Speaker 1 (00:00):
There's a lot to get to.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Award season is here for Major League Baseball Manager of
the Year is later on today. I think it's in
two days. Do we confirm this? Two days is when
they announced the MVP thirteenth Thursday. Baseball likes to spread
out and they think they're the NFL. They can have
twenty four seven? Is that what they want to do? Okay,
So we'll talk to him about He did a story
on his awards and what he's looking at as far

(00:23):
as that is concerned, and a lot just kind of
put a ball in the season heading to the offseason
for the Mariners as well. Get his thoughts on what's
coming up the He did write about the point shaving.
I'm going to touch on that because it is Listen.
You know my policy on the NBA right is refused
to talk unless there's something significant. Did you see Kate

(00:47):
Cunningham's line last night in the NBA?

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Okay, so he missed thirty one shots. Okay, he missed
Let me emphasize this thirty one shots.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Out and take the one shots. He missed thirty one shots.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yeah, that's why I was of.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
He took forty five.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
That's bad.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Because I can, and we're just sports radio. Nobody takes
it serious. We're just sitting here shooting the you know
what here, help me out here with the NBA, did
they not just have a couple of guys, a sitting coach,
a player, and then another assistant coach get indicted for

(01:31):
gambling issues. Did that help me out?

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:35):
No, okay, I read the news and you can get.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
From that that did. Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
So a sitting coach, yes, a player and assistant coach
all are in trouble for that.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Okay, So that's.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Confirmed, confirmed, in trouble.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
I need your help here, okay.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
With baseball, yes, with the baseball side of it, with
classe and who is the other guy? Okay, those two guys,
what were there and what did they get accused of doing?
Besides I mean what what what exactly they happened?

Speaker 1 (02:05):
They were together, by the way, they were sports right,
I believe in you.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
Okay, they were allegedly paid to have their first pitch
of it at bat ball.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
So just like a little it's like a little player
prop Yeah, like a little player prop right. Okay, that's
what they got busted for. Yes, and they're in big trouble,
like it just got took to the next level the
other way. Yes, big trouble. So that's what happened with
those two guys. So let me bring it back to
your league.

Speaker 6 (02:35):
Mind.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Well, you watch it. I do because of I get it.

Speaker 7 (02:39):
I do.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
I'm married into the NBA.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
So player props.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Does it not smell fishy a guy taking forty five
shots because.

Speaker 6 (02:52):
That that is left over microwaved and re microwave.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Okay, that that is.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
That's how that right, that's as fishy as it gets
forty five.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
You play in a league.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
I'm not saying he did something weird, No, but what's
the player prop it? Probably if it's made field goals,
over on shot attempts well or over on over on
shot attemps. Well, I mean that would have been he
probably blew by that in the first half, but made
field goals.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Yeah, right.

Speaker 6 (03:21):
Also, isn't the team involved at that point? Why are
you still delivering? Why are you still putting the ball
in that person?

Speaker 1 (03:28):
What's I don't know, good question. No, I'll tell you
right now.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
That's like really won by two internet so he's their
best player too.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
It's like, okay, you keep feeding the guy.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Sure, No, I'm sure, it's all on the up and up. Yeah, Chauncey,
But like that just screams weird to me, Like it
just it doesn't pass the sniff test. It just doesn't.
You took forty five field goal attempts? Did you bet
on yourself to somebody say, hey, listen, I got ex
and you're making more than twelve field goals?

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Well, yeah, I can do that. That's easy.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Well you're gonna have to take forty five shots to
get there, Like, I don't know. And I bring it
back because yeah, because Joe wrote about the gambling and
let me be the last the last ye wait, yeah,
the last line he says.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
It addresses the specifics of the alleged wrongdoing by colass
A and Ortiz, but it fails to do anything about
the larger issues of micro betting.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Micro betting.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Now we have a new thing.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Player props. Yes, player props, which which, by.

Speaker 6 (04:37):
The way, I know a guy taking a first ball.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
I mean, I'm I'm delving into MG in the midday territory.
He's a he's a king of player props, Like that's
what he loves more than anything. So that's a conversation
I'm going to ask him about tomorrow. But like, yeah,
like those are the things that are the easiest thing,
Like if you're gonna you know, Pete Rose bet on

(05:00):
baseball and it was wrong, I I by no means
it might. But he's his.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Team to win, to win every single time.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Hard to control. Like, because you're managing, you'd want your
team to win every game. Throwing a ball on a
first pitch, taking x number of field goals or making
X number of field goals on x number of all
those things a lot easier to do. Sports has a problem.
It just does. And you know, like I people here

(05:30):
complain a lot Mark does and others about the fact
that you can't wager unless you're at a tribal casino.
I'll be honest with you, I think it's the best
thing in the world. Maybe just I'm maybe I just
have no self control because I'm sitting there last night
watching the worst Monday night football game ever ever. Keith

(05:53):
and I were watching this thing, going this is just
last six is pretty bad too. The Bronco I had
hockey team, so I watched, but this, well, these are
two good teams. Yeah, yeah, allegedly here's I if I
had my so callal me casino app in my hand,
which I did, but I had it's geo fenced. The
only thing that would have made that thing better is

(06:14):
just chasing all kinds of stuff, right, yes, And so
I'll be at first swimmit. I don't have the self control.
So maybe it's a good thing that.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
You have to physically go to call me right yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
And like so in games a lot harder to do. Right.
That's we're doing March Madness.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
And then my buddy Shrek takes me down a rabbit
hole and we end up betting on Texas A and
m Christy versus East Illinois Wesleyan in a sixteen versus
sixteen matchup that in itself says I have a problem.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
I get it, but.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
But it controls you.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
But it all but in all, seriously, I'm gona, I'm
gona ask you about this, among other things. So I think,
really he brought some really good points, Like it's a
little scary these little this little player props. Now, I
don't know about other casinos. I know, so qual Me
does a really good job. They limit the parlays in
terms of what you can wrap into a par single
games aren't usually.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Allowed at the window.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
But they won't.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
But they won't let you do like a single game.
It's like one thing per game, which is probably a
good idea. Yes, like it's probably a good idea. But
baseball is trying to limit it now to two hundred
dollars for these bets. Right, come on, that's not the problem.
Here's the other thing. The problem is not necessarily fan
duel or draft Kings or still call me casino. It's

(07:26):
the other stuff. It's the underground stuff. And if you
don't think that, listen, man, I could make a bet
right now if I wanted to. I've got a guy.
I don't use him, but I got a guy. Who
has a guy. Everyone has a guy. Everyone has a guy,
got a guy. It's not the limiting it's not the
ones that are sanctioned that. Those aren't the problems. That's
what you can track, right, You can track that unless

(07:49):
you're Chauncey Billups and you get so deep involved into it,
then all of a sudden, then you who tracks the
federal government?

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Yeah, let's.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Just go to snow exactly. It was an interesting thing today.
It was interesting thing when he wrote, I'm gonn talk
to him about that? Among other things, his MVP. You're
not gonna like I'll just I'll just I'll just tell
you right now how to spoil it. Well, maybe you're
not a big fan of of You might not be
a fan of cal Rawley.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Who is it? Or show Hey o Tani? Who knows?
All right?

Speaker 6 (08:18):
You know, like we need a remix of sir mix
like I Like Little Butts. I guess if you're not
a fan of Cow like I Like Little Butts, that
I do not lie would be the song.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
Thank you sir mix mix mix.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
You please do that for us?

Speaker 8 (08:38):
All right?

Speaker 1 (08:38):
That's mix.

Speaker 2 (08:39):

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Joe Shehian's good man.

Speaker 9 (10:17):
It was expecting to be having such negative baseball talk
for in November. But I guess we got to lead
off with that.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
We are going to get to that just in a second, Joe,
She and Joshian Newsletter Joshian dot Com first and foremost.
And I'll say this it again. I've really really enjoyed
this year with you again on the air every Tuesday
during the baseball season. I'm getting nods from both both
my Anders and Jessman are both nodding their heads in
agreement right.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
Now of the week.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Personally, wow, look at that. Okay, I'll let everybody else know, Anders,
you don't like them, tell them all a lot boys,
get out of here. I'll tell Crawford a company. No,
but no, seriously, Joe, this has been fun. We did
it for a couple of years, got away from him
for a couple years, started again last year. I really
enjoy our conversations every week, my friend.

Speaker 9 (11:00):
I appreciate it. I appreciate that. Anders. I'm glad you
got my check, Glad to hear that that went through.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
But go ahead.

Speaker 9 (11:07):
It's a pleasure. It's a pleasure to talking to all
of you, Jessamine, and there's ue and and it's just
fun to come on have some good baseball talk. Each week,
and of course the Mariners gave us plenty to.

Speaker 8 (11:15):
Talk about this year.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
That was the kind of was the icing on the
cake and made it fun. I show also to make
sure we thank our friends at Northwest Handling Systems. They

(11:36):
thanks in Northwest Handling Systems. They take care of us
us with a few things and including Joe and uh
and that's why we're able to have them on every week.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
All Right, I'm gonna get to Awards.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
I'm gonna get to off season and even kind of
a wrap up of the season as a whole, and
what happened in the World Series which was epic, and
all those things. In a second, I do want to
start with this Joe. I started my show out today
and then I made a note I'm going to talk
about this because I didn't think it passed the sniff test.
And then I look at Joshian dot com, and you
wrote about a different sport, but a thing that was
obviously on everyone's mind right now. And that's the class

(12:08):
A and Ortiz thing with the betting scandal in Major
League Baseball. Last night, Kate Cunningham took forty five field
goal attempts for an NBA team, Like forty five miss
thirty one shots. Okay, not like the NBA has any issue,
Oh wait, they do. Like player prop bets are the
easiest ones out there. Throwing a ball in a baseball

(12:29):
game might be the easiest player prop bet as opposed
to how many shots are you going to take in
a game? But nevertheless it comes to play. You wrote
about it, and I think I mentioned this with Anders
and Jess in the first segment. Micro betting define micro
betting for me, anything.

Speaker 9 (12:46):
That isn't the result of the team's performance in the game,
which would be a money line, spread, bets, totals, anything.
It's just focused on what a player is going to
do under six and a half strikeouts over forty seven
and a half shots. I had that last side, and
what a bad beat on cakes getting.

Speaker 8 (13:02):
It out problem.

Speaker 9 (13:07):
And that's where we're getting into the log from a
lot of our mechanisms for finding bad actors are predicated
on the larger markets, and it's just very, very hard
to regulate and monitor all of these smaller markets, even
things as small as what will the next pitch be
a ball or strike? Will it be abobber below ninety
four and a half miles an hour, which is what

(13:27):
Costs and Artis were trying to exploit when they got caught.
It's also the area where players are taking a lot
of abuse.

Speaker 8 (13:34):
Now there used to be you're struck out with.

Speaker 9 (13:36):
The bases loaded, and people were set because you blew
it for your team. Well, now people are accepted because
you didn't hit the total base prop and you actually
cost that money. So we see an upstick and player abuse,
and players have talked extensively about this. I want to
say the athletic has been all over the story talking
to players about the way they're getting abused, not just
on a you stink in more of a you cost
me money angle. So there are a lot of reasons,

(14:00):
and I'm pro sports gambling, but even I'm coming around
with the idea that because of the risk involved for
its lisploitation, because of the ways players are being treated.
Maybe this is something we need to look at and say, hey,
this maybe isn't the best thing for not just for
the sport, for the players, but also for the fans
and the bench.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Yeah, and I'm with you, I'm you know. Listen.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Our show is sponsored by snocalomby Casino Now in Washington.
We have all of our sports wagering is done tribal
casinos on premises. It's geo fence. But I'm you know
there Snow Colombie is a great partner for us. We
love them and I partake in it up there. I
can't do NHL, I'm not allowed to because I work
for the Kraken, but I can do other things up
there and so, which is fine, and I think it's great.

(14:38):
I think player props are the ones that I think
are interesting. Because Graham Gino just talked about this. I
think he's with the Giants now, right, the kicker, longtime
kicker in the NFL, And he was talking about the
other day it used to be NFL players would get
grief because they cost somebody a fantasy football game, right
like oh man, Well, now, as he said, hey, I've
made plenty of kicks I've missed plenty of kicks, and
now I've got people saying, hey, you know you missed

(14:59):
that fifth four yard or I lost you know that
cost me points. I lost my game by you know,
a point, and you know that's fine. Now it costs
people cash money. Are player prop bets the issue? Do
you think, Joe, and We'll be just look at baseball.
That's your kind of expertise, because it feels like player
prop bets in baseball. God, I forgot about the miles
per hour part of it, Like for a pitcher. It
just feels like it's way, way too easy to influence

(15:22):
it is.

Speaker 9 (15:22):
And remember this is all stuff that's we couldn't even
imagine it's fifteen years ago, right because we have this
real time data. Now you know, we're not just we're
measuring the pitch, but we can put that information out
there so that whatever your app of choice. And I'm
reluctant to name any one here because I don't want
to make it sound like it's one of one. The
problem is specific to an app, it's all of them.

Speaker 8 (15:42):
They all have had these bets. But you now have
these real.

Speaker 9 (15:46):
Time data feeds where an app can say, tell me
the speed of the next pitch over under that one
side of it, and immediately you'll have that response. And
it almost turns sports betting, which used to be, Hey,
I'm gonna put twenty five bucks on the Cowboys and
I'm gonna get three hours of entertainment. Now it's almost
like a slot machine betting the next pitch. Oh, I'm
betting the next pitch. And that's where the addiction, addictive
part of it comes in. So a lot of this

(16:06):
is a new problem. Whereas think about sports candles in
the past, think about a college basketball had a bunch
of them, Arab State, Northwestern, and NOIU in the fifties.
It was quite spread related and we all kind of
understood that this is a new way of manipulating the market.
And you know, MLB reacted personally, I did not know

(16:26):
that you could get four thousand dollars down on the
next pitch. I'm not a big time better, I mean
to the except that I've bet.

Speaker 8 (16:33):
It's never been in numbers like that.

Speaker 9 (16:34):
It didn't even occur to me because you get four
thousand dollars down on the next pitch. So they've what
they did in reaction on Monday is they agreed with
the books that they're only going to cap that at
two hundred bucks a pop and you can't parlay them.
So this at least reduces some of the incentive to
exploit these markets, right because you can only get two
hundred dollars down, isn't really worth the risk of breaking it.

(16:54):
But you still have I mean, it's still possible. It
doesn't mean it can't be done. It doesn't mean that
somebody's not gonna get mad about it, and it doesn't
mean that the all of the larger problems with prop betting,
with individual prop betting, micro betting.

Speaker 8 (17:06):
Still don't exist.

Speaker 9 (17:07):
This is something MLB does a lot where they solve
the last problem and they don't figure out, Okay, how
are we going to take a look at the bigger problem,
which is micro betting, which is exposing our players to
all of this anger, which is kind of gamifying the
sport in a way that look to me, there's a
really big difference between betting the narriners to win and
betting pulliard ery guests to have a game over and

(17:29):
one and a half toll of basis.

Speaker 8 (17:30):
And I say that as a guy who runs the gaming.

Speaker 9 (17:32):
News, that that gives out those picks, and I'm wondering,
now we should just not have those at all. We
should just keep betting to what does the team do, futures,
bets on who's going to win the World Series of
the super Bowl, and stop betting on individual players for
a lot of different reasons.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Yeah, it's an ongoing conversation, and I still think in
the other part of it, Anders and I brought this
up because mainstream gambling is okay now and is accepted
in most states, either tribal or otherwise. It allows, I
think the underground stuff to flourish even more too, because
that's where the problem is, right, I mean, that's where
the NBA guys got in trouble and stuff like that.

(18:10):
But you know, we'll see it's a conversation. I'm guessing
you and I might have this conversation again the next
few months as we see things take place. Let's go
on the field first and foremost. Wrap it up, Dodgers win,
epic series epic I would just say, great playoffs, Jill,
am I wrong? Just maybe I'm skewed because the Mariners
were involved, But I just felt like it was a
really you know, not every series was great, but it

(18:31):
just felt very entertaining this year the baseball playoffs.

Speaker 9 (18:34):
I'm gonna tell you a story. One of my good
friends is out in La a guy with the USC
with still one of my best friends. He was down
in San Diego with his eighty I'm gonna get trouble
if I get this wrong. I'm gonna say eighty one
year old mother in law. And she was absolutely completely
into the World Series. Not really a sports state at all,
certainly our baseball fan. And she, this woman, lovely woman,

(18:57):
was passionate about rooting for the dogs in this World Series.
And I think that illustrates what this series did. It
broke contained, It got out into the mainstream sports world
in a way that baseball hasn't done, probably since twenty
sixteen with the Cub story. This series had these playoffs
to make you to reach to your point, had everything,
had superstars showing out blood etou, the shohaio honey Yo,

(19:21):
your shinobu, gem mooto. That had great stories like Ernie
Clement going crazy and Will Climb throwing four innings of
shutout baseball in an eighteen inning game.

Speaker 8 (19:29):
It had great games.

Speaker 9 (19:30):
The Mariners and Tigers played two of them. You had
the Dodgers and Blue Jays playing a couple of them.
You had weird things like the or Rian Kirkering throwing
away the series against the Dodgers with a throwing error
in the tenth inning of that game. Everything it was
incredible play too. They were strategical. Strategical, Yeah, let's make
up more. It's just strategic decisions like all of the

(19:54):
all of the all of the intentional walks and all
the bunts that John Schneider was calling for, the fishing
decisions that Dave were vert constmated it. It had everything,
and I just it was really great to see people
who I would normally not expect to care about baseball
get excited about baseball, beat out left individual fans. It
was I don't want I don't like ranking these things.
It's all angels on the head of the pin for me.

(20:15):
But it was a great postseason capped by a very
entertaining World Series that hopefully we can capture this momentum
going into twenty twe sers.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
Yeah, Joe, I would say, it's funny my wife, who's
you know, as casual a sports fan, and I use
that term even loosely as it gets uh, you know,
there was carry over for her because she and others
in our family when I'm not even home watching and
probably was my son watching, they watched the World Series
and she, you know, she's asking, God, do you see

(20:43):
the end of the you know, the hunt. I was
doing a hockey game, But thanks for watching the hockey
game that I was broadcasting. I appreciate that a couple
of No. I did not watch the seventh the game seven,
but you know, I think we did see a carrier.
I go back in time. I think the Red Sox
breaking their curse. What nearly two thousands right for you? Yeah,
I think the Red Sox doing that. The Cubby's doing
the same thing, you know. And then obviously this year

(21:07):
there's certain times that it just it's what And we
couldn't even write the script. You couldn't even write down
exactly what the I don't think you could write down
what the formula was, you know, because it was Toronto.
It wasn't even a US based team. Maybe there was
an anti Canada thing, I don't know, fifty first State,
whatever it would have been. But it was just a
compelling year and it's good for baseball. Let's hope they
can carry it through. Did the best team win?

Speaker 8 (21:28):
Joe?

Speaker 9 (21:31):
This was a year where it was hard to defind
the best team. You had a whole bunch of teams
between ninety three and who the Brewers have ninety seven wins.
So I'm okay saying yes, especially since the Dodgers. The
dog won ninety three games while playing the whole season
in second year, putting through you know, a lot of
pictures on the io, letting them rest up, taking their time,
getting guys back from injuries. So I think if you said,

(21:53):
I think if he said at the start of the year,
the team with the most wins wins the championship, that
would have been the Dodgers. The Dodgers would have gone
through their season differently and probably had more success. And
I have a problem saying that the best team in
the postseason certainly was the champion. But I you know,
there were just five or six teams right at the
top of the league this year.

Speaker 8 (22:11):
It's really a change.

Speaker 9 (22:12):
I mean, we go back to the early part of
this decade, at the end of the twenty tens, and
there was like an upper class teams winning one hundred
and three hundred and five hundred and ten wins every year,
and we don't have that.

Speaker 6 (22:21):
Now.

Speaker 9 (22:21):
We have this very compressed top of the league. The
reasons for which we get into it at a time,
but it made it hard to say who was the best.

Speaker 8 (22:29):
Team in the league this year.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Joshi and Joy's probab to by Northwest Handling Systems, Joshian
dot Com, the Joshian Newsletter. Our baseball team goes into
the off season with three major decisions to make. Everyone else's,
for the most part, under contract. Polanco opts out, So
he's a decision they have to make in terms of
what the market and is a mutual decision. I should
mention this, These are all mutual decisions. You know, what's

(22:54):
what's Polanco going to do? What will Seattle offer him?
What will the market tell us about Polanco? What will
the market say? And what will the Mariners think about
Gino Suarez? Well, you know, good vibes only, and obviously
the big one is Josh Naylor. Let's go kind of
in order. Let's start with Josh Naylor. What what priority
should the Marriers place on him? And what do you
think the market's going to be for what Josh Naylor

(23:14):
is able to do on the field?

Speaker 8 (23:16):
Well, all part it.

Speaker 9 (23:17):
Should be to sad In Kyle Tucker. But if you're
not going to do that, I think Nayler is a reasonable,
less expensive option younger. Of the of the players are
talking about, he's the youngest. He plays a position where
the Manors really don't have a great secondary option. It
was one of the reasons they trained for him is
they couldn't really figure out for a space this year.
I like his baguin balance with the lineup. I like

(23:38):
the fact that he's more but you know, two to
eighty and doubles hitter for a team that doesn't really
have that and has a lot of strikeout guys and
a lot has a lot of guys hit the power.
But he fits to me within the context of that
line up, which we saw in the last few months
of months of the season in the playoffs.

Speaker 8 (23:53):
I don't think he's.

Speaker 9 (23:53):
Gonna steal fifty five paces, but I do think that
the rest of his game fits really well. I don't
I'm not saying don't re sign Hno Suarez, but I
would let somebody else out bid me if it came
to it. I would bring him back for a lot
of money.

Speaker 8 (24:07):
The years are the bigger things.

Speaker 9 (24:09):
I mean, we talked about him a lot during the summer,
and I think we saw the downside risk of the
two months he spent in Seattle, right granted, never going
to take away the game six home run, and that's
something that's going to live forever. But that's not what
you're buying. You're not buying the memory of that. You're
buying guys helping. Was he thirty five next year? Somebody
who in declined the defense is going. I think you

(24:31):
can fake third base with like a Crawford Williamson platoon
in a way that they don't really have a room
to fake first base. So I would prioritize Nailor over
over Suarez.

Speaker 7 (24:44):
And if Polanco, you know.

Speaker 9 (24:46):
Again, Cole Young, I think has to play. I think
by the middle of next year you're talking about bringing
Emerson up to your.

Speaker 8 (24:51):
Middland field set.

Speaker 9 (24:52):
If I could bring Polanco back as a DH for
a DH price, I would certainly give a shot at that.
He was very productive year in a very strange way.
He was stand usual for a month, and then he
was stand hacked for three months, and then he was
stand usual again, and of course again another guy who
had great productive at bats in the postseason, He's going
to go down and now in his history, but again,

(25:13):
you know, one year with an option, two years at
a reasonable price. I'm not giving Suarez or Polanco big
deal just because we know the aging curve now cuts
off very quickly these guys. You know, these guys really
do age fast, and they pushed out of the league
at thirty one, thirty two, thirty three. He has been
an exception, but I don't think I want to bet

(25:33):
on that for much longer.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
Yeah, I mean Planco's thirty two, Gino's gonna turn thirty five.
The what do you think the market will be for
Josh Naylor?

Speaker 8 (25:42):
Like?

Speaker 1 (25:42):
How much competition will Seattle have?

Speaker 8 (25:44):
Oh?

Speaker 9 (25:45):
I think there's going to be fair about I mean,
he's the type of hinter teams are looking for now
because of the greater bats of ball. I think they're
willing to sacrifice some upper end home run power for
that too.

Speaker 8 (25:55):
Eighty two ninety.

Speaker 9 (25:56):
Average, which it doesn't sound like much, but remember the
league gets two forty. That's like saying a guy hit
three ten twenty years ago. That's the kind of hitter
Naylor is. And again the doubles he's been pretty durable.
You know, he's not a great first station, but he's
a decent one. He hasn't hurt you over there, So
I think we bring a lot to the table. And
again twenty eight I believe that's that's important. You want

(26:17):
to sign younger free ation, especially if it's probably going
to take I think it's gonna take four years. Even
remember he doesn't have the draft pick attach to him.
This is what we saw last year with Alex Preglan,
who saw with Nikolonso Pinalnza not having that draft pick
compensation attached makes a very big difference in how many
teams are going to be in your market. So I

(26:38):
think Nailer is going to do very well. My estimate
for him is like four and one oh eight to
twenty seven million a year, and you know, take that
in either direction, but that's I think going to be
where I think he lands. But I do think if
I can keep that to a four year deal so
that I'm not I don't have to lock him up
into his mid thirties. I think that's a good signing
for the Mariners because of what they're doing. And let's

(27:00):
keep in mind the Mariners have to I don't have
to win now or anything like that, but you're bringing
back a full starting rotation. There aren't three teams in
baseball who aren't in the market for a starting pitcher
this year, and the Mariners are one of them. So
you can focus entirely of spending your money on the
bats that you need to support that staff.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
Yeah, I think that's the thing with him is I
think that the re signing of Naylor is probably the
biggest offseason priority and move that this team's had in
a long time, because how you keep everything going in
that same direction and all the Gino's term good vibes
from what you just did last year. If you lose

(27:39):
really a guy that you don't get there without him,
right like, and that's and and if you don't, the
perception is right or wrong because the player asse to
side where he's going to sign, it would be because
of finances. So that's that's a it's for a lot
of reasons. Josh Naylor is one of the most important
things they've had for this team in a long long time.
Joe Shean, before I let you go, you peep can

(28:01):
go to the Joshian newsletters see all the rest of
what he would put down for the awards. We'll find
out in a couple of days who should be the
al MVP.

Speaker 9 (28:10):
Oh look, gotta go getting late here we have we
have this fantastic year talk in baseball, and that's how
you're gonna send me into the winter. You're really gonna
make me do this.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
Yes, we have that kind of relationship. We're that close.
We could do this.

Speaker 9 (28:27):
That's so cool.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
Well listen because it could happen and I want to
And when it does happen, you're a guy that could
tell us why it will happen.

Speaker 9 (28:35):
I published my ballots earlier this week or last week.
November is a bit of a blurdout, and I did
have Aaron Judge first head of cal rapping, and as
I explained it, it's one hundred points of OBP and
one hundred points of slugging versus catching. Was an eleven
hundred innings and that's really what the conversation came down to,
and I landed on the OBP and slugging part of it.

(28:56):
If you look at the war figures, Judge is either
ahead by a lot or by a little. I give
some extra credit for catching beyond what you might find
in our war calculations because of the value of doing so,
and I just I still couldn't get there with rally
because Judge was just that good. It's the second time
in four years that Judge has been so incursion, that
Judge has been so incredible that it's nudged out in

(29:18):
historic season. Remember he won the twenty twenty two al
MVP over Sho Heotani, who had one of his show
Heo Tani two way seasons. That's how good Judge has
been at his peak, that he's been better than a
two way season by Sho Heo Tani. And now it's
sixty home run season by a catcher. I don't think
there's a wrong answer. If a thousand people call in now,

(29:39):
and of course it'll mostly be about Seahawks, but the
one person that wants talk baseball calls in and they
want to say I'm an idiot for not taking Rally,
I'll wear that.

Speaker 8 (29:47):
I don't think it's.

Speaker 9 (29:49):
A seventy to thirty call. I'm not even sure it's
a sixty forty call. I landed on the Judge side
of it. I expect the voting to be split and
Judge to win. With let's say he gets seventeen of
the third of the thirty first place votes, so it'll
be pretty close.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
I don't think can go wrong. That's the thing.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
Like it's one of those years, right, like something. I
have a Heisman vote, Joe, and I'm grinding every weekend
and I'm watching and taping and watching, and I think
the linebacker at Texas Tech is the best player in
the country.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
But he's not going to win it. I'm not sure
who is. Like, there's no obvious choice.

Speaker 8 (30:23):
Is my? Is my?

Speaker 4 (30:23):
You know?

Speaker 6 (30:24):
Is my?

Speaker 2 (30:25):
What I'm saying here, Sometimes there's no obvious choice. Sometimes
there's two obvious choices. And that might be the case
this year with that Joe she And brought to you
by Northwest Handling Systems. From Forklist to Pallette racks, conveyors,
the loading doc equipment. We sell, rent and service all
your warehousing needs. Request a quote today NWHS dot com
or give them a call four two five two five

We'll call you again. Jessman has your number, so once
that happens, trust me she will call you again. Uh,
tell us about the Joe Shean newsletter place to read
about baseball.

Speaker 9 (30:59):
Cover October as you know, an now we're into the postseason.
Took a beat today to cover this classe and Ortez story.
Obviously not where I wanted to be writing, like hell,
but you know where the news goes. But you know
the hotstow please coming up and be covering every single team.
It's a big part of the newsletter. Make sure that
we get to every single team. And it used to
be oh, yeah, we'll cover the Mariners. Well, now it

(31:19):
means I have to say, hey, I cover the Nationals,
and I cover the Rockies, and I cover the Pirates.
It's not just Yankees, Cadagers, Clubs, Red Sox. And let's
say it's good reading. I think it's good reading. People
seem to enjoy it. I got a couple of thousand
subscribers who'd be get the newsletter for a while. Now
it's been sixteen years and I've been doing this and
I'm hoping to do it for another sixteen and hopefully
sixteen more after that.

Speaker 8 (31:40):
So hopefully I'll also begin to talk to.

Speaker 9 (31:42):
You for that long and glowing and thank you so
much for all of your supportive the news.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
Did I really appreciate man Joshian dot com. If you're
a baseball fan, casual or hardcore, this is where you go.
It's just it's I'll say this, and this is a positive.
It's different in that sense like it's fun. It's different,
it's not there's a lot of baseball writers out there.
The way you attend backet is just unique in your
own way. And I find it highly, highly informative and
entertaining and I can't wait to talk again. Like I said,

(32:06):
jess as your number, so uh be careful that funnel
ring very soon.

Speaker 1 (32:09):
Thanks my friend and Jessmine.

Speaker 2 (32:12):

Speaker 8 (33:03):
Put plans in place right now for Berkeley now that
he's pass the nine game mark and how he fits
into this team long termire for the season doesn't change.

Speaker 10 (33:11):
The plan doesn't change. You know, continue progressing, you know,
continue learning, continue to get stronger, continue to practice against
the National Hockey League players, and you know we'll continue
to progress this game in game as well.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
Blaye Lambert talking about Berkeley Cat and he played his
tenth game in the National Hockey League on Sunday in Dallas.
That means that his entry level contract kicks in. The
clock is ticking its three year contract, so he's in
year one of three. Yep, so restricted free agency. All
that stuff comes early, and it's not like they can't

(33:53):
send him back down, but it won't do them a
lot of good. It does them no good at this point.
It's much like what do we call it in baseball
time and that's the the June date or whatever it is, right.

Speaker 5 (34:03):
I mean, it just it all depends on how many
games you play. There's a bunch of different stuff and
how much of the year specifically that you you end
up playing right.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
So and that's and that's what it is. He's here,
He's going to be here, He's probably not going anywhere.
And I think more than anything, maybe now he can
relax a little bit, yes, like and just kind of
play the game and not have to worry about, you know,
making a mistake and getting sent back down to the
Western League in Spokane and all those things. He is
only nineteen years old, and that's pretty awesome.

Speaker 5 (34:34):
I mean, and like he's shown everything he can do
in the Western Hockey League, like how many, how many
hundred point plus points he scored last year, Like this
is the place where he's going to develop.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
Matt Murray is expected to start tonight in goal for Seattle.

Rams and the Seahawks for his new website, and I'm like, Okay,
it looks like it's a toss up of this game.
He just saw the Rams last week when they played

interesting those guys do stuff right off the get going.
I love when coach Oh, well, I'm not really sure.

possibly be twenty one, and I'm like, yeah, just barely.

Speaker 2 (38:32):
You didn't get you didn't get carded when we were
in Salt Lake and everyone got carted there.

Speaker 8 (38:42):
Twelve thirty. I remember that during the NBA Finals. Every
but he's like, uh, the games are over, but where
do we go for I'm like, for what? Yeah, yeah,
go ahead, sleep sorry twelve thirty. I can't go anywhere.

Speaker 1 (38:52):
I remember one one year in the playoff, Remember Green
Street that bar?

Speaker 8 (38:56):
Oh yeah yeah yeah, sy yeah, not really for a minute.

Speaker 2 (39:00):
I remember that that place state openly, that place stay openly.
That was okay, yeah, that was ill. Oh yeah sure
it's probably closed now all right. It's god, how do
we survive? Salt Lake City? Buddy, how did we survive that?

Speaker 8 (39:15):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
It was bro all right, So you send me this
long ass text and.

Speaker 8 (39:23):
Can I just go back? Can I just go back?
For really?

Speaker 4 (39:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (39:26):
On the stream, I just told Andrews this. You're supposed
to be the hockey guy.

Speaker 1 (39:29):
Yeah, I saw.

Speaker 8 (39:30):
I heard what you just did. There Andrews carry that
whole segment. It's like, here comes eating with the cracking minute.
And then Andrews told to talk about the nineteen year old.
You just kinda stap back and yeah, no, what was me?

Speaker 10 (39:40):
That was me?

Speaker 4 (39:41):
No, it wasn't.

Speaker 8 (39:42):
Oh, oh get everything.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
When you got the text and you're reading, oh, you
know what? Actually anything? And why why did I know?
Why did I Why did I lean on you? Why
did I lean because you got a text from John London?
I don't know. And it took me like ten minutes
to read this thing.

Speaker 8 (39:57):
Yeah, but I just did your work for you. You
don't have to anything. This is the biggest game in
the NFL this weekend. This is going to determine the NFC.
There's somebody Night's game Packers can't do anything off as
a joke. This is the best two teams in the NFC.
I mean, the Lions are good, but look, this is
this could be for number one, and the Seahawks are
starting to get their home Mojoe back and all this stuff.

(40:18):
This is, this is massive. So I just did your work.
I sent you side by side comparison because that's what
we do. We do this stuff. And I got great
I got some great stories because I went to the
ram blocker room just for you last week because the
Niners stink so bad. I just went, why am I
I've heard Kyle cry after losses two hundred times. I'm
gonna go see what you know McVeigh house to say,

(40:38):
and of course he's just like, byeck, I got you know,
So I did.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
I've been doing work for you, man, and I appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
John John Lenshould mention is now with Pro Football Wire
at PFB wire. Is that is the h on X
and all NFL all the time. I bring that up.
I have seven photos that you sent me and this
text the side by side, So yeah, my like my
daily power play. Anders had to help me because I'm
reading the longest text you've ever sent in your life

(41:07):
to somebody.

Speaker 1 (41:07):
That's what's going on.

Speaker 8 (41:08):
Well, I just look, it's only Tuesday. Yes, I don't
have a real job, so I'm not sure what day
it is, but but it's Tuesday, and I just sent
you everything for the week. You don't even have to work,
not that clearly after that pocket thing you just didn't do.
You don't work anyway, but I don't. Yeah, I get
point all the stuff.

Speaker 1 (41:25):
No, I appreciate it.

Speaker 8 (41:25):
I just basically sent you all the stuff.

Speaker 1 (41:27):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 8 (41:28):
Look what I get for it, grief. No, No, you
didn't do your segment because I sent the information that
is very useful for the week. Listen, biggest game in
the NFL this week. But that's okay.

Speaker 2 (41:37):
Listen, I'm pumping up this thing. I'm pumping up this
thing called Pro Football Wire.

Speaker 8 (41:41):
Like.

Speaker 2 (41:41):
I'm sure you're doing something later. I'm sure you got
a YouTube thing on there later at some point. So
and and all that work you did was not for me,
because you just said it. It's the biggest game in
the NFL this week, even though even though it didn't
get it done it anyway, even though it didn't get
flexed to the Sunday night football that might have been
actually that might be a protected game. All joking aside,
that probably was a Fox protected game. I would I

(42:04):
would think with l A, the LA Market and Seattle markets, Yeah,
I would. I would think that's a protect and good
guess let's watch that one twenty. I think there's a
good is it Lions and who is it?

Speaker 1 (42:13):
Lions? And somebody the Eagles right for Sday night football? Yeah,
it's a good like, it's a.

Speaker 2 (42:17):
Great one tail one Intel eight pm on Sunday is
flipping awesome. Now, I say that we should have had
a great Monday night game last night, and that thing
was the biggest turd I've seen in a long time.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
I kind of liked it.

Speaker 8 (42:28):
Well, but if you have YouTube TV like me, you
didn't have to watch it. No, that's good.

Speaker 1 (42:33):
It's Lion's Eagles, Lions, Lions, Eagles first. Well, that is
a game. It should be a good game.

Speaker 2 (42:38):
But the Eagles can't like, Yeah, Lane Johnson's hurt, the
Eagles won't be able to score again. Jalen Hurst, Jalen
Hurts from Jalen Hurts forgets he's got two elite wide
receivers and doesn't want to throw to him. Uh God,
I just I looked at this Pro Football Wire thing
on on the X. First thing that pops up is
is lund your face is stick sticking right out.

Speaker 3 (42:59):
Oh John, your famite, look at you.

Speaker 2 (43:03):
Trade deadline winners and losers. Jerry's world. Why you trade
Kyleer Dunn in Arizona?

Speaker 1 (43:10):
I love it all right, good stuff, Yeah, it's good.
So you saw that game.

Speaker 2 (43:14):
So first of all, let me get before I get
to the Rams and the Seahawks, the forty nine ers.
And I'm not saying this as a Seattle guy to
bust your chops and all that, you know, but Niners,
are they kind of done? Or are they just holding
out hopes to sneak in with a wild card?

Speaker 8 (43:29):
I think last week was the first week in all
honesty that it showed all the injuries. They just can't hang.
They're not an elite team. They did a nice job.
And Mac jo it's not Mac jones fault. It's just
defensively And you and I talked about this right at
the beginning of the year. I said, Robert Sala had
told me their defensive coordinator, that they were gonna that
six to eight rookies were going to get significant playing time. Well,

(43:49):
then when Bosa goes down and Warner goes down, and
Mickel Williams their first round picking a Georgia goes down.
Those are all front seven guys. That affects the secondary
because they can't get to the quarterback. They're not getting
to the quarter at all, which leads to what Stafford
is doing, which we'll get into in a minute. And
so if you give him all the time in the world,
they're gonna put up forty new points on you. So
that's what's going on. And like I said after the game,
i went down there rather than hear Kyle Shanam, which

(44:11):
I've done a million times, I went to hear what
your good friend, uh Jean McVay had to say. And essentially,
you know, seventy five percent of the press conference was
putting all this love on Matthew Stafford. But even at
the age of thirty seven, it's warranted because he's in
that stage where Brady was in. And I'm not saying
he's Brady, but what I'm saying is he's seen everything
you can throw at him. So if you're gonna throw

(44:31):
a blitz at him, which the nut which as I
sent to you and you know already the Seahawks don't do,
but neither do the Rams, but he's going to decipher you.
So this is gonna be a great chess match because
Mike McDonald has been doing such a good job. Even
though that the Seahawks have the lowest second lowest blitz
right behind Cincinnati in the league. If their back end
can hold up, which they can, and then they can

(44:53):
time out these blitches. And they did a bunch of
overloads last week against the Cardinals. That's gave them a
bunch of trouble and somehow confuse the Rams. Then maybe
they got a shot against Stafford. But what happened against
the forty nine ers was he just sat back there
with no pressure and it was boom bom boom, boom boom,
because the Niners just don't have the guys in the
front seven to put any kind of pressure on Matthew Stafford,

(45:13):
and he just picked his poison.

Speaker 1 (45:15):
Basically, I think I still think.

Speaker 2 (45:17):
I mean, I'm just the NFC's wild because we were
just talking about this issue with Mike Sandal. I'm sure
you know Sandal from the athletic and based out of here.
He does stuff with us every week, and you know
we're going through Philadelphia, Seattle, Detroit and La Rams. I
think those four teams are true, true contenders in the NFC.
Tampa Bay lots of injuries. Green Bay. There's something not

(45:41):
right there. I don't know what it is. I mean,
it's just there's something not right a part of his
receiving situation. They don't have receivers, and they got bow
Melton playing corner end receiver. He ain't Travis Hunter, but
they had him doing that last night. And then you know, Chicago,
I don't know how you're six and three, Chicago. Your
quarterback couldn't hit the ocean, you know, I mean, couldn't
put water in the ocean.

Speaker 1 (45:59):
He's awful, like he's like he is.

Speaker 2 (46:02):
Caleb is awful and off script he's fine, like off script,
he's fine, but off script.

Speaker 8 (46:10):
You can't make a living that way in the NFL.
At some point you gotta be a drop back down.

Speaker 2 (46:14):
At some point you got to actually put your foot
in the ground and stick it to guy like Rome
or whoever it is. And he doesn't do that, but
that's fine. San Francisco I think is going to get in.
I just I I because listen, it's really gonna between
San Francisco, Chicago, and Green Bay for a wildcard spot
for two of the three wildcard spots. I think they'll

(46:34):
you still have enough offens or to get in and
then and then you're gonna be in this situation where
I was gonna be like, I know they're hurt, but
I really don't want to see McCaffrey and Purty and
maybe I Yuke's back and Kittle at that point, Like
that's what's gonna happen, right, Like that's what's gonna happen
with San Francisco. But it's also why this game this
week is so big with Seattle in LA, because you

(46:55):
don't want to be a wildcard team like you may
end up going to Tampa or whatever it might be,
but you don't want to be a wild card team
like that's you want to have home field advantage, even
if it is so far or maybe Luman's coming back
to being what it used to be. But that's why
this and I think it's a bigger game because it's
at home. John, I'd make the arguments a bigger game
for the Rams and it is for Seattle.

Speaker 8 (47:15):
Well, think about it. The places that you could possibly
go now this weekend when they go to LA, that's
not an intimidating place to play, and it's the most
annoying you and I have talked about it. I mean,
if people hate you know Levi's I get it. But
so Fi is a million times down the guitar playing
girl and the guy yelling our house. It's honestly, it's

(47:38):
three quarters the other team. So the irony of this
jackass in that in Sofi and a lot of Seahawk
fans go down there, know what I'm talking about, who's well,
and it's like not yours the other teams. Every time
the Niners go down, it's all Niners every time they
know insame with the Chargers, even though they don't use
that dumb moniker, but it's it's the other team. They

(48:01):
don't even fill their own stadium. Maybe they do in
the playoffs, so it's typical LA. But but the places
you could potentially go if you don't win the division, Philly,
Green Bay, places like that, Detroit, which is extremely loud
in the playoffs. That's the difference versus and I get
it that the Seahawks are really good at home. I'm
sure there's someone yelling in their car right now. This

(48:21):
jackass is saying, we can't win on the road. They can,
but I don't care what the record says and how
many they won in a row. It would be a
lot nicer if it was at Lumenfield versus Saint Philly,
which I've covered playoff games there. It is nasty, and
I mean you've been in all those places. Yeah nasty.

Speaker 1 (48:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (48:38):
Seattle beat Philly and Philly in a playoff game a
few years ago, but I remember it. Yeah, but it's
when Philly had like no quarterback, like the carcass.

Speaker 8 (48:45):
They like jumped up and caught that one to see.

Speaker 2 (48:47):
Yeah, DK set a record for receiving and it was
the rodden carcass of Josh McCowan I think ended up
being the quarterback Carson. Yeah, in Philly because Carson wentz
at my head there.

Speaker 6 (49:00):
I like.

Speaker 8 (49:02):
I like Philly.

Speaker 1 (49:03):
I like Philly. I like I think it's a blast.
I think it's awesome.

Speaker 3 (49:06):
It was I felt in doctor.

Speaker 2 (49:07):
Tell right now, Cleveland's worst. Cleveland's the worst. Cleveland is
a worse environment. Yeah, it's it's far worse.

Speaker 8 (49:14):
Dog pounds. Just enjoy that, you know, right, every is
the claim, the claim the fame in Cleveland is because
I was at this game. They there was at one point.
I'm gonna age myself past my barely twenty one. But
the glass there used to be glass bottles with NFL games,
you can believe that. And in the Dog Pound they

(49:35):
were pissed off and they started throwing beer bottles onto
the field and that's when they went plastic at NFL games.
Thanks to Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (49:42):
Thank you Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (49:43):
Oh that's history.

Speaker 1 (49:45):
That's history.

Speaker 2 (49:46):
John might be right, John Lon joining us. All right,
So red zone, red zone offense, let's talk about that,
because you just sent me something interesting there. And this
is I think, honestly, when you start talking about games
with two teams really close league, you know, hooked up
and stuff, I don't look at the the Darnel interceptions
are weird because he saw some weird ones this year,
like when it doesn't matter, like against the Commanders when

(50:08):
they're up by forty, you know, and last week you
threw just a weird one when they're up big it
doesn't matter. But the red zone offense period, who has
the advantage Seattle.

Speaker 1 (50:18):
Or LA, Well, it's interesting.

Speaker 8 (50:21):
Both are really good red zone teams, but LA is
elite when it comes to the red zone offensively. And
then if you look at red zone defense, again, the
Rams are second best in red zone than the Seahawks
are seventh. I mean again, they're really really but and
the Seahawks are really good. So really what it comes
down to is both are very efficient offensively. I mean,
what's really interesting about the whole thing is they're very

(50:42):
very close in all different ways. Pressure rate, you know,
it's been famous that the Seahawks don't blitz a lot,
neither to the Rams, but yet both teams get home
the big key. So you just talk about red zone
and third down, which are massive. Third down percentage allowed,
the Rams are number two in all of the NFL
only thirty three percent. So elite defense when it comes
to the Rams in the red zone and on third down,

(51:03):
elite offensively are the Seahawks in the red zone as well.
So it's going to come down to those two things.
One thing that's really interesting in looking at the numbers
and not get to get to dorky on this whole thing,
is the Rams lead the league in light box. What
that means is seven guys in the box, eight not nine.
They're not running up the safety. So if you watch
them and they do a lot of personnel where they

(51:23):
keep three linebackers on the field that unlike Seattle. Seattle's
number one in the league. They just keep Nickel out
out there all the time, which is good against the Rams.
But can the Seahawks, who even though they're not one
of the better running teams in the league in three
point eight yards per carry, but they're second in the
amount of carry. So what that tells you is Kubiak
doesn't care. He just continues to run the football regardless

(51:44):
if the Seahawks could get that number to say four
and a half yards per carry, and the Rams continue
to run light box. And what that means also is
Matthew Stafford's standing on the sideline. So I know these
things are really obvious to talk about. Jesus. The Seahawks
can run the football, they'll win the game, thanks genius.
But it does so many different things, and the Seahawks
will continue to run it regardless of how they run it.
But the Rams don't have to blitz the quarterback to

(52:05):
get there. And the Rams can use seven and still
stop the run. So can the Seahawks take advantage of
the team that runs light box most defensively in the league.
And that's the Rams.

Speaker 2 (52:15):
The you watched him, and for you able to know
John worked in Detroit for a while before moving back
out west. You've watched Stafford probably as much as anybody,
and covered him as much as anybody.

Speaker 1 (52:26):
I heard that.

Speaker 2 (52:26):
I've heard this talked about, and I just think it's
I think it's one of those great misnomers out there that, oh,
you know, Stafford is just a sitting duck. He's a
statue back there. And I always think, No, he's not Lamar,
he's not Mahomes, he's not Caleb, but maybe he's Ben Roethlisberger.

Speaker 1 (52:43):
Maybe you could explain it better. I think he's a
hard guy to bring down. A.

Speaker 2 (52:46):
He gets through the ball quickly, but B he's big
enough and strong enough, and he has those slide steps.

Speaker 1 (52:52):
He does those things.

Speaker 2 (52:53):
It just feels like he's he doesn't get taken down
as often as he should for whatever reason.

Speaker 8 (52:59):
He's he doesn't have great movement skills. But there's a
big difference. People get lost in this difference, which is,
like you said, movement in the pocket. Again, Brady, especially
at the end of his career, he couldn't move, but
he could slide in the pocket. And Marino is at
the end and at the bad needs, but he could
slide in the pocket and then they have a lightning
quick release and Stafford still has one of the best,
if not the best arm of the league. Josh Allen

(53:20):
up there. There's a few other guys, but it's his
ability pre snap to say I know where I'm going
to go with the football, and a lot of times
it's pook and akua that makes it easy. And I
think whether Devonte Adams plays is a huge thing, but
he knows where he's going with the ball generally before
it snaps. So it's going to be interesting what Mike
McDonald does because even though they don't blitz a lot.
We just saw against Arizona now Ja Kobe Brissett's totally different,

(53:41):
but the amount of pressure that they can get if
they can get in Stafford's face, he has had games
where he gets sacked and there's a ton of pressure
on him. He might be the toughest guy in the
league just in terms of the way he'll get hit
and just keep getting up, keep getting up, keeping that up.
You and I talked about it at the beginning of
the year with his back hold up, and clearly it
is he's not making mistakes, he's not throwing interceptions. They're

(54:03):
in terms of, you know, running the football, They're not
where the Seahawks are, so it's going to be on
his arm. But yeah, it's really difficult to get to him.
But the main reason I is he just gets rid
of it's so damn fast. He just know what's where
he's going with the football. He's seen everything in thirty seven.
You're not going to throw something exotic, although I would
imagine that Mike McDonald the way he does things, he's
probably got a few things in his pocket for this

(54:25):
week and if those things hit, then they can have
some major success against Stanford.

Speaker 2 (54:29):
By the way, while you were saying that, I just
had a bite of a Chris Bean burrito from Taco Time.
Big shout out to our friends at Taco Time final
shoved in my face by one Dave softy mar But
I'll take take that again.

Speaker 1 (54:41):
It was a little bit you need.

Speaker 8 (54:43):
Are you even one of those rolled up one?

Speaker 1 (54:44):
Those rolls up burritos are so good, they're the best.

Speaker 2 (54:47):
That's absolutely big time. I love you guys, Chrispine be
farrito fantastic. Go back to the interception. I look at
interception rate too, because I think a lot of people
are like, okay, how many times you've been sacked, you know,
and and all that the sacks per pass attempt to
go back to what you said, Stafford fourth in the league,
which is fourth best, like four point five percent of
time he sacked, and number two in the league is

(55:09):
Donald at four point three. Those guys neither one of
them get sacked, which is wild because I just wasn't
that long ago we had a short, little diminutive quarterback
here that complained about getting hit all the time with
by the way, when he did that, we had the
same two tackles and Lucas and cross but I'll move that,
leave that there the but yeah, but tho. So both

(55:30):
those guys get rid of the ball. The interception rate
is the one that just jumps off the page. Stafford
zero point six four percent, third best in the league,
third best in the league. Hurts his number one, but
that's because he's checked down Charlie and barely throws and
Baker may and Baker Mayfield's number two, but they're actually
tied Stafford, and for some reason they'd rank him. They're

(55:50):
both zero point six four Stafford just kiss for the
ball Donald twenty ninth three percent of the time. Now
again I'll go back, not all interceptions are created the same.
Like I like, he threw two passes the other day
in the second half. Two, So the race goes up
higher because they've blown teams out and he has had
to throw the ball as much. But I think that
is better mentioning Staffords. Go back to what you said,

(56:11):
Stafford doesn't make mistakes period, end of story.

Speaker 8 (56:15):
Yeah, look, I get it with Darnold. It's some of
these have been kind of you know, even last week,
like Arizona was briefly we're not even really back in
the game. But like the Tampa game for example, obviously
that cost him game as great at the game as
he played. All I'm simply saying is, and this is
again an obvious thing, but turnover margin is massive in
this game. The Rams are plus seven on the in
the year. Around the year, the Seahawks are minus four. However,

(56:37):
we spin it. That's the fact, and we know what
the percentage are when teams win the turnover battle, especially
by more than one. The big number here, too is
the rams that were covered in NFL High eight fumbles,
so everybody's raking at the ball. Now, you know the quarterback.
Every time a guy gets hit, okay, one guy hold
him up, one guy rip it out. We've seen what
kind of differences that makes in the game. So yeah,

(56:58):
look again, an obvious thing is the turnover margin is
going to be huge because the Rams have been on
the good side of it, especially the covering fumbles, and
the Seahawks not as much. But I agree with you,
there's been some issues with Donald but again, he's s
fumbled the ball, he's been loose in the pocket with
the ball. That they know that, and you know how
that will works. These guys work on an all week long.
If you have a turnover issue and Dnald kind of

(57:19):
does then as great as he's played this year, then
that's what they're going to focus on. And that can
change games very, very simply. So that's the big thing
to me. The other big thing that nobody's really talking
about in this game. And I know it's kind of dorky,
but the Rams Joshua Cardy their kicker out of Stanford, yeh,
he's no longer and they've got this guy, the thicker kicker,
and he had six extra points last week in San Francisco.

(57:40):
Believe me, I watched them all, but he didn't attempt
the field goal. He's got two field goal attempts in
his entire NFL career. So I believe you know this
is going to be a close game down there in
LA when it comes down to it, Is it going
to be Jason Myers, the thicker kicker. I realize they're
inside its ideal conditions. It should be fine. But a
guy who's never made a field goal yet had six
extra points last week, and as bad as Carty was,

(58:01):
they had no choice. Kind of like Jake Moody here
in San Francisco earlier in the year, you just had
to make a choice. Now, Eddie Pinero has been amazing
for the forty nine ers, But what is this kid
going to do if it's a close game. Is it
going to be Myers or this kid? It really could
come down to special teams.

Speaker 2 (58:14):
It did last year in uh, it did last year
or two I guess the A's two years ago. Maybe
it came down to it right when when Myers missed
the long field goals. So who do you like in
the game?

Speaker 1 (58:23):
Real quick?

Speaker 8 (58:25):
You know what? I liked the Seahawks to upset them.
I just I know both teams are playing really, really well,
and the Rams have a really good defense. But there's
there's just a couple of things. I think that the
Seahawks will keep the turnovers and check. I think that
their ability to run the football against that like box
is a huge thing. And as great as Stafford has been,
I just think it's you know, it might be time.

(58:46):
There's gonna be ways. I think that Mike McDonald. I
know coaches do this, and so do you. They would
never say this, but I know that he's had this
thing circled on his calendar for a few weeks and
he hasn't shown some exotics. But I think he's going
to show. And it's also going to come down to
you know, Look is gonna make plays. JSN is going
to make clazy. These are the top two receivers in
terms of yards per game. Put me. You know, Nikup

(59:07):
has been injured a little bit, but come down to
DeVante Adams. Is he going to play? If so, how effectively?
But I just think that the Seahawks are playing great
at the right time, and I just think it's they
have an opportunity and again once the Seahawks have shown,
and you know this better than I do, that they're
going to be a good football team. They're going to
travel and I think that place is going to be
a Seahawks South football agree.

Speaker 9 (59:28):
I do.

Speaker 8 (59:28):
It's going to be so far south there. It's going
to be, you know, Illumin's south kind of thing. And
I think this. I think they're going to take over
that stadium.

Speaker 2 (59:35):
I saw the fans take over La Colise and be honest,
to be honest with you when they first move there,
and it's it's gonna be that way this week and
so fine and never they don't play home games, they
play neutral side at best.

Speaker 1 (59:42):
Real quick, tell peop about Pro Football Wire, the FB wire.

Speaker 8 (59:46):
I just sent e and all these things, and even
though he's complaining about it, I'm sure you would find
it all useful. So we'll make sure that we're going
to do a show tonight. We're going to preview all
the games, so make sure that this is going to
be tops on the list. I realize that the Eagles
and the Lions are a big game, but I think
that the winner of this game is to get the
top seed in the NFC. You guys are you guys
on YouTube, right, yes, YouTube and all your social media.

(01:00:06):
We put a ton of stuff on X throughout the
day as well, so make sure that you can follow us.
Would be great.

Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
PFB wire go check it out with Long. Great Stuffuddy,

Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
All right, real quick before we get to Factor Fiction.
Just as that pick today just from us just put
in fiction. Now I know from us to you, all
those out there that serve and have served in our
armed forces, thank you. Today obviously is the day that
we basically try to say thank you and honor the patriotism,

(01:01:30):
the service, and everything the sacrifice that all those who
have served have done for our country. We obviously have
a huge, huge military presence in our area Bremerton, JBLM, Everett,
all the way over if you're listening on the iHeart
and Spokane, Fairchild, the whole nine yards, and we do
not take that for granted, fake it for light lightly

(01:01:52):
at all. We appreciate all that you do. You're an
incredible part. You allow us to do what we do
talk sports. You allow people like our guy Nick and
others to listen to and enjoy sports, and so we
thank you. Memorial Day obviously honors those who died in service,
but Veterans Day is one where we want to honor
everyone who has served for our country. Thank you, thank you,

(01:02:15):
and thank you. Take a second today and think about
those and if you know someone who has served, make
sure you personally thank him along the way as well.

Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
Okay, let's think Greg Bell and Greg Bell there.

Speaker 3 (01:02:24):
You go, who is our own creesh? Yes, I think
that the.

Speaker 1 (01:02:28):
Only guy, the only guy fit enough to do so.
The rest of us no chance. Let's get to it.

And there's a couple of difference.

Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
What's a spread plus what's the spread? We don't care
about that.

Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
One Jets plus eleven, Jets plus eleven at the Patriots. Yes,
Jets plus eleven at New England. Fact four nine four
five one, Fiction four nine four five one. If you
think the Patriots are going to win by twelve or more,
I'll be honest with you.

Speaker 3 (01:03:29):
I don't think they're going I.

Speaker 1 (01:03:30):
Got no idea that's a that's a this is a
stay away game for me. That's a big spread the.

Speaker 6 (01:03:34):
App because no one else was gonna pick it. And
also the AFC East is so weird.

Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
Sha want me to put some juice on that one.
I'm a still me casino on Friday for you.

Speaker 3 (01:03:44):
I'll get I'll venmo you.

Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
Okay, we'll talk about that. We'll talk about that later.

Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
I don't have the app. Well, I can't use the
app and list.

Speaker 8 (01:03:51):
I'm there.

Speaker 2 (01:03:51):
So Jets Patriots, Jets plus eleven, eleven, Jets plus eleven
plus eleven at the Patriots Patriot If you disagree fiction
four Patriots, Man, all they do is just keep winning.

Speaker 5 (01:04:07):
Yeah, I don't hate this because I feel the same
way about the Patriots as I do about the Colts.

Speaker 1 (01:04:10):
It's bound to come back down to earth.

Speaker 6 (01:04:12):
Well, it's also the spread that I'm really picking again.
It's like I'm really not betting straight out.

Speaker 1 (01:04:18):
Were Now we do know the Jets of one two
straight games, right.

Speaker 3 (01:04:23):
I don't want false hope. I just to let me
like I still want them to keep getting those spin round.

Speaker 2 (01:04:31):
Drafted Jets were well on their way to a winless season,
losing their first seven, Aaron Glenn around.

Speaker 6 (01:04:40):
I have very good conversations with my father about that,
and I hear about it. I basically am a human
vent session over those. So yes, I am aware of that.
But right now I think it's the spread more sad
for me, and it's also a rivalry that has existed.

Speaker 1 (01:05:03):
For years, big NFL spread.

Speaker 3 (01:05:05):
So good for you say that's going to be a
closer game than eleven.

Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
Again, it's brought to you by the Lucky Eagle casino
and hotel where every day feels lucky. They're going twenty
four every Friday and Saturday. Twenty four hour gaming has
started at Lucky Eagle dot com. So where you go again,
Jets plus eleven at the Patriots fact four nine four
or five one if you disagree. Fiction game by the way,
So oh this Thursday, yep, So glad I've got a

(01:05:31):
hockey game that night. So glad I've got a hockey
game that Monday game. Just terrible, horrible, terrible games. I mean,
I get what, well, I mean, here's a cling to that.
Here's the problem is the is the NFL when they're

(01:05:53):
looking at their primetime schedules, you look at market size, right,
So Boston Market, New York market.

Speaker 1 (01:05:58):
Yeah, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:05:59):
But here's the thing that people forget. These decisions are
made by people in Manhattan, New York. They don't fit that.
They don't think there's any they don't think there's anything
outside of time.

Speaker 7 (01:06:10):
That is true.

Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
Like, I know, there was like a joke about the
East Coast bias.

Speaker 1 (01:06:14):
We're just there.

Speaker 7 (01:06:15):
I was over the.

Speaker 1 (01:06:16):
Weekend exist no Aska.

Speaker 6 (01:06:21):
Grew up in New York and then I lived I
went to school in Massachusetts, and then I lived in
Connecticut at ESPN headquarters, and everyone was so trying to
get rid of that East Coast bias when I was there. Yeah,
and I'm like, yeah, but you guys air Yukon like
fifty percent of the type, Like, what are you talking about?

Speaker 3 (01:06:38):
Yeah, this is totally East Coast bias.

Speaker 6 (01:06:40):
It's I did not know anything about the Seahawks untild that.

Speaker 3 (01:06:46):
One game.

Speaker 6 (01:06:47):
It was a two thousand and five season, and I
got to roll on Coach Holmegreen coming off the plane
and saying, I didn't know we'd have.

Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
To play the rest that one game super Bowl, by
the way.

Speaker 3 (01:06:58):
That one game, but it was my first it was
my first week working there. I'm just saying when I worked.

Speaker 1 (01:07:04):
Do you want me to bring that up with him tomorrow?

Speaker 3 (01:07:06):
I prefer you don't.

Speaker 1 (01:07:07):
Okay, I don't, and there's gonna be a reminder tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (01:07:11):
Yeah, well he started my career.

Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
He likes, he loves when I bring that stuff up.

Speaker 2 (01:07:15):
Yeah, did you know, by the way, last week he
brought up Roscoal himself, he brought up Ruscal himself.

Speaker 1 (01:07:20):
Last week it wasn't me.

Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
Maybe we should bring up Florio.

Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
No, it' soft to get to Dean b He he
really doesn't really doesn't like Blandino. I don't think he
likes anybody who was ever an officials.

Speaker 1 (01:07:38):
Mikes.

Speaker 2 (01:07:38):
Mike's that guy three six. So, by the way, we
don't have ESPN or ABC currently, thank you to TV.
Would have to watch that awful NFL game or the
NBA right now. Yeah, someone said, great pick, Jess, great pick.

Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
You're on a roll.

Speaker 3 (01:07:50):
Uh who is that my mom?

Speaker 8 (01:07:53):
For too?

Speaker 1 (01:07:53):
Five? Three? Sorry, I'm on a two.

Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
Game where somebody actually asking about the spread. Let me
just of course, tons of different spreads. We have to
go by this one, yes, website.

Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
I liked a different one better, but yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:08:07):
There I know there's one we have to use that's
that's the one. It is is eleven. That's eleven.

Speaker 4 (01:08:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:08:12):
Sorry, I'm stuck with that. Yeah all right, I am stuck.

Speaker 2 (01:08:16):

Speaker 1 (01:12:07):
How many? How many Crispy beef burritos could you eat
it one time?

Speaker 11 (01:12:09):
Well, it's funny you asked that because we're actually in
discussions with the ATACA time folks about having a Chris
Beef burrito eating contest at some point very soon and
maybe holding it in the parking lot of the Lat
Avenue store. So yeah, good idea. We'll find out, man.
I mean back in the day, I was like Kevin
Shockey and I both had a line together. We may
have lost weight, but we are still very capable of

(01:12:30):
eating a crap load of food. Six or seven Chris
beyf burritos. At some point they just start to burn. Man,
that's the problem. Shocky right, Shaky did the Oh yes right,
yes he did, Yes he did.

Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
Disgusting. I don't know if he wanted or not.

Speaker 3 (01:12:45):
Man, I feel like he did. I think I was
working across the street now, I just know what you
want one of your guys to win. I don't know
who was in it.

Speaker 11 (01:12:54):
The guys that win those contests, it's like their mouths
are like wood shippers, and they.

Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
I don't know how to do it, man, I have
no idea how they do it. I like the idea
of crispy beef for Britles. Is it beef for bean
with beef?

Speaker 7 (01:13:06):
We're going beef.

Speaker 1 (01:13:08):
Hey, you're in. You want to take part, You're in.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
