Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Sounders FC postmat Show. Sounders FC Sucker
is brought to you by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner
of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC Postmat Show starts now.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Look your Sounders FC advancing in the league's top round
of thirty two and on to the Round of sixteen
after defeating La Galaxy three to one from EQC Pitch
at Lumenfield.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
I am Killy Dunning here with Kellan Roe and coach
Pete Fewing before we break down.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
The whole game.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Blah blah blah blah.

Speaker 5 (00:33):
How much fun was that a lot of fun? It
could have been eight, it could have been nine.

Speaker 4 (00:38):
Well, you were talking about it.

Speaker 6 (00:39):
That second half flew by, it did It's because he
was exciting, Yeah, right, that first half we had the
first two goals and then it kind of hit a
loll They were coming back and forth for that second half.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
Was just exciting. Like you said, we could have had eight,
nine goals.

Speaker 5 (00:51):
We really are hoping for it, Jordan, Yeah, you know,
and the fact that he's creating the chances. Yeah, but
he could have had three or fours. So and he
was self less a couple of times where Kellen's saying,
take it yourself, take it yourself. Yeah, he could have
been selfish, and you know, his buddy Christian's square to
him and so he wants to give him the chance.
But and you know the fact that he's in the

(01:11):
right spot. We've seen him finish. We're not worried that
he's going in the wrong direction. But yeah, it could
have been. Honestly, it could have been eight ten. And
then LA had their moment once they got the goal.
They scored a very nice goal.

Speaker 6 (01:22):
There was a little nervousness there five minutes or so. Yeah, absolutely,
But you know, I credit the back line. You know,
I think Jonathan Bell came in and did very well.
I'm not sure I'm hoping that, you know, everything's okay
with Jackson Reagan. He had a good game himself, but
it's good to see another guy in there. I thought
jos Atensio, besides maybe a few nervy passes, did very well.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Danny Lava was incredible.

Speaker 6 (01:42):
I think his work rate and his knowledge of the
game and when when to actually calm the game down
was incredible.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
And I look, we talked about him before the game,
Paul Rothrock.

Speaker 6 (01:53):
Yeah, he's a game changer because of his work rate, right,
you saw it sometimes where it was nitty.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
It was gritty. He was getting himself thrown into the goal.
And I think that's the energy.

Speaker 6 (02:03):
That's the energy that these guys needed to keep them going.
You know, it's not always talent. It's and he has
a lot of it. Don't get me wrong. We've seen
the talent. But if you have the work rate that
he has, it brings other guys out.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
He's a pest to play aga when the guys. When
a guy's pushing him out of bounds on a corner
kick for Seattle.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
You know, he's in his head, is in his head
and he's.

Speaker 5 (02:21):
Throwing him in. You know that that guy is And
then and then he almost scored on a little flick
right after that. So uh, he does a good job
of keeping his head and driving his opponent's nuts with
his work out there.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Yes, so much joy this game. It feels like it's
been a while since we've been at lumin We know,
we get a lot of like zero zero, one nil
type of results over the past two seasons, it feels
like and tonight it was just it was flying.

Speaker 5 (02:47):
There was joy.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
It was just really fun to watch. That's what Steve
Zachahani always says, he misses the joy and I feel
like the joy was back. Do you feel that way?

Speaker 4 (02:55):
It is?

Speaker 6 (02:55):
It is it's easy to talk about Yeah, right, it's
easy to talk about the.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Game right now.

Speaker 6 (03:00):
We've got we've got how many clips can we show?
How many times can we say people's names? I mean,
how many good plays did we have?

Speaker 4 (03:06):
And very rare?

Speaker 6 (03:06):
Do we have some bad real play that didn't come through? Yeah,
they scored a goal and then you know, fair enough,
it was a good goal. But you know, there's so
many things. You can always work on things. But yeah,
good performance.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
Yeah, I love that the ECS got into it in
the last five minutes. And although the crowd was smaller
tonight because of midweek game, so many games, Mariner game,
whatever you want to say, but the crowd got into
it and kept the sounders high, and they.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
Did it when they needed it.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
That's right.

Speaker 6 (03:33):
They did it because they were under pressure here. And
I remember because it happened out on corner kick. We
are adults saying that's that's we need this right now,
because it was and I guess what they came out
and I think Jordan was in on gold and that's
when Jordan was in on goal.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
And so that's that's.

Speaker 7 (03:45):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
You know, good.

Speaker 6 (03:46):
Knowledge, well done from the fans, uh and the supporters
that we have here.

Speaker 5 (03:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
I literally wrote down on this rundown this looked fun again.
Exclamation point, exclamation point, exclamation point.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
It was just.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Fun for us. It was really fun. Fourth minute goal
by Yamur, seventh minute goal by Jackson, that forty ninth
minute goal by Alex Roldon. We'll get way more into that.
And then the second half, you know, fifty third minute
goal that got disallowed by La Galaxy. Fine, they scored
again in the eighty third minute, but it was focus
on the positive, yeah, and we.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
Got a lot of guys on the field. We got
a game on Monday, Yeah, back here against Pumas. That
will be a good one. And as Brian said before
the game, you know, he loves the fact that we
get to play all these different teams. And you know,
the Pumas is a to me. It's one of the
top clubs, certainly in Mexico, but consider one of the
top clubs around the world. I would think absolutely.

Speaker 6 (04:37):
I want to be careful of though, because I remember
it was the Champions Cup that we were here and
they were not happy with the result coming into zero,
right three three zero?

Speaker 4 (04:47):
It was three yeah three.

Speaker 6 (04:48):
You want a game that was oh man, yeah, you
signed my best outfit I've ever worn. Yes, But anyways, No,
it's one of those It was one of those games
that you know is in the back of our mind,
whether it be the club, the players, coaches, the fans,
it's in the back of their mind.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
They're going to be up for this game.

Speaker 6 (05:03):
So we got to make sure on Monday, and they're
getting here early, right they they got to come out
here early and really kind of bring it to in
the first twenty thirty minutes to know that.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
That wasn't a fluke.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Yep, They'll be here and they will be motivated. Our
man of the match tonight, of course, Alex road On
will talk about him more, as well as his brother Christian.
We'll be back to recap this one and look ahead
at what's next coming up after the break.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
Kealey Donny back here at Lumenfield with coach Pete Fewing
and Kellen Rowe recapping a three to one League's Cup
Round of thirty two victory for your Seattle Sounders over
LA Galaxy Sounders advancing to the Round of sixteen. They
will next kick off Monday, August twelfth against Pumas, which
is an opponent we know a lot about McKellen.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
What a performance.

Speaker 6 (09:21):
Also, what a great call from Jackson. Oh yeah, it
got me fired up. Look, what a great performance. Taking
care of business obviously is what Alex did today. I
think he was I think I saw here he was
the number one on touches right with I think sixty one.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
We talked about him in the pregame.

Speaker 6 (09:36):
We talked about him the coach Mets and how his
defensiveness was going to be good for us. It's going
to be key because they had a lot of players
that were going to go forward. They have the attacking
threats whatever it may be. He had two chances before that, yeh,
then put away an incredible finish and we were talking
about defense right right, but I think he heard us
because he's now going, okay, just watch this, and he's

(09:57):
he had most touches in the field, he was connecting passes,
he was putting in crosses, he was in the box
more than most players, and then he find that lovely
little finish and he's going, guys, I was a midfielder.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
You forgot about this.

Speaker 5 (10:07):
He can score. But Brian said today he wanted to
release his brakes a little, didn't he Yes, he said defensively.
He's got the grit, yep, got the bite. He's good
one on one, so we need that. But we wanted
to get back to that offensive side. So let's hope
this kind of opens that door for him a little
bit more. It is fun to see brother to brother, right,
I mean, that's a great thing. And their oldest brother, Caesar,

(10:27):
is the trainer for the and he was on the
field about yeah, thirty seconds earlier. I'm sure Alex and
Christian will be rubbing it in saying, hey, maybe you
got to come on the field all the time to
give us a little extra rolled on juice out on there.
But that was a great finish from him, and.

Speaker 6 (10:43):
You see the celebration too, and yeah, I imagine they're
folks in the crowd and you talk to him because
they're they're incredible people. But when you see Christian grab Alex,
yeah that's the cool moments that you want to see, right,
And everyone does get to see that, and that's great.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
But that is how they are normally. If you're ever
around him, they are very brotherly. They are the best
brothers I've ever met. Yeah, pretty great.

Speaker 6 (11:03):
I'm glad they're successful and the fact that they can
assist each other.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
Is pretty cool. Yeah, it's pretty cool. There's no really
ready to put it against their hometown.

Speaker 6 (11:11):
Team, against their hometown team in front of their old
their oldest brother. It's justus exactly. We should film it
and sell it.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Oh my goodness, fun times. Sounders of CE Soccer is
presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders. While
we're talking about the rold On, I thought Christian had
a great game as well. What did you guys see
from him?

Speaker 6 (11:34):
Well, it was it was the rolled on brothers back
on their side. It was they felt like they were comfortable. Again,
Christian did, like what we said in the pregame, he
was helping in the in the midfield, he was getting forward,
he was doing his Christian run where he's finding a
way to get past the defender.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
And you don't know how.

Speaker 6 (11:48):
He did it, it's he was connecting passes. And I
will say he played off Jordan Morris very well. And
I thought Jordan had a very good game as well.
He was one of my players that was kind of
because he didn't score. He was a little onder the radar,
but he was very selfish in many ways. He connected passes,
He was doing the dirty work, connecting with the with
the midfield a lot, as well as making those runs
in behind. But I think those two worked really well together.

(12:11):
And you add in like an Albert Rusnak of the.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
Quality he has. It was just it was well flowed,
especially in that second half.

Speaker 5 (12:16):
Yeah, and you know Jordan, the fact they didn't score,
but he opens things up for everybody else so much.
Uh and and he's so on you know the one
where he probably should have you kill him saying finish
it yourself, take yourself to yourself. But the fact that
he is unpredictable, yeah, and the fact that he did
create all those chances that will serve him well going forward.
He'll look at that video though, and he'll be reminded,

(12:38):
I got to put those things away myself.

Speaker 6 (12:39):
What I like about that, though, is he probably knows
his time is coming up. The game is almost over, yeah,
and he's still thinking maybe I should pass this. He
knows that he knows the kind of goal that I'm
gonna be okay if when it matters it's three, it's
three zero three one right now, Let's let's get him
the confidence he needs. I have this already. That's the
way I'm taking I'm I'm I'm gonna take this. Is

(13:00):
that he knows that he has the confidence and he
can put that away at any time when we need it.
Christian could use the confidence. Now let's say he made
the run with me. I'm gonna give him for that.
And I think that's a good teammate.

Speaker 5 (13:09):
And as it exactly, as a teammate, you appreciate the selflessness.
So but I bet people will also say, Jordan, we
need to score goal, so be a little more selfish.
But it's a it's a win win. So uh but
holy calf. The Sounders, like you said, Keeley, they had
there was a lot of joy out there. They had
so many chances you know, and at the end of
the game it's three to one, Galaxy's got us. Under

(13:31):
some pressure, Danny Lava loses the ball, closes down, and
then and then Alex closes his down and then all
of a sudden we win the ball back in the
defensive third of La Then it goes all the way
to the other side and the wind is out of
their sales. And it was that extra effort from Lava
and Alex realized yeah yeah, and then going together, and

(13:52):
sometimes when a young kid does that, the older guys
are like, Okay, go get him kid. But they went
together as a group to control of the game. And
then to the era.

Speaker 6 (14:01):
It's funny to hear I hear you call it Danny
young And I'm like, when is he gonna get out
of that young kid?

Speaker 4 (14:06):
Because he's been here with four or five years, he's.

Speaker 5 (14:08):
Been here a while.

Speaker 4 (14:10):
That was in Colorado. Was we always called him the
young guy when he was there eight years.

Speaker 5 (14:17):
Yeah, a good point.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
He was just under twenty five.

Speaker 5 (14:20):
We'll give him two more years. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Speaking of young guys, this was like a dream game
for Schweitzer in a lot of ways, because a lot
of guys got minutes Reid got minutes, roth Rock, Jonathan Bell,
Yes we're missing you know, Pedro de la Vega. Yes,
Raoul wasn't you know, An wasn't an option tonight. But
these young guys got real minutes in a competitive game
against a team we may face in the playoffs, which
is awesome. Another thing I noticed in my producer chair.

(14:43):
Every time roth Rock does anything, you hear the crowd
audibly do something. Yeah, he really, he's a lightning spark.

Speaker 5 (14:50):
I don't We had a guy this is before your time. Uh,
Dan Dornick was a running back for the Seahawks Terry.
You know that name, Dan dorny And and he's a
doctor now. And everybody loved Dan dorrit because he was
a blue collar, hard working, go the extra mile, do
whatever it takes. And Rothrock is slowly but surely becoming
that guy for us. We had Davy Butler in the

(15:11):
early NASL Sounder days, where it was a spark. You
know what you're gonna get with Paul rothrom And and
it is pretty but we've all kind of labeled him as,
you know, maybe not as elegant as some of the
other players that we have, but that kid does the
blue collar work and it's paying off. Schwetz loves it,
and it sends a message to all the players, Hey,
this is what you got to do when you're on

(15:32):
this field, and if he's doing it, then we've got
to do it as well.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
I think he's a balance guy there.

Speaker 6 (15:36):
He's balancing out our lineup and the fact that we
have all this talent, We've got all this you know,
big money spending and whatever it may be. Guys who
are you know, been in the league forever and are
scoring a bunch of goals or whatever it may be.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
He is the balance at the moment. He is our
glue guy.

Speaker 6 (15:51):
He is the one that's bringing everyone together and saying,
all right, if he's doing the work, I'll do the work.
Or if I do the work, just getting the right
spot and I'll get it to you. And he's not
getting much of the credit, you know, he's it's he
is the guy for me that is going to push
this team forward. And I'm going to continue to say
I remember said it a few times now on there.
When he got his starts, when he started coming into
the game more often and consistently, you saw the uptick

(16:14):
in the team.

Speaker 5 (16:16):
It correlated well, and it came at a time when
Ruy Diaz was kind of going out of the team,
and so they're looking for somebody to bring something.

Speaker 6 (16:24):
And it wasn't you know, they found goals, yes, but
it wasn't the goals they needed. They needed the work.
They needed the work to then create something else. And
you see there was a lackluster about the beginning of
the season. There wasn't everyone in round. Now you don't
see it. You see guys chasing after the ball, like
Danny Lay, but you see guys chasing the ball.

Speaker 4 (16:42):
I remember Jordan missed a.

Speaker 6 (16:43):
Shot on goal and you see him sprint thirty yards
just to get back on side. But like that's that's
something you didn't see in the beginning of the season.
And I think it comes with now, guys. There's a balance.

Speaker 5 (16:53):
We had that with Christen hold On in his early years.

Speaker 6 (16:55):
Oh yeah, and it hasn't changed.

Speaker 5 (16:59):
But it's different now because now he rolls more strings exactly,
but back then he was he would be running eighty
yards to I think a lot of people who saw
that game still remember him running from the corner all
the way back to the edge of the eighteen and
tackling and everybody's saying, Oh, this kid's gonna be a
help to us. He's different now because he has a
different role, more of a playmaker and dictate. But but

(17:22):
he's got the blue collar work ethic and I'll tell you,
and he does get in the heads and he doesn't
lose his head, which I love to see. He doesn't
get rattled by his opponents, but his opponents do get
rattled by him. And he's kind of young into this
league to have that kind of maturity and moxy. It's good,
good for the sounders. A kid.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
There's a song on the soundtrack for the Disney movie
Hercules zero to Hero yep, and it's on my Liked
Songs on Spotify, And every time I listen to it now,
I'm like, it's Paul Rothrom not like he was a zero.
This is meant to be a total compliment. But I
listened to that song.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
Disney picks some movie.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
No, it's not, well, look at that now.

Speaker 5 (18:02):
We had a lot of time on your hands when
you were.

Speaker 3 (18:04):

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Welcome back to eke UC Pitch at Lumenfield. I'm Killey
Dunning here with Kellen Rowe and coach Pete Fewing recapping
an awesome three to one victory in League's Cup play
Sounders advancing in League's Cup to the round of sixteen,
hosting a very familiar opponent in Pumas Kell and you
have obviously played against this team. You know a lot

(21:42):
about this team. They're going to be motivated to beat us.

Speaker 6 (21:46):
Oh, very motivated. I mean we beat them, We beat
them for a final. We came back in a fashion
that not I'm guessing their fans, definitely their players. You know,
two PK's at the end of the game, you know
at Pumas and now coming back and then having the
game that we had and the celebrations we had here
in in Lumenfield back in twenty two. Yeah, got that right, Gosh,

(22:09):
I remember that one. Yeah, I didn't forget the night.
I'd promise see that. But they're gonna come out and
they're going to have some fire in them, and it's
going to come from the higher ups. Even if the
players that didn't play or weren't even on the team
at that time.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
There's going to be higher ups.

Speaker 6 (22:22):
There's going to be fans, there's going to be they.
I guess wanting blood is the bad way to put it,
but they do. They want to come out here and
prove that that was not something that they are used to.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
Coach is that what coach is going to be telling
the team it is, and he's going to look back
on the Ncoxit game and say, hey, listen, we gave
them a couple of chances and they buried them.

Speaker 5 (22:40):
So we can't make mistakes. These teams from League MX
are lethal when they get opportunities, and you mix that
lethfulness with a revenge factor and we should expect to
have a full on game. That's why todaight was good
to get the three goals to get more subs on
the field. Now we've got until Monday, so we've got
a few days to get and we're not traveling, so

(23:01):
that's good news as well. But I know that Pumas
are going to be in town very soon, right and
so that they can make themselves ready for it. So
this is gonna be a really good game. But these
are not teams that you can make airs with. You've
got to be clinical and you've got to play ninety minutes. Right.
You can't say, okay, it's two nothing, we're we're up
to nothing in the seventy eighth minute. The game is
nowhere near over so and it's it's the next round.

(23:23):
It's around of sixteen. So as these tournaments progress, players, coaches,
fans get more excited about them and more is on
the line.

Speaker 6 (23:32):
I'm gonna put my good old veteran old man hat
on here for a second. And the things that I
would say, especially these young guys that are going in,
I mean, these guys are gonna, like I said, come
out for blood. So make sure you keep your heads,
find a way to give a little nudge every once
in a while, step on the foot a little bit,
find ways to be cheeky without getting called, and make
sure that their head goes and not yours. Right, you

(23:53):
ought to make sure you're on top of it at
all times, but also making sure you're you know those
I always say, it's it's the first two steps. Even
if you don't have the ball, if you make the
first two steps quick, you had a little bit more space.
It' made the first two steps towards them. They don't
have as much. And that is something that you just
got to continuously do. And you can't, like you click
coach said, it has to be ninety minute performance. It
cannot be forty five It cannot be seventy, it cannot

(24:13):
be eighty. It needs to be a ninety minute performance
and it's from everyone, So make sure you have your
your head on.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
That's gonna be a big game.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
Final thoughts guys before we beat the Seagulls and hopefully
none of them come in this booth right now.

Speaker 5 (24:25):
It's exciting, it's exciting. Where what's coming now? Between this
one and the US Open Cup. With LAFC playing at
Starfire I just love that thought because that's such a
great intimate venue that Seattle gets to. You know, the
fans will make it very difficult for LAFC and they

(24:46):
will not really like playing on that.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
No, it's the big, flashy LA team playing at Starfire Sports.

Speaker 5 (24:50):
Yeah, and that's our that's kind of our ace and
the whole h venues carefull you guys.

Speaker 6 (24:55):
How you guys talk about Starfire Sports Man, I grew
I grew up on that thing.

Speaker 4 (24:58):
Come on, so we the start we do. I haven't
changed the field since I grew up on it, but
it's true, you know, I grew up there.

Speaker 5 (25:05):
Yeah, but it's fun that we got Pumas coming, then
we got l a f C. And if we keep
advancing this, we could get LAFC again and then you
got to reboot and it's back to first three games
in the MLS of our last nine are on the road,
so there is a lot ahead for the Seattle Sounders,
and I think Keiley, to your point, we feel like
we're in a good spot because tonight was fun. There

(25:25):
was joy, there was a lot of quality, there was
a lot of chances and so little momentum boost and
we got a few days to get ready.

Speaker 6 (25:33):
My recap is there is excitement around this There is
excitement around this team again, and it's so exciting to
see because you saw, we talked about it.

Speaker 4 (25:41):
It was a little lackluster in the beginning of the year.

Speaker 6 (25:43):
We saw, you know, not as many fans in the stands,
and now you see the performance like this and you're
going people missed out and you saw performances before and
you're going people missed out. I mean, this is an
exciting team, an exciting time, and it's it's it's one plays,
it's one I'm here.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
