Speaker 1 (00:01):
Shrock Innovations presents the midwest number one independent computer repair
company with service centers and Lincoln Paul Maha, a billion
des moines and across the country via the Shrock Desk.
This is compute this.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Hello folks, and welcome in to compute this. My name
is Thor Schrock. I'm the owner of the Shrock Innovations
computer company with three and a half locations to help
you out with your your computer. Yeah, three and a half. Well,
if you hit our Facebook page Facebook dot com slash
Shrock Innovations, you'll see that. It was demo day on
Friday in the Omaha Service Center and everybody looked at

(00:40):
me like I was really really weird when I said this,
But I was like, it's kind of sad. And my
wife is there with me, and she's like, this is
this is amazing. We're going to totally this place is
going to be like this is getting a whole refresh.
This is amazing. I'm like, no, this is sad. It
feels like the end of an era, like we're you know,
and so, you know, my seven year old takes his
little mini sledgehad got a sledgehammer too, you know, the

(01:02):
worst kid needs a hammer. He's worthy, and so he
you know, he goes up to the desk and you know,
he smacks the desk and he gets to put it.
I mean, how many times when you're seven does your
dad tell you go ahead and put a hammer through
that wall. You know, that's that's pretty cool stuff. You know, well,
if it's your job, it's not so cool. But if
you're for seven years old and you get to do
it once, that's pretty neat. And so then you know,
I grabbed the other employees that were working that day

(01:22):
and I'm like, hey, guys, and if you want to
take a swing at that front desk, and you know,
to varying degrees of success, some of the guys, you know,
some of the guys took some swings. I put some
videos online. You can judge for yourself. I got more videos.
It's kind of fun. But yeah, so then then then
you know, the lovely Kimberly and I went to work
and you know, that desk was gone. And then one
day later, the brand new front desk is already framed,

(01:45):
The office for a crystal is is framed, the door
is hung, and all of a sudden, it's like, oh,
this is getting real in one day. So yes, three
and a half locations. We have the original Shock Innovations
seventy five oh one South fifteenth Street Link, Nebraska, just
south of fourteenth and Pine Lake Road in Omaha. We're
across the street from Village point one hundred and sixty

(02:06):
eighth in Burke Street. Any funny story about this, right,
So the side where that's under we have two sides
to that service unders. Two doors. One's an employee door typically,
the other is the front door that all the customers
normally come through. Well, obviously if we're deconstructing the front,
it's a construction zone, so we have to lock that door.
We put every window has a sign with an arrow
saying go to the other door. Then we took off

(02:28):
the employee's only sign off the other door and said
this is you know, this is the way. Essentially, we
got a one star review on Google yesterday from a
customer who was upset because now I have to go
all the way to Lincoln to get my computer serviced.
My wife just looked at me, she goes, there's a
sign on every door. I'm like, people don't read. People

(02:49):
don't read, people don't listen. Yeah, I can say all
day long that two five h two is only for
Windows eleven. If you have Windows ten, you don't need it.
And I swear to the sweet Baby Jesus, someone is
gonna kick at the phone and call the service and
be like, do I need this for my Windows ten?
And you're like, no, no, you don't. That's okay though,
that's all right. So you know, we have to repeat ourselves.

(03:09):
We have to be very clear in our communication, very
precise in our language. We are under construction. It'll take
about a week and then we'll be back to normal.
You don't have to go all the way to Lincoln.
We're gonna call that gentleman on Monday and say we're
happy to help. We can arrange a pickup for you.
We can do whatever you need. You don't can you
take down your one star review?

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Please?

Speaker 2 (03:26):
I mean that's kinna mean, so say yeah. A funny
story there also in Papilion two four nine Olsen Drive
in the Midlands Place shopping Center off of eighty fourth
and Highway three seventy and of course in West des Moines, Iowa,
right on the line between West des Moines and Waukee.
There at ninety five hundred University Avenue four zero two
five five eight eleven ten. That's the number to join

(03:48):
us on the program. Like we do every week, we're
gonna be giving away a twenty five dollars Shock Innovations
gift certificate to one you know lucky caller. One person
who calls in contributes to the program, asks the question,
makes a comment, talk about an experience. Maybe you saw
some of the construction work going on in Omaha. Feel
free to give us a call and tell us what
your thoughts were there as well. If you missed the
show last week, it was a great show, if I

(04:09):
do say so myself. The last week on the program,
we told you all about two five h two's upcoming release.
What is two five h two. We'll recap it for
you in a minute. It's a Windows eleven update that's
coming next month you really really really don't want to
do on your own and how safe upgrade can do
it for you, essentially. We also told you about my
WiFi seven experience installing it in the home, and the

(04:30):
funny thing is is that now a couple times after
we have the Wi Fi seven with three routers in
the house. Once in a while, especially in the evenings,
my phone won't get on the internet and I have
to switch to cellular internet. It's just the Wi Fi.
I'm like, what is going on with this? That was
what my wife was complaining about before, but before it
was just her phone. So in effect, I've essentially made

(04:51):
it worse. So for all of you out there who
have ever had Wi Fi problems and said I wish
I could just have a technician come solve it me too,
you know, like everything is working, I don't understand. Also,
we discussed last week rumors about what was coming out
for the iPhone seventeen at the awe dropping event that
happened here this week, and we were talking about some
of the numbers, you know, all the CEOs out there, like,

(05:14):
mister President, We're gonna pledge one hundred gazillion dollars to
build you know, infrastructure to build stuff in America. Isn't
that amazing?

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (05:25):
And we'll bring in some South Koreans to build it. Yeah,
go Hyundai, go Hundi. You know, oh wow, that was
great stuff. Right. Well, we just talked about how some
of the numbers that Mark Zuckerberg was thrown around were
absolutely ludicrous, Like he was going to spend six hundred
billion dollars on data centers in the US or something,
when Facebook spends one hundred and twenty five billion a
year and that's what their budget is for next year,

(05:46):
So six hundred billion is six times they're estimated by.
If they did that, their stock would crater because the
Kapex spend would be crazy. So some of these numbers
are just numbers floating in the wind. And that's kind
of what we learned to a hot mic moment when
you said, you know, mister president, I'm sorry you took
me by surprise there. I wasn't sure what number you
were looking for. Yeah, whatever number you need to hear,

(06:07):
mister president, let's talk for the cameras. So you know,
it's one of those things to you know, take with
a grain of salt at times. All right, So coming
up on the show today, we're going to do a
quick recap. I'm not going to spend a whole show
on it. We're going to do a quick recap on
what two five h two is, when it's coming, why
it's coming, how it's coming, all that stuff, how you
can keep your computer running the way you want it

(06:29):
to run. There will be an after shock today, So yeah,
you know, sometimes couldn't do one last week, and I'll
explain more during the after shock why but threw the
schedule off by a week. So if we wouldn't have
had that happen last week, no after shock today, and
I'll tell you there's a lot to talk about. So yeah,

(06:50):
things happen for a reason, right. Also, Apple gets approval
for its hypertension update. If you have someone in your
family that has a blood pressure issue, this is something
you're going to want to listen to because now the
Apple Watch is going to be able to monitor for hypertension,
which is essentially, you know, high blood pressure. So that's
pretty crazy stuff. So we're going to talk about that. Also,

(07:11):
we're going to go over some of the things that
we're announced in during for the iPhone seventeen. If it
is in essence, if you heard what we thought was
going to happen, we were spot on everything. Even the
iPhone Air is going to be super thin and super cool,
and it's going to have reduced capabilities because there's no
way they can put everything in the air that they
put in the regular phone. Yep, that's right, exactly what

(07:31):
we said. Have they even designed a special backup battery
that only works on the iPhone Air. Why would you
do that? Why would you design a backup battery that
only works on the iPhone Air the thinnest phone apples
ever made, with the thinnest battery apples ever made. I'm
assuming maybe it's got battery issues and it needs its

(07:54):
own backup battery. H something to look up for compromises
you want to, But the phone is sexy, it is,
it is beautiful, so I'm not gonna I'm not gonna
knock them there. Also, you know, just because we got
to have a good, interesting, fun story to keep you
listening for the entire show. At the end of the program,
it is entirely possible that Facebook is actively monitoring all

(08:18):
of your videos and pictures in your phone, actually uploading
them to Facebook to process them without your permission or
you know, with your permission because you agreed to I
agree to all or something, and so you know, with
your permission, but without your permission, And so we're gonna
tell you how to check that and then then how
to turn it off so that you can make sure
that you keep your your met You know, I don't

(08:40):
have stuff in my phone. That if if my seven
year old got a hold of my phone and went
through my camera, role, he's not going to find anything
in there that I would wouldn't show my grandma. You know.
It's like it's it's fine, but not everybody's phone is
like that, right, So do you really want Facebook coming
through all your personal stuff? Like that's pretty crazy. So
we're going to talk about that coming up on the

(09:01):
program today as well. So real quickly, let's start off
with this two five h two stuff, guys, because this
is important. It's a big deal, and we're actually starting
the actual marketing launch of the safe Upgrade version for
two five h two this week. And so the number
of copies that are sold right now, we've sold maybe
a lot one hundred copies or so of the six

(09:22):
hundred we had available, and that's with no marketing at all.
That's just hey, it's available, and everybody who's ever purchased
one before is like, oh yes, please, that was so
easy last time. I'd much rather do that than deal
with this, you know, hauling it into the service center
when it breaks and losing my data and having all
these problems. So please give me a safe upgrade and
one hundred people just were like one sixth of the

(09:42):
total supply are gone now, so it's about five hundred
or so and change. I don't know the exact number.
I didn't look before the program. I probably should have,
I'm sorry, but five hundred and change left, and essentially
those copies are going to go very quickly now when
we start. You know, we haven't sent an email to
short customers yet letting them know, so if they happened
to not hear the radio show last week, they don't
know we have. We just posted on Facebook yesterday about

(10:05):
it and boosted that post, so you're probably seeing that
in your Facebook feeds, popping up here and there. So
we're seeing sales from that as well. So it's gonna
start picking up a little bit. But essentially two five
h two is the big annual update for Windows. Two
five means it's coming in twenty twenty five, and h
two means half two. Microsoft used to do two of

(10:26):
these a year back in Windows ten days, but now
that it's only Windows eleven that's getting this because your
Windows ten is dead in October, Microsoft's not getting you
feature upgrades for Windows ten. There are no new features
for Windows ten. You're lucky if the old features keep
working after October for Windows ten. Because you aren't getting
security patches, you're getting nothing. Yes, yes, yes, you can

(10:46):
jump through thirty hoops and sign up for four things
and pay thirty dollars and then you get updates for
another year. But guess what, then your printer won't work,
and your router won't work, and your email won't work,
and all these other problems are gonna happen that aren't
Microsoft's problem. But you'll have security updates, so ah, you're
good to go. You know. Don't try to use a
program that was intended, you know, to keep hospitals or

(11:07):
radio stations running their Windows ten computers for another year
and use that to keep your personal technology going. It
is a recipe for a disaster because you do not
have a full time dedicated IT person maintaining those systems. Now,
of course we can be your full time dedicated IT people.
It's kind of what we do, you.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Know, m M.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
But you don't want to pay for that, because if
you were going to pay for that, you may as
well just buy a new computer and get Windows eleven.
You know, I had a customer come in. We were
doing deconstruction in Omaha. It comes in and he has
a catalog from another shop in town and he says,
you know, this is a this is they do all
the commercial work in town. And I've never heard of
these people. But I'm like, okay, you know whatever. They
have a catalog that's got to say something. And on
their catalog they've got a mini. And he's like, I

(11:49):
want to get a mini. And I'm looking at your
mini and I'm looking at their mini. But your mini
is like twice as much. Your mini is like eight
hundred dollars and their mini is like four hundred dollars,
So what's the deal? And I'm looking over the specifications
in these minis and the mini that they're selling, this
gentleman is an eighth generation Intel chip. Why is that important?

(12:10):
That is the oldest chip you can possibly have and
still be Windows eleven compatible. So literally, that is the
absolute oldest thing they can sell you. Technologically speaking, it's
seven years old now. Maybe it's new old stock. Intel's
not making those chips anymore. Maybe it's new old stock.
Maybe it's refurbished, maybe it's used. I don't know. You know,

(12:32):
you should know that though, right, don't don't buy that.
It's just gonna be a nightmare. And you know, then
then he hits me with it. Well, I'm ninety three
and you know, and You're like, well, I suppose you know,
if it only lasts you a couple of years. You know,
I like to be an optimist, but you know when
you yeah, I've had cancer fourteen times. And I was like, oh, really,

(12:54):
that's that's interesting. You know, he didn't say fourteen times.
I just in case you know who I'm talking about.
I don't want to on it hit my hander. But anyway,
so I added a nice conversation with this gentleman while
I'm holding a sledgehammer and gloves and everything else, like
knocking out the front desk, and he wants to know
about Mini's. So two five h two is the update
that's that's going to take your Windows eleven experience and

(13:15):
level it up. As we've told you for the past
year and as you have not wanted to hear for
the last year. Honestly, AI is creeping into everything you do. Everything.
That video of Joe smashing the front desk with the
sledgehammer was processed with AI on my phone before I
uploaded it. What did it do? It clipped the video

(13:38):
because there were a lot more swings there, Joe, a
lot more swings. I made you look good, buddy. But
I mean he went to town on that desk. His
feet were sliding. Watched the video, I mean his stance
was sliding, he was moving, he was swinging. I beought
he was sore the next day. I mean, it is
crazy how hard he was swinging that hammer. I don't
know why he was really upset with that front desk.
But you know, so that video was post process with AI.

(14:02):
You know, we're going to send an email for safe upgrade.
And the last email, the mass email that we sent
to customers for a product was the Maintenance Checkup Special,
And just on a lark, I asked chat GPT to
write that email for me. I said, with everything you
know about my company and the Maintenance Checkup Special and
everything you can learn from the here's the previous email

(14:23):
we sent, please write me an email intended to you know,
sell maintenance checkup certificates. Not only did it write a
better email than I did, but it came It had
a beautiful line at the bottom of the email that
I'm like, why didn't I ever do this. It just
said if you want to get one, just reply to
me and I'll help you out. Essentially was just just

(14:44):
click reply and tell me you want one, and I'll
make sure you get one. It was genuine, it was personalized,
it was individual It reinforced the fact that I am
actually sending you this email with my actual reply to address.
If I'm asking you to read an email from me,
by golly, if you reply to the email, I'm going
to read the email from you. It was beautiful, so

(15:07):
it's really tempting. We'll see. We'll see watch your inboxes
and you can tell me if you think I wrote it,
or if you think chat GPT wrote it. But for
the Safe upgrade. But Safe upgrade is coming in October.
We don't know when in October, so it could be
the start of October, it could be the end of October.
Microsoft doesn't really tell us. The only thing we usually
know for sure is it's not the second Tuesday of
October because that's when the normal updates come out. So

(15:30):
it's going to probably be toward the end of the month,
I would think, But we don't know. It's already being
downloaded to your computers. Right now. There's a new way
that they're doing it. This time, they want to be
able to flip a switch and everybody's on two four
h two, which means it has to be not only
downloaded to your computer, but partially installed on your computer.

(15:50):
So what they're doing is they're installing this code on
your computer ahead of time, and they're only going to
activate it. Well, they're going to send out an activation
update that just says, okay, all this commented code is
now live and boop, just like that. A computer that
was running fine the day before might have a blue screen,
might have a user account problem. We see all kinds
of issues with these major updates, especially when they change

(16:12):
the way they're delivered. That's why safe upgrade is so important.
It installs the update the exact same way that we
would do it on the bench with a technician in
the service center, as if we were standing there with
a flash drive, plugging it into the computer and installing
the update. It's exact same. And then on top of that,
if something does go sideways with the update installing on
your computer, you have a warranty from Shock. We're gonna

(16:36):
we're gonna make we're gonna fix it and you don't
end up having to come in and spend one hundred
and fifty or three hundred dollars or one or two
hours of labor to get your computer fixed for an
update that was free, that added a bunch of AI
functions that you didn't want anyway. But that's what's going
to happen to you if you don't get safe upgrade.
Good chance, not everybody. Some people will be just fine,

(16:56):
but there's a really good chance, especially if you have
an older computer. And by older I mean older than
eighteen months old. If you have an older computer, this
is definitely something you want to take a look at.
So if you go to Shrocannovations dot com and you
click on shop and Specials, that's where we keep all
of our one off computers that we have for sale, discounts,
things like that, open box items and specials, and so

(17:17):
it is on the specials page. Go to Shrocinnovations dot com,
click on Shopping Specials. You can add it to the car.
Get one for every Windows eleven computer that you have
in your household. So if you have kids off at
college or something, they're going to come back for Christmas
or whatever, get them a safe upgrade. They can run
it from college, you can run it from anywhere, but
get one for each Windows eleven computer that you've got.

(17:38):
You do not need this for Windows ten. How do
you know if you have Windows ten? I'm glad you asked.
When you click on that little start menu at the bottom,
you know of your screen. If your start menu is
in the lower left hand corner, way over on the left,
in the lower left corner, you have Windows ten and
you don't need two five h two. You need a
whole new computer. It's way worse. You don't need. You

(18:02):
need the sixty dollars product. You need like the eight
hundred dollars product. You'll be fine. If your start menu
is in the center down below, toward the middle of
the screen a little more, then you have Windows eleven
and you need safe upgrade. Four zero two five five
eight eleven ten. We're going to take our first break
of the program here. When we come back, Marta, your
call is coming up next on compute this computer.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
Problems usually don't just suddenly happen.

Speaker 5 (18:24):
Most failures usually start out as small issues with few
or no symptoms.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
Over time, they grow.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
Into error messages, blue screens and other problems that can
be costly to fix. Shrock Innovations by annual preventative maintenance
check up catches those small problems now before they can
to tastasize and become tomorrow's costly repairs. During the maintenance
check up, our experienced technicians per form up to eight
hours of tests, checks, automated repairs, and optimizations that keep

(18:51):
your computer at peak efficiency while identifying potential issues while
you still have.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
Options about how to handle them.

Speaker 5 (18:58):
When your computer gets its check up, it can see
it to a twenty five percent performance improvement and leaves
our service center cleaned, sanitized, and running better than the
day you bought it. Just About every complex device requires maintenance.
Your computer is no different, especially considering the valuable information
that passes through it every day. If you have not
had your computer maintenance in the past six months.

Speaker 4 (19:20):
You are overdue.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
Stop in or call any of our service centers to
arrange a free pickup.

Speaker 4 (19:25):
To ensure your computer continues to work for you.

Speaker 6 (19:28):
Drive Advisor is a free program from Shock Innovations that
monitors your hard drives health and tells you if it's
going bad. Download it for free at driveadvisor dot com.

Speaker 5 (19:39):
Have you noticed that almost every piece of technology seems
to do its best to be disposable? Every day people
talk their phones, tablets, and other electronic devices because they
can't be repaired. Manufacturers have engineered their products to fail
on a schedule so they can extract more money out
of your family budget automatically.

Speaker 4 (19:58):
Every year or so. But what if it didn't have
to be that way.

Speaker 5 (20:01):
What if you could get the performance of today's fastest
computers with the expansion and upgrade options you used to enjoy.
You just described Shrck's modular desktop computers. Having the right
tool for the job is important, and Shock's modular desktop
pieces packed the performance and flexibility to handle your computing needs,
from just checking the email to running a complex business.

(20:23):
Modular desktops are engineered to be easily repaired with widely
available industry standard parts. Every component is selected intentionally to
give you years of upgrade and repair options. It is
not uncommon for a Shrock customer to be using the
same computer for a decade after they bought it. Modular
PCs are the most popular custom computers in the Midwest

(20:44):
for a reason. When you are ready for your next computer,
stop in to check out the Modular Lifestyle or shop
online at Shockinnovations dot com.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
Yeah, after the game yesterday, the Nebraska game. Sorry everyone,
And I what that doesn't want to hear about this?
You know, my son, he didn't watch the game because
you know, young people don't watch Nebraska games anymore, not
like they used to. And because you know, when you're
watching a team just destroy everybody they come up against you,
everybody wants to watch that. You don't want to watch,
you know, struggle and disappointment. You don't want that. And

(21:24):
so he's like, what they did it again? And I'm like,
I know, right, like this this is how it used
to be, This was the way. You know that you
just didn't see this before. Son, You've never seen this
in your life. So congratulations with the Huskers three and
oh and that the fight. I saw a stat that
this is the first back to back sixty plus point
games since nineteen oh seven. So if you want to

(21:46):
talk about the glory days, you know when you have
to reach back to nineteen oh seven to get a stat. Wow.
Four zero, two, five, five, eight eleven ten is the
number to join us on the program outside the metro
area if you would like us to pick up the
dime there it's eight eight eight two five zero two
zero nine to one. Not that you can do anything
with a dime anymore. And Marta standline. We're gonna have
your call here in just a moment. Before we jump

(22:07):
into that, I wanted to get this story in about
this Apple approval for this hypertensive scanning, because hypertension is
you know, you can have high blood pressure and not
even realize you have high blood pressure, and it can
cause so many complications and so many things that not
knowing can cause some serious damage. We're talking strokes, we're

(22:29):
talking heart attacks, we're talking pulmonary embolisms. I mean all
kinds of nasty, nasty, nasty things can happen because you
have high blood pressure and you just don't know it.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure is bad. So Apple got an
approval for a new type of function for the Apple Watch.
Now here's the crazy thing. Your existing Apple Watch will

(22:50):
be able to do this. You don't have to buy
the new watch. The watch you have will do the hypertension.
Hypertension scanning because it's using the same optical set so
that it uses to detect pulse. Except now it's also
measuring the response of your veins and arteries that it's
under the sensor to your heartbeat. So when your heart beats,

(23:13):
if the veins and the arteries are expanding too much,
I suppose that would indicate a lot of pressure, and
so that's high pressure, high blood pressure. And if they
are not, then maybe that's normal blood pressure. Well, obviously
it seems kind of like voodoo science, doesn't it, Like
how would they possibly know. Well, they learned it by
passing all of this iPhone, Apple I Watch Apple Watch

(23:37):
data they have through AI and ran it through a
deep learning model, and AI figured out there is a
pattern when you have hypertension to the response of your
blood vessels to your pulse under the optical sensor, and
it was able to quantify that. But you see, that
wasn't enough. Apple then went through a clinical study, a

(23:59):
clinical research study with two thousand participants to make sure
that the AI model actually worked, and it did, And
so now the FDA has cleared Apple's Apple Watch to
scan for hypertension. Now it's not like you're gonna get
really ticked off at your wife or your husband and
you're when your Apple watches and say, oh, you better

(24:20):
calm down, you're gonna pop an artery, you know, It's
not like that. It watches your your your blood flow
essentially over the course of a thirty day period, and
then it gives you a generalized warning that you might
be at risk for high blood pressure. So essentially over
thirty day periods, it's watching this and so you're not
gonna have like a single event that makes your blood
pressure spike, some anxiety event or something like that, and

(24:43):
have your watch you giving you more anxiety. It's going
to be more of a slower event, and it's not
going to tell you your actual blood pressure. It's just going
to tell you that you might have high blood pressure
and you should probably talk to your doctor, which is,
you know, really useful. If you have undetected high blood pressure,
that's a really good thing. So the trick, the only,
the only catch to this whole big cool update. You

(25:04):
have to have an iPhone eleven or newer. So if
you have an Apple Watch and an Android phone, no go,
no bueno, no detections for you. If you have an
iPhone ten or an I or iPhone x I guess
or older, then also your iPhone is obsolete. When the
new one is released. When the seventeen comes out, your
years is obsolete anyway, but anything with older than an

(25:25):
iPhone eleven will not be able to take part in
the hypertension information, even though all the devices are able
to collect it and analyze it, because planned obsolescence is
the way of the world. Four zero two, five, five,
eight eleven ten, Marta, thanks for your patients that I
appreciate you staying on the line. How can I help
you today and compute this well?

Speaker 7 (25:45):
I have actually a couple of shout outs and the
first one is to the Lincoln Service Center. A couple
of weeks ago, my eight year old as slaptop bit
the depth as far as the hard drive, and I
brought it into the service center. I was hoping that
maybe you guys could get some date off of it

(26:05):
or something.

Speaker 8 (26:06):
But no, it was really dead dead.

Speaker 7 (26:09):
So I decided to go ahead and get a new
computer because I thought we're eight years old. Something else
was going to go wrong, you know. So I went ahead,
I got the new computer, and within a day, I
mean same day, basically, they had my new computer up
and going in. I was able to pick it up

(26:29):
and it was great, and I brought it home, and
I started putting on all my software and stuff, and
I got to Microsoft Office and I have an old
version of Microsoft Office. And when it installed, it didn't
completely installed. It corrupted and I tried to uninstall it
and I couldn't. So called the service center again. I

(26:51):
got Mohammed and he told me to bring it in,
and so I came in. He just he sat down
right at the front desk with me and he played
around with it and stuff. It took him about fifteen
minutes and he got it and installed for me, didn't
charge me or anything. I mean, it was great. I
was in and out the door and on my way.
I ended up buying a new version of Microsoft Office

(27:15):
which was on sale, which was great. And I'm up
and I'm running and everything's wonderful. So thanks to Lincoln
Service Center.

Speaker 9 (27:22):
They're great.

Speaker 7 (27:23):
I mean, they're so fast and really nice to work with.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
Well, thank you, thank you for that call, mart I
really appreciate it. And you know, it's awesome because the
people that we have in Lincoln and the people we
have in all of our service centers are amazing, right,
and we try to only hire amazing people, but there
is something special about that Lincoln Service Center and it

(27:48):
flows from Andrew, who leads the service center. I remember
last Christmas, my wife went in to do the Christmas
decorating and he looks at and he goes, would you
mind if I played Christmas music? And my wife's like,
you want to play Christmas music? He's like yeah, and
she's like, be my guest. And he had the best
taste in Christmas music. She was like, it was great.
We were all just jamming out to Christmas music together

(28:10):
and you normally have to put my earbuds in and
you know, be in my own little Christmas music world
because it annoys everybody. But this was great. And if
you ever called Lincoln, he sounds like he's singing when
he answers the phone because he has such joy in
his heart, so just and and it's infectious. His whole
crew follows along, so it's it's amazing. So thank you
for the call, Marta. I really appreciate it, and I
will pass on your kind words to Mow and everybody

(28:30):
else in the Lincoln Service Center as well. Four zero two, five, five,
eight eleven ten. Going to take our next break here, guys,
But when we come back, we had the entire Apple launch.
I talked a little bit about the you know this
new hypertension update for the watch, but there's a whole
launch with new phones, new watches, new ear pods or AirPods,
everything else that happened at the Apple awe dropping event,

(28:53):
which is all great, you've heard it all. If you're
interested in Apple, you know about this stuff. If you're
not interested in Apple, you don't and you don't care.
But I'm going to tell you seven things that happened
in that event that you missed, Seven things that I
guarantee you didn't hear about or you didn't think about
about all these new products and services. So we're going
to tell you the seven things you missed from the
Apple event. Coming up next on Compute.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
Alrighty folks, welcome back into compute.

Speaker 6 (31:05):
This.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
My name's Thor Schrock. I'm the owner of these Shrock
Innovations computer company where we've got several locations to help
you out when your computer is not doing what you
wanted to do, when your Internet isn't working right, when
you need that new router, when you want that Wi
Fi seven upgrade, good stuff. You know, we're we're here
to help you out. So one of the cool things
and I had to I had to call an email

(31:26):
that resulted in a call I get. I get emails
two or three a week, Hey, I want to buy
Shrock Innovations. And you know it's yeah, it's not for sale.
You know it's not for sale, but you know, I
appreciate the You know, most of these emails are just
auto generated, so you can kind of tell the difference.
So once in a while you get one that's worded
really well, that sounds like it could have been genuine,

(31:47):
and you know you, I appreciate your interest, you know,
thanks a lot, you know whatever. And one of the
one of these emails came through this week and essentially
this this gentleman was very, very very interested, and I'm
just like, okay, listen, buddy, you know you're not interested.
You don't want us. And he's like, what do you mean,

(32:09):
I don't want it? And I'm like, okay, we're eighty
percent consumer and he was like, oh, yes, we're eighty
percent consumer, which means eighty percent of our daily business
volume is helping grandma's, grandma's, aunts and uncles, moms and
dads get their computers working the way they want them

(32:29):
to work, not businesses, not not Hey, let's not do
anything and say we're watching everything all the time and
send have you send in a fat checks. That's what
he wanted to buy and that's not what we do.
And so I'm like, you know, we're eighty percent consumer
and he's like, we know why. I'm like, because nobody else,

(32:51):
nobody else is here for these people, nobody else wants them.
I don't understand it. I mean, my entire twenty six years,
almost twenty seven years doing this. All we've ever wanted
to do is grow and grow and grow and get
more people. And now we almost don't need to advertise
anymore because nobody else every all the other computer shops
in town are saying, oh, we only handle businesses now. Sorry.

(33:13):
If you want to if you want to get your
computer fixed for you, I mean you might, you might
call over to Shock. I think they still do it.
I mean, all of our former competitors are just referring
people to us now. And it makes me wonder are
we doing something wrong? You know, like if everybody else
is doing something and you're the only one not doing it.
There's a there was just as a side, there was
a big study that was without big study, but there

(33:35):
was a study that was done where they they take
like twelve people in a room and eleven of the
twelve people are plants. They're they're they're you know, study participants.
They know it's a study. And the person running the
study holds up a piece of paper and says, it's
a very simple question. There are three lines on this

(33:55):
piece of paper. Which line is the longest, and if
you look at the piece of paper. It's not like
they're close. Like one of the lines is clearly longer
than the other lines, like by fifty percent, it's a
lot bigger. So let's just say it's line B. It's
line A, B and C, and line B is the
long one. But the first eleven people that answer the
question all say it's line A something that you can

(34:18):
look at the piece of paper and clearly C is
not true. Over ninety percent of the time, the twelfth person,
the person who is actually the study, the person being
studied in the study, they will say line A is
the longest line. Because people, if everybody else is doing something,

(34:40):
there must be a reason I must be wrong. And
it was. It was a psychological experiment. So I'm sitting
here wondering what am I doing wrong? You know because
like everybody else, nobody wants these people anymore? Why do
I want them?

Speaker 3 (34:52):
You know?

Speaker 2 (34:52):
What am I doing wrong? And it's like, no, what
are we doing right? Because when you get calls like
Marta that come in and she's just like, you know,
somebody was there to help me out and and MO
took the time to do that, and you know you're
getting you're getting calls from You know, when your biggest
complaint customer can give you is a misunderstanding that he
thinks you're you shut down your Omaha shop now he had.

(35:14):
Now I have to drive all the way to Lincoln
to get good service. So what you're saying is you
if we didn't have an Omaha service center, you would
drive an hour because our service is that much better.
But yet you gave us a one star review hmm
for zero two, five, five, eight, eleven ten. That we're doing.

(35:35):
We're right where we need to be, and we aren't
going anywhere. Guys, All right, let's get into those phones
real quick. Joy welcome to the program. How can I
help you? And compute this today?

Speaker 8 (35:45):
It's just Joyce.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
Hi, Joyce, this is Thor. How can I help you?

Speaker 8 (35:49):
Yeah? Hi, I would like to know. I have tried
to make a network change. They're putting a lot of
on some fiber optics in my neighborhood, and so I
decided to take it after being with another program for

(36:11):
twenty five years, which was Earthlink YEP, and I haven't
had internet now since August twenty eighth. Oh my god.
It is this program made or network made for a
Mac or not did I make a mistake there?

Speaker 2 (36:32):
No, when you're switching over to fiber optics, I have
a similar situation happening in my neighborhood right now. I
am counting the sweet sweet days until I can kick
Cox Communications to the curb, big fat boot. Yeah, I'm
saying your name out loud. I don't even care because
you guys have been screwing me for years, and yeah,
I'm going to alo. I've already signed up. I signed

(36:52):
up six months ago. I'm like, please dig a hole
in my arm, Please tear my sprinklers apart, Please destroy
my lawn so I can have your internet and not
pay Cox money anymore.

Speaker 8 (37:03):
Okay, I have another question then, Yes, my previous one
that I had for twenty five years with Earthlink. They
were good. I had no problems with them, but they
won't release me from their program. I mean, I'm stuck.

(37:24):
I cannot get the new program on.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
Gotcha. Well, we can certainly help you with that. So
the first thing is, is you know what you're used to
doing with Earthlink. With Earthlink, you had to launch the
Earthlink software. It was kind of like back in the
old days with AOL where you would launch the AOL
software and it would log you in and say you've
got mail, and it gave you like a special interface
to look at and everything, and you you're very used

(37:49):
to doing it that way. When you switch to the
fiber Internet, there is no program to launch. Your computer
is always supposed to be connected continuously, NonStop. So it
might not be that you're not connected to the Internet
right now. It might be that it's not connecting the
same way you're used to. So here's what I would suggest, Joyce,
if we could, let's have a technician come out to

(38:11):
your house, because the Internet should work just fine on
your Mac. It's not because you have a Mac. My
guess is that you have a connection. You might have
an Internet connection, but it's just working differently than you're
used to, and we just need to show you how
to use the new connection so that we can get
you up and running. So give us a call in
any of the service centers we do on sites. We'll
come out to your house and sit down next to

(38:33):
you and basically just figure it out so that we
can get you connected. And while we're there, you know,
we could even install a shock desk session, so you know,
if you ever needed help in the future. We can
help by remoting in and connecting with you. Thank you
for the call, Joyce. I really appreciate it, and we'd
be happy to give you. Give us a call in
any of the service centers and we'll get you taken
care of there as well. I think it's going to
be super simple actually for zero two, five, five, eight,
eleven ten. Margaret, welcome to the program. Thanks for being

(38:56):
patient with us. How can I help you on compute
this today?

Speaker 3 (38:59):
Like calling because I'd like to know how to determine
whether my computer is able to upgrade to Windows eleven.

Speaker 2 (39:10):
Gotcha. There's there's one factor that is stopping computers from
being able to go to Windows eleven, and that's the
age of the processor. So are you in front of
your computer right now?

Speaker 5 (39:21):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (39:22):
Okay, So if you're in front of your computer right now,
on your start menu, that the little Microsoft symbol in
the lower left hand corner, Yes, if you right click
on that, so okay, not left click, but a right click.
So we get a little menu that pops up. Yep,
and then like the third or fourth one from the
top is called system. Okay, click on left click on

(39:43):
system and this is going to open Yeah, left click
on system. It's going to open up your your about
control panel, and this is going to have a line
in here that tells you what your processor is. It'll
tell you the name of your processor. Can you read
that to me when it pops up?

Speaker 8 (39:59):
I'm sorry?

Speaker 3 (40:00):
Right click, So I'm putting it over, and let's about
what am I supposed to look at again?

Speaker 2 (40:05):
The processor? It'll tell you. Okay, what does it say
under processor?

Speaker 3 (40:10):
Until our core TM I seven forty seven ninety CPU.

Speaker 2 (40:17):
Okay, so you're you have a you have an I seven,
but it's a fourth generation. That's what the forty seven.
The first number is the generation, so you have a
fourth generation processor. Unfortunately, that is not going to be
Windows eleven compatible. You need at least an eighth generation processor.
So you're you're quite a ways into a not compatible land.
So unfortunately, you're you're probably looking at one of two solutions.

(40:40):
If you have a custom built computer, we could do
a core upgrade where we replace the guts for you
and put new guts in there. If it's like an
HP or a DOLL or something like that, you just
have to replace the whole computer.

Speaker 3 (40:50):
Unfortunately, Okay, and I have two other questions, if I
may ask absolutely. One is we had purchased micro Soft Office.
Are we able to if we just kept this computer offline,
could we continue to use Excel and Word and all
of those offline.

Speaker 2 (41:10):
Yes, yeah, you'll be able to continue to use any
products that are installed on the computer offline. And also,
depending on how old the version is that you've purchased,
if it's still supported by Microsoft, we could actually install
it on your new computer as well.

Speaker 9 (41:24):
Okay, and then you can.

Speaker 2 (41:26):
Continue using it on the new machine as long as
it's it's not too old, essentially sure.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
And then if you're trying to upgrade, if we'd like
to upgrade a computer and buy a laptop, is it
best to wait until the holiday special for the laptop?

Speaker 2 (41:49):
Well, a little birdie has told me that, you know,
with Microsoft doing all this in October, we were like,
we need to do something. We need to have a sale, right,
we need to We can't just be like, no, you
need to buy a computer, you'll pay full price, let's go.
You know, we need to give people a little a little,
a little plusing a little extra. And so one of

(42:10):
the things we're gonna do is we're going to very quietly.
There's not gonna be a catalog. It's not going to
be all over the website. It's not. It'll be on
the website, but it's not going to be like a
future like the holiday special. You'll be able to buy
it in October.

Speaker 3 (42:25):
Well that sounds great.

Speaker 2 (42:26):
Yeah, And we already have the laptops in stock, and
we're working and getting them all built already. So not
only will you be able to buy it in October,
because Windows ten dies in October, you really need to
be able to take it home in October two. So
we got all the computers where we're getting them ready
to go right now. Actually, so yep, you're gonna have
a lot of options to move forward starting starting in October, honestly.

Speaker 3 (42:49):
All right, great, well, thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (42:51):
All Right, hey, thanks for the call, Margaret. I really
appreciate you joining us today. All Right, so guys, we're
gonna have to take one more quick break here before
we wrap up the program. But I want to gover
the cover these seven compromises that you probably missed during
the Apple event, the awe dropping event. All right. Number one,
the iPhone Air, the super Sexy Thin it's a piece

(43:12):
of glass. Literally, it's a piece of glass. They put
it under a bend. You remember Bendgate where everybody's iPhones
were getting bent from But you put them in your
back pocket and you sit on them, and people were like,
I have a phone has a butt curve. You know
what happened? Why is this bent?

Speaker 9 (43:26):
Well?

Speaker 2 (43:26):
Apple insists that the iPhone Air will not bend. They
have a video, dude. The torture test was a one
hundred and seventy five pound weight placed on the center
of the phone, and the phone does bower that under
one hundred and seventy five pounds of pinprick weight in
the middle of the phone, but it doesn't break, and
when the weight is removed, the phone bounces back to

(43:48):
its normal shape. So they promise it's not going to bend.
But it does only have one rear camera. That was
one of the compromises. There's no room for extra cameras
on this phone, and so as a result, with only
one rear camera, you'd think, well, how many cameras do
you need. There's a lot of cool little features that
you may have gotten used to on your Apple phone
because it had a spatial camera as well. A spatial lens.

(44:10):
So in other words, you know how you can hold
up your iPhone and measure something, Well, you can't do
that with the iPhone err it doesn't have a spatial
lens because it only has one camera, so one little
thing that you may miss there. Also, if you're trying
to decide between the seventeen Pro and the seventeen Pro Max,
you know the Max is the one with the giant screen.
The Pro is you know, all the Pro features, but

(44:31):
on the like a normal size screen and cameras is
what you're concerned about. The seventeen Pro and the seventeen
Pro Max have identical camera sets, so the cameras are
the same. Literally, the only difference between those two phones
is the size of the screen and the size of
the battery. So weight and size that's all it is.
So if you're trying to decide, unless you want the

(44:53):
bigger screen, there's no reason to get the Pro Max.
Just get the Pro. Now, if you're on the budget
and you're gonna get an iPhone seventeen and you're gonna
get one for the kids or something, you want the
cheapest one, so you're gonna buy the basic version, the
cheapest iPhone seventeen gets the upgraded front facing camera. It's
an eighteen megapixel which is huge for a front facing camera.
This is the one you're gonna use for FaceTime and

(45:14):
everything else. Huge update to the camera there, So even
the cheapest iPhones get that. So there's no reason to
buy the pro if all you're gonna use it for
is FaceTime and stuff like that. So you know, we
can see we're getting you down into the budget options here. Now,
for the first time in a very long time, there
is no black option. There are no black iPhones this time.
You have cosmic orange, which is actually kind of a

(45:34):
cool fall color. It looks don't make a face, it
looks cool and not a fan cosmic orange. And then
there's there's a navy one and then a white one
as well. So, but the makers of all the cases
online if you go to Amazon and you search for
iPhone seventeen cases, apparently Apple didn't tell everybody there wasn't
gonna be a black one, because every case made for

(45:55):
it is black. So if you want to get your
black and old range like a tar Heels phone, you
know you could do that. Also, the iPhone Air only
transfers data at USB two point zero speeds and it
charges more slowly than the other iPhone. So if you
are somebody whose phone dies a lot, the iPhone Air
is probably not a good bet because they also made,

(46:17):
as I mentioned, a special backup battery just for that phone.
And the only reason you make a special backup battery
only for a one particular model on your line is
because that model's battery blows. So heads up there, you know,
don't do that. If you're gonna look at the AirPods. Three,
they have a new utube chip inside that will allow
you to find your lost earbuds better. It happens to

(46:37):
my wife all the time. Where are my earbuds? Here's
the case, Where are the earbuds? They're not in your
ear so you can use this chip to find your earbuds.
It's kind of nice. And the last one here is
as I mentioned before, there is a new mag safe battery. Yes,
and it's crazy, but it only works on the iPhone Air,
which tells me the iPhone Air's battery probably is not
that hot. So if you're somebody who pushes your phone

(46:58):
to the limits of battery exhaustion daily basis, you might
not want to take a look at the iPhone air
All right, final break at the program. Guys, when we
come back sharing, your call is coming up next on
compute this.

Speaker 5 (47:09):
Everyone has experienced some form of data loss or know
someone who has. It's unfortunate, but sometimes the technology we
rely on simply fails. And the last question you want
to hear at that time is you have a backup?

Speaker 4 (47:21):
Right?

Speaker 5 (47:22):
When you're a hard drive, memory card, backup drive or
flash drive fails, you turn to the data recovery experts
at Shrock Innovations to get those pictures, songs, and memories back.
You know, not all data recovery companies are the same.

pop off your keyboard, or your two year old decides
a glass of milk is exactly what your laptop needs
to cool off, Take it to Shrock and let your
local laptop repair experts.

Speaker 4 (49:24):
Get it back in top shape again.

Speaker 2 (49:30):
All Right, folks, thanks for sticking with us through the hour.
I would buy so fast, but never fear there will
be an aftershock after the program today that will be.
You can find it very easily if you just go
to Facebook dot com slash Shrock Innovations. It may not
pop up in your notifications, it may not show up
on your screen. You may have trouble finding it if

(49:50):
you're just trying to organically scroll through and find it.
But if you go to Facebook dot com Slashrock Innovations
every time, it'll be right there. So what we're going
to talk about, obviously, you know it's been talked to debt. Sorry,
oh that was bad. It's it's been talked about a lot.
But we're gonna we're gonna discuss some reaction to the
Charlie Kirk assassination. Essentially, we're gonna go through and talk

(50:14):
about there's been a lot of weird economic, crypto, interest
rate news in the past few days, so we're gonna
go over some of that as well. So it's it
doesn't sound like a ton to talk about, but I've
got like a million bullet points of things that are
like watch this and watch out for that, and check
out check out this, and check out that. So definitely
stay tuned for the aftershock today after the program. It'll
be when you don't want to miss. So let's go

(50:35):
go back into those phones here. Final caller of the
show today, Sharon, Welcome to the program. How can I
help you today on compute this?

Speaker 9 (50:42):
Uh? Yes, I've been with you guys for quite a
while and I've always been very, very pleased with your
work and everything else like that. But about the last well,
it'll be coming up on four weeks. It's Wednesday. I've
called Papillion and nobody ever answers. No, I leave the messages,
nobody ever calls me back. I've talked to Lincoln and
they're very nice, and they keep telling me calls to

(51:04):
a Papillion, they'll call you back, and they don't. And
I says, well, can you help me out their Lincoln,
And what I need is I live in Murdoch and
so it's a little ways away. And they said, I'm
not in their district. I'm old. I cannot lift a
little computer thing, you know, the big thing, and so
I need somebody to come down to do all this

(51:25):
kind of stuff, and I need an upgrade to eleven.
What do I do?

Speaker 2 (51:30):
Well, first of all, I'm going to apologize to you
because I know exactly what you're talking about, and I
know exactly why it was happening. Essentially, Papilion was running
on half staff. And essentially what our phone system does
is when we can't answer the phone in one service center,
the calls get routed to every other service center in
the company. The phone rings, and so that's why you

(51:51):
were ending up in Lincoln, because you know, if Papillon
only has one person and that person is with the
customer or on the phone, well then you know, the
phone rings to voicemail, and then you leave a voicemail.
But then that person never gets the opportunity to check
the voicemail because they're constantly with a customer or on
a phone call. But the good news here is that
we have fully staffed the Papleon service center. We've got

(52:13):
it all staffed back up. It's really hard to find
the kind of people that we want to hire, and
we really don't want to hire you know, you know
Mirror Fogers, you know, somebody who's just present just so
we can have a human body in there. We don't
want to have that. We want to have someone who's
going to give some great service. We have a new
front desk. His name is Ashan. He's going to do great.
He's doing great work on the front desk there. He's

(52:33):
answering those phones on the first ring every time right now.
The second thing is I'm going to have them go
back through and check for any emails that we're not
returned from the last week or so, just to make
sure that everything is covered and that people like you
are getting a call back, because we definitely if you're
taking the time to call us, we definitely want to
get a hold of you, Sharon. So if you would,
we're open today from noon until five in that Papoleon

(52:54):
Service Center. If you want to give us a call,
we would definitely answer the phone and will definitely help
you out with everything that's going on for your computer.
Thank you very much for taking the time to call
in and let me know what's going on. You know, guys,
it's not always I'm not always looking for like, hey,
we love you thor you know, if there's something going on,
I want to hear about it too, because then we
can fix it. Classic was somebody was calling one of

(53:15):
the old phone number. Used to have four phone numbers
in each service center, so somebody was calling the secondary
number and the old phone system was still hooked up,
but no one was monitoring it. So yeah, if no
one ever tells me that's happening, I never never fix it.
All right, Margaret, Congratulations, you're the winner of the twenty
five dollars Shock Innovations gift certificate. We'll get that out
to you here on Monday. Maybe we'll make Madison do it.

(53:37):
I don't think Madison and Omaha's process one of those yet.
Now Madison can do it, well, we'll send it over
to Madison. Thanks a lot, guys. We'll see you again
for the Aftershock in a few minutes, and next weekend
for another edition of Compute This

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
