(00:51):
great story about the company, and you can see that
on their website, and we thank them for sponsoring this
hour of At Home with Gary Sullivan. All right, talking
home improvement as we do each and every weekend. Just
a reminder, we do this show from nine am till
noon Eastern time every Saturday and Sunday, and that's when
we can converse about maybe some issues you might be
(01:12):
having around your home and hopefully get some advice and
help you get those fixed. All right, let's go to Pat. Pat. Welcome.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, I'm good, Yes, great, shoul. I just wanted to
say my water conditioner keeps freezing up at the bottom,
you know, getting that ice ice block or ice dam
at the bottom there, and it's only eight years old
and I just redid it, took everything out, cleaned it
(01:44):
and we put this offt back into everything, and it
seems like a couple months later it's doing the same thing.
I'm not sure you got a solution for that or not.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Well maybe not. But let me ask you. So when
you say you take it all, you took it all
out and you put it back in, what what did
you take out? The salt?
Speaker 3 (02:05):
Yes? Okay?
Speaker 1 (02:08):
And I think what might be the issue? You say
it's eight years old, correct.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Yeah, I'm guessing humidity, But well it.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Might be the the media uh that's on in the
water softener itself that needs to be replaced. I'm going
to say every five to eight years. And you know
what you might do is if you got the brand
name of that uh water softener, get online to their
(02:40):
website and just read about the maintenance, uh the long
term maintenance. But I believe that needs to be replaced periodically.
In fact, I got a cull again, and mine's probably
about that same point. I haven't had the the ice
dam or the salt damming and side the container yet,
(03:01):
but I think I've got it on my list to
you know, check to make sure if that media doesn't
need to be replaced.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Oh is that difficult to do?
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Or I've never done it, to be honest with you,
and they're probably all different and all different brands, and
I don't even know if you can buy that partect.
I'm sure you can, I just don't know where that's
That's where I would start my research, though, is get
on the company's website, because there's all different qualities of
(03:32):
you know, water softeners out there. There's there's quite honestly,
some of them that have a lifespan of seven eight
years and there are a thousand bucks, and there's other
ones that you know are two to three thousand dollars
and they have a lifespan of twenty five years.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
So I think on your first choice there, yeah, got
a cheap.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Yeah, so that you know when you got when you
have that, it might be just easier just to replace
the entire year unit.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
Yeah, well that's just thought.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Well, thanks thanks for advice and help.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
All right, very good, Thank you much appreciate it, and
let's go to uh Dave, Dave welcome.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Hey, thanks for taking my call. I've got what I
think should be a pretty simple project, but I've run
into something that I don't know how to handle. I
want to replace my sink in my kitchen sink, and
instead of the sink being clamped down to the countertop,
it's glued all the way around. And I want to
(04:36):
I want to take it out without ruining the countertop,
but I'm not sure how, and I'm afraid I don't
want to replace the entire countertop if I don't have to.
And I wonder if well, yeah, yes, it is with
like a super hard like fiber board underneath it.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Do you know if it's the adhesive? Is it like
a construction adhesive or is it like a silicone?
Speaker 3 (05:03):
I don't know, but I'm guessing it's probably more like
a silicone because it's we probably put in by the
previous owner from what I could tell, But I don't
know for sure.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
So is it pliable? Can you tell? So? Usually when
you install a sink, you will run a bead of
either a plumber's putty or a silicone around the edges
of the sink. But if it's right on, you know
where the you got the clamps off and everything.
Speaker 5 (05:35):
There are no clams, it's just a direct right exactly.
I know there was a product that might help dissolve
that or something that might No.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
You almost have to cut it. There is if it's silicone,
there is a they'll call it silicone remover, but it's
not going to remove it. It'll soften it and make
it more pliable. And again, I don't know if you
can get. One way to cut adhesives is with like
a piece of piano wire, but I don't know if
(06:11):
you've got access to the other side where you can
put a piano wire, you know, on both sides that
can kind of work it as a saw and you
will that's the easiest way to cut it, But I
don't know if you've got the ability to do that
under there.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Well, I'm that sounds like it might be possible. I
actually maybe a guitar stream would work. Like I don't
have any piano.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Wire, but yeah, no, because I don't have any type
of wire. Yeah. Another thing is just taking a axe
all blade Okay, those are pretty thin ten twelve inches
where you could take it and literally just kind of
work it up in there and literally saw through that.
That might be an option for you too.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Yeah, that actually sounds like, yeah, that's Those are a
couple of things that I feel like I can try
on my own.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
So very good.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
Okay, I was you know I was, I shouldn't. As
far as anything to dissolve what's underneath there, well, most
of that just scrape up with a with a good putty.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Knife, yeah yeah, or even like a razor knife, you know,
like a okay, you know the single razor blade edge,
It'll cut that up real good. Where we're get in
troubles when somebody's not using a silicon they use a
construction adhesive, and that can get really hard, and that's
tougher to get through. I mean, you can still get
(07:33):
it off, but it's tougher to get through.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
So well, i'd be able to like say, say I
took say I took the guitar string and did that.
Would I be able to tell, like I would know
if if it was construction, I'd be getting some construction
like adhesive. Would I be getting some kind of resistance
there and be able to tell that I'm having a
problem yeah or yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Yeah. Probably the easiest thing is is noticing whether you're
making because it's pliable, silicon's going to be a little
pliable construction. He's like a rock.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Okay, all right, all right, all right, that's very helpful.
I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
Very good. Thank you much. I'll take care all right,
and of course we're talking home improvement on your weekend.
You're more than welcome to join us and dollas up.
Danny Boy will take your call, and we've got Debbie.
Debbie welcome, Hey Debbie, I'm Donna. Donna, okay, far away Donna.
Speaker 6 (08:37):
All right. I wasn't sure if that was me.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (08:41):
So I have two basement windows and their vinyl windows sliders,
and I think I maybe was opening them one or
two times a year, just a few times a year,
and they're frozen shuts. I don't know what to do,
whether they're salvagible.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Or well, they should be salvageable. The nice thing on
a sliders is there's usually a vinyl track or a
steel track or aluminum track, and it has vinyl glides
on it, so you know there's you know, if it's
a double hung that can be a different issue. I
(09:24):
is there any movement at all on that?
Speaker 7 (09:27):
Not at all?
Speaker 6 (09:28):
Nothing. And they're the sideways, you know, just like the
horizontal Yeah, the traditional slit right, right, what do you
call those?
Speaker 1 (09:39):
It's a horizontal slider, that's that's exactly what it is.
And there's no locks on there is.
Speaker 6 (09:47):
There, Yeah, there are, but I don't think I used them.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Okay, so they're un I just want to make sure
they're unlocked. I know that sounds real simple, but let's
make sure they're unlocked. I we all know what would
be causing that, to be honest with you, and you know,
the easy thing to say is you know they're jammed
because they're dirty and the glides can't slide in that track.
And there's certainly products like a silicon or a teflon
(10:14):
can help lubricate that and help clean that. Is both panels?
Are they both ventilators? In other words? Are they both
supposed to be able to be moved?
Speaker 6 (10:30):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (10:31):
One is just the one?
Speaker 6 (10:34):
Yeah, it's just a regular I don't know, one and
a half by four foot you know, sie the window.
If I were going to replace them, how what would
I replace them with? That's the best window for that.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
In terms of best in terms of security or energy
efficiency or.
Speaker 6 (10:59):
What just ease of use and the most functional. Well,
we used to have the ones that were wooden and
you just pull it out and hook it to the
ceiling above, you know, and.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Do you open your windows down there? Much?
Speaker 6 (11:20):
Not? Not at all it's not a living space, it's cold.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
Yeah, well if it's if it's not really going to
be used, I think the one thing I would do
is take a look at glass block. Glass block is
very very secure, and that's what a lot of people
are looking for. And they do have a small ventilation
screen in the middle of it if you need to
(11:43):
ventilate and open it up. But from a security and uh,
from the way you're using that, I would say that
would be an option for you. Alrighty, thank you much
for the call. I appreciate We'll take a quick break. Martin,
you'll be up first. You're at home with Garry Solid.

(14:46):
we go at Home with Gary Sullivan. So is painting
your home on your docket this year? Have you heard
of a product called Rhinoshield, Well, we're going to learn
about that at the bottom the hour. It's a coating,
has some great benefits and it has a warranty of
twenty five years. So we're going to learn a little
(15:08):
bit about that product. That might be an option for
you if you're looking at having your home painted and
you just don't want to have it done again. That
certainly can be an option. All right, let's go to Martin. Martin, Welcome,
big morning, Gary.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
A bunch of quick questions, hopefully, how do I get
rid of pink mold in the bathtub?
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Well? Where do you have it? Down? By the products?
Speaker 3 (15:35):
And it keeps coming back?
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Yeah, well it's going to keep coming back. So it's
going to keep coming back because we got organic material
in our homes, and we got water around the tub,
and we got mold sports in every place in the universe.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
So you know, how come it doesn't happen in my
other bathroom?
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Well? Maybe is it used as much as this bathroom? Yep?
The ventilation fan used all the time for twenty minutes
after the showers and everything.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
This is an older house. It doesn't have a ventilation fan.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
All right, Well let's put it this way. You got it,
so let's work on that, all right. So there are
products that will kill it, and there are products that
will completely kill it, and there are products that'll have
a residual which will minimize its growth. So one of
the products I talk about, and they're a sponsor and
(16:32):
have been for years, is a product called Wet and
Forget and Wet and Forget Martin has a product called
Wet and Forgets shower or Wet and Forget Bath strictly
for bath and showers. We use it at our house
and you use it once a week and you spray
(16:52):
it down, and we do ours on Sunday night, So
you spray it down when you get up Monday morning,
you take make a shower, you rinse that area off
and you don't and and it'll be gone and you'll
reapply it next Sunday night. Okay, And that's probably the
(17:12):
best way if it's a control issue. Now, when you
say it's older, you got a couple of things going on.
Not having that fan certainly killing you.
Speaker 6 (17:21):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
You got to get that humidity level out of that bathroom.
And a lot of times people just turn to fan
on when they take the shower. It should run almost
twenty minutes afterwards too. Even dry in the area down
would help it significantly. One thing to concern yourself about.
I'm assuming it's got a ceramic tile on the walls. Yes,
(17:46):
sometimes especially I don't know how old that tile is.
But what happens is the grout will get little microfractures
in it and water will actually the problem will be
behind that tile. So when it gets behind that toilet,
whit's the toilet, whit's the ground. It works its way
down to the bottom. It can pull and it can
(18:08):
grow literally through calking, even if it's a microband cough calcking.
That resistant mildew growth. So what I would do to
uh start to process, Martin, if that's the direction you
want to go, I'd use the wet and forget shower.
I'd use it. Yeah, you put it. You can put
(18:30):
it wherever the problem is. You know, if you got
hard soap scumb, it'll take care of that. If you
got mold, it'll take care of that. Mildew it'll take
care of that. Just wet the area down and let
it sit till the next morning and then rinse it off.
And I would do that. It may take depending on
(18:52):
how bad it is. It may take a week or
two or three to get it under control. And then
it's simply you'll just be wet, knit down and it's
it will just prohibit the growth of that. So that's
that's where i'd start the process. Before I'd also examine
that wall too and just check and see if there's
(19:14):
any microfractures or anything like that. All right, Martin, Thank
you much for the call. I appreciate coming up. I
told you we would talk a little bit about a
product called Rhino Shield. If you're thinking about getting that
house painted this year, this is a good option for
you and we'll chat with them and when we come back.

was mentioning before, if this is the year that you're
thinking about maybe painting your home, or maybe you find
yourself painting your home every five or six years, you
might think about alternatives, and I certainly have and you
may have heard me mentioned or people call and ask
(22:51):
about a product called Rhinoshield. Well, we happen to have
Gerald Hall on today. He is with Rhinoshield. We'll learn
a little bit about this wonderful product and Gerald. Welcome
at Home with Gary Sullivan.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
Hey, good morning, Gary, how are you doing this Saturday?
Speaker 1 (23:09):
I'm doing great I'm doing great. Why don't you tell
everybody first what rhinos Shield is. That's a good way
to start.
Speaker 4 (23:16):
Absolutely, thanks for having me. Well. Rhinoshield's been around for
a little more than two decades, and as you said, Gary,
a lot of your listeners are probably may have heard
about it, but a lot of them probably haven't. And
rhino Shield is not paint. It's a ceramic elast americ
coding system for the outside of your home, homework business,
quite quite honestly, and quite honestly, it's it's just a
(23:38):
coating that's made up of better ingredients. So it's made
with ceramic microspheres from three m and it goes on
about eight to ten times thicker than paint. And we
back it with a twenty five year warranty. That's the
biggest differentiator is it's got a twenty five year transferable warranty,
so if you're sell your home in ten or fifteen years,
the warranty goes with it. So it's just it's a
ceramic coding system. We've been putting on Homeshirt, like said,
(23:59):
more than two decades, and it seems like everybody's getting
into ceramics now. But we've been doing it for a
long time.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
Sure, So I guess one of the questions I was
going to ask is what's the difference between this and paint?
And I think you answered that they're really not comparatible.
The only thing they have in common is they coat
the substrates of your home. Fair enough.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
Yeah, that's that's a very fair question. You know, we've
been I remember, you know, thirty some years ago when
I bought my first house, about every two or three years,
i'd be painting the outside of it, the trim because
we've had an older wood home, and you know, paint
would cover it. But then again it goes away, and
you know, paint most paints are you know, big box
paints are sixty percent more water and their business model
(24:40):
in the big paint world is planned obsolescens. They want
you buying that, they need you buying their product every
five to seven years. So at Rhino Shield, we can't
compete with that. There's too many big corporations. So we've said,
let's make a product that is is different, that will
last for twenty five years and in the painting cycling.
So that's what we've been doing since just around nineteen
(25:01):
ninety nine.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
So you gave two good buzzwords. You said ceramic, and
so there's got to be some insulation value there as
it reflects heat, if my understanding on ceramic coatings is correct.
And the other word you used was a last America.
And we started off today's show talking about indoor uh
(25:25):
nail pops through drywall and moldings pulling away from the
drywall our homes drawing out A last Americ means it's flexible,
so it stays on the surface longer.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
Correct. Correct. So two things, you know, the ceramics in it,
they do have an insulating property. Our product dries eight
to ten times thicker than your average paint. So we've
had third party testing. Our product puts in our value
equivalent on the outside of your home of six point
eight nine. So it's gonna keep it warmer in the
(25:57):
cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. And
then in the elastomeric part of it, there are two
real components. That one that has to breathe. Your coating
has to let the moisture that you know, the stove
steam and the shower steam and all that stuff. It's
got to get outside of your house otherwise you get
mold and issues and things like that. So our product
is fully permeable, goes on thirteen point one six to
sixteen on the ASTM test, which anything over at ten
(26:19):
is fully permeable. And the other thing, it's gotta be
able to stretch and move. I was in Cincinnati this week,
and I travel all over the country. We have dealers
all over the United States, and it gets really cold
there and it gets really hot in the summer, and
so your coating needs to stretch and breathe with it.
And uh, that's why that's one of the biggest Uh.
One of the biggest points about rhinoshield is our elongation
(26:42):
is how it's measured and tested, and we have four
hundred percent elongation and stretch rate.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Wow, that's strong. That's strong. So tell me about surfaces
that you pain. Obviously, would it goes on wood surfaces?
I mean, could it go on brick, could it go
on side on metal? Yep?
Speaker 4 (27:03):
Yeah, you hit all of those. So our you know, stucco, brick, metal,
you cement block, hardy board. My house is brick. We
painted it. So yeah, really, there's not a surface other
than log homes. We don't do log homes, there's just
too much oil and creasoda and those you can coat them,
we just can't warranty them. Nothing's going to really stick
to that, right. But other than that, there's really not
(27:25):
many surfaces I can think of that we can't coat.
And so you know, when you put our aps are
we have a couple of different primers depending on the substrate,
for wood and for vinyl and for metal, and but
we coat just about everything under the sun.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
You talked about a twenty five year warranty that is transferable.
What's that cover? What is that warranty?
Speaker 4 (27:48):
Yeah, so that that warranty covers cracking, chipping, and peeling,
which is the three biggest issues with paint. You know,
the cracking of it, the potential strength you know, our
products have up to depending on the the base coat
and style. You know, it takes up the seven hundred
and twenty psim to crack it, right, which gets into
the chipping and the peeling as well as soon as
(28:09):
it breaks. As soon as any coating cracks or has
an opening for Mother Nature's moisture and sun and salt
and all of those things to get in there, it
cracks and then it's it's gains a short time before
it's game over.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Right. Well, I've said it since the day I started
doing this thirty nine years ago, as water always wins.
And you know so if you've got a ceiling of
anything on there and it's compromised, water will defeat you.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
You are not wrong. Mother's mother nature is undefeated, and yeah,
it will be that we can hold her off for
twenty five years.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
Yeah. Now with Rhino Shield, if somebody's interested, this isn't
something going in by the store. This is an applied product.
Rhinos Shield has the product and they do the application correct.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
Correct. Yeah. So at Rhino Shield, we as manufacturer, we
stand behind our twenty five year warranty in large part
because we only distribute our products through authorized, certified Rhino
Shield dealers. You know, anybody can paint a home and
there's nothing wrong with that. Not everybody's a good fit
for Rhino Shield. If you're a do it yourself for
you're not our customer, right, and then there's nothing wrong
(29:17):
with that. Everybody's his choices. But we choose to distribute
our products through authorized exclusive dealers so that we can
control the quality of the installation. And that's how we
take it to market authorized.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
Dealers, so you spray it on because of the viscosity,
I guess, yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
Yeah. Our product, the installation of it is no, not
really different than paint in that we are really methodical
in our prep that's you know, seventy percent of every job.
As you know, dear, you've been doing this longer than me.
It is about preparation, right, But the spraying of the product,
we use wider tips and a little bit you know,
stronger equipment in our sprayers typically, but the application of
(29:57):
it is sprayed, we do have a unique kind of
a pattern that we make sure we spray it in
because again, our product is thicker, and we've got to
make sure, you know, our guys go around with mill
gages and make sure we're spraying it on at the
right thickness. Otherwise, you know, you don't spray it on thicker,
you get you don't spray it home thick enough, you
get two failures, right.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
Right, right? Well, the neat thing about this first of
the product, but also you're controlling all aspects of it,
and you're warranting it. So you're creating the product, you're
selling the product, you're applying the product and you're warranting
the product, so it's like one stop accountability. Do you
(30:36):
have any warranty issues? I mean, I mean does it
ever fail?
Speaker 4 (30:42):
Oh? Sure that you know if I if anybody that
tells you their product has never failed, I would really
be concerned about that. The authenticity of that. You know,
home improvement doesn't have the best reputation when it comes
to trans transparency and honesty about what the product will
and won't do well, how much does it? And that's
why on rhinoshield dot com you can go in there
(31:02):
and you can download a buyer's guy that answers the
five most common question is how much it cost? Does
this stuff really work? Can I get it in any color?
Tell me about the warranty and installation process and so, yes,
we've had issues, Gary, and we will in the future
with warranties. Warranty doesn't mean you'll never have a problem.
If your car breaks down under warranty, how do you feel? Typically,
I feel relieved that I have that warranty, right, And
(31:24):
so when we have a moment where we have services
and we do it's typically for one of a handful
of reasons. A lot of times it could be that
the installation wasn't done properly. We don't get a ton
of warranty services for that. But our installers are humans.
They have better days than others, right, And sometimes there's
environmental conditions when they're spraying. Maybe they spray when it
(31:45):
was a little too windy and the application doesn't go
on thick enough, or maybe the substrate as an underlying
issue with moisture or some other issues that really aren't
codings related. But if you don't find those issues and
you put a coding over top of a siding that's
got a moisture issue, you know this as well as
I do. Nothing's going to stick to that, right right,
Like you said, water is undefeated. So those are typically
(32:08):
the issues that we have with installations. So we did
have an issue where it was the sighting issue. There
was a sighting that was manufactured with really wide ranging
phs and normally this type of cement board is pretty consistent.
That's not a rhino shield issue. But we actually worked
with the subdivision and a structural engineer to figure it out.
(32:31):
We actually ended up developing a new primer for that siding.
So you know, our rhino shield dealers are pretty good
at what they do. They want to make sure our
customers are heavy. But yeah, it's a short answer to
your question is yeah, yeah, Rhino Shield has had moments before,
but every product has and so that's why we stand
behind them.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
Well, so at twenty five years, do you fall off
the cliff or does it keep going?
Speaker 4 (32:53):
Well, you know, Gary, we're twenty six years old now.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
So okay, I gotcha, got yeah, But.
Speaker 4 (32:59):
You can see you can go on Rhinoshield and we've
got some customer videos that we shot in twenty twenty
one and they were from twelve to eighteen year installations,
and so now those are fifteen to twenty one year installations.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
Nice.
Speaker 4 (33:11):
You know, we the way that people ask me all
the time, will if you've home been around for twenty
five years, how can you say as a twenty five
year warranty. We can say that because we use independent
third party testing companies to validate this because in a lab,
you know, in a lab situation, no, my coding won't fail.
But we don't install our codings in lab situations. Right,
that's like, you know, perfect scenarios in the academic world,
(33:33):
but this is the real world, and so we use
third party test to validate and give us the peace
of mind that we can stand behind it. And all
of that testing data also front page of rhinoshield dot com.
We try to be completely transparent because if I you know,
like said, home improvement doesn't have the best reputation, so
taking someone's word for something when you're doing a large
project on your home is pretty risky. That's why we've
(33:55):
put all the data and all the science right on
our website so you can see it.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
Well. One of the things everybody wants to know now
is costs. But it looks like you're going to if
you don't use a rhino shield, you may paint your
house four or five times during that twenty four years,
and labor's expensive when you're having it painted or codd
or changing the colors and the curb appeal and everything.
(34:18):
How does rhino shields stack up? I know you're getting
more you're getting more quality with the rhino shield versus paint,
but where's that price stack up to paint?
Speaker 4 (34:30):
Sure that's the busiest page on our website and the
most commonly asked question at home shows or how much
does it cost? And you know a lot of folks
in home improvement, trying to avoid that question, and we
just take a different tag. Rhino Shield is initially more
expensive than just painting your house two to two and
a half times typically okay, but over time rhino shield
(34:51):
will get even if you just do three or four
paint jobs in that twenty five year period. You know,
rhino shield is going to save you thousands, if not
tens of thousands of dollars, and our others benefits can share. Yeah,
and not only that, it's saving money, I mean it's
it's it's a hassle to paint your house. No, No,
it's not fun. You're cutting back bushes, you're taping up windows. Uh,
(35:12):
and it's inconvenient. And so that's why we want to
do it once every twenty five years, not four or
five times. And customer after customer will tell us that
they watch their neighbors painting their house, you know, two
or three or four times, and their house still looks
good because they have Rhinoshield on it.
Speaker 1 (35:28):
Excellent our website, by the way, folks, you can get
all kinds of great information and see if it's right
for you. It's rhinoshield dot com. And well that's enlightening
and I'm sure your business has grown over those two
decades just by the quality of the product.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
Absolutely a gay. We've been very fortunate. We have we
have loyal customers that have you know, used this several times,
moving from home to home, and our dealerships have you know,
grown from twenty five years ago. Now we have dealer
that still have the same paint crews seventeen eighteen years
later that are working with them. You know, the Rhino
Shield family is pretty close knit and uh, but we
(36:08):
we add new dealers every year. We just brought on
the Bay Area and we brought on Miami and we
still have a few markets open. But we've been very
fortunate because our customers you know, you know this in
home improvement, right if you don't do a good job,
everybody knows quickly.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
Yep, yep. And boy, I'll tell you what I know.
We got a couple of stations out in the Bay
Area and they're always fighting that you know, salt water
mist and everything that's tough on any type of pain
or coating. And that's a great Yeah, that's a great
place for Rhinos Shield, no question.

Yeah.

Speaker 9 (40:09):
Hey, Gary's good to talk to you, brother, Thank you.
I got a quick question, got a quick question for you,
and I want to hang up and listen to you
on the radio and see.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
What is what your suggestion is.
Speaker 9 (40:19):
I have a stone tile floor in my kitchen and
dining area and it's growded, of course, and what I
want to know is what can I use on that
ground to bring the color of it back or bring
it back to what it used to be white over
the years, mopping it and clean it and everything.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
It's dark and dump it's dirty.
Speaker 9 (40:39):
I've tried bleach. I've tried and bleach.
Speaker 4 (40:42):
This makes it worse.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
I even thought.
Speaker 9 (40:44):
About putting battery acid on it and see if it
eted way. But without ripping, without ripping the ground out
and regrouting it, what can I do? And I'll hang
up and listen to you.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
Well, let me ask you a couple of questions. Lee,
We just kind of have a little discussion on because
I got a couple of ideas. Do you have you
tried a grout cleaner in a really stiff brush. That
would be the first thing I would you know, certainly
do There's many good groud cleaners. Granted Gold has. A
(41:16):
good grout cleaner comes with a very stiff, hard coarse brush.
It's not a wire brush, but it is kind of
a like a giant toothbrush with very stiff fibers in it.
So cleaning that with a regular ground cleaner that would
be my first suggestion. I don't do the battery acid.
(41:38):
That's going to dissolve a lot of that grout, and
I don't know exactly what that's going to do to
your stone tiel either. So let's stay away from that.
A good old fashioned stiff brush with a good groud
cleaner is something I would recommend now if that didn't work.
One of the things. You know, grout's got about a
(41:58):
three percent absorbed rate of moisture, and when you're mopping
a floor and you get that dirty water and that ceiling.
I don't know if you regularly sealed it or not,
but over time the seiler breaks down, we lose interest,
we don't reseal, and then we got a problem. Right.
(42:18):
I mean, it's down into the grout, but it's only
down maybe a thirty second of an inch. So one
of the things I've recommended to people for years. If
you're familiar with a dremal tool, it's got a little
stone at the end. It's almost cone shaped, and there's
all kinds of attachments. There's one hundred and fifty different attachments.
(42:38):
But if you get a dremal stone and you just
go up and down that grout line, you're going to
grind away a thirty second of an inch of that grout.
And if you do that, it'll be bright white and
you can come back and then apply a sealer. And
that's a good thing to do. Too if the grout
cleaner didn't work, and then the third option is and
(43:00):
a lot of people don't realize this. There's a franchise
across the country. One's called grout medic Ones, called the
grout Doctor. What they do is they come and they
paint your grout, but you don't necessarily have to call them.
If you use a grout cleaner, you scrub, scrub, scrub,
you open up the pores of that groud. You get
some of the dirt, but it still looks bad. One
(43:23):
of the things a lot of people do is they
paint their grout. You can get grout paint in the
hardware store. It comes in a little bottle with a
little sponge on the top. It looks like liquid shoe polish.
It comes in different colors and you just pull it
right down the grout line, wipe the access off the
stone and you've brightened your grout. You can do it
(43:44):
in white. You can use the Drumbell tool. You can
scratch off the surface and reseal it, or you can
just scrub and clean it. So there is a lot
of different options you can do, and certainly they all
will kind of bring that natural color back or a
painted color. Apparently, you know that would appear to be
(44:04):
the same. So there you go. I hope that helps
you out. Hey, another one of my favorite products. It's
tear Mender. Make do and mend it. You can stop
