uh neurologists. So I was like, wow, I didn't he knew.
I mean, and and Joe, you know, we are always
having you know, Eric issues with Eric and brainhold this
sure and brainhold that. Yeah, And I was surprised that
Eric he had a brain. But uh yeah, but mister Frank,

Want to come back? Man, always on point, brother. Anyway,
we chatted. So the flyer hasn't gone out this week.
Too much business kind of slower here.

Speaker 9 (05:08):
Huh, that's correct, Yeah, charter business. It's been a while.
It's been slow, but yeah, it's been fairly good weather
other than those afternoon rainstorms, and the fishing has been
halfway decent this week. Dolphin are still out there. Just
got to get out there and get lucky and find
the right thing floating or the right patch of weed.

(05:29):
But there's dolphin out there, and the size has gotten
a lot better. So these are mostly fat schoolies, like
five to eight pounders, I'd say, okay, versus just legals.
But they're the same fish we were seeing months ago.
They've just had more time to grow. So it's been
decent dolphin fishing. There's been black men tuna's football, black

(05:52):
fans on some of the deeper structure. You catch them
on jigs and then late in the afternoon or if
it's overcast, they've been popping up to the surface. You
can get them on live baits or trolling small feathers
and little lures. But I would say most of the
black fins are like eight to ten pounders, so not huge,

(06:15):
but big enough. But there's been a lot of banitas. Yeah,
I'll take it all day long. A lot of banitas
mixed in with them, so you gotta The ratio has
been about five banitas to every tuna. But I'll gladly
take that because banitas are fun to wind in for
a little while. At least.

Yeah, yes, I remember that recipe you.

Had by Eric yesterday. A hair Yeah, bad air anyway, Okay,
sorry about the bandas amongst the scattered tuna, there's.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Gotta be feeding off those two things. Man, if there's small.

Speaker 9 (06:59):
There's been a few while who's caught not by me,
but there's been a few while who's caught on the planers.
I haven't heard of any big ones, but any while,
who's pretty good wahoo in my book, So yes, there
is always a chance in the wahoo. And if you
are trolling your planer or lures around those schools of

(07:20):
bonitas and tunas. Yes, you do stand a good chance
to catch in the wahoo. What has been happening is
there's been a ton of bait coming down, mullets, pilchers,
ballely who. So the bait runs bait migration is going
off right now, and these schools of mullet are coming

(07:40):
down the beach and then they're swimming into the inlets
like Government Cut or Halliver Inlet as they work their
way south. And there's been a ton of inshoal fish
chasing these mullets and the pilchers for that matter, snook, tarpin,
big jacks. That's when they're coming down the beach sharks, barracudas,

(08:03):
and when those baits are coming into the bay, all
the bay fish are starting to feed on them, the
snook and the tarpin, mangrove snappers. So you know, the
inshore fishing has been really good. I've been doing some
of that in my little boat, having some really good
success on mutt, snappers on a sort at jacks, yellow jacks,

(08:23):
which are great eating. If we can find the bait,
we can catch the fish. And the bait has not
been an issue the last couple of weeks or last
week and a half. So it's pretty decent fishing, both
inshore and offshore, which every way you want to go.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
So no bait and no charters. That's a really fine
week to kick off you.

Speaker 9 (08:44):
I said, there's plenty of bait, said, there's much. You're headphone,
you better check his pulse. I'm not sure what's you know?

Speaker 4 (09:01):
You know what it is, Jimbo, He's.

Yeah, just a fun day. I got a trip tomorrow,
and so we're gonna kind of kind of scout out
and see maybe if some areas to try.

I actually had a couple of blast me this because
you are the guy when it comes to snakeheads and
pretty much that whole exotic scene.

What's your setup when you go on a charter?

Speaker 5 (17:10):
Like, and I'm not just talking about your rod, I'm
talking about in general, because like when you take out
that jomboat or whatever you got, like, how do you
set that up?

Speaker 22 (17:20):
So pretty much what I do is I've got a
I've got an eighty pound thrust troll the motor. I
got a twenty four bolt listium battery, which is very light.
It's only twenty four pounds, okay, compared to what I
had back in the day, where I had two a
GM batteries that weighed sixty pounds and I used to

lug that stuff around, which is some of the stuff
I did was I think I was nuts. But yeah,
I got a liftium battery last all day, you know,
and usually on a I you know, because the place
that I'm going or they're more secluded areas and you're
not getting in with a bigger boat and stuff. So

you know, I'm I'm going in a twelve fourteen foot
john boat and you know, getting into these areas that
a lot of people can't, you know, for the most part.
I mean some people can, but but.

Mostly that.

Speaker 22 (18:18):
And you know, got a net, got a bunch of
rods and you know and gear. I mean it's pretty
simple setup. It's nothing really too fancy.

Speaker 5 (18:26):
And what about your rods, Like when you're out there,
you have one rod set up for the snakehead or
two and then one for a long say, yeah, you
see like a you know, a cloud owner.

Speaker 22 (18:37):
Yeah, I got it where it's you know, I got
a you know, a top arter rod, you know, a
frog swim bait and I got to play chatter bait
or a spinner bait rod. And then yeah, I've got
you know, a spinning rod or something for you know,
a rod set up for a clown knight for sure,
a peacock bass depending on where we where we go,
and you know that's basically or maybe even something for

a large mouth too. But then you could do with
the jerk bait too, so right.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
So just a quick question.

Speaker 6 (19:07):
For sure, you definitely approve on the lithium ion battery
much better than those a GM batteries for for the
fishing day.

Speaker 22 (19:16):
I so, if I would say for a gms are good,
they're good batteries, they're just they're very heavy.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
Because I have the gyms and they've been okay, But yeah.

Speaker 22 (19:26):
They're No, they're good batteries. I mean, they they last,
they last a long time.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
It's just in my.

Speaker 22 (19:31):
Situation where I have to continue to move the boat
and maybe you know, in a day's time, I may
have to move to two to three spots. You know,
moving two sixty pound batter or sixty pound batteries is
you know, it takes a lot. You know, it's a
lot to do, and it's a pain. It's a pain.
So it's easier to use the lithium, which is lighter. Plus,
if you're gonna buy a lithium, buy an American maid.

Don't buy the Chinese made ones. The Chinese made ones.

Those are the ones.

Those are the ones. Those are the ones that blow up,
you know, the are they you know, catch on fires.

Speaker 4 (20:03):
They're not the ones you might get them might not
be that good blow up exactly.

Wait that's happening that Yeah.

Yeah, yeah, I saw bunts with batteries and I've gotten
off the eight g ms, which are as Corey mentioned,
are very heavy, large batteries, and got my clients more
on lithium batteries. It's just a greater, happier clients. Serh,
happier clients. Man, I got better batteries longer now.

The price point lithium is a little bit more, but
it's worth.

Speaker 3 (20:29):
The stris what you pay for it. Yeah, you're definitely
your money's worth Yeah, definitely, all right, Corey. So cool,
very cool, set up that good question. Jill, by the way,
that's very nice on lately. But for your question, so
snake heads of the target today, petcock, clown, knife fish,
a combination of all or what.

Yeah, we're gonna try for all, maybe even a large
maybe some large mouth and uh, you know, depending where
I venture to, maybe a tarp.

Hey, after all these years I'm doing this stuff. Man,
every time you get a hook up or the road
beds it gets hit hard, you still get that really
big juiced excitement and every time you get a hit
makes you really still fired up. After all this, this
type of doing it.

Speaker 22 (21:11):
It's really it's only when it's a big one that,
to be honest with you, that's big. I'm not into
catching two hundred small ones or you know, a ton
of small ones. I'm looking to catch one big one
and I'm happy. So that's really what gets me fired up.
Or or if it's you know, it's something different. You know,
if you catch something new or different, that's you know,

that's cool too, But it's big fish for me. That's
that's what I'm into.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
I see guys on live who are really into this
crappy fishing, crappy whatever. Yeah, it's catching brim. I mean,
how much fun could it be to take a little
tiny hook and a bobber and catch these a little
croppy or brim? What's the excitement in that? By the way,
I don't get it.

Speaker 22 (21:50):
It's it's you know, well they a a they are
great to eat. I will catch a bunch of those.

Speaker 9 (21:57):
Boy.

Speaker 22 (21:58):
That's that's probably my one of my favorite fish to
eat fresh water that he can't beat a some crappie.
But if you get into a school of him, man,
you get into a bunch of them, it's one after
the other. I mean it's like you catch him, you
drop right back catch him. I mean, it's like one
after there. It's fun. It's it's fun on ultra light stuff.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
Well, you're specially catching small fish, so for you to
be like a little nugget the big bowl, you know.

Speaker 22 (22:21):
Yeah, yeah, but hey, I need something to eat, I'll
I'll go and do it. It's fun.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
You ever heard of a guy online? Guys, I've followed
this guy lately. His name is Stale Cracker. You see
this guy, Stale cracked, Stale Cracker at Louisiana. This guy
is the most craziest, fun, amazing tattle guy.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
Why don't you get him on the show man?

Speaker 3 (22:42):
Actually try speak and he'll go out and catch his
last show, last post. He's actually crappy fishing, and he'll
scale him right, he'll take the head off got him.
And he has a special combination of fish battery puts
a bit right right, And he starts by eating the tail.
He goes, This tail's clearly crunchy like a potato chip,

(23:04):
and it'll just bite off the back of the tail
of the crappie and devour the whole damn thing. So
Stale Cracker actually he was on check this out. He
was on the Papa Wahoo last week filming George George
Clark's boat the Keys Right, good friend, Skip Rady. So
it all kind of comes full circle here, it does,
of course, I get off point. I'm sorry Corey anyway,

area outside there south Beach. Most of the bad weather goes.
We watch it from off shorts. It's kind of cool.

You'll see it behind and keep us gay in the
distance and you'll see it behind Miami. Then you'll see
it knocked the crap out of Miami, and then it
goes right up north to Haulover and usually goes out
up there and kills everybody. But we get one out
of every I don't know, six or eight, I guess
come out and get us pretty good. But it's like
anything else in South war Worth, the weather, you just

(31:20):
you can run through it, or you wait a little
while and sunny.

When I hear Sunday, we might get a little bit
of a little bumpy stuff for a little bit.

Yeah, we may, you know, we're just we're all watching
that stuff kind of like I like it when things
like that come by. And I'll tell you that I've
fished after I don't know how many as many hurricanes
you can count in fifty two or three years, whatever
it is.

I've been a captain and yeah, we used to be all.

Speaker 33 (31:44):
Yeah, taking care of your boats and things like that
is of course the most important thing. But the coolest
thing is it really stirs up the ocean. And I
can remember having catches after hurricane.

They'll blow you away.

Speaker 33 (31:56):
I mean catching five six pound yellow tails off right
off downtown Miami after after one of those storms.

Speaker 7 (32:02):
I think it was the Cow Storm if I'm not mistaken,
you know, but.

I told you about that finding.

Speaker 33 (32:12):
You know, after the hurricane, all the guys are just
dying for the stuff to come floating this way, all
the roofs from the little shacks and all those little
islands they come off off of. Flora's the greatest dolphin
fishing in the world when you got all that kind
of cover out there. But it does push bottom fish,
and I'm nobody knows really why, but it definitely happens.

Speaker 7 (32:33):
The barometer has a lot to do with the way
they move.

Speaker 33 (32:36):
One of the last storms that that got us here
eight or ten years ago got us pretty good. We
bounced office, you know, down our coast a bit on
the east side. We had eighteen legal groupers in a
half day trip. Uh wow, yeah, eighteen I caught. I
caught seven of them on a jig jig with a
rubber worm on the back and I kept handing my

(32:56):
rod off, you know. But but yeah, eighteen red all reds,
all red groupers. But yeah, a lot of them pushed
and they they end up and they end up on
ledges and things like that. I've seen it happen with
muttons too. We caught hundreds of mutton snappers after after
one years ago. We were catching them out of Miami
two at a time, three to six pounds that we

(33:18):
had well, you know, we had limits limits on them
on the.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
Pushing for a hurricane. Believe me, we're not wishing for one.
But if what happened to hit, there's some residual benefits
to it.

Speaker 7 (33:28):
Sure, no, no, no, you don't wish for the hit.
You wish you know, it's like.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
The near mind near miss.

Speaker 7 (33:34):
Yeah, excuse me, the near hit. Yeah, what was that?

got whacked, right, Yeah, there you go. So no, no, no,

What you know, we were just back right now. It's
just been steady pick a steady pick of fish. We've
been netting a mullet in the marina. We got live
maddel to use. We cut some small amberjacks. Yesterday we
had a few kingfish and mutton snappers, a little bit
of this, a little bit of that, a few yellow tails.
We did catch some really nice dolphins in the day
before and we had a Hey, you know what I like?

(34:31):
It's dirty green water out to five hundred feet kind
of there's like no current, it's all still. You know,
it's not not real clean looking on the surface. I
think it's fresh water. I think they finally opened up
all the locks. But right in the middle of nowhere
we got three six to ten pounds dolphin on. I mean,
how much do you love that just out of nowhere?
It's beautiful. That's a beautiful thing. So there's definitely been

(34:54):
a handful more dolphin around two even. Some of the
guys told me, I know, somewhere out there there's an edge.
If you really got you got the small bull, you're
gonna run and get outside that green stuff. You'll find
some pretty purple water. You may have to go a bit,
but I'm sure you'll find it. But yeah, for us,
we're fishing flat, calm weather every day. We're bending rods
as best we can. Some trips are okay, some aren't okay,

(35:14):
and you know that's just it's fishing well and people
are having fun.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
That's what counts.

Awesome, man. I mean, that's a pretty solid. How about
any wahoo or anything like that?

Speaker 7 (35:22):
You know, we troll We lost a possible yesterday. We
were about six.

Hundred feet and we had we had a planer out
with the with the sea witch in the strip and
they had a really nice fish on but he ate
it unfortunately, you.

Yeah, well, you know what, everybody gets into this, these
things about how to do things, and when something works
for someone, they spread the word. Like using thirty pound
flour o carbon trolling for Wahoo's on a planer. I'm
a little more old school. I'd rather see a little
piece of five wire on there, you know, a couple
of feet maybe, you know, because at least the outside

(36:00):
chance you're going to get the bite is one thing.
But the chance Wahoo's eat the eat spoons. You can
catch fifty kingfish on a spoon, but to wahoo and
one of them will eat it. So but yeah, so
any anyway, that's a matter of of of discussion for
another day.

I guess the way we're going to rock the clocker, man,

off a lot of hell by the sea. And I

can tell you the impressive part is the third reef
has been pretty solid. The guys are limiting out and
I like the second reef, so I came in a
little shallower and it was it was nice again. No
clusters of lobster yet. All right, but here's you know,
I heard there's a storm out there.

Speaker 3 (38:46):
That's what I hear. All right, all right, baby, they're walking.
Then there you go. There, you walk this way, walk
this way.

Speaker 34 (38:54):
So it depends. You know, we've got to have some
atmospheric change. It's not just the wind and the rough
seas and all other stuff. We've got to have sort
of that low pressure. And again it doesn't have to
we don't want to direct it. We and a way
this is supposed to go. So it's to kind of
be through the Bahamas and go north of us. So

(39:14):
you know, the next couple three or four days is
gonna be kind of ugly. But after that, man, if
it settles down real nice, get out there because you'll
find them. I mean, in ten feet of water in
the sand walking. I mean, it's just it's an impressive
site to see. And this time of year, you know,
it's coming up on October, post season of baseball. We

(39:37):
got you know, a pretty decent storm right off shore.
So I think we're gonna be okay. I think we're
gonna see some bugs walking around and clustering together. That's
the that's the beauty of you know what. We're gonna
you know, hit here and not too bad, you know,
And again fish fish are gonna be confused. They don't

(39:58):
even know where the heck they are because everything's been
moved around. So I'm looking forward to getting past this.
That's tomorrow. We canceled for tomorrow. It's just gonna be
too rough. But then the final weekend should be nice
too shape it up. So I think we're maybe next
Thursday we'll get out again. Things will settle down, and

(40:18):
I think we're gonna be good.

Now that being said, more, in the first twenty feet
you jump in the water, it is green, green, and
ugly green. That fresh water has been pumped out and
I mean causing all kinds of ugly stuff out there.
But once you get under that twenty foot and you
get down and we were playing around sixty foot sixty

(40:41):
and then up to forty Thursday, and it's not bad.
It's a thirty foot of visibility, which is how very
very gentle south current. Water temperature is eighty six, so
it's been eighty eight, so that fresh water is a
little cooler. And you know, when you jump in and

(41:01):
fresh water goes good, you can't see ten feet. It's
a little different. So but get once you get underneath it,
it's fine.

Speaker 20 (41:08):

Speaker 34 (41:09):
Buddies of mine are catching the mahi off shore.

Speaker 9 (41:12):
It was flat.

Speaker 34 (41:14):
They were out Thursday and I don't know, a thousand
feet of water deep deep blue water flat and schools
of mahi. So they did really really well. Or on
a rod and a reel, on a rod and reel,
and you wished he had his spear gun because it's

(41:34):
so much fun is jumping in the water and spearing
them mahi because it's just your mass and oracle fins.
But that won't we won't go there, we won't go there.
It's just a blast because you got guys catching on
what rodding reel, you're bringing the school into the boat.
They're all around you jump in. You know, you got
to really pay attention because fish are flying everywhere. It's

(41:55):
a lot of fun, it really is. But that that's gone,
it'll make baby lay down here another good week or two.
But yeah, I'm looking forward to after the storm comes
past us and hopefully we get a little bit of movement.

Of these lobsters.

But yeah, so far, so good. Everybody limited out on
Thursday on the LADYG Diver, which is really good. All
the hunters, all the hunters limited out and that was
I don't know about a dozen of us hunting.

So it's pretty decent question for you. So that parimetric
pressure changes with that storm, maybe brushing the coast the rails,
it makes the lobsters get a little cuckoo.

Speaker 35 (42:33):
Right.

Speaker 3 (42:33):
Let's say you're walking the beach and your flip flops
with the else. If you happen to look into the water,
can you actually spot them off the beach? You can?

Speaker 34 (42:41):
Absolutely, yeah. And it's funny because the Deer Deerfield Beach
and pomp and all the piers both have cameras all right,
So that would be one of the ways that we
would know that they're walking because you can see them
on the cameras and the fishermen are catching them off
the pier.

Speaker 6 (43:02):
That's about the second time a captain has said they
use the cameras on the beach to ye about what's
going on.

Speaker 34 (43:08):
Very cool. Yeah, yep, yep, yep, yep. And I'm talking
ten feet of water. It's really shallow stuff. They're not
in the reefs. They're in the sand, and they're they're
walking one behind the other. It's it's really uh. I mean,
the largest queue that I saw was probably a good
eighty of them. But then you start to disturb them. Yeah,

(43:29):
eighty eighty lobsters in a row. That's delicious.

Speaker 3 (43:33):
You know, if you pluck one out of that marching
line that march straight, there's a leader. It just follows
the leader, right, So if you pluck one out of
that massive amount of lobsters, they kind of like reform
up again the.

Speaker 34 (43:46):
Exactly the exactly what they do. Yep, they go back
in line again. They over here over here, they're going
north all the time, and and all of a sudden,
now now instead of that eighty you've got and you've
got ten, and you got fifteen, but they're marching one
behind it and they're going pretty quickly. They're up on
their legs and they're marching and they're touching the guy

in front of them, so you try to get behind
them instead of in front of them, so that way,
you know. But then then sometimes they'll actually like circle
the wagons if they feel threatened, so you'll literally see
them in a circle. It's really impressive. Hopefully hopefully next.

talking to some guys and they're just not doing well with.

Floodgate and same thing goes in. Saltwater you, know those
