O'Brien, Roll tide, roll Yeah. I would like to just go ahead
and put that on my Christmas wishlist for the year. Okay, Now,
before we get into all of thewhat we're gonna get into. I
went on Twitter or now known asx earlier a day or two ago,
and I asked for some help ingetting some fresh roll tides phoned into the
(01:55):
Uncle Henry Show. And what happened, Well, there's there's an account on
Twitter called Title Towel, and TitleTowel promoted my tweet. They have a
a it is a Obama rally towelthat they sell. I suppose is it
your tweet or your ex Well,I don't know. John McNeil aren't confusing
(02:17):
me. But I asked him tohelp me out with this and I got
they. They they retweeted my tweetto all of their followers and I got
a few new road times to sharewith you. First, this is from
the Title Towel people. Titlew Nowwe like that because we like little children
being propagandized. We do, don'twe out in the right way? Yeah,
(02:42):
that's a that's a good In fact, speaking of little children, my
kids are listening right now, SoCharlie and Neelie are listening. That sounds
like one of them takes taught sayingrold Tide. We'll have to get a
video footage of that. All right, Now, your kids, Charlie and
Neelie. You're you're gonna the kidsare gonna like this guy. I think
his name is jab. He sawthe tweet two What it do? What
it do with your boy? JBstarts out to Uncle Herry, title towel,
(03:04):
roll tide, Thicky'll most Sports Talkingwith JB so live on YouTube.
Sports Talking with JB starts out oftitle towel and roll tide. Now,
was that one of the best rolltides? Listen? That was a good
play the roll tide. Here isan instant replay on the road tide side
(03:25):
and they're good. That's good.That's a good one. That's a that's
a favorite. First, you're gonnahave to heart that one. We're gonna
put that in the archives and keepthat going. Let's see, we've got
another Twitter ex roll tide, rolltide, Uncle Henry, listen, Diddy,
have a good one, all right? I don't know Diddy or Denny
do whoever you are, God blessyou and roll tide road to you also
(03:47):
had to someone blend a little bitof politics and Alabama love Henry, road
tide, bron I just gotta hearsome frital. You were clips place up
today, I would appreciate it,all right. I will look. I
will look for some of the wellyou used to play Ronald Reagan a lot
(04:10):
you know his uh clips, Yeah, inspiring clips. Inspiring clips. Well
you're yes, I have played alot of inspiring clips from Ronald Reagan.
I'll get to one in fact, right now, here's a quick thirty seconds
on the topic of the Alabama CrimsonTide from Ronald Reagan. Football teaches values
you were used throughout your life.Eleven people working together, working for a
(04:33):
common goal. If you get knockeddown, you must get up and try
harder. Your opponent may be biggerand stronger, but you must do your
best. Teamwork, perseverance, reactingto adversity, attributes needed for success.
That's what college football means to meenjoy college football. An American tradition route
(04:58):
and one final quick row tide thatwas phoned in. This is from a
friend to the show, Bama bigMan roll Tide role. Look, Henry,
Now, that's as vigorous as hesounded in years. That's a good
one. He was spunky. Thatmust have been another. That must have
been an old one, because BevinVigmah have done something like that right now.
I don't think doesn't roll tad roll. Look, Henry, he got
that spunk right there, spunky funky, we'll kind he sunk, he said
(05:21):
of Bam, a big man. He's probably listening. Pull up Facebook and
see if he's a spunky big man. Spunky big man, new name alert,
that's what it is. It's allright, very good. So the
two of you, you've got connectionsto the Alabama Crimson Tide roll Tide roll?
What can you tell us? Haveyou have you talked to your inside
connections on you know, Nick Sabanalready being criticized by Paul Fine bamb And
(05:45):
and Tim Brando for being he says, those guys say he's being mean to
the media, doesn't it How doyou listen to Paul Fine Bob Anymore.
I wouldn't know. I can't.I don't, I can't, but I
know they're saying that he's being meanto the media. Not releasing the depth
chart. He's been condescending that he'sbeing too mean. Nick Saban, Now
you're you're an insighter. What areyou hearing? Okay, So, so
(06:10):
he has not released the depth chartas of about forty five minutes ago,
when we left office to come here. But he have a good reason for
that. Did you see what hisreasoning was for that? Is that nobody
is a backup player. There isnobody. Everybody has to compete every day
to be number one starter. Okay, so the depth chart in release.
Uh, and that's the first timehe's been in Alabama seventeen years, Uncle
(06:32):
Henry, Wow. And he hasalways he's always been late. You know,
we know almost every other team startinglineup way before now, but he's
never gone this late before leading releasingthe depth chart. So is it him?
Is it Tommy reis the new offensivecoordinator? Is he? You know
(06:55):
they're the ones who are the twoof them are making and others? Yeah,
but you know what is it?But I think it's good? Is
it a smoke screen? Is ita deflection? You know? We come
again against Middle Tennessee State in abouthow many hours? We're down in the
hours now? Yes, we areroll roll up and then we have Texas
(07:16):
and uh, my freshest daughters sittingnext to me here and her husband,
the Savant Gray and my wife aregoing and I've got some other two guests
when we're going to the Texas game. Weekend after next very good. So
anyway, I don't know why hehadn't hadn't released it, but I'm glad
he hadn't. I've got a theoryon this, especially for the quarterback situation.
(07:39):
That's the big question, right, everybody's wondering who who is the I
think they're so good, they're bothso good. Wasn't really three of them,
four of them, but we've gotfour. It's three, it's and
then in the top two you've gotJailing and Time. But but I think
it's because maybe they're both so goodthey don't even they don't know yet.
They may be planning both. Whoknows, one may be lined up as
(08:01):
a as a split back prediction here. I don't know. I'm just saying
I wouldn't wouldn't put it path.We have some top star recruits out there
now. Listener, whether you hearJohn McNeil and Virginia Brian speculating with with
what we call speculatory knowledge. Idon't speculator knowledge now, they speculatory knowledge.
(08:26):
Now, they're using a lot ofspeculatory knowledge. But let's all remember
that they they do have inside connectionsthat they don't speak of. On the
air. They this could we whoknows, I mean, this could be
the plan. They're not going toreveal it to us, but they do
have insider information. If I hadto guess, if I polished up the
crystal ball, which batteries were kindof dead at our crystal ball? Oh
(08:48):
wait, we gotta go to break. We're gonna look in the crystal ball.
Next on The Clanry Show, RuleDad Roll, Look, Henry Uncle
Henry showed News Radio seven ten wN Tim, John McNeil and Virginia O'Brien
(09:11):
are here. Had a lot totalk to them about, including Alabama football,
their trip to the Stock Exchange, all these things. If you want
to call in, you can twofive one four seven nine two seven two
three two five one four seven ninetwo seven two three. Before we went
to break, John mcneilan, Virginiao brien, we're gonna look into to
a crystal ball on the Alabama season. What are you gonna tell us?
(09:31):
What do you see? What arethe insiders telling you? Forty eight ten
University of Alabama wins. That's thescore. That's gonna be the score this
Saturday, this Saturday against said okay, and and I think the Crystal Ball
tells me, this is just me. I don't want to get away in
trouble. But ja jaital Millro isprobably going to be a starting quarterback.
(09:56):
He's probably gonna start. Okay,he's got plenty of you know, he
did a great job last year, you know, coming in behind one of
the greatest quarterbacks we've ever had.Yeah, and uh, but we've got
you know, ty And and Tylerand Dylan and we got we got a
bunch of quarterbacks. But you know, I'm curious to see how Tommy Reis,
(10:18):
the new offensive coordinator, calls youknow, what's going to go on.
I was talking to only watching thepress conferences of saving, but also
talking to some of the people whoare there, and Uh, they're not
having any more practices, you know, very light practices. What they're doing
right now is they're practicing on focus. They're in the they're in the classrooms
(10:41):
basically in the Uh, they're workingon penalties. You remember last year how
many penalties we had. Yes,and he said, he said, they've
gotten so much better at practice anduh, but they're they're working on mental
practice right now because he thinks thatthe team is physically ready to play.
(11:03):
I just want to get the mentalYou gotta get going. You gotta get
the mental health. Are you getWe've got the physical health down. That's
a big When mental health is,I would say, is arguably just as
important. You gotta be able tobelieve in yourself and you know, be
focused. And hey, look whenhow many people go to that stay is
one hundred and four thousand, what'sthe capacity of our two thousand and stately
(11:24):
all right? When you got onehundred two thousand people screaming at you,
are screaming for you, are boththat's uh, that's a little distracting a
number of millions of people watching onTV. Yeah, I would uh,
I would say my focus might breaka little bit. So that's good.
I'm glad they're working on that.We got a lot more. We can
talk about a roll tide rollo rotira all right. Now, we had
the John McNeil roll Tide. McNeil, well, that's not the roll Tide,
(11:48):
that's just the John McNeil. Now, Virginia, you said in the
last segment you want that for Christmas. I was a little jealous. I
don't have one. We did geta voicemail phoned in listened. I think
we might have somebody trying to provideyou with one. Hey, olbra Henry,
snake trapper, here's your an introductoryfor miss Virginia O'Brien. I sent
(12:11):
it early, and I may havesaid miss Virginia O'Neil, But anyway,
here it is Virginia O'Brien. Whoawhat I like it? He was saying,
whoo, Now, come on,I like it. He's excited.
It's spunky, you know, O'Brien. Whoa Virginia O'Brien, whoa? Yeah,
(12:35):
I like it. Snake Trapper, you've provided meritorious service to the to
the program in the past, butthat was a little lacking in out.
Well, you're competing against a reallyone of the deepest voices, John mc
neil. Now listen, I likeit. I'm very Oh you like the
woo, the whoo. I mean, it's like, you know, give
(12:56):
me a round of applause. It'slike a standing jet call from a call
is very excited. You knows.I like it. I don't. Okay,
Hey, I'll entertain other tryouts. You know. If anybody else wants
to get call in a roll tizefor Virginia, that's Okay, I'm good,
but I did. I appreciate it. Snake Trapper, thank you so
much. All Right, where we'regoing now? The number to call here's
(13:20):
two five one four seven nine twoseven two three. If you want to
try and beat out the snake trapperthing, they're two five one four seven
nine two seven two three. Wecan talk a lot about Alabama football,
and we will before we leave thetopic temporarily. I saw that they're gonna
have a lot of new things atBryant Denny Stadium, uh, Champions Lane
(13:43):
for Crimson Tide fans. Northwest ofBryant Denny Stadium, on the lawn behind
the Tusk statue. Champions Lane,we'll have food trucks, sound stage,
a lounge with casual seating, sponsoractivations, led video boards for fans to
watch other college football games. Isthis near the Walk of Champions, Yes,
(14:03):
to the west of the Walk ofChampion You know where the Champions Lane?
Okay, all right, Champions Lane? So where the pop those dirney
ass where the fire house was? This over there? I got you?
Okay, all right? So thisis something new and I know that just
having big screens up for people towatch other games that is gonna be a
(14:26):
lot of fun. Well, yeah, people are there all afternoon, especially
those late games. People are justhanging out there all day, you know.
So they're wanting to see the actionsYou've seen the atmospherical And if they,
as game Day said, where they'regonna be not this weekend but next
weekend for Texas, I don't knowwhere they're gonna say. I would assume
they're going to be at Alamama becausewell, they're gonna be in Tessa Loos.
I think they are. You know, they're already announced they're gonna be
(14:48):
Tessa Loose, I do believe haveyou heard that? I think that makes
it even bigger than everything because theyset up on the Walk of Champions.
Yeah, usually, and that's that'swhere they will be. But anyway,
it's gonna be fun. Okay,So anyway, we will return to the
topic of Alabama football over and overagain. I'm sure before John McNeil exits
(15:09):
this evening and I exit with himnow, before we're going to really shift
gears. The two of you waslast week you were in New York there
at the New York Stock Exchange,New York City. It was bustling.
Let me tell you now, youdid not ring the closing bell, but
you were there closely to there. We were there right underneath the closing bell.
We were there for about an hourthere on the floor. Nobody rings
(15:31):
the bell. Uncle's whole it ringsitself. Okay, let you stand look,
stand right next to all right, that's right. Yeah. And it
was it was really really I mean, that was a very cool experience.
But we learned so much. Wewere in meetings with market analysts and we
were talking to market makers up there. That are the people. Those are
the people that are actually on thefloor. You know, you've seen the
(15:54):
older movies Uncle Henry back in theeighties and nineties and things that used to
be people were yelling at each otherand throw SIPs of paper and all that.
It's not quite like that anymore.It's a it's a lot more electronic.
You walk in, it's uh,there's still a lot of energy there,
but there's a lot of electronics therenow. So it was just really
neat. Were still people yelling andstuff. There a lot of yelling,
(16:15):
yeah, yeah, and there andand that was a big day we were
The day we were there, themarket itself was up one and a half
percent, and so that's a bigmovement there. Well, no, I
don't think it was because we werethere, but maybe maybe we brought a
good looks, but we were itwas it was really neat. We we
we were so blown away by allthe meetings that we had with a lot
(16:38):
of the you know, just lookingforward and looking to market trends and things
like that, and so it wasjust really neat. New York is just
a just a different as there's adifferent planet. It seems like sometimes this
is a serious question because I'm wantingto visit New York this year. Okay,
briefly, how safe did you whatwas the perception? Was there a
(17:02):
perception of safety, very safe wherewe were, say we stayed downtown,
we stayed in Tribeca. We saidit right there. We were about a
block away from the World Trades atone World Trade Center, you know,
right there by the right there wherewe stayed. I felt very safe.
Four seasons. Yeah, And wewere right there up down there. And
I walked one morning over to theto meet a friend of mine that I
(17:25):
went to college with. She livesup there, and I walked about six
blocks to meet her one morning bymyself felt very safe, very good.
We've got to take a time out. I have a few more questions about
that New York trip. More onAlabama football and other stuff as we continue
here on The Uncle Henry Show.John mcnealan, Virginia O'Brien are in as
guests. Well Henry, Uncle HenryShow, News Radio seven ten WNTIM,
(18:02):
John mcneilo, Virginia Braner. Here, we've been talking about Alabama football and
then going to the New York StockExchange. Telephone number two five one four
seven nine two seven two three isnumber if you want to call in.
Two five one four seven nine twoseven two three. I've got a series
of ignorant questions about the stock exchange. If you could educate me, we
(18:23):
will try. Now, you talkedabout how it was in the past,
what we've seen in movies of wildscreaming and yelling and stuff inside the New
York Stock Exchange. Is it similar? How similar is that to the commodities
Exchange? Well, if you thinkof the commodity that's in Chicago. Yeah,
are you talking about like the orangeconcentrated orange juice? What is that
coming to America? No, it'snot coming to America. It's trading places.
(18:48):
I don't remember that. Okay,Well that's the Yeah, that's the
Chicago, Chicago Commodities Exchange. Ye. Yes, well I'm thinking of people
yet, you know, selling porkbellies and stuff. They're they're not doing
that on the New York Stock exchYeah, but it's a lot of similar.
It's you're selling futures, yes,it's it's okay, So the technology
(19:10):
is very similar because the way thatit's and it's it's now have not personally
been to the commodity Yeah, butit's I'm going to assume that that floor
is going to be very much moreelectronics like everything is now, but much
more computer generated, the algorithms, all of that, and so the demand
on that end is driven the computersdo it instead of how it used to
(19:34):
be about doing doing going about paperand then now they're you know, doing
it with the computers. And sothere's not going to be as many people
I'm assuming, just like on theStock Exchange that are there physically on the
floor, but there's probably still someexcitement there, you know, the future
there and they're training future. Sothey're the you know commodities that's a lot
more speculus. That's a lot differentthan dealing on the stock exchange. So
(19:57):
we need to look at the future. If people, for me, was
trading places with Dan Ackroyd and EddieMurphy, Eddie Murphy, they're sitting there
buying and selling and buying and sellingand sell sell, sell, sell selling
anyway. They that was back duringthe paper days. Now the exchanges are
all electronic, so they still havetraders on the floor. We went with
(20:21):
our traders, but what they're sellingand buying is different. It is different
than the New York stocks and shapethey're buying and selling stocks in Chicago,
their their their commodities. Yeah, they're betting on what the price is going
to be basically in some future datso some port bellies or frozen concentrated orange
juice gold. So it's a lotdifferent. But what it really was one
(20:45):
of the interesting facts I think wetold you when you were offices on Tuesday
after the market closed for June andI were invited to go to the George
Washington speake Easy. The George WashingtonSpeakeasy, I'd never heard of that before.
It's a little bar nestled up.It's like on the third or fourth
floor cool. I mean's very historic. It's been there for a long time
(21:07):
and that's where people used to youknow, we talked about how many how
many deals were probably secured over aglass of spirits in that bar. And
there's a mural on the wall, fig mural of the original starting of the
Stock Exchange in seventeen ninety two,May sixth, seventeen ninety two. Yeah,
where they on the old buckwood theBuckwood tree. I think it's Buckwood
(21:32):
tree, which was right there. If the Buckwood tree is not there,
obviously, but it was a reallycool play. There's a bat so to
give y'all some comfort, there's usbar at the Stock Exchange. Yeah,
okay, were wondering that gives uscomfort? Yeah, Well, we often
wonder why decisions are made, andnow you go, Now we have a
(21:52):
little more insight into how things goon up there. Now, speaking of
of a gigantic finance, one ofthe big financial stories that's that has been
reported throughout the day is a dollarGeneral and they're they're they're predicting that they're
gonna I know, you've just takena look at the story that they're gonna
be damn possibly a third or somethinglike that. How big a deal is
(22:15):
that? Well, today itself aswe speak that it's the DGUS this talk
ticker symbol. It tumbled fourteen percenttoday. When we look at things like
a Dollar General, for instance, and you look at what that is,
you know, that is a discountretailer, and it's a lot of the
speculation here is a lot of itbecause of the the the earnings for that
(22:40):
are. Sorry, the reason that'ssuch a big deal is that that is
a that is a market indicator,a leading indicator. That's a discount store,
discount retail store. So people aren'tspending, People aren't buying from that
discount store as much because they're scaredand they're afraid, you know, they're
being trying to be conservative. Sothat's you know, going to be one
of those things. That's a lotof people look at that as a leading
(23:02):
indicator. So something to look at, you know, well, is are
we hearing similar stories from other retailers. Yeah, there of people slowing up
their spending. Yeah, Dollar Treeanother one that's their direct competitor, Dollar
Tree, Walmart, TJ, youknow, TJ Max and and all of
those. You look at those andthose earnings reports should be better than what
(23:27):
they are. Now you look atthat, and their their their reports for
that should be better than what we'reseeing, and their sales and their retail
and all of that is down forwhat it should be. Now going into
fourth quarter, that might pick up. Usually does retail. Usually their surge
is fourth quarter because of all theholidays and all of that spending. So
(23:48):
we'll see what that looks like. But it is a very important thing to
look at that that is the discountretailers. And that's one of the first
things because that's the Middle America, and you know, people depend on things
like Dollar General and Dollar Tree. They do all their stuff there, and
especially in rural America. Oh yeah, that's all you see in some in
(24:08):
some places, and if you walkinto a Dollar General here in Mobile,
they've got things locked up like yousee in Los Angeles and all these places
because of the theft, the theftof it's not as bad here in Mobile
because we will catch and prosecute, but in other places where they're very big,
(24:29):
they they just aren't. People cancome in and take whatever they want
and unless it's over twelve hundred dollars, they don't even wrest them. They
just let them walk out. It'scrazy. Yeah, this is well.
There was a story a week ortwo ago about Dollar Tree of all places,
wanting to put more merchandise under lockand key, yeah, or just
(24:52):
stop carrying it. And I thought, you know, think about that because
the price points it's all all underfive bucks, because they do some stuff
now more than a dollar. Butyeah, the fact that you would have
to lock up stuff that's under fivebucks now a story for any local media
that is in the reporting industry, they would like to do a story.
You should go and talk to someof the big boxers if they'll tell you
(25:17):
about there their local shrinkage, theirlocal theft. Because I had a chance
last week to talk to some peoplethat are higher up in a very big,
big box retailer. I don't wantto say the name because I don't
want to get anybody in a veryinfluential aren't you. Well, then the
amount of money this was all inBalwin County. They were telling me how
(25:40):
much money they were losing in theftper store county. Oh yeah, it's
crazy. On one of these bigbox retailers. It was something like up
to two and a half million byat this point a year. Yeah,
yeah, people walking out the doorwith it. And so what's happening in
these other cities that are not quiteas conservative? I guess where they were.
(26:03):
They don't prosecute. Where they don'tprosecute. You're looking at their they're
having more theft than they are sales. And that's why you're seeing these stores
shut down Virginia. Even you andI in New York, they were shutting
down stores, big block name retailers, big name retailers from shutting They can't
they can't handle it. It isuh. And they looked at some positive
(26:27):
things out there, took Henry,Look, look, look, I just
wanted to ask you about some stuffthat was I was curious about. We'll
be as upbeat as we can be. We're gonna hey, let me get
back to this road. Look,Henry, how about that? Is that
better? That's much better? Now? I have goose bumps again. All
right, we were about to gointo break in one minute. People on
(26:48):
Facebook watching the show wanted to know, Uh, is the kicking still gonna
be good this year for Alabama?I think we're gonna have one of our
best kicking, both Bunny and Uhand feel kickers that we've had in a
while. That's good news. I'mnot gonna want any more detail on that.
Those always make me know. Thekickers, I feel the most for
them, but they are poor things. The weight of the game is a
(27:11):
lot of times on their hands. And Nick Nick Saban has never really recruited
you know, his early years inthe seventeen years, it's for fifteen years
he never recruited kickers. Now wehave kickers. Well, think about all
those games lost on you. Youre of that, you remind him of
that. I'll watch back with more. John and Virginia are here on the
(27:36):
Uncle Henry Show, Uncle Emry ShowNews Radio seven ten WN. Tim John
m'neil is here with me. He'sgonna stick around until seven o'clock. We're
(27:56):
gonna have a lot. We're gonnahave a big discussion about Mobile BaFin ancial
solutions and financial planning at six thirty. Until then, we're gonna talk about
football and life in the United Statesof America and Mobile, Alabama and the
Gulf Coast two five, one fourseven nine two seven two three. Virginia
O'Brien had to slip out. Virginia, thank you for being in on the
(28:18):
Uncle Henry show and Johnny, andyet we have a caller, Hello,
caller, Hell, Uncle Henry. It's just it's just spunky Bama big Man,
Fucky Obama big Man. Well Ijust kind of like Bama big Man.
But you know, but uh,you don't have a choice. Hello
to Virginia. But she's gone.I'm gonna say hello to Virginia. Hello,
(28:40):
John how y'all doing doing great?Bama big Man. She's she's listening
on her way on her way home. She has a you know, it's
almost six o'clock and she's got afour and five year old at home.
Oh so she uh, she couldn'tstay this late. Okay, all right,
well I was, I was.I posted it about Uncle Henry maybe
(29:00):
attending a game with you this season. Yes, and if if something was
to you know, some severe mishaps, what's to happen to Uncle Henry.
I would like to take his place. Uncle Henry, you better get you
better get a food taster or somebodybodyguard. I'm sure that his mamma would
(29:25):
give me her blessing and let metake his place. Well, you know,
his mama, if if, if, if Uncle Henry can't go to
the game, that he has toldme he's gonna uh the tickets he's requested.
Then Uh, the next choice wouldbe to go to his mama,
who is a regular size, verypetite, not something that people call in
(29:48):

well, I'm I'm ex fired aboutthis season. Uh John I I uh,
I think uh Saban has him allguessing right now. He has he
has that smoke screen up as andI think he should you know, and
(30:33):
I think, uh, Tommy reasonthe offensive coordinator, I think he's doing
for all the all the information Ihave from Tusca Loosa is he's doing a
good job. The boys like him, and uh he's I think saving and
he are putting their heads together andthey're right now they're keeping us a whole
guessing. But uh, Sir JohnMcNeil and Bamma big Man, tell me
(30:57):
if I'm right or wrong on this. But I know that Nick Saban can't
stand media hype. He calls itrat poison. Yeah, even though Alabama
is ranked number four, which islow at the beginning of the season during
the Saban era, He's got tolike that. He loves Nick Saban must
love the fact that he's ranked numberfour and that he's not putting out the
(31:18):
depth chart. He's gotta love it. He love's gotta love it. And
and Kirk herve Street came out whetheryou love him or like him? Uh?
Love him? Love him or haiti? Uh? He says Alabama's gonna
win national championship this year. Haveyou seen that? It came out yesterday?
Okay? And he gave his reasoning. And I agree with everything he's
saying. And I'm very, verybad man. I thank you are too.
(31:42):
Going regular season against Georgia starting nextyear. WHOA, That's gonna be
good, isn't it? Yeah?So what I can't wait? Are you?
Okay? I thought we thought youhad you almost fell out on us,
y'all rank No, I'm just I'mpondering. Okay, you got goose
bumps on. And yeah, aftereverything's said and done, by twenty thirty
(32:06):
five, when Subsecurity runs out ofmoney, there will only be one.
It'll be the SEC because everybody wantsto be in the SEC. I mean,
all these other all these other conferencesare falling apart, and everybody's gonna
be in the SEC. Yeah.Absolutely, I don't know what to think
about all that. John, It'sit's really wacky right now. It is
wacky. Is wacky? This wholecountry is whacked out. Yeah, with
(32:30):
these with these super conferences, whatdo they even need the NCAA four at
this point? Right, I'm seriousabout that. I mean it couldn't the
South Eastern Conference do all that?Yeah, Fred Schools, Yeah, my
plan might be the plan. We'llsee. Beat Babe man is good to
(32:50):
hear from you. Good good talky'all. Roll tide, roll all right,
thank you there you go, givegift, Virginia O'Brien, roll tide.
But Danya well padrow right man,big man, thank you, all
right, thank you very much foryour phone call. He was he was,
he was kind of spunky there.Hey, we've got another caller calling
(33:10):
in, other caller calling in.We've only got less than a minute.
Do you want to call back afterthe top of the hour. I can
say it right now, Okay.I was just wondering they Alabama's gonna have
to have a better center. Weneed to, We need someone so big
it looks like two people standing there. And that being said, do you
think your mama would want to playcenter? Father? Out of this ship?
(33:34):
Freak? How dare you? Howdare you look? John McNeil's in
the room. John McNeil, youjust said moments ago, she's normal sized.
She is. She's a very petite, very southern woman that you would
picture as your grandmother. She wouldnot be a good center, No,
she wouldn't. She's normal. Shewould be a good she'd be a good
(33:57):
ciner, but she would not standup on this line. I tay you,
what a look, she's normal sizedfor her height and age. Back
after the break. What is happeninghere? I can't take it anymore?
(34:30):
This is invanity. Yes, itis the Uncle Henry Show on News Radio
seven ten wnt M. Coming upin about thirty minutes, John McNeil is
going to talk about Mobile Bay FinancialSolutions. We're gonna talk about financial planning,
before then, John McNeil is herewith me to talk about Alabama football
(34:53):
or anything anything. John McNeil isa wealth of knowledge about mobile and O
bill history. Two five one fourseven nine two seven two three. That's
two five one four seven nine twoseven two three. Email address Uncle Henry,
and iHeartMedia dot com. Jommy neil, you love you love football season.
(35:15):
I know you love going to thegames. I've told you before and
I've said it on the air thatI've never seen anybody enjoy themselves at a
football game more than I can see. I mean, you look like you
have more fun than everybody else inthe stadium. Well, you know,
and you've been there with me andmy wife. Yes, yes, and
uh Martha is the fanatic. Shejust really gets into it. Oh,
(35:37):
we watched the Walk of Champions fromacross the street and then we go into
the stadium as soon as the boysget off the bus and we go in.
We want to see all the videos. We want to see the people
coming into the stadium, and everybodyknows where I sit, and you know,
we all you know, talk andeverything else. It's great. But
you know, one thing I wantto talk about football is if you've seen
(36:00):
the South Alabama helmets for this upcominggame. I have not. They have
on the back they've played against Ithink two Lane, and they have across
the back of their helmet home theoriginal home of Marty Grass. Yah,
throw it in their face, youknow, indeed that uh it's good.
So anyway, it's uh it is. I really enjoy the football. I
(36:23):
get really hyped up. I getI get goose bumps when they play the
video before the game and when theband walks out, and you know,
it's just it's just something about theatmosphere. And then of course for a
night game, the whole stadium turnsred with the new lighting system we have.
You know, they dug up theentire field this year the field would
(36:45):
be playing on. It is atotally new field. They dug it up
and uh planted all new grass orbrought in all new grass. So we
got new side on the field andit's uh, it looks absolutely amazing.
Well, knowing that you love football, I wanted to do another reading from
your father's memoir. Charles E.McNeill. John McNeill's father, wrote his
(37:12):
life story. The name of thebook is Bountiful. The Memoirs of Charles
E. McNeill. This book, you can look it up online and read
the whole thing online. Yeah, the whole thing is available online. And
I thought it would be fun toread a few passages from your father's book
about football. Used to do youused to read these things? Well,
(37:32):
we've had a lot of readings throughthe years from Bountiful on the show.
Here are a few entries about football. First, I'm going to read to
just a little bit about him playingfootball in high school. He was a
Frisco City whipp It. Here iswhat Charles McNeill wrote in his book Bountiful.
He wrote, my older brothers playedfootball in high school. I did
(37:53):
too. I played guard on offenseand tackle on defense. But I was
not first by any means. Iweighed only one hundred and twenty six pounds.
But our team was excellent. Theywere called the Frisco City Whippets and
still are to this day. Thecoach at that time was Coach Fisher.
A number of his varsity players receivedfootball scholarships. I don't recall cheerleaders.
(38:16):
We didn't have stands at the fieldfor games. Fans and parents lined up
on opposite sides. Of the fieldwith their teams and followed the play up
and down the sidelines. We'd takeschool buses to out of town games.
We played Jackson, Alabama, whichwas a long trip, and Excel.
(38:36):
We played Uriah once in a while, while we played at Moore, which
was also a long way. Itwas twenty five miles. I suppose Monroeville
was our main rival. They werethe big town compared to ours. I
think the record between our teams waspretty even. Now he went on to
talk about going to Marion Military Institute, and he wrote, I went out
(38:59):
for football during my first semester. My mother and father came up for the
homecoming festivities, which included a biggame I think with Livingston State. Now,
I hadn't told them that I wasplaying football. I don't remember how
I'd got around telling them. Earlierin the day, they'd seen me pass
in review with the Corps of Cadetsin a big ceremony on the drill field.
(39:22):
There were other homecoming related events besidesthe football game. I forgot why
it was they attended the game withoutexpecting me to sit with them. Maybe
it was because of all the cadetswere supposed to be sitting together in the
separate stands. Anyway, I gotknocked out in the first quarter of the
football game. I tried to tacklethis big old boy who put a knee
(39:43):
into my head. In those days, we wore leather helmets that weren't really
much protection. This boy stunned meon the tackle. I had to be
carted off the field. Well,Mama and Daddy were studying the situation,
and Mama kept looking and said,I believe that's Charlie. They just carried
off. That's how they learned Iwas playing football. We had a little
(40:09):
conversation after the game. I wastold that I wasn't Marion to study,
not to play football, and thatwas the end of my football career.
So parenting back in the nineteen thirties, yeah, late thirties. So he
goes. They don't know he's playedfootball, and they find out he's playing
(40:31):
by seeing him get knocked out. They saw him get knocked out in the
first quarter of the game. Onemore thing about football from his u from
his memoir, this is something Idid not realize about college life because I
did not go to the University ofAlabama, especially in the in the thirties
(40:51):
of the forties, he wrote aboutmeeting Evelyn my mother. Yes, he
wrote, one of the things thatthe fraternity did was arranged dates for new
members. There were always social eventssurrounding the football games. Often you'd have
two dates arranged back to back, one for the game in one after the
(41:15):
game. It was on one ofthose football weekend dates, the first week
of my semester, that I metEvelyn Bell from Mobile. She was a
kd a member of the Kappa DeltaSorority. Evelyn was a sophomore. She'd
spent her freshman year at Randolph Maconin Virginia. I don't remember much about
that football game, who was playing, what the score was, but I
(41:36):
remember enjoying her company. I alsoremember being a little disappointed when we had
to leave the game early because shehad another date and I did too.
Now, John Vinil was now bythe time you ended up at Alabama,
did you have two dates in thesame ninth Was it the same way when
you were there, where you'd havea date for the game that a date
(41:57):
with somebody else after the game.I'll have to tell you this, uncle,
hear about my my family life.My wife Martha and I started dating.
She was fifteen. I was sixteen. We dated all through high school.
We dated. I went to Alabama, Alabama before she did, and
she came up the next year.We dated all through college and we never
(42:19):
dated anybody else. All you know, we never had dates with anybody else.
But I will say with my motherand father, they dated through college.
When they met and they were atthe uh Tusklusa Theater downtown still there
and uh they they were there. They turned off the movie the day that
(42:45):
Pearl Harbor was bombed, Yes,and they had to leave and Daddy went
and registered up for the army thatday. Yes. I was just reading
that today and as memoirs. Yeah, dramatic scene there where they're they're in
a watching a movie and they stoppedthe movie and then come out in ounce
Pearl Harbor in the theater. Heyback with Moore with John McNeil in a
moment on the Uncle Henry Show onNews Radio seven ten WNTM Uncle Henry Show,
(43:20):
News Radio seven ten wnt M.John McNeil is here of Mobile Bay
Financial Solutions coming up in about tenminutes after the news headlines, We're going
to talk about Mobile Bay Financial Solutions. Before we get there, we still
have time if you'd like to slipa call in two five one four seven
nine two seven two three. That'stwo five one four seven nine two seven
(43:44):
two three, John McNeil. Overthe past few years, we've seen lots
of this fake meat. I don'tknow if you've had any of these fake
meat panties where they have a plantbased burger, all that kind of stuff.
Why, well, every time Italk about it, I tell the
list they create having turkey bacon,Well, well, they didn't invent it
(44:05):
because it's good for your health. They feel like that livestock hurts the environment,
leads to climate change, and sothey want to have a more sustainable
food for us to eat, andso they're creating fake meat so that they
won't have to be cattle farms andstuff like that. So we have fake
burgers. The reversion I'm bringing thisup is just like fake meat. There's
(44:28):
a company in London that is workingon synthetic alcohol. They claim they've already
got a name for the product,al Correl, and they say that this
product will have the same effects asdrinking alcohol, but they think they can
remove all of the negative health effects. They're going to remove the hangover and
(44:52):
all of that, and it wouldbe it would just it'd be a drink
that would make you relaxed and chattyand all that, but it would not
give you a hangover. They saythat they believe they can target specific parts
of the brain with this, andthey hope to launch it by twenty twenty
six. No, I mean why, I mean, if you enjoy to
(45:15):
have a little lipaition in the afternoonthe evening, Oh God made the wine
and drinks to have effects on us, and if there's an after effect,
like the hangover, it discourages you, discourages you from over indulging. Okay,
(45:37):
that's my theory. Well, see, I was having the same thought
because I thought, if you removeif you remove that aspect of it,
if you leave the drunk, butyou remove the consequences, right then half
the world is going to be drunkall the time. Right. It's like
removing the police from our cities. And now we have all this rampant theft
(46:00):
going on and all that kind ofstuff. No, just don't don't don't
be don't be messing with the thingsthat we enjoy in life. Well can
you imagine how regulated that product willbe if because I mean, you're invented
something that can have the effects ofalcohol but not get people drunk. I
(46:22):
mean, every government agency that existsin Great Britain is going to go after
it. And anywhere else you tryto sell it exactly, they're gonna go
after it. I mean they triedto, you know, back in the
seventies when I was in college, not me, but friends of mine,
right, Okay, I just heartell from this they would get they would
get drunk, and they would eatcharcoal pills to absorb the alcohol when they
(46:45):
went to bed, so they wokeup and didn't have a u You could
buy it over the counter charcoal pillsand you wouldn't have a hangover because it
did that work. I've never heardof that, don't know. I'm not
talking from the experience, talking aboutends of mine here, tell that this
is what happened. But okay, anyway, Uh, I'm not sure about
(47:06):
that. This fake meat stuff,it's like getting that fake crab meat.
Have you seen this that? No? I have not try Oh my goodness.
I mean, you know, wemake my wife makes an absolutely gorgeous
crab cake, but we use realcrab, right, not this stuff coming
in from China that looks like crab. No that that doesn't that doesn't work.
Don't don't be buying that stuff.Well, I was telling I was.
(47:29):
I mentioned earlier this week on theUncle Henry Show that there is one
of these fake meat companies is comingout with fake there their plant based ribs,
and they're going to they're going tohave the bone is going to be
a soy based bone that you canafter you eat the rib the way you
(47:50):
would eat a real rib. Youcould save the soy based bones and bake
them or fry them and eat thebone. Well, don't I'm want to
dreamland tonight. Okay, I meanjust or meat balls or you know,
somewhere. I'm going somewhere to getreal ribs. Yes, don't be doing
that. Don't even give me asoy based rib bone. You know.
(48:13):
Well, it's better than them tryingto get us to eat bugs. Better
than them trying to get us toeat bug. And there's nothing wrong with
fried cricket every now and again.Okay, fried cricket, we're snake trapper.
Well, I'm sure you know what. I've never asked him if he
has bug recipes, we'll have toask him what bugs he's eating in a
future episode and if he has anytype of bug recipes for us. Also,
(48:36):
before we're out of time. Ithought this lawsuit was kind of ridiculous,
but a judge is gonna let itmove forward. There are people it's
going to be a class action wherepeople are suing Burger King because they claim
that in their promotional materials, theirads and stuff, that the whopper looks
bigger than it is in real life, and they're suing over it that they
(49:00):
should not show a whopper that looksbigger than the real whopper that you get
in the burger game. And ajudge Burger King defend themselves and say,
people know that that advertising pictures aresupposed to look as beautiful as they can
possibly look, and nobody really expectsit to look like it does in the
(49:21):
picture. But the judge, thejudge in the case says, go ahead,
let's let's go to trial with this. This is ridiculous. And it's
like mister Whipple, who do theSharmany those Sharman roles were not as big
as what he was squeezing. I'mtelling you they are now they are now.
Unfortunately, how you go into alot of these big box stores.
You cannot buy an old fashioned sizeroll of toilet paper. All the roles
(49:45):
of toilet paper, and the bigbox stores are mega rolls. They almost
don't roll off the roll, that'sright, they're gigantic. All right,
Hey, we're at a time forthe Uncle Henry Show. Keep listening.
Do you want to hear John McNeil. We're gonna talk about Mobile Bay financial
solutions, talk about some financial planningthat's coming up after the news break here
(50:07):
on WNTM. Jimmy Neil, thankyou for being in. Thank you,
Uncle Henry. Road, Road
