Seattle Sounders FC is presented by Gallagher Benefits and HR Consulting,
helping businesses, communities and people face their futures with confidence,
and by Delta Airlines, proud to donate one soccer ball
for every mile round by Sounders FC players this season
through Rape Foundations One Mile, One Ball program. The Provident

(00:22):
Swedish premat show starts now.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Well after back to back wins over Portland and Salt Lake,
your Seattle Sounders are locked into the number five seed
in the Western Conference as we have finally hit decision Day,
the final day of the Major League Soccer regular season.
Next week the playoffs will begin for Seattle that will
be in either Los Angeles, San Diego or Minnesota, but

(00:48):
that opponent will have to wait for the Western Conference
slate of games later tonight. Right now, the Sounders are
in the Eastern Conference slate of games because they are
in New York City to face NYCFC today at City Field,
the New York Mets Baseball stadium out there in New
York City. And here we go for the final game

(01:09):
of the regular season. We welcome you to the Sounders
FC pre match show, presented by Provident Swedish official healthcare
partner of Seattle Sounders FC. We'll also mentioned that tonight's
match is presented by the Western Washington Toyota Dealers. Jackson
Feltz here in studio alongside the coach Pete Fewing, we
are counting you down to kickoff for the next half hour.
Then Danny Jackson and Brad Evans will have the call

(01:30):
for Sounders New York City FC. Pete, it's been a
pair of back to back one nothing wins for this team,
you know, Glass half Fole says, all right, this team
is in good renal form. With the playoffs a week away,
Glass half mpt. You would be would sure love to
win these games by more than one nothing. Where are
you sitting coming out of these last two wins.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
I love shoutouts and love one nothing wins As a coach,
I'm with you after the game. Let me say this
after the game, because you have to deal with that pressure.
Playoff add another level of pressure. So I like it
after the game. I don't like it holding on to
a one nothing win, right, I don't do that. I
don't think Brian Schpetzer does stress. It's stressful. Yeah, but

(02:12):
you look today and we got twenty three goals in
our front, four guys attacking, so I have a lot
of confidence with our attack. It's it's really a unique
thing in this team in that we have a lot
of goals between. Morris hasn't had as many as normal
because of due to injury, but then you got Morris
and then you got a Sase and and so we
actually have quite a bit of depth up front, quite

(02:33):
a bit of flexibility in that. But so to answer
your question, yes, after two one nothing wins back to
back after great during i'd like less stress. I'd like
to I'd like to, but it is it is an
improvement because you go back three or four games and
we've been given up late goals. So that is a
real positive.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
Exactly.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
It sort of feels like, you know, small steps, and
those small steps are so important where we go from.
You know, giving up that late goal the equalizes to
winning one nothing and hopefully that next step is winning
two nothing. This is an interesting game, Pete, and we're
gonna get into it pretty much, you know throughout I
think the premat show and we'll start with the lineup
and then we'll kind of get into what my big

(03:15):
question is as a fan, and that's why I love
our dynamic here, Pete is because me and I am
the fan first. I've always been the fan first. They
just put a microphone in front of my face and
for me as the fan, I have big enormous questions
about going into this game having already locked in the
five seed, and you are the coach with a unique
personality having coached for many, many decades. I want to

(03:38):
ask you the burning question in a minute. Before we
do that, you talked about exactly who Brian Schmenzer is
starting today. Let's go right to the delta, starting eleven
for his Seattle Sounders today.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
It's a good lineup, but it's a little different, but
it's still quality. Four two three one. Stephan Fry, your
captain is in goal, Kosa Rienzi is on the right
back side, Alex roll Don and Jackson Reagan will sit
in the middle. Knew who on the left in front
of the back four JP Jal Paulo, Danny Lava. We've
seen that combination already recently and earlier in the season.

(04:13):
And then on the right, Hey Suss Ferrara, the attacking
midfielder will be Albert Rusnik. Welcome him back. After one
game off, so he should be sharp. And then Pedro
de Lavega on the left and Jordan Morris the kid
from Mercer Island up front.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
And should be mentioned the bench before we go any further.
Andrew Thomas, Jonathan Bell, Stuart Hawkins, Reed Baker, Whiting, Snyder Burnell,
Paul rothrock Osasea di Rossario, Danny Mazowski and Ta come
A defines player eligible for selection due to extreme hardship.
It is Peter Kingston up with the team in New
York City not on that list. Oh, bet Vargas back

(04:47):
from the U twenty World Cup with Mexico. He did
not it looks like make the trip. Also, Christian rolled
On back from the United States where he might have
earned a spot on the World Cup roster. By the way,
maybe that fits into a postgame talk later. But Christian
roll Don also not there available, so maybe he didn't
make the trip. So both of them. You have Danny
Lava JP starting let's start with that. And also Georgie,

(05:10):
that's a good point, Pete, Georgie manongu Is you hold
that up not making the trip It seems like either
as he was also on international duty. Let me get
to the burning question in a minute. Let's just start
with your opening thoughts on the decisions from Brian Schmitzer
to leave those guys and the decision to go with
a very first choice starting lineup in this game where
you're already locked into the five seed.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Well, I like it. I like it for Klannie getting
another minutes at that right back spot. Alex Roldn can
easily go back there. He's very interchangeable. I think it's
it's quite an interesting thing. Jonathan Bell, for me, has
been good. But Brian Schmitzer puts Alex, ral Don Jackson, Reagan.
He knows best, so I'm not questioned in his decision,
but it's interesting that he does that. Does he do

(05:52):
it because he wants Kilanie to get more time? Alex
can certainly handle that. He and Jackson pairwell together. So
and then in the middle of the park, Danny and
JP together. That's great for the two of them. That's
great for the two of them. So this is one
of those games where they can log more minutes, get
a little more comfortable with each other, improve on their fitness.
I think that's important, and I do think it's important

(06:14):
that Christian Georgie obed get a little bit of a
break because we're going to go into a three game
series with whoever it is, and we're gonna need them
back and they'll be the two that go back in there.
And then I think it's interesting that Paul Rothrock's not
in the lineup. Just talking to Danny Jackson just now saying, well,
maybe this is maybe this is the group that attacking

(06:35):
front four is quite impressive, between Pedro and the left,
Frera on the right, Albert and Jordan. At the beginning
of the season, that's probably what we thought it was gonna.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Be get this Pete are three designated players, Pedro, Albert Jordan.
The Sounders as a team are starting the three designated
players on the roster together for just the fourth time
in the last two years.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
All this year. I mean, but you have that amazing talent.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
And the question that I had on Sounders Weekly this
week was who's the odd man out? With Pedro on
the left, with Hayes, who's on the right, with Alberta
between him and with Jordan up top, is Paul Rothrock
left out?

Speaker 4 (07:13):
And we get the answer the answers, Yes.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Here's the funny thing. It was in the paper a
couple of days ago, Jade Evans talking about Paul's contract, right,
and they're in the process of all that. Well, Brian
Schmittzer knows that if Paul Rothrock's on the bench, he
has got a caged animal, highly motivated to come in
and for the third year in a row, maybe prove
everybody that he should be starting. So it's money in

(07:38):
the pocket for Brian Schmetzer to put Paul, and Paul
takes it. Well. I just talked to his Georgetown coach.
He couldn't have said anything better about Paul Rother Brian Weisze.
But if Paul comes in, he's going to come in
guns a blazing and want to make a difference. So
he scored the game winner in the last game, so
I'm sure he's grinding his teeth a little. But this

(08:00):
could be This could be the group. And that's fascinating.
Two years, fourth time we've had all three deeps to amazing.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Yeah, exactly, And it's quite a lot of firepower. And
if this game is close late and you have Paul
coming on, that's quite a weapon. The question for me,
Pete is will it be close late? Which leads to
the burning question and I come out this as a fan,
and right now, the Sounders going into this game are
locked into the five seed. They cannot move up, they
cannot move down. The only thing that they can do

(08:30):
is get in good run of form. Looking at the
playoffs starting next week in Minnesota, Los Angeles, or San Diego.
That's it. That's the motivation. Get in good run of form.
Maybe you can add more to that. For New York City,
they're right now in fifth place, tied on points with
fourth place Charlotte.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
They are quite.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Literally playing for home advantage in the first round of
the playoffs and very important seating for the Eastern Conference.
They are playing for a ton in this game at home.
I as a fan look at the motivation levels in
this game and see a New York City team that
just in terms of the things that I pointed out

(09:08):
there are going to be way highly motivated, potentially more
than the Sounders who are just looking to get in
good run form for the playoffs. I am concerned that
that maybe the Sounders don't have both feet on the
gas that New York does.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
Do I have any leg to stand on with that?

Speaker 5 (09:26):
Or?

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Am I am?

Speaker 4 (09:27):
I kind of being an irrational fan at that moment.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
No, I think it's a fair question for sure. And
two words come to mind, pride and opportunity. Because the
wingers Ferrera and Pedro know that Paul's knocking on the door,
and if he gets in and gets a goal, he
might jump back over from JP and Danny Lava are
wanting to be in the conversation for playing in the playoffs.

(09:51):
Coz Orienzi the same thing. He wants to be in
that conversation. And then the pride factor. So there's opportity.
Jordan Morris, he's got four goals to assist. Jordan wants
to get to six.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
He's to get get in good run off for him.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Yeah, yeah, he wants to get that. So and then
there's guys knocking on the door that want to come in.
Uh Missovski's got to be saying, hey, I got fourteen goals,
give me a chance, right, And same with thse ase
E with his three goals. So and then there's the
pride factor. And when you ask that question, I immediately
go to Paul schools from Man United. Okay, So he's

(10:24):
got to get in a full ninety minute training session
and he's a he is a veteran starter at Man United,
and he's but in order for him to get into
the first team, he has to get a full session
in the U twenty three's are away, the next team's away.
He's got to go train with the U nineteens. He
goes out to practice and he does the running harder

(10:44):
than anyone. He does the quality of passing better than anyone.
And players I heard two interviews. This is you know,
ten years ago, right, I had heard two interviews a
player saying that's what a professional looks like. So for
Albert Rusnik, for Stephan Frye, right, we don't know if
Steph's going to come back another year. He's got a contract, yes,
but you never know what's going to happen. And it

(11:05):
is the last regular game of the season. And then
there is a little bit of a caveat we're in
New York. You're in New York. You got to bring
your a game right to the Big Apple. So interesting
factor you mentioned it is that city field is small.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Let's let's take a break and let's talk about that,
because as we kind of get into the opponent Alec
in the next segment, I think one of the most
interesting parts of this is where they're playing today. It's Sounders,
it's New York City FC. We'll take a break, we'll
come back on the pre match show and talk about
the opposition today and talk about this unusual stadium that
they are playing and as we kind of look on
the monitor and get it to look at this unusual

(11:39):
dimensions of city field of baseball stadium, we'll come back
with more here on the Providence Swedish pre match show
sports Radio nine to fifty kr AM.

love when you take the train to the match, but
we want to remind you to use crosswalks and obey

Welcome to the pre match show, Jackson Feltzpete Feeling counting
you down to kickoff Sounders New York City FC today
from City Field. We'll get to our Sounders players to
watch here in a few minutes. Pete, well, of course,
here from Heesus Ferira and have the keys to the
match before kickoff from Danny Jackson and Brad Evans. Before
we get there, though, let's talk a little bit about

(15:14):
New York City FC. They enter decision Day same as
the Sounders, fifth place in their respective conference.

Speaker 4 (15:20):
In New York City.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Is fifth place in the East, but they are tied
on points with fourth place Charlotte, meaning today Decision Day
all matches happening at the same time. They will be
having an eye on the game between Charlotte and Philadelphia
to see if they can earn a four seed and
get home field advantage for the first round. So this
game is massively important to New York City there for

(15:43):
home field in that first round.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
Best of three.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
Seventeen eleven and five fifty six points on the season,
that is four more than the Seattle Sounders fifty two.
They have eleven us. They have eleven home wins this year.
That is the second most in the league only to
Charlotte and supporter shield winners Philadelphia, who have twelve forty
nine goals scored, seven less than the Sounders. Forty two

(16:07):
goals conceded is five less than the Sounders, so good
in that category. It's been a little bit of an
up and down stretch recently. They lost one to nothing
in Philadelphia last weekend. Before that, they beat the Red
Bulls three to two. Before that four nothing, lost to Miami.
Before that, a two nothing went over Charlotte. It's back
and forth, back and forth for City here over the

(16:28):
last month or so. But Pete, it's a team, as
we talked about, that's very motivated to get that home field,
and it's also a team playing outside.

Speaker 4 (16:37):
Of their normal home.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Normally, this team plays at Yankee Stadium, the baseball stadium.
Today they are playing at City Field, the New York
Mets baseball stadium. And as you kind of take a
look at what that pitch looks like and what that
field dimensions look like. You know, I had Jessica Sharman,
who's calling the match for MLS season passed on Apple TV,
and she said that this is going to be a

(16:58):
real factor, small tight dimensions of city field for this game.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
I would agree with that. We did a game at
Yankee Stadium and before the game, we're watching the warm
up and I'm thinking, it doesn't look that small kickoff.
I think we should take each team should take one
or two players off the field because it just looks
so I'm not kidding. It looks so fulastic, right, And
it could have been a nine on nine game, would
have been a much better use of the space. And

(17:25):
it was tiny, and you have an advantage. When I
coached the kids at Bomas, we played on a.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
Football I remember that, Yeah, with the.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
Crown and it was sixty five yards wide. Well, we
got better and better and better at playing in that space,
and so they do. New York City, in my opinion,
does have quite an advantage. And then man, this is
old school NESL days. You're looking at the field and
third base and second base and the space where the
dirt is between them is covered in sawed and you

(17:52):
just wonder if that saw it's going to stick. And
it's one game that they're playing this in. It's not
a World Cup game. It's not a you know, a
club World Cup game. So I can't imagine the grounds
crew was as focused and dialed in. So it'll be
interesting to see what that surface looks like. And it's
it's in, you know, one side of the field. It's

(18:13):
not down the middle. That's the good news. It's just
ten yards in. But the spacing is different, and it
also means that you play obviously play different right you
can go direct real quick. A diagonal ball can be
you know, hit from your defensive third and springs someone
right away. So the width is the biggest issue. And
you know, we've got wingers that can cut inside. With Pedro,

(18:36):
we've seen him score some great goals. So it'll be
interesting to see how we adjust. But it is it
is a different style of play when it's that narrow.
It's so much tighter. You have to move the ball
so much quicker. And I would give City the advantage
in that regard. And then also the fact that they
need this win.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Because they are used to playing in those sort of
smaller dimensions with Yankee Stadium, I know it's even smaller today.
They got to Lonzo Martinez from Costa Rica. He's somebody
to watch. Came over from Belgium a couple of years ago.
Sixteen goals last year, seventeen goals this year. Hannis Wolf
second on the team with eleven goals, also second in
New York City with seven assists. Maxi Morales is just

(19:15):
an ageless.

Speaker 4 (19:17):
One eleven assists, leads their team. They can play quick.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
But you know, if this game ends up being, you know,
a defensive struggle because the offenses are playing quick, they're
playing direct, and they're playing fast, it could be turned
into a fun electric decision day. And you know, I guess, well,
you're trying to find good run reform and look good
offensively going into the playoffs. Maybe this isn't good for
a team like this to play in these kind of dimensions.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Yeah, and all of those guys are starting. Here's the
other cap. Yeah, yep, they're a five four to one.
What does that tell you? In that tight of space,
they're gonna park the bus. We thought Minnesota, you know,
did a good job of doing that. They were very
good with five at the back, but you know, Martinez
upfront is very dangerous, but he's on an island by himself.
Now they're gonna, I don't know if they're gonna go
for the counter tech option, but with the space being

(20:03):
this small, five defenders is a lot of congestion around
their box.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
That is interesting because Pascal Johnson I was kind of
reading about him their head coach in his first year.
He led a team in Hungary last year before making
the move. His style apparently is very aggressive, attacking high pressure.
So five to four to one, we'll see how that
manifests itself today with a very very lethal score in
Alonzo Martinez against a Sounder team that is dealing with

(20:28):
a couple injuries. Kim Ki Yemargomez on Jardi in the
back end. Will dive into the Provident Swedish Team health
report presented by Providence Swedish as always the official healthcare
partner of Sounders. FC Yamar out with the hamstring, Kimki
he out with a calf injury, Ryan Kent' still out
the hamstring and Paul Oriol out at the ACL. Tair
Al Chuldan starting center back next to Jackson Reagan today.
So in that regard, you definitely want to make sure

(20:52):
that Alonzo Martinez is covered because that is a very
very potent New York attack in this type of small space.
All Right, we'll get a break. We'll get to our
Sounders players to watch next. We'll also hear from Heesus Ferra.
Count you down to kickoff about eighteen minutes away here
on Sports Radio nine fifty KGr AM.

Speaker 4 (24:39):
It's Paul Rothrock on a bench.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
On the bench.

Speaker 1 (24:42):
You're going with a bench player, Pete Field.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
I am, and my first thought was Pedro Orjesuss on
the wings. But I think it'll be interesting to see
what Paul does if he gets his opportunity, and I'm
assuming he will get his opportunity. I can't imagine that
he sits for the whole ninety So yeah, I'm gonna
go with Paul and see what he does.

Speaker 4 (24:59):
Buyer sell this, Pete. Jordan Morris needs a goal today.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
By does that mean? I agree?

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Yeah, yeah, exactly, because because that's my player to watch,
and I think that Jordan he needs to get off
the schneid. I mean, he scored the goal to make
him the club's all time leading scorer and he's been
shut out since. He needs to be in good form
going into the playoffs, and you know, having the penalty
saved last week, it wasn't a well taken penalty. He
needs to get that confidence. He needs to get in

(25:26):
good reform. And I think Jordan Morris needs to score
today for a lot of reasons, but mostly just for
his confidence.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
I agree, and I think you'll get the service from
the flanks. You'll get service from Albert again. The narrowness
of the field will get keep the ball closer to
him at all times. He needs to stay in the
width of the goal or the width of the sixth
because that's where he does his best work, between the
penalty spot and the six yard bucks, right in between
the posts if you get to that near post. So yeah,

(25:55):
I agree, and I think that's why Brian Spetzer has
him on is because he knows what Danny doing and
he's trying to get Jordan going well.

Speaker 4 (26:03):
You mentioned Hazus Frere earlier this week.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
I had the chance to be out at Long Acres
for practice and catch up with Hazus Ferrera looking ahead
to this Decision Day match against New York City. Hazy's
Decision Day New York City FC just thoughts on the
match coming up on Saturday.

Speaker 23 (26:16):
Yeah, no, I think for us it is still an
important match, no matter if it changes anything, which for
us it doesn't really change much, but we're still going
to have the mentality of a playoff game.

Speaker 21 (26:26):
We know how good of a.

Speaker 23 (26:27):
Team they are, and that's going to help us set
a standard for us in the way that we want
to approach playoffs. And so going against a good team,
it's gonna be a great game, but that's gonna just
be another momentum of a playoff match. You know, we
came off from playing Vancouver, which it was an intense match.
It showed us a playoff moment, and then we go

(26:49):
to Portland still a playoff match, showed moments, and then
you have ourselves where we have to grind till the
last minute and the game is about inches. And so
we're not going into New York just to just to
mess around. We're gonna go there to try to get
the three points and do our best.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
You mentioned New York's a good team, they're obviously fighting
for a home advantage there in the first round of
the playoffs. What do you expect from that New York
City team?

Speaker 23 (27:13):
Now, we expect a good team with the ryn mentality
to play and obviously they have something to play for,
and so they're going with everything that they got. Obviously,
you know how important home field advantage is in the playoffs,
and so I'm sure that they're going to be motivated.

Speaker 13 (27:28):
But we're also motivated to get three points. We don't
care who's in our way.

Speaker 23 (27:32):
We have a deep squad that can play against anybody,
and so we're excited for the opportunity and to start
going because you know, the best thing about playoffs is
that anybody can make a round, and so starting starting
early is the best thing for us.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
We certainly know that here where any team can win
him as Cup, like twenty sixteen. You know, it's interesting,
you guys are in the eastern slate of games at
three pm Pacific, and then all the Western games are
at six pm while you guys are in the air
coming down back to Seattle when that flight lands, or
maybe you're following mid mid flight, but like when that
plane lands, how quickly are you guys opening up your
phones seeing who wanted to see who you guys faced.

Speaker 23 (28:09):
Yeah, I think I'm sure the coaching staffs are going
to be the first ones and let it now. But
you know, we we know what we have to do,
and we're going to take care of what we can control,
you know. Besides that that that's we can't control anything
else of what other teams do. But all we know
is that we're gonna have to play two games away
and and that's gonna be tough. But we have the
mentality and the and the team to to be able

(28:30):
to do it. And so whoever we have to face,
I'm sure that they're not happy to come here to
Seattle either, and so or to face us and in
any way, and so we'll take We'll take whoever we get,
and and we just have to play as a team
that we know how to do and and we have
the mentality to do it.

Speaker 5 (28:47):
A f C.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
San Diego Minnesota, I don't imagine there's a preference.

Speaker 23 (28:51):
No, I think there are tough teams there are in
a good stretch. You know, San Diego and LA and
Minnesota all have good players, talent squad, they have their
their tactics, their way to play, and so we're gonna
have to see it and figure out who we're gonna
have to play, and figure out our tactics and and
and and figure it out. But I think that the

(29:11):
coaches have a have a vision for us, have a
way of style that we want to play and we
want to keep going. And I'm sure that they neither
of those team would want to want to face us. Neither,
And so it'll be an exciting, uh group of group
of games because that's the best of the best, and
so it's exciting.

Speaker 2 (29:30):

Jackson Felts, Pete Fewing wrapping things up before Danny Jackson
and Brad Evans have the call. Ah Seattle in New

(33:22):
York City have not played in the NLS regular season.
It's important wording there since twenty nineteen. That was a
three to nothing win for NYCFC over at Yankee Stadium.

Speaker 4 (33:32):
I believe that was in a downpour in the Rain.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
I believe in OZ years back, that's where they play
most of their matches, Yankee Stadium. But I will also
mention that they more recently played at Lumen Field and
at Yankee Stadium. In twenty twenty two in the CONCACAFFT
Champions League semifinals. Seattle won that series on aggregate four
to two. Of course, ended up winning CCL. Only team

(33:55):
in MLS ever do that, but across all competitions, when
every single game the Sounders are three to three and
one against New York City one two and one on
the road, Pete Viewing, what are your keys to this
decision day match for the Seattle Sounders.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
With the narrowness of this field, changing the point of
attack quickly to catch a team while they're shifting is
going to be important. So getting it left to right,
getting it from the left to the middle to the
right quickly very important. And then I think it's important
that we get Albert our four attackers, Pedro Jesus, Albert Jordan.
They have to be very sharp today. Albert's gonna get

(34:33):
balls at the edge of the box. Can he slip
people in? Can he turn in the middle third, spring
the ball wide, get players in behind, so on the attack,
changing the point of attack, not being the same every
single time. At the back, Alex Rodon and Jackson Reagan
are comfortable with each other. But you're going to face
a team that really needs to climb the ladder on
their side of the table. So you're gonna have to

(34:56):
make sure you don't give anything away. And by the way,
you can't shut off in a game like that is
because the narrowness of the field and the shortness of
the field as well.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
That's exactly right, you mentioned need to climb. They are
in fifth place right now in the Eastern Conference. They
have a chance to move up into fourth place and
earn home field advantage in that first round best of three.
New York has a lot to play for Seattle. They're
locked into the five seed. We're looking to get in
good run of form for the playoffs starting next weekend.
That will be either at LAFC at San Diego or

(35:25):
at Minnesota. We won't know the answer to who they
play until about eight pm tonight. Danny Jackson Bratt Evans
will have the call. It is finally decision day. Sounders

Speaker 11 (38:45):
Good evening Sounders fans from Cityfield in New York City
for this final game of the regular season between Your
Sounders and New York City FC of the Eastern Conference.
New York City have all to play for this evening,
sitting in fifth and right in the mix for a
top four finish as three teams are vying for home
field advantage. The win today for New York gives them

(39:07):
a good chance of hosting either Charlotte or Nashville in
the first round of the playoffs, and for Your Sounders,
back to back wins with clean sheets is given the
Sounders a boost as they enter the playoffs. Their fifth
position is all wrapped up and the Sounders are now
squarely focused on finding their best form and their best
eleven as they enter the playoffs. It's decision today and

(39:27):
MLS and the Sounders are here to end the season
with a win. I'm Danny Jackson alongside former Sounders Captain
Brad Evans. Before we get to bread for his initial
thoughts and his keys to the game, Let's get you
the Delta. Starting eleven for Brian Schmitzer and Your Sounders,
Sep and Freiin Gohl about four of Koloney, Kosa Rienzi
on the right. Alex Rodin will slide alongside Jackson Reagan

(39:51):
in the middle, and then Knew who back from international duty.
He'll slide on that left hand side. Danny Lavor JP
will start again in the middle of the park. Christian
Roldan and Obed get a break today after their international travels.
Jesus Ferrera on the right, Albert Rouznek in the ten
peedro De la Vega on the left, and then Jordan
Morris up front for New York Matt freezing goal. We

(40:15):
think it might be a three to four to three,
but it could be a four to two three one
as well. We'll go with a three at the back.
Right now, it's Gustavo Martin's and Hack. It'll be Gray
on the right, O'Toole on the left, Perea and potentially
morale Is alongside, and then Wolf Fernandez Marcau and then
their seventeen gold man from Costa Rica, Alonso Martinez upfront.

(40:36):
So as the players start getting themselves ready in the
tight confines of city Field. For New York, it was
a question mark of where they were going to play
in these final games of the season. With the Yankees
in the playoffs, it was scrubbed to play at Yankee Stadium.
They will play Yankee Stadium for the playoff games, but
here at City Field, right next door to where their
new stadium, Etty Hard Park is getting built. That'll be

(40:59):
ready in twenty twenty seven. But they play here at
the New York Mets Stadium in New York, where there's
good Sounders already. Brian Schmittz mentioned it just before leaving
on the plane that what's the message to the team,
and it's about getting on the travels, getting to the
East Coast and not just turning up for the fun
of it, but to get a win and get a

(41:19):
good performance ahead of those playoffs. It's been a while
since New York and the Sounders met. As Jackson mentioned,
it was in playoffs in the semi finals of CONCACAFF
Champions Cup in twenty twenty two, an aggregate win for
the Sounders before they went on and won that championship.
The first MLS team, of course to win CONCACAFF Champions

(41:40):
Cup of New York City. They're looking to try and
get back on the winning trail. Twenty twenty one was
an MLS Cup win and it was against our foe,
the Portland Timbers. Back of course, the Sounders had a
great run up to that year, making the championships in
twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen, twenty nineteen, and then the last

(42:00):
time the sound has turned up it was twenty twenty
where they lost to the Columbus Crew. And here we
go New York City in their traditional light blue tops,
white shorts, and light blue socks. They're attacking the goal
to our right, and the Sounders are in their traditional
anniversary kid of green shirts, blue shorts and white socks.
They're attacking the goal to our left. See the Sounders

(42:24):
can get off a good start. It was a fourth
minute goal last week for Paul Rothrock got that one
nil win for RSL. Who's just the start that Brian
Schmetzer needed and wanted from his team. RSL needed that win,
and they still need something to go right for them
in today's games on Decision Day, Sounders playing in the
unfamiliar timeframe of three pm here on the West Coast

(42:49):
six pm East Coast time. And of course it is
this fifteen team each conference setup, so there is always
going to be that final game matchup between East versus West.
Sound has pulled the short store in that one. This
particular year. But for the sound it's not much to
play for in terms of positioning. But for New York
Cities all to play for. They're sitting in fifth as

(43:11):
all hoster teams the whole host of results that could
go their way to push them up into the top
four in which they would host as home field advantage.
That first game, as new has it on the left
hand side, back from international duty with Cameroon, is it
ball goes out down the laby Lord sure in that
pass goes out of bound on this near side, ball

(43:33):
gets thrown in picked up in the middle of part
by Morales, the player, as Brian Schweitz said, it's like
fine wine as Morales just continues to get better and better.
Sits on two goals eleven assists for his campaign. New
York City pick it up with their enigmatic Martins in
the middle of the park. It's clipped forward toward seventeen

(43:55):
gold Man headed away by Jackson Reagan, picked up by
Laver and then played square. I JP sounders building out
of the back and these tight confines. You can see
the little hash mark for the ten yard line away
from the corner flag. That always gives an indication of
how narrow. The field is just a couple of yards
away from the corner the eighteen yard box on that

(44:15):
end line, so it is tight and has Bete Fewing
said in the pregame, it's a matter of can you
keep the ball, move it quickly, don't give up mistakes,
because as soon as you give the ball up, you'll
be turning and sprinting back to your own goal. A
little bit like starfire in some ways you can go
one direction and in a blink of an eye you
go in the other direction. But there comes the Sounders

(44:36):
thrown in well to labor, just absorb the pressure, earns
the free kick just outside their right corner of the
eighteen yard box. Stephan Fry looking for another clean sheet.
Nine clean sheets on the season so far for the
Sounders up to I thinks one hundred and twenty four
clean sheets for Stephan Fry. Still a ways to go

(44:57):
to catch number one. As he sits to number two
time Sephan Fryan all pink tonight. They're standing outside of
his eighteen yard box. Gotta launch this one. Long ball
goes in towards the Ford line in Jordan Morris, who
definitely needs a goal today. Little sloppy by Kilani. Here
comes New York in transition quickly to Martinez strikes it.

(45:21):
Good block by Jackson Reagan, and for the Sounders is
their first corner kit. They're gonna have to defend. As
the ball goes out on this near side, down to
our right hand side. That's not what the Sounders need
to do. Let's give the ball away sloppily in the
middle of the park, and this time it was Killan.
He was a quick break by New York, but good
defending by Jackson Reagan. But they are gonna have to
defend this corner kick. Four minutes in nil nil Sounders

(45:44):
New York. Here in Queens and New York City, ball
goes in and flicked around. Ball bounces around the eighteen
yard box, calmly played out by Jackson Reagan. Here's Kilani
now turns away from pressure, chased down by Gustavo and
then the ball it's knocked out on this near side.
Actually was great that knocked it out on this right
hand side. As Kolaney just tracks back into his right

(46:09):
hand side position. Here come the Sounders in the possession
of labor and then knew who calm and compose are
the Sounders. That's the message from Brian Schmitzer today is
just can you absorb it? It's a great preparation for
the playoffs, no doubt about it. It was RSL who
needed a win last week. The Sounders took care of
business there missing eleven players in that particular game, you

(46:33):
wouldn't know it in the performance, especially in that first
half where the Sounder's gone on top of RSL early
and managed to see the game out for their second
clean sheet in as many games. And as Brian mentioned
this week in his presser, two clean sheets back to
back against a desperate RSL who'd been the foe for

(46:53):
the Sounders. That was only the second win in nine
games against RSL. It's good preparation for the playoffs. Now
the Sounders and they're attacking through the field, just slowing
things down. On the far side the Sounders right in
the foot of Roll Don rolls it into Jordan Morris
just comes back, needs a quick touch and then spins
into the space. Switch a play by Rolldan Well played

(47:14):
from right hand side to this near side the left
and Petro dela Vega and it'll be interesting to see
if Dela Vega Ferrera Rosneck and Morris will be you're
attacking four going into the playoffs, and maybe that's the
test that Brian Schwetzen needs to check out. Are they
going to play that four with Rothrock on the bench, who,

(47:37):
of course has had a stellar, stellar year. And here
comes Rossneck, middle of the part, rolls its squares, Ferra
trying to find a pocket of space coming off that
right hand side, ball goes all the way back. So
Brad Evans, let me bring you in keys to the
game tonight. New York City need to get a win
to push themselves or give themselves a chance of getting
into four spots. Sounders have secured fifth, but how do

(47:57):
they get three points here in these tight confines a
city field.

Speaker 6 (48:00):
Yeah, I think that's the biggest thing is New York
City's playing for something today, right, not just getting into
the playoffs and getting that home field advantage. So playing
at home it's a difficult task, and we've had some
success here in years past in New York City. But
I think for the Sounders it's all about can we
get a good performance, especially for Jordan Morris. We have
to get Jordan off the mark. Tonight.

Speaker 11 (48:17):
It comes Farrera just takes a shot deflected wide, so
it's gonna be a first corner kick for the Sounders.
Good play by the Sounders, good patients play through the midfield.
Farah looks like he's got fresh and clean shaven face
there just the mustache. It's a playoff look if I've
ever seen one.

Speaker 6 (48:35):
Oh, that's a playoff look. I remember those days.

Speaker 11 (48:38):
Not quite November yet, but it's got the look for it.
But here come the Sounder is right hand side corner
kick with Russneck, of course missed a game due to
a red card against the Timbers. The ball comes in
flick away by New York. Picked up this near side
by Kerlaan. He's gonna roll it all the way back

(48:58):
to Alex. Rolled clips it in flat square ball headed clear,
but picked up by the green shirts of the Sounds.
They're attacking the goal to our left. Hi comes calling, quick,
little turn, guests pass, huck comes inside strike by Ferrera,
well blowed by Gustavo, then laid off well by Jackson
Ray and go a little nick whipped it now by

(49:20):
lay of Town. And it was a chance by Knew,
who looks like the assistant referees flag on the far
side went up, But there's a chance on the bat
post by Knew who found himself in a couple of
yards of free space. But it's gonna be a free kick.

Speaker 6 (49:31):
No, no, yeah, we'll work from the Sounders, and when
they have patient build up, the guys seem to seem
to get more opportunities. It's a few years ago we
asked why aren't they swinging the ball in and even
that moments this year, but they seem to have found
the rhythm and we've been ou at practice enough to
watch them play and it's all about keeping possession and
waiting for the right opportunity, and the Sounders do really
well there. So at least get across into the box

(49:52):
with Danny Lava and Knew who just a couple of
yards offside. But still even in that moment, knw Who's
got to know he's got to hit that ball across
the keeper or right to the ground at his feet.
Maybe it slips through the keeper's legs. So look for
that one again, I think tonight as the Sounders keep
moving the ball.

Speaker 11 (50:07):
Certainly New York have had a strong start or strong
ending to the year in terms of just performances. They've
got a really good win against New York Red Bulls
fell short of Philadelphia that secured their supporters shield win.
But it's been forty nine goals scored in their season
so far, only forty two goals giving up by New
York City. It was Miami that got almost ten percent

(50:31):
of those goals for nil loss two goals by Messy
and that was here in New York. So they're still
licking their wounds off that one. They'll be looking to
try and finish off strong in this regular season. Here
decision day in MLS. All the Western Conference games still
to come up six pm Pacific time, or all those

(50:55):
Western Conference games, and most all has been sealed up.
It's just those final two slots now, Colorado San Jose
sitting below the line. It's gonna be Dallas and RSL
just sit above the line right now. But just a
couple of points between all those teams, and the ball
goes back to Freeze. US men's national team player of course,

(51:17):
just signed a fresh contract about a month ago that
keeps him in New York till twenty thirty. And it
comes to elevator coming off that left hand side, just
drops the ball to JP and then clattered into by
New York City man Fernando's macau.

Speaker 6 (51:33):
A good start for the Sounder is Brett. Yeah, you
have to say for the Sounders a good start away
from home. But the record showed this year right, only
four wins on the road, I think for the Sounders,
which is uncharacteristic of Sounders teams in the past. But
it's about how you finish. So can you pick up
a victory here on the road with a good start.
We all know, yes, good starts are great, but you
have to have a tangible goal or two at the

(51:54):
end of this one to feel like you've had a
successful trip, and hopefully for the Sounders is keeping it
to zero in the back once again, reach shoutouts in
a row for the boys and especially heading into the playoffs,
going away from home first is going to be a
difficult task.

Speaker 11 (52:07):
Paul played free kick played short by Rusnek picked up
by New York Kid. That come in transitions where they
can be dangerous far side the left as a ball
gets whipped in all the way through, it's gonna skip
through and Russneck could play that. Initial free kicks have
to chase it down deep, not what your number ten
wants to do is a little apology to as much
as center back, so have to trot all the way

(52:28):
up the field and then sprint all the way back.
It's good to have him back in the team and
it's gonna be interesting. We talked about it, the attacking four.
Is this the four that Brian Schwetz who has identified
now as the four that could take them into the playoffs?

Speaker 6 (52:42):
Yeah, I don't know. I still think that Paul Rothrock
has to be in the mix. He's knocking on the door.
But if you look at experienced players and those that
have gotten your results this year, I think Paul Rothrock
is right there as well. So it's really hard to
keep these four off the field. Though, when you talk
about big games and hey, sus has really come to
life in the past two months, right, He's really showed

(53:04):
what he can do. And I think we were asking
questions of him early on this season of when are
we going to see that player that we saw at
FC Dallas, who took control of games, who made things
happen all up and down the field. And I think
he's come into that role. And that's with bouncing around
from left, right and center, right hand side.

Speaker 11 (53:19):
New York City brings it in shinned away by Alex
Royal darn if in doubt knock it out, which he
just did, thrown out for a corner on this near
side for New York ten yards or so from the
corner flag. Alex now played in the right hand side
of the three of course last week, and then slotted
into central midfield when needed as well played goalkeeper of

(53:44):
course as Alex so I pretty much played in every
single position, one of the anchor foundational players in terms
of experience. Now it comes New York on their right
hand side with Fernandez, Macau just drops the ball backler
nibble by you who it's gonna be Martinez, He's gonna
roll it all the way back. Captain for New York

(54:05):
City Matt Freeze, as you mentioned, national team player, certainly
in Pochettino's plans, as is a certain Christian rolled on
and to assist against Australia. Good solid performance, lots of
positive comments coming out of head coach Pochettino after the game,
and you talk about timing as a player, Brad playing

(54:26):
well at the right time and for Christian he's found
himself in camp at the right time performing well.

Speaker 6 (54:31):
Yeah, look, I think I look back on my career
and my opportunity with the under twenties came after qualification
and a player got injured and Ziggy saw me play
in college and say, hey, let's give this guy a try,
And that's when I see the opportunity. We were only
two and a half, two and a half months out
from the Under twenty World Cup, and the same is
kind of happening right now for Christian.

Speaker 11 (54:52):
It comes j P. Tris to flick it through, It
takes a deflection, it has to be chased down by
Gray and then hook down the line being should have
Alex ho holdan coming in. Good play by Alex. He
hooks the ball down a little pushing the back, good
play by JP. All the experience there felt the pressure
went down. It's gonna be a free kick in a
good spot on his left hand side for good delivery

(55:14):
by Rosnik.

Speaker 6 (55:14):
Yeah, just to go back to Christian, it's the right
opportunity in the right time. And you never know when
your name is gonna get called. But that has been
Christian throughout his entire career. You never know when your
name's gonna get called, and he's always stepped up and
played in big moments and been such a pivotal point
for this team. And then Jp on the flip side
of that, you get injured, possibly in acl what's the
mental kind of effect of that one. But he stepped

(55:36):
in and filled in that role really, really well. And
you see that veteran experience winning a free kick in
dangerous areas.

Speaker 11 (55:42):
Rosnick whipped him with his right foot. Good delivery is
headed up and away by New York and then Fernandez
macaw or cushioned header and then given away by New York,
kept by Danny Labor, then given away and Cross comes
rolls on, taking no chances, just hooks it away with
his right foot, no nonsense defending by Alex so far.

Speaker 6 (56:00):
Yeah twice now, just come in at the last moment
to get it in with his toes. Just send it
out of bounds. And as a center back, those are
the dangerous ones, right if you go to ground there
you might commit a foul if the attacker gets to
the ball first. Alex, I mean he showed his prowess
now and being able to play just a few years
ago really as a right winger. And you know, ten
to twelve assists on a year and now he finds

(56:20):
himself consistently as a right back, and now it's the
center back for multiple games. And it goes to the
soccer iq right. We've talked about it last week and
he and his brother both have it in space.

Speaker 11 (56:32):
It comes New York down their left hand side. A
tool comes in, cleared by roll John with his right foot.
Again right place, right time so far. For Alex, of course,
was the mercurial number ten playmaker for CLU under a
certain pete feuing. It comes New York down their left
hand side, far side. The left wins the throw in again.

(56:55):
Ty Confines of city field. His place was packed to
the brim with messy not quite as full today, but
well that good atmospheres. Fernandez Macaw has it the number
seven Argentinian. It's gonna be a free kick. So let
me just catch you a quick question from a playing
standpoint playing on slightly tight to confines, like, how does
it change the dynamics of the game. Obviously the basics

(57:17):
are that there's less time and space, But in terms
of preparation for this, is it something you just have
to adapt to on the field at the time.

Speaker 6 (57:23):
Yeah, I think the sounders probably this week we're training
on a field that was this, that was this. I
guess you'd say skinny thin, right. Not oftentimes do you
get to play on fields like this. I mean, I
remember my time's playing against Kansas City a community one ballpark,
same thing. And it's not just that it's tighter. It's
the site lines all around the field where you think
there should be a fan in a certain area, and
your brain remembers this for thirty plus games in a season,

(57:45):
and then all of a sudden there's open space. So
it's more the dimensions of the of the area that
you're playing in versus just the field. I mean, the
Sounders have played Open Cup games in the past, they've
had to play Conker, CAF Champions League, whatever it may be, traveling,
So I actually I think this plays into the Sounders'
hands tonight. If they can keep the ball in tight areas,
in good spaces, I think it'll work into their favor.

(58:07):
I mean, I remember when when Obed was on the
team in Clint and we went there and just destroyed
New York City and it was basically the The Obafemi
Martin Show on that day. And I think it's going
to take a moment of brilliance tonight to get in
the back of the net. But the Sounders, I mean
they're up for the task. And at this point in
the season, you think they've seen it all. I think
there's just a good opportunity to be road warriors tonight.

Speaker 11 (58:31):
Sounders have it on their left hand side. Now, a
little run inside by delevag I try to get involved.
Sixteen minutes gone here nil nil New York City Sounders,
And this score update is presented by Toyo to nil
nil between East versus West Well of Sports Radio nine
to fifty k AM today. Tough loss by the Huskies

(58:52):
in the Big House, but what a game yesterday in Seattle.
The marin is putting a smile on everyone's face, is
walking around the city today. Let's see what they can
do on their travels. Leading three games to two. So
resilience is a message that Brian Schmittz likes to give
a lot, and certainly the Mariners stubbed their toe in
those two first home games, burned down to the Blue Jays,

(59:17):
but then they managed to pick things up. As Della
vegas on that that's a nasty look. We're looking down
on our screen here, Brad, and that looked like a
nasty little looks like.

Speaker 6 (59:27):
It might be as his kneecap there.

Speaker 11 (59:30):
Maybe just looking at the replay here and how he
twisted it, I don't have to see if that's gonna
be something you can get up from or if that's.

Speaker 6 (59:37):
Yeah, if we're not seeing multiple camera views after the play,
they must have seen something there. Yeah, that didn't look
good for for Pedro there and clearly screaming for the
for someone to come across it. Well, there was nothing
malicious in it really. Yeah, he's definitely grimacing in his face,
calling over what looks to be the orthopedic doctor. Maybe. Yeah,

(01:00:01):
that one looks like a tough one for Pedro. I
think they may have shown a replay in the stands
because you hear the fans kind of groaning a little
bit in the background.

Speaker 11 (01:00:09):
It's like a twist and just the wrong pressure at
the wrong angle. And we'll see what the coaching staff
and the medical staff will do with this for medical
stuff around Pedro right now, just checking on his knee
concern from Fello Argentinian Morales number ten from Rosario, same

(01:00:33):
location and hometown as Messy of course, and we'll see
if we get an introduction of Paul Rothrock.

Speaker 13 (01:00:39):
Now, so.

Speaker 11 (01:00:42):
Events that we don't ever want to see as a
player going down injured. And we just see this replay now, Brad,
maybe you can walk through it and.

Speaker 6 (01:00:47):
See what he wasn't there. It's on this turn, almost
looks like his knee hits his knee and offsets his
Almost looks like his kneecap may have gotten dislocated there.
It looked like, right, I don't know, that's a scary one.

Speaker 11 (01:01:02):
Yep, got shifted down. There's still some concern, lots of
medical stuff around Pedrod it right now, Albert Rosneck sitting
next to him. Well, tonight's match is presented by the
Western Washington Toyota Dealers, and A's Pedro gets some care
and attention for the medical stuff. Let's just flip to
Christian rolled On and Pochettino and what the next camp

(01:01:27):
will look like for him, of course, And I mean
we talk about a game of games. The US and
men's nation team will play a group game here in Seattle,
and it's definitely conceivable that Christian Roldan could play a part.

Speaker 6 (01:01:40):
Yeah, yeah, I'm looking at part of World Cup qualifying
in twenty fourteen. We played here against Panama in twenty thirteen,
myself and Eddie Johnson, and it was it's really hard
to put into words what I think that meant to
both of us. And to be able to play here
in Seattle. Obviously you walk out and it's a sea
of red, white and blue, but you know that that's
your home. And we that the fans were gonna show

(01:02:02):
up and show out, and they sure did on that
day and we go on to win that game. I
think Eddie scored in that game as well. And for
Christian no how have the opportunity to do it with
a with a World Cup right, that just adds so
much to it. To do it here in Seattle would
be incredible. Now, there's a lot of work to do
for Christian. I think he's at an old enough age
now where win comments are made, Like Pochettino said, like

(01:02:25):
if you could carve out your ultimate soccer player, it
would basically be in the image of a Christian rolled on.

Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
I think he can live up to that.

Speaker 6 (01:02:34):
I think his shoulders are big enough and he's at
an old enough age now where those comments don't really
affect him. He's gonna play his game and do it well.
He knows what got him here to this point and
now can he put it into practice. And I think
for him it's just about staying healthy at this point.

Speaker 11 (01:02:50):
It certainly is for him. It's he's been a resilient player.
Of course, he's had issues with some back to back concussions.
Of course, that cats him out for a good while.
He and Alex both suffered from concussions in the last
couple of years. But we're seeing Paul Rothrock now warming up.
It's going to be a likeful like switch for Brian Schmitze.
There was probably a decision that he had to make

(01:03:11):
with his coaching staff on which attacking three to sit
behind Jordan Morris. But there's a long, long delay here.
There's gonna be a lot of time added on the
end of this first half as sound as players just
need to mentally reset and Brad maybe talk about as
a player when you have an injury like this and
a long pause, especially a concern. We saw it Stephen Fry.
Of course, that was at the very end of the

(01:03:33):
game that they managed to think as Nanca and Schmitz
came together and just kind of ended the game, but
this one is obviously a lot different in this first half.

Speaker 6 (01:03:42):
Yeah, I think going over this one again for those
that are listening. It was not malicious, right, It was
just a twist. It was a freak little accident. But
I think for the guys to regroup. Now you see
Schwetz and his staff talking to the players. You now
see Steph JP talking to the players. It's about coming
together and you always expect as a player these things
could happen, right, And when we're taught, you now have

(01:04:04):
to get switched on and switched in. It's not like
just the Sounders team has now stopped to play. It's
also New York City, right, both teams in a little
bit of a rhythm, Sounders a little bit more so.
Now it's up. Can the Sounders come together as a
group and get back into a rhythm. But these long stoppages,
I mean we're at five or six minutes already, as
Pedro kind of wheeled off, yep.

Speaker 11 (01:04:26):
Just to give a bit of a picture of what
is happening right now, Petro's right on the sideline. He's
now being picked up by a stretcher. So sad to
see as he was coming back to his really best form,
of course, and he's just picked up now put on
a medical cart that's on the field. Fans are standing
up giving a round of applause, of course, and Pedro's

(01:04:47):
going to be driven off and given some attention I'm
sure inside the dressing room medical area before potentially having
to go off. So maybe a medical facility somewhere in
the city here, So we're about as far away from
home as you can get, so not helpful necessarily for
the sounds and their medical staff. Some foreign surroundings around here,

(01:05:10):
but they'll get well taken care of. Paul Rothrock now
comes on, so for Brian Schmidt, so he's going to
get a lightful like switch, but not in a manner
in which you'd want in any day. As Dela Vega
gets sub doubt due to injury, and then Paul Rothrock's
got to come on that left hand side. It's gonna
be a lightful like switch for goal seven assists man

(01:05:32):
is Paul Rothrock. And now the players are going to
have to reset and get themselves in a position where
they can refocus on the game because we've got a
lot of time left.

Speaker 6 (01:05:44):
Bread Yeah, and Pedro's coming off right now just clapping
his hands gives the little thumbs up, and the New
York City fans as well clapping him off, just a
little respect coming off the field there. But you got
to feel for Pedro at this moment, right, He's battled
back from last year's significant injuries that kept him out
for a long time, and like you said, playing is
playing his best soccer as of late. And then to

(01:06:05):
come off the field with another one. You know, hopefully
it's if it is just a ptel at tent a
patella like kneecap, right, that it can just be shifted
back into place and in a couple of weeks you're
kind of you're kind of back into the mix, we
hope for best case scenario. But now for the Sounders,
this quick shift into straight into playing, can they get
into a rhythm quickly? That's the one that they've been

(01:06:27):
looking for significantly, right, just trying to unlock Jordan Morris
and using his speed and anything they can do to
get Jordan in behind to get him a couple opportunities
on goal. And how important would it be for the
Sounders to get him to today heading into the playoffs
As you're you know, your DP at the end of
the day, we forget that Jordan. I think we forget
sometimes that Jordan is a DP, one of the highest

(01:06:47):
paid players on the team page to score goals, so
that pressure is building on him as well.

Speaker 11 (01:06:52):
Harry is now on the right hand side, run inside
by Kilan. He cuts it back to Jordan, goes down.
Referee's looking at it and is a penalty. Brilliant play
by Jordan. Came off that right hand side, he fed
it into Kilaney. They'll reverse pass back into the run
of Jordan Morris and he saw the pressure of Martin's
coming across. He took a touch past him, felt the

(01:07:13):
pressure went down and it's a penalty kick.

Speaker 6 (01:07:16):
Yeah, we'll see about this one. It was a little
late from the referee. Jordan looked to go down pretty
easy on this one. We'll have to wait to see
a replay. It's well done by Jordan. Look, it's simple,
simple soccer given. Gold gets down the line and then
it's a run from Klannie inside the box and he
does all the right things. Pull this one back. Jordan's
gets a touch of the ball. Yeah, I don't think
that's a pen Let's wash it here in slow motion

(01:07:37):
It depends on it's if he gets his foot. We
can't really tell from this angle. That's a little soft.

Speaker 11 (01:07:42):
So the question always is is there enough evidence to
turn it over? Was that contact and if there was contact,
by default he went down. Can they turn that over?
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (01:07:50):
Yeah, they'll have to send it to VR to make
Chris Pencil think about this one.

Speaker 11 (01:07:56):
Yeah, Chris Pencer. Referee down below VR is Jeff Gamble,
So we'll see what mister Gamble make of this. Sounders
New York City players well, New York City have pleaded
in their case. Of course, Sounder is right. Now have
the ball in the hands of Ruzzneck and that's gonna

(01:08:16):
be VR check. Referee's gonna do it, and whenever we
see that now, most likely he has been given the
information he needs just to validate on the field. It
looks like this one's coming back.

Speaker 6 (01:08:26):
Brad, Yeah, I think so. I mean, Martin's does all
the right things here and just puts enough pressure. But
I unless there's something in slow motion here where he
steps on his foot that makes Jordan lose his balance.
So here it is a good angle. Jordan clearly touches
the ball first and doesn't step on his foot at all.

(01:08:49):
Jordan tries to drag his foot across, but that's not
gonna be enough. I think that'll be a good enough
view for Chris pen Soul to overturn this one.

Speaker 11 (01:08:57):
Yeah, the view we're looking at is as Martin's could
his right foot down, you could see the toe in
the full foot of Marris just behind it.

Speaker 6 (01:09:06):
But you know what Jordan has to do here when
he touches this ball, He's got to lean into Martin's
right He's got to lean in and try to get
as much contact as he can on the ball. I mean,
you have to think if this was going in the
other way and Jackson Reagan did that to one of
their strikers, you say, absolutely no penalty. He exactly if
a player does that, throws up their arms like they're
on a roller coaster.

Speaker 11 (01:09:25):
Well, it's been interesting with Jordan Marris missed the penalty
last week. Would he have been given the responsibility to
step up and here's the referees. He's gonna put his
VR check.

Speaker 6 (01:09:33):
And tell us.

Speaker 11 (01:09:39):
You have you hear from the chairs from the crowd,
decision of penalties being overturned, and Jordan Marris is probably
gona give a little high five to Martinez.

Speaker 6 (01:09:49):
Yeah, but look, the build up to the play was brilliant.
Hey ready, wasson, Let's not forget it started out out
of the back and some really good play from the
Sounders coming through the midfield. Decent opportunity.

Speaker 11 (01:10:03):
Well sound as FC Socket is presented by Provident, Swedish
official healthcare partner of Sounders. FC's we get here in
the twenty ninth minute nil nil New York City Sounders
here in city field in the New York City area
and borough of Queen's Kilane stuffs another ball a little short?
Is that twice now in this first half? As Kilane

(01:10:24):
which just misplayed that ball backwards. We're on nine fifty
am here in New York They New York habit play
at square. Jackson Reagan right place, right time, just gets
his left boot and who sit forward? Jordan Morris scrapping
for it. Should I find anything right now to get

(01:10:45):
on the score sheet? Of course Jordan missed League's Cup.
As the ball goes in good run by New York
City towards the end line, great defending by rolled on again.
He goes down to the deck and the cutback ran
right into all don shin over the end line. It
goes corner. Good defending by Alex.

Speaker 6 (01:11:03):
Great defending. These are the toughest ones. I thought he'd
hit it right there, but insteads Alexa get to the byline,
cuts it back on a forty five. Alex does all
the right things, block the low, the low ball right,
let everything go high. Steph can deal with that. Jackson
can deal with it, but you have to take away
one of the options. I think if you stay on
your feet and you reach, might go through your legs
and be in the back of the net. Well done.

Speaker 11 (01:11:23):
There's Morales from New York left hand side. It's gonna
be with his right foot. It's going to be an
in swinger with that right foot, and it comes low
towards the near corner of the six, cleared by Jordan.
Morris with his right foot just clips it over the
halfway line and the ball has to go all the
way back by O'Toole to the goalkeeper. Knocks it forward,
just slices off his right foot. He's going to bounce.

(01:11:45):
It's be easily collected by Jackson. Reagan on this near
side rolls it in square to JP who's been efficient
so far as JP and Danny Labor, not too much
pressure coming through the sound As midfield so far. Very
much like RSL last week, where JP was able to
maybe get over the minute count that Brian initially maybe
had planned for him, just a man in which the game.

Speaker 6 (01:12:07):
Went Brad Yeah, yeah, And I think JP has showed
it you can play that role and keep the ball.
You're gonna extend your minutes, You're gonna extend your career.
It's when JP gets in moments and the Sounders get
under pressure where he has to chase side to side
and the Sounders feel like they're under the gun. That's
where JP gets in trouble because he just doesn't have
the quickness just yet. But he's got Danny Lava right

(01:12:27):
beside him, and something we talked about this week with Dany,
he's been fantastic. But for me, I see a change
in the first forty five minutes and the second forty
five minutes. He puts so much effort in him, covers
so much ground that he needs to be more like
JP and pick and choose his moments a bit better.
Then he becomes a full, complete ninety minute player and
not just a ninety minute player, but a ninety minute
impact player.

Speaker 11 (01:12:48):
As the ball goes fort toor Jordan Marsh tries to
knock it back, giving up picked up now by New
York City in the center circle, rolls it in square
quickly to Martinez, but won by the Sounder is now
the foot of Russneck tries to thread the needle in behind.
Here comes Jordan Morris left side of the eighteen yard
book track, well by Martin's and it's going to be
a thrown deep, deep on the Sounders left hand side.

(01:13:10):
As we're looking at Sounder's attacking the goal to our left,
Neil Neil Sounders, New York just after the thirty minute mark.
We expect to have a good number of minutes of
added time. Pedro de la Vega unfortunately picked up an
injury was carted off the field. Paul Rothrock now playing
on that left hand side.

Speaker 26 (01:13:29):
Well.

Speaker 11 (01:13:30):
This corporated audio cast of Major League Soccer may not
be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without their express rint consent
of Major League Soccer. It's gonna be a long throw
for the Sounders on this left hand side with Paul
Rothrock in it comes narrow confines of the field low,
the balls to go deep into the eighteen yard box
headed by GP back to Paul left hand side, twenty

(01:13:50):
five yards from the end line, just hugging this near
touch line as the ball goes back to Alex rolled
on in his own half of the field too. Knew
who so mentioned. Back from international duty, a good number
of players, oh bet Christian just left at home to
recover from their travels and play. Of course, Christian played

(01:14:11):
a good number of minutes just a few days ago
against Australia where he got two assists. Of the ball
bounces through and it comes and for JP, Brad and
Danny it's a perfect field tykon fines, not too much
real estate to cover, but the challenges playing with pressure
and ball under pressure, and those two can do it
any day of the week.

Speaker 6 (01:14:29):
Yeah, exactly. It's gonna save their legs at the end
of the day. And you wouldn't think that, you know,
four or five yards on either side of the field
is going to change the game that much, but it
really does. If you've done any training with youth teams
and you start it small and then you make it
just a little bit bigger, somehow things start to connect
just a little bit more so for those two it's
going to be how they sit together in that midfield.
Let Rusnak do some work in front of you, and

(01:14:51):
let Jordan too. Why not on a field like this,
the Sounders away from home can let New York City
have the ball in the back, let Jordan drop back
a little bit deeper, and r two sixers can basically
just sit and hope that they don't have to cover
too much ground as players get in and out of position.

Speaker 11 (01:15:07):
Ball on the left hand side for New York City
try to wriggle through a couple of green shirts. There's
o'tool on the far side, wins the court. Actually whin's
the thrown on the far side five yards from the
corner flag, quickly thrown into Morales. Sunda starts stepping up
their line top of their eighteen yard box. The ball
goes back to martinz and then square into Gray finds

(01:15:33):
Gustavo far side the left picked up by O'Toole just
drops it back and it goes to Maxim. Morales able
to turn with no real pressure left hand side and
cuts the ball back to Martinez top of the box.
Referee doesn't think anything of it crowd won a foul.
Nothing given by Chris Pensul, the man in the middle.

(01:15:58):
It's already made a big call Vrch. It was a
penalty given and then it was overturned on Jordan Morris.
As you mentioned, Jordan needs a goal. It feels like
six goals since the league's cut final. Had a chance
last week from the penalty spot, wasn't able to convert.
And it just feels Brad getting Jordan on the score

(01:16:19):
sheet before the playoffs and any which way is what
Brian Schmezer probably wants.

Speaker 6 (01:16:23):
Yeah, and that was just it was a perfect opportunity.
I got to speak with Andy Rose on Sunday and
he was like, look, we've been taking penalty kicks since
Pete before the beginning part of this year because we
knew what tournaments were coming up, just in case. And
he said Jordan's penalties were unbelievable. It goes right side
top wins every single time, and I think the group
was confident. He was confident. It just didn't work out.

Speaker 11 (01:16:44):
Dan Leba tries to thread the needle into a Rosnak,
just skips by Rosnak over the end line. It goes
it's going to be a goal kick for New York
Neil nil here thirty five minute mark. As he mentioned,
we will tick past that forty five minute mark with
some significant added time because of an injury to Pedro
de la Vega had to be carted off the field unfortunately,
look like some kneecap injury and we'll get a read

(01:17:07):
on that, I'm sure after the game. We'll see if
Brian Schmidtz has some news to share in his press
conference or something next week.

Speaker 6 (01:17:13):
But we know what was interesting when Ziggi was the coach.
Before the game, he'd write down the lineup and then
he would always put the two penalty kick takers on
a sheet, and so whoever it was on that week,
it was one or two, the whole group knew what
was going to happen. And Schmitzer doesn't do that with
the squad. He gives it up to the team to
make the decision on the field.

Speaker 11 (01:17:31):
Here's New York towards the endline Wolf trusted Wriggle free
eleven gold Men is Wolf the second and goals to
just Martinez and number sixteen.

Speaker 6 (01:17:42):
As a couple of New.

Speaker 11 (01:17:44):
York players comes and puts pressure on, but calmly back
to Alex Roldan who plays the pull through two blue
shirts and finds Ruzneck. If there's a player that can
receive the ball in the pressure is that man Albert
who does regular the pressure and then plays it square
quickly into Danny Labor, who again earned his opportunity today
based on his practice and also his performance last week

(01:18:06):
against RSL where he did play alongside JP and Bran.
Schmetz was asked about the concern maybe of not having
Obed and Christian together in the middle of the park,
and as common was well, Danny and JP have never
let me down when playing together, and they've played times together.
Of course at the beginning parts of the season when
we had a whole congestion of conker CAFT Champions Cup games,

(01:18:27):
MLS games, was that rotation, and they've had some games
under their belt and if nothing else, they're playing together
every single day and practice against the starting eleven.

Speaker 6 (01:18:35):
Yeah, and look for Danny Leva. I think the biggest
jump for him was going on loan last year into
a different into a different team and a different environment
and to really take control. He did really well. I
think Kilane's picked up a bloody nose here. On eron
elbow as the play kind of stops. So for Danny Leva,
it has been the evolution for him. But let's not
forget he's the one who came in here before the

(01:18:57):
other guys stepped into their roles the youngsters, and he
was supposed to be the next big thing. But he's
now just kind of finding that maturity in that form
and the patience. When he came in, he was extremely athletic.
He was able to wiggle out of every situation. But
now you're seeing a smarter player, and I think that
does a lot to you. When you have to go
away from home, you get out of your environment, you

(01:19:17):
have kind of have to grow up quick, even at
his young age. But he's come back into the Sounders
and stayed hungry. That's a difficult position to be in.
You come you don't know when your number is going
to be cold, and that's always difficult. So for him,
credit to Danny for always stepping in being a team player.
But he's got some really good mentors around him, and
luckily he's paired with JP who's been through it for years.

Speaker 11 (01:19:38):
Well, big score to update you on Charlotte playing Philadelphia
in Charlotte. We thought it might be a tough game
for Charlotte playing it's the support a Shield champs in Philadelphia,
but of course Philly not anything to play for other
than finishing off the season strong. But it's going to
be it's too nil right now to Charlotte. They were
in fourth position coming into the games this evening, New

(01:20:00):
York City sitting right in fifth, and as a reminder
of the top four get home field advantage and the
best of three games in the first round proper. And
then so five, six, seven, and eight will travel in
that first game eight versus nine will be a midweek
playoff game, single game elimination game to see who plays
and qualifies in that first round proper, they will sit

(01:20:22):
as the eighth seed. And for the Sounders, they're still waiting,
and they'll have to wait a little longer. Probably when
they get off their plane coming back home, they'll know
exactly who they're playing, because the Sounders still have a
question mark on who they play.

Speaker 6 (01:20:37):
Right now.

Speaker 11 (01:20:37):
It's Minnesota sitting fourth, but you've also got LAFC in
San Diego sitting in third and second, and things could
shake out where any of those three teams could be
the opposition for the Sounders, and that two, three and
four could circulate through and change up and right, I'll
last you on the road to Minnesota, on the road
to LAFC, on the road to San Diego. Where would

(01:20:59):
you money being? Where you who do you want to play?

Speaker 6 (01:21:02):
Yeah? Well least out of those three, I'd want to
play LAFC right now, Right, I think with those two
up front have scored something like seventeen out of the
last nineteen goals for them, which is absolutely incredible between
Bologo and Sun and just the history between the two
powerhouse clubs in the West. Now, Minnesota doesn't scare me
as much as San Diego does. I think San Diego

(01:21:24):
playing in a four to three to three it really
the challenge for the Sounders was how did they play
out of that pressure? And they got caught multiple times,
whether it was in Seattle or or down in San Diego.
And then you have the results against Minnesota not ideal either, Right,
you have a draw in Minnesota was the latest result.
They sit back in a five to three two. Play

(01:21:45):
for set pieces. Are the Sounders the best at defending
set pieces? Not really this year, but scoring set pieces?
They haven't been great either, and so I think i'd
take Minnesota out of that group just because they don't
really have that gusto going forward that I think San
Diego does.

Speaker 11 (01:22:03):
I agree, you think the best of three, Minnesota might
give you the best chance of winning two of those
three games, and then it's a single elimination game. You'll
be on the road. Yes to LAFC, San Diego, whoever
it might be at that time. But for the Sounders,
I think Minnesota would be a good bet. They'll give
possession up, but they've been effective in the manner in

(01:22:25):
which they've played. It comes to corner caick now for
New York. Whipped in, headed clear by Jordan, not convincingly,
and then hacked over the top by Gray with his
weaker left foot, goes high and wide into the stand
behind Steph and FRI's goal. It's gonna be a goal
kick forty minute mark here, New York nil, Sounders Nils.
You get here on decision Day in MLS final game

(01:22:47):
of the regular season, Sounders have fifth position all wrapped up.
The question now is who do they play? And I'll
have to wait just a little longer. They're playing on
that eastern conference schedule today is East versus West. Fifteen
team in each conference, there's always gonna be that odd
one out. For this year, it's Sounders in New York
and here comes New York over lapping run by otool,

(01:23:08):
drop of the shoulder and it gets it coming off
an off side position but managed to hold it. Perea
in behind in support has the ball. Now goes back
to Gustava, rolls it across to Martinz dead center of
the middle of the field, comes out to this near
sight to great down the line. It goes heavy on
the pass. Sounds will take that all day long. It's

(01:23:28):
gonna be a goal kick.

Speaker 6 (01:23:29):
No, No, here's the difference you see in a Sounders
team versus New York City. Yes, New York City has
some incredible athletes, but when it comes to those pivotal
moments of making the right pass when the moment should
should be, the Sounders provide it more often than not.
And I think that's what we'll propel this team is
just that maturity and the constant training on when we're
in moments of pressure, can we keep the ball and
really fight through. Sounders started off this game I think fantastic,

(01:23:52):
multiple opportunities, possession, swinging the ball side to side, and then,
just like a couple of weeks ago, you get a
couple of injuries and it kind of takes the win
out of the Sales on the night, and I think
the Sounders since that injury happened, I've kind of been
fighting just to get into halftime, maintained possession, no real
clear cut opportunities. JP gets caught with the ball now
it's Danny Labor. New York City have to ratchet up

(01:24:14):
if they want any any opportunity to buy for that
fourth place spot.

Speaker 11 (01:24:19):
We'll played by JP on Perea. But O'Toole has it,
rolls it out to the far side the left of
Morales just cuts it back to O'Toole one goal, one
assist on his campaign, has made a couple of overlapping
runs on that left hand side. It's Gray has it
of comes Fernandez mcau really clean left foot does mccau

(01:24:42):
Breness Airi's Argentinian native four goals, eleven assists on his
campaign this year. Starvo receives it fast side the left
is Morales just finding pocketsas basically launched it towards the
back post. Won by Fernandez Macau against Knew who has
knew who goes in a little bit clumsily maybe and
then just Macaw goes down referee and the sister referee

(01:25:03):
is not given anything.

Speaker 13 (01:25:04):
So far.

Speaker 11 (01:25:06):
Martinez isn't able to handle the clearance. August Ricochet is
off the New York Captain's shins. Referee got something in
his earpiece, told him to keep going. Nothing there on
that challenge by Knew who. You need to be a
little bit careful. It's heart and mouth time sometimes I
knew who goes flying over there?

Speaker 6 (01:25:26):
Well, you build a reputation for yourself too. I think
every time the referee has to right, maybe just tuck
his ear piece in a little tighter to make sure
he doesn't hear anything calming in when it's Knew who
making a tackle.

Speaker 11 (01:25:39):
Sounders have it in there attacking half of the field
now with raw Dodge rolls it out to the far
side with Kilany's got two tissues stuffed in his nose
after so that maybe just got a little collision the
cause of bloody nose as Labor plays it around the
corner well to JP who's been calm and composed in

(01:25:59):
the middle of the park. And Ferrera getting a little
bit of the ball. It's been a little quiet in
this first half as Ferrera, but he's finding those pockets
of space and certainly almost shining lights so far this season.
It took him a little while to get going, as
you'd expect coming from Dallas, his hometown club hadn't played
anywhere else except Dallas, and then took the opportunity to
change things up and reboot his career to some extent,

(01:26:22):
even though he's top of the pier when it comes
to goals for any player below the age of twenty five,
hit that mark this year where he went past Landon Donovan.

Speaker 6 (01:26:32):
Yeah, I think for Verira, you rarely rarely see him
lose the ball or make the wrong decision and you
have to have guys like that on the field. Now
if you could just get him going offensively as well.
He doesn't really have the keys to the car like
he did in Dallas, and that changes the way that
you play. He's still trying to find his footing of
exactly how he fits into this Sounders team number one,
and I think what made FC Dallas a great team

(01:26:54):
was heesus Ferrara and we need to get to the
point here with the sounders where the sounders have to
make him a great player too and really allow him
to shine. Just haven't really unlocked where he's where, Where
is he best at? Is he a number nine? Is
he withdrawn number nine? Is her right winger a number ten?
So he's played multiple positions, So credit to him for
still putting his head down and more often than not

(01:27:16):
making the right decision.

Speaker 11 (01:27:17):
New York have It corner of the eighteen yobox flicks
away by Jackson, just finds the foot of Ananda's mcow strike.
Top of the books. Great save byfe Freud, who is
left flung himself to his left hand side bulsolly and
eventually goes up. Maybe it was an assistant refreeze flight
came up for the rebounded rebound from stef and Fry's safe.
But again Stephen Fry, the critical moment stands strong, makes

(01:27:40):
a great safe.

Speaker 6 (01:27:41):
Yeah, what an awkward player here. Ball swung in Jackson
last ditch effort and then it's new who applying pressure
and then a swing and a miss and then a
shot from the top of the box. Stephen Fry makes
a great save. Just a little slit ball top of
the eighteen actually comes off an ankle. It's a decent
strike there and a good save, strong hand Stephan Fry.

Speaker 11 (01:28:02):
There's Frying with possession of the ball, just clips it
out to the far side and headed forward by Colone.
We'll played by for just as Brad Evans mentioned, keeping
the ball, not giving the ball away and there's Colonie
wins the foul and the first yellow card of the game.
We'll spend like it matters by supporting BIPOC and diverse

(01:28:22):
owned businesses all year long. Visit intentionalist dot com to
find a business near you. There's a yellow cardon of tool.
We can affirm that. So seven minutes of any time,
all of it due to that injury on Della Vega
had to be carted off the field about twenty minutes
into the game, picked up a knee injury. We'll get
more reports and information as they come in, most likely

(01:28:45):
will be postgame from Brian Schmidtz all the club. But
very unfortunate for Pedro of course, and an unfortunate for
the club as well as gets that critical part of
the season as we enter the playoffs next week. But
there is a bit of hope in terms of Ryan
Kent as well, who's back in practice this week. Another

(01:29:06):
player that can play on that left hand side lightful
like position as Pedro, and of course Paul Rothrock is
a player that started most games this season has played
incredibly well. He comes off the bench and replaces Dela
Vega as Jackson brings the ball down and comfortably back
to Stephan Frye. Wherever you headed, Discount Tyre wants to
get you there safely. Shot for Tires with Treadwell your

(01:29:28):
personal tire guide at discount tire dot Com. Sounders nil.
New York City nil at City Field in New York City,
right next to the construction site for New York City's
brand new state and be based here in Queen's right
next to City Field. Ettie he Parker believe it's going

(01:29:48):
to be called.

Speaker 6 (01:29:49):
Now, what an opportunity for that club. You have to
do all these years, I mean over over ten years
now playing in a baseball stadium right, much like Sporting
Kansas City, you play inside Arrowhead, then you got to
go to a baseball stadium and then all of a sudden, oh.

Speaker 11 (01:30:04):
The advantage was given and then it was a yellow card.
The referee could have let things go JP got smashed down.
It was great play by JP, just flicked it around
the corner as the pressure came in. It's gonna be
a yellow card.

Speaker 6 (01:30:17):
But well, this is the second week in a row
that this has happened with these referees and Schmetz. When
I was doing sideline last week, Schmetz was incensed a
couple moments where let the play develop. It doesn't matter
if it's twenty seconds later, go ahead and call it
back or the Sounders don't get anything out of an
opportunity now because he's pulling the ball back. But the
Sounders are on the break regardless if it's a yellow
card or not. Certainly yellow card here, but then Paul

(01:30:39):
Rothrock's on a break moving forward. If we don't get
anything out it, then you stop to play and give
a yellow card after. It's like the opposite of the
off side rule now right, I was gonna say, this
is a referee s age offsides. Takes thirty forty seconds
for them to raise the flag. Something could happen. Here's
something does happen. The Sounders have an advantage and the
referee blows the whistle right away. A bit confusing.

Speaker 11 (01:31:02):
Efficient first half so far, as Coloney got a shirt
change no number on his back right now due to
that bloody nose, as Labor goes down and eventually wins
the foul from the second third to ten potentially, as
Peer goes in and just has a hack on Danny Laver,
who's been quietly efficient in this first half alongside JP.
But a chance from a set piece for the Sounders.

(01:31:23):
As we tick past the four minute mark of the
seven New York Neil Sounders nilness score date is presented
by Providence Swedish. I'm sure the message ringing in the
player's ears now is just keep things tight, nothing away.
Can you nick a goal before you go into the
locker room. It's going to be with Rusneck just flicks
it forward, headed away by Martinez, comes across, but it

(01:31:45):
can only knock it over the end line, and it's
going to be a corner kick for the sound There's
another chance from a set piece, and let's just reiterate
some of the challenges the Sounders have had in set
pieces and corner kicks. From one hundred and seventy five
corner kicks coming into today's game, they but only scored two.
Can they make it three headed clear and they can't.
So the number in the percentage continues to tick up

(01:32:09):
in terms of the lack of productivity from corner kicks.
In twenty twenty one f one hundred and fifty five
corner kicks nine goals. So Sounders have the height and
the size, and obviously the quality of delivery is just
a factor of I'm getting on the end of it.
But it comes to New York with two minutes ago
of the seven ball in behind is Perere inside the

(01:32:30):
eighteen yard box. We'll take that all day long. As
he hacks the ball over the crossbar, it was in
a shot, it wasn't a cross but here's a goalkick. Well,
they'll nil.

Speaker 6 (01:32:38):
And here's where the Sounders have to show their class.
You don't see that from a Sounders player that often.
You get in behind and you just have a willy
nilly effort right from a player who's in a decent
position but just not making the right decision. But the
Sounders have not found themselves in those positions just yet
today in this game. And that'll be the next step
at halftime for Schmidz to break it down. How can
we keep better possession in New York City's defensive third. Yes,

(01:33:02):
it's three or five in the back, however you want
to look at it. But we have to maintain possession
of the ball higher up the field and get into
these the spots that New York City have found a
few times here and put the Sounders under pressure.

Speaker 11 (01:33:16):
All goes back to roll down to Kohlan each to
look careful on that right hand side, goes back to Fry.
Who's gonna clip it forward? It's the tight confines. It's
just knocks it out of bounds. On the far side,
there's a thrown to New York City in that the
narrow confines of this field. Just it's that muscle memory
is he tries to clip the ball to the outside,

(01:33:37):
goes over the head of a Sounders player now rolled
on has it right hand side? Does the smart thing?
Whips it down the line? Morris heads it forward, clatter
it into by Gustavo, but no foul given by the referee.
Picked up now by JP who just launches the ball
up in the air. Fifteen seconds to go of this
first half, the ball gets clipped towards this near side

(01:33:58):
to New Can the Sounders get one more chance on
this left hand side ball whipped in, ball bounced around
top of the box, picked up by Perea and that
should be just about that. Smart foul by Kilane something
he doesn't pick it up a yellow card, but no
yellow card given as at this time by the referee,
and that should be just about that. As we wait
for Pete Fewing and Jackson fail to join us after

(01:34:19):
the break to give us all there analysis coming out
this first half, but for Brian Schmidt, so it was
a reset for the team. About the twenty two minute mark,
I say yellow card, I think by Freeze who came
out to try and argue his case, and the referee
should just pull this first half to a close. I

(01:34:40):
think they arguing the fact that there was two quick
fire yellow cards in New York and not one on Kilani.

Speaker 6 (01:34:45):
Yeah, I think it's fair and one is stopping the
play just like it was for the Sounders. I think
it's fair from Freeze and he's got enough experience and
thinks he's got a voice and Chris Pencil says, no,
you don't, there's a yellow card a voice, but he's
a yellow card.

Speaker 11 (01:35:01):
Sounders have it fast side. I'm ticking towards the eight
minute mark now of this seven so I'm not quite
sure what the referees adding on should bring this to
a finish. And there it is, just as a OTO's
about to throw it in, he blows to whistle of
the end of this first half. So no score to
speak of. The only bit of unfortunate action for the

(01:35:23):
Sounders will be the injury to Pedro de la Vega.
He had to go off in that first half, and
then Rothrock came on. But Brad your final.

Speaker 6 (01:35:32):
Thoughts, Yeah, I think Schmtze will go into the locker
room decently happy with how things have gone so far.
The Sounders with good possession early on, a couple half chances,
but still yet to create that real opportunity. And test
Matt Freeze in the box and he's going to have
to figure out how to unlock his attackers in this game.
Paul Rothrock comes in. Not really the same feel from
Paul Rothrock coming into this one. Usually you see him

(01:35:55):
yelling and getting into games. So the guys have to
up at just ten, ten to fifteen percent. I understand
you're not really playing for anything, but you are. You're
playing for momentum going into the playoffs and getting another
shut out on the road and putting in a good
performance to show that you should be starting. Come next week, We'll.

Speaker 11 (01:36:13):
Take a short break. Jackson Feltspete feud. We'll be back
to break everything down on decision Day. Here at halftime
at City Field in New York is New York City
FC nil Sounders nil.

Speaker 2 (01:38:49):
Forty five minutes in the book set City Field in
New York City, and it's Sounder zero NYCFC zero. There
is a lot to talk about though, from the first
fifth well, let's say fifty four minutes. It's what they
essentially played because there was about nine minutes added there
by our referee today after that first half, and there

(01:39:10):
is a lot to discuss. I will mention that today's
match is presented by the Western Washington Toyota Dealers. Also
that Mick Club Ultra is ninety five calories and two
point six grams of carbs. It's only worth it if
you enjoyed. Jackson Feltz and Pete viewing here for the
halftime show. Pete, we got to start with this twentieth minute.
Pedro de la Vega has a knee injury. A cart
stretcher came out took Pedro off the field. Paul Rothrock

(01:39:33):
came on a few minutes later for that left wing swap.
But what we don't have official word yet, But what
did you see from what happened to Pedro de la Vega.

Speaker 3 (01:39:43):
Yeah, as Brad and Danny said, it wasn't malicious. There
was no bad tackle or anything like that, but it
was awkward. As he Spaun and pirouetted to go up
the field, the knee seemed to do something out of
the norm. So and then as he landed, he looked
at his knee and pointed at his knee right away,

(01:40:03):
and it didn't look right.

Speaker 2 (01:40:05):
You got to you got a good look at the
knee and the replay and you wrote down. So I
don't know if you want to share it, but you
wrote down something to what you thought it could be. Yeah,
I'm no doctor, and we are We are no doctors, folks,
We are no doctors.

Speaker 3 (01:40:16):
My first thought was, because of the way he responded,
was that maybe a patilla dislocated ptella. It just looked
knee cap yead, It looked it looked just out of shape.
And so but again that's I don't think we're listen.

Speaker 4 (01:40:32):
We're not doctors, but we are.

Speaker 2 (01:40:34):
We are just you know, we are on the radio
right now talking about what we think in your experience
as a head coach, when a player has a dislocated kneecap,
what does that mean.

Speaker 3 (01:40:42):
It's not as bad as an acl for sure, it's
not as bad as a moniscus. It's get it back
in place and restrengthen it and bring it back. And
just by his response, I've dislocated a couple of things
and you just kind of go, man, that looks weird
and it's not painful. It's awkward, it is a little painful,
but it's not terrible. So that's what I kind of

(01:41:03):
that was my first when I was watching it live,
not even in the replay. Right away, I thought, that's
what that looked like. So and there wasn't a lot
of panic with the with the medical staff, like a
broken bone.

Speaker 6 (01:41:17):
Or something like that.

Speaker 2 (01:41:18):
So we did just get official word, and this is
what we can share. Official word is a right knee
injury for Pedro dalea Vega. That's all we have official,
a right knee injury to Pedro dale Vega. So that
is the big news to come out of that first half. Also,
there was a penalty called var looked at it. Jordan
Morris did not get stepped on in the box, so

(01:41:40):
a penalty was rescinded, so that led us to the
zero zero score. I would just very quickly say, if
you're going to say that Jordan Morris didn't get stepped
on and he still made the dive, isn't that simulation
question mark?

Speaker 4 (01:41:55):
But that's all I'll say about that. It's a zero
zero game at the half.

Speaker 2 (01:41:58):
We'll talk about some keys to the second half in
a zero zero game between Seattle and NYCFC. That's next
on the halftime show Sports Radio nine fifty km.

Pete zero zero game. Right now, Sounders are locked into
the five seed. At this moment, New York City is
the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference due to this

(01:45:39):
draw and Nashville winning. If the playoffs started at this moment,
they'd be facing Miami. New York City is going to
be on the front foot. They are going to be
wanting to score because they do not want to face
Miami in the first round. Given that piece of information.
What are the keys for the Sounders to the second half.

Speaker 3 (01:45:55):
I think we're good at the back. I think the
back four has been very solid. I think we've been
good with JP and Leva. The wing play. You gotta
get Paul Rothrock engaged for our engaged. Get the ball
on Albert a little bit more, and we've got to
get balls some service into Jordan Morris, whether it is
a vertical pass, whether it is getting to the inline
cutting back, or whether it's crosses from deep. But right

(01:46:15):
now the front four are not really in sync. Hopefully
they will have adjusted enough to the smaller field, smaller
less space and can start clicking a little bit.

Welcome back Sounders fans to City Field in New York
City for this East versus West matchup on Decision Day,
Sounders New York City nil nil at the half. I'm
Danny Jackson alongside Brad Evans here in the booth for
this final game of the regular season. Things on the
Eastern Conference start to shake out, as Jackson Feltz mentioned,

(01:50:00):
Miami trailing right now two on to Nashville. That changes
things up pretty starkly for New York City, who with
a win could have maybe jumped into home field advantage
into that top four slot, but they dropped to seven
now and the way that Cincinnati is winning, Miami is losing.
That would be a Miami New York City matchup in
that first round of the playoffs. Say home away home

(01:50:22):
setup for that series for the higher seed, and here
come the Sounders for the second half. They get us
going with Albert Rouzneck Sounders in all green shirts, blue
shorts and white socks today their anniversary kit attacking the
goal to our right for the second half. And then
New York City in their light blue shirts, white shorts,
light blue socks aka Man City of course for the

(01:50:46):
City football group. So the ball goes in top right
corner of the box as Hack gets it, and he's
in a yellow card, so he has to be a
little bit careful the second half. Who was a quick
fire yellow card for O'Toole and Hack. Towards the end
of that first half, York City have it gonna whip
it in along the six headed up and away and
flick by Jackson O Reagan picked up on this near

(01:51:06):
side by Colin. He's be a little bit careful as
Martinez goes down, just falls down, does Alonzo Martinez the
top goal scorer of the endline goal kick and Brad Evans,
Your thoughts are the first half and then keys to
the second half.

Speaker 6 (01:51:19):
Yeah, first half, Sounders came out strong and then of
course you pick up an injury and that kind of
defleats things just a little bit, and the Sounders just
couldn't get into a rhythm. Out of the back seem fine,
but then moving forward into the attacking third, a little
bit disjointed, no real clear cut opportunities save for the
Jordan Morris, shall we call it a dive. We'll call
it a dive. And so in the second half, I

(01:51:40):
think the adjustments are going to be, Hey, we all
have to ramp it up just a little bit, ten
to fifteen percent in the attacking third, stayed more focused.
New York City's done a good job tonight. They haven't
really given anything to the Sounders in a way of
a bad pass or an arrant long bowl or anything
really in behind. And I think they know that that's
what Jordan Morris wants, right. They're not going to play
the high line like a lot of teams do and

(01:52:01):
live and die by it, much like Salt Lake last week,
Highline the entire time pushing to get points for New
York City. They kind of know where they stand now,
and I think that They'll be happy to keep possession,
wait for the right opportunity. When the Sounders do maintain
the ball, they're gonna have to do something special with it.

Speaker 11 (01:52:18):
New York have it on this near side the left
with o'tool. Let's get you the lineups coming out for
the second half of Brian SCHMIDTZ and no changes for Brian.
It's frying goal about four of Kilaney, Alex Jackson, Knuho
JP alongside Danny Labor middle of the park. JP actually
hazes Ferrara, Albert Ruzneck and then Paul Rothrock came on
for that injured Della Vaga in that first half. He'll

(01:52:40):
be on the left hand side, and then Jordan Morris
up front and it comes Farrera tries to whip it
a little heavy on the pass. The idea was right,
try to find the space beeen goalkeeper and back line
for Jordan Morris. Freeze comes out the US men's national
team player and just rolls it out to Hark for
New York City see has it slow pressure from the

(01:53:02):
sound as they retreat. That line of confrontation will just
sit about ten yards inside. They're attacking half of the
field as Rosnek now just steps forward and now Rothrock goes.
As brad Evans mentioned towards the end of that first half,
Rothrock hasn't been his usual self in terms of busy play.
But here comes New York. Now, good defending by Alex
has done that a few times in that first half

(01:53:23):
and first tests of the second half. A couple of
minutes in comes across, takes it off the toe of Martinez,
goes over the end line.

Speaker 6 (01:53:31):
Yeah, this little throw ball here just a little dummy,
and here comes Alex roll Don Martinez such a quick
and crafty player. But Alex Roldan I think, sticks his
foot out and then gets a boot from from Martinez.
There comes up limping a little bit lame. It seems
to be fine. Yep, saw one right there for Alex.
But it's gonna be a corner kick on this left
hand side for New York.

Speaker 11 (01:53:50):
It's gonna be an inswinger by Morales. And it goes
middle of the six, headed away and then headed further
forward by Albert. Eleven men behind the ball for the sound.
His ball gets clipped in towards the backstick big frame
of Jackson ring and goes up wins the ball, but
it just pops up in the end and picked up
by Gray, whipping him with his right foot. There's Jackson again,
this time stoops low heads the ball away. Sounders step

(01:54:13):
out to the top of their eighteen now drop in
a couple of yards as Morales has it flat ball
into the middle of the eighteen yard boxes. Sound as
players asking for a foul on Kilaney. Good step by
JP coming across the help sounds number six throwing in
quickly by New York and then whipping again with Moralesay's
big frame of Perea goes across Alex headed clear by

(01:54:35):
Jackson far side and here comes Wrath. It now just
hustles and Harry's and the referee gives a foul and
that's gonna frustrate rath Rock, but maybe the right decision,
free kicking New York.

Speaker 6 (01:54:44):
Yeah, well done. And that's the Paul Rothrock you want
right fighting for every ball, just trying to get enough
out of Gray to strip that ball. And then off
he goes. And Gray does everything he should do. Feel
the pressure fall down. But in that moment you risk
if you just go down and it's not a that's
a quick counter attack. The sounder is under some pressure
here six or seven crosses into the box from New

(01:55:06):
York City. I think they know the situation that they're in.

Speaker 11 (01:55:09):
It's going to be a New York free kick now
on the right hand side, forty yards or so from
Sefron Fries goal whipped in and headed away by Jackson
Reagan or six foot five of him going up and
just flicking the ball away. It's going to come out
in these tight confines of city field, narrower than the
normal playing surface the Sounders maybe used to certainly at
home home of the New York Mets. Of course, we

(01:55:34):
had a high flying start to their season this year,
but petered out very quickly in the last month or
so of the season. Didn't make the playoffs. Or gets
headed up and away by Sounders and then slashed away
by Jackson, clipped forward by Rice and that good play
Feria's in Jordan Morris making a run through the middle,

(01:55:54):
trap well by Gustavo. As Farrera comes away from pressure.
Martins now at for again right hand side, got some
time in space long the six, it goes and Jordan
made a quick run towards an air post. Martin's right
spot goes over the end line corner kick Sounders.

Speaker 6 (01:56:10):
Just when you think Faria takes too big of a
touch there, he does all the right things, just pulls
it back with the bottom of his foot and then
it's just a little It's good possession play, right, that's
what we asked for earlier. Stays in the right spot.
New York City defenders are trying to get back into
position that they've been pulled out of, and it's the
right play. Ball slipped along the six and a last
ditch effort from New York City.

Speaker 11 (01:56:31):
Can the Sounders find their third goal from a corner
kick of this season. Ball on the right hand side,
outswinger by Rusnak, goes in heady clear top of the
boxes Klan. He plays it quickly to Farrera, a good
position and there's Morrison inside the six yard box. They
says the refereee flight goes up. He didn't hit the target.
He sliced it wide. It's going to be a free
kick just a few yards out from Freezer's goal. But

(01:56:55):
really good chance for Mario's good spot offside.

Speaker 6 (01:56:58):
Yeah, if we could watch that one again, I think
it's Hayesou that's actually coming from an offside position. Could
have been Jordan, but in the right spot. And that's
what we've been asking for the sounders twice twice now
in about a minute and a half, two good services
starting to make end roads and getting forward. The play
that led up to that Haesus Ferrara breakaway was fantastic,
a little header into space and Jordan just pops free

(01:57:19):
in a clipped in ball in behind from Albert Rusnak
to release. And those are the three that you want
syncing up and playing well together.

Speaker 11 (01:57:27):
Right hand's side for New York, they whip it in,
it's clipped away by Roldan, then picked up now middle
of the field by JP just clips it forward for
rare challenges but loses out left hand side. Good strike
but slices it over. It's gonna be a goal kick. Sounders.
Let's get you the lineup for New York. It's freezing gold.
We think it's gonna be a back three again for

(01:57:48):
this second half. Gustavo Martinez and Huck. Then it's Gray Morales,
Perea and O'Toole and then Wolf Fernandez Macau and then
the seventeen gold man up front is Martinez. It's been
somewhat quite so far marshaled well by roll Down and
Jackson Reagan. Play by the Sounders under pressure right hand

(01:58:08):
side so confident passed by Danny Labor, it clips it
towards Jackson Reagan inside his eighteen yard box from this
near side the right now it finds it to Knew
who far side the left back inside it goes to
JP just inside the Sounders half for the field now
as they enter the attacking half, slowly but surely. Nice
patient play from the Sounders. New York City do need

(01:58:30):
to try and get a result. We'll see if they
press a little bit higher. As the ball tries to
be played through by Rosnack, cut out well by Gray
and then given up by New York. In transition, Sounders
pick it up inside their attacking half of the field
again with JP just foot on the ball, slowing things down.
Knew who makes a run inside, giving space for Rothrock

(01:58:51):
on the far side the left substitute for Della veaguin
that first half, as he mentioned in the about twenty
minute mark. Unfortunately, Dela Vega went down. Looked like some
kneecap injury, just a manner in which we saw it.
As it's headed forward by Roth or there's new who
putting pressure on Martin's I think he was off side
as the referee flag goes up, it was foreign territory

(01:59:13):
to new Who is the furthest man forward free kick
New York.

Speaker 6 (01:59:16):
Neil Neil, Yeah, well done by the Sounders. And it
almost looks the way that the Sounders are building they're
almost waiting for a set play. They must recognize something
in New York City where no midfielder is taking unnecessary
touches is what I like. They're trying to get the
ball in a position to where the two number six
is JP and Leva are facing forward, and then they're
building out of out of that zone. It's like Alex

(01:59:38):
Roldon is coming off in JP a little double sub
right now. May have picked up something on that one
that from Martinez where he came across.

Speaker 11 (01:59:46):
In the first second half. Yeah, so rolled on off
j Jonathan bell on. It would likely shift Jackson to
the right of the two centre backs, and then Jonathan
to the left side, and then Snyder Brunew we got
to start just a couple of weeks ago. He'll play
alongside Danny Labor. JP goes off. He's played his minutes
fifty five minutes goold run out for JP. Another good

(02:00:11):
shift for the experienced Brazilian.

Speaker 6 (02:00:14):
I think this will could be a good pitch for
Snyder to step into. It's on grass, It's gonna play fast.
He's a physical player. I think he can use his
prowess today. He'll cover a lot of ground in there.
We thought JP might be able to push a little
bit longer, but maybe a little bit more athleticism in
the middle of the park is what Schmetzer needs in
this second half to get us out of that pressure.
Moving forward, we'll get in.

Speaker 11 (02:00:36):
It's good step by Jonathan bel for his first introduction,
first meaningful play in this second half as he just
stepped on the field. Of course, Snyder Brunelle with a
U nineteen youth national team in the international window. He
was gone, one of the eleven players missing last week.
He was a last minute add to that squad. I

(02:00:57):
mean a good time for Snighter to get some meaningful
minutes against our with so many players missing. But JVP
and Danny Labor did a great job and then they
earned their starting spot again today. As Obed and Christian
are at home just resting up. As Snyder Brunell just
flicks it around the corner. Good play by Snyder finds Russneck.
There is Snyder two goals in his campaign so far

(02:01:20):
New York Sorry, Ellie Galaxy and Kansas City were his
two goals. Got his first introduction as a first team
player against Cruisers all and that seven Niel hammering in
League's Cup, of course, with the most memorable goal of
this season many seasons with Dela Vega's goal. But hit
come the Sounders. Now ball rolled in towards the end

(02:01:41):
line too that man Snyder Brunell picks it up left
corner of the eighteen yard box back to Russneck has
some time and space goes back to Danny Labor makes
the angle Knew who making a run now down the
left hand side. Ball goes into Snyder just flicks it
over the top and then cushion header by Gray back
to the goalkeeper. His freeze just walks out with the
ball in his hands. Sound is unable to unlock. There's

(02:02:03):
been somewhat of a stubborn back line so far from
New York City, and it looks.

Speaker 6 (02:02:07):
Like Snyder's going to come in and push a little
bit higher and now usually it's JP sitting in that spot,
so Danny Leber and Schneider Bern now are going to
have to be really careful and one of them has
to sit in front of the back four at all
times for the Sounders to be successful in this one,
because New York will punish you three in the midfield.
They're going to fly forward knowing that they have to
get and they have to score two goals at least

(02:02:29):
to really seal this one, and the Sounder is looking
to play to zero. So it's a bit of a
chess match right now as the Sounders build out of
the back looking to get a goal, but also not
leaving too much in front of the back four.

Speaker 11 (02:02:42):
Yep, Sounders just ticking behind a fifty eight percent possession
right now. Just the two shots from the Sounders haven't
tested Matt Freeze yet seven shots for New York with
just a one on target so far that was left
handed saved by Fry. Here comes the Sounder right hand side.
Klany strikes it low is looking to angle the ball
to the far post, didn't quite get the connection he

(02:03:04):
wanted or the direction goes into the arms of Freeze
for a comfortable safe.

Speaker 6 (02:03:08):
Yeah, well done. From the Sounders. This ball is trying
to be slipped in and it's Hesus Ferrara pops out
to but look here, it takes a little deflection I think,
and sends it back at Matt Freeze. I think it
was destined for the corner there and at least draw
a little save. And I think it's the right decision
in that moment inside the box. Take a shot, make
make Matt Freeze just be tested a little bit in
that moment, the.

Speaker 11 (02:03:29):
Snody Brunelle, good patience, good confidence from the young man
as he gets the ball off Danny Lavor.

Speaker 6 (02:03:35):
A lot of room for the Sounders to play in
midfield today. A bit of a surprise. You don't often
see this for the Sounders. Every midfielder that gets the
ball happy to turn and face forward, no real pressure.

Speaker 11 (02:03:47):
Especially on such tight field. It's the sound as if
manas you other's technical players on the field. A little
flick around the corner by Rowthorpe pulled down. But here
comes snidy Brunell advantage given left corner of the box
finds Danny Laver. Now Snyder again rolls at square, gets
pulled down. I think by moralest game keeps going down
the line. He goes Afare on this right hand side
a couple of yards from the end line, clips it
towards the back stick and it bounces through to Russneck.

(02:04:11):
Gray closes down as does Fernanda's Macau. Sounders still have
it twenty five yards from gold left hand side of
center top of the boxes. Labor can he strike it
good block by Perea as Fernand's Macaw and Rothrocks scrap
for it on the far side, and there's New York
City that come away with it right corner of the box.

(02:04:32):
Sounder attacking the goal to our right in their green shirts,
blue shorts, White Sox win the ball on the left
hand side, quickly into Snyder. Brunell now goes to Danny
Laver to the right is Kline making his run, just
flicks it around the corner to Jordan. They'll give and
go to Laver and just too many bodies wasn't able
to get through, but picked up by Jonathan Bell, rolls
a nice ball out to Rothrock, who tries to turn
around the corner. Referee eventually waits for the advantage. Nothing

(02:04:55):
there it gets a free kick does Rothrock on the
experienced morale whispers of whiskers of gray hair through his bed,
and his hair shows the experience of the argentinium. But
it's gonna be a free kick for the sound isn't
a chance to deliver some good delivery from Russnick from
their left hand site.

Speaker 6 (02:05:15):
Yeah, good build up from the sounders for the past
three or four minutes, really putting New York City under
the gun. And on that one he sues breaks free
and you see Jordan Morris motioning for that ball to
be lifted. Jordan, your responsibility is to get to the
near post. If he sus decides to lift it, that's
not your job.

Speaker 11 (02:05:31):
By Rusnak. Good delivery headed on a.

Speaker 21 (02:05:36):
There's Jordan Morris.

Speaker 11 (02:05:37):
That's the goal he was looking for. It came from
a free kick. Good delivery by russneck a glancing ahead
of by Morris, and the sounders lead one nail.

Speaker 6 (02:05:47):
That's all in the service. And when you have good service,
you give yourself the best opportunity. And the sounder's done
so well in the past four or five minutes. Continuous pressure.
Jordan just unlucky on a couple plays before that and
throughout this one. But that's a persistence of a good striker.
When you get your opportunity, you put it in the
back of the net. And for Jordan Morris, what a

(02:06:08):
momentous goal that is for him at this point, ball
swung in here, does everything right, starts offside, gets himself
onside and I think it's Perea actually that drops a
little bit early there and Jordan just gets a flick
on that one, puts it far posting into the back
of the net. Just a little glancing header and that's
all you need. And ay, when that ball's coming in,
you're taught. You turn your head, you look at your

(02:06:29):
target and oftentimes the ball is going to go exactly
where you want it to. He alects to go far
posts there and Matt Freeze nothing he can do about
that one except make a dive for the cameras.

Speaker 11 (02:06:40):
Yet fifth gold in the season for Jordan Morris got
his second assist of the year and is thirty eighth
of his career. That got him into fourth all time
and assists as a Sounder, and of course he bypassed
Ruy Diaz for the top goalscorer all time in the
MLS era for the Sounders, so he ticks towards that
ninety goal mart Now, how big is that one for Jordan? Yeah,

(02:07:02):
going too the playoffs and we we talked about it
at the beginning of the game. Jackson Pete talked about
it as well. He just needed a goal. And sometimes
it's those goals we'd have to think about it.

Speaker 6 (02:07:10):
He just react, yeah and yeah. You get a penalty
kick last week and it's the complete opposite. You have
to think the entire time. So for Jordan, yeah, good
to get them one off his back. And you saw
it in Austin. He was so close on a number
of occasions, and that seems like forever ago now. And
then you go into practice and I'm sure the finishing
is good, you're feeling good, but there's nothing like scoring
in a game, getting that one off your back. You'd

(02:07:30):
kind of just take a deep breath and you get
back into the rhythm of Oh, I remember what that
feels like. Yep.

Speaker 11 (02:07:36):
Sixty second minute here at City Field Sports Radio nine
to fifty kgs. The ball goes in behind cut out
well by Gray. Sounders won New York City nil on
Decision Day, final game of the regular season for all
teams in MLS. This score Day is presented by Toyota,
and I'm sure Brian was looking at his watch and
looking down his bench. When do you introduce Danny Massofski.

(02:07:58):
He's your top goal scorer this year, of course, with
fourteen goals in the regular season campaign, sixteen goals in all,
but Jordan Morris. Now, I'm assuming for Brian he's gonna
let Jordan run out a little bit longer here. I'm
sure there was a tough decision that Brian would have
had to make at some point. Is you want Jordan
to get a goal, Brad, but you've also got your

(02:08:19):
leading goal scorer on the bench and you got a
nail note game.

Speaker 6 (02:08:22):
Yeah. Look, those are the decisions for the manager, not
for us. We can speculate all we want. We don't
watch training every single day. But I think it's the
fact that Jordan's been here for so long. He's your DP.
You have to get him going before the playoffs. And
to make a little sliding tackle there. From Snyder, it.

Speaker 26 (02:08:39):
Was resonate maybe yellow card. We'll just take a look
and see if he gets one. Is but you'll always
have these questions right about your striker. That's the main
job is you could connect fifty five passes in a game,
but if you don't put the ball in the back
of the net, it doesn't matter. When we had Clint Dempsey,
there was a game that I watched from up top.
I was injured and I asked Robbie to just what

(02:08:59):
were his that's that game? Did he sprint at all? No,
not one high intensity sprint during the game, but he
had two goals and we won two to one at home.

Speaker 6 (02:09:09):
That's a striker. Yeah.

Speaker 11 (02:09:10):
I mean Harland of course, is the player that is
probably demanded to do a bit more from pet but
continues to score goal after goal, game after game, and
he may touch the ball five times. It's fascinating fowards
if they can be streaky at times, and Jordan is
one of those players when he gets on a streak.
Danny Musoski showed it this year with five goals in

(02:09:32):
a row, but match the record for a sounder. But
if Jordan can get the goal today and he can
get on a streak, perfect time to find it with
the playoffs looming next week, and I.

Speaker 6 (02:09:45):
Think especially away from home, you show that you can
do it away from home, the group can potentially tonight
win away from home and that'll be big when you're
playing away home, away in a tough place in Minnesota
against what will look just like this, a back three,
back five for the majority of it. And it comes
down to set pieces. Set pieces will win you championships.

(02:10:07):
And I think every coach throughout time has said that, Yes,
Farrare a top of the box aeront passed by New York.
He's able to turn away from pressure.

Speaker 11 (02:10:13):
Bull goes in. Here comes Jordan inside the eighteen yard bods,
he's a drop his shoulder rust that has it strike blocked. Oh,
Jordan had a chance. He could have just whipped his
right foot around it to find that far post. Didn't
take it.

Speaker 6 (02:10:24):
It was perfect, It was laid up, perfect for a
right footed strike, inside foot. Let it go. He's just
scored a goal four minutes ago. Go ahead, take your chance,
or swing it on to your left foot and drive
it at the keeper's face, whatever it may be. That's
a tough one for me because Jordan's gotta be that,
gotta be Hungry's aching to Austin right. He's got the
opportunity in front of goal. Alexa lay it off twice

(02:10:46):
in that game. But if you're at number nine, you're
looking to get on the score sheet. You gotta take
those shots. No one's gonna tell you you should have
done any different.

Speaker 11 (02:10:54):
Boy gets clipped him by a labor clear somewhat by
New York but not well, finds Brunell top of the box.
Could quick by. Brunelle tries to rig away from pressure
picked up by New York City and hark as he
steers the ball forward a vailables o tool down this
left hand side here comes It's a little drop of
the shoulder of good play by Kallanney. It's going to

(02:11:18):
be a cornerkick though for New York because they try
to respond quickly. Here Sounds leading one goal to nil,
and tonight's match is presented by the Western Washington Toyota Dealers.
Sounders have to defend this corner kick now on this
left on their left hand side. It be a right
foot in swinger and it goes towards the penalty spot,

(02:11:38):
headed forward by Martin's right down the gut of Fryer
is able to collect it comfortably in the end and
Sounders will build.

Speaker 6 (02:11:49):
It's a good header at the end of the day,
but if you're twelve fifteen yards out, it's going to
be really tough to beat any keeper in this league,
and all sometimes you have to do. Hey, Susan does well,
just get a body on a player and make it difficult.
Doesn't get a clear header.

Speaker 11 (02:12:06):
Well, Nashville is now to too, Nashville Miami, and that
shakes things up again in the standings. Cincinnati leading two
goals to nail Charlotte needed leading two goals in against Philadelphia.
So Charlotte have solidified for sure their home field advantage.
And now it's about where did New York City sit
the trailing? The sound is one nil right now here

(02:12:27):
at home, and then we'll see how things shake out
above them, if it'll be Miami or potentially Charlotte. It
comes to New York just top of their attacking eighteen
yard box sounders holding the top of their box, just
takes a strike, slight deflection, maybe just took the sting
out of it all the way through to Fry is
able to gather it comfortably. It's gonna be classed as

(02:12:48):
another save for Steph and Fry, but easy pickings for Steph.
The ball gets flicked around the corner by a rose
like good play ball down the middle. Now Jordan Morris
is available by Rothrock and it goes it just plays
it sideways, not forward. Just has to hold up his
run now does Jordan. It was two verses one for
the Sounders. As the Green Shirts move forward now in

(02:13:09):
support Snider Brunell has it just slows things down, rolls
it to Jackson. Reagan playing on the right of the four,
now should the right. The two center backs lepping run
by Carlanie Rothrock now playing on this right hand side,
all goes back to Colonie. He just comes off that
near touchline. As we're looking at it, sound attacking the
goal to our right step in by Fernandez. Macau picks

(02:13:31):
the ball up with his left foot and then wriggles
it out to one of his midfield teammates left hand
side and available and support is oh Tool off the outside.

Speaker 6 (02:13:45):
He comes.

Speaker 11 (02:13:47):
Skip forward as Martinez step in by Jordan Morris, Advan
is given strike right down the middle.

Speaker 19 (02:13:51):
Again.

Speaker 11 (02:13:51):
It's going to be a comfortable save by Stephan Frye.

Speaker 6 (02:13:54):
Yeah, both teams just playing and soccer right now, Everything
in the midfield has been so wide open every time
he gets the ball. Yes, he finds amazing pockets on
the field, but then he releases Paul Rothrock. You have
to know that Jordan Morris is there and you got
to do everything you can do to put that ball
in front of him. Bring it to your left foot
so that when you play it to your left you've
got a little inside rotation so the ball goes in

(02:14:14):
front of him. Just a little tiny things tactically that
are gonna set up Jordan much much better. And then
on the flip side you lose possession high up the
field and within four passes New York City gets an
opportunity once again on goal, and you can feel New
York City under the gun here for a little bit.
They're gonna start pushing forward here, but that will open
up things for the Sounders. I think that's what they want,

(02:14:37):
and this one is for New York to be open.
I think Bruce Knack and Ferrara a gonna find more
of the ball and more joy yep.

Speaker 11 (02:14:43):
New York have now shifted to a full back system
with two center backs. As Gustava goes off, William Fernandez
comes on the number eleven, Johnny Shore number thirty two
on oh hated number twenty six on as well. But
here it comes for Er now inside the etu of
Boox and there was a hopeful shot in the end
EASi League saved by freeze. But the game is really

(02:15:04):
opening up now. Can the Sounders just get get control.
They are leading one nil and it's New York has
got the impetus and move forward and try to find
a goal as they try and solidify a spot far
up the Eastern Conference standings. I think their goal now
is to avoid Miami at all costs. And we'll just
see and keep you updated on some of the results

(02:15:25):
as they come in. They tie things up down in Nashville.
Nashville is another team that had the opportunity to sidestep
Charlotte and New York because they were sitting in sixth spot.
And Miami now is leading three goals to two, so
that elevates Miami up. We'll see what happens below. We'll

(02:15:45):
keep things will, things will keep shaking out. And about
these decision days, it's a great thing by MLS. They
really to make things exciting, especially when there's those clumps
of teams who are fighting for the same spot.

Speaker 6 (02:15:56):
Yeah, it's a fun time to watch soccer. It's one
of those days where you just kind of have to
turn the TV on and catch as much as you
as you can and following along in the standing because
it's an ever evolving thing and now there's so many
team It didn't used to be this way when I
was in the league early on.

Speaker 11 (02:16:11):
It comes rof try to wriggle free of.

Speaker 6 (02:16:15):
And now that there's so many teams, it just gives
them more of an opportunity for a playoff, a playoff
day basically where it's it's do or die for a
lot of teams today.

Speaker 11 (02:16:25):
So Miami as it stands right now, third position, Charlotte fourth,
they're leading two goals to l. New York City will
stay in fifth because Nashville now will slide back down
to sixth after conceding two on the on the bounce
right there, they were leading two to one going into
the second half, and then New York City will play
Charlotte as it stands fourth versus fifth Sounders. Can they

(02:16:50):
continue to play through here and finish off the season
decision day with a win and potentially know the clean
sheet two back to back too, clean sheets back to
back against Portland and RSL, And before that, he was
a toye against Vancouver, so one a draw in two

(02:17:10):
wins in the last three games. Good performances, good results
going into playoffs, and another difficult place to play of course,
with New York City needing a win, just like RSL
needed last week. Because I think Labor goes down and
the referee just waits for the advantage. Jordan Morris had
a chance, but it's going to get pulled back and
it's going to be a free kick for the Sounders
and it's going to kill a few more valuable seconds

(02:17:32):
off the clock as we get here in the seventy
third minute with Sounders leading one goal to nil.

Speaker 6 (02:17:36):
Yeah, well done by Danny Labor once again. And this
is what we were talking about. Can he put in
a full ninety minute performance and tonight he's going to
be asked to do that. And I think he's shown
really well tonight, finding the pockets, his creativity, the passes
that he sees. Like we said, he's just learned so
much and he's finally got his opportunity to be on
the pitch and be that lynch pin in the midfield.

(02:17:59):
Unfortunately for the Sounders, Chris benzil Let's out one play
out this time. It makes the right decision and calls
it backs.

Speaker 11 (02:18:06):
Jonathan Bell just wriguling away for pressure. Knew who just
wriggled away from pressure on that left hand side. Bench
goes back to Jonathan Bell. It's a free kick, so
afre we just wait again, just give a couple of
seconds to see that Sounders could get the advantage. They
have to go back, so no advantage given. But I
think maybe the advantage should have been given because this
is a more difficult spot in some ways the Sounds
have broken out of pressure, but news gonna have it.

Speaker 6 (02:18:29):
I think we're yet to figure out this New York
City team, and they are too. It's how they want
to play. Sometimes they're mixing it up between long balls.
They're trying to play through the midfield, but every time
a ball goes into a striker a little bit disjointed. Yes,
they've tested Stephan Fry a couple of times, but it's
only been in chaos. It hasn't really been from the
build up for New York City. Nothing beautified tonight for them.

(02:18:49):
I think the Sounders have a real opportunity to pile
it on here. For twenty ish minutes left.

Speaker 11 (02:18:54):
You need to execute this final plays, trying to get
that second goal and give themselves some breathing room. Here
is it get into the final fifteen minutes or so
at City Field Sports Radio nine to fifty KGr wherever
you're joining us, Thank you for listening in when it's
SYNCD up to Apple at home in the car Sounders
on decision Day, final game of the regular season. We'll
wait to see what happens tonight on who the opponent

(02:19:16):
will be in the first round proper Sounders have already
tild the deified fifth position in the Western Conference standings.
This is an East versus West matchup. The rest of
the fourteen teams in the Western Conference will play at
six pm Pacific, and the Sounders once they make their
flight home. By the time they get off their plane,
they'll know exactly who they'll be playing. And it could

(02:19:36):
be Minnesota as it stands right now, but it also
could be LAFC. It could be San Diego, just depends
on how results go. So lots to play for in
terms of what's happening in the top four. They all
get home field advantages. Just about who do they face
in that best of three series? And then there's four
teams vying four their playoff lives in RSL Dallas, San Jose, Colorado,

(02:20:02):
San Jose, hoping for some kind of bit of magic.
But here comes Rothrock. Can he produce something here on
that left hand side? And Gray comes away, there is
he Harry's and hustles as you'd expect, eventually goes back
and New York will build again with Perea.

Speaker 6 (02:20:20):
What a great bout of possession for the Sounders though,
And you can see Schmeetzer's up on his sideline barking orders,
and I think it's it's a little bit of posturing.
He wants more out of his team. He knows that
the playoffs are coming up and it's gonna take more
than tonight's effort. It's gonna have to be even ramped
up even more. And I think he's trying to drive
that home to his guys. And he must smell an
opportunity too, because every time Snyder Danny Leva get a

(02:20:41):
ball in the midfield, they're clear to move forward. Now
Schmittz is saying, we've got to produce something. We're going
to maintain. This possession.

Speaker 11 (02:20:49):
Comes great down the right hand side, it goes towards
the end line, flicks it in top of the six
yard box. Good block by Jackson Reagan. I think it
was Martinez who managed to turn quickly into quick snap shot,
but it was blocked by Jackson. Reagan has had a
really good performance so far, anchoring the back four right place,
right time on a number of different occasions. Just got
his right foot in front of the shot.

Speaker 1 (02:21:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:21:12):
You see Paul rothrock there just with four or five
yards off off of Gray and it allows him just
enough time on the ball to slip it in behind
and create some chaos.

Speaker 11 (02:21:21):
Ball whipped in and there's Jackson again, powerful header away
clears his lines. Whipped back in by Fernandez Macou towards
the back stick. It's going to bounce through Jordan Morris
closing the ball down back. He goes to Gray, tries
a roller towards the end line, trapped by Danny Labor.
Good play by Danny. He just tracked the run of
Johnny Shore towards the end line. Managed to see it out.

(02:21:45):
But it's gonna be another corner kick now. Fernande's the
sub number eleven is going to take you with his
left foot in swinger from New York's right hand side.
They're attacking the goal to our left. Ball comes in
good powerful header again by Jackson Reagan. Gray has it.
He's going to strike it. And that's exactly what you want,
is your right back striking the ball. It slice over
the top, more of a clearance in a shot goal kick,

(02:22:07):
sound as lead one nil.

Speaker 6 (02:22:08):
Yeah, if I'm a New York City striker Martinez, whoever
it is, I'm in sense that Grey gets the ball
there outside the box and has a go. When we're
all sitting in the box. We've got them under pressure
and that's the easiest pass. It's just to clip that
one at the far post. And it's decision making at
the end of the day. And as a youngster you
got to figure it out at some point and do
what's best for your team, not what's best for you.

Speaker 11 (02:22:30):
So that was Gray's final contribution to the game, and
not a great one. So he gets pulled off. Ellenich
goes on. Sounds probably sad to see Grey go after
a couple of those shots have gone over the top.
But Ellenitch comes on number thirty five, Pray goes off
as well. We'll just get a confirmation for that sub
as well. Sounders will build out of the back down

(02:22:54):
the left hand side. It goes towards Rothrock, who's had
some spurts, but it feels like it just has a
found the game so far. It feels like it's a
perfect game for him. Whether the space will open up
for him and in just his desire to get up
and down the field will hopefully benefit him and the
Sounders getting some chances. And it comes Ferrara plays the
ball in wide open through the middle. Now is Danny

(02:23:17):
Labor just crosses into the attacking half of the field
and nothing. Ford has to go back new who turns
away from pressure. Johnny Show putting pressure on for the
Light Blues of New York City as they're looking to
try and solify their spot in fifth position, trying to
avoid Miami, who sit third. Right now, as the ball
goes into Jordan Morris out to the right hand side,

(02:23:39):
it comes to Kolin. He's got to whip it across
the six and it's headed clear by Martin's picked up
by Fernandez, top of the box, closed down by Brunell.
It's all about to Illinich on the right hand side
is going to hook it into the middle, picked up
well by Martinez and then turned away from pressure. Brilliantly
by Jackson Rae.

Speaker 6 (02:24:00):
That's so good from Jackson Reagan. He's got three New
York City attackers around him and just uses his pure
strength to get out of that situation.

Speaker 11 (02:24:10):
So it's Carrizo number twenty nine. We'll confirm that who
came on for Perea in the middle of the park.
Get here in the seventy ninth minute, just over ten
minutes ago of the ninety in this final game of
the regular season at City Field, New York Sports Radio
nine to fifty am, Sounders leading one goal to nil

(02:24:31):
against the Eastern Conference team of New York City FC,
of course part of City Football Group, Manchester City being
one of them, and the score date is presented by
Provident Swedish and the Sounders to get another clean sheet,
a third clean sheet in three games. Wouldn't that be
a great way to enter the playoffs. It's been a
bit of a rocky season relative to past two seasons. Defensively,

(02:24:55):
here they come with Jackson rig Lot'll flick around the corner.
Jackson's really enjoying his football tries. Verse passed by Russneck,
stepped in well by Labor right side of the eighteen
yard boxes. Kline comes across, just waits a little bit
too long on the balls over the top now and
the speed of new Jonathan Bell just couldn't find the

(02:25:15):
ball back to Stephan Frye and it goes over the
end line. Martinez is looking for the space in behind.
Good defending. Just couldn't connect the pass back to fry
It's gonna be a corner kick.

Speaker 6 (02:25:24):
Yeah, good defending from Jonathan Bell. Their last ditch. You
are the last man. Jackson Reagan had vacated his space
as playing as a right center back, and the three
plays the ball out wide and Klannie gets caught with
the ball and it's a quick transition. New York City
does a good job of recognizing the Jackson's pulled out
of space. Jonathan Bell the great recovery run.

Speaker 11 (02:25:43):
Yep, all the subs are now for New York City.
They've made that moves. Ball comes in. Sounders were Jackson
Reagan again? How many heads is z one inside the
eighteen yard box today? It's got be in double digits
for sure, and he comes Fernandos mrcouich has to drill it.
Sounds will say that all day long as it skips
all the way through to the far side, ten yards
from the corner flag. It's gonna be a Sounders throw

(02:26:04):
as new who trots over and tries to burn off
a couple of valuable seconds we get here in the
final ten minutes.

Speaker 6 (02:26:09):
Yeah, Jackson's gonna have a headache after this game. That's
at least ten so far from corner kicks or set
pieces cleared out just by him. And I think what
the Sounders have done is they've switched him into a
role where he's free the entire time, and he just
goes and hunts for the ball. And I think it's
a good decision, right. You want your best header of
the ball, your tallest guy, just to be in a
position in the middle of the mix. You're not responsible

(02:26:30):
for marking anyone, but your job is wherever the ball goes,
you have to go find it well.

Speaker 11 (02:26:35):
Sounders FC Sock is presented by a Provident Swedish official
healthcare partner of Sounders FC. As we mentioned, the Sounders
are heading into the outy twenty twenty five MLS cut playoffs.
Tonight's decision day match will determine our seating for playoffs
and who we will be playing. We are guaranteed to
be playing at home for round one match two, as

(02:26:57):
New York City have it. It's a deflection and it's
in the back of the net. It was new who
came across and he tried to deflect it. In New
York City get that goal they were looking for, and
unfortunately for the sounds that give one up here late.

Speaker 6 (02:27:11):
One one and this goes all the way back to
Paul Rothrock here though the sounders are in a great
position to kill some more time off the clock. The
camera's not even adjusted to the field and Paul Rothrock
takes a quick free kick to put it back in play.
You're up one nothing with nine minutes left. Knew who
should be responsible for that ball to be put back
into play? And it's a little slit ball here from
Danny Leva thinks he's got a square ball's wide open,

(02:27:34):
does all the right things here and Knew who just
a little last at cheffer. Jonathan Bell comes out, actually
catches the underside of Knew who's leg and Jonathan Bell
there and a little bit of a mix up with
Knew who who steps who stays wide and Stephan Fry
nothing he can do on that one straight into the ground.
Stephan fry thinks it's going low and the Sounders just

(02:27:55):
kind of shoot themselves in the foot. But again, why
are you taking a quick free kick when you've got
limited amount of time on the clock. It's got to
be more mature, better game management from Rothrock in that moment,
and I think Schwetz will be asking, why are we
taking a quick free kick there? Let New York City
drop all the way back ping the ball forward. Let's

(02:28:17):
fight for the second ball. We've done it so well tonight.

Speaker 11 (02:28:21):
Especially with New York City pushing men forward, the pressure
is going to come further out the field. If they
could just bypass that pressure, They've shown they can find
pockets of space, as the New York City fans celebrate,
But for the sound Is and Brian Schmidt, so that's
a stinger to give up in the final ten minutes.
It's happened a few times now as you look in

(02:28:41):
previous games, Austin being one of them lost the game,
then New York LA Galaxy as well. See a couple
of changes here. Danny Massovski read Baker Whiting coming on
the field for Rara. I believe Morris will be off,
so be Morris and for off Massoski read Baker Whiting on.

(02:29:03):
Let's see if the Sounders can somehow chlora goal back here,
but they have to defend. Now, this is real playoff
stuff here now where New York City are going to
try and go after the juggular here and try and
get that winning goal. Good play by Reid on the
far side, weels away from pressure, wins the ball off
New York City and then giving up and it's a foul.

(02:29:26):
I think it's on roth by Fernandez, the sub just
inside the Sounders attacking half of the field and sounds.
Now we'll tell you Toy's Snody Brunello that won the
foul and it sounds now will take their time to
take this free kick.

Speaker 6 (02:29:39):
Well, the Sounders are going to push forward now. I
mean a draw does them nothing, a loss does them
and a win doesn't either other than confidence. So you
might as well go for the win here and see
if you can create a couple opportunities. There'll be a
little bit of stoppage time at the end of this one,
maybe seven or eight minutes remaining in total. I think
with Musovski coming on the field, it'll give him a

(02:29:59):
chance to to get kind of dust dust, the dirt
off of his shoes and hopefully he can find a
magical winner.

Speaker 11 (02:30:07):
A quick free kick that costs us that goal also
cut my read down as well, So let me finish
up what's going on here. So we're guaranteed to be
playing at home for a Round one match. Two tickets
for this match we'll go on sale Monday, October twentieth.
The Sounders come in, grab your tickets at soundersfc dot
com backslash tickets. As the Sounders earn a corner kick

(02:30:30):
from this right hand side, it was rotocker went down
the right hand side, deflection over the end line.

Speaker 6 (02:30:35):
Is you get here?

Speaker 11 (02:30:36):
In the final five minutes New York one Sounders one?
Can the Sounders work their way back into the lead
here they took a lead and the second half and
for the Sounders, can they eke it out again? Another
victory on the East Coast? Have strike, good strike by

(02:30:56):
Brunell as New York City flew himself in front of
the ball a freeze calling a foul. We'll see what
that is. May it's a little push by Jackson or
one of these attacking players for that corner kick. But
it comes New York sitting down the right hand side,
ball inside, good play by Brunell, a little reverse ball
into Labor, center of the field and the center circle

(02:31:17):
ball down by Brunell, puts his hand on it, plays
it quickly down his right hand side. Now and now
Sounders can go at some speed with Kilany to Rothrock
eighteen yards from the endline, plays it inside to Labor,
flicks it around the corner. Can Rothrock get there? Not
quite goes clattering in. It's going to be a corner kick.
It was a coming together of two players. The blue
shirt an old Tool on the ground, Rothrock still on

(02:31:39):
the ground as well. It was a fair challenge. At
least he had the chance to go after it. No foul,
It's going to be a corner kick.

Speaker 6 (02:31:44):
I think Rothrock gets the better of Old Tool here.
We watched the replay. It's just pure effort from Paul Rothrock.
Here he's sliding to make a play on the ball
and Old two just gets there first. And that's one
where you can't pull out of the challenge. Your momentum
is gonna take you through. A ball get slipped in
by Danny Lava and O'Toole just takes a deflection, and
I think he's actually trying to play it out of bounds,

(02:32:06):
and on any other day it might be a foul bull.

Speaker 11 (02:32:09):
Whipped an outswinger headed down all Jackson Reagan. It's been
a brilliant performance by Jackson defensively. And now he steps
up and hammers a header into the back of the
net and the sounders lead to one here.

Speaker 16 (02:32:24):
In New York.

Speaker 6 (02:32:25):
What ahead of that is by Jackson. Reagan just gets
up higher than everyone else and smashes that one almost
from the peak spot twelve yards out into the back
of the net. Again, Matt frees nothing he can do.
Initially on the service, I thought it was going to
be too flighty, too much in the air. But Jackson
gets up and just towers up above. Ball comes in
swung in here from Danny Leva and beats his defender.

(02:32:47):
It's just a one on one match up there, and
it's just pure strength and you can't match Look at that.
Just grabs him by the shirt, shoves him out of
the way, gets up and just smashes that ball straight
in the back of the net. You see Rusnak smile,
and that tells you everything right there.

Speaker 11 (02:33:04):
Well, Rosnik was standing somewhat front of the goalkeeper, but
hopefully the referee will not bring it back. But as
we say in England, that was a proper header.

Speaker 6 (02:33:12):
That was a proper header. I mean, that's what you've
been asking for. And if he can get five or
six of those a year.

Speaker 11 (02:33:17):
We talked about it last week and we've taught you
and I have talked about it before as well. And
he's got the ability.

Speaker 6 (02:33:22):
He's got. He's shown it this year. That's two I
think this year for him so far.

Speaker 13 (02:33:26):
Yep.

Speaker 6 (02:33:27):
And I just think if he can add that to
his repertoire and really have that in his bag, he'll
be in with the US national team. I don't see
why you can't when you have an aerial threat like
that offensively and then obviously defensively. He's shown it, but
you have to have it on the offensive side. That's
just a fantastic header.

Speaker 11 (02:33:43):
Now this sounds. Have to see these final these five
minutes and he's been a conversation between Fryan Knew who
he just flicks the ball up. He had no pressure,
could have let it go over the end line. Takes
safety first method, but it does go over the endline
for a corner kick from New York on their right hand. Sorry,
it's gonna be Fernandez with his left foot as Freeze
comes up. Now, final ninety seconds of the ninety minutes.

(02:34:03):
Ball comes in, whipped in, headed away by New picked
up by Ruznak. Can you riggle out of pressure? Freeze?
Isn't a full sprint back as Labor just knocks it along.
Not a bad choice by Danny at all, just knocks
it down into the channel, relieves pressure. Sound is leading
two goals to one. A smart decision, final minute of

(02:34:26):
the ninety whatever the referee will add on. And what
a result this would be, coming into a tough environment
against a team that needed to really win to push
themselves into that top four.

Speaker 6 (02:34:37):
Well you hear Schmitz are yelling there, calm the game,
Calm the game. And I think there's moments to be calm. Yes,
But when you're entering the ninetieth minute and you're feeling
some pressure, you got tired legs, there's nothing wrong with
sending that ball sixty seventy yards up the field.

Speaker 11 (02:34:51):
New York have it on their left hand side of
their tool goes back to Huk and then to Martine.
Sound as eleven men behind the ball just five yards
outside their eighteen yard box. Brunelle just gets his right
foot into it, knocks it down. The Sounders left chased
by Reed and he'll probably retreat now, i'd imagine, but
Rossneck's gonna put some pressure on Martin's and the Sounders
are gonna step up their lines. Mussovski is gonna come

(02:35:15):
across and put some pressure on Huck Sounders leading to
to one here as we get to the ninety minute mark,
and we'll just look down and see what the fourth
official puts on his board. In terms of added time,
it was seven minutes of added time due to the
Della Vega injury. Great takedown by Rosnack. Ball goes into
Mussosi top of the eighteen yard but try to Wriggle
away from pressure. Roth Rock was available to the right,

(02:35:37):
but New York win the ball. Now the ball goes
over the top. It's a foot race between Martinez and Jackson.
It goes wide. Jackson just did just enough. He was
scrambling back. He went to ground and I think Jackson
with that challenge is just enough to knock off Martinez.
It goes wide. It's a goal kick. Sounds lead to

(02:35:58):
to one, but Brad Evans that was a chance for
New York going the other way.

Speaker 6 (02:36:02):
Well, listen, it all starts with Danny Mussovski. You've con
on the field, You've been on for five minutes. The ball, yes,
you take a bad touch. Why are you not sprinting
to pressure the ball? To try to put some pressure
on a New York City defender, whether it's Hawk or
Martinz whatever it may be. It just blows my mind
and the fact that there isn't a player on the
field that I can see that's screaming at him put

(02:36:22):
pressure on the ball, and Stephan Fry with his angle there,
that back post was wide open and just enough from
Jackson Reagan to put Martinez off and not be able
to curl that ball inside the post.

Speaker 11 (02:36:34):
New York have it on this that left hand side
sounder is right, pick it up? Do the sounders in
the green shirts? With Danny Lava no pressure on the
ball goes back to Jackson. One touch ball inside by
Kline gives it a way to Fernandez. Macauey comes number eleven,
Fernandez outside the left foot down the right hand side.
It goes a little step over and down the line
towards Fernandez a couple of yards from the end line

(02:36:56):
with his right foot just clips it into Martinez with
his head from about four teen yards. Couldn't get the
requisite power as Jackson Reagan did from a similar distance.
Now the Sounds pick it up on their right hand side.
Just need to preserve now the lead as Calany rulls
it back to steph Fryn launches it up five minutes

(02:37:17):
about it time two minutes of the five aided tick
by Masaski goes down, chased by Ruznek. Balled to the
right hand side for New York overlapping run by Illinich,
closed down by Knew who back it goes closed down
by Reed, now right hand side whipped in good challenge
by Knew who is He's demanding a bit more from

(02:37:39):
Reed and Nich wins the throw in ten yards from
the corner flag, throws it in quickly goes back Sound
to step up their line to Martinez. Now to huck
O'tooll has it just inside left position. Sound is holding
the top of their eighteen yard box. Down goes Snyder,
trying to cut out that ball. Fernandez has it now

(02:38:00):
to Martinez trying to wriggle it through to Fernandoz who
made the running behind, and it scoots through to Stephan Fry.
He just burns a couple of seconds off before he
picks the ball up and then steps the lines up
and he's going to launch the ball forward. No messing
around now. Two minutes to go of the five Sounders
leading two goals to one here in New York final

(02:38:21):
game of the season, Decision Day, sounders have locked up fifth.
New York City is going to wait and see what
they have ahead of them as a sound as well
as they wait to see the results coming out of
Decision Day on the West Coast or the Western Conference.
As hut goes down and eventually the assistant referees flight
goes up. That's just what you were talking about, Brett
a few I don't know, an hour ago, the frustration

(02:38:44):
where asistant referee flights go up so late.

Speaker 6 (02:38:46):
Yeah, it came up at that moment. It didn't look
like Reid was off sides on that one, but certainly
was and no Sounders with some defending to do.

Speaker 11 (02:38:53):
Yep, Sounders need to retreat now, ball in the right
corner of the eighteen yard box for New York is
gonna be flicked in and headed away by Jonathan Bell
who well so far coming in for Alex rolled on
alongside Jackson. Reagano has been a rock as Jackson and
he's got the second goal for the Sounders, but they
have to defend now a few minutes to go. Ball
goes across, there is a big right foot of Jackson
and then it's flicked forward. They're asking for a corner kick,

(02:39:15):
nothing there. The referee points to the goal kick, and
now we've got about sixty seconds to go for the
Sounders to get an all important confidence building win away
from home into another difficult place, and the Sounders will
if they can retain this too to one lead, get
three points, they'll go into the playoffs in the back

(02:39:38):
of four games unbeaten, three wins and a tie. Two
of those wins came from clean sheets, so the Sounders
have found their footing again coming out of league's Cup final.
So the ball goes down the line. Good breakout by
knew who and he clips the ball down the line.
Thirty seconds ago Sounders leading two goals to one, New

(02:40:01):
York have the ball center of the park. Sound As
eleven men behind the ball as they rotate across the field.
Left hand side is Martinez now center of the parks,
flicked in by Fernandez, headed away by Kolan, who's had
another good solid outing on that right back spot, getting
a battering into the face with a bloody nose, and

(02:40:21):
we certainly wish Della Vega all the best. We're going
to wait to see what reports we get coming out
of New York and there's a referees whistle And for
the Sounders, it was a hard for ninety minutes, but
they deserved what is now a win. And it was
a goal by Morris, his first goal since coming back

(02:40:42):
from injury. Much needed goal for Jordan Morris and equalized
by New York City. And then it was a powerful
headed by Jackson Reagan, who should be named in my opinion,
man of the match defensively was fantastic, powerful header gets
the third goal from a cornerkick for the Sounders this
season and what a time to do it.

Speaker 6 (02:41:00):
Brat your final thoughts, Yeah, well done from the Sounders. Look,
it's always difficult to travel across the country and you
got to leave on a Thursday train there again on Friday,
and especially at the tail end of the season. It
was the only Western Conference Eastern Conference matchup this weekend
and it happened to be the Sounders, so credit to
them for traveling across the country. Alex Roldon steps in
as center back once again. Colonie has a right back,

(02:41:20):
so still a little bit of a mix up in
the back line, but able to come out with a
victory and to get Jordan a goal tonight was massive
for the Sounders. His confidence, you see the players surrounding him,
you see the coaching staff. But like you said, Jackson
Reagan was fantastic tonight and that header was something special.
You just love to see it, right.

Speaker 11 (02:41:40):
Dominant performance by Jackson Reagan on both sides of the ball,
and eventually the Sounders manage to claw out a really
important three points to get in the confidence to move
forward into the playoffs. So thanks for everyone involved in
today's broadcast. Jackson Fell is doing double duty on the
board and pregame posts in half, Keeey Dunning, Kevin k
Jordan Thompson is always for their help and support as

(02:42:02):
we build up towards every single game here on Sports
Radio KJR, and of course the brad Evans alongside me
here in the booth. Well, it's a good win on
the road in the Big Apple. And next up for
the Sounders is the first round of the playoffs, the
best of three, and the Sounders will travel first. The
schedules still to be determined, and we'll find out in

(02:42:22):
the coming hours who will play in that best of
three series. With a first and third game on the road,
second game at home, and let's hope we can eke
out a win on the road and get a win
at home where we've been so dominant a luminfield, and
we'll see what happens. Don't leave us, though, Jackson felt,
Pete fume. We'll be back after the break. I'm Danny Jackson.

(02:42:43):
Thanks for joining us this evening from City Field in
New York City, where it finishes New York one Sounders two.

Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant.
