Speaker 1 (00:00):
In less than two minutes, you'll hear the iHeartRadio world
premiere of Elton John and Brandy Carlisle's brand new song
Who Believes in Angels. But first, Elton and Brandy talk
with iHeartRadio's Ellen Key about the project.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
This is your world premiere here on iHeart. Tell the
world what you've created.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
We made an album called Who Believes in Angels.
Speaker 4 (00:19):
It's really mystical, it's musically beautiful. Elton wrote almost all
of the music.
Speaker 5 (00:24):
I wrote a good chunk of the lyrics.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
Bernie Toppen wrote some lyrics.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
And we just had an incredible time making an alder
that felt otherworldly to us.
Speaker 6 (00:31):
It happened about three months after Glastonbury and the end
of My World tour. But I come off the road
and I had it and it wasn't let's do an
album that it was in the book, We're going to
do an album because I wanted to bottle the energy
from the tour into making this record, because I wanted
to shift gears and I wanted to shift her gears
and I wanted to shift my gears, and so the
(00:52):
initial process was difficult. I was very tired. I wasn't
feeling very well, and I'm grumpy, and mostly it was
my fault because I just was being unreasonable and I
was really worried about the album. I had a lot
of self doubt because I knew what I wanted this
album to be. But you can't say when you say that,
you can't guarantee what an album's going to sound like.
(01:13):
But when we got over the first few days and
I calmed down, the process flew and it was one
of the most joyous, most exhilarating processes I've ever had
in my life. That's so good to hear. It ended
up exactly how I wanted it to be and more.

Premiere Elton, John Brandy, Carlisle who believes in angels? All
your voices they blend so beautifully and Elton, thank you
for joining us Brandy YouTube. But Elton, you've said that
when you were making this music you are not in
a good place, but you found your way. So what
would you tell those listening who are going through a
(06:56):
rough patch.
Speaker 6 (06:58):
Oh it's things always look as terrible. You know, when
you're down, when it's like an avalanche goes off in
your head and comes down, you don't think you can
ever get through it. You just have to have a
little faith and that one day is not the next day.
The next day can be totally different. Reach out, reach
out to people. Don't sit there alone in your own
(07:19):
head and think about it because it'll only get worse.
Just phone somebody, meet somebody for dinner, talk to them
about it. And it helps so much to ask for help.
That's why I was a drug addict for so long,
and when I ask for help, my whole life changed.
Those three words, I need help.
Speaker 7 (07:37):
Earlier.
Speaker 6 (07:38):
So yeah, reach out to people.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Amazing, that's nice, amazing advice and Brandy, what is it
like having Elton as your good, good, close friends soul meat.
Speaker 6 (07:46):
Well, I mean you just heard it.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
He's an incredibly soulful person, and he's nurturing and he's
always got his finger on the pulse of what's new,
what's forward, what's ahead of us. You know, he doesn't
dwell in the past.
Speaker 8 (07:58):
He's just inspiring to Ben.
Speaker 6 (08:00):
He's an endless source of energy and it just as
sounds me every day in a new way. And she's
very much like me. She's a founding energy, she's a
positive for mostly, always bouncy, always talking about new things,
songs she's written, and that rubs off of and we
both rub off on each other really really well. And
that happened the first time I met Brandy. She came
(08:21):
to Las Vegas because she asked me if I would
play on a song, and I said yes because I'd
heard of her, and she came to Vegas. But before
I even played on the song, like, we clicked immediately.
It's just like we were long lost brother and sister
or something. And our friendship has grown and grown and
grown to the fact that we both have families and
(08:42):
our families spend time together and it's the greatest thing
you could ever asked for. I mean, it's just it's kismet.
It's wondrous and it's real, which is fantastic.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Brandy Carlisle, thank you so much, Elton, love you, and
thank you guys both. You know they're calling you Music's
sweetest duo.
