Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now from the Star Rentals Sports Tests jord ninety three
point three KJRFM sports headlines.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
That lines back to my Buddies' Gusy Glass. It is
yet to be confirmed by the team, but Ken Rosenthal
the Athletic is reporting the Mariners are going to fire
Scott's service, replacing with Dan Wilson as the introim manager.
More on that, Mollywop boys standing by, here we go.
Seahawks added rookie linebacker Michael Barrett and it traded with
the Carolina Panthers today in exchange for Seahawk veterans cornerback
(00:28):
Michael Jackson. Not a surprise, what kind of thought this
would happen? They need depth in the linebacking corps and
one thing they have a lot of depth in is cornerback.
Of course, uh Dave Canalis is the new coach there
in Carolina knows Mike Jackson really, really well. Let's just
start the show man. We got a lot to get to.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
It's Monday, then that means one thing. It's time to
mollywap uncensored, unscripted and filled with the passion that all
Mariners fans can relate to, and brought to you by
the company that's all about Seattle's boards, Simply Seattle. Visit
simply Seattle dot com for the best Mariners gear. Now
with the Molliwap Boys, Nathan Bishop from Doman Bedlam and
(01:10):
Chris Crawford with my oh, why here's Ian Fernettes.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Well, we got one of those days and we joke
about it all the time. Somebody losing their jobs, no joke,
We joke about it all the time. That you know what,
we got to stand by and wait and see because
we could have an emergency session of a Malliwap Monday
on any day of the week. That's why the boys
are standing by, and they've been standing by for a
while waiting to see if something happened. This was the
day we all had circled an off day for the Mariners.
(01:37):
Let me say a couple of things. One, it has
not been confirmed, but Ken Rosenthal from The Athletic is
reporting that the Mariners aren't getting rid of and firing
Scott Servis Dan Wilson, the former catcher, sometimes broadcaster, sometimes
instructor in the minor leagues. We'll take over on an
interim basis, And I say that it hasn't been confirmed,
(01:59):
but listen, man and sometimes listen. If the guy that
was at JP Moorrosi, whatever his name is, if they
had Otani signing with the Blue Jays, if it was him,
I think we'd be waiting on this. But Rosenthal was
on the record. We talked about the story yesterday in
the Athletic. He talked to the potal Hell, he's the
only guy to PoTA. We'll talk to reporter Wise. I
kind of think this is a done deal. So we're
(02:20):
gonna take that and assume with it and run with it.
Chris is here, Nate is here. It's a Mollywop Monday
on a Thursday emergency session. Scott Service out as the manager.
We'll do a quick segment here, initial thoughts, emotions, reactions,
and then we will get in a bigger picture in
the next segment. Chris Crawford, I'm gonna go crazy. I'm
gonna start with you today, sir. Your reaction to Scott's
(02:43):
service being out.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Boy, you're really messing with stuff having me go first,
I mean, you're really looking to break up a good thing.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
But this is a new era. It's a new era
of Marion Baseball, sir. That's why we're doing it new era.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
It's a new era. And my first initial thought was
my mom thought Dan Wilson was so hot that I
think she would be extremely happy right now, Like she
was extremely extremely attracted to Dan Wilson and made no
bones about it. I don't know. I mean, look, I
(03:17):
have no issue really with the decision to let Scott's
service go, in part because I think I've made this
clear on previous shows. I think managers are extremely overrated figures.
They're more scapegoats than actual things that do something. You know,
the worst ones can make you worse. The best ones
can kind of just kind of keep you together. My
(03:39):
issue here is the person who's replacing him, and it
feels more like it feels more like a move to
satiate fans than it does to make this baseball team better.
I just get the feeling that they looked at their
rollo decks and said, what is going to make these
weekend crowds still come to the park. Oh, I know,
(04:02):
let's hire former Mariner Hall of Famer, which is still
a joke, by the way, Mariner Hall of Famer Dan
Wilson to manage this team. And I'm not pooh pooing
Dan Wilson. He was one of my favorite players as
a kid, and I you know, he does have some
coaching experience. But this just feels like a move to
tell the fans, hey, there's still reasons to come out.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
To the park.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
This is outside of hiring Griffy or Edgar. This would
be as much of a hey, fans, look, we are
doing something to make this better. This doesn't feel like
a move to win the division. This feels like a
move to win over the fan base.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Nathan Bishop, the floor is yours.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
I think before I start laughing for fifteen straight minutes
and you guys have to cut to commercial, I should
take a.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
Quick second to just acknowledge. Like Chris said, I don't
think we really have a good way of measuring the
value of a manager.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
Team was a long long time ago, you guys, and
that is a huge sample size with which to observe
the day in, day out management of another person, which
you get to do with made baseball managers. I don't
know how you want to mark down Scott Service for
what you want to view his legacy, as he's the
manager that brought the Seattle Marions back to the playoffs.
(05:20):
If you believe that managers have any impact on the
margins whatsoever. He went fifty games five zero games, over
five hundred in one run games which the Seattle Marior
has played an absolute metric you know what load of
and I think that that's a pretty good legacy for
him to leave. So I hope the Scott feels good
(05:40):
about the time that he was here, and I think
that he did a really nice job. I think that
he will have a legacy that will age well over
time with this organization, and I think in many ways
he's probably one of Jerry Depoto's best moves, So good
for him.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
That said everything Chris just said.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
The idea that there are people, there is a demographic
of people that find Dan Wilson attractive is probably actually
a part of the reason why he has been hired
to be the new manager of the Seattle Marriers. And
that pretty much tells you just about all you need
to know about what I think about that as soon
as you get it's so funny because obviously I have
my issues with Jerry Depoto in the front office of
(06:17):
this organization, but the second you get above that level
and you get to the ownership level, these guys have
one move, They have one play, and it's to smash
a big button labeled nineteen ninety five and just hope
that it spits out enough.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Nostalgia to keep people coming out to the ballpark.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
So this is not a shot at Dan Wilson, who
I've heard is an amazingly nice guy and who has
been a good soldier for this organization for years and
was a five major league catcher. But man, how are
we not supposed to be cynical about the Seattle Marriers
when this is the kind of move that they make.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
I submit to you.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
How are we supposed to not just laugh, throw up
our hands and say that nobody will ever learn anything
over there, because nothing will ever change as long as
the people in power can continue to be the people
in power.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Like I said, we're gonna keep this as a we're
gonna break here in a second, we're gonna come back
because there's like these guys just gave me like eighteen
things to discuss. That's weird because that never happens. Actually
it happens every Monday. But which we're gonna get to
in a second. I do think I agree with everything
you guys said. Look service getting fired is a not
a surprise. Last night, I did something I normally don't do,
(07:25):
and I was tweeting or posting on X last night.
What I saw after the game via their flagship television
network that they own was exactly what expected to happen today.
I mean, they telegraphed it like we couldn't get off
the air quick enough, to the point of I'm not
sure if they even got all their sponsored segments in,
(07:46):
although most of us probably make good or trade anyway,
or you know, based on other stuff. So when when
they bailed before Service spoke yesterday on Route in the
postgame show, I knew it was happening, like they like,
get off the air quick, we're done, We're out of here.
And I know he spoke on the flagship radio station
(08:07):
whatever he didn't do TV. If you watch their promos
for TV, the first thing they say, join us for
the postgame show, brought to you by a blank blank
you'll hear from Scott's Service after every game. No last night.
You know why because the deal had been done. It
had been consummated with Dan Wilson. I think it goes
back to what Chuck said earlier this week that didn't
matter if they, you know, won one game, if they
(08:31):
lose two or three, it's probably done. I thought it
was done as of Tuesday night and yesterday meant nothing.
But yesterday sealed the deal. I mean, this isn't something
you do in four hours. Dan Wilson had to be
on standby. He had to be getting ready to go.
He's not just going to be told at ten o'clock
in the morning on a Thursday that you're managing a
team for the rest of the season on a Friday,
especially when you've never had managerial experience at the major
(08:52):
league level or frankly any level. Right he managed. I
remember watching him manage or coach his daughter's freshman high
school softball team pitch team. My girls played against him.
I remember that. That's last I mean, so, and that's
not a shot Dan, it's just it's just my issue
with it is this, guys, and we'll take a quick break.
My biggest issue is the Jerry to Poto part of it.
(09:16):
If you're gonna fire service, and I'm not saying you should,
in fact, you probably if you want to take a
stab at the division. And I'm gonna get back to
that in Nate in a second because I think what
you said probably is right and I might be wrong here,
but if you can take stab of the division, yeah,
you get rid of the manager. You can take a
final Hail Mary and see if something can spark this team.
You've got nothing else to lose. If you don't win it,
(09:36):
you're gonna fire everybody. Anyway. You've got justin Hollander there.
Why does the POTO keep his job?
Speaker 4 (09:43):
Like?
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Why is he keeping his job? That part I don't get.
That is the part I do not understand. If you're
gonna fire service, in my mind, you have to fire
to Poto. In fact, you're far more prepared to finish
off the rest of the season and maybe even go
in the next year in the GM slot, in the
GM chair, then you are in the managerial chair. You
(10:06):
got a guy that's acting in that role already. You
didn't have that paging Manny acta Chris na gront Hello,
it's aye. I'm gonna use a Nate term and we'll
come back and take a break. They're not serious about winning.
They just aren't end the story. They're not. This is
a window dressing move. One hundred percent hot dogs from
(10:28):
having away. We go okay, by the way, voice text
we want to hear Jess, do you want to get
some voice text in today?
Speaker 6 (10:34):
I have some editing to do, but sure.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
iHeartRadio app. Go to the iHeartRadio app and send us
your talkbacks today, red microphone. You have thirty seconds. We
will get those as many as we can sprinkle them
in throughout the day. Text four nine four or five
to one. When we come back, let's touch it on that.
Does this actually? Is this the move that can help
them win? Or are they truly not serious about winning?
(11:00):
Would ACTA or Negron send a better message to the
fan base or is the only part of their fan
base they're concerned with? Is it ninety five hot dogs
from Heaven and bobbleheads. We'll talk about that next nine
three point three KFM.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Live from the R and R Foundation Specialist broadcast studio.
Back to Ian Fernett's Power Advice, Seattle's Closest sportsbook, snowp
call me Casino on Sports Radio ninety three point three
KJR FM.
Speaker 7 (11:33):
Hey guys, it's Blake here. Just just an awful day
for the Mariners, and I'll explain why Dan is going
to do the exact same thing as Scott did. He's
another puppet. He's going to do the exact same thing
Scott did. Jerry is the baseball operations guy. He's the
head of baseball operations. He's the president of Baseball. He
is the top dog. Nothing will change because Jerry wants
(11:55):
it his way. He's fired multiple hitting coaches. Nothing his
nothing has worked. It's Jerry's fault.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
Blake, Thank you more talkbacks to come, send them in
right now, go the iHeartRadio app ninety three point three
KJR FM. Instant reaction we have. Jess is telling me
that we've got one or two, we really have multiply,
really need more. I mean, I wish Mari and our
fans would were more passionate.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
We know that.
Speaker 6 (12:21):
Editing.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
Jess has nothing to do for the next twenty minutes
because we've got to Chris and Nate here Molly wat
Monday on a Thursday emergency edition.
Speaker 8 (12:28):
You guys promise not to swear because I might be listening.
Speaker 6 (12:31):
To something else.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Yeah, hey, guys, don't swear, Okay, can it just Nathan,
I'm talking to you, fella, talking to you right there,
King of all real estate on the Peninsula. I'm key,
I'm talking to you Crawford. I don't worry about he's
a professional. Okay, let's uh, let's get let me go
through a couple of things one in one. No confirmation yet.
I was just teching, Textingdivish this morning and some other stuff,
(12:53):
and just I'm gonna get to something about that in
a second. But nine years, six hundred and eighty wins,
six on or forty two losses. He's the only only
the second manager to take the Mariners to a playoff,
right right, him and lou only two guys so, but
he did. He had one playoff appearance in eight years,
going on nine five hundred team right now, worst record
(13:16):
in the American League West since June eighteenth. Service takes
the fall. Let me before I go back to you, guys,
I just want to state something from my last segment.
I I don't disagree with firing Scott Service. I think
if that's the take a hail mary man, take a shot,
try to get to the playoffs, that's it's still kind
of about that, I hope, I think. I just my
(13:36):
point is this, it should have been both of them.
It should have been him and Topoto. If you're quote
serious about winning, let me go and start with you again, Chris,
and go down the line. Whatever percentage of an impact
in the game a manager in the major leagues has. Plus,
it's not just game, it's the you know, pre serious scouting.
(13:59):
It's you know, sitting down with the coaches and the
pitching staff before. Like so, now you got San Francisco
coming into town, going through all those things. There's a
lot going on, more so than I think sometimes manager
to get credit for, none of which Dan Wilson has done.
Would it have sent a better message that hey, we're
serious about winning and we're doing this because we're taking
(14:21):
a final shot at winning. If they would have hired
a guy with experience, whether it's in the Triple A level,
major league level, even on an interim basis, one of
the two guys on the staff that could have done it,
would that have been better? Or does it even matter?
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Chris, it's a really good question. I would say it
does matter a little bit. And I'm surprised that it's
not Negron or maniacta who is getting this. But I
think your text or your your voice text, guy, I
think they hit the nail on the head that this
is just a perfect little I'm not going to call
(14:58):
it a puppet, I'll call it a situation and where
Dan Wilson is going to manage this baseball team like
Jerry Depoto and Justin Hollander want this team to be
managed like now, Scott Servis was doing.
Speaker 9 (15:09):
The same thing.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Right, It's not like Scott service And I don't have
evidence of this, but from everyone I've talked to and
based on the vibes that I've felt, he certainly wasn't
going against the Poto and Hollander and doing things that
they didn't want. You know, all of the decisions that
were being made were in line with that type of thing. Really,
this moves is about the clubhouse and Dan Wilson, I'm
(15:31):
sure spending time in the clubhouse and has worked with
those players, spend time with them in spring training. But
this is a massive jump to go from that to
managing a baseball team that, even though they're trying very
hard not to be, it's still very much in a
playoff spot, or in contention, I should say, for that
(15:52):
playoff spot, it's a real big risk. And it's why
I go back to I think this is more about
making the fan base happy and saying, look, we're upset
about this, but we're not going to fire Jerry Depoto.
And look, maybe Jerry Depoto's job will be on the
line if and when they don't make the postseason. But
I think their line of thinking is, well, this is
(16:15):
the guy who got us into this position. Let's see
if he can get us through this thing, which is
kind of a joke to me. We've seen over and
over again that at its best, it's almost winning a
game in the Alds, right, But I think that's their
thought process is is we make that change afterwards. So yes,
while if I'm being one hundred percent honest with you,
(16:37):
Jerry Depoto would probably not no longer be my president
of Baseball operations, even though I think for the most
part he's done a pretty good job. It's just time
for a different change. I'm not surprised he's not getting
to let go, because you can't really make that the
scapegoat as much as you.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Can make the manager.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
I've seen the decks, I've gotten the messages people are
furious about Scott Servis. This is so much easier of
a change, so much easier to justify than making that decision.
So let's see how it goes.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
It was easy, no doubt about it, very easy to
get rid of the manager on a day off before
your final thirty four games of the year. Nathan Bishop's
same question, if they were serious about winning, Is Dan
Wilson the guy or is this just to appease a
crowd that really doesn't care about that?
Speaker 5 (17:28):
Well, I'll tell you what, I definitely agree that firing
Scott is the easy thing to do. There's a huge
open ended question, and I think you'll probably guess what
my thoughts are on it.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
That's whether it's actually an impactful one.
Speaker 5 (17:42):
We've talked to a nondim on this show about the
limited impact of managers to begin with, the only thing
that's interesting to me, you guys about this hiring, the
decision to hire Dan Wilson, is whether that choice was
something that Jerry to Poto had him put on because
it doesn't really sound like him and I don't think
we have any confirmation on this yet, but that it
looks like Edgar Martinez is going to be joining Dan staff.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Are you kidding me? Are you?
Speaker 10 (18:05):
Elliam?
Speaker 4 (18:06):
I would never lie to you. I would I've never
told a.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Joe Eatrill's got to be on the staff too. Trill's
got to be on the staff, right, like, you got
to bring him in.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
I don't know what Jeff Nelson's up to, but maybe
he can come back to We'll see. But I'm not
making that up with Edgar Martinez. That's what I'm seeing
right now that he's going to join Dan in the clubhouse.
So and that doesn't feel like a Jerry Depoto move.
That feels like it's something that's being done over his head,
which to me is interesting because it reflects if.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
We played that down for the down the line.
Speaker 5 (18:34):
To me, that shows Jerry's grip on this organization is
starting to slip and that his job is in question.
And I think that until you move on from him
as the president of Baseball Operations, it probably doesn't really matter.
I'm with you, Ian, like, the only justification for firing
Scott in this specific circumstance and only him, is just
the hail Mary Hey, does pushing a different button get
(18:56):
us a different result?
Speaker 4 (18:57):
We've got, you know.
Speaker 5 (18:59):
Thirty four year or something like that, to see if
we can win the division for the first time, even
though we have been one of the worst teams of
baseball for the last two months. But as far as
true impact, this is not an impactful decision, especially given.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
Who they hired and honestly within the league. I don't know.
I don't have insider information, but.
Speaker 5 (19:15):
If you're if you're Chris na Grone or maniacta who
would be the presumptive interm manager in the situation, many
actor who has significant MLB managerial experience already in the
past with success.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
I just don't know how this plays out.
Speaker 5 (19:30):
How do those guys feel like the How are they
supposed to come into work on Friday knowing that they've
just been supplanted by a guy who, again, Lord love him,
has coached the Raindeers for like a weekend and then
some softball.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
So I just don't know. I just don't see how
it's going it's.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
Supposed to ring other than just this is just a
new shiny thing for us to go cheer out. And
I'll be at the game on Friday, so I.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Will be very interesting to see what the crowd response is.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
My assumption is it will be overwhelmingly positive for a
collection of people who really have not been given much
besides mentioned ninety five to cheer over over and over
and over again.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Well, lotay I can't confirm that. I'm sorry, sorry to interrupt,
especially an advertisement read, but I can't confirm Edgar Martinez
well be on the coaching stuff.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
At least he's been on a major league coach. I mean,
he was a major leg hitting coaching.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Stomer so and he called me a cool grandson. So
let's not forget about that. You are, like, what really important?
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Right, Edgar Martinez witched my grandma a happy birthday and
called me a cool grandson and wasn't a very good
hitting coach, but he did call me a cool grandson.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Let me uh, let me reset in two ways. One,
I don't even know if I said where I'm at today,
and we're at the stollqual Me Casino. See How's closest casino,
the sponsor of our radio show. We're up here to
tell you about the pick'em contest. He beat the point
spread pigskin challenge. We'll tell you about that. All the
great things they have going on up here at snow
Qualmy Casino. Also Molly Watt Monday on a Thursday, even
the emergency edition brought to you by Simply Seattle, Simply
(20:55):
Seattle dot com. I'm curious what Jake and the boys
have up their sleeves after this one. I can't wait
to see the next set of shirts coming out all
it simply see atle dot Companies whab wat fifteen to
check out Chris. I'm gonna go light here for a
second and then we'll get back to the serious stuff.
What do you think Dan Wilson shouldn't be a Hall
of Famer for the Mariners?
Speaker 3 (21:12):
Come on now, like, look, Wilson a mighty good man.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
No, if you ever.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
Got, if you got real quick, and it has nothing
to do with that, will be as a manager or
really how he goes a player. Go look at Dan
Wilson's stats in the playoffs and just cackle, just cackle
because they are I believe he had an over forty
one streak at one point.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
Could we be honest here if we're talking about the
Mariners Hall of Fame? Like how hard? How high is
that bar?
Speaker 11 (21:45):
Like?
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Really, like how high is that barn?
Speaker 4 (21:48):
The best player to ever play for the organization is
not in it.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
So it's apparently pretty that's true. That is true that
Jeff Manteo is not in the Mariner.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
Said it's a crime that we must rectify. Chris, thank you,
thank you.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Power did but dark make it or not, he's an opening.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
They start on his way and then he got pulled
in the fourth inning before he could get into the
Hall of Sir.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
He did not get pulled. He looked up at the
pitch count and it was at ninety five. He said,
I'm out. I'm done.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
He's walking out. He's nine to.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
What's that? Yeah, yeah, div is just sideways. I kind
of I'm enjoying. I love Ryan. He's like, yeah, I
haven't confirmed it, but I threw my phone against the wall,
so that's why it's it's it's uh, it's a solid.
The best thing about this is Okay, now we're like
two hours in and there's still no confirmation from the team.
(22:42):
Such a well run organization. I'm just shocked, I really am.
I'm shocked by all this. Okay, let me let me
go back to the manager role itself. Chris, Like we said,
there's this narrative truth or not true, true or not true.
I don't even know in baseball that of all the
of all the sports, the baseball manager is the least impactful.
(23:02):
And okay, let's say that that based on the other sports,
might be true, But then why is it that we
look at guys like Dusty Baker and others and say, man,
this guy made a massive change, massive impact. Blah blah blah.
Philadelphia changes manager two years ago went to the World Series.
If if the manager has no impact, why do we
look at guys like that through a different lens?
Speaker 12 (23:26):
You know?
Speaker 3 (23:26):
And I think what it is is the more it's
it's harder to quantify what a manager does well, right,
But if you take a look at like an NFL
head coach, it's like a little easier to like pinpoint
the things they do well, the adjustments they make in
the second half play calling, if they're running the ball
on second and ten, if there you know, that type
(23:47):
of thing in basketball, you can take a look at
like defensive statistics and stuff like that. With baseball, outside
of maybe a little bit of where guys hit in
the lineup and bullpen decisions, which you know are often
based on availability more so than actual strategy, it's just
much harder to quantify, and it's why what they do
in the locker room is so much more important, but
(24:10):
it doesn't get talked about as much, especially nowadays where
analytics are such a big part of the game. You know,
they always have been, but it's much more spoken about,
much more public. It's harder to prove those things, so
a lot of people just say, well, since I can't
prove it, I might as well just not talk about
it or ignore it. They're still an important figurehead. Keeping
(24:31):
a group of guys together, twenty six to forty players
together for six months, where you're together basically every single day,
is a really important thing. And I actually think that's
one of the reasons why I'm a little sad about
this is I think Scott's Service did a fantastic job
with this clubhouse. I got nothing but glowing reports about
(24:52):
Scott's Service keeping this group together, and I saw some
people tweeting about that he lost the clubhouse. I didn't
see any eviden of that whatsoever. What I saw was
a bunch of mediocre players losing baseball teams to not
so good teams, and then a really great team that
we saw play over this last part of the week.
But it's just so hard to prove what a manager
(25:14):
does outside of just looking at wins and losses, and
I think we can get in trouble when we do that,
Like We don't really know the impact that Scott Service made.
I go back though again to was he making the
team better? Was Scott Service making the Seattle Mariners better?
And I have a hard time proving that. So it's
just a really tough thing.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
All right. Let me let me go to the president
of the Scott Service fan Club. His name is Nathan Bishop.
You can follow him on the platform formerly known as
Twitter noow x dot com. Nathan, let me let me you.
You've said this often and I tend to agree with you,
and I think Chris kind of even you know, alluded
to this part of what we're talking about as well.
It always felt like with Service, the team played hard
(25:57):
and maybe maybe his were tied with organizational And we're
going to play some sound jefts from Steven Susa from
the Morning Show this morning in the one o'clock hour
in regards to where the organization is philosophically, and it's Jerry.
We'll get to that. It was pretty damning comments from
Susa earlier today on the Morning Show. But Service did
(26:19):
his team seemed like they didn't give up, especially when
their backs were against the wall, Nate.
Speaker 5 (26:23):
Which they were constantly constantly against the Wall because this
team has never had the talent that it has had
to go up against one of the greatest dynasties in
the last twenty to thirty years in baseball, and the
Houston Aftros, who I think Chris knows that I always butcher.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
I think it's six.
Speaker 5 (26:38):
Straight American League Championship Series that they've been to, they've
won two World Series, and they've just been constantly outclassing
this organization at every step. And then the Texas Rangers
rudely decided that you could just pay a lot of
money to get really good baseball players last year, and
it's all added up. I don't think the Marions are
allowed to do that, by the way, that's also not fair.
But it's all added up to service constantly having him
(27:00):
back against the ball, constantly trying to make one third
and one third equal one even though it doesn't. And
I think that it's not only has he managed to
coax more wins, to your point, in the style of
play when this team and actually I think the most
compelling reason for Scott to leave now is that that
style that I've long praised him for has started to
(27:20):
ebb out of this specific team's play. Last road trip
just really looked like a team that had run out
of gas in a way, the Scott's team, and I
want to ever looked at before.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
And I want to get to that. In a second.
I'm running out of time, but I want to get
to that because I think that's that's the kind of
the to wrap things up. I really want to get
to that. I think that's an important thing you just mentioned,
because I think what we saw the last three days
was exactly what Nate alluded to. I want to read
a tweet those guys from Larry Stone and listen. I'm
(27:52):
not sure if there's a more respected revered journalist in
town now retired than Larry. He says, I don't feel enjoyed.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Me on Twitter. That's accurate. Before that here we're incorrect,
but he just followed me, so yeah, it's evacuate.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Larry says, I don't feel any joy about this. Scott
Service is a good man and a good manager. On
the blame scale for Mariners season, I put him well
down the list. But the manager always takes the fall,
and they start with Ken. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (28:16):
Yeah, I just want to make sure that I add
on to that.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
I agree one hundred percent for.
Speaker 5 (28:20):
Everything that I've heard about Scott's Service, and I just
want to say something publicly. For one, I know that
nobody's going to care, and everybody thinks that I'm full
of it, and nobody really listens to what I say,
and that's totally okay. I have two teenagers at home,
so I'm really used to it. But for the record,
I totally think that when Scott's Service was hired here,
he was hired here to be a in essence, a
frictionalist cog in Jerry to Poto's great masterful plan, something
(28:44):
that he didn't have with Mike Soshia in Anaheim and
obviously didn't want to have that be the case. I
don't think that that is an accurate portrayal of his
current role in the organization, and I don't think it's
an accurate representation of his relationship with Jerry Depoto, and
I don't think it's been an accurate one for quick
quite a while. And I think that you saw that
last year when Scott probably had a little bit of
(29:04):
a hiccup with the way he responded to cal Rawley's
criticism of the front office at the end of the
last year and then went to the line for his
players at the end of the year in all off season,
trying to heal the relationships and help keep that clubhouse
together after Jerry just tried to blow it apart with
his big dumb mouth after last year. And I just
want to make sure that we get that on the
(29:24):
same on the record, Scott's service has not been a
stooge of this front office for a very long time.
Does he get influenced by their analytic department to make decisions?
Absolutely did to collaborate, Yes, but they are not simply
a yes men situation here.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
And he's a good man.
Speaker 5 (29:41):
And it just sucks to see a good man who's
had success here go go away today.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
It's just a bummer.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
And I'm just going to reiterate this. I don't disagree
with the move to take a hail Mary and replace
the manager. I kind of disagree with who they replaced
him with. I guess my is my opinion on this.
I'm gonna I'm going to ask you guys a huge favor.
Can can we do one more final segment? Because I've
got one. I got someone I need to get to.
Is that okay? I'm asking I appreciate you guys both. Yeah,
(30:09):
I want because I want Here's what I want to
do when we come back. I think this is important.
I think we need to look ahead over the next
thirty four games. And my question to you guys when
we come back is this, whether it was going to
be Scott's service, Chris Dea, gron Many, Actor, Edgar Martinez,
(30:29):
each yierro Ken Griffy Junior, Jay Buhner, Jeff Soirillo, Jeff Nelson,
Charlie floor Bush, whoever it would have been. Eric God,
I wish I'd bring back Eric Bitdark. That would just
like bring him back as the bullpen coach or pitching coach.
Wouldn't that be awesome? And then like it's like the
(30:49):
sixth inning and he's like, yeah, I'm good, I'm out.
I'll see, guest, I'm dumb. I'll ask you guys this
when we come back. What Dan Wilson inherit for the
final thirty four games? What does he inherit? What does
he have? Because Nathan hit on something there that I
think is really vitally important, and that is how tired
(31:12):
and worn out this team looks, especially the bullpen. We'll
talk about that next a special one hour edition on
the day the Scott Service reportedly has been fired of
Malli wat Monday brought to by Simply Seattle coming up.

Speaker 11 (31:42):
Nothing is going to change with the Mariners until the
photo is gone.
Speaker 13 (31:46):
The only way we're going to be able to force
that issue is if the fans stop showing up.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
This season is done.
Speaker 13 (31:53):
Next season two weeks a month, we stopped showing up
to the stadium, no ticket sales.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
Nothing. Batt'll change it. Batt'll tell the ownership leaving business.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
You can't just start with service.
Speaker 10 (32:07):
How does the POTO have a job, How does DeHart
have a job, or anybody that is associated with hitting
our offense.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
They should have just clean house. Send the message.
Speaker 5 (32:15):
These players get it in gear because they're playing for
a spot for next year.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
We got more talkbacks coming in. Fire those away. Go
to the iHeartRadio AP Night three point three k draft
Fan a little red microphone. He got thirty seconds. We
want to hear from you today. Jess is editing those
and putting them in the system. We're going to play
them throughout the day.

Thank you for being respectful.

Yes, make sure you send those in and again we're

his show coming up starting at three pm this afternoon.
All right, back to Nathan and Chris. One final segment.
We've done it. This is a record an hour long
(32:56):
mollywat Monday on a Thursday emergency edition. Here we are
brought to you. I simply seattlesimply sale dot com. Uh,
Chris Crawford, what are what is Dan Wilson inheriting? Baseball? Wise?
This thing looks like Nathan mentioned it earlier. Man, it
looked like especially bullpen wise, even Logan Gilbert last night
feels like it's kind of leaking oil and running out
of gas.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
H He's ineriting a baseball team that's for sure. It's
it's such a mess right now. I mean, the lineup's
been such a poopy pants group for all the year,
and then you've got a bullpen that is just deteriorating
(33:39):
in front of our very eyes. The only reliever who
has been any good as of late as Colin Snyder,
and yes that includes Andre's Munos, who has looked overworked
over him. He looks tired. I don't care about his
velocity andres Munos. You when you have command that bad,
clearly you are tired. And I go back to all
(34:01):
the born one in a third innings, the four outstays
that he's gotten the most in baseball. It adds up, folks,
whether you believe it or not, it absolutely adds up.
And you're starting pitching has been great, but has had
a little bit of a low lately too. Logan Gilbert
wasn't very.
Speaker 9 (34:17):
Good last time out.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
Luis Castile wasn't very good last time out. You know,
the only thing that Dan Wilson's inheriting is a pretty
crappy schedule. But I'm not one hundred percent sure he's
not inheriting just as crappy of a baseball team. Good
luck Dan. I hope he really likes those City Connect uniforms.
That seems to be the only thing they've got really
going for him right now.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
What do you think he's inheriting, Nate.
Speaker 4 (34:41):
Well, I mean, here's the.
Speaker 5 (34:43):
Thing, being analytical about this and taking a step back.
I agree with everything that Chris said as far as
the current state of the way the team is playing.
They're better than.
Speaker 4 (34:53):
They've been recently.
Speaker 5 (34:54):
They were never as good as they were on that
ridiculous hot streak because they went after the bad start
in April. I don't think that they are as bad
as they have shown over the last couple of months.
And like Chris said, the roster, excuse me, the schedule
is going to get easier here for the next.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
Couple of weeks.
Speaker 5 (35:09):
Times that they just got done playing just a really,
really scary baseball team that was super fun to watch.
I forgot how much fun it was to watch baseball
teams with real major league hitters on it. But you know,
it wouldn't surprise me at all if they kind of
just bumble around around five hundred, which is where they've been.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
The problem is is that they have to do so
much more than that.
Speaker 5 (35:28):
We went over the mass last week or two days ago,
or yesterday or earlier this morning, whenever you had us
on the air.
Speaker 4 (35:34):
Laft. I've lost track.
Speaker 5 (35:35):
At this point, but it's they've got to win so
many games. They've got to pull off such an amazing
run here to have a legitimate shot at winning the
americanly West.
Speaker 4 (35:45):
And the Astros.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
Great to see them lose a series against a tough
little Red Sox team, and they've got a tough.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
Record for the next week and a half.
Speaker 5 (35:52):
But if they're not within a game or two within
the next ten days, I think this thing is pretty
much cook Man and there's just no he's in watching
this team play to think they have that kind of
run in them.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Real quick, guys. To wrap it up, let me just
throw this at you, Nathan. I'll start with you final
thoughts and then tell us where we can find you today.
What is the most likely scenario the Mariners getting hot
under Dan Wilson and getting the playoffs or the Mariners
continuing playing five hundred or worst baseball and missing the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (36:22):
Yeah, I mean, I said last time we were on
I think I think it's more likely they finished under
five hundred than they make the playoffs, and at this point,
I definitely think that.
Speaker 4 (36:30):
That's easily the case.
Speaker 5 (36:32):
Since they're at five hundred right now, I think it's
going to go poorly.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
If I had to guess, I really hope I'm wrong.
I talked about this yesterday.
Speaker 5 (36:40):
Man, my kid barely watching the Mariners anymore, and after
watching his love for the game and for this team
spark over the last two to three seasons, watching the
regression in his interest in following the team on a
day to day basis has been a huge bummer. This
is a massive, massive squandered opportunity by this organization. But
at the end of this season, if they are not
(37:01):
in the playoffs, if this move to remove Scott's service
is not the beginning of a full organizational audit from
the very top down to figure out what it is
that has made this the only major League team to
not make a World Series.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
I just don't know what else to do, guys. I mean,
we'll just be on.
Speaker 5 (37:20):
The radio every Monday from here until eternity or whenever
the universe ends, talking about how the Marriors need to
get serious because they have yet to tree get serious.
And nothing about today makes me think that that has
changed or will be changing anytime soon. You can follow
me on x slash Twitter at Nathan underscore h Underscore
B for similar, happy, cheery and optimistic thoughts.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
Chris, you got thirty seconds since you started. You get
thirty seconds to finish. Fire away.
Speaker 3 (37:47):
The only thing I wanted to add is that I
saw a lot of people saying, well, this must mean
that the Poto's jobs saved. This must be a long
term thing. I don't think that's true at all. I
think this is an audition for Dan Wilson. He will
have thirty four games to prove whether or not he
is capable of being an MLB manager. A lot of
people seem to be thinking that this is a permanent thing.
(38:08):
I don't think this is a permanent thing. He'll certainly
get the chance to finish the season, but Dan Wilson
is not necessarily your manager for twenty twenty five. Male

no confirmation for the Mariners, but Ken Rosenfall, who did

reporting the M's have let Scott's service go, replacing him
with Dan Wilson. Also Adam Jude for the sale time,
(39:23):
saying that he's hearing Edgar Martinez will also be on

We usually go like go like another sport to cleanse

the Seahawks. Today, we're taking about a twelve minute break
from all things Mariners to talk Seahawks with Corbyn Smith.
How are you, my friends? I'm good.
Speaker 10 (41:16):
I feel like I'm kind of an afterthought with all
the Mariner's news today.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
That's not often that the Seahawks are on page two,
but they are on page too today and they shouldn't
be because they made a trade that is I think
I'll call it sneaky significant. Now, Greg Bell and I
on crosstalk and on his show, we've talked a lot
he and I about when Michael Jackson just really seems
like a prime candidate to get moved or traded because
(41:40):
of the depth at corner guy that's been a seventeen
game starter in the league and everything else and having
a good camp by all accounts, You and I talked
about the exact same thing. We did a little roster
roulette a couple of weeks ago out at the Virginia
Mason Athletics Center. Lo and behold, he gets traded today
and they bring back a linebacker that probably is known
quite well by the head coach, Mike McDonald. Your thoughts
on the trade.
Speaker 10 (42:01):
I absolutely love this trade, and not because Mike Jackson's
a player that you know you're happy to see gone.
I mean, he's had a really good run in Seattle,
but they had so much depth at cornerback, and as
you mentioned, we talked about this in the roster let
a few weeks ago. It felt like if there was
a player that was going to potentially have interest from
(42:23):
other teams in the trade market in that quarterback spot.
Jackson would fit the bill because he has started twenty
one games the last two years and has played pretty
well in thats fan, but Seattle needed to continue building
a younger foundation at linebacker. Tyrel Dodson and Drome Baker
are on one year proven deals. There's not another guy
on the roster beyond it this year that has played
(42:44):
more than nineteen defensive snaps. Now that factoy does not change.
Bringing in Michael Barrett. He's obviously a seventh round pick
and he's a rookie, but he did play for Mike
McDonald the one year that McDonald was an ann arbor
as the defensive coordinator at Michigan. And it's interesting you
look at the athletic testing, he didn't test very well.
Barrett is not one of those guys that's going to
(43:04):
jump off the page in terms of his forty times.
His short shuttle was in the eighteenth percentile. I mean,
he is not this guy is not a great athlete
by any means, but he plays faster than that on
the field and he checks off all the boxes that
Mike McDonald's looking for at linebacker. Last year he actually
had according to Pro Football Focus, he had the highest
(43:25):
pass rush win rate of any linebacker in the country
with over thirty one percent. So when he blitched, he
got home, and Mike McDonald demands that from his linebackers.
He has been a plus coverage linebacker. He's a very
heady player. He can take on blocks even though he's
only five eleven, he's two thirty three. He's short and stocky,
so he can handle taken on blocks. He can defend
(43:47):
the run. So this feels like you put him with
Tyrese knight Ian. You've got two players that could be
the foundation for the middle of your defense. Have very
different skill sets that should compliment one another quite well.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
Corbyn too with with the depth they have on the
defensive line, and I think with the new system that
we're gonna see with Mike McDonald adding Byron Murphy a
healthy chin of NUOSU, the development of Derek Hall Hankins
a true nose in the middle, Jaron Reid's ability to
move all over the line, all the things they have
going on the defensive line, an incredible secondary deep enough
(44:21):
where you can you know, trade a guy in Michael Jackson.
With all that said, the two inside linebackers, the stack linebackers, Knight,
the athletic run around headhunter guy, and then Barrett who
could play probably I'm assuming a mic linebacker position. Yeah,
so those guys. How important is it to have a
(44:42):
guy that you know has that athleticism of a Jordan
Brooks playing the mic as he did two years ago
and Bobby was gone or in this system, can you
get away with a guy that's not athletic? Click bart Is.
Speaker 10 (44:54):
It's interesting because you look at the linebackers that McDonald
has had success with. For the most part, they have
been guys that can fly, that have really good athletic
testing numbers. But Michael Barrett is the exception of the
rule in the sense that, again, I just think this
guy everybody that I talked to at Michigan, I had
him on a couple of my mock drafts going to
(45:15):
the Seahawks, So I did a lot of research on
this kid. Everybody that I've talked to has said his
football IQ is off the charts, and so you can
play much faster when you have those kind of instincts
and understanding of the game. And that's what I see
on film. When I was watching Junior Colson, the other
linebacker who got picked by the Chargers, and Jim Harbaugh
(45:36):
in the third round, I believe I couldn't stop watching
number twenty three because Michael Barrett was the one that
was making so man, I mean, both these guys are
really good linebackers, but Barrett just jumped off the tape
and then you see the athletic testing numbers are like,
That's not what I saw in the field, and so
I think that's something that has to obviously be considered.
Speaker 2 (45:54):
Here Corbyn Smith joining us here on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline.
We'll have a lot more discuss after preseason game finale
on Saturday. Quick thoughts from you on what you expect
to see this weekend. Mike McDonald's gonna speak after practice.
I believe today as well. We'll probably get a better
feel for things. But you know, outside of maybe starters
(46:16):
playing a little bit, who knows whatever. What are you
looking for this weekend in the final preseason game?
Speaker 10 (46:24):
Well as far as positions. I'm gonna be watching number one, two,
and three. I want to see right guard because no
matter who's going to be playing for the starters, you know,
Christian Haynes and Anthony Bradford are gonna be getting a
ton of snaps. And it feels like that now is
very much a tightly contested battle, which it didn't seem
like it was that even a couple of weeks ago,
but that has turned into a very competitive matchup. So
(46:47):
I'm gonna be watching the offensive line. That's where I
think you need to see the starters the most. On offense.
Can you get that cohesive group out there. You're obviously
probably not gonna be playing Connor Williams, but can you
get as many of your starters that are healthy right
now out there at least get a driver or two
with them on the field. But I want to see
that right guard spot and how that plays out. And
I want to continue to watch the young linebackers and
(47:10):
corners on this roster. And I would assume bar It's
not going to be playing in this game because he
just traded for him, but Tyres Knights has gradually gotten
better here in his first training camp. I want to
see what he continues to play like as he puts
pressure on some of those other linebackers they've got on
the roster. They did get Jerome Baker back in the
practice field today, but heck Knight could be in line
to play some snaps on defense in week once. He
(47:32):
want to see what he looks like in his final
preseason twoed up and then the secondary now that Mike
Jackson's gone, I and is is the performance from me
and Maia Pritchett and DJ James going to step up.
Pritchett has been okay, not great in the preseason. DJ
James looked terrible in that seing. I mean, I I
(47:53):
there's no other way to put it. I mean, I
don't like to sounds like I'm slamming a guy, but
like nothing went right for him in that game. So
if he wants to have any chance to make this
football team, you better be able to bounce back and
put together a solid final preseason game. And even then,
I don't know if he is on the right side
of the bubble at this point because of how much
he has struggled. But I want to watch those young
(48:13):
guys that are trying to battle for a spot, and
now there may be another spot in that quarterback position
where those rookies can try to make this football team.
Speaker 2 (48:21):
All right, one more for you, Corbyn? Who are guys
that are you mentioned the corners? I obviously stuff like that.
Who are guys maybe veterans or even draft picks that
are truly battling for a spot on the fifty three men?
Speaker 10 (48:34):
Well, James takes the cake as far as the draft picks.
And then I would also say Mike Darrell. If Abraham
Lucas is not going to be ready for Week one,
which at this point I'd be stunned if they are
going to get him back for the season opener. In fact,
I would lean more towards he's gonna miss the first
four games and still be on the pup list. With
the way things are trending right now, you at that point,
(48:55):
I don't know that you can cut Mike Durrell and
risk somebody else signing him to their roster when you're
trying to sneak into the practice squad. And he's looked
solid in both preseason games. He was the only guy
in the third string offensive line that looked confident last
week in that second half. The entire rest of the
line was struggling, couldn't protect PJ. Walker, couldn't run the ball.
(49:16):
Mike Drell was the one bright spot. And so I
would say the Darrell and DJ James, the two rookies
that have the most on the line, the two draft
picks that the most of the line going into this game.
And as far as veterans goes on offense, I'm gonna
be watching Tyler Mabury with this tight end situation. He
is not a guy that I had making this football team.
(49:37):
But if Beryl Brown is out for a significant amount
of time, no offense banged up. Maybury's made some really
nice blocks in the preseason. He's been around for a while.
I could see him playing his way back onto this
roster with those circumstances. And on defense, Tyakatta, I love
the kid. I wish there was a spot for him
on this football team. I just love the chip he
plays with. He's nasty, he gets under people's and I
(50:00):
think Mike McDonald loves that about him. Is just trying
to figure out is there a spot for him on
this football team. He might deal still win that roster spot.
One of those few guys that truly is on the
bubble going into this preseason finale.
Speaker 2 (50:12):
Corvin Smith locked on SEAHAWKSSI dot com Seahawk Coverage podcast
with our buddy Rob rang who's going to join us tomorrow,
talking about what he's looking for this weekend. We will
talk to you next week, my friend. Thank you so much.
We'll have a lot more to discuss after the final
preseason game and cut down day.
Speaker 4 (50:30):
Absolutely, we'll see how many starters play. That's really the
biggest question here.
Speaker 2 (50:33):
So Corven Smith brought to you by Jim Elliott Real
Estate sold by Jim dot com. That's two ms sold

back into Scott's service reportedly being out as the Mariner's manager.

Speaker 14 (51:06):
Something's got to change and the whole culture, it's ridiculous
the amount of wealth that we have in this community
and we put up with these guys year after year
after year. It's it's it's naunciating something's gotta change this time.
Speaker 15 (51:24):
Thanks you guys.
Speaker 4 (51:24):
Bye.
Speaker 11 (51:25):
You want to know the real problem, it's not Scott,
it's the man who put this team together. Take a
look at the other night replay it. There's your problem.
Base is loaded with who what are their names? Hoping
to get hit in by Dylan freaking Moore. That's the problem.
A manager's job isn't to develop players. The GM's job
(51:47):
is to give him players that are already developed in
Major League ready.
Speaker 2 (51:50):
He's a joke, he's a scapegoat. We're gonna get some
more talkbacks as well, I should say, I know. We'll
get more talkbacks, Jess. We'll go through all the talkbacks and.
Speaker 15 (52:00):
We're gonna sen.
Speaker 2 (52:01):
A KJR record today. With those, go to the iHeartRadio
app KJR part of the eight iHeartRadio app and get
your thoughts, comments, questions, concerns regarding the news today. Ken
Rosenthal from The Athletic right now the only one reporting it.
Nothing from Divish or the team, So we're waiting to hear.
But Scott Service sounds like he's out. Dan Wilson is
in as the intra manager. I think it was Adam
(52:25):
Jude said that it sounds like Edgar Martinez is going
to join the staff as well. Weird Still call the

you can play all season long, big big cast prizes,
big thanks for friends here at Still call me Casino
the Sportsbook Now. On Monday on the radio station, I
(52:49):
heard Chuck Powell, our morning host six to ten with
Bucky Jacobson Ashley Ryan. I heard him say that if
they lose two to three, probably a managerial move could
be made, or maybe should be made. He went, I
was softy. Later that day doubled down and said, yeah,
exactly what I said. Said it again this morning after
they got swept. And I'll tell you this, if there
(53:10):
is big Husky football news, I want one guy on
the air to get his perspective. You know who that is.
If if something's going on in the world of hockey,
we'll call Mike Benton. If something's going on in the
world of craft brewing, that I expect to be joined
(53:31):
being called for people on the show. That's my only expertise.
But there's one guy that does sports radio in this
market who's baseball acumen and knowledge, passion and the fact
that I could ask him who the Tiger is going
to go to in the bullpen? Down ten two to
Cleveland right now and the ninth inning probably probably there
you go. See, that's why he's here. Chuck Powell is
(53:53):
with us, and he's he's this is such a big day.
He's in the studio right now. I'm here at the caste.
You know, Chuck, you kind of called it, you kind
of felt it coming as of Monday. They lose the
first two, then they get swept. Are you at all surprised?
Speaker 3 (54:10):
Uh?
Speaker 16 (54:10):
Well, I'm a little bit surprised because, I mean, I
said this morning, I don't I don't know if they
were going to pull the trigger. I My thing that
I've said since Monday is that's what I would do.
And it's not because you've got to beat the Dodgers
two out of three. No, it's you have to save
losing five out of six to pirates and Tigers. You
have to not have a one in eight or two
(54:31):
and seven road trip based on what is already collapsed
around you. There is still time. I know people really
don't want to consider that, but thirty four games left,
it's not out of the question that you could go
on a heater. And I just didn't see this team
responding to Scott's service here as of late, and so
(54:52):
it felt to me like something some sort of desperate
act had to occur. And you know that ownership's not
going to chang itself, and you're not gonna I don't
think it's going to be a big of an impact
if you make some executive change. So the biggest head
that could roll with Scott's service, and let's face it,
a manager's job is to get the most out of
his team, most out of the personnel that he has.
(55:13):
I feel that this team is underachieved grossly the last
couple of years and and certainly as of late, and
so for those reasons, I think that this is the
move that I would have made. And yes I did.
I said that back on Monday, and I said yesterday,
this is Scott Servis's last game if I'm calling the shots,
(55:34):
which of course I'm not.
Speaker 2 (55:36):
But but you kind of did give yourself credit. You
kind of did well. Listen. I so agree with what
you said about you know, still salvaging the season because
and I you know, I had this debate with a
number of people this week, and I think that when
you look at it feels it feels really hot hard
(55:58):
right now, they sit their five out. You know, we
went through the numbers yesterday and I guess I can
update the numbers today. If Houston just goes five hundred,
the rest of the way, Seattle has to go now
what twenty three and eleven or twenty two and twelve
to catch them, and luckily they have a tie breakers.
That's I mean, seems like it's hard, but it's weird
how those numbers work in baseball. But I'm with you, Chuck,
(56:19):
like I don't want to see guys lose their job.
I in anything. I just don't. My only thing is
I do kind of think, well, I'll get to Jerry
in a second. But I do think you got to
do a hail Mary. It's still professional sports, and if
there's a chance and a time, don't you have to
exhaust everything. And I think that's what you were saying,
and I agree with that. I Dan Wilson will get
(56:39):
to in a second, but there is still time to
salvage things. I do applaud them for making a move
yet to be confirmed. But what you were saying is simply, hey,
don't give up just yet, but you have one final move.
And really, honestly, what do you have to lose, right
cause if you don't make the playoffs, you're probably gonna
turf him anyway.
Speaker 16 (56:57):
Yeah, yeah, for sure, Yeah yeah, And you got to
go a little bit outside the clubhouse.
Speaker 15 (57:02):
I think Negron.
Speaker 16 (57:04):
Maybe a manager of the future, but a little bit
outside of the clubhouse. And yet it probably was too
late in the process to go unless you went Mark
de Rosa, maybe he would take it Captain America, you know,
manager of the American baseball team, something something like that.
Speaker 15 (57:21):
But I think Dan Wilson's Name's been brought up.
Speaker 16 (57:24):
Quite a bit here in the last few years as
maybe a managerial candidate if nothing else. You get to
kick the tires on that, both Dan and the Mariners
get to kick the tires on that possible marriage.
Speaker 15 (57:35):
But something that shakes it up a little bit.
Speaker 16 (57:38):
And I wouldn't have said this and if it hadn't
worked in the past, and we just saw it two
years ago, the Philadelphia Phillies were Roderless under Joe Girardi,
and they go to Rob Thompson. Nobody had ever heard
of Rob Thompson. And not only did they win, they
won immediately, they won big, and they ended up in
the World Series that year. We've seen the Miami Marlins
(58:02):
back when they were the Florida Marlins. They got rid
of their manager midway through the year and Jack mckehon
came in. They won the World Series. Joe Morgan, not
the baseball player, but the Boston Red Sox manager a
few years ago. Morgan Magic, they called it in Boston.
Speaker 15 (58:17):
I have seen at work.
Speaker 16 (58:19):
It felt like a time for a desperate time to
try something major here, to try to rattle the cage,
maybe wake this thing up and inspire some sort of
heater here down the stretch. I mean, Scott's are is
not I don't even know if he deserves the majority
of the blame for all of this. He certainly doesn't
(58:40):
deserve all of the blame. But you know, as I
said before, did you get the most out of the team.
I don't think you have gotten the most out of
the talent that you've had this year. And I know
people might devend Scott a little bit today or claim
somebody else in the organization should have been acted first.
But I don't think any of us consider and say,
(59:01):
Scott's been doing a great job this year. So even
though I don't go after jobs either, it's sort of
to me made sense this move right now, no later,
no earlier. Let him finish the road trip, get home.
You owe him that, and then today going forward, you
just try to strike magic here.
Speaker 2 (59:21):
Chuck Powell is our morning host six to ten here
on kJ are internaced with you, so they'll call me
casino today again that we'll just reset it. Because it
has not been confirmed by any beat writers here or
anybody outside of Ken Rosenthal from the Athletic, but Rosenthal
reporting that the Mariners are getting rid of Scott's service
and naming Dan Wilson the infrom manager. If there are
(59:42):
some baseball pundits, including those that had show a Otani
signing with the Blue Jays, it might be on the
radio stations at town. I probably would not be doing
as much with this today, but I think considering Ken
Rosenthal published a piece yesterday morning in the Athletic with
quotes from Jerry to Poto when he wouldn't talk to
any other media members. I kind of think his source
might be Okay, he might this one might be a
(01:00:04):
pretty good one. That's pretty that's pretty locked in. You've
been here a long time now, Chuck, And so you
know what with all the rest of us know that
that people get frustrated with, and that is the leaning
into the little bit of fleeting success you've had with
this organization over the years. Ninety five oh one, stuff
like that. And here's the thing, like, this is inevitable,
(01:00:26):
and I don't know if it's fair or not. I'm
really curious what your opinion is. Is it fair or
not that people for for lack of a better word, Oh,
we're just going to go talk about ninety five again,
hire a guy with no managerial experience because he was
part of that team hot Dogs from Heaven for everyone
Away we go and Dan Wilson.
Speaker 16 (01:00:44):
I don't think that's what this is. I know, I looked.
I think the organization you understand where that comes from.
Speaker 4 (01:00:50):
I think the.
Speaker 15 (01:00:50):
Organization is guilty of a lot of that stuff.
Speaker 16 (01:00:53):
Okay, So I mean it's pretty obvious they lean really
heavily on that. But I think this one is how
do we get outside of our own locker room, and
are we going to be able at this point to
attract some candidate outside that would have to come in
here and pick it up on the run. To me,
(01:01:15):
it's a it's a decent little marriage. I think I
would have gone after Mark de Rosa, I really do,
and I would have thought just just to get some
outside eyes, gets get some outside thinking. And he's certainly
a people person. He's one of the great people person
people and people people in in baseball history. For goodness sake,
(01:01:36):
I would have done that. But I think this is
a little bit outside the organization without being completely foreign
to the product. I mean, Kyle Rawley loves the guy,
and that's a good place to start, is you know,
your captain loves Dan Wilson and probably is pretty happy right.
Speaker 15 (01:01:55):
Now that Dan Wilson is going to take over the ship.
Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
Sorosa's working for him right now, is that right?
Speaker 4 (01:02:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:02:03):
So, with with Wilson coming in there and maybe Edgar
as well, what do they have to work with? Like
I asked this to Chris and Nathan a little while ago,
like what do they have to work with? Because it
really looks right now Bullpen is definitely not what it
was last season, looks fatigued. When Gilbert gives up six
earned runs, that's a little frightening along the way as well.
(01:02:27):
What do these guys have, Like, We'll start with the
pitching in the bullpen. We'll get to hitting in a second,
but what do they have to work with with that
pitching staff? We know the rotation's good, great, maybe elite,
whatever you want to call. It doesn't feel like it's
as deep with that bullpen, though, What does he have
to work with there?
Speaker 16 (01:02:39):
Well, I mean it just starts with and this goes
for those that believe that you know, everything is lost.
I mean, this starting rotation is the best in the
sport and should be for a couple more years, few
more years, because you've got young, controllable, affordable pitching right now,
and so it starts there. That's a great place to
start now and for the future. We have the best
(01:03:00):
starting rotation in the entire game. And then you go
to the bullpen and I know it's been a couple
of rough outings for Munnos and Garcia.
Speaker 15 (01:03:10):
I believe in those guys. So that's more than what
you had a month ago.
Speaker 16 (01:03:16):
And then you got to just kind of bob and
weave your way through those sixth and seventh inning innings.
That Unfortunately, as good as the starting pitching has been,
not very efficient with their pitches.
Speaker 15 (01:03:30):
We've had way too many five.
Speaker 16 (01:03:32):
Inning outings four inning outing from Bryce Miller earlier this week,
six inning outings. I mean, I'm not gonna blame anything
on the starting pitching, but it would help if they
were a little more efficient, could get six to seven
innings so you don't have to rely so heavily on
the bullpen. But I think there are two believable pieces there,
and then you're just gonna have to bob and weave
(01:03:53):
through the rest. But more than anything, you guess got
to start hitting the baseball. It would be nice to
have a couple, you know, seven to two finals so
you don't have to worry about your bullpen blowing it.
Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
It's funny last week, right, they were never in a
position except for what Thursday he used Boon Yo's and
and you know it was either they got to blow
out win on Sunday or they were getting their teeth
kicked in by the Pirates of the Tigers. And yeah,
so it was kind of a weird bullpen week. And
then this week. It just kind of fell apart, but offensively.
You guys were talking about this this morning. I'll let
you kind of tell people, you know, because there's a
(01:04:23):
lot of questions about the offense, and Steven susa was
on in fact, do we have that, jefs I want
to play this. We got like a one minute cup
from your conversation with Steven Susan this morning. Can we
play this real quick? That was great?
Speaker 17 (01:04:34):
Yes, I got it.
Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
Let's fire away.
Speaker 9 (01:04:36):
Jerry's got a history of firing the hitting coach. He
fired Mickey Mickey Thatcher in and in Anaheim when they
had a disagreement, and he fired Brent Brown, he firedim
or Tim Laker. He didn't want to resign him. So
there's something off with For all the things that Jerry
does well in developing pitching and drafting pitching and finding
these arms, he doesn't understand hitting or how to communicate hitting,
(01:05:01):
or how to hire guys that can communicate it. And
he's unwilling to kind of move off that and say,
you know what, I don't know how to do this.
I'm gonna give it to somebody who does and really
trust him, right, And I think that's Jerry's kind of
pitfall in this situation is not really being able to
bring in guys that can do that and communicate it
and get his hands off of it. Because I think
(01:05:22):
that you're totally right, Buck, that when you get to
the big league level there's not a lot that goes on,
but to be able to get these guys to feel,
you know, better in the box or air at their peak,
and they just don't do that. Right Like we saw
Kioskar Hername is just playing the best he's ever played
in LA. Why is that it's just a year remove
from Seattle that he was the worst. I mean, it's
not like mediocre to okay, it's like, okay, this is
(01:05:46):
his worst career in Seattle, worst year, and then his
best year in LA. And that consistently happens in LA,
where those guys go there and get better. So why
can't the Marionis do that, Chuck?
Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
Why can't they?
Speaker 16 (01:05:57):
Well, yeah, this is kind of the information that Bucky
and I have been fishing for all year long, but
there's no way that you can go with it because
you're not there to know what's happening. And frankly, people
on the team and in the organization aren't going to
rat out any sort of the stuff that's going on
behind the scenes. So we've been trying to figure out
(01:06:18):
there's some disconnect, there's something wrong with the organization. I
just heard your caller on the way back. They're wrong, caller.
This This team is not without talent. This team had
enough offensive talent this year put together by Justin and
Jerry to be at least adequate, if not good offensively.
(01:06:39):
There is no way that this should be the worst
offense in baseball. And I think you could argue that
it has been all season long. So what is happening?
And this goes back now a number of years. Jesse
Winker came here a nine hundred ops guy, and he
shows up here can't hit. Colton Wong ten years career
(01:07:00):
of being good to very good and coming off a
very good season with the Milwaukee Brewers, one of his
more productive ones, and he's the worst player in baseball
for US, and then this year, and then Tao Hernandez
and I don't think he was terrible last year, but
he wasn't as good as he was before, and he's
not as good. He wasn't as good as he is
(01:07:21):
now and so and then and then this year Polonko
and Garver. Polonko is Anders will tell you. He's somebody
that I've been stumping for for a couple of years.
He's a line drive machine. He averages forty doubles a
year when he's healthy. He has eight doubles right now,
I mean eight. I know Mitch Garver hit nine hundred
ops last year and would have been the World Series
(01:07:42):
MVP if not for Corey Seeger playing mister Universe and
he gets here and is hitting one sixty five. There
is some disconnect when a Mariner passes his physical and
then gets the instruction from the higher ups on how
we approach off and they turn into turns and I
(01:08:03):
don't know why that happens, and that is the issue.
And if not for that, we would be talking about
our third straight playoff appearance, and how are we going
to stack up our starting rotation for the playoffs to
make a run at the World Series.
Speaker 15 (01:08:17):
So Bucky and I have.
Speaker 16 (01:08:18):
Been going out of our minds trying to figure out
what on earth where's the disconnect? And then Steven Suza
comes on this morning and says, Jerry's hands are all
over it.
Speaker 15 (01:08:28):
He doesn't like.
Speaker 16 (01:08:29):
People to fight back against him. He wants to be
in charge of everything. Jerry Depoto has some great attributes.
For those of you that want him out of here,
be careful what you wish for, because that guy is
a There's some genius traits to this guy. I mean,
the starting pitching that he developed, he drafted and then
(01:08:51):
developed here is remarkable. He has rebuilt the farm system
into the number one farm system twice in six years,
got it to number one, then brought those guys to
the majors, broke the playoff trout. They're the guys that
are sitting before us right now that should be winning
at least ninety games this year, and in the meantime
has rebuilt the farm system again to number one status.
(01:09:13):
I mean, that's an unheard of to do that. But
on the flip side, to feed those people that want
Jerry out, there might be and I've heard rumblings a
toxicity in this organization that starts with him and trickles down.
And if that exists, then he's got to be somebody
to consider to put on the chopping block this offseason.
(01:09:34):
And if he does not wise up and realize that
offense is our problem and maybe that's not my area
of expertise. And like a football head coach who's a
defensive minded genius who just hands the offense.
Speaker 15 (01:09:49):
Over to some expert, that's what he needs to do.
Speaker 16 (01:09:54):
Get the f out of the way, and we'll start
making the playoffs every damn year and we'll win World
Series for goodness sake.
Speaker 2 (01:10:02):
Well, Chuck, he's at nine years and everything you said
about Billy and the roster, yeah, I mean, it's it's
one of those mind blogs I look at. I'll use
the cracking for example. There's no way Maddy Benier should
have gone fifty six games last season without having a
point he did. There's no way Andre Berekowski should be
as awful as he was offensively, yet he was. They
made a change, and that was one hundred percent coaching.
(01:10:23):
They made a change in this case what SUSA said,
what you're saying, Jerry can put it together, can put
the talent there on the field, it doesn't happen, and
not just the manager's fault. It sounds like inherently there's
a systematic issue with Jerry Depoto. If they don't make
the playoffs, should he keep his job?
Speaker 16 (01:10:39):
I think it has to be evaluated. I would like
here's what I would like, because I do think he
has some great qualities about him as a baseball executive,
and he's got some real big holes. He can continue
to be weird, that's fine, and he can continue to
not be liked by his clubhouse, that's fine. I don't care.
(01:11:01):
He needs to keep his hands off of the offense.
He needs to bring in a brain trust that knows
how to not only come up with an offensive philosophy,
that knows how to instruct it.
Speaker 15 (01:11:12):
And then he needs to get out of the way.
Speaker 16 (01:11:14):
That's the only thing standing in the way of Mariner
Baseball being a perennial playoff team, and for that matter,
because you have the pitching a perennial World Series candidate.
This roster that they put together is not a bad roster.
It should be an adequate offense with a phenomenal starting rotation,
and that should be more than enough to get into
(01:11:35):
the playoffs this year, next year, the year after that.
But we have to solve this mystery of why this
offense stinks so badly and especially at the beginning of
the year, year after year, and if it's him, he
either gets out of the way, or we put him
in a dark van and drive him somewhere.
Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
Chuck paltimorrow will be breaking down the BMW Golf Championship
with the FedEx Series. That's about all he'll talk about tomorrow,
So tuned in six to ten AM and that's what
you'll hear. No, obviously you want to get all reaction
tomorrow with Chuck and Bucky and Ashtonborrow Warnick. Thanks Buddy,
I appreciate you coming on of us. There you go out,
check Pal. We'll take a break, come back. We'll hear
more of your thoughts from the voice text line. Coming
up next.
Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
Live from the R and R Foundation Specialist broadcast studio.
Speaker 15 (01:12:22):
Back to Ian Furnance.
Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
Power Advice, Seattle's closest sports book, snowp Call me Casino
on Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ R FM.
Speaker 18 (01:12:34):
The Mariners need some excitement. I'm not sure that Dan
Wilson is excitement, nor Edgar Martinez being excitement. Somebody that's
going to bring excitement would be somebody like Mark de Rosa,
who's been talked about a number of times. I also
(01:12:57):
agree that the Poto needs to go and the team
needs to be sold.
Speaker 2 (01:13:07):
Welcome back. Sorry, yes, I thought they were playing too. Oh,
I'm sorry. I'm like just scouring around trying to find
It's amazing that they haven't confirmed this.
Speaker 6 (01:13:19):
It's probably I've got a few more for you.
Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
Hold on, give me one more, give me one more
than we'll.
Speaker 19 (01:13:22):
Decason to replace Scott with Dan Wilson came in over
Jerry's head.
Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
What makes us so.
Speaker 19 (01:13:28):
Sure that Dan's just going to be a puppet for Jerry?
And could that potentially be why we haven't heard the
team confirm the announcement because Jerry's pissed off and he
doesn't want to lose control.
Speaker 20 (01:13:44):
I really hate seeing anyone lose their job, man, especially
in these times. But the way that the team was playing,
it was starting to affect how I was living and
how I was feeling, and how I was even doing
my job being frustrated. And so I will serviced the
best man. But it's a long time coming, and I'm
really not digging Julio I have since he's been here.
Speaker 8 (01:14:04):
Whoa at Yeah, that was a little like throwing at
the end.
Speaker 6 (01:14:08):
That was a bonus track.
Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
You know, there's man, there's so many things going on there,
like this is just there's so many layers to it,
and I I haven't looked at the text line yet.
I will here coming to the break in a second.
Speaker 6 (01:14:23):
Oh, are you sure you want to touch an electric fence?
Speaker 2 (01:14:27):
Probably not, but I'm gonna guess there's a lot of
people that disagree with Chuck and and his thoughts on
service and the roster, what have you. I'll trust Chuck
and his roster evaluation. I do maybe disagree with I
just I just unless they unless it's Wilson Hire ends
up being a hail merrit it's caught Michael Westbrook style
(01:14:49):
in the end zone from Cordell Stewart, and you get
a win, you get into the playoffs, and maybe you
do something in the playoffs. It's kind of fun like
win a couple series, get to the ALCS. Unless that happens,
I think, I think what you have to I honestly,
because you're not going to sell the team. The team's
not getting sold, so I think you have to. I
(01:15:09):
think it's like, hey, Jerry, you built us, you got
us to this point. Now we got to find somebody
to take the next step. The problem is, I don't
think any of us trust that ownership group to find
the person to take the next step.
Speaker 17 (01:15:17):
Well, yeah, the right person. Okay.
Speaker 6 (01:15:19):
You know what this.
Speaker 8 (01:15:20):
Reminds me of is because I worked the All Star
Futures Game last year. Yeah, and you know who was
on that staff, Jan Wilson and who else was Edgar Martinez.
Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
Yeah. But they were just on the figureheads, right because
it was in Seattle's that's the reason they were there.
Speaker 6 (01:15:34):
I know, But I'm just saying that's what it reminds
me of.
Speaker 2 (01:15:37):
Are they figureheads?
Speaker 6 (01:15:38):
Like you know, they were coaching the coach at but do.
Speaker 2 (01:15:42):
You think that like their figureheads though? Because it was
like like this year it was in Houston.
Speaker 8 (01:15:47):
Right, oh right, No, I'm just saying when it was
here in Seattle, it reminds me of the Futures Game.
They're people that will be there not to you know,
make the big decisions and everything, but to make the
players feel good and encourage them.
Speaker 4 (01:16:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:16:01):
No, I get that. I just I think the optics
of it. Listen, there's people that have been marrin Or
fans for five decades, for almost fifty years, or three
decades or four decades, and I'm gonna say I'm gonna
speak as one of those right now, I can have
really knowledgeable baseball people like Chuck and others tell me
that it's a good move. And Dan Wilson's fine, he's
(01:16:22):
better than actor would have been, or Negron or whoever
else I'm gonna I'm just gonna speak for a lot
of people. None of us are buying it. It feels
like hot dogs from heaven. That's exactly what it feels like.
Proove us wrong.
Speaker 8 (01:16:34):
That's what the majority of people who have given us
voice tests.
Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
They're done. They're done. They're done with hot dogs from
heaving and bobbleheads. They want to win a dare in seats. Yes, yeah,
all right, we'll take a break, come back. We'll do
Oh by the way, unofficial start for the weekend is
coming up. We're gonna do well. We're gonna get shorter,
a shorter version with Funston today, and then we're gonna
spend a ton of time starting at two twenty hearing
your voices on the talkbacks today. Still have time to
(01:16:58):
get some in. We'll read some text. We're gonn to
go like twenty plus minutes of what you have to
say today after the unofficial start of the weekend with
Fundsta next.
Speaker 1 (01:17:06):
Now from the Star rentals Sports to us your ninety
three point three KJRFM.
Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
Sports headlines headlines brought to you Bye Buddy's good as
a glass. Ryan Divish confirming the Ken rosen Thal from
the Athletic report a little about four hours ago that
Scott Service is going to be fired or has been
fired as a manorans manager Dan Wilson taking over. More
on that coming up in a moment. Managers lost yesterday,
got swept by the Dodgers. Day off today. San Francisco
(01:17:32):
starts tomorrow, presumably with Dan Wilson in the dugout as
the manager. Yay. Next up, Seahawks. They have made a trade.
Michael Jackson, farmer starting quarterback for them two years ago,
started seventeen games backup now traded to Carolina for the
linebacker Michael Barrett, seventh round pick, rookie out of Michigan.
That's all we need, because ladies and gentlemen, it's time
to start the weekend right down now, not.
Speaker 4 (01:17:54):
Just right on.
Speaker 10 (01:17:55):
There's a long past near side.
Speaker 1 (01:17:56):
Be's the leading face of fantasy sports. No you can't
see him, trust us. It's time for Ian's weekly visit
with the Athletics. Brendan Funston all the way back to
the house, brought to you by Zeke's Pizza, homegrown in
the Northwest, on your home for the NFL.
Speaker 19 (01:18:14):
Not buried in the backfield.
Speaker 1 (01:18:16):
Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FL got a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (01:18:21):
No, do we need the weekend to be upon us
right now? People? Huh? Right now? We need the weekend
to start. If you're just joining us again at Peters
Dan Wilson's taking over for Scott's service as the Maris
manager coming up in two twenty today, we'll get all
of your reaction talkbacks at the iHeartRadio app. Got a
ton of those texts, will look at as well. We'll
spend a good twenty plus minutes with you and your
thoughts today Softy at three o'clock. He's got both Brett
(01:18:43):
Boone and uh, who's the other one? Oh, Jeff Nelson
on a show coming up later on today starting at
three o'clock. So before we get to that, I'm at
the stack Clamba Casino. See How's closest casino beat the points
spread Piskin challenges here you can buy in for two
hundred and five hundred dollars more on that. Before the
show is over. But Funston's here shorter segment today because
of the breaking news. But we didn't want this to go.
(01:19:04):
We got to talk quarterbacks. Funston, how are you?
Speaker 17 (01:19:07):
I'm doing good man.
Speaker 21 (01:19:07):
I was just out at rembling your farms at a
concert last night. We stayed the night and then bugging
home this morning, and just crazy Mariners fire a manager
and the Seahawks make a trade.
Speaker 17 (01:19:17):
I was like, I was checked out for half a day.
Speaker 2 (01:19:19):
And then things all hell's breaking loose, Buddy, All hell's
breaking loose at that point in time. All right, let's
talk quarterbacks this week and then next week. What we'll
do is borrowing more breaking news. Hopefully not next week.
We'll get interactive as people get really you know, majority
of drafts for those you know, like us that aren't
in the business on like Funds News had like fifty
drafts already. The majority of us have our drafts next week,
(01:19:43):
next weekend Labor Day, et cetera. So we'll get to
a lot of questions that you guys will have next
week for funds, and so no questions from you today.
Spend just a quick segment talking about quarterbacks. Let's start
first with quarterback philosophy, and I'm guessing it's kind of
split into two categories, right, Brandon. One is if you're
playing in a normal, you know, regular one quarterback league,
(01:20:05):
or two if you're playing in a super flex league.
Speaker 21 (01:20:08):
Yeah, it's absolutely that's what you have to go in
knowing if you're in a single quarterback league, like in
a typical twelve team league, you know, unless you unless
you're getting a nice value on Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts,
and I would say that would be like a late second,
early third if you just you know, you want to,
like with kind of picking up the turn and you
want to you know, throw a.
Speaker 2 (01:20:29):
Quarterback in there.
Speaker 17 (01:20:30):
Because they've they've lasted that far. I think that's fair.
Speaker 21 (01:20:33):
But once you get past those top few, and I'd
throw Lamar Jackson, even pat Patrick Mahomes and there. If
if you're out of the top four, I think you're
just waiting and waiting and waiting, because the guy that
you can get at twelve, you know, has a decent
chance to be the guy that you can get as
a fifth or sixth. You know, the same production as
a guy you might take us a fifth or six quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:20:52):
So but you know, flip it.
Speaker 21 (01:20:54):
As a super flex league, you might see five quarterbacks
drafted in the first five picks, because that's you know,
you're starting to get it. Worry about the scarcity of
getting two viable quarterbacks. Everyy worries about that, So make
sure they get their first one right away and then
they can, you know, look at the next few rounds
to get their second one.
Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
If you are in a super flex league, how many
viable quarterbacks really are in the NFL?
Speaker 17 (01:21:17):
Like to take as a as a first round pick?
Speaker 2 (01:21:20):
No, like overall, like because like if you get pick
number twenty or pick number fifteen or whatever, it is
like if.
Speaker 17 (01:21:26):
Yeah, like where is where?
Speaker 2 (01:21:29):
Where? Where is you know? Where does Gardner Minshew I
love you, go Koog's gotta love you. But okay, like
what does Gardner Minshew fit in the mix? Like you
don't want to if you can have two quarterbacks, you
don't want to have a quarterback that could get benched.
You know, is it going to be you know, who
knows what he's going to be? So like, is it
is it? Are there twenty four quarterbacks really for a
super flex league? What's that number?
Speaker 17 (01:21:50):
I think that's fair? I think you start.
Speaker 21 (01:21:52):
My twenty fourth ranked quarterback is Derek Carr. And interestingly enough,
he's played a decade in the league and he's ever
been worse than twenty at that quarterback in a season.
And for fantasy it doesn't seem like that, but that's
been the case. So like as much as we kind
of like, you know, have a distaste, Will kind of
maybe look for Derek Carr. He's always brings you top
(01:22:13):
twenty numbers.
Speaker 17 (01:22:14):
But I think that's.
Speaker 21 (01:22:14):
Kind of like where the line of demarcation is as
far as tears go. I have Will Levis from Tennessee next,
and he might actually he's a sleeper because they're.
Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
Gonna throw the ball at on this year in Tennessee.
Speaker 21 (01:22:25):
They're not gonna be the Derek Henry Lette offense anymore.
But then you start getting Russell Wilson, Daniel Jones or
have you know, question marks around whether they're any good anymore,
and you know whether Justin Fields might take over in
Pittsburgh and Bryce Young had a rough year as a
rookie last year. You start looking, you know, then you
get into the rookies that you you know, bow Nick
(01:22:47):
and guys like that. So I think it's somewhere around
twenty four twenty the Gino Smith, Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
Derek Carr.
Speaker 21 (01:22:53):
That's kind of the last of like the second quarterback
in the super flex league that you would want to
have as your second guy, and that would be kind
of like iffy even at that point.
Speaker 2 (01:23:02):
All right, top guy I believe you have is Josh Allen,
Is that right?
Speaker 17 (01:23:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 21 (01:23:08):
All the top guys are gonna have an element of
being able to bring duality in terms of rushing. And
Josh Allen had fifteen rushing touchdowns last year and Jalen
Hurts is right there with him. He had fifteen rushing touchdowns.
And that's why you have to put Lamar Jackson in
the top four because they had eight hundred rushing yards
and five rushing TVs. Just add that, it's just gravy
on top of whatever they do with passers.
Speaker 2 (01:23:28):
Does Jalen Hurts and the tush push does that factor
in it all? In fantasy football? It feels like it would.
Speaker 17 (01:23:34):
It's unstoppable.
Speaker 21 (01:23:36):
And with Saquon Barkie there, I don't think you can
just assume there they will probably give him a few
of those goal line carries.
Speaker 17 (01:23:43):
But when you're on the one yard line.
Speaker 21 (01:23:44):
There's not a better play for getting a yard in
football than Phillies tush push.
Speaker 2 (01:23:48):
I mean, so why would you go away from that?
Who are some wild wildcard quarterbacks? And let's just pretend
like I feel like there's a lot more people doing
super flex now, So who are some wildcards? And where
do you put the rookies in? Are those guys wildcards?
Speaker 4 (01:24:02):
You guys?
Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
Are those some sleepers? Like where would you look at
the rookie class?
Speaker 21 (01:24:06):
Jaden Daniels is going ahead of Caleb Williams among the rookies,
and he's going as like a back end of the
QB one class, like so top twelve, and it's basically
because of the Lamar Jackson potential of rushing, like he
could legitimately be the leading quarterback in terms of rushing
yards this year. He's expected to be up there with
(01:24:27):
Lamar Jackson. So so he's a wildcard. How much can
you bring to the passing equation? And you know, I
think you can look at Justin Herbert being a little
bit of a wildcard. Some people will have him down
almost to like number twenty because it's a Harbaugh offense
where they think that you know they're going to completely
go run heavy, but you have one of the best
(01:24:47):
arm talents in the league.
Speaker 17 (01:24:48):
I'd be crazy to not use that.
Speaker 21 (01:24:50):
So he might be getting discounted too much because of
the Harbaugh presence. So there is a you know, there's
two schools of thought there. I think Trevor Lawrence he
started to show some things last year a lot better
without urban Meyer there, and now they you know, they've
kind of padded their their passing attack with with some
new guys there, So he could be interesting. I think
(01:25:11):
he has a you know, ah, you know, the difference
between a ceiling and the floor is a decent amount.
And then I would throw in Kirk Cousins in Atlanta
and even Deshaun Watson.
Speaker 2 (01:25:20):
What are we gonna see from him?
Speaker 21 (01:25:21):
Is he ever gonna show us anything like what he
was in Houston when he was a top five fantasy quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:25:26):
Where do you saw Anthony Richardson in there?
Speaker 21 (01:25:28):
Brandon, Yeah, he's uh, he's my number five quarterback, and
it's it's because of you know, the even in the
four games he played last year, you could see there's
like Cam Newton level rushing potential, a big quarterback like
that with probably you know, early Cam passing upside. Cam
wasn't always a terrible thrower. He had the shoulder injury
(01:25:50):
and then you know, then kind of things went downhill
from there. But there's a lot of a lot of
the Cam Newton, early Cam Newton and Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 2 (01:25:57):
I think I'm very curious about two of the guys
before I let you go, because I think there and
this probably depends on again super flex or not, so
you can address both. Let me start first with Jordan Love.
Where does he fit in?
Speaker 21 (01:26:08):
Yeah, he's my number six quarterback because he does run
a little bit. I think he had four rushing touchdowns
in like two hundred and fifty rushing yards. And you know,
he add that on top of the fact that he
looked terrible for the first half of the season and
I thought, oh, this guy's he's just not gonna make it,
and then he completely just three sixty changed my mind
with the way he looked in the second half of
the season, especially what he was able to do in
(01:26:30):
the postseason when you know, on the toughest stage. So
he's got a great stable of receivers and you know,
I think he has a great chance when you add
the passing and the rushing combo of being a top
level fancy quarterback this year.
Speaker 2 (01:26:45):
And the other guy just I'm fascinated by j Strod.
Do you I think you've got him like number five
or six or something like that.
Speaker 17 (01:26:52):
He's right after Jordan Love. He's my number seven.
Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
Brock Purty, who just I mean, let's be honest. He's
got kind of a noodle arm, but he's got these
massive weapons around him, right he does.
Speaker 21 (01:27:03):
We'll see if he has Brandon Ayuk or not, though
it's still something we're waiting to see, and.
Speaker 17 (01:27:07):
That could that could hurt him a little bit. I
have a number thirteen.
Speaker 21 (01:27:09):
I just, man, I just think he's I'm impressed with
his you know, moxie and his accuracy, but you're right,
he has a noodle arm, and I think he's being
so propped up by the Kyle Shanahan system that I
think could make most anybody that's a starter in the
NFL right now quarterback be that much better, you know,
be a borderline quarterback one in fantasy. So I you know,
(01:27:32):
credit to Brock and like, you know, we shouldn't expect
him not to be, you know, pushing the top ten
of fansy quarterbacks like he did last year. But I
do think that there's some some puppetry when you look
at the Shanahan system that's certainly helping him out.
Speaker 2 (01:27:47):
Wasn't that Like people will look at that and go, oh,
look what you did last year, and maybe he'll get overdrafted.
Speaker 17 (01:27:52):
Yeah, I think so. I wouldn't want him.
Speaker 21 (01:27:54):
Like, if I'm taking brock Perty, I'm also taking like
Jared Goff or like another really solid kind of like
top fifteen fantasy quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:28:02):
I don't know that.
Speaker 17 (01:28:04):
I'm just like, oh, I got brock Party.
Speaker 2 (01:28:05):
I'm good.
Speaker 21 (01:28:06):
There's something in the back of my mind. It's like
I want a little insurance if I have brock Party.
Speaker 2 (01:28:11):
All right, my friend. For people to want to get
more information, again, there's no better place than the Athletic.
What you guys have going on for fantasy football, it's
a must must get, Unlike a magazine that's dated and
everything else. Tell people what we got on the Athletic
right now.
Speaker 21 (01:28:22):
Yeah, we're just putting out a bunch of columns right now.
We put on the second round of our staff sleepers
and some really good pieces this week for you know,
the fantasy manager to check out. But we have a
ton of stuff that's all in our draft kit. You
mentioned the projections and things like that, and the rankings,
so yeah, just check it out the Athletic Fancy Football.
Speaker 17 (01:28:42):
There's gonna be something there that I'm sure you'll enjoy.
Speaker 2 (01:28:45):
You're the best, buddy. Next week we take listener questions,
might even take phone calls for the first time this year.
Ah ah, A little nervous about that. We'll do that
next week. Have a great week, my friend. Thanks all right,
sounds good. Take care of guys, bradon funds and short
sagment this week because we want to hear from you.
Scott Service is out as the managers manager You're reaction
coming up.
Speaker 1 (01:29:04):
Next live from the R and R Foundation Specialists Broadcast studio.
Back to Ian Fernetz, Power Advice, Seattle's closest sportsbook, snowp
call me Casino on Sports Radio ninety three point three
KJR FM.
Speaker 13 (01:29:22):
Ian and your boy Nelson Here. The issue is Jerry Depoto.
I am tired of people blaming everything but Jerry, even
your boy Chuck, blaming everything but Jerry. Jerry has had
one top ten offense in nine years in terms of
ops and runs, and that was the twenty sixteen offense
and offense built by Jacks Forenziic. I can go on,
(01:29:45):
but your little thing only gives me thirty seconds.
Speaker 18 (01:29:48):
It is Jerry Depoto.
Speaker 22 (01:29:50):
You guys played my call last week when I said
that the problem is not the players. The players are
plenty talented. It's the management that is keeping. Something's wrong
with me management, and it needs to change. And I
just heard Chuck say it, and I couldn't agree more
with him.
Speaker 23 (01:30:07):
The Mariners have had nine managers since two thousand and two,
and what do they have to show for it. Kind
of curious how that stacks up against the rest of
the MLB when it comes to managers over that same spin,
because I imagine it's pretty high, but I imagine the other teams.
Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
Have gotten a lot more out of it.
Speaker 23 (01:30:23):
What has been the consistent thing that whole time ownership,
they didn't spend after the Mariners went to the playoffs
and they basically cut payroll last year, Let's see, it's.
Speaker 2 (01:30:34):
Just more of the same, more of the same. Oh,
that's just a handful. We got a lot more to
get to. But it'll me comment on a couple of
weeks let's just go through this. This Occurtsey to my
buddy Gary Doherty, former Seattle Times. Right, I kind of
considered Seattle sports historian. Gary does a great job worked
down at the Emerald Downs now does stuff with Joe
with you down there. And Gary wrote sent this to
(01:30:54):
me via the old ex app says most and this
is the Ala Mariner's managers. Loupanella managed ten years, eight
hundred and forty win, seven hundred eleven losses. And we
all know that he went to every playoff. He's the
only guy to take him to the playoffs except four.
The second longest tenured manager, Scott servis eight and three
(01:31:16):
and a quarter of years, so basically almost nine. He
went to one playoff series or one playoffs in his
eight full seasons. And then we get down to the
next guys. Darryl Johnson four years, Jim Lefever three years,
Eric Wedge three years. They just cycle through these guys.
(01:31:38):
It's remarkable.
Speaker 8 (01:31:38):
I've been here for six of them.
Speaker 2 (01:31:42):
Yeah, yeah, because and you've only been here I say
only been and one was like a halfy So you've
been here through since on nine, right, yep?
Speaker 8 (01:31:49):
I think it's six, might be five if you count
the half, I'll look it up.
Speaker 2 (01:31:55):
Yeah, let's well old comment on the other side, let's
get some more texting, you get, we get a ton
of those. Let's go yep.
Speaker 4 (01:32:03):
Today is just another joke.
Speaker 2 (01:32:05):
GQ.
Speaker 12 (01:32:06):
Jerry atana are the two that need to go. Just
watch Service is gonna go to another team. They'll let
them coach how he wants to coach. Won the World Series.
Marin knows that keep going five hundred up for lucky
playoffs every thirty years. Just just a joke, guys, just
another day, another joke.
Speaker 2 (01:32:30):
Let me comment on Jerry real quick before we get
to how we have a bunch more right, Jess, Yes, okay,
all right. Here's the thing. This is why it's honestly,
it's a it's a great sports radio topic because there's
a lot there's a division here, and it's kind of
like you're taking two sides. One is, Hey, the Poto's
(01:32:53):
not the problem. He's built up a good, you know,
base of talent, not just pitching, but you know, chuck it.
Other sink that he's built up a good lineup as well.
They're just not performing. There's others that say, hey, look, man,
you've had nine years you've been to the playoffs one time.
Your offense is abysmal. Good hitters come here to die,
(01:33:15):
and you've got to get rid of Jerry. Both those
sides also agree on one thing, and that's that ownership's
a massive issue. But guys, it just doesn't even matter anymore.
I wish they would sell the team. I wish John
stant would sell the team. I wish they would just
absolutely clean house, top to bottom in the front office,
on the field, off the field, all the way through.
I think the best thing that happened in this organization,
(01:33:36):
the most forward thinking happened, the thing that happened in
this organization a long time is Katie Griggs. And she
decided to leave. Don't think for a second was because
of cool family.
Speaker 8 (01:33:45):
I mean respectful is what I think in saying that.
Speaker 2 (01:33:48):
But yeah, yeah, I you know, yeah, she's closer. She's
still playing right away from where she's from. You keep
people like that. You do whatever he can to keep
people like that, And they didn't. Old Boys Club, whatever
it is, I don't know. It just is. It's that.
But it's not going to change here. I am complaining
about it, telling you guys not to complain about it's
(01:34:08):
not going to change. Jerry and his baseball analytics team,
Scott and his team, and his the people that you
know are his coaches, and they've cycled through guys over
the years. It's it's time to change. Get to the playoffs,
do something in the playoffs. When I say get to
the playoffs, a sixth seed and a wild card in
(01:34:30):
a first round to exit, I don't know if that's
to me, that's not good enough. It just isn't. It's
frustrating being a Mariners fan. And maybe Dan Wilson will
be a great manager. Maybe Dan Wilson will turn this
thing around. Maybe he is really like Chuck Feels and
I think others may. Maybe he truly is the right
(01:34:51):
guy right now, right guy, right time outside the clubhouse.
Maybe it was better not to promote one of the
guys that has managerial experience, like the grinder or act
up there. Sure, maybe that'll maybe that works out. Time
will tell. I'm gonna say for me, for this one
person talking right now, the optics are really simple. Hiring
Dan Wilson was a nod of the cap to ninety
(01:35:13):
five and and one, and frankly, it feels like hot
dogs from heaven, simple as that. I hope I'm wrong.
Speaker 6 (01:35:21):
Great promotion, but not a great promotion.
Speaker 2 (01:35:24):
It's a bobblehead hot dogs from heaven. We're gonna play
eminem and not Louie Louie anymore. Whatever it is, that's
what it feels like. Hydro races raw raw rock, which
we got some text on that, but let's get some
more voice text. So get let's get through all these jests.
You tell me how many more we got.
Speaker 21 (01:35:40):
Ian The Mariners, their offensive philosophy is just.
Speaker 8 (01:35:46):
Yeah, bleep bleep bleep beep, beep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep,
bleep beep.
Speaker 11 (01:35:50):
It's like asking a It's like asking Tom Brady to
be a.
Speaker 2 (01:35:56):
Dual threat quarterback.
Speaker 17 (01:35:58):
That's what they're doing.
Speaker 2 (01:36:03):
Keep farm away, Jess.
Speaker 18 (01:36:07):
The Mariners need some excitement. I'm not sure that Dan
Wilson is excitement, nor Edgar Martinez being excitement. Somebody that's
going to bring excitement would be somebody like Mark de Rosa,
who's been talked about a number of times. I also
(01:36:30):
agree that the Poto needs to go and the team needs.
Speaker 2 (01:36:34):
To be sold. Let me read one real quick here
on the text line, Jess, I'm.
Speaker 6 (01:36:43):
Just saying you know, I'm switching beds back and forth.
Speaker 2 (01:36:46):
This fem the two of six Sea Auks and crack
and fired their coaches because they want to win. The
Mariners fired Scott's service because they want to make money
for the weekend home series. Is Dan Wilson stell tickets
this weekend? I don't know. I think they are. He
had some promotions and stuff going on.
Speaker 6 (01:37:02):
I mean there's always bobbleheads, T shirts and whatnot. But
I don't know.
Speaker 8 (01:37:06):
You know, the loudest people are the most passionate, but
some people just enjoy going to the ballpark and they'll
probably still show up.
Speaker 2 (01:37:12):
But my question is do they need to sell tickets
this week? Oh?
Speaker 8 (01:37:16):
I don't think so. No, I don't think. But maybe
for the remainder of the season.
Speaker 2 (01:37:21):
Yeah, well, I mean, if you're in contention, you should
sell tickets.
Speaker 6 (01:37:24):
You should.
Speaker 2 (01:37:25):
That should be that you would end up doing that.
Speaker 17 (01:37:27):
It would it.
Speaker 8 (01:37:27):
Would be nice to get the temperature of the peripheral
fan right now.
Speaker 6 (01:37:32):
But I don't think they'll listen to us fire away
keep going.
Speaker 24 (01:37:35):
All I know is that Seattle has new coaches and
Seahawks you dub football, you lob basketball, Crack and Mariners.
So obviously the Storm and Sounders better watch out. Women's
who to all little league teams, all minor league hockey teams, everybody,
(01:37:58):
New coaches for everybody.
Speaker 2 (01:38:01):
Well, okay, wait a second. Washington didn't want to have
a new football coach like.
Speaker 6 (01:38:07):
They had to fire him like they didn't want.
Speaker 2 (01:38:10):
They didn't want Kaylin to Boor to leave. So I'm
not sure if you're giving them credit for having a
new football coach. That's not what they wanted to do
basketball coach. They fired a guy that was a two
time Pack twelve Coach of the Year because they weren't winning.
Give them credit for that one d percent. But yeah,
they didn't want Taylor to Boor leave. Keep going. What
do we get? Ian?
Speaker 21 (01:38:29):
Every time I see any news about the Mariners or
see it, I just want one of those men in
black things to just erase my memory.
Speaker 6 (01:38:37):
I don't want nothing to do with them.
Speaker 17 (01:38:39):
Yep, that's it for me.
Speaker 2 (01:38:41):
I have a great day. Keep going.
Speaker 4 (01:38:44):
Es instant reaction to Scott Service being.
Speaker 19 (01:38:48):
Fired and Dan Wilson being hired as manager, interim manager whatever.
Speaker 5 (01:38:54):
I had to sit down and put a book over
my last Okay, I'm excited about this.
Speaker 3 (01:38:58):
I want Gerry to go to but that's probably not
gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (01:39:01):
For the offseason. But I think Dan Wilson can give
this team a shot in the arm and not.
Speaker 3 (01:39:06):
Too stupid managerial mistakes that Scott Service is so prone
to doing over the course of this season.
Speaker 2 (01:39:12):
Go ends all right, let's go go MS. What you
got a couple more jobs.
Speaker 25 (01:39:17):
I think the Poto is for sure gone unless we
go in a fifteen game heater and make this painfully
interesting at the end of the year. I like Scott.
I think he did what he needed to do. I
think he probably stuck around for a year too long.
And we need a manager with some fire, somebody who's
gonna shake our players when we are eight games into
a Lacklusser road trip showing no light. And maybe it's
(01:39:39):
a baseball thing, but I think we just need someone
with more omph behind them.
Speaker 26 (01:39:47):
This is awesome. We got Wilson as the head coach.
We'll have Bone as the first base coach. But if
Griffy is a third base coach, Edgar is a hitting coach,
and Ran he has a pitching coach ninety five all
over again.
Speaker 10 (01:40:04):
Who.
Speaker 6 (01:40:10):
He's got a potpourri of reaction.
Speaker 2 (01:40:13):
We're gonna play that. You know what they're gonna start doing.
They'll start playing the double before every game, right before
the lineups are announced. We'll play the double down the
left field line by Edgar, kind of like Oregon does
with Kenny Wheaton. Is gonna score an interception, the pick
six by Kenny Wheaton. That's that'll be m's a new thing.
They'll play that every game, all right, keep going.
Speaker 27 (01:40:31):
As a Mariners fan who is alive and remembers watching
the nineteen ninety five season, I am insulted by the
team's decision to make Dan Wilson the manager.
Speaker 7 (01:40:43):
That is a huge you to the fans.
Speaker 27 (01:40:47):
They think they're they're gonna do this, like, oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:40:49):
Come watch Dan Wilson.
Speaker 5 (01:40:51):
All right, but it is such a.
Speaker 27 (01:40:52):
Few to the fans because you're telling the fans, hey,
we don't care about winning baseball games.
Speaker 3 (01:40:57):
We care about nostalgia more.
Speaker 2 (01:41:03):
All right, a couple more.
Speaker 28 (01:41:05):
This move is strictly about getting and keeping butts in
the seats.
Speaker 5 (01:41:10):
This has nothing to do with winning on the field.
Speaker 28 (01:41:14):
All ownership cares about our hydroplane races, hidden ball, hat
tricks and hot dogs from heaven and tell the ownership changes.
Speaker 4 (01:41:25):
We're done, boys, We're done.
Speaker 3 (01:41:30):
Mm hmm, I agree, keep going hiring Damn Wilson.
Speaker 5 (01:41:34):
Just like polishing a turd. At the end of the day,
it's still a turd.
Speaker 2 (01:41:41):
Was that our last one? Chess that one? Alright?
Speaker 8 (01:41:44):
We will not end on turd, all right, Christian Brien
channeling my inner Bluto over you say over?
Speaker 4 (01:41:52):
Nothing is over until we decide it is. Was it
over when the.
Speaker 16 (01:41:57):
Germans bomb Pearl Harbor?
Speaker 9 (01:42:00):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:42:01):
And it ain't over now because when the going.
Speaker 10 (01:42:03):
Gets tough, does a tupe get going?
Speaker 2 (01:42:08):
Who's with me?
Speaker 7 (01:42:09):
He's in points.
Speaker 4 (01:42:12):
World series or bust?
Speaker 10 (01:42:14):
No World series? Fire mull.
Speaker 8 (01:42:17):
I think that was from yesterday, but it felt appropriate.
Speaker 2 (01:42:20):
Okay, By the way, it's sing along fireworks night tomorrow
at the ballpark.
Speaker 6 (01:42:25):
Well, how do you sing along to fireworks? No idea
boom boom boom, boom boom.
Speaker 2 (01:42:30):
To put the sound put the words up on the screen.
I don't know. Let's got a couple text in four nine,
four to five one telemar dude text line just when
it's game.
Speaker 15 (01:42:37):
Time Telly time two six.
Speaker 2 (01:42:41):
You got to have some countering views. You guys are ridiculous.
Dan Wilson is the anti service. Probably won't turn it
around in time for this season, but it could be
exactly what this team meets played for a great manager,
played for a long time in the league, wasn't a superstar,
but earned the respect of superstars. Knows how to play
small ball, knows how to handle a pitching stat hmm,
two six or forty five. You guys are always saying coaches,
(01:43:02):
managers don't do anything, don't change anything about players, But
how to explain that players suck when they come here
and do great when they leave. Latest examples Ty France
to look at this recent stats. We talked about this
with both Chris Nate and also with Chuck in the
one o'clock hour about that, and yeah and Steven SUSA,
who's on with Softy every month day. I do believe
it is also talked about it with the Morning Show today.
(01:43:26):
There is something about guys coming here and not playing
up to what they've normally played up to their career
stats take a huge dive when they come here. That
can't just be the manager. That has to be systemic,
that has to be throughout the organization. And I think
that's what we're looking at here four two five three
don't necessarily get the cynicism to gron and acted don't
(01:43:47):
do anything for me. I'd rather see a one month
job interview with Wilson se if he's worth a higer.
I don't like the photo as a person, but this
is a good legit team that is underachieved for years.
Manager makes the most sense to a six dan as
a placeholder. This had better be a precursor to firing Jerry.
He's the one main responsible person for this. Scott didn't
(01:44:07):
sign the Mitches or trade Geno for peanuts. Better yet,
ownership should sell. They're not committed to win. That's from
Anna climbs mountains? Hi, Annah, you climb mountains? Wow?
Speaker 6 (01:44:18):
Sounds fun?
Speaker 2 (01:44:20):
Four two five What an absolute joke. This just confirms
there's absolutely no hope for this ownership group to ever win.
They're completely clueless. I'll check in on this one two
oh six. Can you petition simply Seattle to create a
shirt depicting the Poto throwing turds instead of hot dogs
from the upper deck. That shirt would summarize how I feel.
Speaker 6 (01:44:41):
Oh man, do they come with parachutes?
Speaker 2 (01:44:42):
IRDs from heaven? Birds from Heaven from Heaven shirt.
Speaker 8 (01:44:50):
I like this one from the two five to three
is Ted Lasso available. It is a show that I'm
rebinging right now. So, uh, it is a very feel good.
So if you Aroner fans out there are feeling dejected
in any way today, yeah, turn on some lass so
three to six.
Speaker 2 (01:45:06):
Oh, Dan Wilson sales tickets. I personally wasn't gonna go
to another game this season. That changes today once it
becomes official, I'm going to least two more games. Going
to a game is a very long day for me
and my wife. Not easy to do or afford.
Speaker 8 (01:45:17):
Wow, I can't tell if that sarkasm are real. That
sounded real.
Speaker 2 (01:45:21):
I think it's real. Yeah, yeah, I think that might
be real. I was wondering this. Yeah, so many texts?
Uh yeah, you do me a favorite? Find one or
two more text jets. I'm gonna just say something you well,
you find another text two to rapuds. I thought it
was interesting because I believe it feels like and I
(01:45:42):
might be wrong, so correct me people if I'm wrong
on the text line. I don't think that Wilson has
been on the Tuesday TV broadcast for a while. It
feels like he's I know they're on the road a
couple of times, but maybe I'm wrong. So I wonder
if this has been in the works for a little
bit of time.
Speaker 8 (01:45:59):
I haven't seen him for a while, but I didn't
think he was a permanent fixture there either though.
Speaker 2 (01:46:05):
Yeah, I thought it was every Tuesday. But I could
be wrong. I could be wrong. Last night was listen that.
Do you have another text? I'll wrap things up. Give
me one more text.
Speaker 6 (01:46:14):
Okay, well, I'll give you two.
Speaker 8 (01:46:16):
One from the four two five, who clearly hasn't seen
Animal House. The Germans didn't bomb Pearl Harbor genius. No
matter when I quote that movie or play something from it,
watch that movie.
Speaker 6 (01:46:27):
You are deprived as a human being.
Speaker 2 (01:46:30):
If you haven't watched Animal House, that's that's that's got issues, man, Yes.
Speaker 8 (01:46:34):
Issues, Yes, okay, so watch it just and and also
you know, give you that. Uh, we do have another
one from Keith Miller. Actually, I wish the Moose got
the interim gig so they don't bring him back next year.
Speaker 2 (01:46:50):
He didn gets to the playoffs. He's probably coming back,
you know, FYI.
Speaker 8 (01:46:54):
I think he'll have some role, regardless of whether it's menagerial.
Speaker 6 (01:46:57):
I could see him with the team.
Speaker 2 (01:46:58):
I think there was talked before Service got hired of
hiring him too, if I'm not mistaken. Listen the the
we saw this last night. There was such a weird
vibe in that TV post game show. I was texting
jests and the Mollop guys.
Speaker 3 (01:47:13):
I was just.
Speaker 8 (01:47:13):
Surprised how quick it was, and I was like, well,
it's not even a getaway because they had today off.
Speaker 6 (01:47:18):
Yeah, it wasn't this quick trip.
Speaker 2 (01:47:20):
He still met with the media.
Speaker 6 (01:47:21):
He just wasn't carried on route.
Speaker 2 (01:47:24):
And they got out of that thing so quick, and
it was such an uncomfortable postgame show to watch. It's
like it's almost like everyone in the world knew that
he was getting fired except for Scott, and maybe Scott
I think I.
Speaker 6 (01:47:36):
Think he did. I maybe he didn't.
Speaker 17 (01:47:38):
I don't know.
Speaker 8 (01:47:39):
The only thing that I can say is that he
met with the team. And this was you know, tweeted
out by Ryan Divish who was there and had you
met with him with the media. But he took time
to meet with the team before his media session, which
changed up the timing.
Speaker 2 (01:47:55):
So but that it's not it was by the time
he started talking. It wasn't that much. They've had a
lot of games. Wish they've carried his news conference and it's.
Speaker 8 (01:48:01):
Been I agree, but I'm not blaming like it could
be on Root's fault, like they could have carried that.
They could have waited and you know, drawn out some time.
They didn't have a lot of highlights, don't like to
be honest.
Speaker 2 (01:48:15):
You could have actual analysis and actually.
Speaker 6 (01:48:17):
There there could have been something.
Speaker 8 (01:48:18):
I'm just saying that it wasn't service trying to avoid.
Speaker 2 (01:48:22):
Like I said, I tried to avoid Twitter, but like
I said last night on the Old X Saush Twitter, Yeah,
it sure felt like watching that show and not caring
him all that kind of stuff like it was happening
today and it did. Maybe just a coincidence, but it's
sure you start to kind of connect some dots. Anyway,
it doesn't matter, it's over
