up at twelve twenty today and NickiScarlotta, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The Yankees, our guy who wentviral two years ago with that rant on
Instagram and has beg and I gotit. Well, we haven't talked to
him for a while. We hadhim on that year on this show at

(03:20):
least twice. He came to townhung out at the Queen Anne Beer Hall,
and the Mariners had him come out. He threw out a first pitch,
They give him a jersey. Theykind of embraced it and him.
We had him nitoring the playoffs. We even had him monitoring a molliwop once
with the boys. We haven't.We didn't get a chance to catch up.
I don't think with Nicky last seasonas much. But he's listen man,
all due respect to the beat writersout there. I need to have

(03:43):
something fun, and so Nicky's gonnajoin us the preview of the Yankees.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, theYankees and the Mariners. Their series starts
tonight. He just sounds like hometo me. Yeah, I bet it
does. I vet it does. His dad is cooking dinner every Sunday.
They're yelling at each other, athim and his twin brother. It's just
it's are They're a great follow onsocial media. So we'll catch up with
Nikki for the first time in awhile. Again. Fun guy, and

(04:05):
we'll have some fun with that comup. Twelve twenty malliwap Monday. Oh,
it is a molliwap Monday. ChrisCrawford Nathan Bishop will join us today
at one o'clock. Mariners losing twoof three over the weekend to the Baltimore
Orioles after winning the series previously againstKansas City. So a five hundred week.

(04:25):
We talked about it last week.Five hundred week, you'd be fine.
Uh, you'll be probably okay withthat. This is a tough stretch,
four games against arguably the best teamin the American League, in one
of the top two or three teamsin baseball. So we'll have that preview
coming up with the boys. Kirbygetting knocked around a little bit, hard
hit balls, barreled up, barreledup, barreled up balls. So we'll

(04:46):
get to that with him coming upwith the boys at one o'clock today.
Win it is needed, and winit's available. We will do what we
call the dumbest thing you'll hear today, and we've got I had another one
today courtesy of the National Basketball Association. Well that dumb things are said sometimes,

(05:11):
in this case, it was said. Now. I think a lot
of people probably have seen the videoof Michael don't call me Mike. Michael
Malone, the head coach of theDenver Nuggets, snapping on a reporter,
dumbfing question, next question, dumbeffing question. Whatever. That's just who

(05:33):
this guy is. But that's notthe dumbest thing you'll hear today, although
it is from Michael Malone, andI'll explain because it has to do with
the next series in the NBA,the Eastern Conference Final, involving your Boston
Celtics. Here they can be.Here's all I know, is it it
is? I'm looking at conference finalmatchups, specifically in the Western Conference,

(05:56):
and I see Minnesota and Dallas, which means I do not see Oklahoma City.
And that's a win. That isa win. Doesn't matter what I
could care. I give a zero, you know what over the rest of
the NBA playoffs who wins and whodoesn't. Don't care at all, have
zero rooting interest, my only rootinginterest. Thank you, Luca, Thank

(06:18):
you, Dallas Mavericks. We appreciateyou. Kyrie and company, we appreciate
you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It's over. Karma
is a bitch and that's what happened. She slapped you right in the face.
Clayton Bennett. You're a number oneseed and you blew it. Your
team blew it. Well. Thatkarma didn't even come in with the fancy

(06:40):
glove either. She just what. No, I'm not sure we'll get to
it today. But Xander Schoffley wonthe PGA Championship yesterday, and no,
everybody's a golf fan here, butjust a cool story there on a lot
of levels, watching a guy.I love watching, you know, great
athletes breakthrough. He's at as faras go off is concerned. A lot

(07:00):
of pressure, fun tournament, Sothat took place this weekend as well,
Maritors, though obviously center stage. We should mention on Wednesday. Seahawks do
start OTA's today whatever phase they're innow, phase two or three. But
we will be out there Wednesday. We get a chance to lay eyes on
the football team on Wednesday. We'llbe out there doing the show Wednesday out
at the Virginia Mason Athletics Centers. We look forward to that marriage. Obviously

(07:24):
center stage. A little bit ofa rough go this weekend. They easily
could have been swept. They camefrom behind a lild dramatic fashion on Saturday,
got the win there yesterday a combinationof things. Base running kind of
changed things in what could have beena decent inning for Seattle with Cal Rawly
getting thrown out of the plate.Kirby, though, we talked and we'll

(07:48):
talk to Nate and Chris about thisa little bit. When you're hitting the
strike zone as often as Kirby isand does, and Gilbert's the same way.
It was kind of what Minnesota didto Logan Gilbert a couple of weeks
ago. Easier said than done. But if you know they're going to be
in the middle of the plate allthe time, right on the plate every
time, I think necessarily the middleteams are coming out aggressive against this team.

(08:11):
Baltimore is a really good offense. They scored some runs against Seattle.
They showed some you know, theyshowed some blemishes out there. They're also
you know, arguably, if Seattle'sa top five or six team in the
American League, that's just fine. You get a lot of time to upgrade
your roster and do some things. But that I think you kind of looked
in the mirror and saw what likea true World Series contender looks like this

(08:33):
weekend, and you're going to seeanother one up close and personal starting tonight
in the New York Yankees. Andso as much as the pitching staff is
great and they are as much asthey can carry you and they do,
offense is still needed for this baseballteam more so than what they're getting at
times. And we saw that againthis weekend against you know, against Baltimore,
so kind of a little bit ofa frustration. We'll break it all

(08:54):
down with the boys coming up atone o'clock today and I the NHL they
shift to a game seven tonight inVancouver. We will touch in on at
the Daily power Play. Take anothername off of the list for the potential
Kracking head coaching job. That lookslike it's finny done, over done,

(09:16):
thanks for coming. So we're notsure who who would be on that next
on the list maybe more and moreit feels like it could be Dan Biolsma.
The fact that Coachella Valley just movedon again in the American Hockey League
playoffs, and it seems like cricketsare chirping over there at the kCi Cracking
Community ice Plex. Well, andyou're connected, so you would be hearing
something. Well, I don't evenknow if I would. I think I

(09:37):
would hear, we'd hear like more. In terms of interviews taking place.
We know they've talked to a fewguys, Tom McClellan and others, but
Craig Beruby in Toronto, Rob BrendaMoore are not going anywhere. Is Bilesma
the guy? Is that what they'rejust waiting for right now? Have they
told him he's got the job? They don't need to interview him too much.
Know he's your American Hockey League coach, right, So we're going there.

(09:58):
Tough break for the Canucks tonight. They lose. It was probably their
third best player behind Quinn Hughes andJT. Miller brought Bester as a blood
clot, so he's out their topgoaltenders out. Now he's got their number
three players out with a blood clot. That's scary stuff, man, especially
for a young guys, and youhave to take it seriously and it can

(10:20):
happen to anybody yet any time.Yeah, that's that's what they said.
So he's out for tonight. Sothey got to fight an uphill battle and
Game sevens are never never kind tothem. Don't riot tonight if you guys
lose, Please Vancouver, don't don'tdo what you do normally, you know't
be better, don't don't pretend tobe Seattle. Just don't ride. That's
all I ask. Don't be anyof those guys along the way. Some

(10:43):
of the little tidbits will hit onthe light on the way as well.
But we got fun show today,a lot of baseball. We'll head to
New York. We'll check in andcatch up with our buddy Nikki, find
out how the Yankees are doing. The Molly Whoppers are standing by. There
was like a thousand texts. Iignored them all on Saturday for you.
Yeah, well it just is it, you know, like it's it's ninety

(11:05):
percent, Well it's about eighty percent. Anders and Crawford, and then I'll
get the occasional chirp from Nathan. And then I didn't say anything. I
was playing golf and you know, dodging rain drops and things like that.
And then and then I finally respondedyesterday or something, and I got chirped

(11:26):
on by those guys. So Idon't know, they've got a lot.
They're pissed off, which is good. I'd rather have them upset and out
at the world than all happy.Yeah, So we'll see what's on their
mind. And they did lose toa good team. They did beat Kansas
City, which is a good team. So I mean, it shouldn't be
too upset, but I kind ofget the feeling those guys arend a little
bit on edge. So we'll checkin with the boys coming up at one

(11:46):
o'clock today. We met him acouple of years ago. It was one
of the great rants, vible rantsand the history of social media, and
we threw him on the radio afew times that year. He ended up
kind of being good karma, goodluck for the Mariners along the way.
Remember, Yeah, he ended upbeing kind of good luck for our local
baseball team. Even though he's aNew Yorker through and through, it's it's

(12:09):
the Mariners are his second favorite. He'll tell us. We'll get a preview
of the New York Yankees. Nickyscar Lodevi will catch up with him coming
up next live from the R andR Foundation Specialist broadcast studio back to Ian
Furnance, powered by Seattle's closest sportsbook, Snow Call Me Casino on Sports

(12:31):
Radio ninety three point three kJ RFM. Today was the first time in
three years my pluck Crutch has beennormal and guess what happens. Devin Cole
gets up six runs in the firstinning to the Seattle mab dies. I

(12:52):
hope Nicky's upset over the next fourdays. I don't know, seems like
some heavy lifting along the way forsure. What I would like is to
make one of those bets like wehave with Sevey. He had to continue
coming on throughout the series. Ohyeah, we I mean, depending on
how things go well, we could. We'll see how it goes today with

(13:13):
Nikki, we haven't. I thinkthe last time we had them monitors during
a Mallywap might have been a playoffMollywap like two years ago, so it's
been a while. We are broadcastinglive from the R and R Foundation Specialist
Studios. R and R Foundation Specialistprovides expert foundational waterproofing solutions throughout Western Washington.
Thanks to Corey Tammy Jordan, theentire team at R and R Foundation

(13:33):
Specialists. Welcome to our team andof course, our show brought to you
by snow Qualmy Casino SnO casino dotcom. Seattle's closest casino is snow Qualm
Casino. Manner. Starting the seriestonight with the Yankees. Just Andrews was
in here a second ago. Andwe'll get Mollywap at one o'clock today too.
Just looking at the numbers, AaronJudge thirteen home runs, thirty two

(13:56):
RBIs and forty eight games. JuanSoto probably arguably the best player in the
American League, maybe as good asthere is in all of baseball. Eleven
home runs, thirty seven RBIs,hitting three to eleven, on base of
four to eleven, slugging at fivepoint fifty two and nine to sixty three
ops. Gian Carlos Stanton he's alsoin double digits with home runs right now,

(14:20):
with eleven on the season, hittingtwo point fifty two to three oh
one, on base percentage eight seventeenops. I mean these guys, Rizzo,
I mean they are an absolute justjuggernaut along the way. So we'll
see how this goes tonight, Marinershaving to have a little bit of a
test for their pitching staff, especiallya couple of young guys who get to

(14:41):
go tonight, Wu and Miller, and then that's I think Castillo goes to
wrap up the series with them.So wait on Nikki to give us a
call. We'll get to him herein a couple of seconds, get a
preview from mister New York himself. We will mollywop at one brought to you
by simply Seattle. And one ofthe things we're going to talk about with
them that I'm looking forward to.And I heard a little bit of a

(15:03):
conversation this morning on the Morning showthat I don't know, and I don't
want to put words in their mouth, but the thought was, or the
question was coming up, at whatpoint do you start to platoon first base
with Raelei and France. We'll talkedabout that with Chris and Nate. The
other thing you got to worry aboutis right field. The defensive liability that

(15:26):
is named Mitch Hanniger has become apretty significant problem. Six worst defensive player
in all of baseball, not sixbest, not top ten best, bottom
ten worst is where he is rightnow, and that is a concern with
a team so relying on a pitchingand pitching staff to have him. You

(15:48):
can only spread guys out so much. Crawford, I haven't seen anything yet
today, nothing yet. A JPshould be back pretty soon. I don't
know. It's I think the otherconversation we'll have is how long until you
start making some moves and upgrading youroffense. How concerned are you about Julio
Rodriguez who's turned into rod carew Andfor you young people out there, that

(16:12):
means is a singles hitter slapping theball around right now. Not enough power,
not enough going on. So there'sa lot, a lot to discuss
with the boys coming up here atone o'clock today. I think the other
thing that with the Mariners on thisroad trip, and we talked about it
before it started. If you canjust survive, I mean honestly, right

(16:33):
now, a split in New Yorkwould be fabulous, and try to go
win a series in Washington. You'rein great shape. Texas is doing you
all the favors in the world. They're three and seven in their last ten.
So you haven't even though scuffled alittle bit this weekend, haven't lost
any ground. Still with a oneand a half game lead in the American
League West. And I think we'vegot Nicky on the phone right now.

(16:55):
I do believe just as linking himup. Yes, no, hey,
Shaky, you just having a conversationwith him, that's what That's what she's
pulling to Kevin Shocky for those ofwhat that means. Kevin Shacky used to
get guests on the phone. I'mtalking to NICKI I know, well,
we're gonna put him on the air. That'd be good. We could do
that too. That was a Shockytrick back in the day, talking to
a guy. Talking to a guy, It's like, yeah, we'll get

(17:18):
him on in a second, ourguest. Anyway, we'll talk about all
that stuff with the boys coming upall what Monday coming up at one o'clock
today as the Mariners get ready tostart the series at the Yankees four o'clock
first pitch later on this afternoon,so ready to rock and roll. I
had to explain to him that hecould not swear. Oh god, he's
done enough. Radio Nikki. Areyou there? NICKI you there? What's

(17:42):
what's up, buddy? How areyou? Hell? I'm good? Long
time? I know. I feelbad. I don't think we even touched
base last year during the season.Man, it was just one of we
had kind of one of those yearshere in Seattle. It was a little
bit of a frustrating year, andyou know, we didn't have as much
fun. But hey, Jesse, you have the sound again for me just
tuning in. We got to goback and play the original sound from NICKI

(18:03):
two years ago, which first putthem on our radar, the Mariner's radar,
the queen Ane Beer Hall radar, and maybe kind of started a sensation
which I'm gonna talk to you aboutbecause you got like a business all kinds
of stuff going on. Here's acouple of years ago. Today was the
first time in three years my pluckcrutch has been normal. And guess what
happens. Derek Cole gets up sixruns in the first inning to the Seattle

(18:26):
Maddis you're too young for that.Yeah, I know you're in too good
a shape for high blood pressure. That debt sooner the ye. Hey,
you don't have any bit thirty threeand fifteen. You're not stressing out this
year, are you, nicky?Ah? No, I'm doing good.
Actually, we're in a good spotright now. Yeah, we're in a
good spot. Hey, before wetalked baseball, and I mentioned this earlier

(18:48):
to our listeners. I said,I don't need to get a beat right
on or anything like that. I'drather get you want to talk about your
New York Yankees and give us arundown on these guys. But before I
do that that, how much didyou life change after that rant on social
media went viral two years ago?Oh my god. So it's honestly crazy
because it changed drastically. So whenI went out there after the video went

(19:12):
viral, I went to Seattle.I was still in the union at the
time, work in construction, andthat kind of showed me to take the
social media serious and it kind ofgave me like the kick in to the
gear that I needed. And fastforward two years later, my brother doing
this full time for about a yearnow. Yeah, so you're you've done.
You're not You're not driving around theconstruction anymore. We don't see in

(19:32):
the yellow vest no more yellow vest. I might have to buy another one,
though, if I still do unioncontent. So to buy another one,
I've got an elect session husband inthe Union, so I can lend
you one. There you go,you can do it. There you go.
Well, what what what what isit like in that sense, just
that that social media world, Likewhat's the biggest challenge? But what's the
best thing about it? That's that'shappened to you? Yeah, I would

(19:56):
say you the best thing is tohave the freedom, you know, every
day of working for ourselves. It'sa blessing and it definitely has its stresses
though obviously the one thing I wouldsay that is probably, you know,
the one thing on that plate Iwould say is having to keep the cab
with the content consistent and to keepthese new ideas flowing and rolling so the
content never gets stale, you know. And that's your twin brother and you

(20:18):
that do it. How is ita collaboration on a daily basis? How
do you do that? What doyou go through? How do you do
that? Yeah, so we havea few ideas, will brainstorm like a
night before or whatever, and we'llwe'll send the time in the day,
but usually it's on the fly,Like I'll be honest with you, like,
we don't have that structure yet,you know, in the day because
a lot of stuff is you takeit day by day because it could be
hot for a few months and thenyou have a week where it cools down,

(20:40):
you know. But for the mostpart, every single day we'll film,
you know, for about an hourand get the ideas out. And
now we're doing a lot of theNew York sports content, so we just
keep trying to like, you know, make everything flow, you know,
and your dad's involved, right,I see your dad, your old man's
on there is like Sunday dinner thebiggest thing in your world. Oh,
I got it. It's the biggestthing. And yeah, one hundred percent,
it's always been that way. That'sjust funny room because it's like my

(21:03):
dad was the sole, one ofthe sole inspirations of my brother and I.
You know how we got aggravated andnamped up in our video, So
it's like we're finally just putting oncamera what he's been doing for years in
a fantastic Yeah, I mean aggravatedand amped up. I've never you know,
it doesn't sound like you at all. It doesn't sound like, Yeah,
you push your dad's buttons. That'swhat I see. I see you

(21:25):
pushing your dad's buttons all the time. The guy's ready to lose. He's
gonna kill you guys one of thesedays. Yeah, you might hit me
with the wooden spoon once or twice. I've been going too crazy sometimes.
Listen, you gotta follow Nicky becauseNicky's Carlotta joining us here on the Beacon
pumping hotline. Every time I lookat those of those videos, I get
hungry, Like it's like eighteen potsof sauce, you know, simmering all
day, four different kinds of pasta, meatballs, everywhere. Like like,

(21:48):
now, let me ask you thisis a weird question, but is is
what we see? What we get? Like if someone walked into your home
with your brother and you and yourdad? Is that is that it?
You just film like one tenth ofit a day? Yeah, that's literally
like basically twenty four seven. Yousee your sid you really get realize that.
But you guys ate dinner at liketwo pm on a Sunday, right,

(22:11):
Yeah, so Sundays we'll usually doa little bit earlier. Yes,
all right, that's that's how youdo it. Yeah, well that's that's
how you got to do it.See my family, my my wife's family
from the South, they do thesame thing, and I'm like, I
can't do that. I got toeat at six or seven otherwise it's it's
just it's no good for me.Uh. Do you have a clothing line?
Is that what I see? Yeah? So my brother and I actually

(22:33):
we dropped our online to merch andwe're doing actually pretty well with it now.
So if who I've listening. Youclick the link in my bio on
my Instagram or TikTok or Twitter toget yourself some Scilata merch, you know,
a merchant. My god, I'msorry. This is just such a
warmth to my heart just from LongIsland. So she's all happy to hear
the accident. So people don't know, just there's no island hate. People

(22:56):
think that like sadn Islanders in LongIslander they hate each other. No,
we do not. We just haveslightly different as I know. Right,
it's just hard. It's just likethey feel like there are world's apart,
even though they're only a few hours. If you drive, you know,
hey drive, hey Nikki. Whathow is it? How have the Yankees,
the Rangers, the Knicks, allthose guys have they embraced you as

(23:18):
well as kind of like you know, mister New York or or is it
more for people outside of the city. That's actually a good question. I
mean, they definitely embraced it.My brother and I we spoke to some
people who run you know, thesocial media, to some of the teams.
But it's not like Seattle, likeSeattle sent me there on Jersey.
They flew me out because I didsomething to say to Seattle and Jamie,

(23:38):
Like, New York is just there'sso much going on that sometimes I feel
like they won't appreciate the content asmuch as they should because just everybody's doing
something here. You know, it'sjust nuts to you. All right?
Are you still a little bit ofa Mariners fan? Are we? Are
we number two in your heart rightnow? Yeah? You're you'll you'll listen
the love you guys showed me.You'll always be number two. I think
you can't say number one because ofmy Hey, hey, and are you

(24:03):
hurt? You're hurting a little bittoday with basketball, aren't you. We
have been hurting a little bit ofOh my god. Yeah, the Knicks
and it was crazy. That wasa sixth series they had. They had
one hell of a brother. Itwas just the injuries kept coming and coming
and they just had it up allthe time. You know, Well,
your hockey team is still okay. You guys should be fine. They're good.
You should be you should be ableto get to the Stalley Cup finals
there, all right? Thirty threeand fifteen New York Yankees first place the

(24:27):
American League East. They're taking onthe Seattle. How do you say it
again, Seattle man. It istoday twenty five in twenty two, first
place in the American League West. But the Yankees where they This is nuts,
nikky. They are plus seventy ninein run differential right now through thirty

(24:48):
three games. What the hell? This is it World Series or bust for
this team or what it has tobe at this point? Because how many
seasons are we going to have?Oh? This is our yeah, this
is out yea that we we disappointedthe playoffs and this run differential almost plus
eighty. I don't know if that'sgoing to carry over all season, but
as of right now, I'll takethat. I'll take that old day.

(25:08):
Who's the best player in baseball rightnow? One Soto or Aaron Judge?
Well they they both happen to playfor the team the Mariners are playing for
the next four days. That's fun, that's great. One. Soo man,

(25:29):
what can Marner fans expect from thisguy? Oh? My god,
just for him to get on baseand to do his shuffle and stand down
the pitcher. The guy just getson base. It's crazy. Well.
And and Aaron Judge, he's onlygot thirteen home runs right now, thirty
two Ribbies, Like, I knowthat those numbers, I mean people look
at don't look at runs bad atin anymore. But Mike like he just

(25:51):
I mean Judge Soto Stanton Rizzo likethat's a that's borderline murderers row, isn't
it? Oh my god? Yeah, it really is. And when they
get hot on this at the sametime, Kris Stanton's been raking too.
He's hot right now. It's likenot fair when they get hot. The
only thing is is you got totake to go with the bed. Then
you'll see a few game stretches wherewe can't even put together two buns.
But that's baseball, you know. Can you guys pitch right now? We

(26:15):
could pitch cold, not even inthe line up. I think we have
the best of you already in theleague if I'm not mistaken, right,
Yeah, yeah, Well this isthis isn't This isn't trending well for our
local baseball team out here. Uh, this is not this is not tending
trending. Well, we just getWe just saw Baltimore. They're they're damn
good too. Man. Have youhave you seen the Oorls? Yeah,
they're in seeing the older prospects likethey finally called up. I'm Anderson,

(26:37):
I think have sixteen home runs already, Avid Rushman as the catch is batt
in like four hundred. They're reallyreally good teams. We were thinking that
we kind of want to make theargument here all the time that that Julio
Rodriguez is like, you know, the superstar up and coming in baseball right
now. But then we go toBaltimore. But we see a guy in
Baltimore that's that's kind of lapped hima little bit least in terms of power
numbers and all of that, right, I mean, it's but base in

(27:00):
a good situation. I mean,you've been a lifelong fan and I just
saw some numbers. I'm gonna touchit on him later. More people have
gone to the ballparks this year acrossMajor League Baseball, like in person than
in a long, long time, like a couple of decades. It feels
like baseball is getting back to abetter spot, doesn't it. Nikki Oh,
I'm glad for you know, toget back to what it was,

(27:21):
you know, because it's honestly oneof the best sports in the world,
if not like the best. Youknow, what happens if the Mariners come
in there and they're pitching staff locksyou guys down. How how big are
you going to be? Huh,I'll tell you why. If there's one
team who's gonna do it and Iwon't get mad. It's the marriage.
How many games are you going toin the series? Oh? I actually,
you know what. That's a goodquestion because I was going to go

(27:42):
tonight, but I have met tofilm something. But I'm trying to go
either today or tomorrow, definitely tryingto get to one. See this guy's
got to film something two years ago. You were two years ago, we're
talking to you. You're you're inyour work truck yelling at people in traffic.
Now now you got to own somethingyou can't. I think you've kind
of lost touch with who you are, Nikki. I think you've kind of

(28:03):
a little bit Hollywood. I thinkyou had a little Hollywood. I think
you lost touch with who and whatyou are. I was gonna go.
I was gonna go to the Bronxand I'm gonna go to a little Yankee
stadium see my two favorite teams. But I gotta quote film something tonight.
I think you Yeah, that soundedso bad right now when you say it
like that. Yeah, I don'tknow. I'm not sure if we know

(28:25):
you anymore. I don't know ifthat's I don't know if that's the case.
Along the way, but yeah,no, Hey, what what do
you remember from coming out here toSeattle? Oh? So I remember.
The weirdest thing was everybody always talksabout Seattle rings. They didn't rain once
when I was there. The weatherwas sunny all day. The seafood was
the freshest seafood as I walked downto the Pike Street market every day.

(28:47):
We were drinking. I think theycalled the neer beers. I think there
were a local. Yeah, youhad a little vitamin R. It's a
little vitamin R. Good for you. Yeah, those all sneak up on
you. But those are good.Well it's been in that yingling or whatever
you guys have back. It's betterthat stuff along the way. Yeah,

(29:08):
Jamie took carry our guys. Ourguys is simply say how they actually sponsor
our segment coming up at the topof the hour today. It's called malliwa
Like this, we do a malliwapMonday. We get two guys that come
on and bitch and complain and getbitter about the Mariners every every week.
That's great. That's what that's that'sthat's amazing. Well, listen, they
were saying a bunch of stuff inthe beginning of the season when the offense

(29:29):
wasn't getting well. They just losttwo to three to Baltimore. So I
think the bitterness will be seeping throughhere in about twenty minutes time. Final
thing, Do I see you doingstuff collaborations with guys from Boston? Yes,
you do. And I'm actually gonnabe out there in a few weeks.
Actually, what is it painful?Like I didn't know, Like,
like just said, Long Island andStaten Island are okay, but Boston and

(29:49):
New York. How does that worksfrom Boston? Are your husbands from Boston?
Yeah, we have a house divided. But I'm a Celtics fan now,
yeah, I'm a Celtics fanner. You got to give something sometimes,
you know, you gotta give alittle something. But I would say,
you know, we met the kidTommy and Chad. Those are the two
boss the content creators we filmed with, and we had a great relationship worker

(30:11):
with them. And it's really funnybecause we get to touch on like the
New York Sports rivalries and the stereotypesand stuff, and we have a great
time filming with them. Actually,we're going to be going to our first
Red Sox game at Fenway. Ibelieve it's June fifteenth, so I'm very
excited for that. Well, hey, Nikki Man, great catching up seriously,
but that that who knew what wouldhappen with like a twenty second rant

(30:34):
from your work truck about the SeattleMariners would turn into a new career,
a fun career. If people don'tfollow you. The Instagram's great between you,
your brother and your dad's it's justit's the most like sometimes when you
say the word stereotype it has avery negative connotation. I think in this
case, the stereotype of a NewYorker is awesome. And you guys,

(30:59):
you guys do it well man,and it's I've I've really liked watching your
success from afar uh since we firstmet with you on the airwaves here,
And hopefully you make it out herethis summer and we can hook up and
I'll I'll buy you one or twoVitamin rs. I might even find you
a better Seattle beer than that.Although Vitamin R radiator is as good as
it comes, man, so Idon't want to stray too far from that.
There's a lot of good beer outhere. I'll give you a parting

(31:21):
gift this. I just got thisrelease from Major League Baseball. Aaron Judge
named American League Player of the Week. Oh there you go there, very
nice, very nice. Well, guys, it was. It was a
pleasure to catch up with you,and I definitely want to make the trip
out there, and this time Iwant to try to bring hopefully my brother
and my father. Oh that'd befun, that'd be fun. Well,

(31:41):
thank you. Yeah, talk toour guy, Kevin Martinez. I know
we loved having you out here,so hopefully they can make it happen again,
and we'll see you down the road. If not, we'll talk to
you. If things go south thisweek one way or the other, we
might touch base later on the weekwith you, all right, Yeah,
let me know I'll be available, all right, all right, Nicky,
take care of that's Nicky Scarlatta. He is a New Yorker threw and through
Yeah, yeah, yeah. TheYankees love it. Great stuff from him.

(32:05):
Player of the week. Huh weird, that's uh, that is this
like eighth Player of the Week.So far this year for Aaron Judge or
just show. I didn't just goback and forth with him and solo every
week. That's probably what it is. I didn't know that there was another
person that could win it. Yeah, by the way, stopped, I
stopped paying attention the the It's acool story though with Nikki, like in
all seriousness, like I'm I'm Ikept in contact with him. We reached

(32:29):
out to him right away when hedid that stuff, got him on the
radio, and I've texted him backand forth a few times last year,
even every couple of months we touchedbase and I'm just thrilled for the guy.
I mean, he's just a workingclass dude busting his butt, funny,
creative and uh, you know what. Social media I'm kind of down
on it times, but it doeswork for certain people in a great way
and been life changing for him aswell. But with one simple rant,

(32:52):
and it had nothing to do youknow, there's no swearing, there's nothing.
It was just it was fantastic. You have they do swear in their
things? Oh yeah, yeah,oh yeah, yeah, no, it
was it was perfect. It wasperfect. I just like that. People
just get to a taste of differentparts of the country by you know,
going on social media, not justhim, but you know, I I

(33:14):
looked at a lot of their contentonce you told me you wanted him on,
and it's hilarious and fun. Yeah, and like you were talking about,
they're just cooking dinner and things likethat, and it's just it's wholesome
in so many ways. It's wholesome. And it's also borderline Springer episode as
well. Sometimes in their house gota title line, you know, we'll
take a break, we'll come back. I was good. I mentioned with

(33:36):
Nikki, the business of baseball isactually really good. Right now, we'll
tell you how good next, livefrom the R and R Foundation, specialists
broadcast studio back to Ian Furnance, powered by Seattle's closest sports book snop called
me Casino. On Sports Radio ninetythree point three kJ R FM, we

(34:05):
are Molly wopping moments from now,we'll be Molly whopping on a Monday thanks
to Nicky Scarlata jumping on with us. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Yankees,
we'll check in like that. Yeah, he's fine, just cool,
cool, just a cool story,I mean, honestly, just a cool
story. Like it's you know, the influencer world, and all those things

(34:30):
an influencer are in our building.O, Nina, She's an influencer,
isn't she? Old Nina Nina fromJU Hang a second, I'm watching you
influence that mic. No, Ican't influence the mic. It just doesn't
like me. The mike and Ido not get along, all right.
I mentioned this earlier. I gottaget to this because I said this with

(34:51):
Nikki. I thought this was acool story, maybe a bigger topic at
some point. But in a worldnow that we live in, with so
much at our finger too, interms of consuming sports, whether it's in
the palm of our hand with aphone, watching on our phone, watching
on our tablet, computers, streaminghome whatever, it's easier than ever.
I know this sounds weird with what'sgoing on when what happened with the Pac

(35:14):
twelve or anything, but it's easiernever to watch almost anything you want,
with any of your teams you want, anytime. And I know I find
myself in this category of not reallywanting to go to games in person as
much as I used to because it'sjust easier to watch stuff at home.
And because of that, you alwaysgonna wonder well, and you know years
ago the NFL you used to havea blackout policy. Your game wasn't sold

(35:37):
out forty eight hours before the game, they'd black it out in your market
and force people to buy tickets togo see them play and all that.
It was never really an issue inSeattle except for a couple of years during
the Ken Baring era because there wasa huge waiting list for the Seahawks season
tickets when they played in the Kingdomeunder Petera and later Chuck Knox. Then
when they moved around and by thenit started. I'm not sure when the

(35:59):
blackout rule went a but it's neverreally an issue for us here, but
it has been an issue for alot of places. But I bring that
up for this. Major League Baseballannounced this weekend that the average attendance over
the past weekend was thirty four fourhundred and sixty five. It was the
best attended weekend before the end ofMay in almost ten well in ten years

(36:21):
since twenty fourteen, when the worldwas very different, how we consume things
was very different. That doesn't includeopening weekend, so just average attendance for
a a group of May games isthirty four four hundred and sixty five their
attendants this year for Major League Baseballis already up. It doesn't sound like
a lot two point one percent, but when you go cumulative and all the

(36:44):
people going to the ballparks across theyou know, the North America, that's
quite a bit. Tuesday and Wednesdayhad the highest totals that they have had
before June first since twenty sixteen, and Thursday Mariners were off that day.
By the way, it was thebest multi game Thursday average since twenty fifteen.

(37:04):
People are going to baseball games moreand more, and it's not just
baseball because at the end of thehockey season this season, the NHL sent
out a big old press release andit's one of those ones that most of
the time media we just kind ofignore it. You kind of pass it
by. But I did read itbecause it caught my attention, and I
you know, there is probably alittle bit of Vegas and Seattle effect to
this, because those those two newteams still sell out every game. Vancouver

(37:29):
doing really well this year in agreat hockey market, selling out every game.
You know, they'd had a fewattendance issues a few years ago,
so that had changed the Canadian markets, you know, Edmonton, Vancouver,
Winnipeg, Toronto, you know, four to the seven all going to the
postseason. So there were some helps. There was some help there. But
the NHL had its best attended seasonin building that they had in a long

(37:52):
time. Those are all really goodsigns. The WNBA, obviously passed,
is on pace to have its bestever seen in terms of attendance. And
whether she's turning the ball over tentimes and struggling or not, it doesn't
matter. Caitlin Clark is helping thatleague rise up. And she's here,
by the way, on Wednesday, they play Wednesday, here does Indiana against
the Seattle Storman who wrap up theirtheir road trip tonight. So people are

(38:15):
going to games, and that didsurprise me, and I guess i'd ask
the question four nine, four orfive one and to tell them U text
line when it's game time. Areyou someone that likes to go to games?
Are you more apt to go togames? Maybe it's the after effects
of the pandemic when we couldn't doanything a couple of years ago. Travel
certainly picked up. Yeah, buteven it's just local. I mean,
like like people locally going to games, like it's like, are you more

(38:37):
apt to go to a game inperson today than you were a couple of
years ago. Maybe it is postpandemic, maybe it's not. I'm just
surprised by that. I'm also enthusedby it because we're in the sports business
and I want people to watch sportsand care about sports. I want people
to go to games. I wantpeople to experience that because that's what we
talk about every day. To seethose numbers for baseball, which we also

(38:59):
have all known that baseball's not Baseball'snot dying, it's not going on,
but it certainly is in America's pasttime and favorite sport like it used to
be. That's the NFL, andit's the NFL, and it's kind of
everybody else. But if baseball's makinga little bit of a pushback, good,
that's good for all of us.Along the way, So interesting numbers

(39:19):
along the way four nine, fourfive one. Are you more apt to
go to a game in person thanyou were the last year? Two three
or would you rather watch it athome? Four nine, four to five
to one? Baseball, especially becausebaseball numbers are up and I know roots
sports numbers for the Mariners were upas well, they're not. They're harder
to read. People have cut thecord, so there's there's a lot of
things to kind of sift through withwhat their TV numbers look like because there's

(39:43):
not as many subscribers anymore. ButI know, and just if you look
at like who has the ability towatch, more people are watching. Yeah,
the team being in first place certainlyhelps, no doubt about that.
It does. And I think thatjust because we were forced to not go
to games for a while, itchanged the way people realize they enjoy the
process of consumption. Have said sports, like, for me, I need

(40:06):
play by play and that comes fromdoing the job that I do. Right
when I sit at a football gamein the stands, I lose my mind
because I need to hear everything becauseI'm so used it. For you,
I mean, love all the PAannouncers and everything, but like I just
I'm so used to it. Sobut baseball I can go because it's such

(40:28):
a relaxed broadcast too. Even ifyou're working with a broadcast team, you
can see exactly what's happening, andthe game speaks for itself a little bit
more, at least for me,And I think that during the pandemic.
When we couldn't consume them the waythat we wanted to, we figured out
what's worth going to in person? All right, thoughts there we have the
boys lining up to get in.We'll talk to Chris and Nate and Molly

opening thoughts, go ahead? Ohsure? Oh we were talking about the

(44:37):
Washington Huskies, right, Is thatwhere we were. I'm gonna get to
him in a second. I'm goingto get to him in a second.
All right, let's talk about theMariners last week. So I think we're
kind of getting to the point inthe season where you can, you know,
we can look at the week. It's basically the week that we said
they needed to have, which wasthree and three. It certainly could have
been worse. I don't really feelit was kind of one of those weeks

(44:57):
where it felt like if a threethree is a See it kind of felt
like a C minus a little bit, just because it felt like it could
have been worse than three and three. They didn't really play super great through
that course of seasons, but itdoesn't really matter they were three and three.
More broadly speaking, I'm I'm kindof interested to get the feel of
what this team actually is over almosta third of the season. Now,

(45:19):
Ian we're coming up on the thirdway point of the season, and I
think that's getting to the point where, you know, so many things can
still happen. We've already seen thelast two years, especially the Mariners find
something in around August that they dosomething historic that they've never done before.
But by and large, I thinkfor the second straight season, this is
starting to feel like a team thatwas predicted to be slightly above average,

(45:40):
to be somewhere between eighty four toeighty seven eighty eight win team that's playing
exactly like that now for the firstmonth and a half of the season.
And the thing that's made it veryinteresting, isn't that because that's kind of
boring. Actually, when a teamjust comes down and plays the way we
expected them to the American League Westis what's made this interesting rights the game
changer for this season. The Marinersare not only playing to a record that

(46:04):
we pretty much expected them to have, but they're doing it in the way
that we expected them to do it, with good pitching, below average hitting,
kind of suspect defense, and abullpen that's been injury prone but still
kind of held together pretty well. But the big X factor, and the
thing is going to be so interestingto follow through this week when the Mariners
are playing against the Yankees and thengoing into next week, is that the
Houston Astros remember they're a good baseballteam. And that's been the one thing

(46:28):
that has made this season thus fardifferent and interesting is that the Houston Astros
were seven and nineteen and they're notseven and nineteen anymore, and they're charging
hard. And the Mariners have abig four game series coming up with them
next week, so it's going tostart to get real really quick. So
this is a huge test. TheMariners were pretty obviously not as good as
the Baltimore Orioles. They were neverdesigned to be as good as the Baltimore

(46:51):
Orioles, so that's not a bigsurprise. They're not nearly as good as
the Yankees. Either. They alsoaren't trying to be as good as the
Yankees either, so they can somehowgo two and two against the Yankees.
That's going to be a big winfor them and hopefully get them into a
good series against the Nationals, whothey are designed to be better than.
If just a little bit, allright, a couple of things. We're
gonna circle back and hit on asecond. I check in next with the

(47:12):
man who hosts myle Y also hasLet's see up on his screen today.
Let's see Jessamine, Ian Finness,Nathan and PGA Parole Officer sixty nine.
You're doing a great job, sir, Yeah, well done. Thank you
for your service. We appreciate that. You know. What's funny, it's
been really slow, but business isstarting to pick up a little bit.

(47:34):
It's it's kind of funny, right, all of a sudden, my phone's
starting to ring. I've got acouple of chances. Number One, I
just want to say, posted theshow twice never had an audio issue.
Just keep that in mind for thoseof you who are Posted the show twice
never had an audio. Number two, thanks for the tickets that you made
me work to give away. Bythe way, you go, you go
through all this crap. You giveNathan the super nice seats, you give

(47:55):
me seats, and what do Ihave to do? I have to find
people to go get the seats.Did you find them? I'm working doubly
hard over the last couple of weeks, and I'm kind of annoyed by it.
The burden you have is a heavyone. I understand the cross that
you bear is heavy. I podI'm already heavy enough, and let's just
be honest, I'm already heavy enough. I don't need any burdens adding on

(48:16):
to it. So it's funny thatI was listening to your show because you
forced me to listen to your show, and it what you were talking about.
Glass half empty, glass half full. You can take the glass half
full approach and look at that weekand say, they beat the Kansas City
Royal is a pretty good team, and you know what, you lost to
the Baltimore Orioles. And the BaltimoreOrioles they might be the best team in

(48:37):
baseball, and if not, they'rethe best team in the American League,
or one of the two best teamsin the American League at the very least.
The glass half empty view is that'snot good enough. It's not good
enough that they're not competitive against thevery best team in baseball. It's not
good enough that they looked mismatched againstthe Baltimore Orioles for about twenty four of
twenty seven innings. That doesn't work. That doesn't work for me. It's

(49:00):
not okay that this is an eightysix win team. It's not okay for
me that this team is only infirst place because every pitcher on the Texas
Rangers is dead. It's not okayfor me that this team doesn't look like
it's going to be anything more thanan eighty five to eighty eight win team
and reached that fifty four percent mark. They're right around it again. That's

(49:21):
not okay for me. What happenedin that Baltimore series a race to what
happened in the Kansas City Series, and you're going to need to play well
against the New York Yankees for meto feel confident against that team. Again.
Everything I saw over the weekend suggeststhat you can't compete with the New
York Yanks. Okay, I firstof all, I love that because I
think that all too often with becauseof the lack of success in almost a

(49:44):
half a century. Because of that, I think we settle oftentimes for mediocrity
or slightly above mediocrity. I thinkthat, Chris, I think that's what
you're insinuating here. It's like,oh, hey, you know what,
there a game and a half, you know, in first play game and
a half up in the American LeagueWest, which frankly is a really bad
division. By the way, we'llget to back to Houston a second.

(50:07):
Oakland has realized while the Astros,as Nate said, have realized that they're
the Astros and are playing well andthey're eight and two in their last ten,
they're twenty one and twenty six andthey're climbing out of that hole.
Then the A is also at thesame time realize that who they are.
Oh yes, we're the Oakland A'sone win in their last ten, they've
lost eight straight games. They arenineteen and thirty. Thanks for coming.
And the Angels we don't even haveto discuss because once so Tani left they

(50:30):
were just an afterthought. So it'sa three team division in which you're the
king of the dipsticks right now,but that doesn't mean you're going to stay
there. So I like that,But Chris, let me expand on that,
because I like that thought I likethat thought process. And for those
that get upset because oh, youguys are negative in this and that,

(50:50):
why the hell can we demand thatthis team be good and elite and contend
with the best teams in the league. Not to say that they won't by
the end of the year, whichwe'll get to in a bit in terms
of what they need to do toimprove. But if that was a barometer
series, as is this one, coming up with four against the Yankees,
they didn't pass the test. Butwhat would be the most concerning part of
not passing the test? I thinkthe most concerning part of it to me

(51:15):
was watching this starting rotation, LikeBryce Miller and George Kirby both got their
butts kicked by this Baltimore team andconsistently and thoroughly, Like Yes, Miller
settled down after giving up five spotin the first. You give up a
five spot in the first, itdoesn't matter how well you pitch for the
rest of the game. It's abad game. There's no coming back from
that. And George Kirby got shellacked, molly wopped, whatever term you want

(51:37):
to use. He had eight ballsover one hundred miles per hour by the
thirdy. That was not an effectivestart. And the Mariners need their starting
pitching to be elite, and wewere due for some regression. When you
go as many starts as they hadof seven innings or six innings of two
run baseballer were or less, you'regoing to have some regression. But you
also the eye test tells you thatBryce Miller and George Kirby did not have

(52:00):
the stuff to compete with that team. Luis Castillo six innings of two were
in baseball. The result was nice, there were some struggles in that game
as well. This starting pitching hasto be elite. The offense wasn't great,
of course it wasn't. The bullpenscares the ever loving you know what
out of me, But that's startingpitching I expect to be elite. For
the last week and a half,it really hasn't looked elite to me.

(52:23):
Playing a great team, really goodteam, second best team in the American
League arguably. I mean Cleveland's rightup there as well at thirty and seventeen.
But just with what Baltimore is,Nathan Bishop is, do you share
those same concerns. What were thered flags for you? I did not
know we were going to be doingthis today. I would have stretched and
warmed up a lot more before Icame on here if I know we were

(52:43):
going to be throwing down like thison the team today. But I absolutely
feel the way that Chris feels,as nobody will be surprised. The team's
in first place, but they're notvery fun to watch because they don't feel
like they're particularly good whenever they runinto a particularly good baseball team. I
just am having a hard time gettingupset about it because I don't think the

(53:04):
people that built this team are particularlyupset about it, and I don't think
that the people that are in chargeof this organization particularly are upset about how
it looks. They don't care.Man, So like you're asking me to
get upset about the fact that thisteam can't play with the best in the
league. One of the Seattle Marinersgoing to ever play with the best teams
in the league and be right upthere with them. That would have to
take so much intent, purpose andeffort, and year after year commitment to

(53:29):
being one of the best. That'show you get to be the best,
and The Mariners have never tried todo that, so why would they be
among the best? You almost I'mdead serious when I say you sound beaten
down. I think that I'm pastthat. Ian. I think something inside
of me snapped during that press conferencelast after last season that we've talked ad
nauseam about. I'm just floating atthis point. I'm just existing without any

(53:51):
sort of sensory impact on my soul, Like I just kind of exist in
a zend state. Now. I'vebeen to two baseball games this year.
The Mariners have been outscored eight teamto two. I think in those two
games they've gone zero and two.I've had a lovely time at both games
because I don't feel anything, because, look, I want them to win.
I want them to win the WorldSeries. My kid went to school

(54:14):
today dressed up in my nineteen ninetyfive Seattle Mariners win breaker that now fits
him and no longer fits me.I want that for him, very very
bad. It could happen if theysomehow win a really bad American League West.
But what about this team tells youthat they're going to ever be a
team? I you know what? You know? It's interesting just to do
this really quick. I've spending theday listening to Atlanta Braves fans can plain

(54:37):
all day because they're they're struggling anda lot of their players are having bad
seasons, and Spencer Strider, who'sarguably the best pitcher in the National League,
is out all season. They losttoday to drop to twenty six and
seventeen. That's what happens when youbuild a great team that struggles. You
struggle to twenty six and seventeen. You don't fart around at twenty five and

(54:57):
twenty two. You don't screw aroundto a six and ten start for the
million the year in a row.So I don't know, man, Like,
that's a lot more negative than Iexpected to be today, But I
don't feel upset about this team. They are who they were built to be.
Did you need a jail sell tostretch in before the show? Like,
that's exactly the old And now Ihear I am firing sixty six right
out of the pen. That's whyI planning on doing that. You know,

(55:22):
dray is as the day is kidsafCounty jail, just go ahead and
get a stretch in before you comeon a show. Very well, that's
for sure. Yeah, exactly.I'm assuming they do a number that that
Chris had jumped out. I don'teven and we've talked about it before,
but I think it bears mentioning again. We spent a segment two weeks ago,
I guess it was with our buddyJoe Shean kind of talking about the

(55:43):
same thing the three of us havetalked about before, like what numbers you
really look at offensively? You know, like what are the numbers because there's
so many numbers out there, andthere's underlying numbers or analytical numbers, and
then there's the basic you know baseballthat you want when you watch a game
on Root Sports and batting average, home run RBI boom. That's it.
What numbers are important from a teamstandpoint, Chris is run differential and important

(56:05):
number at all and all Just forcontext, Seattle's in first place in the
American League West. Their run differentialis now plus one. Texas is in
second. They're run differentials plus six. The Yankees, who they're playing tonight.
Through thirty three games, have arun differential of plus seventy nine.
The Orioles are plus fifty eight. The Red Sox are the fourth place team

(56:29):
in the Al East, they areplus twenty eight, the aforementioned Atlanta Braves
plus thirty seven. Philadelphia is pluseighty. Does it matter, Yeah,
it absolutely matters. Now we're earlyenough that if you get your clock cleaned
a couple of times, you losea sixteen to one, you lose a
fourteen to nothing, it can reallyhurt that number, and vice versa two

(56:51):
you get one eighteen to three win, it can change that number. But
it does matter. Like historically, the teams that have the better run differentials
do better, not only in theregular season, but typically do better in
the postseason. One way that youcan dilute that a little bit is if
you have a great bullpen, ifyou are basically much more likely to win
those coin flop one run games becauseyour bullpen's going to shut people down from

(57:15):
the six to the ninth inning, then that run differential doesn't matter. Do
you think the Seattle Mariner bullpen isgoing to shut teams down right now?
Based on how things are looking rightnow, without Matt Brash, without Greg
Gary Santos, without a Justin topadthat you had last year, It's hard
for me to imagine. But yeah, long story, short run differential.
There is a history that tells youthat teams that perform well in that category

(57:39):
generally not only win a lot ofbaseball games, but they generally do pretty
well in October slash November now aswell. There's a number of time.

com. Nathan just kind of basingall that Seattle is a middle of the
road team, slightly above average teamas it stands right now. Nate,
Yeah, I think so. Andyou know, it's hard to have this
conversation because the twenty twenty one Marinersare so fresh in everyone's mind still.
And just to the reminder, thatteam won ninety games with a negative fifty

(58:21):
one run differential. That's not supposedto work that way. That's a once
in a generation, probably multi generationkind of outcome for there. Generally speaking,
baseball runs and runs scored happened atrandom times. So what you want
to be is the team that scoresa lot of runs and doesn't give up
very many. And that's why welike, in a broad context, a
broad brush to just have the higherthe run differential, generally speaking, the

(58:45):
better team that you are. Now, I to Chris's point, the Marinaders
have been running a good bullpen forthe last three years. They are not
they are If Andres Munoz keeps gettingfive six outs every single game, their
bullpen is fine. I don't thinkthey're going to want to try to do
that for a in sixty two gameschedules, so they're already having to redline
him and that's a really bad signin mid May. So yeah, they're

(59:07):
a mediocre team. One thing thatI think is interesting and one thing that
I think is worth noting, andwe were talking about the rotation needing to
be elite, I would keep aneye on those home and road splits both.
We talk about it a lot offensivelyfor the Marys. It's very clearly
something that affects their hitters. Lookat it in the inverse for the pitching.
The ops for the pitchers is aboutone hundred and forty points higher on

(59:27):
the road than it is at home. They've allowed nineteen fewer runs in home
games and they have on the road, and they've played three more games at
home than the road. So we'dlove to call this team elite with their
pitching, and they probably are. They're probably really, really good. But
it's a different ballgame when we're playingon the road. And if I understand
correctly, the New York Yankees YankeeStadium is a bit of a hitters ballpark

(59:50):
with their two hundred and thirty fivefoot right field porch, so playbill be
interesting to see what happens. Soa whiffle ball in your backyard out there,
Chris. They also have a newhitter named Wan Soto, who I
think they got because they traded playersfor him. I don't check. That's
allowed for everybody to do. Somebodysays I heard he's good, like really
good. I'm not sure we'll seetonight. It's my Marriager seat of right
field, so it's not a bigdeal, Chris, real quick, Kirby

(01:00:15):
concern at all. There's been acouple of these starts where, you know,
and I heard our morning guys todaytalking about a little bit when you're
throwing strikes as aggressively as he does, teams are sitting on those things.
I don't know how you counter that. I mean, he's a great pitcher,
but he what makes him great iswhat also got him bang ground a
little bit, right, Yeah,And I mean, I've talked about this
ad nauseum, but there is adifference between commanding control. Control is throwing

(01:00:37):
the ball into the strike zone.Command is throwing quality strikes where you actually
want those pitches to be located. And I don't think Kirby wanted to be
middle middle against Baltimore, and hewas middle middle against Baltimore an awful lot
that he just doesn't quite have thesecondary stuff unless he has on the twenty
eighty scale seventy great command, He'sat risk of having a pretty bad time

(01:00:59):
and pretty bad time against Baltimore, and he had a pretty bad time against
Minnesota. Now in between, hehad a good, good old time against
Kansas City seven innings of shutout baseball, and he struck out six against one
of the toughest lineups to strike out. So I don't want to go too
crazy about it, but I'm justsaying that there are still steps that George
Kirby has to take, which isnot surprising for a twenty six year old.

(01:01:21):
There are still steps that George Kirbyhas to take in order to reach
that upper echelon top of the rotationarm. He's an awfully good number two
starter. He might be the Marinersnumber three starter, which is a heck
of a lot of fun. Butthere are steps that George Kirby has to
take to become an ace and thosesteps are better secondary stuff, more consistent
secondary stuff, and a little bitbetter command on a more consistent basis.
What would a week of molliwah bewithout discussing Julio Rodriguez, also without discussing

(01:01:47):
right field? And should we seea platoon at first base? Hm?
Hm, that's you know what theycall that in the business, Crawford,
That's a tease. That's a professionaltease offrofessional radio. Ts. You just
heard there, sir, that's whatthat was. I don't know what,
I don't know what. I don'tknow about this audio issue you referred to

just guarantee that. No. Ilove you Crawford. Yeah, whose fault
was it? Chris? We'll talkabout it during the commercial break if you

(01:03:15):
gentlemen, Nathan Bishop, Chris Crawfordhere, let me start first with
Julio. He's always a fun conversationto have, and I would say almost
in some ways somewhat polarizing as well. You know, we were when we
had our buddy Nicki Scarlata on earlier. We were talking about the some of
the numbers that the Yankees hitters havehit put up this season. Julio doesn't

(01:03:38):
have to. I don't know whathe has to hit. He doesn't have
to hit forty home runs, butboys, he sits there at two home
runs after forty seven games. Aslugging percentage Chris of three point thirty three
I joked earlier and obviously unfair andmaybe too much, but he's our leading
hitter average wise, he's hitting twoseventy four. So that's a good thing.

(01:04:00):
But just like singles, and Imean he's Rod carew imagine that,
like we would be upset about RodKaru. No, it's it's a good
reference. And like it's more likehow Morris. If you guys remember How
Morris back in the old Cincinnati days, the guy who would hit three point
thirty with like a three nineties sluggingpercentage. But I do I've seen a

(01:04:25):
lot of flashes of good and hewas really good in that Baltimore series.
He went five for thirteen. Hecame up with a really big hit in
the seventh inning to keep them alive, to make that game to five to
three. His expected slugging percentage continuesto be on the rise. It's at
four oh eight expected batting average oftwo seventy six. Now it's close to
the eightieth percentile. On top ofthe good defense that he's playing, the
base running still, the gufas arethey're not great. There are too many

(01:04:49):
snaffoos is a word that I actuallylike to use there, But I honestly
think Julio Rodriguez has played at apretty darn good level over these last couple
of weeks, and the ball willjump over the thing. We will see
Julio Rodriguez start putting that ball overthe fence. But it is frustrating to
see just those two bombs this far. Okay, Nate, like take over
the fence away and he is hittingthe ball hard. I think Chris talked

(01:05:12):
about that quite a bit last week. We spent some time, you know,
in terms of his you know whatthe ball's coming off at. But
man, it just it feels likethey need maybe Okay, I'll ask it
this way. Am I being unfairNathan to say that we need more from
Julio? No? No, absolutelynot. That's different than saying that Julio

(01:05:32):
is letting down the team, thatJulio is overpaid, that Julio is a
prima donna, that Julio is stealingmoney or something to that effect. All
of those statements I would have anissue with, but saying that the Renders
need Julio Rodriguez to hit more thanhe's hit absolutely fair. Also, if
we're doing fun comps, I'll justthrow out that Julio's current triple slash line
looks a lot like two thousand andeight Jeremy Reid, so you old timers

(01:05:55):
will appreciate that one. I think. I think I just threw up in
my mouth, like I just want. And then if we want to have
a more realistic but equally kind oflike doom filling one, Julio's age twenty
three season right now is going alot like Jason Hayward's age twenty three season,
and they're at age twenty one andtwenty two seasons. We're not dissimilar
too. So if you want tohave like a worst case career track for

(01:06:15):
Julio to look for, it'd besomething like Jason Hayward. I think he's
going to be a lot better ballplayerthan Jason Hayward, who's had a perfectly
fine career. But yeah, heneeds to hit better. I think something
people need to remember. I justpulled it up again. I think he's
hitting I looked it up earlier.Right now he's hitting two seventy four with
a three twenty two on base anda three thirty three slugging, which I
can't say without laughing. That's afterforty seven games. Last year, after

(01:06:36):
forty seven games, he was hittingtwo twenty two, he had an on
base percentage of two ninety four, and he was slugging three ninety two.
So is that better or worse?I mean, kind of different flavors of
disappointing and suck itis. To beperfectly honest with you, I think what
we're seeing is this is just aguy who, to this point, three
years into his career, starts slow. Some players start slow well, and

(01:06:59):
he starts slow in their still sittingthere three games above five hundred. So
I guess that's the silver lining inthat regard. Chris, would we see
a platoon at first base? Wouldthat make sense? France Raley? Well,
here's one thing for sure. LukeRayley needs to be in the lineup
every day daily. Rayley has tobe a thing, because he has been
as good as any hitter on theSeattle Mariners, particularly in the month of

(01:07:24):
May. He got a little luckywith his three hits yesterday. I think
the total exit velocity on those wasabout negative six. But it worked out
and he has been able to putthe ball in play and good things have
happened. But you absolutely have tostart looking at a platoon there, like
you have to figure out something tofigure out at first base at least,
because ty France just ain't it.It's not it. This is a large

(01:07:45):
sample size now with ty Franz notbeing good enough by f war, he
is the ninth worst player in baseballright now of qualified players. Your first
baseman is the ninth worst qualified player. And that's just not good enough.
It's not good enough. What Youdon't have a deep enough lineup to justify
having a below average defender and oneof the slowest base runners in baseball and

(01:08:08):
he doesn't hit for power at firstbase. I don't know if the platoon
is the answer, but replacing tyFrance has to be a priority for Jerry
to Potto and Justin Hollinger right now. It has to be. I see
you shaking your head, Nathan. It just sucks so bad. Like,
I know, we're on live radio, and ty France is an awesome guy,
Like it's one of the busiest guysin the Mariners to root for,
and he was an All star Ithink in twenty twenty two, just overcome.

(01:08:30):
He and his wife just started theirfamily after some struggles that they've had
that they've been really upfront with.It just sucks, man, it sucks
having to be on here and saythat that's not good enough. But Chris
is absolutely correct. And it's beentwo years now, it's been since the
middle of twenty twenty two that he'sbeen a below average player, and it's
just really unfortunate. And the thingthat I that I'm shaking my head with
you, and it's two part. It's one. It's ridiculous that this was

(01:08:51):
the plan coming into this year aftera year and a half of ty France
not performing well and then sending himoff to some other third party hitting web,
third party hitting site. Because itfor JP Crawford in twenty twenty three,
so sure it'll work for ty France. That's not how this stuff works.
And it's also frustrating because we're havingthis conversation about should a platoon be

(01:09:11):
having at first base when we couldbe having this conversation about like five positions
in the lineup right now, rightSo it's just it's just giving me a
headache just even thinking. I didthis with Gary Hill on Friday, and
I'm curious for both of you guys. Chris, I'll throw it to you
first. I am curs like, what Crawford comes back healthy or ready to
go? And so what does yourlet's say he's back. We know Rojas

(01:09:32):
is kind of taking a little stepback, but we's still been there for
you. What does your ideal lineuplook like? Offensively slash defensively like your
best? What is what is thebest lineup the Mariners should and could throw
out there with the current roster thatthey have. Correct, Yeah, I
don't. Let's let's assume they're nottrading for Juan Soto today. Okay,

(01:09:54):
that's not legal. My heart alittle bit, but that's okay. So
I would probably say that you're bestlineup right now would be an outfield of
Railey, Julio Annager third base,Roja shortstop, Crawford, second base,
Polanco, first base, Canzone andthen catcher cal Rally and then designated hitter

(01:10:18):
Mitch Garver. That's what I woulddo. I really, as frustrated as
I get with Dom Canzone, Ithink he is a much better offensive player
than the Typrans. Right now,Nathan, what do you think? I
dissent because there are four if youdo a minimum of eighty played appearances in
twenty twenty four, there are fourplayers who have minimum eighty played appearances while

(01:10:41):
playing shortstop that have slugged five hundredor more and the Seattle Mariners have one
of them. And his name isDylan Moore. He's been playing out of
his mind since he took over forJP Crawford and J P. Crow Could
him in right field? Yes,that's exactly what I was gonna say.
I would put Ylan Moore in rightfield. And that's the Mitch Tanner conversation
is exactly the Typehans come versation. So I'm not going to repeat it all
from here. It sucks really badhaving to say that mich Haniger shouldn't be

(01:11:04):
playing, but Dylan Moore should beplaying baseball every day for this team or
one of the best teams in baseball. No, probably not, but that's
not what we're talking about. We'retalking about the twenty twenty four Seattle Mariners,
and he should be playing every singleday. He's a good use football
player and he's really saved their buttswith JP Crawford on the bench. He
has played great baseball's And I'll behonest with you, that's what I was

(01:11:26):
kind of getting at is I wantedto see if the Dylan Moore conversation would
come into play. I mean Iput him at first too. Yeah,
record, I think we're ty.Yeah. Who did I bring this up
with? Either Alas, Gary Hillor Joe Sheen? Maybe was Joe Shean
last week? It's like, well, when you get utility next to your
name, you know, utility playernext to your name, and you kind
of get that Moniker, that's kindof it lives with you forever. He
brought up Chris Taylor, you know, who was able to shake that right,

(01:11:48):
became a really productive everyday player andyou know after he left here.
But Chris Taylor, who kind ofgot rid of that. But it's a
hard it's a hard stereotype or stigmaChris to get rid of. But Dylan
Moore's played better than that. Yeah, he has no question about it.
His approach has been good the powerhas been legit. I still have some
question marks about whether or not hecan hit secondary offerings enough to be a

(01:12:13):
true everyday player. But and theother thing is I value the fact that
Dylan Moore can come off the benchas a pinch runner for these unbelievably slow
options like watching as much as Ilove Big Dumper, as much as Mitch
Haniger has been a quality Mariner,Mitch Garver, all these guys, they
have some of the slowest dudes inbaseball, and having the ability to be
come off the bench for those guysor to be a weapon as a you

(01:12:34):
bring a lefty in, here comesDylan Moore. He has a chance to
do some damage. There is somevalue there, But there's definitely this can
be the Mariner's version of Benzovers.Everybody's looking for the next Benz Overs,
the guy who can play all overthe place. And while Dylan Moore isn't
a good enough defensive player to bea starting shortstop or a starting second basement,
in my opinion, he's fine enoughin the corners, especially when you

(01:12:55):
have Julio Rodriguez covering left center andright field. So dang well that I'm
fine with him my starting right fielder, and he's just a better bait play
baseball player than is right now.All right, mas have one of the
shining exemplars of the utility role. The best teaman in Mariner history had Mark
mcklmore field all over the field beinga great baseball player. I mean,
you can absolutely be a guy whoplays every day, just at a different

(01:13:15):
position. We like to call himSeattle's favorite Macklimore Mark along the way.
I'll leave it at that. Thesedays, well yeah, maybe sometimes don't
say what you're thinking. Okay, let's start, Nathan. I'd be a
first for me. Man Justice Basemansaid, that was pretty awesome. That

(01:13:36):
was really good. Okay, Uh, Nathan. Some final comments of the
week. It had four with theYankees and then too the Nation's Capital.
Yeah. I think this is ahuge week for the reasons that I talked
about earlier in the show. They'vegot a rapidly recovering Houston Astro is ready
to go next week, and whatcould be legitimately a battle for first place.

(01:13:58):
Uh if both trends hold for anotherweek. Of where the way they're
playing, the way the Mariners areplaying, I think them's got to figure
out a way to go four andthree this week. They got to figure
out how to split with the Yankeesand then take that series from Washington.
Washington kind of like Oakland was untilthey remember that they're Oakland, not really
as bad as they were last year. Kind of a of a punchy little
team ready to do some damage. So this is a brutal world trip,

(01:14:19):
and it'll be nice to get toWashington and get that Yank Really this Yankee
series, you guys, it's justabout not getting crushed. They need to
not get molly wop hashtag TM trademarksend checks to Chris in New York because
it could really easily happen. SoI think they got to go four and
three though, and we can findyou where. Sure you can find me

(01:14:41):
on the Future of Unlimited Engagement Twitterslash x at Nathan Underscore h underscore B.
By the way, they just switchit to x dot com on Friday,
I think Friday morning. Yeah, flipped over. It's been terrible,
Chris Crawford. To get to fouragainst the Yankees, three against the Nationals.
What has to happen this week?I think they just have to look
like a good team. Results forthe Yankees. I'd love to see a
series win. I'd love to seea split. You know, it'd be

(01:15:04):
a disaster ish if they get swept. But if they're one in three and
they are in all of these games, I'm gonna take it. I'm going
to take it because the schedule getsa lot less difficult. As much as
I just complained about how this isnot good enough, it is what it
is. We are where we are. So as long as the Seattle Mariners
looks like they can compete with theNew York Yankees and then win a series

(01:15:25):
against a not very good Washington Nationalteams, however, go get Hunter Harvey
immediately after the series, Jerry Depoto. That's the guy I won on the
Seattle Mariners more than any other playerright now, Hunter Harvey, go google
him, guys. He's really reallygood. But it's just about looking like
a competent baseball team. This week. We'll talk about what they need to
add next week. We can findyou mile y YouTube after every game.
Correct, yep. Unfortunately, youcan find me there after every single game.

(01:15:49):
Forty two seconds. Nope, Nope, not gonna do it. Nope,
Nope, not going to do it. Nathan did you. I just
wanted to say that if I couldadd any player, I would add Shoho
Tani. But I guess we justhave differ tellent evaluation methods. So that's
fine. Aut I'm concerned about JohnStan's checkbook in twenty sixty eight or whatever.
That's true. Yeah, that's true. We have to look out for

(01:16:13):
I love it. I love itall right. That is Nathan, that
is Chris. Simply Seattle, SimplySandle dot com, molliwap fifteen to check

Next week the boys join us,probably Tuesday, because we have Monday off.
At least I'm not planning it.I don't do we have Monday off,
Jess, Yeah, I here're sodecreet. Okay, good when we

(01:16:36):
have we have a molliwap perhaps ona Tuesday. We're gonna also have a
special announcement about the following Friday. We'll just leave it at that, Okay,

Breaking news for the Mariners moments ago, apparently justin Hollander speaking to the beat
writers in Baltimore, pre Ara,I'm sorry, New York pregame, says
Sam Haggerty tours Achilles over the weekendplaying for Triple A Tacoma. He is
obviously out for the season. Hasbad news for Sam, mostly bad news

(01:17:47):
for the baseball team as well.I know he's in Tacoma right now,
but a key depth piece for Seattle. Uh. We were talking about utility
guys earlier, So bummer for us. Sam that that just sucks. Absolutely,
he sucks. Okay. Manners arein New York. They'll take on
the Yankees tonight. They dropped theirseries with the Orioles over the weekend,
losing yesterday six to three. GeorgeKirby six innings, nine hits, five

(01:18:11):
earned runs, struck out three aswell, storm over the Mystics yesterday eighty
four to seventy five, their firstwin of the season. Back at it
tonight, also in New York againstthe Liberty and Brianna Stewart. The game
starts at four o'clock as well.Sounders and white Caps on Saturday, one
to one, Dry, one onedry. I should say Jordan Morris got
the goal for Seattle. Seattle takeson Phoenix Rising FC on Wednesday. US

second Cannuckstion oiler tonight two Game seven'sYesterday in the NBA Playoffs, the Visitors

but he had never won a majortournament title until yesterday, sinking a
six and a half foot putt onthe seventy second and final hole to clinch
the victory. Let's move in thetwo o'clock hour live from the R and

Well, that just sucks for SamHaggerty and for the Mariners, but mostly

(01:19:40):
for the young man. That's justthat those are bad those that's no good
man, especially for a guy whowas His game is built on speed,
running the basis, late game, defensive replacement, all that kind of stuff.
And when he was up this year, he didn't do anything offensively.
But he's a guy that just twoyears ago, when this team was a
playoff team, was a key partof what they were doing and kind of
had the feeling at some point hewas going to be a factor this year.

(01:20:01):
So Sam Haggerty is out for theseason with a torn achilles suffered in
Tacoma the other night. Welcome intothe show, so don't call me casino
as our presenting sponsor SnO casino dotcom. He interronesced with you, just
as in the other room. Anderswas doing the earlier show today from ten
until noon, so he's not withus today. I'm not sure. I

(01:20:23):
think Greg's off again tomorrow, soprobably see Andrews back here on Wednesday.
Get the band back together four nine, four or five. One is to
tell them were new text line. When it's game time, you can fire
off your thoughts, questions, commentsand concerns we had we told you earlier.
Is a good story about Major LeagueBaseball had their best weekend in a
decade. More people are going tobaseball games in person this year than ever
before. More people attended NHL gamesthis season and ever before. So are

(01:20:47):
you starting to kind of get backin the groove of wanting to go to
games in person? Get some thoughtson that as well. So much talk
about TV contracts these days kind offorget you know what, Sometimes it's fun
to go to the ballpark or therink, the arena, the stadium.
We'll get to that a little bitlater on. I didn't get much into
the the Daily power Play. Igot a couple things I want to hit
on real quick, and then we'regonna get to the dumbest thing you heard

(01:21:10):
today. This will be the dumbestthing you've heard today. You probably didn't
even hear it yesterday because the guyyou're gonna hear from had kind of a
viral comment. But that's not whatwe're gonna play for you. We're gonna
actually play something completely different from don'tcall me Mike, Michael Malone, the
head coach of the head coach ofthe Denver Nuggets. Okay, crazy tonight

(01:21:31):
Game seven Stanley Cup Playoffs. Nothinglike a Game seven in the Stanley Cup
Playoffs. And honest to goodness,I hear people kind of mocking that all
the time, and ticket it's true. Watch tonight. I'm gonna tell you
again. If you have Exfinity orthe ability to watch it on CBC.
Okay, if you have Exfinity cable, it's channel six nineteen. If you

(01:21:54):
have the ability to do that,do so. It will especially tune in
early. I think it's a sixo'clock, six o'clock drop of the pot.
Tune in early at five point thirtyfor their pregame. You just you're
gonna get a vibe and a feelfor hockey like it should be. They
just do such an incredible job ofgetting your revd up, pregame video,

(01:22:15):
the whole. I mean, it'sjust it's sensational. But what's wild is
it's the national sport in Canada. This will be the first time that two
Canadian teams have played in a Gameseven without the pandemic. There was a
bubble game with a couple hundred firstresponders in there. This is the first
Game seven that really matters with fansin the stands since two thousand and four,

(01:22:42):
Vancouver and Calgary and Toronto and Ottawaplayed on consecutive nights in the first
round. Like two Canadian teams playingin a Game seven, it just doesn't
happen. If you're a casual hockeyfan, make time to watch this game
tonight. You're gonna feel an atmosphere, in a vibe that is hard to
described. We had a taste ofit last year here in Seattle at Climate

(01:23:03):
Page Pledge with the two the firsttwo playoff series with Colorado in Dallas.
But we've never had a Game sevenhere, obviously because Seattle was the lower
seat in both those games. Eventhough the both series went to the seventh
game they played in Denver. InDallas, Game seven just feels different.
Every shot, every save, everypenalty, every power play, every scoring

(01:23:25):
opera time, it's it is justinsane. You know, we had a
couple good, decent games yesterday inthe NBA. It's just different. And
you know, like they Barkley talkedabout it last night. How you know,
people talk about the NBA not beingable to you know, you don't
have to watch the final two minutes, and games aren't decide till the final
two minutes, as he pointed out, you know that game, the second

(01:23:45):
game yesterday was aside in the thirdquarter more than likely. I mean,
it was a twenty point lead andthen they just came flying back, did
the Minnesota timber Wolves, you know, and there was nearly no drama at
the end. Tonight there's drama startto finish. Just hockey is a different
sport. It's not for everybody.I understand that. But if you're just
kind of a casual fan, watchtonight. The Canucks. Actually this will

(01:24:06):
be their seventh consecutive game seven they'veplayed at home, so this is so
they this will be the last sixtonight will be seven times that Canucks that
had of Game seven, they've playedat home. They're only three and three
in those games. So and they'replaying without Brockbaster, who's the leading goal
scorer tonight. He's got a blockblood, so anything could happen. I

(01:24:29):
just I can't wait. Man,I'm excited. I just I I think
the stand and then you know theNBA Playoffs, which are going to get
to in a second. I mean, they're they're they're exciting in a little
bit of a different way. Andyou know, I guess would be the
best way to put it. Butyou know, and there's drama, There's
no doubt there's drama. But butyeah, it's it's quite a bit different.
Okay, I gotta get to this. The dumbest thing you'll ever hear

(01:24:49):
in just a second. First ofall, shout out, thank you,
tip of the cap to the friendsof Dallas Mavericks. I was listening to
the Morning Show today driving driving inand Shock understands it. I don't think
Ashley does. I almost texted her, but I just I didn't care that
much. I guess, but Iyou know, Chuck brought up the point
today he thinks the NBA is goingto be back here in the next two

(01:25:10):
years. Twenty twenty six. Ithink he's a year early. But he's
right, it's coming back. Weall know it's coming back. It's just
a matter of when it is.Got twenty twenty six would be awesome.
I still think it's twenty twenty sevenfrom what I understand, But if it's,
it's going to come back. ButI brought this up last week,
and Chuck brought it back up againand reference our conversation on this show,
and he's right what I said lastweek. But we have just a short

(01:25:35):
amount of time this year and probablyone or two more years in which we
don't have an NBA team. Soif Oklahoma City is taking a playoff run,
it makes it that much more difficultto stomach because we're going to have
to be force fed stuff like, well, the last time they were in
the conference finals, or this isthe fifth time they've been in the conference

(01:25:57):
finals, and last time they werein this and this, and you know,
and they'll include the Sonics conversation. They're not the Sonics, They're the
dust Bowlers. That's who they are. That's who they're always going to be
they are not us, but thatwould be brought up. I root against
that team with every fiber of mybeing. When we get our team back
and we have the Sonics back inthe history back, I'll still root.

(01:26:21):
Like Ashley said, I'm with you, I'll still root against Oklahoma City hard
like really not want them ever todo well, want nothing good to happen
for that franchise, But whatever theydo becomes a lot more irrelevant to me,
just me personally. You guys maychange your mind because we'll have our
team back, but until we haveour team back, the history is shared

(01:26:44):
in Oklahoma City. You go toBasketball Reference and be a yearbook and be
a record book. All that it'sstill there together Sonics and Oklahoma City,
which it just it's hard to stomachthat we get it back. It should
all be separated. We get itback. This is that fifteen, eighteen,
twenty year gap, whatever it is. But Oklahoma City, you do
you, We do us, sobig, big thanks and a huge got

(01:27:09):
a huge dose of relief for theOklahoma City Thunder losing because I just they
were the number one seat. Sonot only they lose, they underachieved from
what their regular season record showed, which is even better. Hopefully it's a
miserable, dusty gross day in OklahomaCity. Screwed you? Okay, how
do you really feel though? I'mpetty, I understand it. I am

(01:27:30):
petty. I'm not a nice personwhen it comes to them. I just
never will be it. Everything aboutthat is hard to stomach. It will
be easier to deal with and easierto ignore if we have our own team
and we're not having to look upon a screen and see a graphic that
says so and so did the Youknow, it's the first player in franchise
history to do this since Dale Ellis, or since Xavier McDaniel. No no,

(01:27:55):
no, no, no, no, no no no. Once we
get our team back, hopefully wewant have to look at anymore. Okay,
speaking of the NBA Playoffs, thetwo game sevens yesterday, just is
all excited because Indiana easier out, probably than than New York. Right,
Actually New York would have been easier. Indiana's good. Your Celtics are gonna
that's going to be a struggle.I am not thrilled. I wasn't thrilled

(01:28:15):
about either matchup, but I thinkyou're correct. Celtics are back in the
Eastern Conference Finals. They were therelast year, losing to the Miami Heat
in a seven game series, fourgames to three. That's relevant for this
dumbest thing you're going to hear today. Why again, Miami beat Boston in
a seven game series, But Bostonwas in the Eastern Conference Finals last year.

(01:28:40):
They're back there again. You knowwho's not back there? The defending
champion Denver Nuggets. What drives peoplethe most crazy about the NBA these days
is it, I'll fill in theblank for you. Everyone's got a different
answer, but I think a lotof people would say, how guys take
days off the load management world thatwe live in with the NBA, no

(01:29:03):
one plays eighty two games anymore?Oh yeah, and the fans that paid
good money to see these certain starsand guys maybe don't show up and you're
like, wow, are they gonnaeven play today? And things like that.
Right, I think we could allagree that that that's probably the case
for the Denver Nuggets this season.Their bench got shortened. They didn't have

(01:29:24):
as deep a team as they didlast year when they won it. In
terms of the players this season andguys that played eighty two game schedule.
The Joker played seventy nine games onthe way to an MVP. Two players
Reggie Jackson Christian bron Bit players, both average around just under twenty minutes a

(01:29:45):
game. Both played eighty two.Drops down pretty significantly after that, Michael
Porter played eighty one. I saythat like whereas Jamal Murray was banged up,
only played fifty nine games, etcetera. But the number of games
you played load management Denver had wasn'tas severe as some, but still coming
off an NBA Finals win, there'sprobably a little fatigue kicked in, Ladies

(01:30:09):
and gentlemen, I present to you, Michael alone with the dumbest thing you'll
hear today. The e in Fornestshow probably presents ignorance bad Ed's finest until
Softy hits the air, a specialpart of your day where intelligence takes the
segment off. If it sounds stupid, it probably is. Waities and gentlemen.

(01:30:32):
The dumbest thing you'll hear today Areal no brainer. Mike coach winning
the championship. That's I'm sorry,my fone. This is Michael Malone,
head coach of the Nuggets. Postgame yesterday, coach winning the championship,
you have to have a celln levelof hunker. I can imagine defending a
championship is exhausting. How exhausting hasthe totality of this season been. Yeah,

(01:30:57):
I think it's a really important pointand I would never and those that
know me, I'm not an excusemaker. The better team won, so
I'm taking nothing away from Minnesota. But when you look at the fact that
all the teams that are still playing, we played into June last year a
lot of basketball, and then wehad to play our guys, our mean

(01:31:20):
guys, unlike last season through Gameeighty two to secure the number two seed,
whereas last year we were able torest down the stretch. And I
think the run last season and comingback and the amount of minutes that our
starters had to play, I thinkmentally, emotionally, physically, I think

(01:31:42):
guys are gassed. They're dead tired. They gave me everything I could ever
ask for. And that's why,as much as it hurts, I will
walk out of this building tonight withmy headheld very high because we competed,
we fought, we gave ourselves achance, and we came up short.
And that's going to happen at times. No one ever said this was going
to be easy trying to repeat andlike I said, you know, we

(01:32:04):
just got to improve across the board, get better and h and come back
even stronger. Okay, so helpme out here. You're not going to
make any excuses. But you were. But you were tired. As soon
as you hear the butt, You'relike, there, that's dumb thing number
one. Dumb thing number two iscomplaining about playing into June and being tired

(01:32:28):
defending your championship. This is wherethe NBA just becomes and appears to be
soft. Now it's really hard torepeat. I think we've seen that in
the NHL. We'll talk about thatthe NHL all the time. You tell
me what is a more taxing physicallymore taxing game to play, the NBA

(01:32:48):
or the NHL. The NHL allday and every day if that was.
But I've never heard an NHL teamcomplain about that. Hell, the team
that could have would have been Coloradolast year they got knocked out in the
first round by who this Ol KrakenWhy probably had played to a lot of
hockey the last year. They mighthave been a little bit Gas never complained
about it once, didn't make anexcuse, didn't complain about it, but

(01:33:10):
it took its toll. There's nodoubt I brought up the Boston Celtics for
a reason. They were in theconference finals last year and played seven games
into June before getting knocked out byMiami. They played one more playoff game
a year ago than the Denver Broncosdid last year or Denver Nuggets Denver Nuggets,

(01:33:31):
Denver Nuggets. The Celtics played onemore game than the Nuggets did last
year. They didn't win the title, but they played one more playoff game.
They had a harder road to getto the conference finals. Denver had
a lot easier. That's number one. Celtics are right back in the conference
finals. They're the favorite to getback to the NBA finals. Hell,
they're the favorite to win the NBAby a lot. Not hearing them complain

(01:33:53):
about being fatigued and tired correct. On top of that, this is a
league that, unlike leagues chiefs tryingto make an exception to the rule In
the NFL. Patriots of course aswell, but that was a long gap
in between. We saw how hardit was for Seattle, but they did
get back enough, not for whateverhappened happened there at the end of the

(01:34:15):
game. They do repeat, andthe NBA repeats all the time. Just
in the last twenty years, Lakershave repeated, Miami has repeated, Golden
State has both repeated and also wonthree over the course of a four year
stretch, with another NBA Finals appearancemixed in there. Like Michael Malone,

(01:34:36):
what is wrong with you? Yeah, dude, you guys might be fatigued.
You've got to play the joker fortyeight, forty nine fifty minutes in
a forty eight minute game. Iget that. And the way the league
works with the salary cap and allthat, you had to let some key
guys go in the offseason. Understandthat as well. You had a basically

(01:34:57):
an eight man rotation, especially inthe postseason, more like seven. That's
on you, that's on your GM, that's on the organization. But don't
complain about what do you think thatMichael Jordan ever complained about being tired?
Reminding me of Ellen Iverson right now. I just we're talking about the Lakers
in ninety nine, two thousand, two thousand and one, they won three

(01:35:19):
straight titles. Was Shack tired. No, do you think Shaq and Kobe
were tired? No, hell no, they weren't tired. Well, especially
they live and train for these moments, and it's fine. Yeah, like
you said, it does take itstoll, right, except don't start your
sentence with I'm not an excuse maker. I mean, look at the Bulls.
They won six titles over the courseof eight years. Guess who won

(01:35:44):
in between the Rockets with back toback titles. I was laughing because he
said that last night in Kenny Smith, who the inside of T and T
perhaps going away as a whole differentconversation at some point in just a tragic,
tragic event for NBA and all sportsfans if that happens. Kenny Smith
is the weak link on that panel, and usually you just kind of last

(01:36:06):
night he was talking about something andCharles was looking at Vince Carter like They're
like, what are you saying herethere, Captain obvious? But anyway,
he made a great point yesterday. He's like, we went back to back.
We never even think about fatigue. You're in the playoffs. But I'm
not making excuses here. I'm justnot a Michael Malone fan. I like
the team well, I shouldn't saythat. I like the joker, Jamal

(01:36:29):
Murray's got some swagger. They justgot beat. They just got beat because
at some point you have to havea better supporting cast than just the best
player in the game and a guythat is a streaky shooter in Jamal Murray.
But don't complain about being tired. When the team that's in the Eastern
Conference finals played more playoff games inyou a year ago, don't complain about
being tired. I just visions ofMichael Jordan were just popping through my head,

(01:36:54):
and then I thought, well, what about Kobe Bryant and the Lakers?
What Gary Payton? Well, Imean, what's that guy but Peyton?
But I'm just guys going to thefinals. I mean the Jazz went
back to back finals. I coveredthat those finals the second year when I
was there. You know what, when they got beat, they didn't complain
about being tired. They got youknow what, they said, they said

(01:37:16):
Michael pushed off. He didn't,but that's fine. They said he pushed
off. But they got back toback. This is the problem with today's
NBA. This is like, thisis this is something that just is It's
bothersome it's like, don't you cannotcomplain about being tired. It's a reality
SETH Jarvis for the Carolina Hurricanes justcame out his postgame, his postseason news
conference after they got knocked out bythe Rangers. You know what he said,

(01:37:39):
I played with a torn labrum andsome other he has two surgeries coming
up. Didn't say one word, didn't say one word during the playoffs.
Michael Malone, We're tired, myass, You're tired. Come on,
man, stop being soft. Thisis a soft league, and it's turned
into a soft league. It didn'tused to be that way, but it's
turned into a soft league. Loadmanagement. If you're gonna do load management,

(01:38:01):
do it the right way and loadmanagement so you don't have to complain
about being tired in the playoffs.
