A Morning Breeze, Caroline McCardell CourtJohnson. It is six oh six,
Good morning, Court, Good morning, Happy Wednesday, Happy Wednesday. Big
night tonight for our Golden State Warriors. It's not just a big night,
(00:24):
it's do or die. This isa do or die night tonight. So
this is Game five against the Lakers. It will be played at the Chase
Center. So it's going to bebusy downtown in San Francisco. Giants have
a day game, so it'll belike the Giants game getting out as the
fans for the Warriors are coming intotown. It's going to be that whole
South of Market area where we happento work. We happen to work,
(00:45):
and I happen to live, andyou happen to live. It's going to
be hopping. What do you thinkabout that now that you are you've been
here for a couple of weeks livinghere in San Francisco, do you love
the vibe? I totally love it. And when the Giants are in town
are at home. Just everybody's convergingon the neighborhood early hours ahead of the
They're going to the bars and therestaurants. It's just great. That's actually
(01:07):
what one of the things I lovethe most is how the neighborhood sort of
comes alive. And it makes meso happy for all the bar and restaurant
owners because everyone else has left SanFrancisco, as you've heard in the news,
so to know that people are comingin and there's going to be that
sort of that vibe in the southof market, it's going to be great.
So so Warriors need to do ittonight. So we're sending our our
(01:29):
good thoughts to them and we hopethey pull it off. And we have
good news for you tomorrow and youcan reach us at eight seven seven nine
eight one h nine eight one comingup on the show. Take your ticket
back again at eight o five thismorning. Yeah, Matchbox twenty Rod Stewart,
I need a baker. Tickets upfor grabs. We've been doing this
all week. It's it's a toughchoice, but it's yours. I think
it is yours, and thank goodness, it's yours and not ours because every
(01:53):
day I change my mind. Well, today I want to go see Rod
Stewart. Well, now I wantto see Anita Baker well a matchbox twenty

can spend that however you'd like.So we'll do that at eight twenty five
this morning on the Breeze. Andnow we'll look at our Forecats six twenty
(02:15):
six. That is the ROBERTA.Flack on the Bay's number one for relaxing
favorites for your morning, ninety eightpoint one The Breeze, A Morning Breeze,
Caroline mccartell, Court, Johnson Court. As you get to know me,
as we are working together here onthe show, I will tell you
one of my sort of habits onthe weekend, or ways that I treat
myself on the weekend is I willgo to Starbucks in the summer months,
(02:38):
get a nice iced coffee on aSaturday if I'm driving up to Sacramento for
the Rivercats or whatever, take aroad coffee with me. Sure, and
I love it. But I willsay, as anybody knows that goes to
Starbucks or Peats or any coffee chainDutch bros. That it's getting expensive to
those coffees four five, sometimes sixdollars easily for a coffee. Now my
(03:04):
sort of hack that I do everytime I go to Starbucks to get more
coffee as I order light ice.Ah, Caroline, the old light ice
move. Yes, I have afifteen year old daughter, Sloan. Yes,
that's a classic Sloan move. Really, yeah, because you love Sloan
already. You're getting more beverage. That's exactly it. You're getting more beverage
because I feel like, if I'mpaying this much, don't load me up
(03:27):
with ice. I'm here for thecoffee, so light ice, I get
more drink. Clearly, Sloan, your daughter Court and I are on the
same page, right. But thenI was reading that Starbucks is going to
start charging for light ice and nowater in their refresher drinks. And but
then you came in this morning andsaid, well that has since changed.
That was supposed to start yesterday.Yeah, I know the social media rumors
(03:52):
are swirling about that. So Starbuckshas clarified some of it. They're not
going to charge for the light icemove. So you're lucky there, sweet
and Sloane. Yeah, but theyare saying that if you do the refresher
drinks with no water, they willcharge a dollar because they have to add
something into its place. I guessthat's it's something that's being substituted and it's
(04:12):
actual ingredient change as opposed to justyou know, not putting in as much
ice inside the refresher drinks. Arethe aren't those the big pink ones like
the dragon fruit? Are those? The colorful one? Colorful one? I
can't imagine not having ice in those. I feel like that would just be
straight sugar like it would be sointense. But or water, well,
I'm not sure what the substitute is. There is yea extra lemonade? Yeah
(04:33):
maybe maybe I don't know, butyeah, so prices at Starbucks. This
was going to start yesterday. They'regoing to change things up a little bit.
But if you're a light ice personlike me and apparently like your fifteen
year old daughter, because we're thesame, sure that that will not be
a factor. So we'll share moreon this on our Facebook page at ninety
eight one the Breeze And by theway, that no water, I don't
(04:56):
know if you mentioned this, youprobably did a dollar per drink. The
dollar So she's the way. Yeah, more relaxing favorites on the way.
We're going to play something for youfrom the cars and we've got got a

eight point when the Breeze A morningBreeze, Caroline mccartell, Court Johnson,

nine eight one h nine eight one. This is the time of the morning
when you call us and you say, hey, Court, Hey Carolyn,
(06:46):
this is what's happening in my life. That's good, And then we put
you on the radio and let youhave bragg all about it. Brighter Side
sponsored by Shriven Company, Luxury timepieces, fine designers and flawless diamonds and
we've got Solly in Castro Alley onthe line. So you've got something going
on at school, is that right? I recently had rock history as a
class, and we learned so manygreat rock and roll legends and it was
(07:10):
just a blast. Where was yourrock history class? It was at Shabou
College. I think that what wascool was learning the twenties and up.
We basically got to see how everybodystarted learning how to dance. In the
fifties, people still just sat intheir chairs and clapped when Jerry Lee Lewis
performed, and they'd clapped and didthis thing in the air, and then
(07:31):
eventually people were getting up, youknow, and rocking out. It's really
cool because you can choose between humanitiesand arts, and I was just like,
well, this would be an awesomeone to choose. All right,
soy, thank you so much forcalling. Have a good day. Thank
you. Yeah, it's really interestingto think about just the evolution of music
and how it's changed through the decadesand things compound on each other. But
(07:54):
I kind of feel like, toSally's point, I'm sort of stuck in
the fifties because I'm more of achaired answer, great, chair dancer,
but if I have to actually standup and dance like a normal person,
not my strongest point. Yeah,I recently saw a video of me dancing
with my daughter. Dad dance,Oh Dad dance. That's cringeworthy, but
I love that. And especially beingNational Teacher Appreciation Week, that Sully called
(08:18):
in and wanted to shout out herclass and her teacher. So that's awesome,
Sully, thank you. And ifyou have a brighter side for us
eight seven seven nine eight one hnine eight one coming up at eight oh
five this morning. Yeah, it'syour chance to pick your ticket. We've
got matchbox twenty Rod Stewart and AnitaBaker tickets to choose from. So fun,
so we'll do that in under anhour from now eight o five year
a chance to pick your ticket onthe Breeze seven twenty four on the base
(08:43):
number one for relaxing favorites for yourmorning ninety eight point one The Breeze Morning
Breeze Caroline McCardell and Court Johnson andCourt. This being Teacher Appreciation Week,
there is a list that came outfrom our friends at Cafe Mom who were
talking about the best ways that wecan thank our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week,
(09:05):
and I think there are some surpriseson this list. Yeah, it's
really interesting because you know, Ireally think teachers are underappreciated. I think
a lot of people would agree withthat. And so little simple things that
can be done, not just thisweek, which again is Teacher Appreciation this
week, but man, it canbe done throughout the year. It's probably
a good thing to do. It'ssort of like my Valentine's Day theory,
where I feel like Valentine's Day shouldn'tbe celebrated on one day, it should
(09:28):
be every day. Sure, Sowhen it comes to your teachers, and
this is according to this list, what teachers are saying they would like,
food is at the top of thelist. She said. She this teacher
in particular, always loves it whenparents offer to buy her lunch and enjoys
being surprised with treats like coffee ortea or a cookie or a cupcake.
There we go. I'm thinking aboutthe lunch thing, though. Are they
(09:52):
showing up at the school cafeteria islike, hey, let me buy you
something there? Now? They wantmilk, Yeah, they want pizza,
a slice of pizza, a milkor cheese, zombie and a coke.
Yeah, no, they want lunch. Lunch. Also school supplies, so
you come in, you offer agift card or some school supplies. That's
super helpful, as we know alot of teachers end up buying their own
supplies. Oh yeah, so that'son the list. And then there was
(10:13):
something from the heart, which Ilove this. A handwritten note from a
student goes a long way, oreven a parent, you know, just
write a note and say thank you. It totally does. Now I do
know, Carolyn, my school districtthat my daughters go to actually has a
no gift policy in place. I'mnot exactly sure. I think they want
just that if there's going to begift giving, that it's done evenly.
(10:35):
So they coordinate it through the PTA, the Parent Teacher Association, So gift
giving can happen, but it's donethrough the organization so that you know,
it's you know a little more evenwe kind of ignored it, you know,
and there's a great teacher that youwant to appreciate. We always did
it. But volunteering has always beenone of those things where I think,
like anybody can do it, doesn'tcost you anything. But your time and
(10:56):
you're there in the classroom, andI think that's important. I saw that
on this list, and they're talkingabout volunteering where you come in and you
staple paper packets, or you makecopies or you cut out things for projects
like that helps teacher. So thereare so many different ways. It doesn't
have to be a financial contribution. It could just be your time and that
makes a difference. So great list. We're going to share it on our
Facebook page at ninety eight one theBreeze. If you're a teacher, thank
(11:20):
you and happy National Teacher Appreciation Week. And if there's something that you want
to share with the Breeze audience thatyou think, you know would open some
eyes like hey, actually we reallyneed this or we would like this or
appreciate this, let us know again. Eight seven to seven nine eight one

appreciate your teacher. Things you cando for them to give back this week
and frankly all year. Yeah, you can either bring them foods, school
supplies, volunteer in the classroom, all different ways to show appreciation to our
(12:24):
teachers. Dennis and Sam Mateo,Hi, good morning. One of the
best teachers I ever had was anEnglish teacher in my senior year of high
school. Took me from an anA and F to an A. How
did she do that? Billy? What were you doing that? You had
an F? Well, but yoursemester of English the flu you Yeah,
(12:50):
so ditching's not good. That's yep. Confirmed, there's the takeaway. That's
a takeaway. Don't ditch class oneshow up. Yeah, what was her
name? Her name was Barbara Wolsey. Barbara Wolsey. Oh, that's so
sweet of you to call and giveher some love on the air. Thank
(13:11):
you all right, Dennis, Thankyou so much for listening. Thank you.
An F two an A. That'squite a teacher and that's quite a
dedication. It is, Carolyne. And you think about it like this teacher
identified him as needing special attention andgave it to him. And that's one
of many things I think that areso special about teachers and why I love
that we have a week to shoutour teachers out and to recognize them and
(13:33):
to tell them that we appreciate them, and to help get them gifts as
well. We're going to share thelist of things that teachers want, what
they would like from you. Ifyou're looking to do something special for your

Yeah, I had something happened tome the other day when I went
to I went to the Sea Guardiansof the Galaxy at the movie theater the
Metrion. So I went there.I was writing up the escalators and I'm
(16:12):
not sure if I did the rightthing, So you need to tell me
if if I didn't writing the escalators. A woman gets on in front of
me, then me, and thenthis guy comes up kind of close behind
me on the on the escalator ridegoing up, it's kind of a court
sandwich going on. I'm right therein the middle, right, but I'm
off, I'm off kind of tothe side. Yeah. And if you've
been to the Metrion, you knowthere's several escalators you have to go everywhere.
(16:34):
Yeah. Yeah, So I'm goingup there on the last flight of
stairs. The man behind me leansforward and starts dusting some fluff off of
the backside of this woman in frontof you in front of me. So
again I'm there in the middle,so he's kind of leaning up, and
I'm like, he leans around youto dust her. I was kind of
kind of do the side, likeI always try to pick a side on
(16:56):
an escalator or give people space. So she was on the left, so
I went to the right, andthen he was on the left, but
he was kind of close up there, but close enough that he could reach
up and got it. And I'mjust like what. She turns around instantly
looks at me and then realizes it'snot me and looks at the guy,
and then she's like okay. Sowe get to the top of the escalator.
I'm like, what is going on? So finally I'm just like,
(17:18):
I gotta say something. So Ilook at him and I'm like, do
you too know each other? Andshe's like, oh, oh, I'm
sorry, that's my husband. SoI had I had inadvertently heading towards the
escalators separated this couple getting on theescalator. I got it, he noticed
the fluff was getting rid of thefluff. And but then but then she
(17:40):
stopped and said, thank you somuch for being concerned. Oh wow,
because you know, we live ina world where like don't want to say
things sometimes, and but crazy thingshappened in public, and I felt obligated
to make sure that she was okay. So Carolyn, it was that the
appropriate thing? Yes, of yeah, I'm putting myself in her situation,
(18:03):
like what would I have done ifif that had happened? And then a
quote unquote stranger right, Ka CourtJohnson had asked me, you know,
do do you know each other?I would have been very appreciative that someone
was looking out for me. Yeah, so you did the right thing.
That's good to know because I alsothink about what if they hadn't known each
other? What would you we wouldI have done done? Yeah? Would
(18:25):
you be in jail right now?Or would you be on the breeze.
I mean it's going to go ona two ways. Great questions, all
right, question right makes me feelbetter, Thank you, Carolyn. But
for the for the husband to havenot said anything to you, that's what's
weird to me that he didn't say, oh, that's my wife. I
like, you just did it withoutthat. That's where I kind of have
some questions. Just so casual.Ah, once again proving Court Johnson a
good guy and welcome to the breeze. Thank you. It's perfect. It's
