Speaker 1 (00:00):
I want to welcome back in a beloved Kentucky and
he's been pumping music for a long time. He's a
great entertainer, a great friend.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
J D.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Shelburne ready to release his seventh studio album, JD.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Welcome back.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Hey, thanks for having me on with one on.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
It's all good with you, brother, you're in Nashville. I'm
guessing yes, sir, all right, did one of my friends
interview you this morning?
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Is that what I heard?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah? So I was on the WSM's Coffee Country Cody
and mister Bill Cody said you actually when he left
ATS in nineteen eighty five, you took his seat.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
That is curty to tell you.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
He said to say hello, he loved you, mischief and
always said he you always had a great, great friendship
with you. So I had a lot of great things
to say about you.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
He's a great Kentucky and he's like one over in
Nashville over these last so many decades. Yeah, he was
on this afternoon show and then he left, and then
they had a temporary fill with Jack Fox for a
while while I waited out a non compete. But it
was We've remained friends all these years and how's Cody doing?
How's he looks? He still looked like he's twenty years old.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
He does it like he's twenty years old. I asked him.
I said, now I want to ask him on the
air this morning, and I said, how many total on air?
How many? How long has it been between you both
combined with Bill, Cody Terry Myners. He said, I've been
on air for forty years. I don't know about Terry,
but he said I've at least got forty. So whatever
Terry's got, you put that together, that's a that's a
few decades and a half. I could say.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
I can remember this when I was started in Lexington.
It was nineteen seventy six, while I was going to UK,
So next year makes fifty for me on the air.
But a couple of years later, this kid, well we
didn't know he was a kid, came on WVLK and
Lexing did this big boys and we were like, who
is this? Then we found out he was about fifteen
years old. It was Cody.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
So wow, he's been at it. Good guy.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yeah, he's been add it a long time too. I'm
so glad that you've met all the best radio personalities JD.
Yeah me too, all right, tell me about this seventh
album you've put together.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Yeah, good, thanks for having me on. I got a
new record. I was out at midnight tonight. It's called
Raised on the Good Stuff. I'm really excited about it.
Eleven songs. I've written four of them. You know. A
few years ago I moved next door to a number
one hit songwriters written about ten number one him and I.
My name is Mark Nessler. We've collaborated a lot through
the years and he's got about half my record songs
he's written. And it's really excited about new music. You know.
(02:20):
I tried to put out a record over two years,
and I've worked on this thing, blood, sweat and tears
for the last year, and so to finally see it
come to fruition. It's gonna be on CD and vinyl
and of course on all music platforms. First ever record
on a vinyl. So really excited for all my fans
back home in Kentucky to support us and propel us
keep doing what they do.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Can we play it on a little sample?
Speaker 1 (02:39):
I'm gonna play a little sample love people here at
the beginning and first chorus through here. J D s
Sylburn New Music on news radio A forty w h
as hold of the hits.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
That's what we do. It don't belong on this tale game.
You gott a smile that can be on way.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
I can see you in a red dress, dem in
no city lights. You're shining rider than thagas.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
If I could, you know? Why would take this thing.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Out of four wheel drive and get us there tonight?
And I want to put you in a fast car. Baby,
stand down and go on a little crazy, lose these piles.
Find us a freeway. Hey, looking for a place to park.
(03:35):
Now come there's I'm looking far away. Somehow gets you
out of this beat up, big up trust go and
show you Mann song grow kind of Love.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
I love this song. I think it's fantastic.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
JD. Thank you man. The first time I heard this song,
I just exclude to it. I love an upbeat country
song that's kind of grabbed your attention before it hits
the first chorus and it's it's been great. It's gonna
be our show opener to our night on the way
up through twenty twenty six, so it's our first song
out of gates. One of my favorites that kind of loves.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Well, when you're in a recording studio, you just feel something.
When it's a song, you feel like you can turn
into a hit, don't you. You just have an inclination.
This one's the money.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
I really feel like that is true, you know, growing
up as a kid, you know, when CDs were kind
of first on the market. I remember my parents buying
me CDs at Christmas time and we'd have four or
five of them in are stocking, you know, growing up,
and I could always listen to that CD from front
to back and pick the hits. I don't know if
it was just something in my brain that could just
pick a good song, but it'd be I listened to
the CDs back in the nineties and I'd say that's
(04:46):
gonna be hitting sure enough six months later to be
a hit. You know, Alan Jackson put out a song,
it'd be a hit. And it's like, so I've kind
of that stuck with me through the recording days, picking
songs that I feel like, really gravitate to front to fans,
songs that are catching to help you build your build brand.
And so I think it's just I think it's just
something you're born with. I just got lucky, and I
feel like I just know I have a good ear
for a good song, and that's something I've just learned
(05:08):
through just listen to so many albums and recording songs
for the years.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
We'll speaking with J. D. Shelburne. His new album is
called Raised on the Good Stuff, actually released at midnight tonight. Yes, sir,
that's the plan for that and that song that we
just sampled, there's back Road kind of love.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
All right.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
So you're in Nashville, obviously, that is a that's the
place to be. It's the epicenter of country music for
the world, and so you must be making some connections
with various people you've met who've helped boost you along
and so forth.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Tell me about those experiences.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Yeah, I've met a lot of people through the years.
It's kind of helped me out, you know, people in
media like yourself. You know, other artists I've opened for,
you know, I've got to open for the Okreage Boys
and recorded with them and met Travis Tritt. He's helped,
you know, Randy Travis has helped, Steve Warner has helped.
You know, some of these icons that I grew up
loving have I've just played shows with and maybe they're
just kind of gravitated towards my story or just kind
(06:01):
of became an instant fan of just just kind of
catching up backstage in the green room. And you know,
publicity through the years have really helped me. I've hired
publicists through the years that have really helped kind of
grow my brand. And you know, publicists kind of put
you in the room with other, you know, stars that
have you know, they have had success that you know,
they try to help the folks on the upbringing like
myself as trying to break through, and so being in
(06:23):
the room and being being down here in Nashville has
really really helped me more than anything. Just being in
music city and surrounding myself with people. You just never
know who you're gonna meet. To be honest, I met
my new guitar player that's spent me the last six months.
I met him in publics in Nashville, of all plays
at the grocery store. So it's just kind of you
never know where you're going to meet somebody that can
help you along the way. And I've just been in
(06:44):
a lot of great pass throughout the course of my
career that's fantastic.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
So you put a bonus track on this album too,
Babies Talking Babies, I love I love that title.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Yeah, I wrote that song with Carson Chamberlain and Mark Knesler.
Between those too, they have written some massive hits. Of course.
Carson used to play still guitar for Keith Whitley. He
wrote Alan Jackson's first number one, and then Mark Knessler's
written several number ones for Luke Bryan and mcbrawl. So
just to be in the room with them that day,
I had to I had to put their song on
my record, just to have their name on my album
(07:17):
was It was really a great moment. Carson Chamline actually
just discovered Zach Topp, who's out you know, playing arenas now?
Speaker 1 (07:24):
So surround yourself with good people, they say, yeah, of
course that makes sense. Anyway, looks great. You've got these
ten tracks and a bonus track on here, and where
can people find it?
Speaker 3 (07:35):
At midnight tonight?
Speaker 2 (07:37):
So it's gonna be all music platforms, iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify,
We'll be able. We'll be linking that from our website.
We also still sell the vinyl and compact discs, so
I'll had those on my website. Next week. You know,
we're coming back home tomorrow night for our album album celebration.
Whatever we have left, we'll be on the website on
Monday morning. So all your listeners out there that that
supported me, maybe you've never heard our music before. Definitely
(08:00):
would love for you to check it out. My website's
jdshelburn dot com.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Yeah, aren't you. Joe's older than dirt this weekend too.
I love that place.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
I'm playing there Saturday. I've played there since the beginning
of time right, and we'll continue to go back. Chris
has supported me all these years and I try to
wig them my way in there when I can find
a spot. And sure enough, it's the night after my
album celebration. So really looking forward to Joe's Saturday night.
But I'll before that good.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
I'm glad you're going to be. That's a great spot.
I love that venue and the music sounds great. I'm
happy for you, brother, and I hope see you again
sometime soon. Thank you so much, you bet your fit
your support as always.
Speaker 3 (08:35):

Speaker 1 (08:35):

midnight tonight.
Speaker 3 (08:41):

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Shelburne is you can look him up on all of
his socials and find the music, find more info. That's
a Kentucky boy doing good things.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
