(00:00):
But Stefani is here. I can'tbelieve it. I'm so blessed. Good
morning, Thank you for being Gwenand being here on coasts. Oh my
gosh, my favorite. I walkinto the room. You guys, I
don't know if you can see this. Most of you can't because you're probably
in your car and there's a gigantic, monstrous bouquet or what is this an

(00:23):
arrangement of purple irises? And I'mjust like, I cannot stop steering,
and I was like, I wasjust saying, I think those are Siberian
irises, because there's bearded irises. And then the fact that you even these
are these ones, I think bloomearlier and that's why you were able to
find out. Okay, the beardedones are not ready yet. Does it

(00:43):
look like I had one balloom sofar? And I think it was just
here in California because we are becauseit's California, we get everything. Yeah,
So when did you start saying whenyou write the song, Well,
honestly, I am a huge flowerlike flower person. Yeah, like me
and Blake, it's the yeah, like we come together when it comes to

(01:06):
that, Like I'm the one thatshowed him. It was during twenty twenty.
We I was like, can't wejust like because he plants like a
lot of you know, alfalfa orlike you know weeds. Yeah, and
like we we I don't even plantthings you could eat, like plants,
except for the animals. But they'rehuge fields like on a tractor, like

(01:27):
full like full farmer guy right,And it's exciting even to see that happen
because the challenges of Oklahoma farming islike it's not a joke. Like the
weather's crazy and it's like there's somuch against you and there's monster weeds there
and it's crazy. But anyways,I've always loved it. So I said,
let's can we plant some zinias?I call them zenas, but everyone

(01:48):
calls them zenia, So I said. I convinced him, and when they
came up, he just couldn't believeit, Like, so he got in
started getting into it. We startednoticing all the Oklahoma wildflowers, and it
was mostly during twenty twenty because wewere there so much and we were able
to actually see like the seasons changingand see what what things you don't see
if you're not there all at thetime. So long story short, we
ended up at when we were intwenty twenty, the whole family was there

(02:13):
in quarantine and we went on likea little wreki around like the ranch,
just trying to find undiscovered stuff. And we came across this old abandoned it
was probably there one hundred years likea homestead, like small, like smaller
than this room, like almost crumbledto the ground, and around it was
all these purple irises. No.Yeah, and so the irises must have
been planted from like one hundred yearsago. Yeah, And so the irises

(02:36):
are super hardy and they can gothrough whether any kind of storm and like
it doesn't you don't have to doanything, and they'll just literally come back
to life every year. And sowe we transplanted them all the kids pulled
them out hundreds and we planted themover where we were living. And then
then, you know, so that'swhere I got picking purple irises, because
at the end of the day,no matter what happens, that's that's what
we're doing. And that's that's that'samazing, you know, that's love.

(03:00):
It was so bad. I lookedit up in the floriography. You did
not I did floriography. I didn'teven know what that is. Yeah,
I think it's the study of flowers. The floriography says that purple irises represent
faith, courage, hope, wisdom, and valor. So well, that's
amazing. And then you wrote thesong together. No, not at all.

(03:23):
Okay, So I had been writing, like trying to write like a
record forever because I just I wastrying to I've been talking about this a
lot, but like I feel likeas a mom, you guys all probably
know, like it's like it's hardto find time to do things that are
like to me. I consider beinga songwriter and going and doing that like
a selfish thing because it's not likeI have. It's like if I want

(03:45):
a new song, like why wouldI need one? Like I would have
to take like Hall of bat Girlout of the set to play another song,
you know what I mean. LikeI don't need another new song,
like nobody's waiting for it. Likeeveryone's gonna listen to the songs they like
already, you know what I mean. But I want to write a new
song because I love writing songs becauseit's a spiritual thing where if God chooses,
he'll like send one to me.So I'm always like praying for it,

(04:05):
like please, because it's the greatestfeeling ever. It just came to
me purple iris. I was like, that's the song, and that's like
a god thing, you know.So it wasn't a duet and I was
actually writing a song to Blake aboutmy feelings and I played it for him
like I do everything, and hewas he loved it and it had it

(04:27):
for a long time because then Iwent on to write like all the songs
that are gonna end up being myrecord. But this was kind of the
point where I was like, oh, I now I know where I live,
this is the world. And sohe kind of I don't want to
say hinted, but he was kindof like, don't put that out like
that, like don't put that out. Don't just save that one. And
I'm like, why are you sayingthat? And long story short, he
kind of like I was like,do you want to hop on this?

(04:47):
Like I didn't want to be likeI didn't want to ask him because everyone
asked him and I don't want himto think I'm trying to like use him
to like, you know, mysong, but you know what I mean,
Like I would never and plus it'slike a it was a pop song,
like how would that work? Youknow what I mean? And he
his voice is like I do.It's very specific. But I was sitting

(05:12):
at the studio one day and Ijust texted him, I'm like, you
want to try to hop on this? And he was like twenty minutes later
he was there and he sang it, and it was just like a true
miracle situation, like to the pointwhere the street that we recorded on the
studio in Nashville was called Iris Street. Oh no, I swear, I
swear, and Okay, this islike just the universe. It really was.

(05:33):
Signs. It's such an easy songto do, like it just feels
so magical to do live. Andwe did it at the TikTok tailgate and
that was also like I'm like alwaysthe kind of person that's gonna be like
I'm gonna screw this up for sure, Like I'm such a I always mess
up, but it's just who Iam and like and I did it.

(05:55):
It was a miracle. See everything'sto Fannie that comes alone and tries to
love you like I love you Nowonder now Purple Chelsey Gwen Stefani Purple Iris

(07:33):
go in the kitchen. In thebackground, Gwen Stefani, Oh my
god, no doubt. Coachella, congrats, thank you. That's just a
crazy that's gonna be wow, that'sgonna be insane. I think the most
exciting thing is just hearing how excitedeveryone else everyone. Yes, I don't

(07:57):
shocked. I mean I think everyonewas just blown away with such a great
like, hey, guess what soare we We're just shocked too. And
I think that we're gonna get upthere and it's just going to be like
riding a bike, and it's justgonna be like, Okay, let's let's
show them what we got. Guys, bring Blake up on stage and do
purple irises so everyone can hear alive. All right, Ellen, Yeah that

(08:18):
is my wish. Yeah, Ellen'sgonna call you Tony. Okay, you
got a big year for all yourkids. You're gonna have an eighteen year
old, sixteen year old, andthen Apollo's going double digits. Yes,
that's so cool. Yes, wetalked Apoulow into having a disco party this
weekend. Oh yeah, we gotall our costumes. I will be posting

(08:39):
on Instagram. I want to see. It's gonna be fun. My mom's
actually having her birthday and my bigmy little brother's having a birthday. So
we're having a big, a bigparty. Has some fun. They're petting
suits. Ah, that's great.Wait, I can't believe it's ten though.
Ten it's so weak. It's socool, everybody. He's just a
little baby, I know, well, you know that when I started on

(09:01):
the voice, he was four months. Yes, because Blake talks about the
car seats and the baby seat whenwhen you guys like started talking and he's
like, she'd pull up in herminivan with these car seats and a baby
seat. I think he told thestory at Your Star starting, and I
remember that that's a funny story too, because I remember I when I had

(09:22):
the third one, I was like, Okay, the other two still needed
help getting in their chairs, andI was like, how am I gonna
if you have like an suv,Like, how am I going to get
them up and in holding the base? Yeah, of course I have nannies
and stuff, but it's like it'sstill really hard with the diaper bag and
like all of it. So Igot myself a odyssey. What was the
car that has the sliding door thaton his own and then it does its

(09:45):
own thing and it's pretty nerdy looking, right, And I was like I
don't care, like this is justfunctioning, Like we have to make this
work. And so that was theThat was the car I had at the
time when I started the voice, and I think everybody was like what what
is she rolling up? Like legitsoccer mom? And then I remember they
were like I was driving my kidsto soccer practice for real, And they

(10:07):
were like Okay, Eminem's going tobe calling you today at some point because
he wants you to beat hop onthis song, and you know, like
that's Eminem. It's like I'm Iliterally shake just when his name is mentioned
and I get the call coming throughthe car and it's it's literally him calling
me. I have all the kidsin this odyssey and I'm like, oh
my gosh, I'm mole hole andI'm like, oh my gosh, Eminem,

(10:30):
like I'm in the car with thekids. Like in case he was
going to like say any Eminem stuff, I don't know what he was going
to say. And I was like, I'm legit going to soccer practice right
now. You sure you want meto hop on your song? And it's
a Gwen Stefani takeover, Keep ithere on Coast Purple Virus is out,

(11:07):
Gwen and Blake and when Stefani heremore Gwen coming up, just keep it
right here on Coast one of threepoint five on Coast one of three point

gender reveal for us with one ofour listeners, Vanessa Venegis, all right,

(11:28):
when you were at the Honda Centerand guess what, she's still pregnant.
Oh my gosh. I think shehas five weeks to go and the
baby's middle name will be Gwen Gwenny. A are a little serious? Yeah,
that is amazing. She's available, can you say right now? Well,
we could call her if you wantto say hi? That is we
have her number. Yeah. Imade a note to myself. That's not

(11:50):
long ago she was was she justpregnant? Oh? She just found out
what sex? So that has beenwhat two three months? I didn't know,
Like I didn't you know, there'sso many people out there you don't
like know which one to listen totheir Yeah, to talk to them.
And this is her. Wow,Okay, hello Vanessa, your on the

(12:11):
point is here in the room withus for purple irises and also because we
just love her, and she cameto hang and we told her that you
have five weeks to go with yourbaby and you're going to name your baby
girl with Gwen in the middle. That's insane. Hi, Vanessa, how
is the pregnancy. Hi, it'sactually going you know what. I'm just

(12:33):
blessed that I'm having a baby.So I don't it's going well enough where
I feel blessed. Oh my gosh, I am. I am jealous,
Like if I didn't love being pregnant, I gotta be honest. But when
you're out of it, you lookback and you're like, God, that
was the most incredible thing, likejust feeling a baby move in your body
and like just the whole anticipation.I'm so happy for you. I can't

(12:54):
believe I get to be part ofthe name, like what that is.
And you know that when I flewup, nobody had nobody I knew how
the name Gwen is a family. It was your Nokay, it's a really
weird story, my mom. I'mgoing to tell it because since the name
will be part of this daughter, her daughter, I came to myself actually,
but it's been it's been a goodname for me. So no,

(13:18):
it's it's great. I love thename, and I actually like I would

you were a little kid named Gwen. Yes, Well, they used to
call me. A lot of myfamily called me Gwenny, and I'm trying
to think of the other. Thatwas pretty much the only the only nickname

that I would ever have, andthat was literally just f like not my
not my immediate family, like myrelatives like my aunts and uncles and stuff
like that. That's so cool?Is what's your nickname for? Does Blake
have a nickname for you? Hecalls me pretty girl? Oh I saw
the flowers he was sending you whenyou guys were like releasing and talking about
the album and everyone's like, whatare they doing? And he had all
the cards said pretty girl. Ohmy gosh, he is When he said

(14:03):
that to me the first time, and because his act, accent and everything,
and I was like, is thishappening to me right now? Like
is my boyfriend actually? And hekept doing it and I was like,
oh my god, I have diedand gone to heaven. Like I was
like, how is he going tosay this when I'm like seventy But hopefully
it will work out? Pretty girl? Yeah? Well, Vanessa, good

(14:26):

Thank you for giving me a call. This is this is amazing this
has really been like it doesn't feelreal because like if I would have told
myself this when I was seven yearsold that this would be happening, I
wouldn't believe it. And so thisis just amazing. I imagine my seven
year old me getting my name, like getting named after that. That's it's

(14:48):
