(00:00):
We'll get to that in just afew months. First, I got to
bring in Catherine Sutherland, who's visitingwith us. You're a teacher, aren't
you, Catherine, Yes, Iam. I'm very very impressed with you
for being a teacher. My momwas a teacher, My sisters have been
teachers, and so I know thepatience you must have most days. Yes,
(00:20):
I try. I'm in my twentyfifth year. I have two more
years and then I will be out. You're not counting the days to the
end. You wanted to go onfor forty years, don't you, Catherine?
Uh No, I'm good with Countyin the days at this point.
And are you at the Great MasiqueMiddle Is that right? Yes, sir,
(00:44):
I'm at Mezique Middle School. That'sa legendary place. I love me
some Mosique school. My kids arewonderful place. My kids are quite familiar
with that place. Yeah. So, I know you have a community health
fare you want to tell me about, so please do so. The Mesique
Community health Fare is happening this Fridayfrom six to seven thirty pm. It's
(01:06):
completely free, and this particular healthfare is unique in the sense that my
students have been working on Healthfare boothsfor the last three months and really designing
and researching for those three months offand on, and then this last month
they've been working on creating their designsand they will be running their own booths
(01:30):
from their own trifols. And thenthey've created activities for everybody to be able
to play to show them that they'velearned the information that they want them to
teach. And so this is astudent led and student ran health fare.
Four of my eighth graders are executiveleaders, and so they have contacted professional
(01:52):
businesses here in Louisville. Mission WellnessLouisville will be here giving out two home
person training valued at seventy five dollarsapiece. Dynamic Nutrition will be here,
given out smoothies. Advanced Orthopedic PhysicalTherapy will be here, given out T
shirts. Smoketown Wellness will be here, given out patient education and books.
(02:14):
And Norton will be here doing bloodpressure and glucose checks. Yeah, and
they'll be with my kids, andmy kids will be presenting their booths.
And I tell you, I'm extremelyproud of my students. They've done booths
from anywhere from down syndrome, whichone of my students has a sister who
(02:35):
has down syndrome, to fitness,to lymphoma, to the nervous system,
to nutrition, to mental health, digestion, which one student has Crohn's disease,
and he discusses that within his presentation, and then skeletal system and just
all kinds of things and they allgot to choose their topics and so they
have basically this is their voice andchoice and something that they have truly of
(03:00):
doing for this timeframe and are veryvery excited about presenting on Friday. Well,
yeah, it sounds like they're they'rethey're getting a lot of great business
knowledge too, about how you haveto put something together, it has to
be prepared by a certain timeline, and you have to deliver what you promise.
These are all good things for themto learn, I agree, And
(03:21):
especially in this day and age afterCOVID, the social skills that they're learning,
making eye contact, talking to somebody, having a conversation actually to a
person and not through a phone.I think it's just something that usually after
every healthfare, the students are justsurprised at how much they enjoyed, you
know, being a part of thebooth and getting to talk to so many
(03:44):
different people throughout the night because theypractice delivering their presentations to people that are
older, to people that are myage, to people their own age,
and even little kids because they haveto reword things so that that a smaller
kid would be able to understand whatthey were talking about. And so it's
very very impressive to watch them,I have to say. And like I
(04:09):
said, they do all the work. I just kind of corral them and
support them and make sure they geteverything that they need. Good for you,
that's just fantastic. I love thewhole premise. All right, So
your community health fare is Friday fromwhat time what did you say? Six
to seven thirty pm at Mazique MiddleSchool. Very nice, Catherine, you're
(04:30):
doing a wonderful job. Let's seewhat is today. It's April, okay,
So like two years from now, you'll be in like your last week
or two of your career, right, correct, Yes, sir, if
I don't quit before then, Iwant you to come in and co host
a show with me after you atthe end of your teacher career. We'll
come in and we'll just talk.Yeah, We'll come in here and talk
(04:51):
all about then the stories you cantell it. You couldn't tell now or
you get fired. Okay, okay, that's a date. That is a
day. You marked that down forApril of twenty twenty six. Sound good,
I'm writing it down right now.I got you, all right,
Okay, all right, thank you, sir. I appreciate it. You
are very welcome. Catherine, greatmaking your acquaintance over the phone. So
(05:14):
on. That's Catherine Sutherland from MaziqueMiddle School. It's a great school here
in town. And you hearders describewhat all these kids have put together for
this community health fare and all thefolks they have participating. That's just fantastic.
That's why teachers are so great. They open up these gateways and give
them a general idea and then allof a sudden they're learning, learning,
learning, and that's just that's awealth of knowledge that pays dividends for the
(05:38):
rest of their lives. Good onthem, all right. So that is
Friday night, six o'clock at MoziqueMiddle and it's free community health fare.
There you go.
