Speaker 1 (00:01):
Well, good morning in this coast, one out three point
five y Llen K Morning Show five twenty six Here
on your Thursday, the ninth of January, the year twenty
twenty five, days that we will never forget ever ever.
I'm Ryan Manno, I'm Social Queen Darling. We are minus
Ellen K Boy.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Where do we start with this?
Speaker 1 (00:20):
One last night out of nowhere, we were all texting
in a group chat. Half hour later we get the
notifications there's a fire in Hollywood, the Sunset fire in
the hills near Runyon. Mandatory evacuations. There's a really cool
map I sent it to you in the text where
you can actually look at the current evacuations. You can
(00:41):
type in an address and see if that person's under
mandatory evac And of course I typed in Ellen's address
and boom there comes up in red. So couldn't get
a hold of her for a couple hours, Yeah, tense
couple hours. Yeah. And look, I mean, when you're going
through this stuff, as everyone knows who's had to get
out to flee, all you're doing is packing up, trying
(01:01):
to think of what you might be missing, and then
you know, you think of on a good day It's
hard to get down that hill two cars at a time,
you know, so just the scramble, the mad dash down.
We can say that Ellen is safe. We know she
went to a friend's house. We don't know how far
or who the friend is or what. But she did
(01:24):
text last night and this morning letting us know that
she's safe. She said she's going to try to make
it into this morning by seven, up all night. So
just a really sleepless night, an anxious night, I know,
for Ellen and for so many of our friends and
neighbors and folks right here in our community. I mean
all of the fires.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
And they're just popping up all over the place. Driving
in this morning.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
I as a habit, I always have my AC on. Yeah, well,
don't have your AC on, because before you know it,
my eyes, my nose, my throat were starting to burn
and I realized, oh no, the bad air quality is
coming in just driving around.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
That's a good tip.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
So yeah, I'm feeling it right now. But it's it's
definitely a weird time. And we just want to be
here for you guys and be supportive to one another.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
And we are. We're here for you, We're live, We're
here with you. Our numbers eight hundred and ninety nine KOST.
If you want to talk, if you if you're seeing
anything out there, please keep us posted. Of course, all
LAUSD schools are closed today at least today. I mean
this could extend a lot of event closures too. We're
going to run down everything we have for you, and
(02:29):
we're thankful you're here. This is the llen K Morning Show.
It's Coast one O three point five.
Speaker 5 (02:33):

Speaker 6 (02:39):
Oh my god, you guys are amazing.
Speaker 7 (02:42):
You make my day, you make my morning, and.
Speaker 8 (02:45):
I love you all.
Speaker 5 (02:46):
Coast one oh three point five.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
It's Coast one on three point five, The l K
Morning Show. No Ellen right now yet. She is going
to try to make it in this morning long story shorts.
She had a flee last night, as simple as that.
They had to go and they had to go fast.
The sunset fire which broke out in Hollywood. It went
up and it started going uphill in a hurry, and
(03:08):
they had to get down in a hurry. They said,
head south down the hill. And I was looking at
some of the aerial images Darlene of Hollywood, and they
were saying they've never seen congestion like this on the
surface streets of Hollywood, coming dangerously close to Hollywood Bowl,
Magic Castle. But they it's not going as fast. There's
zero percent containment on that one forty three acres. But
(03:30):
Ellen had to get out and she had she had
a sleepless night, up all night, so she'll be in
at some point this morning. We are grateful you are here.
Let's talk about what we can expect today in terms
of winds. On any other day, when you say, oh,
the winds will only be twenty five miles per hour,
you'd be like, oh, that's pretty heavy. So we are
going to get a little reprieved today from the winds,
(03:51):
but that still means fire danger, red flag warning in effect.
How were they last night by you?
Speaker 9 (03:55):
Last night?
Speaker 4 (03:56):
I live close to the ten Freeway. You would think
the freeway was in my back because the winds were
just oh yeah, but I'm not that close to the freeway,
and I just prayed and slept and hoped that I
didn't wake up to any more fire news.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Yeah you're in Ontario, so yeah, I saw Rancho was
logging us up to eighty three miles per hour. The
biggest one we got yesterday was ninety five Fremont ninety
two Arrowhead Springs Magic Mountain Truck Trail was getting a
nine mile per hour winds, So they will be lighter today,
but still very much in that fire danger pocket.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Also, we love your talkbacks.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
We love when you call us at eight hundred nine
to nine KOST and we love when you use our
free iHeart Radio app, free and all new iHeartRadio app.
There's a little red microphone, a talkback button. You can
come right indoor studio and just say, hey.
Speaker 10 (04:44):
Good morning, guys, you're doing a great job. I simply
want to say, God bless all the people whose lives
are forever altered due to these fires, and may they
find strength and hope and resilience going forward, and thank
you for all the people who will help them do that. Again.
(05:04):
God bless love to all.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Thank you. That's from Terry. And to that point, we
do have a list coming up. We're gonna share it
up on our Instagram too, of places you can go,
you know, stay get clean, get food, whatever it is
that you need. And when you use that talkback button, too.
We love you know hearing what you're seeing.
Speaker 7 (05:22):
It's Marie from Lancaster.

up water flying in two Pacific policy anyway, Oh gosh.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Oh god, Marie, thank you for that live eyewitness report
on our talkback button and again our phone number eight
hundred nine nine KOST. It's the only K Morning show,

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Awake the arrival of an evacuator, Ellen K. We are
live with you this morning. It's the LK Morning Show
post on a three point five.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Good morning, I'm Ryan Mano. Top stories at the top
of the hour.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
The most destructive fire in LA history. That is the
official declaration regarding the Palisades Fire, which continues to burn
uncontrolled this morning. Our most recent update from cal Fire
says it's claimed more than seventeen thousand, two hundred acres
and still very much spreading zero percent containment.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Officials are dubbing it.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
The worst case scenario, with more than a thousand homes
and businesses being leveled by the blaze. It's really almost
hard to comprehend some of these images we're seeing, and
we'll see again this morning when the sun comes up.
It is estimated that seventy five percent of what used
to be the Pacific Palisades is completely gone. The fatal
Eaten Fire and Altadina also still raging right now. Sadly,
the death toll there has risen to five. We're looking
(07:26):
at the ten six hundred acres, also no containment. It
did jump city limits into Pasadena briefly yesterday, where dozens
of homes were torched. Mandatory evac orders still in place
until further notice. Same for Sierra Madre and all of
La Canata flint Ridge. Then last night, the Sunset fire
sparked near Runyon in the Hollywood Hills. It spread fast uphill,
forcing immediate mandatory evacuations, thousands of residents scrambling to head
(07:49):
down the hill. This one also zero percent contained, but
it's not burning as quickly. Forty three acres on the
Sunset fire. At one point we were seeing it come
dangerously close to the Hollywood Bowl and the Magic Castle.
Employees at the Castle used water hoses outside, just springing
down that landmark, trying to keep it wet. And a
big reminder you likely already know if you have kiddos
(08:09):
or if you're a you know, a member of one
of one of the staffs. All LAUSD schools the entire
district will be closed today. In terms of what to
expect weatherwise, wins thankfully dying down today looks like twenty
five thirty mile an hour GUS from the northeast, but
our fire danger very much remains red flag warning in
place through tomorrow night. Currently it is fifty degrees here
in Burbank. It's Kost Los Angeles. We run on Celsias
(08:31):
Entergy Drinks. It's Coast on a three point five. Thanks
for being your friend.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
It's the l and K Morning Show.
Speaker 14 (08:36):
I got a program ding my phone. I got you
on the high Heart radio app. On a daily basis,
I listened to Post one O three point five. You
guys are awesome.
Speaker 5 (08:44):
Coast on a three point five.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Could we use a little heaven right now or what
some of these shots we're seeing right now looking kind
of like the opposite. But hey, we're here, We're with you,
we are together. We are the llen K Morning Show.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
I'm Ryan Manow, I'm.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Social Queen Darling.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
I'm producer Mike Ramos.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Ellen Ka on her way in.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
We've had very limited contact, which yesterday we were all
freaking out because we knew she had to evacuate that
sunset fire. She had to go and go quick, which
I'm sure was panic. And the last thing anyone in
that situation needs is someone bothering them.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Okay, are you okay?
Speaker 1 (09:15):
It's like, you know, just get out, just get out.
So we eventually a couple hours later did hear from
her saying she went to a friend's house. I've got
the dogs taken care of with one of her other friends.
And she did say she will be in this morning,
So thank you Ellen. If you're away.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
She was up all night.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
She sent me a Textah, I feel like I know
thirty new LAPD officers too. Another one of our friends
who works down the hall, he was saying that he
was told to evacuate. He lives near Ellen, like a
street over by trucks, just driving down the street on
like loudspeakers, megaphones, so scared, you know, just yelling to
people in their homes hoping they would hear. Because not
(09:53):
everyone's glued to the news. You don't you know, you
might not get that alert. So we are thankful. Ellen
and Roy are saying. At one point, Darlene and I
were talking, do we call Calvin?
Speaker 4 (10:03):
I know I felt bad, but you know, you worry
about your family, but.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
You don't want to freak him out. He's up at school,
he's at Stanford.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
I mean, I'm sure he knows mom and dad are
gonna let him know it's up, So you know, you
don't want to panic. Yeah, the child I'm glad we didn't.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
No, it's smart, I know, but in that moment, you're like.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Oh God, I want you.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Right after we got off the phone, thanks for calling me,
by the way and letting me know.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
I was watching the news.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
But it felt like within the hour we were all
in that group text and then suddenly you call me
saying Ellen is getting evacuated. I think we don't hear
from her. I got so nervous. My husband had made
a fresh pot of beans, and I was like, okay,
what is Ellen like? She likes BRC's beans, rice and cheese,
So I started making rice, so I have I was
(10:47):
hoping she would come in so I can feed her. So, Ellen,
if you're listening, we have fresh BRC's here waiting for you.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
We shall see what time she arrives. So we're glad
you're here.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
We're all doing this together. If you have stories, maybe
you were evacuated or you currently are, you know, let
us know what's going on, let us know what you're
feeling and seeing. One thing to note, these fires have
led to a whole handful of event cancelations and postponements.
The Critics' Choice Awards, which were set not only in
person at the Hangar in Santa Monica for this Sunday.
They've been bumped to Sunday, the twenty sixth. Last night's
(11:19):
La King's game at Crypto against Calgary postponed, pantagious canceling
wicked last night, just refunding, not even like you know,
rescheduling six Flags, Magic Mountain and then Universal Studios Hollywood
nearby those were closed and this weekend's alter Ego at
the Key of Form. We got the news last night
(11:40):
in our email that iHeart has made the difficult but
informed decision to cancel the show.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Also, if you're in a fire zone, this is a
good note.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
And you know if you're just you don't want to
go out because you shouldn't stay off the roads. A
door Dash as of this morning is suspending operations in
all of the fire zone, so you can't even get
food delivered. So make sure you're prepared, make sure you're ready,
make sure you stay with us all morning on it
is The ellen K Morning Show. Coast won a three

Speaker 2 (12:17):
It's coast on A three point five.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
Lots of questions this morning, eight hundred nine nine kost Hey.
Speaker 14 (12:24):
Hi Ryan, this is Dennis King and Torrance. I just
wanted to know is Ellen okay because I think she
lives in the fire zone and she's not on today,
so I just want to make sure she's okay.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Yes, okay, Dennis, thank you for calling. Yeah, we just
touched on that, but I'm glad. I'm glad you're tuning
in now. So Ellen, Oh we're here in sirens. Ellen
is okay.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
She is safe. They got out last night.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
They did have to evacuate, but she's okay and she
will be in this morning.
Speaker 14 (12:52):
Okay, she's just I think getting thanks thanks taking care
of Yeah. I'm glad to hear that, you know, because
I know she lives in that general area, and you know,
thanks are crazy. I'm a retired fireman myself, so I
know what they're going through. It's like my god, you know,
they're just not enough. But yeah, wanted the one event
(13:14):
that happened. So anyway, well I'll let you go. I
know you're busy, and I just wanted to We're keeping
your our thoughts in prayers and take care and good luck.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Dennis, thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Thanks for having us on, and thank you for what
you do too, because I think, you know, moments like
this remind us that that job you did for for
those years is that's that's just a it's a remarkable thing.
Speaker 14 (13:34):
So thank you, thank you and appreciate that. But we're
we're for you guys, you know, so take care and
good luck and hope I allow you guys come out smiling.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
All right, buddy, we'll talk to you. Thanks again, all right,
thank you.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
More feel Good is coming up on the L and
K Morning Show. Coast one O three point by.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
As the sun rises above our precious southern California, you're
gonna get some new looks at what we're dealing with
this morning, some things that happened overnight. What's ahead of
us this coast on a three point five. Ellen k
will be here this morning. She had to flee last night.
We've had very limited text contact, but we do know
that she will be here. It'll be really interesting to
(14:14):
hear what happened, how she found out, how quickly she
got out what did she pack? But she and Roy
are safe. We're getting so many calls and people reaching out,
and we thank you, thank you, thank you for all
of your concern, and we hope you know, just like Ellen,
we hope you are safe and your family is safe,
and we hope that you're having a good morning. A
lot going on. LAUSD canceled today all classes, a bunch
(14:35):
of other districts too. I'm sure if you are a
parent of a student, you've heard from the school. So
we do appreciate you being here right by our side
at this time. Every single morning. We give you a
happiness hack for life. By the way, I'm Ryan Mano,
I'm social Queen Darling and not producer Mike Romos.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Good morning this one.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Dar You came in this morning and you just said,
oh my god, I can't believe I just did this.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Yes, it's helped.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
And everyone needs to know about this.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
So when you're driving in, especially when you're passing a
fire area, turn your AC off. I have a habit
of just always running it, and because I'm like groggy
in the morning, it kind of helps me wake up. Yeah,
and then I started choking. I'm like, oh my gosh,
my air's on. I'm bringing all the bad air in.
And you can check air quality where you're at now
(15:18):
AirNow dot.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
Gov, AirNow dot GOP. That's great and.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
It'll tell you, like when I was passing Pasadena, totally
unhealthy levels in that air quality. And I mean you
can see it, but you're not thinking about it when
you're driving in your car. So turn your AC off.
Some people are wearing masks.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
That's up to you. My eyes, my throat, my nose,
all burning.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
The eyes especially.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
I put my contacts in this morning, and I think
I audibly said, ah, I know, you know, it's just
it's bad out there. So yeah, if you have a
K ninety five mask, grab that. Maybe you hid your
mask from years ago. You've got where they are, try
to find them and take them with you as you go.
But yeah, turn your AC off. That recirculate button two,
so you're bringing in air only from your car, and
you know, push up your vents, close your vents too,
so we don't want your eyes filling with smoke as
(16:01):
your cabin fills with smoke. And really, if you can
just stay off the roads today, but keep us on.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
Yeah, we're okay. We're just glad Ellen's okay.
Speaker 13 (16:32):
I know, I'm so glad. I woke up and I
heard you and I know your guys' pattern, and I
was like, Ellen's not there? Why is Ellen not there?
And so I'm really glad that she's okay and that's
okay and that she'll be in soon.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Yeah, and I'm hearing that that many of those evacuation
orders in her neighborhood have been lifted. It looks like
she's still under good that order. But they seem to
have a pretty good handle on that fire. I'm sure
it was terrifying and just you know, gosh, you gotta
get out and getting down that hill is no picnic.
Speaker 9 (17:05):
Oh No.
Speaker 13 (17:05):
I was watching the news last night and I clicked
this morning when I heard your voice, and I'm like,
oh my gosh, I won't live up there. So what
I'm interested to hear like just what she had to
walk through, and I'm glad that they're okay, And yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
We await her arrival and we're glad you're with us. Carrie,

Thursday morning, January ninth, it's Coast on A three point five.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
I'm right MANO in for Ellen K. She will be
here this morning.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Got to look at your top stories at the top
of the hour, so we know we have five active
fires right now burning across the Southland. Of course, the
big ones, the Palisades Fire, the Eton Fire, Altadina, and
then the Sunset Fire which started last night near Runyon
in the Hollywood Hills. Additionally, though, we're watching these two
other blazes, both smaller but still considered major, the Hurst
Fire and Silmar. Thankfully, we're just hearing ten percent contain
(18:26):
this morning, that it's great news. And then the Lydia
fire near solid Ad Canyon between Acton and Santa Clarita, Cruz.
Have this one forty percent contained. We are thankful for
them because they are so spread thin. La County Fire
Chief Anthony Morone says all twenty nine departments are maxed
out to capacity, with no personnel or other apparatus to spare,
so it's quite literally all hands on deck. He's requested
(18:48):
aid from Orange, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo counties,
plus some crews up in norcl The National Guard we
know has been activated. They continue to arrive here today,
plus crews coming in from Nevada and Utah, Washington, all
on route to help.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
And I thought this was solid.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Every local Planet Fitness is opening its doors to residents
first responders others affected or displaced by these fires. They're
offering free access to locker rooms, showers, you could even
get a hydro massage, Wi Fi electrical outlets. So if
you need a place to go for the next week,
any place, if you just want to go somewhere and
get some stuff done and get clean, and you know
you got to go somewhere, it's Planet Fitness, all locations
(19:26):
across the south Land helping. Also, if you've been displaced,
you need to grab some grub. Our friends at Doghouse
in Pasadena offering free house dogs. Thought that was a
nice move too. Actually, there's a growing list of local
restaurants offering no cost meals for those in need. That
is up at our Instagram stories Coast one on three
five FM, and we thank all of those folks helping
for their warmth and just giving nature as we get
(19:47):
through this together. Weatherwise, today, wins are dying down, still
strong though twenty five thirty mile an hour gus from
the northeast. Fire danger very much remains a part of
the story today. Red flag warning in place through tomorrow night.
In terms of tempts, Pasadena seventy two, Pomona seventy four,
year high currently fifty five. Here in Burbank, it's KOST
Los Angeles.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Coast won a three point five.
Speaker 1 (20:08):

We were all texting, Yeah, thirty minutes went by. Boom,
she's got to go, She's gotta go. Scary, so scary,
and like so many have had to do, they got
they got out and thank God and they're okay. And
(20:53):
Ellen will be here this morning and we can't wait
to hear what that experience was like and just you know,
hear what was going through her mind. What's I'm sure
it was a sleepless night. She did text this morning
and we've had limited text, but she said she knows
thirty new LAPD officers, So thank god for them too,
all of our first responders doing what you're doing out
there today Again, the sun coming up, We're going to
(21:13):
see new pictures today of what's left in certain places.
I'm hearing the Palisades what used to be seventy five
percent gone, which is just you can't even wrap your
head around that.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
That just that My friend Ariel's in laws lost their
home and less than two weeks prior, they were there
celebrating Christmas.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Yeah, it's just so much to intake.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
My friend Hannah yesterday was her boyfriend Ryan's birthday, and
she said, you know, we were texting and she said, well,
our birthday plans literally burned down. The restaurant they were
going to gone. We just talked to our president here
at Ihart. Paul came in and told us that we
have and I didn't know this until he just came in.
We have upwards of ten coworkers here who've lost everything.
(21:57):
One of our guys in sales Adham he owned yogurt.
They're gone. It's just it's unimaginable. So if you're dealing
with it, it's, you know, one step at a time.
The one thing that does come through in these moments,
as we've seen, not only locally but you know nationwide,
I mean, is that sense of resilience. And I love
this clip. This man is ninety one years old. Listen
(22:17):
to this guy who has lost everything.
Speaker 17 (22:19):
I'm going to break down again. That's what That's what
I feel. It's my whole life. I've met us ago
away sitting in the car by myself, and I just
the tears just came over my face. So and entire
history is in the house. I'm okay, I'll be okay,
(22:41):
I'm tough, and we'll start even though I'm ninety one
years old, and I'll start over again.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Wow, it's just that spirit, that attitude. So yeah, one
step at a time. We're here for if you want
to talk. It's eight hundred ninety to nine KOST. We
hope you're having a great day again. All LAUSD schools
close today, which you already know. And if you don't
have to go out, if you can work from home,
Please do again eight hundred nine nine five six seven eight,
or use our free talkback button on the iHeartRadio app.
(23:06):

Speaker 18 (23:13):
Every morning, anytime I'm.
Speaker 14 (23:15):
In my vehicle. You guys are there to keep me
awake and happy and smiling.
Speaker 9 (23:19):
Thank you for being here with us.
Speaker 14 (23:21):
You guys are the best man, no matter what.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
Host one oh three point boy ni bamay Hi.
Speaker 9 (23:28):
All right, we're here all of us together. You guys
sound great. Thank you so much for.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
Thanks for caring about me. Oh my god, thank you
for being here.
Speaker 9 (23:40):
Well, we're the lucky ones. We're evacuated. If you live
in and around Hollywood Hollywood Hills, you were made to
leave like we were, and we were let back in
this morning. So we're the lucky ones. I just feel
so bad for everyone who doesn't get to go home.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
Uh, how gosh, I think we and everyone listening to
folks have been calling it all morning, like do you
know how you know how quickly did they get out
or how long did it take them to get out?
Speaker 9 (24:10):
You know, it's it's so weird. We were we had
just finished like doing the dishes. We're just talking about
how wow I cooked. You know, last night I made
a salad, I made some chicken. We're cleaning up. Everything
is fine. And then we got phone calls, like a
(24:31):
phone coft phone call, and I was like, what is
all of this? And then texts anyway, this is what
we got.
Speaker 19 (24:40):
This is an emergency message from note to by LA
the City of Los Angeles Emergency Alert System LAFD.
Speaker 18 (24:47):
Evacuate now from the area of Runyon Canyon. Those not
in the evacuation area should shelter in place. Evacuation order
for sunset maxim Information can be found at la fd
dot or alerts.
Speaker 9 (25:01):
Then sirens everywhere, flames in the air, police fire trucks
speeding through the canyon roads to get to the sunset
fire and pounding on doors. So there there's an evacuation team.
They come in these like it's the kind of police
(25:22):
cars you never see, right, yeah, and with lights and
then sedan cruisers and they just parked along. They went
to everyone's door, door to door to door, and we
ryan thanks to you. We were putting together our go bag,
but we didn't have it ready, and Calvin was flipping
out because he's up in Palo Alto, so he's caught facetiming.
(25:46):
And I said, what do you want me to take
from your room? And he said, please just take pictures
and then and then he said, get snow posed pain
and his book and I want his flies that he tied.
So I put everything in a bag. It's in my car,
(26:09):
but I brought it up. Then he wanted his lamp shade,
and I'll explain what that is coming up. So I
made him a bag and we got out. We got out,
We got the dogs in the car. Thank you so much,
our friend Maria for taking our babies. And then we
hung out with her, our neighbors. We all kind of
went noh, Van Nuys area.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Yeah good, Yeah, it's just incredible, is one. We're just
glad you're okay and that your your house is here.
And and by the way, those crews with the drops,
the water drops, I mean, they did an awesome job.
Speaker 9 (26:43):
It's they're unbelievable. The la FD and these helicopters. We
love you. It's if they hadn't been able to be
up there in the reservoirs right there, we would be
another Palisades.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Because that thing was going quick. I mean, obviously everyone's
glued to it, and that thing was moving uphill.
Speaker 18 (27:02):
Facts.
Speaker 9 (27:03):
They're amazing, these people working around the clock. And then,
you know, I just feel so so lucky. But what
we went through is nothing, it really is. It's nothing.
We're lucky. We're lucky. We're lucky that we have these,
you know, all these firefighters and police to keep us safe.
And we're lucky. We got to go, you know, home.
(27:24):
I just feel so bad for those who don't so
but thanks for being here with us. And John you
want to play the Q and A coming up? You
want to do it now? No, we're not going to
do that. All right, Well we're here, okay, Thanks guys.

Speaker 9 (28:08):
They wrote love you and post its Thank you guys.
I've been up all night. I'm a little foggy, but
thank you so much. I love you guys so much.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
We love you.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
We're so worried about you.
Speaker 9 (28:23):
Well, we were lucky. We were victims of the Sunset
evacuations from the Sunset fire, and we got to go
back in this morning, uh, to see our house and
to well we were back and take a quick shower
before I could come in here. But it's amazing what
adrenaline we'll do right, Okay, So Jamie Lee Curtis was
(28:47):
on Follin last night. She flew to New York. She
went on fallon. She just donated a million dollars to
UH relief efforts. Yeah, that's incredible. Here she was last
night and emotional.
Speaker 12 (29:01):
It's just a catastrophe in southern California. Obviously, there have
been horrific fires in many places. This is literally where
I live, everything, the market, I shop in, the schools,
my kids go to friends. Many many, many many many
friends now have lost their homes.
Speaker 5 (29:19):
So it is it's a really awful situation.
Speaker 12 (29:23):
I'm I am, you know, obviously going to go home
first thing tomorrow and be with my family and try
to help my friends.
Speaker 9 (29:31):
And a million dollars she just donated to relief efforts.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
The church she posted, the church that she got sober
in twenty five years ago, is gone, and she honored
all of those who came after her before her to
find their sobriety in that same church. So these pieces
of our life, you know.
Speaker 9 (29:49):
Yeah, school's gone. Yeah, imagine your school is just gone. Yeah, wow,
well call us, We're here for you. It's eight hundred
and ninety two nine kost and yeah, I got to
tell you, you know, so you're being evacuated like we
were yesterday, and you got your son on FaceTime and
(30:12):
then you say what do you want? And he says,
I want my lampshade, so I'm gonna take a video
of it. I brought it in in his lamp and
then he wanted items that my dad gave him, and
I don't know, it just made me feel you think
about what would you take. I took my mom's locket
and our wedding album. We have an actual like wedding
(30:35):
album and video. Our video VHA long we've been there,
so I took that and I was looking at that thinking,
if I want to watch this bag, it's gonna be
a big transition. Do people still do that?
Speaker 2 (30:51):
I think there's services that maybe transfer it for you.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
But we're looking at this Lampshad Alan brought it in
today and it's a pin from like every place you
guys have been or a more I guess in Calvin's life.
Speaker 9 (31:01):
Yeah, covered in pins covered. And then there's a here's
a lebron James. Uh, there's a pin here, says be ready.
Speaker 10 (31:09):
That was l A.
Speaker 9 (31:10):
He was head of school for the day at the
Wesley School. There's a Kobe.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
Happy birthday for Mickey Mini.
Speaker 11 (31:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (31:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (31:18):
Oh, there's the h l a Pie Life. There's Smoky
the Bear Coast and it's a beautiful lamp. It's yeah
pretty plex. Yeah, I'll coast this officially, Kay, we'll put
up on coast. Here's Walt Disney. Let's see. Oh, here's one. Oh,
here's one. I love Weed California.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
We went there.
Speaker 9 (31:44):
And congrats your teddy swims.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
My wife is pregnant.
Speaker 9 (31:48):
Here he is like coast.
Speaker 16 (31:50):
Something's got a hold on me.
Speaker 5 (31:52):
Lay wake up.
Speaker 14 (31:55):
You guys are the best. I love listening to you.
I listen to you every day.
Speaker 9 (32:00):
I love being here with you.
Speaker 5 (32:01):
Post one oh three point by Top Stories, Top of
the Hour.
Speaker 9 (32:05):
Good morning, I'm Ellen Kay and quote the most destructive
fire in LA history. That's the official declaration regarding the
Palisades Fire, which continues to burn uncontrolled this morning. Our
most recent update from CalFire says it's claim more than
seventeen two hundred acres. It's hard to even comprehend this.
Seventy five percent of what used to be the Palisades
(32:26):
completely gone. The fatal eating fire and Altadena is still
raging right now. And then last night I was evacuated
the Sunset fire sparking near Runyon and the Hollywood Hills,
spreading fast uphill. This one's also zero percent contained. It's
not burning as quickly. Forty three acres on that Sunset fire.
At one point we were seeing it come dangerously close
(32:46):
to the Hollywood Bowl and the Magic Castle. Employees at
the Castle had water hoses outside spraying down the landmark
just to keep it wet. We're watching all the blazes
for you all LAUSD schools. As you know, the entire
district closed today and we are taking your calls if
you just want to talk. As someone who was evacuated
and then able to go back home, you know, I
(33:10):
just my heart is broken for those who didn't get
to So we're here for you and with you, and yeah,
I give us a call. It's eight hundred ninety two
nine KOST, Los Angeles Coast, one of three point five.
Speaker 5 (33:27):
It's the Lank Morning Show.
Speaker 19 (33:28):
Allen, we love you.
Speaker 13 (33:29):
We listened to you every morning religiously.
Speaker 5 (33:31):
We implore you post one oh three point five.
Speaker 9 (33:34):
My son Calvin has a special lamp. This is right
by his bedside usually, but I brought it into the
studio this morning. It was one of my evacuation grabs
on the way out the door. And one of the
pins is pins of all these experiences that we've had
all throughout his childhood. The Wigwam Motel if you've never
(33:54):
been there, that's a fun one to go to. And
the Ie. But anyway, there's a P and it says
be ready. And I can't stress it enough because one
moment you are eating dinner, doing the dishes, and the
next you're driving through embers being evacuated, and there are
cops pounding on your door. And that's what happened to
(34:16):
us last night due to the sunset fire, so we
weren't ready. And Ryan, you gave great evacuation hacks of
the six PE's.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Yeah, we'll run those down coming up.
Speaker 11 (34:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (34:30):
Things you need to have, and one of them is prescriptions,
so like just have at least have it in your mind.
And then those mementos that you you know that really
mean something in your heart. And that's what happens. It's
almost like you go into this other kind of shell
(34:50):
where you really see what means the most to you.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
It's like you ask yourself, what is my life? What
can I grab that is that is my life?
Speaker 9 (35:01):
Yeah, it's actually for all of us, Like, Ryan, what
is your life?
Speaker 1 (35:09):
You were a spot.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
No, I can't do this now.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
What are you cherish?
Speaker 3 (35:14):
I have like these baby pictures of my kids that
I'm not leaving without. Yes, and I have a hard drive.
I have a fire safe, So maybe that's a good pointer.
Get a fire safe.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
I think, I think all of your important stuff and
then anything that you cherish, anything that was reminds you
of home or family, and obviously the pets you know
that would be. My first instinct is to make sure
pennies pennies, okay, oh yeah.
Speaker 9 (35:38):
Yeah, that is Oh my gosh. Our friend Maria, she
takes care of our two dogs and she's amazing. They
love her. They've known her since they were puppies. So
she was one of my first causes. We were evacuating.
I just said, Maria, can I bring you the babies?
We just come the babies, and she said, come, just come.
And we hung out there for a long time in
(36:01):
North Hollywood to get away from the fire and just
to watch TV to see what was happening. But we
were streaming in the car. We had the radio on.
I have to tell you how much I love being
here and how much this means because when you hear
(36:22):
about it on the radio, I don't know. I just
there was something really comforting about listening to the radio
in the car being evacuated and getting all the information.
So let's see all the lines are in. Let's go
to you, Hey, Marcy, Hi, Yeah.
Speaker 16 (36:39):
Good morning, Ellen. Just so emotional I was listening to
you this morning. And first I want to thank the firefighters,
first responders, everybody who's really trying their hardest to kind
of keep us all sane and rescue everybody. Rescue animals, rescue,
(37:01):
just people. It's it's devastating over here. I'm in Orange
County and to see the smoke come through just breaks
my heart all over again. And I was listening to
you this morning talk about you know, you want to
grab your moms belongings. You just don't know what to
do in the moment you get so just cut off guard.
(37:24):
You don't remember to grab medications, insurance papers. I mean,
to get out with your.
Speaker 6 (37:31):
Life is enough.
Speaker 16 (37:33):
It is also you know, kindness is still out there
for everybody. Your coworkers are amazing, Darlene, for them to
show you such kindness in a time of just sadness
and sorroup and just don't know what's the next step,
what tomorrow is going to look like. It's really nice
and uplifting to know that people are still out there
(37:55):
being kind.
Speaker 9 (37:56):
Allude myself to Ryan and Darling.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
I don't know about that. Thank you, Marcy.
Speaker 5 (38:03):
I love you guys.
Speaker 16 (38:05):
You guys every morning, and you've got some amazing coworkers.
You guys just brighten my day. You put a smile
on my face. But I mean, I know today it's
it's just a little bit different, a little bit somber,
and just I wanted just to reach out and just
let everybody know. Just keep praying, keep helping, be kind,
be patient, be ready. You guys are amazing. Praying for everyone,
(38:28):
and have a good day. I'll keep listening.
Speaker 9 (38:33):
Thank you so much, Marcy, Yeah, you have a problem
with me.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
Ryan, I'm so glad to doe and I've never been
happy to see you.
Speaker 9 (38:41):
Good morning, Coast one of three point five. Thank you
for being up with us first thing in the morning.
Speaker 11 (38:46):
I'm a radio station.
Speaker 7 (38:48):
Listen to you guys wake me up and this is amazing.
Speaker 14 (38:50):
Thank you so much for making my morning so much
easier to wake up to see.
Speaker 5 (38:54):
L and K Morning Show on Coast one of three
point five.
Speaker 9 (38:58):
Point five, the only K Morning show. And as an evacuee,
I can't say it enough. Be ready, even if it's
just in your mind. Get it together, make a bag,
a go bag. And we've listed the six p's in
(39:22):
our blog, but you know, pictures prescriptions. Can't remember all
of them right now, but they are at Coast one
O three five dot com. And Megan, you heard us
talking about fireproof safes.
Speaker 7 (39:36):
Yeah, so a lot of fireproof safe. You just want
to check the manuals. A lot of them only have
like a ninety minute burn time, and like cast iron,
cast irons will melt and stick together and high temperatures
for fires. So if you have an option to like
grab stuff off the safe, I would, I would.
Speaker 9 (39:51):
Do so, okay, all right, So don't rely on a
fireproof safe. Yeah, okay, all right, yeah really good ninety
minute burn time. Just I mean, these fires get so
hot so fast.
Speaker 7 (40:03):
Yeah, definitely, so just if you have valuable to grab them,
if it means something too, and if you haven't, don't
stay behind for them. But if you, if you have
the time to do it, grab it.
Speaker 9 (40:14):
Thank you so much, Megan. Were you evacuated, Yes, we are.
Speaker 7 (40:17):
We're actually driving home right now to West Hollywood.
Speaker 9 (40:19):
Okay, all right, glad you're safe.
Speaker 7 (40:22):
Yes, thank you you too.
Speaker 9 (40:24):
Make sure you have aquafor or vassoline because I've been
around a lot of smoke. We were evacuated from the
Sunset fire, and my nose and lips are so chapped,
they hurt so bad, and I know that all of
us are, even if we don't even know it. We're
driving through the smoke where around. The smoke is so dry,
So have that in your car. Just stick it up
(40:46):
your nose and put it all over your mouth.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
It's funny. When darwalked in this morning, she couldn't get
enough eye drops, and she goes, they make lube for
our eyes, why don't they make lube for our nose?
And that is for your nose.
Speaker 9 (40:55):
Yeah, you just got to take a big glob and
just stick it up there.
Speaker 4 (40:59):
I accidentally left my AC on in my car driving
in and when I drove through the poor air quality,
my nose, my eyes, and my throat started feeling like burning.
So I was telling everyone turn your acs off.
Speaker 9 (41:13):
Yet, yes and stick that maasoline ride up that nose.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
Do you have some I needs?
Speaker 15 (41:18):

Mayor Bass fielding some tough questions, do.
Speaker 1 (42:39):
You think your leadership was effective while responding to this disaster?
Speaker 4 (42:44):
I just said what I believe is the most important
thing for us to do right now, and that is
going to continue to be my focus.
Speaker 1 (42:51):
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 9 (42:52):
Let's go, she said to that is saving lives, all right.
Airbnb announced it is offering free temporary housing to residents and.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
The LA wildfires.
Speaker 1 (43:02):
And what about this?
Speaker 9 (43:03):
This is solid. Every local Planet Fitness location opening their
doors to residents, first responders, and others affected or displaced
by the fires. They're offering free access to locker rooms, showers,
hydro massages, Wi Fi, electrical outlets, all things you need
when you're evacuated. I was lucky enough to be able
to go back home after the Sunset fire evacuation, but
(43:23):
this is huge. Planet Fitness will take you in if
you need a place to go at any time for
the next week is Planet Fitness. Also, if you've been displaced,
you need to grab some grub. Our friends at Doghouse
in Pasadena free house dogs, and there's a growing list
of local restaurants offering no cost meals for those in need.
Center Instagram stories at Coast one oh three five FM,
and we thank all of them for their warmth and aid.
(43:46):
All right, thankfully. The winds are dying down today twenty
five to thirty miles per hour from the northeast, but
the fire danger very much remains. Our red flag warning
in place through tomorrow night. Right now it is sixty
five in Burbank. We run on Celsia Energy Drinks. It's

Speaker 9 (44:13):
We're the LNK Morning Show. And we all of us
here in the studio just had a major treat.
Speaker 1 (44:21):
I'm Ellen man, I'm a social queen Darling producers.
Speaker 9 (44:26):
So I was evacuated Sunset fire, and the good news
is our homes are still intact. All those evacuations have
been lifted from the Sunset fire. But I was up
all night and we couldn't go home. We just had
to watch TV and wonder.
Speaker 11 (44:44):
And so.
Speaker 9 (44:46):
I'm listening to the radio this morning, listening to you
Darlene and Ryan and Mike, and Darlene said, wow, my
husband Alex made beans yesterday, and you know, I love
the beans, rice and cheese the BRC's that you make
for us and wrap them up in a tortilla. So, Darlene,
food is love and this plate represents so much more
(45:10):
than a BRC.
Speaker 1 (45:11):
Sure does.
Speaker 4 (45:11):
We were very anxious and worried about you guys, and
we started cooking and Alex is like, look, we have
a fresh pot of free hole is. And then I said,
let me make some rice. I'm making her some br cs.
Speaker 9 (45:24):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (45:26):
I'm glad you're here, and I'm glad you're okay.
Speaker 9 (45:28):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (45:30):
Like a tortilla. We want to just wrap around here.
Speaker 9 (45:36):
All right, let's go to uh you want to go
to Vicky? Vicky Vicky streaming us. Oh, Vicky, all right, Vicky,
you have a heavy heart.
Speaker 1 (45:44):
Just know that we are here for you.
Speaker 6 (45:46):
My home is Los Angeles, Santa Monica and the Powa Sake.
But due to battling cancer, I had no choice but
to move to the Midwest in Indiana to be with
my two brothers. My daughter came with me. My son
is still out there, and my church, the Santa Monica
Church of the Nazarene, has been my family for forty years.
(46:11):
And I hate it here and my heart is out here.
And if my heart is breaking, I can't imagic live
it for everybody out there involved. And I just hurt,
and I want to know that there's two beautiful hearts
here in Crawfordsville, Indiana that are there with all of them,
(46:33):
the people that have lost their homes, the firefighters, everybody,
and I just want to say I love you. I
always listen to Coast one three point five every day.
Speaker 16 (46:46):

very much, and God bless.

you guys bring so much positivity. I cannot even tell
you how exciting world are.
Speaker 5 (47:11):
Coast one oh three point five.
Speaker 9 (47:12):
Twenty people have been arrested for looting. And when I
was evacuated with my husband last night Hollywood Hills the
Sunset fire, we had our trunks open and we were
getting just everything in there that we needed for our
dogs and just to go, and this shady guy came
(47:33):
up to the foot of our stairs and said, do
you need help? Do you need help? And we'd never
seen her before. I'd say, he's like around thirty or so.
And then he said, I'm here to help you. Do
you need help? And we said no, we're good, and
the dogs are going crazy. But I just got that
feeling like the hair on the back of my neck
(47:53):
stood up. But looting, yeah, twenty people arrested, gash shut
offs affecting fifteen that's in Malibu and as you know,
multiple fires burning. Let's go to a thousand Oaks, Gary, Gary,
thank you for reaching out.
Speaker 11 (48:12):
I just wanted to say, you guys are awesome. You know,
we grew up in La. I grew up in La,
my wife in the valley, and we've been here our
whole lives and it's it's profound this fire. We have
not to get grim, but I mean the reality. Like
normally with news, you know, it's kind of abstract, but
(48:33):
when the reality hits. We have two friends, two one
of from high school that are in the Palisades, lost
both their houses. My best friend from high school is
in the Hollywood Hills and it's had to evacuate. We
have a rental house in Encino, which fortunately I think
is okay, but it was half a mile from the
(48:54):
Woodley fire, which I think about. And then our oldest
son was an eagle Rock and they do we evacuate.
My gosh, I mean, it's mind blowing.
Speaker 9 (49:03):
You know, our town will never be the same. It's
you know, that's going to be the reality that we
it's going to be a different it's just going to
be different.
Speaker 11 (49:12):
Yeah, well, thank you guys. Really, I really appreciate it,
Thank you, and really enjoy the show. You guys do
an awesome job.
Speaker 9 (49:19):
Thanks. You know, we're just ticket it as it comes,
and you're welcome to call us at eight hundred Aostan.
Speaker 5 (49:28):
It's the Lank Morning Show.
Speaker 19 (49:30):
Thank you, Ellen K just real quick, a little kiss
on you.
Speaker 11 (49:33):
Well, thank you so much for making my day.
Speaker 5 (49:35):
Host one O three point five.
Speaker 9 (49:36):
It's coast one of three point five, the only K
Morning Show. Firefighters on their way from Oregon and also
from Idaho, neighboring states, Arizona. Everyone's coming over to help.
Great efforts, big fights going on, so we need all
the help we can get. Sunset fire evacuations have been
(49:58):
lifted entirely. We were part to that evac We're the
lucky ones. And those helicopter firefighters I mean on the
ground and in the air, such precision. I don't know
how they do it. Anyway, We're so appreciative. All right, Well,
we give you the best mix of the eighties, nineties
(50:18):
and today. Kelly Clarkson's a big part of it. And
you may remember her son Remy saying, my way, Frank Sinatra.
Oh he's still loving the limelight.
Speaker 5 (50:29):
I came and I told you it was like everybody's
loving your video.
Speaker 16 (50:32):
Yeah, how much use did I get?
Speaker 5 (50:34):
Again? I'm gonna tell you how I went down. I said, man, buddy,
you've got like over a million news I think on
your and he goes, do you get that mini of you?
It's the Ellen Morning Show.
Speaker 14 (50:46):
Thank you so much for making my morning so.
Speaker 5 (50:48):
Much easier to wake up to Coast one O three
point five.
Speaker 9 (50:51):
Thank you for spending your morning with us. I want
to thank my family, Ryan, Darlene, Mike, thank you so
much for caring and looking after me and helping us
through our evacuation. We're so lucky that we are able
to go back home, all of us who evacuated for
the Sunset fire in Hollywood.
Speaker 1 (51:10):
But it's.
Speaker 9 (51:13):
It's a traumatic thing. So be ready. Just be ready
when you get the alerts that we got last night,
right around dinner times, right around six pm. And they
came one after another, and then the knocks on the door,
and when they come, you really need to go. It
sounds like this.
Speaker 19 (51:32):
This is an emergency message from notify LA, the City
of Los Angeles emergency alert.
Speaker 18 (51:37):
System LAFD evacuate now from the area of Runyon Canyon.
Those not in the evacuation area should shelter in place.
Evacuation order for sunset max and information can be found
at LAFD dot org slash.
Speaker 9 (51:52):
Alerts do it. So many people who lost their homes
lost everything in the Palisa fire or saying the same thing.
We have friends who did lose their home and they
were texting me and calling last time, saying get out,
just get out and have your go bag ready. You
never know and it's going to come to your door.
(52:15):
And Darlene, thank you so much for breakfast this morning.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
You're welcome.
Speaker 9 (52:19):
I want to thank my son Calvin. I think that
the hardest part.
Speaker 1 (52:25):
When you're on the go like that and how much
time are we talking to, like twenty minutes to get
to just like get your head together and get some stuff.
Speaker 9 (52:33):
Yeah, yeah, I would say, Max, because they're waiting for
you too, like it's almost like an escort out.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
Yeah, make sure you're safe.
Speaker 9 (52:40):
Was facetiming with him and he wanted me to take
pictures of his room. It was so hard. Yes, he's
up at school and anyway, we're just grateful. That's why
We're going to end the show with a gratitude quote.
Gratitude is when memory is stored in the heart and
not in the mind.
Speaker 1 (53:00):
Kah, love you guys, Love you am glad you're here.
Speaker 9 (53:02):
Kiss on three, kissing one two, three.
Speaker 2 (53:12):
Dots that there.
Speaker 6 (53:14):
Is a lie.
Speaker 1 (53:16):
Somewhere.
Speaker 11 (53:27):
H
