Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're a news radio eight forty whas Terry Miners here.
I have a proud Sacred Heart Academy graduate, also my
niece while multiples, I'm thinking of another niece of mine
you may see on the news. Addie Minors, is also
a Sacred Heart Academy alum. My daughter, Gracie, who happens
(00:20):
to be twenty one years old. Today. We're gonna FaceTime
later tonight talk about she's gonna open presence again. Another
difference between the boys I've raised and the girl that
I've raised. We gave her presence when we visited her
several weeks ago, and she hasn't opened them yet. You
get them to a boy, I can't wait. That's the
(00:41):
way we've we've learned over the years. So we're gonna
FaceTime open presence later today. I'm excited about that. I
don't know I've had a FaceTime presence opening session like
this before. She learned her manners at Sacred Heart Academy,
one of the great institutions at our city. We've got
two excellent representatives of the school here right now. Emily Puffer,
(01:04):
Hello to you, Hello, how are you? It's great to
have you here. Thank you and Caitlin Valdez. Great to
see you.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Hello, thanks for having us.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Tell me about the work you do at Sacred Heart Academy.
Who's going first, Emily, I'll.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Start, Yes, Caitlin and I work in the Sacred Heart
Horton Family Accessible Education Center, which is the part of
the building devoted to meeting the needs of students who
have accommodation plans for learning differences or ADHD or medical
needs that require additional support within the classroom.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Excellent, and so are there is this a few students?
Is this a significant number, Kaitlin, So, we have about.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
One hundred and eighty students on active accommodation plans and
we partner with teachers and families to make sure that
they are having the educational experience that everyone hopes.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Actually absolutely right, so that every child is a snowflake,
is a usual, is a unique creature, and sometimes they
have a little they want a little, they need a
little boost in one area or another, and that's what
you do.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Just need a little extra support to reach their full potential,
and that's what we do.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
I love how sensitive the school is to that. I mean,
our experience was great through the four years at Sacred
Heart Academy and so you know, keep up the great work.
So I understand there's an accommodate college fair ahead, tell
me about this.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Yes, the Archises of Louisville sponsors this college fair every year,
and this year we have the privilege of hosting it
at Sacred Heart. It is designed, it's unique, and that
it's really the only college fair in the area that
is designed to meet the needs of students who might
need additional support at the college level. So students who
have learning differences, or medical needs, or for whatever other
reason might need some support from their support staff. So
(02:46):
in addition to sending admissions reps, colleges will also send
a representative from their learning needs office so families and
prospective students can have some real quality time to do
some questions and answers with those with those people as
well as the admissions because for a lot of students
who have learning differences, the type of support that they
can receive is a key factor in deciding where to
(03:07):
go to college because they want to know where they
can be the most successful.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Well, people are a little smarter now about how they
recruit students and what they offer, and they show them
all the dimensions of what they offer, because Caitlin, I'll
pretty much relive my experience when I went to the
college fair at Saint X years ago. You covered or
not that was pretty much yet. Yeah, I don't know.
I'll ask my parents. Yeah, so don't ask any questions.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
Right, right, and Accommodate really has brought together more than
twenty schools from across our state, and so it gives
families a wide variety and one place to kind of
pick and choose, because sometimes people don't even know where
to start. So it's a great way to kind of
just get a Shmorgas board of options.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Of course, that's the beauty of it all. Did I
read something today? Was there another celebration at Sacred Heart today?
Some more state championships.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Soccer and field hockey. That's nice, both of those in
the past couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Yeah. And Donna Moore, she just is crazy amazing. She's
so good. I'll see every now and I'll say, Donna,
you did it again. She goes, oh, stop, which which
sport are you talking about? They win so many titles.
You have to clarify with her.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Yeah, we're lucky with it. We had a big pepperrelly
at the end of the day to day to celebrate
the two state championships.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
That's all good. And then do the does everybody on
the team get a new car? I'm just kidding start that. Yeah,
it is fun to be able to go to those
celebrations and just bring everybody together. But yeah, soccer and
what was the hockey field? Hockey both won Yes again
this year. That's terrific. All right, So tell me when
(04:46):
and where on the Accommodate College Fair. Who's got that one?
Speaker 3 (04:49):
I've got it. It's Thursday, November sixth at Sacred Heart
Academy from six to seven thirty. It's free, it's open
to the public. There's no need to register in advance.
It will be held in the gym, which is in
the back of the school, So if you pull in
from Lexington Road, you'll circle around the Sacred Heart Academy
building and enter through the gym.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
So, moms and dads that are listening right now and
they think, you know my daughter or son, I guess
anybody's head of the college may need a little, just
a little special dimension in their education going forward. This
is the perfect place for them.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
To absolutely so bring the dealers out.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Yeah, it doesn't matter where your kid goes to school,
what they're doing. You'd love to see him on Thursday night. Okay,
what'd you say, six o'clock?
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Yes, six, all right?
Speaker 1 (05:36):
The Accommodate College Fair for Students with Learning Needs? Now,
is there a website we can read more or as
we just go to Sacred Heart Academy's webs If you go.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
To Sacred Heart social media, there should be something up
there within the next twelve hours or so. And you
can also go to the social media page of the
Archdiocese of Louisville. They're going to have something posted up
there as well.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
I'm not much of a gam I only placed two
bets a year, and that's on the Kentucky Derby and
the Pink White Game. And I just want to tell
you that one stung a little bit this year. Yes, yes,
that doesn't untimeough it is. It's a fun thing, it's
a great event. But I was a little shocked by
that one of my neighbors was playing there. That's why
I knew all about it. That's what it was. And anyway,
(06:21):
it's it's just great what Sacred Heart brings to this
community in the Catholic community here and the community at large.
It's all much better for having you guys there. We
really appreciate Sacred Heart Academy's mission. Keep it up. Thank you,
Emily and Caitlin. Great to see both of you. We're
back in a minute here on news Radio eight forty
