(00:00):
As we start the recording of thisepisode of the podcast, I noticed that
you already sneezed. Yeah, you'reyou're you have like a little bit of
congestion. Yeah. And if you, as we've talked about before, you
and I are the same, especiallyliving in Fresno, that allergy situation and

(00:20):
the springtime is so bad. DidI tw this? How? I looked
this up on a list of whereFresno lands as the worst places to live
for allergies, and we're actually likeon the top one hundred cities at number
seventy. I think I believe it. That's like that. I feel like
that's pretty high because even about allthe cities in the country, in Fresno's
in the top one hundred. Livinghere for all these years, we were
always prepared with it with our youknow, we we have pills here in

(00:43):
our office that we keep in theclosets, man just in case. But
I noticed that again, you know, you were just sneezing right before we
started. And Bro, I toldyou about the shot that you get at
your doctors. So here's the funnything. I didn't tell you this,
but I was actually went to thedoctors a couple of days ago for my
physical and I had on my listlike, let me ask them about this

(01:06):
shot that you're talking about, andI fucking forgot. I forgot, butts,
I do have a follow up appointmentin a few weeks, so I
need to remember whatever this miracle shotyou got is. I need that,
bro, I told you what threemaybe it's I think it's been a month
now when I told you I gotmine. Ye game change or this whole
spring, I've been good. Youeven got your smell back. Yeah,

(01:29):
you know. I got COVID whatover a year ago? Over a year
ago, and I was one ofthose guys that lost my smell and taste,
and I went after the shot thenext day I got full taste,
full smell back, like some miracleshot. That's crazy. So it's that
allergy shot. You just tell thedoctor your symptoms and they have a shot

(01:52):
for it. And man, sowhat a spring is almost over? Yeah?
And I was good this whole springbecause of this shot. And usually
you can hear it sometimes on thepodcast. Yes, and there was times
right after like pass you tissue duringthe podcast, Um, and we haven't
had that issue. You sounded thehell of clear. So I believe in

(02:13):
whatever shot you too. I meanjust sleeping better, just breathing, I
could just tell. So there,I'm this shot is gonna happen every year
for me. Um. A quickstory, A funny story about the shot
is I was telling my doctor ifI could get one. He was like,
yep, um, we'll take careof that right now. So he
leaves the room. Yeah, andso I take off. It was cold

(02:35):
at the time, so I waslike wearing my sweater. I take off
my sweater, get my arm ready, and he walks and he was like,
oh no, you gotta pulled outyour pants off one of the ass
shots. Um. But let's getto the episode because it actually has something
to do with this doctor in hisoffice. Okay, so yeah, let's
let's jump into it. This cangive me fire podcasts. What up?

(03:04):
I'm jizo that it's John Magic andwe are back. So we want to
talk about ambiance, vibe of justdifferent places that we go to. Does
it matter, does it bother us? If? Does the environment matter?
The environment the esthetic of like howthe count you know, how they organize
their furniture and offices, restaurants, table selections of where the tables are doesn't

(03:29):
matter, and I think the answeris yes to me. Oh yeahs vibe
matters, you know what. Justthinking about it right now and about what
we're gonna go into because I knowme and you were going to agree a
lot about it is. It's probablyhas a lot to do with our OCD
on why these things matter. Yeah, Like we always talk about energy and

(03:53):
sometimes you're right, when the environmentis off, the anxiety goes up.
Yeah, of like, oh doI want to be here? And I
wanted to you know, we werejust talking about my doctor's visit gain the
allergy shot. I just recently gota new doctor. Um. I was
just looking up we have, youknow, our benefits website where it says

(04:15):
look for a provider and it kindof gives you like these ones that work
with our insurance. Yeah, andI've been wanting to find a new a
new what is it? What arethey call? Just a general doctor?
Yeah, practicing doctor. So yeah, so I just you know, I
don't I can't tell with just thephone numbers and the location of how it
is so well, actually no,the location I chose is because it's like

(04:40):
in a nicer part of town onHerndon around you know the north side,
that side. Why do they havethese on Yelp? I wonder if they
do. They probably do, right, Like, if you just looked up
that doctor on yelp, you mightsee photos of the didn't do that.
I just thought about that right now, because I know, I know when
we think of yelp, we justthink of restaurants, but they do have
businesses on their as well. Thatmight be a good thing to check out.

(05:01):
So, um, I get that, I find this address. I'm
like, Okay, this is agood part of town. I'm gonna hit
this up. And you know, you call and you're like, hey,
is the doctor taking new patients?Yeah, I want you to be the
new my new doctor. So theytook me in and I went from my
first visit and I remember calling youon my first visit. Were you having

(05:23):
anxiety when you call? Yes?So I walk into the office and the
furniture is just it's beyond out outout What is it out of date where
it's just old brown musty Yeah,um, I mean no offense. But

(05:44):
you know, like Grandmas and Grandpa'sused to like they decorated the place just
that dirty brown color. The carpetswere just the old style carpets. It
didn't look modern at all. TheTV was all bad about the magazines,
like just kind of thrown there onthe table, just like that. It

(06:04):
still had that that corner of theoffice with them where the kids section with
those old toys there. What isthat called? Yeah, why, I
don't want to say an epicus. That's not Yeah, yeah, that's like
those those style of toys. Yea, yeah, man, that's so it's
funny. That's really nostalgic to me. And I remember being a kid and

(06:27):
like wanting to play with those. But I always remember my parents would tell
me no because it was like othersick kids were playing with those, so
it made sense. But I remember, like, why do I want to
play? It's so dumb. Youjust take that little block and then you
just move it around. H Yeah. Yeah, it's hard to explain,
but if you look it up,you know what we're talking about. But
yeah, no, um, butyeah, I was just like, you
know, I was hoping when Ithink doctor's hospital today, yeah, I'm

(06:53):
thinking like white clean walls. Yeahyeah, modern couches, like kind of
simple big screen TV's yeah simple.H My doctor now is like that minimalistic
style but no, this was justit looked like it looked like my you
know, rest in peace, mygrandparents house back in the day. Yeah,

(07:15):
the old technology, the old furniture. But it all made sense because
then my doctor came out and he'slike an older gentleman. Yeah. Um,
so I was already stuck. He'sa super nice guy, super nice
doctor. So so far I'm stickingwith him. But his place does give
me like, oh man, Likewhy am I here? The couches aren't
even comfortable. You could tell they'relike us. Yeah, when I sat

(07:39):
down, you just sink right inlike oh man. Um. But in
that case, um, yeah itis. I mean there's just something to
be said about the office. Youwalk into it, and like you said,
it could be a great doctor. He could be the best, he
could be old school, but justsomething about in the environment just doesn't make

(08:00):
me feel as comfortable. So Idefinitely understand what you're saying. I remember
this distinctly when I was a kidfor some reason, when my parents were
taking me to a doctor and thiswas like a new doctor that I was
going to, and you know howthey have that bed right, and then
every time someone knew comes in,they pulled a new sheet, so I
remember, yeah, what is itcall? No, it's like a plastic

(08:22):
white sheet, right, and yousit on it. So I remember as
a kid, I went into aroom like this with my parents and it
was like a sheet like a bedsheet, oh and there, and it
was just like like, yo,you don't switch ther sound like the next
person just comes in sitting on thatsheet, right. So then I remember
like we just moved the sheet orsomething, and then the doctor came in

(08:43):
and I don't know that tool thatthey put where they clipped something on and
they put it in your ear andthey like look at your ear with the
light or whatever it was. Itwas one of those tools. And I
remember after he had put the clipon and looked in my ear, he
looked after that he white with atowel. Well yeah, I just put
in my ear and put it backin his pocket. So was he just

(09:05):
gonna like use that on the nextkill. So I remember between the fucking
sheet on the bed and the doctorwiping that, I remember my parents were
like, yeah, we're not comingback to this doctor. So even even
then, you know, it waslike an issue. And I just remember
that distinctly and it's always stuck tome of like being OCD going into different
offices. So my question to mydoctors, is it a bad thing if

(09:30):
I want to like switch again andnow it's it's that anxiety of I just
added and started with this doctor. Now I want to leave. You got
to switch everything back over. ButI mean, I'm always for comforts,
and I know we're gonna get intolike the hotels in a minute. So
if if you don't feel comfortable goingto especially a doctor's office, I feel
like you need to make that switch. I don't know, I don't know

(09:54):
how. Yeah, I'm up inthe air still because I'm only there once
to twice a year. That's true. Like it's not for like like a
physical or something. Yeah. Um, switching over to the opposite of that,
speaking of once or twice a year, you know a dentist, you
should be going twice a year toget your cleaning. Yeah. And my
new dentist they opened a new officeand I went for the very first time,

(10:16):
and this this riding, it waslike it was like a hotel lobby
and I and I did the samething. I called you and shared pictures.
I'm like, yo, look atthis is what I'm talking about.
This office, super high ceilings withart on the wall. Uh modern,
um what was it? The chandelierwas a modern chandelier. The kids section

(10:41):
was like high tech with like iPadsand I'm like, now this this man,
it's almost like I feel comfortable,Like you just said the comfort.
I'm ready to go get my teethcleaned at this spot. So that was
amazing. Like the color scheme,um, the simplicity of it. Shout
out out to this doctor, um, callister Dentzel. I want to shout

(11:03):
him out there, you go,callister Denzil. I like, how I
didn't shout the doctor's hotes. Wellyou don't want to put him on blast
either, yeah. Um. Soyeah, so there's that side where man,
this person did it right. Um. You brought up hotel, so
I guess we could go to thehotels part. You and I have had
many conversations about this. I thinkyou even talked about the bad experience you

(11:26):
had on a podcast when you hada hotel out here in Fresno where it
was super sketch, super sketch, and that was just me trying to save
money. And I want to sayI've learned my lesson. But um,
well i'll get into why I saythat. I won't go to the whole
story on that, but yeah,I picked a hotel out here in Fresno

(11:46):
when I wasn't living here but Iwas still DJing um and I wanted to
just get a cheap place. ButI ended up staying there and it was
sketch, just a bunch of homelesspeople. I caught someone trying to break
into my car. Yea, thesmell of weed in my room. The
room was not even comfortable. Itlooked like a drug house. Yeah.

(12:09):
Yeah, So I and to wrapup that part of the story, I
remember I had one more night becauseI chose to stay there for two nights.
I just took the L and leftafter the first night, and you
went and got another I got abetter hotel, So I just took the
L and spent more money because yeah, comfort was super important to me on
that one. But but what Iwas gonna say is, I do want

(12:33):
to say I've learned my lesson, but sometimes I still look for those deals.
And then you know what fux usup is the pictures. Yeah funny
you said that, because in thissituation, they actually do have photos.
But they always look good because theyclean it up. They take good angles
bigger than what it is. Thefilters. Yeah, it's I've gotten faked

(12:56):
before on some of those, andI'm the same way, like never again.
I like to have my go toSo like where you go to a
certain city and you stayed at ahotel and it's like, all right,
we're coming back here next time.Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
but yeah, I mean it sucksto like, Okay, you want good
location, you want something that's nice, you want like more of a hotel
vibe, and it's to get allthree of those things, but you also
want it not expensive, you knowwhat I'm saying. So it's it's kind

(13:18):
of hard. But once you findthose hotels that you like, or maybe
those certain brands of hotels that youlike, like I say, at Hilton's
a lot, I mean, youcan never go wrong. But yeah,
there's those times where you don't knowyou're going to a new city, the
photos didn't look so bad. Youmaybe you got a deal on it,
and then you post up and you'relike you know right away too, right
where as soon as you walk upand you see the outside and you're like,

(13:41):
oh man, this area is kindof sketch. Yeah, yeah,
and you go inside and it's gotlike the old AC units and you're like,
oh man, it's making hell ofnoise. That was mine this past
weekend. Now, we stayed neara hotel near Disneyland, and you would
think that's a nice area. Itwas like right across the street from Disneyland
and the like you said, thepictures they made it look nice, especially

(14:03):
the pool area with all the palmtrees, and when we got there,
it was like super basic. Itwas more on the older end. Yeah,
the AC was the old ACA.I mean, we just stuck it
out. But it was one ofthose where we looked at each other and
like when we stay here again, and we're like, probably not. I
gotta shout out Tablemount Casino Resort outhere in Fresno, of the casino or

(14:28):
fry. Actually I just stayed therethis Memorial weekend. It's gonna be the
most newest like hotel I'll ever stayin because they haven't even been up for
a year and I had stayed inlike a regular room last year and this
year they put me up in likethis executive suite and man, I'm gonna
put a video about of it.But yeah, I mean you talk about
everything modern, everything nice, LikeI'd probably like the best sleep in that

(14:50):
hotel. So yeah, I meanall that stuff matters. But do do
you ever do this? So thisis again not only do I look for
deals, sometimes I do like jumphotels because I want to try different ones.
I want to experience different ones.Yeah. So I've been doing that
actually recently, going to get backto Disneyland because I go there often.
So I've been trying a lot oftheir neighboring hotels and yeah, there's there's

(15:13):
something like hitting gyms. They're like, oh, like this is actually kind
of nice. See what I'm saying. It's it might be on the older
side, but they've like renovated,I guess. So yeah, I do
like that because sometimes I just wantto try something different, but there's always
that risk, you know. Yeah. So, um, I got a
shout out. There's one that's justoff like a few blocks away from Disneyland

(15:37):
called the viv That one is supernew, and um I got an email
about a deal and I tried thatone. That one was more of my
vibe, super modern. Everything wasmodern about it. I think that's my
style. That I like. Butagain, I think I'm still going to
continue to try out different ones. But you're right, it's hit and missed.
But hopefully we learned from looking atpictures and go, I know what

(16:00):
you're trying to do with that. You don't really go off pictures. For
me, I do like a lotof research. I'll look up YouTube videos.
That's a good idea. Um.The YouTube videos actually been helping me
a lot, because like there's alwaysbloggers, especially Disneyland, you got like
a lot of YouTubers and stuff, and though stay at these hotels and tell
you about it. So that's agood thing to do, is try YouTube.
All right, let's move on tofood spots restaurants Where does ambiance just

(16:22):
vibe? Does um esthetics matter? This one's tricky, this is yeah,
yeah, good, go ahead.Well, I know what you're gonna say.
You're probably gonna say sometimes the holeon the wall spots have the best
food, man, but sometimes it'snot yeah and something yeah, it's not.
Um. The positive one for usthat we've experienced here in Fresno is

(16:45):
we've talked about Chef Pauls many times, man, But Chef Paul's is in
downtown Fresno in the Chinatown section, which to me, to me, Chinatown
is non existent. It doesn't looklike a Chinatown. And this um street,
this blocks of Chinatown, I thinkonly has like three businesses open there
out of like the whole few blocks. And the outside looks sketchy, but

(17:10):
once you open the doors and walkinside, chef pause, it's a fucking
vibe, man, it is.And this is probably why Joe Rogan was
talking shit, because the area aroundthere could be a little sketch, But
he also said, how good Chefpauses, and we've been there and it's
really good. So this is anexample where like it's kind of sketch,
but then the food is good.I love a good atmosphere. I love

(17:33):
a good aesthetics. I love agood vibe with restaurants. Yeah. Yeah,
but I guess it kind of depends, you know, if you're trying
to like wine and dine, youwould probably pick more of like those aesthetics
spots that have a really good vibeinside. But I mean, if you
just like want some good food,I guess just wherever the food's good.

(17:56):
Yeah, I'm trying to think ofanother hole in the wall spot, because
yes, sometimes you're ride those arethose are like some some good eats.
Yeah. Um, but I'm afan, and we don't have to like
list you know the spots. There'sa bunch of like dope looking spots,
yeah yeah, and dope hole inthe wall spots. Maybe you guys can
leave comments on the section and letus know your favorite ones. Um,

(18:19):
the last one for esthetics. Andhow about your workspace? The office space
where you know where you go towork? Do you like a good ambiance?
Oh yeah, I mean definitely.I mean this has pretty much been
my job, so I don't reallyhave much to compare it to. I
guess, um, but I cansee that because you always hear about those

(18:41):
tech companies like Google and these peoplethat work there, like they always talk
about how dope it looks, andwe've been seeded like on some movies and
stuff like that, and you thereis something to be said about a happy
workspace or a fun workspace or agreat atmosphere that would probably we drive people
to want to be better at theirjob. I do believe in that.

(19:03):
And here at this radio station,we actually recently got a facelift. What
was that Is it a year now? Maybe? Yeah? Year? And
a half two years where they redideverything, and yeah, it feels good
walking in here. Yeah, youknow. Just so now I've been working
together for you know, almost fifteenyears, and we've been in the same

(19:25):
building, and I think back then, what made the environment good for us
and just in general is the industry, the radio industry. We're lucky enough
to be working in a fun job, yes, but the contrast to how
our building looks now it is like, oh, and everyone that visits always

(19:49):
comments about how dope our offices look. Now here's an example. Before I
got hired here at iHeartMedia Clear Channel, back then, my first ray radio
job was at the other radio station, which is actually our competing radio station,
and that was forty five minutes awayfrom where I live. And remember
that was in a house. Itwasn't even a building, it was they

(20:11):
turned that house it legit was ahouse had made a studio. And walking
into that house where yes, youliterally got in with a fucking key,
there was something to be like,I don't know about this, Like when
I would go do my on airshipsover the weekend out there, I'd walk
in unlock the fucking front, literallyunlocking the I can't even imagine. And

(20:33):
like you kind of like looked tothe right in it's like a room,
but it's like someone's office. Youlook to the left, there's like another
bedroom essentially, but it's someone's office. And then you kind of like walk
down which is like a little bitof like the basement area, and it
was like the studio. And Iknow some people might say, well,
that's kind of a vibe like astudio in the basement. Like, na,
it wasn't, because it was literallya house in a neighborhood across the

(20:55):
street from a high school. Wasthere a kitchen like that there was a
kitchen? No? Yeah, youknow how like here we have like our
break room and we call that thekitchen, but it's not really a kitchen.
Yeah. Like no, it wasa kitchen and that was the break
room. There's like a fridge inthere and like tables, like oh,
someone like used to live here.It was like I'm serious, like it
used to be a house at somepoint someone lived there, Like it was

(21:15):
a roof. They had a garagethat's where they parked the vehicles. Yeah,
man, I need I like Iagree with that whole thing. I
like a good environment and yeah,I definitely love how our office of space
look and they made it modern here, which means you we like that modern
look, simplicity for like just simplecolors. It will not the lobby.

(21:36):
If you walk into our lobbies, the whole room is red, but it
looks cool. Yeah. I enjoyit. I enjoy the shockingness of our
lobby. Yeah, because every timepeople walk in, they're like, wow,
this is really red. It's alwaysthe first first comment. Whoa,
that's always the first common they readedour carpets in the studio, they repainted
it and it does feel fresh.I mean, I still think we need

(21:59):
a news studio. I mean, they've always promised us that they're gonna give
us up to date studio equipment wise, we might be a little bit behind.
But yeah, the environment around usis always nice. To AC is
always you know, it's always blasting. You know. You sometimes you come
in here like damn, it's kindof cold. I'm like, Yo,
this AC is blasting and I don'thave to pay for it. I mean,
I've what I've learned from this episodeis are we boogie? No?

(22:22):
I'm just kidding. I don't know. No, I think I think it's
just a comfort. We like comfortsbecause there's I mean, I don't want
to put anybody blast, but there'ssometimes you go to like a homie's house
or somebody's crib or and you're kindof sitting there. And when I sit
in someone's crib that I don't like, it makes me like not want to
move. Do you ever feel likethat? Like I'll sit on someone's couch
and I can kind of tell they'rea little messing, a little dirty,

(22:45):
and I kind of just like wantto clench my arms into my chest and
just like not move. Like That'show I feel. And so when I
go into somebody else's that feels alittle bit more homye, or they're a
little bit more marlin, or youwalk in and it doesn't have like that
weird smell, I can be alittle bit more comfortable. But yeah,
agreed, agreed. You. Iwas triggered because I experienced that where I

(23:07):
got invited to go hang out ofthe house and it was just no,
it was an apartment, That's whatit was. It was an apartment and
they had kids and the amount oftoys that was covering the whole floor.
Or sometimes people would like their pets, you know what I'm saying. Like,
I mean, I'm a fan ofpets, and I'm a fan of
having pets on the inside, butlike there is that smell that they leave

(23:30):
if you don't clean your pets andyou walk in and you're like, oh
this this place has cats and dogs. You can smell the litter. Uh
yeah, So the anxiety attack definitelyheightens on that. But um yeah,
so what are you guys the sameway? Are you? Or are you
guys? Does environment matter? Willyou leave a place if the office ain't
rights or the vibe ain't right justbecause it's not clean or comfortable? Let

(23:52):
us know.
