Speaker 1 (00:01):
Broadcasting live across the world. Right now. This is the
John Jay and Rich radio program, Stanford, Connecticut.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Hello, good morning, this is Stephanie with WWE.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Well, Hi Stephanie, how are you.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
I'm doing good? How about yourself?

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Oh? Just fabulous. We're very excited. Right well, well let
me merg you in with Gunther Gunther. Let's go. Let's
do this, Grant, it's very exciting.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Okay, you are on with Gunther.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Gunther the ring General.

Speaker 5 (00:37):
Yes, Hello, Oh fabulous man, dude, it's so cool to
talk to you. World heavyweight champion. Nuts.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Literally the biggest interview we've ever done.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
The biggest interview we've ever done. Goother. This is amazing.
So what do you?

Speaker 5 (00:53):
Where are you? What are you doing today? Are you
preparing for rawl next week in Glendale? What exactly has
how happening right now in your world?

Speaker 2 (01:02):
I know, I'm just gonna relax the day. I think
I'm gonna I had a very late slight yesterday. I
came in late at night. So, yeah, you're.

Speaker 5 (01:13):
You're a pretty intense guy. So what does relaxing look
like for Goother?

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Oh? Family time? Basically? Hell yeah, not saying nothing special.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Nice man, It's funny because the quick the question I
had written down first was like, I don't want to.
I'm kind of a like big baby, and I don't
want to run into any professional wrestler. But goother specifically
is one that I'm like if I Son and Alliot,
I would the other way. And so being such an

(01:43):
intense person and intense character, like when you have big
matches like with Damien Priest at war games, like what
is your game day routine? Like what gets you jacked up?

Speaker 4 (01:56):
I don't think I need to get checked up, to
be honest, like, I'm very I'm very logical and really staking.
My approach of what I do and my game client
is usually very I should I say waterproof?

Speaker 2 (02:10):
That makes sense? I don't.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
I don't get myself into the situation where I have
to be worried about many things. Well, yeah, I think
I'm one of the kind where it's like the kama
I can be before I need to deliver, the better,
the more in control.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
It will be.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
Well, here's here's the question. I was watching just clips.
I just watched like the best of Gunther, just reckon,
reckon the guys right, and I was wondering, has there
ever been a time you're known. You're known for this
incredible chop, this very loud, I mean, brutal chop. Has
there ever been a point in the ring where you're like, Damn,

(02:49):
I think I hit this guy too hard?

Speaker 2 (02:52):
No, never really what it is.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
There's no such thing as too hard.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Damn, dude does that?

Speaker 5 (02:59):
Like so, I mean, but there was there like a
day where you just realized, man, my chop is just
out of control, Like nobody can mess with this. Nobody's
got anything on this chop. When was the first like
moment where you realize, like this is this is my
my thing.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
Oh, I can't even remember, but it's like I got
long limbs, like I got long arms, and I got
long legs, and I always fought.

Speaker 6 (03:18):
Well, then that's what I should use for all the
things I do. Like so it's that's why it's very
strike heavy, and I just thought it makes the most sense,
and when I got a good response, I just suck
with it.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
I feel like like you came out of the womb
looking this way like this, this tough, like like I mean,
the ring general is the most accurate nickname. When did
you know, like, hey, being a professional wrestler is a
reality like that's something that that I can do and
I can't attain.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
Yeah, I don't know. I think, good question. It's football
for a long time, and when that added, I was
looking for something new. It was always a wrestling friend
by accident upon the wrestling school in Austrian that I
just kind of like.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Went with it.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
Everything happened like step by step, but it wasn't really I
don't know, there wasn't a real big goal when I
started doing it. It was just through the course of
the Korean when you train, when you get out, they
get on a few shelves and stuff like that, they's
a little easier realize, oh, might have a shot at
doing this properly and earned a living from it. And

(04:31):
then everything just kind of fell in place.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
So I have a question.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
This is a this is a very I've been watching
wrestling since I was a little kid, and I remember
back in the day, i'd watch like Razor Ramone like that,
WrestleMania ten era stuff, And what I would always think
of is I my dad wore dress socks for a living, right,
Like he was a funeral director and he always had
these dress socks on and he never had hair on
his legs because it would wear off completely. So I'm wondering,

(04:57):
like the guys that wear the boots like you like
Raise the Ramone like you know, like pretty much all
the greats that have warm wrestling boots. Do you guys
have hair on your legs from like the knee down
or is it just completely worn off like in the
locker room. Is it just a bunch of hairless calves
walking around.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
I'm just looking down the air. Have wear shorts at
the moment. It's quite hairy, so doesn't fly for me.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
The hair in the business.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
So also you have do you put a ton of
products in your hair to keep your part as like
it's your Your hair is always rock solid. You could
be in an hour long match and you still have
that amazing part.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Does that?

Speaker 5 (05:41):
Is that something that you have to put time and
energy into keeping as firm a hold as you do?

Speaker 2 (05:48):
No, actually, not the thing.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
It's somewhat Actually for a long time though, I started
to put any product in my head before I go
out because it's just annoying when it you sweat.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Yeah, your eyes, Yeah, my hairches seems to be naturally
a little bit stiff.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
But I guess these are the hot topics.

Speaker 5 (06:07):
This is what the guys were talking about in the street,
you know what I mean, Like we're just getting to
the bottom of the stuff.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
So obviously we're promoting Raw in Glendale on November twenty fifth,
heading into it's like the go Home Show before War Games.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Watching Raw this past week, I have a two part question. First,
who do you hate more, Damien Priest or Cody Roads?

Speaker 3 (06:32):
Oh, good questions.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
I don't know if.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
It's just somebody dislike somebody want to just dominate more.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
I don't know. So like Cody. I respect Cody, but
it's just these a bit I don't know, it's a
bit much like he really is.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
I don't know how to mortually like, I think he's
ways about going about things wouldn't be my ways. And yeah,
and Priest is like, yeah, I don't know if it's hate.
I guess he took my loss against Cody as his
win underneath his wings now, and that's fine for I
would do the same.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Yeah, him and him adopting Cody's win against you is
like I was like, crazy, Hey man, come on, wait
a minute.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Also, yeah, I mean I don't judge him for that.

Speaker 5 (07:25):
I guess also what I you know, two weeks ago,
you you owned Damien Priest on the raw. It was nuts,
like you were you hit him with the whole Streets promo.
That was awesome, and then what was it last night?

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Two nights ago? The critics the.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
Critics are saying Damian Priest silenced you in the ring.
How do you feel about that?

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Like? What what do you? What do I mean?

Speaker 5 (07:46):
Does that are you seating with anger? Are you getting
ready for this big match a Survivor series? What's what's
going through your head when you see stuff like that?

Speaker 2 (07:54):
I mean, so that's so, that's the thing. I mean.
So I don't know.

Speaker 7 (07:58):
If he can relate because he he loses a little
bit more than I do. I never really lose, so
when so when I lose, let's yeah, sometimes it can
be a little bit. A struggle happens to the best obviously,
But yeah, that's my struggle though. I have to figure

(08:19):
that out.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
But yeah, if he wants to use that against me,
I don't blame him, all good. But if I'm if
I'm at my best, then he can't lace boots.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
You know.

Speaker 5 (08:32):
The thing I like about gunther Nick is, dude, the
sizzle is the steak dude. Yeah, he is all business like.
There's no like you see him come out of the ring.
There's no like dancing, there's no there's no screwing around
with Goonther dude like he is just he's there and
he's ready to go, ready to go.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
And you are.

Speaker 5 (08:47):
You have a street going, You've got You've been like
the what one hundred and so many days with the
heavyweight championship. That's like you're gonna be You're gonna be
Bob Macklin dude. Twelve years, dude, it's gonna be That's
what I'm I'm twelve year champion.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Goother, It's gonna be nuts.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Right, I get.

Speaker 8 (09:05):
I mean looking great. I like back Love of Love.
I gotta say so to match that record. But that's
a I don't even know if I want to keep
on going for that long, to be honest, like, you
know what.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Twelve years might be too much.

Speaker 5 (09:18):
Who's who's the guy Gunther that I we know you
got a ton of interviews to do, But who's the
guy that you've met in the wrestling industry that you're like,
oh my god, I met this guy. This is amazing.
I never imagined this would happen. Who would that be
for you?

Speaker 2 (09:34):
A good question? Another big I don't know.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
How would I say, like it's not a fanboy I was.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
Yeah, I was never big into like idolizing specific personalities,
if that makes sense.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
So it's now that makes perfect sense told from you
totally see I idolize everyone and like going like going
from when you started in the w W two now
and like so much has changed in that in that
even so brief amount of time, like I can I
can see where it's just like I would rather forge
my own path than like idolize somebody else that's already

(10:11):
been here.

Speaker 4 (10:13):
Yeah that's man, that's what I'm thinking. So it's quite
cool to meet some of the guys down the road.
I would say that the coolest accomplishment over the career
was like first in edist kind of like working with
Seanan like like really working like at a high level
and just discussed stuff, and then now doing the same
with with cripple Ah as well. It's like those are

(10:34):
like cool accomplishments. It's like because like if it would
be like meeting someone, it would be like on a
personal level, like.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
It means more of like you have those moments on
a business level.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
That makes sure it's totally.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
That's more, that's more meaningful.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
It's like I don't know, just like how you doing
quick catchup doesn't do much for me, And.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yeah, I think it's more on a business level.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
So you're you're gonna systematically take apart Damian Priest. We're
predicting it. We know what's gonna happen. What's next for
Gunther after this? This just systematic destruction of Damien Priest.
What's happening next?

Speaker 2 (11:12):
I mean, yeah, we have to get there for us
and then yeah, we we'll see. You have to ask
everybody else. I guess because I'm the I'm the guy
to chase, right.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
So yeah, everybody else is competing to get the ring
with me now, and that's yeah, we'll figure I'll have.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
To is what the situation will be. It's hard to say.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
So when you you brought up Triple H and Shawn
Michaels and like it's fascinating to me you just call
him Sean Sean, Like, so backstage is it like we
like my friends and I in high school would call
Triple H just trips. Do you have like a nickname
for Triple h do you do you refer to him
as Triple Hs, like when you're sitting down for these.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
Mister mister.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Yeah, I mean he's got a right right you go in.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
It's just like h excuse me, excuse me.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
Hh Okay, there's there's defining in wrestling with sometimes backstage
the gimmick name is.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
The name as well. Sure, I've never been a fan
of that.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
I try to I try to approach people with their
real name with I know their real name.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
If you weren't if you weren't going the what what
would your name be?

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Walter?

Speaker 3 (12:27):
It's Walter with like an la over there. Yeah, all right.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
Desert Diamond Arena, Glendale, Monday Night Raw and these these
shows before the pay per views are are always wild. No,
so make sure you're there.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
I've been to Raw.

Speaker 5 (12:50):
I've been ringside of Raw, and it was the funnest
just to see a the wrestling, to see the entertainment,
but then to also see the switchovers in between. It's
just such a cool operation. Like if you haven't gotten
your tickets to go see Wrong Glendale, get your tickets
because it's it's a show and a half, and get
our tickets to Yeah, get our tickets please. Well hell yeah,

(13:10):
hell yeah, Goonther, we appreciate you taking the time with us.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Brother.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Yeah, thank you guys for having me. And yeah, thanks
for the chat.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Dude. Give them hell next week and keep that hair tight, brother.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Yes, I will.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Hair tight and legs unshamed.

Speaker 5 (13:26):
Yeah, unshaven, body tight, hair tight, the whole Gunther experience.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Dude. All right, thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
Man, have a good one.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
Thank you too. Bye.
