Speaker 1 (00:00):
Paul DeMarco joins us in the studio. Now, good to
see him. You're all dressed up and you got court today,
don't you, sir? You got you. I'm going in front
of a judge, suit on there looking pretty good. Good
to see it. Good morning, hope you're will let me
be the first to say Mary Christmas to you.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
In your studium. I'm getting ready for the for the turkey,
I'm getting ready for Thanksgiving. Yes, yes, like thirty people
come into our house?

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Are you?

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Are you the head chef at your place? No?

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Who does everybody? Everybody the whole game. Everybody's bringing in.
That's what we do to everybody's bringing in, whoever hosts,
and it's been us most recently. We handle the bird,
We get the turkey, maybe a little side him over
here from Honey Baked Tam you can't go run, And
then everybody else brings the goodies. We have a tradition,
me and the kids and I might pumpkin pie.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Oh so you do a little something together. That's kind
of cool. Is that your go to number one pint
for Thanksgiving? Yes? It's number two. Okay, all right, very good.
You know, speaking of the holiday, Lindsay Sterling. You've heard
of Lindsay Sterling before, right, you know she's got some
Christmas music. She's out on a Christmas tour right now.

(01:07):
Oh here she is, John, Thank you though, Oh yeah,
crank it up. She's an incredible violinist. Oh yeah, I
mean she's on tour. She's going to be here in
town on I believe December first. And guess who has
tickets to give away? We do, so I'll tell you what.
We're going to be playing the Secret Sound coming up
here in about ten minutes or so. Absolutely, And why

(01:28):
do we do that? Why don't we get a listener
on the game with us? John, We can bring in
a listener, so it gonna be one of our listeners
and Paul and me playing the Secret Sound this week.
Here's the phone number if you'd like to play the
Secret Sound game with us and a chance to win
some tickets to go see Lindsay Sterling here in town
on December first. Call us right now, call her nine.
Let's go with that. Two O five four three nine

(01:50):
nine three seven two four three nine nine three seven
two call us if we'd like to play the game
with us a lot of fun and the show will
be fantastic too, two O five, four to three, nine nine,
three to seven to two. All right, well, John's running up.
Somebody who played the secret sound with us. I got
to ask you, you know, about what's going on with
the Senate race here in Alabama. As we all know,
it's probably going to be Governor Tommy Tubberville, which we'll

(02:12):
leave that seat vacant, and a lot of people are
throwing their name and hat here. Doug Jones he's running.
You've got Jared Hudson, former seal in Jefferson County Sheriff
Cannon is also running. Steve Marshall is also running. And
now the one and only Paul Finebaum is talking about

(02:33):
running for the Senate seat as well. I mean, do
you think Paul's really wanting to run for senator or
is he trying to get a new contract at the ESPN.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Yeah, and let's get back to Doug Jones in a second,
because now it looks like he may be running against
Senator Tuberville for governor. But let's talk about Paul Finebaum first.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Oh oh, no, I think you're right.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, yeah, but well let's get back to that.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
That's what I heard about it.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Let's but let's talk about Paul Fine Mama. You know
it's interesting he moved back to Alabama and his con
tracks up for negotiation.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
So there you go.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
There, he's probably watching all these coaches. How do you
get your contract?

Speaker 1 (03:07):
All right, Paul, if you're listening, and I know you listen,
you can call us and we'll talk about it. Two five, four, three, nine, nine,
three seventeen. I you know what, Look, Tommy Turberville was
not a politician. We've seen a lot of non politicians
jump into the ring here, Donald Trump the biggest one. Uh,

(03:27):
and now Paul Feinebaum potentially throwing his name in the
hats here. So do you do you think he'd be
a good senator? I mean, he's certainly a well known name.
He's got that going. Well.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
You know what is interesting is you know he he's sports,
but he's taught politics before. But you know, I think
is that what Alabamians are looking for in a Paul
Fine bomb?

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Well?

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Look, well, no, soon enough because qualifying is less than
sixty days j T. Yeah, it's the first of January.
I think it's January fifth or so till January twenty third.
So you know, we're less than sixty days. Now we'll
know who's in and who's out. Now, there's always surprises
on qualifying, so we'll see if something happens with that.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
All right, you're right, Doug Jones is not in the
Senate race. He's he's looking at the governor's race. I
hear he's in.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Well he might be. So we have a rematch between
Senator Tuberville and Doug Jones again.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
And once again, is that what Alabama wants?

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Well, I don't think Hill is the prohibitive favored in
this race.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Yeah, I think Doug Jones is a good guy, good lawyer.
I mean, we've had him on the show before and
you know, but he's a Democrat in a red state.
You know, I don't think that he will win.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
But I think Senator Tuberville wants to do in Alabama.
And look as an example, Ron de Santis in Florida
what he has done to transform Florida into the state
it is, and so some of those changes, and that's
what I think Senator Tuberville wants to do with Alabama
when it comes to the budgets and public safety and
other issues like that.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
So well, I mean high step Ka. I mean she's
not going to be, you know, in the hunt again,
so she can she's moving on. So yeah, I with you.
I'm thinking what Tommy's latest polling numbers were seventy percent
chance he's going to win this thing. So I mean,
that's that's a tough.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Now, So that's wheybody's gonna be looking at the Senate
race and lieutenant governor, attorney general all these other races
because that's that's going to be you.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Are you endorsing anybody for the center race here? You
have a I'm an idea on who win.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
I mean, we've got there will be a great field
of candidates.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Uh do you endorsing anybody at this point? No?

Speaker 2 (05:31):
No, but but you know I would also like everybody else.
Let's see what what it looks like with with qualifying
and everything.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
But there's a lot of good candidate I think, yeah,
it did some is Barry More throwing.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
The Congressman, Barry Moore, Jared Hudson and Steve Marshall and
you know, we'll call fine bomb, We'll see, we'll see
if that's time, but we'll know, sir.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Well, it's something you follow as well as crime in
our country and in our state, in our cities, and uh,
we have a big prison project going on right now
to build a new one. And it's a price you
win one point two billion dollars. But apparently somebody put
the brakes on it. The way to avoid the problems
in the prison system, don't commit crimes and you won't

(06:10):
have to go through what's going on.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
But I just want to hear the outrage about what's
going on with crime victims as much as I do
with the prisons. That's what I ask.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
I'm with you. I'm with you one hundred percent. I'm
with you one hundred percent. Let's talk about the prison
they're building, right. Have they broke ground? Is this it?

Speaker 4 (06:23):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Yeah, and we were supposed to spend we were supposed
to have two prisons for a billion. Now we're going
to have two prisons for two point five billion.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Yes, it's pricey. You want to do it right, you
got to spend money. So now there's a big hiccup
in the process on this one point two billion dollar prison.
What is it?

Speaker 2 (06:42):
It's going to be the construction delays. It's going to
open up in October now based on the contract. To
understand it's going to be on the contract or not
on the state for the penalties. But we need to
get them open. We need to get this second one open.
We don't have the facilities we need right now. It's
been an issue with the federal litigation and what's going on. Look,

(07:03):
I'm not going to defend if there are issues going
on the prisons, but we need to get them built
and make sure we also have enough prison sales to
take care of the population that we have. We don't
need to reduce the size and then say, oh, we're
gonna have to let violent felons out of prison. And
that's what concerns me.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Well, I just wondered why they slowed down, and.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
I think it's just been delays all along. You know,
this has been a it has gone up in price exponentially.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
So I was like, wait a minute, Yeah, we're going
into this thing for seven hundred and fifty thousand. How
do we get to one point two billion on?

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Yeah, and that's going to re look at this. Now
they have to build. They're bidding out another one. That's
going to probably be another build, So it's got to
be done.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Well, all right quickly. Mandani in New York elected mayor
a disastrous election. I don't know what these people are
thinking that voted him in here, but all of a sudden, oh,
look at his policies. It can't really happen because he
has no say on raising taxes. And the governor Governor
Honco quickly reminded him, I don't know what you're thinking here,
but I'm not raising Texas to accomplish your socialist you

(08:03):
know crap that you're trying to.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Do well, not only socialism and communism, but terrorist sympathizer people.
To watch what's going on in New York. Yes, all
three of those issues.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
By the way, forty two Muslims elected that week. That's
Mndannie wasn't the only one. And I like Jim Jordan's
push now to get legislation that you have to be
a US born citizen to serve in our Congress.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
It's despicable. He has embraced some of the terrorists. When
it comes to New York City, where we had nine
to eleven in the First World Trade Center, it's discussing.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Businesses and Jews are going to be leaving that city
in droves in three two. Oh, there they go. I
mean it's horrible what New York's about to go through.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Well, and Seattle just elected a scientist as well, and
so it's people need to be paying attention.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
All right, you've got the secret sound, John, you got
I have the secret talent? You know? Is it time
we can? We can?

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Oh, price is right, I got it on a new car.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
All right, interesting secret sound. We can see the wave
file on this in the audio file and it's a
bizarre looking secret sound.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
So that's about half a second of audio. I have
two versions, the long version, the short version. The short
versions a half second, the long versions about a second
and a half.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Half second the long version of short version. I'm voting
along as well. Okay, well get it on the first.
Let's get our correspondent, of course, as a contestant. Our
contestant on the phone. Alison from Vestavia is going to
play with us this morning. And Allison, good morning, Welcome in,
thanks for being.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Here, good morning, how are y'all.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
We're fantastic, thank you for listening to By the way,
so I do want to let you know that we
have some very nice tickets up for grabs for you
to go see Lindsey Sterling in concert. She'll be in
town on December first, I believe at the concert. So yes,
all right, so you know how we play the game, John,
I'll let you explain for those listening as well, how
we do this.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
I procured a sound. It ties into something that happened
in the new Who's This Week? In fact, we talked
about on this show, and we're gonna go round Robin.
And I think since Alison's the guest, I feel like
she should actually guess last because that well.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
Let me explain.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
I think the first person guess guess actually has the
least chance of getting it because the by the third
person you have a chance to have some clues. Yeah,
you've already cad.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
That's okay.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
How about this, I'll let you pick, Alison, would you
like to be first or last in guessing the sound?
And she's got a disadvantage because he's listening on the phone.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Well, no, she can hear pretty clear. We've clarified that
with our listeners. They can hear pretty well. So but
you know, Alison, I will tell you this. Paul is
a professional and he wins quite a bit, and he's
a ringer. He's been known to pay off John for clues.
I'm kidding, all right, So do you want to go
first or last?

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Well, I listened to y'all all the time, so I've
heard this many times. And because of that, I think
I'd like to go last, even though Paul may may
get it on the first shot, I think I'd like
to go last.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Very good at Allison. All Right, Paul, you get to
go first. Here's the secret sound listen, and it's been
a side.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
I'm going to the long version.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
Yeah, we're gonna play it twice.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
Okay, here we go. Ready, that was once. I'm gonna
play one more time.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
I think I know what it is. What it is
Penny dropping on there?

Speaker 1 (11:22):
See, Allison, he's the professional.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
This week was the last week pennies were made. And
I know how John thinks. He tries to get something
that's relevant in the news, and also that I can
get on in the studio.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
What do you think, Allison?

Speaker 3 (11:34):
What you know what? I was actually thinking that very
thing that was? That was pretty easy.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Well, and you sound like an honest person, you know,
And had you gone first, you would have got it then.
So we're gonna give.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
You the ticket.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Yes, you get the ticket. Yes, you get the tickets.
Of course, we're not gonna let you leave.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
Man. Awesome, we'll take you. I'm a very honest person,
and I really did think that.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
Well, yeah, yeah, I believe job. I believe you get
tickets soon. Well, Alison, hold on, we're getting all the
information from you, and we'll tell you how you can
get your tickets. And I really appreciate your listen.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Yes, absolutely, can I can I give a little shameless
plug here, sure I was. I was on your show
a few months ago talking about my book You've been
Drinking Muddy Water, Alison.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
I didn't know that. Well, yes, yes, my mother in
law I read your book, loves your book. I mean
very good.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
Oh yeah, awesome, awesome. I'm so glad to hear that.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Well.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
I thought i'd just throw it out there because it's
a good Christmas gift and so all right, anyway, what's
the name.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Of the book again, and where you can people buy it?

Speaker 3 (12:43):
You've Been Drinking Muddy Water and Other Southern Tales and
it is available on Amazon.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Very good. Well, hold on, Alison, Merry Christmas to it.
Thank you for listening to it.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
I appreciate you, all right, thank you'all.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Eight thirty now Alabama's morning news. How about I didn't
realize that. Very good and yeah here it's a great
book too, So all right, thanks Paul.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
Good to see you have great weekend.

Speaker 1 (13:06):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
