal kick remains
Neil Neil.

Speaker 29 (36:22):
I love to see that.

Speaker 30 (36:23):
Last week it's Jackson Reagan, today it's gomas Androtti. They're
dangerous and there's a mismatch with Reagan size wise. I
think he's got trap is on him and it's a mismatch.

Speaker 29 (36:36):
So we got to keep looking for those center backs on.

Speaker 19 (36:38):
Free kicks they come. Minnesota building out the back. Sound
has putting some high press on now, not letting him
get comfortable there. As Perero, who's stepped in over the
last six weeks or so with Yobora being out, it's
kept up the goals from his attacking midfield position. He
has the ball now top of his own eighteen yard box,

(36:58):
not quite where Ramsey wants to be further up the field.
As they build on this near side with trap back
to Romero that strong left foot as he sits on
the ball, a little bit of pressure from Ferrara just
clips it down into stalwart lud as the ball goes inside.
Good play by minnesot as they continue to build in possession,

(37:19):
but there's rolled on gets pulled out around the neck
by Triantis, the new signing, the Australian player. We'll see
if that's some more than a word from the referee.
He has a little word. No yellow cards so far,
but cynecol little greb has rolledan, nipped in, won the ball.
It's gonna be a freak it for the Sounders.

Speaker 29 (37:41):
I'll tell you what.

Speaker 30 (37:41):
Christian roll He is on the carpet more than any
of our Seattle Sounders, probably since Ladero left the team.
But he mixes it up in the middle of the
park all the time. Such a nuisance and so difficult
to knock off the ball well.

Speaker 19 (37:56):
Trianti is one of the newest signings for Minnesota against
one of the most experienced players on the field, and
Christian rolledan. Of course. He talked about it last week
in detail about his entry into the mem US men's
national team scene. Playing great performances against Australia in this
last camp Ecuador before that, has put himself in a

(38:19):
really good position to be in contention part of that
squad for the twenty twenty six World Cup. As Christian
rolled on, and wouldn't that be a fairy tale story
to play in Seattle inner group game for the US
men's national team at a club in a stadium where
he's played well over three hundred games. Now he Jordan
Morris Stephen Frying the top ten of active players with
games played in playoff football in MLS, Jordan Morris being

(38:43):
the number one active player in terms of goals. So
good to have Jordan back in the lineup and back
on the score sheet last week as he wriggles free
center of the park, obed has it keeps possession. Yema
on this near side rolled on pushing high and wide
on the near side the right, and it's Christian rolled
on from center to the far side the left cushion

(39:04):
headed buy roll down as Jemar gets so he knew
who gets involved on that left hand side pressure in
eleven men behind the ball as you mentioned they'll do that,
but a little bit loose on the pass by Christian
as the ball goes out of bounds on a far
side throwing for Minnesota.

Speaker 30 (39:20):
I like that Jordan Morris coming back into the midfield
and then Rusnak taking his spot. Just that little bit
of interchange confusing the defense a little bit.

Speaker 29 (39:29):
But I like to see Jordan coming back to get
the ball.

Speaker 19 (39:33):
It comes Minnesota. Now the ball's in behind, He's gonna
have a chance. He scuffs his shun just enough by
Jackson Reagan to come in behind. Long warning, wonderful chance
on the break, he had the gold gaping and he did.
He pulled it wide and Pete fewing that is the

(39:53):
chance for Minnesota to get on the board. They broke
through in the center of the park. Sounders were in
sixes and sevens for a second. Long one d about
forty yards to drive forward, almost too much time to
think about it. Little push by Jackson Reagan. Let's hope
the referee doesn't pull that one back. That could be
a var and I'm just gonna guess that it could be.

Speaker 29 (40:15):
Yeah, it's pretty hard to uh.

Speaker 19 (40:17):
And nothing given by the referee so far. The ball
went out of bound, so he must have got nothing
on it. Not enough by Jackson Reagan. It was a
felt like it was a push. The crowd are letting
the referee know all about it.

Speaker 29 (40:29):
Certainly an extended arm right from Jackson Reagan.

Speaker 30 (40:32):
You know, that's where he has learned so much since
his first years, how to use his body to disrupt
a forward when they're shooting. But that one, I'm glad
that they're not going to var.

Speaker 19 (40:42):
We'll just keep hoping here that the referee doesn't pull
it back if he's got something already from VR to
cancel out that. Jordan Morris has a little push on
Jordan Morris on Boxler. Now they're going to have another go.
They're going to ask the referee to take a look.
As Dane Sinclair comes out. The referee is being surrounded
by Minnesota players. It's gonna be a yellow car for

(41:03):
Dane Sinclair. That's not what you want from the goalkeeper.
We'll push on the referee, but it's at all a
lot of the referees doing.

Speaker 29 (41:09):
I think Pete Fioy, no, it doesn't. He's been a
little bit on our side so far.

Speaker 30 (41:13):
Some of the tackles in the middle of the park
have gone our way, that one with Jackson Reagan and
then this one. I think the Jordan Morris call was
a bit soft just now, but I think it might
have been a bit of a makeup. So good to
see Saint Clair get that yellow card.

Speaker 19 (41:25):
Eleventh minute here in Saint Paul nil nil, first round
of the playoffs. Sports Radio nine fifty am tonight. Wherever
you're joining us, driving home from work, at home synced
up with Apple, maybe you're taking one of the kiss
of some sporting event in and around the Puget Sound
area or the wider Washington state area. Thanks for joining us.
Sounders have earned the right to be here. Sixteenth year

(41:48):
out of seventeen seasons they have made the playoffs, And
now it sounds just taking a little breath. I think
it was hot in mouth moment for a split second
as long when we went through missed this chain just
a few minutes ago, preserving the nil nil tires Rosales.
Oh Diaz right there is gonna have a little go

(42:10):
at the referee again. It feels like in the Minnesota
rize that the cars going against him.

Speaker 30 (42:18):
I would agree, honestly that there's been on our side.
If it's been close it's gone to Seattle's favor well.

Speaker 19 (42:24):
Sounders FC. Socket is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare
partner of Sounders FC, and it's as Sounders who have
the ball far side the left with Nuho to Jackson Reagan,
as you mentioned, scored the game winner last week against
New York City for the last game of the season
on decision Day. Just what Yn Schwetz would have wanted.

(42:47):
I think the demand now for Jackson Reagan is he
needs to play at that level week in week out.
Is that a really good season in terms of goals
from corner kicks? Just the second goal of the season
for Jackson and the way he man handled the back
line of New York for that goal shows what he
can do with that big six foot five frame. The

(43:09):
ball just goes out of bounds on the far side,
referee calls it back. It's gonna be a thrown from
Minnesota on that far side. You mentioned Ramsey, one of
the youngest coaches in MLS, came from the Manchester United
system as an assistant coach. So ball tries to get
played in by Perera, drop back by Sounders. Here comes
Rosnick plays it outside to Farrara tries to whit the

(43:31):
ball across the Rothrock ball bounces around from Ramira just
cushions away. Jordan Morris let's the ball bounce through to
his goalkeeper and so to have the ball with Dane
Saint Clair, who's up for goalkeeper of the Year and
one of the favorites for sure.

Speaker 30 (43:53):
He's been great coming out of Maryland. Is he was
young when he came out, really just gotten better and better.

Speaker 29 (44:01):
It's kinda like Stephan Fry.

Speaker 30 (44:02):
He's found his home and he has been a great
leader for him as well. So fun to see that
last chance that Minnesota has had. That's gonna be a
lesson that see how learns right away that's how they
are going to attack.

Speaker 19 (44:15):
Good play by Resident, just let the ball go, saw
the vision out to new who. Now he goes to Rothrock.
He has some time and space far side, the left
cuts in to his preferred and stronger right foot and
now it's rolled on, rolls it back out to new Who.
They'll run by Rothrock whipped in by New who deflected
off Rosales on a far side. It's going to be
a thrown for the Sounders, and the Sounders are not
quite as potent as Minnesota from throw ins. They lead

(44:38):
MLSC in goals from throwings. Typically is Captain Boxel, the
New Zealander that comes across and throws the ball in
about ninety yards from the sideline. At least it feels
that way. Is It drops right into the middle of
the six yard box at times. But here's the sounder's version.
Paul Rothrock has the ball in his hands about eight
yards from the corner flag far side. The sound has left.

(45:00):
It's going to be a long throw from Paul Rothrock.
Baul comes in, skips towards Jackson Wag and flicks forward.
Ball bounced around top of the eighteen yard box. Obed's
there straight by Rusnak ask him for deflection. The referee
doesn't give. It's gonna be a goal kick here in
the fifteenth minute in Saint Paul, Minnesota in this first
round of the playoffs as Minnesota nil, Sounders nil pe viewing.

Speaker 30 (45:21):
Well, I like the beginning of the game, but we've
kind of dropped off a little bit. We've got to
get our rhythm back again. I think the wings are
a very effective tool, but I love the fact that
we've also gone straight down the middle as well, So
we got to get Rothrock involved.

Speaker 29 (45:34):
We've got to get Alex roll Don involved as well.

Speaker 19 (45:38):
That's an awkward collision by Yamar and Olawa Shae Long
one Ah number twenty one, who missed that challeng just
a few minutes ago, stood his ground. Yem I went
over the top, landed awkwardly. I think it's gonna be okay.
Maybe the wind knocked out of him. More than anything,
I want to see him on the ground too much today.
We need his strong presence. Of course, missed Amar joined

(46:00):
Club World Cup, he would have been a real asset
back there. Likes of Jonathan Bell have stood in for
him at times. Alex rolldand of course played center back
at times as well. This season has looked down and
I monitor to see a quick replay, but the Sounders
win the free kick, so you need to keep their cool.
You mentioned the referee feels like he's a little bit

(46:22):
more in the favor of the sound is per the
minnesot'a crowd a night now packed houses ever here at
Alliance Field of course host men's national team games women's
national team games. You mentioned the home record of eight
to five and four. Actually that away form is actually

(46:44):
better with an eight, three and six.

Speaker 30 (46:48):
I think that goes to the lineup they're using with
the five at the back that they're so comfortable with,
and I think it makes it difficult for teams when
another team, when you have as much of the ball
but you don't get any success at it, you start
to get frustrated.

Speaker 19 (47:00):
Well, when you play away from home, you tend to
kind of back in a little bit, play a little deeper.
They do that at home and away. But the onus,
of course on a home team is to play on
the front foot and that's when opportunities to counterattack can come.
And as they always say, you're not there to entertain
as an away team, you're able to get points, right,
and they've certainly done that very well this year of Minnesota.
As Jackson or Eagan clears his lines. Safety first, I'd

(47:24):
say we do the same.

Speaker 30 (47:25):
We play the same whether we're on the road or
at home, right, But some teams will play different home
and away. So we have two teams right now that
are used to their own system.

Speaker 19 (47:34):
Here comes Box. As you mentioned just a few minutes ago,
the big New Zealander center back's got to come up.
It's going to launch this ball into the night's sky.
Sound as if I've been practicing this all week, talking
to the coaching staff how to box out, how to
frame out their players as they make their runs. But
here comes boxel in. It comes towards the near corner
of the six yard box. We'll play by the sound

(47:54):
has cleared their lines, fins boxill again. Top of the
box is a strike by Tree. Answers there's a real
strike just wide, narrowly wide of Stephen Fry's right hand posts.
It's gonna be a goal kick. It's got to be
nil nil. That's a chance from twenty five yards.

Speaker 30 (48:12):
I like this for Steph though I felt like he
had it covered. It was a really nice strike.

Speaker 19 (48:19):
Triantis, the Australian, as we mentioned you, twenty two initiative player,
two goals to assist so far in his season coming in.
It's a short time ago, so it really started his
career in Minnesota. Well, they try and fill the void
of Oloachet who went to Villa Reale. But here comes

(48:41):
one of their journeymen. Lud cuts the ball towards Rose Eyes,
back heel towards Perea, turn and strike it off the
goal and it goes by rolled On. It was miscommunication
between I think roth Rock and Reagan. Somebody had to
step in. I think Reagan needed to take control. He didn't.
They managed to pop around and eventually cleared off the
line by rolled On. As the ball gets coaxed over

(49:01):
the end line by Obed, there's gonna be some discussions
between the two ex youth team players. You see a
replay here as little confusion between Rothrock and Reagan. Nobody
takes control and eventually it's cleared off the line by Rolldan.

Speaker 30 (49:18):
Good for Alex getting behind Stephan Fry make sure he
clears it off. Now that looked like it was nothing until.

Speaker 29 (49:27):
You go, I go, that could have been a very
difficult gold again.

Speaker 19 (49:30):
And I'm sure Bruan Schmidtz will bring that up with
Jackson Reagan, maybe not at halftime, but certainly the end
of the game about taking control. As a center back,
balled by Markinich towards the top of the eighteen, covered
well by Christian Rolldan, picked up now by Rothrock on
this far side the Sounders left back towards new who
hooks it down. The line goes into the foot of
Morris Good layup by Morris. Here comes Rothrock little heavy

(49:52):
on the touch menaster wriggle free. Nothing given by the
referee as Rothrock went to ground, picked up by Minnesota.
Now this is what they do well. They pick the
ball in the central areas and they break quickly top
of the box, wriggle free again. Here comes long One,
a little give and go with I think.

Speaker 27 (50:06):
It was.

Speaker 19 (50:10):
Perea potentially top of the box the Triantis who made
his initial run. Here comes he Triantis again. The Australian
tries to whip it around the corner towards long one
ache cleared by the sound As picked up by Lud
far side Minnesota's right. They have the ball in they're
attacking half for the field. Luod has it just a
yard off the far touchline, back to let it goes

(50:30):
ten yards from the end line to Rosales, overlap and
run by Diaz. Here comes Resolves and his preferred left
foot strikes it. Oh just wide, trying to find that
far corner. Almost made it from a tight angle. It's
gonna be a goal kick. Round of applause by the
home fans. Nil nil, but Pete feuing the Sounders can

(50:51):
breathe a sigh of relief a couple of times over
this last few minutes.

Speaker 30 (50:53):
Yeah, absolutely, that was a great strike, just a little
bit wide, maybe a foot or two wide. I don't
know that Steph gets to that one. If it's inside
the post, it's a great strike. Alex rolled on in
the last one, doing a nice job covering. Minnesota makes
a good run through our box. Alex tracks back, got it.
We were giving away a little too.

Speaker 29 (51:13):
Much in the in our own pedalace Go sa Pete.

Speaker 19 (51:15):
It felt like a good start by the Sounders the
first five minutes or so, playing on the front foot.
Now Minnesota found their way. Feels a little indecision at
times by the Sounders in critical moments. It's knew who
tries to play the ball inside. It does find Obed.
You mentioned both Obed and rolled On left at home
when the travels to New York last week just to
preserve their legs for this playoff run. It comes rolled

(51:36):
On tries to find the foot of Morris, finds it
again top of the box. It comes for Rare back
to rolled on to his brother Christian towards the Endliney
go his clips towards the backstick and as Rothrop goes
In finds Russick strike well struck, comes off the chests
of Triantis and over the endline. It goes for a
Sounder's corner kick.

Speaker 30 (51:56):
That was a great strike by russ Nack dreams definitely
start something that could have been a goal well struck.

Speaker 29 (52:02):
Now we get the corner kick. Hopefully we get another
service like the last one.

Speaker 19 (52:05):
It was two set pieces last week, one from a
free kick in swinger by Roznak with a flick headed
by Morris, and then it was a corner kit by
Laver from the right hand side that time where he
mentioned checks and Reagan showed what he can do, outmuscled
his opponent and Powder headed home for the winner. Can
they do it again? Ball whipped in now towards the

(52:25):
near post, flicks on on just off the line by
rolled on strike by Yeamar, flicks around this six yard box,
ball bounces around, eventually hooked clear by Minnesota, brought down
by Obed, finds roll Don clips it towards the top
of the eighteen yard box, headed away, brought down by Minnesota,
and Triantis finds Markinich on this near side as he

(52:50):
drives forward across the half way line. Nine goals one
assist for the outside left player. Wonderful season by Mark
and Nick. So ball gets whipped and we'll see that
play now, and it's right off the goal line. It
was Christian rolled on and made that run towards the
front post. Pete almost got there.

Speaker 30 (53:06):
Well, that's what he was great at doing at the
University of Washington. That was his run, slashing in front
and going to the back post.

Speaker 29 (53:13):
Great header.

Speaker 30 (53:14):
That's two corners for us that look very dangerous and
different guys in the mix right first one Gormaz Androti.

Speaker 19 (53:21):
This one Christian rolled on Daint Sinclair way out his goal.
Ball goes in towards Perea marshaled well by rolled on
on this near side. The sound is right cleared and
then picked up by Treantis. Australian to ground goes Ferrera
and just drags the ball on the sly tackle. Good
play by Jesus. He drives the ball along now towards Morris.
This is the chances for Morris getting behind Rosales reads

(53:42):
the game just about right and pulls it off the
toe of Maris finds trap and he clips the ball
from this near side to the far side and Diaz
now has some time and space to drive forward, cuts
the ball five yards inside to Triantes, attacking third of
the field for Minnesota. As the sound is Shirts now
get back behind the ball. Ten men behind the ball.
Jordan Morris now drops in as a Sounders hold the

(54:05):
top of their eighteen yard bocks.

Speaker 30 (54:09):
You love to see that from Ferrera tracking all the
way back, going to the carpet to win the ball,
then looking straight up and finding Jordan Morris. Sometimes people
think he's a luxury player, but that's the good work
that he's got to do.

Speaker 2 (54:19):
So that's the.

Speaker 29 (54:20):
Sounder's way, right Nobody, uh, everyone has to defend.

Speaker 19 (54:23):
Ball hook clear by the Sounders, no pressures. Now, Rosnack
starts to put a little bit of pressure on box
All as he just plays the ball to Romero just inside.
They are attacking half the field. Lineup confrontation just a
yard or two inside their attack in half with Morrison
and Rosneck ball split finds lud who just lets the
ball loose from his touch, but off the tackle of

(54:45):
new Who's going to be Pere Who's going to pick
the ball up dead center of the park. They mentioned
it's going to be interesting to see how they line
up here along one day. We thought had played on
the right. Now he's shifted it to more of an
attacking position alongside lud Rosales on that right hand side.
Marknich of course marshaling this left hand side triantis trap
in the middle of the park. But here come the

(55:06):
sound is a little bit of press. Now they wind
the ball across the halfway line farst side the left
overlapping run by Obed given by Rothrock. As the ball
goes out of bounds. The referee is just going to
sort this out. Gives the throwing to Minnesota quickly and
by Minnesota as Obed comes back and professional foul referee
just telling him to calm down, just stop the play.

(55:26):
Good play by Vargas and that's his maturity. P he
sees the play. It's a good place to get the foul,
get back behind the ball and just stem that attack.

Speaker 29 (55:36):
Yeah, that is smart.

Speaker 30 (55:37):
That's a good heads up planets and it's not card
worthy by any means. He's got defenders that are ahead
of him in that sequence, so good for him.

Speaker 19 (55:48):
Bran Schmizer marshaling his troops. Now from the sideline, we've
crept back in at a bit.

Speaker 30 (55:54):
Would you agree it's been a little bit of good
for the Seattle in the last minute bit better.

Speaker 19 (55:59):
They've defended well. Yeah, sometimes like any team, the Sounders
are guilty of it as well, and the only parts
of the season causing their own problems at times giving
up goals. I think they were uncharacteristic, would you say
of the Sounder's way. They led the defensive side of
the ball in MLS for the last two years, this
year not so much in terms of goals against. It

(56:20):
was thirty two in twenty twenty three, thirty five and
twenty twenty four, and in this season it's forty eight.
So they managed to tie in things up going into
the playoffs. Two clean sheets in two of their last
three games against RSL and Portland, just a one goal
last week against New York. Just one goal between the

(56:41):
teams in the last five games that the Sounders have played.
So back to their normal ways of defend well and
get the guys who can score goals in good positions.
And for the Sounders it almost feels like Pete that
with Jordan Risk on the score sheet, Jackson Reagan scoring
from a set piece on the way, the Sounders can
win this thing.

Speaker 29 (57:02):
I would agree, and I think they all know it.
I think they all know that Steven fries at it.

Speaker 30 (57:06):
Earlier in the year, these chances to get into the
postseason don't come. They do come off in for Seattle,
but they know they've got a really veteran group and
that this group I might not be together, you know,
three or more years, two more years, so they want
to take advantage of it this year.

Speaker 19 (57:22):
They come Minnesota. A ball in possession left hand size. Ramera,
from his central defensive spot, finds a spot with long
one A picks the ball up just outside the eighteen
yard box back to trap as he clips the ball
towards Romero, ten yards from the endline left hand side,
whips it towards the fast sick it's gonna skip just
about through and Zalez just about keeps it on the

(57:42):
farst side, close down by Rothrock, right in front of
the assistant referee. Back it goes clipped in by dz
headed away by Jackson Reagan, which he did so well,
and they comes Morris now nothing forward and available to him.
He has to slow the game down, goes down the
referees to give the free kick. He just waited, did
Jordan a right? So now could be a yellow card
by Peree. Has he got in the way. Jordan Morrison

(58:04):
wants to get the game going. He does, finds Rosnack
center of the park.

Speaker 30 (58:07):
I like that from Jordan trying to move the ball quickly,
trying to get things going. That gets him engaged in
the game even more so.

Speaker 19 (58:14):
Good for Jordan comes Rosnick center to this near side
the right to roll down. Sound is now finding as
Pete Feuing mentioned, a little bit of rhythm in their
game in the last five minutes or so is get here.
The twentieth minute nil nil Sounders Minnesota in Saint Paul
Minnesota Alliance Field, first round of the playoffs. The ball

(58:35):
gets clipped, it towards Jordan Morris and the ball bouncer
around and eventually cleaned up by Dane sint Clair. It
came off Mark Nick and not deemed to have passed
the ball back as it came off his combination of
his thigh in his chest and eventually picked up by
Dane sint Clair. As he mentioned, he's up for goalkeeper
of the Year this year. Is Dane Saint Clair, the

(58:55):
Canadian international and he's given up ten goals less and
the expected goals against, and that is second in MLS
in that particular category. So from the encyclopedia of data
that you get now from MLS, certainly is leading some
of those stats. First in save percentage, whatever that is.

Speaker 29 (59:17):
You tell me, Pete, I think that's the percentage of saves.

Speaker 19 (59:20):
Thank you, insightful, thank you. Here comes Resnik. Now can
he break things apart and get on the score? Sheheet
nil nil, sound as Minnesota.

Speaker 29 (59:31):
I'm gonna have to get back.

Speaker 19 (59:34):
I figured you might. I'll drop that one on you.
Some halftime home work for you, Pete. I'll ask you
the second half.

Speaker 29 (59:42):
There was no discussion of mouth before this game started.

Speaker 19 (59:47):
Here comes Resnik. Can he on his sounder? Is starting
at number ten? Here Ferrera now try to find no
way playing alongside each other. Of course, with Rosnack being
out for a period of time, Farrera stepped in that
number ten and played so well. He's really been a
great asset. In addition, for the sound is maybe a
slight different way than they thought, but here come the

(01:00:09):
sound is now little given go Here comes Roth on
top of the books. Just over he got a chance
to eighteen yards. It was a good flick by Morris
found the ruin of Rothrock in behind, good vision, try
to curl the ball into the far corner, goes over
goal kick Neil nil.

Speaker 30 (01:00:21):
What a great entry ball from Jamark and a little
one too quick one from Albert Rusnik Jordan Mourris with
a flick Paul Rothrock running off.

Speaker 29 (01:00:31):
That was picture perfect.

Speaker 30 (01:00:32):
That was Manchester City right there when they're playing at
their best. Rothrock just a little bit high to the
far post. Unfortunate.

Speaker 19 (01:00:39):
He wants that one back for sure, Rothrock de Bruyne
potato batata.

Speaker 29 (01:00:46):
Yes, we have Paul Rothrock.

Speaker 19 (01:00:49):
We do have Paul Rothrock. We do have Messy, but
we do have Paul Rock.

Speaker 30 (01:00:52):
But that was a terrific combination. What a great ball
from uh Gomez Androtti. That's two or three balls that
we've seen from our center backs.

Speaker 19 (01:01:03):
Referee, I think we'll just confirm that yellow card, sure
if it's pereer for maybe knocking the ball out long
one air potential. We'll get a confirmation on that in
just a moment. As we look down on a ticker
right here to see the stamps and yellow cards. The
ball gets launched by Dane Sinclair one well by rolled

(01:01:23):
on Jordan Morris isn't able to get their box or
steps sad picked up now by the sounds. This is
where they can go at speed in the middle of
the park, but a little loose on the ball by
Rozneck chased down of course by Christian Rolldan. So good,
of course to see so many players with strong grassroots
here in the Seattle area. Of course, the rolled On

(01:01:46):
brothers didn't grow up here, but both played the collegiate
ball in seattlu and you dub of course, Jordan Morris,
Mercer Island native Paul Rothrock, Seattle Jackson Reagan who wins
the header, another player that of course grew up in
the Seattle area, going way to college to Michigan coming
back after four years a little in common now to
have those collegiate players come back like roth Rock and

(01:02:08):
Reagan have and have such a impact in MLS.

Speaker 30 (01:02:14):
Well, it's interesting because US Federation has just come out
with how to improve college athletics, and Adrian Hannah is
on the committee, and I think it's because they're seeing that.

Speaker 29 (01:02:23):
I'm very proud of how Seattle has built their roster and.

Speaker 30 (01:02:26):
Done it with local guys coming through the academy, College
guys as well. Financially, it serves the team very well
because when they are young, it's not as much for
each of these players. So they're looking at how to
maybe improve the college game to prep more players, just
as college does for the NFL.

Speaker 19 (01:02:44):
YEP thirty second minute. Here in Saint Paul, Minnesota, nil
Sound is nil as score up that is presented by
Providence Swedish. Sound is now getting a bit more of
a grip of the game as they try and probe
try to find that opening goal. Of course, let's just
remind every first game of three in this series in
the first round it will go from this round to

(01:03:04):
the next round will be a single elimination. Highest seed
will host in these particular games. In the first round,
there's no overtime, so no fifty minutes of overtime or
two to fifty minute halves straight to penalties. There needs
to be a winner, no aggregate score, best of three.
Sounders as we mentioned last year one through on PKS

(01:03:27):
against Houston, Sounders love to get it done in ninety minutes,
but an awight team does have the chance to nick
a drawer and then win on a penalty shootout, and
Minnesota they will host. If it goes to three games,
the third game will be here. So next Monday evening

(01:03:49):
the Sounders will host the second game. Come what May,
seven thirty pm kickoff, and there's just a replay down
on our screen. That's what it was. It was a
little late on Christian role as long one it gets
that yellow card. Course was guilty of that wonderful chance.
We'll call it big time miss about six yards Jackson

(01:04:12):
regand just enough, just to give a little nudge. Vaar
did not take a look at it, thankfully for the Sounders.
Remains no one nil.

Speaker 30 (01:04:21):
You talk about penalty kicks, Saint Claire's good on penalty kicks.
He's aggressive, he's a little bit more like Andrew or
Andrew Thomas be come.

Speaker 19 (01:04:29):
The sound is resnak top of the box. When's the
ball takes the fraction just wide, it's gonna be a
corner kick. Eventually trickled over the end line. There's a
give up by Minnesota. Sounders able to pounce and he
was Rusnak fromout eighteen yards. Good defending in the end
by Minnesota and box al. It's gonna be a corner
kick on this right hand side.

Speaker 29 (01:04:48):
It's a pretty wide open game.

Speaker 30 (01:04:49):
Each team's had their opportunities with that deflection could have
gone our way.

Speaker 29 (01:04:54):
We're a little unlucky there.

Speaker 30 (01:04:55):
Going back to the penalty kicks with Saint Clair, he's
an aggressive He's like Andrew Thomas, is very athletic.

Speaker 29 (01:05:00):
He's done well on penalty kicks shootouts and he's confident.

Speaker 19 (01:05:04):
Three goals from one hundred and eighty ish corner kicks
for the Sounders. So can they execute here? Ball comes in,
tagged by Jackson Reagan. Well, ball bounces around, no foul
given by the referee, eventually comes off Jackson. He's got
to trickle towards Dane Sinclair. They're going into New York City.
Last week it was two out of one hundred and

(01:05:25):
seventy one, so not exactly prolific the Sounders from corner kicks,
but two offset piece as we mentioned, one being the
corner kick from Jackson Reagan. And if that is ending
to show for the playoffs, Sounders do have the firepower
to score from corner kicks. Now with Theemar back in
the lineup, he of course is forceful. He's already showing

(01:05:47):
that with a flicked header over he comes all done
chased down by Mark Nick, poked back towards Fry, who
launches it forward with his right foot, challenged up in
the air by Triantis, now rolled on heads it forward
to for as John Morris just runs into the back
of Ferrera. The ball gets pulled away by Roald Down

(01:06:08):
catches the leg of Long one. A right there, it's
gonna be a free kick four Minnesota. They've got some
big boys as well coming up for these free kicks
and Boxel Romero and Diaz. Pereer just have a nice
left foot, does the Argentinian man. Six goals and eleven
assists on his campaign Long one.

Speaker 29 (01:06:30):
He's a handful. He is fast as quick and he's
in the middle of everything. Very difficult to play.

Speaker 19 (01:06:35):
Again, powerful player. Three goals, two assists are not prolific
in terms of stats, but he's certainly shown himself already
so far in the absence of Yo Boa, who's their
talisman up front. Of course, the first game that Yeboa played,
if memory service, was against the Sound is where he
got two goals. It comes pere now just tucked him

(01:06:57):
from this left hand side with his left foot whipped
in from forty yards away from Stefron. Fry's goal gets
headed forward, run in two by box on Fry. Was
he easily able to grab it from but that header
and get here in the thirty seventh minute Sounders nil,
Minnesota nil. I think Brian schmittz A Pete will be

(01:07:18):
satisfied so far as he wait team in this first game.

Speaker 29 (01:07:21):
I think he will.

Speaker 30 (01:07:21):
He'll want he'll want goals from a couple of the
opportunities that they've had. But it's gone both directions. Fry's
had to cover two to his right that have gone
just wide, so each team's had their opportunity. I think
you'll want both sides offensively and defensively to tighten up
a little bit, a little more quality when we're in
the box, and a little more communication when we're in

(01:07:41):
the box.

Speaker 19 (01:07:43):
Well, this copyright you to audio costs of Major League
Soccer may not be retransmitted, to reproduced, or rebroadcast without
the express written consent of Major League Soccer or some
other results. Today Cincinnati one, Columbus nil. Nag Us, the
Columbus captain, announced his retirement at the end of this season.

(01:08:04):
Former Portland man, of course, Atlanta man incredible career in
MLS as Darlington Nagby for the US men's national team
as well. Of course, the ball gets launched forward by
Dane Sinclair one by oh Bed out to the far
side the right, picked up by Diaz who clips it
along towards the end line, towards box or who just
whips it in and off the shins of oh bet
it goes over the end line. It's going to be

(01:08:25):
a corner kick for Minnesota.

Speaker 30 (01:08:28):
Nabie as one of my favorite goals, edge of the
box cornerkick, pops it up first time on the volley,
pops it in the air, and then smashes it home.

Speaker 29 (01:08:36):
Yeah, he's had a tremendous career.

Speaker 19 (01:08:41):
Sound as dominating possession as you'd expect Minnesota right on
that forty mark as they have been all years. Sound
as past the fifty five percent mark of course that
Brian Schwetz always set for his team home or away,
as Pete Fong mentioned just earlier. But here comes Minnesota now,
flags flying ball comes in, goes long, flicks up in
the air, what was a back post ball, bounce around

(01:09:01):
the six, poke forward and collected by Stephan Fry off
the toe of long one ah sounds then to do
a great job at defending that corner kick, but eventually
was able to grab it and throw it out to
Rosneck on this near side.

Speaker 29 (01:09:13):
We've been a little bit loose. We've got to get
these balls out.

Speaker 30 (01:09:16):
This has happened a couple of times where you go,
I go, a little bit of confusion and we've been
fortunate not to give one up.

Speaker 19 (01:09:22):
Well, don't leave us half time, Jackson felt chance Fire
were be back to break everything down. Let's get here
the final six plus minutes of this first half and
then whatever the referee will add on. Not too much
to speak off so far, hasn't been anybody down for
medical staff or medical attention, no var corp, no subs.
So see the referee ans on. It can't be too

(01:09:42):
much as we get here in the final moments of
this first half in Saint Paul, Jemo has it back
in the lineup as you'd mentioned. Great to see for
all Sounders fans. Is he his presence back there, kim Key,
he is. We'll be back in short order. He's out
in the training field yesterday as he comes back from
in Ryan Kent. It's going to be a really good addition,

(01:10:03):
going to be the X factor in these final weeks
of the season joint playoffs. The ball goes towards Alex
Ordan towards the end line, and Romera just steps over
the ball, lets the ball go of the end line.
Could be a go kate for Minnesota five minutes ago
before halftime.

Speaker 30 (01:10:17):
No, No, Alex Horddan's been good both defensively right next
to his goal and getting himself forward, getting all the
way to the end line trying to get on the offensive. Then,
so I like when Brian, when Brian lets him come
inside and shoots himself forward, knew who stay stays home
a little more allows Alex to get himself forward. So
Alex has been having a good game.

Speaker 19 (01:10:38):
We'll spend like it matters by sporting bike, pok and
diverse owned businesses all year long. Visit intentionalist dot com
to find a business near you. As the ball gets
launched long by Dane sink clad free headed by Jackson
cushion headed towards Rothrock are playing on this right hand side.
Now as Ferrera shifts on that left hand side, picked
up by Lud inside the Sounders half for the fields

(01:10:59):
able to away from pressure, play it to Diaz far
side the right tucked in, plays it short in to
Triantis has been active in the middle areas of those
field to Rosales, ball inside to Loud, tries to turn
away from Jackson. Reagan picked up by Rosales on the ricochet,
finds it ten yards from the end line far side.
Minnesota's right ball goes into Trianta, skips by News strikes it.

(01:11:21):
Good save by Fry. It was a snapshot from a
tight angle, but Treanta has already shown a couple of
times his ability to strike the ball. Sounders now possess Fry.
Not a great clearest by Stephan Fry and then hooked
over the top by Perea. Sounders causing their own issues
again inside the defensive third of the field. But it's

(01:11:42):
gonna be a goal kick. It's gonna be nil nil.
Something to clean up for the Sounders in that second.

Speaker 30 (01:11:46):
For the second half, good reactions saving perries it wide
away from the goal. They've got two Minnesota players right
in front of Fry. If he doesn't push it where
it does, you could have a problem. Good for Steph,
we've been a little Lackaday's a goal inside our.

Speaker 8 (01:12:02):
Yeh.

Speaker 19 (01:12:02):
Four shots on goal for Minnesota out of seven sounds
I've had nine, only hit the target twice. Too much
to speak of in terms of saves for Dane Saint
Clair ball bounced around farside, challenged by Rothrock, lay in
the challenge by Rozars, but the fowl was already given

(01:12:23):
by a push from Rothrock on Diaz on the far
side for conversation beteen referee and Paul he backs away.
It's gonna be a free kick for Minnesota. So let's
give us a couple more playoff results from early part
of last week. Oh, this passed the last weekend Friday,
Miami three Nashville one. Big dominant performance by Miami. They're

(01:12:46):
going to try and make a run this year. Of
course last year top of the pile, and then shockingly
went out I think it was Atlanta in the early
stages of the playoffs. Sunday was Philadelphia to Chicago two,
Philly one, four to on penalties, Vancouver three Dallas nil.
So convincing performance by Vancouver, who have shown again how

(01:13:07):
strong defensively they are. Thomas Muller has been a great
addition both on and off the field. And then San
Diego gets a two to one win at home against
Portland and I'll go back to Portland for the second game.
So if the Sounders were able to get through this
game five verses four and all the top seeds win

(01:13:28):
above them when the Sounders will play San Diego on
the road. LFC played Wednesday against Austin Charlotte, New York tomorrow,
but here come the Sounders. Can they take care of
business tonight, take a one nill lead in the series
back home and ended all as we did last year

(01:13:49):
in two straight games. Whereznek has from the ball and
this near side the right just plays it inside to Obed,
drives forward, plays the ball into Alex who knocks in
back to Rosnick and then clips it all the way
towards Jackson Reagan confidently and over the top of Lud.
It goes and coflected by rolled On. Good calm, confident
play by the sound as they build from this near

(01:14:11):
side to the far side ball and the foot of
Christian rolled On rolls it across to Jackson Reagan. Eleven
men behind the ball for Minnesota. Two minutes to goo
of the forty five and whatever the referee adds on
nil nil sound as Minnesota in this first game of
the playoffs, can they make a breakthrough before halftime. It
comes oh bed to Rosnek on the right Channel's gonna

(01:14:34):
whip it in towards Rothrop making the run ball, bounce
it up towards rolled on top of the box, plays
it out to this right hand side again to Rousnick.
Ball inside square to roll on inside the eighteen towards
his left foot. Tries to drive it lot well by
Triantis and then pulled away by Mark Nick. He's gonna
knock it inside and a little clip forward towards Perea

(01:14:56):
and Jackson. Reagan just reads the ball well and then
just absorbs pressure by Pereire plays out well. Sound is
able to build in a triangle on this near side
the right, we.

Speaker 30 (01:15:05):
See about twenty five passes in a row from Seattle
and then a transition encounter from Minnesota. That is what
they want to do each time Seattle takes a couple
of minutes off the clock, like to get something more
of that.

Speaker 29 (01:15:18):
But it was a good opportunity for Seattle.

Speaker 19 (01:15:20):
Give away by the sound. Is Minnesota come again? Whether
it can be dangering the counter is lud right corner
of the box back on his left foot cuts it
towards the right to Rosales, out to Diaz and then
little loose on the ball by Rosales. Jordan Morrice can't
get there. He's been a little bit isolated at times
as Jordan up front can happen in a four to
two three one away from home, it's if you're patient,

(01:15:42):
hopefully the chance will come. It's Romero final thirty seconds
of the forty five. Sounders need to defend well. Go
in nice and tight to the half time break. Get
some directive from Brian the coaching staff as the ball
gets whipped in easily collected by Steff and Fry and
we'll look down see what the fourth official will add on.

(01:16:03):
But wherever you're headed, Discount Tire wants to get you
there safely. Shop for tires with Treadwell your personal tire
guide at Discount tire dot Com. Sounders have it left
hand side with roll down as being all over the
place again in this first half. It's good to see
he and Obed back in the mix one minute of

(01:16:25):
at a time. Just so we thought nothing much to
speak of in terms of stoppages in that first half.

Speaker 29 (01:16:31):
I think Brown will be happy that were zero zero
right now.

Speaker 30 (01:16:34):
I think it's time to step up a little bit,
try to get this win in the next forty five
minutes second half.

Speaker 19 (01:16:39):
There come the Sounders. Can they play and find a
goal headed forward by Rolldam and that's not gonna do it.
It's gonna go right into the hands of Dan Sinclair
as he jogs forward. Of course, to the Sounders. It
was a dominant record away two Minnesota across the course
of the MLS season twelve three and two record for

(01:17:03):
the Sounders in regular season play, but two of those
three wins came this year three two win at Luhman
and then a one nil win more recently here at
Alliance Field for Minnesota. But there's a referees. We're starts
to bring this first half to an end. KG affairs
you'd expect in the first game of the playoffs. But
the sound has had a couple of chances, as did Minnesota.

(01:17:24):
Peat fewing your final thoughts.

Speaker 30 (01:17:26):
You're right, cage is probably how I would describe it
as well. Each team had chances. For I had to
come up with a big save Saint Clair not too
many big saves, but we had some good service into
the box. So I think the second half it'll be uh.
I think both coaches Ramsey. I think we'll wish he
had the lead.

Speaker 29 (01:17:41):
I think Brian.

Speaker 30 (01:17:41):
Schmetzer is happy at the zero zero, but I think
they'll come out and clean things up for the second half.

Speaker 19 (01:17:47):
We'll take a short break, Jackson, and a chance we'll
be back to break it all down at halftime. Here
at Alliance Field, it's Minnesota nil, Sounders nil.

Speaker 3 (01:20:00):
Forty five minutes in the books. Here in the first
game of the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs.
Seattle nothing, Minnesota nothing. A feisty first half, a cage
at times, very open at times. A lot to talk
about there with the first forty five minutes. We'll quickly
mentioned first that Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Provident,
Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Also, we'll mention

(01:20:22):
that michelob Ultra is ninety five calories and two point
six grams of carbs. It's only worth it if you
enjoy it. Jackson Felton, chance for I here for the
halftime show.

Speaker 19 (01:20:30):
Chance.

Speaker 3 (01:20:30):
What did you make there of the first forty five minutes?

Speaker 5 (01:20:33):
Well, just like the boys said on the cast, it
it was back and forth. We had a great start
and then we kind of slowed down a little bit.
Minnesota had some very good chances, one player coming in
and Jackson giving him a little bump and slotted it wide.
But you know, both teams did okay. I think they
were a little bit nervous. It's the first game of

(01:20:54):
the playoffs, and nobody's really willing to just go for it.

Speaker 6 (01:20:57):
And I think we started off well.

Speaker 5 (01:21:00):
We need to play a little bit quicker, a little
bit faster when we're going forward before they can get
their self set up.

Speaker 19 (01:21:06):
You mentioned it.

Speaker 3 (01:21:06):
Let's go back to the ninth minute on that play
by Bongi Hung Jane, who has that big breakaway and
he has a one on one with Stephen fry Jackson.
Reagan's trailing after him. Reagan has an outstretched arm that
just takes lung Juana right, just a little off of
his balance and he scuffs the shot. I said he
got away with one. I think that is absolutely if

(01:21:28):
var looks at that, and if it's an added extra look,
that is a for sure penalty. So I think we
got away with one. What did you see there?

Speaker 6 (01:21:35):
Yeah, I think maybe he got away with it.

Speaker 5 (01:21:38):
But I was talking with Danny right at the end there,
and I think that whenever he was just about to shoot,
and as he gets touched, he's already leaning that way
to strike across to the far post, so his momentums
kind of take him that way anyway.

Speaker 3 (01:21:49):
Yeah, and then defensively the Sounders more than just that,
but just in general, it seems like there is a
few moments where communication has broken down, things that they
absolutely need to clean up here in the last forty
five minute.

Speaker 5 (01:22:00):
Yeah, no, absolutely, there were a couple of opportunities that
Minnesota had that we were just very sloppy, I mean,
be honest about it, and I think that we got
a little bit lucky.

Speaker 6 (01:22:09):
But I think on the other end, we played well.

Speaker 5 (01:22:13):
We had a couple of decent chances and just didn't
get really a great strike on it.

Speaker 6 (01:22:19):
And I think we'll get those chances again. I feel
like we're going to open up a little bit more
in the second half.

Speaker 3 (01:22:23):
Let's give you the Sounders bench. Let's talk about some

that's coparated audio cast of Major League Soccer and I'll
be retransmitted, reproduced or rebroadcast without the express written consent
of Major LYE Soccer. Let's take a look here at
the Sounders bench tonight. It includes the backup goalkeeper Andrew Thomas.

(01:26:06):
That could be an interesting question if we get closer
to penalties and the Sounders have an extra sub wood
Brian Schmitzer. Maybe probably not, but you never know. Also
on the bench Jonathan Bell, Kloni Coza, Rienzi Read Baker, Whiting,
Joel Paolo, Danny Lava, Georgie manongu Osazi de Rosario, and
the sixteen goal man himself, Danny Mazowski a chance in
a zero zero game right now. I'm wondering this strategy

(01:26:28):
from Schmitzer right now, given that the Sounders have was
it sixty two percent possession right now and given the
way they've played, who of that can help? And the
bigger question is when could those guys help here in
the second half.

Speaker 5 (01:26:41):
Yeah, there's plenty of firepower on the bench, but he's
not going to pull that trigger yet. He's gonna let
the team go after the half. I would say at
least probably ten, maybe fifteen minutes. But there's plenty of
guys that can come out. Georgie can take guys on,
Azazo can come on. Danny Masovsk obviously scored goals. But
in doing that, you can't just take three guys off

(01:27:03):
that are playing decent. Right now, Okay, we've got Jordan
going forward. I think he's still got a goal in him.

Speaker 6 (01:27:10):
I believe in him.

Speaker 5 (01:27:11):
I think he's going to get one, and we just
need to be a little bit sharper in the what
was it the twenty ninth minute when when Paul Rothrock
had that great chance. I was really impressed with that
entry pass that came in, nice little dink into Jordan Jordan,
little flick around the corner and a shop by Paul,
And yeah, we need a little bit more of that,
a little bit more quick passes going forward.

indeed happens. As the second half of this first game

Welcome back Sounders fans, Alien's fad here in Minnesota for
the first game of the first round of the twenty
twenty five MLS Playoffs between the Sounders and Minnesota United
nil mill at the half. Pretty uneventful first half in
some ways, but there was chances on both sides. Sounders
had a couple as mentioned boy Jackson and chance. Of course,

(01:31:20):
Minnesot's had a couple of chants as well from Sounders' mistakes.
I'm Denny Jackson alongside Pete Fewing here in the booth.
So Pete, as the team start to come out, let
me get your thoughts on that first half briefly, but
more importantly the second half of what did boy and
schmidtz to say to his men, Well.

Speaker 29 (01:31:34):
I think you nailed what the first half was. It
was just a bit uneventful.

Speaker 30 (01:31:37):
I think in the halftime, I think this is where
players like christ enold On, Stephen Fry, Albert Rusnik, they
step up and say, come on, we've got to get
something more out of this game. I think there's an
urgency for the players to not go to penalty kicks.
For the Seattle Sounders, again, I think they have a
veteran group that knows they're good, they're talented, they're experienced,

(01:31:57):
and they have an opportunity. They want to get another
true this season. That's been a theme ever since they
got the first one with earlier in the season, so
the League's Cup. So I think the older guys step.

Speaker 29 (01:32:09):
Up in this situation and say, come on, we got
to raise it.

Speaker 30 (01:32:11):
We've had nine days off for Obed and Christian even longer,
and so I think the second half you'll see a
bit of a lifted, elevated effort and quality.

Speaker 19 (01:32:22):
Well, Fryan Morris and Roll Dona all the top ten
for number of playoff appearances of active players, So the
Sounders have got the experience and with Jordan Morris back
on the score sheet last week, they have the top
goalscorer of active players in the MLS playoffs in Jordan Morris.
Reading some of the news coming out of Minnesota, they

(01:32:43):
keyed onto Jordan as being maybe a key player for
the Sounders getting him back in the starting lineup. Of course,
has missed significant time this season due to injury muscular
the first part of the season, a shoulder injury of
course that he picked up the required him to have surgery,
and then Brian Schmantz has slowly introduce him back to
that lineup. But for the Sounders, they're going to defend

(01:33:05):
the goal to our right, attack the goal to our left,
and Will Trap just knocks the ball out of bounds.
We've seen that so many times, Pete, we talked about
it before the game today. It feels like it's a
method that a lot of teams are doing. Paris enger Man,
the Lewis and Rique in essence started it off by
all counts about eighteen months ago. We first saw a
Club World Cup where they just launched it off the

(01:33:27):
goal kit, off the kickoff out of bounds and then
press high up the field.

Speaker 29 (01:33:31):
Yes, it's the new trend. It's the new thing to do,
so I find it a little bit funny.

Speaker 19 (01:33:37):
It comes Triantis, good step by yam or strong tackle right,
Prayer heads it forward Minnesota and they're all black kit
tonight attacking the goal to our right, Sounder's anniversary kit,
green shirts, blue shorts, White Sox attacking the goal to
our left for this first half. No changes for either
team coming out in this half, which is got to
double check that before we give you the lineup. But

(01:33:59):
for the Sounders there is no change for Brian Schmitz
as the ball gets launched Long picked up by long
Borne off his chest, now challenged by rolled on, giving
up a free kick. Not a great area for Sounders
and rolled on on that left hand side for Minnesota
far side. There left about thirty yards or so from
the end line. Good chance for Minnesota and Perea to

(01:34:20):
whip this ball in and the big men to get up.

Speaker 30 (01:34:23):
Yeah, you don't want to give away these fowls. This
is thirty yards out left hand side. Just allows Minnesota
to get numbers inside the box and unnecessary.

Speaker 29 (01:34:32):
That's the key right there too. Alex has him positionally
in the right spot. He's goal side, so no need
to foul at that moment.

Speaker 19 (01:34:41):
It's going to be a free kick for Perea. It
is the left foot. The Argentinian man you mentioned scored
a handful of goals in these last few weeks, scored
against the Galaxy last week and then the week before
against Sporting Kansas City now whips the ball in with
this left football, bounce around, headed away by jack and Reagan.
Good strong play by Jackson, but the balls picked up

(01:35:04):
by Treants whips the ball on that six and then
hacked away by Knew who on the near corner of
the six yard box goes over the top of Stephan
Fry's goal. Is gonna be a first corner kick for
this second half.

Speaker 30 (01:35:17):
This all starts with a fowl right A fowl unnecessary.
Now we've got a corner kick. It just allows Minnesota
more opportunities. We've dodged a few chances from Minnesota, and
you don't want to give a team like this too many.
You don't want to give any team in MLS too
many chances.

Speaker 19 (01:35:34):
It's gonna be a corner kick from their right hand side,
left foot of Peree. It's gonna whip this ball in
on top of Stephan Fry as the towels wave again,
the scarves wave again, as the ball gets whipped in
now towards the near post and at disappointing delivery by
Perere on a Minnesota standpoint. Great corner kick from a
Sounder standpoint.

Speaker 30 (01:35:51):
Absolutely gold kick the coal kick side netting. Yeah, that
was not a good corner kick for Perea at all.

Speaker 19 (01:35:59):
He's got a good left foot, does the Argentinian man.
As we mentioned six goals eleven assists on his campaign.
Two goals, nine assists in the last game against the
Sounders in August, so he's added onto It's piled onto
that in the last eight weeks of the season. As
the ball gets clipped forward by the Sounders, ball bouncing around,
then calmed down by roll Don as he rolls the

(01:36:19):
ball to this near side to Rothrock, He's going to
skip forward, try to get past Rosales and Diaz around
the corner. He goes well played by Rothrock, fights for
the ball, eventually gets it ten yards from the end line,
gets pushed over, no foul given by the referee and
knew who's going to go clattering in and eventually he's
calling a throw in or confusion. Rothrock on the ground,

(01:36:42):
pulls himself up. Knew who having a go of colst
doesn't need to do that. He's given away some silly
yellow cards and red cards of the course of the
second half of the season. These are calm down, dos Knew.
Who's not an inexperienced player anymore, Pete and sometimes he
he's just a move forward, get position.

Speaker 30 (01:37:00):
Yeah, and the last thing you want is you're outside
left back getting a yellow card. It just gives your
opponent a chance to go at him and try to
get him into the red card situation. Seattle's said a
few too many cards this season.

Speaker 19 (01:37:13):
Well, not fought by Yama. Four minutes into the second half.
We'll get the lineup in just a moment. It comes
loud as he clips the ball over Jackson Reagan. It's
going to be a throw in for the Sounders. So
Sounder's lineup for Barian Schmittz coming up for the second half.
No changes, frying goal rolled down, Yemar Reagan new who
are you back? Four obed alongside Christian in the center
of the park. Yesus, Albert Paul Rothrock are you attacking

(01:37:36):
three that sit behind Jordan Morris up front. Five goals
to assist on his campaign broken campaign somewhat by injury,
But is he going to find his best form for
the Sounders in these final critical stages of the season.
The ball gets clipped down the line. Here comes Jordan
now outpaces Diaz on the left hand side, sixteen yards
from the end line left channel. Tries to skip by

(01:37:58):
Diaz towards the enlighty go outside the right foot. Ball
bounces around nobody there. It's cleaned up by Mark and
Nick and then clips the ball on but poor clearance
by the Minnesota left back as the Sounders pick it up,
ball into Ferrara dropped off first time to Christian ros
Neck to his right. Ball goes into Ferrara, tries to
find Jordan Morris inside the eighteen yard box cleared by

(01:38:19):
a Minnesota A little loose on the pass picked up
by the Sounders and then Obed tries to bring it down.
Isn't able to do so. As a good ball down
the line and springs Long One a clear right corner
of the box. The Sounds retreat as Long one he
skips the ground and then plays it unnecessarily in some ways.

(01:38:40):
Just nobody there just kind of gave the ball away
and then Jackson sticks New and a bit of spot
of bother on this left hand side, but he's able
to knock it off. The Minnesota man goes over this
near sign for a Sounder's thrown.

Speaker 30 (01:38:51):
Terrific ball to break open for Seattle. Christian all done.
Jordan Morris's wide left gets goes and takes and we
all know that he's going to take him on, take
him on, goes to the end light. We've got to
get numbers through the box. We had Ferrara at the
near post, but that was it. We didn't have any trailers.
You want to see Albert Rusnak, he's done well to
get in for that cutback at the penalty spot.

Speaker 19 (01:39:12):
Long throw by Roth. Minnesota fans not appreciating the fact
that sound has just taking their foot on the ball,
taking their time, trying to manage the game somewhat. Of course,
the experience of the Sounders in these situations is way
above what Minnesota have. As you mentioned fourth position this year,
they're best finished as an MLS franchise. As the ball

(01:39:34):
is headed forward by New and then hooked forward by
rolled on. Once in a while, you have to clear
lines and the sounders can chase, and it's awkwardly cleared
by I think it's boxel brought down really well by
Rosales under pressure is able to skip down the line,
all down the line towards long one and the little
nudge in the bat by Yemar all goes down this

(01:39:57):
near side and we're just got to wait to see
if the referee gives up a foul on one A
it's on his response does not see the free kick.
Fans again up in arms. I think the players are
gonna surround the referee and it's a couple of times
now they're saying it's a push by Yama, it's outside
the box. But again it just a stronger body of Yama.

(01:40:17):
It's gonna be a thrown on this near side.

Speaker 29 (01:40:19):
I think Minnesota views it as he went through his back.

Speaker 30 (01:40:22):
It was we were going to say it's more shoulder
to shoulder, but Minnesota's gonna say it came through the
back of them.

Speaker 19 (01:40:28):
Yeah, we'll get you the line up for Minnesota in
just a moment. As the sound has come forward on
the far side the right with Yemar across the halfway line.
He goes in the foot of Alex Now he's just
for hugging the far touch line. Jordan Morris just working
through about three big center backs. He's got a lot
to contend with. Can he find some space in the
transition maybe where his best chance will come from. So

(01:40:51):
let's get you. Eric Rams' team coming out Sainclaaring Gold
Diaz box, Will Romero your central three. It's Rossultz on
the right, market Nick on the left, Triantis Trapp in
the middle, with lud Perea and long one A in front.
Eleven men behind the ball. Four Minnesota. That'll be very comfortable.
As we've mentioned, forty percent possession this season, the lowest

(01:41:14):
average of an MLS team in history. You can believe
that this is.

Speaker 30 (01:41:18):
What I remember from Minnesota right now. Now it's the
five across the back. They've shifted back into.

Speaker 29 (01:41:22):
Air, their old style that has worked for them and
worked against the sounder.

Speaker 19 (01:41:26):
Just amazing how it works out. It's bang on sixty
percent sounds possession. Paul goes in now, sounds have a
chance top of the box of Christian Well DoD strikes it.
It's a good save by Sinclair eighteen yards out on
the left foot, try to find the corner to Christian
and it was a flying save by Sinclair. Puts it
around the corner, over the end line, corner kick nil nil,
But good play by the sound is perfectly.

Speaker 30 (01:41:48):
Weighted ball from Albert Rusnik Sinclair. Good for him because
he was a little bit blocked on that shot by
the center back. Good reactionary said if Rothrock, I think
one of the ball as well.

Speaker 29 (01:42:03):
Good build up from Seattle.

Speaker 19 (01:42:05):
Third shot on goal for the Sounders, forced to save
Bonnie Sinclair corner kick. White foot ball goes down head
off the long line. He's asking for a handball, the
referees giving a foul maybe on the initial header by Yamar.
I think Jordan Morris is asking for the handball. He's
already called the foul. Not sure if you can review

(01:42:27):
that one with the foul given on a Sounders player,
unless it's so much evidence that it's not a foul,
then the argument of the handball off the goal line
from a Jordan Morris header, it's probably not gonna stand
and we'll see this replay.

Speaker 29 (01:42:42):
Hippie, I don't think it's on Yamar.

Speaker 30 (01:42:47):
Might be on Rothrock, Yeah, knocking a player to the ground,
knocking Boxel.

Speaker 29 (01:42:52):
To the ground.

Speaker 19 (01:42:53):
Eye you know, is going to be a lot stronger
than that, doesn't That's not much of a foul.

Speaker 30 (01:42:59):
It's certainly the amar rough rock clatters into Boxel, but
Boxell goes down very easily.

Speaker 19 (01:43:06):
It's gonna be a free kick launched forward by Sinclair,
well won by Christian Waldine, who continues to look so
dominant in the air at times. For such a for
a player of his stature and his fair shriff headers,
it's gonna be a foul. Things have heated in Minnesota.

Speaker 30 (01:43:23):
Things have heated up a bit, both especially for Seattle.
A couple of good opportunities in the run of play
and on the free kick.

Speaker 19 (01:43:30):
Yep, ten minute's gone in this second half, nil nil Minnesota,
Sounders Sports Radio nine to fifty k AM. Wherever you're
listening to us, we appreciate it. First round of the playoffs,
Sounders Minnesota in Saint Paul Alliance Field has been somewhat
of a fortress for them, but away from home as
they visit Sounders and Lumenfield next week next Monday at

(01:43:54):
seven thirty pm, that equally is strong away. The ball
goes in all bounces around and hooked clear and followed
clear by Yea Mars. The players get back in positions.
Ball clip Ford headed forward, Blood can't bring it down
or cushion headed by Jordan Morris. Now it's given back
to him by Rusnak. Here comes Jordan fart side the right,
across the halfway line. He goes, drops the shoulder. Perea

(01:44:16):
tries to pull him back. Jordan could have gone down,
but keeps going. Now surrounded by black shirts. It's clipped
towards obed to this near side to Rothrock, closed down
by Diaz, who comes out of his central position to
track Rothrock as he goes inside. Ball in the foot
of Christian out to this far side the right to
Alex Scott chance from ten yards which set in nobody there,
headed clear by Diaz. Top of the box is Knew

(01:44:38):
who twenty five yards, not getting closed down, but he
plays the ball short to Rothrock, left corner of the
eighteen yard box, tracked by Rosales, has to go back.
Nothing forward now Reagan to new who left hand side.
Sander's looking for an opening to test Saint Claire again.
They've already forced a good save out of the MLS
Goalkeeper of the Year candidate, most likely one of the

(01:44:59):
faith It's for sure. Can the Sounders eke out a
result whatever happens, we'll not go off the air until
as a winner will either be in the ninety minutes
or be to PK's or go straight to PKS if
it's a draw after ninety Sounders, as we mentioned, the
first half succeeded last year in penalty shootouts in the

(01:45:20):
first and second game, coming out victorious against Houston. It
was a nil nil, then it was a one to
one when they got the victories from PKS before moving
forward to play l EFC and eventually losing to the
champions of the Galaxy. The ball goes in right hand
side of the Eachen yard box. Ball back to o
Bed from Alex. Now outside of the eating yard box,
he goes. He has it, plays the ball in square, look,

(01:45:42):
give and go with Christian towards the end line is obed,
whips it in nobody there can't find a green shirt
put clear by Mark Nick. The ball bounces awkwardly for
Jackson and then his big six foot five frame just
beats long one a to it finds rolled on the
Sounders Pete fewing come.

Speaker 30 (01:45:58):
Again, Well, teams are playing the way they like to play.
Seattle possession, build up, try to break a team down.
And the width of the eighteen has five Minnesota players
dotted straight across it with three in front of them.
So each team's playing the way they like to play
into their strength. It's what put them in the playoffs.
See who can impose their will and do it the

(01:46:18):
way they want get some success out of it. So
Seattle is in a good spot right now, having good
possession of the ball, and we've been.

Speaker 29 (01:46:28):
In Minnesota's defensive third.

Speaker 30 (01:46:32):
Let's see where thirteen minutes in, we've been in their
defensive third for probably ten of those minutes. But you know,
when you play against a team that puts five at
the back end, you've got to get something out of it, right,
You've got to break them down. You've got to get
your shot, whether it's pull them out a little bit,
take your shots from the edge of the box, try
to slip it one.

Speaker 19 (01:46:50):
Two rolled down throws in long throw towards the corner
to six played by Minnesota's headed back by rolled on
tries to find a russneck cleared by a minute, so
it goes out the far side. We've already had a
save by Saint Clair number one in save percentage Pete
in MLS this year.

Speaker 29 (01:47:11):
Good for him, it's going to be number one in
save percentage.

Speaker 19 (01:47:16):
Yes, I'm assuming into your homework. Now we'll figure out
where that was.

Speaker 29 (01:47:21):
Thank you. We should have talked about.

Speaker 19 (01:47:23):
To set you up for that one. It come the
Sounders now with Vargas gets clipped right in front of
the referee. It's an easy call to make from the referee.
So it's gonna be a bit further out than we
initially thought. It felt like as we're twenty five and
now it's more like twenty eight thirty. But it's left
of center and a chance potentially to test sink Clair
from distance. But we'll see what the Sounders do here.

(01:47:47):
We'll see what Andy Rose has up his sleeve.

Speaker 30 (01:47:49):
So here's what I surmise, save percentage. You've faced a
lot of shots. You have had the most success of
any goalkeeper in that percentage.

Speaker 19 (01:48:01):
Yes, that's exactly what we'll take that. We'll take that.

Speaker 29 (01:48:06):
Hopefully chance Franking.

Speaker 19 (01:48:09):
He can break up the game. Yeah, he and Jackson, Yeah,
far more intelligent than we are. Yeah, Well it comes
in the Minnesota's wall, a three man wall, kind of
laughing at the distance of which the referee is lined
was sworn up. We'll see what Rosneck has Now, he's
got a good angle to whip it in with his
right foot. He's gonna be low and flat and just

(01:48:30):
try to bounce it in front of St. Claire here
as he steps up back four drops to the penalty spot.
Now they step up again. Now it's gonna be whipped
and he tries to go to the near post and
catch out Saint Clair, but it bangs off. Long one
a in the wall goes down this near side for
a throw in again.

Speaker 30 (01:48:47):
Long Wani is everywhere right, He's in every plate, covering
a lot of ground breaking things up, getting things started.

Speaker 19 (01:48:55):
Come the Sounders. No changes so far for the Sounders.
We get here in the sixtieth minute, nil nil sound Minnesota.

Speaker 2 (01:49:03):
Came.

Speaker 19 (01:49:03):
I mentioned a week from today will be the second
game at Loomin Field. I'll be the only game in
this first series for the Sounders. We hope there's going
to be the last game of the series if they
can find a way to sneak out a win here
and then go home and take care of business. You
know they'll have a lot of the ball next week
because they've had already this evening with sixty two percent possession.
Here comes for our and now I've got some time

(01:49:24):
to deliver the ball in doesn't go out, White stops.
It feels like when you've got that half yard to
whip the ball in, may need to do it if
you got a chance. As we get eleven men behind
the ball, but well played by Christian picks the ball
up on the right hand side, it rolls out to
brother Alex. Good delivery and rothrock head certainly goes wide
and referees calling a foul again. I think on roth
Rock ause you try to fight for space against Rosale,

(01:49:46):
it's going to be free kick for Minnesota. Neil nil
peep hearing well.

Speaker 29 (01:49:50):
I like the quality of the cross. We've just got
to make sure we get on the end of it.

Speaker 30 (01:49:54):
We got to get in front of our opponents, whether
it's the goalkeeper making that slashing runn of the New
York The one thing we haven't seen is getting right
to the end line slashing runs and then a trailing
run that has been successful for the Sounders. Albert Rousnook
in particular making that late run. So if we get
a little bit for a variety. When a team does
what they're doing, you can get lulled into just trying

(01:50:16):
to Okay, I'll get my cross in.

Speaker 29 (01:50:18):
I'll get my cross in.

Speaker 30 (01:50:18):
But there's so many numbers in the Minnesota box that
it makes it very difficult.

Speaker 19 (01:50:22):
From Seattle ball launch long trapped by Yea. Mark doesn't
take any chance. He just hooks it clear, good tests
of his hammy right there. Its picks up by Perea,
good track him by New just flyes the ground and
clears his lines. Maybe a chance to bring it down,
control the ball and pass it out, but that's not
New who no, no.

Speaker 29 (01:50:42):
He likes to.

Speaker 19 (01:50:44):
It's always a little bit dramatic with him out boot
it out. He's effective for sure. One of the still
on the best one v one defenders in MLS. Has
been a great servant for the club over two hundred
and fifty games. Of course, for the Sounders, it feels
like it's just crept up on us starting to coma
with the fiance. Raither one of those players it just
worked himself through the system.

Speaker 29 (01:51:05):
I remember one of the staff member seeing you should
look at.

Speaker 19 (01:51:07):
This guy for Seattle you long throw by boxhol near
corner of this six naars that man again Christian rolled
on and then just Roth Rochers doing a little bit
too much. They're getting caught with the ball as Morris
comes across, picked up by Triantis the right corner of
the eighteen flick forward by Perea, track well by Reagan
just needs to control the situation, doesn't do a great job.
Ball in cleared eventually by rolled on. It's been caught

(01:51:30):
a couple of times as Jackson just indecision in and
around that six yard box. Sounders get away with it.
This nearside the right is Rozales four Minnesota to Perey,
who's starting to get his foot in the ball and
dictate some things in the middle of the park just
to play the ball inside a track well by Christian.
You're not gonna catch out Christian there and eventually he
goes to ground. Is there an advantage, almost gets pulled

(01:51:51):
down by Morris, eventually gets pulled back or see if
it's on rolled or Morris, it's gonna be a yellow
card or cynical foul. Inside the sound is half of
the feet on Bouxail, so it's a little bit of
pressure on the New Zealander now as he plays against
Jordan Morris, is he just yanks down Jordan in the
middle of the park. Let go?

Speaker 7 (01:52:09):
But it was the.

Speaker 19 (01:52:12):
Thought that counts, as they say.

Speaker 29 (01:52:13):
Yeah, I think that was probably a smart play from boxall.

Speaker 30 (01:52:16):
We saw Jordan Morris a moment ago on the right
hand side, just shift gears and quickly go right past
one of the Minnesota defenders. So middle of the park,
slow it down, just as Obid did. But he did
a little too much against the yellow cart.

Speaker 19 (01:52:29):
I know Sound has been guilty that in years past,
where they haven't been cynical enough in the middle of
the park. I remember playing against Portland a number of
times and pauland get on those counters and we had
the chance to pull guys back inside out half of
the field. We didn't. We let them go and it
costs us. I know Brian Schmitzer pulled that up often
in his post game. They have to be more ruthless
and cynical, something that I think the Sounders learned from

(01:52:49):
in Club walk up with some of those kind of
dark hearts during against some of the top teams in Europe.
And it's the small things that count at times.

Speaker 29 (01:52:57):
I'd say obed learn that learned it as well as anybody. Yeah,
from that experience, it's.

Speaker 19 (01:53:02):
A good chance to play against those top teams at
such a young age. You can put that into his
toolbox and only something will help him in time. As
whips the ball in with that strong right foot, he's
a big right foot, does triants as he whips the
ball in clear by the Sounders, challenged by box all
against Marris wins the header headed forward by Rothrock Minnesota

(01:53:23):
to come away with it. So let's get you the
Sounder's bench, Belle Mussovski, Thomas and goll Joo, Paolo Reed, Baker, Whiting, Laver,
Georgie Kilaney, Ozaz So we've got some firepower coming off
the bench. Georgie will definitely be an option on the outside.
Labor can stabilize the middle. Of course, we've seen Red
come in on the outside as well if needed. Ozazi

(01:53:45):
had a great running League's Cup. As Yemar goes down,
has a stretch and I think we all kind of
hold our breath when he stretches for those balls with
those hamstrings that have caused me a couple of issues
this season.

Speaker 30 (01:54:01):
It looked a little awkward the way he went down.
You want to tell you Massovski fourteen goals. He can
come off the bench and I'm sure he would love
the opportunity to get back on the scoring sheet so
as ase as well as a dangerous player. I don't
think we've ever had two forwards on the bench who
can come in and score like these two.

Speaker 19 (01:54:22):
Both they've done it in different times when needed. You
mentioned Danny Masovski career year sixteen goals or competitions fourteen
in MLS. And it comes box on now long throwing
again as the scars wave against, the ball flicks around
just wide.

Speaker 7 (01:54:40):
That was.

Speaker 19 (01:54:42):
A nervous moment for the Sounders. It is wide. It
is a corner kick, came off the head. I think
it was a roll down. It's nil nil, A close
shave for the Sounders. Eventually came off. Actually, Alex says
Christy went up, missed the header and it came off
the head shoulder of Alex. But it's going to be

(01:55:02):
a corner kick on there on Minnesota's left hand side.
Peree is going to have it left foot. It's gonna
be an outswinger, one arm up in the air. Scarves
are waving in behind Sepron fries goals. The ball gets
looped in towards the backstick, headed down by Diaz, ball
bouncing around, eventually cleared on the slide by Roth Rockers.
The Green Shirts back up now defend as Results whips

(01:55:22):
a great ball to the backstick and Yemar goes up
and just flicks it over the top for another corner
kick on the left hand side. As the Minnesota A
crowd get up on their feet, they're feeling it right now.
As we said, set pieces for Minnesota, who are certainly
an area of their game that they've executed on well
this season. Throw in free kicks, corner kicks. The big

(01:55:45):
men are up.

Speaker 30 (01:55:45):
Well, it's cumulative, isn't it. You keep giving a team
more and more chances. It's making me nervous that they're
getting as many free kicks and opportunities as they're getting.
But the referee is very hands on with their every player.
In this corner kick, there's a little bit of scuffles.
He's trying to make sure no one's fouling anyone else. Oh,

(01:56:08):
there must be blood.

Speaker 19 (01:56:10):
There's a little bit of blood on boxall. He's having
to force him to come off, which here's the problem,
I think, and I could be fact checked here, but
because he has to go off without a concussion, he
has to be off for two minutes. That's the argument
right now. The referee's already said he has to go off.
Now he has to walk off for two minutes. We
had it with Kim Ky he when he went off
and we conceded a goal when he was on it

(01:56:31):
just weeks or months ago. Now, Doug Boxhall one of
the most dominant players in the air. He's gonna be
forced to go off unless he stays on the field
and the refee allows it to happen. But he's gonna
have to get treatment for a little cut on his forehead.
It's a little vasaline there to prevent the flow. And

(01:56:52):
the referee is going to have to make a decision
here is he classified as being off the field or
did he have treatment on the field. Either way it's treatment.
He has to go off. So there's two minutes and
the I think he and the Eric Ramsey, the head
coach of Minnesota, know exactly what's going on. For Brian
Schmittz is having a little chuckle right now. Been there,
done that. But the Sounders still have to defend this one.

(01:57:12):
Still some big players up there and markinich Romero and
Diaz ball gets whipped in over the topic goes it
was a head of one by Diaz just skimmed off
his head goes wide. It's got to be a goal
kick for the Sounders. As we hit the seventy minute mark,
Neil nil between Minnesota and the Sounders and Pete Few

(01:57:34):
and that was a little bit of frustration coming out
of the crowd right there, as Box will have to
come off.

Speaker 30 (01:57:40):
Well, I understand, and Box, all the good news is
you're back on for Minnesota right away, so they didn't
keep him to the two minutes.

Speaker 19 (01:57:47):
Which again I'm gonna yeah, I'm gonna ask you to
go check the rules at the end of the game,
because I don't think you can make your own decisions
here for the referee, I get.

Speaker 30 (01:57:57):
A senseless referees a bit that way from some of
the calls he's already made.

Speaker 29 (01:58:02):
I felt like there was a makeup call with Jordan Morris.

Speaker 19 (01:58:05):
I'm not I'm not going to admit I'm not primed
always on the on the rules. As knew, who does
a two footed tackle to win the ball.

Speaker 29 (01:58:12):
And passed two footed tackle and pass.

Speaker 19 (01:58:15):
He was a pass, there was not a tackle. It
comes new who now has the ball out to his left.

Speaker 29 (01:58:20):
That gives it away.

Speaker 19 (01:58:21):
Sloppy again. Here comes Rosales. Now he's going to try
and run out on Knew who down this right hand
side for Minnesota this near side and then tries to
play at square. Good tracking by Obed, picked up by
Paul rothtruck and then brought down by Rosales. See asking
for a yellow car. The referee is not given anything

(01:58:41):
right now. A couple of changes now Asanic Dotson fed
away kid, it's going to come on the thirty one
has missed a lots of the season due to injury.
And then Kelvin Yoboa, their main man been out for
the best part of a month. In a substitute appearance
last week. Now he's coming on and he's going to
be the player that's going to try and make things

(01:59:03):
happen up front. Sounders also prime to make a change
as well. We'll get you that change in just a moment.
Farrera off Mussovsky on. So this isn't an attacking move
by Brian Schmetzer. We'll see what he does here. If
it's going to be a two prong attack, unless I

(01:59:25):
missed Jordan Morris going off, we'll confirm, but nope, Morris
is on there and it's Mussovski Morris, two strikers, fourteen
goldman Mussovski alongside the all time leading goal scorer for
the Sounders in Morris.

Speaker 29 (01:59:38):
So I like that that's given Jordan Morris, Brian and you've.

Speaker 19 (01:59:43):
Got to give him credit because it's nil nil, not
chasing the game necessarily, but they're making an attacking move
here as Yemar just knocks off Pere who runs straight
into Himyema not appreciating that one, just blowing off the
referee and the players is asking for maybe something from
the referee. Sound As Half Possession with Jackson Reagan Well

(02:00:05):
sound as f CE Soaker is presented by Provident Swedish
official healthcare partner sound as FC Here come. The sounder
is middle of the partner. Now with Obed tries to
wriggle out of pressure. He gives it up, Will Trapp
wins it, plays it into Perey. Now back to trap
and then.

Speaker 3 (02:00:20):
Bar Guess wins.

Speaker 19 (02:00:21):
The ball gets barreled into by Perey. It's gonna be
a foul just on the halfway line. Good work back
by obed One lost the ball initially and then which
is way back in the foul sounders have it laying
out to a rosneck on this near side.

Speaker 5 (02:00:36):
Well.

Speaker 29 (02:00:37):
I like the move from Brian.

Speaker 30 (02:00:38):
It is aggressive and it's definitely putting going on to
the front foot, keeping both of them up higher. Danny
Massovski's right in the middle of the park. Jordan Morris
has gone wide right now where Ferrero was because it's
a good confidence builder for Jorde Morris from Brian Schweitzer.
It's an endorsement, right you're gonna I know you're coming
off injury, got to go in the last game.

Speaker 29 (02:00:58):
Let's keep you on.

Speaker 19 (02:00:59):
And it's playing right right now as Jordan maybe got
some flexibility to move around that outside. And of course
let's not forget it feels that Jordan Morris has been
playing up front for years and years and years, but
what's the majority of his career played out in this
left hand side in a four two three one with
Brian Schmitzer. Huge success in that position, so it's not
foreign for him to play on the outside and he's
just tucked in right now playing on that right hand side.

(02:01:20):
Right now, as Rothrock continues to play on this left
hand side, we'll see if they will shake out and
change over. And it comes to Rothrock eighteen yards from
the inline left channel closed down by Minnesota and long
one as he's playing on that right hand side now
as ye Boa has made up front, here comes Rothrock

(02:01:41):
clips it in towards the far post, headed away by Romero,
and he finds Yeimar on the far side. The Sounders
right to Alex to Jackson. Reagan just pinched up the
field now as eleven men behind the ball for Minnesota
and given it away by Obed little sloppily but nothing
forward and available for prey. As ye Boa makes to
run and Sounders win the ball good pressure and eventually

(02:02:03):
gets away. There's Perea. There's three green shirts surrounded him.
Won the ball. He fell to ground free Cape Minnesota
and they get it going quickly. He got some pace
now in this game, Pete feels like a playoff game.

Speaker 29 (02:02:13):
It does feel like a playoff game. This has been
a very quick half, sixteen minutes to go.

Speaker 30 (02:02:20):
With some stoppage time, but yeah, you can tell it's
been elevated by the subs coming in as well.

Speaker 19 (02:02:26):
No coach wants to maybe win this in the first
in the ninety I think both coaches want to win
this one. They don't want to go to penalties. But
here comes Dotson. All goes down the line and it's
picked up by the Sounders, with roll Don being all
over the park as he flicks it forward to Danny Mussoski,
good first touch away from pressure Roth asking for the
ball down the line standing there now now he stops

(02:02:47):
Musovski's runs into a little bit of a dead end there,
but somehow gets away with it, finds oh bet it
just flicks it through the legs of Triantis. Sounders have
possession far side the right now with Alex tucked in
from that right back spot, nothing wide has to go
inside to Russneck. Sounders have good possession of the ball

(02:03:08):
still as they continue to dominate possession again as you'd expect,
the balls flick down the line towards Morris making a
run five yards from the end line right hand side.
Flicks it back to Alex who goes inside to a
Rusnick pressure and the ball goes inside. It's trapped well
by Minnesota and Treants, but picked up by the sounders.
They fight for the ball, win it with obed Alex

(02:03:30):
on the far side, turns away from pressure, has to
go back, nothing forward. This copyrighted audio cast of Major
League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without
the express writ consent of Major League Soccer. So we've
given the subs out already. Pete. Surprisingness we talked about
is an aggressive move by Brian. What are the other

(02:03:52):
moves and cards he can play? Now? Georgie on the bench.
Of course he can come in the outside, but it's.

Speaker 30 (02:03:58):
Still nil will I think it's Georgie. I don't think
you changed the back four only there, you don't change
the middle of the park.

Speaker 29 (02:04:05):
I think Georgie. I don't think.

Speaker 30 (02:04:06):
Asaze could come in for Jordan Morris, but I think
he's already voted him Morris in for the full ninety minutes,
so I think the only other change is maybe Georgie
for Paul Rothrock, maybe Georgie for maybe for Morris, but
I think he keeps Moris on.

Speaker 19 (02:04:23):
So we got fourteen minutes left of the ninety straight
to penalties, and we'll get you. I'll get you a
question in a minute. Here comes Rothrock tries to clip
it around the corner away from long one eight double
team now by diaz Is. He goes flying in wins
the ball. Rothrock on the ground again already it comes
rolled on, tries to barrel into Triantis is looked athletic

(02:04:43):
and strong in the middle of the park as the Australians.
The ball gets whits to the far side and marketing
it from the fast. I can't keep it and it's
gonna be thrown for the sound. So let me ask
this question as a coach, when do you start thinking
about penalties and who you want on the field. We
have players on the bench who can take them. Of course,
Danny lavers not to take a good penalty a couple
of us, maybe JP with his experience. But if you

(02:05:04):
think about that, I think, when do you think about it?

Speaker 29 (02:05:06):
I think he says to Precky, figure out penalty kicks. Yeah, honestly,
I think you focus on the game both to the bat.

Speaker 19 (02:05:11):
Post will get to you in a second as the
ball flicks out to the far side.

Speaker 30 (02:05:14):
Yeah, you just say, Precky, get get as sorted out
for penalties and they know you know. Christian Alex Rous
Snack Reagan. Maybe Morris, he missed a PK recently, so.

Speaker 19 (02:05:24):
Maybe you've got your top goal scorer on there, and
he's always been lethal with penalties. It feels like talking
to the guy who's in Prentice as they built up
for some of these games that Marris look dynamite. I mean,
you've got five on there that are easy and yeah,
the roll down Brothers for sure. Reagan, yep, Reagan has
taken him in penalty shootouts as is Oh bad.

Speaker 29 (02:05:46):
Yeah, and then you're right Morris.

Speaker 30 (02:05:50):
Our old assistant coach Jeff Cook used to say, dance
with the one who brung you right.

Speaker 29 (02:05:54):
And Jordan Morris's leading goal scorer in this club.

Speaker 19 (02:05:57):
And so you're not gonna hot to better games and
party bet against Yeah, Well, the Sounders have the talent
in the field to still get it done. In ninety
minutes twelve minutes to go of the ninety Minnesota nil
Sounders nil. Sports Radio nine fifty am. We will not
be leaving you until we find a winner. We will
be through the ninety and then we'll be straight into penalties.

(02:06:18):
Sounders will come back into town tonight and then they'll
rest up and get ready for next Monday. For the
second game, and there's a number of games still going
on around the first round proper. We'll get to those surely.
Some of the results that have happened through the weekend,
and then the game's coming up. So mentioned Miami three

(02:06:39):
to one win against Nashville in their first game, Philadelphia
two Chicago two. Philadelphia win on penalties. Pocket picked on
oh bed, Who's had that a couple of times? But
it comes Yamar comes across, does a great job. Little
step by New who tries to wriggle free through four players,
eventually gets there. Didn't feel like he was going to
get there, but he does. And here he goes as

(02:06:59):
New who's striding forward, good tracking by long one eye,
is able to get out of trouble. Diaz knocks it
down the line, good pressure it Coross comes, roll downtreants
through the legs of Danny Massaska came back to help
Green Shirts back behind the ball. Now Perea has it
in his own half, then clips it firm right of
center to the far side. Minnesota's left Sounders deal with

(02:07:22):
it well. Russneck has it. Bit of pressure coming from
your Boro from behind. Sounders can calm the game down
as he mentioned the rate of greener back at home
at the Emerald Queen Casino Pitcher Luminfield to take on
Minnesota United in Round one Match two on Monday November
third at seven thirty pm Pacific. Watch the match via
the MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and
listen on KGr and l RA thirteen sixty am. The

(02:07:46):
Provident Swedish pre match show starts at seven point thirty.
Ball goes in to Morris right side of the eighteen
yard box, cuts inside towards his left foot, plays it
across a six and inside the six. It was Mussoski
from about three yards out. Dane sin Claike got in
the way. It goes over the end line for a
corner kick, kill edge chance for the Sounders. Dane sin

(02:08:08):
Claire comes up big, but Danny Massovsky really has to
show and score that goal. It goes agonizingly wide off
the save.

Speaker 30 (02:08:18):
Pete Fewing, Yeah, that almost made Brian she Better look
like a genus, putting Jordan Morris out wide.

Speaker 29 (02:08:23):
Danny Massowski makes the run.

Speaker 19 (02:08:24):
You can hardly believe it.

Speaker 29 (02:08:25):
Ken, Yeah, yeah, maybe if he just clips that to
the far post and.

Speaker 19 (02:08:28):
As you move Pete Paul Rothrock off Georgie on So
now combination Diaz long One has got a the nightmare
of dealing with Georgie in the last ten minutes of
the game.

Speaker 30 (02:08:41):
Well, he'll bring great energy and relentless pursuit down that line.

Speaker 19 (02:08:45):
He's also got Ryan Kentbrey over his shoulder. Now as
he comes back into full practice, we'll get a good
week of practicing ahead of next week's game. Or see
what happens. Anybody apprentice has seen him, He's looked very good.
George's got a chance to make a statement. Now is
the ball gets whipped in headed away by boxheil fluffed
by rolled On, then picked up by long One air

(02:09:06):
and then trapped back by Christian rolled On who gets
nudged into by box or Sounders still have it far
side the right with Rosneck has some times it'll whip
it intowards Morris, ball bounces around, comes off Dotson. Well
faint shout of a handball, but nothing there for the
referee as Georgie jumps in front of the goalkeeper launched
the ball along. Good play by new Who is he

(02:09:27):
fights with your boa We're asking him for a handball.
It's gonna be a thrown on this near side, right
in front of Eric Ramse, who's been up in his
technical area much of this second half. I'm not particularly
happy with some of the calls going against his team,
or calls not provided for by the referee. Jane comes on,

(02:09:48):
Will Trap comes off, and n Lys vet and Will tramp.
Of course it's Minnesota making some of those moves now
as they set themselves up this final ten minutes or
so of the game. I think the Sounders and Brian
Schmittz will most likely run out his main guys here

(02:10:11):
for the duration of this ninety minutes. They know there's
there's no added time, so there'll be a straight ninety
and then straight into penalties. But we've got eight minutes
left of the ninety. Sounders have to defend this free
kick with Peree on the right hand side. It's gonna
be his left foot. It's gonna swing this one in
Sounders holding up two yards outside of their eighteen. It
doesn't get swung and he drives it forward. That's a poor,

(02:10:32):
poor delivery. Goes on the outside all the way out
on the far side for a Sounders throw. Maybe he
thought it was a kickoff and I think if every
Ramsey was fired up after some of the refereeing decisions,
probably pulling his hair out of after that free.

Speaker 30 (02:10:43):
Kick, well boy, he just drove that from the right
side of the field one hop out of bounds to
the left hand side.

Speaker 29 (02:10:48):
Of the field.

Speaker 19 (02:10:49):
It looks like I passed you and I would make
these days. And that's slashing foul by Triantas. That has
to be yell a card and it is. Where hasn't
that picked the ball ab outside his eighteen yard box?
The sounder's bill and Treontas came flying in reckless challenge
on Rosna because he goes to ground tings a moment
or so just to compose himself. And it wasn't through

(02:11:09):
the back of him. It was more connection to his
foot on the follow through on the pass, but a
little reckless.

Speaker 30 (02:11:15):
Yeah, it looked worse in live. The replay didn't look
as nasty as or deliberate.

Speaker 29 (02:11:23):
Than the replay.

Speaker 19 (02:11:23):
So sounds that a freak kick, is you know what
I thought? Gingerly walks away.

Speaker 30 (02:11:29):
Do they say Rusta's gonna take one of the penalty kick, sol,
Let's give him something to think about.

Speaker 19 (02:11:33):
Yeah, exactly, it's you know, we'll just make me hobble
up there. Remember the ninety four World Cut when Roberto
Bagio and Franka Breze could barely walk up to the
spot and I think they both missed.

Speaker 29 (02:11:44):
If memory served, Bajio Skiddy had about that.

Speaker 19 (02:11:47):
I am string Frank a brazy mist as well.

Speaker 29 (02:11:50):
He had some quads razy.

Speaker 19 (02:11:52):
He was a hell of a play You think of
be an accountant if you saw him on the street.
That's not quite Virgil van Dijk. That's one of the
best players. I remember watching him as a kid and
how he just waited for the long ball and would
just nudge the forward away, drop win the ball, cushion
head him into his midfield as sound as step prayer

(02:12:13):
goes down. Sounders don't agree with it with a free kick,
but it's gonna be a free kick from Minnesota inside
their own defensive half. The field is more the follow
through by Oh Beed doesn't agree with it, but it's
gonna be free kick.

Speaker 30 (02:12:27):
Let's oft penalty kicks. I've heard Roman Tours now lives
in the Northwest. Nice to sign him for a ten
day contract as is right. You don't have to practice.
Is that how you could be our marsh On Lynz,
how you would do it as the head coach. No,
it's not how I would do just thinking out loud.

Speaker 19 (02:12:46):
What I appreciate about you.

Speaker 29 (02:12:48):
You got to think outside of the box.

Speaker 19 (02:12:50):
Here come the Sounders. Can they just see this one out?
Five minutes to go? But they want to try Nick
a goal if they can, don't go to penalties. Toss
of a coin is penalties.

Speaker 3 (02:12:58):
Of course.

Speaker 19 (02:12:58):
It sounds clear their line and it's going to be
a free kick for the Sounders inside their eighteen yard
box given by the referee. I think it's a off
side assistant referees flag on this near side goes up.

Speaker 29 (02:13:10):
It's been a fast second half, hasn't it. Four and
a half minutes to go.

Speaker 19 (02:13:15):
Let's give those final results coming out of Sunday and
then today. So Vancouver three nil winners against Dallas at home.
They go on the road to Texas to try and
finish things up there. San Diego win two one at home.
They go to Portland and try and finish up that
series out in Portland. And then Cincinnati, the big rivalry

(02:13:36):
game between Cincinnati and Columbus. One nil winner Cincinnati. The
ball goes out fast side, just have it touched by
Alex big deal over there, as the Minnesota have about
the halfway line in the hands of Mark Nick nine
goals in his season. Fantastic return for a left back.
Now the ball goes in here come Danny missovsk I.

(02:13:56):
Can you make up for that mess? Drops his shoulder,
his right foot, tries to cut the ball back and
now you just get his head down strike it. It's
cleared by Minnesota down line, it goes Minnesota play on
the far side oft Markinich goes down. Eventually referee gives
the foul. Maybe it was the care he should have made,
but it took an age for him to make it.
Final four minutes of ninety Here.

Speaker 30 (02:14:19):
Masaski has a nose for the goal. He looks dangerous
when he's running at Minnesota. He looked dangerous making the
run through the box. Unfortunately hit it right at Saint Clair.
If we can get him service running at the goal
or getting through the box, we have a great opportunity
with him.

Speaker 19 (02:14:37):
You have sixteen goals, sixteen goals all comps fourteen in
MLS and fascinating how you can keep your top goal
scorer fourteen goals on the bench. But he's got a chance.
Now he's had a chance from two yards. It wasn't
for the hip of Saint Clair and that save he
made from point blank range. The ball goes in cleared
with the right foot of Jackson. Reagan headed back up

(02:14:59):
in the air, top eighteen yard box, challenged by Yemar
against Kelvin Yeboa, the number nine. As the ball goes
out far aside for a throwing for Minnesota and here
comes Boxel Brayer just leaves it for him and it's
nineteen eighties English style football brought in by Eric Ramsey.
But he gets the results, Neil nil, three minutes to go,

(02:15:22):
first round of the playoffs, first game here in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Sounder's looking try and defend this long throwing as the
scarves and towels wave around this stadium. As the ball
goes in, ball bounces around, it's flicked up. Christian Waldon's
asking him for a foul. It's gonna be a corner
kick given we'll just see what Christian Roldan does not agree.

Speaker 30 (02:15:44):
With the call at all, and he's pushed in the back,
went straight down to the round, hitting the hinner with
his chest on the under the carpet, So yeah, Christian
definitely thinks he was felled.

Speaker 19 (02:16:00):
I want to kick four Minnesota. It's gonna be pereer
far side, the left outswinger with his left foot. It's
be looped up to the penalty spot, headed away by
Jackson dominant in the air. Again. It's just a silly
foul from Georgie. Didn't need to make the foul twenty
five yards from gold dead at center, and this is

(02:16:21):
the chance to Minnesota, maybe even looking forth from the
set piece, and there was just a clip of the
heels on long one a just a little reckless by Georgie.
It's gonna be a chance for Minnesota now from about
twenty five twenty eight yards.

Speaker 29 (02:16:36):
You got to learn from these, right, You cannot make
these kind of fowls that close to goal. Just stand
them up a little bit of patience.

Speaker 19 (02:16:46):
There was a tiet fair here back in August one
nil to Minnesota in the second of the regular season games.
Sounds missing the dps in that game. If memory serves now,
Trianta has already shown that he's got a hammer of
a right foot struck a ball just a couple of
inches wide of Seffron Fry's goal. So can Steph make

(02:17:10):
it big again. It's made so many saves in critical moments.
But it's gonna be a free kick just right of
center when the right foot of Triantis. Perea is still
there as well, But based on the body language of Prayer,
it doesn't look like he's gonna be the one. But
he's gonna set the ball up. We'll see if he'll
be Perea. Then Usually the player who sets up the

(02:17:30):
ball player's going to strike it. But Prent Triantis looks
like he's ready it comes, Pereer steps up. It's gonna
be the left foot of Prayer just wide. For a
moment I thought it was in. We'll try and see
a replay and see how close that was. It's gonna
be a goal kick sound as we're in the final
seconds of the ninety nil nil. But that looked like

(02:17:51):
he was heading in the top corner.

Speaker 30 (02:17:55):
That was a terrific strike. That was maybe one foot out.
Fry seemed to get over there is a little bit
high for his reach. Terrific strike. Again, This is why
you do not want to give up a foul this
late in the game. Get your body goal side, don't dive.

Speaker 19 (02:18:11):
In if you had Roy Keene on the field, he'd
grab Georgie by the scruff of necket on the field
or in the locker room, I'd pin him up after
that foul, I.

Speaker 29 (02:18:19):
Think, which would teach him a valuable lesson.

Speaker 19 (02:18:22):
Pull down the lord and here comes Morris, kind of
sound as niked at the death, strikes across the six
doors ahead, point blank range. Again it goes over by
Massovski felt like it was harder to missing score. It's
four minutes of at a time, we're inside the at
a time that could have been it for the Sounders.
There's gonna be a goal kicks nil nil.

Speaker 30 (02:18:42):
Great ball down the right hand side, terrific cross, just
a little deflection.

Speaker 29 (02:18:49):
Off the defender, but oh he just.

Speaker 19 (02:18:51):
Had to guide it in. Yeah, six shots out. Almost
just pulled himself away from it instead of getting over
and attacking it.

Speaker 29 (02:18:58):
But yeah yy ay, yeah yi.

Speaker 30 (02:19:01):
Great ball from Jordan Morris, another one, Another great service
from Jordan to Massovsky.

Speaker 29 (02:19:07):
There's time for one more.

Speaker 19 (02:19:09):
Or gets flicked forward. Can Masoski make up for the
two misses he's had? Here goes Win's the ball, leave it,
Georgia leave it off side, ball goes over the top
it goes wide, but I think it's about five yards
off side. Georgia maybe just should have left that one.

Speaker 29 (02:19:25):
Yeah, I don't know, yes, yeah, George, Yeah yeah.

Speaker 30 (02:19:30):
And that's that's a moment where Missos's got to scream
at him to get out of the way, and then
we have a good opportunity for Danny to go in
one on one.

Speaker 19 (02:19:39):
Two and a half minutes left, Danny Leavitt coming on.
Here's a move for the penalties. It's a tough spot
to come in when it's cold. You come in the expectations.
You gotta take one of the five. Now, got to
think about that. Yeah, all gets lost on but the
sound is stuff work to do defensively? Is the ball
bounced around far side Minnesota's left sound has come back
to defend top of the eighteen yard box ball ounces,

(02:20:00):
we're pushing the back by Perea on rolled on. He's
just clinging his face right now, refere He's just gonna
hold things up. It looks like to be a yellow
card in there. Roldan holds his throat. We'll see if
anything else is going to come of that with VR,
but right now it's the yellow card for Perea. He
goes down to the ground, so he pushes Yema at

(02:20:23):
the way and there's a elbow straight to the next
So we'll see if var looks at that and thinks
it's cynical. It wasn't leading elbow. I've got to say, Pete,
you look at the replay. You tell me.

Speaker 29 (02:20:35):
He definitely saw Alex coming, definitely got the elbow up.
The question is did he extend it?

Speaker 19 (02:20:42):
But of course he goes down. He's injured now, so
so we'll see what change that will make for Brian.
Prayer's going to see this one out. I don't think
he's gonna want to come off because it's two minutes
to be come off, and I'm gonna double check my
my rules here because So came off and it didn't
feel like two minutes at all.

Speaker 29 (02:21:05):
He came right back on.

Speaker 19 (02:21:06):
He came right back on. So minute left of the four.
We're heading towards penalties. Danny Laver is on, Oh Bet
is off, surprising Pete. O Bett has been there to
take penalties in the past.

Speaker 29 (02:21:19):
You know what, the team has a lot of confidence.

Speaker 30 (02:21:22):
The players always talk about how well Danny Labor strikes
a free kick.

Speaker 19 (02:21:26):
So ball down the line, Here comes more his final
chance for the Sounders. Can they make it? Cuts it
back top of the box. Here's Georgie strikes it. Oh,
it's a great block. It's a wonderful block by a
combination of long one, ADAZM, boxel and Georgie. It felt
like the the spotlight was there for him. It was
opening up. He stepped in well, struck it well. It

(02:21:50):
goes over the top. Corner kick and this most likely
will be the final play of this game. Can the
Sounders take advantage? Final play? As we tick towards the
four minute mark, and whatever the referee adds on on
top of the four, it's gonna be Rusnak far side
the right. It's gonna whip it in towards the near stick.
Ball bounced around. Reagan's gonna knock it back to Alex.

(02:22:10):
He's gonna put his foot on the ball, plays the
ball into it. Brother Christian, look give and go with
Ruznak off the shins of Mark Nick it goes. Actually
it's Pere who's still hobbling around. Chransfer rolled on now
to launch it in from a long throw. Can the
Sounders do it again? I remember was that the galaxy
a couple of years ago. Is a flick onto Christian

(02:22:31):
roll down to solidify the Sounders playoff spot at lumin Field.
I think that came off from a long throw from
Alex on the same side and his right. He's gonna
step in and he's gonna launch it. Long ball comes
in now towards Jackson Ball bouncing around. Christian knocks it in,
challenged by Jackson Ball, bounce you around, It's missed, and

(02:22:51):
then skips up and the referee it's gonna call the
fowl on box all. Jordan goes down. That doesn't look
too good. Maybe it's more it's a knocking a twist
versus anything more serious. But it's going to take a
moment just to compose himself. It's a free kick for Minnesota.
We're at the five minute mark. It's gonna be a
final change for Minnesota as they make their move now

(02:23:14):
as well. It's gonna be DA's the big left footed
central defender for Julian gressel So, a player who's got
a ton of experience, bleached blonde hair, jogs on the field.
Former Atlanta Man of course, Vancouver, Miami, Columbus DC. He
kind of lost his way a little bit over the
last few years, but he's gonna come on now. I'm

(02:23:36):
most likely lined up for a penalty as Jordan Morrice
hobbles away. It's not gonna bow too well for Brian
Schmittz who he's trying to pick his five. So we'll
look at this five and the referees whistle goes, So
we're not gonna leave you right now. The players will
go back, they'll get some fluids, they'll get some wrests,
they'll shake out their legs. It straight to PK. So

(02:24:00):
the first game of the first round of the MLS playoffs,
nil nil after ninety and we go to penalties. Last
year this time first game nil nil against Houston Sounders
one on penalties. Again. I'm gonna have memory here, twelve
out of I think it was six out of six
if I remember credit because think it was twelve. Maybe

(02:24:20):
it was five and then a seven. But he was
twelve out of twelve between those two penalty shoots out.
So the confidence is there for the Sounders and Ken
Stephen Fry. As Andrew Thomas has done so many times
in League's Cup and US Open Cup, can he be
the hero from the penalty spot? Well, let's get your
thoughts about the game in general p before we jump

(02:24:40):
into the penalties and strategy and players. What's brance Schmetza
made it his ninety well.

Speaker 30 (02:24:45):
The first forty five minutes each team was feeling the
other team out, trying to find their way. Second half
elevated for both teams. Seattle Brian Schmetzer made some terrific subs,
pushing Jordan wide, bringing in massofse He had created three opportunities.

Speaker 29 (02:25:00):
Shortan had three trific crosses, two.

Speaker 30 (02:25:01):
To Morris, one on the cutback to Georgie Manoono just
didn't get there quite quick enough. So that is tough
when you get good quality chances that you don't put away.
Now we're back to square one on penalty kicks. I'll
tell you again, Saint Clair for me, he has an
arrogance about him. Positively, I'm saying that positively when it

(02:25:24):
comes to penalty kicks.

Speaker 29 (02:25:25):
He's a bit brash.

Speaker 27 (02:25:26):
Uh.

Speaker 29 (02:25:27):
He's athletic. So Seattle needs.

Speaker 30 (02:25:30):
To get off to a good start with the pks
meaning don't miss right and if Stefan Fry can get one,
to put the pressure on him.

Speaker 19 (02:25:38):
Okay, So I'm gonna test you now on this okay,
five penalty takes the first five. As we look at
our as we look at our lineup here at Pete,
who are you going to take? If you were the
coach right now and every play wanted to take one,
who's your five?

Speaker 29 (02:25:57):
Well, yeah, let me get back to my microphone.

Speaker 30 (02:26:00):
Jackson, Reagan, Danny Label, obviously, Christian and Alex and then
number five.

Speaker 29 (02:26:07):
I think you asked, Jordan, are you okay? Do you
want it? Albert Rusnik? Yeah, so he's got So.

Speaker 19 (02:26:13):
You've got six obvious ye at the gates. Dana Massosi,
your top man got to be up there as well,
but probably not a part of your top five. I
would say that that we could play process of elimination
new who's not in your top five?

Speaker 6 (02:26:27):
Correct?

Speaker 19 (02:26:28):
Yamar's not in your top five. Georgie is not in
your top five, obviously, Steph. So if the rest of
the players, of the rest of the seven could.

Speaker 30 (02:26:36):
Be any five of those, yeah, and I'd say Massovski's
probably not taking one, seventh, maybe the seventh.

Speaker 19 (02:26:43):
Yeah, Well, we really lined up.

Speaker 30 (02:26:45):
We know Albert, we know Alex, we know Jackson. Labor
seems to be the reason they subdim in. So I
would assume that Christian Morris or.

Speaker 19 (02:27:00):
We'll find out it's gonna happen right now. As the
Sounders players and the Minnesota players make their way to
the center of the park, Saint Clair and Fry have
already made their way to their respective positions. So do
you go first or second?

Speaker 29 (02:27:17):
First?

Speaker 19 (02:27:17):
Yep? Put the pressure on the other team. So you
win the toss, you get to choose, and the Sounders
will go first. Saint Clair's in the goal is just
marching in a big body of Saint Clair's gotta be imposing,
standing and is all yellow kit and it's gonna be
Albert Rossneck's gonna be a first man up. So Albert

(02:27:40):
will step up, of course, one of the prime penalty
takers for the Sounders eleven goals on his season. Of course,
one of that goal against Let it come Madrid as well.
But here comes rusnak Now four steps away, some short
steps steps up, strike sit right down the middle. Saint

(02:28:02):
Claire went to his right, confident penalty, just clipped it
down the middle. Well, noil Sounders.

Speaker 29 (02:28:07):
That's why you go first.

Speaker 19 (02:28:08):
You go in and you silence the crowd.

Speaker 30 (02:28:11):
Yep, yep, silence the crowd. Send a good message. It's
a terrific ball right down the middle. Get you off
to a good start.

Speaker 19 (02:28:20):
Sounders on the board first with Albert Rozneck. Now Minnesota
got the pressure at home to step up and make
one happen. It's gonna be your Boa. Their main man
as well, he's gonna step up. It's gonna be your Ba.

(02:28:43):
With his right foot step and Fry all in pink
tonight standing on his goal line. Your Boa standing right
next to the ball. The referee blows a whistle. Now
as you take one, two, three, four, five steps back,
sets himself up, does your Boa. Nine goals on his season,
arms by his side, Silence across this packed house at

(02:29:04):
Alliance Field. He steps up, takes a step and then
rolls into the corner. Confidently. Fry went to his right,
ball went to his left. In the corner, it goes
one one.

Speaker 30 (02:29:14):
It's a very good finished, confident neither neither goalkeeper really
had a chance on either one. Two good penalty kicks.

Speaker 29 (02:29:24):
Now had had Fray gone the right way, it wasn't
right in the corner. Two feet off the post.

Speaker 19 (02:29:30):
It comes Alex rolled down, another confident penalty taker throughout
his time at the Sounders, of course, scored that penalty
in the league's cup final. That second goal all but tied.
Wrap things up. As Sinclair comes off his goal line,
just forcing the referee to kind of question the placement

(02:29:50):
of the ball. Alex just drop head head games right.
There was slightly off the mark and now all Alex
wants to do is wrap this one into the back
of that as Saint Clair moves on the line straight
down the middle. It's a poor penalty from Alex. Confident
by Saint Clairy just stood there, waited. The boy went

(02:30:10):
down the middle, just hit Saint Clair and that's a
miss for the Sounders.

Speaker 30 (02:30:16):
And he's pointing to his head, meaning he just got
in Alex's head by making them move the ball. These
penalty kicks, there's a lot of psychology, a lot of
mental battles.

Speaker 2 (02:30:31):
There.

Speaker 19 (02:30:31):
It comes Triantis. He has a powerful right foot, as
he mentioned. We sawt a couple of times in that
ninety minutes. Now the Australian U twenty two initiative player
two goals in his campaign. He's got a chance now
to step up and put Minnesota in the lead. Silence
goes across the crowd again. Stut To step by Triantis

(02:30:52):
and he goes right in the corner. Really good, confident
penalty Fry went the right way, couldn't quite get there,
buried into the side netting to one. Minnesota well struck
three feet off the ground.

Speaker 29 (02:31:04):
It was some good pace. Probably does go the right way,
but that's tucked right next to the post.

Speaker 19 (02:31:15):
So Minnesota lee two goals to one. Third penalty coming up.
We'll see if Saint Clair will now trying to get
in the head of Jackson Reagan, who's been so confident
in his penalty kicks, where if you're just standing over
Jackson making sure his spot is right. Got a goal

(02:31:36):
last week, of course in New York. Can he get
a goal here for the Sounders. Takes a step up slowly,
but surely that wraps it in the corners. Come as
you like, Jackson Reagan. Crowd goes hush, Boll finds the corner.
Sounders get the second to to two. With Minnesota coming

(02:31:56):
up for their third penalty kick, a.

Speaker 30 (02:31:59):
Little hot step cool as can be, points right at Steph.
Come on, Steph, let's get it.

Speaker 29 (02:32:09):
Makes him.

Speaker 6 (02:32:09):
Claire go to his left.

Speaker 19 (02:32:10):
Steph on the right way last time. Now it's Perea
so I'm gonna started putting their top three guys up
early with Yoboa, Triantis and Perea. As he gets taught
to put the ball on the spot because that mays
maybe an indentation on that penalty spot. It's causing the
player some bother his Peree with his left foot four
steps away, hands on his hips, takes a step forward.

(02:32:34):
Fry goes to it the right way again, I can't
quite get there's Pereer wraps his left foot around it
and it founds the corner just away from the outstretched
arm of Fry. Three to two Minnesota.

Speaker 30 (02:32:50):
This one four or five feet off the ground, really
well hit, bending away from Fry the lefty.

Speaker 29 (02:32:57):
The pace of that ball it takes at the back
of the net. Tough one for stuff.

Speaker 19 (02:33:05):
Sounders got two penalties left, so to Minnesota. It's three
to two Minnesota.

Speaker 15 (02:33:13):
Now.

Speaker 19 (02:33:13):
The onus now is on the Sounders to have to
make a save and demanded their players to score. It's
gonna be Christian rolled on from the penalty spot, takes
her breath, a couple of slow steps, strikes it off
the crossbar, an out and a miss for the Sounders.

(02:33:34):
A Minnesota have two chances to score now to win
the game, and the Sounders in the back of Unfortunately
for the two rolled on brothers have missed. There was
a head down strike been lower by about three inches,
have been perfect. Or rattles off the crossbar and it's

(02:33:55):
a miss, and it was heading right for that top corner.
But now Julian gressols, this is my his first touch
of the game. He came on just before the end
of the game. Can he wrap things up for Minnesota?
Steps up? Can step and Fry make and he misses.

Speaker 31 (02:34:10):
Crowd just groans and he misses lifeline for the Sounders.

Speaker 19 (02:34:14):
He sent Fry the wrong way and the Sounders have
a lifeline. Minnesota lead three goals to two, one penalty
left each. Sounders need to score.

Speaker 29 (02:34:27):
Straight off the post. Fry went the other way. Got
a little luck on this one.

Speaker 19 (02:34:37):
So three to two Minnesota, one penalty left each. The
sound Is have to score. If they don't score, the
game ends Minnesota win. It's Danny Lavor just like gress
Or came on right before the end of that game.
And Danny Laby likes to usually take a step to
his left and kind of arc his run. Here he
goes just takes a couple of steps to his left

(02:34:59):
now and moves forward. Saint Claire in his line. Missus
off the posts. He sent Sinclair the wrong way because
he kisses the posts.

Speaker 31 (02:35:10):
Minnesota celebrate, and on penalties in this first game of
the MLS playoffs, the Sounders go down, losing three goals
to two miss three penalties in those penalty shoots out
from Pete Fewing, No, the worst way to lose than
on penalties away from home.

Speaker 30 (02:35:31):
No, especially away from home, as you say, And with
three chances at the end, two for Masowski won for Georgie.
There's gonna be some disappointment in that locker room and
some frustration because Seattle did well at the end to
create quality opportunities, just didn't put it away.

Speaker 29 (02:35:47):
And then you go to penalty kicks you gotta get.
You gotta give sink Claire good credit.

Speaker 30 (02:35:51):
Every single time Seattle took a penalty, he's arguing with referee,
just trying to get in the players heads a little bit.
And then the post post made resaves today, Saint Clair
made one.

Speaker 19 (02:36:03):
So your thoughts about the game in general before we
head back next week to Seattle.

Speaker 30 (02:36:08):
Well, I think Seattle can be pleased about the effort, right,
we always bring out the effort, but I think they're
gonna have to say, we've got to be a little
more clinically clinical on our crossing, finishing, our slashing runs
through the box. Need to be better getting in front
of a goalkeeper, getting in front of the fender, getting
to the cutback spot. And then when you get chances again,

(02:36:29):
you've got to put them away. So they're going to
see that five back line for sure when they come
to Seattle.

Speaker 29 (02:36:37):
So Seattle's got to figure out a way to unlock
that back five.

Speaker 2 (02:36:41):
Well.

Speaker 19 (02:36:41):
Thanks for everyone involved in today's broadcast and as hers

Speaker 19 (02:41:19):
Losses are not fun.

Speaker 3 (02:41:21):
Losses in the playoffs are even worse, and penalty kick
losses in the playoffs are the worst. And that is
what we have here tonight, folks, a penalty kick loss
here in game one, round one of the playoffs. It's
still at best of three. Game two will be next
Monday night at lumen Field at seven fifty five kickoff

(02:41:43):
seven to thirty pre game, So that will be next
Monday for Game two that is a actual must win
or the season is over for your Sounders, because tonight
it is a penalty kick loss. It was zero zero
after an exciting ninety minutes, a lot to discuss, and
then in penalty kicks you had Alex Roldan go right

(02:42:04):
down the middle, Dane Saint Clair saves it, Christian Rolldon
goes off the bar, and then Danny Leva misses as well,
and Minnesota wins in penalties three to two to take
game one. We welcome you to the postgame show Jackson
Felt's chance for I here on nine to fifty KJR
am chance. Just where's the mind at? Is the mind
right now? At the chances for Danny mczoski down the stretch?

(02:42:27):
Is the mind at three penalty kick misses there of
the five that the Sounders took. Where's your head at
right now?

Speaker 5 (02:42:34):
I think in this for this game, they just need
to get it out of their mind as quickly as possible,
get on the plane and get home and regroup.

Speaker 6 (02:42:42):
And now it's a two game, you know, serious? Well,
where forget about it?

Speaker 7 (02:42:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:42:45):
Where's for you?

Speaker 15 (02:42:46):
Like?

Speaker 3 (02:42:46):
Where where is right now? Because me the first thing
we said after we hit the off button and we
went to commercial break was moose because I mean ninety
first minute Jordan Morris two accept crosses on the right side,
and the second one in the ninety first minute goes
right to Mazowski in front of goal and if you

(02:43:07):
just head it down, it's into the back of the
net and you get the very very end winner. But
he couldn't any there was an earlier one too for move.
So that's that's where my head's at right now. Where's
your head out right now?

Speaker 5 (02:43:19):
Well, as a former striker, I've missed easier ones than that,
and I know it's difficult to do. And he came
on as a sub and he did have two good
chances and normally he would get at least one of those.
Totally get it where my head's at as I normally
get at least something right with our analytics and what
we're trying to say here, and I got nothing right tonight.
So we can talk about the game all day long,

(02:43:40):
before after and in between, but at the end of
the day, sometimes things happen all right. And I mean
you can say in the penalty shootout, Saint Clair got
into Alex's head big time by saying, oh the ball's
not on the middle of the spot. Nobody ever puts
it on the middle of the spot. They put it
on the front edge of the spot. That's what every
he does. But every single time somebody was going to

(02:44:02):
take a kick, he was going up and asking the ref, hey,
something something something, all right, yeah, just clarifying. All he's
trying to do is mess up their rhythm. And he
did a good job of it. And you know what,
you got to give him some credit for that. But
at the end of the day, they everybody, whether it's
Danny Jordan, Jordan had a couple of chances there was
everybody on the field could have done something a little

(02:44:24):
bit better to make the result a little bit different.
That's and yeah, you know, it wasn't just one person.
So they just need to regroup and come back, get
the win, and then go back there and take care
of business.

Speaker 3 (02:44:37):
That's an interesting point. I think it's well put chance
the element of everybody. You kind of look at a
moment and say, man could have been better there. And
I think I think, you know, even to the defending side,
where there was early big communication breakdowns with Jackson, Reagan
and Yamar and lots of players along the back line,
and at the end of the day, it was an
interesting first half. Yeah, the Sounders had sixty two percent possession,

(02:44:59):
which is the usual number for Minnesota's thirty eight. It
felt more open in the first half, and it sort
of felt for long stretches of that first half like, Okay,
if you're gonna get Minnesota, it's right now where they're
opening up. They did contain themselves and play a lot
more like their normal Minnesota team in the second half,
but it's just you look at a lot of those
opportunities and say, boy, should have had that, should have

(02:45:20):
had that.

Speaker 5 (02:45:21):
Yeah, Well, I love Paul Rothrock, but the one thing
I wish I would have seen him do is he
kept getting the ball out wide and then just playing
it back to Neuwho And I just wanted him to
take a little step to his right and whip it across,
whip it in, whip it in, whip it in, get
the ball in the box, make your strikers make their runs,
or at least he's getting the ball in there, and
they've got to learn to go where the ball is

(02:45:42):
going to go. I wish I would have seen that
a little bit more. It would have been nice to
see Georgie maybe come in a little bit earlier so
he had a chance to run at somebody. He did
not get the ball out wide, not once when he
was on the field, so that was a bit unfortunate
because I think he could have just.

Speaker 6 (02:45:58):
Run, you know, ran right by the diffult.

Speaker 3 (02:46:01):
I want to ask you about the good things that
we did see in this match, because I think there's
a lot of things that this teams needs to improve on,
but there are some good elements we can take from
this and some good moments that we have down here,
especially coming late in this game. Boy, it's just it's
unfortunate because we were gearing up to be able to
say that our Emerald Queen Casino play. The match was
a mooseheader and really looked like it was gonna come

(02:46:22):
in the ninety first minute, but unfortunately does not go in.
It goes to penalty kicks, and that is where Minnesota
wins tonight three to two in penalties. I will mention
that for each game to play, the match is presented
by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest.
Just didn't have that tonight. Sounders falling in game one
in penalty kicks to Minnesota. Sounder's FC Soccer is presented

(02:46:43):
by Providence, Swedish, official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. We'll
take a break, We'll come back and talk about the
good that we saw in this game that the Sounders
can try to replicate in game two next Monday night.
That's next on Sports Radio nine to fifty KJR. AM.

Welcome back to the pubs game show Sounders falling tonight
in game one, Round one of the playoffs. It's a
best of three series. Game two will be next Monday
night at Loomin Field. We'll talk about that coming up,
but for Game one, it is a loss in penalty kicks,
three to two in penalties after zero zero in ninety minutes.

(02:50:24):
Dame Saint Clair, who might be very well, might be
probably I think he's gonna get my vote goalkeeper of
the Year in Major League Soccer. Fantastic penalty kick shootout
and the Minnesota Loons win it. All right, let's get
to some good things that the Sounders can try to
replicate in game two, and potentially if they were to
move on, they would need to do it in a
game three. Chance, what did you see in this game?

(02:50:46):
And I call chime in too to see if you
read me, where do you see that the Sounders did
good that we should try to see more of that
next Monday.

Speaker 5 (02:50:55):
Well, I thought the back four clean things up in
the second half. From the first half, there weren't any
miscues and they were very pretty solid back there, didn't
give away a lot of chances. One thing for me,
my guy to watch Jordan. It was great to see
him get ninety full minutes. Okay, that's gonna be really
good for him from a physical and mental side of things.

(02:51:15):
And I know, you know, Missoski missed a couple of
shots that you know, some people might think that they
were sitters and everything, but it's so difficult to score.
And but he got in the space to score. That
was positive for me. He's getting in, he's making the
runs and and you know, Jordan, you know, played in
a couple of great balls, which was awesome, and I

(02:51:36):
think that's something that you're gonna, you know, talk about,
which which was great. Those two I think sometimes you know,
we might think, oh, can they play together.

Speaker 6 (02:51:45):
Or not, but obviously they can.

Speaker 3 (02:51:46):
Yeah, they definitely can. And the good that I saw,
the really big good part was that when Jordan was
out on the right and Danny was up top, frequently,
almost every single time anybody hit a ball long on
that right side, Jordan's out running whoever is over there
from Minnesota, a couple of different guys and constantly getting
in behind, constantly putting in good crosses, and Mazovsky's on

(02:52:07):
the end of a couple of them. And I'm kind
of saying to myself, gosh, do you go as far
as starting Mizovsky and Morris in game two and trying
to recreate that, you know, sort of whatever you got there,
whether it's Morris on the right wing or two forwards
up top, trying to recreate that. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:52:24):
I and you could even bring Jordan in on and
start on the left where he has he's very very
used to playing played Danny up top play you know,
Paul can play on both sides. And one thing that
maybe what we do is we take Paul out a
little bit earlier and bring Georgie on to run at them,
because I mean, can you imagine if they're getting knackered

(02:52:44):
from you know, Paul running at him, and then all
of a sudden Georgie's run at you.

Speaker 3 (02:52:49):
Yeah, because one of the things that we saw on
the wings is that is like, yes, you have Ferrera
who's locked in that right wing, and we know Paul
does his thing, but I think I mean Andrews, you
said it. I think best there in the is that
this team really is missing the creativity of Pedro Dalea Vega,
and I think I think that's something that clearly stands
out in a game like this.

Speaker 32 (02:53:07):
Yeah, and getting that creative juice from the wings is
actually really really important for this Sounders team.

Speaker 13 (02:53:13):
They thrive on a lot of crosses coming in the box.

Speaker 32 (02:53:15):
I think that's why Danny Mssovski saw a lot of
success when he came out in the field to get
those chances. And I think Jordan, like you mentioned it,
did a really good job of finding himself in those positions.
So you might be able to kind of finangle something around,
whether it's putting heyesus up top or maybe moving him
to the left, getting Jordan on the right, starting Danny Mussovski,
however you want to kind of move things around. I

(02:53:36):
think it's there's a lot of options to kind of
get from what you got in that last twenty minutes
and maybe get it for a full ninety.

Speaker 3 (02:53:42):
Trying to create that creativity right and just you know,
get Minnesota off their game and get him off balance
and not knowing where the guys are going at any
certain moment in transition.

Speaker 5 (02:53:50):
That's the space they're going to give you because as
they're going back where they're running, they're running towards their goal.
That's the thing they're trying to protect, and they will
leave the wings open for a moment and we that's
why Jordan, we clipped the ball through a couple of
times on both sides and he was able to run
onto it quite easily.

Speaker 3 (02:54:05):
I just don't want to take off any of Ferreira
or Roosnak or rolled On or Vargas. I don't want
to take off any of that group. And I think,
you know, if we do have this idea of starting
Danny mczowski and Jordan Morris together in some combination, I'm sorry,
Paul Rothrock, but I just don't think that I didn't
see enough from him today and I think that we

(02:54:25):
need more basically threats at goal. And Mizoski didn't score,
but at least he's more of a threat in my opinion.

Speaker 5 (02:54:32):
Yeah, I think players going at them like you're talking
about de la Vega. That's the one thing he does
do is he takes chances. All Right, you're going to
lose the ball sometimes if you're a dribbler, you'll lose
the ball, but go for it.

Speaker 32 (02:54:45):
And Paul's a pro like if they did go to
those changes, he would understand like he didn't do enough today.
I think, you know, warned himself a guarantee himself. I
should say another start, and that just happens when you
are in the end of your season. Possibly you need
to be desk and that's the kind of moves that well,
we might end up seeing it next next game from
Bran Smetzer.

Speaker 3 (02:55:05):
Well, next game is going to be quite something. Let's
talk about game two ahead in Seattle because it could

FC Radio, you will see a stream channel that comes up.
That is where we will have the game for you
next Monday night. The Provident Swedish premam show will start

(02:59:51):
at seven thirty. Boys, this is gonna be ugly. This
is going to be a rainy night in Seattle, and
this is gonna be a Minnesota team that's going to
park the the bus about I think as much as
a we as soccer fans and chance you've been watching
for a long time, playing for a long time. I
think we're about to see a team park the bus
like we've never seen a team park the bus before.

Speaker 5 (03:00:11):
Absolutely, you could see Saint Claire walking off the field
right there, chirping at one of his players and talking
to him. He is more than confident right now. He's
cocky and they will play for penalty kicks like nobody's business.
And because he feels like he can, you know, do anything,
even though he only saved one, but he feels great
about it, and goalkeepers do.

Speaker 6 (03:00:30):
But we have a huge, big history of big.

Speaker 5 (03:00:33):
Games and doing well at home, so we can lean
on that we've done great in big games. And at
the end of the day, the reality is if you
can't win under pressure, you can't win MLS Cup, and
Sounders and Schmetz they know that better than anybody in
the league.

Speaker 32 (03:00:47):
The biggest thing for me is going to be a
good start, because the longer the game goes on and
it's zero zero that it's going to become more desperate.
You're going to do things that you don't normally do
because you know that if you don't score, it's the
end of your season. But if you get a goal early,
Minnesota is not going to know how to react, right
because they're just going in and try and play, like
you said, for zero zero. So I think if the

(03:01:08):
Sounders get a good start and if it does end
up kind of goalless late, you have to continue to
trust the process, trust that what you're doing will create
enough chances and you will put one in the back
of the net. You don't need to like I know
we talked about desperation last segment, but in terms of
your play on the field, it shouldn't feel like that.
Trust that you're the better soccer team.

Speaker 5 (03:01:29):
I totally agree with you, and tonight, I mean, in
the first five minutes we could have had one, maybe
even SI. So if we get those the ball bounces
a little bit differently all of a sudden, we're talking
totally differently right now.

Speaker 3 (03:01:41):
Right, and then we're going to Minnesota later that week
and for a game three. All of that sounds great.
It's just execute, Yeah, And to what you said at
the start of the broadcast, chance, it's about players individually
executing at the moments they need And I think you
were right what you just said there too. Is that
the honest to God truth and the sad truth is
that if you can we can't beat Minnesota at home,

(03:02:02):
then you don't deserve to win MLS Cup. So it
starts here, guys. You have to win this game in
order to go on this road, and this is it.
Start fast, hold them down, execute individually. Don't let it
become a rainy night in Seattle where they park the bus,
they put eleven behind the ball for eighty percent of

(03:02:22):
the game and make it zero zero to pens. Because
Minnesota has done that before. They can do that, and
we just got to make sure that they don't execute,
because yeah, it's that would be a tough way to
go out in the first round. Is just lost loss
and pens. After what happened last year in Houston where
it was win winning pens against Houston, we don't want

(03:02:42):
to see it the other way on our turf. On
next Monday night again, that's Monday, lumen Field, November three,
it will be a rainy night. But boy, we are
hopefully going to get another great home moment. As you mentioned,
we have many many homeowners before. Hopefully we'll get another one.

Speaker 5 (03:02:59):
YEP, looking forward to it and as the boss just left,
she said that I'm coming back in even if though
I got this all wrong, I get another chance next Monday.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
